Abstract
BACKGROUND Various cell culture platforms that could display native environmental cue-mimicking stimuli were developed, and effects of environmental cues on cell behaviors were studied with the cell culture platforms. Likewise, various cell culture platforms mimicking native trabecular meshwork (TM) composed of juxtacanalicular, corneoscleral and uveal meshwork located in internal scleral sulcus were used to study effects of environmental cues and/or drug treatments on TM cells and glaucoma development. Glaucoma is a disease that could cause blindness, and cause of glaucoma is not clearly identified yet. It appears that aqueous humor (AH) outflow resistance increased by damages on pathway of AH outflow can elevate intraocular pressure (IOP). These overall possibly contribute to development of glaucoma. METHODS For the study of glaucoma, static and dynamic cell culture platforms were developed. Particularly, the dynamic platforms exploiting AH outflow-mimicking perfusion or increased IOP-mimicking increased pressure were used to study how perfusion or increased pressure could affect TM cells. Overall, potential mechanisms of glaucoma development, TM structures and compositions, TM cell culture platform types and researches on TM cells and glaucoma development with the platforms were described in this review. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION This will be useful to improve researches on TM cells and develop enhanced therapies targeting glaucoma.

Clinical characteristics of open-angle glaucoma progression with peripapillary microvasculature dropout in different locations. Eye (Lond) 2024; 38:284-291. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The study attempted to identify clinical characteristics associated with structural progression in open-angle glaucoma (OAG) in the presence of MvD in different locations. METHODS A total of 181 consecutive OAG eyes (follow-up 7.3 ± 4.0 years), which demonstrated peripapillary choroidal MvD (defined as a focal capillary loss with no visible microvascular network in choroidal layer) on optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography (OCTA), were divided based on the location of MvD. Structural progression was determined using trend-based analysis of the Guided Progression Analysis software of Cirrus OCT. RESULTS MvD was identified in the temporal quadrant in 110 eyes (temporal MvD; 60.5 ± 12.6 years), and in the inferior quadrant in 71 eyes (inferior MvD; 60.3 ± 11.1 years). After adjusting for age, average intraocular pressure (IOP) and baseline retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) thickness and visual field mean deviation, inferior MvD eyes showed faster rates of thinning in the inferior RNFL (mean (95% CI); -0.833 (-1.298 to -0.367)) compared to temporal MvD eyes (-0.144 (-0.496 to 0.207)) when long-term IOP fluctuation was larger than the median value (1.7 mmHg; P = 0.022). Long-term IOP fluctuations were independently associated with inferior RNFL thinning in eyes with inferior MvD (P = 0.002) but not in eyes with temporal MvD. CONCLUSIONS In OAG eyes, the rates of RNFL and GCIPL thinning were comparable regardless of MvD locations. However, inferior MvD is associated with faster RNFL and GCIPL thinning in the same quadrant when long-term IOP fluctuation is present. Structural progression in the presence of temporal MvD was less associated with IOP fluctuation.

Abstract
In this study, we design a smart building block with quantum-dot light-emitting diode (QLED) and colored radiative cooling devices. A smart light-emitting building block is fabricated using a bottom-inverted QLED that emits green light, an insulating layer, and a top radiative cooling structure that emits mid-infrared light. The heat generated during QLED operation is measured and analyzed to investigate the correlation between heat and QLED degradation. The top cooling part is designed to have no impact on the QLED's performance and utilizes Ag-polydimethylsiloxane as a visible-light reflector and mid-infrared absorber/emitter. For the colored cooling part, white radiative cooling paint is used instead of Ag-polydimethylsiloxane to improve cooling performance, and red and yellow paints are employed to realize vivid red and yellow colors, respectively. We demonstrate a smart imitation house system with a smart light-emitting building block as the roof and analyze the cooling of the heat generated during QLED operation. A maximum cooling effect of up to 9.6 °C is observed compared to the imitation house system without the smart light-emitting building block, effectively dissipating heat generated during QLED operation. The smart light-emitting building block presented in this study opens new avenues in the fields of lighting and cooling systems.

Visit-to-visit variability in blood pressure and the risk of open-angle glaucoma in individuals without systemic hypertension: a nationwide population-based cohort study. Abstract
Purpose We aimed to evaluate the effect of visit-to-visit variability in blood pressure (BP) on the risk of open-angle glaucoma (OAG) in individuals without systemic hypertension using a population-based retrospective cohort study design. Methods The Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Health Screening Cohort database, which collected data of 209,226 individuals between 2002 and 2015, was used to analyze the data of 140,910 eligible participants. The mean follow-up duration was 8.3 years. Visit-to-visit BP variability was assessed using standard deviation (SD), coefficient of variation (CV), and variability independent of the mean (VIM). Participants were categorized into four groups according to BP variability quartiles. We verified the effect of BP variability by comparing participants of the first to third quartiles of BP variability groups with those belonging to the fourth quartile group. A Cox proportional hazards model was used to determine the hazard ratio (HR) of BP variability in cases of newly diagnosed OAG. Moreover, we conducted subgroup analyses using baseline characteristics. Results In the multivariable analyses, BP variability did not significantly increase the risk of OAG development. However, subgroup analyses revealed significant interactions between age and systolic BP variability in the development of OAG (CV: p = 0.008; SD: p = 0.007). For participants aged <60 years, the risk of OAG development significantly increased with high systolic BP variability (CV: HR, 1.18; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.00-1.39; p = 0.049). We observed a similar trend using the SD and VIM as the parameters for systolic BP variability. Conclusion Higher visit-to-visit systolic BP variability was associated with an increased risk of OAG development in participants younger than 60 years of age without systemic hypertension. These results suggest that BP variability can be the considerable factor when assessing the risk of OAG, especially in relatively young people without systemic hypertension.

Abstract
Perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have emerged as a promising building block for the fabrication of optic-/optoelectronic-/electronic devices owing to their superior characteristics, such as high absorption coefficient, rapid ion mobilities, and tunable energy levels. However, their low structural stability and poor surface passivation have restricted their application to next-generation devices. Herein, a drug delivery system (DDS)-inspired post-treatment strategy is reported for improving their structural stability by doping of Ag into CsPbBr3 (CPB) perovskite NCs; delivery to damaged sites can promote their structural recovery slowly and uniformly, averting the permanent loss of their intrinsic characteristics. Ag NCs are designed through surface-chemistry tuning and structural engineering to enable their circulation in CPB NC dispersions, followed by their delivery to the CPB NC surface, defect-site recovery, and defect prevention. The perovskite-structure healing process through the DDS-type process (with Ag NCs as the drug) is analyzed by a combination of theoretical calculations (with density functional theory) and experimental analyses. The proposed DDS-inspired healing strategy significantly enhances the optical properties and stability of perovskite NCs, enabling the fabrication of white light-emitting diodes.

Abstract
Colored radiative cooling (CRC) offers an attractive alternative for surface and space cooling, while preserving the aesthetics of an object. However, there has been no study on the CRC using phosphors in regard to vivid coloration, sophisticated performance investigation, retention of properties, functionality, and structural flexibility all at once. Thus, to manage the entire solar spectrum, a colored cooling structure comprising a near-infrared (NIR)-reflective bottom layer and a top colored layer with a phosphor-embedded polymer matrix is proposed. The structure is paintable, vividly colored, hydrophobic, and ultraviolet (UV) and water resistant. In the daytime outdoor measurement, the structure with red, orange, and yellow colors exhibited lower temperature than a control group using commercial white paint by 4.7 °C, 7.2 °C, and 7.4 °C, respectively. After precise theoretical and experimental time-tracing temperature validation, the CRC performance enhancement from NIR reflection and photoluminescence effects was thoroughly analyzed, and a temperature reduction of up to 16.1 °C was achieved for the orange-colored structure. Furthermore, experiments of hydrophobicity infusion and exposure to UV and deionized water verified the durability of the colored cooling structure. In addition, flexible-film-type colored cooling structures were demonstrated using different bottom reflective layers, such as a silver thin film and porous aluminum oxide particle-embedded poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene), suggesting the potential applicability of these colored cooling structures for vivid-colored, functional, and durable CRC.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a rare, highly aggressive tumor, with median survival around 5 months. Approximately half of the ATC patients presents with distant metastases at diagnosis, showing even more devastating prognosis, yet no outcome analysis had been reported. In this study, we aim to evaluate the clinical outcome of M1 ATC patients, and to define the group of patients who would benefit from local treatment based on multi-disciplinary approach. MATERIALS/METHODS A total of 133 histology-confirmed ATC patients underwent protocol-based multidisciplinary treatment including surgery and chemoradiotherapy (CRT) between May 2016 and January 2022. Patients received intensity-modulated radiotherapy of 30 fractions concurrently with paclitaxel on days 1, 8 and 15 every 4 weeks, and lenvatinib was added upon progression. After 18 fractions of CRT, interim response analysis using modified RECIST was conducted for adaptive treatment planning. We reviewed 58 patients with distant metastasis at diagnosis (stage IVC). Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) were measured from the day of diagnosis. RESULTS Most common metastatic site was lung (91.4%), followed by bone (31.0%) and brain (5.2%). Lenvatinib was added for 35 patients after any sign of progression. Fourteen patients received upfront surgery (16 debulking and 5 total) followed by adjuvant CRT in 16 patients. Thirty-one patients received upfront CRT with 2 patients receiving total resection after sufficient down-staging. Six (10%) patients could not complete radiotherapy but continued receiving systemic treatment. The median follow-up was 5.9 months. The median and 1-year OS were 6.2 months and 20.5%, and PFS were 3.7 months and 3.5%. Total RT dose over 60 Gy significantly improved median OS (7.5 vs 4.1 months, p = 0.012) and median PFS (4.4 vs 3.0, p = 0.010). Patients with less than 10 initial metastatic tumors showed better median OS (9.1 vs 4.6 months, p = 0.002) but not PFS (5.1 vs 3.6, p = 0.485). At interim analysis, early response (CR, PR and SD) of primary tumor was not associated with survival, while progression of distant metastases showed significantly worse median OS (9.8 vs 4.6 months, p = 0.001). More than 10 metastatic tumors (HR 2.73, 95% CI 1.32-5.66) and stable metastasis at interim analysis (HR 2.39, 95% CI 1.04-5.48) remained as significant factor in the multivariable cox regression analysis. Median OS and PFS of patients with less than 10 metastases showing no progression at interim analysis were 9.1 months, and 5.1 months. CONCLUSION Local treatment combined with chemotherapy for M1 ATC patients showed outcome comparable to those of non-metastatic ATC results. Active local treatment should be considered especially for patients with less than 10 metastases, and patients without distant progression in early response evaluation.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of antihypertensive medication on risks of open-angle glaucoma (OAG) among patients diagnosed with hypertension (HTN). A total of 5,195 patients, who were diagnosed with HTN between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2015, and subsequently diagnosed with OAG, were selected for analysis. For each OAG patient, 5 non-glaucomatous, hypertensive controls were matched (n = 25,975) in hypertension diagnosis date, residential area, insurance type and economic status. Antihypertensive medications were stratified into 5 types: angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEi), angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB), calcium channel blockers (CCB), β-blockers and diuretics. Relative risks were calculated. After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, lifestyle, comorbidities, blood pressure (BP), follow-up duration, and use of other types of antihypertensive drugs, ARB and CCB were found to slightly increase OAG risks (RR 1.1087 (95% CI 1.0293-1.1942); 1.0694 (1.0077-1.1349), respectively). Combinations of ARB with diuretics (1.0893 (1.0349-1.1466)) and CCB (1.0548 (1.0122-1.0991)) also increased OAG risks. The risks for OAG were found to increase by antihypertensive medication use, but the effects appeared to be small. Further studies are necessary to identify the associations of increased BP, medication and therapeutic effect with OAG.

Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this study was to identify possible associations between obstructive pulmonary function and macular structure parameters on optical coherence tomography (OCT) and angiography in subjects without glaucomatous optic neuropathy. Methods A total of 70 patients were prospectively enrolled from June to December 2021 as a part of All About Life Yongin-Pulmonary/Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Eye (AALY PRE) cohort in Yongin Severance Hospital. Patients underwent intraocular pressure (IOP), visual acuity measurements, cirrus OCT, OCT angiography, and pulmonary function testing (PFT) on the same day. Subjects with glaucomatous optic nerve damage were excluded. Those whose first second of forced expiration (FEV1) to forced vital capacity (FVC) ratio was below 70% were diagnosed with obstructive pulmonary function. Vessel densities (VDs) of retinal superficial vascular plexus were compared. Results Patients with obstructive function (n = 30) were significantly older than those with normal pulmonary function (n = 40, P < 0.001). After adjusting for age, IOP, and average ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thickness, macular VD was significantly decreased in all sectors except for the nasal sector in subjects with obstructive pulmonary function in comparison to those with normal function (P = 0.006). Multivariate regression analysis demonstrated that macular VD was linearly associated with FEV1/FVC (β = 0.102, P = 0.031). In subjects with obstructive function, the severity of pulmonary obstruction, FEV1, was linearly associated with GCIPLT (β = 0.302, P = 0.017). Conclusions Obstructive pulmonary function is associated with reduced macular VD in subjects without glaucoma. Among subjects with obstructive pulmonary function, the severity of pulmonary obstruction is associated with GCIPL thickness in the macular region. Further studies are needed on the relationship between pulmonary function and macular disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cystoid macular edema is a known complication of omidenepag isopropyl usage. Omidenepag isopropyl is a selective prostanoid EP2 receptor agonist, and its association with macular edema has mainly been identified in pseudophakic eyes. Herein, we report a case of cystoid macular edema caused by omidenepag isopropyl use in a phakic eye with an implantable collamer lens. CASE PRESENTATION A 38-year-old woman was diagnosed with left eye glaucoma and prescribed omidenepag isopropyl. She had undergone bilateral implantation of implantable collamer lenses approximately 12 years prior to the glaucoma diagnosis. After 9 months of using omidenepag isopropyl, she presented with blurred vision in the left eye; swept source optical coherence tomography revealed cystoid macular edema in this eye. Omidenepag isopropyl usage was discontinued, and bromfenac sodium hydrate was administered twice daily instead. After 2 months, the patient's visual discomfort was completely ameliorated. Additionally, an optical coherence tomography examination confirmed that the macula had normalized. CONCLUSIONS We report a case of cystoid macular edema development after omidenepag isopropyl use in a patient with glaucoma who had undergone bilateral implantable collamer lens implantation. This case shows that the possibility of cystoid macular edema occurrence should be considered when omidenepag isopropyl is used, even in phakic eyes, after the insertion of implantable collamer lenses.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of intraoperative mitomycin C (MMC) on the surgical outcomes of ciliary sulcus (CS) Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) tube placement. METHODS A retrospective review of medical records of 54 consecutive patients who underwent AGV implantation with tube placed in CS was performed. Consecutive cases operated without the use of intraoperative MMC from 2017 to 2019 were compared with consecutive cases operated with MMC from 2019 to 2021. Surgical failure was defined as intraocular pressure (IOP) exceeding 21 mmHg in two consecutive visits after postoperative 3 months or ≤30% IOP reduction, IOP ≤5 mmHg in two consecutive visits, or loss of light perception. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log-rank test were performed to compare the surgical failure rates. RESULTS A total of 54 eyes of 54 patients were investigated. Mean follow-up period after AGV implantation was 1.4 ± 0.8 years. The MMC group showed significantly lower IOP during the 1st postoperative month (20.5 ± 8.6 mmHg vs. 15.8 ± 6.4 mmHg, p = 0.027), but the difference did not persist 6 months after the surgery (p = 0.805). The mean number of postoperative antiglaucoma medications was significantly lower in the MMC group in the 1st postoperative month (p = 0.047) but no difference was found at 6 months. No statistical difference was noted in the rates of postoperative complications. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed comparable survival rates between MMC group and no MMC group (p = 0.356). CONCLUSIONS The intraoperative use of MMC significantly lowered IOP in the 1st postoperative month but did not increase 6 months success rates in patients receiving AGV tube placement in CS.

METHODS A total of 48 eyes with optic neuritis was evaluated to identify the presence of peripapillary choroidal MvD, defined as a focal capillary loss with no visible microvascular network in choroidal layer, using optical coherence tomography (OCT) angiography (OCTA). Patients were divided based on the presence of MvD. OCT and standard automated perimetry (SAP) conducted at 1, 3 and 6 months follow-up were analyzed. RESULTS MvD was identified in 20 of 48 eyes (41.7%) with optic neuritis. MvD was most commonly found in the temporal quadrant (85.0%), and peripapillary retinal vessel density in the temporal quadrant was significantly lower in eyes with MvD (P = 0.012). At 6 months follow-up, optic neuritis eyes with MvD showed significantly thinner GCIP in superior, superotemporal, inferior and inferotemporal sectors (P<0.05). No significant difference was noted in SAP parameters. The presence of MvD was significantly associated with thinner global GCIP thickness at 6 months follow-up (OR 0.909, 95% CI 0.833-0.992, P = 0.032). CONCLUSION Optic neuritis showed peripapillary choroidal microvascular impairment in the form of MvD. MvD was associated with structural deterioration at macular GCIP. Further studies are necessary to identify the causal relationship between microvascular impairment and retinal nerve fiber layer damage in optic neuritis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We investigated the efficacy and safety of silkworm pupae extract (SWP) consumption for 12 weeks on muscle mass and strength in middle-aged and older individuals with relatively low skeletal muscle mass who do regular low-intensity exercise. DESIGN A randomized double-blinded placebo-controlled trial. PARTICIPANTS The study was conducted with 54 participants with relatively low skeletal muscle mass (SMM) (64.4 ± 6.1 years; body mass index, 23.8 ± 2.4 kg/m2). INTERVENTION AND MEASUREMENTS Participants were randomly assigned to one of two groups: 1000 mg of SWP/day plus regular exercise (SWP group, n=27) or placebo plus regular exercise (placebo group, n=27). All participants were required to engage in 30-60 minutes/day of walking for ≥3 days/week for 12 weeks. The primary outcome was knee extension/flexion strength (Nm), measured at the velocity of 60°/s. Secondary outcomes included body composition, biomarkers (creatine kinase and creatinine), handgrip strength, and quality of life questionnaire. RESULTS Both the intention-to-treat (ITT) and per-protocol (PP) analyses revealed no significant impact of SWP on knee strength compared to the placebo group over 12 weeks. On the other hand, the SWP group had significantly greater increases in right-handgrip strength by 1.94 kg (95% CI: 0.08-3.79; p = 0.041) and left-handgrip strength by 1.83 kg (0.25-3.41; p = 0.024) compared to the placebo group in the ITT population, after 12 weeks. Moreover, in the PP population, the SWP group revealed an even greater increase in right-handgrip strength by 2.07 kg (0.15-3. 98; p = 0.035) and left-handgrip strength by 2.21 kg (0.60-3.83; p = 0.008) for the 12-week period. However, this study resulted in a failure to detect significant differences in the body composition, biomarkers, quality of life questionnaire, physical activity, and caloric intake between the groups. None of the participants in the SWP group experienced any significant adverse events. In the placebo group, two participants experienced urticaria and allergic side effects, leading to their withdrawal from the study and two exhibited elevated levels of liver enzyme and increased diastolic blood pressure, respectively at 12 weeks. CONCLUSION SWP, in addition to low-intensity exercise, may enhance handgrip strengths in middle-aged and older adults with relatively lower SMM. Future studies need to use a large sample size over longer periods to validate our findings. This trial was registered at clinicaltrials.gov as NCT04994054.

Abstract
Stretchable electrodes are widely used in next-generation wearable electronics. Recent studies incorporated designs that help rigid electrodes attain stretchability. However, these structures exhibited unsatisfactory charge/signal extraction efficiency because of their low areal fill factor. Additionally, they cannot be photolithographically patterned on polymer substrates because of their low adhesion, requiring additional complicated fabrication steps. We developed photolithographically patternable stretchable electrodes with complete coverage and enhanced charge-extraction efficiency. The electrodes, comprising double layers, included a chemically treated Ag nanowire mesh and Au thin film. The interfacial linker role of polyvinylpyrrolidone chemically strengthened the interfacial bonds, and the reinforced concrete structure of nanowire-embedded metal thin films enhanced the mechanical properties. Therefore, the electrodes provided superior efficiency and stability in capturing physical, electromagnetic, and electrophysiological signals while exceeding the existing stretchable electrode limits. A broad range of applications are foreseen, such as electrocardiogram sensing electrodes, strain sensors, temperature sensors, and antennas.

Abstract
This paper presents a self-classifying smart device that intelligently differentiates and operates three functions: electroluminescence display, ultraviolet light sensor, and thermal management via radiative cooling. The optical and electrical properties of the materials and structures are designed to achieve a spectrum-selective response, which enables the integration of the aforementioned functions into one device without any noise or interference. Spectrum-selective materials that absorb, emit, and radiate light with ultraviolet to mid-infrared wavelengths and device structures designed to prevent interference are achieved by using thin metal films, dielectric layers, and nanocrystals. The designed self-classifying smart device exhibits bright blue light emission upon current supply (display), green light emission upon exposure to UV light (sensor), and radiative cooling (thermal management). Furthermore, a smart device and house system with a display, UV light sensor, and radiative cooling performance was demonstrated. The findings of this study open new avenues for device integration in next-generation wearable device fabrication.

Abstract
PRCIS Intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuations increase the risk of visual field progression of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in the advanced stage even when IOP is maintained low on average. PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors associated with the progression of visual field defect in patients with advanced POAG. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective review of medical records was conducted to identify patients who met the Hodapp-Parrish-Anderson criteria for advanced POAG. A total of 122 eyes of 122 patients had undergone IOP measurement with Goldmann applanation tonometer, standard automated perimetry, Cirrus optical coherence tomography, and fundus photography at 6-month intervals. Visual field progression was defined as the deterioration of a minimum of 3 visual field locations more than baseline at 5% levels in 4 consecutive visual fields with 24-2 SITA testing. RESULTS Thirty-six eyes of 122 eyes (29.5%, 51.9±13.9 y old) showed visual field progression during 100.7±44.2 months of follow-up. The progression group showed greater long-term IOP fluctuations (2.6±1.4 mm Hg) than the no progression group (53.5±13.5 y; 2.0±1.0 mm Hg, P=0.008). Disc hemorrhage was detected more frequently in the progression group (40.5% vs. 17.4%, P=0.005). Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed long-term IOP fluctuations [hazard ratio (HR)=2.567, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.327-5.370, P=0.012] and disc hemorrhage (HR=2.351, 95% CI: 1.120-4.931, P=0.024) to be independent risk factors of visual field progression. Patients who showed both disc hemorrhage and long-term IOP fluctuations were at greater risks of progression (HR=2.675, 95% CI: 1.072-6.457, P=0.035). CONCLUSIONS Long-term IOP fluctuations and disc hemorrhage are independent and additive risk factors of visual field progression in advanced glaucoma even at low IOPs. Patients in whom these risk factors are identified require close monitoring and vigorous treatment.

Abstract
Purpose The purpose was to identify association between systemic arterial stiffness predicted by brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (PWV) and initial location of structural progression in early open-angle glaucoma. Methods Patients with early open-angle glaucoma who underwent PWV measurements were subjected to a retrospective review of medical records. A total of 160 eyes of 160 patients were subjected to analyses. Patients were categorized into three PWV groups. Structural progression was determined using event-based analysis of the Guided Progression Analysis software of Cirrus optical coherence tomography. Results Thirty-eight patients had a PWV of 1400 cm/s or less on both the left and right sides (low PWV, 39.5% females, 53.9 ± 8.8 years old), and 46 patients showed a PWV of 1800 cm/s or more on either side (high PWV; 54.3% females, 71.3 ± 5.8 years old). The rest of the patients had an intermediate PWV (n = 76, 50.0% females, 59.8 ± 8.6 years old). Among patients who showed progression in 69.3 ± 41.5 months, macular ganglion cell–inner plexiform layer (mGCIPL) loss preceded peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (ppRNFL) loss in 86.7% of high PWV group (n = 15, 60.0% females, 70.0 ± 6.0 years old) in comparison with 26.7% of the low PWV group (P = 0.002). The PWV was significantly higher in patients whose structural progression was first observed at mGCIPL (1744.1 ± 347.7 cm/s) than patients whose initial location was ppRNFL (1452.0 ± 201.0 cm/s; P = 0.012). A high PWV was associated with increased likelihood of structural progression at mGCIPL (odds ratio, 7.484; 95% confidence interval, 1.212–49.196; P = 0.030) among patients who showed progression. Conclusions PWV is a significant predictor of the location of structural progression in open-angle glaucoma. Vascular insufficiency may be an important aspect in the pathogenesis of glaucoma.

Abstract
PRCIS Different clinical factors are associated with the location of the first structural progression in glaucoma. PURPOSE The aim was to investigate the underlying clinical parameters affecting the location of the initial structural progression of glaucoma in patients with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG). METHODS This retrospective study included 228 eyes of 228 patients with NTG. In total, 130 eyes of 130 patients demonstrated structural progression (as determined by event-based guided progression analysis using Cirrus HD-optical coherence tomography) in the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (ppRNFL) or macular ganglion cell inner plexiform layer (mGCIPL). Depending on where the progression occurred first, it was defined as either ppRNFL first progression or mGCIPL first progression. Clinical parameters associated with each first progression were identified using logistic regression. RESULTS In total, 50 eyes showed ppRNFL first progression and 64 eyes showed mGCIPL first progression. ppRNFL first progression was significantly associated with female sex [odds ratio (OR)=5.705, P=0.015], lack of systemic hypertension (OR=0.199, P=0.014), disc hemorrhage (OR=4.188, P=0.029), higher mean intraocular pressure (OR=1.300, P=0.03), and lower pattern SD (OR=0.784, P=0.028). In contrast, male sex (OR=0.450, P=0.043), lower central corneal thickness (OR=0.987, P=0.032), higher intraocular pressure fluctuation (OR=1.753, P=0.047), lower systolic blood pressure fluctuation (OR=0.839, P=0.002), and higher diastolic blood pressure fluctuation (OR=1.208, P=0.015) were significantly associated with mGCIPL first progression. CONCLUSIONS Different clinical factors were associated with the initial site of structural glaucoma progression in patients with NTG depending on its peripapillary or macular location, and these findings suggest possible differences in underlying mechanisms of glaucoma damage.

Abstract
Purpose This study investigated the effect of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) inhibition on the fibrosis of human Tenon's fibroblasts (HTFs) induced by transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β). Methods Quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot analyses were performed to determine the expression levels of molecules associated with the fibrosis of HTFs by TGF-β (fibronectin, collagen Iα, and α-smooth muscle actin) and GSK-3β. The levels of phosphorylated Smad2 and Smad3 were also analyzed in the presence of the GSK-3β inhibitor CHIR 99021. The wound healing assay was performed to determine the effect of CHIR 99021 on the migration of HTFs. All experiments were conducted using primary cultured HTFs or human tenon tissues obtained from normal subjects and patients with glaucoma. Results Treatment with TGF-β resulted in an increase in the levels of molecules associated with the fibrosis of HTFs. The expression levels of these molecules were higher in the tenon tissues obtained from patients with glaucoma than those from normal subjects. When the HTFs were treated with TGF-β, a significant increase in the active form of GSK-3β (Y216) was observed. A significant decrease in the active form of GSK-3β and molecules associated with fibrosis by TGF-β was noted in HTFs treated with CHIR 99021. CHIR 99021 treatment reduced the phosphorylated Smad2/Smad2 and phosphorylated Smad3/Smad3 ratios in HTFs and attenuated HTF migration. Conclusions Our results demonstrated the effect of GSK-3β inhibition on the regulation of TGF-β–mediated fibrosis of HTFs, suggesting GSK-3β to be a potential target for maintaining bleb function after glaucoma filtration surgery.

Abstract
Next-generation devices and systems require the development and integration of advanced materials, the realization of which inevitably requires two separate processes: property engineering and patterning. Here, we report a one-step, ink-lithography technique to pattern and engineer the properties of thin films of colloidal nanocrystals that exploits their chemically addressable surface. Colloidal nanocrystals are deposited by solution-based methods to form thin films and a local chemical treatment is applied using an ink-printing technique to simultaneously modify (i) the chemical nature of the nanocrystal surface to allow thin-film patterning and (ii) the physical electronic, optical, thermal, and mechanical properties of the nanocrystal thin films. The ink-lithography technique is applied to the library of colloidal nanocrystals to engineer thin films of metals, semiconductors, and insulators on both rigid and flexible substrates and demonstrate their application in high-resolution image replications, anticounterfeit devices, multicolor filters, thin-film transistors and circuits, photoconductors, and wearable multisensors.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate ocular surface diseases and changes in the quality of life (QOL) of patients using glaucoma medications. Methods Participants were divided into the normal (31 individuals, 62 eyes) and glaucoma medication (30 patients, 60 eyes) groups. Changes in tear break-up time (TBUT), lipid layer thickness (LLT), corneal and conjunctival staining scores, ocular surface disease index (OSDI), and visual function questionnaire 25 (VFQ-25) score were assessed for 1 year. Results The change in mean LLT was lower in glaucomatous eyes than in control eyes (P = 0.019) after 1 year. The results of OSDI deteriorated (P' = 0.008), but conjunctival staining and Schirmer test results showed improvement in glaucomatous eyes compared to those in control eyes (P' =0.035 and 0.009, respectively). The average LLT decreased at 6 and 12 months, but there was no change at 24 months. In pairwise analysis, the decrease in LLT over the first 6 months was statistically significant (P < 0.001), and remained unchanged until 24 months. Among the VFQ items, scores for near activity and social function deteriorated over 1 year in the medication group (P' = 0.033 and 0.015, respectively). However, there was no difference in the total VFQ score. Conclusions Significant reduction in LLT and deterioration of OSDI were observed in the medication group compared to the control group. However, this deterioration was observed only in the first 6 months. There was no significant difference in the VFQ total score. Nonetheless, there were significant differences in near activity and social function between the control and medication groups. Therefore, the results of this study showed that although glaucoma medication worsened eye dryness, the change was limited and did not worsen the QOL. Glaucoma medication should be used with the consideration that they can limit near activity and social functioning.

Abstract
This population-based, retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate the association between glaucoma surgery and all-cause and cause-specific mortality among Korean elderly patients with glaucoma. A total of 16210 elderly patients (aged ≥ 60 years) diagnosed with glaucoma between 2003 and 2012 were included, and their insurance data were analyzed. The participants were categorized into a glaucoma surgery cohort (n = 487), which included individuals who had diagnostic codes for open angle glaucoma (OAG) or angle closure glaucoma (ACG) and codes for glaucoma surgery, and a glaucoma diagnosis cohort (n = 15,723), which included patients who had codes for OAG and ACG but not for glaucoma surgery. Sociodemographic factors, Charlson Comorbidity Index score, and ocular comorbidities were included as covariates. Cox regression models were used to assess the association between glaucoma surgery and mortality. The incidence of all-cause mortality was 34.76/1,000 person-years and 27.88/1,000 person-years in the glaucoma surgery and diagnosis groups, respectively. The adjusted hazard ratio (HR) for all-cause mortality associated with glaucoma surgery was 1.31 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.05–1.62, P = 0.014). The adjusted HR for mortality due to a neurologic cause was significant (HR = 2.66, 95% CI 1.18–6.00, P = 0.018). The adjusted HRs for mortality due to cancer (HR = 2.03, 95% CI 1.07–3.83, P = 0.029) and accident or trauma (HR = 4.00, 95% CI 1.55–10.34, P = 0.004) associated with glaucoma surgery for ACG were significant as well. Glaucoma surgery was associated with an increase of mortality in elderly patients with glaucoma. In particular, the risk of mortality associated with glaucoma surgery due to neurologic causes was significant.

Abstract
Purpose To investigate the relationship between pulse wave velocity (PWV) and retinal vessel density (VD) measured by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in patients with normal-tension glaucoma (NTG). Methods This retrospective study included 103 patients with NTG and 109 healthy controls who underwent glaucoma examination and PWV measurements. Each group was classified into two subgroups according to a brachial-ankle PWV of 1400 cm/s. NTG was diagnosed when the maximum untreated intraocular pressure was < 21 mmHg on three repeated measurements obtained at different times in the presence of glaucomatous optic discs (neuroretinal rim thinning and excavation), peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer defects, and glaucomatous visual field defects. Healthy controls did not have glaucomatous optic discs or visual field defects and exhibited normal retinal nerve fiber layer thickness. The interval between glaucoma examination and PWV measurements did not exceed six months. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify factors associated with high PWV. Results PWV was higher in the NTG group than in the control group, while peripapillary VD and macular VD (mVD) were lower (all P < 0.05). Stepwise logistic regression analysis revealed that high PWV was significantly associated with age, mean arterial pressure (MAP), and mVD in the NTG group. Meanwhile, high PWV was significantly associated with age, MAP, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in healthy controls. Conclusions High PWV is associated with decreased mVD in NTG patients, suggesting that systemic arterial stiffness might be involved in the pathogenesis of NTG.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to compare the clinical characteristics of patients who showed structural progression in the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) first against those who showed progression in the macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) first and to investigate clinical parameters that help determine whether a patient exhibits RNFL or GCIPL damage first. METHODS A retrospective review of medical records of patients diagnosed with early-stage normal-tension glaucoma was performed. All eyes underwent intraocular pressure measurement with Goldmann applanation tonometer, standard automated perimetry, and Cirrus optical coherence tomography at 6-month intervals. Structural progression was determined using the Guided Progression Analysis software. Blood pressure was measured at each visit. RESULTS Forty-one eyes of 41 patients (mean age, 52.6 ± 16.7 years) were included in the study. In 21 eyes, structural progression was first detected in the RNFL at 54.2 ± 14.8 months, while structural progression was first observed at the macular GCIPL at 40.5 ± 11.0 months in 20 eyes. The mean intraocular pressure following treatment was 13.1 ± 1.8 mmHg for the RNFL progression first group and 13.4 ± 1.8 mmHg for the GCIPL progression first group (p = 0.514). The GCIPL progression first group was older (p = 0.008) and had thinner RNFL at baseline (p = 0.001). The logistic regression analyses indicated that both age and follow-up duration until first progression predicted the region of structural progression (odds ratio, 1.051; 95% confidence interval, 1.001-1.105; p = 0.046 for age; odds ratio, 0.912; 95% confidence interval, 0.840-0.991; p = 0.029 for time until progression). CONCLUSIONS Age of glaucoma patients and time until progression are associated with the region of the first structural progression in normal-tension glaucoma. Further studies exploring the association between glaucomatous progression and the location of damage are needed.

Abstract
PURPOSE To categorize the structural progression pattern of glaucoma, as detected by optical coherence tomography guided progression analysis, with respect to the peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL). METHODS One hundred sixty-four eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma were studied. The structural progression pattern evaluated by optical coherence tomography guided progression analysis was classified using hierarchical cluster analysis. The clinical parameters, patterns of structural progression, and visual field (VF) changes were compared among the groups. RESULTS Three groups were included: stable, progressive peripapillary RNFL thinning without macular GCIPL involvement, and progressive thinning of both the peripapillary RNFL and macular GCIPL. The third group, those with progressive peripapillary RNFL and macular GCIPL thinning, showed more progressive peripapillary RNFL thinning in the inferotemporal area and VF progression in the parafoveal area. Conversely, the 12 and 6 o'clock areas were the most common locations of progressive peripapillary RNFL thinning in the group without macular GCIPL involvement. CONCLUSIONS Structural progression patterns of glaucoma can be categorized into three groups. The location of progressive peripapillary RNFL thinning is associated with progressive macular GCIPL thinning and pattern of VF changes in the affected area. Our results indicate that the use of only macular GCIPL analysis is inadequate for analyzing the structural progression of glaucoma.

Abstract
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL), also known as Batten disease, is an incurable childhood brain disease. The thirteen forms of NCL are caused by mutations in thirteen CLN genes. Mutations in one CLN gene, CLN5, cause variant late-infantile NCL, with an age of onset between 4 and 7 years. The CLN5 protein is ubiquitously expressed in the majority of tissues studied and in the brain, CLN5 shows both neuronal and glial cell expression. Mutations in CLN5 are associated with the accumulation of autofluorescent storage material in lysosomes, the recycling units of the cell, in the brain and peripheral tissues. CLN5 resides in the lysosome and its function is still elusive. Initial studies suggested CLN5 was a transmembrane protein, which was later revealed to be processed into a soluble form. Multiple glycosylation sites have been reported, which may dictate its localisation and function. CLN5 interacts with several CLN proteins, and other lysosomal proteins, making it an important candidate to understand lysosomal biology. The existing knowledge on CLN5 biology stems from studies using several model organisms, including mice, sheep, cattle, dogs, social amoeba and cell cultures. Each model organism has its advantages and limitations, making it crucial to adopt a combinatorial approach, using both human cells and model organisms, to understand CLN5 pathologies and design drug therapies. In this comprehensive review, we have summarised and critiqued existing literature on CLN5 and have discussed the missing pieces of the puzzle that need to be addressed to develop an efficient therapy for CLN5 Batten disease.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effect of hypoxic preconditioning (HPC) on primary retinal ganglion cell (RGC) survival and the associated mechanism, including the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Retinas were separated from the enucleated eyeballs of Sprague-Dawley rats on postnatal days 1-4. RGCs were harvested using an immunopanning-magnetic separation system and maintained for 24 h in a defined medium. Hypoxic damage (0.3% O2) was inflicted on the cells using a CO₂ chamber. Anti-VEGF antibody (bevacizumab) was administered to RGCs exposed to hypoxic conditions, and RGC survival rate was compared to that of non-anti-VEGF antibody-treated RGCs. HPC lasting 4 h significantly increased RGC survival rate. In the RGCs exposed to hypoxic conditions for 4 h, VEGF mRNA and protein levels were significantly increased. Treatment with high dose bevacizumab (>1 mg/mL) countered HPC-mediated RGC survival. Protein kinase B and focal adhesion kinase levels were significantly increased in 4-h hypoxia-treated RGCs. HPC showed beneficial effects on primary RGC survival. However, only specifically controlled exposure to hypoxic conditions rendered neuroprotective effects. Strong inhibition of VEGF inhibited HPC-mediated RGC survival. These results indicate that VEGF may play an essential role in promoting cell survival under hypoxic conditions.

Abstract
Disjunct species in the same genus are a common feature of the flora in the temperate forests of East Asia and eastern North America. This study aimed to evaluate whether the kind of seed dormancy was maintained after species in the genus Asarum (Aristolochiaceae) were separated from their common ancestor. We classified the seed dormancy of Asarum sieboldii, an East Asian species, based on a phenology study and experiments in controlled temperature conditions, and then compared it to that of the previously studied A. canadense, an eastern North American species. The underdeveloped embryo of A. sieboldii grew and germinated (radicle emergence) in autumn but shoot emergence did not occur until the following spring. The seeds of A. sieboldii had deep simple epicotyl morphophysiological dormancy because the seeds with emerged radicle required a relatively long period of cold stratification to break epicotyl dormancy and produce a shoot. Although the seed of A. sieboldii had weaker radicle dormancy and stronger epicotyl dormancy compared to A. canadense, the kind of seed dormancy was the same for the two species. The trait of seed dormancy was inherited from a shared common ancestor and maintained in populations well after the two species (or their ancestors) separated. However, quantitative differences in temperature requirements for radicle and shoot emergence suggest the possibility of adaptation to the environment.

Abstract
van der Waals (vdW) magnetic materials provide an ideal platform to study low-dimensional magnetism. However, observations of magnetic characteristics of these layered materials truly distinguishing them from conventional magnetic thin film systems have been mostly lacking. In an effort to investigate magnetic properties unique to vdW magnetic materials, we examine the exchange bias effect, a magnetic phenomenon emerging at the ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic interface. Exchange bias is observed in the naturally oxidized vdW ferromagnet Fe3GeTe2, owing to an antiferromagnetic ordering in the surface oxide layer. Interestingly, the magnitude and thickness dependence of the effect is unlike those expected in typical thin-film systems. We propose a possible mechanism for this behavior, based on the weak interlayer magnetic coupling inherent to vdW magnets, demonstrating the distinct properties of these materials. Furthermore, the robust and sizable exchange bias for vdW magnets persisting up to relatively high temperatures presents a significant advance for realizing practical two-dimensional spintronics.

Abstract
In this study, a self-sorting sensor was developed with the ability to distinguish between different pressure regimes and translate the pressure to electrical signals. Specifically, the self-sorting sensor can distinguish between soft and hard pressure like the human skin, without any software assistance and complicated circuits. To achieve the self-sorting property, Janus-like jagged structures were prepared via an all-solution process of spontaneous chemical patterning; they comprised electrically semi-insulating vertices and highly conductive valleys. This unique structure facilitates the detection and determination of the intensities and types of pressure by providing a significant gap between the current levels of two types of states, similar to the function of fibers in the human tactile system. The fabricated sensors also exhibit high sensitivity and durability as well as low power consumption, as demonstrated by the electronic skin and ternary Morse signal applications. Compared with conventional wearable pressure sensors, this sensor can detect signals without additional programming; thus, it is highly suitable for delay-sensitive, energy-efficient sensor applications such as driverless vehicles, autonomous artificial intelligence technology, and prosthetic devices.

Associations between Chewing Difficulty, Subjective Cognitive Decline, and Related Functional Difficulties among Older People without Dementia: Focus on Body Mass Index. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine whether chewing difficulty is associated with subjective cognitive decline (SCD) and related functional difficulties by body mass index. DESIGN A population-based cross-sectional study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS A nationwide sample of 54,004 individuals aged ≥65 years from the 2018 Korea Community Health Survey. MEASUREMENTS SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties were measured using the cognitive decline module of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. Chewing difficulty was assessed based on a self-report questionnaire from an oral health-related behaviors interview survey. BMI was calculated from objective values by measuring height and weight through a physical meter. RESULTS Among the 54,004 individuals, the prevalence of SCD in underweight, overweight, and obesity group was 33.6% (n = 806), 30.3% (n = 9,691), and 28.7% (n=5,632) respectively. Chewing difficulty was associated with SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties. This association was more pronounced in underweight (BMI: <18.5 kg/m2) people [underweight: (odds ratio [OR] = 1.68, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.48-1.92); normal weight: OR = 1.13, 95% CI 1.04-1.22; obese: OR = 1.15, 95% CI 1.05-1.27]. Similar trends were demonstrated for SCD-related functional difficulties (underweight: OR = 1.53, 95% CI 1.17-2.01; normal weight: OR = 1.36, 95% CI 1.15-1.63; obese: OR = 1.50, 95% CI 1.22-1.86). CONCLUSIONS Chewing difficulty was associated with SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties in older people. Our results suggest that underweight status may play roles in the associations between chewing difficulty and SCD and SCD-related functional difficulties.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The prevalence of anemia and its impact on frailty and physical function amongst the multiethnic older populations in the Southeast Asian (SEA) countries are often not well studied. Singapore, a nation comprised of multiethnic communities, is one of the most rapidly aging population globally. We aim to evaluate the prevalence of anemia and its impact on frailty, and physical function in Healthy Older People Everyday (HOPE)- an epidemiologic population-based study on community-dwelling older adults in Singapore. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Community. PARTICIPANTS 480 adults ≥ 65 years old. MEASUREMENTS Data were collected from interviewers-administered questionnaires on socio-demographics, FRAIL scale, Mini-Mental State Examination, EQ-5D, Barthel Index, and Lawton index. Hemoglobin concentration and physical assessments, including anthropometry, grip strength, timed up-and-go (TUG) were measured. RESULTS The overall prevalence of anemia was 15.2% (73 out of 480). The Indian ethnic group had the highest prevalence of anemia (32%, OR=3.02; 95%CI= 1.23-7.41) with the lowest hemoglobin concentration compared to the overall population (13.0±1.3g/L and 13.5±1.4g/L, p=0.02). Hemoglobin levels and anemia were significantly associated with frailty (OR=2.28; 95% CI=1.02-5.10), low grip strength (OR=1.79; 95% CI=1.01-3.03), ≥ one IADL impairment (OR=2.35; 95% CI=1.39-3.97). Each 1 g/dL increase in hemoglobin was associated with a 6% decrease in frailty odds after adjusting for potential covariates (OR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.90-0.99). There was a significant difference in the mean TUG between the non-anemic (11.0±3.4 seconds) and anemic (12.3±6.0 seconds, p=0.01) counterparts, but no difference in the number of falls. CONCLUSION In our multiethnic Asian population, anemia was adversely associated with frailty, decreased muscle strength, and IADL impairment. Health policies on anemia screening should be employed to avoid or potentially delay or reverse these adverse outcomes associated with anemia. Recognition, evaluation, and treatment of anemia amongst this vulnerable population is warranted.

Abstract
In this study, multifunctional light-emitting and passive radiative cooling (LEPC) materials and devices are designed by embedding chemically designed perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) into the radiative polymer layer. Lead halide perovskite NCs are chosen as the light-emitting material, owing to their high photon radiation rate and low phonon generation. To integrate the perovskite NCs into the radiative polymer layers, a surface passivation is achieved by coating the NCs with silica. The silica shell synergistically improves the chemical stability and cooling efficiency. Both outdoor experimental and simulation results demonstrate that the fabricated LEPC devices show better cooling performance than conventional cooling devices. The LEPC devices are easily patterned by utilizing pixelating, assembling, and simple cutting or drawing techniques with the LEPC materials. This study also demonstrates the potential applications of these materials as components of smart building systems, in smart window displays, or for anticounterfeiting cooling systems, thus proving the practicality of these multifunctional LEPC devices.

Abstract
Purpose: The pattern electroretinogram (PERG) is useful to detect retinal ganglion cell (RGC) damage in patients with glaucoma. Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) measures retinal vessel density (VD), which is known to be reduced in glaucoma. There may be correlations between parameters of the PERG and OCTA in open-angle glaucoma (OAG). Methods: In total, 95 eyes of 95 OAG patients and 102 eyes of 102 normal controls were included in this study. N35, P50, and N95 latency along with P50 and N95 amplitude were obtained using the PERG. Retinal VD was measured around the peripapillary and macular area according to the ETDRS grid (concentric circles with diameters of 1, 3, and 6 mm), which is named a center (≤1 mm), an inner (1–3 mm), an outer (3–6 mm), and a full (≤6 mm) area. Pearson correlation analysis was done between parameters, and partial correlation analysis was done after adjusting confounding factors. Results: P50 amplitude, N95 amplitude, and VD of most measured areas were significantly lower in the OAG group compared to the normal group. N95 amplitude showed a statistically significant correlation with parameters of optical coherence tomography and visual field, peripapillary outer and full VD, and macular outer and full VD even after adjusting confounding factors. There was no significant correlation between parameters in the normal group. Conclusions: N95 amplitude was associated with structural and functional change including VD reduction in OAG. Microvascular alterations may be associated with dysfunctional changes of RGC recorded by the PERG in OAG.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of image quality fluctuations on the repeatability of thickness measurements of the peripapillary retinal nerve fibre (PP-RNFL) and ganglion cell-inner plexiform (GC-IPL) layers using swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT). Three consecutive OCT scans each were performed on 56 healthy subject. Finally, 168 SS-OCT results were analysed. Based on the tertile values of the mean absolute difference of image quality score, all subjects were divided into the following three groups—low-(LIQD), moderate-(MIQD), and high-(HIQD) image quality score difference groups. A linear mixed model and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were used for analyses. Despite high ICC values (> 0.9), several sectors showed significant differences in the ICC values in intergroup comparisons. For LIQD-HIQD and MIQD-HIQD, most PP-RNFL sectors showed significant differences. For GC-IPL sectors, the LIQD-HIQD comparison showed significant differences in the temporosuperior (p = 0.012), inferior (p < .001), and temporoinferior (p = 0.042) sectors. Significant differences existed in the average GC-IPL (p = 0.009), nasoinferior (p = 0.035), and inferior GC-IPL sectors (p < .001) for MIQD-HIQD comparison. With higher image quality fluctuations, the repeatability of SS-OCT decreased in several sectors, which are considered clinically relevant in evaluating glaucoma status. Therefore, maintaining high-quality image status is essential to enhance the reliability of SS-OCT.

Abstract
Tubulin-based nanotubes (TNTs) to deliver microtubule-targeting agents (MTAs) for clinical oncology are reported. Three MTAs, docetaxel (DTX), laulimalide (LMD), and monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE), which attach to different binding sites in a tubulin, are loaded onto TNTs and cause structural changes in them, including shape anisotropy and tubulin layering. This drug-driven carrier transformation leads to changes in the drug-loading efficiency and stability characteristics of the carrier. TNTs coloaded with DTX and LMD efficiently deliver dual drug cargoes to cellular tubulins by the endolysosomal pathway, and results in synergistic anticancer and antiangiogenic action of the drugs in vitro. In in vivo tests, TNTs loaded with a microtubule-destabilizing agent MMAE suppress the growth of tumors with much higher efficacy than free MMAE did. This work suggests a new concept of using a drug's target protein as a carrier. The findings demonstrate that the TNTs developed here can be used universally as a delivery platform for many MTAs.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate factors associated with macular vessel density and to analyze their effects according to glaucoma stage. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cross-sectional study. METHODS A total of 72 healthy eyes and 147 open-angle glaucomatous eyes were studied. All eyes underwent optical coherence tomography and visual field examinations. Clinical variables were compared according to the glaucoma stage. Relationships between macular vessel density (mVD) and other variables were analyzed using linear regression and segmented analyses. RESULTS Age (P = 0.010) and signal strength (P < 0.001) were associated with macular vessel density in healthy eyes. In glaucomatous eyes, age, signal strength, ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thickness, and mean deviation (MD) correlated with macular vessel density (all P ≤ 0.005). When analyzed by glaucoma stage, age correlated with macular vessel density in early (P = 0.017 and all P ≤ 0.012, respectively) and moderate (P = 0.002 and all P ≤ 0.001, respectively) glaucoma. Conversely, GCIPL thickness was associated with macular vessel density (P = 0.004). According to segmented analysis between MD and mVD, the MD value at the change point for mVD was -17.92 dB, which was much lower than that for GCIPL thickness (-5.83 dB). CONCLUSION Signal strength was the most significant factor associated with macular vessel density in healthy and glaucomatous eyes. Other than signal strength, factors associated with macular vessel density of glaucomatous eyes vary according to the glaucoma stage. The segmented analysis suggests that mVD could be better than GCIPL thickness in predicting MD changes in moderate-to-advanced glaucoma.

Abstract
Post-synthesis engineering methods that employ oriented attachment to precisely control the size and dimensionality (0D/1D/2D) of as-synthesized CsPbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) are demonstrated. We investigated the chemical effects of the properties of polar solvents, including their immiscibility, polarity, and boiling point, on the surfaces of NCs, as well as their effect on the structural and optical properties of NCs. Appropriate exploitation of the solvent properties made it possible to use a polar solvent to mildly affect the NCs indirectly such that they discarded their ligands and became attached to proximal NCs without being destroyed. Based on our observations, we developed a method whereby a solution of the NCs in a non-polar solvent is mixed with a polar solvent to form an immiscible phase to induce epitaxial growth of CsPbBr3 NCs. The method enables the size of NCs to be easily regulated from 5 to 50 nm by controlling the engineering time. Taking advantage of the minimal effect of a mild solvent, we also developed a self-assembly method that operates at the liquid-air interface to systematically control the dimensionality. At this interface, the NCs self-assemble in the horizontal direction and grow into micron-sized, single-crystalline, defect-free nanowires (1D) and nanoplates (2D) via oriented attachment. Finally, we discuss the origin of the non-destructive oriented attachment phenomenon and the surface chemistry of a perovskite NC using density functional theory (DFT) simulations and a proposed model system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was first reported in Wuhan in December 2019 and has rapidly spread across different cities within and outside China. Hong Kong started to prepare for COVID-19 on 31st December 2019 and infection control measures in public hospitals were tightened to limit nosocomial transmission within healthcare facilities. However, the recommendations on the transmission-based precautions required for COVID-19 in hospital settings vary from droplet and contact precautions, to contact and airborne precautions with placement of patients in airborne infection isolation rooms. AIM To describe an outbreak investigation of a patient with COVID-19 who was nursed in an open cubicle of a general ward before the diagnosis was made. METHOD Contacts were identified and risk categorized as 'close' or 'casual' for decisions on quarantine and/or medical surveillance. Respiratory specimens were collected from contacts who developed fever, and/or respiratory symptoms during the surveillance period and were tested for SARS-CoV-2. FINDINGS A total of 71 staff and 49 patients were identified from contact tracing, seven staff and 10 patients fulfilled the criteria of 'close contact'. At the end of 28-day surveillance, 76 tests were performed on 52 contacts and all were negative, including all patient close contacts and six of the seven staff close contacts. The remaining contacts were asymptomatic throughout the surveillance period. CONCLUSION Our findings suggest that SARS-CoV-2 is not spread by an airborne route, and nosocomial transmissions can be prevented through vigilant basic infection control measures, including wearing of surgical masks, hand and environmental hygiene.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aortoiliac calcification may be a surrogate marker of decreased visceral perfusion causing anastomotic leak (AL). The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive role of aortoiliac calcification for AL after rectal cancer surgery. METHODS We enrolled patients with primary rectal cancer who had restorative resection at our institution between January 2013 and December 2015. An aortoiliac calcification score was calculated as the sum of calcification scores at the infrarenal aorta (0: no, 1: ≤ 3 cm, 2: > 3 cm) and the common iliac arteries (0: no, 1: unilateral, 2: bilateral). AL was classified into three grades: grade A, requiring no intervention; grade B, requiring therapeutic intervention without re-laparotomy; and grade C, requiring re-laparotomy. Clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed to identify risk factors for AL. RESULTS There were 583 patients. Three-hundred forty-five (59.2%) had an aortoiliac calcification score ≥ 3, and 37 (6.3%) patients experienced AL, in 30 cases (5.1%) grade C AL. Patients with an aortoiliac calcification score ≥ 3 had a higher incidence of grade C AL (6.7% vs. 2.9%, p = 0.045). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that an aortoiliac calcification score ≥ 3 was an independent risk factor for grade C AL (odds ratio = 2.669, 95% confidence interval 1.066-6.686, p = 0.036). CONCLUSIONS Aortoiliac calcification may be considered a risk factor for grade C AL after rectal cancer surgery.

Abstract
Stacking fault energies (SFE) were determined in additively manufactured (AM) stainless steel (SS 316 L) and equiatomic CrCoNi medium-entropy alloys. AM specimens were fabricated via directed energy deposition and tensile loaded at room temperature. In situ neutron diffraction was performed to obtain a number of faulting-embedded diffraction peaks simultaneously from a set of (hkl) grains during deformation. The peak profiles diffracted from imperfect crystal structures were analyzed to correlate stacking fault probabilities and mean-square lattice strains to the SFE. The result shows that averaged SFEs are 32.8 mJ/m2 for the AM SS 316 L and 15.1 mJ/m2 for the AM CrCoNi alloys. Meanwhile, during deformation, the SFE varies from 46 to 21 mJ/m2 (AM SS 316 L) and 24 to 11 mJ/m2 (AM CrCoNi) from initial to stabilized stages, respectively. The transient SFEs are attributed to the deformation activity changes from dislocation slip to twinning as straining. The twinning deformation substructure and atomic stacking faults were confirmed by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The significant variance of the SFE suggests the critical twinning stress as 830 ± 25 MPa for the AM SS 316 L and 790 ± 40 MPa for AM CrCoNi, respectively.

Background
Fabry disease (FD) is X-linked genetic disorder caused by the deficiency or absent activity of lysosomal α- galactosidase. When the heart is involved, progressive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is the key feature. Although, LVH is not present in all subjects, some of them progress with LVH despite enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). The present study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of patient of FD without overt LVH, but progresses with their left ventricular mass index (LVMI).
Method : This study includes subjects carrying genetic mutations for FD without LVH (n = 12) in a single tertiary center. ‘Decreasing LVMI group (Group1)’ was defined when pre-ERT LVMI minus last LVMI value obtained by echocardiography was positive, and when negative, defined as ‘Increasing LVMI group (Group 2)’. The baseline characteristics and echocardiographic parameters including global strain was analyzed.
Result : Total 6 patients were classified as Group 1 and 2 each. The median age at diagnosis for male was 21 vs 27 for each group, and 21 vs 31 for female. The median follow-up duration was 4.0 vs 5.7 yr. The antibody formation for replaced enzyme was 3 for Group 2 and any family member who developed overt LVH was much 1 vs 3 for group 1 vs 2. Initial 3 plane GLS was worse and showed trend to drop in Group 2.
Conclusion : In the Fabry patients get worse with their LVMI but still not developed overt LVH despite enzyme replacement therapy, there are some clinical and echo-parameter difference. These findings could suggest insufficient enzyme replacement therapy.
