Abstract
A breakthrough "Green Revolution" in rice enhanced lodging resistance by using gibberellin-deficient semi-dwarf varieties. However, the gibberellic acid (GA) signaling regulation on rice disease resistance remains unclear. The resistance test showed that a positive GA signaling regulator DWARF1 mutant d1 was more susceptible while a negative GA signaling regulator Slender rice 1 (SLR1) mutant was less susceptible to sheath blight (ShB), one of the major rice diseases, suggesting that GA signaling positively regulates ShB resistance. To isolate the regulator, which simultaneously regulates rice lodging and ShB resistance, SLR1 interactors were isolated. Yeast two-hybrid (Y2H), bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC), and Co-IP assay results indicate that SLR1 interacts with Calcineurin B-like-interacting protein kinase 31 (CIPK31). cipk31 mutants exhibited normal plant height, but CIPK31 OXs showed semi-dwarfism. In addition, the SLR1 level was much higher in CIPK31 OXs than in the wild-type, suggesting that CIPK31 OX might accumulate SLR1 to inhibit GA signaling and thus regulate its semi-dwarfism. Recently, we demonstrated that CIPK31 interacts and inhibits Catalase C (CatC) to accumulate ROS, which promotes rice disease resistance. Interestingly, CIPK31 interacts with Vascular Plant One Zinc Finger 2 (VOZ2) in the nucleus, and expression of CIPK31 accumulated VOZ2. Inoculation of Rhizoctonia solani AG1-IA revealed that the voz2 mutant was more susceptible to ShB. Thus, these data prove that CIPK31 promotes lodging and ShB resistance by regulating GA signaling and VOZ2 in rice. This study provides a valuable reference for rice ShB-resistant breeding.

Abstract
We present the measurements of all-particle energy spectrum and mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays in the energy range of 0.3-30 PeV using data collected from LHAASO-KM2A between September 2021 and December 2022, which is based on a nearly composition-independent energy reconstruction method, achieving unprecedented accuracy. Our analysis reveals the position of the knee at 3.67±0.05±0.15 PeV. Below the knee, the spectral index is found to be -2.7413±0.0004±0.0050, while above the knee, it is -3.128±0.005±0.027, with the sharpness of the transition measured with a statistical error of 2%. The mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays is almost heavier than helium in the whole measured energy range. It decreases from 1.7 at 0.3 PeV to 1.3 at 3 PeV, representing a 24% decline following a power law with an index of -0.1200±0.0003±0.0341. This is equivalent to an increase in abundance of light components. Above the knee, the mean logarithmic mass exhibits a power law trend towards heavier components, which is reversal to the behavior observed in the all-particle energy spectrum. Additionally, the knee position and the change in power-law index are approximately the same. These findings suggest that the knee observed in the all-particle spectrum corresponds to the knee of the light component, rather than the medium-heavy components.

Exploration of hypoglycemic peptides from porcine collagen based on network pharmacology and molecular docking. PLoS One 2024; 19:e0298674. Abstract
In recent years, the extraction of hypoglycemic peptides from food proteins has gained increasing attention. Neuropeptides, hormone peptides, antimicrobial peptides, immune peptides, antioxidant peptides, hypoglycemic peptides and antihypertensive peptides have become research hotspots. In this study, bioinformatic methods were used to screen and predict the properties of pig collagen-derived hypoglycemic peptides, and their inhibitory effects on α-glucosidase were determined in vitro. Two peptides (RL and NWYR) were found to exhibit good water solubility, adequate ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, elimination, and toxicity) properties, potentially high biological activity, and non-toxic. After synthesizing these peptides, NWYR showed the best inhibitory effect on α-glucosidase with IC50 = 0.200±0.040 mg/mL, and it can regulate a variety of biological processes, play a variety of molecular functions in different cellular components, and play a hypoglycemic role by participating in diabetic cardiomyopathy and IL-17 signaling pathway. Molecular docking results showed that NWYR had the best binding effect with the core target DPP4 (4n8d), with binding energy of -8.8 kcal/mol. NWYR mainly bonded with the target protein through hydrogen bonding, and bound with various amino acid residues such as Asp-729, Gln-731, Leu-765, etc., thus affecting the role of the target in each pathway. It is the best core target for adjuvant treatment of T2DM. In short, NWYR has the potential to reduce type 2 diabetes, providing a basis for further research or food applications as well as improved utilization of pig by-products. However, in subsequent studies, it is necessary to further verify the hypoglycemic ability of porcine collagen active peptide (NWYR), and explore the hypoglycemic mechanism of NWYR from multiple perspectives such as key target genes, protein expression levels and differences in metabolites in animal models of hyperglycemia, which will provide further theoretical support for its improvement in the treatment of T2DM.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate whether RSV inhibits neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) that induce joint hyperalgesia in C57BL/6 mice after adjuvant-induced arthritis. A subplantar injection of Freund's complete adjuvant was administered to C57BL/6 mice on day 0 for immunization in the AIA model. Resveratrol (RSV, 25 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally once daily starting on day 22 and continuing for two weeks. The effects of mechanical hyperalgesia and edema formation have been assessed in addition to histopathological scoring. Mice were sacrificed on day 35 to determine cytokine levels and PADI4 and COX-2 expression levels. ELISA was used to quantify neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) along with neutrophil elastase-DNA and myeloperoxidase-DNA complexes in neutrophils. An immunohistochemical stain was performed on knee joints to determine the presence of nuclear factor kappa B p65 (NF-kappaB p65). AIA mice were found to have higher levels of NET in joints and their joint cells demonstrated an increased expression of the PADI4 gene. Treatment with RSV in AIA mice (25 mg/kg, i.p.) significantly (P<0.05) inhibited joint hyperalgesia, resulting in a significant increase in mechanical threshold, a decrease in articular edema, a decrease in the production of inflammatory cytokines, increased COX-2 expression, and a decrease in the immunostaining of NF-kappaB. Furthermore, treatment with RSV significantly reduced the amount of neutrophil elastase (NE)-DNA and MPO-DNA complexes, which were used as indicators of NET formation (P<0.05). This study indicates that RSV reduces NET production and hyperalgesia by reducing inflammation mediated by PADI4 and COX-2. According to these data, NETs contribute to joint pain and resveratrol can be used to treat pain in RA through this pathway.

Abstract
Introduction During July and August 2020, Three Gorges Reservoir Area (TGRA) suffered from catastrophic seasonal floods. Floods changed environmental conditions and caused increase in concentration of microcystins (MCs) which is a common and potent cyanotoxin. However, the effects and seasonal variations of MCs, cyanobacteria, and environmental conditions in TGRA after the 2020 Yangtze River extreme seasonal floods remain largely unclear, and relevant studies are lacking in the literature. Methods A total of 12 representative sampling sites were selected to perform concentration measurement of relevant water quality objectives and MCs in the representative area of the TGRA. The sampling period was from July 2020 to October 2021, which included the flood period. Organic membrane filters were used to perform the DNA extraction and analyses of the 16S rRNA microbiome sequencing data. Results Results showed the seasonal floods result in significant increases in the mean values of microcystin-RR (MCRR), microcystin-YR (MCYR), and microcystin-LR (MCLR) concentration and some water quality objectives (i.e., turbidity) in the hinterland of TGRA compared with that in non-flood periods (p < 0.05). The mean values of some water quality objectives (i.e., total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total dissolved phosphorus (TDP), and turbidity), MC concentration (i.e., MCRR, MCYR, and MCLR), and cyanobacteria abundance (i.e., Cyanobium_PCC-6307 and Planktothrix_NIVA-CYA_15) displayed clear tendency of increasing in summer and autumn and decreasing in winter and spring in the hinterland of TGRA. Discussions The results suggest that seasonal floods lead to changes in MC concentration and environmental conditions in the hinterland of TGRA. Moreover, the increase in temperature leads to changes in water quality objectives, which may cause water eutrophication. In turn, water eutrophication results in the increase in cyanobacteria abundance and MC concentration. In particular, the increased MC concentration may further contribute to adverse effects on human health.

Abstract
The diffuse Galactic γ-ray emission, mainly produced via interactions between cosmic rays and the interstellar medium and/or radiation field, is a very important probe of the distribution, propagation, and interaction of cosmic rays in the Milky Way. In this Letter, we report the measurements of diffuse γ rays from the Galactic plane between 10 TeV and 1 PeV energies, with the square kilometer array of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). Diffuse emissions from the inner (15°10 TeV). The energy spectrum in the inner Galaxy regions can be described by a power-law function with an index of -2.99±0.04, which is different from the curved spectrum as expected from hadronic interactions between locally measured cosmic rays and the line-of-sight integrated gas content. Furthermore, the measured flux is higher by a factor of ∼3 than the prediction. A similar spectrum with an index of -2.99±0.07 is found in the outer Galaxy region, and the absolute flux for 10≲E≲60 TeV is again higher than the prediction for hadronic cosmic ray interactions. The latitude distributions of the diffuse emission are consistent with the gas distribution, while the longitude distributions show clear deviation from the gas distribution. The LHAASO measurements imply that either additional emission sources exist or cosmic ray intensities have spatial variations.

[The safety and efficacy of prophylactic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for elderly patients with locally advanced gastric cancer: a propensity score matching analysis]. Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of prophylactic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) on elderly patients diagnosed with locally advanced gastric cancer based on a propensity score matching analysis. Methods: Clinical data of elderly patients with locally advanced gastric cancer who underwent radical gastrectomy in Beijing Hospital from January 2017 to December 2021 were retrospectively collected. According to whether HIPEC was used, the patients were divided into HIPEC group (radical gastrectomy combined with HIPEC) and control group (radical gastrectomy alone), and 29 patients in HIPEC group and 122 patients in control group. After 1∶1 matching of PSM, there were 28 patients in each group. The clinicopathological data, surgical data, postoperative recovery and long-term survival of the two groups were compared and analyzed. Results: Before PSM, the mean age in the HIPEC group was (70.7±4.0) years, and in the control group was (73.1±5.8) years (P=0.011). After PSM, the mean age in the HIPEC group was (70.9±3.9) years, and it was (71.8±5.4) years in the control group (P=0.739). Before PSM, the incidence of postoperative complications was 20.7% (6 cases) in the HIPEC group and 26.2% (32 cases) in the control group (P=0.639). After PSM, the incidence of postoperative complications was 21.4% (6 cases) in the HIPEC group and 14.3% (4 cases) in the control group (P=0.730). Before PSM, the mean duration of hospitalization after radical gastrectomy was (13.6±7.6) days in HIPEC group and (16.2±13.0) days in control group, respectively (P=0.312). After PSM, the mean duration of hospitalization after radical gastrectomy was (13.7±7.8) days in HIPEC group and (15.4±9.7) days in control group, respectively (P=0.479). Before PSM, the 1-and 3-year overall survival rates of the HIPEC group were 88.2% and 69.7%, and 88.0% and 66.1% for control group, respectively, with no statistical difference between the two groups in overall survival (P=0.499). After PSM, the 1-and 3-year overall survival rates of the HIPEC group were 86.8% and 69.7%, and 93.1% and 67.5% for control group, respectively, with no statistical difference between the two groups in overall survival (P=0.425). Before PSM, the 1-and 3-year disease-free survival rates of the HIPEC group were 88.2% and 67.1%, and 87.8% and 64.3% for control group, respectively, with no statistical difference between the two groups in disease-free survival (P=0.863). After PSM, the 1-and 3-year disease-free survival rates of the HIPEC group were 88.2% and 62.8%, and 93.7% and 64.7% for control group, respectively, with no statistical difference between the two groups in disease-free survival (P=0.804). Conclusions: Radical surgery combined with HIPEC for elderly patients with gastric cancer does not increase postoperative complications and postoperative recovery time. However, there was no significant difference in overall survival and disease-specific survival between the two groups.

Abstract
As the primary energy source for a plant host and microbe to sustain life, sugar is generally exported by Sugars Will Eventually be Exported Transporters (SWEETs) to the host extracellular spaces or the apoplast. There, the host and microbes compete for hexose, sucrose, and other important nutrients. The host and microbial monosaccharide transporters (MSTs) and sucrose transporters (SUTs) play a key role in the "evolutionary arms race". The result of this competition hinges on the proportion of sugar distribution between the host and microbes. In some plants (such as Arabidopsis, corn, and rice) and their interacting pathogens, the key transporters responsible for sugar competition have been identified. However, the regulatory mechanisms of sugar transporters, especially in the microbes require further investigation. Here, the key transporters that are responsible for the sugar competition in the host and pathogen have been identified and the regulatory mechanisms of the sugar transport have been briefly analyzed. These data are of great significance to the increase of the sugar distribution in plants for improvement in the yield.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to explore the difference of prognosis in oldest-old colon cancer patients between the left-side and right-side hemicolectomy. Methods: A total of 238 oldest-old (≥75 years old) colon cancer patients who received surgical treatment in Gastrointestinal Surgery Department of Beijing Hospital from December 2010 to December 2020 were retrospectively collected. They were divided into right-side hemicolectomy (RCC) group (130 cases) and left-side hemicolectomy (LCC) group (108 cases) by surgical methods. The difference in postoperative short-term complications and long-term prognosis was compared between the two groups, and the related factors of postoperative death was analyzed using multivariate Cox regression model. Results: The age of 238 oldest-old patients with colon cancer ranged from 75 to 93 years old (80.5±3.7). There were 128 males and 110 females. The ages of patients in the LCC group and RCC group were (80.4±3.7) and (80.6±3.7) years old (P=0.699), respectively. There was no significant difference in gender, body mass index (BMI) and co-existing chronic diseases between two groups (P>0.05). The proportion of the duration of surgery exceeding 170 min in the LCC group was significantly higher than that in the RCC group (56.5% vs 43.1%, P=0.039). The incidence of postoperative short-term complications in RCC group was slightly higher than LCC group (P>0.05), and there was no significant difference in overall survival (OS), tumor-specific survival (CSS) and disease-free survival (DFS) between two groups. However, the two groups had different prognostic risk factors, pathological Ⅳ stage (HR=28.970,95%CI:1.768-474.813,P=0.018), intraoperative bleeding (HR=2.297,95%CI:1.351-3.907,P=0.002) and cancer nodules (HR=2.044,95%CI:1.047-3.989,P=0.036) were independent prognostic risk factors in LCC group. Underweight (HR=0.428,95%CI:0.192-0.955,P=0.038), overweight(HR=0.316,95%CI:0.125-0.800,P=0.015),obesity (HR=0.211,95%CI:0.067-0.658,P=0.007), lymph node metastasis (HR=2.682,95%CI:1.497-4.807,P=0.001), tumor nodule (HR=2.507,95%CI:1.301-4.831,P=0.027) and postoperative length of stay of 9 days (HR=1.829,95%CI:1.070-3.128,P=0.006) were independent risk factors for poor prognosis in RCC group. Conclusions: The duration of surgery of oldest-old colon cancer patients in the LCC group was longer than that in the RCC group. However, there was no significant difference in the incidence of postoperative complications between the two groups. High pathological stage, more intraoperative bleeding and cancer nodules were independent prognostic risk factors in the LCC group. Abnormal BMI, lymph node metastasis, cancer nodules and postoperative length of stay were independent risk factors for poor prognosis in the RCC group.

Abstract
Nanoplastics and microbial pathogens are both widely distributed in the environment; however, their combined toxicity remains largely unclear. Using Caenorhabditis elegans as an animal model, we examined the possible effect of exposure to polystyrene nanoparticle (PS-NP) in Acinetobacter johnsonii AC15 (a bacterial pathogen) infected animals. Exposure to PS-NP at the concentrations of 0.1-10 μg/L significantly enhanced the toxicity of Acinetobacter johnsonii AC15 infection on lifespan and locomotion behaviors. In addition, after exposure to 0.1-10 μg/L PS-NP, the accumulation of Acinetobacter johnsonii AC15 in body of nematodes was also increased. Meanwhile, the innate immune response indicated by the increase of antimicrobial gene expressions in Acinetobacter johnsonii AC15 infected nematodes was suppressed by exposure to 0.1-10 μg/L PS-NP. Moreover, expressions of egl-1, dbl-1, bar-1, daf-16, pmk-1, and elt-2 governing the bacterial infection and immunity in Acinetobacter johnsonii AC15 infected nematodes were further inhibited by exposure to 0.1-10 μg/L PS-NP. Therefore, our data suggested the possible exposure risk of nanoplastic at predicted environmental concentrations in enhancing the toxic effects of bacterial pathogens on environmental organisms.

Abstract
Some gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) have a tera-electron volt (TeV) afterglow, but the early onset of this has not been observed. We report observations with the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory of the bright GRB 221009A, which serendipitously occurred within the instrument field of view. More than 64,000 photons >0.2 TeV were detected within the first 3000 seconds. The TeV flux began several minutes after the GRB trigger, then rose to a peak about 10 seconds later. This was followed by a decay phase, which became more rapid ~650 seconds after the peak. We interpret the emission using a model of a relativistic jet with half-opening angle ~0.8°. This is consistent with the core of a structured jet and could explain the high isotropic energy of this GRB.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We evaluated whether interictal epileptiform discharge (IED) rate and morphological characteristics predict seizure risk. METHODS We evaluated 10 features from automatically detectable IEDs in a stereotyped population with self-limited epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes (SeLECTS). We tested whether the average value or the most extreme values from each feature predicted future seizure risk in cross-sectional and longitudinal models. RESULTS 10,748 individual centrotemporal IEDs were analyzed from 59 subjects at 81 timepoints. In cross-sectional models, increases in average spike height, spike duration, slow wave rising slope, slow wave falling slope, and the most extreme values of slow wave rising slope each improved prediction of an increased risk of a future seizure compared to a model with age alone (p < 0.05, each). In longitudinal model, spike rising height improved prediction of future seizure risk compared to a model with age alone (p = 0.04) CONCLUSIONS: Spike height improves prediction of future seizure risk in SeLECTS. Several other morphological features may also improve prediction and should be explored in larger studies. SIGNIFICANCE Discovery of a relationship between novel IED features and seizure risk may improve clinical prognostication, visual and automated IED detection strategies, and provide insights into the underlying neuronal mechanisms that contribute to IED pathology.

Seasonal pollution and surface characteristics of microplastics in surface water in the Wanzhou section of the Three Gorges Reservoir, China. Abstract
The pollution of freshwater environments with microplastics (MPs) has attracted increasing attention owing to their threats to aquatic ecosystems and human health. Here, we sampled and analyzed MPs from mainstream, tributary, and backwater areas in the Wanzhou section of the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) in impoundment and flood periods. Microplastic pollution was the most severe in the backwater areas. The average abundance of MPs reached the highest value in the flood period (5.27±3.47×107 items km-2), which was 3-5 times that in the impoundment period. In the 0.3-5 mm size class, the 1-5 mm fraction was the most abundant, accounting for more than 81% in the flood period and 68% of the total MP particle abundance in the impoundment period in the mainstream and backwater areas. However, 0.3-1 mm MPs contributed more than 50% in the tributaries during the impoundment period. Polystyrene, polypropylene, and polyethylene MPs were detected in foam, fragment, sheet, and line-shaped MP particles. White, opaque, foamed polystyrene MPs contributed 32-81% to total MP particle abundance in the watershed. Microplastic particle surfaces showed signs of damage and oxidation, and ten different elements were found. Oxygen was clustered on the surface of foam and fragment MPs. Microplastic pollution was severe in the Wanzhou watershed. Especially in the backwater areas, oxidized MPs of variable shapes derived mainly from surface runoff in the flood period and sewage discharge in the impoundment period were abundant. The results of this study contribute to understanding seasonal pollution patterns and surface characteristics of MPs in the TGR and similar watersheds.

Abstract
Mulberry (Morus alba), a widely distributed economic plant, can withstand long-term flooding stress. However, the regulatory gene network underlying this tolerance is unknown. In the present study, mulberry plants were subjected to submergence stress. Subsequently, mulberry leaves were collected to perform quantitative reverse-transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) and transcriptome analysis. Genes encoding ascorbate peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase were significantly upregulated after submergence stress, indicating that they could protect the mulberry plant from flood damage by mediating ROS homeostasis. Genes that regulate starch and sucrose metabolism; genes encoding pyruvate kinase, alcohol dehydrogenase, and pyruvate decarboxylase (enzymes involved in glycolysis and ethanol fermentation); and genes encoding malate dehydrogenase and ATPase (enzymes involved in the TCA cycle) were also obviously upregulated. Hence, these genes likely played a key role in mitigating energy shortage during flooding stress. In addition, genes associated with ethylene, cytokinin, abscisic acid, and MAPK signaling; genes involved in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis; and transcription factor genes also showed upregulation under flooding stress in mulberry plants. These results provide further insights into the adaptation mechanisms and genetics of submergence tolerance in mulberry plants and could aid in the molecular breeding of these plants.

Abstract
Rice sheath blight (ShB) disease poses a major threat to rice yield throughout the world. However, the defense mechanisms against ShB in rice remain largely unknown. ShB resistance is a typical quantitative trait controlled by multiple genes. With the rapid development of molecular methods, many quantitative trait loci (QTLs) related to agronomic traits, biotic and abiotic stresses, and yield have been identified by genome-wide association studies. The interactions between plants and pathogens are controlled by various plant hormone signaling pathways, and the pathways synergistically or antagonistically interact with each other, regulating plant growth and development as well as the defense response. This review summarizes the regulatory effects of hormones including auxin, ethylene, salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, brassinosteroids, gibberellin, abscisic acid, strigolactone, and cytokinin on ShB and the crosstalk between the various hormones. Furthermore, the effects of sugar and nitrogen on rice ShB resistance, as well as information on genes related to ShB resistance in rice and their effects on ShB are also discussed. In summary, this review is a comprehensive description of the QTLs, hormones, nutrition, and other defense-related genes related to ShB in rice. The prospects of targeting the resistance mechanism as a strategy for controlling ShB in rice are also discussed.

Abstract
Cryptosporidium and Giardia (major causes of diarrhea) are widely distributed in Chinese source waters and threaten human health. A new spatially explicit GloWPa-TGR-Crypt-Giar C1 model is presented to simultaneously estimate mean monthly (oo)cyst concentrations in surface and ground waters in the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) watershed. A quantitative risk assessment of protozoal infections considered different source waters, transmission pathways, regions, susceptible subpopulations, and drinking water treatments. Monthly mean Cryptosporidium oocyst and Giardia cyst concentrations ranged between 0.5-19.3 oocysts/10 L and 0.2-5.0 cysts/10 L in surface water, respectively, and 0.007-0.3 oocysts/10 L and 0.002-0. 2 cysts/10 L in groundwater. The cumulative disease burdens attributable to cryptosporidiosis and giardiasis were, respectively, 5.77×10-5 DALYs (disability-adjusted life years/person/year) and 4.63×10-6 DALYs in urban areas, and 6.35×10-4 DALYs and 8.84×10-5 DALYs in rural areas, which were much higher than the reference risk level recommended by the World Health Organization ([Formula: see text] DALYs). The annual burden associated with consuming surface water was calculated to be 3.84×10-4 DALYs for Cryptosporidium and [Formula: see text] DALYs for Giardia, whereas consuming groundwater entailed the lower burdens (1.26×10-5 and 3.50×10-6 DALYs, respectively). Most DALYs were a consequence of consumption of directly supplied surface water. Fifty percent of the health burden was carried by immunodeficiency with HIV. Children (0-4 years) were more likely to have an individual disease burden than adults (15-64 years). Males were more susceptible than females. Improving sanitation through adequate ozone and microfiltration treatment should be considered when attempting to reduce disease burden. Sensitivity analysis highlighted the importance of reducing (oo)cyst loads to protect the watershed. The methodology and results described will help in evaluating and reducing the burden of protozoal infection associated with surface and ground waters in the TGR and similar watersheds.

Abstract
The kilometer square array (KM2A) of the large high altitude air shower observatory (LHAASO) aims at surveying the northern γ-ray sky at energies above 10 TeV with unprecedented sensitivity. γ-ray observations have long been one of the most powerful tools for dark matter searches, as, e.g., high-energy γ rays could be produced by the decays of heavy dark matter particles. In this Letter, we present the first dark matter analysis with LHAASO-KM2A, using the first 340 days of data from 1/2-KM2A and 230 days of data from 3/4-KM2A. Several regions of interest are used to search for a signal and account for the residual cosmic-ray background after γ/hadron separation. We find no excess of dark matter signals, and thus place some of the strongest γ-ray constraints on the lifetime of heavy dark matter particles with mass between 10^{5} and 10^{9} GeV. Our results with LHAASO are robust, and have important implications for dark matter interpretations of the diffuse astrophysical high-energy neutrino emission.

Abstract
The interaction between nanoplastics and bacteria remains still largely unclear. In this study, we determined the effect of nanopolystyrene particle (NP) on a bacterial pathogen of Acinetobacter johnsonii AC15. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis indicated the aggregation of NPs from 10 μg/L to 100 μg/L on surface of A. johnsonii AC15, suggesting that A. johnsonii AC15 acted as the vector for NPs. Exposure to 100−1000 μg/L NPs increased the growth and colony-forming unit (CFU) of A. johnsonii AC15. In addition, exposure to 100−1000 μg/L NPs enhanced the amount of formed biofilm of A. johnsonii AC15. Alterations in expressions of 3 survival-related (zigA, basD, and zur), 5 biofilm formation-related (ompA, bap, adeG, csuC, and csuD), and 3 serum resistance-related virulence genes (lpxC, lpxL, and pbpG) were observed after exposure to 1000 μg/L NPs. Moreover, both CFU and survival rate of A. johnsonii AC15 in normal human serum (NHS) were significantly increased by 1−1000 μg/L NPs, suggesting the enhancement in serum resistance of Acinetobacter pathogen by NPs. In the NHS, expressions of 3 survival-related (zigA, basD, and zur), 9 biofilm formation-related (ompA, bap, adeF, adeG, csuA/B, csuC, csuD, csuE, and hlyD), and 3 serum resistance-related virulence genes (lpxC, lpxL, and pbpG) were affected by 1000 μg/L NPs. Expressions of 1 survival-related (zigA), 5 biofilm formation-related (bap, adeG, csuC, csuD, and csuE), and 3 serum resistance-related virulence genes (lpxC, lpxL, and pbpG) were also altered by 10 μg/L NPs after the addition of NHS. Therefore, exposure to NPs in the range of μg/L has the potential to enhance bacterial virulence by increasing their growth, biofilm formation, and serum resistance.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Vibrio parahaemolyticus is the main foodborne pathogen worldwide that causes acute gastroenteritis. A quantitative microbiological risk assessment (QMRA) was conducted to evaluate the health risk associated with V. parahaemolyticus in shellfish in the coastal cities in the eastern part of the People's Republic of China. The QMRA framework was established from shellfish at retail to cooking at home to consumption. The prevalence and level of V. parahaemolyticus in shellfish, cooking methods, storage temperature, time after purchase, shellfish consumption frequency, and consumption amount were analyzed in the exposure assessment. The results of the exposure assessment were introduced into the beta-Poisson dose-response model, and Monte Carlo analysis was used to calculate the risk of gastroenteritis from shellfish consumption. The probability of illness caused by V. parahaemolyticus from shellfish consumption per person per year (Pill,yr) was 3.49E-05. Seasonal differences were noted in the Pill/meal; the maximum was 4.81E-06 in summer and the minimum was 2.27E-07 in winter. The sensitivity analysis revealed that the level of V. parahaemolyticus in shellfish and the amount of shellfish consumed per meal were main factors contributing to illness. This QMRA provided valuable information such as the probability of illness associated with the consumption of shellfish and reference points for prevention strategies and control standards of V. parahaemolyticus in shellfish. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Intracranial aneurysms, a rare complication of radiation therapy, have been reported mainly in case reports or case series. We performed a multicenter, retrospective cohort study to investigate the characteristics of radiation-induced intracranial aneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS Data on 2641 patients with intracranial aneurysms were retrospectively collected from 3 hospitals between January 2005 and June 2014. An additional 1519 patients were recruited from a single center between July 2014 and March 2020. Aneurysms in patients with a history of radiation therapy for at least 6 months were defined as radiation-related aneurysms. Patients' demographic profiles, clinical characteristics, and aneurysm parameters detected on CTA were compared between radiation-related and control groups. RESULTS Of the 4160 patients, the average age was 57.9 (SD, 13.5) years, 2406 (57.8%) were women, 477 (11.5%) had multiple aneurysms, 3009 (72.3%) had SAH, and 34 (0.8%) had radiation-related aneurysms. The male-to-female ratio in the radiation-related group was significantly higher than that in the control group (2.4:1 versus 0.72:1, P = .001). The mean age of the radiation-related group was significantly younger than in the control group (51.4 [SD, 15.0] years versus 58.2 [SD, 13.5] years, P = .003). More patients in the radiation-related group presented with SAH than in the control group (without age and sex matching, 88.2% versus 72.2%, P = .037; with age and sex matching, 88.2% versus 58.8%, P = .006). Of the 4813 intracranial aneurysms, only 43 (0.9%) aneurysms were categorized as in the radiation-related group, whereas 4770 (99.1%) aneurysms constituted the control group. Compared with the control group, there was a significantly higher proportion of sidewall aneurysms (46.5% versus 32.3%, P = .048) and a predilection for aneurysms involving the ICA and posterior circulation arteries (72.1% versus 52.2%, P = .046) in the radiation-related group. CONCLUSIONS Compared with the control group, radiation-related aneurysms are more prone to occur in men and young patients, with a higher percentage of sidewall aneurysms located in the ICA and posterior circulation arteries. Furthermore, SAH is highly prevalent in patients with radiation-induced aneurysms, indicating that dedicated screening for aneurysms after radiation therapy is necessary, but further studies are needed to determine when and how to screen.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to find an accurate and fast method to diagnose the pathogen of bronchiectasis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Ten bronchiectasic patients diagnosed with Mucoid Pseudomonas Aeruginosa (MPA) in the past two years were analyzed. Accuracy and time were compared between microbiology rapid on-site evaluation (M-ROSE) and sputum bacterial culture. RESULTS The accuracy rate of M-ROSE in the patients is 100% consistent with bacterial culture results. The average time of M-ROSE is about 4.3 min, which is over 1000 times shorter than that of sputum bacterial culture. CONCLUSIONS M-ROSE may be a better method for etiological diagnosis of MPA.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the postoperative clinical characteristics of elderly patients with colorectal cancer at different ages. Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed on the clinical data of 720 elderly patients with Colorectal Cancer in Beijing Hospitals from January 2012 to December 2019. There were 411 males and 309 females with a median age of 74 years. We divided the patients into young-old, old-old, oldest-old colorectal cancer patient groups and used chi-square comparative analysis of different groups of patients with clinical disease characteristics. Results: The oldest-old colorectal cancer patients tended to have normal body mass index (BMI), and the site of the disease shifted to the right. The incidence of concomitant diseases such as heart disease and hypertension increases gradually with age, and the incidence of diabetes is highest in old-old colorectal cancer patients. The proportion of open surgery was higher in the oldest-old group, but the operation time was shorter than the other two groups. In addition, the incidence of postoperative complications in elderly patients with colorectal cancer gradually increases with age, especially cardiac complications and other complications such as pneumonia, deep venous thrombosis of lower limbs, urinary retention, urinary tract infection, renal failure, cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, and so on. Conclusions: The BMI of the oldest-old patients tended to be normal, and the site of the disease shifted to the right. The incidence of heart disease, hypertension, and other concomitant diseases and postoperative complications in elderly patients with colorectal cancer gradually increase with age. Thus, the choice of treatment should be more individualized for elderly patients with colorectal cancer, and more attention should be paid to perioperative management.

Abstract
Recently, the LHAASO Collaboration published the detection of 12 ultrahigh-energy γ-ray sources above 100 TeV, with the highest energy photon reaching 1.4 PeV. The first detection of PeV γ rays from astrophysical sources may provide a very sensitive probe of the effect of the Lorentz invariance violation (LIV), which results in decay of high-energy γ rays in the superluminal scenario and hence a sharp cutoff of the energy spectrum. Two highest energy sources are studied in this work. No signature of the existence of the LIV is found in their energy spectra, and the lower limits on the LIV energy scale are derived. Our results show that the first-order LIV energy scale should be higher than about 10^{5} times the Planck scale M_{Pl} and that the second-order LIV scale is >10^{-3}M_{Pl}. Both limits improve by at least one order of magnitude the previous results.

Abstract
Acinetobacter has been frequently detected in backwater areas of the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) region. We here employed Caenorhabditis elegans to perform biosafety assessment of Acinetobacter strains isolated from backwater area in the TGR region. Among 21 isolates and 5 reference strains of Acinetobacter, exposure to Acinetobacter strains of AC1, AC15, AC18, AC21, A. baumannii ATCC 19606T, A. junii NH88-14, and A. lwoffii DSM 2403T resulted in significant decrease in locomotion behavior and reduction in lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans. In nematodes, exposure to Acinetobacter strains of AC1, AC15, AC18, AC21, A. baumannii, A. junii and A. lwoffii also resulted in significant reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Moreover, exposure to Acinetobacter isolates of AC1, AC15, AC18, and AC21 led to significant increase in expressions of both SOD-3::GFP and some antimicrobial genes (lys-1, spp-12, lys-7, dod-6, spp-1, dod-22, lys-8, and/or F55G11.4) in nematodes. The Acinetobacter isolates of AC1, AC15, AC18, and AC21 had different morphological, biochemical, phylogenetical, and virulence gene properties. Our results suggested that exposure risk of some Acinetobacter strains isolated from the TGR region exists for environmental organisms and human health. In addition, C. elegans is useful to assess biosafety of Acinetobacter isolates from the environment.

Abstract
Late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins are involved in diverse abiotic stresses tolerance in many different organisms. Our previous studies have shown that the heterologous expression of OsLEA1a interfered with the resistance of Escherichia coli to abiotic stresses. However, in the present study, based on growth status and physiological indices of rice plant, the overexpression of OsLEA1a in rice conferred increased resistance to abiotic stresses compared with the wild-type (WT) plants. Before applying abiotic stresses, there were no significant differences in physiological indices of rice seedlings. After NaCl, sorbitol, CuSO4 and H2O2 stresses, the transgenic lines had lower relative electrical conductivity, malondialdehyde and lipid peroxidation, greater the contents of proline, soluble sugar and glutathione, and higher the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase and peroxidase than the WT plants. The results indicate that the OsLEA1a gene is involved in the protective response of plants to various abiotic stresses by inhibiting cell membrane damage and enhancing reactive oxygen species scavenging capacity. It was speculated that post-translational modification causes OsLEA1a functional differences in E. coli and rice. The present study shows that OsLEA1a could be a useful candidate gene for engineering abiotic stress tolerance in cultivated plants.

Abstract
The Crab Nebula is a bright source of gamma rays powered by the Crab Pulsar's rotational energy through the formation and termination of a relativistic electron-positron wind. We report the detection of gamma rays from this source with energies from 5 × 10-4 to 1.1 peta-electron volts with a spectrum showing gradual steepening over three energy decades. The ultrahigh-energy photons imply the presence of a peta-electron volt electron accelerator (a pevatron) in the nebula, with an acceleration rate exceeding 15% of the theoretical limit. We constrain the pevatron's size between 0.025 and 0.1 parsecs and the magnetic field to ≈110 microgauss. The production rate of peta-electron volt electrons, 2.5 × 1036 ergs per second, constitutes 0.5% of the pulsar spin-down luminosity, although we cannot exclude a contribution of peta-electron volt protons to the production of the highest-energy gamma rays.

Abstract
We report the discovery of an extended very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray source around the location of the middle-aged (207.8 kyr) pulsar PSR J0622+3749 with the Large High-Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO). The source is detected with a significance of 8.2σ for E>25 TeV assuming a Gaussian template. The best-fit location is (right ascension, declination) =(95.47°±0.11°,37.92°±0.09°), and the extension is 0.40°±0.07°. The energy spectrum can be described by a power-law spectrum with an index of -2.92±0.17_{stat}±0.02_{sys}. No clear extended multiwavelength counterpart of the LHAASO source has been found from the radio to sub-TeV bands. The LHAASO observations are consistent with the scenario that VHE electrons escaped from the pulsar, diffused in the interstellar medium, and scattered the interstellar radiation field. If interpreted as the pulsar halo scenario, the diffusion coefficient, inferred for electrons with median energies of ∼160 TeV, is consistent with those obtained from the extended halos around Geminga and Monogem and much smaller than that derived from cosmic ray secondaries. The LHAASO discovery of this source thus likely enriches the class of so-called pulsar halos and confirms that high-energy particles generally diffuse very slowly in the disturbed medium around pulsars.

Abstract
The extension of the cosmic-ray spectrum beyond 1 petaelectronvolt (PeV; 1015 electronvolts) indicates the existence of the so-called PeVatrons-cosmic-ray factories that accelerate particles to PeV energies. We need to locate and identify such objects to find the origin of Galactic cosmic rays1. The principal signature of both electron and proton PeVatrons is ultrahigh-energy (exceeding 100 TeV) γ radiation. Evidence of the presence of a proton PeVatron has been found in the Galactic Centre, according to the detection of a hard-spectrum radiation extending to 0.04 PeV (ref. 2). Although γ-rays with energies slightly higher than 0.1 PeV have been reported from a few objects in the Galactic plane3-6, unbiased identification and in-depth exploration of PeVatrons requires detection of γ-rays with energies well above 0.1 PeV. Here we report the detection of more than 530 photons at energies above 100 teraelectronvolts and up to 1.4 PeV from 12 ultrahigh-energy γ-ray sources with a statistical significance greater than seven standard deviations. Despite having several potential counterparts in their proximity, including pulsar wind nebulae, supernova remnants and star-forming regions, the PeVatrons responsible for the ultrahigh-energy γ-rays have not yet been firmly localized and identified (except for the Crab Nebula), leaving open the origin of these extreme accelerators.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the correlation between serum CCL20 level and disease severity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: From July 2018 to July 2019, a cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University. The observation group consisted of 105 outpatients and inpatients diagnosed with RA, while the control group was 90 healthy people with age and gender matched physical examination in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University. According to Steinbroker classification, RA patients were divided into Steinbroker grade 2 group (n=35), Steinbroker grade 3 group (n=38) and steinbroker grade 4 group (n=32); according to DAS28 score, RA patients were divided into remission group (DAS28<2.6)(n=39), mild active group (DAS28 2.6-3.2)(n=25), moderate active stage group (DAS28 3.2-5.1)(n=20) and severe active stage group (DAS28 ≥ 5.1)(n=21). The levels of chemokine ligand 20 (CCL20), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were detected by ELISA. The levels of CCL20 in each group were compared, and the correlation between CCL20 and other indicators was analyzed. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of CCL20 in diagnosis of RA was analyzed to explore the correlation between CCL20 and disease severity of RA patients. Results: Compared with the normal control group, the serum CCL20 level in RA patients was significantly increased [(48.1±16.7) pg/ml vs (17.6±5.9) pg/ml, t=19.39, P<0.001]. In addition, serum CCL20 in steinbroker grade 4 group was significantly higher than that in Steinbroker grade 3 group [(59.5±10.1) pg/ml vs (47.4±17.5) pg/ml, t=3.472, P<0.001], and the serum CCL20 level in steinbroker grade 3 group was significantly higher than that in steinbroker grade 2 group [(47.4±17.5) pg/ml vs (38.4±14.6) pg/ml, t=2.370, P<0.001], CCL20 level in steinbroker grade 2 group was significantly higher than that in normal control group [(38.4±14.6) pg/ml vs (17.6±5.9) pg/ml, t=7.738, P<0.001]. In addition, serum CCL20 level was significantly positively correlated with steinbroker score (r=0.505, P<0.001); CCL20 level in active RA patients was significantly higher than that in remission RA patients [(57.2±13.2) pg/ml vs (32.7±8.9) pg/ml, t=10.31, P<0.001]. The serum CCL20 level in severe activity group was significantly higher than that in moderate activity group [(60.6±10.9) pg/ml vs (51.7±16.2) pg/ml, t=0.212, P=0.040], and the serum CCL20 level in moderate activity group was significantly higher than that in mild activity group [(51.7±16.2) pg/ml vs (40.5±18.6) pg/ml, t=0.217, P=0.037]. In addition, there was a significant positive correlation between serum CCL20 level and DAS28 score (r=0.451, P<0.001). In addition, serum CCL20 level was positively correlated with serum CRP (r=0.332, P<0.001). According to the ROC curve, the specificity of steinbroker grade 2 group was 0.53, and the sensitivity was 0.74, AUC was 0.659; the sensitivity of steinbroker grade 3 group was 0.78, and the specificity was 0.69, AUC was 0.734; the sensitivity of mild vs medium stage was 0.64, and the specificity was 0.70, AUC was 0.699; the sensitivity of medium stage vs severe stage was 0.57, and the specificity was 0.68,AUC was 0.678. Conclusion: Serum CCL20 level in RA patients is significantly increased and positively correlated with disease severity, which may be used as a marker to observe and evaluate the progression of RA.

Abstract
Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia duodenalis are two waterborne protozoan parasites that can cause diarrhea. Human and animal feces in surface water are a major source of these pathogens. This paper presents a GloWPa-TGR-Crypto model that estimates Cryptosporidium and G. duodenalis emissions from human and animal feces in the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR), and uses scenario analysis to predict the effects of sanitation, urbanization, and population growth on oocyst and cyst emissions for 2050. Our model estimated annual emissions of 1.6 × 1015 oocysts and 2.1 × 1015 cysts from human and animal feces, respectively. Humans were the largest contributors of oocysts and cysts, followed by pigs and poultry. Cities were hot-spots for human emissions, while districts with high livestock populations accounted for the highest animal emissions. Our model was the most sensitive to oocyst excretion rates. The results indicated that 74% and 87% of total emissions came from urban areas and humans, respectively, and 86% of total human emissions were produced by the urban population. The scenario analysis showed a potential decrease in oocyst and cyst emissions with improvements in urbanization, sanitation, wastewater treatment, and manure management, regardless of population increase. Our model can further contribute to the understanding of environmental pathways, the risk assessment of Cryptosporidium and Giardia pollution, and effective prevention and control strategies that can reduce the outbreak of waterborne diseases in the TGR and other similar watersheds.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) has been suggested as an alternative means to deliver cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). HYPOTHESIS LBBP may deliver resynchronization therapy along with an advantage over traditional biventricular (BiV) pacing in clinical outcomes. METHODS Heart failure patients who presented LBBB morphology according to Strauss's criteria and received successful CRT procedure were enrolled in the present study. Propensity score matching was applied to match patients into LBBP-CRT group and BiV-CRT group. Then, the electrographic data, the echocardiographic data and New York heart association (NYHA) class were compared between the groups. RESULTS Twenty-one patients with successful LBBP procedure and another 21 matched patients with successful BiV-CRT procedure were finally enrolled in the study. The QRS duration (QRSd) was narrowed from 167.7 ± 14.9 ms to 111.7 ± 12.3 ms (P < .0001) in the LBBP-CRT group and from 163.6 ± 13.8 ms to 130.1 ± 14.0 ms (P < .0001) in the BiV-CRT group. A trend toward better left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) was recorded in the LBBP-CRT group (50.9 ± 10.7% vs 44.4 ± 13.3%, P = .12) compared to that in the BiV-CRT group at the 6-month follow-up. A trend toward better echocardiographic response was documented in patients receiving LBBP-CRT procedure (90.5% vs 80.9%, P = .43) and more super CRT response was documented in the LBBP-CRT group (80.9% vs 57.1%, P = .09) compared to that in the BiV-CRT group. CONCLUSIONS LBBP-CRT can dramatically improve the electrical synchrony in heart failure patients with LBBB. Meanwhile, compared with the traditional BiV-CRT, it has a tendency to significantly improve LVEF and enhance the NYHA cardiac function scores.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Left bundle branch pacing (LBBP) has emerged as a promising pacing modality for preventing pacing induced cardiomyopathy in patients complicated with conduction abnormalities (CAs) after prosthetic valve (PV) implantation. OBJECTIVE The present study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of LBBP in this patient population. METHODS LBBP was attempted in 20 patients complicated with atrioventricular block after PV implantation. Surface, intracardiac electrical measurements, and echocardiographic data were documented. Lead parameters and complications were routinely tracked at implantation and each follow-up visit. RESULTS LBBP was successful in 90% (18/20) participants. The paced QRS duration and the stimulus to left ventricular activation time were 106.8 ± 6.8 ms and 65.5 ± 5.4 ms, respectively. Left bundle branch (LBB) potential was recorded in 61.1% (11/18) patients who succeeded in LBBP. During the procedure, the mean unipolar myocardium capture threshold was 0.51 ± 0.15 V@0.4 ms while the unipolar bundle capture threshold was 0.84 ± 0.51 V@0.4 ms. The mean fluoroscopic exposure time and the radiation dose were 13.0 ± 9.2 min and 81.7 ± 8.3 mGy, respectively. The average follow-up period was 10.4 ± 5.9 months (range 3-23 months). Pacing parameters remained stable and no significant lead-related complications occurred during the whole observation period. CONCLUSIONS LBBP was safe and feasible in patients with PVs. Acceptable and stable pacing parameters could be expected during the procedure and the follow-ups.

Abstract
Due to the potential of release and accumulation in the environment, nanoplastics have attracted an increasing attention. In this study, we investigated the effect of exposure to nanopolystyrene (30 nm) in nematode Caenorhabditis elegans after the fungal infection. After Candida albicans infection, exposure to nanopolystyrene (10 and 100 μg/L) for 24-h could cause the more severe toxicity on lifespan and locomotion behavior compared with fungal infection alone. The more severe activation of oxidative stress and suppression of SOD-3:GFP expression and mitochondrial unfolded protein response (mt UPR) were associated with this observed toxicity enhancement induced by nanopolystyrene exposure. Moreover, the more severe C. albicans colony formation and suppression of innate immune response as indicated by the alteration in expression of anti-microbial genes (abf-2, cnc-4, cnc-7, and fipr-22/23) further contributed to the formation of this toxicity enhancement induced by nanopolystyrene exposure. Our results demonstrated that short-term exposure to nanopolystyrene in the range of μg/L potentially enhances the adverse effects of fungal infection on organisms.

Abstract
Cylindrospermopsin (CYN) is a widely distributed cyanobacterial toxin in water bodies and is considered to pose growing threats to human and environmental health. Although its potential toxicity has been reported, its effects on the vascular system are poorly understood. In this study, we examined the toxic effects of CYN on vascular development and the possible mechanism of vascular toxicity induced by CYN using zebrafish embryos and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). CYN exposure induced abnormal vascular development and led to an increase in the growth of common cardinal vein (CCV), in which CCV remodeling was delayed as reflected by the larger CCV area and wider ventral diameter. CYN decreased HUVECs viability, inhibited HUVECs migration, promoted HUVECs apoptosis, destroyed cytoskeleton, and increased intracellular ROS levels. Additionally, CYN could promote the expression of Bax, Bcl-2, and MLC-1 and inhibit the expression of ITGB1, Rho, ROCK, and VIM-1. Taken together, CYN may induce cytoskeleton damage and promote vascular endothelial cell apoptosis by the Rho/ROCK signaling pathway, leading to abnormal vascular development. The current results provide potential insight into the mechanism of CYN toxicity in angiocardiopathy and are beneficial for understanding the environmental risks of CYN for aquatic organisms and human health.
