Abstract
OBJECTIVE Emotional reactivity normally involves a synchronized coordination of subjective experience and facial expression. These aspects of emotional reactivity can be uncoupled by neurological illness and produce adverse consequences for patient and caregiver quality of life because of misunderstandings regarding the patient's presumed internal state. Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is often associated with altered social and emotional functioning. FTD is a heterogeneous disease, and socioemotional changes in patients could result from altered internal experience, altered facial expressive ability, altered language skills, or other factors. The authors investigated how individuals with FTD subtypes differ from a healthy control group regarding the extent to which their facial expressivity aligns with their self-reported emotional experience. METHODS Using a compound measure of emotional reactivity to assess reactions to three emotionally provocative videos, the authors explored potential explanations for differences in alignment of facial expressivity with emotional experience, including parkinsonism, physiological reactivity, and nontarget verbal responses. RESULTS Participants with the three main subtypes of FTD all tended to express less emotion on their faces than they did through self-report. CONCLUSIONS Exploratory analyses suggest that reasons for this incongruence likely differ not only between but also within diagnostic subgroups.

Abstract
Uterine fibroids (leiomyomas), the most common benign tumors in women of reproductive age, are a frequent cause of abnormal vaginal bleeding and other reproductive complaints among women. This study investigates the feasibility of using histotripsy, a non-invasive, non-thermal focused ultrasound ablation method, to ablate uterine fibroids. Human fibroid samples (n = 16) were harvested after hysterectomy or myomectomy procedures at Carilion Memorial Hospital. Histotripsy was applied to ex vivo fibroids in two sets of experiments using a 700-kHz clinical transducer to apply multicycle histotripsy pulses and a prototype 500-kHz transducer to apply single-cycle histotripsy pulses. Ultrasound imaging was used for real-time treatment monitoring, and post-treatment ablation was quantified histologically using hematoxylin and eosin and Masson trichrome stains. Results revealed that multicycle histotripsy generated diffuse cavitation in targeted fibroids, with minimal cellular ablative changes after treatment with 2000 pulses/point. Single-cycle pulsing generated well-confined bubble clouds with evidence of early coagulative necrosis on histological assessment in samples treated with 2000 pulses/point, near-complete ablation in samples treated with 4000 pulses/point and complete tissue destruction in samples treated with 10,000 pulses/point. This study illustrates that histotripsy is capable of fibroid ablation under certain pulsing parameters and warrants further investigation as an improved non-invasive ablation method for the treatment of leiomyomas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Surgical repair of full-thickness rotator cuff tears in symptomatic patients is known to offer significant benefits. Despite this there remains a lack of universal appreciation that such surgery offers high clinical value, with some commissioners even limiting access to it. The value-based healthcare agenda provides a means to design, deliver and measure the impact of healthcare to a defined segment of patients. The aim of this study was to measure the value of surgically repairing primary symptomatic full-thickness rotator cuff tears when outcomes and costs were assessed over an entire care pathway. METHODS A prospective study of patients undergoing rotator cuff tears repair was undertaken. Patients were managed using a standardised integrated care pathway. Subsequent outcomes and costs were measured over the whole care pathway. Outcomes were assessed from both traditional and patient centric re-formatted prisms. RESULTS Significant improvement in clinical outcomes where recognised when assessed from either the traditional or re-formatted prisms. Economic review of this approach revealed the pathway generated a sustainable and notable positive margin. DISCUSSION This study evidences how a well-designed value-based healthcare shoulder approach can be delivered and measured. It demonstrates rotator cuff surgery to be a high value treatment for patients with symptomatic rotator cuff tears.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Despite optimal surgical resection, meningiomas may recur, with increasing grade and the degree of resection being predictive of risk. We hypothesize that an increasing Ki67 correlates with a higher risk of recurrence of resected WHO grade I meningiomas. METHODS The study population consisted of patients with resected WHO grade 1 meningiomas in locations outside of the base of skull. Digitally scanned slides stained for Ki67 were analyzed using automatic image analysis software in a standardized fashion. RESULTS Recurrence was observed in 53 (17.7%) of cases with a median follow up time of 25.8 months. Ki67 ranged from 0 to 30%. Median Ki67 was 5.1% for patients with recurrence and 3.5% for patients without recurrence. In unadjusted analyses, high Ki-67 (≥ 5 vs. < 5) vs. ≥ 5) was associated with over a twofold increased risk of recurrence (13.1% vs. 27% respectively; HR 2.1731; 95% CI [1.2534, 3.764]; p = 0.006). After Adjusting for patient or tumor characteristics, elevated Ki-67 remained significantly correlated with recurrence. Grade 4 Simpson resection was noted in 71 (23.7%) of patients and it was associated with a significantly increased risk of recurrence (HR 2.56; 95% CI [1.41, 4.6364]; p = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS WHO grade 1 meningiomas exhibit a significant rate of recurrence following resection. While Ki-67 is not part of the WHO grading criteria of meningiomas, a value greater than 5% is an independent predictor for increased risk of local recurrence following surgical resection.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Musculoskeletal foot and ankle injuries are commonly experienced by soldiers during military training. We performed a systematic review to assess epidemiological patterns of foot and ankle injuries occurring during military training. METHODS A review of the literature was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. The search, done on 14 February 2019, resulted in 1603 reports on PubMed, 565 on Embase and 3 on the Cochrane Library. After reading the remaining full-text articles, we included 91 studies. RESULTS Among a population of 8 092 281 soldiers from 15 countries, 788 469 (9.74%) foot and ankle injuries were recorded. Among the 49 studies that reported on length of training, there were 36 770/295 040 (18.17%) injuries recorded among women and 248 660/1 501 672 (16.56%) injuries recorded among men over a pooled mean (±SD) training period of 4.51±2.34 months. Ankle injuries were roughly 7 times more common than foot injuries, and acute injuries were roughly 24 times more common than non-acute injuries. Our findings indicated that, during a 3-month training period, soldiers have a 3.14% chance of sustaining a foot and ankle injury. The incidence of foot or ankle injury during military parachutist training was 3.1 injuries per thousand jumps. CONCLUSIONS Our findings provide an overview of epidemiological patterns of foot and ankle injuries during military training. These data can be used to compare incidence rates of foot and ankle injuries due to acute or non-acute mechanisms during training. Cost-effective methods of preventing acute ankle injuries and non-acute foot injuries are needed to address this problem.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Few treatments are available for men with premature ejaculation (PE); oxytocin (OT) receptor antagonism in the central nervous system (CNS) is a potential new approach. AIM To determine if cligosiban selectively inhibits human OT receptors, penetrates the CNS, shows pharmacology in the CNS, and effects ejaculatory physiology in pre-clinical systems. METHODS Experiments complied with United Kingdom legislation and were subject to local ethical review. In vitro potency and selectivity of cligosiban was assessed using recombinant and native OT receptor systems including both neuronal and non-neuronal cell types. Selectivity was determined over neighboring V1A, V1B, and V2 vasopressin receptors using a combination of recombinant and native vasopressin receptor assay systems. To determine an effect on central OT receptors and on ejaculation, cligosiban was evaluated in 2 anesthetized rat models-the electromyography model of ejaculatory physiology and a model of OT-mediated CNS neuronal firing. The CNS penetration of cligosiban was also determined by measuring cerebrospinal fluid and plasma drug concentrations following an intravenous (IV) infusion in rats. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE These were functional measures of pharmacology in vitro, in cell lines and tissues, and in vivo in rats. RESULTS Cligosiban is a potent OT receptor antagonist, with a base dissociation constant of 5.7 nmol/L against native human uterine smooth muscle cell OT receptors. Cligosiban displays similar antagonistic potency against human recombinant and rat native OT receptors, including neuronal OT receptors. Cligosiban demonstrates >100-fold selectivity over human V1A, V1B, and V2 vasopressin receptors. In the electromyography model, cligosiban (0.9 mg/kg, IV bolus) reduced the bulbospongiosum burst pattern and contraction amplitude associated with ejaculation. In the anesthetized CNS neuronal firing model, the same dosing regimen of cligosiban (0.9 mg/kg IV bolus) modulated the OT-mediated response in the nucleus tractus solitarius. After systemic dosing to rats, cligosiban showed good CNS penetration. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS As the first highly selective and centrally penetrant OT receptor antagonist, cligosiban represents a promising compound to test the clinical hypothesis that antagonism of central OT receptors may be of therapeutic benefit in the treatment of PE. STRENGTH & LIMITATIONS The pharmacology and selectivity of cligosiban is determined using functional assays in recombinant cell lines, native cell lines, and tissue. Functional outcomes in in vivo systems are linked to CNS measures of pharmacology. The translation of the animal models of ejaculation to PE in man is unproven. CONCLUSION Cligosiban, a potent, selective OT receptor antagonist, demonstrated CNS penetration and pharmacology and, using the same dosing regimen, inhibited apomorphine-induced ejaculation in rats. Cligosiban is a promising compound to test the clinical hypothesis that antagonism of central OT receptors may be of therapeutic benefit in the treatment of PE. Wayman C, Russell R, Tang K, et al. Comparison of Actual and Reported Macronutrient Intake in a Well-controlled Human Feeding Study (P08-003-19). Curr Dev Nutr 2019. Abstract
Abstract
Objectives
Dietary guidelines are largely based on epidemiological studies that rely on memory-based dietary assessments (MBDAs) such as 24-hour recalls (24 hr). Few reports have compared actual and reported dietary intake in well-controlled feeding studies (WCFS). This study sought to directly compare discrepancies between actual dietary intake from experimental diets and reported 24 hr intake in free-living participants.
Methods
Food was provided to 24 subjects (50% female, ages 24.4(3.4); BMI 23.1(2.9)) for 24 days; all diets were eucaloric. Participants were provided a standard diet (15% protein (PRO): 35% fat: 50% carbohydrate (CHO)) for 3 days and then randomly assigned to either a 21-day high fat (60% fat, HF) or a high CHO (75% CHO, HC) diet while PRO was held constant. Diets were ‘typical’ foods with macronutrient compositions adjusted to achieve targeted percentages, either overtly (added sugary drinks) or covertly (added coconut oil). Calories were added to maintain weight (±1 kg). Dietitians administered 4 24-hour recalls (24 hr); one after the standard diet, and once a week during the experimental diets. Actual and reported energy intake (EI) and macronutrient intakes were compared within group via Student's T-tests (α = 0.05).
Results
No difference was observed between actual EI and reported EI during the standard or experimental phase for HF or HC groups. %difference was calculated as (g reported/g actual) * 100. PRO intake was over-reported by all subjects during the standard phase – 127.4% (11.3) and during the HC – 115.6% (7.2) and HF – 116.1% (5.6). PRO difference was due to over-reporting of animal PRO. During the experimental diet, HC subjects over-reported CHO – 166.4% (11.4) and under-reported fat –93.7% (4.7) while HF subjects under-reported CHO – 89.2% (6.5) and over-reported fat –119.8 (6.7). (P < 0.05).
Conclusions
In this WCFS in free-living participants, EI is accurately reported. However, subjects over-report animal PRO intake potentially due to their misreporting portion sizes of meat. When given extreme diets, subjects tended to under report the experimental macronutrient (HF or HC). This could potentially be due to covert target macronutrients in the diet. This makes use of the 24hr suspect in WCFS when macronutrients are hidden from participants.

Abstract
Exploitation of fish and shellfish stocks by the European Union fishing fleet is managed under the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), which aims to ensure that fishing and aquaculture are environmentally, economically and socially sustainable and that they provide a source of healthy food for E.U. citizens. A notable feature of the CFP is its legally enshrined requirement for sound scientific advice to underpin its objectives. The CFP was first conceived in 1970 when it formed part of the Common Agricultural Policy. Its formal inception as a stand-alone regulation occurred in 1983 and since that time, the CFP has undergone reforms in 1992, 2002 and 2013, each time bringing additional challenges to the scientific advisory process as the scope of the advice increased in response to changing objectives arising from E.U. regulations and commitments to international agreements. This paper reviews the influence that genetics has had on fish stock assessments and the provision of management advice for European fisheries under successive reforms of the CFP. The developments in genetics since the inception of the CFP have given rise to a diverse and versatile set of genetic techniques that have the potential to provide significant added value to fisheries assessments and the scientific advisory process. While in some cases, notably Pacific salmon Oncorhynchus spp., genetics appear to be very well integrated into existing management schemes, it seems that for marine fishes, discussions on the use of genetics and genomics for fisheries management are often driven by the remarkable technological progress in this field, rather than imminent needs emerging from policy frameworks. An example is the recent suggestion to use environmental (e)DNA for monitoring purposes. While there is no denying that state-of-the-art genetic and genomic approaches can and will be of value to address a number of issues relevant for the management and conservation of marine renewable natural resources, a focus on technology rather than policy and management needs is prone to widen the gap between science and policy, governance and management, thereby further impeding the effective integration of genetic and genomic information into the fisheries management decision making process. Hence, rather than focusing on what is technically achievable, this review outlines suggestions as to which modern genetic and genomic approaches are likely to help address some of the most pressing fisheries management challenges under the CFP.

Abstract
The IceCube neutrino telescope at the South Pole has measured the atmospheric muon neutrino spectrum as a function of zenith angle and energy in the approximate 320 GeV to 20 TeV range, to search for the oscillation signatures of light sterile neutrinos. No evidence for anomalous ν_{μ} or ν[over ¯]_{μ} disappearance is observed in either of two independently developed analyses, each using one year of atmospheric neutrino data. New exclusion limits are placed on the parameter space of the 3+1 model, in which muon antineutrinos experience a strong Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein-resonant oscillation. The exclusion limits extend to sin^{2}2θ_{24}≤0.02 at Δm^{2}∼0.3 eV^{2} at the 90% confidence level. The allowed region from global analysis of appearance experiments, including LSND and MiniBooNE, is excluded at approximately the 99% confidence level for the global best-fit value of |U_{e4}|^{2}.

Abstract
Gynecologists are often consulted on pediatric and adolescent patients who may require a surgical treatment for a gynecologic diagnosis. This patient population can present an interesting challenge for a nonpediatrician. It is helpful to review the differences in anatomy, alterations in drug dosing, surgical limitations, and counseling and consent requirements in this patient population before proceeding with a surgical treatment. This is a review of preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative considerations for gynecologic surgery in the pediatric and adolescent patient population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Invasive fungal sinusitis (IFS) is an aggressive mycosis of the nasal cavity with frequent extension to adjacent structures. Occurring more commonly in immunocompromised individuals, prognosis is typically poor despite aggressive treatment. This study aims to examine postoperative outcomes and survival of a cohort of fungal sinusitis patients at an academic center, as well as identify causes of death in IFS patients. METHODS This study was a retrospective chart review of patient charts and departmental records, yielding patient demographics, medical and surgical treatments, pathology records, and outcomes data. RESULTS Twenty-seven patients were identified from departmental records between 1998 and 2014. Twenty-one patients presented with Mucor infections, whereas the remaining 6 patients had Aspergillus. All patients were immunocompromised: diabetes (n = 14) and hematologic malignancy (n = 13). Three patients had multiple causes of immunosuppression. Most commonly involved subsites were the maxillary, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses. Nasal septum involvement was independently associated with mortality (p < 0.01). Overall mortality was 57.7% within 1 year, although 66.7% of fatalities occurred within 1 month of diagnosis. CONCLUSION Overall survival for IFS remains poor. Widespread disease and nasal septum involvement were associated with a negative clinical course. Early identification and aggressive surgical and antifungal therapy is warranted. Even despite intense therapy, comorbid conditions and drug toxicity increase mortality and complicate the clinical course.

Abstract
Results from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory have recently provided compelling evidence for the existence of a high energy astrophysical neutrino flux utilizing a dominantly Southern Hemisphere data set consisting primarily of ν(e) and ν(τ) charged-current and neutral-current (cascade) neutrino interactions. In the analysis presented here, a data sample of approximately 35,000 muon neutrinos from the Northern sky is extracted from data taken during 659.5 days of live time recorded between May 2010 and May 2012. While this sample is composed primarily of neutrinos produced by cosmic ray interactions in Earth's atmosphere, the highest energy events are inconsistent with a hypothesis of solely terrestrial origin at 3.7σ significance. These neutrinos can, however, be explained by an astrophysical flux per neutrino flavor at a level of Φ(E(ν))=9.9(-3.4)(+3.9)×10(-19) GeV(-1) cm(-2) sr(-1) s(-1)(E(ν)/100 TeV(-2), consistent with IceCube's Southern-Hemisphere-dominated result. Additionally, a fit for an astrophysical flux with an arbitrary spectral index is performed. We find a spectral index of 2.2(-0.2)(+0.2), which is also in good agreement with the Southern Hemisphere result.

Flavor Ratio of Astrophysical Neutrinos above 35 TeV in IceCube. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2015; 114:171102. Abstract
A diffuse flux of astrophysical neutrinos above 100 TeV has been observed at the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. Here we extend this analysis to probe the astrophysical flux down to 35 TeV and analyze its flavor composition by classifying events as showers or tracks. Taking advantage of lower atmospheric backgrounds for showerlike events, we obtain a shower-biased sample containing 129 showers and 8 tracks collected in three years from 2010 to 2013. We demonstrate consistency with the (fe:fμ:fτ)⊕≈(1:1:1)⊕ flavor ratio at Earth commonly expected from the averaged oscillations of neutrinos produced by pion decay in distant astrophysical sources. Limits are placed on nonstandard flavor compositions that cannot be produced by averaged neutrino oscillations but could arise in exotic physics scenarios. A maximally tracklike composition of (0:1:0)⊕ is excluded at 3.3σ, and a purely showerlike composition of (1:0:0)⊕ is excluded at 2.3σ.

Abstract
We present the development and application of a generic analysis scheme for the measurement of neutrino spectra with the IceCube detector. This scheme is based on regularized unfolding, preceded by an event selection which uses a Minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance algorithm to select the relevant variables and a random forest for the classification of events. The analysis has been developed using IceCube data from the 59-string configuration of the detector. 27,771 neutrino candidates were detected in 346 days of livetime. A rejection of 99.9999 % of the atmospheric muon background is achieved. The energy spectrum of the atmospheric neutrino flux is obtained using the TRUEE unfolding program. The unfolded spectrum of atmospheric muon neutrinos covers an energy range from 100 GeV to 1 PeV. Compared to the previous measurement using the detector in the 40-string configuration, the analysis presented here, extends the upper end of the atmospheric neutrino spectrum by more than a factor of two, reaching an energy region that has not been previously accessed by spectral measurements.

A comparison of the WHO 2004 and 2010 classification systems in pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNET). J Clin Oncol 2015. Abstract
267 Background: PNETs are rare tumors with multiple classification systems. We compared the WHO 2004 and 2010 classification systems for predicting mortality and metastasis. Variables associated with mortality were explored. Methods: Descriptive statistics were calculated for characteristics of 50 PNET patients. The relationship between the WHO 2004 and 2010 system was investigated using an exact Chi squared test. WHO grade categorization was explored by vital status, by the exact method, in order to determine if there was a difference in survivorship and metastasis by grading system. Associations between death and categorical variables were tested using exact methods and between death and continuous variables by the Wilcoxon test. Survival was explored using Cox Proportional Hazards regression (COX). Results: 62 % of patients were female and the median age was 60 years. Both grading systems were strongly associated with predicting mortality (table 1); all cases of mortality were in the higher grades. The 2010 grades do slightly better in predicting metastasis as metastases occur only in high grades (G2 and G3). Patients with lymphovascular or perineural invasion had significantly higher mortality. Mitotic Index was significantly different with a median of 0 in live patients versus 15 in deceased, p <0.001. This was similarly borne out in the survival analysis using COX, where for every one unit increase in Mitotic Index, there was about a one third increase in the hazard of death (p = 0.001). There was no significant difference in survival by tumor size, comorbidities, or margins. Conclusions: The WHO 2010 grading system is strongly associated with predicting mortality and performs better in predicting metastasis than the 2004 grading system. [Table: see text]

Abstract
A search for high-energy neutrinos interacting within the IceCube detector between 2010 and 2012 provided the first evidence for a high-energy neutrino flux of extraterrestrial origin. Results from an analysis using the same methods with a third year (2012-2013) of data from the complete IceCube detector are consistent with the previously reported astrophysical flux in the 100 TeV-PeV range at the level of 10(-8) GeV cm-2 s-1 sr-1 per flavor and reject a purely atmospheric explanation for the combined three-year data at 5.7σ. The data are consistent with expectations for equal fluxes of all three neutrino flavors and with isotropic arrival directions, suggesting either numerous or spatially extended sources. The three-year data set, with a live time of 988 days, contains a total of 37 neutrino candidate events with deposited energies ranging from 30 to 2000 TeV. The 2000-TeV event is the highest-energy neutrino interaction ever observed.

Abstract
We report on results of an all-sky search for high-energy neutrino events interacting within the IceCube neutrino detector conducted between May 2010 and May 2012. The search follows up on the previous detection of two PeV neutrino events, with improved sensitivity and extended energy coverage down to about 30 TeV. Twenty-six additional events were observed, substantially more than expected from atmospheric backgrounds. Combined, both searches reject a purely atmospheric origin for the 28 events at the 4σ level. These 28 events, which include the highest energy neutrinos ever observed, have flavors, directions, and energies inconsistent with those expected from the atmospheric muon and neutrino backgrounds. These properties are, however, consistent with generic predictions for an additional component of extraterrestrial origin.

Abstract
The objective was to determine whether metabolic goals have been achieved with locally isolated and transported preparations over the first 3 years of the UK's nationally funded integrated islet transplant program. Twenty islet recipients with C-peptide negative type 1 diabetes and recurrent severe hypoglycemia consented to the study, including standardized meal tolerance tests. Participants received a total of 35 infusions (seven recipients: single graft; 11 recipients: two grafts: two recipients: three grafts). Graft function was maintained in 80% at [median (interquartile range)] 24 (13.5-36) months postfirst transplant. Severe hypoglycemia was reduced from 20 (7-50) episodes/patient-year pretransplant to 0.3 (0-1.6) episodes/patient-year posttransplant (p < 0.001). Resolution of impaired hypoglycemia awareness was confirmed [pretransplant: Gold score 6 (5-7); 24 (13.5-36) months: 3 (1.5-4.5); p < 0.03]. Target HbA1c of <7.0% was attained/maintained in 70% of recipients [pretransplant: 8.0 (7.0-9.6)%; 24 (13.5-36) months: 6.2 (5.7-8.4)%; p < 0.001], with 60% reduction in insulin dose [pretransplant: 0.51 (0.41-0.62) units/kg; 24 (13.5-36) months: 0.20 (0-0.37) units/kg; p < 0.001]. Metabolic outcomes were comparable 12 months posttransplant in those receiving transported versus only locally isolated islets [12 month stimulated C-peptide: transported 788 (114-1764) pmol/L (n = 9); locally isolated 407 (126-830) pmol/L (n = 11); p = 0.32]. Metabolic goals have been attained within the equitably available, fully integrated UK islet transplant program with both transported and locally isolated preparations.

Abstract
Objective The maintenance of youthful skin appearance is strongly desired by a large proportion of the world's population. The aim of the present study was therefore to evaluate the effect on skin wrinkling, of a combination of ingredients reported to influence key factors involved in skin ageing, namely inflammation, collagen synthesis and oxidative/UV stress. A supplemented drink was developed containing soy isoflavones, lycopene, vitamin C and vitamin E and given to post-menopausal women with a capsule containing fish oil. Method We have performed a double-blind randomized controlled human clinical study to assess whether this cocktail of dietary ingredients can significantly improve the appearance of facial wrinkles. Results We have shown that this unique combination of micronutrients can significantly reduce the depth of facial wrinkles and that this improvement is associated with increased deposition of new collagen fibres in the dermis. Conclusion This study demonstrates that consumption of a mixture of soy isoflavones, lycopene, vitamin C, vitamin E and fish oil is able to induce a clinically measureable improvement in the depth of facial wrinkles following long-term use. We have also shown, for the first time with an oral product, that the improvement is associated with increased deposition of new collagen fibres in the dermis. Résumé

Measurement of atmospheric neutrino oscillations with IceCube. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2013; 111:081801. Abstract
We present the first statistically significant detection of neutrino oscillations in the high-energy regime (>20 GeV) from an analysis of IceCube Neutrino Observatory data collected in 2010 and 2011. This measurement is made possible by the low-energy threshold of the DeepCore detector (~20 GeV) and benefits from the use of the IceCube detector as a veto against cosmic-ray-induced muon background. The oscillation signal was detected within a low-energy muon neutrino sample (20-100 GeV) extracted from data collected by DeepCore. A high-energy muon neutrino sample (100 GeV-10 TeV) was extracted from IceCube data to constrain systematic uncertainties. The disappearance of low-energy upward-going muon neutrinos was observed, and the nonoscillation hypothesis is rejected with more than 5σ significance. In a two-neutrino flavor formalism, our data are best described by the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters |Δm(32)(2)|=(2.3(-0.5)(+0.6))×10(-3) eV(2) and sin(2)(2θ(23))>0.93, and maximum mixing is favored.
