Abstract
Highly stable and multicolor photoluminescent (PL) quantum dots (QDs) have attracted widespread attention as ideal probe materials in the field of in vitro diagnostics (IVD), especially the fluorescence-linked immunosorbent assay (FLISA), due to their advantages of high-throughput, high stability, and high sensitivity. However, the size of QDs as fluorescent probes have significant effects on antigen-antibody performance. Therefore, it is critical to design suitable QDs for obtain excellent quantitative detection-based biosensors. In this paper, we prepared different sizes of aqueous QDs (30 nm, 116 nm, 219 nm, and 320 nm) as fluorescent probes to optimize the competitive FLISA platform. The SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody (NTAB) assay was used as an example, and it was found that the size of the QDs has a significant impact on the antigen-antibody binding efficiency and detection sensitivity in competitive FLISA platform. The results showed that these QD nanobeads (QBs, ∼219 nm) could be used as a labeled probe for competitive FLISA, with half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 1.34 ng/mL and limit of detection (LOD) of 0.21 pg/mL for NTAB detection. More importantly, the results showed good specificity and accuracy, and the QB219 probe was able to efficiently bind NTAB without interference from other substances in the serum. Given the above advantages, the nanoprobe material (∼200 nm) offers considerable potential as a competitive FLISA platform in the field of IVD.

[Therapeutic strategy for totally thoracoscopic repeat mitral valve surgery under moderate hypothermia-induced ventricular fibrillation]. Abstract
Objective: To examine the therapeutic strategy and its impacting factors by analyzing the perioperative outcomes of total thoracoscopic repeat mitral valve surgery under moderate hypothermia-induced ventricular fibrillation with cardiopulmonary bypass. Methods: This study is a retrospective case series. Totally 63 patients who underwent repeat mitral valve surgery by the same surgeon from January 2021 to December 2023 in Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, the First Medical Center of People's Liberation Army General Hospital were retrospectively enrolled. There were 28 males and 35 females with an age of (58.3±15.9) years (range: 13 to 84 years). Surgery was performed using a totally thoracoscopic approach under moderate hypothermia-induced ventricular fibrillation. Mitral valvuloplasty was completed in 32 cases and mitral valve replacement in 31 cases. Preoperative baseline data and perioperative outcomes of the patients were collected and Logistic regression was used to analyze independent influencing factors of premature ventricular contractions in the early postoperative period. Results: The intraoperative cardiopulmonary bypass time was (191.5±50.9) minutes (range: 95 to 286 minutes), and the hypothermic ventricular fibrillation time was (99.0±39.8) minutes (range: 34 to 203 minutes). The anal temperature before the start of cardiopulmonary bypass was (36.3±0.5) ℃ (range: 35.2 to 38.0 ℃), the lowest intraoperative anal temperature was (27.3±1.3) ℃(range: 23.7 to 30.1 ℃), and the anal temperature at the time of the cessation of cardiopulmonary bypass was (36.3±0.4) ℃ (range: 35.2 to 37.0 ℃), and excessive rewarming was observed in 33 cases. Six cases applied the artificial heart assist device. Seventeen cases developed premature ventricular contractions in the early postoperative period. Two cases developed neurologic complications. Five cases developed respiratory complications. One case developed urological systemic complications. Six cases were mechanically ventilated for more than 3 days, and the duration of ICU stay in 16 cases was more than 3 days and the postoperative discharge time of (M(IQR)) 8.0 (3.5) days (range: 3 to 26 days). Two cases died or were discharged voluntarily. Logistic regression results showed that persistent preoperative atrial fibrillation (OR=11.424, 95%CI: 1.477 to 144.564, P=0.033) and excessive rewarming (OR=15.249, 95%CI: 1.357 to 279.571, P=0.038) were independent risk factors for the appearance of premature ventricular contractions in the early postoperative period. Conclusions: The technique of total thoracoscopic surgery under induced moderate hypothermic ventricular fibrillation with cardiopulmonary bypass could be applied to repeated mitral valve surgeries with less trauma and faster recovery. Persistent preoperative atrial fibrillation and excessive rewarming are independent risk factors for the occurrence of premature ventricular contractions in the early postoperative period.

Abstract
As potential low-cost alternatives of traditional bulk HgCdTe crystals, HgTe colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) synthesized through reactions between HgCl2 and trioctylphosphine-telluride in hot oleylamine have shown promising performances in mid-wave infrared photodetectors. Tetrapodic or tetrahedral HgTe CQDs have been obtained by tuning the reaction conditions such as temperature, reaction time, concentrations, and ratios of the two precursors. However, the principles governing the growth dynamics and the mechanism behind the transitions between tetrapodic and tetrahedral HgTe CQDs have not been sufficiently understood. In this work, synthesis of HgTe CQDs through bilateral injection is introduced to study the growth mechanism. It suggests that tetrahedral HgTe CQDs usually result from the breaks of tetrapodic HgTe CQDs after their legs grow thick enough. The fundamental factor determining whether the growth makes their legs longer or thicker is the effective concentration of the Te precursor during the growth, rather than temperature, Hg-rich environment, or reactivity of precursors. A chemical model is proposed to illustrate the principles governing the growth dynamics, which provides valuable guidelines for tuning the material properties of HgTe CQDs according to the needs of applications.

Abstract
Traditional semiconductor quantum dots of groups II-VI are key ingredients of next-generation display technology. Yet, the majority of them contain toxic heavy-metal elements, thus calling for alternative light-emitting materials. Herein, we have explored three novel categories of multicomponent compounds, namely, tetragonal II-III2-VI4 porous ternary compounds, cubic I2-II3-VI4 ternary compounds, and cubic I-II-III3-V4 quaternary compounds. This is achieved by judicious introduction of a "super atom" perspective and concurrently varying the solid-state lattice packing of involved super atoms or the population of surrounding counter cations. Based on first-principles calculations of 392 candidate materials with designed crystal structures, 53 highly stable materials have been screened. Strikingly, 34 of them are direct-bandgap semiconductors with emitting wavelengths covering the near-infrared and visible-light regions. This work provides a comprehensive database of highly efficient light-emitting materials, which may be of interest for a broad field of optoelectronic applications.

Abstract
Nontoxic, highly sensitive InP quantum dot (QD) fluorescent immunoassay probes are promising biomedical detection modalities due to their unique properties. However, InP-based QDs are prone to surface oxidation, and the stability of InP QD-based probes in biocompatible environments remains a crucial challenge. Although the thick shell can provide some protection during the phase transfer process of hydrophobic QDs, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is generally decreased because of the contradiction between lattice stress relaxation and thick shell growth. Herein, we developed thick-shell InP-based core/shell QDs by inserting a ZnSeS alloy layer. The ternary ZnSeS intermediate shell could effectively facilitate lattice stress relaxation and passivate the defect states. The synthesized InP/ZnSe/ZnSeS/ZnS core/alloy shell/shell QDs (CAS-InP QDs) with nanostructure tailoring revealed a larger size, high PLQY (90%), and high optical stability. After amphiphilic polymer encapsulation, the aqueous CAS-InP QDs presented almost constant fluorescence attenuation and stable PL intensity under different temperatures, UV radiation, and pH solutions. The CAS-InP QDs were excellent labels of the fluorescence-linked immunosorbent assay (FLISA) for detecting C-reactive protein (CRP). The biotin-streptavidin (Bio-SA) system was first introduced in the FLISA to further improve the sensitivity, and the CAS-InP QDs-based SA-Bio sandwich FLISA realized the detection of CRP with an impressive limit of detection (LOD) of 0.83 ng/mL. It is believed that the stable and sensitive InP QD fluorescent probes will drive the rapid development of future eco-friendly, cost-effective, and sensitive in vitro diagnostic kits.

Abstract
The excellent optical properties of quantum dots (QDs) make them as an ideal fluorescent probe for multiplexed detection, however, the interference between different emission spectra, the dependence of excitation wavelengths, and the sharp decrease of quantum yield (QY) during surface modification are issues that cannot be ignored. Herein, a dual protection scheme of polymer and silica was proposed to prepare high-quality three-color QDs nanobeads using QDs with different ligands. In comparison with single-core QDs, the fluorescence signal of the prepared QD nanobeads (QBs) is increased by more than 1,000 times and has better stability. Considering the excitation efficiency of QDs, we tailor three-color QBs as fluorescent probes based on fluorescence-linked immunosorbent assays (tQBs-FLISA) to detect multiple inflammatory biomarkers simultaneously with tunable detection ranges. This resulted in highly sensitive detection of three inflammatory biomarkers in comparison to the single-core QD-FLISA, the sensitivities of C-reactive protein (CRP), serum amyloid A (SAA), and procalcitonin (PCT) were increased by 16-fold, 19-fold, and 5-fold, respectively, to 0.48 ng/mL, 0.42 ng/mL, and 10 pg/mL. Furthermore, the tQBs-FLISA showed good accuracy without interference from common serum factors. In this strategy, a three-color QBs suitable for multilevel sensitivity and tunable detection range was tailored using the versatile polymer and silica dual protection method, building high-performance immunosensor for in vitro diagnostics (IVD).

Abstract
High-sensitivity detection of biomarkers is of great significance to improve the accuracy of disease diagnosis and the rate of occult disease diagnosis. Using a substrate modification and two-color quantum dot (QD) nanobeads (QBs), we have developed a dual fluorescence signal-enhancement immunosensor for sensitive, simultaneous detection of interleukin 6 (IL-6) and procalcitonin (PCT) at low volumes (∼20 μL). First, the QBs compatible with QDs with different surface ligands were prepared by optimizing surfactants based on the microemulsion method. Through the use of a fluorescence-linked immunosorbent assay (FLISA), the feasibility of a dual signal-enhancement immunosensor was verified, and a 5-fold enhancement of fluorescence intensity was achieved after the directional coating of the antibodies on sulfhydryl functionalization (-SH) substrates and the preparation of QBs by using a polymer and silica double-protection method. Next, a simple polydimethylsiloxane (HS-PDMS) immunosensor with a low volume consumption was prepared. Under optimal conditions, we achieved the simultaneous detection of IL-6 and PCT with a linear range of 0.05-50 ng/mL, and the limit of detection (LOD) was 24 and 32 pg/mL, respectively. The result is comparable to two-color QBs-FLISA with a sulfhydryl microplate, even though only 20% of its volume was used. Thus, the dual fluorescence signal-enhancement HS-PDMS immunosensor offers the capability of early microvolume diagnosis of diseases, while the detection of inflammatory factors is clinically important for assisting disease diagnosis and determining disease progression.

Abstract
Low-toxicity InP-based quantum dots (QDs) exhibit potential for replacing Cd/Pb-containing QDs in the visible and near-infrared regions. Despite advancements, further improvement relies on synthesizing homogeneous InP QDs to achieve a high color purity. In a commonly employed two-step "seed-mediated" synthetic approach, we demonstrate the high sensitivity of InP seed sizes and size distribution to the quantities of trioctylphosphine (TOP) and tris(trimethylsilyl)phosphine [(TMS)3P], attributed to the process of "self-focusing of size distribution" and enhanced reactivity of In-oleate through coordination with TOP. During growth, the processes of size focusing and defocusing are modulated by the accumulation of oleic acid and TOP molecules, as well as the amount of (TMS)3P in the growth precursor, which may relate to the dissolution process of InP magic size clusters. Through precise control, the best valley/depth ratio of InP QDs was 0.52 at the first absorption peak at 571 nm, resulting in luminescence with a full width at half-maximum of 35 at 620 nm with an absolute photoluminescence quantum yield around 90% after heteroepitaxial growth with ZnSe and ZnS shells.

Abstract
The efficiency and stability of red and green quantum-dot light-emitting diodes have already met the requirements for commercialization in displays. However, the poor stability of the blue ones, particularly pure blue color, is hindering the commercialization of full-color quantum-dot light-emitting diode technology. Severe hole accumulation at the blue quantum-dot/hole-transport layer interface makes the hole-transport layer prone to oxidation, limiting the device operational lifetime. Here, we propose inserting an anti-oxidation layer (poly(p-phenylene benzobisoxazole)) between this interface to take in some holes from the hole-transport layer, which mitigates the oxidation-induced device degradation, enabling a T50 (time for the luminance decreasing by 50%) of more than 41,000 h with an initial brightness of 100 cd m-2 in pure blue devices. Meanwhile, the inserted transition layer facilitates hole injection and helps reduce electron leakage, leading to a peak external quantum efficiency of 23%.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The global prevalence of osteoporosis is rising, yet it is unclear whether people with osteoporosis have a higher risk of depression than those without osteoporosis. STUDY DESIGN A cross-sectional study. METHODS We used nationally representative data from the US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) in 2005-2006, 2007-2008, 2009-2010, 2013-2014, and 2017-2020. The diagnosis of osteoporosis was based on the bone mineral density of the femoral neck measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Depression was assessed by the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), with a score ≥5 as depressive symptoms and a score ≥10 as probable depression. We used logistic regression models to evaluate the association between osteoporosis and depressive symptoms and probable depression. RESULTS We included 11,603 adults (aged 50 years and older, 52.3% male) and observed 5.2% of them had osteoporosis. 31.9% of these osteoporotic people had depressive symptoms, and 10.0% had probable depression. Compared to participants without osteoporosis, those with osteoporosis were 1.73 times more likely to experience depressive symptoms (odds ratio [OR] = 1.73, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.20-2.50) and 1.91 times more likely to experience probable depression (OR = 1.91, 95% CI 1.02-3.59), after adjusting for sex, age, race/ethnicity, education, marital status, family income, body mass index, smoking, physical activity, and alcohol abuse. Moderate-to-vigorous activities mediated the associations between osteoporosis and depression and depressive symptoms. CONCLUSIONS Osteoporosis is an independent risk factor for depression. This study highlights the need to evaluate the mental well-being of patients with osteoporosis in clinical and primary health care.

Abstract
Solution-processed and efficient yellow quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) are considered key optoelectronic devices for lighting, display, and signal indication. However, limited synthesis routes for yellow quantum dots (QDs), combined with inferior stress-relaxation of the core-shell interface, pose challenges to their commercialization. Herein, a nanostructure tailoring strategy for high-quality yellow CdZnSe/ZnSe/ZnS core/shell QDs using a "stepwise high-temperature nucleation-shell growth" method is introduced. The synthesized CdZnSe-based QDs effectively smoothed the release stress of the core-shell interface and revealed a near-unit photoluminescence quantum yield, with nonblinking behavior and matched energy level, which accelerated radiative recombination and charge injection balance for device operation. Consequently, the yellow CdZnSe-based QLEDs exhibited a peak external quantum efficiency of 23.7%, a maximum luminance of 686 050 cd m-2 , and a current efficiency of 103.2 cd A-1 , along with an operating half-lifetime of 428 523 h at 100 cd m-2 . To the best of the knowledge, the luminance and operational stability of the device are found to be the highest values reported for yellow LEDs. Moreover, devices with electroluminescence (EL) peaks at 570-605 nm exhibited excellent EQEs, surpassing 20%. The work is expected to significantly push the development of RGBY-based display panels and white LEDs.

Abstract
Understanding the influence of the inner shell on fluorescence blinking and exciton dynamics is essential to promote the optical performances of InP-based quantum dots (QDs). Here, the fluorescence blinking, exciton dynamics, second-order correlation function g2(τ), and ultrafast carrier dynamics of InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs regulated by the inner ZnSe shell thickness varying from 2 to 7 monolayers (MLs) were systematically investigated. With an inner ZnSe shell thickness of 5 MLs, the photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY) can reach 98% due to the suppressed blinking and increased probability of multiphoton emission. The exciton dynamics of InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs with different inner shells indicates that two decay components of neural excitons and charged trions are competitive to affect the photon emission behavior. The probability density distributions of the ON and OFF state duration in the blinking traces demonstrate an effective manipulation of the inner ZnSe shell in the non-radiative processes via defect passivation. Accordingly, the radiative recombination dominates the exciton deactivation and the non-radiative Auger recombination rate is remarkably reduced, leading to a QY close to unity and a high PL stability for InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs with 5 MLs of the ZnSe shell. These results provide insights into the photophysical mechanism of InP-based QDs and are significant for developing novel semiconductor PL core/shell QDs.

Abstract
Minimizing heat accumulation is essential to prolonging the operational lifetime of quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QD-LEDs). Reducing heat generation at the source is the ideal solution, which requires high brightness and quantum efficiency at low driving voltages. Here we propose to enhance the brightness of QD-LEDs at low driving voltages by using a monolayer of large QDs to reduce the packing number in the emitting layer. This strategy allows us to achieve a higher charge population per QD for a given number of charges without charge leakage, enabling enhanced quasi-Fermi-level splitting and brightness at low driving voltage. Due to the minimized heat generation, these LEDs show a high power conversion efficiency of 23% and a T95 operation lifetime (the time for the luminance to decrease to 95% of the initial value) of more than 48,000 h at 1,000 cd m-2.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) The optimization of energy layer distributions is crucial for efficient proton ARC therapy: on one hand, a sufficient number of energy layers is needed to ensure the plan quality; on the other hand, an excess number of energy jumps can substantially slow down the treatment delivery. This work will develop a new treatment plan optimization method with direct minimization of number of energy jumps (NEJ), which will be shown to outperform state-of-the-art methods in both plan quality and delivery efficiency. MATERIALS/METHODS The proposed method jointly optimizes the plan quality and minimizes the NEJ. To minimize NEJ, (1) the proton spots x is summed per energy layer to form the energy vector y; (2) y is binarized via sigmoid transform into y1; (3) y1 is multiplied with a predefined energy order vector via dot product into y2; (4) y2 is filtered through the finite-differencing kernel into y3 in order to identify NEJ; (5) only the NEJ of y3 is penalized, while x is optimized for plan quality. The solution algorithm to this new method is based on iterative convex relaxation. RESULTS The new method is validated in comparison with state-of-the-art methods called energy sequencing (ES) method and energy matrix (EM) method. In terms of delivery efficiency, the new method had fewer NEJ, less energy switching time, and generally less total delivery time. In terms of plan quality, the new method had smaller optimization objective values, lower normal tissue dose, and generally better target coverage. A head-and-neck case is provided in the table with the following dosimetric parameters: planning objective value F; conformity index CI; homogeneity index HI; mean dose of larynx DOAR; mean body dose Dbody; the unit of dose is Gy. CONCLUSION We have developed a new treatment plan optimization method with direct minimization of NEJ, and demonstrated that this new method outperformed state-of-the-art methods (ES and EM) in both plan quality and delivery efficiency.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the distribution characteristics of plasma renin concentration (PRC) in patients with aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) and its impact on diagnosis. Methods: In this retrospective case series, clinical data from 200 patients with APA (80 men and 120 women; mean age 45.6 years) in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from November 2013 to January 2022 were evaluated. PRC was determined by automated chemiluminescence immunoassay. The distribution characteristics of PRC were analyzed, and 8.2 mU/L was used as the low renin cutoff to evaluate whether renin was suppressed. Results: The median PRC was 1.6 mU/L (range, 0.4-41.5 mU/L). There were 116 patients with APA with PRC of ≤2 mU/L, 41 patients with 2<PRC≤4 mU/L. PRC was not suppressed (PRC>8.2 mU/L) in 8.0% (16/200) of the patients with APA. And PRC was not suppressed in 2.5% (5/200) of the patients with APA, resulting in a primary aldosteronism negative screening outcome. Conclusions: Although most patients with APA have low PRC, there are a small number (8%) of patients whose PRC has not been fully suppressed, which can lead to missed diagnoses during primary aldosteronism screening. While primary aldosteronism is highly suspected, further investigations are required to determine the diagnosis, even if PRC is not fully suppressed at screening.

Abstract
Quantum dot (QD) based light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) hold great promise for next-generation lighting and displays. In order to reach a wide color gamut, deep red QLEDs emitting at wavelengths beyond 630 nm are highly desirable but have rarely been reported. Here, we synthesized deep red emitting ZnCdSe/ZnSeS QDs (diameter ∼16 nm) with a continuous gradient bialloyed core-shell structure. These QDs exhibit high quantum yield, excellent stability, and a reduced hole injection barrier. The QLEDs based on ZnCdSe/ZnSeS QDs have an external quantum efficiency above 20% in the luminance range of 200-90000 cd m-2 and a record T95 operation lifetime (time for the luminance to decrease to 95% of its initial value) of more than 20000 h at a luminance of 1000 cd m-2. Furthermore, the ZnCdSe/ZnSeS QLEDs have outstanding shelf stability (>100 days) and cycle stability (>10 cycles). The reported QLEDs with excellent stability and durability can accelerate the pace of QLED applications.

Abstract
Objective: To establish and validate a nomogram-based predictive model for idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA). Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with the collected clinical and biochemical data of patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) including 249 patients with unilateral primary aldosteronism (UPA) and 107 patients with IHA, who were treated at the Department of Endocrinology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from November 2013 to November 2022. Plasma aldosterone concentration (PAC) and plasma renin concentration (PRC) were measured by chemiluminescence. Stepwise regression analysis was applied to select the key predictors of IHA, and a nomogram-based scoring model was developed. The model was validated in another external independent cohort of patients with PA including 62 patients with UPA and 43 patients with IHA, who were diagnosed at the Department of Endocrinology, First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. An independent-sample t test, Mann-Whitney U test, and χ2 test were used for statistical analysis. Results: In the training cohort, in comparison with the UPA group, the IHA group showed a higher serum potassium level [M(Q1, Q3), 3.4 (3.1, 3.8) mmol/L vs. 2.7 (2.1, 3.1) mmol/L] and higher PRC [4.0 (2.1, 8.2) mU/L vs. 1.5 (0.6, 3.4) mU/L] and a lower PAC post-saline infusion test (SIT) [305 (222, 416) pmol/L vs. 720 (443, 1 136) pmol/L] and a lower rate of unilateral adrenal nodules [33.6% (36/107) vs. 81.1% (202/249)]; the intergroup differences in these measurements were statistically significant (all P<0.001). Serum potassium level, PRC, PAC post-SIT, and the rate of unilateral adrenal nodules showed similar performance in the IHA group in the validation cohort. After stepwise regression analysis for all significant variables in the training cohort, a scoring model based on a nomogram was constructed, and the predictive parameters included the rate of unilateral adrenal nodules, serum potassium concentration, PAC post-SIT, and PRC in the standing position. When the total score was ≥14, the model showed a sensitivity of 0.65 and specificity of 0.90 in the training cohort and a sensitivity of 0.56 and specificity of 1.00 in the validation cohort. Conclusion: The nomogram was used to successfully develop a model for prediction of IHA that could facilitate selection of patients with IHA who required medication directly.

Abstract
Mycoplasma hyorhinis (M. hyorhinis) is a commensal of the upper respiratory tract in swine with the typical clinical presentations of arthritis and polyserositis in postweaning pigs. However, it has also been associated with conjunctivitis and otitis media, and recently has been isolated from meningeal swabs and/or cerebrospinal fluid of piglets with neurological signs. The objective of this study is to evaluate the role of M. hyorhinis as a potential pathogen associated with neurological clinical signs and central nervous system lesions in pigs. The presence of M. hyorhinis was evaluated in a clinical outbreak and a six-year retrospective study by qPCR detection, bacteriological culture, in situ hybridization (RNAscope®), and phylogenetic analysis and with immunohistochemistry characterization of the inflammatory response associated with its infection. M. hyorhinis was confirmed by bacteriological culture and within central nervous system lesions by in situ hybridization on animals with neurological signs during the clinical outbreak. The isolates from the brain had close genetic similarities from those previously reported and isolated from eye, lung, or fibrin. Nevertheless, the retrospective study confirmed by qPCR the presence of M. hyorhinis in 9.9% of cases reported with neurological clinical signs and histological lesions of encephalitis or meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology. M. hyorhinis mRNA was confirmed within cerebrum, cerebellum, and choroid plexus lesions by in situ hybridization (RNAscope®) with a positive rate of 72.7%. Here we present strong evidence that M. hyorhinis should be included as a differential etiology in pigs with neurological signs and central nervous system inflammatory lesions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify and verify the interacting protein of α-11 giardin, so as provide the experimental evidence for studies on the α-11 giardin function. METHODS The yeast two-hybrid cDNA library of the Giardia lambia C2 strain and the bait plasmid of α-11 giardin were constructed. All proteins interacting with α-11 giardin were screened using the yeast two-hybrid system. α-11 giardin and all screened potential interacting protein genes were constructed into pBiFc-Vc-155 and pBiFc-Vn-173 plasmids, and co-transfected into the breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231. The interactions between α-11 giardin and interacting proteins were verified using bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC). RESULTS The yeast two-hybrid G. lambia cDNA library which was quantified at 2.715 × 107 colony-forming units (CFU) and the bait plasmid containing α-11 giardin gene without an autoactivation activity were constructed. Following two-round positive screening with the yeast two-hybrid system, two potential proteins interacting with α-11 giardin were screened, including eukaryotic translation initiation factor 5A (EIF5A), calmodulin-dependent protein kinase (CAMKL) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate-specific glutamate dehydrogenase (NADP-GDH), hypothetical protein 1 (GL50803_95880), hypothetical protein 2 (GL50803_87261) and a protein from Giardia canis virus. The α-11 giardin and EIF5A genes were transfected into the pBiFc-Vc-155 and pBiFc-Vn-173 plasmids using BiFC, and the recombinant plasmids pBiFc-Vc-155-α-11 and pBiFc-Vn-173-EIF5A were co-tranfected into MDA-MB-231 cells, which displayed green fluorescence under a microscope, indicating the interaction between α-11 giardin and EIF5A protein in cells. CONCLUSIONS The yeast two-hybrid cDNA library of the G. lambia C2 strain has been successfully constructed, and six potential protein interacting with α-11 giardin have been identified, including EIF5A that interacts with α-11 giardin in cells.

Abstract
The quantum dot up-conversion device combines an infrared photodetector (PD) and a visible quantum-dot light-emitting diode (QLED) to directly convert infrared targets to visible images. However, large efficiency loss is usually induced by the integration of the detecting unit and the emitting unit. One of the important reasons is the performances of the PD and QLED units restraining each other. We regulated the equilibrium between infrared absorption and visible emission by changing the thicknesses of infrared active layers in up-conversion devices. A good balance could be achieved between the absorption of 980 nm incident light and the out-coupling of the 634 nm emission when the active layer thickness is 140 nm, leading to the best performance of the up-conversion device. As more photogenerated carriers are produced with the increase of infrared illumination intensity, the external quantum efficiency (EQE) of the QLED unit in the up-conversion device remains little changed. This suggests the limited amount of photogenerated holes in the PD unit does not limit the EQE of the QLED unit. However, a PD unit with a high ratio of photogenerated holes trapped near the interconnection decreased the EQE in the QLED unit. This work provides new insights into the interplay between the PD and QLED units in up-conversion devices, which is crucial for their further improvements.

Abstract
PbS quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) emitting around 1550 nm promise important applications in optical communications. However, due to insufficient suppression of surface traps for large-size PbS quantum dots (QDs), their performance under large driving current density was not satisfactory. In this work, octanethiol surfactant was added into a PbS QD solution and adsorbed onto the dot surface. As a result, the surface traps and the continuous oxidation of the unprotected (100) facets in PbS QDs were greatly suppressed. Therefore, the PbS QDs with octanethiol doubled their photoluminescence efficiency and showed outstanding stability. The PbS-based QLEDs with benchmark device structure showed a breakthrough high radiance of 18.3 W sr-1 m-2 with >2000 mA/cm2 driving current density. The efficient passivation of surface traps with octanethiol surfactant and the suppressed coupling between excitons and surface states under large working current were the main reasons for achieving the breakthrough high radiance.

Abstract
Background Creeping fat, a form of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) that wraps the intestinal wall, influences the formation of Crohn’s disease (CD) strictures. The degree of fat wrapping from intestinal stricture resections is correlated with the extent of chronic inflammation, fibrosis, stricture formation, and response to biologic therapy. VAT and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) ratios from CTE (computed tomography) scans are elevated in CD strictures. However, the definition of strictures in these studies has been poorly defined and not included current well-recognized criteria: 1) bowel wall thickness (BWT), 2) narrowed luminal diameter, and 3) pre-stenotic dilation. (PSD). Purpose The objective of this pilot study was to assess the relationship of 2D and 3D VAT:SAT ratios with CT stricture parameters in patients with terminal ileal (TI) CD strictures. Method 2D VAT:SAT ratios from CT’s of CD patients with TI strictures defined as increased BWT, narrowed luminal diameter (< 50% relative to normal adjacent distended loop), and PSD greater than the stricture diameter were retrospectively obtained from a database and chart review. CT’s from fibrostenotic CD patients were sex and BMI matched to patients with only TI inflammatory behaviour. Patient demographics, medication, smoking, and surgical history were also obtained. Analyses were adjusted for age, sex, and BMI covariates. Unpaired t-tests and multi-variable logistic regression analyses were conducted. Result(s) Twenty-eight patients with stricturing CD had a significantly greater mean VAT:SAT volume ratio than 29 non-stricturing CD (41.5 cm3 vs 34.2 cm3, p=0.03). Thirty-six percent (10/28) of CD stricture patients had prior ileocolic resection with a mean disease duration of 13.5 years (range 0-48). The median ileal BWT (7.0 mm, range 4.0-13.0 mm) for the stricturing group was significantly greater than those with inflammatory behaviour (BWT 2.0 mm, p<0.0001). The median luminal diameter and PSD for the stricture group was 2.0 mm (range 0 - 14.0 mm), and 3.0 cm (range 1.0 - 7.3 cm), respectively. Image ![]()
Conclusion(s) Fibrostenotic TI CD patients have increased VAT:SAT ratios in comparison to those with only inflammatory behaviour. Abstract
Elderly individuals are often affected by osteoporosis and have poor stability after fracture reduction. Moreover, there is still controversy regarding the clinical effects of the treatment for unstable intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly. The Cochrane, Embase, PubMed, and other databases were searched, and a meta-analysis of the literature on the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures of the elderly with InterTan, PFNA, and PFNA-II was conducted. Seven studies were screened, with a total of 1236 patients. Our meta-analysis results show that InterTan is not significantly different from PFNA in terms of operation and fluoroscopy times, but it takes longer than PFNA-II. In terms of postoperative screw cut, pain, femoral shaft fracture, and secondary operations, InterTan is superior to PFNA and PFNA-II. Conversely, in terms of intraoperative blood loss, hospital stay, and postoperative Harris score, there is no significant difference between InterTan and PFNA and PFNA-II. Compared to PFNA and PFNA-II, InterTan internal fixation has advantages in the treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in elderly individuals in terms of screw cutting, femoral shaft fractures, and secondary operations. However, InterTan operation and fluoroscopy times take longer than PFNA and PFNA-II.

Abstract
As the emitters of quantum dots (QDs) light-emitting diodes (QLEDs), QDs, which are responsible for the charge injection, charge transportation, and especially exciton recombination, play a significant role in QLEDs. With the crucial advances made in QDs, such as the advancement of synthetic methods and the understanding of luminescence mechanisms, QLEDs also demonstrate a dramatic improvement. Until now, efficiencies of 30.9%, 28.7% and 21.9% have been achieved in red, green and blue devices, respectively. However, in QLEDs, some issues are still to be solved, such as the imbalance of charge injection and exciton quenching processes (defect-assisted recombination, Auger recombination, energy transfer and exciton dissociation under a high electric field). In this review, we will provide an overview of recent advances in the study and understanding of the working mechanism of QLEDs and the exciton quenching mechanism of QDs in devices. Particular emphasis is placed on improving charge injection and suppressing exciton quenching. An in-depth understanding of this progress may help develop guidelines to direct QLED development.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the predictive value of 68Ga-labelled prostate-specific membrane antigen-11 (68Ga-PSMA-11) integrated positron-emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) in PBRM1-deficient clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 41 patients with ccRCC, were enrolled retrospectively and underwent 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT preoperatively. Radiological parameters, including CT attenuation value and maximum standard uptake value (SUVmax), were derived. Immunohistochemical and multiple immunofluorescences staining were performed to evaluate the PBRM1 status and immune response. The predictive value of imaging factors was analysed using a receiver operator characteristic curve analysis. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to investigate the relationship between clinical and radiological variables and PBRM1 status. RESULTS A total of 41 patients were included in this study, with 14 patients having PBRM1-deficient status. The tumour diameter on imaging and SUVmax differed significantly in patients with different PBRM1 expression statuses and no difference in CT attenuation was identified. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses showed SUVmax was an obvious predictor for identification of PBRM1-deficient tumours. In addition, PBRM1-deficient tumours tended to be accompanied by greater cytotoxic T-cell infiltration, although most of them were in an exhausted state. CONCLUSIONS 68Ga-PSMA-11 PET/CT could be used to discriminate invasive PBRM1-deficient ccRCC.

Abstract
Thanks to the narrow line width and high brightness, colloidal quantum dot (CQD) lasers show promising applications in next-generation displays. However, CQD laser-based displays have yet to be demonstrated because of two challenges in integrating red, green, and blue (RGB) lasers: absorption from red CQDs deteriorates the optical gain of blue and green CQDs, and imbalanced white spectra lack blue lasing due to the high lasing threshold of blue CQDs. Herein, we introduce a facile surfactant-free self-assembly method to assemble RGB CQDs into high-quality whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) RGB lasers with close lasing thresholds among them. Moreover, these RGB lasers can lase nearly independently even when they are closely integrated, and they can construct an ultrawide color space whose color gamut is 105% of that of the BT.2020 standard. These combined strategies allow us to demonstrate the first full-color liquid crystal displays using CQD lasers as the backlight source.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the feasibility and efficacy of radiofrequency coblation assisted transoral surgery for the treatment of supraglottic laryngeal carcinoma by comparing with concurrent patients treated with conventional transcervical approach. To clarify the advantages of different surgical methods and to summarize the experience of supraglottic carcinoma radiofrequency ablation. Methods: Forty-six patients with supraglottic laryngeal carcinoma treated in department of otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery, Peking University First Hospital from March 2014 to January 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. Among them(43 males, 3 females, aged from 45 to 79 years old), 23 patients were treated with radiofrequency coblation and 23 patients with partial laryngectomy with conventional transcervical approach. The operation time, intra-operative blood loss volume, recovery time, inpatient total medical cost and follow-up information of the two groups were analyzed. SPSS 26.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Results: There were no significant differences in age, gender, TNM staging,tumor staging and postoperative radiotherapy between the two groups (all P>0.05).The operation time, intra-operative blood loss volume, recovery time, inpatient total medical cost of the RFC-TOS group were110.0(60.0,150.0)min,5.0(5.0,30.0)ml,3.0(2.0,5.0)days,6.0(4.0,14.0)days and 26 100.7(16 145.5,47 044.4)yuan. The data of conventional transcervical approach group were 205.0(156.5,272.3)min, 150.0(50,200) ml, 18.0(16.3,22.8)days and 56520.1(440 992.5,67 109.9)yuan, (Z=-4.03, -4.94, -4.97, -4.98 and -4.13;all P<0.001).The 5-year local control rate, disease-specific survival rate and overall survival rate of the two groups were 86.96%,95.65%,91.30% and 86.96%,91.30%,73.90% renspectively, which had no significant difference between the two groups(all P>0.05). Conclusions: Compared with conventional transcervical surgeries, RFC-TOS could be a reliable new surgical option for organ-function preservation strategy in the treatment of supraglottic laryngeal carcinoma.The RFC is a suitable new technique and deserving more multi-center clinical trials for its clinical promotion.

Abstract
With the advancement toward commercialization of quantum dots (QDs) in the field of lighting and display, improving the performance of Cd-free QDs and related quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) becomes necessary. Thus far, the performance of ZnTeSe- and InP-based blue and red QLEDs has been significantly improved by optimizing QDs emitting materials and device structure. However, as one of the three primary color sources, the performance of green InP-based QLEDs still lags behind that of blue and red Cd-free QLEDs. Herein, this review discusses the latest progress of green InP-based emitting materials and corresponding QLEDs, covering the engineering of InP core, the optimization of nanostructure and surface ligands of core/shell QDs, as well as the majorization of device architecture and carrier transport materials. Finally, some challenges and possible development directions of green InP-based QDs and related QLEDs are also identified, which may speed up the commercialization process of Cd-free QDs and corresponding QLEDs.

Abstract
High-quality InP-based quantum dots (QDs) have become very promising, environmentally benign light emitters for display applications, but their synthesis generally entails hazardous hydrofluoric acid. Here, we present a highly facile route to InP/ZnSe/ZnS core/shell/shell QDs with a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield. As the key additive, the inorganic salt ZnF2 mildly reacts with carboxylic acid at a high temperature and in situ generates HF, which eliminates surface oxide impurities, thus facilitating epitaxial shell growth. The resulting InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs exhibit a narrower emission line width and better thermal stability in comparison with QDs synthesized with hydrofluoric acid. Light-emitting diodes using large-sized InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs without replacing original ligands achieve the highest peak external quantum efficiency of 22.2%, to the best of our knowledge, along with a maximum brightness of >110 000 cd/m2 and a T95 lifetime of >32 000 h at 100 cd/m2. This safe approach is anticipated to be applied for a wide range of III-V QDs.

[Interference of P2X4 receptor expression in tumor-associated macrophages suppresses migration and invasion of glioma cells]. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effect of interference of P2X4 receptor expression in tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) on invasion and migration of glioma cells. METHODS C57BL/6 mouse models bearing gliomas in the caudate nucleus were examined for glioma pathology with HE staining and expressions of Iba-1 and P2X4 receptor with immunofluorescence assay. RAW264.7 cells were induced into TAMs using conditioned medium from GL261 cells, and the changes in mRNA expressions of macrophage polarization-related markers and the mRNA and protein expressions of P2X4 receptor were detected with RT-qPCR and Western blotting. The effect of siRNA-mediated P2X4 interference on IL-1β and IL-18 mRNA and protein expressions in the TAMs was detected with RT-qPCR and Western blotting. GL261 cells were cultured in the conditioned medium from the transfected TAMs, and the invasion and migration abilities of the cells were assessed with Transwell invasion and migration experiment. RESULTS The glioma tissues from the tumor-bearing mice showed a significantly greater number of Iba-1-positive cells, where an obviously increased P2X4 receptor expression was detected (P=0.001), than the brain tissues of the control mice (P < 0.001). The M2 macrophage markers (Arg-1 and IL-10) and M1 macrophage markers (iNOS and TNF-α) were both significantly up-regulated in the TAMs derived from RAW264.7 cells (all P < 0.01), but the up-regulation of the M2 macrophage markers was more prominent; the expression levels of P2X4 receptor protein and mRNA were both increased in the TAMs (P < 0.05). Interference of P2X4 receptor expression significantly lowered the mRNA(P < 0.01)and protein (P < 0.01, P < 0.05)expression levels of IL-1β and IL-18 in the TAMs and obviously inhibited the ability of the TAMs to promote invasion and migration of the glioma cells (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Interference of P2X4 receptor in the TAMs suppresses the migration and invasion of glioma cells possibly by lowering the expressions of IL-1β and IL-18.

[Application of three-dimensional visualization technique in laparoscopic D3 radical resection of right colon cancer]. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the clinical value of three-dimensional (3D) visualization technique in laparoscopic D3 radical resection of right colon cancer. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 73 patients with right colon cancer undergoing laparoscopic D3 radical operation in our hospital between May, 2019 and March, 2021. Among these patients, 41 underwent enhanced CT examination with 3D visualization reconstruction to guide the actual operation, and 32 underwent enhanced CT examination only before the operation (control group). In 3D visualization group, we examined the coincidence rate between the 3D visualization model and the findings in surgical exploration of the anatomy and variations of the main blood vessels, supplying vessels of the tumor, and the tumor location, and the coincidence rate between the actual surgical plan for D3 radical resection of right colon cancer and the plan formulated based on the 3D model. The operative time, estimated blood loss, unexpected injury of blood vessels, number of harvested lymph nodes, mean time of the first flatus, complications, postoperative hospital stay and postoperative drainage volume were compared between the two groups. RESULTS The operative time was significantly shorter in 3D visualization group than in the control group (P < 0.05). The volume of blood loss, proportion of unexpected injury of blood vessel, the number of harvested lymph nodes, time of the first flatus, proportion of complications, postoperative hospital stay and postoperative drainage volume did not differ significantly between the two groups (P > 0.05). In the 3D visualization group, the 3D visualization model clearly displayed the shape and direction of the colon, the location of the tumor, the anatomy and variation of the main blood vessels and the blood vessels supplying the cancer, and showed a coincidence rate of 100% with the findings by surgical exploration. The surgical plan for D3 radical resection of right colon cancer was formulated based on the 3D model also showed a coincidence rate of 100% with the actual surgical plan. CONCLUSION The 3D visualization reconstruction technique allows clear visualization the supplying arteries of the tumor and their variations to improve the efficiency, safety and accuracy of laparoscopic D3 radical resection of right colon cancer.

Abstract
Environmentally friendly blue-emitting ZnSe quantum dots (QDs) are in high demand for next-generation light-emitting devices. Yet, they suffer longstanding optical instability issues under aerobic conditions. Herein, we have demonstrated the existence of oxidization or hydroxylation on the QD surface when QDs are subjected to oxygen exposure, which potentially introduces highly localized in-gap states. Those states result in a dense number of surface-related, weak-intensity "dark" exciton states at the emission edge. Remarkably, there exists a critical diameter (Dc ≈ 8.5 nm) at which the deepest trap level reaches resonance with the highest occupied molecular orbital state. Beyond this critical diameter, the effects of those trap states are minimized, and the emission edge is dominated by high-intensity, bulk-to-bulk-like "bright" exciton states. The present work provides a novel strategy for designing highly stable QD emitters via size engineering, which are broadly applicable to other closely related QD systems.

Abstract
The surface functionalization of quantum dots (QDs) is essential for their application as a label material in a biological field. Here, a protein surface functionalization approach was introduced to combine with silica encapsulation for the sustainable and stable synthesis of QDs nanobeads for biomarker detection. The formation of QDs nanobeads was achieved by multiple mercapto groups in bovine serum albumin (BSA) macromolecules as multidentate ligands to replace hydrophobic ligands on the surface of QDs and decompression. The resulting QDs nanobeads exhibited 20 times more photoluminescence than the corresponding hydrophobic QDs and presented excellent stability under physiological conditions due to the protection of BSA and silica. The nanobeads served as a robust signal-generating reagent to construct the lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) biosensor for the detection of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c). The concentration of HbA1c was determined within 10 min with high specificity using only 60 μL of whole blood samples collected clinically. The nanobeads-based LFIA biosensor exhibited linear detection of HbA1c from 4.2% to 13.6%. The accuracy and stability of this approach in clinical utility was demonstrated by the detection of HbA1c after a long-term storage of test strips. This protein surface modification technology provides a new way for improving the biological properties of QDs in clinical diagnosis.

Abstract
Spin-polarized charge endows conventional lasers with not only new functionalities but also reduced lasing thresholds thanks to the lifting of spin degeneracy. II-VI and III-V semiconductors have been extensively investigated as spin laser gain mediums; however, the degree of polarization is limited by the light hole and heavy hole degeneracy. Herein, we evaluate the potential of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals─ones that are featured with low band-edge degeneracy and therefore a high degree of polarization as a result of inverted band structure and large spin-orbit coupling─as a gain medium for spin lasers. Our experiment and numerical modeling results reveal that, within the spin relaxation lifetime, the optical gain threshold can be depressed by polarizing the charge using circularly polarized photoexcitation. However, prolonging the spin relaxation lifetime is required to realize a spin laser.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the early outcome of one-stage hybrid technique in the treatment of Stanford type-A aortic dissection involving the arch and compare its therapeutic efficacy with the classical frozen elephant trunk technique (FET). Methods: A total of 106 patients with Stanford type-A aortic dissection involving the arch in Department of Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, 1st Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from October 2015 to October 2019 was collected. All patients in this group were treated with one-stage hybrid technique (modified arch debranching technique) without deep hypothermia circulation. Meanwhile, 30 patients with Stanford type A dissection involving the arch who underwent FET from January 2014 to September 2015 were collected. The therapeutic effects of the two surgical methods were analyzed and compared. Results: The age [M (Q1, Q3)] of 106 patients in hybrid group was 49.0 (40.0, 55.0) years, including 89 males and 17 females. The age [M(Q1, Q3)] of 30 patients in FET group was 49.5 (41.5, 65.3) years, including 24 males and 6 females. The time [M(Q1, Q3)] of using ventilator in hybrid group was 56.0 (38.0, 72.0) h, which was shorter than 127.0 (92.0, 145.0) h in FET group (P<0.001). The incidence of cerebral infarction in hybrid group was 2.8% (3 cases), which was lower than 13.3% (4 cases) in FET group (P=0.042); the incidence of postoperative renal insufficiency in hybrid group was 7.5% (8 cases), which was lower than 23.3% (7 cases) in FET group (P=0.023); the ICU time [M (Q1, Q3)] in hybrid group was 8.0 (6.0, 10.0) d, which was shorter than 14.0 (8.3, 24.0) d in FET group (P<0.001). Conclusion: Compared with FET, one-stage hybrid technology is safer and more effective in the treatment of Stanford type A aortic dissection involving the arch. Its short-term therapeutic efficacy appears good.

Abstract
Objective: To identify age and gender standardized body mass index among children and adolescents and explore their associations with high blood pressure (HBP) in late adolescence. Methods: The current study was based on the Health Promotion Program for Children and Adolescents, school-based surveillance successively conducted from 2012 to 2019 in Suzhou, China. A total of 11 812 children and adolescents aged 16-18 years, who had ≥4 examination records during 2012-2018 and were also involved in a surveillance program in 2019, were included. Latent class growth mixture modeling was used to identify the BMI-Z trajectories in different genders, and multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the associations between different BMI-Z trajectories and risk of HBP in late adolescence. Results: Six distinct BMI-Z trajectories were determined for both genders:thin, slightly thin,standard, declining, overweight, and obese. Compared with the regular group, the obesity group had 94.0% (OR=1.94, 95%CI: 1.43-2.63) and 107.0% (OR=2.07, 95%CI: 1.33-3.22) increased risk of developing HBP in late adolescence in boys and girls, respectively. However, a neutral association was found between the descending group and HBP in late adolescence. Conclusions: Persistent obesity in children may increase the risk of HBP in their late adolescence. If an obese child restores normal weight before late adolescence, the risk of HBP may reduce.
