Abstract
Fish protein hydrolysates (FPH) are inherently unstable in their liquid form, necessitating either freezing or dewatering for stabilization. Gentle methods such as freeze concentration can be used to remove water, this can be achieved by freezing water in solution by decreasing the bulk temperature below freezing point and separating pure ice crystals from concentrated solution. This approach serves as an alternative to techniques like evaporation and reverse osmosis for concentrating solutions that have high water content, significant nutritional value, and thermolabile compounds. This is crucial as many bioactive compounds degrade when exposed to elevated temperatures. Another notable advantage of this technology is its potential to reduce energy consumption by up to 40% when integrated into the FPH drying process. Although this technology is currently industrialized primarily for juices, it can achieve concentrations of up to 60°Brix and manage viscosities up to 400 mPa.s. Numerous studies have been dedicated to enhancing design and processes, leading to a 35% reduction in the system's capital cost and a 20% reduction in energy consumption. Moreover, freeze concentration can synergize with other concentration techniques, creating more efficient hybrid processes. This review aims to introduce freeze concentration as a superior option for preserving fish protein hydrolysates, enhancing their stability, and maintaining their nutritional and bioactive qualities.

Abstract
Prevalence of microbial infections and new rising pathogens are signified as causative agent for variety of serious and lethal health crisis in past years. Despite medical advances, bacterial and fungal infections continue to be a rising problem in the health care system. As more bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics used in therapy, and as more invasive microbial species develop resistance to conventional antimicrobial drugs. Relevant published publications from the last two decades, up to 2024, were systematically retrieved from the MEDLINE/PubMed, SCOPUS, EMBASE, and WOS databases using keywords such as quinolones, anti-infective, antibacterial, antimicrobial resistance and patents on quinolone derivatives. With an approach of considerable interest towards novel heterocyclic derivatives as novel anti-infective agents, researchers have explored these as essential tools in vistas of drug design and development. Among heterocycles, quinolones have been regarded extremely essential for the development of novel derivatives, even able to tackle the associated resistance issues. The quinolone scaffold with its bicyclic structure and specific functional groups such as the carbonyl and acidic groups, is indeed considered a valuable functionalities for further lead generation and optimization in drug discovery. Besides, the substitution at N-1, C-3 and C-7 positions also subjected to be having a significant role in anti-infective potential. In this article, we intend to highlight recent quinolone derivatives based on the SAR approach and anti-infective potential such as antibacterial, antifungal, antimalarial, antitubercular, antitrypanosomal and antiviral activities. Moreover, some recent patents granted on quinolone-containing derivatives as anti-infective agents have also been highlighted in tabular form. Due consideration of this, future research in this scaffold is expected to be useful for aspiring scientists to get pharmacologically significant leads.

Abstract
Assessing pain in non-verbal patients is challenging, often depending on clinical judgment which can be unreliable due to fluctuations in vital signs caused by underlying medical conditions. To date, there is a notable absence of objective diagnostic tests to aid healthcare practitioners in pain assessment, especially affecting critically-ill or advanced dementia patients. Neurophysiological information, i.e., functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) or electroencephalogram (EEG), unveils the brain's active regions and patterns, revealing the neural mechanisms behind the experience and processing of pain. This study focuses on assessing pain via the analysis of fNIRS signals combined with machine learning, utilising multiple fNIRS measures including oxygenated haemoglobin (ΔHBO2) and deoxygenated haemoglobin (ΔHHB). Initially, a channel selection process filters out highly contaminated channels with high-frequency and high-amplitude artifacts from the 24-channel fNIRS data. The remaining channels are then preprocessed by applying a low-pass filter and common average referencing to remove cardio-respiratory artifacts and common gain noise, respectively. Subsequently, the preprocessed channels are averaged to create a single time series vector for both ΔHBO2 and ΔHHB measures. From each measure, ten statistical features are extracted and fusion occurs at the feature level, resulting in a fused feature vector. The most relevant features, selected using the Minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance method, are passed to a Support Vector Machines classifier. Using leave-one-subject-out cross validation, the system achieved an accuracy of 68.51%±9.02% in a multi-class task (No Pain, Low Pain, and High Pain) using a fusion of ΔHBO2 and ΔHHB. These two measures collectively demonstrated superior performance compared to when they were used independently. This study contributes to the pursuit of an objective pain assessment and proposes a potential biomarker for human pain using fNIRS.

Abstract
High concentrations of arsenic (As) in groundwater are among the long-standing environmental problems on the planet. Due to adverse impacts on the human and aquatic system, characterization and quantification of individual inorganic As species are crucial in understanding the occurrence, environmental fate, behaviour, and toxicity in natural waters. This study presents As concentration and its speciation As(III) and As(V) data, including the interrelationship with other major and trace aqueous solutes from parts of the Ghaghara basin, India. More than half (57%) of the groundwater samples exhibited elevated As concentrations (> 10 μg/L), whereas 67.4% of samples have higher As(III) values relative to As(V), signifying a potential risk of As(III) toxicity. The elevated concentration of As was associated with higher Fe, Mn, and HCO3-, especially in samples from shallow well depth. PHREEQC modeling demonstrates the presence of mineral phases such as hematite, goethite, rhodochrosite, etc. Therefore, it is inferred that the release of As from sediment particles into pore water via microbially mediated Fe/Mn oxyhydroxides, and As(V) reduction processes mainly control high As concentrations. The heavy metal pollution indices (HPI) and (HEI) values revealed heavy metal pollution in low-lying areas deposited by relatively younger sediments along the Ghaghara River. Large-scale agricultural practices, overexploitation of groundwater, and indiscriminate sewage disposal, in addition to geogenic factors, cannot be ruled out as potential contributors to As mobilization in the region. This study recommends conducting seasonal hydrogeochemical monitoring and investigating regional natural background levels of As, to precisely understand the controlling mechanistic pathways of As release.

Abstract
Objective The aim of our study was to assess the association of eating habits with the dietary patterns of people with diabetes. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted at National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology (NIDE), Dow University Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. A total 301 patients aged >18 with type 2 diabetes came to Outpatient department were recruited. Structured questionnaire was used to assess general characteristics, Anthropometric measurements, biochemical markers, and dietary intake. Results A total of 301 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were included in this study. The average age of patients was 51.6 (SD ± 11.1) years which ranged from 21 to 80 years whereas the average BMI was 27.2 kg / m2 (SD ± 5.6). Overall, 42% of patients were found to often have less than 1 serving of fruit, and 45% had less than 3 servings of vegetables daily. Of all, 77 (26%) patients often distributed carbohydrates all over the day. Results revealed that HbA1c was higher in those patients who took more than 3 roti (approximately each roti weight 60-80 g) (P-value < .001) and full plate rice approximately 300 to 355 g cooked weight in a whole day (P-value < .001) as compared to those patients whose intake of roti was 3 or less than 3 and rice was a half plate. Moreover, out of 301 patients, 102 were found physically active (52% females and 48% males), while 199 were not active. Pain in legs and lack of motivation were common barrier to physical activity. Conclusion Our study revealed that patients' fruits and vegetable intake was not optimum, diet was not balanced and the quantity of starchy carbohydrates was not controlled which may affect their HBA1C levels. Proper counseling and awareness about the importance of a balanced diet and portion control in diabetes are needed.

Abstract
Objective To explore the effectiveness of motivational interviewing, motivational enhancement therapy, and cognitive behaviour therapy for patients with substance use disorders, and to estimate the effect of such comparison in patient care setting. METHODS The systematic review was conducted from September 2021 to February 2022, and comprised search on MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Google Scholar, Science Direct, PubMed, Clinical Trials.gov and OvidSP databases for experimental studies and randomised controlled trials related to substance use disorders published in peer-reviewed English-language journals between 2001 and 2021. Quality of the studies was assessed using the Modified Cochrane Collaboration risk of the bias assessment criteria. RESULTS Of the 314 studies initially identified, 41(13%) were subjected to full-text assessment, and, of them, 16(39%) were reviewed and analysed. There were 8(50%) studies done is the United States, 4(25%) in the United Kingdom, and 1(6.25%) each in Germany, Australia, South Korea and South Africa. All the 16(100%) studies were intervention-based, with 6(37.5%) being randomised controlled trials. There were 8(50%) studies using motivational interviewing and cognitive behaviour therapy, 5(31.25%) had significant results with a combination of motivational enhancement therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy, 3(18.75%) supported motivational enhancement therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy in combination, and 2(12.5%) studies combined motivational interviewing, motivational enhancement therapy and cognitive behaviour therapy, reporting significant results while simultaneously addressing multiple patient variables. Conclusion All studies were heterogeneous. Motivational interviewing produced short-term treatment outcomes and played a supportive role in sustaining motivation. Motivational enhancement therapy was an effective therapeutic intervention that significantly addressed inadequate causes, and enhanced motivation for treatment. Cognitive behaviour therapy had a short-term impact and remained influential in the long term as well in handling cognitive and behavioural setbacks.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Individuals living with HIV/AIDs are at a high risk of many problems like depression, stigma, quality of life, decreased adherence to treatment, and lack of social support. The present study aimed to investigate the impact of brief-cognitive behavior therapy (B-CBT) on reducing depression and stigma and improving treatment adherence, quality of life, and social support among patients with HIV/AIDS attending antiretroviral therapy (ART). MATERIALS AND METHODS This randomized clinical trial was conducted at ART Clinic in the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Shahkot Nankana Sahib from July 2021 to October 2021. After baseline screening, 126 patients met the eligibility criteria and 63 were allocated to the experimental group (EXPg = 63) and 63 to waitlist-control group (WLCg = 63). Participants' age range was from 20 to 55 years. Participants who were taking ART treatment were enrolled for the CBT treatment. Before this, all the participants completed a baseline assessment to ensure a level of severity and diagnosis. A total of eight CBT based therapeutic sessions were conducted individually with EXPg. To assess the outcomes among patients receiving ART, we used Demographic form, Patient health questionnaire, HIV stigma scale, General medication adherence scale, Multidimensional scale of perceived social support, and WHOQOL BREF scale. RESULTS Findings suggest that B-CBT significantly reduced the level of depression (i.e. F (1, 78) = 101.38, p < .000, η2 = .599), and social stigma (i.e. F (1, 78) = 208.47, p < .000, η2 = .787) among patients with HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, CBT substantially improved the level of adherence to treatment (i.e. F(1,78) = 24.75, p < .000, η2 = .503), social support (i.e. F (1, 78) = 128.33, p < .000, η2 = .606), and quality of life (i.e. F (1, 78) = 373.39, p < .000, η2 = .837) among patients with HIV/AIDS. Significant mean difference M(SD) on PHQ at post-analysis in the EXPg vs. WLCg was seen 1.22(0.47) vs. 2.30(0.68) and similarly, on MPSS at a post-analysis in the EXPg vs. WLCg 2.85(0.36) vs. 1.70(0.51) which indicates sound therapeutic outcomes. CONCLUSIONS Cognitive behavioral therapy effectively decreases the level of depression and stigma and enhances the level of social support, quality of life, and adherence to treatment among HIV/AIDS patients. It is concluded that cognitive behavior therapy is an effective treatment approach for patients with HIV/AIDS. TRIAL REGISTRATION Thai clinical trial registry (i.e. TCTR = TCTR20210702002 ).

Abstract
Pain is a highly unpleasant sensory experience, for which currently no objective diagnostic test exists to measure it. Identification and localisation of pain, where the subject is unable to communicate, is a key step in enhancing therapeutic outcomes. Numerous studies have been conducted to categorise pain, but no reliable conclusion has been achieved. This is the first study that aims to show a strict relation between Electrodermal Activity (EDA) signal features and the presence of pain and to clarify the relation of classified signals to the location of the pain. For that purpose, EDA signals were recorded from 28 healthy subjects by inducing electrical pain at two anatomical locations (hand and forearm) of each subject. The EDA data were preprocessed with a Discrete Wavelet Transform to remove any irrelevant information. Chi-square feature selection was used to select features extracted from three domains: time, frequency, and cepstrum. The final feature vector was fed to a pool of classification schemes where an Artificial Neural Network classifier performed best. The proposed method, evaluated through leave-one-subject-out cross-validation, provided 90% accuracy in pain detection (no pain vs. pain), whereas the pain localisation experiment (hand pain vs. forearm pain) achieved 66.67% accuracy.Clinical relevance- This is the first study to provide an analysis of EDA signals in finding the source of the pain. This research explores the viability of using EDA for pain localisation, which may be helpful in the treatment of noncommunicable patients.

Abstract
The present study interprets the distribution and geochemical behavior of As in groundwaters of different regions along the floodplains of Ganga river (Varanasi, Ghazipur, Ballia), Ghaghara river (Lakhimpur Kheri, Gonda, Basti), and Rapti river (Balrampur, Shrawasti) in the middle Gangetic basin, India for risk assessment (non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic). The concentration of As in groundwaters of these floodplains ranged from 0.12 to 348 μg/L (mean 24 μg/L), with around ~ 37% of groundwater samples exceeding the WHO limit of 10 μg/L in drinking water. Highest As concentration (348 μg/L) was recorded in groundwater samples from Ballia (Ganga Floodplains), where 50% of the samples had As > 10 μg/L in groundwater. In the study area, a relatively higher mean concentration was recorded in deep wells (28.5 μg/L) compared to shallow wells (20 μg/L). Most of the high As-groundwaters were associated with the high Fe, bicarbonate and low nitrate and sulfate concentrations indicating the release of As via reductive dissolution of Fe oxyhydroxides. The saturation index values of the Fe minerals such as goethite, hematite, ferrihydrite, and siderite showed the oversaturation to near equilibrium in groundwater, suggesting that these mineral phases may act as source/sink of As in the aquifers of the study area. The health risk assessment results revealed that a large number of people in the study area were prone to carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risks due to daily consumption of As-polluted groundwater. The highest risks were estimated for the aquifers of Ganga floodplains, as indicated by their mean HQ (41.47) and CR (0.0142) values.

Abstract
Critically ill patients often lack cognitive or communicative functions, making it challenging to assess their pain levels using self-reporting mechanisms. There is an urgent need for an accurate system that can assess pain levels without relying on patient-reported information. Blood volume pulse (BVP) is a relatively unexplored physiological measure with the potential to assess pain levels. This study aims to develop an accurate pain intensity classification system based on BVP signals through comprehensive experimental analysis. Twenty-two healthy subjects participated in the study, in which we analyzed the classification performance of BVP signals for various pain intensities using time, frequency, and morphological features through fourteen different machine learning classifiers. Three experiments were conducted using leave-one-subject-out cross-validation to better examine the hidden signatures of BVP signals for pain level classification. The results of the experiments showed that BVP signals combined with machine learning can provide an objective and quantitative evaluation of pain levels in clinical settings. Specifically, no pain and high pain BVP signals were classified with 96.6% accuracy, 100% sensitivity, and 91.6% specificity using a combination of time, frequency, and morphological features with artificial neural networks (ANNs). The classification of no pain and low pain BVP signals yielded 83.3% accuracy using a combination of time and morphological features with the AdaBoost classifier. Finally, the multi-class experiment, which classified no pain, low pain, and high pain, achieved 69% overall accuracy using a combination of time and morphological features with ANN. In conclusion, the experimental results suggest that BVP signals combined with machine learning can offer an objective and reliable assessment of pain levels in clinical settings.

Abstract
This study explores the relationship between distress tolerance and depression with mediating role of anxiety-related symptoms and stress among dropout and non-dropout university students. This cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2019 to December 2020. Participants' age ranged between 20-40 years. Data was collected using the Distress Tolerance Scale and Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale. Descriptive, t-test, and mediation analyses were performed to calculate the results. A sample of 500 respondents was recruited. A significant difference was noted between dropout and non-dropout students on CGPA (p<0.001), depression (p<.001), anxiety (p<0.001), stress (p<0.001), tolerance (p<.001), absorption (p<0.001), appraisal (p<0.001), and distress tolerance (p<0.001). Mediation analysis reveals that stress and anxiety significantly mediates between distress tolerance and depressive symptoms (i.e., F (498) = 31.14, p<0.001; F (498) =34.14, p<0.001; F (496) = 161.21, p<0.001). It is concluded that low distress tolerance increases stress and anxiety, triggering depressive symptoms.

The shrinkage of cement-based materials is a critical dimensional property that needs proper attention as it can influence the corresponding characteristics especially when the preparation of such cement-based material is done in hot weather. Studies have shown that the casting or curing conditions influence the performance of concrete. However, there is limited understanding of the combined role of casting temperature and curing conditions, especially for concrete made with unconventional binders. In this study, five supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) were utilized as the substitute of the ordinary Portland cement (OPC) at different ratios to produce greener concrete and improve its characteristics and sustainability. The influence of four casting temperatures (i.e., 25 °C, 32 °C, 38 °C, and 45 °C) and two curing regimes (i.e., covering of samples using wet burlap and applying curing compound on the surface of samples) on the corresponding compressive strength and drying shrinkage at various ages was studied. The outcomes of this research revealed that the composition of the binders has a substantial impact on the characteristics of concrete. In addition, the casting temperature and curing regimes also have a huge role on the compressive strength of concrete produced with binary binders. For example, the compressive strength at 3 days of concrete made at 25 °C made with binary binders was reduced up to 31% compared to that made with only OPC as the binder when cured using wet burlap. Nonetheless, less than 38 ℃ was suitable to minimize the durability issues in the studied blended cement mixes.

Abstract
This study aims to analyze molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of earthworm species collected from different soil habitats of Poonch division Azad Kashmir Pakistan by using CO1 gene partial sequencing methodology. Samples gathered randomly from 18 study sites (127 localities) by digging and hand sorting methods were preserved in pure ethanol at -20°C. The modified CTAB (Cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide) method extracted high quality DNA from region of representative earthworm's caudal region. This extracted DNA was used to amplify the 700 bp partial region of the cytochrome oxidase I (COI) gene with LCO1490 and HCO2198 universal primers. All of the obtained amplified gene sequences were aligned, edited and analyzed using MEGA X software to characterize different species of earthworms. Thirty-eight (38) Barcoding sequences belonging to 11 different strains of earthworms were successfully generated. Their phylogenetic analysis revealed that 7 Barcoding sequences gave maximum similarity with the available online database, while the rest of the 4 sequences gave lower similarity than the maximum threshold level. The collected DNA barcode sequences were also clustered together by the maximum likelihood method and the resultant phylogenetic tree revealed they belong to different family lineages. Moreover the identified earthworm species have a close evolutionary link with the earthworm fauna of south and central Asia instead of Europe, which might be due to similar climate of both regions.

Since its emergence in 2019, the novel coronavirus or COVID-19 pandemic has caused severe disruptions in every field of life. The world has turned its focus toward digital technologies to fight against the socio-economic disruptions caused by the pandemic. The associated digital technology based solutions predominantly rely on the advancements in wireless and communication technologies. These wireless technologies help in fighting the global crisis in various ways, including virus-spread monitoring, maximizing healthcare outreach, mitigating the physical barriers through automated visual inspection systems and online video conferencing solutions, and enabling distance and virtual education. However, the problem further intensifies in developing and underdeveloped countries, due to the lack of facilities, increased poverty ratio, and poor socio-economic situation. This paper reports various wireless technological solutions for the COVID-19 pandemic as experienced by one such developing country, Pakistan. The paper highlights the use of wireless technologies in various fields for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, such as e-commerce, education, and the healthcare sector.

Abstract
Normal appearing brain matter (NABM) biomarkers in FLAIR MRI are related to cognition. NABM texture in FLAIR MRI is correlated to mean diffusivity (MD) in dMRI. Analysis conducted on large multicentre FLAIR MRI dataset: 1400 subjects, 87 centers. NABM biomarkers vary differently across age and MoCA categories. Biomarkers showed differences in patients with AD dementia and vascular disease.
A novel biomarker panel was proposed to quantify macro and microstructural biomarkers from the normal-appearing brain matter (NABM) in multicentre fluid-attenuation inversion recovery (FLAIR) MRI. The NABM is composed of the white and gray matter regions of the brain, with the lesions and cerebrospinal fluid removed. The primary hypothesis was that NABM biomarkers from FLAIR MRI are related to cognitive outcome as determined by MoCA score. There were three groups of features designed for this task based on 1) texture: microstructural integrity (MII), macrostructural damage (MAD), microstructural damage (MID), 2) intensity: median, skewness, kurtosis and 3) volume: NABM to ICV volume ratio. Biomarkers were extracted from over 1400 imaging volumes from more than 87 centres and unadjusted ANOVA analysis revealed significant differences in means of the MII, MAD, and NABM volume biomarkers across all cognitive groups. In an adjusted ANCOVA model, a significant relationship between MoCA categories was found that was dependent on subject age for MII, MAD, intensity, kurtosis and NABM volume biomarkers. These results demonstrate that structural brain changes in the NABM are related to cognitive outcome (with different relationships depending on the age of the subjects). Therefore these biomarkers have high potential for clinical translation. As a secondary hypothesis, we investigated whether texture features from FLAIR MRI can quantify microstructural changes related to how “structured” or “damaged” the tissue is. Based on correlation analysis with diffusion weighted MRI (dMRI), it was shown that FLAIR MRI texture biomarkers (MII and MAD) had strong correlations to mean diffusivity (MD) which is related to tissue degeneration in the GM and WM regions. As FLAIR MRI is routinely collected for clinical neurological examinations, novel biomarkers from FLAIR MRI could be used to supplement current clinical biomarkers and for monitoring disease progression. Biomarkers could also be used to stratify patients into homogeneous disease subgroups for clinical trials, or to learn more about mechanistic development of dementia disease.

Abstract
Optimism and the practice of any religion are known to reduce depression and anxiety in cancer patients. In the present study, the specific role of Muslim religiosity, optimism, depression, and death anxiety in cancer patients has been explored. The sample of this study consisted of 200 cancer patients from different hospitals of the districts Faisalabad and Lahore (Pakistan). The sample's average age was 26.6 years. Parallel mediation findings show that optimism and depression are significant mediators between Muslim religiosity and death anxiety among cancer patients. Muslim religiosity is positively associated with optimism, and it helps to decrease the level of death anxiety, while depression is negatively associated with Muslim religiosity, and high depression increases the death anxiety level of cancer patients. In conclusion, Muslim religiosity and optimism play significant roles in managing depressive symptoms and death anxiety among cancer patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer is a common worldwide illness; it evokes psychological distress at different stages, during chemotherapy patient perceives a variety of psychiatric symptoms due to various medication side-effects and psychological distress. Studies have shown a significant impact of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) in the management of psychiatric symptoms during chemotherapy. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of CBT for depression, anxiety, stress, death anxiety, satisfaction with life, and self-esteem among cancer patients during chemotherapy (CPdC). METHODS Place and duration of the study: Department of Applied Psychology, Government College University Faisalabad in collaboration with Department of Oncology, Allied Hospital Faisalabad from November 20, 2020 and July 31, 2021. A total of 90 cancer patients were enrolled. 70 out of 90 met the eligibility criteria and 60 participants fulfilled all requirements. Participants were randomly allocated to four different groups. The pre-assessment screening was started along with the first trial of chemotherapy. The CBT-based treatment plan was formulated and one session per week was given to each patient for 3 to 4 months. Participants' age range was 18-65 years (M ± SD = 47.51 ± 12.36. Demographic form, Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS), Death Anxiety Scale (DAS), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) were administered. Descriptive, t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA statistics were used to investigate the findings. RESULTS Results indicated significant mean difference on the variable of depression, anxiety and stress across four conditions (i.e. F(2, 56) = 39.55, p < .000, η2 = .679; F(2,56) = 73.32, p < .000, η2 = .797; F(2,56) = 119.77, p < .000, η2 = .865 respectively). On death anxiety significant difference across four conditions was found (F(2,56) = 22.71, p < .000, η2 = .549) with large effect size. Furthermore, findings indicated significant mean difference on the variable of satisfaction with life and self-esteem across four conditions was found (F(2,56) = 22.05, p < .000, η2 = .542; F(2,56) = 36.19, p < .000, η2 = .660) with large effect size. CONCLUSION It is concluded that CBT played a very effective role to reduce depression, anxiety, and stress-related psychiatric symptoms. CBT reduces the level of death anxiety and improving the quality of life and level of self-esteem among CPdC. Abstract
Legume/cereal intercropping has been widely studied within ecosystem function, owing to its overyield potential, predominantly by dinitrogen (N2) fixation. In our 2-year peanut/maize intercropping field experiment, land equivalent ratio (LER) showed an average yield-increase by 41.48%. Performance index of intercropped peanut (IP) functional leaves exhibited significant improvement (2.02-fold). Moreover, IP increased dry nodule weight by 58.82% as compared to mono-cropped. Also, the ratio of nodules to aboveground biomass in IP reduced by 65.8%. In pot experiment, higher urease activity was found in rhizosphere (22.73%). The abundance of Rhizobium and niƒH gene in the rhizosphere of IP were significantly enhanced by 71.91% and 208%, respectively. To analyze root exudates, we performed hydroponic coculture, the proportion of total isoflavonoids in peanut root exudates were increased distinctly by 22.4%. Our findings certainly helped in filling one the information gaps, that how intercropping increases nitrogen fixation in rhizosphere. Lastly, it can further facilitate to understand functional significance of intercropping system for agricultural ecological sustainability and efficient resource utilization.

Abstract
This work presents a new technique for enhancing the performance of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna by improving its correlation coefficient ρ. A broadband dielectric structure is designed using the transformation electromagnetics (TE) concept to decorrelate the fields of closely placed radiating elements of an MIMO antenna, thereby decreasing ρ and mutual coupling. The desired properties of the broadband dielectric wave tilting structure (DWTS) are determined by using quasi-conformal transformation electromagnetics (QCTE). Next, the permittivity profile of the DWTS is realized by employing air-hole technology, which is based on the effective medium theory, and the DWTS is fabricated using the additive manufacturing (3D printing) technique. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is verified by designing two-element patch-based MIMO antenna prototypes operating at 3 GHz, 5 GHz, and 7 GHz, respectively. The proposed technique helped to reduce the correlation coefficient ρ in the range of 37% to 99% in the respective operating bandwidth of each MIMO antenna, thereby, in each case, improving the isolation between antenna elements by better than 3 dB, which is an excellent performance.

Abstract
Coronary Artery Diseases (CADs) are a dominant cause of worldwide fatalities. The development of accurate and timely diagnosis routines is imperative to reduce these risks and mortalities. Coronary angiography, an invasive and expensive technique, is currently used as a diagnostic tool for the detection of CAD but it has some procedural hazards, i.e., it requires arterial puncture, and the subject gets exposed to iodinated radiation. Phonocardiography (PCG), a non-invasive and inexpensive technique, is a modality employing heart sounds to diagnose heart diseases but it requires only trained medical personnel to apprehend cardiac murmurs in clinical environments. Furthermore, there is a strong compulsion to characterize CAD into its types, such as Single vessel coronary artery disease (SVCAD), Double vessel coronary artery disease (DVCAD), and Triple vessel coronary artery disease (TVCAD) to assist the cardiologist in decision making about the treatment procedure followed. This paper presents a computer-aided diagnosis system for the categorization of CAD and its types based on Phonocardiogram (PCG) signal analysis. The raw PCG signals were denoised via empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to remove redundant information and noise. Next, we extract MFCC and proposed 1D-Adaptive Local Ternary Patterns (1D-ALTP) and fused them serially to get a strong feature representation of multiple PCG signal classes. Features were further reduced through Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) and subjected to several classification methods such as support vector machines (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), and K-nearest neighbors (KNN) in a comparative fashion. The best classification performances of 98.3% and 97.2% mean accuracies were obtained through SVM with the cubic kernel for binary and multiclass experiments, respectively. The performance of the proposed system is comprehensively tested through 10-fold cross-validation and hold-out train-test techniques to avoid model overfitting. Comparative analysis with existing approaches advocates the superiority of the proposed approach.

Abstract
There is a growing interest in studying the determinants of climate change concern, but there are few studies conducted on developing countries like Pakistan. This study has three objectives. Firstly, to find whether there are differences in climate change concern levels between Pakistani citizens residing in rural and urban areas. Secondly, whether climate change concern is influenced by the same or different factors in rural and urban areas. Finally, whether the religious denomination one adheres to plays a role. The 2015 database provided by Pew Research Center, a representative sample of the Pakistani population, is used, and ordered logit models are run by including the independent variables in steps. The main finding is that the place of residency matters: rural residents show higher levels of concern than their urban counterparts. Climate change concern is influenced in both areas of residence by the gender of the respondent: females are more concerned than males. Nonetheless, there are differences in other determinants of climate change concern in rural and urban areas, for example, the education level, which affects mainly rural citizens. The religious denomination affects the concern of rural residents: Sunni Muslims show higher levels of climate change concern than Shi'a Muslims. Recommendations include the implementation of policies aiming to increase the education level in rural areas and the incorporation of courses and curricular or extra-curricular activities that would promote more concern among high school students.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the role of religiosity, optimism, depression, death anxiety and differences in demographic characteristics among cancer patients. METHODS The cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2018 to July 2019 in three different hospitals of Lahore and Faisalabad, Pakistan, and comprised patients with diagnosed stage 1 and 2 cancer. Non-cancer subjects were enrolled as the control group. Data was collected using the Short Muslim Practice and Brief Scale, the Siddiqui-Shah Depression Scale, Death Anxiety Scale and the revised version of Life Orientation Test. One-way analysis of variance and other tests were used for data analyses. RESULTS Of the 400 subjects, 200(50%) each were cases and controls. Among the cases, 100(50%) each were males and females. There was a significant difference between cancer and non-cancer subjects on the variables of religiosity, optimism, depression and death anxiety (p<0.05). Significant gender differences were found on the variables of religiosity, depression and death anxiety (p<0.05), while the difference on the construct of optimism was non-significant among cancer patients (p>0.05). Cancer patients of rural and urban areas were significantly different on the variables of religiosity, depression and death anxiety (p<0.05), but the difference was non-significant on the optimism scale (p>0.05). Also, the differences on death anxiety scale were significantly related to the type of cancer (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS There was a greater role of religiosity and optimism in controlling the level of depression and fear of death among cancer patients. Also, the role of gender, residential area and type of cancer was significant.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the association of vitamin D deficiency with hepatitis B and C virus Infection.
Study Design: This is a prospective study.
Setting: Study carried out at Medicine department Civil Hospital Karachi, from March, 2018 to December, 2019.
Materials and Methods: 266 Participants of the study included patients with active hepatitis B or hepatitis C infection visiting OPD of the hospital. Vitamin D levels of 14-30 ng/ml have been described as insufficient and levels <14 ng/ml are labelled as deficient. Vitamin D level of >30 nm/ml have been defined as sufficient according to our study. Diagnosis of Hepatitis B is confirmed by HBV DNA and HBsAg serum levels and of Hepatitis C by HCV RNA levels.
Results: We received 70.6% (n=266) males and 29.3% females. After serological tests 34.9% (n=93) patients were positive for HBV DNA whereas 47.7% (n=127) patients were positive for HCV DNA. Coinfection with hepatitis B and C was present in 17.2% (n=46) of patients. Amongst total 266 participants 54.31% patients have been vitamin D deficient and 32.7% have insufficient vitamin D levels.
Conclusion: Genetic and metabolic factors linked to hepatitis B and C with vitamin D deficiency should be studied on large scale. In our study patients infected with HBV and HCV have been vitamin D deficient, supplementation needs to be added to the treatment regimen.

Abstract
The poor grain filling of inferior spikelets (IS) situated on the lower secondary rachis branch leads to a remarkable decrease in rice yield and quality. The AGPase small subunit 2 (AGPS2) encodes a small subunit of adenosine diphosphate-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPase) enzyme, which plays an important role in sucrose-starch conversion and starch biosynthesis in the grain filling of rice. In the present study, qPCR analysis showed low expression abundance of AGPS2 in IS, compared to the superior spikelets (SS), which was consistent with the lower grain weight of IS. To evaluate the molecular mechanism of AGPS2, we first identified the AGPS2 interaction network through Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP). In total, 29 proteins of AGPS2 interaction network were characterized by LC-MS/MS. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that, the characterized proteins in the interaction network are likely to be related to starch synthesis, sugar conversion, energy pathway, and folding/modification, and most of them were involved in the grain filling of rice. The sequent Co-IP analysis showed that AGPS2 can bind to starch branching enzyme (SBE), pullulanase (PUL) and starch debranching enzyme (DBE) and assemble into starch synthesizing protein complex (SSPC). In addition, the 14-3-3 protein GF14e was also found to interact with AGPS2. Further analysis by qPCR showed that the expression of GF14e was much higher on IS than on SS. The qPCR results also showed that the expression of GF14e was relatively stable in SS, but changed significantly in IS under alternate wetting and moderate soil drying (WMD), which is consistent with the AGPS2 expression pattern. Our present work provides direct molecular evidence for the different expression patterns of AGPS2 in SS and IS, which could be greatly helpful for the molecular amelioration of the poor grain filling of IS in rice.

Abstract
Hypertension is an antecedent to cardiac disorders. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of people affected with hypertension will reach around 1.56 billion by 2025. Early detection of hypertension is imperative to prevent the complications caused by cardiac abnormalities. Hypertension usually possesses no apparent detectable symptoms; hence, the control rate is significantly low. Computer-aided diagnosis based on machine learning and signal analysis has recently been applied to identify biomarkers for the accurate prediction of hypertension. This research proposes a new expert hypertension detection system (EHDS) from pulse plethysmograph (PuPG) signals for the categorization of normal and hypertension. The PuPG signal data set, including rich information of cardiac activity, was acquired from healthy and hypertensive subjects. The raw PuPG signals were preprocessed through empirical mode decomposition (EMD) by decomposing a signal into its constituent components. A combination of multi-domain features was extracted from the preprocessed PuPG signal. The features exhibiting high discriminative characteristics were selected and reduced through a proposed hybrid feature selection and reduction (HFSR) scheme. Selected features were subjected to various classification methods in a comparative fashion in which the best performance of 99.4% accuracy, 99.6% sensitivity, and 99.2% specificity was achieved through weighted k-nearest neighbor (KNN-W). The performance of the proposed EHDS was thoroughly assessed by tenfold cross-validation. The proposed EHDS achieved better detection performance in comparison to other electrocardiogram (ECG) and photoplethysmograph (PPG)-based methods.

Abstract
Ivermectin (IVM) is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic agent, having inhibitory potential against wide range of viral infections. It has also been found to hamper SARS-CoV-2 replication in vitro, and its precise mechanism of action against SARS-CoV-2 is yet to be understood. IVM is known to interact with host importin (IMP)α directly and averts interaction with IMPβ1, leading to the prevention of nuclear localization signal (NLS) recognition. Therefore, the current study seeks to employ molecular docking, molecular mechanics generalized Born surface area (MM-GBSA) analysis and molecular dynamics simulation studies for decrypting the binding mode, key interacting residues as well as mechanistic insights on IVM interaction with 15 potential drug targets associated with COVID-19 as well as IMPα. Among all COVID-19 targets, the non-structural protein 9 (Nsp9) exhibited the strongest affinity to IVM showing -5.30 kcal/mol and -84.85 kcal/mol binding energies estimated by AutoDock Vina and MM-GBSA, respectively. However, moderate affinity was accounted for IMPα amounting -6.9 kcal/mol and -66.04 kcal/mol. Stability of the protein-ligand complexes of Nsp9-IVM and IMPα-IVM was ascertained by 100 ns trajectory of all-atom molecular dynamics simulation. Structural conformation of protein in complex with docked IVM exhibited stable root mean square deviation while root mean square fluctuations were also found to be consistent. In silico exploration of the potential targets and their interaction profile with IVM can assist experimental studies as well as designing of COVID-19 drugs.

Abstract
Background and Objective: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) can sample broad domains of knowledge efficiently and reliably. The MCQs of lower order C1(Cognitive Level1=Recall of knowledge) do not fulfill this purpose and those of higher cognitive order C2 (Cognitive Level2=Interpret) &C3(Cognitive Level3=Analyze) are better at assessing the problem solving capabilities of the student. Every good educational activity must be supported by quality examination to complete the objectives of a curriculum. The objective of the study was to evaluate MCQs presently being used in internal examinations of medical colleges in Lahore.
Methods: Papers consisting of MCQs from Orthopedics other specialties were collected in June 2019 from different medical colleges of Lahore and reviewed by a senior medical teacher without blinding and without his knowing the scores the students had been awarded before. Question statement, clinical scenarios, options and other mistakes were assessed in each item on predetermined criteria. Cognitive level of the item was determined if it was asking for a recall/identify/ analyze response. The results were tabulated and compared in two groups i.e. Miscellaneous and Orthopedics.
Results: Most of the items(total=589) in both groups were of C1 cognitive level though Orthopedics (229) were slightly better (χ2 = 49.882 P-Value = 0.000 (Statistically Significant). Miscellaneous group (360) was better in quality in making clinical scenarios (χ2 = 29.952 P-Value = 0.000 (Statistically Significant) and writing a question statement without confusion. Options were better written in both groups. A good percentage of items needed to be corrected for mistakes in spellings, grammar and segregation into under graduate level.
Conclusions: The cognitive level of assessment tool s MCQs is quiet low in both groups especially clinical scenario construction can be improved. Mistakes in spellings, grammar and conceptual mediocrity is common in both groups.

Abstract
The use of plant allelopathy to control weeds in the field has been generally recognized as a win-win strategy because it is an environmentally friendly and resource-saving method. The mechanism of this natural weed-control method relies on allelochemicals, the rhizosphere microbiome, and their bio-interaction, and exploring the link between allelochemicals and specific microbes helps accelerate the application of allelopathic characteristics in farming. In this study, we used allelopathic rice PI312777 (PI), its genetically modified OsPAL2-1 repression (PR) or overexpression (PO) lines, and non-allelopathic rice Lemont (Le) as donor plants to reveal the bio-interaction between rice allelochemicals and rhizosphere specific microorganisms. The results showed a higher content of phenolic acid exudation from the roots of PI than those of Le, which resulted in a significantly increased population of Myxococcus in the rhizosphere soil. Transgenic PO lines exhibited increasing exudation of phenolic acid, which led to the population of Myxococcus xanthus in the rhizosphere soil of PO to be significantly increased, while PR showed the opposite result in comparison with wild type PI. Exogenous application of phenolic acid induced the growth of M. xanthus, and the expressions of chemotaxis-related genes were up-regulated in M. xanthus. In addition, quercetin was identified in the culture medium; according to the bioassay determination, a quercetin concentration of 0.53 mM inhibited the root length by 60.59%. Our study indicates that OsPAL2-1 is among the efficient genes that regulate rice allelopathy by controlling the synthesis of phenolic acid allelochemicals, and phenolic acid (ferulic acid, FA) induces the chemotactic aggregation of M. xanthus, which promoted the proliferation and aggregation of this microbe. The potential allelochemical, quercetin was generated from the FA-induced M. xanthus cultured medium.

Abstract
SNAREs (Soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptors) help intracellular vesicle trafficking and membrane fusion among eukaryotes. They are vital for growth and development of phyto-pathogenic fungi such as Fusarium graminearum which causes Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) of wheat and barley. The SNARE protein Syn8 and its homologues play many roles among different organisms. Here, we have characterized FgSyn8 in F. graminearum as a homologue of Syn8. We have integrated biochemical, microbiological and molecular genetic approaches to investigate the roles of this protein. Our results reveal that FgSyn8 is indispensable for normal vegetative growth, conidiation, conidial morphology and pathogenicity of F. graminearum. Deoxynivalenol (DON) biochemical assay reveals active participation of this protein in DON production of F. graminearum. This has further been confirmed by the production of bulbous structures among the intercalary hyphae. FgSyn8 mutant strain produced defects in perithecia formation which portrays its role in sexual reproduction. In summary, our results support that the SNARE protein FgSyn8 is required for vegetative growth, sexual reproduction, DON production and pathogenicity of F. graminearum.

Abstract
Consecutive monoculture of Rehmannia glutinosa in the same field leads to a severe decline in both quality and yield of tuberous roots, the most useful part in traditional Chinese medicine. Fungi are an important and diverse group of microorganisms in the soil ecosystem and play crucial roles in soil health. In this study, high-throughput pyrosequencing of internal transcribed spacer 2 ribosomal DNA amplicons was applied to gain insight into how consecutive monoculture practice influence and stimulate R. glutinosa rhizosphere and bulk soil fungal communities. The results from nonmetric multidimensional scaling ordination and clustering analysis revealed distinctive differences between rhizosphere and bulk soil fungal communities. However, longer-term monocultured bulk soils were more similar to the rhizosphere soils in comparison with the shorter-term monocultured bulk soils. Moreover, consecutive monoculture caused a gradual shift in the composition and structure of the soil fungal community. The cultivation of this plant led to the appearance of some exclusive operational taxonomic units in rhizosphere or bulk soils that were assigned to the genera Fusarium, Rhizoctonia, and so on. Furthermore, the sum of the relative abundance of species of Fusarium, Cylindrocarpon, and Gibberella (belonging to the family Nectriaceae); Rhizoctonia, Thanatephorus, and Ceratobasidium (belonging to the family Ceratobasidiaceae); and Lectera and Plectosporium (belonging to the family Plectosphaerellaceae) was significantly higher in consecutively monocultured (CM) than in newly planted (NP) soil in both rhizosphere and bulk soils. In particular, Fusarium abundance was significantly higher in CM than in NP in the rhizosphere, and higher in rhizosphere soils than in bulk soils for each treatment. A pathogenicity test showed that both Fusarium strains isolated were pathogenic to R. glutinosa seedlings. In addition, the culture filtrate and mycotoxins produced by Fusarium oxysporum significantly repressed the growth of the antagonistic bacterium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa. In conclusion, consecutive monoculture of R. glutinosa restructured the fungal communities in both rhizosphere and bulk soils but bulk effects developed more slowly over time in comparison with rhizosphere effects. Furthermore, microbial interactions might lead to a reduction in the abundance of beneficial microbes.

Abstract
Nitrogen (N) is an essential element usually limiting in plant growth and a basic factor for increasing the input cost in agriculture. To ensure the food security and environmental sustainability it is urgently required to manage the N fertilizer. The identification or development of genotypes with high nitrogen utilization efficiency (NUE) which can grow efficiently and sustain yield in low N conditions is a possible solution. In this study, two isogenic rice genotypes i.e., wild-type rice kitaake and its transgenic line PP2C9TL overexpressed protein phosphatase gene (PP2C9) were used for comparative proteomics analysis at control and low level of N to identify specific proteins and encoding genes related to high NUE. 2D gel electrophoresis was used to perform the differential proteome analysis. In the leaf proteome, 30 protein spots were differentially expressed between the two isogenic lines under low N level which were involved in the process of energy, photosynthesis, N metabolism, signaling, and defense mechanisms. In addition, we have found that protein phosphatase enhances nitrate reductase activation by downregulation of SnRK1 and 14-3-3 proteins. Furthermore, we showed that PP2C9TL exhibits higher NUE than WT due to higher activity of nitrate reductase. This study provides new insights on the rice proteome which would be useful in the development of new strategies to increase NUE in cereal crops.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pseudostellaria heterophylla (P. heterophylla), a herbaceous perennial, belongs to Caryophyllaceae family and is one of the Chinese herbal medicine with high pharmacodynamic value. It can be used to treat the spleen deficiency, anorexia, weakness after illness and spontaneous perspiration symptoms. Our previous study found that consecutive monoculture of Pseudostellaria heterophylla could lead to the deterioration of the rhizosphere microenvironment. The specialized forms of pathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum f.Sp. heterophylla (F. oxysporum) in rhizosphere soils of P. heterophylla plays an important role in the consecutive monoculture of P. heterophylla. RESULTS In this study, F. oxysporum was used to infect the tissue culture plantlets of P. heterophylla to study the responding process at three different infection stages by using RNA-sequencing. We obtained 127,725 transcripts and 47,655 distinct unigenes by de novo assembly and obtained annotated information in details for 25,882 unigenes. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis and the real-time quantitative PCR results suggest that the calcium signal system and WRKY transcription factor in the plant-pathogen interaction pathway may play an important role in the response process, and all of the WRKY transcription factor genes were divided into three different types. Moreover, we also found that the stimulation of F. oxysporum may result in the accumulation of some phenolics in the plantlets and the programmed cell death of the plantlets. CONCLUSIONS This study has partly revealed the possible molecular mechanism of the population explosion of F. oxysporum in rhizosphere soils and signal response process, which can be helpful in unraveling the role of F. oxysporum in consecutive monoculture problems of P. heterophylla.

Abstract
A three-year field monoculture trial of Radix pseudostellariae and complementary laboratory studies were conducted to further elucidate the underlying mechanism responsible for significant decreases in the biomass yield and quality of R. pseudostellariae under continuous monoculture regimes. HPLC analysis indicated that continuous monoculture soil was rich in organic acids, which had cumulative effects over time. Further analysis suggested that the application of a mixture of organic acids significantly promoted growth of pathogenic fungi, and increased the expression of chemotaxis-related gene (cheA) and biofilm formation of the specific pathogenic Kosakonia sacchari. However, opposite reactions were observed in the case of Bacillus megaterium and Bacillus pumilus. Concurrently, the present results revealed that the mixed organic acids stimulated the production of toxins, as well as H2O2 in the pathogenic fungi. Furthermore, the presence of organic acids reflecting environmental conditions under monocropping had negative effects on the expression of the biocontrol-related genes, which resulted in attenuated antagonistic activities of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) to suppress mycelial growth of the pathogenic fungi. These results help to unveil the mechanisms associated with how accumulated organic acids differentially mediate deterioration of soil microbial composition and structure in monocropping system.

Abstract
CONTEXT Calendula officinalis L. (Asteraceae) has been traditionally used in treating inflammation of internal organs, gastrointestinal tract ulcers and wound healing. OBJECTIVE The present study investigates the effect of ethanol extract (95%) of Calendula officinalis flowers in l-arginine induced acute necrotizing pancreatitis in rats. MATERIALS AND METHODS Rats were divided into four groups: normal control, l-arginine control, Calendula officinalis extract (COE) treated and melatonin treated (positive control), which were further divided into subgroups (24 h, day 3 and 14) according to time points. Two injections of l-arginine 2 g/kg i.p. at 1 h intervals were administered in l-arginine control, COE and melatonin-treated groups to produce acute necrotizing pancreatitis. Biochemical parameters [serum amylase, lipase, pancreatic amylase, nucleic acid content, total proteins, transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), collagen content, lipid peroxidation, reduced glutathione and nitrite/nitrate] and histopathological studies were carried out. RESULTS COE treatment (400 mg/kg p.o.) was found to be beneficial. This was evidenced by significantly lowered histopathological scores (2 at day 14). Nucleic acid content (DNA 21.1 and RNA 5.44 mg/g pancreas), total proteins (0.66 mg/mL pancreas) and pancreatic amylase (1031.3 100 SU/g pancreas) were significantly improved. Marked reduction in pancreatic oxidative and nitrosative stress; collagen (122 μmoles/100 mg pancreas) and TGF-β1 (118.56 pg/mL) levels were noted. Results obtained were comparable to those of positive control. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION The beneficial effect of COE may be attributed to its antioxidant, antinitrosative and antifibrotic actions. Hence, the study concludes that COE promotes spontaneous repair and regeneration of the pancreas.

Abstract
Placenta accreta (an abnormally adherent placenta) is one of the two leading causes of peripartum hemorrhage and the most common indication for peripartum hysterectomy. Placenta accreta may be associated with significant maternal hemorrhage at delivery owing to the incomplete placental separation. When placenta accreta is diagnosed before delivery, a multidisciplinary approach may improve patient outcome.

Abstract
Under consecutive monoculture, the biomass and quality of Pseudostellaria heterophylla declines significantly. In this study, a three-year field experiment was conducted to identify typical growth inhibition effects caused by extended monoculturing of P. heterophylla. Deep pyrosequencing was used to examine changes in the structure and composition of soil fungal community along a three-year gradient of monoculture. The results revealed a distinct separation between the newly planted plot and the two-year, three-year monocultured plots. The Shannon and Simpson diversity indices were significantly higher in the two-year and three-year monoculture soils than in the newly planted soil. Consecutive monoculture of this plant led to a significant increase in relative abundance of Fusarium, Trichocladium and Myrothecium and Simplicillium, etc., but a significant decrease in the relative abundance of Penicillium. Quantitative PCR analysis confirmed a significant increase in Fusarium oxysporum, an agent known to cause wilt and rot disease of P. heterophylla. Furthermore, phenolic acid mixture at a ratio similar to that found in the rhizosphere could promote mycelial growth of pathogenic F. oxysporum. Overall, this study demonstrated that consecutive monoculture of P. heterophylla can alter the fungal community in the rhizosphere, including enrichment of host-specific pathogenic fungi at the expense of plant-beneficial fungi.

Abstract
Epidermolysis bullosa is a group of inherited rare skin disease, characterized by bullae formation in the skin or mucous membranes. The fundamental abnormality is collagen degeneration leads to splitting of various epidermal layers. Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) is one of the major forms of epidermolysis bullosa. These patients often admitted to the hospital for corrective surgeries, change of dressing, contracture release, and skin grafting. Anesthetic management of these cases is always a challenge. We are reporting a case of 5-year-old boy diagnosed as a case of DEB scheduled for upper lip contracture release, skin grafting and debridement of nonhealing scars under anesthesia. In this case, we have focused mainly on the anesthetic management, preparation of the monitoring, transportation, difficulties in establishing the venous accesses, and airway management.

Abstract
The current study investigated the hepatoprotective effect of trans-Chalcone in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) and paracetamol (PCM) induced liver damage in rats. Administration of CCl4 and PCM (1 mL/kg, i.p., 3 days, and 2 g/kg, p.o., single dose, respectively) produced hepatic injury. Ponderal changes (percent change in body mass and relative liver mass) and biochemical parameters (serum ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin) were estimated. The markers of oxidative and nitrosative stress (TBARS, reduced GSH, nitrite and nitrate), hepatic fibrosis (TGF-β1, collagen content), hepatic inflammation (TNF-α), and histopathological study were evaluated. trans-Chalcone (5, 10, and 20 mg/kg, i.p.) was found to be beneficial as demonstrated by significant reversal of liver histology by perceptible reduction of inflammatory cell infiltration with regenerative changes in hepatocytes. Improvement in percent change in body mass and significant reduction in relative liver mass were observed. Marked reduction in serum levels of ALT, AST, ALP, and bilirubin were noted. Decreases in TBARS and nitrites and nitrates and increases in reduced GSH levels were noted. Hepatic fibrosis and inflammation were significantly decreased. The findings indicate a novel hepatoprotective role for trans-Chalcone by improving hepatic injury by possible actions such as anti-oxidant, anti-nitrosative, anti-fibrotic, and anti-inflammatory. Hence, it can be used as promising hepatoprotective agent.

Abstract
Resonant propagating waves created on the surface of a dielectric multilayer stack, called Bloch surface waves (BSW), can be designed for high sensitivity monitoring of the adjacent refractive index as an alternative platform to the metal-based surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensing. The resonant wavelength and polarization can be designed by engineering of the dielectric layers unlike the fixed resonance of SPR, while the wide bandwidth low loss of dielectrics permits sharper resonances, longer propagation lengths and thus their use in waveguiding devices. The transparency of the dielectrics allows the excitation and monitoring of surface-bound fluorescent molecules. We review the recent developments in this technology. We show the advantages that can be obtained by using high index contrast layered structures. Operating at 1550 nm wavelengths will allow the BSW sensors to be implemented in the silicon photonics platform where active waveguiding can be used in the realization of compact planar integrated circuits for multi-parameter sensing.

Abstract
Single and multi-layer passive optical interconnects using single mode polymer waveguides are demonstrated using UV nano-imprint lithography. The fabrication tolerances associated with imprint lithography are investigated and we show a way to experimentally quantify a small variation in index contrast between core and cladding of fabricated devices. 1x2 splitting devices based on directional couplers and multimode interference interferometers are demonstrated to have less than 0.45 dB insertion loss with 0.02 ± 0.01 dB power imbalance between the outputs. We demonstrate an 'optical via' with an insertion loss less than 0.45 dB to transfer light from one optical signal plane to another. A 1x4 two-dimensional optical port is experimentally demonstrated to spatially split the input power with an insertion loss of 1.2 dB.

Abstract
Textile effluent is one of the main contributors of water pollution and it adversely affects fauna and flora. Constructed wetland is a promising approach to remediate the industrial effluent. The detoxification of industrial effluent in a constructed wetland system may be enhanced by applying beneficial bacteria that are able to degrade contaminants present in industrial effluent. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of inoculation of textile effluent-degrading endophytic bacteria on the detoxification of textile effluent in a vertical flow constructed wetland reactor. A wetland plant, Typha domingensis, was vegetated in reactor and inoculated with two endophytic bacterial strains, Microbacterium arborescens TYSI04 and Bacillus pumilus PIRI30. These strains possessed textile effluent-degrading and plant growth-promoting activities. Results indicated that bacterial inoculation improved plant growth, textile effluent degradation and mutagenicity reduction and were correlated with the population of textile effluent-degrading bacteria in the rhizosphere and endosphere of T. domingensis. Bacterial inoculation enhanced textile effluent-degrading bacterial population in rhizosphere, root and shoot of T. domingensis. Significant reductions in COD (79%), BOD (77%) TDS (59%) and TSS (27%) were observed by the combined use of plants and bacteria within 72 h. The resultant effluent meets the wastewater discharge standards of Pakistan and can be discharged into the environment without any risks. This study revealed that the combined use of plant and endophytic bacteria is one of the approaches to enhance textile effluent degradation in a constructed wetland system.
