Abstract
Objective: To explore the clinical characteristics, risk factors and possible inflammatory response mechanisms in critically ill patients with influenza and invasive pulmonary aspergillosis co-infection. Methods: Sixty-four patients with severe influenza virus pneumonia were included in the RICU of the China-Japanese Friendship Hospital from November 1(st), 2017 to March 31(th), 2018. There were 33 males and 31 females, with an average age of (55±14) years. T-tests or χ(2) test were applied for comparisons between the two groups. Fifteen patients were complicated with IPA and were classified as the IPA group, while the other 49 served as the control group. The clinical characteristics, laboratory examinations, and endoscopic manifestations were compared between the two groups and the risk factors for severe influenza virus pneumonia with IPA were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. The possible mechanisms of inflammatory response were explored by comparing the differences of plasma inflammatory factors between the two groups. Results: Seven patients (7/15, 47.7%) in the IPA group died. The percentage of wheezing in the IPA group (n=13) was significantly higher than that in the control group (n=25) (P<0.05). The values of WBC [(11.0±2.7)×10(9)/L], and the levels of blood GM [(2.46±0.80) μg/L] and BALF GM [(5.30±0.98) μg/L] in the IPA group were significantly higher than those in the control group, while PCT was lower than that in the control group[(6.1±3.3)×10(9)/L, (0.33±0.07) μg/L and (0.73±0.17) μg/L, respectively] (P<0.01). Compared with the control group, the chest CT of the IPA group showed more nodules along the bronchial bundle (n=11), massive consolidation shadow (n=9), halo sign (n=3) and cavity/air crescent sign (n=5) (control group: 8, 11, 0 and 4, respectively) (P<0.05). Airway mucosal pseudomembrane formation (n=12) and airway stenosis (n=10) were significantly higher in the IPA group than in the control group (2 and 17) (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that the history of glucocorticoid use after ICU admission, normal PCT, multiple nodules, halo signs and pseudomembrane formation under endoscopy were risk factors for severe influenza virus pneumonia with IPA. The plasma pro-inflammatory factors IFN-γ [IPA group: 34.9 (20.6-64.0) μg/L] and IL-2 [16.2 (8.9-20.7) μg/L] were significantly lower than in patients without IPA [control group: 65.2 (43.8-124.5) μg/L and 20.4 (14.6-28.8) μg/L, respectively] (P<0.05); while the inflammatory inhibitors IL-4 [51.6 (32.7-69.7) μg/L) and IL-10 [15.7 (11.8-92.5) μg/L] were higher in IPA group [control group 8.9 (6.1-15.0) μg/L and 7.8 (3.6-21.8) μg/L] (P<0.05). SOFA scores showed a negative correlation with IFN-γ (r=-0.658, P=0.02) and IL-6 (r=-0.602, P=0.038), but a positive correlation with IL-10 (r=0.641, P=0.025) by Spearman correlation analysis. Conclusions: Some relatively specific clinical characteristics could be found in severe influenza pneumonia complicated with IPA. IPA should be highly suspected when a patient had a history of glucocorticoid use after ICU admission, high WBCs in the course of treatment without significant increase of PCT,multiple nodules along the airway distribution and the characteristic pseudomembrane formation under bronchoscopy. Influenza virus caused imbalance of immune responses, leading to a weakened pro-inflammatory response and a strengthened inflammatory suppression, which might be a possible mechanism for IPA development.

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the association between famine exposure in different stages of life and the risk of overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity in laterlife. A total of 12,458 participants were categorized into non-exposure and four direct exposures, including fetal, childhood, adolescence, and adult exposure. Only risk of being overweight or obesity in adolescence exposure [odds ratio ( OR), 1.45; 95% confidence interval ( CI), 1.08-1.94] was significantly higher than in non-exposure. Childhood ( OR, 1.27; 95% CI, 1.05-1.54) and adolescence ( OR, 1.53; 95% CI, 1.15-2.05) exposures had significantly an increased risk of abdominal obesity compared with non-exposure. Additionally, different famine severity exposures had different influences on the development of overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity. Famine exposure in adolescence, which was a behavior formative period, can increase the risk of overweight/obesity and abdominal obesity in adulthood, specifically in famine severely affect area.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The present study aimed to investigate the association of red meat usual intake with metabolic syndrome (MetS), and explore the contribution of red meat usual intake to serum ferritin. METHODS Based on the data from the longitudinal China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS), 2,797 healthy adults aged 18-75 years without hypertension, diabetes, and MetS were selected in 2009 as subjects and follow-up studies were carried out till 2015. We used the National Cancer Institute (NCI) method to estimate the usual intake of foods. Multivariable logistic regressions were performed to evaluate the association between red meat usual intake and the risk of MetS. Quantile regression analysis was used to study the relationship between red meat consumption and serum ferritin levels. RESULTS After adjusting for potential confounders, red meat, and fresh red meat were positively associated with the risk of MetS ( RR = 1.41, 95% CI: 1.05-1.90 and RR = 1.37, 95% CI: 1.02-1.85, respectively). These relationships showed increasing trend ( P < 0.05). The level of serum ferritin increased significantly with the number of MetS components ( P < 0.05). The quantile regression analysis showed that red meat and fresh red meat usual intake had a significant positive association with serum ferritin levels across the entire conditional serum ferritin distribution ( P < 0.05). Processed red meat did not exhibit a similar association. CONCLUSION Higher red meat usual intake was associated with an increased risk of MetS and elevated serum ferritin levels.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To explore the occurrence and the differences of clinical manifestations of organic personality disorder with varying degrees of craniocerebral trauma. METHODS According to the International Classification of Diseases-10, 396 subjects with craniocerebral trauma caused by traffic accidents were diagnosed, and the degrees of craniocerebral trauma were graded. The personality characteristics of all patients were evaluated using the simplified Neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI). RESULTS The occurrence rate of organic personality disorder was 34.6% while it was 34.9% and 49.5% in the patients with moderate and severe craniocerebral trauma, respectively, which significantly higher than that in the patients (18.7%) of mild craniocerebral trauma (P<0.05). Compared with the patients without personality disorder, the neuroticism, extraversion and agreeableness scores all showed significantly differences (P<0.05) in the patients of mild craniocerebral trauma with personality disorder; the neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness scores showed significantly differences ( P>0.05) in the patients of moderate and severe craniocerebral trauma with personality disorder. The agreeableness and conscientiousness scores in the patients of moderate and severe craniocerebral trauma with personality disorder were significantly lower than that of mild craniocerebral trauma, and the patients of severe craniocerebral trauma had a lower score in extraversion than in the patients of mild craniocerebral trauma. CONCLUSIONS The severity of craniocerebral trauma is closely related to the incidence of organic personality disorder, and it also affects the clinical features of the latter, which provides a certain significance and help for forensic psychiatric assessment.

Abstract
In insect, the cytochrome P450 plays a pivotal role in detoxification to toxic allelochemicals. Helicoverpa armigera can tolerate and survive in 2-tridecanone treatment owing to the CYP6B6 responsive expression, which is controlled by some regulatory DNA sequences and transcription regulators. Therefore, the 2-tridecanone responsive region and transcription regulators of the CYP6B6 are responsible for detoxification of cotton bollworm. In this study, we used yeast one-hybrid to screen two potential transcription regulators of the CYP6B6 from H. armigera that respond to the plant secondary toxicant 2-tridecanone, which were named Prey1 and Prey2, respectively. According to the NCBI database blast, Prey1 is the homology with FK506 binding protein (FKBP) of Manduca sexta and Bombyx mori that belongs to the FKBP-C superfamily, while Prey2 may be a homology of an unknown protein of Papilio or the fcaL24 protein homology of B. mori. The electrophoretic mobility shift assays revealed that the FKBP of prokaryotic expression could specifically bind to the active region of the CYP6B6 promoter. After the 6th instar larvae of H. armigera reared on 2-tridecanone artificial diet, we found there were similar patterns of CYP6B6 and FKBP expression of the cotton bollworm treated with 10 mg g-1 2-tridecanone for 48 h, which correlation coefficient was the highest (0.923). Thus, the FKBP is identified as a strong candidate for regulation of the CYP6B6 expression, when the cotton bollworm is treated with 2-tridecanone. This may lead us to a better understanding of transcriptional mechanism of CYP6B6 and provide very useful information for the pest control.

Different magnitude of resistance to non-depolarizing muscle relaxants in dexamethasone-treated rat diaphragm associated with altered acetylcholine receptor expression. Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of chronic dexamethasone (Dex) administration on rat diaphragm sensitivity to non-depolarizing muscle relaxants (NDMRs) and muscular nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) expression, which may help direct future administration of NDMRs. Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomized to receive a daily intraperitoneal injection of Dex (600 μg/kg body mass) or an equivalent volume of saline (N = 20 in each group) for 14 days. We evaluated isometric twitch tensions of nerve-hemidiaphragm preparations elicited by indirect supramaximal stimulation at 0.1 Hz. Real-time quantitative PCR was performed to determine the mRNA expression of two nAChR subunits (ε-subunit and γ-subunit) in the diaphragm. Dex administration markedly (P < 0.01) increased the 50% twitch depression (IC50) of the three NDMRs. The IC50 ratio, which standardized the magnitudes of the resistance, was the largest for atracurium, with the second largest for vecuronium and the smallest for rocuronium (P < 0.01). The ε- and γ-subunit mRNAs were both upregulated with an increased γ/ε ratio in rats exposed to Dex. The results indicated that chronic Dex administration induces hyposensitivity to NDMRs, the degree of which depends on the kind of neuromuscular blocker, and is associated with increased nAChR expression.

Abstract
The McGill Quality of Life Questionnaire (MQOL) is a widely used tool that has been specifically developed to measure the quality of life of patients facing a life-threatening illness. Preferably, a self-report instrument has an equal number of items worded positively and negatively. However, all the psychological scales of the MQOL are worded so that a high score is negative, whereas the existential scales are worded so that a high score is positive. The goal of this study was to investigate the influence of MQOL item formatting on patient responses. In order to do so, a modified version of the questionnaire was distributed to and completed by 205 patients in two oncology clinics. The modified version had an equal amount of items worded in a positive direction and negative direction in each of the domains. Results of this study were found to be different from those of other studies: the loading of the items was partly based on scale direction. These changes support the idea that the MQOL formatting has some impact on patient responses. However, factors were also determined by content. Given that MQOL has been widely used and the original formatting provides conceptually clearer subscales, we suggest maintaining the original format, keeping in mind the effect of formatting when interpreting scores.

Abstract
The results of a field survey and laboratory study indicated that nitrogenous landfill leachate treatment can be a significant potential source of N2O emission. Nil (raw leachate) to 58.8ngmL(-1)h(-1) (sequential batch reactor) N2O emission was detected at five treatment plants in South China. The production and emission of N2O was especially high soon after the raw leachate was aerated. The emission was positively correlated with the dissolved N2O content in leachate; detected dissolved N2O ranged from 0 to 1309ngmL(-1). All leachate treatment plants studied were effective in NH4+-N removal (>95%); however, the highest N2O emission was estimated to be 0.25g N2Ocapita(-l)year(-1), comparable with the rate of N2O emission in conventional sewage treatment process.

Abstract
Acidification of mine wastes can lead to a series of environmental problems, such as acid drainage, heavy metal mobilization, and ecosystem degradation. Prediction of acid-forming potential is one of the key steps in management of sulfide-bearing mine wastes. In this paper, the acid-forming potential of 180 mine waste samples collected from 17 mine sites in China were studied using a net acid generation (NAG) method. The samples contained different contents of total sulfur (ranging from 0.6 to 200 g kg(-1)), pyritic sulfur (ranging from 0 to 100 g kg(-1)), and acid neutralization capacity (ANC, ranging from -41 to 274 kg H2SO4 t(-1)). Samples with high acid-forming potential are generally due to their high sulfur content or low acid neutralization capacity. After the samples were oxidized by H2O2, the amounts of acid generation and the final NAG pH were measured. Results indicated that the final NAG pH gave a well-defined demarcation between acid-forming and non-acid-forming materials. Samples with final NAG pH >or= 5 could be classified as non-acid-forming materials, while those with NAG pH <or= 2.5 could be classified as moderate to strong acid-forming materials. Materials with NAG pH > 2.5, but < 5, had low risk of being acid-forming. The confirmation of cut-off NAG pH will be used as a rapid and cost-effective operational monitoring tool for the in-pit prediction of acid-forming potential of mine wastes and classification of waste types.

Abstract
The efficacy of cytokine therapy has been demonstrated in several viral diseases. Interferon-gamma is a cytokine that has potent antiviral property and immunomodulatory activity. To investigate the role of IFN-gamma in viral clearance during natural infection and to define the antiviral mechanism, DHBV-infected ducks was used as an animal model. To clone, express, and develop the method of quantifying DuIFN-gamma gene transcription and expression, DuIFN -gamma cDNA was amplified by RT-PCR from PHA stimulated duck PBMC. Recombinant plasmid expressing DuIFN-gamma was used to transfect COS-7, and the cell culture supernatant was analyzed by CPE inhibitory assay and MTT methods to determine the antiviral titer of IFN-gamma. The GST-DuIFN-gamma fusion protein was expressed in E.coli and purified using the GST sepharose 4B. Results indicated that the supernatant collected from COS-7 cells transfected with DuIFN-gamma cDNA was able to prevent duck fibroblasts from VSV induced CPE in a dose dependent manner. An anti-DuIFN-gamma antibody neutralized this antiviral activity.

Abstract
Investigated Antonovky's (1979, 1987) construct of sense of coherence (i.e., an individual's belief that the world was comprehensible, manageable, and meaningful) as the internal psychological mechanism mediating the effects of external stressors (generalized resistance deficits) and resources on psychological dysfunction (measured by depression, anxiety, and psychosocial dysfunction) in 2,234 Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Hmong, and Chinese-Vietnamese refugees. Generalized resistance and deficits significantly predicted sense of coherence as well as psychological dysfunction. The amount of variance accounted for increased significantly when the mediating effect of sense of coherence was tested using a path analysis. Sense of coherence significantly reduced the predictive power of generalized resistance and deficits in the psychological dysfunction models. Results support the hypothesized mediating role of sense of coherence. Thus, interventions aiming to enhance Southeast Asian refugees' functioning may gain in effectiveness by targeting and promoting their sense of coherence.

Abstract
The neuroretinal rim area (NRA), the cup area and the ratio of absolute fluorescein filling defect of the disc were measured in 23 cases of low tension glaucoma (LTG) and 25 cases of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) with fluorescein angiography and computerized image analysis. The results showed that the inferior and temporal quarters of NRA in eyes of LTG were significantly smaller than in eyes of POAG, while the ratio of absolute fluorescein filling defect of the disc in LTG was larger than in POAG, and the cup of LTG was larger than that of POAG, indicating that there might be different mechanisms of optic disc damages in the two types of glaucoma.

Abstract
A study of the neuroretinal rim area (NRA) and the rim disc areal ratio (R/D) in normal, suspected low tension glaucoma and low tension glaucoma eyes indicated that NRA had greater variation than did R/D in normal eyes, and NRA was positively correlated with the disc area whereas R/D was not. Meanwhile, R/D was more sensitive to glaucoma than was NRA or the cup and disc ratio, suggesting that R/D was useful in early diagnosis of glaucoma.

Abstract
The fluorescein angiography, visual field and retinal nerve fiber layer defects (RNFLD) in 23 patients (35 eyes) with low tension glaucoma (LTG) showed that there was a marked positional correspondency between the fluorescein filling defect of the optic disc and the RNFLD (91.4%) or the visual field defect (77.1%). Besides, the rate of positional correspondent between the RNFLD and visual field defect was 80.0%. The study indicated that RNFLD and visual field defect of LTG are related to ischemia of the optic disc.
