Use of serum KL-6 and chest radiographic severity grade to predict 28-day mortality in COVID-19 patients with pneumonia: a retrospective cohort study. BMC Pulm Med 2024; 24:187. Abstract
BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a global social and economic impact. An easy assessment procedure to handily identify the mortality risk of inpatients is urgently needed in clinical practice. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a simple nomogram model to categorize patients who might have a poor short-term outcome. METHODS A retrospective cohort study of 189 COVID-19 patients was performed at Shanghai Ren Ji Hospital from December 12, 2022 to February 28, 2023. Chest radiography and biomarkers, including KL-6 were assessed. Risk factors of 28-day mortality were selected by a Cox regression model. A nomogram was developed based on selected variables by SMOTE strategy. The predictive performance of the derived nomogram was evaluated by calibration curve. RESULTS In total, 173 patients were enrolled in this study. The 28-day mortality event occurred in 41 inpatients (23.7%). Serum KL-6 and radiological severity grade (RSG) were selected as the final risk factors. A nomogram model was developed based on KL-6 and RSG. The calibration curve suggested that the nomogram model might have potential clinical value. The AUCs for serum KL-6, RSG, and the combined score in the development group and validation group were 0.885 (95% CI: 0.804-0.952), 0.818 (95% CI: 0.711-0.899), 0.868 (95% CI: 0.776-0.942) and 0.932 (95% CI: 0.862-0.997), respectively. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggested that the nomogram based on KL-6 and RSG might be a potential method for evaluating 28-day mortality in COVID-19 patients. A high combined score might indicate a poor outcome in COVID-19 patients with pneumonia.

Abstract
The electrochemical upcycling of nitrate (NO3-) to ammonia (NH3) holds promise for synergizing both wastewater treatment and NH3 synthesis. Efficient stripping of gaseous products (NH3, H2, and N2) from electrocatalysts is crucial for continuous and stable electrochemical reactions. This study evaluated a layered electrocatalyst structure using copper (Cu) dendrites to enable a high curvature and hydrophobicity and achieve a stratified liquid contact at the gas-liquid interface of the electrocatalyst layer. As such, gaseous product desorption or displacement from electrocatalysts was enhanced due to the separation of a wetted reaction zone and a nonwetted zone for gas transfer. Consequently, this electrocatalyst structure yielded a 2.9-fold boost in per-active-site activity compared with that with a low curvature and high hydrophilic counterpart. Moreover, a NH3 Faradaic efficiency of 90.9 ± 2.3% was achieved with nearly 100% NO3- conversion. This high-curvature hydrophobic Cu dendrite was further integrated with a gas-extraction membrane, which demonstrated a comparable NH3 yield from the real reverse osmosis retentate brine.

Abstract
Curcuma longa, best known for its culinary application as the main constituent of curry powder, has shown potential impact on the reproductive system. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of Curcuma longa extract (CLE) on Kidney-Yang deficiency mice induced by hydrocortisone and the possible roles in testosterone secretion in Leydig cells. We evaluated male sexual behaviour, reproductive organ weight, testosterone levels, and histological tissue changes in hydrocortisone-induced mice. CLE effectively reversed hydrocortisone-induced Kidney-Yang deficiency syndrome by improving sexual behaviour, testis and epididymis weight, testosterone levels and reducing pathological damage. Our in vitro study further indicated that CLE stimulated testosterone production via upregulating the mRNA and protein expression of steroidogenic enzymes in Leydig cells. It significantly improved H89-inhibited protein expression of StAR and cAMP-response element-binding (CREB), as well as melatonin-suppressed StAR protein expression. The data obtained from this study suggest that CLE could alleviate Kidney-Yang deficiency symptoms and stimulate testosterone production by upregulating the steroidogenic pathway. This research identifies CLE as a potential nutraceutical option for addressing testosterone deficiency diseases.

Abstract
Detecting a community in a network is a matter of discerning the distinct features and connections of a group of members that are different from those in other communities. The ability to do this is of great significance in network analysis. However, beyond the classic spectral clustering and statistical inference methods, there have been significant developments with deep learning techniques for community detection in recent years-particularly when it comes to handling high-dimensional network data. Hence, a comprehensive review of the latest progress in community detection through deep learning is timely. To frame the survey, we have devised a new taxonomy covering different state-of-the-art methods, including deep learning models based on deep neural networks (DNNs), deep nonnegative matrix factorization, and deep sparse filtering. The main category, i.e., DNNs, is further divided into convolutional networks, graph attention networks, generative adversarial networks, and autoencoders. The popular benchmark datasets, evaluation metrics, and open-source implementations to address experimentation settings are also summarized. This is followed by a discussion on the practical applications of community detection in various domains. The survey concludes with suggestions of challenging topics that would make for fruitful future research directions in this fast-growing deep learning field.

Quantifying the accuracy of inter-beat intervals acquired from consumer-grade photoplethysmography wristbands using an electrocardiogram-aided information-based similarity approach. Abstract
Objective. Although inter-beat intervals (IBI) and the derived heart rate variability (HRV) can be acquired through consumer-grade photoplethysmography (PPG) wristbands and have been applied in a variety of physiological and psychophysiological conditions, their accuracy is still unsatisfactory.Approach.In this study, 30 healthy participants concurrently wore two wristbands (E4 and Honor 5) and a gold-standard electrocardiogram (ECG) device under four conditions: resting, deep breathing with a frequency of 0.17 Hz and 0.1 Hz, and mental stress tasks. To quantitatively validate the accuracy of IBI acquired from PPG wristbands, this study proposed to apply an information-based similarity (IBS) approach to quantify the pattern similarity of the underlying dynamical temporal structures embedded in IBI time series simultaneously recorded using PPG wristbands and the ECG system. The occurrence frequency of basic patterns and their rankings were analyzed to calculate the IBS distance from gold-standard IBI, and to further calculate the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the wristband IBI time series.Main results.The accuracies of both HRV and mental state classification were not satisfactory due to the low SNR in the wristband IBI. However, by rejecting data segments of SNR < 25, the Pearson correlation coefficients between the wristbands' HRV and the gold-standard HRV were increased from 0.542 ± 0.235 to 0.922 ± 0.120 for E4 and from 0.596 ± 0.227 to 0.859 ± 0.145 for Honor 5. The average accuracy of four-class mental state classification increased from 77.3% to 81.9% for E4 and from 79.3% to 83.3% for Honor 5.Significance.Consumer-grade PPG wristbands are acceptable for HR and HRV monitoring when removing low SNR segments. The proposed method can be applied for quantifying the accuracies of IBI and HRV indices acquired via any non-ECG system.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological features, classification, and genetic characteristics of common lymphatic malformation (CLM) in superficial soft tissue. Methods: A retrospective study of 110 patients with the diagnosis of CLM at the Henan Province People's Hospital, China from August 2019 to August 2022 was performed. The clinicopathological features, relevant immunohistochemical (IHC) staining results, and fluorescence quantitative PCR of PIK3CA mutation were analyzed, and patients were followed up. Results: Among the 110 CLM patients, there were 53 males and 57 females; 65 cases (65/110, 59.1%) were first detected when the patients were≤2 years old. The most common location was the head and neck in 41 cases (41/110, 37.3%). Clinically, 102 cases (102/110, 92.7%) were solitary, 83 cases (83/110, 75.5%) were skin-colored, 69 cases (69/110, 62.7%) had indistinct borders, and 10 cases (10/110, 9.1%) had diffuse and severe macroscopic manifestations. There were 52 macrocystic type (52/110, 47.3%), 23 microcystic type (23/110, 20.9%), and 35 combined type (35/110, 31.8%). The macrocystic CLM presented as soft, translucent masses with large cystic cavities on the cut surface, and histologically they were composed of large, irregularly dilated channels that were thicker with irregular smooth muscle and lymphocytic infiltration. Microcystic CLM showed wartlike projections or translucent blisters on the skin, with small honeycomb structures on the cut surface, and histologically consisted of round or angular dilated small lymphatic vessels with little or no smooth muscle. The combined CLM had both macrocystic and microcystic morphologies. IHC staining showed that the lymphatic endothelial cells were positive for LYVE-1, D2-40, PROX1, CD31, and VEGFR3 but negative for CD34; in the macrocystic and combined CLM vessel walls were positive for SMA. Eight of 13 CLM had PIK3CA mutation. All patients were followed up, and 24 (24/110, 21.8%) had relapses, which more frequently occurred in combined type, followed by microcystic type. Conclusions: CLM is a congenital vascular malformation composed of dilated, abnormal lymphatic channels, with PIK3CA mutation. There are significant differences in clinicopathological characteristics among the different types. Since microcystic and combined CLM are prone to recurrence, accurate pathological subtyping is necessary to guide treatment and to predict prognosis.

Non-linear associations of cardiometabolic index with insulin resistance, impaired fasting glucose, and type 2 diabetes among US adults: a cross-sectional study. Abstract
Background Cardiometabolic index (CMI) is a novel indicator for predicting the risk of obesity-related diseases. We aimed to determine the relationships of CMI with insulin resistance (IR), impaired fasting glucose (IFG), and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) using NHANES data from 1999 to 2020. Methods After CMI values were estimated, weighted univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to ascertain whether CMI was an independent risk indicator for IR, IFG, and T2DM. Furthermore, stratified analyses and interaction analyses were carried out to investigate the heterogeneity of correlations across various subgroups. Subsequently, restricted cubic splines (RCS) were used to examine nonlinear relationships. Results 21,304 US adults were enrolled in our study, of whom 5,326 (22.38%) had IR, 4,706 (20.17%) had IFG, and 3,724 (13.02%) had T2DM. In the studied population, a higher CMI index value was significantly associated with an elevated likelihood of IR, IFG, and T2DM. In the RCS regression model, the relationship between CMI and IR, IFG, and T2DM was identified as nonlinear. A nonlinear inverted U-shaped relationship was found between CMI and IFG, and an inverse L-shaped association was observed between CMI and IR, CMI and T2DM. The cut-off values of CMI were 1.35, 1.48, and 1.30 for IR, IFG, and T2DM, respectively. Conclusion Our results indicate that CMI was positively correlated with an increase in IR, IFG, and T2DM in the studied population. CMI may be a simple and effective surrogate indicator of IR, IFG, and T2DM.

[Well-differentiated/dedifferentiated liposarcoma associated with myxoid-like morphology: a clinicopathological and molecular genetic characteristics analysis of 34 cases]. Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological and molecular genetic characteristics of well-differentiated/dedifferentiated liposarcoma (WDLPS/DDLPS) with myxoid-like morphology, and to distinguish them from myxofibrosarcoma (MFS) with similar morphology. Methods: Twenty-nine cases of myxoid-like liposarcoma and 5 cases of MFS were collected from Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Zhengzhou, China and the First Medical Center of PLA General Hospital, Beijing, China from January 2015 to March 2023. Relevant markers were detected using immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). The literature was also reviewed. Results: There were 24 males and 10 females, with ages ranging from 41 to 73 years. The tumor sites included retroperitoneum (n=17), abdomen (n=9), lower limbs (n=5), scrotum (n=1), upper limb (n=1) and axilla (n=1). WDLPS was commonly seen as lipomatoid type (12 cases), while the dedifferentiated components of DDLPS included low-grade (13 cases) and high-grade (2 cases) morphology, with low-high grade myxofibrosarcoma, dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, and low-grade fibrosarcoma structures. Twenty-nine liposarcomas had various proportions of myxoid-like morphology, while 16 showed various degrees of tumor necrosis. The myxoid-like component showed myxoid pleomorphic liposarcoma (MLPS)-like morphology, lobulated growth, characteristic slender, ramified capillary network,"chicken claw-like"morphology, mucus-rich stroma and lung edema-like morphology. Tumor cells were spindle and oval, with many variable vacuolar lipoblasts. MDM2 gene amplification was detected using FISH and present in all tested cases (29/29). DDIT3 break-apart mutation was not detected, but its cluster amplification was present (24/29). Among the MFS cases, one showed cluster amplification (1/5), but no cases showed break-apart or amplification of MDM2 gene. Conclusions: WDLPS/DDLPS with myxoid-like morphology is most commonly seen in the retroperitoneum and abdominal cavity and mostly harbors DDIT3 break-apart probe amplification, while this amplification is not specific to liposarcoma. For core biopsy specimens or very rare tumors in the limbs, when histology has mucinous stroma and MLPS-like morphology, misdiagnosis of MLPS or other non-lipomatous neoplasms with myxoid morphology should be avoided.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to prepare a novel kind of flaxseed oil (FO)/beeswax oleogel system and apply it to improve the properties of sodium alginate films. Three single factors, namely the ratio of beeswax/FO, the addition of oleogel, and the addition of glycerol, were optimized based on the comprehensive score of film characteristics: elongation at break (EAB), tensile strength (TS), hydroxyl radical clearance (HRC), and water vapor permeability (WVP) of the film. When the ratio of beeswax/FO was 7.807%, the addition of oleogel was 4.829%, and the addition of glycerol was 31.088%, the comprehensive score of the film characteristics was maximum. Moreover, the Decapterus maruadsi preserved by the produced films were assessed for drip loss, pH, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS), and fatty acids composition. In comparison to the control, the produced films incorporated with linseed oil/beeswax oleogel had a longer shelf-life than Decapterus maruadsi. In conclusion, the oleogel system prepared via linseed oil/beeswax had good stability and hydrophobicity, which can significantly improve the characteristics of the film and extend the shelf-life of Decapterus maruadsi.

Abstract
Nanobubbles (NBs) in water have been proven to improve plant growth and seed germination, potentially reducing both water and fertilizer consumption. To unravel the promotion mechanism of NBs on plant growth, this study investigated the characteristics of NBs in tap water and their impacts on tomato's early growth, soil chemical properties, enzymatic activity and electrochemical properties of plant roots. Oxygen NBs (ONBs) were found to increase the seed germination by 10 % and plant growth by 30 %-50 % (e.g., stem and diameter), whereas nitrogen NBs (NNBs) only had a significant promotion (7 %-34 %) on plant height. Additionally, compared to control group, irrigation with ONBs increased the peroxidase activities by 500 %-1000 % in tomato leaves, which may increase the expression of genes for peroxidase and promote cell proliferation and plant growth. Moreover, electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) revealed that the ONBs could reduce the interfacial impedance due to the increased active surface area and electrical conductivity of root.

Abstract
Heavy metal contamination continues to be a persistent environmental problem. To address this issue, this study evaluated the impact of air nanobubbles (NBs) in water on the uptake of heavy metals by Alternanthera philoxeroides (A. philoxeroides), a common aquatic plant in China known for its rapid growth, strong vitality, and high capacity for heavy metal remediation. This study found that diluted air NBs (25% concentration) boosted cadmium uptake of A. philoxeroides by 17.39%. They also enhanced plant growth (25-50%) and photosynthetic pigments (10-20%) even at low cadmium levels (0.1 mM). Furthermore, the incorporation of 25% air NBs has been demonstrated to significantly amplify the performance of key antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase and catalase, alongside heightened levels of crucial antioxidants such as malondialdehyde. This heightened activity of antioxidant defenses offers a compelling explanation for the potential amelioration of cadmium toxicity and concurrent enhancements in overall plant growth rates. Notably, a comprehensive analysis utilizing the excitation emission matrix-parallel factor analysis (EEM-PARAFAC) technique has revealed alterations in the composition of rhizosphere dissolved organic matter due to the presence of NBs. This ncomposition change of the rhizosphere dissolved organic mattermposition has subsequently exerted an influence on plant complexation processes and the subsequent uptake of cadmium. This study demonstrates that the strategic implementation of air NBs in water systems holds the potential to significantly enhance the plant's ability to detoxify cadmium and improve the uptake of heavy metals during phytoremediation processes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common neurosurgical complication after brain tumor resection, and its prophylaxis has been widely studied. There are no effective drugs in the clinical management of venous thromboembolism, and there is an absence of evidence-based medicine concerning the treatment of severe multiple traumas.
AIM To explore whether ulinastatin (UTI) can prevent VTE after brain tumor resection.
METHODS The present research included patients who underwent brain tumor resection. Patients received UTIs (400,000 IU) or placebos utilizing computer-based random sequencing (in a 1:1 ratio). The primary outcome measures were the incidence of VTE, coagulation function, pulmonary emboli, liver function, renal function, and drug-related adverse effects.
RESULTS A total of 405 patients were evaluated between January 2019 and December 2021, and 361 of these were initially enrolled in the study to form intention-to-treat, which was given UTI (n = 180) or placebo (n = 181) treatment in a random manner. There were no statistically significant differences in baseline clinical data between the two groups. The incidence of VTE in the UTI group was remarkably improved compared with that in the placebo group. UTI can improve coagulation dysfunction, pulmonary emboli, liver function, and renal function. No significant difference was identified between the two groups in the side effects of UTI-induced diarrhea, vomiting, hospital stays, or hospitalization costs. The incidence of allergies was higher in the UTI group than in the placebo group.
CONCLUSION The findings from the present research indicated that UTI can decrease the incidence of VTE and clinical outcomes of patients after brain tumor resection and has fewer adverse reactions.

Abstract
The salt [K(18-crown-6)]2[Ru(CN)2(CO)3] ([K(18-crown-6)]2[1]) was generated by the reaction of Ru(C2H4)(CO)4 with [K(18-crown-6)]CN. An initial thermal reaction gives [Ru(CN)(CO)4]-, which, upon ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, reacts with a second equiv of CN-. Protonation of [1]2- gave [HRu(CN)2(CO)3]- ([H1]-), which was isolated as a single isomer with mutually trans cyanide ligands. The complex cis,cis,cis-[Ru(pdt)(CN)2(CO)2]2- ([2]2-) was prepared by the UV-induced reaction of [1]2- with propanedithiol (pdtH2). The corresponding iron complex cis,cis,cis-[Fe(pdt)(CN)2(CO)2]2- ([3]2-) was prepared similarly. The pdt complexes [2]2- and [3]2- were treated with Fe(benzylideneacetone)(CO)3 to give, respectively, [RuFe (μ-pdt)(CN)2(CO)4]2- ([5]2-) and [Fe2(μ-pdt)(CN)2(CO)4]2- ([4]2-). The pathway from [3]2- to Fe2 complex [4]2- implicates intermetallic migration of CN-. In contrast, the formation of [5]2- leaves the Ru(CN)2(CO) center intact, as confirmed by X-ray crystallography. The structure of [5]2- features a "rotated" square-pyramidal Fe(CO)2(μ-CO) site. NMR measurements indicate that the octahedral Ru site is stereochemically rigid, whereas the Fe site dynamically undergoes turnstile rotation. 57Fe Mössbauer spectral parameters are very similar for rotated [5]2- and unrotated Fe2 complex [4]2-, indicating the insensitivity of that technique to both the geometry and the oxidation state of the Fe site. According to cyclic voltammetry, [5]2- oxidizes at E1/2 ∼ -0.8 V vs Fc+/0. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements show that 1e- oxidation of [5]2- gives an S = 1/2 rhombic species, consistent with the formulation Ru(II)Fe(I), related to the Hox state of the [FeFe] hydrogenases. Density functional theory (DFT) studies reproduce the structure, 1H NMR shifts, and infrared (IR) spectra observed for [5]2-. Related homometallic complexes with both cyanides on a single metal are predicted to not adopt rotated structures. These data suggest that [5]2- is best described as Ru(II)Fe(0). This conclusion raises the possibility that for some reduced states of the [FeFe]-hydrogenases, the [2Fe]H site may be better described as Fe(II)Fe(0) than Fe(I)Fe(I).

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinicopathological features of glomuvenous malformation (GVM). Methods: Thirty-one cases of GVM diagnosed at the Henan Provincial People's Hospital from January 2011 to December 2021 were collected. Their clinical and pathological features were analyzed. The expression of relevant markers was examined using immunohistochemistry. The patients were also followed up. Results: There were 16 males and 15 females in this study, with an average age of 11 years (range, 1-52 years). The locations of the disease included 13 cases in the limbs (8 cases in the upper limbs, 5 cases in the lower limbs), 9 cases in the trunks, and 9 cases in the foot (toes or subungual area). Twenty-seven of the cases were solitary and 4 were multifocal. The lesions were characterized by blue-purple papules or plaques on the skin surface, which grew slowly. The lumps became larger and appeared to be conspicuous. Microscopically, GVM mainly involved the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, with an overall ill-defined border. There were scattered or clustered irregular dilated vein-like lumens, with thin walls and various sizes. A single or multiple layers of relatively uniform cubic/glomus cells were present at the abnormal wall, with scattered small nests of the glomus cells. The endothelial cells in the wall of abnormal lumen were flat or absent. Immunohistochemistry showed that glomus cells strongly expressed SMA, h-caldesmon, and collagen IV. Malformed vascular endothelial cells expressed CD31, CD34 and ERG. No postoperative recurrence was found in the 12 cases. Conclusions: GVM is an uncommon type of simple venous malformation in the superficial soft tissue and different from the classical glomus tumor. Morphologically, one or more layers of glomus cells grow around the dilated venous malformation-like lumen, which can be combined with common venous malformations.

Abstract
Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is an aggressive malignancy of the digestive system with increasing incidence and mortality rates. The biological roles of microRNA (miR)-378a-3p in tumor cells remain contested, and the mechanisms underlying the functions, energy metabolism, and cell survival mechanisms in ESCC cells are yet to be fully elucidated. In the present study, miR-378a-3p overexpression and negative control plasmids were transfected into ECA-109 cells using electroporation. Western blotting was used to detect the relative expression of proteins, and flow cytometry was used to detect cell apoptosis. Subsequently, ELISA assays were performed to determine enzyme activity, and an ATP detection kit was used to measure ATP content. Dual-luciferase reporter assays were performed to identify the target genes of miR-378a-3p. The results of the present study demonstrated that miR-378a-3p inhibited the gene expression and enzyme activities of glucose transporter protein 1 (GLUT-1), Aldolase A (ALDOA), and pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2), all of which are involved in the glycolytic pathway of cells. Energy metabolism was suppressed by miR-378a-3p by reducing ATP content, and this downregulated the expression of Bcl-2 and Survivin. Moreover, increased miR-378a-3p expression promoted cell apoptosis in the early stages by increasing the expression levels and the activity of Bad and Caspase-3, while inhibiting the expression levels of Bcl-2 and Survivin. The results of the present study also demonstrated that GLUT-1/ALDOA/PKM2 were target genes of miR-378a-3p. Notably, miR-378a-3p blocked energy production and promoted the apoptosis of tumor cells via the downregulation of glycolytic enzyme expression and by reducing the mitochondrial membrane potential in ESCC. Bad, Caspase-3, Survivin, and Bcl-2 may be associated with blocking energy production and promoting apoptosis via miR-378a-3p in ESCC cells.

Abstract
In this paper, the problem of multiplayer hierarchical decision-making problem for non-affine systems is solved by adaptive dynamic programming. Firstly, the control dynamics are obtained according to the theory of dynamic feedback and combined with the original system dynamics to construct the affine augmented system. Thus, the non-affine multiplayer system is transformed into a general affine form. Then, the hierarchical decision problem is modeled as a Stackelberg game. In the Stackelberg game, the leader makes a decision based on the information of all followers, whereas the followers do not know each other's information and only obtain their optimal control strategy based on the leader's decision. Then, the augmented system is reconstructed by a neural network (NN) using input-output data. Moreover, a single critic NN is used to approximate the value function to obtain the optimal control strategy for each player. An extra term added to the weight update law makes the initial admissible control law no longer needed. According to the Lyapunov theory, the state of the system and the error of the weights of the NN are both uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, the feasibility and validity of the algorithm are confirmed by simulation.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the clinical effects of endoscopic thyroidectomy using a modified gasless transsubclavian approach and the traditional neck approach for unilateral papillary thyroid carcinoma (cN0). Methods: The clinical data of 135 patients with cN0 papillary thyroid carcinoma who underwent unilateral thyroidectomy in the Department of Thyroid Surgery, the First Hospital of Jilin University from October 2020 to November 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 37 males and 98 females, aging (43.2±8.8) years (range: 21 to 59 years). There were 51 cases using the modified gasless transsubclavian approach (TS group) and 84 cases using the traditional neck approach (TN group). Comparative analyses were performed between the operative results of the 2 groups by t-test, Wilcoxon rank sum test, and χ2 test. Results: All endoscopic operations were successfully completed without conversion to the traditional neck approach. Compared to the TN group, the TS group had a longer operation time (M(IQR)) (73.5 (22.5) minutes vs. 90.0 (30.0) minutes, Z=-5.831, P<0.01), more postoperative drainage (60 (25) ml vs. 95 (45) ml, Z=-6.275, P<0.01), higher hospitalization costs (22 687 (3 488) yuan vs. 26 652 (2 431) yuan, Z=-6.944, P<0.01), and a higher rate of parathyroid autotransplantation (15.5% (13/84) vs. 60.8% (31/51), χ2=29.651, P<0.01). There was no significant difference in the total exposure rate of the central compartment, postoperative hospitalization time, the number of dissected lymph nodes, the number of metastatic lymph nodes, C-reactive protein ratio before and after operation, and preoperative and postoperative parathyroid hormone (all P>0.05). Conclusion: Endoscopic thyroidectomy using the modified gasless transsubclavian approach is safe for cN0 papillary thyroid carcinoma, with longer operating time, more postoperative drainage, higher hospitalization costs, and more difficulty in preserving the inferior parathyroid gland in situ compared to traditional open surgery.

Abstract
Reaction of the nitrosylated-iron metallodithiolate ligand, paramagnetic (NO)Fe(N2S2), with [M(CH3CN)n][BF4]2 salts (M = NiII, PdII, and PtII; n = 4 or 6) affords di-radical tri-metallic complexes in a stairstep type arrangement ([FeMFe]2+, M = Ni, Pd, and Pt), with the central group 10 metal held in a MS4 square plane. These isostructural compounds have nearly identical ν(NO) stretching values, isomer shifts, and electrochemical properties, but vary in their magnetic properties. Despite the intramolecular Fe⋯Fe distances of ca. 6 Å, antiferromagnetic coupling is observed between {Fe(NO)}7 units as established by magnetic susceptibility, EPR, and DFT studies. The superexchange interaction through the thiolate sulfur and central metal atoms is on the order of NiII < PdII ≪ PtII with exchange coupling constants (J) of -3, -23, and -124 cm-1, consistent with increased covalency of the M-S bonds (3d < 4d < 5d). This trend is reproduced by DFT calculations with molecular orbital analysis providing insight into the origin of the enhancement in the exchange interaction. Specifically, the magnitude of the exchange interaction correlates surprisingly well with the energy difference between the HOMO and HOMO-1 orbitals of the triplet states, which is reflected in the central metal's contribution to these orbitals. These results demonstrate the ability of sulfur-dense metallodithiolate ligands to engender strong magnetic communication by virtue of their enhanced covalency and polarizability.

This review summarizes the recent development of precision gene editing technology based on CRISPR/Cas9, and prospects the challenges and opportunities of this technology.

Abstract
The complexes [FeIII(HMC)(C2DMA)2]CF3SO3 ([2]OTf) and [FeIII(HMTI)(C2Y)2]CF3SO3 ([3a-c]OTf) have been prepared and thoroughly characterized (HMC = 5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane; HMTI = 5,5,7,12,12,14-hexamethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradeca-1,3,8,10-tetraene; Y = Fc (ferrocenyl, [3a]OTf), 4-(N,N-dimethyl)anilino (DMA, [3b]OTf), or 4-(N,N-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)anilino (TPA, [3c]OTf); OTf- = CF3SO3-)). Vibrational and electronic absorption spectroelectrochemical analyses following one-electron oxidation of the ethynyl substituent Y revealed evidence of strong coupling in the resultant mixed valent species for all HMTI-based complexes. However, the analogous mixed valent ion based on [2]OTf appeared to be more localized. Thus, the tetra-imino macrocycle HMTI has enabled significant valence delocalization along the -C2-FeIII-C2- bridge. Electron paramagnetic resonance and Mössbauer spectroscopic studies of [3b]OTf reveal that the π-acidity of HMTI lowers the energy of the FeIII dπ orbitals compared to the purely σ-donating HMC. This observation provides a basis for the interpretation of the macrocycle-dependent valence (de)localization.

Abstract
Trust prediction provides valuable support for decision making, information dissemination, and product promotion in online social networks. As a complex concept in the social network community, trust relationships among people can be established virtually based on: 1) their interaction behaviors, e.g., the ratings and comments that they provided; 2) the contextual information associated with their interactions, e.g., location and culture; and 3) the relative temporal features of interactions and the time periods when the trust relationships hold. Most of the existing works only focus on some aspects of trust, and there is not a comprehensive study of user trust development that considers and incorporates 1)-3) in trust prediction. In this article, we propose a context-aware deep trust prediction model C-DeepTrust to fill this gap. First, we conduct user feature modeling to obtain the user's static and dynamic preference features in each context. Static user preference features are obtained from all the ratings and reviews that a user provided, while dynamic user preference features are obtained from the items rated/reviewed by the user in time series. The obtained context-aware user features are then combined and fed into the multilayer projection structure to further mine the context-aware latent features. Finally, the context-aware trust relationships between users are calculated by their context-aware feature vector cosine similarities according to the social homophily theory, which shows a pervasive property of social networks that trust relationships are more likely to be developed among similar people. Extensive experiments conducted on two real-world datasets show the superior performance of our approach compared with the representative baseline methods.

Abstract
This study investigated the release of heavy metals from polluted soil under the pore water flow containing nanobubbles (NBs) to simulate natural ebullition. Three types of NBs (CH4, H2, and CO2) were generated in water and characterized, including bubble size, zeta potential, liquid density, and tension. The flow rate used in column tests was optimized to achieve proper soil fluidization and metal desorption or release. The leachate chemistries were monitored to assess the effect of NBs on conductivity, pH, oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), and dissolved oxygen (DO). The results showed that NBs in the pore water flow were significantly more effective in releasing Pb compared to DI water, with CO2 NB water being the most effective and H2 NB water being the least effective. CO2 NB water was also used to rinse column soil contaminated with four different metals (Pb, Cu, Zn, and Cr), which exhibited different leaching kinetics. Moreover, a convective-dispersion-deposition equation (CDDE) model accurately simulated the leaching kinetics and explained the effects of NBs on the key parameters, such as the deposition rate coefficient (Kd), that affect the released metal transport. The findings could provide new insights into soil pollutant release under ebullition and soil remediation using water wash containing NBs.

Abstract
Genomic MET amplification and exon 14 skipping are currently clinically recognized biomarkers for stratifying subsets of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients according to the predicted response to c-Met inhibitors (c-Metis), yet the overall clinical benefit of this strategy is quite limited. Notably, c-Met protein overexpression, which occurs in approximately 20-25% of NSCLC patients, has not yet been clearly defined as a clinically useful biomarker. An optimized strategy for accurately classifying patients with c-Met overexpression for decision-making regarding c-Meti treatment is lacking. Herein, we found that SYK regulates the plasticity of cells in an epithelial state and is associated with their sensitivity to c-Metis both in vitro and in vivo in PDX models with c-Met overexpression regardless of MET gene status. Furthermore, TGF-β1 treatment resulted in SYK transcriptional downregulation, increased Sp1-mediated transcription of FRA1, and restored the mesenchymal state, which conferred resistance to c-Metis. Clinically, a subpopulation of NSCLC patients with c-Met overexpression coupled with SYK overexpression exhibited a high response rate of 73.3% and longer progression-free survival with c-Meti treatment than other patients. SYK negativity coupled with TGF-β1 positivity conferred de novo and acquired resistance. In summary, SYK regulates cell plasticity toward a therapy-sensitive epithelial cell state. Furthermore, our findings showed that SYK overexpression can aid in precisely stratifying NSCLC patients with c-Met overexpression regardless of MET alterations and expand the population predicted to benefit from c-Met-targeted therapy.

Abstract
Supercapacitors are attracting extensive attention in energy storage fields thanks to their high safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. The carbon materials, especially for the porous carbon materials derived from renewable biomass materials, are important electrode materials with cost-effective feature for supercapacitors. However, the inferior ionic conductivity of biomass materials inhibits their electrochemical performance in energy storage devices. Herein, an immiscible liquid-mediated method is provided to improve the ionic conductivity of silk-derived nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NPC) electrodes. Natural Bombyx mori (silkworm) silk is used as a carbon source for the preparation of electrode of supercapacitor. Further introducing immiscible organic liquid into the NPCs promotes the ion transport in the inner pores of the electrodes. With the assistance of organic liquid, the supercapacitor presents a specific capacitance of 565.3 F g-1 at a current density of 1 A g-1. The supercapacitor shows the maximum specific energy and power density of 26.2 Wh kg-1 and 263.9 W kg-1, and holds a capacitance retention of approximately 93.3% after 10 000 cycles. This work provides a facile method for the rational design of carbon material derived from biomass material to fabricate electrode with high ionic conductivity, and the strategy will be extendable to other biomass materials for a wide range of applications.

Abstract
Active surveillance, as a first-line treatment strategy for low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma, has been recommended by guidelines worldwide. However, active surveillance has not been widely accepted by doctors and patients in China. In view of the huge challenges faced by active surveillance, doctors should improve their understanding of the "low risk" of papillary thyroid micropapillary cancer, identify some intermediate or high-risk cases, be familiar with the criteria and methods of diagnosis for disease progression, and timely turn patients with disease progression into more active treatment strategies. By analyzing the long-term cost-effectiveness of active surveillance, it is clear that medical expense is only one cost form of medical activities, and the health cost (thyroid removal and surgical complications) paid by patients due to"over-diagnosis and over-treatment" is the most important. Moreover, the weakening of the patients' social function caused by surgical procedures is a more hidden and far-reaching cost. The formulation of health economic policies (including medical insurance) should promote the adjustment of diagnosis and treatment behavior to the direction which is conducive to the long-term life and treatment of patients, improving the overall health level of society and reducing the overall cost. At the same time, doctors should stimulate the subjective initiative of patients, help them fully understand the impact of various treatment methods on their psychological and physical status, support patients psychologically, and strengthen their confidence in implementing active surveillance. By strengthening multi-disciplinary treatment team and system support, doctors can achieve risk stratification of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma, accurate judgment of disease progress, timely counseling for psychological problems, and long-term adherence to active surveillance. Improving the treatment level of advanced thyroid cancer is the key point of improve the prognosis. It is important to promote the development of active surveillance for low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma. In the future, it is necessary to carry out multi-center prospective research and accumulate research evidence for promoting the standardization process of active surveillance. Standardized active surveillance will certainly benefit specific papillary thyroid microcarcinoma patients.

Prognostic value of RILPL2 and its correlation with tumor immune microenvironment and glycolysis in non-small cell lung cancer. Cell Cycle 2023; 22:841-857. Abstract
Rab-interacting lysosomal protein - like 2 (RILPL2) has been reported to be associated with prognosis and tumor biological functions in breast cancer and endometrial carcinoma. However, its expression and functional role in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remain unclear. The expression and clinical data of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous carcinoma (LUSC) were downloaded from the TCGA database. The expression of RILPL2 in NSCLC cell lines was verified by the Western blot. We used online databases and bioinformatics analysis tools to explore its prognostic value, potential biological functions, and correlations with tumor immune microenvironment.The expression of RILPL2 was significantly lower in NSCLC compared with adjacent normal tissues. Low RILPL2 expression was associated with worse overall survival (OS) in NSCLC. The GO analysis showed RILPL2 was comprehensively involved in immune activity. RILPL2 expression was significantly positively correlated with the infiltration levels of B cells, CD8+T cells, CD4+T cells, macrophages, neutrophils, dendritic cells (P < 0.001), and it was also significantly positively correlated with programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1/CD274) (P < 0.001). High RILPL2 expression could predict better immunotherapy response and prognosis in the immunotherapy cohort. The GSEA analysis showed low RILPL2 expression was associated with glycolysis process in LUAD, which was verified in vitro.These results showed RILPL2 expression was correlated with prognosis, tumor microenvironment, and immunotherapy response in NSCLC. Besides, RILPL2 may regulate glycolysis in LUAD.

Abstract
Background: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective surgical treatment for essential tremor (ET), with the ventral intermediate nucleus (Vim) and posterior subthalamic area (PSA) as the most common targets. The stimulation efficacy of ET with Vim–PSA double-target DBS has been reported. Herein, we aim to propose surgical techniques for Vim–PSA double-target DBS surgery. Methods: This study enrolled six patients with ET who underwent Vim–PSA double-target electrode implantation from October 2019 to May 2022. The targets were located and adjusted using coordinates and multimodality MRI images. A burr hole was accurately drilled in line with the electrode trajectory under the guidance of a stereotactic frame. Novel approaches were adopted during the electrode implantation process for pneumocephalus reduction, including “arachnoid piamater welding” and “water sealing”. Electrophysiological recording was used to identify the implantation sites of the electrodes. A 3D reconstruction model of electrodes and nuclei was established to facilitate programming. Results: The combination of coordinates and multimodality MRI images for target location and adjustment enabled the alignment of Vim and PSA. Postoperative CT scanning showed that the electrode was precisely implanted. Stereotactic guidance facilitated accurate burr hole drilling. “Arachnoid piamater welding” and “water sealing” were efficient in reducing pneumocephalus. Intraoperative electrophysiological verified the efficacy of Vim–PSA double-target DBS surgery. Conclusions: The methods for target location and adjustment, accurate drilling of the burr hole, reduction in pneumocephalus, and intraoperative electrophysiological verification are key issues in DBS surgery targeting both the Vim and PSA. This study may provide technical support for Vim–PSA DBS, especially for surgeons with less experience in functional neurosurgery.

[Expression of CD47 and its ligands in pregnant mice infected with Toxoplasma gondii during pregnancy]. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the dynamic expression of cluster of differentiation 47 (CD47) and its ligands signaling regulatory protein α (SIRPα) and thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) in mice infected with Toxoplasma gondii in the second and third trimesters. METHODS C57BL/6J mice (6 to 8 weeks old) were used for modeling T. gondii infection in the first trimester, and the pregnant mice were randomly divided into the normal control and infection groups, of 10 mice in each group. Pregnant mice in the infection group were intraperitoneally injected with 150 T. gondii tachyzoites on gestational day (Gd) 6.5, while pregnant mice in the normal control group were intraperitoneally injected with the same volume of physiological saline at the same time. The uterine and placental specimens were collected from all pregnant mice on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5, and the pregnant outcomes were recorded. The pathological damages of mouse uterine and placental specimens were observed using hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5. The relative expression of CD47, SIRPα, TSP-1, surface antigen 1 (SAG1), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), interleukin-2 (IL-2), IL-4 and IL-13 mRNA was quantified in mouse uterine and placental specimens using real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (qPCR) assay, and the CD47, SIRPα, TSP-1 expression was determined in mouse uterine and placental specimens using immunohistochemical staining. RESULTS As compared with those in the normal control group, the pregnant mice in the infection group showed back arching, bristling, trembling and listlessness during pregnancy, and several mice presented virginal bleeding and abortion. Pathological examinations showed inflammatory cell infiltration, congestion and necrosis in uterine and placental specimens of pregnant mice in the infection group, a higher abortion rate of pregnant mice was seen in the infection group than in the normal control group on Gd12.5 (χ2 = 20.405, P < 0.001) and Gd18.5 (χ2 = 28.644, P < 0.001). qPCR assay showed significant differences in the expression of CD47, SIRPα, TSP-1, SAG1, INF-γ, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-13 genes in mouse placental specimens between the normal control and infection groups on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5 [F' (F) = 37.511, 29.337, 97.343, 53.755, 67.188, 21.145, 8.658 and 13.930, all P values < 0.001]. Higher CD47, SIRPα and TSP-1 gene expression was quantified in mouse placental specimens in the infection group than in the normal control group on Gd12.5 (all P values < 0.01), and lower CD47, SIRPα and TSP-1 gene expression was quantified in the infection group than in the normal control group on Gd18.5 (all P values < 0.001), while higher SAG1 gene expression was detected in placental specimens of pregnant mice in the infection group than in the normal control group on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5 (both P values < 0.01). In addition, higher INF-γ and IL-2 expression and lower IL-4 and IL-13 expression was detected in mouse placental specimens in the infection group than in the normal control group on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5 (all P values < 0.001), and there were significant differences in the CD47, SIRPα, TSP-1, SAG1, INF-γ, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-13 gene expression in uterine specimens of pregnant mice between the normal control and infection groups on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5 [H(F' and F) = 14.951, 25.977, 18.711, 48.595, 39.318, 14.248 and 15.468, all P values < 0.01], and higher CD47 and TSP-1 expression was detected in mouse uterine specimens in the infection group than in the control group on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5 (all P values < 0.01); however, no significant difference was found in the SIRPα expression (P > 0.05). Higher SAG1 expression was detected in uterine specimens of pregnant mice in the infection group than in the normal control group on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5 (both P values < 0.01), and higher INF-γ and IL-2 gene expression and lower IL-4 and IL-13 gene expression was found in the placental specimens of pregnant mice in the infection group than in the normal control group on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5 (all P values < 0.001). Spearman correlation analysis showed that the CD47 gene expression correlated positively with IFN-γ (rs = 0.735, P < 0.05) and IL-2 (rs = 0.655, P < 0.05) and negatively with IL-4 (rs = -0.689, P < 0.05) and IL-13 expression (rs = -0.795, P < 0.05) in the placental specimens of pregnant mice in the infection group on Gd12.5, and the CD47 gene expression correlated negatively with IFN-γ (rs = -0.745, P < 0.05) and IL-2 expression (rs = -0.816, P < 0.05) and positively with IL-4 (rs = 0.704, P < 0.05) and IL-13 (rs = 0.802, P < 0.05) in the placental specimens of pregnant mice in the infection group on Gd18.5. Immunohistochemical staining showed mild CD47, SIRPα and TSP-1 expression in uterine and placental specimens of pregnant mice in the normal control group on Gd12.5 and Gd18.5, strong CD47, SIRPα and TSP-1 expression in the placental specimens of pregnant mice in the infection group on Gd12.5 and strong CD47 and TSP-1 expression in the uterine specimens of pregnant mice in the infection group on Gd12.5. CONCLUSIONS T. gondii infection in the first trimester may cause abnormal expression of CD47 and its ligands SIRPα and TSP-1 in the maternal-fetal interface of pregnant mice in the second and third trimesters, which may be associated with the immune escape of T. gondii at the maternal-fetal interface.

Abstract
Supercapacitor diode (CAPode) is a novel device that integrates ion diode functionality into a conventional electrical double-layer capacitor and is expected to have great applications in emerging fields such as signal propagation, microcircuit rectification, logic operations, and neuromorphology. Here, a brand new pseudocapacitor diode is reported that has both high charge storage (50.2 C g-1 at 20 mV s-1 ) and high rectification (the rectification ratio of 0.79 at 200 mV s-1 ) properties, which is realized by the ion-selective surface redox reaction of spinel ZnCo2 O4 in aqueous alkaline electrolyte. Furthermore, an application of the integrated device is demonstrated in the logic gate of circuit system to realize the logic operations of "AND" and "OR". This work not only expands the types of CAPodes, but also provides a train of thought for constructing high-performance capacitive ionic diodes.

Abstract
Considering the high costs of producing catalysts, designing a bifunctional catalyst is one of the favorable ways through which the best result can be achieved with less effort. Herein, we use a one-step calcination method to obtain a bifunctional catalyst Ni2P/NF for the simultaneous oxidation of benzyl alcohol (BA) and reduction of water. A series of electrochemical tests have shown that this catalyst has a low catalytic voltage, long-term stability and high conversion rates. The theoretical calculation unveils the essential reason for its excellent activity. The synergistic effect of Ni and P optimizes the adsorption and desorption energy of the intermediate species, thus reducing the energy barrier of the rate-determining step during BA electrooxidation. Thus, this work has laid the foundation for designing a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for BA oxidation and the hydrogen revolution.

[Intermittent heat exposure induces thoracic aorta injury in spontaneously hypertensive rats by activating the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 pathway]. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the effects of different manners of heat exposure on thoracic aorta injury in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) and explore the underlying mechanism. METHODS Normal 6 to 7-week-old male SHRs were randomized into control group (cage at room temperature), intermittent heat exposure group (SHR-8 group, exposed to 32 ℃ for 8 h daily for 7 days) and SHR-24 group (with continuous exposure to 32 ℃ for 7 days). After the treatments, the pathologies of the thoracic aorta of the rats were observed with HE staining, and the expressions of Beclin1, LC3B and p62 were detected with Western blotting and immunofluorescence assay; TUNEL staining was used to observe cell apoptosis in the thoracic aorta, and the expressions of caspase-3, Bax, and Bcl-2 were detected using Western blotting. The effects of intraperitoneal injections of 3-MA (an autophagy agonist), rapamycin (an autophagy inhibitor) or compound C 30 min before intermittent heat exposure on the expressions of proteins associated with autophagy, apoptosis and the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 pathway in the aorta were examined with immunohistochemistry. RESULTS In SHR-8 group, the rats showed incomplete aortic intima with disordered cell distribution and significantly increased expressions of Beclin1, LC3II/LC3I and Bax, lowered expressions of p62 and Bcl-2, and increased apoptotic cells in the thoracic aorta (P < 0.05). Pretreatment with 3-MA obviously inhibited the expressions of autophagy- and apoptosis-related proteins, whereas rapamycin promoted their expressions. Compared with the control group, the rats in SHR-8 group had significantly down-regulated p-mTOR and up-regulated p-AMPK and p-ULK1 expression of in the aorta; Treatment with compound C obviously lowered the expressions of p-AMPK and p-ULK1 and those of LC3B and Beclin1 as well. CONCLUSION In SHRs, intermittent heat exposure causes significant pathologies and promotes autophagy and apoptosis in the thoracic aorta possibly by activating the AMPK/mTOR/ULK1 pathway.

Abstract
PURPOSE The PET scanners with long axial field of view (AFOV) having ~ 20 times higher sensitivity than conventional scanners provide new opportunities for enhanced parametric imaging but suffer from the dramatically increased volume and complexity of dynamic data. This study reconstructed a high-quality direct Patlak Ki image from five-frame sinograms without input function by a deep learning framework based on DeepPET to explore the potential of artificial intelligence reducing the acquisition time and the dependence of input function in parametric imaging. METHODS This study was implemented on a large AFOV PET/CT scanner (Biograph Vision Quadra) and twenty patients were recruited with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) dynamic scans. During training and testing of the proposed deep learning framework, the last five-frame (25 min, 40-65 min post-injection) sinograms were set as input and the reconstructed Patlak Ki images by a nested EM algorithm on the vendor were set as ground truth. To evaluate the image quality of predicted Ki images, mean square error (MSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and structural similarity index measure (SSIM) were calculated. Meanwhile, a linear regression process was applied between predicted and true Ki means on avid malignant lesions and tumor volume of interests (VOIs). RESULTS In the testing phase, the proposed method achieved excellent MSE of less than 0.03%, high SSIM, and PSNR of ~ 0.98 and ~ 38 dB, respectively. Moreover, there was a high correlation (DeepPET: [Formula: see text]= 0.73, self-attention DeepPET: [Formula: see text]=0.82) between predicted Ki and traditionally reconstructed Patlak Ki means over eleven lesions. CONCLUSIONS The results show that the deep learning-based method produced high-quality parametric images from small frames of projection data without input function. It has much potential to address the dilemma of the long scan time and dependency on input function that still hamper the clinical translation of dynamic PET.

Abstract
Classification methods for streaming data are not new, but very few current frameworks address all three of the most common problems with these tasks: concept drift, noise, and the exorbitant costs associated with labeling the unlabeled instances in data streams. Motivated by this gap in the field, we developed an active learning framework based on a dual-query strategy and Ebbinghaus's law of human memory cognition. Called CogDQS, the query strategy samples only the most representative instances for manual annotation based on local density and uncertainty, thus significantly reducing the cost of labeling. The policy for discerning drift from noise and replacing outdated instances with new concepts is based on the three criteria of the Ebbinghaus forgetting curve: recall, the fading period, and the memory strength. Simulations comparing CogDQS with baselines on six different data streams containing gradual drift or abrupt drift with and without noise show that our approach produces accurate, stable models with good generalization ability at minimal labeling, storage, and computation costs.

Abstract
Understanding the electron-phonon interaction in Au nanoclusters (NCs) is essential for enhancing and tuning their photoluminescence (PL) properties. Among all the methods, ligand engineering is the most straightforward and facile one to design Au NCs with the desired PL properties. However, a systematic understanding of the ligand effects toward electron-phonon interactions in Au NCs is still missing. Herein, we synthesized four Au25(SR)18- NCs protected by different -SR ligands and carefully examined their temperature-dependent band-gap renormalization behavior. Data analysis by a Bose-Einstein two-oscillator model revealed a suppression of high-frequency optical phonons in aromatic-ligand-protected Au25 NCs. Meanwhile, a low-frequency breathing mode and a quadrupolar mode are attributed as the main contributors to the phonon-assisted nonradiative relaxation pathway in aromatic-ligand-protected Au25 NCs, which is in contrast with non-aromatic-ligand-protected Au25 NCs, in which tangential and radial modes play the key roles. The PL measurements of the four Au25 NCs showed that the suppression of optical phonons led to higher quantum yields in aromatic-ligand-protected Au25 NCs. Cryogenic PL measurements provide insights into the nonradiative energy relaxation, which should be further investigated for a full understanding of the PL mechanism in Au25 NCs.

Abstract
Eucommia ulmoides staminate flowers (EUF), a newly approved functional food in China, have great potential for hormonal regulation. Herein, we aim to demonstrate the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of EUF in testosterone production and hormonal regulation. EUF extract and its components, kaempferol and geniposidic acid, exhibited a strong stimulating effect by increasing testosterone secretion, reducing ROS production, or promoting viability in Leydig cells. Meanwhile, the increased testosterone production was related to the upregulation of mRNA and protein expression of the steroidogenic pathway, such as steroidogenic acute-regulatory protein (StAR), 3β -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (HSD3B1), 17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase (CYP17A1), and nuclear receptor subfamily 5 group A member 1 (NR5A1). However, PKA inhibitor H89 or adenylyl cyclase inhibitor SQ22536 could block their effect. The results of transgenic yeast models showed the androgenic agonistic effects of kaempferol and naringenin and the estrogenic agonistic effects of rutin. These results indicated that the testosterone promotional effect of EUF was related to the activation of the steroidogenic pathway and potential hormonal regulation. Kaempferol and geniposidic acid might be the key active ingredients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide some causal evidence concerning the effects of metformin on osteoarthritis (OA) using two metformin targets, namely AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) as metformin proxies. METHODS This is a 2-sample Mendelian randomization design. We constructed 44 AMPK-related variants genetically predicted in HbA1c (%) as instruments for AMPK and five variants strongly predicted GDF-15 as instruments for GDF-15. Summary-level data for three OA phenotypes, including OA at any site, knee OA, and hip OA were obtained from the largest genome-wide meta-analysis across the UK Biobank and arcOGEN with 455,211 Europeans. Main analyses were conducted using the inverse-variance weighted method. Weighted median and MR-Egger were conducted as sensitivity analyses to assess the robustness of our results. RESULTS Genetically predicted AMPK were negatively associated with OA at any site (OR: 0.60; 95% CI: 0.43-0.83) and hip OA (OR: 0.42; 95% CI: 0.22-0.80), but with not knee OA (OR: 0.85; 95% CI: 0.49-1.50). Higher levels of genetically predicted GDF-15 reduced the risk of hip OA (OR: 0.95; 95% CI: 0.90-0.99), but not OA at any site (OR: 1.00; 95% CI: 0.98-1.02) and knee OA (OR: 1.02; 95% CI: 0.98-1.07). CONCLUSION This study indicates that AMPK and GDF-15 can be potential therapeutic targets for OA, especially for hip OA, and metformin would be repurposed for OA therapy which needs to be verified in randomized controlled trials.

Abstract
Background Optimizing the timing of influenza vaccination based on regional temporal seasonal influenza illness patterns may make seasonal influenza vaccination more effective in China. Methods We obtained provincial weekly influenza surveillance data for 30 of 31 provinces in mainland China from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention for the years 2010–2018. Influenza epidemiological regions were constructed by clustering analysis. For each region, we calculated onset date, end date, and duration of seasonal influenza epidemics by the modified mean threshold method. To help identify initial vaccination target populations, we acquired weekly influenza surveillance data for four age groups (0–4, 5–18, 19–59, and ≥60 years) in each region and in 171 cities of wide‐ranging size. We used linear regression analyses to explore the association of epidemic onset dates by age group, city, and epidemiological region and provide evidence for initial target populations for seasonal influenza vaccination. Results We determined that northern, mid, southwestern, southeast regions of mainland China have distinct seasonal influenza epidemic patterns. We found significant regional, temporal, and spatial heterogeneity of seasonal influenza epidemics. There were significant differences by age group and city size in the interval between epidemic onset in the city or age group and regional spread (epidemic lead time), with longer epidemic lead times for 5‐ to 18‐year‐old children and larger cities. Conclusions Knowledge of influenza epidemic characteristics may help optimize local influenza vaccination timing and identify initial target groups for seasonal influenza vaccination in mainland China. Similar analyses may help inform seasonal influenza vaccination strategies in other regions and countries.

Abstract
PURPOSE Plenty of studies have examined the long term effect of weight loss on bone mineral density. This study aimed to explore the effects of 10% weight loss on early changes in bone metabolism as well as the possible influencing factors. METHODS Overweight and obese outpatients (BMI > 24.0 kg/m2) were recruited from the nutrition clinic and followed a calorie-restricted, high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet program. Dietary intake, body composition, serum procollagen type I N-propeptide (PINP), β-Crosslaps, PTH, 25(OH) VitD, a series of inflammatory cytokines and adipokines were measured for the participants before starting to lose weight and after 10% weight loss (NCT04207879). RESULTS A total of 75 participants were enrolled and 37 participants achieved a weight loss of at least 10%. It was found that PINP decreased (p = 0.000) and the β-Crosslaps increased (p = 0.035) in female participants. Decreases in PTH (p = 0.001), serum IL-2 (p = 0.013), leptin (p = 0.001) and increases in 25(OH) VitD (p = 0.001), serum ghrelin (p = 0.033) were found in 37 participants after 10% of their weight had been lost. Change in PINP was detected to be significantly associated with change in lean body mass (r = 0.418, p = 0.012) and change in serum ghrelin(r = - 0.374, p = 0.023). CONCLUSIONS Bone formation was suppressed and bone absorption was increased in female subjects after a 10% weight loss. Bone turnover was found to be associated with lean body mass and affected by the circulating ghrelin level.

Abstract
An event-triggered adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) algorithm is developed in this article to solve the tracking control problem for partially unknown constrained uncertain systems. First, an augmented system is constructed, and the solution of the optimal tracking control problem of the uncertain system is transformed into an optimal regulation of the nominal augmented system with a discounted value function. The integral reinforcement learning is employed to avoid the requirement of augmented drift dynamics. Second, the event-triggered ADP is adopted for its implementation, where the learning of neural network weights not only relaxes the initial admissible control but also executes only when the predefined execution rule is violated. Third, the tracking error and the weight estimation error prove to be uniformly ultimately bounded, and the existence of a lower bound for the interexecution times is analyzed. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the present event-triggered ADP method.

Does transfer of low grade blastocysts results in acceptable live birth rates the birth of healthy babies?
Summary answer
While BC/CB/CC blastocysts have a reduced chance of live birth compared with AA/AB/BA/BB blastocysts, the absolute chances are still reasonable.
What is known already
Transfer of poorer quality embryos and blastocysts result in lower live birth rates, though to what extent is unclear, nor if there is an absolute threshold below which live births are very rare or even do not occur. Further, the developmental competence of the inner cell mass (ICM) or trophectoderm (TE) could at least theoretically impact the pregnancy and/or the health of the baby. Many clinics do not transfer or freeze poor quality embryos and blastocysts, and prefer to submit the patient to a further stimulation cycle.
Study design, size, duration
We performed a retrospective analysis of 10,978 couples undergoing singleton blastocyst transfers between 2009 and March 2020. We included all single blastocyst transfers for which there was complete data on blastocyst quality, singleton or twin births, birthweight and gestation at delivery, irrespective of blastocyst grading, female age, cause of infertility, ovarian response or endometrial thickness. We recorded live birth rates, birth weight and gestational age.
Participants/materials, setting, methods
Data from 14 clinics in 3 countries, 8 from China, 5 from New Zealand, and 1 from Australia were included in the final dataset. We compared the impact of blastocyst grading using multiple logistic regression. Blastocyst grading was based on the Gardner classification, in which the first letter denotes the grade of the inner cell mass (A is best), and the second letter the grade of the trophectoderm.
Main results and the role of chance
Overall, 10,978 single blastocyst cycles resulted in 4,261 live births (38.8%) (4195 singletons and 132 twins). Live birth rates were 47% after transfer of AA blastocysts (n = 2306); 42% after AB/BA (n = 2088); 33% after BC (n = 1973); 25% after CB (n = 715) and 14% after CC (n = 117). There were too few AC (n = 27) or CA (n = 12) blastocysts to include in the analysis. The odds of live birth for BC/CB/CC blastocysts compared with AA/AB/BA blastocysts, vary between 0.8 and 0.9.
The live birth rate appears to be more dependent on ICM quality (C grade, n = 844, 23.2%) rather than TE quality (C grade, n = 2117, 32.1%), with the odds of live birth 0.43 and 0.57 respectively compared to A grade ICM or TE.
The average birth weight (singleton only) was 3336.9+/-570.3 g (range 3323 to 3386 g), and the average gestation at delivery (singleton only) was 38+6+/-2.0 weeks (range 38+2 to 39+1). There was no significant difference for birth weight or gestational age at delivery between blastocysts of different grades.
Limitations, reasons for caution
This was a retrospective study. Grading was based on inner cell mass and trophectoderm and not on degree of expansion, or on day of transfer.
It is likely that higher quality blastocysts were transferred first, in a fresh cycle, and poorer quality blastocysts frozen for later transfer.
Wider implications of the findings
The most important finding is that reasonable live birth rates are obtained in CC-blastocysts.
We therefore advocate that CC-blastocysts should be replaced or frozen for later transfer. It is reassuring that there was no impact of blastocyst quality on birth weights or gestational age at the time of delivery.

Abstract
Utilization of mononuclear iron- and 2-oxoglutarate-dependent (Fe/2OG) enzymes to enable C-H bond functionalization is a widely used strategy to diversify the structural complexity of natural products. Besides those well-studied reactions including hydroxylation, epoxidation, and halogenation, in the biosynthetic pathway of dehydrofosmidomycin, an Fe/2OG enzyme is reported to catalyze desaturation, alkyl chain elongation, along with demethylation in which trimethyl-2-aminoethylphosphonate is converted into methyldehydrofosmidomycin. How this transformation takes place is largely unknown. Herein, we characterized the reactive species, revealed the structure of the reaction intermediate, and used mechanistic probes to investigate the reaction pathway and mechanism. These results led to the elucidation of a two-step process in which the first reaction employs a long-lived Fe(IV)-oxo species to trigger C═C bond installation. During the second reaction, the olefin installed in situ enables C-C bond formation that is accompanied with a C-N bond cleavage and hydroxylation to furnish the alkyl chain elongation and demethylation. This work expands the reaction repertoire of Fe/2OG enzymes by introducing a new pathway to the known C-C bond formation mechanisms utilized by metalloenzymes.
