Abstract
BACKGROUND Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare clinical malignant syndrome, and its rarity causes a lack of pathology research. This study aims to quantitatively analyze HE-stained pathological images (PIs), and develop a new predictive model integrating digital pathological parameters with clinical information. METHODS Ninety-two PMP patients with complete clinic-pathological information, were included. QuPath was used for PIs quantitative feature analysis at tissue-, cell-, and nucleus-level. The correlations between overall survival (OS) and general clinicopathological characteristics, and PIs features were analyzed. A nomogram was established based on independent prognostic factors and evaluated. RESULTS Among the 92 PMP patients, there were 34 (37.0%) females and 58 (63.0%) males, with a median age of 57 (range: 31-76). A total of 449 HE stained images were obtained for QuPath analysis, which extracted 40 pathological parameters at three levels. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed eight clinicopathological characteristics and 20 PIs features significantly associated with OS (p < 0.05). Partial least squares regression was used to screen the multicollinearity features and synthesize four new features. Multivariate survival analysis identified the following five independent prognostic factors: preoperative CA199, completeness of cytoreduction, histopathological type, component one at tissue-level, and tumor nuclei circularity variance. A nomogram was established with internal validation C-index 0.795 and calibration plots indicating improved prediction performance. CONCLUSIONS The quantitative analysis of HE-stained PIs could extract the new prognostic information on PMP. A nomogram established by five independent prognosticators is the first model integrating digital pathological information with clinical data for improved clinical outcome prediction.

Abstract
Background Congenital/infantile fibrosarcoma is a rare soft tissue tumor presented in early age of life. It should be considered in the differential diagnosis of the large soft tissue masses especially in the extremities at the age of infancy. These tumors frequently are misdiagnosed at birth as hemangioma. Histologically, they can resemble their adult counterparts and they are characterized by the chromosomal translocation t(12;15) (p13;q25) resulting in the ETV6-NTRK3 gene fusion. Objective A retrospective review of the MRI features of histopathology-proven congenital/infantile fibrosarcoma provides our own institutional experience and supports the limited radiology literature written about this disease. Material and method The list of our patients is obtained after reviewing our radiology and pathology database in the period between June 1st, 2007 and May 31st, 2017 (10 years) at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center, Riyadh. Phrases used to search in our MRI examinations database are: congenital infantile fibrosarcoma, infantile fibrosarcoma, juvenile fibrosarcoma, soft tissue sarcoma, malignant soft tissue mass, sarcomatous soft tissue mass, fibrosarcoma, spindle cell sarcoma, myomatous sarcoma. Result In our database and picture archiving and communication system (PACS) during the period of the study, the word (fibrosarcoma) was mentioned in the radiology report of 182 patients. Only four cases were histopathologically proven to be a congenital/infantile fibrosarcoma and had completed their own MR exams - three of them were primary/new cases, males with an age range between 0 days and 5 months (median age: 5 months). The fourth case was a female with a history of 1st presentation at the age of one month and proved by histopathology examination but there was no available imaging at that time; however, tumor recurrence in the same patient was at the age of 4 years with available MR imaging and pathology sample. Conclusion Congenital infantile fibrosarcoma is a rare entity that has no specific MRI findings. However, it should be always considered as part of the differential diagnosis of congenital soft tissue masses with aggressive behavior.

Abstract
Objective The relationship between serum selenium levels and papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), especially the pathological features, still remains controversial. We conducted this study to investigate the relationship between serum selenium levels and PTC in a Chinese population. Methods Cross-sectional data of 284 patients with PTC were collected from the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University. The general clinical characteristics, serum selenium levels, and tumor pathological features were described in PTC. The association between serum selenium levels and pathological features in PTC was analyzed using SPSS 26.0 statistical software. Results Our results showed that the median serum selenium level was 79.15 μg/L (IQR: 71.00 - 86.98 μg/L) in PTC patients. Serum selenium levels were lower in females than males (p = 0.035). Serum selenium levels were negatively correlated with the number of lymph node metastases (p = 0.048). High serum selenium (OR = 0.397, 95%CI: 0.217 - 0.725) and diastolic blood pressure (OR = 1.028, 95%CI: 1.005 - 1.051) were related factors for the incidence of bilateral tumors. High serum selenium (OR = 0.320, 95%CI: 0.166 - 0.617) and diastolic blood pressure (OR = 1.066, 95%CI: 1.031 - 1.103) were related factors for tumor multifocal incidence. Conclusions The serum selenium levels of PTC patients in females were lower than males. High serum selenium levels might be a protective factor in PTC patients. Further research is necessary to better understand the influence of selenium on PTC progression.

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the correlation between preoperative platelet parameters and the clinicopathological features of differentiated thyroid cancer. Methods:We retrospectively analyzed the medical records of patients with thyroid tumors admitted to Zhongda Hospital affiliated to Southeast University and healthy adults with normal physical examination results in our hospital from January 2019 to December 2020, and collected their general information and preoperative blood routine data. Patients with undifferentiated thyroid cancer, diabetes, coronary heart disease, hematological diseases, kidney diseases, autoimmune diseases, genetic diseases, infectious diseases, other systemic tumors, hepatitis or cirrhosis, or those taking anticoagulants were excluded. The exclusion criteria for healthy adults were the absence of the above diseases and normal physical examination results. Differences in platelet parameters among the three groups were compared, and the correlation between clinicopathological characteristics of thyroid cancer, accompanying cervical lymph node metastasis, and platelet parameters of patients was analyzed. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze the risk factors of thyroid cancer with cervical lymph node metastasis. Results:A total of 117 cases of differentiated thyroid cancer were collected, including 33 males and 84 females, with an average age of (41.64±12.25) years; 46 patients had benign thyroid tumors, including 15 males and 31 females, with an average age of (41.35±12.52) years; 50 healthy adults with normal physical examination results in our hospital during the same period were also included, including 18 males and 32 females, with an average age of(42.02±9.62) years, without underlying diseases. The platelet count of the differentiated thyroid cancer group was higher than that of the benign thyroid tumor group(t=-2.219, P=0.028) and the normal control group(t=2.069, P=0.04), while the platelet distribution width of the differentiated thyroid cancer group was lower than that of the benign thyroid tumor group(t=2.238, P=0.027) and the normal control group(t=-2.618, P=0.002). These differences were statistically significant. Preoperative age ≤45 years(χ²=4.225, P=0.04), tumor diameter>1 cm(χ²=4.415, P=0.036), PLT(t=-4.018, P<0.01) increase, and PDW(t=4.568, P<0.01) decrease were significantly correlated with cervical lymph node metastasis of thyroid cancer and had statistical significance. Univariate analysis showed that age ≤45 years(OR=0.447, 95%CI 0.206-0.970, P=0.042), tumor diameter>1 cm(OR=2.3, 95%CI 1.050-5.039, P=0.037), PLT(OR=1.012, 95%CI 1.005-1.019, P=0.001), and PDW(OR=0.693, 95%CI 0.518-0.827, P<0.01) were risk factors for cervical lymph node metastasis of thyroid cancer. The results of multifactorial logistic regression analysis showed that PLT(OR=1.008, 95%CI 1.001-1.016, P=0.026) and PDW(OR=0.692, 95%CI 0.564-0.848, P<0.01) were independent risk factors for thyroid cancer with cervical lymph node metastasis. Conclusion:PLT and PDW may be useful predictive factors for the differentiation of thyroid cancer malignancy and central lymph node metastasis.

Abstract
Combined small cell lung cancer (CSCLC) is a specific subtype of lung cancer characterized by a pathological mixture of small cell lung cancer and any subtype of non-small cell lung cancer components. Currently, our understanding of the clinicopathological features, origin, molecular characterization, treatment, and prognosis of CSCLC remains limited. CSCLCs represent examples of intratumor heterogeneity and pose challenges for accurate diagnosis. Are there any distinct clinicopathologic and molecular differences between pure SCLC and CSCLC? Furthermore, the prognostic outcomes and optimal treatments for CSCLC are urgently needed. This article aims to summarize the current biological features and clinical management of CSCLC, providing a reference for further understanding of this heterogeneous form of small cell lung cancer.

Abstract
An in-house tomato inbred line, YNAU335, was planted in a greenhouse in spring from 2014 to 2017, and showed immunity to tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV). YNAU335 was infected with TSWV in the spring from 2018 to 2020, and disease was observed on the leaves, sepals, and fruits. In 2021 and 2022, YNAU335 was planted in spring in the same greenhouse, which was suspected of being infected with TSWV, and visible disease symptoms were observed on the fruits. Transmission electron microscopy, deep sequencing of small RNAs, and molecular mutation diagnosis were used to analyze the pathological features and genetic polymorphism of TSWV infecting tomato fruit. Typical TSWV virions were observed in the infected fruits, but not leaves from YNAU335 grown between 2021 and 2022, and cross-infection was very rarely observed. The number of mitochondria and chloroplasts increased, but the damage to the mitochondria was greater than that seen in the chloroplasts. Small RNA deep sequencing revealed the presence of multiple viral species in TSWV-infected and non-infected tomato samples grown between 2014-2022. Many virus species, including TSWV, which accounted for the largest proportion, were detected in the TSWV-infected tomato leaves and fruit. However, a variety of viruses other than TSWV were also detected in the non-infected tissues. The amino acids of TSWV nucleocapsid proteins (NPs) and movement proteins (MPs) from diseased fruits of YNAU335 picked in 2021-2022 were found to be very diverse. Compared with previously identified NPs and MPs from TSWV isolates, those found in this study could be divided into three types: non-resistance-breaking, resistance-breaking, and other isolates. The number of positive clones and a comparison with previously identified amino acid mutations suggested that mutation F at AA118 of the MP (GenBank OL310707) is likely the key to breaking the resistance to TSWV, and this mutation developed only in the infected fruit of YNAU335 grown in 2021 and 2022.

Abstract
Secondary neoplasms of the testes from solid tumors are rare and usually present as a painless mass. Metastatic cecum signet-ring cell cancer of the testis is extremely rare. The orchioncus usually shows hypervascularity on color Doppler ultrasound. The present study reports an unusual case of testicular secondary signet-ring cell carcinoma mimicking missed testicular torsion in a 55-year-old male patient with right scrotal swelling and intermittent pain for 10 days. As color Doppler ultrasound showed an avascular distribution of the enlarged right testis, missed testicular torsion was initially diagnosed. Right-sided orchiectomy was performed, and pathology of the resected testis revealed an intestinal-type adenocarcinoma with mucinous and signet-ring cell features. This pathological feature led to further endoscopic colorectal biopsy of the digestive tract, which revealed poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of the cecum with signet ring cell features similar to those of testicular specimens. In conclusion, differential diagnosis should be considered for rare testicular neoplasms, as was seen in this rare occurrence of testicular torsion in a patient who initially presented with metastatic colorectal cancer. A correct preoperative diagnosis can change the management and outcome. This report shares our reasons for misdiagnosis and opinions on diagnosing and treating this kind of case.

Abstract
Purpose Exploring the expression and prognosis of mismatch repair proteins and PD-L1 in colorectal cancer. Patients and Methods A total of 272 patients with surgically resected CRC were enrolled in the study from January 2018 to May 2022 at Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital (The Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School). Surgically resected samples were collected from patients along with general, clinicopathological, and imaging data for each patient. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to detect expression of MSH2, MSH6, MLH1, and PMS2 proteins in tumor tissue. X-squared (X2) testing was performed to investigate the correlation between expression of MMR proteins and PD-L1 in CRC tumor tissues and clinicopathological characteristics. Correlation analysis was also used to compare the deletion of four MMR proteins in CRC tumor tissues. A survival curve and Log rank test were used to investigate the relationship between the expression of MMR proteins and PD-L1 with regard to CRC patient prognosis and survival. Results MMR protein expression deletion was correlated with tumor location, the degree of tissue differentiation, and TNM stage (P<0.05). PD-L1 expression was correlated with TNM stage (P<0.05). Correlation analysis of deletion of MMR protein isoform expression found that PMS2 deletion was significantly correlated with MLH1 deletion (P<0.05). Similarly, MSH2 deletion was significantly correlated with MSH6 deletion (P<0.05). PMS2 deletion was also found to be correlated with PD-L1 expression (P<0.05). Progression-free survival was found to be significantly longer in mismatch repair-proficient (pMMR) patients compared with mismatch repair-deficient (dMMR) patients. Conclusion Deletion of MMR proteins and expression of PD-L1 are closely related to clinicopathological characteristics and overall prognosis of CRC patients. This suggests the relevance of MMR and PD-L1 as potential biomarkers for treatment of CRC patients.

Abstract
Background Axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) could be omitted for T1-2 breast cancer patients with 1-2 positive sentinel lymph node (SLN) after breast-conserving surgery when radiation is planned. However, whether ALND could be replaced by radiation in patients with 1-3 positive SLNs when no more non-SLN metastasis were observed after mastectomy are still controversial. The aim of our study was to develop and validate a nomogram for predicting the possibility of non-SLN metastasis in T1-2 and hormone receptor (HR) positive breast cancer patients with 1-3 positive SLNs after mastectomy. Methods We retrospectively reviewed and analyzed the data including the basic information, preoperative sonographic characteristics, and pathological features in breast cancer patients with 1-3 positive SLNs in our medical center between Jan 2016 and Dec 2021. The Chi-square, Fisher's exact test, and t test were used for comparison of categorical and qualitative variables among patients with or without non-SLN metastasis. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to determine the risk factors for non-SLN metastasis. These predictors were used to build the nomogram. The C-index and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was calculated to assess the accuracy of the model. Results A total of 49 in 107 (45.8%) patients were identified with non-SLN metastasis. In multivariate analysis, four variables including younger age, lower estrogen receptor (ER) expression, higher histological score, and cortex thickening of the lymph nodes were determined to be significantly associated with non-SLN metastasis. An individualized nomogram was consequently established with a favorable C-index of 0.822 and verified via two internal validation cohorts. Conclusions The current study developed a nomogram predicting non-SLN metastasis for T1-2 and HR+ breast cancer with 1-3 positive SLNs after mastectomy and found that patients in the high-risk group exhibited worse relapse-free survival. The novel nomogram may further help surgeons to determine whether ALND could be omitted when 1-3 positive SLNs were observed in T1-2 and HR+ breast cancer patients.

Abstract
Para-testicular rhabdomyosarcoma (PTRMS) is a rare tumor, and it accounts for 7% of all rhabdomyosarcoma tumors. Among all the rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) types, the spindle cell RMS is extremely rare. The present study describes a case of a para-testicular spindle cell RMS that was treated with a radical inguinal orchiectomy (RIO) and right scrotal resection. A 17-year-old male patient presented with a half-year history of a rapidly growing, painless, right scrotal mass. His CT of the pelvic cavity showed a mixed-density mass in the right scrotum, and the maximum cross-sectional area was approximately 76.5 mm × 64.5 mm. An X-ray of the chest demonstrated no evidence of metastasis, and a local surgical excision was performed subsequently. The histopathological and immunohistochemical examination confirmed the final diagnosis of spindle cell RMS. As a newly diagnosed case, strict and regular follow-up is needed. This article focuses on the importance of prompt recognition, diagnosis, pathological features, and appropriate management of para-testicular spindle cell RMS.

Abstract
To explore the significance of the analysis of pathological characteristics of breast cancer and the detection of myeloid-derived suppressor cell (MDSC) levels in peripheral blood for the evaluation of biological characteristics. 138 breast cancer patients were enrolled as the research group, while 138 patients with benign breast diseases were included as the control group. All patients underwent pathological analysis and detection of peripheral blood MDSCs levels, progesterone receptor (PR), estrogen receptor (ER), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2), and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (Ki-67). A factorial study of stage I, II, and III breast cancer patients showed significant differences in clinicopathological characteristics, including age, tumor size, lymph node metastases, histological grading, Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI) score, pathological type, and family history (P < 0.05). The research group had higher levels of peripheral blood MDSCs and different cell surface markers compared to the control group (P<0.05). Positive expression of biological molecules in breast cancer, such as PR, ER, HER-2, and Ki-67, had significant differences based on lymph node metastasis and tumor size (P < 0.05). The quality of survival scores was higher in stages I and II compared to stage III (P < 0.05). Age, recurrence, metastasis, and other pathological characteristics of breast cancer have a direct impact on clinical outcomes and survival rates. Peripheral blood levels of MDSCs and other cell surface markers are significantly elevated, serving as a crucial benchmark for the subsequent evaluation of breast cancer progression.

Abstract
Background Ductal carcinoma in situ with microinvasion (DCIS-MI) is defined as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) with a microscopic invasive focus ≤1 mm in the longest diameter. The current literature is controversial concerning the clinical prognostic features and management of DCIS-MI. This narrative review described recently reported literature regarding the characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of it. Methods Searching PubMed for relevant articles covering the period of 1982 to 2021 using the following terms by MeSH and free-word: breast cancer, microinvasion, DCIS, DCIS-MI, and invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC). Results DCIS-MI tends to express more aggressive pathological features such as necrosis, HER2+, ER- or PR-, and high nuclear grade. The overall prognosis of DCIS-MI is typically good, however, some indicators such as young age, HR-, HER2+ and multimicroinvasive lesions, were associated with worse prognoses. And there are also conflicting results on the differences between the prognoses of DCIS-MI and DCIS or T1a-IDC. Postoperative chemotherapy and anti-HER2 therapy still have uncertain benefits and are more likely to be used to treat high-risk patients who are HR- orHER2+ to improve the prognosis. Conclusion DCIS-MI has more aggressive pathological features, which may suggest its biological behavior is worse than that of DCIS and similar to early IDC. Although the overall prognosis of DCIS-MI is good, when making decisions about adjuvant therapy clinicians need to give priority to the hormone receptor status, HER2 expression and axillary lymph node status of patients, because these may affect the prognosis and treatment response.

Abstract
(1) Background: Despite increasing recognition of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and kidney immune-related adverse events (IRAEs), no large-sample studies have assessed the pathological characteristics and outcomes of biopsy-proven kidney IRAEs. (2) Methods: We comprehensively searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane for case reports, case series, and cohort studies for patients with biopsy-proven kidney IRAEs. All data were used to describe pathological characteristics and outcomes, and individual-level data from case reports and case series were pooled to analyze risk factors associated with different pathologies and prognoses. (3) Results: In total, 384 patients from 127 studies were enrolled. Most patients were treated with PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors (76%), and 95% presented with acute kidney disease (AKD). Acute tubulointerstitial nephritis/acute interstitial nephritis (ATIN/AIN) was the most common pathologic type (72%). Most patients (89%) received steroid therapy, and 14% (42/292) required RRT. Among AKD patients, 17% (48/287) had no kidney recovery. Analyses of pooled individual-level data from 221 patients revealed that male sex, older age, and proton pump inhibitor (PPI) exposure were associated with ICI-associated ATIN/AIN. Patients with glomerular injury had an increased risk of tumor progression (OR 2.975; 95% CI, 1.176, 7.527; p = 0.021), and ATIN/AIN posed a decreased risk of death (OR 0.164; 95% CI, 0.057, 0.473; p = 0.001). (4) Conclusions: We provide the first systematic review of biopsy-proven ICI-kidney IRAEs of interest to clinicians. Oncologists and nephrologists should consider obtaining a kidney biopsy when clinically indicated.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the clinicopathological features of solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) of the lung. METHODS We collected the clinical data of 52 patients with SFTs of the lung confirmed by pathology, and summarized the clinical, radiological, and morphological features, the immunophenotypes, and the prognosis of SFTs. RESULTS Fifty-two cases of SFTs of the lung were enrolled in this study, including 51 cases of borderline and 1 case of malignancy, 22 males and 30 females. The average onset age was 52.7 years. The lower lobe of the left lung was the preferred site of SFTs, accounting for 30.77% (16/52). Chest CT showed regular and well-demarcated soft tissue density mass, and the tumor size of most cases (46/52, 88.46%) was 1-10 cm. Morphological features: The distribution of tumor cells showed sparse and dense areas. Tumor cells were spindle-shaped, in whorls or hemangiopericytoma-like conformation. Atypia, mitotic figures, and necrosis were found. Immunohistochemistry showed positive expression of CD34, STAT6, Vimentin, BCL2, and CD99. Ki-67 was ≤ 5% in borderline SFTs and >20% in a malignant SFT. CONCLUSIONS Solitary fibrous tumors of the lung occur more frequently in middle-aged and elderly people, and there is no significant difference in gender. The lower lobe of the left lung is the preferred site of SFTs. The size of most SFTs is 1-10 cm. Chest CT shows morphologically regular and well-demarcated soft tissue density mass. Pathologically, SFTs of the lung are mostly borderline and occasionally malignant. Immunohistochemistry shows the positive expression of CD34, STAT6, Vimentin, BCL2, and CD99.

Abstract
To investigate the levels of serum transforming growth factor-β 1 (TGF-β1), Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and Interleukin-1 β (IL-1 β) in breast cancer (BC), and analyzing their relationship with pathological features and prognosis. Retrospective analysis of 86 subjects with BC (BC subgroup) and another 50 healthy subjects (control subgroup) during the same period were included. The clinical data were collected. In this research, in BC subgroup, The levels of serum TGF- β 1, MMP-9 and IL-1 β were significantly higher than those in control subgroup. The levels of TGF- β 1 and MMP-9 in serum of BC subjects was correlated with clinical stage, histological grade, lymph node metastasis and molecular classification, but not with age, tumor size and menopausal status. The level of serum IL-1 β was related to tumor size, clinical stage, histological grade and lymph node metastasis. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the high level of serum TGF- β1 and MMP-9 was independent risk factors for BC. High level of serum IL-1 β was not an independent risk factor for BC. The 3-year disease-free survival rate in high TGF- β1 subgroup and high MMP-9 subgroup was significantly lower than that in low TGF- β 1 subgroup and low MMP- 9 subgroup. To conclude, serum TGF- β 1, MMP-9 and IL-1β are highly expressed in BC, and the subjects with elevated serum levels of TGF- β 1 and MMP-9 suggests poor prognosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Limited literature exists on the characteristics of early gastric signet ring cell carcinoma (GSRCC) within 20 mm. This study aimed to explore this type of cancer from several aspects, to provide guidance for early detection and intervention of GSRCC. METHODS We retrospectively collected data from 24 patients diagnosed with early GSRCC ≤20 mm in Beijing Friendship Hospital from 2016 to 2021. According to tumor size, those lesions were divided into three groups: diminutive group (1-5 mm, n = 4), small group (6-10 mm, n = 12) and intermediate group (11-20 mm, n = 8). The clinicopathologic and endoscopic characteristics of GSRCC were compared among the three groups. RESULTS Treatment strategies for lesions differed according to the size (p<.05). There were no significant differences among the three groups with regard to age, sex, Helicobacter pylori infection, tumor location and macroscopic type. Lesions were often flat type and more likely to present with discoloration, uneven color, ulceration and submucosal invasion with the increase of diameter. Almost all cases showed abnormal intervening part (IP) under magnifying endoscopy. CONCLUSIONS The location of early signet ring cell carcinoma is not specific, and the diminutive lesions are often flat. Abnormal IP may be the early endoscopic feature of early GSRCC.

Abstract
Objectives: Pancreatic undifferentiated carcinoma accounts for 2%-7% of pancreatic carcinomas. We aimed to investigate the pathological and genetic characteristics of pancreatic undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells and the key points of treatment. Methods: The clinical data and follow-up results of four patients diagnosed with pancreatic undifferentiated carcinoma with osteoclast-like giant cells between May 2015 and May 2020 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University were retrospectively analyzed. Results: Chief complaints included "pain and discomfort in the upper abdomen" (2/4), "nausea and vomiting" (1/4) or no symptoms (1/4). Preoperative mildly elevated tumor markers included carcinoembryonic antigen (1/4) and CA19-9 (1/4). The tumors were located in the tail of the pancreas in three patients and the head and neck in one patient. Tumor metastasis was found in pancreatic adipose tissue in two patients and lymph node metastasis in one patient, with microscopic heterogeneous mononuclear cells and scattered osteoclast-like giant cells of various sizes. One patient (1/4) had a mucinous cystic tumor of the pancreas, and two patients (2/4) had adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic duct. Only one patient received postoperative gemcitabine combined with albumin-bound paclitaxel chemotherapy. Conclusion: Currently, treatment guidelines are lacking for PUC-OGC, and prognosis varies markedly. More cases must be reported to clarify its origination. The long-term follow-up of diagnosed patients and genetic mutation testing can also contribute to improving treatment and prognosis of this disease.

Abstract
Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is a prevalent form of soft tissue sarcoma that primarily affects children. Pediatric RMS is characterized by two distinct histological variants: embryonal (ERMS) and alveolar (ARMS). ERMS is a malignant tumor with primitive characteristics resembling the phenotypic and biological features of embryonic skeletal muscles. With the widespread and growing application of advanced molecular biological technologies, such as next-generation sequencing (NGS), it has been possible to determine the oncogenic activation alterations of many tumors. Specifically for soft tissue sarcomas, the determination of tyrosine kinase gene and protein related changes can be used as diagnostic aids and may be used as predictive markers for targeted tyrosine kinase inhibition therapy. Our study reports a rare and exceptional case of an 11-year-old patient diagnosed with ERMS, who tested positive for MEF2D-NTRK1 fusion. The case report presents a comprehensive overview of the clinical, radiographic, histopathological, immunohistochemical, and genetic characteristics of a palpebral ERMS. Furthermore, this study sheds light on an uncommon occurrence of NTRK1 fusion-positive ERMS, which may provide theoretical basis for therapy and prognosis.

Abstract
Ischemic acute kidney injury (AKI) has always been a hot and difficult research topic in the field of renal diseases. This study aims to illustrate the safe warm ischemia time of kidney and the molecular network characteristics and pathological features of mild to severe ischemia reperfusion kidney injury. We established varying degrees of renal injury due to different ischemia time (0 min, 16 min, 18 min, 20 min, 22 min, 24 min, 26 min, 28 min, and 30 min) on unilateral (left kidney) ischemia-reperfusion injury and contralateral (right kidney) resection (uIRIx) mouse model. Mice were sacrificed 24 h after uIRIx, blood samples were harvested to detect serum creatinine (Scr), and kidney tissue samples were harvested to perform Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) staining and RNA-Seq. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identificated, time-dependent gene expression patterns and functional enrichment analysis were further performed. Finally, qPCR was performed to validated RNA-Seq results. Our results indicated that there was no absolute safe renal warm ischemia time, and every minute of ischemia increases kidney damage. Warm ischemia 26min or above in mice makes severe kidney injury, renal pathology and SCr were both significantly changed. Warm ischemia between 18 and 26 min makes mild kidney injury, with changes in pathology and renal molecular expression, while SCr did not change. No obvious pathological changes but significant differences in molecular expression were found less than 16min warm ischemia. There are two key time intervals in the process of renal ischemia injury, 0 min-16 min (short-term) and 26 min-28 min (long-term). Gene expression of immune-related pathways were most significantly down-regulated in short-term ischemia, while metabolism-related pathways were the mainly enriched pathway in long-term ischemia. Taken together, this study provides novel insights into safe renal artery occlusion time in partial nephrectomy, and is of great value for elucidating molecular network characteristics and pathological features of mild to severe ischemia reperfusion kidney injury, and key genes related to metabolism and immune found in this study also provide potential diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers for AKI.

Abstract
BACKGROUND CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) was closely related to the degree of pathological differentiation of tumors, and it's an important determinant of glioma pathogenicity. However, the molecular and pathological features of CIMP-positive glioma have not been fully elucidated. In addition, CIMP have been reported to be a useful prognostic marker in several human cancers, yet its prognostic value in gliomas is still controversial. Therefore, we aimed to evaluate gene mutations and pathological features of CIMP-positive glioma and explore the prognostic value of CIMP in gliomas. METHODS We comprehensively searched PubMed, Embase, and MEDLINE for studies describing gene mutations, pathological features and overall survival of gliomas stratified by CIMP status. Odds ratios (OR), hazard ratios (HR), and their 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to estimate the correlation between CIMP and the outcome parameters. RESULTS Twelve studies with 2386 gliomas (1051 CIMP-positive and 1335 CIMP-negative) were included. Our results showed that CIMP was more frequent in isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1)-mutated gliomas (OR 229.07; 95% CI 138.72-378.26) and 1p19q loss of heterozygosis (LOH) gliomas (OR 5.65; 95% CI 2.66-12.01). Pathological analysis showed that CIMP was common in low-malignant oligodendroglioma (OR 5.51; 95% CI 3.95-7.70) with molecular features including IDH1 mutations and 1p19q LOH, but rare in glioblastoma (OR 0.14; 95% CI 0.10-0.19). However, CIMP showed no obvious correlation with anaplastic oligoastrocytomas (OR 1.57; 95% CI 1.24-2.00) or oligoastrocytomas (OR 0.79; 95% CI 0.35-1.76). Concerning the prognosis, we found that CIMP-positive gliomas had longer overall survival (HR 0.57; 95% CI 0.97-0.16) than CIMP-negative gliomas. CONCLUSIONS CIMP could be used as a potential independent prognostic indicator for glioma.

Abstract
Background and Objective Asthma is a common chronic disorder of the airway, and its disability and mortality rates continue to increase each year. Due to the lack of an ideal treatment, asthma control in China remains unsatisfactory. Airway remodeling is the pathological basis for the eventual development of the fixed airflow limitation in asthmatic patients. Early diagnosis and the prevention of airway remodeling has the potential to decrease disease severity, to improve control, and to prevent disease expression. Methods This article presents an overview. The literature was combed through via CNKi and PubMed according to the listed keywords. We considered Chinese and English original publications (basic science and clinical), reviews and abstracts of 21th Century. Key Content and Findings We review the pathological features and pathogenesis of, and the interventional treatment options for airway remodeling in asthmatic patients, emphasizing the importance of airway remodeling in asthma and providing novel insights into the prevention and control of asthma. Conclusions Thus, there have been research advances in airway remodeling, especially in the areas of slowing down or reversing airway remodeling. As growing studies showed, treating airway remodeling is a promising strategy in preventing the occurrence and progression of asthma. Breakthroughs in these difficulties airway remodeling still facing will open up new avenues in the research and treatment of asthma.

Abstract
Objective To analyze the clinicopathological features and immunohistochemical expression of meningiomas in the Tibetan population in Tibet,and improve the understanding of meningiomas. Methods The clinical and pathological data of all the meningiomas diagnosed by pathology in Tibet Autonomous Region People's Hospital from April 2013 to March 2021 were analyzed retrospectively.All the cases underwent immunohistochemical staining of trimethylation of lysine 27 on histone H3 (H3K27me3),mucin 4 (MUC4),somatostatin receptor 2 (SSTR2),progesterone receptor,epithelial membrane antigen,glial fibrillary acidic protein,vimentin,S-100,P53,and Ki-67.The histopathological features and the staining results were observed under a light microscope. Results A total of 116 cases of meningiomas were included in this study,with the male-to-female ratio of 1.0∶2.6 and the age of 4-73 years.The main clinical symptom was headache.The imaging examination showed that 114 cases had single lesions and 2 cases had multiple lesions.The tumors were located in the cranium (108 cases) and spinal canal (8 cases).The maximum diameter of the tumors ranged from 0.3 cm to 10.0 cm,with a mean of (5.7±2.2) cm.In terms of microscopic grading and histological types,the 116 cases included 111 cases of WHO grade Ⅰ (including 53 cases of fibrous type,20 cases of meningothelial type,24 cases of transitional type,10 cases of psammomatous type,etc.),4 cases of WHO grade Ⅱ (3 cases of atypical type and 1 case of clear cell type),and 1 case of WHO grade Ⅲ (papillary type).The immunohistochemical staining showed H3K27me3 expression absent in 9 cases (9/116,7.8%),MUC4 positive in 64 cases (64/116,55.2%),SSTR2 positive in 101 cases (101/116,87.1%).Eighty cases had follow-up results,among which 71 cases had no recurrence,while 9 cases recurred. Conclusions Meningioma is the most common tumor in the central nervous system in the pathological file of Tibet.It mainly attacks the middle-aged female patients,occupying the parasagittal sinus,falx,and convex surface of the brain.Fibrous meningioma of WHO grade Ⅰ is common,while the meningiomas of WHO grades Ⅱ and Ⅲ are rare.The expression degree of MUC4 is higher in meningothelial and transitional meningiomas but lower in fibrous meningiomas.There may be no correlation between the absence of H3K27me3 expression and prognosis.

Abstract
Primary carcinoid tumor of the kidney is an extremely rare well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor, which is generally a low-grade malignant cancer with a good prognosis. Carcinoid tumors are rarely found in the urinary system. Here, we report a 34-year-old woman with primary renal well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor who underwent nephron sparing surgery and no evidence of recurrence or distant metastasis was found during routine follow-up. We searched the case of renal carcinoid with the search phrase "carcinoid [title] and kidney [title]" and "carcinoid [title] and renal [title]" using the PubMed and restricted the search to articles published in English since 2013. The clinical manifestations, age, sex, tumor size, location, gross pathology, light microscopy and immunohistochemistry were analyzed. A total of 28 cases of renal carcinoid were retrieved from PubMed. Higher proportion of positive labeling of CgA, Syn, NSE and CD56 are most valuable in the diagnosis of primary renal well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor. At present, radical nephrectomy remains the gold standard in the curative-intent therapy for well-differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma of kidney, in metastatic renal carcinoid, long-term use of octreotide may be an effective adjuvant therapy.

Abstract
High-altitude polycythemia (HAPC) is a clinical syndrome that occurs in native inhabitants or long-term residents living at altitude. The kidney is one of the most affected organs. However, the clinical and kidney histopathological profiles of HAPC-related kidney disease have rarely been reported. Here, we report kidney biopsy-based clinicopathological study on this disease. HAPC was defined as excessive erythrocytosis [females, hemoglobin 190 g/L or more; males, 210 g/L or more] in patients living above an altitude of 2500 m for more than ten years. A total of 416 Tibetan patients underwent kidney biopsy between January 1, 2016, and November 31, 2020. Of these patients 17 met the diagnostic criteria for HAPC-related kidney disease. Clinically, these patients had a median urinary protein level of 2.5 g/24-hour (range 1.81-6.85). Twelve patients had hyperuricemia, nine had hypertension, and three had kidney insufficiency. On histopathology, glomerular hypertrophy, glomerular basement membrane thickening, podocyte foot process effacement, segmental glomerulosclerosis and global glomerulosclerosis were the main features. Extraglomerular arterial/arteriolar lesions were common, presenting as intimal fibrosis, hyalinosis and endothelial cell swelling/subintimal edema. Expansion of the arterial/arteriolar medial wall area characterized by smooth muscle cell proliferation was clearly observed, potentially indicating vascular remodeling. Hypoxia-inducible factor 2α was expressed in the kidney tissues of these patients. Thus, the pathological changes of HAPC-related kidney disease encompassed both glomerular and extraglomerular vascular lesions, suggesting a key role of both chronic hypoxia itself and secondary hemodynamic changes in the pathogenesis of this disease.

Abstract
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic chronic autoinflammatory disease, and the synovial hyperplasia, pannus formation, articular cartilage damage and bone matrix destruction caused by immune system abnormalities are the main features of RA. The use of Disease Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drugs (DMARDs) has achieved great advances in the therapy of RA. Yet there are still patients facing the problem of poor response to drug therapy or drug intolerance. Current therapy methods can only moderate RA progress, but cannot stop or reverse the damage it has caused. Recent studies have reported that there are a variety of long non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) that have been implicated in mediating many aspects of RA. Understanding the mechanism of LncRNAs in RA is therefore critical for the development of new therapy strategies and prevention strategies. In this review, we systematically elucidate the biological roles and mechanisms of action of LncRNAs and their mechanisms of action in RA. Additionally, we also highlight the potential value of LncRNAs in the clinical diagnosis and therapy of RA.

Abstract
Background This study aimed to explore the expression of Nanog and fibroblast growth factor-inducible molecule 14 (Fn14) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and to explore their relationship with pathological characteristics and prognosis. Methods The clinical data of 89 patients with NSCLC admitted to this hospital from March 2015 to January 2019 were analyzed. The expression of Nanog and Fn14 in NSCLC tissues and normal tissues (5 cm around the tumor tissue) were analyzed by immunohistochemical staining. The relationship between Nanog and Fn14 expression and the patients’ pathological parameters was analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) and Kaplan-Meier survival curves were drawn to analyze the influence of Nanog and Fn14 expression on prognosis, and logistic regression analysis was used to examine the related factors affecting the 2-year prognostic mortality of patients. Results The positive rates of Nanog and Fn14 in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). The positive expression rates of Nanog and Fn14 were higher in patients with moderate/high differentiation, TNM stage III-IV, and lymph node metastasis (P<0.05). Among 89 patients with NSCLC, 25 patients died within 2 years of follow-up, with a survival rate of 71.91%. The mortality of patients with positive expression of Nanog and Fn14 was significantly higher than that of patients with negative expression (P<0.05). The median survival times of patients with negative and positive Nanog expression were (20.60±2.71) months and (18.03±2.11) months, respectively. The median survival times of patients with negative and positive Fn14 expression were (19.55±2.60) months and (15.65±2.14) months, respectively. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that patients with both negative expression of Nanog and Fn14 had a longer survival time (P<0.05). Poor differentiation, TNM stage III-IV, lymph node metastasis, positive expression of Nanog, and positive expression of Fn14 were identified as risk factors affecting the prognostic mortality of patients with NSCLC (P<0.05). Conclusions Nanog and Fnl4 are closely related to the occurrence, development, and prognosis of NSCLC. Detection of their expression levels can provide reliable information for the early diagnosis of patients with NSCLC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical and pathological features of IgG4-related and non-IgG4-related idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRF) according to the latest classification criteria for IgG4-related disease in 2019. METHODS Patients with IRF confirmed by histological examination from our hospital between 2000 and 2020 were selected in this study. Medical records of all patients were reviewed by independent researchers. Retroperitoneal specimens were obtained for hematoxylin & eosin staining, elastic-collagenous fiber staining, and immunohistochemical analysis. The clinical and pathological features between IgG4-related and non-IgG4-related IRF were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 105 patients were included with 77 in the IgG4-related group and 28 in non-IgG4-related group. The ratio of male to female patients and the incidence of acute renal failure were significantly higher in the IgG4-related group than in the non-IgG4-related group. Elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein were more common and the recurrence rate was significantly higher in the IgG4-related group than in the non-IgG4-related group. Radiographically, the ureter was more easily involved by retroperitoneal soft tissue in the IgG4-related group. Histologically, there were no significant differences in the incidence of dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltration, storiform fibrosis, and obliterative phlebitis between the two groups except for the IgG4 staining. CONCLUSIONS Idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis can be classified into IgG4-related and non-IgG4-related subtypes. There were no significant pathological differences between the two subtypes of IRF, except for the IgG4 staining. Patients with the IgG4 subtype tended to be more likely to be male, have a higher inflammatory index, and be more likely to have recurrence.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics of established genital and extragenital lichen sclerosus(LS)and compare the differences between them. Method The clinicopathological data of 55 patients with established genital and extragenital LS diagnosed by pathological examination in the Department of Dermatology of Beijing Hospital were retrospectively analyzed. Results The 55 patients included 11 males and 44 females.Among them,38,15,and 2 patients had genital lesions,extragenital lesions,and both genital and extragenital lesions,respectively.Extragenital LS mainly involved the back(14.55%)and extremities(7.27%).Among the patients,28.30% were asymptomatic,and 73.58% and 24.53% felt itchy and painful,respectively.The asymptomatic patients had a higher proportion in extragenital cases(χ2=31.224,P=0.000),and the itchy symptom was more common in genital LS cases than in extragenital LS cases(χ2=39.073,P=0.000).Vulvar pain only appeared in the patients with genital LS.A total of 57 biopsy specimens from the 55 patients were reviewed,of which 40 were from genital lesions and 17 were from extragenital lesions.In addition to papillary dermal homogenization (100%),the common pathological changes include hyperkeratosis(98.25%),atrophy(50.88%),basal cell liquefaction degeneration (52.63%),dilated blood vessels(64.91%),a perivascular lymphocytic infiltrate(100%),histiocytic infiltrate(85.96%),and lichenoid inflammatory infiltrate(54.39%).Higher proportions of acanthosis (χ2=4.402,P=0.036),dilated blood vessels (χ2=9.330,P=0.002),and eosinophilic infiltrate (χ2=4.162,P=0.041) were observed in genital LS cases.A higher proportion of follicular plugging appeared in extragenital LS cases (χ2=5.076,P=0.024). Conclusion The established genital LS and extragenital LS showed some differences in clinical symptoms and pathological changes including acanthosis,dilated blood vessels,eosinophilic infiltrate,and follicular plugging.

Abstract
The prognostication of colorectal cancer (CRC) has traditionally relied on staging as defined by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) TNM staging classifications. However, clinically, there appears to be differences in survival patterns independent of stage, suggesting a complex interaction of stage, pathological features, and biomarkers playing a role in guiding prognosis, risk stratification, and guiding neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapies. Histological features such as tumour budding, perineural invasion, apical lymph node involvement, lymph node yield, lymph node ratio, and molecular features such as MSI, KRAS, BRAF, and CDX2 may assist in prognostication and optimising adjuvant treatment. This study provides a comprehensive review of the pathological features and biomarkers that are important in the prognostication and treatment of CRC. We review the importance of pathological features and biomarkers that may be important in colorectal cancer based on the current evidence in the literature.

Abstract
Purpose Although papillary renal cell carcinoma (pRCC) is the second common renal malignant tumor, the current understanding of pRCC is poor. This study aims to explore the clinicopathological features and prognostic factors of pRCC. Methods From August 2007 and August 2017, 87 patients diagnosed with pRCC by postoperative pathology were enrolled. The clinicopathological features between type1 pRCC and type2 pRCC were compared by Chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, or t-test. The Kaplan–Meier method was performed to estimate progression-free survival (PFS). Univariate and multivariate cox regression models were used to verify the prognostic factors. Results Of the 87 cases, the median tumor diameter was 5.3cm. Twenty-nine patients were diagnosed with type1 pRCC and 58 patients with type2 pRCC. According pathological stage, 59 (67.8%) cases were in pT1 stage, 19 (21.8%) in pT2 stage, and 9 (10.4%) in pT3 stage. WHO/ISUP pathological grade revealed that 56 (64.4%) patients were in grade I, 17 (19.5%) in grade II, 7 (8.05%) in grade III, and 7 (8.05%) in grade IV. The median follow-up time was 57.0months, and the 1-, 3-year PFS was 95.4%, and 80.8%, respectively. For type1 and type2 pRCC, 3-years PFS was 93.0% and 74.9%, respectively. Survival of type1 pRCC was better than that of type2 (P= 0.027). Patients with late pT stage, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, high pathological grade, and large size exhibited worse survival. pTNM stage, pathological grade, and tumor types were potentially related to prognosis for PFS. However, an independent prognostic factor affecting PFS was not found in multivariate regression models. For patients with the pT1 stage, nephron-sparing surgery (NSS) and radical nephrectomy (RN) did not affect the PFS, ignoring tumor types (P=0.45). Conclusion Type2 pRCC is more than type1 pRCC and has an advanced TNM stage and a higher pathological grade. For patients with pRCC with the pT1 stage, the outcome of NSS is not inferior to that of RN.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features and immunohistochemical expression of P504s,E-cadherin,erythroblast transformation-specific related gene(ERG)and estrogen receptor(ER)in prostate adenocarcinoma in Tibet.Methods The clinical data of 15 patients with prostate adenocarcinoma diagnosed by the Department of Pathology of Tibet Autonomous Region People's Hospital from September 2013 to September 2020 were analyzed retrospectively.All patients were assigned to prognostic grade groups based on Gleason score according to the WHO 2016 criteria.Immunostaining of P504s,E-cadherin,ERG,and ER was performed.Results The age of all 15 patients ranged from 61 to 86 years.The serum prostate specific antigen(PSA)concentration was ≥20 ng/ml in 12 patients and<20 ng/ml in 3 patients.Among the 15 patients,11 underwent needle biopsy,1 transurethral resection of the prostate,and 3 radical prostatectomy.Prognostic grouping results revealed 5 cases in grade groups 1-3,4 cases in grade group 4,and 6 cases in grade group 5.Immunohistochemistrically,15 cases(100%)were positive for P504s,E-cadherin and PSA;one case(7%)was positive for ERG;all cases were negative for P63,ER and CK34βE12.Thirteen cases were followed up for 2-48 months,with 2 cases treated with total prostatectomy and 11 cases with non-surgical treatment.Two cases were lost to follow-up. Conclusions Prostate adenocarcinoma is rare relatively in Tibet.The accuracy of diagnosis can be improved by using multiple immunohistochemical markers.The cases of grades 4 and 5 by pathological confirmed are relatively common in Tibet.P504s and E-cadherin are highly expressed in prostate adenocarcinoma patients in Tibet,while ERG presents low expression,ER is unexpressed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent studies have shown that the microRNA-15a-5p (miR-15a-5p) plays varying roles in different malignancies. However, to date, the role and prognostic value of miR-15a-5p in patients with endometrial cancer has not been explored. This study investigated the expression level of miR-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma and its prognostic value. METHODS A total of 108 patients with endometrial cancer treated in our hospital from January 2015 to January 2016 were enrolled in this study. The patients were followed up for 5 years. Patients who experienced recurrence or metastasis after surgery were assigned into the recurrence and metastasis group (n=45) and the remaining patients were assigned into the control group (n=63). The expression level of microRNA-15a-5p in endometrial cancer was analyzed. Furthermore, the correlation between the expression of miR-15a-5p and the pathological features and prognosis was examined. RESULTS The expression of miR-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma was significantly lower than that in adjacent healthy tissues (2.22±0.75 vs. 2.59±0.91, P=0.000). Furthermore, the expression of miR-15a-5p in the endometrial cancer tissues of patients in the recurrence and metastasis group was significantly lower than that observed in patients in the control group (1.91±0.62 vs. 2.45±0.75, P=0.000). The receiver operating characteristic curve was used to analyze the predictive value of miR-15a-5p in endometrial cancer tissue for postoperative recurrence or metastasis in endometrial cancer patients. The area under the curve was 0.690 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.601 to 0.798, P=0.000], the best cut-off value of diagnosis was 2.325, the sensitivity was 0.619, and the specificity was 0.733. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that miR-15a-5p expression <2.325 was a risk factor for postoperative recurrence or metastasis of endometrial cancer [odds ratio (OR) =3.544 (95% CI: 1.489 to 8.436), P=0.004]. Furthermore, the expression of miR-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma was correlated with lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and patient mortality. CONCLUSIONS The expression of miR-15a-5p in endometrial carcinoma is related to lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and mortality. Furthermore, the expression of miR-15a-5p was significantly decreased in endometrial cancer patients with recurrence or metastasis and thus, miR-15a-5p may have certain value in predicting postoperative recurrence or metastasis in such patients.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to compare the clinicopathological characteristics of type 1 and type 2 papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC) and to explore the prognostic factors of PRCC in the Chinese population. Methods A total of 242 patients with PRCC from five Chinese medical centers were retrospectively included. From them, 82 were type 1 PRCC and 160 were type 2 PRCC. Clinicopathological features and oncologic outcomes were reviewed. The Kaplan-Meier analysis and log-rank test were performed to describe the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to analyze the prognostic factors of PRCC. Results Of the 242 patients, the average age at surgery was 55.3 ± 13.1 years. The mean tumor size was 5.1 ± 3.1 cm. Compared with type 1 PRCC patients, type 2 PRCC patients had a larger tumor size and were more likely to undergo radical nephrectomy. Besides, type 2 PRCC patients had higher tumor stage (p < 0.001) and WHO International Society of Urological Pathology (WHO/ISUP) grading (p < 0.001). Furthermore, tumor necrosis was more common in type 2 PRCC than type 1 PRCC (p = 0.030). The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the PFS and OS of type 1 PRCC patients were significantly better than those of type 2 PRCC patients (p = 0.0032 and p = 0.0385, respectively). Univariate analysis showed that tumor size, surgical procedures, pT stage, WHO/ISUP grading, and microvascular invasion were significant predictors of PFS and OS for type 2 PRCC patients. In the multivariate analysis, only pT stage (p = 0.004) and WHO/ISUP grading (p = 0.010) were the independent risk factors. Among type 2 PRCC patients with pT1 stage, no significant difference was found in PFS and OS between the partial nephrectomy and radical nephrectomy groups (p = 0.159 and p = 0.239, respectively). Conclusion This multi-institutional study reveals the significant differences in clinicopathological variables and oncologic outcomes between type 1 and 2 PRCC. For type 2 PRCC in pT1 stage, the prognosis of partial nephrectomy is not inferior to that of radical nephrectomy, and nephron-sparing surgery can be considered.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between energy spectrum computed tomography (CT) imaging and the pathological characteristics and prognosis of cervical cancer. METHODS All participants underwent energy spectrum CT plain scan and enhanced scan of the cervix, uterine body, and common iliac vein. The correlation between the slope of energy spectrum attenuation curve and pathological characteristics and curative effect was analyzed, and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of the slope of energy spectrum attenuation curve to distinguish some pathological characteristics and curative effect was constructed. RESULTS The energy spectrum curves of cervix, uterine body, and common iliac vein all showed a downward trend. The slope of cervix energy spectrum curve showed a significant difference in different differentiation degree (P<0.05), and the slope of energy spectrum curve showed an upward trend. The slope of energy spectrum curve of common iliac vein was significantly different between high and low cell proliferation antigen marker (Ki67) (P<0.05), and the slope of Ki67 high expression was higher than that of Ki67 low expression. Treatment was effective in 17 participants and ineffective in 11. After treatment, the energy spectrum curve slope of cervix and energy spectrum curve slope of common iliac vein in the effective group were significantly increased compared with before treatment (P<0.05), and the energy spectrum curve slope of cervix in the ineffective group was increased compared with before treatment, but the difference was not significant (P>0.05). The area under the curve (AUC) of distinguishing Ki67 expression of energy spectrum curve slope of common iliac vein was 0.7008, sensitivity was 66.67%, and specificity was 62.34%. The AUC of distinguishing the curative effect of cervical energy spectrum curve slope was 0.6131, sensitivity was 56.25%, and specificity was 59.09%. The AUC of distinguishing the curative effect of energy spectrum curve slope of common iliac vein was 0.6563, sensitivity was 60.42%, and specificity was 58.33%. CONCLUSIONS The energy spectrum curve slope has potential value in the prediction of certain specific pathological types of cervical cancer and the evaluation of curative effect.

Abstract
Background: Autopsies on COVID-19 deceased patients have many limitations due to necessary epidemiologic and preventative measures. The ongoing pandemic has caused a significant strain on healthcare systems and is being extensively studied around the world. Clinical data does not always corelate with post-mortem findings. The goal of our study was to find pathognomonic factors associated with COVID-19 mortality in 100 post-mortem full body autopsies. Materials and Methods: Following necessary safety protocol, we performed 100 autopsies on patients who were diagnosed with COVID-19 related death. The macroscopic and microscopic pathologies were evaluated along with clinical and laboratory findings. Results: Extensive coagulopathic changes are seen throughout the bodies of diseased patients. Diffuse alveolar damage is pathognomonic of COVID-19 viral pneumonia, and is the leading cause of lethal outcome in younger patients. Extrapulmonary pathology is predominantly seen in the liver and spleen. Intravascular thrombosis is often widespread and signs of septic shock are often present. Conclusion: The described pathological manifestations of COVID-19 in deceased patients are an insight into the main mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 associated lethal outcome. The disease bears no obvious bias in severity, but seems to be more severe in some patients, hinting at genetic or epigenetic factors at play.

Abstract
RATIONALE Pyloric gland adenoma (PGA) is often associated with pyloric gland metaplasia. It has high malignant potential but a low clinical diagnosis rate. Therefore, we reported a case of PGA and reviewed the literature to summarize the clinicopathological features of pyloric adenoma. PATIENT CONCERNS A 62-year-old female underwent gastroscopy due to intermittent acid regurgitation and heartburn, which revealed a 4×6 mm flat, elevated lesion in the greater curvature of the upper gastric body, with depression in the central region and blood scab attachment. DIAGNOSIS AND INTERVENTION Biopsy revealed gastric adenoma with low-grade intraepithelial neoplasia. The patient was treated with ESD, and pathology showed gastric pyloric gland adenoma with low-grade dysplasia. The cells were positive for MUC6 and MUC5AC immunohistochemically. OUTCOMES The patient received proton pump inhibitors and gastric mucosal protective agents for one month after ESD. She occasionally presented acid regurgitation and heartburn, with no abdominal pain, abdominal distension, melena, or hematochezia. Follow-up gastroscopy will be reexamined 1 year later. LESSONS PGA has nonspecific performance under endoscopy, and its diagnosis mainly depends on pathology. Clinicians need to increase their ability to recognize such lesions and treat them in time to improve the prognosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM The pathological significance of thrombospondin (TSP)-1 and -2 in bladder cancer (BC) is well-known whereas that of TSP-3, 4 and 5 remains unclear. Our aim is to clarify the pathological significance and prognostic roles of TSP-3 to 5 expression in BC patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS TSP-3 to 5 expression, proliferation index (PI), apoptotic index (AI) and microvessel density (MVD) were evaluated in 206 BC patients by immunohistochemical techniques. RESULTS TSP-5 expression was positively associated with grade, T stage, metastasis, and worse prognosis. PI in TSP-5-positive tissues was significantly higher compared to negative tissues. In contrast, AI in TSP-5-positive tissues was significantly lower compared to negative tissues. Expressions of TSP-3 and 4 were not associated with any clinicopathological features, survival, PI, or AI. CONCLUSION TSP-5 plays important roles in malignant behavior via cell survival regulation whereas the pathological significance of TSP-3 and TSP-4 in BC might be minimal.

Abstract
Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common causes of cancer worldwide. Although many studies have focused on oncogene characteristics, the genomic landscape of Chinese HCC patients has not been fully clarified. Methods A total of 165 HCC patients, including 146 males and 19 females, were enrolled. The median age was 55 years (range, 27-78 years). Corresponding clinical and pathological information was collected for further analysis. A total of 168 tumor tissues from these patients were selected for next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based 450 panel gene sequencing. Genomic alterations including single nucleotide variations (SNV), short and long insertions and deletions (InDels), copy number variations, and gene rearrangements were analyzed. Tumor mutational burden (TMB) was measured by an algorithm developed in-house. The top quartile of HCC was classified as TMB high. Results A total of 1,004 genomic alterations were detected from 258 genes in 168 HCC tissues. TMB values were identified in 160 HCC specimens, with a median TMB of 5.4 Muts/Mb (range, 0-28.4 Muts/Mb) and a 75% TMB of 7.7 Muts/Mb. The most commonly mutated genes were TP53, TERT, CTNNB1, AXIN1, RB1, TSC2, CCND1, ARID1A, and FGF19. SNV was the most common mutation type and C:G>T:A and guanine transformation were the most common SNVs. Compared to wild-type patients, the proportion of Edmondson grade III-IV and microvascular invasion was significantly higher in TP53 mutated patients (P<0.05). The proportion of tumors invading the hepatic capsule was significantly higher in TERT mutated patients (P<0.05). The proportion of Edmondson grade I-II, alpha fetoprotein (AFP) <25 µmg/L, and those without a history of hepatitis B was significantly higher in CTNNB1 mutated patients (P<0.05). CTNNB1 mutations were associated with TMB high in HCC patients (P<0.05). Based on correlation analysis, the mutation of TP53 was independently correlated with microvascular invasion (P=0.002, OR =3.096) and Edmondson grade III-IV (P=0.008, OR =2.613). The mutation of TERT was independently correlated with tumor invasion of the liver capsule (P=0.001, OR =3.030), and the mutation of CTNNB1 was independently correlated with AFP (<25 µmg/L) (P=0.009, OR =3.414). Conclusions The most frequently mutated genes of HCC patients in China were TP53, TERT, and CTNNB1, which mainly lead to the occurrence and development of HCC by regulating the P53 pathway, Wnt pathway, and telomere repair pathway. There were more patients with microvascular invasion and Edmondson III-IV grade in TP53 mutated patients and more patients with hepatic capsule invasion in TERT mutated patients, while in CTNNB1 mutated patients, there were more patients with Edmondson I-II grade, AFP <25 µmg/L, and a non-hepatitis B background. Also, the TMB values were significantly higher in CTNNB1 mutated patients than in wild type patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the diagnostic value of miRNA-145 (miR-145) and miRNA-205 (miR-205) in cervical cancer patients. METHODS Cervical tissue samples were collected from 144 patients diagnosed with and suspected to have cervical cancer in our hospital. Confirmed by pathology, 84 samples were obtained from cervical cancer patients and 60 samples were from patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. Meanwhile, 30 patients with cervicitis were also selected, and the expression levels of miR-145, miR-205 and human papillomavirus (HPV) were detected in cervical lesions and normal cervical tissue. RESULTS In comparison to normal cervical tissue, cervicitis and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia groups, the relative expression level of miR-145 was significantly lower, whereas the relative expression level of miR-205 was notably higher in the cervical cancer group, respectively (P<0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of miR-145 for diagnosis of cervical cancer in patients was 0.878, of which the sensitivity and the specificity were 0.905 and 0.822, respectively. The area under the ROC curve of miR-205 was 0.881, of which the sensitivity and the specificity was 0.869 and 0.889, respectively. Among all patients, the relative expression level of miR-145 was significantly lower while the relative expression level of miR-205 was considerably higher in HPV-positive patients than those of HPV-negative groups (P<0.001). Parauterine invasion, FIGO stage III-IV and lymphatic metastasis were considered as independent factors that affect the expression of miR-145. FIGO stage III-IV and lymphatic metastasis were independent factors affecting the expression of miR-205. CONCLUSION The low expression level of miR-145 and the high expression level of miR-205 in patients with cervical cancer demonstrate a certain diagnostic value in cervical cancer. The expression level of miR-145 and miR-205 is correlated with HPV infection and cervical tumor malignancy.

Abstract
Objective This study aims to analyze the endoscopic and pathological characteristics of colorectal laterally spreading tumors (LSTs) to assist malignant risk stratification to inform selection of the appropriate treatment strategy. Methods Patients with colorectal LST were selected as retrospective study objects. Characteristics, including endoscopic findings and the most common site of LSTs of different diameters and histological types, were analyzed. The risk factors for malignancy in colorectal LST were explored by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Results LSTs with diameters of ≥20 mm were found mainly in the rectum and mainly with granular-mixed (G-M) morphology (36% and 44.6%, respectively; p < 0.05), while LSTs with diameters of <20 mm were found mainly in the ascending colon and mainly with granular-homogenous (G-H) morphology (40.9% and 46.2%, respectively; p < 0.05). Adenoma was the main histological type in patients with tumors of all diameters. However, the cancerization rate of LSTs was 31% in patients with tumor diameter ≥20 mm, while there was no invasive cancer in patients with tumor diameter < 20 mm. In the low-grade dysphasia (adenoma) group, most of the lesions were located in the ascending colon and most had the morphology LST-G-H (35.8% and 39.2%, respectively; p < 0.05). In the cancerization group, most of the lesions were located in the rectum, with the morphology LST-G-M (51.6% and 67.2%, respectively; p < 0.05), and the diameter was larger than that of the adenoma group (33.84 ± 17.99 mm vs 21.68 ± 8.99 mm). Conclusion The rectum was the most common site for an LST with a diameter ≥20 mm and cancerization, of which the morphology was mainly LST-G-M (endoscopic submucosal dissection is the preferred treatment for this type of LST). LST malignancy was found to be correlated with lesion diameter, location, and morphological appearance.

Abstract
Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-positive mucocutaneous ulcer (EBVMCU) was first described as a lymphoproliferative disorder in 2010. EBVMCU is a unifocal mucosal or cutaneous ulcer that often occurs after local trauma in patients with immunosuppression; the patients generally have a good prognosis. It is histologically characterized by proliferating EBV-positive atypical B cells accompanied by ulcers. On the basis of conventional pathologic criteria, EBVMCU may be misdiagnosed as EBV-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma or other lymphomas. However, its prognosis differs from that of EBV-associated lymphomas, in that patients with EBVMCU frequently show spontaneous regression or complete remission without chemotherapy. Therefore, EBVMCU is now recognized as a low-grade malignancy or a pseudo-malignant lesion. Avoiding unnecessary chemotherapy by distinguishing EBVMCU from other EBV-associated lymphomas will reduce the burden and unnecessary harm on patients. On the basis of these facts, EBVMCU was first described as a new clinicopathological entity by the World Health Organization in 2017. In this review, we discuss the clinicopathological characteristics of previously reported EBVMCU cases, while focusing on up-to-date clinical, pathological, and genetic aspects.

Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to figure out the association between ophthalmic and pathological features in patients with Linear Nevus Sebaceous Syndrome (LNSS) and in patients with Oculoectodermal Syndrome-Encephalocraniocutaneous Lipomatosis (OES-ECCL). Methods: It is a retrospective, non-consecutive, observational case series. Twenty-seven patients (12 with LNSS and 15 with OES-ECCL, 41 eyes) referred to the Department of Ophthalmology of the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital between 2000 and 2020 were included. The mean age of the study population for the first-time consult was 5.7 years, ranging from 3 months to 34 years. Clinical notes, pathological records, and imaging findings were reviewed in all the patients. Results: Fourteen (51.9%) cases showed bilateral ocular involvement. Epibulbar choristomas were seen in all the patients. All the lesions involved the conjunctiva and cornea simultaneously. Multiple lesions were observed in 12 eyes. Of the 14 excised lesions, 11 were found to be complex choristomas. Further, 24 (89%) patients had eyelid coloboma. Also, 13 patients (48%) were diagnosed with strabismus, and 12 patients (44%) had abnormal fundus imaging, including optic nerve hypoplasia. Conclusions: LNSS and OES-ECCL shared common ophthalmic features, including epibulbar choristomas with distinctive characteristics, eyelid coloboma, strabismus, and optic nerve hypoplasia. The complex choristoma was found to be associated with the diseases. These specific patterns can be diagnostic clues to distinguish them from other syndromes, such as craniofacial defects, and to remind ophthalmologists that such patients require additional dermatological and neurological examinations and referral. Moreover, a thorough evaluation of ocular conditions is imperative for early interventions.

Abstract
Background There is insufficient research on the correlation between the apparent diffusion coefficient and clinicopathological characteristics of breast cancer patients. The present study is to investigate the correlation between the apparent diffusion coefficient and pathological characteristics of patients with invasive breast cancer. Methods From January 2019 to September 2020, 122 cases of invasive breast cancer and 21 cases of benign tumors were retrospectively enrolled. The apparent diffusion coefficient was compared between the two groups, and the correlation between the apparent diffusion coefficient and the pathological characteristics of the patients with invasive breast cancer were analyzed. Results Compared with the benign tumor group, the apparent diffusion coefficient in the invasive breast cancer group was significantly lower (0.89±0.17 vs. 1.47±0.27 10−3 mm2/s, P=0.000). Using the apparent diffusion coefficient to diagnose patients with invasive breast cancer, the area under receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was 0.966±0.021 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.924–1.000, P=0.000], and the best diagnostic cut-off value was 1.16 (10−3 mm2/s), with sensitivity and specificity of 0.905 and 0.902, respectively. The apparent diffusion coefficient was used to diagnose vascular tumor thrombus in patients with invasive breast cancer. The area under the ROC curve was 0.641±0.068 (95% CI: 0.508–0.774, P=0.047), and the best diagnostic threshold was 0.835 (10−3 mm2/s), with sensitivity and specificity of 0.676 and 0.650, respectively. The apparent diffusion coefficient in patients with high expression of Ki-67 (%) was significantly reduced (0.87±0.17 vs. 1.00±0.16 10−3 mm2/s, P=0.000). The apparent diffusion coefficient was not significantly correlated with age, menopause, lesion size, estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, or lymph node metastasis in patients with invasive breast cancer (P>0.05). Conclusions In patients with invasive breast cancer the apparent diffusion coefficient was significantly reduced. It was able to differentiate invasive breast cancer and vascular tumor thrombus, and was also related to Ki-67 (%) high expression.

Abstract
Male breast cancer is a rare disease accounting for less than 1% of all breast cancer diagnoses worldwide to our knowledge. The aim of this retrospective study is to analyse the epidemiologic, clinical, therapeutic and evolutive profiles of this disease and to compare some cancer aspects between male and female in 25 cases collected at Mohamed VI Oncology Center at the University Hospital of Casablanca between 2012 and 2018. Of all breast cancers, men with breast cancer make up a minority. Male compared to female breast cancers occurred later in life with higher stage and more estrogen receptor-positive tumors. The median age was 67.7 years. The average diagnosis delay was 15.7 month. Cancer was discovered through self examination in 76.1% of cases. The mean diameter was 3.5 cm and range from 1-6 cm. According to the tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) classification, tumors were classified as T1-T2 (40%) and T3-T4 (60%). Infiltrating ductal carcinoma was the most frequent (92%) and 1 case of lobular carcinoma. Axillary nodal involvement was present in 82.4% of cases. Hormonal receptors were positive in 83% of cases. 86.6% of our cases present metastasis. Bone was the most representative site. Surgery was usually mastectomy with axillary clearance. It was possible to follow 21 of the patients. The median of follow-up was 12 months. The evolution has been characterized by local recurrence in 6 cases. There was 9 cases of death. Death was usually due to comorbid disease and to the advanced age. The 5 years overall survival rates were 57%.

Abstract
Few studies exist on homozygous myostatin gene mutant (MSTN-/- ) pigs, especially on their reproductive ability. We have previously shown that semen quality of homozygous MSTN-/- boars is comparable to that of wild type (WT). However, no data exist on the reproductive ability of heterozygous MSTN gene mutant (MSTN+/ - ) sows. The present study highlights showed that the heterozygous MSTN+/ - sows have delayed pubertal age than WT sows (255.80 ± 6.79 versus 191.10 ± 3.42, respectively). The number of services per pregnancy of heterozygous MSTN+/ - sows is significantly higher than that of WT sows (3.33 ± 0.43 versus 1.60 ± 0.25, respectively). Moreover, although heterozygous MSTN+/ - sows have natural reproduction ability, their litter size was significantly lower than that of WT sows (7.75 ± 0.44 versus 14.25 ± 0.60, respectively). Offsprings generated from heterozygous MSTN+/ - sow and homozygous MSTN-/- boar were genotyped with the PCR and sequencing method to detect myostatin mutation and to identify whether the piglets are homozygous MSTN-/- or heterozygous MSTN+/ - . The proportion of homozygous MSTN-/- piglets was significantly lower than that of heterozygous MSTN+/ - piglets (2.50 ± 0.35 versus 5.25 ± 0.60, respectively). Furthermore, none of the sows presented dystocia, and the phenotype of heterozygous MSTN+/ - piglets was normal. However, 10% homozygous MSTN-/- piglets died of dyspnoea within 2 hr after birth, 60% of homozygous MSTN-/- piglets showed large tongues, and 50% had umbilical hernias. In summary, this study for the first time reports the reproduction traits of heterozygous MSTN+/ - sows crossbred with homozygous MSTN-/- boars. This study will pave the way in a new direction for the breeding and development of super lean meat varieties in the future.

Abstract
Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) with microinvasion (DCIS-MI) is defined as the extension of cancer cells beyond the basement membrane into adjacent tissue with no focus larger than 1 mm or a maximum diameter of less than 1 mm for multiple invasive foci. DCIS-MI constitutes approximately 1% of all breast cancer cases and 5% to 10% of cases of DCIS. The current literature is controversial concerning the clinical prognostic features and management of DCIS-MI. This narrative review described recently reported literature regarding the characteristics, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of DCIS-MI.

Abstract
Objective To explore the clinicopathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma(FDCS)and the expressions of IgG and IgG4. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological and immunohistochemical data of 9 pathologically confirmed FDCS cases in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2005 to December 2018.Immunohistochemical staining of IgG and IgG4 were performed,and Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)-encoded RNA(EBER)in situ hybridization were carried out. Results Nine cases of FDCS included 4 men and 5 women aged 16-53 years [mean(38.2±9.7)years].The clinical manifestations included masses,lymph node enlargement,rash,and fever.The tumors were located in lymph node,retroperitoneal region,adrenal gland,neck,axillary region,and liver,respectively.Ultrasound showed clear boundary cystic or solid mass with maximum diameters of 1.5-15.0 cm.Microscopically,the spindle tumor cells were arranged in solid and storiform patterns with abundant and slightly stained cytoplasm,vacuolated nuclei,and small nucleoli.The mitosis was 1-3/10 high power fields,and necrosis was found in 5 cases.Immunohistochemically,the tumor cells were positive for CD21(6/9),CD35(6/9),and CD23(7/9). Conclusions FDCS is a rare malignant tumor,which is easy to be missed.The combination of CD21,CD35,and CD23 is helpful for diagnosis.Hyaline-vascular type Castleman's disease may be the precursor of FDCS,and there may be only a small number of IgG4-positive plasma cells in FDCS.Surgical resection remains the main treatment for FDCS.

Abstract
The hearts of three dogs, clinically diagnosed as having persistent atrial standstill syndrome (PAS), were studied post mortem. The most significant gross findings in the hearts of all three dogs were dilatation and marked reduction in the thickness of both atrial walls. Histopathologically, all three had widespread progressive loss of the atrial myocardium with replacement by fatty or fibrofatty tissue, consistent with atrial myopathy. The lesion mainly affected the upper half of both atria and was more severe in the epimyocardium and midmyocardium than in the endomyocardium. On the basis of these observations, it is proposed that the atrial myopathy commences in the upper regions of both atria and progresses downwards, as has been demonstrated electrophysiologically in PAS in humans, and extends from the epicardium towards the endocardium.

Abstract
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP)-producing gastric cancer (AFPGC) is a relatively rare type of gastric cancer (GC). To improve the early diagnosis and treatment of AFPGC, we thoroughly investigated the clinicopathological features and prognosis of AFPGC. 139 GC patients who had received treatment from January 2013 to March 2016 in Jinan Central Hospital were included in this study. Blood samples for the pretreatment AFP examinations were collected. The relationship between the serum AFP and the clinicopathological features and prognosis were analyzed. Among the 139 GC cases, 16 cases (11.5%) were AFPGC patients. Compared with the AFP-negative (non-AFPGC) group, the AFPGC patients were prone to have distant metastasis (P=0.029), particularly in the liver, and the abdominal metastasis accounted for 79.4% (27/34). AFPGC patients' cancer is clearly prone to occur in the upper third of the stomach (P=0.008) and among younger (≤60 years old) patients (P=0.044). Furthermore, among the young and middle-aged (≤60 years old) patients, there were no significant differences in the serum carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), the cancer antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), or the combined (CEA+CA19-9) positive rate between the AFPGC and the non-AFPGC patients. A Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the median overall survival (mOS) of patients with AFPGC was significantly less than it was among the non-AFPGC patients (P=0.042). The serum AFP level (<100 ng/ml vs ≥100 ng/ml) is a prognostic factor for overall survival in AFPGC patients (P=0.041). In conclusion, the real-time examination of serum AFP has great diagnostic and prognostic value for managing AFPGC, especially for young and middle-aged patients.
