Ionizable Polymeric Micelles with Phenylalanine Moieties Enhance Intracellular Delivery of Self-Replicating RNA for Long-Lasting Protein Expression In Vivo

mRNA-based therapeutics are revolutionizing the landscape of medical interventions. However, the short half-life of mRNA and transient protein expression often limits its therapeutic potential, demanding high treatment doses or repeated administrations. Self-replicating RNA (RepRNA)-based treatments could offer enhanced protein production and reduce the required dosage. Here, we developed polymeric micelles based on flexible poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(glycerol) (PEG-PG) block copolymers modified with phenylalanine (Phe) moieties via biodegradable ester bonds for the efficient delivery of RepRNA. These polymers successfully encapsulated RepRNA into sub-100 nm micelles assisted by the hydrophobicity of the Phe moieties and their ability to π-π stack with the bases in RepRNA. The micelles made from Phe-modified PEG-PG (PEG-PG(Phe)) effectively maintained the integrity of the loaded RepRNA in RNase-rich serum conditions. Once taken up by cells, the micelles triggered a pH-responsive membrane disruption, promoted by the strong protonation of the amino groups at endosomal pH, thereby delivering the RepRNA to the cytosol. The system induced strong protein expression in vitro and outperformed commercial transfecting reagents in vivo, where it resulted in enhanced and long-lasting protein expression.

Porous Host-Guest MOF-Semiconductor Hybrid with Multisites Heterojunctions and Modulable Electronic Band for Selective Photocatalytic CO2 Conversion and H2 Evolution

Optimizing catalysts for competitive photocatalytic reactions demand individually tailored band structure as well as intertwined interactions of light absorption, reaction activity, mass, and charge transport.  Here, a nanoparticulate host-guest structure is rationally designed that can exclusively fulfil and ideally control the aforestated uncompromising requisites for catalytic reactions. The all-inclusive model catalyst consists of porous Co3 O4 host and Znx Cd1- x S guest with controllable physicochemical properties enabled by self-assembled hybrid structure and continuously amenable band gap. The effective porous topology nanoassembly, both at the exterior and the interior pores of a porous metal-organic framework (MOF), maximizes spatially immobilized semiconductor nanoparticles toward high utilization of particulate heterojunctions for vital charge and reactant transfer. In conjunction, the zinc constituent band engineering is found to regulate the light/molecules absorption, band structure, and specific reaction intermediates energy to attain high photocatalytic CO2 reduction selectivity. The optimal catalyst exhibits a H2 -generation rate up to 6720 µmol g-1 h-1 and a CO production rate of 19.3 µmol g-1 h-1 . These findings provide insight into the design of discrete host-guest MOF-semiconductor hybrid system with readily modulated band structures and well-constructed heterojunctions for selective solar-to-chemical conversion.

Azimuthal Correlations within Exclusive Dijets with Large Momentum Transfer in Photon-Lead Collisions

The structure of nucleons is multidimensional and depends on the transverse momenta, spatial geometry, and polarization of the constituent partons. Such a structure can be studied using high-energy photons produced in ultraperipheral heavy-ion collisions. The first measurement of the azimuthal angular correlations of exclusively produced events with two jets in photon-lead interactions at large momentum transfer is presented, a process that is considered to be sensitive to the underlying nuclear gluon polarization. This study uses a data sample of ultraperipheral lead-lead collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.38  nb^{-1}, collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The measured second harmonic of the correlation between the sum and difference of the two jet transverse momentum vectors is found to be positive, and rising, as the dijet transverse momentum increases. A well-tuned model that has been successful at describing a wide range of proton scattering data from the HERA experiments fails to describe the observed correlations, suggesting the presence of gluon polarization effects.

Measurement of the mass dependence of the transverse momentum of lepton pairs in Drell-Yan production in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV

The double differential cross sections of the Drell-Yan lepton pair (ℓ + ℓ - , dielectron or dimuon) production are measured as functions of the invariant mass m ℓ ℓ , transverse momentum p T ( ℓ ℓ ) , and φ η ∗ . The φ η ∗ observable, derived from angular measurements of the leptons and highly correlated with p T ( ℓ ℓ ) , is used to probe the low-p T ( ℓ ℓ ) region in a complementary way. Dilepton masses up to 1Te V are investigated. Additionally, a measurement is performed requiring at least one jet in the final state. To benefit from partial cancellation of the systematic uncertainty, the ratios of the differential cross sections for various m ℓ ℓ ranges to those in the Z mass peak interval are presented. The collected data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.3fb - 1 of proton-proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13Te V . Measurements are compared with predictions based on perturbative quantum chromodynamics, including soft-gluon resummation.

Prolonged usage of fosaprepitant for prevention of delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting(CINV) in patients receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy

BACKGROUND

Even though chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) can be well controlled in the acute phase, the incidence of delayed CINV remains high. In this study, we intend to investigate whether prolonged use of NK-1 receptor antagonist (RA) in addition to 5-HT3 RA and dexamethasone (DEX) was more effective in preventing delayed CINV.

METHODS

This randomised, open-label, controlled study was designed to compare the efficacy and safety of fosaprepitant 150 mg given on days 1,3 (prolonged group) versus on day 1 (regular group) in patients receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy (HEC). All patients also treated with palonosetron on day 1 and DEX on days 1-3. The primary endpoint was the incidence of delayed nausea and vomiting. The second endpoint was AEs. All the above endpoints were defined according to CTCAE 5.0.

RESULTS

Seventy-seven patients were randomly assigned to prolonged group and seventy-nine to regular group. Prolonged group demonstrated superiority in controlling delayed CINV to regular group, with statistically significant lower incidence of nausea (6.17% vs 12.66%, P = 0.0056), and slightly lower incidence of grade 1 vomiting (1.62% vs 3.80%, P = 0.0953) in the delayed phase. In addition, prolonged use of fosaprepitant was safe. No significant difference was found between the two groups regarding constipation, diarrhea, hiccough, fatigue, palpitation and headache in delayed phase.

CONCLUSIONS

Prolonged use of fosaprepitant can effectively and safely prevent delayed CINV in patients receiving HEC.

EGFR p.V774M/p.L833V compound mutations in lung adenocarcinoma responded well to almonertinib: a case report

Background

There are about 10-15% of uncommon EGFR mutations found in NSCLC patients, and their sensitivity to EGFR TKIs still lack sufficient clinical evidence, especially for rare compound mutations. Almonertinib is the third generation of EGFR-TKI that has demonstrated excellent efficacy in classical mutations, however, effects in rare mutations have also been rarely reported.

Case presentation

In this case report, we present a patient with advanced lung adenocarcinoma with a rare EGFR p.V774M/p.L833V compound mutations, who achieved long-lasting and stable disease control after first-line Almonertinib targeted therapy. This case report could provide more information for therapeutic strategy selecting of NSCLC patients harboring rare EGFR mutations.

Conclusion

We report for the first time the long-lasting and stable disease control with Almonertinib for EGFR p.V774M/p.L833V compound mutations treatment, hoping to provide more clinical case references for the treatment of rare compound mutations.

[Initial Treatment of Aumolertinib in Combination with Bevacizumab for Advanced NSCLC with Primary EGFR T790M Mutation: A Report of Three Cases and Literature Review]

With the development of sequencing technology, the detection rate of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with primary epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) T790M mutation is increasing. However, the first-line treatment for primary EGFR T790M-mutated NSCLC still lacks standard recommendations. Here, we reported three advanced NSCLC cases with EGFR-activating mutation and primary T790M mutation. The patients were initially treated with Aumolertinib combination with Bevacizumab; among which, one case was discontinued Bevacizumab due to bleeding risk after treatment for three months. Treatment was switched to Osimertinib after ten months of treatment. Another case switched to Osimertinib and discontinued Bevacizumab after thirteen months of treatment. The best effect response in all three cases was partial response (PR) after initial treatment. Two cases progressed after first-line treatment and progression-free survival (PFS) was eleven months and seven months respectively. The other one patient had persistent response after treatment, and the treatment duration has reached nineteen months. Two cases had multiple brain metastases before administration and the best response to intracranial lesions was PR. The intracranial PFS was fourteen months and not reached (16+ months), respectively. There were no new adverse events (AEs), and no AEs of grade three or above were reported. In addition, we summarized the research progress of Osimertinib in the treatment of NSCLC with primary EGFR T790M mutation. In conclusion, Aumolertinib combined with Bevacizumab in the treatment of advanced NSCLC with primary EGFR T790M mutation has a high objective response rate (ORR) and control ability of intracranial lesions, which can be used as one of the initial options for first-line advanced NSCLC with primary EGFR T790M mutation.

DNASE1L3 regulation by transcription factor FOXP2 affects the proliferation, migration, invasion and tube formation of lung adenocarcinoma

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is prone to bone metastasis, resulting in poor prognosis. The present study aimed to detect the expression of deoxyribonuclease 1-like 3 (DNASE1L3) and forkhead-box P2 (FOXP2) in LUAD cells to investigate the role of DNASE1L3 in the regulation of proliferation, migration, invasion and tube formation of LUAD cells and how FOXP2 affects DNASE1L3 expression. The expression of DNASE1L3 and FOXP2 in LUAD cells was analyzed by reverse transcription-quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and western blotting. The transfection efficiency of DNASE1L3 overexpression plasmids, FOXP2 overexpression or interference plasmids into A549 cells was also confirmed by RT-qPCR and western blotting. The viability, proliferation, migration and invasion and tube formation of LUAD cells following transfection was in turn detected by MTT, EdU staining, wound healing, Transwell and tube formation assay. The expression of proteins associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transformation and tube formation was detected by western blotting. Binding between DNASE1L3 and FOXP2 was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay and chromatin immunoprecipitation. Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis database predicted that underexpression of DNASE1L3 in LUAD was associated with poor prognosis. DNASE1L3 expression was decreased in LUAD cells and overexpression of DNASE1L3 inhibited the proliferation, migration, invasion and tube formation of LUAD cells. Transcription factor FOXP2 positively regulated DNASE1L3 transcription in LUAD cells. FOXP2 was also underexpressed in LUAD cells and downregulation of FOXP2 promoted proliferation, migration, invasion and tube formation of LUAD cells, which was reversed by overexpression of DNASE1L3. In conclusion, DNASE1L3 was positively regulated by transcription factor FOXP2 and overexpression inhibited proliferation, migration, invasion and tube formation of LUAD cells.

Next-generation sequencing of homologous recombination genes could predict efficacy of platinum-based chemotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer

Background

With the widespread use of next-generation sequencing (NGS) in clinical practice, an increasing number of biomarkers that predict a response to anti-tumor therapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has been identified. However, validated biomarkers that can be used to detect a response to platinum-based chemotherapy remain unavailable. Several studies have suggested that homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) may occur in response to platinum-based chemotherapy in ovarian cancer and breast cancer. However, currently there is a lack of proven and reliable HRD markers that can be used to screen for patients who may benefit from platinum-based chemotherapy, especially in NSCLC.

Methods

NGS was used to screen for gene mutations, including homologous recombination (HR) genes and common driver gene mutations in NSCLC. Cox regression analysis was performed to identify potential clinicopathological or gene mutation factors associated with survival in patients receiving platinum-based chemotherapy, while Kaplan-Meier analysis with the log-rank test was performed to assess the effect of HR gene mutations on progression-free survival (PFS).

Results

In a retrospective cohort of 129 patients with advanced NSCLC, 54 who received platinum-based chemotherapy with or without anti-angiogenic therapy were included in the analysis. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analyses showed that HR gene mutations were associated with platinum-based chemotherapy sensitivity. Efficacy results indicated that the objective response rates (ORR) for patients with BRCA1/2 mutations and BRCA1/2 wild type were 75% and 30.4% (p=0.041), while the median PFS was 7.5 and 5.5 months (hazard ratio [HR], 0.52; 95% CI, 0.27-1.00; p=0.084), respectively. The ORRs of patients with HR gene mutations and HR gene wild type were 60% and 23.6% (p=0.01), and the median PFS was 7.5 and 5.2 months (HR, 0.56; 95% CI, 0.32-0.97; p=0.033), respectively.

Conclusions

HR gene mutations show potential as promising biomarkers that may predict sensitivity to platinum-based chemotherapy in advanced and metastatic NSCLC.

Measurements of the associated production of a W boson and a charm quark in proton-proton collisions at s = 8 TeV

Measurements of the associated production of a W boson and a charm ( c ) quark in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV are reported. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb - 1 collected by the CMS detector at the LHC. The W bosons are identified through their leptonic decays to an electron or a muon, and a neutrino. Charm quark jets are selected using distinctive signatures of charm hadron decays. The product of the cross section and branching fraction σ ( pp → W + c + X ) B ( W → ℓ ν ) , where ℓ = e or μ , and the cross section ratio σ ( pp → W + + c ¯ + X ) / σ ( pp → W - + c + X ) are measured in a fiducial volume and differentially as functions of the pseudorapidity and of the transverse momentum of the lepton from the W boson decay. The results are compared with theoretical predictions. The impact of these measurements on the determination of the strange quark distribution is assessed.

Mechanical stretching boosts expansion and regeneration of intestinal organoids through fueling stem cell self-renewal

Intestinal organoids, derived from intestinal stem cell self-organization, recapitulate the tissue structures and behaviors of the intestinal epithelium, which hold great potential for the study of developmental biology, disease modeling, and regenerative medicine. The intestinal epithelium is exposed to dynamic mechanical forces which exert profound effects on gut development. However, the conventional intestinal organoid culture system neglects the key role of mechanical microenvironments but relies solely on biological factors. Here, we show that adding cyclic stretch to intestinal organoid cultures remarkably up-regulates the signature gene expression and proliferation of intestinal stem cells. Furthermore, mechanical stretching stimulates the expansion of SOX9+ progenitors by activating the Wnt/β-Catenin signaling. These data demonstrate that the incorporation of mechanical stretch boosts the stemness of intestinal stem cells, thus benefiting organoid growth. Our findings have provided a way to optimize an organoid generation system through understanding cross-talk between biological and mechanical factors, paving the way for the application of mechanical forces in organoid-based models.

STRN-ALK Fusion in Lung Adenocarcinoma with Brain Metastasis Responded Well to Ensartinib: A Case Report

STRN-ALK fusion is a rare ALK rearrangement identified in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Here, we reported a case of lung adenocarcinomas with brain metastasis, harboring STRN-ALK fusion, responded well to ensartinib. This case report could provide more information for the therapeutic strategy selecting of NSCLC patients harboring STRN-ALK fusion.

Search for Resonances Decaying to Three W Bosons in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV

A search for resonances decaying into a W boson and a radion, where the radion decays into two W bosons, is presented. The data analyzed correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} recorded in proton-proton collisions with the CMS detector at sqrt[s]=13  TeV. One isolated charged lepton is required, together with missing transverse momentum and one or two massive large-radius jets, containing the decay products of either two or one W bosons, respectively. No excess over the background estimation is observed. The results are combined with those from a complementary channel with an all-hadronic final state, described in an accompanying paper. Limits are set on parameters of an extended warped extra-dimensional model. These searches are the first of their kind at the LHC.

Probing Charm Quark Dynamics via Multiparticle Correlations in Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV

Multiparticle azimuthal correlations of prompt D^{0} mesons are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV. For the first time, a four-particle cumulant method is used to extract the second Fourier coefficient of the azimuthal distribution (v_{2}) of D^{0} mesons as a function of event centrality and the D^{0} transverse momentum. The ratios of the four-particle v_{2} values to previously measured two-particle cumulant results provide direct experimental access to event-by-event fluctuations of charm quark azimuthal anisotropies. These ratios are also found to be comparable to those of inclusive charged particles in the event. However, hints of deviations are seen in the most central and peripheral collisions. To investigate the origin of flow fluctuations in the charm sector, these measurements are compared to a model implementing fluctuations of charm quark energy loss via collisional or radiative processes in the quark-gluon plasma. These models cannot quantitatively describe the data over the full transverse momentum and centrality ranges, although the calculations with collisional energy loss provide a better description of the data.

First Search for Exclusive Diphoton Production at High Mass with Tagged Protons in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV

A search for exclusive two-photon production via photon exchange in proton-proton collisions, pp→pγγp with intact protons, is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 9.4  fb^{-1} collected in 2016 using the CMS and TOTEM detectors at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the LHC. Events are selected with a diphoton invariant mass above 350 GeV and with both protons intact in the final state, to reduce backgrounds from strong interactions. The events of interest are those where the invariant mass and rapidity calculated from the momentum losses of the forward-moving protons match the mass and rapidity of the central, two-photon system. No events are found that satisfy this condition. Interpreting this result in an effective dimension-8 extension of the standard model, the first limits are set on the two anomalous four-photon coupling parameters. If the other parameter is constrained to its standard model value, the limits at 95% confidence level are |ζ_{1}|<2.9×10^{-13}  GeV^{-4} and |ζ_{2}|<6.0×10^{-13}  GeV^{-4}.

Abstract 5771: The refined stratification of receptor tyrosine kinase fusions in lung cancer

Background: The overall survival of patients with the actionable receptor tyrosine kinase (TRK) fusions can be significantly prolonged after taking targeted kinase inhibitors. However, the outcomes are variable due to the different fusion types of the same driver gene.

Method: Formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissues from patients with lung cancer between March 2018 and September 2021 were performed by using next generation sequencing (NGS) at Genetronhealth, a laboratory accredited by College of American Pathologists and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments.

Results: In a large cohort of 3768 patients with lung cancer, 348 cases harboring the actionable TKR fusions, including ALK, ROS1, RET, EGFR, MET, BRAF, NTRK1/2/3. TRK fusions can be divided into three types based on the breakpoints, partners and fusion models: single 3’ fusions, nonreciprocal fusions with the intact tyrosine kinase domain (TKD); single 5’ fusions, reciprocal fusions with the incomplete TKD; complex fusions, nonreciprocal/reciprocal fusions or nonreciprocal fusions with different partners. At the gene level, 58% (203 of 348) of TRK fusions were ALK, among which 71% of single 3’ ALK (144 of 203), 3% of single 5’ ALK (6 of 203) and 26% of complex fusions (53 of 203) were included. ROS1 fusions accounted for 14% (50 of 348) of all TRK fusions, and the proportions of single 3’ fusions, single 5’ fusions and complex fusions were 60% (30 of 50), 6% (3 of 50) and 34% (17 of 50), respectively. RET captured 19% (66 of 348) TRK fusions with 70% of single 3’ RET (46 of 66), 5% of single 5’ RET (3 of 66) and 26% of the complex fusions (17 of 66). EGFR owned 3% (9 of 348) with 33% of single 3’ EGFR (3 of 9), 33% of single 5’ EGFR (3 of 9) and 33% of the complex (3 of 9). MET, BRAF and NTRK1/2/3 shared the rest 5% of total fusions without complex type.

Conclusion: Our research shows different types of TRK fusions in Chinese lung cancer patients, which can help guide the precise treatment in clinical.

Search for low-mass dilepton resonances in Higgs boson decays to four-lepton final states in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV

A search for low-mass dilepton resonances in Higgs boson decays is conducted in the four-lepton final state. The decay is assumed to proceed via a pair of beyond the standard model particles, or one such particle and a Z boson. The search uses proton-proton collision data collected with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb - 1 , at a center-of-mass energy s = 13 TeV . No significant deviation from the standard model expectation is observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set on model-independent Higgs boson decay branching fractions. Additionally, limits on dark photon and axion-like particle production, based on two specific models, are reported.

Using Z Boson Events to Study Parton-Medium Interactions in Pb-Pb Collisions

The spectra measurements of charged hadrons produced in the shower of a parton originating in the same hard scattering with a leptonically decaying Z boson are reported in lead-lead nuclei (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV. Both Pb-Pb and pp data sets are recorded by the CMS experiment at the LHC and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7  nb^{-1} and 320  pb^{-1}, respectively. Hadronic collision data with one reconstructed Z boson candidate with the transverse momentum p_{T}>30  GeV/c are analyzed. The Z boson constrains the initial energy and direction of the associated parton. In heavy ion events, azimuthal angular distributions of charged hadrons with respect to the direction of a Z boson are sensitive to modifications of the in-medium parton shower and medium response. compared to reference data from pp interactions, the results for central Pb-Pb collisions indicate a modification of the angular correlations. The measurements of the fragmentation functions and p_{T} spectra of charged particles in Z boson events, which are sensitive to medium modifications of the parton shower longitudinal structure, are also reported. Significant modifications in central Pb-Pb events compared to the pp reference data are also found for these observables.

Search for strongly interacting massive particles generating trackless jets in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV

A search for dark matter in the form of strongly interacting massive particles (SIMPs) using the CMS detector at the LHC is presented. The SIMPs would be produced in pairs that manifest themselves as pairs of jets without tracks. The energy fraction of jets carried by charged particles is used as a key discriminator to suppress efficiently the large multijet background, and the remaining background is estimated directly from data. The search is performed using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 16.1 fb - 1 , collected with the CMS detector in 2016. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected background. For the simplified dark matter model under consideration, SIMPs with masses up to 100 GeV are excluded and further sensitivity is explored towards higher masses.

Transepithelial delivery of insulin conjugated with phospholipid-mimicking polymers via biomembrane fusion-mediated transcellular pathways

Epithelial barriers that seal cell gaps by forming tight junctions to prevent the free permeation of nutrients, electrolytes, and drugs, are essential for maintaining homeostasis in multicellular organisms. The development of nanocarriers that can permeate epithelial tissues without compromising barrier function is key for establishing a safe and efficient drug delivery system (DDS). Previously, we have demonstrated that a water-soluble phospholipid-mimicking random copolymer, poly(2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine₃₀-random-n‑butyl methacrylate₇₀) (PMB30W), enters the cytoplasm of live cells by passive diffusion manners, without damaging the cell membranes. The internalization mechanism was confirmed to be amphiphilicity-induced membrane fusion. In the present study, we demonstrated energy-independent permeation of PMB30W through the model epithelial barriers of Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cell monolayers in vitro. The polymer penetrated epithelial MDCK monolayers via transcellular pathways without breaching the barrier functions. This was confirmed by our unique assay that can monitor the leakage of the proton as the smallest indicator across the epithelial barriers. Moreover, energy-independent transepithelial permeation was achieved when insulin was chemically conjugated with the phospholipid-mimicking nanocarrier. The bioactivity of insulin as a growth factor was found to be maintained even after translocation. These fundamental findings may aid the establishment of transepithelial DDS with advanced drug efficiency and safety. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: A nanocarrier that can freely permeate epithelial tissues without compromising barrier function is key for successful DDS. Existing strategies mainly rely on paracellular transport associated with tight junction breakdown or transcellular transport via transporter recognition-mediated active uptake. These approaches raise concerns about efficiency and safety. In this study, we performed non-endocytic permeation of phospholipid-mimicking polymers through the model epithelial barriers in vitro. The polymer penetrated via transcytotic pathways without breaching the barriers of biomembrane and tight junction. Moreover, transepithelial permeation occurred when insulin was covalently attached to the nanocarrier. The bioactivity of insulin was maintained even after translocation. The biomimetic design of nanocarrier may realize safe and efficient transepithelial DDS.

Evidence for X(3872) in Pb-Pb Collisions and Studies of its Prompt Production at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV

The first evidence for X(3872) production in relativistic heavy ion collisions is reported. The X(3872) production is studied in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV per nucleon pair, using the decay chain X(3872)→J/ψπ^{+}π^{-}→μ^{+}μ^{-}π^{+}π^{-}. The data were recorded with the CMS detector in 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.7  nb^{-1}. The measurement is performed in the rapidity and transverse momentum ranges |y|<1.6 and 15<p_{T}<50  GeV/c. The significance of the inclusive X(3872) signal is 4.2 standard deviations. The prompt X(3872) to ψ2S yield ratio is found to be ρ^{Pb-Pb}=1.08±0.49(stat)±0.52(syst), to be compared with typical values of 0.1 for pp collisions. This result provides a unique experimental input to theoretical models of the X(3872) production mechanism, and of the nature of this exotic state.

Measurements of the Electroweak Diboson Production Cross Sections in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=5.02 TeV Using Leptonic Decays

The first measurements of diboson production cross sections in proton-proton interactions at a center-of-mass energy of 5.02 TeV are reported. They are based on data collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 302  pb^{-1}. Events with two, three, or four charged light leptons (electrons or muons) in the final state are analyzed. The WW, WZ, and ZZ total cross sections are measured as σ_{WW}=37.0_{-5.2}^{+5.5}(stat)_{-2.6}^{+2.7}(syst)  pb, σ_{WZ}=6.4_{-2.1}^{+2.5}(stat)_{-0.3}^{+0.5}(syst)  pb, and σ_{ZZ}=5.3_{-2.1}^{+2.5}(stat)_{-0.4}^{+0.5}(syst)  pb. All measurements are in good agreement with theoretical calculations at combined next-to-next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics and next-to-leading order electroweak accuracy.

Combined searches for the production of supersymmetric top quark partners in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 Te

A combination of searches for top squark pair production using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13 Te at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb - 1 collected by the CMS experiment, is presented. Signatures with at least 2 jets and large missing transverse momentum are categorized into events with 0, 1, or 2 leptons. New results for regions of parameter space where the kinematical properties of top squark pair production and top quark pair production are very similar are presented. Depending on the model, the combined result excludes a top squark mass up to 1325 Ge for a massless neutralino, and a neutralino mass up to 700 Ge for a top squark mass of 1150 Ge . Top squarks with masses from 145 to 295 Ge , for neutralino masses from 0 to 100 Ge , with a mass difference between the top squark and the neutralino in a window of 30 Ge around the mass of the top quark, are excluded for the first time with CMS data. The results of theses searches are also interpreted in an alternative signal model of dark matter production via a spin-0 mediator in association with a top quark pair. Upper limits are set on the cross section for mediator particle masses of up to 420 Ge .

Measurements of angular distance and momentum ratio distributions in three-jet and Z + two-jet final states in pp collisions

Collinear (small-angle) and large-angle, as well as soft and hard radiations are investigated in three-jet and Z  + two-jet events collected in proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The normalized production cross sections are measured as a function of the ratio of transverse momenta of two jets and their angular separation. The measurements in the three-jet and Z  + two-jet events are based on data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.8 fb - 1 . The Z  + two-jet events are reconstructed in the dimuon decay channel of the Z  boson. The three-jet measurement is extended to include s = 13 TeV data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb - 1 . The results are compared to predictions from event generators that include parton showers, multiple parton interactions, and hadronization. The collinear and soft regions are in general well described by parton showers, whereas the regions of large angular separation are often best described by calculations using higher-order matrix elements.

Observation of Forward Neutron Multiplicity Dependence of Dimuon Acoplanarity in Ultraperipheral Pb-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV

The first measurement of the dependence of γγ→μ^{+}μ^{-} production on the multiplicity of neutrons emitted very close to the beam direction in ultraperipheral heavy ion collisions is reported. Data for lead-lead interactions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02  TeV, with an integrated luminosity of approximately 1.5  nb^{-1}, are collected using the CMS detector at the LHC. The azimuthal correlations between the two muons in the invariant mass region 8<m_{μμ}<60  GeV are extracted for events including 0, 1, or at least 2 neutrons detected in the forward pseudorapidity range |η|>8.3. The back-to-back correlation structure from leading-order photon-photon scattering is found to be significantly broader for events with a larger number of emitted neutrons from each nucleus, corresponding to interactions with a smaller impact parameter. This observation provides a data-driven demonstration that the average transverse momentum of photons emitted from relativistic heavy ions has an impact parameter dependence. These results provide new constraints on models of photon-induced interactions in ultraperipheral collisions. They also provide a baseline to search for possible final-state effects on lepton pairs caused by traversing a quark-gluon plasma produced in hadronic heavy ion collisions.

Precision luminosity measurement in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016 at CMS

The measurement of the luminosity recorded by the CMS detector installed at LHC interaction point 5, using proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV in 2015 and 2016, is reported. The absolute luminosity scale is measured for individual bunch crossings using beam-separation scans (the van der Meer method), with a relative precision of 1.3 and 1.0% in 2015 and 2016, respectively. The dominant sources of uncertainty are related to residual differences between the measured beam positions and the ones provided by the operational settings of the LHC magnets, the factorizability of the proton bunch spatial density functions in the coordinates transverse to the beam direction, and the modeling of the effect of electromagnetic interactions among protons in the colliding bunches. When applying the van der Meer calibration to the entire run periods, the integrated luminosities when CMS was fully operational are 2.27 and 36.3 fb - 1 in 2015 and 2016, with a relative precision of 1.6 and 1.2%, respectively. These are among the most precise luminosity measurements at bunched-beam hadron colliders.

Constraints on the Initial State of Pb-Pb Collisions via Measurements of Z-Boson Yields and Azimuthal Anisotropy at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV

The CMS experiment at the LHC has measured the differential cross sections of Z bosons decaying to pairs of leptons, as functions of transverse momentum and rapidity, in lead-lead collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of 5.02  TeV. The measured Z boson elliptic azimuthal anisotropy coefficient is compatible with zero, showing that Z bosons do not experience significant final-state interactions in the medium produced in the collision. Yields of Z bosons are compared to Glauber model predictions and are found to deviate from these expectations in peripheral collisions, indicating the presence of initial collision geometry and centrality selection effects. The precision of the measurement allows, for the first time, for a data-driven determination of the nucleon-nucleon integrated luminosity as a function of lead-lead centrality, thereby eliminating the need for its estimation based on a Glauber model.

Search for charged Higgs bosons produced in vector boson fusion processes and decaying into vector boson pairs in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV

A search for charged Higgs bosons produced in vector boson fusion processes and decaying into vector bosons, using proton-proton collisions ats = 13 TeV at the LHC, is reported. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 137fb - 1 collected with the CMS detector. Events are selected by requiring two or three electrons or muons, moderate missing transverse momentum, and two jets with a large rapidity separation and a large dijet mass. No excess of events with respect to the standard model background predictions is observed. Model independent upper limits at 95% confidence level are reported on the product of the cross section and branching fraction for vector boson fusion production of charged Higgs bosons as a function of mass, from 200 to 3000GeV . The results are interpreted in the context of the Georgi-Machacek model.

Search for a heavy vector resonance decaying to a Z boson and a Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 Te

A search is presented for a heavy vector resonance decaying into a Z boson and the standard model Higgs boson, where the Z boson is identified through its leptonic decays to electrons, muons, or neutrinos, and the Higgs boson is identified through its hadronic decays. The search is performed in a Lorentz-boosted regime and is based on data collected from 2016 to 2018 at the CERN LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb - 1 . Upper limits are derived on the production of a narrow heavy resonanceZ ' , and a mass below 3.5 and 3.7Te is excluded at 95% confidence level in models where the heavy vector boson couples predominantly to fermions and to bosons, respectively. These are the most stringent limits placed on the Heavy Vector TripletZ ' model to date. If the heavy vector boson couples exclusively to standard model bosons, upper limits on the product of the cross section and branching fraction are set between 23 and 0.3fb for aZ ' mass between 0.8 and 4.6Te , respectively. This is the first limit set on a heavy vector boson coupling exclusively to standard model bosons in its production and decay.

MUSiC: a model-unspecific search for new physics in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV

Results of the Model Unspecific Search in CMS (MUSiC), using proton-proton collision data recorded at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb - 1 , are presented. The MUSiC analysis searches for anomalies that could be signatures of physics beyond the standard model. The analysis is based on the comparison of observed data with the standard model prediction, as determined from simulation, in several hundred final states and multiple kinematic distributions. Events containing at least one electron or muon are classified based on their final state topology, and an automated search algorithm surveys the observed data for deviations from the prediction. The sensitivity of the search is validated using multiple methods. No significant deviations from the predictions have been observed. For a wide range of final state topologies, agreement is found between the data and the standard model simulation. This analysis complements dedicated search analyses by significantly expanding the range of final states covered using a model independent approach with the largest data set to date to probe phase space regions beyond the reach of previous general searches.

Defense of COVID-19 by Human Organoids

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), has created an immense menace to public health worldwide, exerting huge effects on global economic and political conditions. Understanding the biology and pathogenesis mechanisms of this novel virus, in large parts, relies on optimal physiological models that allow replication and propagation of SARS-CoV-2. Human organoids, derived from stem cells, are three-dimensional cell cultures that recapitulate the cellular organization, transcriptional and epigenetic signatures of their counterpart organs. Recent studies have indicated their great values as experimental virology platforms, making human organoid an ideal tool for investigating host-pathogen interactions. Here, we summarize research developments for SARS-CoV-2 infection of various human organoids involved in multiple systems, including lung, liver, brain, intestine, kidney and blood vessel organoids. These studies help us reveal the pathogenesis mechanism of COVID-19, and facilitate the development of effective vaccines and drugs as well as other therapeutic regimes.

Abstract 374: NGS based profiling of homologous recombination genes to predict response to platinum-based chemotherapy in NSCLC

Background: In the era of precision medicine, better response of anti-tumor therapies attribute to detection of specific molecular markers. However, up to the present no validated biomarker for platinum-based chemotherapy could be used in clinic. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology has been applied for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) molecular typing for years. Whether analysis of homologous recombination (HR) gene mutations based on NGS results could predict the efficiency of platinum-based therapy in NSCLC is still obscure.

Methods: NGS has been performed for screening homologous recombination (HR) gene mutations, as well as common driver genes in NSCLC, with tumor samples. Advanced or metastatic NSCLC patients receiving platinum-based chemotherapy were included for efficacy analysis.

Results: 129 patients with HR genes information were included for analysis. Among the 129 patients, 55 patients were received platinum-based chemotherapy. The efficiency results showed the objective response rates (ORR) of patients with BRCA1/2 and without BRCA1/2 mutations were 71.4% and 31.3%; and the median progression free survival (PFS) were 7.5 and 5.6 months(p=0.161), respectively. The ORR of patients with and without HR genes mutations were 57.9% and 25.0%; and the median PFS were 8.0 and 5.3 months (p=0.039), respectively.

Conclusions: NGS based profiling of BRCA1/2 and other gene mutations in HR pathways have a promising predictive value for efficacy of platinum-based chemotherapy in advance and metastatic NSCLC.

Abstract 403: The landscape of PD-L1 expression in lung cancer harboring EGFR mutations

Background: Results from previous studies indicated that lung cancer patients harboring EGFR sensitizing mutations may receive unfavorable outcomes from immunotherapy. The present study aims to investigate the landscape of PD-L1 expression in lung cancer harboring EGFR mutations.

Methods: Tissue samples were subjected to NGS in a College of American Pathologists-certified and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-accredited lab for driver oncogene mutations and PD-L1 expression.

Results: A total of 22143 lung cancer patients were selected, including 12278 (55.4%) male and 9865 (44.6%) female with a median age of 63. There are 9560 patients has the EGFR mutation, and the frequency of EGFR mutation is 43.2%. Among the EGFR mutation patients, 1602 patients have been collected tumor tissue, and the PD-L1 expression have been tested by FDA-approved SP263 and 22C3 antibodies. Among all the EGFR mutation cases assessed PD-L1 expression (n=1602), low PD-L1 expression levels (&lt;1%) were more than half proportion with 56.5% (n=905), PD-L1 expression level of 1%-49% accounted for 31.2% (n=905), PD-L1 expression level of 50%-79% accounted for 9.1% (n=146), PD-L1 expression level of 80%-89% accounted for 1.8% (n=29), and PD-L1 expression level higher than 90% accounted for 1.4% (n=22).

Conclusion: Our study supported that NSCLC patients harboring sensitizing oncogenic mutations may potentially benefit from anti-PD-1/L1 especially for those with positive indicators of immunotherapy with strong positive PD-L1 expression.

Measurement of the Wγ Production Cross Section in Proton-Proton Collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV and Constraints on Effective Field Theory Coefficients

A fiducial cross section for Wγ production in proton-proton collisions is measured at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV in 137  fb^{-1} of data collected using the CMS detector at the LHC. The W→eν and μν decay modes are used in a maximum-likelihood fit to the lepton-photon invariant mass distribution to extract the combined cross section. The measured cross section is compared with theoretical expectations at next-to-leading order in quantum chromodynamics. In addition, 95% confidence level intervals are reported for anomalous triple-gauge couplings within the framework of effective field theory.

Observation of a New Excited Beauty Strange Baryon Decaying to Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-}

The Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass spectrum is investigated with an event sample of proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016-2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140  fb^{-1}. The ground state Ξ_{b}^{-} is reconstructed via its decays to J/ψΞ^{-} and J/ψΛK^{-}. A narrow resonance, labeled Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-}, is observed at a Ξ_{b}^{-}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass of 6100.3±0.2(stat)±0.1(syst)±0.6(Ξ_{b}^{-})  MeV, where the last uncertainty reflects the precision of the Ξ_{b}^{-} baryon mass. The upper limit on the Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-} natural width is determined to be 1.9  MeV at 95% confidence level. The low Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-} signal yield observed in data does not allow a measurement of the quantum numbers of the new state. However, following analogies with the established excited Ξ_{c} baryon states, the new Ξ_{b}(6100)^{-} resonance and its decay sequence are consistent with the orbitally excited Ξ_{b}^{-} baryon, with spin and parity quantum numbers J^{P}=3/2^{-}.

Measurements of production cross sections of the Higgs boson in the four-lepton final state in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV

Production cross sections of the Higgs boson are measured in the H → Z Z → 4 ℓ ( ℓ = e , μ ) decay channel. A data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV , collected by the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb - 1 is used. The signal strength modifier μ , defined as the ratio of the Higgs boson production rate in the 4 ℓ channel to the standard model (SM) expectation, is measured to be μ = 0.94 ± 0.07 (stat) - 0.08 + 0.09 (syst) at a fixed value of m H = 125.38 GeV . The signal strength modifiers for the individual Higgs boson production modes are also reported. The inclusive fiducial cross section for the H → 4 ℓ process is measured to be 2 . 84 - 0.22 + 0.23 (stat) - 0.21 + 0.26 (syst) fb , which is compatible with the SM prediction of 2.84 ± 0.15 fb for the same fiducial region. Differential cross sections as a function of the transverse momentum and rapidity of the Higgs boson, the number of associated jets, and the transverse momentum of the leading associated jet are measured. A new set of cross section measurements in mutually exclusive categories targeted to identify production mechanisms and kinematical features of the events is presented. The results are in agreement with the SM predictions.

Measurement of the Higgs boson production rate in association with top quarks in final states with electrons, muons, and hadronically decaying tau leptons at s = 13 TeV

The rate for Higgs ( H ) bosons production in association with either one ( t H ) or two ( t t ¯ H ) top quarks is measured in final states containing multiple electrons, muons, or tau leptons decaying to hadrons and a neutrino, using proton-proton collisions recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the CMS experiment. The analyzed data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 137fb - 1 . The analysis is aimed at events that contain H → W W , H → τ τ , or H → Z Z decays and each of the top quark(s) decays either to lepton+jets or all-jet channels. Sensitivity to signal is maximized by including ten signatures in the analysis, depending on the lepton multiplicity. The separation among t H , t t ¯ H , and the backgrounds is enhanced through machine-learning techniques and matrix-element methods. The measured production rates for the t t ¯ H and t H signals correspond to 0.92 ± 0.19 (stat) - 0.13 + 0.17 (syst) and 5.7 ± 2.7 (stat) ± 3.0 (syst) of their respective standard model (SM) expectations. The corresponding observed (expected) significance amounts to 4.7 (5.2) standard deviations for t t ¯ H , and to 1.4 (0.3) for t H production. Assuming that the Higgs boson coupling to the tau lepton is equal in strength to its expectation in the SM, the coupling y t of the Higgs boson to the top quark divided by its SM expectation,κ t = y t / y t SM , is constrained to be within - 0.9 < κ t < - 0.7 or 0.7 < κ t < 1.1 , at 95% confidence level. This result is the most sensitive measurement of the t t ¯ H production rate to date.

Development and validation of HERWIG 7 tunes from CMS underlying-event measurements

This paper presents new sets of parameters ("tunes") for the underlying-event model of the H E R W I G 7 event generator. These parameters control the description of multiple-parton interactions (MPI) and colour reconnection in H E R W I G 7 , and are obtained from a fit to minimum-bias data collected by the CMS experiment at s = 0.9 , 7, and 13 Te . The tunes are based on the NNPDF 3.1 next-to-next-to-leading-order parton distribution function (PDF) set for the parton shower, and either a leading-order or next-to-next-to-leading-order PDF set for the simulation of MPI and the beam remnants. Predictions utilizing the tunes are produced for event shape observables in electron-positron collisions, and for minimum-bias, inclusive jet, top quark pair, and Z and W boson events in proton-proton collisions, and are compared with data. Each of the new tunes describes the data at a reasonable level, and the tunes using a leading-order PDF for the simulation of MPI provide the best description of the data.

Measurements of p p → Z Z production cross sections and constraints on anomalous triple gauge couplings at s = 13 TeV

The production of Z boson pairs in proton-proton ( p p ) collisions, p p → ( Z / γ ∗ ) ( Z / γ ∗ ) → 2 ℓ 2 ℓ ' , where ℓ , ℓ ' = e or μ , is studied at a center-of-mass energy of 13TeV with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 137fb - 1 , collected during 2016-2018. The Z Z production cross section,σ tot ( p p → Z Z ) = 17.4 ± 0.3 (stat) ± 0.5 (syst) ± 0.4 (theo) ± 0.3 (lumi) pb , measured for events with two pairs of opposite-sign, same-flavor leptons produced in the mass region 60 < m ℓ + ℓ - < 120 GeV is consistent with standard model predictions. Differential cross sections are also measured and agree with theoretical predictions. The invariant mass distribution of the four-lepton system is used to set limits on anomalous Z Z Z and Z Z γ couplings.

Safety and efficacy of administering reduced doses of pegylated recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factors in patients treated with cisplatin and etoposide for small cell carcinoma: A retrospective study

BACKGROUND

The aim of this study was to discuss the safety and efficacy of administering reduced doses (3 mg) of pegylated recombinant human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (PEG-rhG-CSF) at approximately 24 h or up to three days following treatment with etoposide and cisplatin (EP).

METHODS

A total of 104 cycles from 31 patients were divided into a PEG-rhG-CSF prophylaxis group (PP-Group) and a control group (No-PP-Group). The PP-Group received a reduced dose of 3 mg of PEG-rhG-CSF within a minimum of 15 h and a maximum of 72 h following EP chemotherapy, while the rest did not receive any G-CSF prophylaxis (No-PP-Group). For both groups, complete blood counts, incidence of febrile neutropenia (FN), grade III or IV neutropenia, and the use of antibiotics to treat neutropenia were recorded.

RESULTS

There was statistically no significant difference in the incidence of FN (0% vs. 1.4%, p = 1), antibiotic use due to neutropenia (0% vs. 2.7%, p = 0.881), estimated lowest mean marginal (EM) platelet (106.56 × 10⁹ /L vs. 127.70 × 10⁹ /L, p = 0.056) and hemoglobin (110.48 g/L vs. 110.14 g/L, p = 0.906) levels between the two groups. However, when compared with the No-PP-group, the white blood cell count in the PP-group was significantly higher (EM means: 4.95 × 10⁹ /L vs. 2.80 × 10⁹ /L, p < 0.01), while the incidence of grade III or IV neutropenia was significantly lower (9.1% vs. 68.1%, p < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONS

The administration of a low dose (3 mg) of PEG-rhG-CSF within approximately 24 h or up to three days following EP treatment is safe and effective at reducing the risk of neutropenia. These findings bring a more flexible administration interval between PEG-rhG-CSF and EP treatment.

Nbnrp1 mediates Verticillium dahliae effector PevD1-triggered defense responses by regulating sesquiterpenoid phytoalexins biosynthesis pathway in Nicotiana benthamiana

PevD1, a fungal effector secreted by Verticillium dahliae, could induce hypersensitive responses-like necrosis and systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in cotton and tobacco plants. PevD1 could drastically induce the expression of Nbnrp1, which is an asparagine-rich protein (NRP) of Nicotiana benthamiana. Our previous research indicated that Nbnrp1 positively regulated PevD1-induced cell necrosis and disease resistance. In this study, we further investigated PevD1-induced immune responses in both wild-type (WT) and Nbnrp1-RNAi lines through RNA-seq, in order to reveal the underlying mechanism of Nbnrp1-modulated PevD1-induced disease resistance in N. benthamiana. Results showed that Nbnrp1-RNAi lines exhibited reduced PevD1-induced immune responses, like inhibiting H2O2 accumulation and MAPK phosphorylation. To silence Nbnrp1 inhibited the expression of PevD1-induced differential expression genes (DEGs) involved in pathways associated with sesquiterpenoid and triterpenoid biosynthesis, flavone and flavonol biosynthesis, plant-pathogen interaction and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, etc. It is worth noting that sesquiterpene phytoalexin capsidiol accumulation were obviously decreased in Nbnrp1-RNAi plants after PevD1 treatment, accompanied with the down-expression of EAS and EAH, which were two key genes related to capsidiol biosynthesis. These results suggested that Nbnrp1 mediates PevD1-induced defense responses by regulating sesquiterpenoid phytoalexins biosynthesis pathway.

Search for dark matter produced in association with a leptonically decaying Z boson in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 Te

A search for dark matter particles is performed using events with a Z boson candidate and large missing transverse momentum. The analysis is based on proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of 13Te , collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137fb - 1 . The search uses the decay channels Z → e e and Z → μ μ . No significant excess of events is observed over the background expected from the standard model. Limits are set on dark matter particle production in the context of simplified models with vector, axial-vector, scalar, and pseudoscalar mediators, as well as on a two-Higgs-doublet model with an additional pseudoscalar mediator. In addition, limits are provided for spin-dependent and spin-independent scattering cross sections and are compared to those from direct-detection experiments. The results are also interpreted in the context of models of invisible Higgs boson decays, unparticles, and large extra dimensions.
