Abstract
SummaryIn an experimental study in the rabbit, the modifications of some haemostasis parameters (platelet count, platelet retention and aggregation, platelet factors 3 and 4, platelet and plasma plasmin inhibiting activities, fibrinogen and other plasma factor levels, FDP), and histological findings are compared in both the normal animal and the animal with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) induced by thrombin perfusion after administration of fibrinolytic inhibitors (plasminogen antiactivators and proteinase inhibitors). In the normal animal, the administration of fibrinolytic inhibitors is followed by haemostatic changes similar to those found in thrombophilic states. The modifications are more pronounced with plasminogen antiactivators than with proteinase inhibitors. In the animal with DIC, the administration of fibrinolytic inhibitors enhances the haemostatic and the biological disorders produced by thrombin perfusion. The effect of the plasminogen antiactivators is even more evident. The preventive administration of heparin reduces or abolishes the biological and histological disorders induced by thrombin; its beneficial effect is considerably reduced when thrombin is combined with fibrinolytic inhibitors. The administration of acetylsalicylic acid appears to be ineffective for the prevention of haemostatic and histological changes induced by thrombin perfusion.

Abstract
SummaryIn this experimental study on rabbits, we compare the haemostatic and histological changes observed in animals with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) induced by thrombin perfusion (100 u/kg/hr during 3 hours) with or without preventive administration of alpha and beta receptor stimulating or blocking agents. Both alpha and beta receptor stimulating agents enhance the disorders induced by thrombin alone, while alpha or beta blocking agents reduce them. This favourable action is still more pronounced with the combination of these two last types of drugs. The modifications observed appear to be related to changes in platelet function.

Abstract
During summer 2016, all the conditions for local mosquito-borne transmission of Zika virus (ZIKV) are met in mainland France: a competent vector, Aedes albopictus, a large number of travellers returning from ZIKV-affected areas, and an immunologically naive population. From 1 January to 15 July 2016, 625 persons with evidence of recent ZIKV infection were reported in mainland France. We describe the surveillance system in place and control measures implemented to reduce the risk of infection.

Abstract
On 6 December 2013, two laboratory-confirmed cases of chikungunya without a travel history were reported on the French part of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, indicating the start of the first documented outbreak of chikungunya in the Americas. Since this report, the virus spread to several Caribbean islands and French Guiana, and between 6 December 2013 and 27 March 2014 more than 17,000 suspected and confirmed cases have been reported. Further spread and establishment of the disease in the Americas is likely, given the high number of people travelling between the affected and non-affected areas and the widespread occurrence of efficient vectors. Also, the likelihood of the introduction of the virus into Europe from the Americas and subsequent transmission should be considered especially in the context of the next mosquito season in Europe. Clinicians should be aware that, besides dengue, chikungunya should be carefully considered among travellers currently returning from the Caribbean region.

Abstract
In October 2013, autochthonous dengue fever was diagnosed in a laboratory technician in Bouches-du-Rhone, southern France, a department colonised by Aedes albopictus since 2010. After ruling out occupational contamination, we identified the likely chain of local vector-borne transmission from which the autochthonous case arose. Though limited, this second occurrence of autochthonous dengue transmission in France highlights that efforts should be continued to rapidly detect dengue virus introduction and prevent its further dissemination in France.

Abstract
In May 2013, Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection was diagnosed in an adult male in France with severe respiratory illness, who had travelled to the United Arab Emirates before symptom onset. Contact tracing identified a secondary case in a patient hospitalised in the same hospital room. No other cases of MERS-CoV infection were identified among the index case’s 123 contacts, nor among 39 contacts of the secondary case, during the 10-day follow-up period.

Abstract
Between October and December 2009, 23 cases of Salmonella Typhimurium (Dutch) phage type 132, each with an identical multiple-locus variable-number tandem-repeat analysis (MLVA) profile (02-20-08-11-212), were reported from across the Netherlands. A case–control study was conducted using the food-consumption component of responses to a routine population-based survey as a control group. The mean age of cases was 17 years (median: 10 years, range: 1–68). Sixteen cases were aged 16 years or under. Raw or undercooked beef products were identified as the probable source of infection. Consumers, in particular parents of young children, should be reminded of the potential danger of eating raw or undercooked meat.

Abstract
We report a case of intra-articular myxofibrosarcoma with acetabular involvement observed in a 10-Year-old boy. Myxofibrosarcoma is a frequent soft tIssue sarcoma usually observed in elderly subjects. It is extremely rare in children and has not been reported previously before the age of 22 Years. Myxofibrosarcoma is a specific type of soft tIssue tumor. Discussion continues concerning its relation with the myxoid variant of malignant fibrous histiocytoma. The myxoid matrix harbors fibroblastic cells with a curvilinear vessel configuration. Prognosis is good after complete resection and careful surveillance. Local recurrence may occur generally with progression of the tumor stage and risk of later metastasis. This is the first report of an intra-articular localization. We discuss the therapeutic options.

Abstract
No single musculoskeletal disorder has generated more passionate discussion than bone osteonecrosis. Surprisingly, its physiopathogenesis remains largely unknown despite in-depth studies. Its treatment is still debated, and its wide range of clinical manifestations which vary from totally asymptomatic to the catastrophic event of irreversible epiphyseal collapse remains a fascinating question for the clinicians (1-4). Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging has given a large tribute to the discussion during the last decade by allowing detection of marrow infarcts at a presymptomatic period of the disease, thus providing data on its natural history. Unfortunately, MR imaging has also contributed to increase the confusion among various epiphyseal disorders. The aim of the current paper is to provide an overview of the current knowledge of imaging features by stressing accepted data and delineating blind areas.

In a patient successfully transplanted 10 years earlier, we confirm that wrist and shoulder bone cysts, present at the time of transplantation, remain unchanged in size and number and demonstrate, for the first time, that they still contain beta-2-microglobulin (beta2m) amyloid. Regression of beta2m amyloid deposits in bone cysts disappears, if at all, very slowly.

Abstract
Two cases of induced healing of aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) following intralesional implantation of a bone paste made of autogeneic bone marrow and allogeneic bone powder are reported. The calcaneum in one case and the superior pubic ramus in the other were blown out by an ABC and would have required extensive surgery. Via a minimal exposure, the cyst was partially evacuated and filled with an admixture of a partially demineralized bone particles with bone marrow. Ossification of the peripheral shell was the first sign of healing and was observed within the first 3 postoperative months. Successful healing was observed in both cases. The rationale underlying this intralesional treatment was that the bone grafting material might reverse ABC expansion by promoting ossification through a bone induction mechanism. The concept of this treatment was to retain the ABC tissue, using its own intrinsic osteogenic potential to promote healing. By triggering intralesional new bone formation, the bone paste represented an effective means to reverse the expanding phase of ABC. The particulated bone allograft was easy to handle and to introduced in an irregular cavity. Moreover, as a complete cyst evacuation was not required, a minimal surgical approach could be used so that the risks and morbidity associated with an extensive approach were reduced. Its use is of particular interest in poorly accessible areas like the pelvis and spine.

Abstract
The case of a 49-year-old woman suffering from generalized skeletal pain and multiple fractures accompanied by severe hypophosphataemia and low urinary phosphorus excretion is reported. She had been taking large amounts of antacids containing aluminum hydroxide for many years. A diagnosis of antacid-induced osteomalacia was made. It was confirmed by biological work-up, radiographs and bone biopsy. A dramatic biological, osteodensitometric, and clinical improvement was achieved by withdrawal of antacids and phosphorus administration. The literature concerning this unusual condition has been reviewed.

Abstract
In 15 hips with typical signs of avascular necrosis of the femoral head on plain radiographs and magnetic resonance (MR) images, gadolinium-enhanced spin-echo and fat-suppressed MR images were obtained and compared with nonenhanced T1- and T2-weighted images. Both enhanced and nonenhanced areas were consistently detected in the abnormal femoral heads. Enhanced areas showed a low signal intensity (SI) on T1-weighted MR images obtained before contrast material was administered and an intermediate to high SI on T2-weighted images. Nonenhanced areas showed an SI either identical (pattern 1) or hypointense (pattern 2) to that of fat on both sequences. Histologic correlation (six resected femoral heads) helped confirm that enhanced and nonenhanced areas corresponded respectively to viable and necrotic tissue. In most cases, SI analysis of nonenhanced T1- and T2-weighted images allows the differentiation of hypervascularized viable tissue from hypovascularized necrotic tissue of the sequestrum.

Abstract
To test the possibility that interleukin-9 (IL-9), the human homologue of the mouse T-cell growth factor P40, may be involved in the pathogenesis of human lymphomas, we examined IL-9 expression in a variety of tumors both by Northern blot analysis and by in situ hybridization. Of 18 B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and 11 peripheral T-cell lymphomas, none expressed IL-9 message. By contrast, IL-9 message was found in two of six cases of large cell anaplastic lymphoma (LCAL) and in 6 of 13 cases of Hodgkin's disease (HD). In HD the strongest signals were observed in Hodgkin (H) and Sternberg-Reed (SR) cells, but IL-9 mRNA was also detected in small lymphocytic cells. A search for IL-9 message in a panel of 20 cell lines derived both from hematopoietic and nonhematopoietic tumors confirmed the unique association of IL-9 expression with HD and LCAL in as much as the only two cell lines with IL-9 message were derived from cases of HD and LCAL. These results suggest that IL-9 is not involved as an autocrine growth factor in the pathogenesis of most B- and T-cell lymphomas, but that it may play a role in HD and LCAL.

Abstract
We report two patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in whom hypercalcemia and elevated 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25-(OH)2D3) levels developed in the absence of any lytic bone lesions. Hypercalcemia responded only transiently to glucocorticoids which were ill tolerated. Intravenous APD administration was needed to circumvene hypercalcemia. Humoral hypercalcemia of malignancy is discussed. Our cases confirm that hypercalcemia associated with elevated 1,25-(OH)2D3 may occur in malignant lymphoma.

Abstract
A woman suffering from primary Sjögren's syndrome developed sensitive neuropathy. The disease was further complicated by follicular lymphoma, an unusual albeit already described complication of Sjögren's disease. The clinical data suggest that mononuclear infiltration of the dorsal root ganglions could be at the origin of a sensitive neuropathy, inducing an axonal degeneration of the nerves.

Abstract
The histological demonstration of beta 2-microglobulin (B2M) amyloidosis in a 75-year-old man treated exclusively by continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) for 87 months is reported. Amyloid deposits were detected in all joints from which synovial specimens were obtained at autopsy. It is of note that the patient had never undergone hemodialysis and had suffered only one episode of peritonitis. Both features are of interest, as the few reports of dialysis-related amyloidosis (DRA) in CAPD include patients who have been hemodialyzed and have suffered repeated episodes of peritonitis, both conditions being incriminated in the genesis of B2M amyloidosis. We conclude that DRA may develop in the absence of artificial membranes or frequent peritonitis episodes.

Abstract
We report three cases of spontaneous healing of aneurysmal bone cysts (ABC). In one case histological material was obtained after resection of the already ossified expansile mass discovered as a lytic lesion seven months previously. In the two other patients, spontaneous ossification of a radiologically presumed ABC in the lytic and expansile phase was observed after nine and seven months respectively. The healed lesions have remained stable at 12, 32, and 36 months respectively. These findings suggest that when the diagnosis can be made with confidence, and the lesion is in a location and at a stage that does not entail any risk of fracture or compression, expectant management should be considered. Our three patients were aged 22, 19 and 18 years, older than usual for developing ABC. This is also true for many of the few other reported cases of spontaneous or almost spontaneous healing and suggests that ABC has a greater tendency to stabilise in older patients.

Abstract
The authors report a case of Wegener's granulomatosis unusual for its initial signs. The first evidence of disease consisted in pains in the lower limbs, probably caused by inflammatory processes involving the fascia. Biochemical, radiological and histological examinations allowed the diagnosis to be made.

Abstract
A 43-year-old man suffered from migrating then additive arthralgias associated with macroscopic and microscopic cutaneous lesions compatible at first sight with reticular erythematous mucinosis. After nine months, the cutaneous picture evolved into a papular mucinosis. The patient developed "multiple frozen joints" with heterotopic bony deposits around the hips. To our knowledge, such articular problems have not yet been described in this condition. Severe systemic complications prompted the authors to treat the patient with plasma exchange and melphalan.
