Abstract
The field of oncology has made remarkable progress over the past two decades. With the aging of the population, the number of cancer survivors is increasing. At the same time, cancer therapy-related cardiovascular toxicity (CTR-CVT) has become an important cause that seriously affects the quality of life and survival of cancer patients. In this context, cardio-oncology, an emerging interdisciplinary field, emerged. The types and treatment strategies of oncological diseases are heterogeneous, and the management of cancer patients also requires the participation of multiple disciplines. Currently, there are still insufficient clinical research and evidence-based practice in the field of cardio-oncology, resulting in a lack of standardization in its diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, the training model of physicians in cardio-oncology is still being explored. This article provides a comprehensive exploration of the opportunities and challenges faced by physicians and researchers in the field of cardio-oncology. It also delves into the prevailing landscape of clinical research in China and outlines the future training model for physicians in cardio-oncology.

Abstract
In practical wastewater, cationic and anionic dyes usually coexist, while synergistic removal of these pollutants is difficult due to their relatively opposite properties. In this work, copper slag (CS) modified hydrochar (CSHC) was designed as functional material by the one-pot method. Based on characterizations, the Fe species in CS can be converted to zero-valent iron and loaded onto a hydrochar substrate. The CSHC exhibited efficient removal rates for both cationic dyes (methylene blue, MB) and anionic dyes (methyl orange, MO), with a maximum capacity of 278.21 and 357.02 mg·g-1, respectively, which was significantly higher than that of unmodified ones. The surface interactions of MB and MO between CSHC were mimicked by the Langmuir model and the pseudo-second-order model. In addition, the magnetic properties of CSHC were also observed, and the good magnetic properties enabled the adsorbent to be quickly separated from the solution with the help of magnets. The adsorption mechanisms include pore filling, complexation, precipitation, and electrostatic attraction. Moreover, the recycling experiments demonstrated the potential regenerative performance of CSHC. All these results shed light on the co-removal of cationic and anionic contaminates via these industrial by-products derived from environmental remediation materials.

Abstract
One-dimensional (1D) conducting materials are of great interest as potential building blocks for integrated nanocircuits. Ternary 1D transition-metal chalcogenides, consisting of M6X6 wires with intercalated A atoms (M = Mo or W; X = S, Se, or Te; A = alkali or rare metals, etc.), have attracted much attention due to their 1D metallic behavior, superconductivity, and mechanical flexibility. However, the conventional solid-state reaction usually produces micrometer-scale bulk crystals, limiting their potential use as nanoscale conductors. Here we demonstrate a versatile method to fabricate indium (In)-intercalated W6Te6 (In-W6Te6) bundles with a nanoscale thickness. We first prepared micrometer-long, crystalline bundles of van der Waals W6Te6 wires using chemical vapor deposition and intercalated In into the crystal via a vapor-phase reaction. Atomic-resolution electron microscopy revealed that In atoms were surrounded by three adjacent W6Te6 wires. First-principles calculations suggested that their wire-by-wire stacking can transform through postgrowth intercalation. Individual In-W6Te6 bundles exhibited metallic behavior, as theoretically predicted. We further identified the vibrational modes by combining polarized Raman spectroscopy and nonresonant Raman calculations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The NF-κB signaling cascade regulates immune response and is often dysregulated in tumor development. UBE2W is a novel type I ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme (E2) whose biological function is still unclear. AIMS This study was designed to investigate whether UBE2W regulates NF-κB signaling pathway and is involved in the progression of experimental colitis. METHODS At the cellular level, the effect of UBE2W on NF-κB transcriptional activity was measured using a dual-luciferase reporter assay. The influence of UBE2W on NF-κB pathway activation and the entry of p65 into the nucleus were determined by Western blot and immunofluorescence analyses, respectively. Moreover, the colitis model was established by administering 2.5% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)/water to UBE2W overexpression, UBE2W-knockdown and control mice. Body weight, stool consistency, colon length and clinical severity were examined. Expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and phosphorylation of p65 and IκB in the colon tissue were measured by qRT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. RESULTS UBE2W inhibited TNFα-induced NF-κB transcription activity, attenuated IκB and p65 phosphorylation, downregulated TNFα and IL-8 expression and blocked the entry of p65 into the nucleus. In the DSS-induced colitis model, UBE2W-knockdown mice had increased weight loss, more serious diarrhea and mucosal injures compared with the control mice. Moreover, phosphorylation of IκB and p65 and the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators such as TNFα, IL-6 were significantly increased in UBE2W knockdown mice. However, these changes were completely reversed in UBE2W overexpression mice. CONCLUSIONS The overexpression of UBE2W ameliorates the severity of DSS-induced colitis, which may be mediated by inhibiting the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators and activation of the NF-κB signaling pathway. These findings provide evidence that UBE2W might have potential therapeutic implications in IBD.

Abstract
The diverse series of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) materials has been employed in various optoelectronic applications, such as photodetectors, light-emitting diodes, and lasers. Typically, the detection or emission range of optoelectronic devices is unique to the bandgap of the active material. Therefore, to improve the capability of these devices, extensive efforts have been devoted to tune the bandgap, such as gating, strain, and dielectric engineering. However, the controllability of these methods is severely limited (typically ≈0.1 eV). In contrast, alloying TMDCs is an effective approach that yields a composition-dependent bandgap and enables light emissions over a wide range. In this study, a color-tunable light-emitting device using compositionally graded TMDC alloys is fabricated. The monolayer WS2 /WSe2 alloy grown by chemical vapor deposition shows a spatial gradient in the light-emission energy, which varies from 2.1 to 1.7 eV. This alloy is incorporated in an electrolyte-based light-emitting device structure that can tune the recombination zone laterally. Thus, a continuous and reversible color-tunable light-emitting device is successfully fabricated by controlling the light-emitting positions. The results provide a new approach for exploring monolayer semiconductor-based broadband optical applications.

Circadian nuclear receptor Rev-erbalpha is expressed by platelets and potentiates platelet activation and thrombus formation. Eur Heart J 2022. Abstract
Abstract
Background
Adverse cardiovascular events have day/night patterns with peaks in the morning, potentially related to endogenous circadian clock control of platelet activation. Circadian nuclear receptor Rev-erbα is an essential and negative component of the circadian clock.
Purpose
We aim to investigate the expression profile and biological function of Rev-erbα in platelets.
Methods and results
Here we report the presence and functions of circadian nuclear receptor Rev-erbα in human and mouse platelets. Both human and mouse platelet Rev-erbα showed a circadian rhythm that positively correlated with platelet aggregation. Global Rev-erbα knockout and platelet-specific Rev-erbα knockout mice exhibited defective in hemostasis as assessed by prolonged tail-bleeding times. Rev-erbα deletion also reduced ferric chloride-induced carotid arterial occlusive thrombosis, prevented collagen/epinephrine-induced pulmonary thromboembolism, and protected against microvascular microthrombi obstruction and infarct expansion in an acute myocardial infarction model. In vitro thrombus formation assessed by CD41-labeled platelet fluorescence intensity was significantly reduced in Rev-erbα knockout mouse blood. Platelets from Rev-erbα knockout mice exhibited impaired agonist-induced aggregation responses, integrin αIIbβ3 activation and α-granule release. Consistently, pharmacological inhibition of Rev-erbα by specific antagonists decreased platelet activation markers in both mouse and human platelets. Mechanistically, mass spectrometry and co-immunoprecipitation analyses revealed that Rev-erbα potentiated platelet activation via oligophrenin-1-mediated RhoA/ERM (ezrin/radixin/moesin) pathway.
Conclusion
We provide the first evidence that circadian protein Rev-erbα is functionally expressed in platelets and potentiates platelet activation and thrombus formation. Rev-erbα may serve as a novel therapeutic target for managing thrombosis-based cardiovascular disease.

Abstract
The control of crystal polymorphism and exploration of metastable, two-dimensional, 1T'-phase, transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have received considerable research attention. 1T'-phase TMDs are expected to offer various opportunities for the study of basic condensed matter physics and for its use in important applications, such as devices with topological states for quantum computing, low-resistance contact for semiconducting TMDs, energy storage devices, and as hydrogen evolution catalysts. However, due to the high energy difference and phase change barrier between 1T' and the more stable 2H-phase, there are few methods that can be used to obtain monolayer 1T'-phase TMDs. Here, we report on the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of 1T'-phase WS2 atomic layers from gaseous precursors, i.e., H2S and WF6, with alkali metal assistance. The gaseous nature of the precursors, reducing properties of H2S, and presence of Na+, which acts as a countercation, provided an optimal environment for the growth of 1T'-phase WS2, resulting in the formation of high-quality submillimeter-sized crystals. The crystal structure was characterized by atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy, and the zigzag chain structure of W atoms, which is characteristic of the 1T' structure, was clearly observed. Furthermore, the grown 1T'-phase WS2 showed superconductivity with the transition temperature in the 2.8-3.4 K range and large upper critical field anisotropy. Thus, alkali metal assisted gas-source CVD growth is useful for realizing large-scale, high-quality, phase-engineered TMD atomic layers via a bottom-up synthesis.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Sepsis is a significant cause of mortality, and cardiac dysfunction is one of the vital predictors for mortality of sepsis. However, the factors associated with the susceptibility to sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction remain unclear. Disruption of circadian rhythms can profoundly influence cardiac health; however, to the knowledge of the authors, the relationship of circadian disruption to cardiac involvement in patients with sepsis is unknown.
Purpose
We aim to investigate the impact of circadian disruption on the susceptibility to sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction.
Methods
Study patient data were obtained from the image database of EARLY-MYO-SEPSIS (EARLY assessment of MYOcardial tissue characteristics by multi-modal imaging in SEPSIS) registry, which was a prospective, multi-center registry of sepsis patients who have undergone cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and echocardiography from 8 sites (clinical trial number NCT04513795). Cardiac involvement was evaluated using a comprehensive assessment comprising of echocardiography (with global longitudinal strain calculation), cardiac MRI and cardiac biomarker evaluation. Logistic regression was performed to identify independent predictors of left ventricular systolic dysfunction in sepsis.
Results
A total of 216 intensive care unit patients with sepsis was enrolled in the present analysis. Septic patients with a history of circadian disruption (i.e., sleep insufficiency <6 hours) presented more cardiac involvements (as indicated by edema on the cardiac MRI along with cardiac deformation and increased cardiac biomarkers) compared with those without circadian disruption history. Moreover, septic patients with a history of circadian disruption had increased mortality and incidence of heart failure. A history of circadian disruption was identified as an independent predictor of left ventricular systolic dysfunction in sepsis.
Conclusions
Our data from EARLY-MYO-SEPSIS registry demonstrated a previously unappreciated circadian sensitivity to sepsis-induced cardiac dysfunction.

Abstract
Room-temperature chiral light sources whose optical helicity can be electrically switched are one of the most important devices for future optical quantum information processing. The emerging valley degree of freedom in monolayer semiconductors allows generation of chiral luminescence via valley polarization. However, relevant valley-polarized light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have only been achieved at low temperatures (typically below 80 K). Here, a room-temperature chiral LED with strained transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers is realized. Spatially resolved polarization spectroscopy reveals that strain effects are crucial to yielding robust valley-polarized electroluminescence. The broken threefold rotational symmetry of strained monolayers induce inequivalent valley drifts at the K/K' valleys, resulting in different amounts of spin recombination driven by electric fields. Based on this scenario, ideally strained conditions are designed for LEDs on flexible substrates, in which the helicity of room-temperature valley-polarized electroluminescence is electrically tuned. The results provide a new pathway for practical chiral light sources based on monolayer semiconductors.

Abstract
Emerging transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) offer an attractive platform for investigating functional light-emitting devices, such as flexible devices, quantum and chiral devices, high-performance optical modulators, and ultralow threshold lasers. In these devices, the key operation is to control the light-emitting position, that is, the spatial position of the recombination zone to generate electroluminescence, which permits precise light guides/passes/confinement to ensure favorable device performance. Although various structures of TMDC light-emitting devices have been demonstrated, including the transistor configuration and heterostructured diodes, it is still difficult to tune the light-emitting position precisely owing to the structural device complexity. In this study, we fabricated two-terminal light-emitting devices with chemically synthesized WSe2, MoSe2, and WS2 monolayers, and performed direct observations of their electroluminescence, from which we discovered a divergence in their light-emitting positions. Subsequently, we propose a method to associate spatial electroluminescence imaging with transport properties among different samples; consequently, a common rule for determining the locations of recombination zones is revealed. Owing to dynamic carrier accumulations and p-i-n junction formations, the light-emitting positions in electrolyte-based devices can be tuned continuously. The proposed method will expand the device applicability for designing functional optoelectronic applications based on TMDCs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Diagnostics to identify tuberculosis infection are limited. We aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy and safety of the novel ESAT6-CFP10 (EC) skin test for tuberculosis infection in Chinese adults. METHODS We conducted two randomized, parallel-group clinical trials in healthy participants and tuberculosis patients. All participants were tested with the T-SPOT.TB test, then received EC skin test and tuberculin skin test (TST). The diameter of skin indurations and/or redness at injection sites were measured at different time periods. A Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) model was also established to assess the diagnosis of tuberculosis infection using EC skin test. RESULTS In total, 777 healthy participants and 96 tuberculosis patients were allocated to receive the EC skin test at 1.0μg/0.1ml or 0.5μg/0.1ml. The area under the curve was 0.95 (95% CI, 0.91-0.97) from the EC skin test at a dose of 1.0μg/0.1ml at 24-72 hours. Compared to the T-SPOT.TB test, the EC skin test demonstrated similar sensitivity (87.5, 95% CI 77.8-97.2 versus 86.5, 95% CI 79.5-93.4) and specificity (98.9, 95% CI 96.0-99.9 versus 96.1, 95% CI 93.5-97.8). Among BCG vaccinated participants, the EC skin test had high consistency with the T-SPOT.TB test (96.3, 95% CI, 92.0-100.0). No serious adverse events related to the EC skin test were observed. CONCLUSIONS The EC skin test demonstrated both high specificity and sensitivity at a dose of 1.0μg/0.1ml, comparable to the T-SPOT.TB test. The diagnostic accuracy of the EC skin test was not impacted by BCG vaccination.

Abstract
To maximize the potential of transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) in device applications, the development of a sophisticated technique for stable and highly efficient carrier doping is critical. Here, we report the efficient n-type doping of monolayer MoS2 using KOH/benzo-18-crown-6, resulting in a doped TMDC that is air-stable. MoS2 field-effect transistors show an increase in on-current of three orders of magnitude and degenerate the n-type behaviour with high air-stability for ∼1 month as the dopant concentration increases. Transport measurements indicate a high electron density of 3.4 × 1013 cm-2 and metallic-type temperature dependence for highly doped MoS2. First-principles calculations support electron doping via surface charge transfer from the K/benzo-18-crown-6 complex to monolayer MoS2. Patterned doping is demonstrated to improve the contact resistance in MoS2-based devices.

Abstract
The development of bulk synthetic processes to prepare functional nanomaterials is crucial to achieve progress in fundamental and applied science. Transition-metal chalcogenide (TMC) nanowires, which are one-dimensional (1D) structures having three-atom diameters and van der Waals surfaces, have been reported to possess a 1D metallic nature with great potential in electronics and energy devices. However, their mass production remains challenging. Here, a wafer-scale synthesis of highly crystalline transition-metal telluride nanowires is demonstrated by chemical vapor deposition. The present technique enables formation of either aligned, atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) sheets or random networks of three-dimensional (3D) bundles, both composed of individual nanowires. These nanowires exhibit an anisotropic 1D optical response and superior conducting properties. The findings not only shed light on the controlled and large-scale synthesis of conductive thin films but also provide a platform for the study on physics and device applications of nanowire-based 2D and 3D crystals.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the influencing factors on perinatal mortality of pregnant women with HIV infection to reduce the mother-to-child transmission in Sichuan province. Methods: In this study, 4 786 perinatal infants of the HIV-infected pregnant women were included. Related data on perinatal epidemiology was reported by all the 183 medical and health care institutions where the HIV prevention of mother-to-child transmission program was initiated in 2005-2016. Univariate χ(2) test and multivariate logistic regression methods were used to analyze the perinatal mortality outcomes and influencing factors. Results: The overall perinatal mortality rate was 25.7‰ (123/4 786) among HIV-infected pregnant women, with annual downwarding trend (trend χ(2)=32.220, P=0.000). Perinatal mortality rate appeared the highest (χ(2)=4.130, P=0.042), with more fetal deaths and stillbirths and less early neonatal death within 7 days in Liangshan county (χ(2)=29.626, P=0.000). Results from the multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that fewer pregnant numbers would contribute to the, lower perinatal mortality rate (1-2 pregnancies OR=0.417, 95%CI: 0.184-0.943; 3-4 pregnancies OR=0.447, 95%CI: 0.223-0.895). Perinatal deaths were more likely to be prevented if LPV/r protease inhibitor-based triple antiviral therapy was provided (OR=0.530, 95%CI: 0.285- 0.986) or delivery was taken place in the hospital (hospital of municipal-level and above OR=0.222, 95%CI:0.098-0.499; county-level hospital OR=0.282, 95%CI: 0.166-0.480; township-level hospital OR=0.134, 95%CI: 0.031-0.586) among HIV-infected pregnant women. However, premature delivery or neonatal asphyxia would increase the risk of perinatal mortality (premature delivery OR=8.285, 95%CI: 5.073-13.533; neonatal asphyxia OR=9.624, 95%CI: 4.625-20.028). Conclusions: The perinatal mortality rate of HIV-infected pregnant women appeared significantly higher than that in the province or the whole country. Strategies involving LPV/r-based triple antiviral therapy, promotion of hospital delivery, reducing the incidence rates of premature deliveries and neonatal asphyxia, should be strengthened.

[HIV positive rate from different detection methods in medical institutions in China: a Meta analysis]. ZHONGHUA YU FANG YI XUE ZA ZHI [CHINESE JOURNAL OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE] 2020; 54:1289-1294. [PMID: 33147931 DOI: 10.3760/cma.j.cn112150-20200718-01025] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/05/2022]
Abstract
Objective: To analyze the HIV positive detection rate from different detection channels in Chinese medical institutions. Methods: A Meta-analysis was conducted. First of all, the literature on HIV testing of medical institutions in China was systematically searched on China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, VIP Information Chinese journal Service platform and PubMed. Secondly, a self-made information table was used to collect the basic information, HIV positive number and test number of the literature. Finally, R 4.0.2 software was used to calculate the pooled HIV detection rate and 95%CI of the whole population, detection approaches subgroups and regions subgroups, and then the forest map was drawn. Funnel plot was used to analyze publication bias. Results: A total of 45 studies which covered 22 provinces. Meta analysis showed that the pooled HIV positive rate was 0.82‰ (95%CI: 0.62‰-1.04‰). Subgroup analysis showed that the HIV positive rate of STD outpatient was the highest (3.01‰ (95%CI: 1.76‰-4.58‰), followed by other patients (1.43‰ (95%CI: 1.00‰-1.93‰)). The HIV positive rate of western China was the highest (1.14‰ (95%CI: 0.72‰-1.63‰)). The HIV positive rate in 2008-2017 was higher than in 2000-2007. The Egger test indicated no publication bias (t=-0.737, P=0.465). Conclusion: The HIV positive detection rate of patients in medical institutions in China was at a low level, but the positive rate of patients in STD clinics was relatively high. Therefore, the HIV testing should be further expanded in this population. Secondly, HIV screening should be strengthened for other patients.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
The outcomes and costs of trans-catheter closure (TC) of paravalvular leak (PVL) compared with surgical closure (SC) are rarely described.
Purpose
The aim of the study was to assess the outcomes and hospital costs of patients who underwent TC or SC of PVL in our center.
Methods
Patients who underwent TC and SC of PVL between Jan. 2016 and Dec. 2019 were enrolled. Baseline characteristics, procedural, in-hospital and mid-term outcomes and hospital costs were compared.
Results
A total of 141 patients were studied (TC, n=65 and SC, n=76). The patients were elder in TC group (56.8±12.8 years vs. 50.1±12.8 years, p=0.002). Technical success was higher in SC group (83.1% vs. 98.7%, p<0.001). Procedure room time (93±38 min vs. 395±132 min, p<0.001), intensive care unit time (0 h vs. 25 h, p<0.001), length of stay from hospitalization to discharge (7 days vs. 21 days, p<0.001) and costs (¥45090±19343 vs. ¥164165±94300, p<0.001) were significantly less in TC group. After risk adjustment, there was no significant differences between in 30 days survival between TC group and SC group. However, the residual PVLs were less in SC group (43.1% vs. 12.0%, p=0.012). At a median follow-up of 21 months, there was a trend towards reduce all-cause death following TC versus SC (OR=0.054, 95% CI: 0.070 to 0.445, p=0.007).
Conclusions
SC for PVL is associated with higher technical rates and less residual shunt. But, the shorter length of stay and lower resources use with TC group significantly reduce hospital costs. In addition, TC achieve a better mid-term results in survival.

Global longitudinal diastolic strain rate as a novel marker for predicting adverse outcomes in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy by cardiac magnetic resonance tissue tracking. Clin Radiol 2020; 76:78.e19-78.e25. [PMID: 32948315 DOI: 10.1016/j.crad.2020.08.019] [Citation(s) in RCA: 7] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.8] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/14/2020] [Accepted: 08/19/2020] [Indexed: 02/08/2023]
Abstract
AIM To examine the prognostic value of global peak diastolic strain rate (PDSR) derived from cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) tissue tracking (CMR-TT) in predicting adverse outcomes in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 98 patients diagnosed with HCM (44 patients had left ventricle [LV] outflow tract obstruction [LVOTO] and 54 patients did not) were enrolled and followed for the specified endpoint. LV global myocardial mechanics was assessed in all participants using CMR-TT at study entry. RESULTS Compared with the non-obstructive subgroup, the obstructive subgroup demonstrated deteriorated magnitude of LV global radial, circumferential, and longitudinal PDSR (all p<0.05). After a mean follow-up period of 4.5 years, 24 patients reached an endpoint before the end of the study. Furthermore, when using the specified cut-off value (0.33 1/s) of longitudinal PDSR, the Kaplan-Meier curve demonstrated that patients with lower longitudinal PDSR had a significantly lower freedom from major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) compared with their counterparts in the non-obstructive, obstructive, and overall cohorts (all log-rank p<0.05). Multivariable analysis showed that longitudinal PDSR remained the strongest predictor of outcome after adjusting for baseline and CMR variables (hazard ratio, 2.65; 95% confidence interval, 2.21-11.44; p<0.05). CONCLUSION CMR-TT-derived longitudinal PDSR is probably considered a novel and easy-to-perform marker for predicting adverse outcomes in HCM patients, which is beneficial to risk stratification. Further confirmatory studies are needed.

Abstract
Objective: To determine whether 60 Gy is superior to standard 50 Gy for definitive concurrent chemoradiation(CCRT) in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) using modern radiation technology in a phase Ⅲ prospective randomized trial. Methods: From April 2013 to May 2017, 331 patients from 22 hospitals who were pathologically confirmed with stage ⅢA-ⅣA ESCC were randomized to 60 Gy or 50 Gy with random number table. Total of 305 patients were analyzed, including 152 in 60 Gy group and 153 in 50 Gy group. The median age was 63 years, 242(79.3%) males and 63(20.7%) females. The median length of primary tumor was 5.6 cm. The clinical characteristics between two groups were comparable. All patients were delivered 2 Gy per fraction, 5 fractions per week. Concurrent weekly chemotherapy with docetaxel (25 mg/m(2)) and cisplatin (25 mg/m(2)) and 2 cycles consolidation chemotherapy with docetaxel (70 mg/m(2)) and cisplatin (25 mg/m(2), d1-3) were administrated. The primary endpoint was local/regional progression-free survival (LRPFS). The data were compared with Pearson chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. Results: At a median follow-up of 27.3 months, the disease progression rate was 37.5% (57/152), 43.8% (67/153) in the high and standard-dose group, respectively (χ(2)=1.251, P=0.263). The 1, 2, 3-year LRPFS rate was 75.4%, 56.8%, 52.1% and 74.2%, 58.4%, 50.1%, respectively (HR: 0.95, 95%CI: 0.69-1.31, P=0.761). The 1, 2, 3-year overall survival rate was 84.1%, 64.8%, 54.1% and 85.4%, 62.9%, 54.0%, respectively (HR: 0.98, 95%CI: 0.71-1.38, P=0.927). The 1, 2, 3-year progression-free survival rate was 70.8%, 54.2%, 48.5% and 65.5%, 51.9%, 45.1%, respectively (HR: 0.93, 95%CI: 0.68-1.26, P=0.621). The incidence rates in toxicities between the two groups were similar except for higher rate of severe pneumonitis in high dose group (χ(2)=11.596, P=0.021). Conclusions: The efficacy in disease control is similar between 60 Gy and 50 Gy using modern radiation technology concurrent with chemotherapy for ESCC. The 50 Gy should be recommended as the regular radiation dose with CCRT for ESCC.

Abstract
Group-III monochalcogenides of two-dimensional (2D) layered materials have attracted widespread attention among scientists due to their unique electronic performance and interesting chemical and physical properties. Indium sulfide (InS) is attracting increasing interest from scientists because it has two distinct crystal structures. However, studies on the synthesis of highly crystalline, large-area, and atomically thin-film InS have not been reported thus far. Here, the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) synthesis method of atomic InS crystals has been reported in this paper. The direct chemical vapour phase reaction of metal oxides with chalcogen precursors produces a large-sized hexagonal crystal structure and atomic-thickness InS flakes or films. The InS atomic films are merged with a plurality of triangular InS crystals that are uniform and entire and have surface areas of 1 cm2 and controllable thicknesses in bilayers or trilayers. The properties of the as-grown highly crystalline samples were characterized by spectroscopic and microscopic measurements. The ion-gel gated InS field-effect transistors (FETs) reveal n-type transport behavior, and have an on-off current ratio of >103 and a room-temperature electron mobility of ∼2 cm2 V-1 s-1. Moreover, our CVD InS can be transferred from mica to any substrates, so various 2D materials can be reassembled into vertically stacked heterostructures, thus facilitating the development of heterojunctions and exploration of the properties and applications of their interactions.

Abstract
Radiation therapy (RT) is an effective treatment for cancer. Approximately, 70% of cancer patients receive RT in China. The immune-modulating effect of radiation therapy have gained considerable interest in recent years and there have been multiple reports of synergy between radiation and immunotherapy. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) are a group of T cell subsets with immunosuppressive function, which is correlated with cancer. Tregs are involved in the pathogenesis, development, treatment and prognosis of tumors by cell-cell contact, cytokines, and cell metabolism. Based on the immunological characteristics of Tregs, this article reviews the interaction between RT and immune molecules, aiming to provide new ideas for RT combined with immunotherapy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the regulatory effect and its mechanism of chrysophanol (CP) on renal injury and immune response in immunoglobin A (IgA) nephropathy rats. METHODS IgA nephropathy rat model was established by the method of lipopolysaccharide + bovine serum protein + carbon tetrachloride. Then the rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: control group, IgA group, IgA+low, medium and high dose of CP groups(2.5, 5 and 10 mg/kg for each group respectively). IgA+CP groups were intraperitoneally injected with different doses of chrysophanol once a day for 4 weeks, and the control group and IgA group were given isovolumetric saline. Urine protein content, serum creatinine and urea nitrogen were detected at 24 h after the administration of drugs. Kidney histopathological damage and apoptosis were measured by HE and TUNEL staining. The expression levels of Caspase-3 and Caspase-9 were detected by RT-PCR and Western blot; The contents of malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and (glutathione peroxidase, Gpx) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression of interleukin-1β, -6 (IL-1β, IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) in serum and kidney tissue were measured by ELISA and Western blot, respectively. The mRNA and protein expression levels of toll-like receptro 4 (TLR4), nuclear factor-κB P65 (NF-κB P65) were also detected by RT-PCR and Western blot, and vascular cell adherin molecule (VCAM-1) protein level was deteted by Western blot. RESULTS In IgA nephropathy rats, the administration of CP reduced proteinuria, serum creatinine and urea nitrogen in a dose-dependent manner (P < 0.01). It also improved the pathological damage of kidney tissue, reduced the apoptosis rate (P < 0.01), and decreased the mRNA and protein expression levels of apoptosis-related proteins Caspase-3 and Caspase-9 (P < 0.01). CP inhibited MDA production while increased the activities of antioxidant enzymes Gpx and SOD (P < 0.01), and decreased the levels of serum and protein expression of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α (P < 0.01), as well as the expression levels of TLR4, NF-κB P65 and VCAM-1 (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION Chrysophanol could play a protective role in IgA nephropathy rats, and its mechanism may be related to alleviating kidney injury and regulating immune response.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the correlation between gene polymorphism and opioid efficacy in patients with gastric or intestinal cancer. PATIENTS AND METHODS Fifty-nine patients who underwent laparoscopic surgery for gastric or intestinal cancer under general anesthesia were included and randomly divided into oxycodone (n=30) and sufentanil groups (n=29) by reproducible random number generation method. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of four alleles: μ-opioid receptor gene OPRM1 A118G, cytochrome P450 (CPY450) enzyme system: CPY3A4*1G, CYP3A5*3, and CYP2D6*10 were detected by PCR-pyrosequencing. Patients in sufentanil group received intravenous sufentanil injection during anesthesia induction, intraoperative maintenance, and postoperative analgesia, while those in oxycodone group received oxycodone. Patients' postoperative VAS score, opioid use, and prevalence of adverse reactions were recorded. RESULTS The genotype distribution of OPRM1 A118G, CYP3A4*1G, CYP3A5*3, and CYP2D6*10 in Chinese gastric cancer/intestinal cancer patients accorded with the Hardy-Weinberg law (p>0.05). OPRM1 A118G polymorphism correlated with postoperative VAS score and medication dosage, in oxycodone group (p<0.05), while it didn't with those of sufentanil group. The VAS scores in GG group were higher than that in AA group and AG group at T6-T9, (p<0.05); the postoperative pain remedies times in GG group were more than that in the AA and AG groups (p=0.002). CYP3A4*1G polymorphism related to postoperative VAS score, medication dosage and prevalence of adverse reactions in sufentanil group (p<0.05), while it didn't with those of oxycodone group (p>0.05). The total intraoperative medication in AA group was less than that in GG and GA groups (p<0.01), with a higher prevalence of respiratory depression (p=0.01). Nor was there any correlation of CYP3A5*3 and CYP2D6*10 polymorphisms with the efficacy, postoperative VAS score, pain remedies times, postoperative 24 h medication dosage, or prevalence of adverse reactions in oxycodone and sufentanil groups. CONCLUSIONS Gene polymorphism affects the efficacy and adverse reactions of opioids in patients undergoing laparoscopic gastric or intestinal cancer surgery.

Exciton Polarization and Renormalization Effect for Optical Modulation in Monolayer Semiconductors. ACS NANO 2019; 13:9218-9226. Abstract
The ideal quantum confinement structure of monolayer semiconductors offers prominent optical modulation capabilities that are mediated by enhanced many-body interactions. Herein, we establish an electrolyte-gating method for tuning the luminescence properties that are in transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) monolayers. We fabricate electric double-layer capacitors on TMDC/graphite heterostructures to investigate electric-field- and carrier-density-dependent photoluminescence. The exciton peak energy initially shows a slight quadratic red shift of ∼1 meV without carrier accumulations, which is caused by the quantum-confined Stark effect. In contrast, the exciton resonance exhibits a larger red shift up to 10 meV with the accumulated carrier density above 1013 cm-2. These results indicate that the optical transitions can be largely modulated by the carrier density control in S- and Se-based TMDCs, as triggered by the doping-induced band gap renormalization effect. To further inspire this modulation capability, we also apply our method to electrolyte-based TMDC light-emitting devices. Biasing solely in electrolyte-induced p-i-n junctions yields pronounced red shifts up to 40 meV for exciton and trion electroluminescence. Consequently, our approach reveals that the doping effects in the high-carrier-density regimes are potentially significant for efficient optical modulation in monolayer semiconductors.

Two-dimensional ground-state mapping of a Mott-Hubbard system in a flexible field-effect device. SCIENCE ADVANCES 2019; 5:eaav7282. Abstract
A Mott insulator sometimes induces unconventional superconductivity in its neighbors when doped and/or pressurized. Because the phase diagram should be strongly related to the microscopic mechanism of the superconductivity, it is important to obtain the global phase diagram surrounding the Mott insulating state. However, the parameter available for controlling the ground state of most Mott insulating materials is one-dimensional owing to technical limitations. Here, we present a two-dimensional ground-state mapping for a Mott insulator using an organic field-effect device by simultaneously tuning the bandwidth and bandfilling. The observed phase diagram showed many unexpected features such as an abrupt first-order superconducting transition under electron doping, a recurrent insulating phase in the heavily electron-doped region, and a nearly constant superconducting transition temperature in a wide parameter range. These results are expected to contribute toward elucidating one of the standard solutions for the Mott-Hubbard model.

Decreased expression of long noncoding RNA XLOC_013703 promotes cell growth via NF-κB pathway in multiple myeloma. IUBMB Life 2019; 71:1240-1251. Abstract
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are dysregulated in cancer and involved in oncogenic or tumor inhibitory processes. The aim of the study was to investigate the expression pattern of lncRNA XLOC_013703 in multiple myeloma (MM) and to evaluate its biological role and potential significance. We found that XLOC_013703 was significantly decreased in CD138 positive plasma cells and serum of MM patients compared to normal controls, and the decreased XLOC_013703 expression was correlated with β2-MG, serum-free light chain (s-FLC) and revised international staging system. RNA-fluorescence in situ hybridization results revealed that XLOC_013703 was distributed both in the nucleus and in the cytoplasm of MM cells including H929, RPMI8226, and U266. Overexpression of XLOC_013703 inhibited the proliferation of U266 cells and blocked the cell cycle in G1 stage, thus contributing to MM cell apoptosis. By contrast, knockdown of XLOC_013703 promoted the growth of H929 cells. Western blot analysis confirmed that the expression of p-IκBα and nuclear P65 was substantially increased in shRNA transfection groups compared to control groups, whereas overexpression of XLOC_013703 reduced these expressions. In conclusion, we confirmed that the decreased expression of a novel lncRNA, XLOC_013703, in MM. XLOC_013703 was involved in MM cell survival and proliferation via nuclear factor-κB pathway which represents a potential therapeutic target for MM. © 2019 IUBMB Life, 71(9):1240-1251, 2019.

OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy and safety of intradialytic exercise for haemodialysis patients. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES Databases, including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, China Biology Medicine and China National Knowledge Infrastructure, were screened from inception to March 2017. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Randomised controlled trials (RCTs) aimed at comparing the efficacy and safety of intradialytic exercise versus no exercise in adult patients on haemodialysis for at least 3 months. A minimum exercise programme period of 8 weeks. DATA EXTRACTION Study characteristics and study quality domains were reviewed. Studies were selected, and data extracted by two reviewers. DATA ANALYSIS The pooled risk ratios and mean differences (MDs) with 95% CIs for dichotomous data and continuous data were calculated, respectively. RESULTS A total of 27 RCTs involving 1215 subjects were analysed. Compared with no exercise, intradialytic exercise increased dialysis adequacy (Kt/V) (MD 0.07, 95% CI 0.01 to 0.12, p=0.02) and maximum volume of oxygen that the body can use during physical exertion peak oxygen consumption (MD 4.11, 95% CI 2.94 to 5.27, p<0.0001), alleviated depression standardised mean difference (-1.16, 95% CI -1.86 to -0.45, p=0.001) and improved physical component summary-short form-36 (SF-36) level (MD 7.72, 95% CI 1.93 to 13.51, p=0.009). Also, intradialytic exercise could significantly reduce systolic blood pressure (MD -4.87, 95% CI -9.20 to -0.55, p=0.03) as well as diastolic blood pressure (MD -4.11, 95% CI -6.50 to -1.72, p=0.0007). However, intradialytic exercise could not improve mental component summary-SF-36 level (MD 3.05, 95% CI -1.47 to 7.57, p=0.19). There was no difference in the incidence of adverse events between the intradialytic exercise and control groups. Abstract
Recently, 2D materials of indium selenide (InSe) layers have attracted much attention from the scientific community due to their high mobility transport and fascinating physical properties. To date, reports on the synthesis of high-quality and scalable InSe atomic films are limited. Here, a synthesis of InSe atomic layers by vapor phase selenization of In2 O3 in a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system, resulting in large-area monolayer flakes or thin films, is reported. The atomic films are continuous and uniform over a large area of 1 × 1 cm2 , comprising of primarily InSe monolayers. Spectroscopic and microscopic measurements reveal the highly crystalline nature of the synthesized InSe monolayers. The ion-gel-gated field-effect transistors based on CVD InSe monolayers exhibit n-type channel behaviors, where the field effect electron mobility values can be up to ≈30 cm2 V-1 s-1 along with an on/off current ratio, of >104 at room temperature. In addition, the graphene can serve as a protection layer to prevent the oxidation between InSe and the ambient environment. Meanwhile, the synthesized InSe films can be transferred to arbitrary substrates, enabling the possibility of reassembly of various 2D materials into vertically stacked heterostructures, prompting research efforts to probe its characteristics and applications.

Abstract
Reducing the dimensions of materials is one of the key approaches to discovering novel optical phenomena. The recent emergence of 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) has provided a promising platform for exploring new optoelectronic device applications, with their tunable electronic properties, structural controllability, and unique spin valley-coupled systems. This progress report provides an overview of recent advances in TMDC-based light-emitting devices discussed from several aspects in terms of device concepts, material designs, device fabrication, and their diverse functionalities. First, the advantages of TMDCs used in light-emitting devices and their possible functionalities are presented. Second, conventional approaches for fabricating TMDC light-emitting devices are emphasized, followed by introducing a newly established, versatile method for generating light emission in TMDCs. Third, current growing technologies for heterostructure fabrication, in which distinct TMDCs are vertically stacked or laterally stitched, are explained as a possible means for designing high-performance light-emitting devices. Finally, utilizing the topological features of TMDCs, the challenges for controlling circularly polarized light emission and its device applications are discussed from both theoretical and experimental points of view.

Effects of dietary energy and lipase levels on nutrient digestibility, digestive physiology and noxious gas emission in weaning pigs. ASIAN-AUSTRALASIAN JOURNAL OF ANIMAL SCIENCES 2018; 31:1963-1973. [PMID: 29879828 PMCID: PMC6212735 DOI: 10.5713/ajas.18.0087] [Citation(s) in RCA: 6] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Download PDF] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 01/26/2018] [Accepted: 05/10/2018] [Indexed: 12/02/2022]
Abstract
Objective This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary energy and lipase supplementation on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, serum profiles, intestinal morphology, small intestinal digestive enzyme activities, biochemical index of intestinal development and noxious gas emission in weaning pigs. Methods A total of 240 weaning pigs ([Yorkshire×Landrace]×Duroc) with an average body weight (BW) of 7.3±0.12 kg were used in this 28-d experiment. Weaning pigs were randomly allocated to 4 dietary treatments in a 2×2 factorial arrangement with 2 levels of energy (net energy = 2,470 kcal/kg for low energy diet and 2,545 kcal/kg for basal diet) and 2 levels of lipase (0 and 1.5 U/g of lipase) according to BW and sex. There were 6 replications (pens) per treatment and 10 pigs per pen (5 barrows and 5 gilts). Results Weaning pigs fed the low energy diet had lower (p<0.05) gain-to-feed ratio (G:F) throughout the experiment, apparent digestibility of dry matter, nitrogen, ether extract, and gross energy during d 0 to 14, average daily gain during d 15 to 28, lipase activity in duodenum and ileum and protein/DNA in jejunum (p<0.05), respectively. Lipase supplementation had no effect on growth performance but affected apparent nutrient digestibility (p<0.05) on d 14 and enhanced lipase activity in the duodenum and ileum and protease activity in duodenum and jejunum of pigs (p<0.05) fed the low energy diet. Lipase reduced serum low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglyceride (TG), NH3 production (p<0.05) from the feces. Conclusion The low energy diet decreased G:F throughout the experiment and nutrient digestibility during d 0 to 14 as well as lipase activity in duodenum and ileum. Lipase supplementation increased nutrient digestibility during d 0 to 14 and exerted beneficial effects on lipase activity in duodenum and ileum as well as protease activity in duodenum and jejunum, while reduced serum LDL-C, TG and fecal NH3.

Multiple ATP-binding cassette transporters are involved in insecticide resistance in the small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus. INSECT MOLECULAR BIOLOGY 2017; 26:343-355. Abstract
ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are membrane-bound proteins involved in the movement of various substrates, including drugs and insecticides, across the lipid membrane. Demonstration of the role of human ABC transporters in multidrug resistance has led to speculation that they might be an important mechanism controlling the fate of insecticides in insects. However, the role of ABC transporters in insects remains largely unknown. The small brown planthopper, Laodelphax striatellus Fallén, has developed resistance to most of the insecticides used for its control. Our goals were to identify the ABC transporters in La. striatellus and to examine their involvement in resistance mechanisms, using related strains resistant to chlorpyrifos, deltamethrin and imidacloprid, compared with the susceptible strain. Based on the transcriptome of La. striatellus, 40 full-length ABC transporters belonging to the ABCA-ABCH subfamilies were identified. Quantitative PCR revealed that over 20% of genes were significantly up-regulated in different resistant strains, and eight genes from the ABCB/C/D/G subfamilies were up-regulated in all three resistant strains, compared with the susceptible strain. Furthermore, synergism studies showed verapamil significantly enhanced insecticide toxicity in various resistant strains but not in the susceptible strain. These results suggest that ABC transporters might be involved in resistance to multiple insecticides in La. striatellus.

A Versatile and Simple Approach to Generate Light Emission in Semiconductors Mediated by Electric Double Layers. ADVANCED MATERIALS (DEERFIELD BEACH, FLA.) 2017; 29:1606918. Abstract
The light-emitting device is the primary device for current light sources. In principle, conventional light-emitting devices need heterostructures and/or intentional carrier doping to form a p-n junction. This junction formation is, however, very difficult to achieve for most emerging semiconductors, and the fabrication of light-emitting devices is invariably a significant challenge. This study proposes a versatile and simple approach to realize light-emitting devices. This proposed device requires only a semiconducting film with two electrodes that are covered with an electrolyte. This unique structure achieves light emission at a voltage slightly larger than the bandgap energy of materials. This study applies this concept to emerging direct bandgap semiconductors, such as transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers and zinc oxide single crystals. These devices generate obvious light emission and provide sufficient evidence of the formation of a dynamic p-i-n junction or tunneling junction, presenting a versatile technique to develop optoelectronic devices.

Abstract
Alisma orientale (Sam.) Juzep. (Alismataceae) is a traditional and famous Chinese medicinal herb. Its rhizomes, which possess versatile bioactivities, are commonly used to treat oliguria, edema, gonorrhea with turbid urine, leukorrhea, diarrhea and dizziness. Approximately 120 compounds have been isolated from A. orientale. Terpenoids have been identified as A. orientale's characteristic constituents, which include protostane triterpenoids and guaiane sesquiterpenoids. The traditional medical uses of A. orientale in TCM have been evaluated in modern pharmacological studies, which have shown that A. orientale and its active constituents exhibit a wide range of bioactivities, such as diuretic, anti-urolithiatic, antinephritic, anti-atherosclerotic, immunomodulatory, and hepatoprotective activities. The medicinal potential of A. orientale makes it an ideal candidate for new drug development. Further studies are still required to identify its bioactive constituents, and elucidate the structure-activity relationship and detailed mechanisms of action. Additionally, the use of the other medicinal parts of A. orientale may reduce resource waste and afford novel secondary metabolites.
