Calcitonin gene‑related peptide alleviates hyperoxia‑induced human alveolar cell injury via the CGRPR/TRPV1/Ca2 + axis. Mol Med Rep 2024; 30:110. [PMID: 38695251 PMCID: PMC11082723 DOI: 10.3892/mmr.2024.13234] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/20/2024] [Accepted: 04/12/2024] [Indexed: 05/12/2024] Open
Abstract
Although exogenous calcitonin gene‑related peptide (CGRP) protects against hyperoxia‑induced lung injury (HILI), the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. The present study attempted to elucidate the molecular mechanism by which CGRP protects against hyperoxia‑induced alveolar cell injury. Human alveolar A549 cells were treated with 95% hyperoxia to establish a hyperoxic cell injury model. ELISA was performed to detect the CGRP secretion. Immunofluorescence, quantitative (q)PCR, and western blotting were used to detect the expression and localization of CGRP receptor (CGRPR) and transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1). Cell counting kit‑8 and flow cytometry were used to examine the proliferation and apoptosis of treated cells. Digital calcium imaging and patch clamp were used to analyze the changes in intracellular Ca2+ signaling and membrane currents induced by CGRP in A549 cells. The mRNA and protein expression levels of Cyclin D1, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), Bcl‑2 and Bax were detected by qPCR and western blotting. The expression levels of CGRPR and TRPV1 in A549 cells were significantly downregulated by hyperoxic treatment, but there was no significant difference in CGRP release between cells cultured under normal air and hyperoxic conditions. CGRP promoted cell proliferation and inhibited apoptosis in hyperoxia, but selective inhibitors of CGRPR and TRPV1 channels could effectively attenuate these effects; TRPV1 knockdown also attenuated this effect. CGRP induced Ca2+ entry via the TRPV1 channels and enhanced the membrane non‑selective currents through TRPV1 channels. The CGRP‑induced increase in intracellular Ca2+ was reduced by inhibiting the phospholipase C (PLC)/protein kinase C (PKC) pathway. Moreover, PLC and PKC inhibitors attenuated the effects of CGRP in promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis. In conclusion, exogenous CGRP acted by inversely regulating the function of TRPV1 channels in alveolar cells. Importantly, CGRP protected alveolar cells from hyperoxia‑induced injury via the CGRPR/TRPV1/Ca2+ axis, which may be a potential target for the prevention and treatment of the HILI.

Abstract
Aniline antioxidants (ANs) are widely used as industrial chemicals in products composed of rubber. ANs originate mainly from vehicles, where tire wear particles end up in dust and soil after being deposited on roads. Nowadays, limited information is available on the fate and seasonal variation of ANs in the road environment. In this study, we investigated the occurrence of 32 ANs in dust and soil from different road environments, including road dust, garage dust, parking lot dust, and green-belt soil. The total concentrations of ANs were 369 ng g-1 in road dust, 712 ng g-1 in garage dust, and 687 ng g-1 in parking lot dust. These concentrations are several times higher than that in green-belt soil (128 ng g-1). The highest concentrations of N-(1,3-dimethylbutyl)-N'-phenyl-1,4-phenylenediamine (6PPD) were found in dust and soil. Furthermore, notable seasonal differences were observed, with significantly higher concentrations of ANs in autumn than those in spring. In the main urban area, roads with high traffic volume exhibited higher concentrations of ANs than those with low traffic volume, indicating that ANs were produced by vehicle-related sources.

Abstract
The exacerbation of inherent light scattering with increasing scintillator thickness poses a major challenge for balancing the thickness-dependent spatial resolution and scintillation brightness in X-ray imaging scintillators. Herein, a thick pixelated needle-like array scintillator capable of micrometer resolution is fabricated via waveguide structure engineering. Specifically, this involves integrating a straightforward low-temperature melting process of manganese halide with an aluminum-clad capillary template. In this waveguide structure, the oriented scintillation photons propagate along the well-aligned scintillator and are confined within individual pixels by the aluminum reflective cladding, as substantiated from the comprehensive analysis including laser diffraction experiments. Consequently, thanks to isolated light-crosstalk channels and robust light output due to increased thickness, ultrahigh spatial resolutions of 60.8 and 51.7 lp mm-1 at a modulation transfer function (MTF) of 0.2 are achieved on 0.5 mm and even 1 mm thick scintillators, respectively, which both exceed the pore diameter of the capillary arrays' template (Φ = 10 µm). As far as it is known, these micrometer resolutions are among the highest reported metal halide scintillators and are never demonstrated on such thick scintillators. Here an avenue is presented to the demand for thick scintillators in high-resolution X-ray imaging across diverse scientific and practical fields.

Abstract
Huangqi Guizhi Wuwu Decoction (HQGZWWD) has shown promising potential in treating various cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to elucidate the molecular basis and therapeutic role of HQGZWWD in the treatment of doxorubicin (DOX)-induced myocardial injury. The HPLC fingerprint of HQGZWWD was used to analyze the active components. A DOX-induced myocardial damage rat model was developed, and the therapeutic effects of HQGZWWD were evaluated using echocardiography, myocardial enzyme levels, and hematoxylin and eosin staining. Network pharmacology was used to screen treatment targets, and western blotting and immunohistochemistry were performed to assess cellular pyroptosis levels. Oxidative stress levels were measured using assay kits, and mitochondrial damage was examined using transmission electron microscopy. An in vitro model of DOX-induced cell damage was established, and treatment was administered using serum containing HQGZWWD and N-acetylcysteine (NAC). Oxidative stress levels were detected using assay kits and DCFH-DA, whereas cellular pyroptosis levels were assessed through WB, immunofluorescence, and ELISA assays. HQGZWWD ameliorated DOX-induced myocardial injury. Network pharmacology identified IL-1β and IL-18 as crucial targets. HQGZWWD downregulated the protein levels of the inflammatory factors IL-1β and IL-18, inhibited the expression of GSDMD-NT, and simultaneously suppressed the synthesis of Caspase-1, ASC, NLRP3, and Caspase-11. Additionally, HQGZWWD inhibited oxidative stress, and the use of NAC as an oxidative stress inhibitor resulted in significant inhibition of the GSDMD-NT protein in H9C2 cells. These findings highlight the myocardial protective effects of HQGZWWD by inhibiting oxidative stress and suppressing both canonical and non-canonical pyroptotic pathways.

Abstract
Convenient transportation facilities not only bring the higher standard of living to big cities, but also bring some environmental pollution problems. In order to understand the presence and sources of methylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (Me-PAHs) in environmental samples and their association with total organic carbon (TOC), 49 Me-PAHs were analyzed in road dust, green belt soil and parking lot dust samples in Harbin. The results showed that the ranges of the total Me-PAHs (ΣMe-PAHs) content in road dust were 221-5826 ng/g in autumn and 697-7302 ng/g in spring, and those in green belt soil were 170-2509 ng/g and 155-9215 ng/g in autumn and spring, respectively. And ΣMe-PAHs content in parking lot dust ranged from 269 to 2515 ng/g in surface parking lots and from 778 to 10,052 ng/g in underground parking lots. In these samples, the composition profile of Me-PAHs was dominated by 4-ring Me-PAHs. The results of diagnostic ratios and principal component analysis (PCA) indicated that petrogenic and pyrogenic sources were the main sources of Me-PAHs in the samples. Spearman correlation analysis showed that there was no correlation for Me-PAHs in road dust and green belt soil on the same road. Furthermore, there was a significant positive relationship (0.12 ≤ R2 ≤ 0.67, P < 0.05) between Me-PAHs concentrations and the TOC content. This study demonstrated the presence of Me-PAHs with high concentrations in the road environment samples of Harbin.

Abstract
Intermolecular charge transfer (CT) complexes have emerged as versatile platforms with customizable optical properties that play a pivotal role in achieving tunable photoresponsive materials. In this study, we introduce an innovative approach for enhancing the modulation bandwidth and net data rates in optical wireless communications (OWCs) by manipulating combinations of monomeric molecules within intermolecular CT complexes. Concurrently, we extensively investigate the intermolecular charge transfer mechanism through diverse steady-state and ultrafast time-resolved spectral techniques in the mid-infrared range complemented by theoretical calculations using density functional theory. These intermolecular CT complexes empower precise control over the -3 dB bandwidth and net data rates in OWC applications. The resulting color converters exhibit promising performance, achieving a net data rate of ∼100 Mb/s, outperforming conventional materials commonly used in the manufacture of OWC devices. This research underscores the substantial potential of engineering intermolecular charge transfer complexes as an ongoing progression and commercialization within the OWC. This carries profound implications for future initiatives in high-speed and secure data transmission, paving the way for promising endeavors in this area.

Abstract
Objective: To construct a novel dual-specific antibody targeting human CD123 (CD123 DuAb) and study its effects in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) . Methods: Based on the variable region of the CD123 monoclonal antibody independently developed at our institution, the CD123 DuAb expression plasmid was constructed by molecular cloning and transfected into ExpiCHO-S cells to prepare the antibody protein. Through a series of in vitro experiments, its activation and proliferation effect on T cells, as well as the effect of promoting T-cell killing of AML cells, were verified. Results: ① A novel CD123 DuAb plasmid targeting CD123 was successfully constructed and expressed in the Expi-CHO eukaryotic system. ②The CD123 DuAb could bind both CD3 on T cells and CD123 on CD123(+) tumor cells. ③When T cells were co-cultured with MV4-11 cells with addition of the CD123 DuAb at a concentration of 1 nmol/L, the positive expression rates of CD69 and CD25 on T cells were 68.0% and 44.3%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). ④Co-culture with CD123 DuAb at 1 nmol/L promoted T-cell proliferation, and the absolute T-cell count increased from 5×10(5)/ml to 3.2×10(6)/ml on day 9, and CFSE fluorescence intensity decreased significantly. ⑤ With the increase in CD123 DuAb concentration in the culture system, T-cell exhaustion and apoptosis increased. When the CD123 DuAb was added at a concentration of 1 nmol/L to the culture system, the proportion of CD8(+) PD-1(+) LAG-3(+) T cells was 10.90%, and the proportion of propidium iodide (PI) (-) Annexin Ⅴ(+) T cells and PI(+) Annexin Ⅴ(+) T cells was 18.27% and 11.43%, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). ⑥ The CD123 DuAb significantly activated T cells, and the activation intensity was positively correlated with its concentration. The expression rate of CD107a on T cells reached 16.05% with 1 nmol/L CD123 DuAb, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). ⑦The CD123 DuAb promoted cytokine secretion by T cells at a concentration of 1 nmol/L, and the concentration of IFN-γ and TNF-α in the supernatant of the co-culture system reached 193.8 pg/ml and 169.8 pg/ml, respectively, which was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). ⑧When CD123 DuAb was added at a concentration of 1 nmol/L to the co-culture system of T cells and CD123(+) tumor cells, the killing intensity of T cells significantly increased, and the residual rates of CD123(+) MV4-11 cells, CD123(+) Molm13 cells, and CD123(+) THP-1 cells were 7.4%, 6.7%, and 14.6% on day 3, respectively, which were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05) . Abstract
Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) syndrome-based efficacy is an evaluation index which is unique to TCM and can reflect the advantages of TCM. The development of the methods and measurement tools for evaluating TCM syndrome-based efficacy can provide objective and quantitative evidence for the clinical efficacy evaluation of TCM and the development of new Chinese medicine preparations, being the exploration direction of innovative methods and technologies for evaluating TCM efficacy. The conventional evaluation methods are subjective and limited to the mitigation of symptoms and the improvement of physical signs, which make it difficult to form a unified evaluation standard. In addition, the evaluation methods lack unity, objectivity, and quantitative research. The scientific connotation, evaluation ideas and methods, and key technologies of the evaluation for the therapeutic effect on syndromes remain unclear, which leads to diverse evaluation modes, methods, and indexes. The syndrome-based efficacy scale provides a new idea for the objective quantification and standardization of TCM syndromes. This review systematically summarizes the methods and problems, introduces the research progress in the evaluation scales, and puts forward some thoughts on the characteristics of TCM syndrome-based efficacy evaluation, aiming to provide insights for the research in this field.

Abstract
The pursuit of developing sensors, characterized by their fluorescence-intensity enhancement or "turn-on" behavior, for accurately detecting noxious small molecules, such as amines, at minimal levels remains a significant challenge. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as promising candidates as sensors as a result of their diverse structural features and tunable properties. This study introduces the rational synthesis of a new highly coordinated (6,12)-connected rare earth (RE) alb-MOF-3, by combining the nonanuclear 12-connected hexagonal prismatic building units, [RE9(μ3-O)2(μ3-X)12(OH)2(H2O)7(O2C-)12], with the 6-connected rigid trigonal prismatic extended triptycene ligand. The resulting Y-alb-MOF-3 material is distinguished by its high microporosity and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area of approximately 1282 m2/g, which offers notable hydrolytic stability. Remarkably, it demonstrates selective detection capabilities for primary aliphatic amines in aqueous media, as evidenced by fluorescence turn-on behavior and photoluminescence (PL) titration measurements. This work emphasizes the potential of MOFs as sensors in advancing their selectivity and sensitivity toward various analytes.

Abstract
With the advancement of industrial economies, incidents involving spills of petroleum products have become increasingly frequent. The resulting pollutants pose significant threats to air, water, soil, plant and animal survival, as well as human health. In this study, microcrystalline cellulose served as the matrix and benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as the initiator, while butyl acrylate (BA) and N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide (MBA) were employed as graft monomers. Through free radical graft polymerization, cellulose-graft-poly(butyl acrylate-N,N'-methylene bisacrylamide) [Cell-g-P(BA-MBA)], possessing oil-adsorbing properties, was synthesized. The chemical structure, elemental composition, surface morphology and wetting properties of the graft polymerization products have been characterized, using infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, scanning electron microscopy and contact angle testing. The adsorption properties of Cell-g-P(BA-MBA) for various organic solvents and oils were then assessed. The experimental results demonstrated that Cell-g-P(BA-MBA) exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity of 37.55 g/g for trichloromethane. Adsorption kinetics experiments indicated a spontaneous and exothermic process involving physical adsorption, conforming to the Freundlich isotherm model. Furthermore, adsorption kinetics experiments revealed that Cell-g-P(BA-MBA) displayed favorable reuse and regeneration performance, maintaining its adsorption capacity essentially unchanged over fifteen adsorption-desorption cycles.

Abstract
Objective: To establish and internally validate a nomogram model for predicting complicated acute appendicitis (CA). Methods: The clinical data from 663 acute appendicitis patients from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October 2015 to October 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 411 males and 252 females, aged (M (IQR)) 41 (22) years (range: 18 to 84 years). There were 516 cases of CA and 147 cases of uncomplicated acute appendicitis. The minimum absolute contraction and selection operator regression model was used to screen the potential relative factors of CA, and the screened factors were included in the Logistic regression model for multivariate analysis. Software R was used to establish a preoperative CA nomogram prediction model, the receiver operating characteristic curve of the model was drawn, and the value of area under the curve (AUC) was compared to evaluate its identification ability, and the Bootstrap method was used for internal verification. Results: The elderly (age≥60 years) (OR=2.428, 95%CI: 1.295 to 4.549), abdominal pain time (every rise of 1 hour) (OR=1.089, 95%CI: 1.072 to 1.107), high fever (body temperature≥39 ℃) (OR=1.122, 95%CI: 1.078 to 1.168), total bilirubin (every rise of 1 μmol/L) (OR=2.629, 95%CI: 1.227 to 5.635) were independent relative factors of CA (all P<0.05). The AUC of this model was 0.935 (95%CI: 0.915 to 0.956). After internal verification using the Bootstrap method, the model still had a high discrimination ability (AUC=0.933), and the predicted CA curve was still in good agreement with the actual clinical CA curve. Conclusion: The clinical prediction model based on the elderly (age≥60 years), prolonged abdominal pain time, high fever (body temperature≥39 ℃), and increased total bilirubin can help clinicians effectively identify CA.

Phonon-driven transient bandgap renormalization in perovskite single crystals. MATERIALS HORIZONS 2023; 10:4192-4201. Abstract
Tailoring the electronic structure of perovskite materials on ultrafast timescales is expected to shed light on optimizing optoelectronic applications. However, the transient bandgap renormalization observed upon photoexcitation is commonly explained by many-body interactions of optically created electrons and holes, which shrink the original bandgap by a few tens of millielectronvolts with a sub-picosecond time constant, while the accompanying phonon-induced effect remains hitherto unexplored. Here we unravel a significant contribution of hot phonons in the photo-induced transient bandgap renormalization in MAPbBr3 single crystals, as evidenced by asymmetric spectral evolutions and transient reflection spectral shifts in the picosecond timescale. Moreover, we performed a spatiotemporal study upon optical excitation with time-resolved scanning electron microscopy and identified that the surface charge carrier diffusion and transient bandgap renormalization are strongly correlated in time. These findings highlight the need to re-evaluate current theories on photo-induced bandgap renormalization and provide a new approach for precisely controlling the optical and electronic properties of perovskite materials, enabling the design and fabrication of high-performance optoelectronic devices with exceptional efficiency and unique properties.

Abstract
The last decade has witnessed considerable progress in underwater wireless optical communication in complex environments, particularly in exploring the deep sea. However, it is difficult to maintain a precise point-to-point reception at all times due to severe turbulence in actual situations. To facilitate efficient data transmission, the color-conversion technique offers a paradigm shift in large-area and omnidirectional light detection, which can effectively alleviate the étendue limit by decoupling the field of view and optical gain. In this work, we investigated a series of difluoroboron β-diketonate fluorophores by measuring their photophysical properties and optical wireless communication performances. The emission colors were tuned from blue to green, and >0.5 Gb/s data transmission was achieved with individual color channel in free space by implementing an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation scheme. In the underwater experiment, the fluorophore with the highest transmission speed was fabricated into a 4×4 cm2 luminescent concentrator, with the concentrated emission from the edges coupled with an optical fiber array, for large-area photodetection and optical beam tracking. The net data rates of 130 Mb/s and 217 Mb/s were achieved based on nonreturn- to-zero on-off keying and OFDM modulation schemes, respectively. Further, the same device was used to demonstrate the linear light beam tracking function with high accuracy, which is beneficial for sustaining a reliable and stable connection in a dynamic, turbulent underwater environment.

An AH model was established by feeding LB alcoholic liquid feed for 8 weeks. At week 8, alanine Transaminase (ALT), triglyceride (TG), transferrin (TRF), interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, and IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), interferon-γ(IFN-γ) were detected in eye blood of mice. Liver tissues were stained with HE, Oil Red O, Prussian blue and immunofluorescence ROS. The contents of glutathione(GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver tissue homogenate were detected. To analyze the intervention effect and mechanism of Dendrobium officinale leaf fermentation solution on AH mice, the mRNA and protein relative expression levels of adenylate activated protein kinase (AMPK), AMPKβ1, phosphorylated AMPKβ1 (p-AMPKβ1), tumor suppressor gene p53 (p53), solsolic vector family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11), glutathione peroxidase 4 (GXP4) were detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and Western blot. Results: Compared with MG group, the serum ALT and TG levels in the DL, DM, and DH groups were all reduced [ALT: (45.94±19.85), (45.73±22.62), and (41.68±7.13) vs (75.51±17.76) U/L, respectively; TG: (0.90±0.23), (0.69±0.22) and (0.41±0.20) vs (1.28±0.19) mmol/L, respectively, all P<0.05]; IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, IFN-γ were decreased (all P<0.05). The serum TRF and IL-10 levels in the DM and DH groups were increased (all P<0.05). Compared with MG group, the liver tissue MDA of mice in DL, DM and DH groups was decreased [(0.41±0.05), (0.40±0.03), and (0.43±0.14) vs (0.64±0.06)μmol/g, respectively], GSH was increased (all P<0.05). Compared with MG, mRNA expression levels of AMPK (1.36±0.11, 1.61±0.17, 1.68±0.11 vs 0.80±0.12, respectively), SLC7A11 (0.91±0.12, 0.97±0.12, 0.99±0.13 vs 0.60±0.14, respectively) and GPX4 (0.51±0.11, 0.63±0.17, 0.83±0.15 vs 0.42±0.14, respectively) in the liver tissue of DL, DM and DH groups were all increased (all P<0.05). Compared with MG group, DL, DM and DH groups showed the relative expression levels of AMPKβ1, p-AMPKβ1, SLC7A11 and GPX4 were increased in the liver tissue of mice, while the relative expression levels of p53 protein were decreased (all P<0.05). Compared with MG group, DL, DM and DH groups reduced the degree of hepatic steatosis and inflammation in the lobules, while the iron and ROS staining in the liver tissue became lighter. Conclusion: Dendrobium officinale leaf fermentation liquid can alleviate the severity of AH in mice, and its mechanism may be related to the up-regulation of AMPK to inhibiting the p53/SLC7A11/GPX4 mediated Ferroptosis pathway.

Abstract
To obtain a comprehensive understanding about that occurrence, sources, and effects on human health of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in road environmental samples from Harbin, concentrations of 32 PAHs in road dust, green belt soil, and parking lot dust samples were quantified. The total PAH concentrations ranged from 0.95 to 40.7 μg/g and 0.39 to 43.9 μg/g in road dust and green belt soil, respectively, and were dominated by high molecular weight PAHs (HMW-PAHs). Despite the content of PAHs in arterial roads being higher, the composition profile of PAHs was hardly influenced by road types. For parking lot dust, the range of total PAH concentrations was 0.81-190 μg/g, and three-ring to five-ring PAHs produced the maximum contribution. Compared with surface parking lots (mean: 6.12 μg/g), higher total PAH concentrations were detected in underground parking lots (mean: 33.1 μg/g). The diagnostic ratios of PAHs showed that petroleum, petroleum combustion, and biomass/coal combustion were major sources of PAHs in the samples. Furthermore, according to the Incremental Lifetime Cancer Risk model, the cancer risks of three kinds of samples for adults and children were above the threshold (10-6). Overall, this study demonstrated that PAHs in the road environment of Harbin have a certain health impact on local citizens.

TADF-Based X-ray Screens with Simultaneously Efficient Singlet and Triplet Energy Transfer for High Spatial Imaging Resolution. ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES 2023; 15:34263-34271. Abstract
X-ray imaging scintillators play a crucial role in medical examinations and safety inspections, making them an essential technology in our modern lives. However, commercially available high-performance scintillators are fabricated exclusively from ceramic materials that require harsh preparation conditions and are costly to produce. Organic scintillators have emerged as a promising alternative due to their transparency and ease of fabrication at a low cost. Unfortunately, organic scintillators suffer from inefficient exciton utilization efficiency, leading to poor performance in X-ray imaging screens and hindering their commercialization. In this study, we explore the use of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) chromophores (4CzIPN-I and 4CzTPN) to enhance the absorption of ionizing radiation in X-ray imaging screens by an order of magnitude. By leveraging the unique features of TADF chromophores through simultaneously singlet-singlet and triplet-triplet efficient energy transfers at the interface between two different TADF systems, we demonstrate an impressive X-ray sensitivity and radioluminescence intensity. Our time-resolved experiments and density functional theory (DFT) calculations provide further evidence for the effectiveness of this approach. The resulting X-ray imaging screens based on this efficient interfacial energy transfer process in TADF systems exhibit outstanding X-ray imaging resolution of 20 line pairs/mm, the highest resolution reported thus far for organic scintillators. This resolution is at least two times higher than that achieved by commonly used commercial inorganic scintillators in the X-ray imaging market. These findings introduce a new component for greatly improving the performance of organic X-ray imaging scintillators, supporting a wide range of emerging X-ray applications with exceptional spatial resolution.

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to explore the application of interaction-dependent fucosyl-biotinylation (FucoID), a chemical biology-based proximity labeling technique, in capturing tumor antigen-specific T cells and its clinical value in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) . Methods: Flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy were employed to evaluate the experimental parameters for FucoID in CML. Peripheral blood samples were obtained from 14 newly diagnosed CML patients in the chronic phase. These samples underwent flow cytometry-based sorting and were subsequently labeled with FucoID to facilitate the isolation of tumor cells and T cells, followed by the immunophenotypic identification of tumor antigen-specific T cells. Finally, the diagnostic and therapeutic potential of FucoID in CML was assessed. Results: Initially, the experimental parameters for FucoID in CML were established. The proportion of CD3(+) T cells in patients was (8.96±6.47) %, exhibiting a marked decrease compared with that in healthy individuals at (38.89±22.62) %. The proportion of tumor-specific antigen-reactive T cells was (3.34±4.49) %, which demonstrated interpatient variability. In addition, the proportion of tumor-specific antigen-active T cells in CD4(+) T cells was (3.95±1.72) %, which was generally lower than the proportion in CD8(+) T cells at (5.68±2.18) %. Compared with those in tumor-specific antigen-nonreactive T cells, CCR7(-)CD45RA(-) effector memory T cells and CCR7(-)CD45RA(+) effector T cells were highly enriched in tumor-specific antigen-reactive T cells. Moreover, the intensity of tumor immune reactivity in patients exhibited a significant correlation with white blood cell count (WBC) and hemoglobin (HGB) levels in peripheral blood, while no such correlation was observed with other clinical baseline characteristics. Conclusion: The combination of FucoID and flow cytometry enables the rapid identification and isolation of tumor antigen-specific T cells in CML. The successful application of this method in CML and the implications of our findings suggest its potential clinical value in the field of hematologic malignancies.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as excellent platforms possessing tunable and controllable optical behaviors that are essential in high-speed and multichannel data transmission in optical wireless communications (OWCs). Here, we demonstrate a novel approach to achieving a tunable wide modulation bandwidth and high net data rate by engineering a combination of organic linkers and metal clusters in MOFs. More specifically, two organic linkers of different emission colors, but equal molecular length and connectivity, are successfully coordinated by zirconium and hafnium oxy-hydroxy clusters to form the desired MOF structures. The precise change in the interactions between these different organic linkers and metal clusters enables control over fluorescence efficiency and excited state lifetime, leading to a tunable modulation bandwidth from 62.1 to 150.0 MHz and a net data rate from 303 to 363 Mb/s. The fabricated color converter MOFs display outstanding performance that competes, and in some instances surpasses, those of conventional materials commonly used in light converter devices. Moreover, these MOFs show high practicality in color-pure wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM), which significantly improved the data transmission link capacity and security by the contemporary combining of two different data signals in the same path. This work highlights the potential of engineered MOFs as a game-changer in OWCs, with significant implications for future high-speed and secure data transmission.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the value of cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) in the risk stratification of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Methods: HCM patients who underwent CMR examination in Fuwai Hospital between March 2012 and May 2013 were retrospectively enrolled. Baseline clinical and CMR data were collected and patient follow-up was performed using telephone contact and medical record. The primary composite endpoint was sudden cardiac death (SCD) or and equivalent event. The secondary composite endpoint was all-cause death and heart transplant. Patients were divided into SCD and non-SCD groups. Cox regression was used to explore risk factors of adverse events. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to assess the performance and the optimal cut-off of late gadolinium enhancement percentage (LGE%) for the prediction of endpoints. Kaplan-Meier and log-rank tests were used to compare survival differences between groups. Results: A total of 442 patients were enrolled. Mean age was (48.5±12.4) years and 143(32.4%) were female. At (7.6±2.5) years of follow-up, 30 (6.8%) patients met the primary endpoint including 23 SCD and 7 SCD equivalent events, and 36 (8.1%) patients met the secondary endpoint including 33 all-cause death and 3 heart transplant. In multivariate Cox regression, syncope(HR=4.531, 95%CI 2.033-10.099, P<0.001), LGE% (HR=1.075, 95%CI 1.032-1.120, P=0.001) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (HR=0.956, 95%CI 0.923-0.991, P=0.013) were independent risk factors for primary endpoint; Age (HR=1.032, 95%CI 1.001-1.064, P=0.046), atrial fibrillation (HR=2.977, 95%CI 1.446-6.131, P=0.003),LGE% (HR=1.075, 95%CI 1.035-1.116, P<0.001) and LVEF (HR=0.968, 95%CI 0.937-1.000, P=0.047) were independent risk factors for secondary endpoint. ROC curve showed the optimal LGE% cut-offs were 5.1% and 5.8% for the prediction of primary and secondary endpoint, respectively. Patients were further divided into LGE%=0, 0<LGE%<5%, 5%≤LGE%<15% and LGE%≥15% groups. There were significant survival differences between these 4 groups whether for primary endpoint or secondary endpoint (all P<0.001) and the accumulated incidence of primary endpoint was 1.2% (2/161), 2.2% (2/89), 10.5% (16/152) and 25.0% (10/40), respectively. Conclusion: LGE is an independent risk factor for SCD events as well as all-cause death and heart transplant. LGE is of important value in the risk stratification in patients with HCM.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of the AML1-ETO (AE) fusion gene on the biological function of U937 leukemia cells by establishing a leukemia cell model that induces AE fusion gene expression. Methods: The doxycycline (Dox) -dependent expression of the AE fusion gene in the U937 cell line (U937-AE) were established using a lentivirus vector system. The Cell Counting Kit 8 methods, including the PI and sidanilide induction, were used to detect cell proliferation, cell cycle-induced differentiation assays, respectively. The effect of the AE fusion gene on the biological function of U937-AE cells was preliminarily explored using transcriptome sequencing and metabonomic sequencing. Results: ①The Dox-dependent Tet-on regulatory system was successfully constructed to regulate the stable AE fusion gene expression in U937-AE cells. ②Cell proliferation slowed down and the cell proliferation rate with AE expression (3.47±0.07) was lower than AE non-expression (3.86 ± 0.05) after inducing the AE fusion gene expression for 24 h (P<0.05). The proportion of cells in the G(0)/G(1) phase in the cell cycle increased, with AE expression [ (63.45±3.10) %) ] was higher than AE non-expression [ (41.36± 9.56) %] (P<0.05). The proportion of cells expressing CD13 and CD14 decreased with the expression of AE. The AE negative group is significantly higher than the AE positive group (P<0.05). ③The enrichment analysis of the transcriptome sequencing gene set revealed significantly enriched quiescence, nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells, interferon-α/γ, and other inflammatory response and immune regulation signals after AE expression. ④Disorder of fatty acid metabolism of U937-AE cells occurred under the influence of AE. The concentration of the medium and short-chain fatty acid acylcarnitine metabolites decreased in cells with AE expressing, propionyl L-carnitine, wherein those with AE expression (0.46±0.13) were lower than those with AE non-expression (1.00±0.27) (P<0.05). The metabolite concentration of some long-chain fatty acid acylcarnitine increased in cells with AE expressing tetradecanoyl carnitine, wherein those with AE expression (1.26±0.01) were higher than those with AE non-expression (1.00±0.05) (P<0.05) . Conclusion: This study successfully established a leukemia cell model that can induce AE expression. The AE expression blocked the cell cycle and inhibited cell differentiation. The gene sets related to the inflammatory reactions was significantly enriched in U937-AE cells that express AE, and fatty acid metabolism was disordered.

Abstract
Lead-free organic metal halide scintillators with low-dimensional electronic structures have demonstrated great potential in X-ray detection and imaging due to their excellent optoelectronic properties. Herein, the zero-dimensional organic copper halide (18-crown-6)2Na2(H2O)3Cu4I6 (CNCI) which exhibits negligible self-absorption and near-unity green-light emission was successfully deployed into X-ray imaging scintillators with outstanding X-ray sensitivity and imaging resolution. In particular, we fabricated a CNCI/polymer composite scintillator with an ultrahigh light yield of ∼109,000 photons/MeV, representing one of the highest values reported so far for scintillation materials. In addition, an ultralow detection limit of 59.4 nGy/s was achieved, which is approximately 92 times lower than the dosage for a standard medical examination. Moreover, the spatial imaging resolution of the CNCI scintillator was further improved by using a silicon template due to the wave-guiding of light through CNCI-filled pores. The pixelated CNCI-silicon array scintillation screen displays an impressive spatial resolution of 24.8 line pairs per millimeter (lp/mm) compared to the resolution of 16.3 lp/mm for CNCI-polymer film screens, representing the highest resolutions reported so far for organometallic-based X-ray imaging screens. This design represents a new approach to fabricating high-performance X-ray imaging scintillators based on organic metal halides for applications in medical radiography and security screening.

Abstract
X-ray imaging technology is critical to numerous different walks of daily life, ranging from medical radiography and security screening all the way to high-energy physics. Although several organic chromophores are fabricated and tested as X-ray imaging scintillators, they generally show poor scintillation performance due to their weak X-ray absorption cross-section and inefficient exciton utilization efficiency. Here, a singlet fission-based high-performance organic X-ray imaging scintillator with near unity exciton utilization efficiency is presented. Interestingly, it is found that the X-ray sensitivity and imaging resolution of the singlet fission-based scintillator are dramatically improved by an efficient energy transfer from a thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) sensitizer, in which both singlet and triplet excitons can be efficiently harnessed. The fabricated singlet fission-based scintillator exhibits a high X-ray imaging resolution of 27.5 line pairs per millimeter (lp mm-1 ), which exceeds that of most commercial scintillators, demonstrating its high potential use in medical radiography and security inspection.

Deformation Prediction Theory of Thermal Barrier Coatings near Cooling Holes under Thermal Cycling. ACS OMEGA 2023; 8:13048-13058. Abstract
Thermal barrier coating (TBC) systems are widely adopted in gas turbine blades to improve the thermal efficiency of gas turbine engines. However, TBC failure will happen due to the thermal stress between the different layers of the TBC systems. The traditional two-layer theoretical model only considers TGO (thermally grown oxide) and a substrate in the inner cooling hole with the surface uncoated, which results in poor prediction of the deformations of the TBC systems. It should be mentioned that the effect of TBC is very important because the thickness of TBC is much larger than the TGO thickness. In this study, a new three-layer theoretical model was derived, which is composed of the cylindrical TGO and TBC mounted in the substrate with a circular hole, and the stress and strain of TGO near the cooling hole under the condition of the thermal cycles were calculated. The high temperature characteristics of TGO and the substrate including the high temperature strength and growth ratio were from the experiments. The results show that the strain of the developed three-layer model is irrelevant with increasing number of cycles, which indicates that TBC in the cooling hole significantly inhibits the deformation of TGO near the cooling hole. Therefore, aimed at confirming the feasibility of the three-layer theoretical model, the finite element analysis with coating in the cooling hole and on the surface was carried out with a three-layer axisymmetric model, which proves that the 3-layer theoretical model can predict the deformation trend near the cooling hole.

Abstract
Structural modifications to molecular systems that lead to the control of photon emission processes at the interfaces between photoactive materials play a key role in the development of fluorescence sensors, X-ray imaging scintillators, and organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). In this work, two donor-acceptor systems were used to explore and reveal the effects of slight changes in chemical structure on interfacial excited-state transfer processes. A thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) molecule was chosen as the molecular acceptor. Meanwhile, two benzoselenadiazole-core MOF linker precursors, Ac-SDZ and SDZ, with the presence and absence of a C≡C bridge, respectively, were carefully chosen as energy and/or electron-donor moieties. We found that the SDZ -TADF donor-acceptor system exhibited efficient energy transfer, as evidenced by steady-state and time-resolved laser spectroscopy. Furthermore, our results demonstrated that the Ac-SDZ-TADF system exhibited both interfacial energy and electron transfer processes. Femtosecond-mid-IR (fs-mid-IR) transient absorption measurements revealed that the electron transfer process takes place on the picosecond timescale. Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations confirmed that photoinduced electron transfer occurred in this system and demonstrated that it takes place from C≡C in Ac-SDZ to the central unit of the TADF molecule. This work provides a straightforward way to modulate and tune excited-state energy/charge transfer processes at donor-acceptor interfaces.

Abstract
Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a low-cost, simple, fast, and non-invasive test. It can reflect the heart's electrical activity and provide valuable diagnostic clues about the health of the entire body. Therefore, ECG has been widely used in various biomedical applications such as arrhythmia detection, disease-specific detection, mortality prediction, and biometric recognition. In recent years, ECG-related studies have been carried out using a variety of publicly available datasets, with many differences in the datasets used, data preprocessing methods, targeted challenges, and modeling and analysis techniques. Abstract
The clinical data and joint ultrasound characteristics of 140 male patients aged from 18 to 70 years who were diagnosed with acute gout from June 2017 to June 2021 in Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of the Third Hospital of Hebei Medical University were selected for the retrospective analysis. According to the serum uric acid levels, the patients were divided into normal uric acid group (sUA≤420 μmol/L, 38 cases) and hyperuric acid group (sUA>420 μmol/L, 102 cases). The results suggested that the lower limb joints were the most affected in gout patients. The deposition of MSU crystal were still found in male gout patients with normal serum uric acid, and the standard urate-lowering therapy should also be carried out. Ultrasound can be used as an important supplementary tool for the diagnosis of gout. Group with high level serum uric acid may be more serious.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the short-and mid-term efficacy of pediatric kidney transplantation and the risk factors for kidney graft and recipient. Methods: The baseline data and postoperative complications of pediatric donors and recipients of 284 kidney transplants were retrospectively analyzed in the Department of Kidney Transplantation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from August 2010 to May 2021 and all subjects were followed up until December 31, 2021. According to the survival status of donors and recipients, they were divided into the graft-loss group and the graft-survival group, and the recipient death group and survival group, respectively. Univariate comparison between groups was performed by Log-rank test, and Cox proportional risk model was used to explore the independent risk factors for the graft and recipient survival. Results: Among the 284 children recipients, 184 cases (64.8%) were male and 100 cases(35.2%) were female, and 19 cases (6.7%) were living relative donor renal transplantation, 19 cases (6.7%) were preemptive transplantation, and 8 cases were secondary transplantation. The age of 284 recipients at the time of transplantation was 13.0 (9.0, 15.0) years, among whom 29 cases aged 0-6 years, 96 cases aged 7-11 years old, and 159 cases aged 12-18 years. The 1, 3, and 5 year survival rates were 92.3%, 88.9% and 84.8% for the kidney grafts, and were 97.1%, 95.6% and 94.4% for the recipients, respectively. Multivariate analysis showed postoperative acute rejection (HR=3.14, 95%CI 1.38-7.15, P=0.006) and perioperative vascular complications (HR=4.73, 95%CI 2.03-11.06, P<0.001) were independent risk factors for the survival of kidney graft. Postoperative infection (HR=14.23, 95%CI 3.45-58.72, P<0.001) was an independent risk factor for the postoperative mortality of recipients. Conclusions: Pediatric kidney transplantation shows a good short-and mid-term prognosis. Postoperative acute rejection and perioperative vascular complications are the risk factors for the survival of kidney graft, and postoperative infection is the risk factor affecting the survival of recipient.

Abstract
Objective: To develop a venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk assessment scale for adult burn patients and to test its reliability and validity. Methods: The scale research method and multi-center cross-sectional survey method were used. Based on the results of literature analysis method and brain-storming method, the letter questionnaire for experts was formulated. Then 27 experts (9 doctors of burn department, 9 vascular surgeons, and 9 nurses) were performed with two rounds of correspondences by Delphi method, and the reliability of the experts was analyzed. The weight of each item was determined by optimal sequence diagram method and expert importance evaluation to form the VTE Risk Assessment Scale for Adult Burn Patients. A total of 223 adult burn inpatients, who were admitted to 5 tier Ⅲ grade A general hospitals including the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College, Nanchong Central Hospital, and the Second People's Hospital of Yibin City from October 1st 2019 to January 1st 2020, were selected as respondents by convenience sampling method. The first assessment was performed with the VTE Risk Assessment Scale for Adult Burn Patients within 24 hours of admission of patients, and real-time assessment was performed as the patients' condition and treatment changed. The highest value was taken as the result. Correlation coefficient method and critical ratio method were used for item analysis; Cronbach's α coefficient was used to test the internal consistency of scale; content validity index was used to analyze the content validity of the scale, and receiver's operating characteristic (ROC) curve was drawn to test the predictive validity of the scale. Data were statistically analyzed with chi-square test, Pearson correlation analysis, independent sample t test, and Z test. Results: As four questionnaires in the first round of correspondence were rejected as unqualified, and another 4 experts were selected for the 2 rounds of correspondence. Most of them were aged 41 to 50 years with postgraduate degrees, engaging in the current profession for 11 to 30 years, and all of them had professional titles of associate senior or above. The scale, constructed through literature analysis, group brainstorming, and two rounds of correspondence, includes 3 primary items and 50 secondary items. In the first round of correspondence, the recovery rate of valid questionnaires and the ratio with expert opinions were 85.2% (23/27) and 47.8% (11/23), respectively. In the second round of correspondence, the recovery rate of valid questionnaires and the ratio with expert opinions were 100% (27/27) and 11.1% (3/27), respectively. The average collective authority coefficients of experts were both 0.90 in the 2 rounds of correspondence. The mean values of importance assignment, full score rate, and selection rate above 4 were 4.21, 52.5%, and 77.2%, respectively, in the first round of correspondence, and 4.28, 45.2%, and 85.8%, respectively, in the second round of correspondence. The mean coefficients of variation and the mean value of Kendall's coefficient of harmony for each item were 0.21 and 0.30 in the first round of correspondence, respectively, and 0.16 and 0.36 in the second round of correspondence, respectively. In the first and second rounds of correspondence, the Kendall's coefficients of harmony of 3 primary items (age and underlying diseases, burn injury factors, and burn treatment factors) and total secondary items were statistically significant (with χ2 values of 121.46, 107.09, 116.00, 331.97, 169.97, 152.12, 141.54, and 471.70, P<0.01). The weights of primary items for age and underlying diseases, burn injury factors, and burn treatment factors were 0.04, 0.05, and 0.07, respectively. The weights of secondary items ranged from 0.71 to 0.99, with assigned values of 3 to 6. The total burn area of 223 patients ranged from 1% to 89% total body surface area, and the patients were aged from 19 to 96 years, with the risk assessment score from 0 to 98. Nine patients developed VTE, with a risk assessment score of 41 to 90. The scores of 37 items were significantly positively correlated with the total score of scale (with r values of 0.14 to 0.61, P<0.05 or P<0.01), and the items were retained. There were 36 secondary items with statistically significant differences between the patients in high-score group and low-score group (with Z values of -4.88 to -2.09, t values of -11.63 to -2.09, P<0.05 or P<0.01), and the items were retained. The total Cronbach's α coefficient of scale was 0.88. The total content validity index of scale was 0.95. The optimal threshold of the scale for the diagnosis of VTE was 40, at which the sensitivity was 88.9%, the specificity was 87.4%, the Youden index was 0.87, and the area under the ROC curve was 0.96 (with 95% confidence interval of 0.93 to 0.99, P<0.01). Conclusions: The age and underlying diseases, burn injury factors, and burn treatment factors are the risk factors for VTE in adult burn patients. The VTE risk assessment scale for adult burn patients developed based on these factors has good reliability and validity, and provide good reference value for clinical VTE risk assessment.

Abstract
Mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) based on luminescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and emissive polymers with the combination of their unique advantages have great potential in separation science, sensing, and light-harvesting applications. Here, we demonstrate MMMs for the field of high-speed visible-light communication (VLC) using a very efficient energy transfer strategy at the interface between a MOF and an emissive polymer. Our steady-state and ultrafast time-resolved experiments, supported by high-level density functional theory calculations, revealed that efficient and ultrafast energy transfer from the luminescent MOF to the luminescent polymer can be achieved. The resultant MMMs exhibited an excellent modulation bandwidth of around 80 MHz, which is higher than those of most well-established color-converting phosphors commonly used for optical wireless communication. Interestingly, we found that the efficient energy transfer further improved the light communication data rate from 132 Mb/s of the pure polymer to 215 Mb/s of MMMs. This finding not only showcases the promise of the MMMs for high-speed VLC but also highlights the importance of an efficient and ultrafast energy transfer strategy for the advancement of data rates of optical wireless communication.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the changes in refractive status and prevalence of myopia in 6-to 14-year-old children at 2 time points in Zhuozhou, Hebei Province. Methods: In the current cohort study, the visual acuity and refractive status of primary and secondary school students aged 6 to 14 years were examined from June to August 2019 and reexamined from June to August 2020. A total of 30 412 subjects with examination data were enrolled, including 15 861 males (52.2%) and 14 551 females (47.8%), with an average age of (10.0±2.7) years. The participants underwent autorefraction without cycloplegia and a naked eye visual acuity test with a standard logarithmic visual acuity chart. Myopia was screened by the standard of equivalent spherical refraction less than -0.75 diopter (D). The categorical data were analyzed by the Chi-square or Fisher's exact test. Clopper-Pearson was used to estimate the 95% confidence intervals for the incidence of myopia. Results: After the 1-year interval, the change of equivalent spherical refraction was(-0.67±1.11) D and(-0.76±1.11) D, respectively, in male and female participants, and their visual acuity decreased by 0.11±0.19 and 0.12±0.21, respectively. There were significant inter-group differences in the annual change of spherical power in different age groups (χ²=276.23, P<0.001). The naked eye visual acuity reduction was greatest in the 10-year-old students. The incidence of myopia was 42.2% (95% confidence intervals of 41.47% to 42.93%) during the 1-year follow-up period. The incidence of myopia was highest at the age of 14 (52.0% in males and 54.2% in females) and lowest at the age of 6 (31.0% in males and 33.1% in females). Conclusions: The 1-year follow-up revealed an obvious myopic shift in the refractive status of school students in Zhuozhou, with their naked eye visual acuity decreased. The incidence of myopia was higher in females than that in males.

Therapeutic Potential of Astragaloside IV Against Adriamycin-Induced Renal Damage in Rats via Ferroptosis. Front Pharmacol 2022; 13:812594. Abstract
Adriamycin (ADR) has been utilized to treat cancer for several decades. However, ADR-induced renal injury is one of the most common side effects accompanying ADR therapy. In the present study, we revealed that astragaloside IV (ASIV) was beneficial for renal injury caused by Adriamycin. We demonstrated that ASIV significantly ameliorated kidney injury, improved renal dysfunction, reduced oxidative stress, alleviated iron accumulation, and inhibited the induction of ferroptosis by ADR. ASIV also rescued the intracellular levels of nuclear factor-erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and promoted nuclear translocation of Nrf2. These protective effects of ASIV on renal injury might be attained through the ASIV-induced activation of the Pi3K/Akt signaling pathway. In vitro, the treatment of the HK-2 cells with fer-1 or deferoxamine mesylate obviously improved cell viability during Adriamycin administration. On the other hand, the protective role of ASIV can be abrogated by RSL3 to some extent. Moreover, ASIV lowered the expression of transferrin receptor 1 and divalent metal transporter 1 while enhancing the expression of ferropotin 1 and glutathione peroxidase 4 in ADR administrated cells, the effects of which were akin to those of deferoxamine mesylate. Furthermore, ASIV increased the phosphorylation of Pi3K, Akt, and the expression of Nrf2 and glutathione peroxidase 4 compared to HK-2 cells stimulated by ADR. However, Pi3K inhibitor LY294002 abrogated these activations. In conclusion, ferroptosis may involve in ADR-induced nephrotoxicity, and ASIV might protect nephrocytes against ADR-induced ferroptosis, perhaps via activations of the Pi3K/Akt and Nrf2 signaling pathways.

Abstract
The modulation of the properties of emission from multiple emission states in a single-component organic luminescent material is highly desirable in data anticounterfeiting, information storage, and bioapplications. Here, a single-component luminescent organic crystal of difluoroboron diphenyl β-diketonate with controllable multiple emission colors is successfully reported. The temperature-dependent luminescence experiments supported by high-level theoretical calculations demonstrate that the ratio of the fluorescence between the monomer and excimer and the phosphorescence maxima of the excimer can be effectively regulated. In addition, the temperature-dependent fluorescence and afterglow dual-emission color changes provide a new strategy for the design of highly accurate double-checked temperature sensors.

Abstract
The development of materials with outstanding performance for sensitive and selective detection of multiple analytes is essential for the development of human health and society. Luminescent metal-organic frameworks (LMOFs) have controllable surface and pore sizes and excellent optical properties. Therefore, a variety of LMOF-based sensors with diverse detection functions can be easily designed and applied. Furthermore, the introduction of energy transfer (ET) into LMOFs (ET-LMOFs) could provide a richer design concept and a much more sensitive and accurate sensing performance. In this review, we focus on the recent five years of advances in ET-LMOF-based sensing materials, with an emphasis on photochemical and photophysical mechanisms. We discuss in detail possible energy transfer processes within a MOF structure or between MOFs and guest materials. Finally, the possible sensing applications of the ET-LMOF-based sensors are highlighted.

Abstract
Objective: To identify whether splenectomy for treatment of hypersplenism has any impact on development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) among patients with liver cirrhosis and hepatitis. Methods: Patients who underwent splenectomy for hypersplenism secondary to liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension between January 2008 and December 2012 were included from seven hospitals in China, whereas patients receiving medication treatments for liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension (non-splenectomy) at the same time period among the seven hospitals were included as control groups. In the splenectomy group, all the patients received open or laparoscopic splenectomy with or without pericardial devascularization. In contrast, patients in the control group were treated conservatively for liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension with medicines (non-splenectomy) with no invasive treatments, such as transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, splenectomy or liver transplantation before HCC development. All the patients were routinely screened for HCC development with abdominal ultrasound, liver function and alpha-fetoprotein every 3 to 6 months. To minimize the selection bias, propensity score matching (PSM) was used to match the baseline data of patients among splenectomy versus non-splenectomy groups. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the overall survival and cumulative incidence of HCC development, and the Log-rank test was used to compare the survival or disease rates between the two groups. Univariate and Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to analyze the potential risk factors associated with development of HCC. Results: A total of 871 patients with liver cirrhosis and hypertension were included synchronously from 7 tertiary hospitals. Among them, 407 patients had a history of splenectomy for hypersplenism (splenectomy group), whereas 464 patients who received medical treatment but not splenectomy (non-splenectomy group). After PSM,233 pairs of patients were matched in adjusted cohorts. The cumulative incidence of HCC diagnosis at 1,3,5 and 7 years were 1%,6%,7% and 15% in the splenectomy group, which was significantly lower than 1%,6%,15% and 23% in the non-splenectomy group (HR=0.53,95%CI:0.31 to 0.91,P=0.028). On multivariable analysis, splenectomy was independently associated with decreased risk of HCC development (HR=0.55,95%CI:0.32 to 0.95,P=0.031). The cumulative survival rates of all the patients at 1,3,5,and 7 years were 100%,97%,91%,86% in the splenectomy group, which was similar with that of 100%,97%,92%,84% in the non-splenectomy group (P=0.899). In total,49 patients (12.0%) among splenectomy group and 75 patients (16.2%) in non-splenectomy group developed HCC during the study period, respectively. Compared to patients in non-splenectomy group, patients who developed HCC after splenectomy were unlikely to receive curative resection for HCC (12.2% vs. 33.3%,χ²=7.029, P=0.008). Conclusion: Splenectomy for treatment of hypersplenism may decrease the risk of HCC development among patients with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension.

Abstract
AbstractThe outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19), defined as a worldwide pandemic, has been a public health emergency of international concern. Pudilanxiaoyan oral liquid (PDL), an effective drug of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), is considered to be an effective and alternative means for clinical prevention of COVID-19. The purpose of this study was to identify potential active constituents of PDL, and explore its underlying anti-COVID-19 mechanism using network pharmacology. Integration of target prediction (SwissTargetPrediction and STITCH database) was used to elucidate the active components of PDL. Protein–protein interaction network analyses, gene ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analyses, network construction, and molecular docking were applied to analyze the prospective mechanisms of the predicted target genes. Our results showed that the key active ingredients in PDL were luteolin, apigenin, esculetin, chrysin, baicalein, oroxylin A, baicalin, wogonin, cymaroside, and gallic acid. A majority of the predicted targets were mainly involved in the pathways related to viral infection, lung injury, and inflammatory responses. An in vitro study further inferred that inhibiting the activity of nuclear factor (NF)-кB signaling pathway was a key mechanism by which PDL exerted anti-COVID-19 effects. This study not only provides chemical basis and pharmacology of PDL but also the rationale for strategies to exploring future TCM for COVID-19 therapy.

Abstract
Non-steady state noise has become the main type of workplace noise. Compared with steady state noise, non-steady state noise may cause more serious hearing loss. This paper reviews the new situation of occupational hearing loss caused by non-steady state noise exposure, the overview of international noise exposure assessment standards and new challenges, and the new evidence of non-steady state noise induced hearing loss, so as to provide the basis for the future research of non-steady state noise induced hearing loss.

Abstract
Abnormal osteoclast formation plays a significant part in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). As potent therapeutic biomarkers, microRNAs (miRNAs) have obtained increasing attention. Recently, treatment regimens regarding miRNAs have been implicated in skeletal diseases. The aim of this study is to assess the expression and function of miR-20a during osteoclast proliferation and differentiation and its correlation with bone erosion in RA mice. The expression of miR-20a was observed to be diminished in the ankle tissues of RA mice relative to that in normal controls evaluated by RT-qPCR. Hematoxylin and eosin staining, Safranin O-fast green staining, and tartrateresistant acid phosphatase staining were used to evaluate the effects of miR-20a on RA symptoms. The proliferation and differentiation of osteoclasts, and bone erosion were repressed by agomiR-20a injection. 3'UTR luciferase reporter assays were conducted to validate the putative binding between miR-20a and receptor activation of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL). The protein expression and phosphorylation level of toll-like receptor4 (TLR4)/p38 pathway-related factors were detected by Western blot. miR-20a inhibited proliferation and differentiation potentials to osteoclasts partly through the TLR4/p38 pathway. The current work provides evidence that miR-20a hinders proliferation and differentiation of osteoclasts by targeting RANKL through the TLR4/p38 pathway.

Astragaloside IV Attenuates the Myocardial Injury Caused by Adriamycin by Inhibiting Autophagy. Front Pharmacol 2021; 12:669782. Abstract
Astragaloside IV (ASIV) is the main active component of Astragalus, and can ameliorate cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, apoptosis and fibrosis. In this experiment, we studied how ASIV reduces the cardiotoxicity caused by adriamycin and protects the heart. To this end, rats were randomly divided into the control, ADR, ADR + ASIV and ASIV groups (n = 6). Echocardiography was used to observe cardiac function, HE staining was used to observe myocardial injury, TUNEL staining was used to observe myocardial cell apoptosis, and immunofluorescence and Western blotting was used to observe relevant proteins expression. Experiments have shown that adriamycin can damage heart function in rats, and increase the cell apoptosis index, autophagy level and oxidative stress level. Further results showed that ADR can inhibit the PI3K/Akt pathway. ASIV treatment can significantly improve the cardiac function of rats treated with ADR and regulate autophagy, oxidative stress and apoptosis. Our findings indicate that ASIV may reduce the heart damage caused by adriamycin by activating the PI3K/Akt pathway.
