Abstract
INTRODUCTION We aimed to describe the epidemiological situation during the Omicron variant circulation in light of genomic surveillance data in Martinique, a territory with low vaccination rates. PATIENTS AND METHODS We exploited COVID-19 national databases of virological tests, for the collection of hospital data and for the sequencing data from December 13, 2021 to July 11, 2022. RESULTS Three prevailing sub-lineages of Omicron have been identified in Martinique (BA.1, BA.2, BA.5) during this period causing three distinct waves characterized by an increase in virological indicators compared to previous waves, with moderate severity in the first and last waves, caused by BA.1 and BA.5, respectively. CONCLUSION The SARS-CoV-2 outbreak is still progressing in Martinique. Genomic surveillance system in this overseas territory must be continued for rapid detection of emerging variants/sub-lineages.

Abstract
CONTEXT Tropical areas and small islands are identified as highly vulnerable to climate change, and already experiencing shifts in their temperature distribution. However, the knowledge on the health impacts of temperatures under tropical marine climate is limited. We explored the influence of temperature on mortality in four French overseas regions located in French Guiana, French West Indies, and in the Indian Ocean, between 2000 and 2015. METHOD Distributed lag non-linear generalized models linking temperature and mortality were developed in each area, and relative risks were combined through a meta-analysis. Models were used to estimate the fraction of mortality attributable to non-optimal temperatures. The role of humidity was also investigated. RESULTS An increased risk of mortality was observed when the temperature deviated from median. Results were not modified when introducing humidity. Between 2000 and 2015, 979 deaths [confidence interval (CI) 95% 531:1359] were attributable to temperatures higher than the 90th percentile of the temperature distribution, and 442 [CI 95% 178:667] to temperature lower than the 10th percentile. DISCUSSION Heat already has a large impact on mortality in the French overseas regions. Results suggest that adaptation to heat is relevant under tropical marine climate.

Abstract
Introduction Structured clinical interviews are the gold standard for assessing mental health. However limited resources may allow the use of only self-report questionnaires. In the context of emergency, such as terrorist attacks, the performance and thresholds of such tools still unclear. Objectives We investigated the performance of the Posttraumatic stress disorder CheckList Scale (PCL-S) and of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale (HADS), both compared to the MINI Interview, among civilians and first responders involved in terrorist attacks. Methods The data came from the IMPACTS survey which was conducted from 6-10 months among civilians (N=190) and first responders (N=232) after the January 2015 terrorist attacks in the Paris Region, France. Sensitivity and specificity of the PCL-S and HADS were estimated by the ROC curve, and the optimal threshold was defined using the Youden index. Results Regarding the PCL-S: for civilians and first responders respectively, the overall AUC was 0.947 and 0.899, and the optimal threshold were 38.5 and 39.5. Regarding the HADS-D: for civilians and first responders respectively, the overall AUC was 0.908 and 0.617 and the optimal thresholds were 7.5 and 1.5. For the HADS-A for civilians and first responders respectively, the overall AUC was 0.823 and 0.717, the optimal threshold were 9.5 and 6.5. Conclusions In the context of a terrorist attack, compared to the MINI, our study underlined satisfactory performance of the PCL-S and the HADS-D in screening for PTSD and depression respectively, while the screening of anxiety using the HADS-A was unsatisfactory. Disclosure No significant relationships.

Shifting From Sectoral to Integrated Surveillance by Changing Collaborative Practices: Application to West Nile Virus Surveillance in a Small Island State of the Caribbean. Front Public Health 2021; 9:649190. Abstract
After spreading in the Americas, West Nile virus was detected in Guadeloupe (French West Indies) for the first time in 2002. Ever since, several organizations have conducted research, serological surveys, and surveillance activities to detect the virus in horses, birds, mosquitoes, and humans. Organizations often carried them out independently, leading to knowledge gaps within the current virus' situation. Nearly 20 years after the first evidence of West Nile virus in the archipelago, it has not yet been isolated, its impact on human and animal populations is unknown, and its local epidemiological cycle is still poorly understood. Within the framework of a pilot project started in Guadeloupe in 2019, West Nile virus was chosen as a federative model to apply the "One Health" approach for zoonotic epidemiological surveillance and shift from a sectorial to an integrated surveillance system. Human, animal, and environmental health actors involved in both research and surveillance were considered. Semi-directed interviews and a Social Network Analysis were carried out to learn about the surveillance network structure and actors, analyze information flows, and identify communication challenges. An information system was developed to fill major gaps: users' needs and main functionalities were defined through a participatory process where actors also tested and validated the tool. Additionally, all actors shared their data, which were digitized, cataloged, and centralized, to be analyzed later. An R Shiny server was integrated into the information system, allowing an accessible and dynamic display of data showcasing all of the partners' information. Finally, a series of virtual workshops were organized among actors to discuss preliminary results and plan the next steps to improve West Nile Virus and vector-borne or emerging zoonosis surveillance. The actors are willing to build a more resilient and cooperative network in Guadeloupe with improved relevance, efficiency, and effectiveness of their work.

Abstract
Since 2018, French community pharmacists are involved in pharmaceutical care program performing medication review (MR). Near graduated pharmacy students from two faculties of pharmacy were assigned to implement and perform 3 MR in order to identify enablers and barriers of the implementation of MR by community pharmacists. Among 179 MR performed by 117 pharmacists during 5 months, they reported 3 main barriers: the time spending to initiate and perform all steps in MR (lack of time), patients recruiting, and compensation by health care system. Communications initiatives to patients and health professionals in primary care could facilitate patient MR adhesion. Simplification of administrative approach and optimization of software will be welcome and useful in order to reinforced MR implementation and leading.

Non-participation and attrition in a longitudinal study of civilians exposed to the January 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, France. BMC Med Res Methodol 2020; 20:63. Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-participation and attrition are rarely studied despite being important methodological issues when performing post-disaster studies. A longitudinal survey of civilians exposed to the January 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, France, was conducted 6 (Wave 1) and 18 months (Wave 2) after the attacks. We described non-participation in Wave 1 and determined the factors associated with attrition in Wave 2. METHODS Multivariate logistic regression models were used to compare participants in both waves with those who participated in the first wave only. Analyses were performed taking the following factors into account: socio-demographic characteristics, exposure to terror, peri-traumatic reactions, psychological support, perceived social support, impact on work, social and family life, and mental health disorders. Characteristics of new participants in Wave 2 were compared with participants in both waves using a chi-square test. RESULTS Of the 390 persons who were eligible to participate in the survey, 190 participated in Wave 1 (participation rate: 49%). The most frequently reported reason for non-participation was to avoid being reminded of the painful event (32%, n = 34/105). In Wave 2, 67 were lost to follow-up, 141 people participated, of whom 123 participated in Wave 1 (re-participation rate: 65%) and 18 were new. Attrition in Wave 2 was associated with socio-demographic characteristics (age, French origin) and location during the attacks, but not with terror exposure or mental health disorders. Compared with those who participated in both waves, new participants declared less social and psychological support since the attacks. CONCLUSIONS Attrition at 6 months was not associated with exposure to terror or mental health disorders, which indicates that any bias in future analyses on IMPACTS on mental health outcomes will be limited. Our findings suggest the importance of adapting similar surveys for people of foreign origin and of improving strategies to avoid attrition of younger people, for example by using social media, peers, and the educational environment. The present study also revealed that a high level of exposure to terror and a lack of social and psychological support after a terrorist event could impede individuals' participation in similar surveys in the short term.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Since 2013 French community pharmacist are involved in pharmaceutical care program (PCP) for patients treated with vitamin K antagonist (VKA). While PCPs are now extending to other patient populations, we aimed to evaluate pharmacists' perception after 2-years implementation and leading of PCP. METHODS A prospective investigational survey from 1st August to 31st December, 2015 from 400 community pharmacies in Champagne-Ardenne Region. Survey focuses on 3 points: first about implementation and leading of PCP; secondly about patient's population description; finally on the global perception by CP about new tasks. RESULTS Among n=47, 72% of pharmacists performed VKA PCP. Almost all received appropriate training (96%). Remuneration appears to be insufficient given the time spent for 73%. Ninety-five percent met patient's refusal mainly because of interest lacking or time lacking (54% and 22%, respectively). Pharmacists reported 3 main lacks of knowledges of patients: drugs, which increase drug-drug interaction risk (28%), VKA overdose effects (27%) and VKA-food interactions (23%). Overall view of pharmacist for PCP appears to be positive (81%) in part because of improvement of pharmacist-patient relationship perception for 66%. CONCLUSIONS Community pharmacists' perception for PCP for patients treated by VKA is broadly positive. However, organizational or economic constraints can lead to a decreasing adherence by pharmacists to PCPs. A global issue about amount of compensation and communications campaigns to patients and others health professionals will be useful in order to reinforced PCP implementation and leading taxonomy.

Abstract
Bone mimicking coatings provide a complex microenvironment in which material, through its inherent properties (such as nanostructure and composition), affects the commitment of stem cells into bone lineage and the production of bone tissue regulating factors required for bone healing and regeneration. Herein, a bioactive mineral/biopolymer composite made of calcium phosphate/chitosan and hyaluronic acid (CaP-CHI-HA) was elaborated using a versatile simultaneous spray coating of interacting species. The resulting CaP-CHI-HA coating was mainly constituted of bioactive, carbonated and crystalline hydroxyapatite with 277 ± 98 nm of roughness, 1 μm of thickness, and 2.3 ± 1 GPa of stiffness. After five days of culture, CaP-CHI-HA suggested a synergistic effect of intrinsic biophysical features and biopolymers on stem cell mechanobiology and nuclear organization, leading to the expression of an early osteoblast-like phenotype and the production of bone tissue regulating factors such as osteoprotegerin and vascular endothelial growth factor. More interestingly, amalgamation with biopolymers conferred to the mineral a bacterial antiadhesive property. These significant data shed light on the potential regenerative application of CaP-CHI-HA bioinspired coating in providing a suitable environment for stem cell bone regeneration and an ideal strategy to prevent implant-associated infections.

Abstract
In November 2014, French public health authorities renewed the recommendation to target for vaccination against invasive meningococcal disease men who have sex with men (MSM) and all individuals ≥25 years attending social venues associated with the gay community. This policy was extended beyond the Paris region as a reaction to the continuing spread of serogroup C isolates belonging to a new lineage within clonal complex cc11 since the recommendation was first issued in July 2013.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A national survey conducted in 2008-2009 by the French Institute for Public Health Surveillance for detection of lead impact in childhood identified a high blood lead level in a young boy living in the town of "Le Port", Reunion Island. Previously, cases of lead-poisoning on the island had been exceptional; only a dozen cases were reported in the 1980s in adults, related to the use of lead-containing instruments for food preparations. METHODS The family of the index case was invited to participate in screening tests and an environmental investigation was conducted using a standardized questionnaire. Screening was then broadened to the neighborhood of the index case and samples of soil outside the home and in the immediate vicinity were taken. The environmental survey was then extended with soil samples taken from the entire geographical area. Information was then provided to local inhabitants (87 families and 287 people) in order to encourage lead blood testing for all children under six years and all pregnant women living in the area. RESULTS The index case lived in the neighborhood of "The Oasis", a shantytown of Le Port. The results of soil analysis revealed heterogeneous pollution of superficial soils by lead throughout the area of the shantytown, the highest level recorded (5200mg/kg) reached more than 300 times the background level of the natural soils of the island. The screening identified 76 cases of childhood lead-poisoning (blood lead level greater or equal to 100μg/L) among 148 samples (51%). All cases of blood poisoning involved children under the age of 15 years. The median age of children with a positive test was 5.6 years; the median blood lead level was 196μg/L [102-392μg/L]. CONCLUSION The main hypothesis to explain the contamination of the soil in the area of the shantytown is the presence of waste deposits (car batteries) and diffuse activities of metal recovery. The authorities managed to remove all the families from the environmental exposure to lead by rapidly ensuring rehousing outside the contaminated area.

Abstract
Vitreoscilla filiformis (Vf), a filamentous bacteria living in fresh water is thought to contribute to the observed beneficial effects of Spa water on skin. An active fraction obtained from a Vf biomass was evaluated for its ability to modulate mRNA expression in cultured skin cells. cDNA array analysis was conducted first using a customized membrane including 1176 selected and fully identified genes involved in skin physiology and homeostasis then the newly developed full genome U133 plus 2.0 GeneChip from Affymetrix. The mitochondrial protective manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD/SOD-2) was identified as a preferentially induced mRNA target in both normal human dermal fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Induction at the transcriptional level in both cell types was confirmed using quantitative real time/polymerase chain reaction and a kinetic analysis revealed a maximal increase in mRNA expression 20 h after stimulation with Vf extract (Vfe). Using immunofluorescent (fluorescent cell sorter) analysis, an induction of MnSOD protein in both normal human dermal skin fibroblasts (x1.6; P < 0.01) and epidermal keratinocytes (x1.4; P < 0.01) was confirmed. As MnSOD is a major inducible free-radical scavenger in skin, these results suggest that the Vfe could induce skin cells to produce their own endogenous protective defences in vivo against both exogenous environmental stressors such as UV irradiation or microflora as well as to combat endogenous sources of deleterious free radicals involved in skin ageing. Finally, in order to confirm the in vivo potential of this original extract in human, we evaluated its protective activity vs. placebo on the generation of sunburn cells in epidermis under UVB stress. As expected from in vitro profiling, Vfe was indeed found to significantly inhibit the appearance of sunburn cells in UVB-exposed areas, a signature of skin alteration which has been suggested to be linked to a defect in MnSOD protective activity. Altogether, those data suggest that the combination of a suitable protective UV filter together with this bioactive Vfe might improve skin protection through complementary pathways.

Estrous cycle effects on behavior of C57BL/6J and BALB/cByJ female mice: implications for phenotyping strategies. GENES BRAIN AND BEHAVIOR 2007; 6:192-200. Abstract
Systematic behavioral phenotyping of genetically modified mice is a powerful method with which to identify the molecular factors implicated in control of animal behavior, with potential relevance for research into neuropsychiatric disorders. A number of such disorders display sex differences, yet the use of female mice in phenotyping strategies has been a rare practice because of the potential variability related to the estrous cycle. We have now investigated the behavioral effects of the estrous cycle in a battery of behavioral tests in C57BL/6J and BALB/cByJ inbred strains of mice. Whereas the performance of BALB/cByJ female mice varied significantly depending on the phase of the estrous cycle in the open field, tail flick and tail suspension tests, the behavior of C57BL/6J females, with the exception of the tail suspension performance, remained stable across all four phases of the estrous cycle in all of the tests including open field, rotarod, startle reflex and pre-pulse inhibition, tail flick and hot plate. We also found that irrespective of the estrous cycle, the behavior of C57BL/6J females was different from that of BALB/cByJ groups in all of the behavioral paradigms. Such strain differences were previously reported in male comparisons, suggesting that the same inter-group differences can be revealed by studying female or male mice. In addition, strain differences were evident even for behaviors that were susceptible to estrous cycle modulations, although their detection might necessitate the constitution of large experimental groups.

Abstract
Prepulse inhibition (PPI) is a multimodal phenomenon where the prepulse and the startling stimulus can be presented in either the same or the different sensory modalities. The aim of the present study was to characterize intramodal and cross-modal PPI in mice. We first examined the effects of varying prepulse intensity and prepulse duration on auditory and visual PPI in three inbred mouse strains C57BL/6J, 129S2 and BALB/cByJ mice. Increasing the intensity (5-15 dB above the background) and the duration (1-25 milliseconds) of the acoustic prepulse increased auditory PPI, and maximum level of inhibition was reached with each prepulse intensity at specific prepulse duration (between 5 and 15 milliseconds). Varying the intensity (30-300 lux) and the duration (1-25 milliseconds) of the light flashes had similar impact on visual PPI level (optimal durations between 1 and 10 milliseconds). There were also marked strain differences in PPI performances, with 129S2 and BALB/cByJ mice displaying the highest and the lowest scores of auditory PPI, respectively. In contrast, opposite strain ranking was obtained for visual PPI. The temporal expression of PPI was then studied in the same mouse strains using a wide range of interstimulus intervals (2-2000 milliseconds between the prepulse offset and the pulse onset). The time-course of the auditory and the visual PPI were relatively comparable (bell-shaped curve) with optimal lead-times between 10 and 100 milliseconds, but the shape of the temporal function varied between the mouse strains depending on the prepulse modality. These findings demonstrate that PPI has many physiological and genetic determinants that vary greatly across temporal and intensity domain, as well as stimulus modality.

Abstract
The anatomy of the cat brachial plexus is poorly documented despite its importance for reparative surgery. The present work aims to study the anatomy of the brachial plexus of 20 European cats and to analyze the radicular constituents of 10 of them using histological techniques. The plexus radicular constitution is very homogeneous and is mainly composed of the ventral rami (also called ventral branches) arising from C6, C7, C8 and T1 spinal nerves. The fascicular and axonal structure is more variable. C8 is the ventral ramus that contains the largest number of axons (16,673 +/- 3,307), and is composed of 6.7 +/- 3.5 fascicles. The radial nerve is the peripheral nerve that contains the largest number of axons (11,245 +/- 2,217), and is composed of 7.3 +/- 3.8 fascicles. The number of nervous fibers does not differ proportionally to the weight of the cat, or between the right or the left side. Our data could help neurotization and entubulation repair after brachial plexus injury.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Data from a cross-sectional survey of the Swiss general population were used in an explorative attempt to apply the transtheoretical model of behavioural change to perceived stress. METHODS The sample comprised 575 respondents who reported having experienced stressful situations in the previous month. Other variables assessed included gender, age, education, reported symptoms, and three constructs representing stages and processes of change as well as self-efficacy. RESULTS Findings indicated that (1) about one third of respondents appeared to cope successfully with the stressful situations they experienced, one third intended to do so, while one quarter appeared to have no intention of managing their stress more effectively. (2) There was no difference in stage of change distribution by gender or age, while those with higher education were more frequently represented in the latter stages than those with lower education. (3) Those in the maintenance stage reported significantly less symptoms than others. CONCLUSIONS We conclude that the assessment of readiness to change could be of valuable support in designing stage-specific interventions in the area of stress management.

[An integrated concept for contraception counseling and HIV prevention for young women: the Project Nécessaire]. DAS GESUNDHEITSWESEN 2000; 62:161-5. Abstract
PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the innovative project "Nécessaire" on sexual and reproductive health promotion. "Nécessaire" was developed for young women and carried out in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. The concept consisted of giving theoretical information in a brochure suitable for young women in its design combined with several items (such as condom, chewing gum, sticker) in a spongebag. METHOD Young women (n = 183) as well as professionals (n = 154) were asked to give their opinion on the "Necessaire" by filling in a semi-structured questionnaire. In addition, the product ordering was monitored over 7 months, in order to examine the use of the product by various institutions. RESULTS On the whole, the young women praised the product. They especially liked the brochure, which was made up like a diary written by a young woman called Rosa. According to their answers the combination of information and useful items stimulated the reflection on topics like sexuality, love, and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Critical voices pointed out the need for interventions aimed at young men, in order to make them more aware of their responsibility in contraception, HIV prevention and partnerships. The professionals generally would like to continue using the product in their work with young women. Many of them asked for more accompanying material with practical ideas for using the product. A similar product for young men and foreign youngsters was often asked for. The monitoring of the product ordering showed that schools and institutions such as youth centres evinced the greatest interest in the product. This contrasted with the results of a feasibility study conducted in advance. Although medical and advice centres indicated a need for a product to support professionals counselling young women, these institutions ordered relatively few kits. CONCLUSION Generally speaking the "Nécessaire" was well received by young women as well as by professionals. It not only informs on sexual health but also promotes preventive behaviour in daily life. The product was not used as an aid for counselling young women as much as was intended. It is suggested to promote the Nécessaire's use by taking specific measures like developing written material with practical ideas for professionals. In the case of developing a similar product for young men and migrants, their specific backgrounds and cultures should be taken into account and the material adapted accordingly.

[Efficacy and limits of rescue high-frequency oscillatory ventilation in the treatment of hyaline membrane disease in preterm newborns]. Arch Pediatr 1999; 6:1155-62. Abstract
UNLABELLED Conflicting reports of high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) use as an alternative to conventional mechanical ventilation have been published. This retrospective study has evaluated the efficacy and safety of rescue HFOV in preterm infants with severe hyaline membrane disease (HMD) after the failure of conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV). POPULATION AND METHODS All newborns hospitalized in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) from 10.1.1993 to 15.4.1995 with CMV failure, defined as the need for more than 55% FiO2 without any improvement for at least six hours, have been retrospectively studied. The infants were shared according to the absence (Gr I) or the presence (Gr II) of persistent pulmonary hypertension of neonate (PPHN) in addition to HMD before HFOV. RESULTS Gestational age (GA) was 29.2 +/- 3.7 weeks (mean +/- SD) in Gr I and 30.3 +/- 2.8 in Gr II. Birth weight was 1379 +/- 750 g and 1471 +/- 612 g, respectively. As soon as three hours after the onset of HFOV in both groups, a dramatic improvement was observed with a FiO2 drop from 82 +/- 20% to 64.8 +/- 25.5% (P < 0.01). Among the infants, 62% survived without any major disability and 28% died (46% in Gr II vs 12% in Gr I, P < 0.01). A trend towards a worsening of pre-existing brain lesions has been noticed. An increased risk of mortality was observed when a secondary worsening in O2 requirements occurred 24 hours after the onset of HFOV, despite an initial significant improvement. SGA was also associated with a poor prognosis (46% of the deaths vs 29% for AGA infants, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION HFOV has been successfully used in premature infants with severe respiratory disease and failure of CMV. Criteria of poor prognosis were PPHN and SGA, or a secondary worsening in oxygen requirements after initial improvement. A trend towards aggravation of pre-existing brain lesions has been noticed after HFOV. This aggravation is more frequent when PPHN is associated with HMD. This observation suggests caution for HFOV use when these conditions are present in premature infants.

Knowledge, attitudes, and practices on hypertension in a country in epidemiological transition. Hypertension 1998; 31:1136-45. Abstract
Assessment of knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) is a crucial element of hypertension control, but little information is available from developing countries where hypertension has lately been recognized as a major health problem. Therefore, we examined KAP on hypertension in a random sample of 1067 adults aged 25 to 64 years from the Seychelles Islands (Indian Ocean). KAP were assessed from an administered structured questionnaire. The age-standardized prevalence of hypertension (screening blood pressure [BP] > or = 160/95 mm Hg or taking antihypertensive medication) was 36% in men and 25% in women aged 25 to 64 years. Among hypertensive persons, 50% were aware of the condition, 34% were treated, and 10% had controlled BP (ie, BP <160/95 mm Hg). Most persons, whether nonhypertensive, unaware hypertensive, or aware hypertensive, had good basic knowledge related to hypertension determinants and consequences, possibly an effect of a nationwide cardiovascular disease prevention program over the last years. However, favorable outcome expectation, positive attitudes, and appropriate practices for hypertension and relevant healthy lifestyles were found in smaller proportions of participants, with little difference between aware hypertensives, unaware hypertensives, and nonhypertensives. Furthermore, hypertensive persons with other concurrent cardiovascular risk factors affecting the overall heart risk knew well the detrimental effects of these other factors but reported making little actual change to control them (particularly regarding overweight and sedentary habits). These data point to the need to maximize the efficiency of hypertension prevention and control programs so that delay in achieving effective hypertension control is minimized in countries experiencing recent emergence of hypertension as a major public health problem.
