Abstract
On December 5, 2022, an indirect drive fusion implosion on the National Ignition Facility (NIF) achieved a target gain G_{target} of 1.5. This is the first laboratory demonstration of exceeding "scientific breakeven" (or G_{target}>1) where 2.05 MJ of 351 nm laser light produced 3.1 MJ of total fusion yield, a result which significantly exceeds the Lawson criterion for fusion ignition as reported in a previous NIF implosion [H. Abu-Shawareb et al. (Indirect Drive ICF Collaboration), Phys. Rev. Lett. 129, 075001 (2022)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.129.075001]. This achievement is the culmination of more than five decades of research and gives proof that laboratory fusion, based on fundamental physics principles, is possible. This Letter reports on the target, laser, design, and experimental advancements that led to this result.

Schistosomiasis screening in non-endemic countries from a cost perspective: Knowledge gaps and research priorities. The case of African long-term residents in a Metropolitan Area, Spain. Abstract
BACKGROUND Imported schistosomiasis is an emerging issue in European countries as a result of growing global migration from schistosomiasis-endemic countries, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa. Undetected infection may lead to serious long-term complications with an associated high cost for public healthcare systems especially among long-term migrants. OBJECTIVE To evaluate from a health economics perspective the introduction of schistosomiasis screening programs in non-endemic countries with high prevalence of long-term migrants. METHODOLOGY We calculated the costs associated with three approaches-presumptive treatment, test-and-treat and watchful waiting-under different scenarios of prevalence, treatment efficacy and the cost of care resulting from long-term morbidity. Costs were estimated for our study area, in which there are reported to reside 74,000 individuals who have been exposed to the infection. Additionally, we methodically reviewed the potential factors that could affect the cost/benefit ratio of a schistosomiasis screening program and need therefore to be ascertained. RESULTS Assuming a 24% prevalence of schistosomiasis in the exposed population and 100% treatment efficacy, the estimated associated cost per infected person of a watchful waiting strategy would be €2,424, that of a presumptive treatment strategy would be €970 and that of a test-and-treat strategy would be €360. The difference in averted costs between test-and-treat and watchful waiting strategies ranges from nearly €60 million in scenarios of high prevalence and treatment efficacy, to a neutral costs ratio when these parameters are halved. However, there are important gaps in our understanding of issues such as the efficacy of treatment in infected long-term residents, the natural history of schistosomiasis in long-term migrants and the feasibility of screening programs. CONCLUSION Our results support the roll-out of a schistosomiasis screening program based on a test-and-treat strategy from a health economics perspective under the most likely projected scenarios, but important knowledge gaps should be addressed for a more accurate estimations among long-term migrants.

Abstract
Environmental assessment in marine systems is difficult because most of the time their preindustrial characteristics are not available. Four sediment cores taken in Mejillones bay (northern Chile) were used to establish preindustrial metals concentrations, and to assess the environmental status of this industrialized zone. According to historical documents, the beginning of the industrial era start in 1850 CE. Considering this, the preindustrial concentration of some metals was established, by mean of a statistical approach. Most of the metals increase their concentration from the preindustrial to the industrial period. Environmental assessment showed an enrichment of Zr and Cr, a moderately polluted condition, and a low probability of toxic effect on the biological communities. The preindustrial values derived from sediment cores are a good tool to evaluate the environmental condition of Mejillones bay. However new information (backgrounds with a higher spatial representativity, toxicological threshold, and others) it is necessary to improve the environmental assessment of this environment.

[Effectiveness of a psychotherapeutic intervention group program in the improvement of caregiver well-being in Alzheimer's disease patients' family caregivers: the CuiDem study]. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's Disease experience physical and emotional burnout that can be treated with non-pharmacological interventions. AIM Assess the efficacy of a group cognitive behavioural psychotherapeutic intervention, for improving well-being perception in caregivers, compared to a support group. Also, we assessed its efficacy after a follow-up period of 1-year post-intervention. SUBJECTS AND METHODS A multicentre, open, quasi experimental study with control group was conducted. 221 caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's Disease, with mild to moderate-severe dementia, were non-randomly assigned to either IG-intervention group: psychotherapeutic program without active follow-up period (n = 80); IGF-intervention group: psychotherapeutic program with active follow-up period (n = 78); or CG-control group: support program with active follow-up period (n = 63). The psychotherapeutic intervention (IG and IGF) is a structured cognitive behavioural group program, of one weekly session over four months. The CG had the same duration. Caregiver's burden, mood disorders, resilience, perceived functional social support and quality of life were measured at baseline, post-intervention and after 1-year follow-up. RESULTS At post-intervention, statistically significant improvements were observed in the IG and IGF compared to CG in caregiver burden (p = 0,0216). After one year follow-up, significant improvements were found in IGF compared to IG in emotional state (p = 0,0271), resilience (p = 0,0018), perceived social support (p = 0,014); quality of life (p = 0,0001) and mental health (p = 0,0002); and in CG versus GI in emotional state and social support (p < 0,05). CONCLUSIONS These results support the efficacy of this psychotherapeutic intervention for improving well-being (burden), and the supportive follow-up period for increasing its efficacy.

Abstract
For more than half a century, researchers around the world have been engaged in attempts to achieve fusion ignition as a proof of principle of various fusion concepts. Following the Lawson criterion, an ignited plasma is one where the fusion heating power is high enough to overcome all the physical processes that cool the fusion plasma, creating a positive thermodynamic feedback loop with rapidly increasing temperature. In inertially confined fusion, ignition is a state where the fusion plasma can begin "burn propagation" into surrounding cold fuel, enabling the possibility of high energy gain. While "scientific breakeven" (i.e., unity target gain) has not yet been achieved (here target gain is 0.72, 1.37 MJ of fusion for 1.92 MJ of laser energy), this Letter reports the first controlled fusion experiment, using laser indirect drive, on the National Ignition Facility to produce capsule gain (here 5.8) and reach ignition by nine different formulations of the Lawson criterion.

Abstract
DUNE is a dual-site experiment for long-baseline neutrino oscillation studies, neutrino astrophysics and nucleon decay searches. ProtoDUNE Dual Phase (DP) is a 6 × 6 × 6 m 3 liquid argon time-projection-chamber (LArTPC) that recorded cosmic-muon data at the CERN Neutrino Platform in 2019-2020 as a prototype of the DUNE Far Detector. Charged particles propagating through the LArTPC produce ionization and scintillation light. The scintillation light signal in these detectors can provide the trigger for non-beam events. In addition, it adds precise timing capabilities and improves the calorimetry measurements. In ProtoDUNE-DP, scintillation and electroluminescence light produced by cosmic muons in the LArTPC is collected by photomultiplier tubes placed up to 7 m away from the ionizing track. In this paper, the ProtoDUNE-DP photon detection system performance is evaluated with a particular focus on the different wavelength shifters, such as PEN and TPB, and the use of Xe-doped LAr, considering its future use in giant LArTPCs. The scintillation light production and propagation processes are analyzed and a comparison of simulation to data is performed, improving understanding of the liquid argon properties.

Attachment and Survival of Salmonella enterica and Listeria monocytogenes on Tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) as Affected by Relative Humidity, Temperature, and Storage Time. Abstract
ABSTRACT Tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) are one of the most commonly consumed fruits worldwide. The fruit can become contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes at various stages of the production and supply chain, and these pathogens may survive under various storage conditions. The effects of relative humidity, temperature, and duration of storage on the attachment and survival of both pathogens on the surface of tomatoes were investigated. Fresh whole Roma tomatoes were inoculated with a cocktail of Salmonella or L. monocytogenes strains and stored at 5, 12, 25, 30, or 35°C for up to 10 days. Every day during storage, relative humidity and temperature were measured and tomatoes were removed to enumerate pathogens cells that were loosely attached (LA; cells were detached from the tomato surface by rinsing) and strongly attached (SA; sonication was required to detach cells from the tomato surface). The attachment strength (SR) was calculated to express the proportion of surviving SA cells on the tomato surface. The initial levels of Salmonella and L. monocytogenes on the tomato surface after inoculation were 6.6 and 6.5 log CFU per tomato for LA cells and 5.1 and 5.6 log CFU per tomato for SA cells, respectively. For both pathogens, the LA levels were higher (P < 0.05) than the SA levels. The LA and SA levels differed significantly as a function of temperature, relative humidity, and duration of storage. The SR for Salmonella was affected by storage time but not temperature, whereas the SR for L. monocytogenes was affected by storage time and temperature and relative humidity (P < 0.05). An understanding of the attachment and survival of Salmonella and L. monocytogenes on tomatoes stored under various temperature conditions may be useful for preventing or reducing the establishment of pathogens and for designing improved decontamination methods. Abstract
Introduction
Patients with bipolar disorder (BD) have an increased risk for cardiovascular morbimortality. Clinical risk factors, specifically for arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death remain understudied. Objectives This study was conducted to assess differences in cardiac conduction among BD patients. Methods We included patients with BD in a cross-sectional design, confirmed by structured interview, age 18 through 80. Clinical characteristics were obtained using a structured questionnaire or medical records review. ECG intervals duration and morphology were manually assessed by cardiologists and compared among clinical subgroups using Chi-square, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskall-Wallis tests. Exploratory multivariable linear and logistic regression models were fitted to adjust for potential confounders. Results We included 117 patients (60.7% women, 76.9% bipolar I, 50% history of psychosis, 22.6% suicide attempts). We found a significantly longer QTc interval in BD patients with hypertension (difference: 9.5 ms, p=0.006), obesity (difference: 25 ms, p=0.001), and metabolic syndrome (difference: 13 ms, p=0.007). Hypertension remained a significant predictor of longer QTc after adjusting for age, gender, and antipsychotic use (estimate 17.718, p=0.018). We observed a significantly shorter PR interval in women (difference: 6 ms, p=0.029), early age of onset (difference 6 ms, p=0.025), non-users of lithium (difference 4 ms, p=0.002), and early trauma (difference 4 ms, p=0.038). Finally, we identified significant correlations between symptom severity, blood glucose and PR interval (r=0.298, p=0.001; r=0.278, p=0.003; respectively). Conclusions Patients with BD and hypertension may have an increased risk for QTc prolongation. Careful cardiovascular monitoring may be warranted. Disclosure No significant relationships.

Abstract
The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will be a powerful tool for a variety of physics topics. The high-intensity proton beams provide a large neutrino flux, sampled by a near detector system consisting of a combination of capable precision detectors, and by the massive far detector system located deep underground. This configuration sets up DUNE as a machine for discovery, as it enables opportunities not only to perform precision neutrino measurements that may uncover deviations from the present three-flavor mixing paradigm, but also to discover new particles and unveil new interactions and symmetries beyond those predicted in the Standard Model (SM). Of the many potential beyond the Standard Model (BSM) topics DUNE will probe, this paper presents a selection of studies quantifying DUNE's sensitivities to sterile neutrino mixing, heavy neutral leptons, non-standard interactions, CPT symmetry violation, Lorentz invariance violation, neutrino trident production, dark matter from both beam induced and cosmogenic sources, baryon number violation, and other new physics topics that complement those at high-energy colliders and significantly extend the present reach.

Abstract
The outwelling paradigm argues that mangrove and saltmarsh wetlands export much excess production to downstream marine systems. However, outwelling is difficult to quantify and currently 40-50% of fixed carbon is unaccounted for. Some carbon is thought outwelled through mobile fauna, including fish, which visit and feed on mangrove produce during tidal inundation or early life stages before moving offshore, yet this pathway for carbon outwelling has never been quantified. We studied faunal carbon outwelling in three arid mangroves, where sharp isotopic gradients across the boundary between mangroves and down-stream systems permitted spatial differentiation of source of carbon in animal tissue. Stable isotope analysis (C, N, S) revealed 22-56% of the tissue of tidally migrating fauna was mangrove derived. Estimated consumption rates showed that 1.4% (38 kg C ha-1 yr-1) of annual mangrove litter production was directly consumed by migratory fauna, with <1% potentially exported. We predict that the amount of faunally-outwelled carbon is likely to be highly correlated with biomass of migratory fauna. While this may vary globally, the measured migratory fauna biomass in these arid mangroves was within the range of observations for mangroves across diverse biogeographic ranges and environmental settings. Hence, this study provides a generalized prediction of the relatively weak contribution of faunal migration to carbon outwelling from mangroves and the current proposition, that the unaccounted-for 40-50% of mangrove C is exported as dissolved inorganic carbon, remains plausible.

Abstract
The sex pheromone of the avocado moth Stenoma catenifer Walsingham has potential use in the detection of S. catenifer males in the Antillean race avocado in Chiapas, Mexico, although the study of local parameters that influence its effectiveness is required. In this study, trap type, trap height, pheromone release rate and duration of pheromone activity were evaluated to determine the effectiveness of this pheromone in field conditions in the Antillean race avocado crops of the coast of Chiapas, Mexico. The results obtained indicate that the capture of moths with the traps Pherocon III (delta type) and Pherocon 1C (wing type) was higher than that with the boat-type traps. The frequency of capture of S. catenifer males was higher when the traps were placed 4 and 6 m above ground level than that when they were 2 m high. The septum releases 85% of the amount of pheromone during the first 4 weeks, and there were no differences between the number of moth captures during the first 3 weeks, only between the fourth and the first 2 weeks. Our results suggest that the efficiency of the pheromone in Antillean race avocado depends on trap placement height and type as well as on the time of use of the pheromone septum.

Abstract
Background:Access to biosimilar drugs in Mexico started on 2014. Although biosimilar drugs safety has proved comparability to originator drugs on trials, information about its safety on real-life data is limited.Objectives:To compare safety in terms of adverse events of biosimilar etanercept (BEt) to originator etanercept (OEt) using information from the Mexican Adverse Events Registry (BIOBADAMEX).Methods:BIOBADAMEX is a Mexican cohort that collects the information of biologic and biosimilar drugs used in patients with rheumatic diseases in public and private practice since 2016. Patients enrolled are followed- up yearly. For this study we included patients from 18 to 65 years old who were or are currently in treatment with OEt or BEt and analyzed the frequency of adverse events (AE), the severity and the outcome of these. Baseline time was considered at enrolment to the cohort. We used logistic regression to analyze univariable and multivariable associations.Results:At the time of analysis a total of 119 have received treatment with OEt, 38 with BEt. Mean follow up time was 1.35 years. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was the most common disease for all the groups followed by ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Both groups had similar baseline characteristics (Table 1). AE occurred in 4 (3.4%) patients with OEt and in 6 (15.8%) with BEt (OR 0.2, 95% CI 0.04-0.7). The most frequent AE in OEt group was allergic reaction, (2(2.5%) of patients), and infections were the most frequent AE in BEt group (2 (5.3%)). Of patients with BEt, 2(5.3%) had severe AE compared to none in the OEt (p=0.012). In the multivariable adjusted analysis comparing development of AE vs no AE including BEt, comorbidities and glucocorticoids, we found that use of BEt (OR 4.6, 95%CI 1.1-19.5) and presence of comorbidities (OR 4.6, 95%CI 1.01-20.5), were associated with AE. Abstract
Background:Most autoimmune diseases are more prevalent in women. Symptom severity, disease progression, response to therapy and overall survival differ between males and females with rheumatic diseases.Objectives:To identify the characteristics of autoimmune diseases presentation and treatment between male and female population using information from the Mexican Adverse Events Registry (BIOBADAMEX).Methods:BIOBADAMEX is a Mexican ongoing cohort that collects the information of patients using biologic and biosimilar drugs since 2016. For this study we included all patients enrolled in the registry and compared baseline clinical and disease characteristics, treatment and presence of adverse events between genders. We used logistic regression to analyze univariable associations.Results:A total of 655 participants were analysed, of which 82% were female (Table 1). We found women were older with a median of 53 years compared to 46 years in men (OR 1.02, CI 1.0-1.1). Smoking was higher in men (16%) compared to women (5%), (OR 0.3, CI 0.2-0.6). Women had longer disease duration, 9 years compared to 7 years in men (OR 1, CI 1.0-1.1). Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was more prevalent in women (OR 2.7, CI 1-6.9), while ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) were more prevalent in men (OR 0.2, CI 0.1-0.4, and OR 0.3, CI 0.1-0.9 respectively). Women had more comorbidities than men (OR 1.8, CI 1.1-2.8) and used steroids more frequently (OR 1.7, CI 1.1-2.7). Abstract
We describe an ancestry-informative autosomal SNP multiplex designed to be a small-scale, flexible panel that can complement uniparental markers in assessing the American variability (i.e. pre-Colombian) found in contemporary indigenous American populations. This study centered on choosing SNPs with the specific characteristics of: 1) extreme allele frequency differences between indigenous Americans and the African, European and East Asian population groups that contribute to present-day population variation in the Americas; 2) high informativeness-for-assignment In values; and 3) well-spaced genomic distribution and chromosomal separation from existing small-scale forensic ancestry marker sets. The resulting capillary electrophoresis SNaPshot single base extension test was named: PIMA (Population Informative Multiplex for the Americas), comprising 26 autosomal SNPs, a single X-chromosome SNP plus the amelogenin sex marker adapted for SNaPshot. PIMA complements the established 34plex forensic ancestry panel to provide a powerful and simple tool for the analysis of American populations, including those with admixed histories, commonly encountered in America. Comparing the results obtained with the combined marker panels of PIMA and 34plex to SNP data from a much larger ancestry panel allowed us to gauge their relative efficiency. PIMA+34plex gives equivalent power to the 314-SNP 'LACE' genomic ancestry control panel, while requiring a much smaller genotyping effort. The ancestry profiles and genetic structure of 22 populations spread across the American continent were estimated using PIMA+34plex data, and those estimates were contrasted with information provided by uniparental markers (mtDNA and Y-chromosome loci) for a small set of admixed individuals from Venezuela. Our results indicate that an American genetic component is efficiently detected in contemporary American populations using a small set of ancestry informative SNPs, and these co-ancestry estimates are consistent with the known history and demography of the Americas. The small scale and high population differentiation power of PIMA, particularly when combined with 34plex, provides a practical and powerful tool for genetic studies of American populations as well as forensic DNA analyses.

Abstract
The presence of Lutzomyia (Tricholateralis) cruciata (Coquillett 1907) species complex has been suggested by morphological analysis of eggs and genetic studies of females. The present work aimed to compare the diversity in morphology of four populations of Lu. cruciata from the Coast of Chiapas, Mexico, using traditional (TM) and geometric (GM) methods. Several morphological characteristics that were analyzed provided consistency to differentiate at least, three populations of Lu. cruciata. Both methods were effective to detect morphological differences associated with the geographical sites of capture. In both sexes, three and four groups were detected by TM and GM, respectively. These results suggest marked morphological differences in both sexes of Lu. cruciata that make these methods potentially useful to identify the geographical origin of any specimen of this species captured in the study region. Although the results produced by both methods are coincident, geometric morphometrics turned out to be most advantageous with respect to traditional morphometry, since the latter requires more time and effort. The consistency of our results shows that the variability of environmental conditions on the coast of Chiapas determines a high degree of phenotypic plasticity in Lu. cruciata, with the possibility of prezygotic isolation and the formation of species complex.

Abstract
Chromoblastomycosis is defined as a chronic cutaneous and subcutaneous fungal infection caused by melanized or brown-pigmented fungi. A 63-year-old man farmer showed on external and internal part of the right arm, a well-delimited verrucous and hyperkeratotic plaque, with atrophic and cicatricial areas. Direct examination of skin scrapings samples showed the presence of muriform cells, a classic feature of chromoblastomycosis. Fungal isolation was performed in Sabouraud dextrose agar, and dark olivaceous colonies were isolated. Skin biopsy samples were obtained for histopathological and molecular diagnosis. DNA extracted from both, paraffin-embedded skin biopsy samples and fungal colonies, was used for molecular identification by 18S-ITS1-5.8S-ITS2-28S rRNA amplification and sequencing. Fonsecaea pedrosoi was identified from paraffin-embedded skin samples and fungal colonies. A combined therapy with terbinafine and itraconazole, plus cryotherapy was applied with an important improvement. Herein, we report an impressive case of chromoblastomycosis due to Fonsecaea pedrosoi with a successful outcome.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess endothelial barrier function, morphological appearance and corneal thickness three months after cataract surgery in order to evaluate intraoperative endothelial damage. METHODS Endothelial permeability was examined by fluorophotometry, and contact specular microscopy and corneal pachymetry measurements were made in 40 patients (40 eyes) with senile, non-complicated cataracts one month before and three months after cataract surgery. Twenty eyes underwent uneventful phacoemulsification (Group 1) and 20 uneventful extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) with continuous curvilinear capsulotomy (Group 2). Results were analyzed using the two-tailed Student's t test, analysis of variance, and multifactorial and regression analysis. RESULTS There was a significant postoperative increase in endothelial permeability in both groups (p < 0.001), but no real differences between the postoperative values (p = 0.07). Mean cell loss was 15.2% in ECCE and 18.3% in phacoemulsification (p = 0.4). There was a significant linear correlation between ultrasound time, cell loss and functional damage. Postoperative pachymetric measurements were not significant. CONCLUSIONS Endothelial response showed no differences between the surgical techniques. Endothelial barrier function remained disturbed in spite of the apparent morphological stabilization. Corneal pachymetry is not useful for assessing postoperative endothelial changes.

Abstract
Simultaneous and individual enumeration of Salmonella, Shigella and Listeria monocytogenes was compared on inoculated Roma tomatoes and Serrano peppers using an Most Probable Number (MPN) technique. Samples consisting of tomatoes (4 units) or peppers (8 units) were individually inoculated with a cocktail of three strains of Salmonella, Shigella or L. monocytogenes, or by simultaneous inoculation of three strains of each pathogen, at low (1.2-1.7 log CFU/sample) and high (2.2-2.7 log CFU/sample) inocula. Samples were analyzed by an MPN technique using universal pre-enrichment (UP) broth at 35 °C for 24 ± 2 h. The UP tubes from each MPN series were transferred to enrichment and plating media following adequate conventional methods for isolating each pathogen. Data were analyzed using multifactorial analysis of variance (p < 0.05) and LSD multiple rang test. There were differences (p < 0.05) in recovery of simultaneous and individual bacteria inoculated (individual > simultaneous), type of bacteria (Salmonella > Shigella and L. monocytogenes), type of sample (UP broth > pepper and tomato), and inoculum level (high > low). The MPN technique was effective for Salmonella on both commodities. Shigella counts were higher on tomatoes compared to peppers, (p < 0.05), and for L. monocytogenes on peppers (p < 0.05).

Abstract
Epinephelus morio is a large carnivorous species of the Caribbean Sea under reproduction in captivity and nutritional physiology. A diet with raw cornstarch (RCS) was compared to a basal diet without starch (basal) to measure plasma glucose, liver glycogen, and intermediary metabolism. Glucose level did not change (p > 0.05) whereas liver glycogen was significantly higher in fish fed the RCS diet (137.2 ± 14.5 mg g-1) than in fish fed the basal diet (87.4 ± 14.5 mg g-1). Oral glucose administration (170 mg glucose per 100 g body weight) yielded a slight change; two peaks of plasma glucose were recorded with basal (5.6 mM L-1) 2 h after oral administration and at 12 h (6.4 mM L-1). After 24 h, with 1.7 mM L-1, fish returned to initial stage (2.4 mM L-1). RCS diet produced the highest level (6.3 mM L-1) 2 h after oral administration; lowest level observed at 24 h after oral administration (1.0 mM L-1). A significant effect was detected with the presence or absence of dietary carbohydrates (CBH) on hepatic fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase and pyruvate kinase activity. Grouper used two strategies to maintain glucose homeostasis: CBH present in the diet oriented towards gluconeogenesis, whereas no dietary CBH enhanced glycolytic route to liberate glucose and increase liver glycogen.

This paper presents an enhanced Extended State Observer (ESO)-based control strategy to deal with the disturbance attenuation problem for a class of non integral-chain systems subject to non-linear mismatched uncertainties and external disturbances. The proposed control strategy does not assume the integral-chain form and it is formed by a state-feedback plus a dynamic disturbance compensation term, which is designed to reject the disturbance effect in the system output. From a theoretical point of view, the proposed strategy is reduced to the conventional ESO when the integral chain form and the matched condition hold. In this sense, this paper is presented as an extension of the ESO principles to cover a wider class of systems. The theoretical results show that the internal zero-dynamics plays an important role in ESO-based control design. Also, the closed-loop stability is analyzed and some numerical simulations show the effectiveness of the proposal in comparison with previous ESO-based techniques.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare visual field progression after trabeculectomy in eyes showing a postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) less than or equal to 16 mmHg and eyes with an IOP of 17 to 21 mmHg. METHODS A retrospective cohort study design was used. A total of 101 eyes of 101 consecutive patients undergoing trabeculectomy for primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) with a postoperative IOP less than or equal to 21 mmHg were divided into two groups: Group 1 included eyes showing a postoperative IOP less than or equal to 16 mmHg at all visits and Group 2 included eyes with a postoperative IOP between 17 and 21 mmHg. In turn, each of these groups was divided into two subgroups according to whether treatment was required for IOP control. Glaucomatous visual field control during follow-up was compared between the subject groups. RESULTS Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed glaucomatous visual field control in 98.53% of the eyes in Group 1 and 89.06% of those in Group 2 at 5 years, the difference between the groups being significant. CONCLUSIONS Glaucomatous disease progression is less frequent when IOP is less than or equal to 16 mmHg in all the follow-up visits after trabeculectomy. The results indicate a definite benefit of low IOP in visual field control.

Abstract
Early reports accounted for two main genotypes of Piscirickettsia salmonis, a fish pathogen and causative agent of piscirickettsiosis, placing the single isolate EM-90 apart from the prototypic LF-89 and related isolates. In this study, we provide evidence that, contrary to what has been supposed, the EM-90-like isolates are highly prevalent and disseminated across Chilean marine farms. Molecular analysis of 507 P. salmonis field isolates derived from main rearing areas, diverse hosts and collected over 6 years, revealed that nearly 50% of the entire collection were indeed typed as EM-90-like. Interestingly, these isolates showed a marked host preference, being recovered exclusively from Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) samples. Although both strains produce undistinguishable pathological outcomes, differences regarding growth kinetics and susceptibility to the antibiotics and bactericidal action of serum could be identified. In sum, our results allow to conclude that the EM-90-like isolates represent an epidemiologically relevant group in the current situation of piscirickettsiosis. Based on the consistency between genotype and phenotype exhibited by this strain, we point out the need for genotypic studies that may be as important for the Chilean salmon industry as the continuous surveillance of antimicrobial susceptibility patterns.

Abstract
Wastewater treatment selection is a complex task usually addressed by applying separate tools for the correct assessment of multi-criteria evaluation. Novedar_EDSS integrates technical, environmental, economic and social assessment capabilities in one single platform. The aim of this work is to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of this environmental decision support system (EDSS). For that purpose, 4 case studies of real projects were selected to validate the results in the EDSS by comparing them with those from the study of alternatives performed by the decision makers. Moreover, 1 conceptual case study was applied to support the selection of the most properly strategy for plant retrofitting. Results have demonstrated that the EDSS provides key aspects when deciding the retrofitting process to apply and, when compared to real projects, it recommends analogue treatments as those applied in the projects, ranking them in the same order. Therefore, results in the validation process performed show that this tool provides a reliable basis to support decision makers to select properly treatment alternatives in wastewater treatment plant pre-design.

Abstract
Lutzomyia cruciata (Coquillet) is a vector of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Mexico and Central America. However, several aspects of its ecology and behavior are unknown, including whether a male pheromone partially mediates the sexual behavior of this sand fly. In this study, we evaluated the behavioral response of females to male abdominal extracts in a Y-tube olfactometer. The volatile compounds from male abdominal extracts were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and compared with those of female abdominal extracts. Finally, the disseminating structures of the putative sex pheromone were examined by scanning electron microscopy in the male abdomen. Females were more attracted to male abdominal extract than to the hexane control, suggesting the presence of male-produced sex pheromone. The male abdominal extracts were characterized by the presence of 12 sesquiterpene compounds. The major component, an unknown sesquiterpene with an abundance of 60%, had a mass spectrum with molecular ion of m/z 262. In contrast, the abdominal female extracts contained saturated fatty acids. Finally, we detected the presence of small "papules" with a mammiform morphology distributed on the abdominal surface of tergites IV-VII of male Lu. cruciata These structures are not present in females. We conclude that Lu. cruciata males likely produce a pheromone involved in attracting or courting females.

Abstract
Polymyxin Ceftazidime Oxford Medium (PCOM), a novel selective and differential plating medium for Listeria monocytogenes was compared with Modified Oxford Agar (MOX) for efficacy to isolate L. monocytogenes and other Listeria spp. naturally present in non-pasteurized Mexican-style cheese (n = 50), non-pasteurized fresh squeezed orange juice (n = 50), raw beef chunks (n = 36), and fresh cabbage (n = 125). Samples were collected from retail markets and farms in Mexico and tested following the US Department of Agriculture enrichment technique. Listeria spp. were isolated from 23.4% of analyzed samples, and from those, 75.0% corresponded to raw beef chunks, 38.0% to non-pasteurized Mexican-style cheese, and 30.0% to fresh squeezed orange juice. No Listeria spp. were isolated from fresh cabbage samples. L. monocytogenes was recovered from 15.3% of food samples analyzed. Non-pasteurized Mexican-style cheese showed the highest proportion of L. monocytogenes positive samples (36.0%), followed by orange juice (26.0%) and raw beef (25.0%). The frequency of isolation of Listeria spp. and L. monocytogenes was not different (P > 0.05) between PCOM and MOX. The advantages of using PCOM when comparing to MOX, include the easier way to identify Listeria species, the lower cost per plate and the availability of its ingredients for Latin-American countries.

Abstract
Lutzomyia cruciata Coquillet (Diptera: Psychodidae: Phlebotominae) is a potential vector of Leishmania sp.; its geographical distribution in Mexico is widespread, but its life history is unknown. The present study gives relevant information on the life cycle, morphology, survival and reproduction of Lu. cruciata observed over successive generations under laboratory conditions. Seven successive generations were produced. A total of 975 adults were obtained in a sexual proportion of 1.1 : 1 (female : male). Each Lu. cruciata female produced 20.7 eggs and 1.9 adults, approximately, with a proportion of eggs per female of 2.7% (first generation) and 21.3% (second generation). The life cycle of Lu. cruciata, from egg to adult, occurred in 52.7 ± 0.52 days. The largest percentage of mortality occurred during the egg stage (48.5%) and the first larval instar (26.5%), whereas in the pupal stage mortality was the lowest (9.1%). Lutzomyia cruciata exhibits sexual dimorphism based on size, which is exhibited as of the second larval instar, males being smaller than females. The maximum survival of females and males was 10 and 15 days, respectively. An overview of the immature stages of the species made with an electronic scanning microscope is included. This paper contributes basic information on aspects of Lu. cruciata that were previously unknown related to its life history.

Abstract
Between 2008 and 2011, twelve metals from 384 coastal waters samples from San Jorge Bay (Antofagasta, northern Chile) were collected and analyzed. The goal was to evaluate the quality of the bay's water bodies according to the current Chilean Quality Guideline and to establish background levels for these metals. The result suggests that the coastal waters of San Jorge Bay are of very good quality suitable for recreational activities involving human body contact. The natural background thresholds established for this bay were significantly lower than primary and secondary water quality guidelines. The distribution of Cu, Zn and Pb, along the bay's coastline provides evidence of the effects of industrial activity. Both situations suggest that the threshold indicated in the environmental guidelines of the Chilean legislation may be overestimated and do not represent pollution-free environments.

Abstract
FYDATA is a multi-centre, retrospective, 1-year, observational study (inclusion criteria: written informed consent to review clinical charts; patients ≥12 years old; partial-onset seizure [POS] diagnosis; perampanel treatment according to clinical practice as add-on therapy; patients with ≥1 POS in year prior to starting perampanel). The source of data was patient clinical records collected by physicians. An interim analysis was performed at 3 months in 111 patients (mean age: 37.8 years; mean epilepsy duration: 24 years). Mean seizure number/month at onset was 19.3. At baseline, patients had tried a mean of 8.3 antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) and half were taking ≥3 concomitant AEDs. 31% of patients had a comorbid psychiatric condition. At 3 months, with a mean perampanel dose of 5.4 mg, 9% of patients were seizure-free and 44% were responders (≥50% reduction in seizure number). Adverse events were reported by 41.4% of patients; most frequent were irritability (13.5%), somnolence (10.8%) and dizziness (9.9%). Irritability and aggressiveness were more frequent if patients had a comorbid psychiatric condition – personality disorder/hyperactivity. Preliminary results at 3 months in refractory POS patients receiving adjunctive perampanel in a real-life setting showed a promising response. Study sponsors: Eisai Inc. Abstract
Background To evaluate the immunological situation against hepatitis B virus (HBV) of a cohort of dentistry students, to analyze the behavior of the levels of hepatitis B surface antigen (anti-HBs) after the administration of one or three vaccine doses, and to determine the influence of age and sex on the immune response. Material and Methods This retrospective cohort study included students attending the School of Dentistry of the institution where the study was performed from 2005 to 2012 who had completed the public health vaccination calendar for HBV at the age of 12-13. Data on age, sex, basal anti-HBs levels, post-vaccination anti-HBs results and final anti-HBs levels were collected. Comparisons of the basal and final levels, as well as associations regarding age and sex, were performed by means of the Student t and Chi-square tests. Results Of the 359 students, 97 (27.02%) had basal antibody concentrations <10 mIU/ml, whereas in 262 the levels of anti-HBs were ≥10 mIU/ml (72.98%). Of the 288 participating students who completed the School´s protocol for immunization, 287 (99.65%) attained a level of protection ≥10 mIU/ml. Globally, there were statistically significant differences between the basal antibody levels and those achieved after administration of the vaccine and booster, but no association with age or sex was observed. Conclusions About 70% of dental students vaccinated as preadolescents had serologic evidence of protection against HBV. Administering a booster is associated with the presence of an excellent immune memory. There is clearly a need to reinforce control of the antibody levels in groups at risk, such as Dentistry students. Key words:Dental students, hepatitis B virus, serologic control.

Abstract
Salmonella is a foodborne pathogen that commonly inhabits the gastrointestinal tract of a healthy feedlot cattle and can be transferred to the carcass surface during hide removal and evisceration procedures. Numerous investigations on Salmonella prevalence throughout different stages of the beef chain have been conducted. In contrast, limited studies are available on quantitative determinations of Salmonella at different steps in raw meat production. Quantitative data, particularly for pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella are important for quantitative risk assessment. Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli populations were enumerated on beef carcass samples collected at abattoirs and also in beef chunks and ground beef samples collected from butcher's shops at retail in Jalisco State, Mexico. Sponge samples from beef carcass sides (n=142) were collected immediately after final water wash and before chilling at three non-federally inspected abattoirs following USDA-FSIS sampling protocols. Beef chunks (n=84) and ground beef (n=65) samples were obtained from 86 butcher's shops. Salmonella enumeration was conducted by the Most Probable Number method and E. coli counts were determined using Petrifilm plates. Salmonella was isolated from 18% of beef carcasses, 39% of beef chunks and 71% of ground beef samples. Salmonella mean counts were 1.3±0.9 Log MPN/300 cm(2) on beef carcasses, 1.9±0.9 and 2.3±1.1 Log MPN/25 g in beef chunks and ground beef samples, respectively. Twenty-six Salmonella serotypes and 11 serogroups were identified among 432 isolates recovered. Salmonella typhimurium (14%), Salmonella sinstorf (12%) and S. Group E1 monophasic (10%) were the most frequent. Escherichia coli was present on 97, 84 and 100% of beef carcasses, beef chunks and ground beef samples, respectively. Escherichia coli mean counts were 3.2±0.7 Log CFU/300 cm(2), 3.9±1.1 and 4.5±1.2 Log CFU/25 g on beef carcasses, beef chunks and ground beef, respectively. Salmonella prevalence and mean counts found in raw beef were higher than previously reported in studies from other countries. The data collected in this study show a trend in the prevalence of Salmonella to be higher as meat processing is extended at retail. This, together with the diversity of serotypes found, indicates that raw meat is exposed to multiple contamination sources during slaughter and retail processing and highlights the necessity to implement Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures for those establishments. Finally, this study provides quantitative information for future risk assessments associated with the risk of human salmonellosis.

Abstract
Methylphenidate (MPH) is widely used as a "nootropic" agent and in the treatment of disorders of attention, and has been shown to modulate synaptic plasticity in vitro. Here we present in vivo evidence that this MPH-induced metaplasticity can last long after the end of treatment. MPH (0, 0.2, 1 and 5mg/kg) was administered daily to male rats from postnatal day 42 for 15 days. The animals were tested daily in a radial maze. Long-term potentiation (LTP), a marker of neural plasticity, was induced in vivo in the prefrontal cortex after 2-3h, 15-18 days or 5 months without treatment. The behavioral performance of the 1mg/kg group improved, while that of animals that had received 5mg/kg deteriorated. In the 1 and 5mg/kg groups LTP induced 2-3h after the last MPH treatment was twice as large as in the controls. Further, 15-18 days after the last MPH administration, in groups receiving 1 and 5mg/kg, LTP was about fourfold higher than in controls. However, 5 months later, LTP in the 1mg/kg group was similar to controls and in the 5mg/kg group LTP could not be induced at all. No significant changes of LTP were seen in the low-dose group of animals (0.2mg/kg). Thus, firstly, doses of MPH that improve learning coincide approximately with those that augment LTP. Secondly, MPH-induced increases in LTP can last for several weeks, but these may disappear over longer periods or deteriorate at high doses.
