Abstract
The first measurement of the cross section for incoherent photonuclear production of J/ψ vector mesons as a function of the Mandelstam |t| variable is presented. The measurement was carried out with the ALICE detector at midrapidity, |y|<0.8, using ultraperipheral collisions of Pb nuclei at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. This rapidity interval corresponds to a Bjorken-x range (0.3-1.4)×10^{-3}. Cross sections are given in five |t| intervals in the range 0.04<|t|<1 GeV^{2} and compared to the predictions by different models. Models that ignore quantum fluctuations of the gluon density in the colliding hadron predict a |t| dependence of the cross section much steeper than in data. The inclusion of such fluctuations in the same models provides a better description of the data.

Abstract
Introduction Growing evidence highlights a potential genetic overlap between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD); however, the role of the PD risk variant rs6430538 in AD remains unclear. Methods In Stage 1, we investigated the risk associated with the rs6430538 C allele in seven large-scale AD genome-wide association study (GWAS) cohorts. In Stage 2, we performed expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) analysis to calculate the cis-regulated effect of rs6430538 on TMEM163 in both AD and neuropathologically normal samples. Stage 3 involved evaluating the differential expression of TMEM163 in 4 brain tissues from AD cases and controls. Finally, in Stage 4, we conducted a transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS) to identify any association between TMEM163 expression and AD. Results The results showed that genetic variant rs6430538 C allele might increase the risk of AD. eQTL analysis revealed that rs6430538 up-regulated TMEM163 expression in AD brain tissue, but down-regulated its expression in normal samples. Interestingly, TMEM163 showed differential expression in entorhinal cortex (EC) and temporal cortex (TCX). Furthermore, the TWAS analysis indicated strong associations between TMEM163 and AD in various tissues. Discussion In summary, our findings suggest that rs6430538 may influence AD by regulating TMEM163 expression. These discoveries may open up new opportunities for therapeutic strategies targeting AD.

Abstract
Observational studies have indicated a potential influence of childhood phenotypes on the later development of type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, the underlying biological mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive genome-wide analysis to investigate the shared genetic architecture and genetic loci between nine childhood phenotypes (N = 4202-620,26) and later-life T2D (N = 80,154) using genetic correlation, mendelian randomization (MR), and conjunctional false discovery rate (conjFDR) statistical frameworks. Our findings demonstrated substantial genetic correlations and pleiotropic enrichment between childhood obesity, body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and later-life T2D. Childhood obesity exhibited a significant association with increased later-life T2D risk through 10 mediators, 6 of which were adulthood obesity-related phenotypes. Additionally, we identified 69, 83, 3, 5, 10, 5, 3, and 7 loci shared between childhood obesity, BMI, SBP, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides (TG), apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), apolipoprotein B (ApoB), and T2D at conjFDR <0.05, with the majority of these loci being novel discoveries. Overall, our study reveals extensive genetic overlap between childhood obesity-related phenotypes and T2D with concordant effect directions, shedding new light on variants and phenotypes with lifelong effects.

Abstract
Objectives: To examine the functional outcomes of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) with preservation of pelvic floor stabilized structure and early elevated retrograde liberation of the neurovascular bundle (PEEL). Methods: This study was a retrospective cohort study. Between June 1, 2022, and March 20, 2023, 27 cases of RARP with PEEL and 153 cases of RARP with preservation of pelvic floor stabilized structure (PPSS) were included in this study. All patients were males, aged (62.5±5.2) years (range: 50 to 73 years). There were 18 cases of ≤T2b stage and 9 cases of T2c stage. After 1∶1 propensity score matching, the postoperative functional outcomes of 27 cases of RARP with PEEL and 27 cases of RARP with PPSS were compared. All surgeries were performed by a single surgeon and included patients were clinically staged as cT1-2N0M0 without preoperative urinary incontinence or erectile dysfunction. In RARP with PEEL, the prostate was cut near the midline at the front when dissecting the neurovascular bundle, dissection was performed between the visceral layer of the pelvic fascia and the prostatic fascia, preserving the parietal layer and the visceral layer of the pelvic fascia, and the neurovascular bundle was retrogradely released from the apex. The cumulative probability curve was plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method and the Log-rank test was used to compare the differences in functional outcomes between the two groups. Univariate and multivariate analysis with the Cox proportional hazards model was used to compare postoperative urinary continence and sexual function. Results: The recovery time of continence and potency was significantly longer in the PPSS group than in the PEEL group (all P<0.05). The continence rate of the PEEL group was significantly higher than that of the PPSS group (92.59% vs. 68.10%, P=0.026) at 3 months after surgery. The potency rate of the PEEL group was also significantly higher than that of the PPSS group (40.70% vs. 15.10%, P=0.037) at 3 months after surgery. In the univariate analysis, compared to the PPSS technique, the PEEL technique was associated with a shorter recovery time of continence (HR=1.94, 95%CI: 1.08 to 3.48, P=0.027) and a shorter recovery time of potency (HR=2.06, 95%CI: 1.03 to 4.13, P=0.042). In the multivariate analysis, the PEEL technique was an independent prognosis factor for postoperative recovery of continence (HR=2.05, 95%CI: 1.01 to 4.17, P=0.047) and potency (HR=3.57, 95%CI: 1.43 to 8.92, P=0.007). All the cases of the PPSS group and the PEEL group were performed successfully with negative surgical margins. Conclusion: Compared with PPSS, PEEL may be more conducive to the recovery of urinary continence and sexual function after RARP.

Abstract
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, whilst vitamin D levels have been found to be associated with cardiovascular disease. To investigate the causal relationship between vitamin D levels and five cardiovascular diseases, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was carried out using data on vitamin D levels (sample size = 79366), angina pectoris (18168 cases and 187840 controls), coronary heart disease (21012 cases and 197780 controls), lacunar stroke (6030 cases and 248929 controls), heart attack (10693 cases and 451187 controls), and hypertension (55917 cases and 162837 controls), with a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis being subsequently performed. Six single nucleotide polymorphisms were used as instrumental variables (IVs). In addition, sensitivity analysis was performed to verify the reliability of the MR results here. The results showed a causal relationship between vitamin D levels and angina pectoris (OR = 0.51, 95 % CI: 0.28-0.93, P = 0.03), coronary heart disease (OR = 0.53, 95 % CI: 0.34-0.81, P = 0.004), and lacunar stroke (OR = 0.41, 95 % CI: 0.20-0.86, P = 0.02), but no causal relationship with heart attacks (OR = 1.00, 95 % CI: 0.99-1.01, P = 0.76) or hypertension (OR = 0.99, 95 % CI: 0.73-1.34, P = 0.94). Additionally, our IVs data showed no heterogeneity or pleiotropy, whilst the results of the MR analysis were reliable. This study contributes to the prevention and treatment of these five cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
Growing evidence suggests that exposure to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) may reduce life expectancy; however, the causal pathways of PM2.5 exposure affecting life expectancy remain unknown. Here, we assess the causal effects of genetically predicted PM2.5 concentration on common chronic diseases and longevity using a Mendelian randomization (MR) statistical framework based on large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) (>400,000 participants). After adjusting for other types of air pollution and smoking, we find significant causal relationships between PM2.5 concentration and angina pectoris, hypercholesterolaemia and hypothyroidism, but no causal relationship with longevity. Mediation analysis shows that although the association between PM2.5 concentration and longevity is not significant, PM2.5 exposure indirectly affects longevity via diastolic blood pressure (DBP), hypertension, angina pectoris, hypercholesterolaemia and Alzheimer's disease, with a mediated proportion of 31.5, 70.9, 2.5, 100, and 24.7%, respectively. Our findings indicate that public health policies to control air pollution may help improve life expectancy.

Abstract
Understanding the role of parton mass and Casimir color factors in the quantum chromodynamics parton shower represents an important step in characterizing the emission properties of heavy quarks. Recent experimental advances in jet substructure techniques have provided the opportunity to isolate and characterize gluon emissions from heavy quarks. In this Letter, the first direct experimental constraint on the charm-quark splitting function is presented, obtained via the measurement of the groomed shared momentum fraction of the first splitting in charm jets, tagged by a reconstructed D^{0} meson. The measurement is made in proton-proton collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, in the low jet transverse-momentum interval of 15≤p_{T}^{jet ch}<30 GeV/c where the emission properties are sensitive to parton mass effects. In addition, the opening angle of the first perturbative emission of the charm quark, as well as the number of perturbative emissions it undergoes, is reported. Comparisons to measurements of an inclusive-jet sample show a steeper splitting function for charm quarks compared with gluons and light quarks. Charm quarks also undergo fewer perturbative emissions in the parton shower, with a reduced probability of large-angle emissions.

Abstract
Growing evidence suggests the effect of educational attainment (EA) on Alzheimer's disease (AD), but less is known about the shared genetic architecture between them. Here, leveraging genome-wide association studies (GWAS) for AD (N = 21,982/41,944), EA (N = 1,131,881), cognitive performance (N = 257,828), and intelligence (N = 78,308), we investigated their causal association with the linkage disequilibrium score (LDSC) and Mendelian randomization and their shared loci with the conjunctional false discovery rate (conjFDR), transcriptome-wide association studies (TWAS), and colocalization. We observed significant genetic correlations of EA (rg = -0.22, p = 5.07E-05), cognitive performance (rg = -0.27, p = 2.44E-05), and intelligence (rg = -0.30, p = 3.00E-04) with AD, and a causal relationship between EA and AD (OR = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.58-0.94, p = 0.013). We identified 13 shared loci at conjFDR <0.01, of which five were novel, and prioritized three causal genes. These findings inform early prevention strategies for AD.

Abstract
Protein function annotation is one of the most important research topics for revealing the essence of life at molecular level in the post-genome era. Current research shows that integrating multisource data can effectively improve the performance of protein function prediction models. However, the heavy reliance on complex feature engineering and model integration methods limits the development of existing methods. Besides, models based on deep learning only use labeled data in a certain dataset to extract sequence features, thus ignoring a large amount of existing unlabeled sequence data. Here, we propose an end-to-end protein function annotation model named HNetGO, which innovatively uses heterogeneous network to integrate protein sequence similarity and protein-protein interaction network information and combines the pretraining model to extract the semantic features of the protein sequence. In addition, we design an attention-based graph neural network model, which can effectively extract node-level features from heterogeneous networks and predict protein function by measuring the similarity between protein nodes and gene ontology term nodes. Comparative experiments on the human dataset show that HNetGO achieves state-of-the-art performance on cellular component and molecular function branches.

Abstract
The most precise measurements to date of the _{Λ}^{3}H lifetime τ and Λ separation energy B_{Λ} are obtained using the data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV collected by ALICE at the LHC. The _{Λ}^{3}H is reconstructed via its charged two-body mesonic decay channel (_{Λ}^{3}H→^{3}He+π^{-} and the charge-conjugate process). The measured values τ=[253±11(stat)±6(syst)] ps and B_{Λ}=[102±63(stat)±67(syst)] keV are compatible with predictions from effective field theories and confirm that the _{Λ}^{3}H structure is consistent with a weakly bound system.

Abstract
The first measurement of event-by-event antideuteron number fluctuations in high energy heavy-ion collisions is presented. The measurements are carried out at midrapidity (|η|<0.8) as a function of collision centrality in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV using the ALICE detector. A significant negative correlation between the produced antiprotons and antideuterons is observed in all collision centralities. The results are compared with a state-of-the-art coalescence calculation. While it describes the ratio of higher order cumulants of the antideuteron multiplicity distribution, it fails to describe quantitatively the magnitude of the correlation between antiproton and antideuteron production. On the other hand, thermal-statistical model calculations describe all the measured observables within uncertainties only for correlation volumes that are different with respect to those describing proton yields and a similar measurement of net-proton number fluctuations.

Abstract
The transverse-momentum (p_{T}) spectra and coalescence parameters B_{2} of (anti)deuterons are measured in p-p collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV for the first time in and out of jets. In this measurement, the direction of the leading particle with the highest p_{T} in the event (p_{T}^{lead}>5 GeV/c) is used as an approximation for the jet axis. The event is consequently divided into three azimuthal regions, and the jet signal is obtained as the difference between the toward region, that contains jet fragmentation products in addition to the underlying event (UE), and the transverse region, which is dominated by the UE. The coalescence parameter in the jet is found to be approximately a factor of 10 larger than that in the underlying event. This experimental observation is consistent with the coalescence picture and can be attributed to the smaller average phase-space distance between nucleons in the jet cone as compared with the underlying event. The results presented in this Letter are compared to predictions from a simple nucleon coalescence model, where the phase-space distributions of nucleons are generated using pythia8 with the Monash 2013 tuning, and to predictions from a deuteron production model based on ordinary nuclear reactions with parametrized energy-dependent cross sections tuned on data. The latter model is implemented in pythia8.3. Both models reproduce the observed large difference between in-jet and out-of-jet coalescence parameters, although the almost flat trend of the B_{2}^{Jet} is not reproduced by the models, which instead give a decreasing trend.

Genetic correlation, causal relationship, and shared loci between vitamin D and COVID-19: A genome-wide cross-trait analysis. J Med Virol 2023; 95:e28780. Abstract
Observational studies have shown that vitamin D supplementation reduces the risk of COVID-19 infection, yet little is known about the shared genomic architectures between them. Leveraging large-scale genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics, we investigated the genetic correlation and causal relationship between genetically determined vitamin D and COVID-19 using linkage disequilibrium score regression and Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses, and conducted a cross-trait GWAS meta-analysis to identify the overlapping susceptibility loci of them. We observed a significant genetic correlation between genetically predicted vitamin D and COVID-19 (rg = -0.143, p = 0.011), and the risk of COVID-19 infection would decrease by 6% for every 0.76 nmol L-1 increase of serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) concentrations in generalized MR (OR = 0.94, 95% CI: 0.89-0.99, p = 0.019). We identified rs4971066 (EFNA1) as a risk locus for the joint phenotype of vitamin D and COVID-19. In conclusion, genetically determined vitamin D is associated with COVID-19. Increased levels of serum 25OHD concentration may benefit the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

Abstract
Antibody (Ab) responses against human leukocyte antigen (HLA) proteins mismatched between donor and recipient are leading cause of allograft loss in kidney transplantation. However, therapies targeting alloreactive B cell and Ab-secreting cell (ASC) are lacking, motivating the need to understand how to prevent and abrogate these alloresponses. Using molecular, structural, and proteomic techniques, we profiled the B cell response in a kidney transplant recipient with antibody-mediated rejection and graft loss. We found that this response spanned the rejected organ and peripheral blood, stimulated the differentiation of multiple B cell subsets, and produced a high-affinity, donor-specific, anti-HLA response. We found epitopic immunodominance that relied on highly exposed, solvent-accessible mismatched HLA residues as well as structural and biomolecular evidence of autoreactivity against the recipient's self-HLA allele. These alloreactive and autoreactive signatures converged in the recipient's circulating donor-specific Ab repertoire, suggesting that rejection requires both the recognition of non-self and breaches of tolerance to lead to alloinjury and graft loss.

Abstract
Purpose Several antihypertensive drugs have been used for the treatment of glaucoma. However, the effect of hypertension and antihypertensive drugs on glaucoma is still unclear. Methods Leveraging large-scale genome-wide association study summary statistics for glaucoma (Ncase = 4737, Ncontrol = 458,196), blood pressure (BP) (N = 422,771), and intraocular pressure (IOP) (N = 31,269), the genetic correlation and causal relationship of genetically assessed IOP, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and 12 types of antihypertensive drugs with glaucoma were evaluated using linkage disequilibrium score (LDSC) regression, univariate mendelian randomization (MR), and multivariable MR. Results LDSC results showed a suggestive association of glaucoma with SBP (Rg = 0.12, P = 0.0076) and DBP (Rg = 0.17, P = 0.02). In univariate MR, genetically elevated BP in participants was not identified to lead to an increased glaucoma risk (SBP: odds ratio [OR], 1.05 [95% confidence interval {CI}, 0.91-1.21]; P = 0.52; DBP: OR, 1.07 [95% CI, 0.93-1.23]; P = 0.34). The results of univariate MR were replicated in multivariable MR (SBP: OR, 0.95 [95% CI, 0.71-1.29]; P = 0.75; DBP: OR, 1.13 [95% CI, 0.85-1.51]; P = 0.41). Furthermore, there was insufficient evidence to suggest that antihypertensive drugs were associated with glaucoma. Conclusions Together, controlling BP may not help prevent and treat glaucoma, and antihypertensive drugs may neither treat nor worsen glaucoma. Translational Relevance Treating with antihypertensive drugs should not be used as an intervention for patients with glaucoma.

Abstract
Clusterin (CLU) is an extracellular chaperone involved in reducing amyloid beta (Aβ) toxicity and aggregation. Although previous genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have reported a potential protective effect of CLU on Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients, how intron-located rs11136000 (CLU) affects AD risk by regulating CLU expression remains unknown. In this study, we integrated multiple omics data to construct the regulated pathway of rs11136000-CLU-AD. In step 1, we investigated the effects of variant rs11136000 on AD risk with different genders and diagnostic methods using GWAS summary statistics for AD from International Genomics of Alzheimer's Project (IGAP) and UK Biobank. In step 2, we assessed the regulation of rs11136000 on CLU expression in AD brain samples from Mayo clinic and controls from Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx). In step 3, we investigated the differential gene/protein expression of CLU in AD and controls from four large cohorts. The results showed that rs11136000 T allele reduced AD risk in either clinically diagnosed or proxy AD patients. By using expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) analysis, rs11136000 variant downregulated CLU expression in 13 normal brain tissues, but upregulated CLU expression in cerebellum and temporal cortex of AD samples. Importantly, CLU was significantly differentially expressed in temporal cortex, dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and anterior prefrontal cortex of AD patients compared with normal controls. Together, rs11136000 may reduce AD risk by regulating CLU expression, which may provide important information about the biological mechanism of rs9848497 in AD progress.

Abstract
The study of nuclei and antinuclei production has proven to be a powerful tool to investigate the formation mechanism of loosely bound states in high-energy hadronic collisions. The first measurement of the production of _{Λ}^{3}H in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV is presented in this Letter. Its production yield measured in the rapidity interval -1<y<0 for the 40% highest-multiplicity p-Pb collisions is dN/dy=[6.3±1.8(stat)±1.2(syst)]×10^{-7}. The measurement is compared with the expectations of statistical hadronization and coalescence models, which describe the nucleosynthesis in hadronic collisions. These two models predict very different yields of the hypertriton in charged particle multiplicity environments relevant to small collision systems such as p-Pb, and therefore the measurement of dN/dy is crucial to distinguish between them. The precision of this measurement leads to the exclusion with a significance larger than 6.9σ of some configurations of the statistical hadronization model, thus constraining the theory behind the production of loosely bound states at hadron colliders.

Abstract
The polarization of the Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons along the beam (z) direction, P_{z}, has been measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The main contribution to P_{z} comes from elliptic flow-induced vorticity and can be characterized by the second Fourier sine coefficient P_{z,s2}=⟨P_{z}sin(2φ-2Ψ_{2})⟩, where φ is the hyperon azimuthal emission angle and Ψ_{2} is the elliptic flow plane angle. We report the measurement of P_{z,s2} for different collision centralities and in the 30%-50% centrality interval as a function of the hyperon transverse momentum and rapidity. The P_{z,s2} is positive similarly as measured by the STAR Collaboration in Au-Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV, with somewhat smaller amplitude in the semicentral collisions. This is the first experimental evidence of a nonzero hyperon P_{z} in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. The comparison of the measured P_{z,s2} with the hydrodynamic model calculations shows sensitivity to the competing contributions from thermal and the recently found shear-induced vorticity, as well as to whether the polarization is acquired at the quark-gluon plasma or the hadronic phase.

Abstract
Predicting the binding of peptide and major histocompatibility complex (MHC) plays a vital role in immunotherapy for cancer. The success of Alphafold of applying natural language processing (NLP) algorithms in protein secondary struction prediction has inspired us to explore the possibility of NLP methods in predicting peptide-MHC class I binding. Based on the above motivations, we propose the MHCRoBERTa method, RoBERTa pre-training approach, for predicting the binding affinity between type I MHC and peptides. Analysis of the results on benchmark dataset demonstrates that MHCRoBERTa can outperform other state-of-art prediction methods with an increase of the Spearman rank correlation coefficient (SRCC) value. Notably, our model gave a significant improvement on IC50 value. Our method has achieved SRCC value and AUC value as 0.785 and 0.817, respectively. Our SRCC value is 14.3% higher than NetMHCpan3.0 (the second highest SRCC value on pan-specific) and is 3% higher than MHCflurry (the second highest SRCC value on all methods). The AUC value is also better than any other pan-specific methods. Moreover, we visualize the multi-head self-attention for the token representation across the layers and heads by this method. Through the analysis of the representation of each layer and head, we can show whether the model has learned the syntax and semantics necessary to perform the prediction task well. All these results demonstrate that our model can accurately predict the peptide-MHC class I binding affinity and that MHCRoBERTa is a powerful tool for screening potential neoantigens for cancer immunotherapy. Abstract
This article presents groomed jet substructure measurements in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector. The soft drop grooming algorithm provides access to the hard parton splittings inside a jet by removing soft wide-angle radiation. We report the groomed jet momentum splitting fraction, z_{g}, and the (scaled) groomed jet radius, θ_{g}. Charged-particle jets are reconstructed at midrapidity using the anti-k_{T} algorithm with resolution parameters R=0.2 and R=0.4. In heavy-ion collisions, the large underlying event poses a challenge for the reconstruction of groomed jet observables, since fluctuations in the background can cause groomed parton splittings to be misidentified. By using strong grooming conditions to reduce this background, we report these observables fully corrected for detector effects and background fluctuations for the first time. A narrowing of the θ_{g} distribution in Pb-Pb collisions compared to pp collisions is seen, which provides direct evidence of the modification of the angular structure of jets in the quark-gluon plasma. No significant modification of the z_{g} distribution in Pb-Pb collisions compared to pp collisions is observed. These results are compared with a variety of theoretical models of jet quenching, and provide constraints on jet energy-loss mechanisms and coherence effects in the quark-gluon plasma.

Abstract
UNLABELLED Exogenous melatonin inhibited the senescence of preosteoblast cells in type 1 diabetic (T1D) mice and those cultured in high glucose (HG) by multiple regulations. Exogenous melatonin had a protective effect on diabetic osteoporosis, which may depend on the inhibition of senescence. INTRODUCTION Senescence is thought to play an important role in the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying diabetic bone loss. Increasing evidence has shown that melatonin exerts anti-senescence effects. In this study, we investigated whether melatonin can inhibit senescence and prevent diabetic bone loss. METHODS C57BL/6 mice received a single intraperitoneal injection of 160 mg/kg streptozotocin, followed by the oral administration of melatonin or vehicle for 2 months. Then, tissues were harvested and subsequently examined. MC3T3-E1 cells were cultured under HG conditions for 7 days and then treated with melatonin or not for 24 h. Sirt1-specific siRNAs and MT1- or MT2-specific shRNA plasmids were transfected into MC3T3-E1 cells for mechanistic study. RESULTS The total protein extracted from mouse femurs revealed that melatonin prevented senescence in T1D mice. The micro-CT results indicated that melatonin prevented bone loss in T1D mice. Cellular experiments indicated that melatonin administration prevented HG-induced senescence, whereas knockdown of the melatonin receptors MT1 or MT2 abolished these effects. Sirt1 expression was upregulated by melatonin administration but significantly reduced after MT1 or MT2 was knocked down. Knockdown of Sirt1 blocked the anti-senescence effects of melatonin. Additionally, melatonin promoted the expression of CDK2, CDK4, and CyclinD1, while knockdown of MT1 or MT2 abolished these effects. Furthermore, melatonin increased the expression of the polycomb repressive complex (PRC), but knockdown of MT1 or MT2 abolished these effects. Furthermore, melatonin increased the protein levels of Sirt1, PRC1/2 complex-, and cell cycle-related proteins. CONCLUSION This work shows that melatonin protects against T1D-induced bone loss, probably by inhibiting senescence. Targeting senescence in the investigation of diabetic osteoporosis may lead to novel discoveries.

Abstract
The p_{T}-differential production cross sections of prompt D^{0}, Λ_{c}^{+}, and Σ_{c}^{0,++}(2455) charmed hadrons are measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. This is the first measurement of Σ_{c}^{0,++} production in hadronic collisions. Assuming the same production yield for the three Σ_{c}^{0,+,++} isospin states, the baryon-to-meson cross section ratios Σ_{c}^{0,+,++}/D^{0} and Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} are calculated in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) intervals 2<p_{T}<12 and 1<p_{T}<24 GeV/c. Values significantly larger than in e^{+}e^{-} collisions are observed, indicating for the first time that baryon enhancement in hadronic collisions also extends to the Σ_{c}. The feed-down contribution to Λ_{c}^{+} production from Σ_{c}^{0,+,++} is also reported and is found to be larger than in e^{+}e^{-} collisions. The data are compared with predictions from event generators and other phenomenological models, providing a sensitive test of the different charm-hadronization mechanisms implemented in the models.

Abstract
The p_{T}-differential cross sections of prompt charm-strange baryons Ξ_{c}^{0} and Ξ_{c}^{+} were measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The Ξ_{c}^{0} baryon was reconstructed via both the semileptonic decay (Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e}) and the hadronic decay (Ξ^{-}π^{+}) channels. The Ξ_{c}^{+} baryon was reconstructed via the hadronic decay (Ξ^{-}π^{+}π^{+}) channel. The branching-fraction ratio BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})/BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+})=1.38±0.14(stat)±0.22(syst) was measured with a total uncertainty reduced by a factor of about 3 with respect to the current world average reported by the Particle Data Group. The transverse momentum (p_{T}) dependence of the Ξ_{c}^{0}- and Ξ_{c}^{+}-baryon production relative to the D^{0} meson and to the Σ_{c}^{0,+,++}- and Λ_{c}^{+}-baryon production are reported. The baryon-to-meson ratio increases toward low p_{T} up to a value of approximately 0.3. The measurements are compared with various models that take different hadronization mechanisms into consideration. The results provide stringent constraints to these theoretical calculations and additional evidence that different processes are involved in charm hadronization in electron-positron (e^{+}e^{-}) and hadronic collisions.

Abstract
The prompt production of the charm baryon Λ_{c}^{+} and the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} production ratios were measured at midrapidity with the ALICE detector in pp and p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. These new measurements show a clear decrease of the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} ratio with increasing transverse momentum (p_{T}) in both collision systems in the range 2<p_{T}<12 GeV/c, exhibiting similarities with the light-flavor baryon-to-meson ratios p/π and Λ/K_{S}^{0}. At low p_{T}, predictions that include additional color-reconnection mechanisms beyond the leading-color approximation, assume the existence of additional higher-mass charm-baryon states, or include hadronization via coalescence can describe the data, while predictions driven by charm-quark fragmentation processes measured in e^{+}e^{-} and e^{-}p collisions significantly underestimate the data. The results presented in this Letter provide significant evidence that the established assumption of universality (colliding-system independence) of parton-to-hadron fragmentation is not sufficient to describe charm-baryon production in hadronic collisions at LHC energies.

Abstract
Significant genetic association exists between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cardiovascular disease. The associated mechanisms include common inflammatory mediators, changes in lipoprotein composition and function, immune responses, etc. However, the causality of RA and vascular/heart problems remains unknown. Herein, we performed Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis using a large-scale RA genome-wide association study (GWAS) dataset (462,933 cases and 457,732 controls) and six cardio-cerebrovascular disease GWAS datasets, including age angina (461,880 cases and 447,052 controls), hypertension (461,880 cases and 337,653 controls), age heart attack (10,693 cases and 451,187 controls), abnormalities of heartbeat (461,880 cases and 361,194 controls), stroke (7,055 cases and 454,825 controls), and coronary heart disease (361,194 cases and 351,037 controls) from United Kingdom biobank. We further carried out heterogeneity and sensitivity analyses. We confirmed the causality of RA with age angina (OR = 1.17, 95% CI: 1.04–1.33, p = 1.07E−02), hypertension (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.20–1.75, p = 9.64E−05), age heart attack (OR = 1.15, 95% CI: 1.05–1.26, p = 3.56E−03), abnormalities of heartbeat (OR = 1.07, 95% CI: 1.01–1.12, p = 1.49E−02), stroke (OR = 1.06, 95% CI: 1.01–1.12, p = 2.79E−02), and coronary heart disease (OR = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.01–1.39, p = 3.33E−02), contributing to the understanding of the overlapping genetic mechanisms and therapeutic approaches between RA and cardiovascular disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gasdermins (GSDMs)-mediated pyroptosis is widely involved in activating anti-tumor immunity and suppressing tumor growth. However, whether gasdermin D (GSDMD)-mediated pyroptosis affects patient prognosis in pan-cancer remains unknown. METHODS We performed analyses of the RNA expression, genetic alteration, prognosis and immune infiltration of GSDMD in pan-cancer. In order to explore the relationship between pyroptosis and tumors, we calculated the correlation between GSDMD and pyroptosis key genes in pan-cancer. We also investigated the enrichment pathway of GSDMD-related genes. RESULTS GSDMD was differentially expressed in the vast majority of cancer, and could be used as a prognostic marker in adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), brain lower grade glioma (LGG), liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC), skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM) and rectum adenocarcinoma (READ). Strong evidence indicated the significant correlation of GSDMD with almost all immune checkpoints and immune cells. Pyroptosis-related genes strongly associated with GSDMD in ACC, KIRC, LGG, LIHC and SKCM, suggesting that GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis might play a critical role in the five cancers. CONCLUSION All the evidence supported the potential role of GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis in cancer. Our results provided new insights into GSDMD as a prognostic marker and potential therapeutic target for cancer.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental evidence of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a ϕ meson. The result is obtained from two-particle correlations of combined p-ϕ⊕ p[over ¯]-ϕ pairs measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The spin-averaged scattering length and effective range of the p-ϕ interaction are extracted from the fully corrected correlation function employing the Lednický-Lyuboshits approach. In particular, the imaginary part of the scattering length vanishes within uncertainties, indicating that inelastic processes do not play a prominent role for the p-ϕ interaction. These data demonstrate that the interaction is dominated by elastic p-ϕ scattering. Furthermore, an analysis employing phenomenological Gaussian- and Yukawa-type potentials is conducted. Under the assumption of the latter, the N-ϕ coupling constant is found to be g_{N-ϕ}=0.14±0.03(stat)±0.02(syst). This work provides valuable experimental input to accomplish a self-consistent description of the N-ϕ interaction, which is particularly relevant for the more fundamental studies on partial restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear medium.

Abstract
The event-by-event correlations between three flow amplitudes are measured for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, using higher-order symmetric cumulants. We find that different three-harmonic correlations develop during the collective evolution of the medium when compared to correlations that exist in the initial state. These new results cannot be interpreted in terms of previous lower-order flow measurements since contributions from two-harmonic correlations are explicitly removed in the new observables. A comparison to Monte Carlo simulations provides new and independent constraints for the initial conditions and system properties of nuclear matter created in heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of androgen replacement therapy in a rabbit dry eye model characterized by androgen deficiency and meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). Methods: Thirty 6-month-old male Chinchilla rabbits were randomly divided into the treatment group, model group and control group, with 10 rabbits in each group. In the treatment and model groups, 2/3 of the meibomian gland openings were closed by cauterization with electric coagulation pen, and bilateral testes were removed. One gram gel containing 1% testosterone was applied for 28 days on the skin of rabbits in the treatment group since day 28 after the surgery. The model group and control group received transdermal petrolatum instead. Tear secretion, tear breakup time (TBUT), corneal fluorescein staining, and serum free testosterone level were monitored throughout the study period. The globes and eyelids were collected for hematoxylin-eosin staining and periodic acid-Schiff staining. Conjunctival tissue was tested for the expression of miRNA-744-5p and interleukin-6. Meibum was collected for fatty acid analysis. Results: Animals presented with typical dry eye signs and androgen deficiency. After 28-day androgen replacement therapy, compared with the model group, the treatment group had a significantly higher tear secretion rate [(14.7±5.2) vs (10.3±3.6) mm, P=0.001], higher TBUT [(15.0±4.2) vs (10.2±3.6) s, P=0.003], lower fluorescein staining score [0 (0, 1) vs 2 (1, 4), P<0.001], and higher goblet cell density at conjunctival fornix (27.2±7.6 vs 10.7±4.8, P<0.001). Additionally, compared with the model group, the conjunctiva of the treatment group expressed a significantly lower level of miRNA-744-5p (1.67±0.24 vs 2.63±0.58, P<0.001) and interleukin-6 [2.38 (1.84, 4.61) vs 4.82 (3.99, 6.36), P=0.022]. Meanwhile, the treatment group showed significantly increased level of 16∶1, Δ9 fatty acid [(10.31±1.00)% vs (3.87±0.45)%, P<0.001] and iso-18∶0 fatty acid [(7.09±0.93)% vs (2.44±0.70)%, P<0.001], but decreased level of iso-26∶0 fatty acid [(5.72±1.07)% vs (8.02±0.65)%, P<0.001] in the meibum compared with the model group. Conclusion: Androgen replacement therapy can alleviate dry eye signs in rabbits presented with combined androgen deficiency and MGD.

Abstract
A measurement of dielectron production in proton-proton (pp) collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC, is presented in this Letter. The data set was recorded with a reduced magnetic solenoid field. This enables the investigation of a kinematic domain at low dielectron (ee) invariant mass m_{ee} and pair transverse momentum p_{T,ee} that was previously inaccessible at the LHC. The cross section for dielectron production is studied as a function of m_{ee}, p_{T,ee}, and event multiplicity dN_{ch}/dη. The expected dielectron rate from hadron decays, called hadronic cocktail, utilizes a parametrization of the measured η/π^{0} ratio in pp and proton-nucleus collisions, assuming that this ratio shows no strong dependence on collision energy at low transverse momentum. Comparison of the measured dielectron yield to the hadronic cocktail at 0.15<m_{ee}<0.6 GeV/c^{2} and for p_{T,ee}<0.4 GeV/c indicates an enhancement of soft dielectrons, reminiscent of the "anomalous" soft-photon and soft-dilepton excess in hadron-hadron collisions reported by several experiments under different experimental conditions. The enhancement factor over the hadronic cocktail amounts to 1.61±0.13(stat)±0.17(syst,data)±0.34(syst,cocktail) in the ALICE acceptance. Acceptance-corrected excess spectra in m_{ee} and p_{T,ee} are extracted and compared with calculations of dielectron production from hadronic bremsstrahlung and thermal radiation within a hadronic many-body approach.

Hepatic epithelioid hemangio-endothelioma (EHE) is a rare, often misdiagnosed malignancy of vascular origin. We describe a case of a 36-year-old, who presented with a burning sensation in his chest on exercise and was believed to have bilobar intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. After receiving chemotherapy with partial response, the patient underwent staged resection modified ALPPS (associating liver partition with portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy) procedure – laparoscopic radiofrequency assisted ALPPS (RALPPS). Histological examination of the stage 1 specimen revealed EHE deposits in the left lobe of the liver. The patient proceeded to have stage 2 open right hepatectomy with concurring histology. 90-days follow-up CT scan showed almost complete resolution of EHE lesions.
Low incidence, non-specific clinical and radiological characteristics all contribute to high EHE misdiagnosis rate. Histological analysis can be used for confirmation of the diagnosis; however, specialist staining is required, which is not routinely performed. Multiple treatments are available against EHE, but only liver resection and liver transplantation are potentially curative. ALPPS and its modifications (such as RALPPS) offer an alternative for conventional two-stage hepatectomy for patients with extensive bilobar EHE, who are at risk of developing post-hepatectomy liver failure or patients with anomalous hepatic vasculature anatomy, which makes PVE challenging.

Abstract
The elliptic flow of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity (|y|<0.8) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The azimuthal distribution of the particles produced in the collisions can be parametrized with a Fourier expansion, in which the second harmonic coefficient represents the elliptic flow, v_{2}. The v_{2} coefficient of electrons from beauty hadron decays is measured for the first time in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) range 1.3-6 GeV/c in the centrality class 30%-50%. The measurement of electrons from beauty-hadron decays exploits their larger mean proper decay length cτ≈500 μm compared to that of charm hadrons and most of the other background sources. The v_{2} of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity is found to be positive with a significance of 3.75 σ. The results provide insights into the degree of thermalization of beauty quarks in the medium. A model assuming full thermalization of beauty quarks is strongly disfavored by the measurement at high p_{T}, but is in agreement with the results at low p_{T}. Transport models including substantial interactions of beauty quarks with an expanding strongly interacting medium describe the measurement within uncertainties.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Recent studies have corroborated that circular RNAs (circRNAs) as endogenous noncoding RNAs gain research interest in carcinogenesis, functioning as prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The present study is aimed to determine whether circRNAs could serve as prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers to predict thyroid carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS High-throughput sequencing analysis was conducted to detect circRNAs expression profile in thyroid cancer. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) measurement was utilized to validate circRNAs expression in blood and tissue specimens. Kaplan-Meier method and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the area under the ROC curve (AUC) were used to assess whether circRNAs could function as prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers of thyroid cancer, respectively. RESULTS Hsa_circ_0124055 and hsa_circ_0101622 as the most conspicuous biomarkers were significantly increased in tumor tissues and plasma of thyroid cancer patients. High hsa_circ_0124055 or hsa_circ_0101622 expression exhibited shorter overall survival. Our findings also provided strong evidence that plasma hsa_circ_0124055 (AUC = 0.836, 95% CI: 0.763-0.908, p<0.001) and hsa_circ_0101622 (AUC = 0.805, 95% CI: 0.727-0.883, p<0.001) could be used as diagnostic markers for thyroid cancer, and hsa_circ_0124055 combined with hsa_circ_0101622 could provide a more powerful diagnostic value (AUC = 0.911, 95% CI: 0.859-0.962, p<0.001) than the use of hsa_circ_0124055 or hsa_circ_0101622 alone. Furthermore, the knockdown of hsa_circ_0124055 or hsa_circ_0101622 exhibited a significant anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic activity of thyroid cancer cells in vivo and in vitro. CONCLUSIONS Both hsa_circ_0124055 and hsa_circ_0101622 could facilitate the prognosis and diagnosis of thyroid cancer, and function as the therapeutic targets for clinical practice.

Abstract
The etiology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) involves complex interaction of genetic and environmental factors. A large number of observational studies have shown that hypothyroidism contributes to a high risk of NAFLD. However, the exact causality is still unknown. Due to the progress of genome-wide association study (GWAS) and the discovery of Mendelian randomization (MR), it is possible to explore the causality between the two diseases. In this study, in order to research into the influence of intermediate phenotypes on outcome, nine independent genetic variants of hypothyroidism obtained from the GWAS were used as instrumental variables (IVs) to perform MR analysis on NAFLD. Since there was no heterogeneity between IVs (P = 0.70), a fixed-effects model was used. The correlation between hypothyroidism and NAFLD was evaluated by using inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method and weighted median method. Then the sensitivity test was analyzed. The results showed that there was a high OR (1.7578; 95%CI 1.1897–2.5970; P = 0.0046) and a low intercept (−0.095; P = 0.431). None of the genetic variants drove the overall result (P < 0.01). Simply, we proved for the first time that the risk of NAFLD increases significantly on patients with hypothyroidism. Furthermore, we explained possible causes of NAFLD caused by hypothyroidism.
