Abstract
ABSTRACT Candida auris is a highly transmissible yeast that is capable of causing invasive and fatal infections, particularly among persons with underlying medical conditions. Its incidence is rising, especially among patients cared for in post-acute care facilities. Individuals colonized with the yeast may be cared for in inpatient rehabilitation settings, without heightened risk for invasive infection and/or transmission to others, as long as appropriate infection control measures are followed. This article reviews key information for rehabilitation nurses caring for persons with C. auris , including risk factors for infection, the need for contact precautions, appropriate disinfection practices for therapy and diagnostic equipment, and critical components of safe transitions in the care of these patients.

Abstract
Aim Cerebral infarction, a common type of stroke, results from a sudden interruption of blood flow to the brain, leading to a myriad of challenges and complications for patients. Among these complications, decreased muscle strength is a prominent issue that can have profound implications for patients' overall well-being and functional independence. Decreased muscle strength in cerebral infarction often manifests as weakness, loss of mobility, and impaired ability to perform activities; the psychological impact of these physical limitations can lead to anxiety and depression, further exacerbating the patient's condition. To investigate the effect of progressive rehabilitation nursing on the physical rehabilitation and quality of life of patients with cerebral infarction, to provide valuable insights and guidance for enhancing the functional recovery of individuals affected by cerebral infarction. Design 100 cerebral infarction patients combined with decreased muscle strength admitted to our hospital between October 2019 and October 2020 were randomly selected as the study subjects for prospective analysis. Methods They were divided into a control group (n = 50) and an experimental group (n = 50) using the random number table method. Patients in the control group underwent rehabilitation treatment, while patients in the experimental group underwent progressive rehabilitation nursing intervention guided by quality nursing intervention. The Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) motor function score, National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) neurological function score, Barthel Index (BI), Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) scores, nursing efficiency and the incidence rate of adverse mood after 1, 2 and 3 weeks of nursing were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results The FMA and BI index scores of patients in the experimental group were notably higher than those in the control group, and the comparison was statistically significant (P < .05); The NIHSS, SAS and SDS scores of patients in the experimental group were notably lower than those of the control group, and the results of the comparison were statistically significant (P < .05); The nursing efficiency and nursing satisfaction of patients in the experimental group was remarkably higher, and the results of the comparison were statistically significant (P < .05); The incidence of bad mood in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group after 1, 2 and 3 weeks of nursing, and the incidence rate of adverse mood in the experimental group was improved with time, that is, 1>2>3 weeks in descending order (P < .05). Patient or Public Contribution Progressive rehabilitation nursing not only enhances muscle strength and restores their physical functions to a certain extent while reducing the incidence of adverse reactions and physical function but also mitigates the risk of adverse mood states. Ultimately, it contributes to an improved overall quality of life and psychological well-being of patients affected by cerebral infarction.

Abstract
This research was aimed at exploring the application value of a mobile medical management system based on Internet of Things technology and medical data collection in stroke disease prevention and rehabilitation nursing. In this study, on the basis of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, the signals collected by the sensor were filtered by the optimized median filtering algorithm, and a rehabilitation nursing evaluation model was established based on the backpropagation (BP) neural network. The performance of the medical management system was verified in 32 rehabilitation patients with hemiplegia after stroke and 6 healthy medical staff in the rehabilitation medical center of the hospital. The results showed that the mean square error (MSE) and peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of the median filtering algorithm after optimization were significantly higher than those before optimization (P < 0.05). When the number of neurons was 23, the prediction accuracy of the test set reached a maximum of 89.83%. Using traingda as the training function, the model had the lowest training time and root mean squared error (RMSE) value of 2.5 s and 0.29, respectively, which were significantly lower than the traingd and traingdm functions (P < 0.01). The error percentage and RMSE of the model reached a minimum of 7.56% and 0.25, respectively, when the transfer functions of both the hidden and input layers were tansig. The prediction accuracy in stages III~VI was 90.63%. It indicated that the mobile medical management system established based on Internet of Things technology and medical data collection has certain application value for the prevention and rehabilitation nursing of stroke patients, which provides a new idea for the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of stroke patients.

Abstract
At present, the most commonly used surgical treatment for fractures caused by external force injury is clinical, and unsupervised data mining is more advantageous in the face of the unknown format of perioperative network data. Therefore, this research aims to explore the application effect of unsupervised data mining in the concept of rapid rehabilitation nursing intervention after fracture surgery. 80 patients who underwent fracture surgery in the Department of Orthopedics of XXX Hospital were determined as the subjects, who were rolled into a research group (group R, 40 cases) and a control group (group C, 40 cases) by drawing lots. An unsupervised data mining algorithm based on unsupervised data mining for support vector machines (VDMSVMs) was proposed and applied to two groups of patients undergoing perioperative fracture surgery with the rapid rehabilitation nursing intervention and basic routine nursing. The results showed that the number of important features selected by the VDMSVM algorithm (5) was obviously more than that of the compressed edge fragment sampling (CEFS) algorithm (1) and the multicorrelation forward searching (MCFS) algorithm (2) (P < 0.05). The number of noise features screened by the VDMSVM algorithm (3) was much less in contrast to that of the CEFS algorithm and the MCFS algorithm, which was 8 and 10, respectively (P < 0.05). The Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores of the fracture site at the 4th, 8th, 12th, and 16th hour after surgery in group R were all lower than the scores in group C (P < 0.05). The length of hospital stay (LoHS) in group R was greatly shorter than that in group C (P < 0.05). After different nursing methods, the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) score of patients in group R (89.64 points) was greatly higher than the score in group C (61.45 points) (P < 0.05). The nursing satisfaction score of group R was 92.35 ± 3.65 points, and that in group C was 2.14 ± 1.25 points, respectively (P < 0.05). The test results verified the effectiveness of the feature selection of the VDMSVM algorithm. The rapid rehabilitation nursing intervention was conductive to reducing the postoperative pain of fracture patients, shortening the LoHS of patients, improving the quality of life (QOL) of fracture surgery patients, and increasing the patient's satisfaction with nursing.

Abstract
Studies have shown that rapid rehabilitation surgery has a positive effect on recovery after major orthopedic surgery. However, very few studies have examined the impact of fast track surgery on physical and psychological rehabilitation in patients who have undergone total hip replacement. This study aimed to investigate the value of the rapid rehabilitation surgical model for patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty during the perioperative period. We conducted a prospective cohort study that included patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty at our hospital from January 2015 to December 2018. We divided the patients into 2 groups - the rapid rehabilitation group and the conventional rehabilitation group - and compared their length of hospital stay, time to off-bed activity, pain score, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale scores, Self-Rating Depression Scale scores, complication rate, and rate of satisfaction during hospitalization.A total of 348 patients were included in the study. Of these, 180 received rapid rehabilitation nursing and 168 patients received conventional nursing. Compared with the patients in the conventional rehabilitation group, those in the rapid rehabilitation group had shorter hospital stays (11.5 ± 1.2 day vs 15.5 ± 2.3 day, P = .021), resumed off-bed activities sooner (20.5 ± 3.4 hours vs 61.8 ± 4.7 hours, P = .001, had less postoperative pain (4.0 ± 1.2 vs 6.5 ± 1.1, P < .001), and lower anxiety and depression scores (anxiety score: 24.4 ± 2.1 vs 47.9 ± 2.9; depression score: 25.8 ± 1.8 vs 43.7 ± 1.7, P < .001).The application of rapid rehabilitation surgery in total hip arthroplasty can accelerate patients' postoperative recovery, relieve anxiety and depression, and increase the patient's satisfaction with the treatment.

Abstract
Terbutaline aerosol and budesonide suspension are commonly used in the treatment of bronchial asthma, and budesonide suspension has local high efficiency and anti-inflammatory effects. In this paper, we selected 240 patients with bronchial asthma and randomly divided them into two groups. The experimental group was treated with atomization inhalation of terbutaline, after 5 minutes interval, nebulized inhalation of budesonide was performed. The control group was treated with atomized inhalation of mixed liquid as terbutaline and budesonide. After treatment, the cough scores of the two groups decreased, and the dyspnea score improved significantly compared with that before treatment (P<0.05).After treatment, the levels of IL-6, BNP and CRP were decreased in the two groups. There was a significant difference between the two groups after treatment (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse drug reactions was low. There were 2 cases of panic disorder and 8 cases of pharyngeal discomfort in the experimental group. The results show that the interval medication of terbutaline and budesonide in the treatment of bronchial asthma can achieve better clinical efficacy and can provide reference for clinical treatment. In addition, this method can effectively reduce the level of inflammatory factors in acute asthma patients, thereby reducing the damage of inflammatory factors to the body.

Abstract
Colon cancer is a common malignant tumor with particularly high morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of quick rehabilitation nursing and routine nursing in postoperative recovery of patients with colon cancer after laparoscopic surgery. Two hundred forty patients with colon cancer were classified into four random groups (A, B, C and D, with 60 patients in each group). All patients underwent surgery to remove the colon tumor by laparoscopy under general anesthesia. Patients in groups A and B received quick rehabilitation nursing for post-surgery recovery. In group C patients, local anesthesia associated with quick rehabilitation nursing for post-surgery recovery was used. Group D was used as control group and the patients were treated based on routine nursing. Time to get out of bed, first bowel movement time and the average time of hospitalisation in group A was lower than group D (p less than 0.05), postoperative leukocyte level as well as the occurrence rate of nausea and vomiting, ankylenteron and pelvic adhesion was decreased in group A compared to group D (p less than 0.05), but the postoperative albumin and total protein level was higher than group D (p less than 0.05). The serum level of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) in group A was decreased compared to group D several days after surgery (p less than 0.05); group B had 4 cases of intestinal obstruction after surgery that could be cured through conservative treatment, while group D had 10 cases of intestinal obstruction, 8 of which could be cured through conservative treatment and two needed surgery (p less than 0.05); VAS for pain degree of group C in active state was clearly lower at 1h, 5h, 7h, 15h, 30h and 42h after surgery, and side effects of postoperative analgesia were clearly reduced. Time to get out of bed was obviously decreased, while there was no evident effect on postoperative dosage, chronic pain and complications. Adopting quick rehabilitation nursing can effectively reduce occurrence of complications and postoperative pain, speed up the recovery of gastrointestinal function, shorten the length of stay, and improve patients satisfaction.

Abstract
To analyze the nursing effect on the respiratory function of thoracotomy patients, sixty thoracotomy hospitalized patients were studied. The subjects were divided into a normal group (A) and an observation group (B). The patients in group A received routine nursing only, while those in group B received chest physiotherapy as well as routine nursing. Afterwards, the respiratory function indicators of the two groups were compared and a data analysis was performed. The results showed that the partial pressure of oxygen (PO2) value of the patients in group B was greater than that of the patients in group A while the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PCO2) value in group B was smaller than that in group A, and there was a significant difference between the two groups (p less than 0.05). The vital capacity under normal circumstances and forced breathing of group B were greater than that of group A and the difference was statistically significant (p less than 0.05). The incidence of complications (atelectasis, respiratory infections, pleural effusion) was statistically significant between the two groups (p less than 0.05). The degree of autonomic respiratory dysfunction in group B was lower than that in group A, and there was a significant difference (p less than 0.05), suggesting that the respiratory function in patients receiving chest physiotherapy improved significantly.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study examined the effectiveness of the consensus model (Clinical Advisory Board for Intermittent Catheterization [CABIC] method) for teaching clean intermittent self-catheterization (ISC). The primary hypothesis was that the CABIC method of teaching ISC would result in higher ISC knowledge and performance scores. DESIGN Prospective, non randomized, pre-post study of an educational intervention of ISC education with nursing students. METHODS Nursing students completed a self-report pre-/posttest, education of the CABIC method, and video recording of the CABIC method using same-gendered manikins. The Le Danseur Instrument (LDI) was used to grade the video-recorded demonstration. FINDINGS Fifty participants completed three phases of the study. Paired t test showed statistically significant improvement in ISC knowledge. A mean score of 92-93 demonstrated a high level of participant education retention. CONCLUSIONS The CABIC method of teaching clean ISC is associated with improvement in generalized clean ISC knowledge and performance scores. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The CABIC method can be integrated into clinical practice as an evidence-based approach to teaching ISC.

Abstract
PURPOSE Compared to non-caregivers, caregivers have higher rates of depressive symptoms, caregiver strain, less mutuality, and health care visits. However, few investigators have examined family caregivers after coronary artery bypass (CAB) surgery. The purpose of this study was to examine differences in caregiving difficulties, mutuality (i.e., open communication; avoiding sad thoughts), and depressive symptoms based on low vs. high caregiving demands among spousal caregivers. DESIGN A descriptive, comparative design was used to examine 33 spousal caregivers of CAB surgery patients (16 in low and 17 in high caregiving demand groups). METHODS Measures included: Caregiving Burden Scale, Mutuality and Interpersonal Sensitivity Scale, and Patient Health Questionnaire-9. Groups were compared using Mann-Whitney U statistics. FINDINGS It was found that caregivers with high caregiving demands reported more caregiving difficulties and more open communication about the surgery compared to caregivers with low demands. CONCLUSION Caregivers with greater caregiving demands may need additional support to assist them with the caregiving situation. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Priority should be given to family caregivers, who take care of patients in cardiac rehabilitation, with higher caregiving demand.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Measurement of physical function post hip fracture has been conceptualized using multiple different measures. PURPOSE This study tested a comprehensive measurement model of physical function. DESIGN This was a descriptive secondary data analysis including 168 men and 171 women post hip fracture. METHODS Using structural equation modeling, a measurement model of physical function which included grip strength, activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, and performance was tested for fit at 2 and 12 months post hip fracture, and among male and female participants. Validity of the measurement model of physical function was evaluated based on how well the model explained physical activity, exercise, and social activities post hip fracture. FINDINGS The measurement model of physical function fit the data. The amount of variance the model or individual factors of the model explained varied depending on the activity. CONCLUSION Decisions about the ideal way in which to measure physical function should be based on outcomes considered and participants. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The measurement model of physical function is a reliable and valid method to comprehensively measure physical function across the hip fracture recovery trajectory.

Abstract
PURPOSE Most stroke survivors will be cared for at home by family caregivers with limited training. Families actively involved in rehabilitation feel more prepared for the new responsibilities of caring for the stroke survivor. The focus of this article is to highlight the relevant concepts of a family-centered model of care and provide general guidance on how integrating a family-centered mindset may be clinically applicable. DESIGN Concept Analysis. METHODS Synthesis of literature on family-centered care and its application in for rehabilitation nurses. FINDINGS Family-centered care is a model of collaborative healthcare that encourages collaboration and partnership among patients, families, and providers with respect to the planning, delivery, and evaluation of health care. Care provided within such a model can expand providers' knowledge of the impact of illness and any issues that may affect eventual transition back home. CONCLUSION Rehabilitation nurses should view stroke patients and family caregivers as a unit. Using family-centered strategies can help nurses provide appropriate, individualized care during rehabilitation.

Abstract
PURPOSE The occurrence of pressure ulcers (PrUs) challenges care facilities. Few studies report PrU reduction efforts in long-term acute care (LTAC). This study described the PrU reduction efforts of a single, LTAC facility using the Medline Pressure Ulcer Prevention Program (mPUPP). DESIGN This study was a quasi-experimental, quality improvement project, with pre- and postmeasurement design. METHODS Outcomes were tracked for 24 months. The mPUPP was implemented in month 11. Education for caregivers was provided through an interactive web-based suite. In addition, all Patient Care Technicians attended a 4-week 1-hour inservice. New skin care products were implemented. The facility also implemented an algorithm for treatment of wounds. FINDINGS There was a significant reduction in the mean monthly hospital-acquired PrU (nPrU) rate when preprogram is compared to postprogram. CONCLUSIONS Sustainable nPrU reduction can be achieved with mPUPP. CLINICAL RELEVANCE LTAC hospitals could expect to reduce nPrU with education and incentive of caregivers.

Abstract
Many ICU patients struggle to recovery following critical illness and may be left with physical, cognitive and psychological problems, which have a negative impact on their quality of life. Gross muscle mass loss and weakness can take some months to recover after the patients' Intensive Care Unit (ICU) discharge, in addition critical illness polyneuropathies can further complicate physical recovery. Psychological problems such as anxiety, depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are common and have an negative impact on the patients' ability to engage in rehabilitation after ICU discharge. Finally cognitive deficit affecting memory can be a significant problem. The first step in helping patients to recover from such a devastating illness is to recognise those who have the greatest need and target interventions. Research now suggests that there are interventions that can accelerate physical recovery and reduce the incidence of psychological problems such as anxiety, depression and PTSD. Cognitive rehabilitation, however, is still in its infancy. This review will look at the research into patients' recovery and what can be done to improve this where needed.

Abstract
The guideline emphasises the importance of careful multidisciplinary assessment and treatment in stroke rehabilitation, and provides guidance to support the long-term rehabilitation and care of people living with the effects of stroke. As well as recognising the benefits of a range of stroke rehabilitation interventions that are targeted and relevant to the individual, the guideline also highlights where there are gaps in the evidence to support best practice, and signposts the way for appropriate research projects to address these.

Abstract
GOAL Evidence-based guidelines exist for the prevention and treatment of patients with cerebral ischemia. Despite these guidelines, there are gaps in clinical practice. Our study aimed to determine if a physician-directed, nurse-case-management program could reduce individual patient vascular risk factors. METHODS Patients hospitalized with atherosclerotic cerebral ischemia with ≥ 1 major uncontrolled risk factor for stroke (hypertension, tobacco use, dyslipidemia, diabetes) were eligible to enroll in our study. Patients were randomized to management by the nurse-prevention program or usual care. Patients in the usual-care group received their initial risk-factor assessment and a scheduled follow-up at 1 year. Patients in the usual-care group underwent further follow-up by primary care and/or neurology as recommended during their hospitalization or outpatient visit. Patients assigned to the prevention group received individualized education, motivational interviewing, and were aided in setting up their risk-factor modification goal plan. Additional education was tailored to each patient based on individualized risk factors. Prevention-group patients also underwent consultation with a registered dietitian and an exercise physiologist. The primary endpoint of the study was improvement of ≥ 1 major patient risk factor for occurrence of stroke to goal at 1 year. RESULTS At 1-year post-hospitalization, patients in the nurse-care-management group were 42% more likely to have met the primary endpoint (n = 18; 61% nurse-managed patients) compared with 33% (n = 18) of patients undergoing usual care (P = 0.09). There was no significant reduction in minor risk factors for either patient group. Patients in the prevention group had greater reductions in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels (-38 vs -4; P = 0.0083), changes in cardiovascular risk score (-5.2 vs 1.3; P = 0.0033), and had a greater reductions in systolic blood pressure (-12.2 vs -0.105; P = 0.07) than their usual-care counterparts (changes shown respectively). Patients in the prevention group were more likely to follow a prescribed diet than those in the usual-care group (50% vs 7%, respectively; P = 0.0070) and maintain an exercise program (83% vs 33%, respectively; P = 0.0018). SUMMARY A physician-directed, nurse case-management system for patients post-hospitalization for cerebral ischemia is feasible and may help improve long-term control of major patient risk factors for stroke. A larger trial is needed to verify trends noted in our study.

Abstract
PURPOSE Preparation for caregiving is improved through engaged interactions between stroke family caregivers and healthcare providers throughout the care trajectory. We explored caregivers' perceptions about interactions with providers in rehabilitation, and how these experiences affected caregiver preparation. DESIGN Seventeen caregivers, included in this grounded theory study, were interviewed during a rehabilitation stay and postdischarge. Data were analyzed using dimensional and comparative analysis. FINDINGS Caregivers described interactions with providers on a continuum from collaborative to disconnected, and a range of strategies to enhance interactions. CONCLUSIONS Caregivers want to be actively engaged with providers during inpatient rehabilitation and collaborative interactions enhance preparedness and care satisfaction. RELEVANCE Family members should be assessed for caregiving capacity and interactions between providers and caregivers should be individualized to specific needs. Providers must also be aware that many caregivers are not active information seekers. They must engage caregivers who may not even know what questions to ask.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate a telenovela, "La Familia Nutritiva y Balanceada," for cultural context and its efficacy as an educational tool to promote positive health behaviors in Latino families. METHOD Ethnography was employed to interpret cultural health behaviors of 12 Latinas through a focus group after viewing the telenovela, a culturally accepted form of entertainment education. RESULTS Analysis of the transcribed interview revealed three recurrent themes: Not all fat is bad; add fruits and vegetables daily to diet; and children need to be involved. The group purported that the inclusion of children in the marketing and preparation of the food would translate into better food habits. DISCUSSION Participants demonstrated basic knowledge between food and health, and acknowledged that they gained an appreciation for good fat in the diet. The group related the telenovela would be a good tool for clinics, health fairs, and schools. CONCLUSION Latinos are at high risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke. Health education messages need to incorporate cultural norms into an intervention that supports a behavior change, such as improved nutrition. Studies support that Latinos connect to media, such as telenovela and interpersonal communication, which make these appropriate choices for health education tools.
