Abstract
Three ΔI=1 bands with the πg_{9/2}⊗νg_{9/2} configuration have been identified in _{35}^{74}Br_{39}. Angular distribution, linear polarization, and lifetime measurements were performed to determine the multipolarity, type, mixing ratio, and absolute transition probability of the transitions. By comparing these experimental observations with the corresponding fingerprints and the quantum particle rotor model calculations, the second and third lowest bands are, respectively, suggested as the chiral partner and one-phonon wobbling excitation built on the yrast band. The evidence indicates the first chiral wobbler in nuclei.

Abstract
We report here the first observation of the 0_{2}^{+} state of ^{8}He, which has been predicted to feature the condensatelike α+^{2}n+^{2}n cluster structure. We show that this state is characterized by a spin parity of 0^{+}, a large isoscalar monopole transition strength, and the emission of a strongly correlated neutron pair, in line with theoretical predictions. Our finding is further supported by the state-of-the-art microscopic α+4n model calculations. The present results may lead to new insights into clustering in neutron-rich nuclear systems and the pair correlation and condensation in quantum many-body systems under strong interactions.

Abstract
Solitary fibrous tumor/hemangiopericytoma (SFT/HPC) is extremely rare, and most of them are immediately treated for radical resection. However, the information concerning its natural history remains unclear. In this report, we presented a patient with parapharyngeal SFT/HPC, who was not immediately treated with surgical resection at first diagnosis. After approximately 3 years, the tumor volume doubling time (TVDT) and specific growth rate (SGR) could be measured through 3 serial magnetic resonance imagings. The TVDTs in the early and late pretreatment stages were 350 and 180 days, respectively, while the SGRs were 0.002 and 0.003, respectively. The growth rate of this disease entity is generally slow and may accelerate in the disease process.

Abstract
To observe the regulation of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2)/Beclin 1 interaction through electroacupuncture (EA) intervention during reperfusion and to investigate the EA mechanism of apoptosis-autophagy interactive regulation against myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI). A total of 48 adult Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into the sham-operated group (group Sham), the model group (group Model), the EA group (group EA), and the JNK inhibitor (SP600125) group (group JNK), with 12 rats in each group. Biospecimens were collected randomly from six rats in each group four hours after reperfusion. Evans Blue and triphenyl tetrazolium chloride double-staining were applied to observe each group's myocardial damage area and risk area. We collected 4 ml of blood by abdominal aortic method to detect serum troponin cTnI level by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). For the remaining six in each group, a part of myocardial tissue below the ligation line was stored in 4% paraformaldehyde for immunohistochemistry and TUNEL staining; the other amount of myocardial tissue was detected by Western blotting to determine the expression levels of Bcl-2, Beclin1, and the phosphorylation levels of Thr69, Ser70, and Ser87 in Bcl-2. In results: electroacupuncture (EA) intervention during reperfusion significantly reduced the myocardial infarction area, cTnI level, and myocardial apoptosis, upregulated Bcl-2 expression, downregulated Beclin 1 expression and inhibited phosphorylation levels of Thr69, Ser70, and Ser87 in Bcl-2. We concluded that EA effectively inhibited apoptosis by upregulating Bcl-2 expression and inhibiting the phosphorylation of Thr69, Ser70, and Ser87 in Bcl-2. This reduced the separation of Bcl-2 and Beclin 1, restrains excessive autophagy, alleviates MIRI, and has a protective effect on myocardial tissue.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to investigate the role of IGFBP5 in colorectal cancer (CRC) and the relationship between the expression of IGFBP5 and clinicopathological parameters in CRC patients. Patients and Methods Immunohistochemical analysis was used to detect the expression of IGFBP5 and its correlation with clinicopathological parameters of CRC patients. Prognosis analysis, gene set enrichment analysis, and protein interaction network analysis were performed using bioinformatics analysis. The Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer (GDSC) dataset was used to analyze the correlation between the expression of IGFBP5 and drug resistance. Results Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the expression of IGFBP5 was significantly higher in CRC tissues than in para-cancerous tissues (P < 0.05). High expression of IGFBP5 was associated with tumor differentiation and the N stage of CRC (P < 0.05). Moreover, high expression of IGFBP5 predicted worse overall survival and disease-free survival in CRC patients (P < 0.05). The expression of IGFBP5 was associated with cell–matrix adhesion, extracellular matrix binding, and collagen binding (P < 0.05). Furthermore, IGFBP5 was involved in the Hedgehog signaling pathway and PI3K-Akt signaling pathway (P < 0.05). IGF1, IGF2, SPP1, LTBP1, and FAM20C were most closely related to IGFBP5. Conclusion The expression of IGFBP5 is upregulated and associated with tumor differentiation, lymph node metastasis, drug resistance, and prognosis in CRC patients.

[Interference of P2X4 receptor expression in tumor-associated macrophages suppresses migration and invasion of glioma cells]. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of interference of P2X4 receptor expression in tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) on invasion and migration of glioma cells. METHODS C57BL/6 mouse models bearing gliomas in the caudate nucleus were examined for glioma pathology with HE staining and expressions of Iba-1 and P2X4 receptor with immunofluorescence assay. RAW264.7 cells were induced into TAMs using conditioned medium from GL261 cells, and the changes in mRNA expressions of macrophage polarization-related markers and the mRNA and protein expressions of P2X4 receptor were detected with RT-qPCR and Western blotting. The effect of siRNA-mediated P2X4 interference on IL-1β and IL-18 mRNA and protein expressions in the TAMs was detected with RT-qPCR and Western blotting. GL261 cells were cultured in the conditioned medium from the transfected TAMs, and the invasion and migration abilities of the cells were assessed with Transwell invasion and migration experiment. RESULTS The glioma tissues from the tumor-bearing mice showed a significantly greater number of Iba-1-positive cells, where an obviously increased P2X4 receptor expression was detected (P=0.001), than the brain tissues of the control mice (P < 0.001). The M2 macrophage markers (Arg-1 and IL-10) and M1 macrophage markers (iNOS and TNF-α) were both significantly up-regulated in the TAMs derived from RAW264.7 cells (all P < 0.01), but the up-regulation of the M2 macrophage markers was more prominent; the expression levels of P2X4 receptor protein and mRNA were both increased in the TAMs (P < 0.05). Interference of P2X4 receptor expression significantly lowered the mRNA(P < 0.01)and protein (P < 0.01, P < 0.05)expression levels of IL-1β and IL-18 in the TAMs and obviously inhibited the ability of the TAMs to promote invasion and migration of the glioma cells (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Interference of P2X4 receptor in the TAMs suppresses the migration and invasion of glioma cells possibly by lowering the expressions of IL-1β and IL-18.

Abstract
^{18}Mg was observed, for the first time, by the invariant-mass reconstruction of ^{14}O+4p events. The ground-state decay energy and width are E_{T}=4.865(34) MeV and Γ=115(100) keV, respectively. The observed momentum correlations between the five particles are consistent with two sequential steps of prompt 2p decay passing through the ground state of ^{16}Ne. The invariant-mass spectrum also provides evidence for an excited state at an excitation energy of 1.84(14) MeV, which is likely the first excited 2^{+} state. As this energy exceeds that for the 2^{+} state in ^{20}Mg, this observation provides an argument for the demise of the N=8 shell closure in nuclei far from stability. However, in open systems this classical argument for shell strength is compromised by Thomas-Ehrman shifts.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the therapeutic effect of rCsHscB derived from Clonorchis sinensis on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced chronic ulcerative colitis in mice. OBJECTIVE C57BL/6 mice were randomized into negative control (NC) group (n= 10), rCsHscB group (n=10), DSS group (n=15), and DSS+rCsHscB group (n=15), and in the latter two groups, chronic ulcerative colitis was induced in the mice using 2% DSS. In rCsHscB and DSS+ rCsHscB groups, the mice received intraperitoneal injections of 125 μg/mL rCsHscB on the 4th and 7th day following DSS administration, and PBS was injected in the other two groups. The mice were euthanized on the 84th day, and pathological changes of the colon were evaluated by HE and Masson staining. The levels of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in the peripheral blood and lamina propria gastric lymphocytes (LPL) were analyzed by flow cytometer; the levels of IL-6, MCP-1 and IL-10 in colon homogenate were determined using ELISA, and the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK and P38 was detected with Western blotting. OBJECTIVE Compared with those in NC group, the mice in rCsHscB group exhibited no adverse responses to the treatment. The mice in DSS group had severe pathologies in the colon with significantly increased ratios of CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ T cells in peripheral blood and LPL, increased levels of IL-6 and MCP-1 but no obvious changes in IL-10 in colon homogenate, and significantly augmented phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2, JNK and P38. Compared with those in DSS group, the mice in DSS+ rCsHscB group showed ameliorated colon pathologies with decreased CD4+T/CD8+T cell ratio in the peripheral blood and LPL, significantly decreased IL-6 and MCP-1 levels and increased IL-10 in colon homogenate, and lowered phosphorylation levels of ERK1/2, JNK and P38. OBJECTIVE rCsHscB can produce therapeutic effect on DSS-induced chronic ulcerative colitis in mice possibly by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory factors and regulating the balance of CD4+/CD8+T cells through the MAPK pathway.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE In recent years, the incidence of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) has increased. Many microRNAs (miRNAs) have been found to regulate PTC progression. However, the regulatory mechanism of miR-219 remains unclear in PTC. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the function of miR-219 in PTC. PATIENTS AND METHODS Quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot analysis were used to detect the expression of miR-219 and eyes absent homologue 2 (EYA2). The function of miR-219 was investigated by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) and transwell assays. The relationship between miR-219 and EYA2 was confirmed by Dual-Luciferase reporter assay. RESULTS MiR-219 expression was reduced and was associated with TNM stage and lymph node metastases in PTC patients. Functionally, overexpression of miR-219 restrained the viability and metastasis of PTC cells. In addition, miR-219 induced apoptosis and blocked EMT in PTC cells. Furthermore, miR-219 was confirmed to directly target EYA2 and inhibited its expression in PTC. More importantly, the upregulation of EYA2 impaired the inhibitory effect of miR-219 in PTC. CONCLUSIONS MiR-219 inhibits the viability and metastasis of PTC cells by downregulating EYA2.

Abstract
An inelastic excitation and cluster-decay experiment ^{2}H(^{16}C,^{4}He+^{12}Be or ^{6}He+^{10}Be)^{2}H was carried out to investigate the linear-chain clustering structure in neutron-rich ^{16}C. For the first time, decay paths from the ^{16}C resonances to various states of the final nuclei were determined, thanks to the well-resolved Q-value spectra obtained from the threefold coincident measurement. The close-threshold resonance at 16.5 MeV is assigned as the J^{π}=0^{+} band head of the predicted positive-parity linear-chain molecular band with (3/2_{π}^{-})^{2}(1/2_{σ}^{-})^{2} configuration, according to the associated angular correlation and decay analysis. Other members of this band were found at 17.3, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV based on their selective decay properties, being consistent with the theoretical predictions. Another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2 MeV which decays almost exclusively to ^{6}He+^{10}Be(∼6 MeV) final channel, corresponding well to another predicted linear-chain structure with the pure σ-bond configuration.

Abstract
Background Cheilitis granulomatosa (CG) is a disturbing and persistent idiopathic lip swelling. The cause and treatment has not been wholly elucidated. Some reports infer that CG is mainly associated with dental infection but no firm or reliable microbiological evidence has been provided for a causative organism. This study aimed to evaluate whether microorganisms contribute to the etiology of CG in order to inform appropriate treatment options in clinic. Material and Methods Unstimulated saliva was collected from 15 CG patients who were diagnosed clinically and pathologically and 15 healthy controls (HC). DNA was extracted from the precipitate of the centrifuged saliva for 16s rRNA high-throughput sequencing using the Miseq PE300 platform. The distribution of the microbiome between the two groups was compared. Results CG patients had a greater microbial flora that was more diverse than the HC. Prevotella, Alloprevotella, Porphyromonas, Actinomyces, Rothia, Fusobacterium, Haemophilus, and Aggregatibacter had a significantly higher abundance in CG patients. In contrast, Streptococcus and Campylobacter were the most abundant genera in HC with a mean relative abundance of 63% and 2%, respectively. The microbiological network indicated that most of the bacteria that were enriched at greater levels in CG patients were likely to be Prevotella, Actinomyces, and Rothia. These have been shown to co-exist with other bacteria. Conclusions: The composition and structure of bacterial communities in CG patients were different from HC. Most of the genera observed in CG patients were associated with periodontitis and pulp infection. These findings might be helpful in understanding the etiology of CG. Abstract
The β-delayed γ-ray spectroscopy of neutron-rich ^{123,125}Ag isotopes is investigated at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory of RIKEN, and the long-predicted 1/2^{-} β-emitting isomers in ^{123,125}Ag are identified for the first time. With the new experimental results, the systematic trend of energy spacing between the lowest 9/2^{+} and 1/2^{-} levels is extended in Ag isotopes up to N=78, providing a clear signal for the reduction of the Z=40 subshell gap in Ag towards N=82. Shell-model calculations with the state-of-the-art V_{MU} plus M3Y spin-orbit interaction give a satisfactory description of the low-lying states in ^{123,125}Ag. The tensor force is found to play a crucial role in the evolution of the size of the Z=40 subshell gap. The observed inversion of the single-particle levels around ^{123}Ag can be well interpreted in terms of the monopole shift of the π1g_{9/2} orbitals mainly caused by the increasing occupation of ν1h_{11/2} orbitals.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the diagnostic efficiency of oral mucosa disease, especially oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oral potential malignant disorders (OPMDs) by DNA cytometry compared with histopathological diagnosis, so as to find a convenient, simple and low-invasive method for screening and follow-up. METHODS 203 subjects with OSCC, OPMDs and other oral mucosa disease without dysplasia according to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria were recruited from Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology. The mean age was (52.44±13.55) years, 98 males and 105 females. Brush biopsy was taken before scalpel biopsy at the same site. The brush biopsy sample was screened by moticytometer system for DNA cytometry after Feulgen stain, and histopathological examination were taken for the scalpel tissue. Data from DNA cytometry were used to calculate the parameters, such as sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, odds ratios, Youden index (YI), positive and negative likelihood ratios, compared with the golden standard, histopathological diagnosis. DNA cytometry and histopathological diagnosis were performed back to back. RESULTS Totally, 42 OSCC and 4 tumor in situ (TIS), 39 oral leukoplakia (OLK) with dysplasia (17 mild dysplasia, 13 medium dysplasia and 9 severe dysplasia), 29 OLK with hyperplasia, 1 verrucous OLK, 83 oral lichen planus (OLP) and 5 inflammation were included in our research. We grouped the OSCC, TIS and dysplasia as the positive group and others without dysplasia as the negative group, the sensitivity of DNA cytometry was 79.07%, the specificity was 81.20%, and the diagnostic accuracy was 80.30%,We grouped the OSCC and TIS as the tumor group, OLP, OLK with hyperplasia and inflammation as the non-tumor group, The sensitivity of DNA cytometry in diagnosing OSCC and TIS was 95.65%, and the specificity was 81.2%, The diagnostic accuracy was 85.28%. positive predictive values 66.67%, negative predictive values 97.94%, ratio odds 95, positive likelihood ratio 5.09, negative likelihood ratio 0.05, and Youden index 0.77. For the dysplasia, we grouped the different dysplasia together as the dyaplasia group, OLP, OLK with hyperplasia and inflammation as the non-tumor group, the sensitivity of DNA cytometry in diagnosing dyaplasia is 60%, the specificity is 81.2%. The diagnostic accuracy is 75.8%, positive predictive values 52.17%, negative predictive values 85.59%, ratio odds 6.48, positive likelihood ratio 3.19, negative likelihood ratio 0.49, and Youden index 0.41. CONCLUSION DNA cytometry is convenient and low-invasive, which can be used as an adjuvant method for screening the early OSCC and OPMDs, monitoring the prognosis of OSCC after surgery. Further large-scale and long period prospective studies are necessary to validate the better value of DNA cytometry.

Abstract
Background: Resistance to endocrine therapy remains an important clinical problem in hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative (HER2-) breast cancer (BC), necessitating alternative treatment options. The insulin-like growth factor (IGF) axis and cyclin D-cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) 4/6-retinoblastoma pathway have been implicated in the pathogenesis and resistance mechanisms of a variety of cancers, including BC. Binding of IGF-I and -II to the IGF receptor results in upregulation of cyclin D1, and subsequent progression through the cell cycle, thus providing rationale for the simultaneous inhibition of IGF-I and -II and CDK4/6. This Phase Ib trial assesses the maximum-tolerated dose (MTD)/recommended phase II dose (RP2D), safety and preliminary efficacy of the IGF-ligand-neutralizing antibody, xentuzumab, in combination with abemaciclib, a selective, small-molecule inhibitor of both CDK4 and 6, in patients (pts) with solid tumors. The trial includes four dose finding cohorts followed by two expansion cohorts. Only those cohorts that will include pts with postmenopausal HR+, HER2- BC will be presented here.
Trial design: In this phase Ib multicenter, non-randomized, open-label, dose escalation trial (BI 1280.18 [NCT03099174]), the key aims in the BC cohorts (Cohorts B–D, F) are to define the MTD or recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D), and to evaluate the preliminary efficacy, safety and tolerability of xentuzumab plus abemaciclib in combination with endocrine therapies. Eligible pts include adults ≥18 yrs (≥20 for Japan), with measurable or evaluable disease, adequate organ function, ECOG PS ≤1, and postmenopausal locally advanced or metastatic HR+, HER2- BC (Cohorts B–D, F). CDK4/6 inhibitor-naïve pts (Cohorts B–D) and pts who have received prior CDK4/6 inhibitors (palbociclib or ribociclib) plus aromatase inhibitors (Cohort F) are included. The MTD/RP2D of xentuzumab plus abemaciclib to be used in Cohorts B–D will be established in pts with solid tumors (Cohort A) who will receive xentuzumab (starting dose 1000mg weekly iv) plus abemaciclib (starting dose 150mg every 12 hours). CDK4/6 inhibitor-naïve pts with BC will receive xentuzumab plus abemaciclib at the RP2D determined in Cohort A in combination with letrozole (2.5mg/day; Cohort B), anastrozole (1mg/day; Cohort C), or fulvestrant (500mg/month; Cohort D). CDK4/6 inhibitor pre-treated pts with BC (Cohort F) will receive xentuzumab plus abemaciclib and fulvestrant at the RP2D determined in Cohort D. Primary endpoints in the BC cohorts are the MTD and/or RP2D of xentuzumab plus abemaciclib in combination with endocrine therapies, and the objective response (OR) in CDK4/6 inhibitor pre-treated pts with advanced BC (Cohort F); disease control (DC), duration of DC, time to OR, duration of OR, and progression-free survival (PFS) in Cohort F are secondary endpoints. Additionally, PK outcomes, safety and tolerability will be assessed in all cohorts. This study will be conducted in the US, Europe and Japan. Pt screening started in May 2017. Target enrolment is ˜88 pts, including ˜56 pts with advanced HR+, HER2- BC, of whom ˜20 had previously been treated with CDK 4/6 inhibitors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess type C behavior in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) in order to provide basis for clinical prevention, treatment and psychological intervention of OLP. METHODS Type C behavior scale was used on 85 OLP patients and 85 control patients, who were in accordance with the inclusion criteria, in order to investigate their type C behavior. The scale included 9 items: anxiety, depression, anger, anger toward inside (anger-in), anger toward outside (anger-out), reasoning, domination, optimism, and social support. Scores of the 9 items between OLP patients and control group were calculated under the instruction of the scale and were statistically analyzed, and OLP group was further stratified statistically by sex, reticulate-erosive-ulcerative (REU) pathological type and course of diseases, and the scores of each group were analyzed and compared. RESULTS Among the 85 OLP patients, there were more females, more non-erosive lesion type, and the most common site for OLP was the buccal mucosa. The scores of the type-C behavior questionnaire for anxiety, depression, anger and optimism were respectively 43.01±7.47, 44.02±7.61, 21.56±5.26, 22.15±4.00 among the OLP patients and were 37.94±8.70, 39.58±7.35, 18.12±5.39, 24.05±3.23 among control group, with significant differences(P<0.05 for all) between the two groups. The female OLP patients had higher anxiety, depression, anger scores (43.21±6.97, 44.29±7.54, 21.64±5.09) and lower reasoning, domination, optimism scores (39.12±5.66, 16.29±3.95, 22.05±4.12) with significant differences (P<0.05 for all) compared with those of the female controls. The scores between male patients and male controls showed no significant difference. The patients with erosive lesions had higher anger score (22.94±5.26) than that of the patients without erosive lesions(20.60±5.03), with a significant difference(P<0.05). With the development of the disease, the tendency of anxiety and depression of the patients were more obvious, while optimism scores remained declining. The patients suffering more than 3 years of OLP had higher anger-toward-outside scores (17.36±3.35) than the patients suffering less than 3 years of OLP (15.19±3.99), with a significant difference (P<0.05). CONCLUSION OLP patients showed an obvious type C behavior characteristic, especially in anxiety, depression, anger and low optimism. This research provides the C behavior characteristic of OLP for further psychological consultation or intervention during OLP treatment.

Abstract
Objective: To explore a simple, rapid and efficient method for the diagnosis of oral candidiasis in clinical practice. Methods: Totally 124 consecutive patients with suspected oral candidiasis were enrolled from Department of Oral Medicine, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology, Beijing, China. Exfoliated cells of oral mucosa and saliva or concentrated oral rinse) obtained from all participants were tested by three rapid smear methods(10% KOH smear, gram-stained smear, Congo red stained smear). The diagnostic efficacy(sensitivity, specificity, Youden's index, likelihood ratio, consistency, predictive value and area under curve(AUC) of each of the above mentioned three methods was assessed by comparing the results with the gold standard(combination of clinical diagnosis, laboratory diagnosis and expert opinion). Results: Gram-stained smear of saliva(or concentrated oral rinse) demonstrated highest sensitivity(82.3%). Test of 10%KOH smear of exfoliated cells showed highest specificity(93.5%). Congo red stained smear of saliva(or concentrated oral rinse) displayed highest diagnostic efficacy(79.0% sensitivity, 80.6% specificity, 0.60 Youden's index, 4.08 positive likelihood ratio, 0.26 negative likelihood ratio, 80% consistency, 80.3% positive predictive value, 79.4% negative predictive value and 0.80 AUC). Conclusions: Test of Congo red stained smear of saliva(or concentrated oral rinse) could be used as a point-of-care tool for the rapid diagnosis of oral candidiasis in clinical practice. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the differences among the expressions of p38 mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPK), phospho-p38MAPK and nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) in oral lichen planus (OLP) and oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC). METHODS In the study, 53 cases of OLP, 45 of OSCC, and 18 controls were obtained and 4-μm-thick histological sections were prepared from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks.The expressions of p38MAPK,phospho-p38MAPK and NF-κB were detected by immunohistochemistry staining. Furthermore, the expressions of p38MAPK and phospho-p38MAPK were detected using Western blotting analyses in the fresh tissues from 11 cases of OLP, 5 cases of OSCC, and 7 cases of the controls. RESULTS p38MAPK was over-expressed in the lamina propria, but lowly expressed in the epithelium in OLP group. Phospho-p38MAPK was lower expressed in OLP group than in OSCC and control groups.NF-κB was found over-expressed in the lamina propria in OLP group.p38MAPK was found expressed in all the samples in the 3 groups. The expression of phospho-p38MAPK was observed in 8 (8/11) OLP samples, 5 (5/5) OSCC samples and 4 (4/7) controls by Western blotting, but no significant differences were found within the 3 groups. CONCLUSION p38MAPK can be detected in normal oral mucosa, OLP and OSCC. Phospho-p38MAPK may be related to the onset and progression of OSCC. The role of p38MAPK in OLP is yet to be revealed.

Abstract
Two pairs of positive-and negative-parity doublet bands together with eight strong electric dipole transitions linking their yrast positive- and negative-parity bands have been identified in ^{78}Br. They are interpreted as multiple chiral doublet bands with octupole correlations, which is supported by the microscopic multidimensionally-constrained covariant density functional theory and triaxial particle rotor model calculations. This observation reports the first example of chiral geometry in octupole soft nuclei.

Abstract
Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is an inflammatory autoimmune disease that causes secretory dysfunction of the salivary glands. It has been reported that proinflammatory cytokine interleukin-17 (IL-17) was elevated and tight junction (TJ) integrity disrupted in minor salivary glands from SS patients. However, whether the elevated IL-17 in SS affects TJ integrity and thereby alters the function of salivary gland is unknown. Here, by using nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice as SS model, we found that the stimulated salivary flow rate was significantly decreased in NOD mice. Lymphocyte infiltration was mainly observed in submandibular glands (SMGs), but not parotid glands (PGs), of NOD mice. IL-17 was significantly increased and mainly located in lymphocytic-infiltrating regions in SMGs but not detectable in PGs of NOD mice. Meanwhile, the epithelial barrier function was disrupted, as evidenced by an increased paracellular tracer clearance and an enlarged acinar TJ width in SMGs of NOD mice. Furthermore, claudin-1 and -3 were elevated especially at the basolateral membranes, whereas claudin-4, occludin, and zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) were reduced in SMGs of NOD mice. Moreover, occludin and ZO-1 were dispersed into cytoplasm in SMGs of NOD mice. However, no change in the expression and distribution of TJ proteins was found in PGs. In vitro, IL-17 significantly decreased the levels and apical staining of claudin-4 and ZO-1 proteins in the cultured SMG tissues, as well as claudin-1, occludin, and ZO-1 in PG tissues. Moreover, IL-17 activated the phosphorylation of IκBα and p65 in SMG cells, whereas pretreatment with NF-κB inhibitor pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate suppressed the IL-17-induced downregulation of claudin-4 and ZO-1 in SMG tissues. Taken together, these findings indicate that IL-17 derived from infiltrating lymphocyte impairs the integrity of TJ barrier through NF-κB signaling pathway, and thus might contribute to salivary gland dysfunction in SS.

Abstract
The objective of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of miconazole for treating oral candidiasis. Twelve electronic databases were searched for randomized controlled trials evaluating treatments for oral candidiasis and complemented by hand searching. The clinical and mycological outcomes, as well as adverse effects, were set as the primary outcome criteria. Seventeen trials were included in this review. Most studies were considered to have a high or moderate level of bias. Miconazole was more effective than nystatin for thrush. For HIV-infected patients, there was no significant difference in the efficacy between miconazole and other antifungals. For denture wearers, microwave therapy was significantly better than miconazole. No significant difference was found in the safety evaluation between miconazole and other treatments. The relapse rate of miconazole oral gel may be lower than that of other formulations. This systematic review and meta-analysis indicated that miconazole may be an optional choice for thrush. Microwave therapy could be an effective adjunct treatment for denture stomatitis. Miconazole oral gel may be more effective than other formulations with regard to long-term results. However, future studies that are adequately powered, large-scale, and well-designed are needed to provide higher-quality evidence for the management of oral candidiasis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An early differentiation of malignant from benign solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) is essential for management and prognosis of lung cancer. OBJECTIVES Here we investigated whether measurement of circulating sex hormones could be useful for an early detection of malignancy among patients with SPNs. METHODS We recruited 47 patients with malignant SPNs 45 patients with benign SPNs, and 32 healthy persons. Testosterone, estradiol, and progesterone were measured. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) as well as TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-6 were also measured. RESULTS We found that sex hormones were decreased significantly in patients with malignant SPNs, as compared to patients with benign SPNs and healthy controls (P<0.05). Sex hormones levels showed a trend to decline in patients with benign SPNs as compared to normal controls, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). CEA levels were only abnormally elevated in eight patients with lung adenocarcinoma. The inflammatory cytokines were remarkably higher in both patients than in normal controls. However, there was no statistical difference in these cytokines among patients. CONCLUSIONS The reduced sex hormones levels seemed to be uniquely associated with lung cancer. Therefore, measurement of sex hormones may have clinical potential in the diagnosis of malignancy in patients with SPNs.

Abstract
In a recent breakup-reaction experiment using a Be12 beam at 29 MeV/nucleon, the 0+ band head of the expected He4+He8 molecular rotation was clearly identified at about 10.3 MeV, from which a large monopole matrix element of 7.0±1.0 fm2 and a large cluster-decay width were determined for the first time. These findings support the picture of strong clustering in Be12, which has been a subject of intense investigations over the past decade. The results were obtained thanks to a specially arranged detection system around zero degrees, which is essential in determining the newly emphasized monopole strengths to signal the cluster formation in a nucleus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the antifungal ability of seven over-the-counter mouthwashes against planktonic and sessile Candida albicans and Candida krusei. MATERIALS AND METHODS The seven mouthwashes studied were Listerine, compound chlorhexidine solution, povidone iodine solution (PV-I), cetylpyridinium chloride solution, Colgate Plax, Crest Prohealth Mouthwash, and NaHCO3 . The antifungal ability of each mouthwash against ATCC90028, ATCC6258, and 10 clinical C. albicans isolates was tested using disk diffusion tests, the broth microdilution method, and biofilm testing with two different XTT-reduction assays. Fluconazole was used as a positive control, and the experiments were performed in triplicate. RESULTS Chlorhexidine and cetylpyridinium chloride had the largest inhibition zones for ATCC90028 and ATCC6258 (18.6 ± 3.5 and 19 ± 1.6 mm, respectively). Cetylpyridinium chloride was the most effective at inhibiting all of the planktonic C. albicans strains and ATCC6258 with the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). As the maturity of the biofilms increased, the change in sessile cell MIC of the mouthwashes was much smaller than that of fluconazole. For the mature biofilms, chlorhexidine, PV-I, and cetylpyridinium chloride produced the greatest reductions in metabolism (60-80%). CONCLUSION Most of these seven mouthwashes had significant antifungal activity for both planktonic and sessile Candida species.

Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is an inducer of cancer cell death that holds promise in cancer therapy. Cancer cells are more susceptible than normal cells to the cell-death-inducing effects of TRAIL. However, a variety of cancer cells are resistant to TRAIL through complex mechanisms. Here, we investigate the effects of inhibition of eukaryotic initiation factor 2 subunit α (eIF2α) dephosphorylation on TRAIL-induced apoptosis in hepatoma cells. Treatment of hepatoma cells with salubrinal, an inhibitor of eIF2α dephosphorylation, enhances TRAIL-induced eIF2α phosphorylation, CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP) expression and caspase activation. Salubrinal enhances TRAIL-induced apoptosis, which could be abrogated by caspase inhibitor. Overexpression of phosphomimetic eIF2α (S51D) enhances TRAIL-induced CHOP expression, caspase 7 and PARP cleavage and apoptosis. By contrast, overexpression of phosphodeficient eIF2α (S51A) abrogates the stimulation of TRAIL-induced apoptosis by salubrinal. Moreover, knockdown of growth arrest and DNA damage-inducible protein 34 (GADD34), which recruits protein phosphatase 1 to dephosphorylate eIF2α, enhances TRAIL-induced eIF2α phosphorylation, CHOP expression, caspase activation and apoptosis. Furthermore, the sensitization of hepatoma cells to TRAIL by salubrinal is dependent on CHOP. Knockdown of CHOP abrogates the stimulation of TRAIL-induced caspase activation and apoptosis by salubrinal. Combination of salubrinal and TRAIL leads to increased expression of Bim, a CHOP-regulated proapoptotic protein. Bim knockdown blunts the stimulatory effect of salubrinal on TRAIL-induced apoptosis. Collectively, these findings suggest that inhibition of eIF2α dephosphorylation may lead to synthetic lethality in TRAIL-treated hepatoma cells.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate a possible role of adiponectin in the pathogenesis of autoimmune sialoadenitis in non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse model of Sjögren's syndrome. MATERIALS AND METHODS Expression of adiponectin and its receptors (AdipoR1/2) was detected by PCR, immunoblotting, or immunofluorescence. The level of adiponectin was quantified by ELISA. Adiponectin-related signaling molecules and pro-inflammatory cytokines were examined by PCR or immunoblotting. Apoptosis was evaluated by TUNEL staining, flow cytometry, and caspase 3 activation. RESULTS Adiponectin and AdipoR1/2 mRNA and protein were expressed in submandibular glands. Adiponectin immunostaining was widely diffused in the cytoplasm of acinar and ductal cells. AdipoR1 was mainly distributed in acinar cytoplasm, while AdipoR2 was predominantly located at acinar cell membrane. Submandibular adiponectin levels were reduced during the progression of autoimmune sialoadenitis in 7-, 14-, and 21-week-old NOD mice, while AdipoR1/2 levels were unchanged. The levels of phosphorylated adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase, extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2, and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase were decreased, while interferon (IFN)-γ and glandular apoptosis were temporally increased at all time points. Moreover, exogenous adiponectin supplement inhibited, whereas neutralizing endogenous adiponectin by its antibody promoted IFN-γ-induced apoptosis and caspase 3 activation in cultured submandibular acinar cells. CONCLUSIONS Adiponectin plays a protective role on submandibular cells. Decreased adiponectin might promote glandular destruction in autoimmune sialoadenitis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder of unknown cause. Recent studies have shown that antimuscarinic acetylcholine type 3 receptor (M3R) antibodies can be detected in patients with Sjögren's syndrome (SS), but little is known about the diagnostic value of this antibody. OBJECTIVES To assess the clinical correlations of anti-M3R (muscarinic acetylcholine receptor type 3) polypeptide (M3RP205-220) antibodies in saliva from patients of primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). METHODS Serum samples and unstimulated mixed saliva from 100 patients with SS were collected and examined. Their mean (SD) age was 54.2 (13.4) years, and the mean (SD) disease duration was 6.2 (3.8) years. Serum samples from 40 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 40 with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and 60 healthy subjects were analysed as controls. All the patients with SS were carefully evaluated according to European and American criteria. A circular M3RP205-220 peptide sequence was synthesized using solid-phase techniques on an applied biosytems peptide synthesizer. The correlation between anti-M3RP205-220 antibodies and clinical manifestations of pSS was analysed. RESULTS The IgG of anti-M3RP205-220 antibodies was present in 69% of patients with pSS, 27.5% with SLE, 22.5% with RA, and 23.3% of normal saliva donors. The prevalence of anti-M3RP205-220 antibodies in pSS was significantly higher than in SLE, RA, and normal controls. The specificity of anti-M3RP205-220 antibodies in pSS was 75%. The salivary flow rate in the group positive for anti-M3RP205-220 was 436 μl/10 min, compared to a rate of 658 μl/10 min for the negative group (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS The anti-M3RP205-220 antibody was detected in most patients with pSS. The presence of the antibody was closely associated with the salivary flow rate. This indicated that it may act as an autoantigen, with a role in the pathogenesis of pSS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the expressions of Fas, NF-kappaB, and vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) in infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast and provide scientific basis for early diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS The immunohistochemical technique (SP method) was used to detect expression of Fas, NF-kappaB, and VEGF-C in 137 cases of breast-infiltrating ductal carcinoma, 17 cases of intraductal carcinoma of the breast, and 20 cases of normal breast tissues, and analyze its relationship with clinicopathologic factors of breast cancer and patients' survival rate, as well as the correlation among their expression, clinicopathologic factors, and survival rate. RESULTS Fas expression was less commonly detected in infiltrating ductal carcinoma than in intraductal carcinoma and normal tissue. In contrast, both NF-kappaB and VEGF-C were more commonly detected in infiltrating ductal carcinoma than in intraductal carcinoma and normal tissue. Fas expression was correlated with tumor size, histological grade, and clinicopathological stage; NF-kappaB expression was correlated with tumor size, histological grade, lymph node metastasis; VEGF-C expression was correlated with lymph node metastasis and clinical and pathological stages of breast cancer (p < or = 0.05). Spearman rank correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between Fas expression and both NF-kappaB and VEGF-C expression in infiltrating breast cancer (p < 0.05) Additionally, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis demonstrated that five-year survival was higher for patients with Fas-positive samples but lower for those with VEGF-C-positive samples. CONCLUSIONS The present results demonstrate that Fas and NF-B play a role in the initiation and development of breast cancer, while VEGF-C appears to promote lymph node metastasis. Thus, these proteins may serve as useful diagnostic and prognostic markers of invasive breast cancer.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The present study was designed to assess the function of tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) expression in allergic rhinitis. METHODS Age-matched t-PA gene knock out (t-PA(-/-)) and wild type (WT) mice were sensitised four times, and then challenged for six weeks with ovalbumin. The controls were treated with saline instead of ovalbumin. The structural change in the nasal mucosa was investigated with haematoxylin and eosin stain and van Gieson staining. u-PA (urokinase-type plasminogen activator) and PAI-1 (plasminogen activator inhibitor) gene expression were measured by real time PCR. Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) expression was tested with Western blotting and with real time PCR. RESULTS After ovalbumin challenge for six weeks, compared with the WT group, t-PA depletion increased collagen deposition and gland hyperplasia. u-PA and PAI-1 gene expression increased both in t-PA(-/-) and in WT mice after ovalbumin treatment. MMP-9 expression decreased greatly after ovalbumin challenge in t-PA(-/-) mice. CONCLUSION t-PA affects the nasal mucosa matrix reconstruction process in allergic rhinitis, with which MMP-9 is involved.

Abstract
Biological clocks are intrinsic time-keeping systems that regulate behavior and physiological functions in most living organisms. Previous works suggested a possible link between the endogenous circadian clock and cell cycle regulation. The mammalian Period-2 gene (mPer2), an important component of the circadian clock mechanism, is recently demonstrated to play an important role in repressing tumor growth. In this study, we found that polyethylenimine-mediated intratumoral Per2 gene delivery had significant antitumor effects in C57BL/6 mice transplanted with Lewis lung carcinoma. Our data illustrated that the Per2 gene delivery inhibited PCNA expression and induced apoptosis. Our results support the emerging role of the circadian clock in critical aspects of tumorigenesis. These findings underscore the potential use of Per2 gene delivery as a novel therapeutic intervention for the treatment of malignant tumors.

Abstract
Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is an autosomal-dominant bleeding disorder and has two variants, HHT1 and HHT2, associated with mutations in the ENG and ALK-1 genes, respectively. We identified one Chinese HHT2 family to investigate the pathogenic gene and its possible mechanism of action by mutation screening and functional study. One substitution mutation (1717C>T) in exon 10 of the ALK-1 was found by sequencing of all exons of ENG and ALK-1 and caused a R479X mutation in the ALK-1 protein. ALK-1 mRNA and plasma thrombomodulin were measured by real-time quantitative PCR and ELISA, respectively. There was no significant difference in the expression levels of ALK-1 mRNA between patients and healthy individuals. A significantly higher level of thrombomodulin was found in HHT patients. These findings indicate that the mutation causes truncation of the ALK-1 protein at the post-transcriptional level; the plasma thrombomodulin may provide an easy diagnostic indicator in HHT patients.

Abstract
Ediacaran assemblages immediately predate the Cambrian explosion of metazoans and should have played a crucial role in this radiation. Their wider relationships, however, have remained refractory and difficult to integrate with early metazoan phylogeny. Here, we describe a frondlike fossil, Stromatoveris (S. psygmoglena sp. nov.), from the Lower Cambrian Chengjiang Lagerstätte (Yunnan, China) that is strikingly similar to Ediacaran vendobionts. The exquisite preservation reveals closely spaced branches, probably ciliated, that appear to represent precursors of the diagnostic comb rows of ctenophores. Therefore, this finding has important implications for the early evolution of this phylum and related diploblasts, some of which independently evolved a frondose habit.

Abstract
Ten alleles with length and nucleotide sequence variations were identified in the regulatory region of human tissue kallikrein gene. This present study aimed to study the polymorphisms of the regulatory region of human tissue kallikrein gene of the Chinese and investigate the relationship of the polymorphisms with essential hypertension. A case-control study was conducted in 200 hypertensive and 200 normotensive subjects of unrelated Chinese Han origin. All subjects were aged from 30 to 70 years and had no history of diabetes mellitus, kidney failure, or thyroid gland disease. The alleles were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and genotyping was performed with allele-specific oligonucleotide analysis (ASO). Data from the essential hypertensive and control subjects were statistically analysed by the Student's t-test and chi2-test. The age- and gender-matching of the groups were accurate. The case group and the control group were in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium at this locus (cases, P=0.313; control subjects, P=0.457). There were nine alleles among the case and control groups, and the allele frequencies were found to be significantly different between cases and controls (chi2=25.701, P<0.001). The genotype frequencies were also significantly different (chi2=70.100, P<0.001) between these two groups. In conclusion, there are polymorphisms in the regulatory region of human tissue kallikrein gene in the Chinese Han people. Differences in both allele frequencies and genotype frequencies between these two groups have provided evidence towards the association of hypertension with the polymorphisms in this studied site.

Abstract
High glucose (HG) stimulates glomerular mesangial cell (MC) expression of extracellular matrix, a process involving protein kinase C (PKC) isozymes and enhanced signaling by autocrine peptides such as endothelin-1 (ET-1). The purpose of this study was to identify the specific PKC isozymes mediating the effects of HG on MC extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase (ERK1/2) signaling and alpha1(IV) collagen expression in response to ET-1. HG (30 mmol/l for 72 h) enhanced ET-1-stimulated alpha1(IV) collagen mRNA expression from 1.2 +/- 0.1-fold to 1.9 +/- 0.2-fold (P < 0.05 vs. normal glucose [NG] + ET-1), and the effect was significantly reduced by Calphostin C or the MEK (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase) inhibitor PD98059. In transiently transfected MCs, dominant-negative (DN)-PKC-delta, -epsilon, or -zeta inhibited ET-1 activation of ERK1/2. Likewise, downstream of ERK1/2, ET-1 stimulated Elk-1-driven GAL4 luciferase activity to 11 +/- 1-fold (P < 0.002 vs. NG + ET-1) in HG, and DN-PKC-delta, -epsilon, or -zeta attenuated this response to NG levels. HG enhanced ET-1-stimulated intracellular alpha1(IV) collagen protein expression, assessed by confocal immunofluorescence imaging, showed that individual DN-PKC-delta, -epsilon, -zeta, as well as DN-PKC-alpha and -beta, attenuated the response. Thus, HG-enhanced ET-1 stimulation of alpha1(IV) collagen expression requires PKC-delta, -epsilon, and -zeta to act through an ERK1/2-dependent pathway and via PKC-alpha and -beta, which are independent of ERK1/2.
