[Comparison of the microbiota diversity between autogenous and anautogenous Culex pipiens pallens]. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the microbiota composition and diversity between autogenous and anautogenous Culex pipiens pallens, so as to provide insights into unraveling the pathogenesis of autogeny in Cx. pipiens pallens. METHODS Autogenous and anautogenous adult Cx. pipiens pallens samples were collected at 25 ℃, and the hypervariable regions of the microbial 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene was sequenced on the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 sequencing platform. The microbiota abundance and diversity were evaluated using the alpha diversity index, and the difference in the microbiota structure was examined using the beta diversity index. The microbiota with significant differences in the abundance between autogenous and anautogenous adult Cx. pipiens pallens samples was identified using the linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe). RESULTS The microbiota in autogenous and anautogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples belonged to 18 phyla, 28 classes, 70 orders, 113 families, and 170 genera, and the dominant phyla included Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and so on. At the genus level, Wolbachia was a common dominant genus, and the relative abundance was (77.6 ± 11.3)% in autogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples and (47.5 ± 8.5)% in anautogenous mosquito samples, while Faecalibaculum (0.4% ± 0.1%), Dubosiella (0.5% ± 0.0%) and Massilia (0.5% ± 0.1%) were specific species in autogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples. Alpha diversity analysis showed that higher Chao1 index and ACE index in autogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples than in anautogenous samples (both P values > 0.05), and lower Shannon index (P > 0.05) and Simpson index (P < 0.05) in autogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples than in anautogenous samples. LEfSe analysis showed a total of 48 significantly different taxa between autogenous and anautogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples (all P values < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS There is a significant difference in the microbiota diversity between autogenous and anautogenous Cx. pipiens pallens.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this review is to systematically summarize the application of organoids in the field of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery. It aims to shed light on the current advancements and future potential of organoid technology in these areas, particularly in addressing challenges like hearing loss, cancer research, and organ regeneration. METHODS Review of current literature regrading organoids in the field of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery. RESULTS The review highlights several advancements in the field. In otology, the development of organoid replacement therapies offers new avenues for treating hearing loss. In nasal science, the creation of specific organoid models aids in studying nasopharyngeal carcinoma and respiratory viruses. In head and neck surgery, innovative approaches for squamous cell carcinoma prediction and thyroid regeneration using organoids have been developed. CONCLUSION Organoid research in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery is still at an early stage. This review underscores the potential of this technology in advancing our understanding and treatment of various conditions, predicting a transformative impact on future medical practices in these fields.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Topical intranasal medication is required following functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS). The optimal particle size of transnasal nebulization aimed at the sinonasal cavities is not conclusive. The current study aims to evaluate the effect of particle size and various surgery scope of middle turbinectomy (MT) on post-full FESS drug delivery to the sinonasal cavities. METHODS Sinonasal reconstructions were performed from post-full FESS CT scans in 6 chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) patients. Four additional models representing alternative surgery scopes of MT were established from each post-FESS reconstruction for simulation data comparison. Airflow and particle deposition of nebulized delivery were simulated via computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and validated through in vitro experiments. The optimal particle sizes reaching a deposition of at least 75% of the maximum in the targeted regions were identified. RESULTS The drug deposition rate onto the targeted regions increased following MT, with the greatest deposition following posterior MT (P-MT). Droplets in the range of 18-26 μm reached a deposition of larger than 75% of the maximum onto the targeted regions. Drug delivery rate in the sinonasal cavities varied significantly among individuals and across different types of MT with varying surgical scopes. CONCLUSIONS This study is the first to investigate the effect of various surgery scope on drug delivery by transnasal nebulization to the sinonasal cavities. The findings strongly affirm the vast potential of transnasal nebulization as an effective post-FESS treatment option. Moreover, it emphasizes that the drug delivery process via atomizers to the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses is highly sensitive to the particle size.

Abstract
Objective: To explore potential predictors of refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP) in early stage. Methods: The prospective multicenter study was conducted in Zhejiang, China from May 1st, 2019 to January 31st, 2020. A total of 1 428 patients with fever >48 hours to <120 hours were studied. Their clinical data and oral pharyngeal swab samples were collected; Mycoplasma pneumoniae DNA in pharyngeal swab specimens was detected. Patients with positive Mycoplasma pneumoniae DNA results underwent a series of tests, including chest X-ray, complete blood count, C-reactive protein, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and procalcitonin. According to the occurrence of RMPP, the patients were divided into two groups, RMPP group and general Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (GMPP) group. Measurement data between the 2 groups were compared using Mann-Whitney U test. Logistic regression analyses were used to examine the associations between clinical data and RMPP. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to analyse the power of the markers for predicting RMPP. Results: A total of 1 428 patients finished the study, with 801 boys and 627 girls, aged 4.3 (2.7, 6.3) years. Mycoplasma pneumoniae DNA was positive in 534 cases (37.4%), of whom 446 cases (83.5%) were diagnosed with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia, including 251 boys and 195 girls, aged 5.2 (3.3, 6.9) years. Macrolides-resistant variation was positive in 410 cases (91.9%). Fifty-five cases were with RMPP, 391 cases with GMPP. The peak body temperature before the first visit and LDH levels in RMPP patients were higher than that in GMPP patients (39.6 (39.1, 40.0) vs. 39.2 (38.9, 39.7) ℃, 333 (279, 392) vs. 311 (259, 359) U/L, both P<0.05). Logistic regression showed the prediction probability π=exp (-29.7+0.667×Peak body temperature (℃)+0.004×LDH (U/L))/(1+exp (-29.7+0.667×Peak body temperature (℃)+0.004 × LDH (U/L))), the cut-off value to predict RMPP was 0.12, with a consensus of probability forecast of 0.89, sensitivity of 0.89, and specificity of 0.67; and the area under ROC curve was 0.682 (95%CI 0.593-0.771, P<0.01). Conclusion: In MPP patients with fever over 48 to <120 hours, a prediction probability π of RMPP can be calculated based on the peak body temperature and LDH level before the first visit, which can facilitate early identification of RMPP.

Abstract
Single-cell sequencing (SCS) is a technology that separates thousands of cells from the organism and accurately analyzes the genetic material expressed in each cell using high-throughput sequencing technology. Unlike the traditional bulk sequencing approach, which can only provide the average value of a cell population and cannot obtain specific single-cell data, single-cell sequencing can identify the gene sequence and expression changes of a single cell, and reflects the differences between genetic material and protein between cells, and ultimately the role played by the tumor microenvironment. single-cell sequencing can further explore the pathogenesis of head and neck malignancies from the single-cell biological level and provides a theoretical basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of head and neck malignancies. This article will systematically introduce the latest progress and application of single-cell sequencing in malignant head and neck tumors.

[Clinical analysis of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for seven cases of acute myeloid leukemia with BCR::ABL1 fusion]. Abstract
Objective: To explore the efficacy of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients with BCR::ABL1 fusion. Methods: The clinical data of seven AML patients with BCR::ABL1 fusion from November 2012 to January 2022 were retrospectively analyzed, and their survival status was followed up. Results: The median age of patients at the time of diagnosis was 35 years. Four cases (57.1%) were diagnosed with high leukocyte counts. All cases were assayed as BCR::ABL1 positive and accompanied by four types of gene mutations (NPM1, RUNX1, ASXL1, PHF6) . Seven patients received tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) combined with induction chemotherapy and bridged to allo-HSCT, and six patients received maintenance therapy with TKI. Before allo-HSCT, six patients achieved complete remission, and four patients achieved complete molecular remission (CMR) . After allo-HSCT, the three remaining cases also achieved CMR. All patients were in remission post-allo-HSCT. One case died of infection, and the remaining cases survived without relapse. The 3-year cumulative overall survival rate was (80.0±17.9) %. Conclusions: TKI combined with traditional chemotherapy could achieve a high response rate in AML patients with BCR::ABL1 fusion. In addition, allo-HSCT could enhance the molecular response rate. Maintenance therapy post-HSCT with TKI could improve prognosis.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Since the start of the pandemic, olfactory dysfunction (OD) has been reported as a common symptom of COVID-19. In some asymptomatic carriers, OD is often the first and even the only symptom. At the same time, persistent OD is also a long-term sequela seen after COVID-19 that can have a serious impact on the quality of life of patients. However, the pathogenesis of post-COVID-19 OD is still unclear, and there is no specific treatment for its patients. The aim of this paper was to review the research on OD caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection and to summarize the mechanism of action, the pathogenesis, and current treatments.

Abstract
PURPOSE By recruiting reference population, we aimed to (1): estimate the 25(OH)D threshold that maximally inhibits the PTH, which can be defined as the cutoff value for vitamin D sufficiency; (2) establish the PTH reference interval (RI) in population with sufficient vitamin D. METHODS Study data were retrieved from LIS (Laboratory Information Management System) under literature suggested criteria, and outliers were excluded using Tukey fence method. Locally weighted regression (LOESS) and segmented regression (SR) were conducted to estimate the threshold of 25(OH)D. Multivariate linear regression was performed to evaluate the associations between PTH concentration and variables including 25(OH)D, gender, age, estimated glomerular filtration rate (EGFR), body mass index (BMI), albumin-adjusted serum calcium (aCa), serum phosphate(P), serum magnesium(Mg), and blood collection season. Z test was adopted to evaluate whether the reference interval should be stratified by determinants such as age and gender. RESULTS A total of 64,979 apparently healthy subjects were recruited in this study, with median (Q1, Q3) 25(OH)D of 45.33 (36.15, 57.50) nmol/L and median (Q1, Q3) PTH of 42.19 (34.24, 52.20) ng/L. The segmented regression determined the 25(OH)D threshold of 55 nmol/L above which PTH would somewhat plateau and of 22 nmol/L below which PTH would rise steeply. Multivariate linear regression suggested that gender, EGFR, and BMI were independently associated with PTH concentrations. The PTH RI was calculated as 22.17-72.72 ng/L for subjects with 25(OH)D ≥ 55 nmol/L with no necessity of stratification according to gender, age, menopausal status nor season. CONCLUSION This study reported 25(OH)D thresholds of vitamin D sufficiency at 55 nmol/L and vitamin D deficiency at 22 nmol/L, and consequently established PTH RIs in subjects with sufficient vitamin D for northern China population for the first time.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the metabolic disorders in placental tissues of dexamethasone induced cleft palate mode. Methods: Twelve pregnant rabbits were randomly divided into dexamethasone group (experimental group, 8) and saline control group (4), and a certain amount of dexamethasone and saline were administered intramuscularly to the experimental and control groups respectively from embryonic days (ED) 13 to 16, and placental tissue samples were collected on day 21 of gestation. The corresponding profiles of the embryonic placental tissue samples were obtained by liquid chromatography-triple tandem quadrupole(LC-MS), and the metabolites of the embryonic placental tissues were characterized by principal component analysis among the dexamethasone-treated group with cleft palate (D-CP group), the dexamethasone-treated group without cleft palate (D-NCP group) and the control group. Results: There were significant metabolic differences among the D-CP group, D-NCP group and control group, with a total of 133 differential metabolites (VIP>1, P<0.05) involving in important metabolic pathways including vitamin B6 metabolism, lysine metabolism, arginine anabolic metabolism, and galactose metabolism. The four metabolites, vitamin B6, galactose, lysine and urea, differed among the three groups (P<0.05). There were significant differences in vitamin B6 (0.960±0.249, 0.856±0.368, 1.319±0.322), galactose (0.888±0.171, 1.033±0.182, 1.127±0.127), lysine (1.551±0.924, 1.789±1.435, 0.541±0.424) and urea (0.743±0.142, 1.137±0.301, 1.171±0.457, respectively) levels among control group, D-NCP group and D-CP group (F=5.90, P=0.008; F=5.59, P=0.009; F=4.26, P=0.025; F=5.29, P=0.012). Conclusions: The results indicated that dexamethasone induced cleft palate may be highly correlated with metabolic disorders including vitamin B6 metabolism, lysine metabolism, arginine anabolic metabolism and galactose metabolism.

Abstract
Cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and death worldwide. While various factors are established as causing malignant tumors, the mechanisms underlying cancer development remain poorly understood. Early diagnosis and the development of effective treatments for cancer are important research topics. Transfer RNA (tRNA), the most abundant class of RNA molecules in the human transcriptome, participates in both protein synthesis and cellular metabolic processes. tRNA-derived fragments (tRFs) are produced by specific cleavage of pre-tRNA and mature tRNA molecules, which are highly conserved and occur widely in various organisms. tRFs were initially thought to be random products with no physiological function, but have been redefined as novel functional small non-coding RNA molecules that help to regulate RNA stability, modulate translation, and influence target gene expression, as well as other biological processes. There is increasing evidence supporting roles for tRFs in tumorigenesis and cancer development, including the regulation of tumor cell proliferation, invasion, migration, and drug resistance. Understanding the regulatory mechanisms by which tRFs impact these processes has potential to inform malignant tumor diagnosis and treatment. Further, tRFs are expected to become new biological markers for early diagnosis and prognosis prediction in patients with tumors, as well as a targets for precision cancer therapies. Video abstract.

Abstract
Head and neck tumors (HNCs) are a common tumor in otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery, accounting for 5% of all malignant tumors in the body and are the sixth most common malignant tumor worldwide. In the body, immune cells can recognize, kill, and remove HNCs. T cell-mediated antitumor immune activity is the most important antitumor response in the body. T cells have different effects on tumor cells, among which cytotoxic T cells and helper T cells play a major killing and regulating role. T cells recognize tumor cells, activate themselves, differentiate into effector cells, and activate other mechanisms to induce antitumor effects. In this review, the immune effects and antitumor mechanisms mediated by T cells are systematically described from the perspective of immunology, and the application of new immunotherapy methods related to T cells are discussed, with the objective of providing a theoretical basis for exploring and forming new antitumor treatment strategies. Background
Meditation can induce changes in autonomic balance, which can benefit cardiovascular health. The present meta-analysis evaluated changes in heart rate variability (HRV) in meditators.
Methods
PubMed and Embase were searched for primary prospective studies using the search terms ‘heart rate variability’ and ‘meditation’ until January 18th, 2019. The statistical significance of the difference between subgroups is evaluated by the standardized mean difference (SMD), 95% confidence interval (CI), and P-value. I2 value was used to assess the statistical heterogeneity between the included studies.
Results
Twenty-one studies involving 538 meditators (experienced= 209, beginners= 329) and 334 controls (mean age= 40.61, 35% male) were included. Regarding time-domain indices, no statistically significant differences were observed when assessing HRV between i) meditators versus controls (SMD= -0.17; 95% CI: [-0.50, 0.17]; p= 0.30; I2= 0%), ii) pre- versus post-meditation (SMD= -0.41; 95% CI: [-1.10, 0.28]; p= 0.25; I2= 80%) or iii) at baseline versus during meditation (SMD= -0.40; 95% CI: [-0.94, 0.14]; p= 0.14; I2= 72%). Pertaining to frequency-domain indices, analysis of low frequency (LF), normalized low frequency (LFnu) and high frequency (HF) between i) meditators versus controls, ii) at baseline versus post-meditation and iii) at baseline versus during meditation yet again did not show any variations. Seven studies assessed normalized high frequency (HFnu) at baseline versus during meditation collectively demonstrated a significantly higher HFnu during meditation in beginners with notable heterogeneity (SMD= 1.29; 95% CI: [0.09, 2.49]; p= 0.04; I2= 95). Moreover, LF/HF was evaluated by seven studies at baseline versus during meditation. Both meta-analysis (SMD= 0.76; 95% CI: [-0.17, 1.69]; p= 0.11; I2= 94%) as well as subset analysis of experienced meditators (SMD= -0.46; 95% CI: [-0.88, -0.03]; p= 0.03; I2= 0%) revealed a significantly lower LF/HF at baseline.
Conclusions
Short-term changes in HRV indices were observed during meditation, but there is limited evidence for significant long-term effects.

Abstract
Malignant tumors are a threat to human health, thus it is critical to better understand the mechanism of tumor occurrence and development and to find key therapeutic targets. Competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) is a type of RNA molecule that includes mRNA of coding-protein, pseudogenes, long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), and circular RNA (circRNA) etc. It is created through a competitive combination of common small RNA (miRNA) and has an inhibitory effect on mRNA translation. ceRNA regulate the post transcriptional expression of genes by competitively binding to common microRNAs (miRNAs).Studies have shown that cernas are involved in tumor cell proliferation, invasion and migration, drug resistance, angiogenesis, as well as tumor immunity, and so on, affecting the progression of tumor development. This article reviews the reported roles of exosomal ceRNA in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors and the mechanisms underlying these.

Abstract
Exosomes are microvesicles secreted by cells. They contain a variety of bioactive substances with important roles in intercellular communication. Circular RNA (circRNA), a type of nucleic acid molecule found in exosomes, forms a covalently bonded closed loop without 5′ caps or 3′ poly(A) tails. It is structurally stable, widely distributed, and tissue specific. CircRNAs mainly act as microRNA sponges and have important regulatory roles in gene expression; they are superior to other non-coding RNAs as molecular diagnostic markers and drug treatment targets. Exosomal-derived circRNAs in the body fluids of tumor patients can modulate tumor proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and drug resistance. They can be used as effective biomarkers for early non-invasive diagnosis and prognostic evaluation of tumors, and also represent ideal targets for early precision therapeutic intervention. This review provides a theoretical basis for exploring the applications of exosomal circRNAs in malignant tumor diagnosis and treatment. We describe the biological functions of exosomal circRNAs in the occurrence and development of malignant tumors, their potential utility in diagnosis and treatment, and possible mechanisms.

Abstract
The olfactory nerve (ON) is the only cranial nerve exposed to the external environment. Hence, it is susceptible to damage from head trauma, viral infection, inflammatory stimulation, and chemical toxins, which can lead to olfactory dysfunction. However, compared with all other cranial nerves, the ON is unique due to its inherent ability to regenerate. This characteristic provides a theoretical basis for treatment of olfactory dysfunction. Olfactory training (OT) is one of the main treatments for olfactory dysfunction. It is easy to apply and has few side-effects, and has been shown to be efficacious for patients with olfactory dysfunction of various causes. To further understand the application value of ON regeneration and OT on olfactory dysfunction, we review the research progress on the mechanism of ON regeneration and OT.

Abstract
ABSTRACT. In this paper, MoO3 microrods were prepared using corn straw as biological template via roasting process The components and crystal characterization of the material were investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD),scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the electrochemistry property and mechanism were studied. The results showed that the MoO3 material synthesized by template method is orthorhombic structures. The MoO3 particles were submicron and micron rods with uniform distribution and a smooth surface. MoO3 microrods had an average diameter that ranged from 1 to 2 μm. The result indicated that the MoO3 as the new negative of aluminum battery delivers a higher discharge capacity of 190 mA·h·g-1 at a scanning rate of 1 mV·s-1, which showing good capacity and cycling performance.

Abstract
Standard quantum theory was formulated with complex-valued Schrödinger equations, wave functions, operators, and Hilbert spaces. Previous work attempted to simulate quantum systems using only real numbers by exploiting an enlarged Hilbert space. A fundamental question arises: are the complex numbers really necessary in the standard formalism of quantum theory? To answer this question, a quantum game has been developed to distinguish standard quantum theory from its real-number analog, by revealing a contradiction between a high-fidelity multiqubit quantum experiment and players using only real-number quantum theory. Here, using superconducting qubits, we faithfully realize the quantum game based on deterministic entanglement swapping with a state-of-the-art fidelity of 0.952. Our experimental results violate the real-number bound of 7.66 by 43 standard deviations. Our results disprove the real-number formulation and establish the indispensable role of complex numbers in the standard quantum theory.

Abstract
Cobalt (Co) cycling is often dominated by its role as a micronutrient in marine, while little is known on its cycling in a shallow eutrophic lake. Monthly sampling was performed in eutrophic Meiliang Bay of Lake Taihu, combining two laboratory control experiments and in situ Co limitation bioassay experiments. The high-resolution dialysis and the diffusive gradients in thin films technique were used to detect dissolved and labile Co, respectively. The positive correlations between dissolved/labile Co and Mn in the sediments for 6 or 7 months demonstrated that the mobility of Co in the sediments was primarily controlled by Mn redox cycling in the field. However, it is unexpected that the dissolved and labile Co only showed a small change over one year irrespective of the significant fluctuation in dissolved/labile Mn, with the concentrations being as low as 1.08 ± 0.22 μg/L and 0.246 ± 0.091 μg/L for dissolved and labile Co in the surface 20 mm sediment, respectively. Cyanobacterial bloom simulation and aerobic-anaerobic-cyanobacterial addition experiments indicated that the level of Co in the sediment-overlying water system was strongly regulated by cyanobacterial uptake, followed by the degradation of Co-enriched cyanobacterial biomass, which offset the influence of Mn redox cycling on Co mobility in the sediment. The significant enhancement of Microcystis spp. biomass by Co addition further indicated that Co was the potential limiting nutrient for cyanobacterial blooms. This work provides new ideas for better management strategies of eutrophication in shallow lakes.

Background
Mitochondrial oxidative stress is an important mechanism of atrial remodeling and atrial fibrillation (AF) in the setting of diabetes. Currently, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is regarded as the key link from homeostasis to dysfunction, and is a central feature of metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes have not been fully elucidated.
Objective
To explore the potential role of ER stress-mitochondrial oxidative stress in atrial remodeling and AF induction in diabetes.
Methods
Mouse atrial cardiomyocytes (HL-1 cells) , type 2 diabetic rats and GRP75 conditional knockout mice were used as models systems. These findings were correlated with biomarker findings in human diabetic patients with confirmed atrial fibrillation.
Results
In the diabetic rat atria, significant ER stress was observed. Treatment with tunicamycin (TM), an ER stress agonist, mass spectrometry (MS) demonstrated many known ER stress and calmodulin proteins, including Heat shock protein family A (Hsp70) member (Hspa) 5 (GRP78) and Hspa9 (GRP75) and in situ proximity ligation assay (PLA) indicated that TM led to increased protein expression of the IP3R1 (inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors 1)/GRP75 (glucose-regulated protein 75)/VDAC1 (voltage-dependent anion channel 1) complex in HL-1 cells. Silencing of GRP75 using siRNA in HL-1 cells and GRP75 conditional knockout in our mouse model led to impaired calcium transport from the ER to mitochondria, and alleviated mitochondrial oxidative stress and calcium overload. Moreover, GRP75 deficiency attenuates atrial remodeling and AF progression in Myh6-Cre+/Hspa9flox/flox + TM mice.
Conclusions
The IP3R1/GRP75/VDAC1 complex mediates endoplasmic reticulum stress-mitochondrial oxidative stress plays an important role in diabetic atrial remodeling. Abstract Figure

Efficacy and safety of alginate formulations in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Alginate formulations are increasingly being used for treating gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, the benefits of alginate versus control or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are somewhat unclear. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize data from recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the efficacy and safety of alginate-based formulation with PPIs or control for the treatment of GERD. MATERIALS AND METHODS PubMed, Embase, Scopus, BioMed Central, CENTRAL, and Google scholar databases were searched from 1st January 2000 to 15th June 2020. Primary outcome was a reduction of symptoms while secondary outcomes were adverse events and treatment withdrawals. Ten articles with 11 RCTs were included. RESULTS Qualitative analysis of four trials indicated better outcomes with alginates vs. placebo/antacids. Our pooled analysis, however, indicated no statistically significant difference between alginates and placebo/antacids for relief of heartburn, regurgitation, or dyspepsia. Similarly, no difference was seen between a combination of alginate and PPI vs. PPI alone for reduction of heartburn, regurgitation, or dyspepsia symptoms. The risk of adverse events and treatment withdrawal did not differ between the two groups in either comparison. Descriptive analysis of studies comparing alginate vs. PPI indicated no difference between the two drugs. CONCLUSIONS Our study indicates that alginates may have greater efficacy than placebo/antacids in improving outcomes of GERD. However, current evidence on the efficacy of alginate-based formulations vs. PPI or the role of added alginates with PPI is questionable, and suggests no difference between the two drugs. The risk of adverse events with alginates is no greater than that of placebo or PPIs.

Background
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is responsible for protein synthesis and calcium storage. ER stress, reflected by protein unfolding and calcium handling abnormalities, has been studied as a pathogenetic factor in cardiovascular diseases.
Purpose
The aim of this study is to examine the effects of ER stress on mechanical and electrophysiological functions in the heart and explore the underlying molecular mechanisms.
Methods
A total of 30 rats were randomly divided into control, ER stress induction (tunicamycin) and ER stress inhibition (4-phenylbutyric acid, 4-PBA) groups.
Results
ER stress induction led to significantly systolic and diastolic dysfunction as reflected by maximal increasing/decreasing rate of left intraventricular pressure (±dp/dt), LV peak systolic pressure, LV development pressure and LV end-diastolic pressure. Epicardial electrical mapping performed in vivo revealed reduced conduction velocity, increased conduction heterogeneity and spontaneous ventricular tachycardia. Masson's trichrome staining revealed marked fibrosis in the myocardial interstitium and sub-pericardium and thickened epicardium. Western blot analysis revealed increased pro-fibrotic factor TGF-β1, decreased mitochondrial biogenesis protein PGC-1a, decreased mitochondrial fusion protein MFN2. These changes were associated with decreased mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) and connexin 43 translocation to mitochondria. These abnormalities can be partially prevented by the ER stress inhibitor 4-PBA.
Conclusions
Our study shows that ER stress induction can produce cardiac electrical and mechanism dysfunction as well as structural remodeling. Mitochondrial function alterations are contributed by CX43 transposition to mitochondria. These abnormalities can be partially prevented by the ER stress inhibitor 4-PBA.

Background
Oxidative stress contributes to adverse atrial remodeling in diabetes mellitus. This can be prevented by the PPAR-γ agonist pioglitazone through its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
Purpose
In this study, the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects were investigated.
Methods
Rabbits were randomly divided into control (C), diabetic (DM), and pioglitazone-treated DM (Pio) groups. Echocardiographic, hemodynamic, electrophysiological, intracellular Ca2+ properties were measured. Serum PPAR-γ levels, serum and tissue oxidative stress and inflammatory markers, mitochondrial morphology, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production rate, respiratory function, and mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) levels were measured. Protein expression of pro-fibrotic marker transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1), and the mitochondrial proteins (PGC-1α, fission and fusion-related proteins) were measured.
Results
Compared with controls, the DM group demonstrated larger left atrial diameter and fibrosis area associated with a higher incidence of inducible AF. Lower serum PPAR-γ level was associated with lower PGC-1α, higher NF-κB and higher TGF-β1 expression. Mn-SOD protein was not different but lower mitochondrial fission- and fusion-related proteins were detected. Mitochondrial swelling, higher mitochondrial ROS, lower respiratory control rate, lower MMP and higher intracellular Ca2+ transients were observed. In the Pio group, reversal of structural remodeling and lower inducible AF incidence were associated with higher PPAR-γ and PGC-1α. NF-κB and TGF-β1 were lower and biogenesis, fission and fusion-related protein were higher. Mitochondrial structure and function, and intracellular Ca2+ transients were improved. In HL-1 cell line, transfected with PGC-1α siRNA blunted the effect of pioglitazone on Mn-SOD protein expression and MMP collapse in H2O2-treated cells.
Conclusion
Diabetes mellitus induces adverse atrial structural and electrophysiological remodeling, abnormal Ca2+ handling and mitochondrial damage and dysfunction. Pioglitazone prevented these abnormalities through the PPAR-γ/PGC-1α pathway.

Objectives
This meta-analysis and systematic review seeks to compare both characteristic parameters and procedural outcomes of catheter ablation in patients under GA/deep sedation and mild/moderate sedation.
Background
Catheter ablation has become a widely applied intervention for treating symptomatic AF and arrhythmias that are refractory to medical therapy. It can be conducted through from mild sedation to general anesthesia.
Methods
PubMed and Embase were searched up to July 2018 for randomized controlled trials, cohort and observational studies that assessed the outcomes of catheter ablation under GA/deep sedation or mild/moderate sedation. 12 studies were included in this meta-analysis after screening with the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Heterogeneity between studies and publication bias was evaluated by I2 index and Egger's regression, respectively.
Results
Our meta-analysis found catheter AF ablation with GA/deep sedation to be associated with reduced risk of recurrence (RR: 0.79, 95% CI: 0.56 to 1.13, P=0.20) and complications (RR: 0.95, 95% CI: 0.64 to 1.42, P=0.82), though statistically insignificant. In terms of procedural parameters, there was non-significant difference between the two groups when both procedural time (SMD: −0.13, 95% CI: −0.90 to 0.63, P=0.74) and fluoroscopy time (SMD: −0.41, 95% CI: −1.40 to 0.58, P=0.41) were considered. Multivariate meta-regression demonstrated hypertension as an independent moderating factor for complication risk.

Conclusion
Apart from an increased likelihood of procedural success, ablation by GA/deep sedation was found to be non-significantly different from the mild/moderate sedation approach in both procedural parameters and outcome measures.

Abstract
To study the mechanisms of chromium (Cr) mobilization in sediments of lakes with different ecotypes, seasonal sampling was performed in the macrophyte-dominated East Taihu (MDET) and cyanobacteria-dominated Meiliang Bay (CDMB) in Lake Taihu. Concentrations of labile Cr(VI) and dissolved Cr were assessed using diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) and high-resolution dialysis passive sampling devices, respectively. Results indicated that in pore water the dissolved Cr concentrations and in sediments total Cr and Cr fractions concentrations (dissolved, exchangeable and carbonate fraction (F1), Fe-Mn oxide fraction (F2), organic/sulfide fraction (F3)) were lower in MDET than in CDMB. However, the highly toxic DGT-labile Cr(VI) concentrations were higher in MDET sediments than in CDMB sediments. In the two lake zones, the seasonal variations in concentrations of dissolved Cr and DGT-labile Cr(VI) were significant, while total Cr and Cr fractions showed negligible changes (except F1 fraction). In summer, the high mobility of dissolved Cr (MDET: 103.42±10.82μg/L; CDMB: 108.99±4.24μg/L) were mainly caused by dissolved organic matter complexing with Cr(III). In winter the high mobility of dissolved Cr (MDET: 100.27±22.04μg/L; CDMB: 102.01±8.81μg/L) and DGT-labile Cr(VI) (MDET: 28.26±3.73μg/L; CDLZ: 25.82±2.26μg/L) were primarily caused by the oxidization of Cr (III) by Mn(III/IV) oxides. This study establishes the mechanisms for seasonal variation of Cr mobilization in different lake ecological zones, highlighting the urgent need for remediation of Cr pollution, especially in macrophyte-dominated lake zones.

Abstract
Dredging is used worldwide to remove polluted sediments from water bodies. However, the dredging efficacy remains hard to identify. Here, we studied the efficacy of dredging engineering as a means to remove Cu, Cd, and Pb from polluted lake sediments, after six years of completion. Dissolved metals and DGT-labile metals were quantified in the non-dredged and post-dredged sediments by high-resolution dialysis (HR-Peeper) and diffusive gradients (DGT) in thin films techniques. April and July measurements showed that dredging was effectively remediate the polluted sediments. The dissolved Pb, Cd, and Cu contents decreased up to 30%, 44%, and 26%, and the DGT-labile contents decreased up to 51%, 27%, and 33% compared with the contents in the non-dredged zone. Dredging was thus proven efficient in decreasing the labile metal fractions, increasing the capacity of available solids to bind metals, and slowing the leaching of metals from available solids in the post-dredged sediments. In October and January, the dredging efficacy was counteracted by the decomposition of algae, which increased the dissolved and DGT-labile metal concentrations in the post-dredged zone.

Results indicated that in July 2016 and January 2017, the concentrations of soluble Cr and DGT-labile Cr(VI) in the overlying water exceeded both drinking and fishery water quality standards, resulting from the high mobility of Cr in sediments. In July (summer), the high concentration of soluble Cr (134.04 ± 7.20 μg/L) detected in the anaerobic sediments was primarily caused by the complexation of Cr(III) with dissolved organic matter (DOM). This mechanism was supported by an observed simultaneous increase of soluble Cr and DOM under simulated anaerobic conditions. In January (winter), the high concentrations of soluble Cr (97.55 ± 9.65 μg/L) and DGT-labile Cr(VI) (25.83 ± 1.25 μg/L) in aerobic sediments were primarily caused by reoxidation of Cr(III) by Mn(III/IV) oxides as evidenced by the lowest concentrations of soluble and DGT-labile Mn(II). This study sheds light on the full-year variation and mechanisms of Cr mobilization in eutrophic lake sediments and suggests the urgent need for remediation of Cr pollution especially for winter.

Abstract
This study examined lead (Pb) pollution in algae- and macrophytes-dominated sediments, using diffusive gradient in thin films (DGT) and dialysis (HR-Peeper) techniques. Lead pollution varied by season in the two different ecotype sediments. In the algae-dominated zone, the highest concentrations of DGT-labile Pb and dissolved Pb occurred in April and July, respectively. The reductive dissolution of Fe/Mn oxides was identified as an important driver for Pb releases in April and July. This was supported by the decrease of the reducible fraction of Pb in sediments during those sampling periods. Furthermore, dissolved organic matter (DOM) complexation with Pb in sediments also significantly increased the dissolved Pb concentrations in July. The Pb-DOM complexes accounted for 95% of the total chemical species of Pb in pore water, calculated by Visual MINTEQ 3.1 model. Low concentrations of labile and dissolved Pb were observed in October and January; these resulted from the formation of Pb-sulfide precipitates and adsorption by Fe/Mn oxides. It was supported by the high rate of Pb(HS)2 precipitation (saturation index > 0), at 36%, in October samples and the high reducible fraction of Pb in sediments in January samples. In the macrophytes-dominated region, there was a decrease of labile and dissolved Pb concentrations in April and July. It is likely because of the uptake of Pb by submerged macrophyte roots and the Fe/Mn plaques in the root surface. High concentrations of labile and dissolved Pb were observed in October and January, likely resulting from the DOM complexation with Pb in sediments. This was supported by the fact that the Pb-DOM complexes accounted for 90% and 87% of the total chemical species of Pb in October and January, respectively.

Abstract
Studies of dredging effectiveness, especially the ones that last for several years, are scarce. In this study, we evaluated effectiveness of dredging performed for six years on controlling cobalt (Co), zinc (Zn), and nickel (Ni) contamination of sediments. High-resolution dialysis (HR-Peeper) and diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) methods were applied to analyze the non-dredged and post-dredging sediments. The soluble and DGT-labile Co and Ni content declined by 22% and 44% (soluble) and by 16% and 26% (labile) in April, July and October in the post-dredging region. In contrast, their concentrations increased by 105% and 9% (soluble) and 322% and 27% (labile) in January. These changes in the dredging effects were caused by the corresponding changes in the reducible and residual fractions of Co and the residual fraction of Ni in sediments in the dredged site, respectively. Soluble and DGT-labile Zn decreased on average by 23% and 29% in July and October and increased on average by 151% and 52% in April and January in the post-dredging region. The different Zn mobility in the post-dredging region was controlled by the reducible fraction of Zn. The results revealed positive influence of dredging engineering in summer, autumn and/or spring and negative one in winter. Therefore, an accurate assessment of dredging effectiveness should take its seasonal variation into consideration.

Abstract
To assess zinc (Zn) pollution risk from sediments, this study investigated the monthly changes of dissolved Zn and labile Zn in sediment-overlying water profiles in a eutrophic bay (Meiliang Bay) of Lake Taihu (China) using high-resolution dialysis (HR-Peeper) and diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) at a 4 mm vertical resolution. In February and March, Mn oxides reduction caused high concentrations of DGT-labile Zn (14 ∼ 235 μg L-1), as evidenced by the significant correlation between DGT-labile Zn and DGT-labile Mn in sediments. In June and July, algal blooms reduced concentrations of dissolved Zn via algal assimilation. From August through October, concentrations of dissolved Zn in overlying water (338 ∼ 1023 μg L-1) exceeded the water quality limit for fisheries in China (100 μg L-1). This was attributed to reductive dissolution of Mn oxides in sediments caused by algal degradation followed by complexation of dissolved organic matter (DOM), which was identified in a simulated algal bloom experiment. In the winter, decreased Zn mobility was mainly attributed to adsorption by Mn oxides. It was concluded that enhanced Zn pollution risk from sediments is worthy of concern especially during algal degradation in eutrophic lakes.

Abstract
This study assessed the effectiveness of dredging in controlling arsenic (As), selenium (Se), and antimony (Sb) contamination in sediments, by examining contaminant concentrations in sediments six years after dredging was completed. High-resolution diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) and dialysis (HR-Peeper) techniques were used to monitor the concentrations of DGT-labile metalloids and soluble metalloids in sediments, respectively. Results revealed that dredging effectively remediated metalloid contamination in sediments only in April, July and/or January. Compared to non-dredged sediments, the concentrations of soluble and DGT-labile As, Se, and Sb in dredged sediments decreased on average by 42%, 52%, and 43% (soluble), and 54%, 50%, and 53% (DGT), respectively. The effectiveness of the dredging was primarily due to the transformation of metalloids from labile to inert fractions, which increased the ability of the sediments to retain the metalloids, and the slowed rate of resupplied metalloids from available solid pools. In contrast, negligible/negative effects of dredging were seen in October, and the concentrations of soluble and DGT-labile metalloids even increased in some profiles of dredged sediments. This was mainly caused by a release of the metalloids from algal degradation, which may offset the dredging effectiveness.

Abstract
Little is known about the effects of bacterial community on iron (Fe) and phosphorus (P) cycles in sediments under different primary producer habitats in different seasons. Lake Taihu has both the cyanobacteria- and macrophyte-dominated lake zones. In this work, the abundance and structure of bacterial community was investigated using qPCR and 16S rRNA gene high throughput sequencing, respectively. Compared with the sediments in the cyanobacteria-dominated lake zone, sediments in the macrophyte-dominated lake zone had higher TP, TOC and TN contents but lower DO and Eh values. Dissolved reactive P, dissolved Fe, and their molar ratios (Fe/P) were lower in the sediments of the cyanobacteria-dominated lake zone than those in the macrophyte-dominated lake zone. Consistent with this was the significantly lower abundance of total and typical Fe redox transforming bacteria in the sediment of the cyanobacteria-dominated lake zone than those in the macrophyte-dominated lake zone. Correlation analyses also revealed positive influence of abundances of total bacteria and typical Fe reducing bacteria on dissolved Fe and Fe/P ratio. The results showed that, in the cyanobacteria-dominated open water zone, Acidimicrobiaceae was capable of Fe metabolism, contributing to higher P flux in summer. In the cyanobacteria-dominated bay, Sva0081 sediment group and Desulfobulbaceae could transform sulfate to sulfide, which resulted in the reduction of Fe (III), while in the macrophyte-dominated zones, Clostridium sensu stricto 1 could couple oxidation of organic carbon with the reduction of Fe (III). The present study adds new knowledge linking the bacterial communities with the physicochemical cycles of Fe and P in sediments under different primary producer habitats.

Abstract
Diffusive gradients in thin films technique (DGT) is a dynamically passive sampling technique which has been applied increasingly to the environmental monitoring field. In the preliminary period, the DGT with zirconium hydroxide-silver iodide as the binding phase (ZrO-AgI DGT) has been developed for the determination of sulfide (S(II)). On this basis, this paper developed its determination method for inorganic arsenite (As(III)) to further realize the simultaneous and high-resolution measurements of labile inorganic As and S(II) in sediments. ZrO-AgI binding gel had a strong ability in adsorbing and fixing As(III), showing a linear increase in the initial 12.5 min. After saturation of S(II) on ZrO-AgI binding gel, the adsorption rate and adsorption capacity of As(III) reduced by 8 and 14%, respectively. A stable elution rate (89.1 ± 2.2%) was obtained by extraction of As(III) on the binding gel using a mixture solution of 1.0 M NaOH and 1.0 M H2O2 (1:1). The DGT capacity of As(III) determined by the ZrO-AgI DGT was 23.6 μg cm-2. DGT uptakes of As(III) were independent of pH (4.0-9.0) and ionic strength (0.01-100 mM), and they did not interfere with each other during the uptake process. Simultaneous measurements of labile As and S(II) in four sediment cores of Taihu Lake (China) with ZrO-AgI DGT showed that they had similarly vertical distributions in the top 16-mm layer in one core and in the whole profile up to the 35 mm depth in two cores. It likely reflected a simultaneous release of As and S(II) in sediments by synchronous reduction of As-hosted oxidized iron and sulfate, respectively. The simultaneous decreases of labile As and S(II) from their co-precipitation (e.g., As2S3) were not obvious in deeper sediment layer through the measurement with ZrO-AgI DGT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Heart and lung transplantation is a high-risk procedure requiring intensive immunosuppressive therapy for preventing organ rejection. Alemtuzumab, a CD52-specific monoclonal antibody, is increasingly used for induction therapy compared with conventional agents. However, there has been no systematic review comparing its efficacy with traditional therapeutic drugs. METHODS PubMed and EMBASE were searched to October 1, 2017, for articles on alemtuzumab in cardiothoracic transplant surgery. Of the 433 studies retrieved, 8 were included in the final meta-analysis. RESULTS In lung transplantation, alemtuzumab use was associated with lower odds of acute cellular rejection compared with antithymocyte globulin (odds ratio [OR], 0.21; 95% CI, 0.11-0.40; P < .001), lower acute rejection rates (OR, 0.12; 95% CI, 0.03-0.55; P < .01), and infection rates (OR, 0.69; 95% CI, 0.35-1.36; P = .33) when compared with basiliximab. Multivariate meta-regression analysis found that mean age, male sex, single lung transplant, double lung transplant, cytomegalovirus or Epstein-Barr virus status, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and mean ischemic time did not significantly influence acute rejection outcomes. For heart transplantation, alemtuzumab use was associated with lower acute rejection rates when compared with tacrolimus (OR, 0.44; 95% CI, 0.30-0.66; P < .001). CONCLUSIONS Alemtuzumab use was associated with lower rejection rates when compared with conventional induction therapy agents (antithymocyte globulin, basiliximab, and tacrolimus) in heart and lung transplantation. However, this was based on observational studies. Randomized controlled trials are needed to verify its clinical use.

Abstract
It is proposed that the internal loading of phosphorus (P) from sediments plays an important role in seasonal nitrogen (N) limitation for harmful algal blooms (HABs), although there is a lack of experimental evidence. In this study, an eutrophic bay from the large and shallow Lake Taihu was studied for investigating the contribution of internal P to N limitation over one-year field sampling (February 2016 to January 2017). A prebloom-bloom period was identified from February to August according to the increase in Chla concentration in the water column, during which the ratio of total N to total P (TN/TP) exponentially decreased with month from 43.4 to 7.4. High-resolution dialysis (HR-Peeper) and diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) analysis showed large variations in the vertical distribution of mobile P (SRP and DGT-labile P) in sediments, resulting in the SRP diffusion flux at the sediment-water interface ranging from -0.01 to 6.76mg/m2/d (minus sign denotes downward flux). Significant and linear correlations existed between SRP and soluble Fe(II) concentrations in pore water, reflecting that the spatial-temporal variation in mobile P was controlled by microbe-mediated Fe redox cycling. Mass estimation showed that the cumulative flux of SRP from sediments accounted for 54% of the increase in TP observed in the water column during the prebloom-bloom period. These findings are supported by the significantly negative correlation (p<0.01) observed between sediment SRP flux and water column TN/TP during the same period. Overall, these results provide solid evidence for the major role of internal P loading in causing N limitation during the prebloom-bloom period.

Abstract
The effectiveness of sediment dredging for the control of internal phosphorus (P) loading, was investigated seasonally in the eutrophic Lake Taihu. The high-resolution dialysis (HR-Peeper) and diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) techniques were used to measure the concentrations of soluble Fe(II) and soluble reactive P (SRP) as well as DGT-labile Fe/P in the non-dredging and post-dredging sediments. The P resupply kinetics from sediment solids were interpreted using DGT Induced Fluxes in Sediments (DIFS) modeling. The results showed no obvious improvement in water and sediment quality after dredging for 6years, due to their geographical proximity (a line distance of approximately 9km). However, dredging significantly decreased the concentrations of soluble Fe(II)/SRP and DGT-labile Fe/P in sediments, with effects varying at different depths below the sediment-water interface; More pronounced effects appeared in January and April. The diffusive flux of pore water SRP from sediments decreased from 0.746, 4.08 and 0.353mg/m2/d to 0.174, 1.58 and 0.048mg/m2/d in April, July and January, respectively. DIFS modeling indicated that the P retention capability of sediment solids was improved in April in post-dredging site. Positive correlations between pore water soluble Fe(II) and SRP as well as between DGT-labile Fe and P, reflect the key role of Fe redox cycling in regulating dredging effectiveness. This effect is especially important in winter and spring, while in summer and autumn, the decomposition of algae promoted the release of P from sediments and suppressed dredging effectiveness. Overall, the high-resolution HR-Peeper and DGT measurements indicated a successful control of internal P loading by dredging, and the post-dredging effectiveness was suppressed by algal bloom.

Abstract
Sediments have a heterogeneous distribution of labile redox-sensitive elements due to a drastic downward transition from oxic to anoxic condition as a result of organic matter degradation. Characterization of the heterogeneous nature of sediments is vital for understanding of small-scale biogeochemical processes. However, there are limited reports on the related specialized methodology. In this study, the monthly distributions of labile phosphorus (P), a redox-sensitive limiting nutrient, were measured in the eutrophic Lake Taihu by Zr-oxide diffusive gradients in thin films (Zr-oxide DGT) on a two-dimensional (2D) submillimeter level. Geographical information system (GIS) techniques were used to visualize the labile P distribution at such a micro-scale, showing that the DGT-labile P was low in winter and high in summer. Spatial analysis methods, including semivariogram and Moran's I, were used to quantify the spatial variation of DGT-labile P. The distribution of DGT-labile P had clear submillimeter-scale spatial patterns with significant spatial autocorrelation during the whole year and displayed seasonal changes. High values of labile P with strong spatial variation were observed in summer, while low values of labile P with relatively uniform spatial patterns were detected in winter, demonstrating the strong influences of temperature on the mobility and spatial distribution of P in sediment profiles.

Abstract
Since discovered in 1994, leptin has been thought to be a pleiotropic hormone that regulates food intake, controls energy balance in the body and influences multiple tissues in the body. Leptin plays an important mediating role in the regulation of neuroendocrine and can transmit the nutritional status signals to the reproductive-related central nervous system. Many studies have shown that leptin may play an important role in the control of reproductive function. Leptin can act on all levels of the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis and may have local effects on the function of testis and spermatogenesis. Leptin is critical for puberty initiation and can also modulate testosterone synthesis by downregulating cAMP-dependent activation of steroidogenic genes expressions. Leptin is found to be higher in infertile men than in normal subjects. Yet, the exact role of leptin in the regulation of male reproductive function remains incomplete. The purpose of this review was to summarise the recent research about the biological effects of leptin on male reproductive system. In-depth study of leptin in reproductive system will help to reveal the pathogenesis of infertility and provide new treatment ideas for human assisted reproductive technology.

Abstract
This study investigated the effects of tubificid worm bioturbation on the lability of phosphorus (P) in microcosm sediments. High-resolution dialysis (HR-Peeper) and two types of diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) (Zr-oxide DGT and ZrO-Chelex DGT) were used to measure soluble P and Fe, and labile P and Fe at a millimeter spatial scale. The worm bioturbation promoted P release (up to 511% of the control) to the overlying water on the 6th day, but it was reduced compared to the control (up to 171% of the control) from the 22nd day to the 102nd day because of the adsorption by Fe(III) oxyhydroxides. The worm bioturbation reduced the pore water soluble P concentration up to 48% and the DGT-labile P concentration up to 29% of the control from a sediment depth of -10 mm to approximately -130 mm before the 22nd day of incubation due to worm ingestion of sediment particles. Two-dimensional measurements of DGT-labile P also showed a much lower concentration of labile P around the worm burrow. This effect disappeared on the 53rd and 102nd day. However, the soluble P and DGT-labile P decreased again up to 41% and 38%, compared to the control from the sediment depth of -20 mm and -10 mm to approximately -130 mm, respectively, on the 152nd day of incubation due to the adsorption by Fe(III) oxyhydroxides. Soluble Fe(II) and DGT-labile Fe did not show significant changes from the worm bioturbation on the 6th day, but decreased up to 31% and 47% of the control after the 6th day. The results that worm ingestion of sediment particles is a significant driver of soluble and labile P reduction in the sediments before the 22nd day. After that, soluble and labile P reduction was attributed to P adsorption by Fe(III) oxyhydroxides.
