Abstract
Neuroimaging markers based on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) combined with various other measures (such as genetic covariates, biomarkers, vascular risk factors, neuropsychological tests etc.) might provide useful predictions of clinical outcomes during the progression towards Alzheimer's disease (AD). The use of multiple features in predictive frameworks for clinical outcomes has become increasingly prevalent in AD research. However, many studies do not focus on systematically and accurately evaluating combinations of multiple input features. Hence, the aim of the present work is to explore and assess optimal combinations of various features for MR-based prediction of (1) cognitive status and (2) biomarker positivity with a multi-kernel learning Gaussian process framework. The explored features and parameters included (A) combinations of brain tissues, modulation, smoothing, and image resolution; (B) incorporating demographics & clinical covariates; (C) the impact of the size of the training data set; (D) the influence of dimensionality reduction and the choice of kernel types. The approach was tested in a large German cohort including 959 subjects from the multicentric longitudinal study of cognitive impairment and dementia (DELCODE). Our evaluation suggests the best prediction of memory performance was obtained for a combination of neuroimaging markers, demographics, genetic information (ApoE4) and CSF biomarkers explaining 57% of outcome variance in out-of-sample predictions. The highest performance for Aβ42/40 status classification was achieved for a combination of demographics, ApoE4, and a memory score while usage of structural MRI further improved the classification of individual patient's pTau status.

Abstract
The CO2 -to-aromatics process is a chemical reaction that converts carbon dioxide (CO2 ) into valuable petrochemical, i. e., aromatics (especially, benzene, toluene, and xylene) over the metal/zeolite bifunctional catalytic systems. These aromatics are used in producing plastics, fibers, and other industrial products, which are currently exclusively sourced from fossil-derived feedstocks. The significance of this process lies in its potential to mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and simultaneously producing valuable chemicals. Consequently, these CO2 -derived aromatics can reduce the reliance on fossil fuels as a source of feedstocks, which can help to promote a more sustainable and circular economy. Owing to the existence of a wider straight channel favoring the aromatization process, zeolite ZSM-5 is extensively used to yield aromatics during CO2 hydrogenation over bifunctional (metal/zeolite) catalytic systems. To provide a better understanding of this unique property of zeolite ZSM-5, this work investigates the impact of particle size and hierarchy of the zeolite and how these govern the reaction performance and the overall selectivity. As a result, an improved understanding of the zeolite-catalyzed hydrocarbon conversion process has been obtained.

Abstract
Blue and green ammonia production have been proposed as low-carbon alternatives to emissions-intensive conventional ammonia production. Although much attention has been given to comparing these alternatives, it is still not clear which process has better environmental and economic performance. We present a techno-economic analysis and full life cycle assessment to compare the economics and environmental impacts of blue and green ammonia production. We address the importance of time horizon in climate change impact comparisons by employing the Technology Warming Potential, showing that methane leakage can exacerbate the climate change impacts of blue ammonia in short time horizons. We represent a constrained renewable electricity availability scenario by comparing the climate change impact mitigation efficiency per kWh of renewable electricity. Our work emphasizes the importance of maintaining low natural gas leakage for sustainability of blue ammonia, and the potential for technological advances to further reduce the environmental impacts of photovoltaics-based green ammonia.

Abstract
The Catalysis Hub - Swiss CAT+ is a new infrastructure project funded by ETH-domain, co-headed by EPFL and ETHZ. It offers the scientific community a unique integrated technology platform combining automated and high-throughput experimentation with advanced computational data analysis to accelerate the discoveries in the field of sustainable catalytic technologies. Divided into two hubs of expertise, homogeneous catalysis at EPFL and heterogeneous catalysis at ETHZ, the platform is open to academic and private research groups. Following a multi-year investment plan, both hubs have acquired and developed several high-end robotic platforms devoted to the synthesis, characterization, and testing of large numbers of molecular and solid catalysts. The hardware is associated with a fully digitalized experimental workflow and a specific data management strategy to support closed-loop experimentation and advanced computational data analysis.

Abstract
The valorization of CO2 to produce high-value chemicals, such as methanol and hydrocarbons, represents key technology in the future net-zero society. Herein, we report further investigation of a PdZn/ZrO2 + SAPO-34 catalyst for conversion of CO2 and H2 into propane, already presented in a previous work. The focus of this contribution is on the scale up of this catalyst. In particular, we explored the effect of mixing (1:1 mass ratio) and shaping the two catalyst functions into tablets and extrudates using an alumina binder. Their catalytic performance was correlated with structural and spectroscopic characteristics using methods such as FT-IR and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The two scaled-up bifunctional catalysts demonstrated worse performance than a 1:1 mass physical mixture of the two individual components. Indeed, we demonstrated that the preparation negatively affects the element distribution. The physical mixture is featured by the presence of a PdZn alloy, as demonstrated by our previous work on this sample and high hydrocarbon selectivity among products. For both tablets and extrudates, the characterization showed Zn migration to produce Zn aluminates from the alumina binder phase upon reduction. Moreover, the extrudates showed a remarkable higher amount of Zn aluminates before the activation rather than the tablets. Comparing tablets and extrudates with the physical mixture, no PdZn alloy was observed after activation and only the extrudates showed the presence of metallic Pd. Due to the Zn migration, SAPO-34 poisoning and subsequent deactivation of the catalyst could not be excluded. These findings corroborated the catalytic results: Zn aluminate formation and Pd0 separation could be responsible for the decrease of the catalytic activity of the extrudates, featured by high methane selectivity and unconverted methanol, while tablets displayed reduced methanol conversion to hydrocarbons mainly attributed to the partial deactivation of the SAPO-34.

Aim
Bowel incarceration is common complication in incarcerated hernias, which involves one of the most frequent emergent surgical pathologies.
Real-time fluorescence angiography with ICG is a reliable technique that allows surgeons to assess intestinal blood flow. However, this technique is rarely used in emergency surgery such as incarcerated hernia repair.
Materials & methods
We present the case of a 64-year-old patient with medical history of high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation and hepatitis C, complaining of abdominal pain and vomiting associated to painful inguinal hernia in the past 12 hours. The patient presented inguinal incarcerated hernia without any signs of external complication or elevation of infection and inflammatory parameters in blood test.
Results
We decided to carry out an urgent hernia repair performing transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) approach.
Once the hernia was repaired, intraoperative ICG fluorescence angiography was performed in order to evaluate intestinal viability. ICG fluorescence revealed the presence of irreversible ileal ischemia (12 cm) needing resection. Through mini-Pfannenstiel incision we performed the resection and a side to side stapled anastomosis. Postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged 3 days after the surgery.
Conclusions
The combination of laparoscopic approach and ICG fluorescence angiography seems to be an actual useful solution, combining the advantages of minimally invasive surgery and avoiding the risk of bowel perforation due to unnoticed ischemia thanks to the assess of intestinal perfusion.

Aim
The use of tackers for peritoneal closure in TAPP (transabdominal preperitoneal approach) is controversial because of the associated risk of vasculo-nerve injury. We present the case of a 56 years old male who came for hypovolemic shock due to hemoperitoneum after TAPP hernia repair in another center 72 hours earlier.
Material & Methods
We opted for an exploratory laparoscopy showing a massive hemoperitoneum due to a bleeding from the left epigastric artery at the site of placement of a tacker. Hemostasis was performed with bipolar energy and peritoneal approximation with glue after washing and aspiration.
Results
The patient was discharged on the third day without any complications.
Conclusions
Peritoneal flap closure in TAPP remains a controversial issue despite finding no significant differences between the different closure methods in the literature. Blind placement may injure vessels and nerves that require subsequent urgent surgery.
In selected patients, if the patient is stable, laparoscopy through the same trocars is a safe and reliable option to resolve hemoperitoneum after epigastric artery injury.

Abstract
The objective of this study is to describe the frequency and the clinical, paraclinical, and treatment profile of patients with lupus psychosis in a Colombian cohort of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). This retrospective cohort study evaluated epidemiological and clinical characteristics, results of neuroimaging, analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid, treatment, and disease evolution in patients with lupus psychosis. Among 2,479 patients with SLE, six female patients aged between 20 and 50 years with a diagnosis of lupus psychosis were identified. In two patients, psychosis was present at disease onset and in the other four, SLE was already present, although the majority of them were diagnosed less than two years prior to the onset of psychosis. The entire cohort had high disease activity as measured by SLEDAI-2K. We found concomitant cutaneous, joint, and hematological alterations. Cerebrospinal fluid data were obtained in half of the patients and were normal. We performed brain tomography on most of our patients, which was almost always described as normal. In 5 out of 6 patients, the induction therapy to treat psychosis was based on steroids, and in the majority of them, a resolution of psychiatric symptoms was observed after initiating treatment. Lupus psychosis is a rare event that usually occurs early in the course of the disease and is associated with other manifestations of SLE. This investigation mainly found concomitant cutaneous, joint, and hematological manifestations, with a favorable outcome after treatment, as described in the literature.

Abstract
Ethylene oxide is one of the most important raw materials in the chemical industry, with an annual production close to 35 million metric tons. Despite its importance, to date, no metal has been found that can compete with the original silver bulk material catalyst discovered in 1931. Recently, a few copper and copper-silver based nanostructures have demonstrated remarkable selectivity and activity, especially when coupled with an industrial chlorine promoter. The present work evaluates the mechanistic role of chlorine as an active promoter of the selective oxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide in the presence of a silver-copper oxide hybrid nanocatalyst (AgCuO). Experimental kinetic studies combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations provide insight into the influence that Ag/CuO-supported chlorine atoms have over the ethylene epoxidation reaction. Remarkably, the typically described indirect route via the formation of an oxametallacycle (OMC) is also accompanied by a direct route. Furthermore, the presence of chlorine seems to facilitate a more favorable adsorption energy for ethylene oxide (EO) than for acetaldehyde (AA), the main reaction by-product. As a result, complete oxidation of EO can be further prevented in the presence of this AgCuO hybrid heteronanostructure.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frailty is a complex geriatric syndrome arising from a combination of genetic and environmental factors and is associated with adverse health outcomes and mortality. A recent study reported an association between variants of the 9p21-23 locus, associated with a number of age-related disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), and frailty. Frailty has been associated with increased risk of developing AD and it has been proposed that frailty burden may modify AD clinical presentation. In view of the overlapping genetic architecture between the two disorders, it is noteworthy to conduct studies to uncover risk variants that contribute to both AD and frailty. The purpose of this study is to test the reproducibility of the association of 9p21-23 locus with frailty in a population that is ethnically different from previous work and in the context of multidimensional definitions of frailty that will allow us to examine the potential impact to domains pertaining to AD pathology. METHODS We operationalized frailty according two definitions and the corresponding instruments, the Frailty Index (FI) and the Tilburg Frailty Indicator (TFI) and we determined genotypes of eight alleles previously identified as risk increasing for frailty in 1172 community-dwelling older participants (57% females) from the HELIAD study with a mean age of 74 years old. We cross-sectionally investigated the association between risk alleles and frailty, as well as with specific components of each definition using linear regression analyses adjusted for age, sex and years of education. RESULTS Compared to non-carriers, carriers of rs7038172 C risk allele, were associated with a higher FI Score (β=0.089, p=0.002). Similarly, we found a positive association between the presence of at least one rs7038172 C variant and TFI score (β=0.053, p=0.04). Moreover, the rs7038172 variant was associated, irrespectively of dementia status, with the memory and psychological domain of FI and TFI, respectively. CONCLUSION Our study confirms the association of the rs7038172 C allele with the frailty syndrome in a Greek population and in the context of multidimensional definitions of frailty. Furthermore, we report novel associations between this allele and the memory domain of FI and the psychological domain of TFI, that includes memory problems on its components. Given that frailty burden has been shown to modify the AD clinical presentation, it is likely that rs7038172 C allele may accelerate the transition of AD or frailty to dementia Overall, our study corroborates the role of the 9p21-23 region in frailty development and draw potential links with AD pathology.

Abstract
Synthetic triterpenoids, 2-cyano-3,12-dioxooleana-1,9-dien-28-oic acid (CDDO) and its derivatives are known to have potent anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory activities. The mechanisms of actions of CDDO and its derivatives as potential therapeutics remain elusive. Previous studies found that CDDO-Me triggers apoptosis by inducing extracellular Ca2+ influx followed by endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-derived vacuolation. Since Ca2+ activity in cells is dynamic and needs to be tracked in real time in living cells, we report a high-throughput and high-content imaging method to track CDDO-induced Ca2+ fluctuation in both ER and cytosol with MATLAB script for data analysis and visualization.

Abstract
The production of carbon-neutral fuels from CO2 presents an avenue for causing an appreciable effect in terms of volume toward the mitigation of global carbon emissions. To that end, the production of isoparaffin-rich fuels is highly desirable. Here, we demonstrate the potential of a multifunctional catalyst combination, consisting of a methanol producer (InCo) and a Zn-modified zeolite beta, which produces a mostly isoparaffinic hydrocarbon mixture from CO2 (up to ∼85% isoparaffin selectivity among hydrocarbons) at a CO2 conversion of >15%. The catalyst combination was thoroughly characterized via an extensive complement of techniques. Specifically, operando X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) reveals that Zn (which plays a crucial role of providing a hydrogenating function, improving the stability of the overall catalyst combination and isomerization performance) is likely present in the form of Zn6O6 clusters within the zeolite component, in contrast to previously reported estimations.

Abstract
The PINK1/Parkin pathway plays an important role in maintaining a healthy pool of mitochondria. Activation of this pathway can lead to apoptosis, mitophagy, or mitochondrial-derived vesicle formation, depending on the nature of mitochondrial damage. The signaling by which PINK/Parkin activation leads to these different mitochondrial outcomes remains understudied. Here we present evidence that cannabidiol (CBD) activates the PINK1-Parkin pathway in a unique manner. CBD stimulates PINK1-dependent Parkin mitochondrial recruitment similarly to other well-studied Parkin activators but with a distinctive shift in the temporal dynamics and mitochondrial fates. The mitochondrial permeability transition pore inhibitor cyclosporine A exclusively diminished the CBD-induced PINK1/Parkin activation and its associated mitochondrial effects. Unexpectedly, CBD treatment also induced elevated production of mitochondrial-derived vesicles (MDV), a potential quality control mechanism that may help repair partial damaged mitochondria. Our results suggest that CBD may engage the PINK1-Parkin pathway to produce MDV and repair mitochondrial lesions via mitochondrial permeability transition pore opening. This work uncovered a novel link between CBD and PINK1/Parkin-dependent MDV production in mitochondrial health regulation.

Abstract
The production of carbon-rich hydrocarbons via CO2 valorization is essential for the transition to renewable, non-fossil-fuel-based energy sources. However, most of the recent works in the state of the art are devoted to the formation of olefins and aromatics, ignoring the rest of the hydrocarbon commodities that, like propane, are essential to our economy. Hence, in this work, we have developed a highly active and selective PdZn/ZrO2+SAPO-34 multifunctional catalyst for the direct conversion of CO2 to propane. Our multifunctional system displays a total selectivity to propane higher than 50% (with 20% CO, 6% C1, 13% C2, 10% C4, and 1% C5) and a CO2 conversion close to 40% at 350 °C, 50 bar, and 1500 mL g-1 h-1. We attribute these results to the synergy between the intimately mixed PdZn/ZrO2 and SAPO-34 components that shifts the overall reaction equilibrium, boosting CO2 conversion and minimizing CO selectivity. Comparison to a PdZn/ZrO2+ZSM-5 system showed that propane selectivity is further boosted by the topology of SAPO-34. The presence of Pd in the catalyst drives paraffin production via hydrogenation, with more than 99.9% of the products being saturated hydrocarbons, offering very important advantages for the purification of the products.

Abstract
Cascade processes are gaining momentum in heterogeneous catalysis. The combination of several catalytic solids within one reactor has shown great promise for the one-step valorization of C1-feedstocks. The combination of metal-based catalysts and zeolites in the gas phase hydrogenation of CO2 leads to a large degree of product selectivity control, defined mainly by zeolites. However, a great deal of mechanistic understanding remains unclear: metal-based catalysts usually lead to complex product compositions that may result in unexpected zeolite reactivity. Here we present an in-depth multivariate analysis of the chemistry involved in eight different zeolite topologies when combined with a highly active Fe-based catalyst in the hydrogenation of CO2 to olefins, aromatics, and paraffins. Solid-state NMR spectroscopy and computational analysis demonstrate that the hybrid nature of the active zeolite catalyst and its preferred CO2-derived reaction intermediates (CO/ester/ketone/hydrocarbons, i.e., inorganic-organic supramolecular reactive centers), along with 10 MR-zeolite topology, act as descriptors governing the ultimate product selectivity.

Abstract
The Lebedev process, in which ethanol is catalytically converted into 1,3-butadiene, is an alternative process for the production of this commodity chemical. Silica-magnesia (SiO2-MgO) is a benchmark catalyst for the Lebedev process. Among the different preparation methods, the SiO2-MgO catalysts prepared by wet-kneading typically perform best owing to the surface magnesium silicates formed during wet-kneading. Although the thermal treatment is of pivotal importance as a last step in the catalyst preparation, the effect of the calcination temperature of the wet-kneaded SiO2-MgO on the Lebedev process has not been clarified yet. Here, we prepared and characterized in detail a series of wet-kneaded SiO2-MgO catalysts using varying calcination temperatures. We find that the thermal treatment largely influences the type of magnesium silicates, which have different catalytic properties. Our results suggest that the structurally ill-defined amorphous magnesium silicates and lizardite are responsible for the production of ethylene. Further, we argue that forsterite, which has been conventionally considered detrimental for the formation of ethylene, favors the formation of butadiene, especially when combined with stevensite.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In breeding herds, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) clinically manifests as increased abortions, number of stillbirths, and pre-weaning mortality, and as a direct consequence, results in a decrease of the number of piglets weaned per sow per year. Breeding farm classification according the PRRS virus (PRRSV) status (unstable or stable) is a key control strategy for this disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the production improvement related to achieving a PRRSV stable status in breeding herds in Spain. For this purpose, epidemiological and productivity data were collected from a systematic PRRSV monitoring program in 35 breeding herds from a large integrated swine group in Spain. A comparative statistical analysis was conducted using four key production indicators (KPI) between different PRRSV status and a generalized linear mixed model: weekly abortions/1000 sows (ABTHS), born-alive rate (BAR), pre-weaning mortality rate (PWMR), and number of weaned piglets per 1000 sows (WPTHS). RESULTS From the 35 monitored farms during a total period of 58 weeks, we collected 49 to 58 weeks of production data and PRRSV classification status for each study farm. This represented a total of 1997 (741 unstable and 1256 stable) weekly data collected that was eligible for the KPI comparative study. PRRSV stability was associated with significant improvement in BAR (+ 1.10 %, p < 0.001), PWMR (-0.88 %, p < 0.002) and WPTHS (+ 24.52, p < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS These results demonstrate for the first time the improved production due to achieving PRRSV stability in breeding herds under field conditions in a European country. Increased number of born-alive piglets and a reduction of piglet pre-weaning mortality represents an increase of 1.28 weaned piglets per sow per year if PRRSV stability was achieved and maintained for one-year period in a breeding farm.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a complex psychiatric disorder with a substantial genetic contribution. While the specific variants underlying OCD's heritability are still unknown, findings from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) corroborate the importance of common SNPs explaining the phenotypic variance in OCD. Investigating associations between the genetic liability for OCD, as reflected by a polygenic risk score (PRS), and potential endophenotypes of the disorder, such as the personality trait harm avoidance, may aid the understanding of functional pathways from genes to diagnostic phenotypes. METHODS We derived PRS for OCD at several P-value thresholds based on the latest Psychiatric Genomics Consortium OCD GWAS (2688 cases, 7037 controls) in an independent sample of OCD patients (n = 180), their unaffected first-degree relatives (n = 108) and healthy controls (n = 200). Using linear regression, we tested whether these PRS are associated with the personality trait harm avoidance. RESULTS Results showed that OCD PRS significantly predicted OCD status, with patients having the highest scores and relatives having intermediate scores. Furthermore, the genetic risk for OCD was associated with harm avoidance across the entire sample, and among OCD patients. As indicated by mediation analyses, harm avoidance mediated the association between the OCD PRS and OCD caseness. These results were observed at multiple P-value thresholds and persisted after the exclusion of patients with a current comorbid major depressive or anxiety disorder. CONCLUSION Our findings support the polygenic nature of OCD and further validate harm avoidance as a candidate endophenotype and diathesis of OCD.

Abstract
Since 1887, red mud has been an unavoidable waste derived from the production of alumina in the Bayer process. Because of its high alkalinity and metal loading, red mud disposal and storage constitute a significant environmental risk. With worldwide storage capacity reaching its limits and no alternatives to the Bayer Process, the development of methods for the valorization of red mud is a must. In this study, red mud is converted into an efficient catalyst for the valorization of CO2 . By simple potassium promotion, 45 % conversion of CO2 with a light olefin (C2 -C4 ) selectivity of 36 % is achieved at 375 °C, 30 bar, and 9600 mL g-1 h-1 , matching the performance of some of the best catalysts reported to date.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate cross-sectional associations between dietary patterns and cognitive functioning in elderly free of dementia. Methods Data of 389 participants from the German DELCODE study (52% female, 69 ± 6 years, mean Mini Mental State Score 29 ± 1) were included. The sample was enriched with elderly at increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) by including participants with subjective cognitive decline, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and siblings of AD patients. Mediterranean and MIND diets were derived from 148 Food Frequency Questionnaire items, and data-driven patterns by principal component analysis (PCA) of 39 food groups. Associations between dietary patterns and five cognitive domain scores were analyzed with linear regression analyses adjusted for demographics (model 1), and additionally for energy intake, BMI, other lifestyle variables and APOe4-status (model 2). For PCA-derived dietary components, final model 3 included all other dietary components. Results In fully adjusted models, adherence to Mediterranean and MIND diet was associated with better memory. The ‘alcoholic beverages’ PCA component was positively associated with most cognitive domains. Exclusion of MCI subjects (n = 60) revealed that Mediterranean and MIND diet were also related to language functions; associations with the alcoholic beverages component were attenuated, but most remained significant. Conclusion In line with data from elderly population samples, Mediterranean and MIND diet and some data-derived dietary patterns were related to memory and language function. Longitudinal data are needed to draw conclusions on the putative effect of nutrition on the rate of cognitive decline, and on the potential of dietary interventions in groups at increased risk for AD. Abstract
Modern society benefits from the improvement of life quality and life expectancy compared to society 50 or 100 years ago (1). However, living longer is also accompanied by negative developments which include an increase in the incidence of non-communicable chronical diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, cancer. In fact, NCDs are becoming one of the greatest threats of our time (2). Why is that? because NCDs have a deep impact at key levels of our society, including the individuum level and the economic level, though often both levels are interconnected and influenced by each other. At the personal level, NCDs have a profound effect on the quality of life of the affected person, as well as on the person’s family and on caregivers. As an example, we can consider a person who is diagnosed with dementia. For this patient begins an irreversible and unstoppable journey in the complete dependency from others and, after a given time of progression, to death, even if the patient is treated with the best disease-modifying therapies. For the patient self, this diagnose means early retirement from working life reducing consequently familial income. Given the limitation of dementia patients in their daily life activities, one or more family members will need to reduce time at work or completely take time off to care for the patient. However, increasing dependency developed by the patient will lead, sooner or later, to deep changes in the familial routine to take care of the patient that will also be associated with threatening financial problems for the complete family. Moreover, the emotional and physical drain produced while dementia progresses can be overwhelming for family and caregivers leading, sometimes, to depression and chronical stress which could last for years and incur additional cost for the family. Hence, dementia diagnosis has an enormous emotional, physical and financial burden for patients, as well as for families. From a financial perspective, the lifetime cost, in 2017, for caring for a patient with Alzheimer’s disease in the USA has been estimated in 341,840 U$ dollars (3). If we take this figure as reference, we can obtain a rough figure for the financial burden produced through the lifetime cost for the 10 million of new dementia patients diagnosed every year worldwide as reported by the world health organization in 2019 (www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/dementia). In fact, dementia care already costs around 1% of the world’s gross domestic product, and it is estimated that by the year 2050 the cost of dementia care will go up to 1.1 trillion U$ dollars (3). Importantly, dementia is one among several NCDs that will cost the world in terms of treatment, over the next two decades (2010-2030), about 47 trillion U$ dollars (4). In consequence, identifying factors and pathways involved in NCDs leading to prevention or delaying of disease onset will likely have a major impact on care cost and governmental prevention policies.

Abstract
Chronic postoperative pain is common and can have a negative impact on quality of life. Recent studies show that genetic risk factors are likely to play a role, although only gene‐targeted analysis has been used to date. This is the first genome‐wide association study to identify single‐nucleotide polymorphisms associated with the development of chronic postoperative pain based on two independent cohorts. In a discovery cohort, 330 women scheduled for hysterectomy were genotyped. A case–control association analysis compared patients without chronic postoperative pain and the 34 who had severe chronic postoperative pain 3 months after surgery. No single‐nucleotide polymorphisms reached genome‐wide significance, but several showed suggestive associations with chronic postoperative pain (p < 1 × 10−5). Single‐nucleotide polymorphisms with significance p < 1 × 10−5 were followed up in a replication cohort consisting of 203 men and women scheduled for orthopaedic or abdominal surgery. Ten of these patients developed severe chronic postoperative pain. A single‐nucleotide polymorphism in NAV3 was significantly replicated with chronic postoperative pain in the replication cohort (p = 0.009). Meta‐analysis revealed that two loci (IQGAP1 and CRTC3) were significantly associated with chronic postoperative pain at 3 months (IQGAP1 p = 3.93 × 10−6 β = 2.3863, CRTC3 p = 2.26 × 10−6, β = 2.4209). The present genome‐wide association study provides initial evidence for genetic risk factors of chronic postoperative pain and supports follow‐up studies.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the relevance of asking young psychiatric patients about childhood symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).Method: A total of 180 young adults (18-25 years of age) from a general psychiatric out-patient clinic in Uppsala filled in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Screening Inventory-Retrospect (CAPSI-R) as part of the diagnostic procedure. The study population was divided into groups based on number and subtype of reported ADHD symptoms, inattention (IN) or hyperactivity/impulsivity (HI). The clinical characteristics associated with different symptoms of ADHD were explored.Results: The groups with five or more self-reported ADHD childhood symptoms, of either IN or HI, had more psychiatric comorbid conditions, a significantly higher co-occurrence of substance use disorders and personality disorders, and experienced more psychosocial and environmental problems.Conclusion: High level of self-reported ADHD childhood symptoms in young psychiatric patients identified a group more burdened with psychiatric comorbid conditions and more psychosocial problems. This group should be offered a thorough diagnostic assessment of ADHD.
