Abstract
Phosphorene is a unique semiconducting two-dimensional platform for enabling spintronic devices integrated with phosphorene nanoelectronics. Here, we have designed an all phosphorene lattice lateral spin valve device, conceived via patterned magnetic substituted atoms of 3d-block elements at both ends of a phosphorene nanoribbon acting as ferromagnetic electrodes in the spin valve. Through First-principles based calculations, we have extensively studied the spin-dependent transport characteristics of the new spin valve structures. Systematic exploration of the magnetoresistance (MR) of the spin valve for various substitutional atoms and bias voltage resulted in a phase diagram offering a colossal MR for V and Cr-substitutional atoms. Such MR can be directly attributed to their specific electronic structure, which can be further tuned by a gate voltage, for electric field controlled spin valves. The spin-dependent transport characteristics here reveal new features such as negative conductance oscillation and switching of the sign of MR due to change in the majority spin carrier type. Our study creates possibilities for the design of nanometric spin valves, which could enable integration of memory and logic elements for all phosphorene 2D processors.

Abstract
Transition metal oxides (TMO) are the preferred materials for metal ion battery cathodes because of their high redox potentials and good metal-ion intercalation capacity, which serve as an outstanding replacement for layered sulphide. In this work, using first-principles calculations based on Density functional theory approach, we explored the structural and electronic properties which comprise of adsorption and diffusion behaviour along with the analysis of voltage profile and storage capacity of Ru doped two-dimensional transition metal oxide [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] monolayers. The adsorption of alkali ions (Li, Na) to the surface of TMOs is strengthened by Ru-atom doping. Ru doping enhanced the adsorption energy of Li/Na-ion by 25%/11% for [Formula: see text], 8%/13% for [Formula: see text], and 10%/11% [Formula: see text] respectively. The open circuit voltage (OCV) also increases due to the high adsorption capacity of doped Monolayers. Ru doping makes the semiconducting TMOs conduct, which is suitable for battery application. As alkali ion moves closer to the dopant site, the adsorption energy increases. When alkali ions are close to the vicinity of doping site, their diffusion barrier decrease and rises as they go further away. Our current findings will be useful in finding ways to improve the storage performance of 2D oxide materials for application in energy harvesting and green energy architecture.

Abstract
Semiconductors with controllable electronic transport coupled with magnetic behaviour, offering programmable spin arrangements present enticing potential for next generation intelligent technologies. Integrating and linking these two properties has been a long standing challenge for material researchers. Recent discoveries in two-dimensional (2D) magnet shows an ability to tune and control the electronic and magnetic phases at ambient temperature. Here, we illustrate controlled spin transport within the magnetic phase of the 2D semiconductor CrOBr and reveal a substantial connection between its magnetic order and charge carriers. First, we systematically analyse the strain-induced electronic behaviour of 2D CrOBr using density functional theory calculations. Our study demonstrates the phase transition from a magnetic semiconductor → half metal → magnetic metal in the material under strain application, creating intriguing spin-resolved conductance with 100% spin polarisation and spin-injection efficiency. Additionally, the spin-polarised current-voltage (I-V) trend displayed conductance variations with high strain-assisted tunability and a peak-to-valley ratio as well as switching efficiency. Our study reveals that CrOBr can exhibit highly anisotropic behaviour with perfect spin filtering, offering new implications for strain engineered magneto-electronic devices.

Abstract
We report a measurement of the CP-violating parameters C and S in B^{0}→K_{S}^{0}π^{0} decays at Belle II using a sample of 387×10^{6} BB[over ¯] events recorded in e^{+}e^{-} collisions at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the ϒ(4S) resonance. These parameters are determined by fitting the proper decay-time distribution of a sample of 415 signal events. We obtain C=-0.04_{-0.15}^{+0.14}±0.05 and S=0.75_{-0.23}^{+0.20}±0.04, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic.

Abstract
Atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) Janus materials and their Van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) have emerged as a new class of intriguing semiconductor materials due to their versatile application in electronic and optoelectronic devices. Herein, We have invstigated most probable arrangements of different inhomogeneous heterostructures employing one layer of transition metal dichalcogenide, TMD (MoS2, WS2, MoSe2, and WSe2) piled on the top of Janus TMD (MoSeTe or WSeTe) and investigated their structural, electronic as well as optical properties through first-principles based calculations. After that, we applied twist engineering between the monolayers from 0[Formula: see text] 60[Formula: see text] twist angle, which delivers lattice reconstruction and improves the performance of the vdWHs due to interlayer coupling. The result reveals that all the proposed vdWHs are dynamically and thermodynamically stable. Some vdWHs such as MoS2/MoSeTe, WS2/WSeTe, MoS2/WSeTe, MoSe2/MoSeTe, and WS2/MoSeTe exhibit direct bandgap with type-II band alignment at some specific twist angle, which shows potential for future photovoltaic devices. Moreover, the electronic property and carrier mobility can be effectively tuned in the vdWHs compared to the respective monolayers. Furthermore, the visible optical absorption of all the Janus vdWHs at [Formula: see text] = 0[Formula: see text] can be significantly enhanced due to the weak inter-layer coupling and redistribution of the charges. Therefore, the interlayer twisting not only provides an opportunity to observe new exciting properties but also gives a novel route to modulate the electronic and optoelectronic properties of the heterostructure for practical applications.

Abstract
Introduction: Polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are considered as redox active environmental toxicants inducing oxidative stress (OS) mediated injury to cells. Oxidative predominance is reported in 30%-80% of idiopathic male infertility (IMI) patients. Hence, this work aims to unravel correlation, if any, between seminal PAH exposome and sperm function in IMI patients through a proteomic approach. Methods: Seminal PAH exposome was analyzed in 43 fertile donors and 60 IMI patients by HPLC and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was applied to find out the cut-off limits. Spermatozoa proteome was analyzed by label free liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC-MS/MS) followed by molecular pathway analysis using bioinformatic tools. Validation of key proteins' expression and protein oxidative modifications were analyzed by western blot. Results and discussion: Of the 16 standards toxic PAH, 13 were detected in semen. Impact of the different PAHs on fertility are Anthracene < benzo (a) pyrene < benzo [b] fluoranthene < Fluoranthene < benzo (a) anthracene <indol (123CD) pyrene < pyrene < naphthalene < dibenzo (AH) anthracene < fluorene < 2bromonaphthalene < chrysene < benzo (GH1) perylene as revealed by ROC Curve analysis (AUCROC). Benzo [a] pyrene is invariably present in all infertile patients while naphthalene is present in both groups. Of the total 773 detected proteins (Control: 631 and PAH: 717); 71 were differentially expressed (13 underexpressed, 58 overexpressed) in IMI patients. Enrichment analysis revealed them to be involved in mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative phosphorylation, DNA damage, Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) signaling, xenobiotic metabolism and induction of NRF-2 mediated OS response. Increased 4-hydroxynonenal and nitrosylated protein adduct formation, and declined antioxidant defense validates induction of OS. Increased GSH/GSSG ratio in patients may be an adaptive response for PAH metabolism via conjugation as evidenced by over-expression of AHR and Heat shock protein 90 beta (HSP90β) in patients. Seminal PAH concentrations, particularly benzo (a) pyrene can be used as a marker to distinguish IMI from fertile ones with 66.67% sensitivity and 100% specificity (95% confidence interval) along with oxidative protein modification and expression of AHR and HSP90β.

Abstract
PROBLEM Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is usually evaluated from a women's perspective, however, recent evidence implies involvement of male factors as paternally expressed genes predominate placenta. During fertilization, prior to implantation the immune system purposefully produces early pregnancy factors with potent immunomodulatory properties for adaptation to antigenically dissimilar embryo. Therefore, it is hypothesized that paternal immunological factors play a role in RPL. METHOD OF STUDY Comparative proteome profiling (label free liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy: LC-MS/MS) of the seminal extracellular vesicles (SEVs), extracellular vesicle free seminal plasma (EVF-SP) and spermatozoa was carried out in semen of RPL patients (n = 21) and fertile donors (n = 21). This was followed by pathway and protein-protein interaction analysis, and validation of key proteins' expression (western blot). RESULTS A total of 68, 28 and 49 differentially expressed proteins in SEVs, EVF-SP and spermatozoa of RPL patients, respectively, were found to be involved in inflammatory response, immune cell signalling and apoptosis. In SEVs, underexpressed GDF-15 and overexpressed C3 imply distorted maternal immune response to paternal antigens leading to impaired decidualization. Dysregulated TGFβ signalling in EVF-SP surmises defective modulation of inflammatory response and induction of immune tolerance to seminal antigens in the female reproductive tract through generation of regulatory T cells. Retained histone variants in spermatozoa construe defective expression of early paternal genes, while underexpressed PTN may inflict defective angiogenesis resulting in expulsion of decidua. CONCLUSIONS Impaired modulation of immune response and improper placental development due to altered cytokine levels in seminal components may be the contributing paternal factors in RPL.

Abstract
Bi-directional crosstalk between Ca2+ signaling and ROS modulates physiological processes as a part of a regulatory circuit including sperm function. The role of transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) in this regard cannot be undermined. This is the first report demonstrating the Ca2+-sensitive TRPV1 channel to be under-expressed in spermatozoa of subfertile men, idiopathic infertile men, and normozoospermic infertile males with high ROS (idiopathic infertility and unilateral varicocele). To study the effect of TRPV1 in determining the fertility outcome, we compared the expression profile of TRPV1 in spermatozoa of male partners who achieved pregnancy by natural conception (NC+, n = 10), IVF (IVF+, n = 23), or ICSI (ICSI +, n = 9) and their respective counterparts with failed pregnancy NC (n = 7), IVF (n = 23), or ICSI (n = 10), by both immunocytochemistry and flow-cytometry. Reduced expression of TRPV1 in sperm of IVF ± and ICSI ± men with respect to that NC+ men imply its role in mediating successful fertilization. Unsuccessful pregnancy outcome with an underexpression of TRPV1 in sperm of NC-/IVF-/ICSI-men suggests its role in conception and maintenance of pregnancy. Since ROS is regarded as one of the major contributors to sperm dysfunction, the effect of H2O2 +/- TRPV1 modulators (RTX/iRTX) on acrosomal reaction and calcium influx was evaluated to confirm TRPV1 as a redox sensor in human sperm. A significant increment in the percentage of acrosome reacted spermatozoa along with augmented Ca2+-influx was observed after H2O2 treatment, both in the presence or absence of TRPV1 agonist resiniferatoxin (RTX). The effect was attenuated by the TRPV1 antagonist iodoresiniferatoxin (iRTX), indicating the involvement of TRPV1 in mediating H2O2 response. Enhancement of motility and triggering of acrosomal reaction post TRPV1 activation suggested that disruption of these signaling cascades in vivo, possibly due to down-regulation of TRPV1 in these subfertile males. Bioinformatic analysis of the crosstalk between TRPV1 with fertility candidate proteins (reported to influence IVF outcome) revealed cell death and survival, cellular compromise, and embryonic development to be the primary networks affected by anomalous TRPV1 expression. We therefore postulate that TRPV1 can act as a redox sensor, and its expression in spermatozoa may serve as a fertility marker.

Abstract
Premature relativistic transparency of ultrathin, laser-irradiated targets is recognized as an obstacle to achieving a stable radiation pressure acceleration in the "light sail" (LS) mode. Experimental data, corroborated by 2D PIC simulations, show that a few-nm thick overcoat surface layer of high Z material significantly improves ion bunching at high energies during the acceleration. This is diagnosed by simultaneous ion and neutron spectroscopy following irradiation of deuterated plastic targets. In particular, copious and directional neutron production (significantly larger than for other in-target schemes) arises, under optimal parameters, as a signature of plasma layer integrity during the acceleration.

Abstract
Heat shock protein A2 (HSPA2) is a testis-specific molecular chaperone of the 70 kDa heat shock protein (HSP70) family and reported to play a key role in spermatogenesis as well as in the remodelling of the sperm surface during capacitation. It is established that mice lacking HSPA2 gene are infertile and spermatozoa that fail to interact with the zona pellucida of the oocyte consistently lack HSPA2 protein expression. However, its role in post fertilization events is not fully understood. Owing to the importance of HSPA2 in male reproduction, the present study is undertaken to reveal the association between genetic mutation and phenotypic variation in recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) patients through an in silico prediction analysis. In this study, we used different computational tools and servers such as SIFT, PolyPhen2, PROVEAN, nsSNPAnalyzer, and SNPs & GO to analyse the functional consequences of the nsSNPs in human HSPA2 gene. The most damaging amino acid variants generated were subjected to I-Mutant 2.0 and ConSurf. Post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation mediated by these deleterious nsSNPs were analysed using NetPhos 2.0, and gene-gene interaction study was conducted using GeneMANIA. Finally, in-depth studies of the nsSNPs were studied through Project HOPE. The findings of the study revealed 18 nsSNPs to be deleterious using a combinatorial bioinformatic approach. Further functional analysis suggests that screening of nsSNP variants of HSPA2 that tend to be conserved and has potential to undergo phosphorylation at critical positions (rs764410231, rs200951589, rs756852956) may be useful for predicting outcome in altered reproductive outcome. The physicochemical alterations and its impact on the structural and functional conformity were determined by Project HOPE. Gene-gene interaction depicts its close association with antioxidant enzyme (SOD1) strongly supporting an inefficient oxidative scavenging regulatory mechanism in the spermatozoa of RPL patients as reported earlier. The present study has thus identified high-risk deleterious nsSNPs of HSPA2 gene and would be beneficial in the diagnosis and prognosis of the paternal effects in RPL patients.

Abstract
The study of nuclei and antinuclei production has proven to be a powerful tool to investigate the formation mechanism of loosely bound states in high-energy hadronic collisions. The first measurement of the production of _{Λ}^{3}H in p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV is presented in this Letter. Its production yield measured in the rapidity interval -1<y<0 for the 40% highest-multiplicity p-Pb collisions is dN/dy=[6.3±1.8(stat)±1.2(syst)]×10^{-7}. The measurement is compared with the expectations of statistical hadronization and coalescence models, which describe the nucleosynthesis in hadronic collisions. These two models predict very different yields of the hypertriton in charged particle multiplicity environments relevant to small collision systems such as p-Pb, and therefore the measurement of dN/dy is crucial to distinguish between them. The precision of this measurement leads to the exclusion with a significance larger than 6.9σ of some configurations of the statistical hadronization model, thus constraining the theory behind the production of loosely bound states at hadron colliders.

Abstract
Image plates (IPs) are a popular detector in the field of laser driven ion acceleration, owing to their high dynamic range and reusability. An absolute calibration of these detectors to laser-driven protons in the routinely produced tens of MeV energy range is, therefore, essential. In this paper, the response of Fujifilm BAS-TR IPs to 1-40 MeV protons is calibrated by employing the detectors in high resolution Thomson parabola spectrometers in conjunction with a CR-39 nuclear track detector to determine absolute proton numbers. While CR-39 was placed in front of the image plate for lower energy protons, it was placed behind the image plate for energies above 10 MeV using suitable metal filters sandwiched between the image plate and CR-39 to select specific energies. The measured response agrees well with previously reported calibrations as well as standard models of IP response, providing, for the first time, an absolute calibration over a large range of proton energies of relevance to current experiments.

Abstract
The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak is posing a serious public health threat worldwide in the form of COVD-19. Herein, we have performed two-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (2D-QSAR) and three-dimensional pharmacophore modelling analysis employing inhibitors of 3-chymotrypsin-like protease (3CLpro), the leading protease that is crucial for the replication of SARS-CoV-2. The investigation aims to identify the important structural features responsible for the enzyme inhibition and the search for novel 3CLpro enzyme inhibitors as effective therapeutics for treating SARS-CoV-2. Furthermore, we carried out molecular docking studies using the most and least active compounds in the dataset, aiming to validate the contributions of various features as appeared in the QSAR models. Later, the stringently validated 2D-QSAR model was used to estimate the 3CLpro inhibitory activity of compounds from five chemical databases. Compounds with the significant predicted activity were then subjected to pharmacophore-based virtual screening to screen the top-rated compounds, which were then further subjected to molecular docking analysis, absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion - toxicity (ADMET) profiling, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The multi-step virtual screening analyses suggested that compounds CASAntiV-865453-58-3, CASAntiV-865453-40-3, and CASAntiV-2043031-84-9 could be used as effective therapeutic agents for the treatment of SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
The polarization of the Λ and Λ[over ¯] hyperons along the beam (z) direction, P_{z}, has been measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV recorded with ALICE at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The main contribution to P_{z} comes from elliptic flow-induced vorticity and can be characterized by the second Fourier sine coefficient P_{z,s2}=⟨P_{z}sin(2φ-2Ψ_{2})⟩, where φ is the hyperon azimuthal emission angle and Ψ_{2} is the elliptic flow plane angle. We report the measurement of P_{z,s2} for different collision centralities and in the 30%-50% centrality interval as a function of the hyperon transverse momentum and rapidity. The P_{z,s2} is positive similarly as measured by the STAR Collaboration in Au-Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV, with somewhat smaller amplitude in the semicentral collisions. This is the first experimental evidence of a nonzero hyperon P_{z} in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. The comparison of the measured P_{z,s2} with the hydrodynamic model calculations shows sensitivity to the competing contributions from thermal and the recently found shear-induced vorticity, as well as to whether the polarization is acquired at the quark-gluon plasma or the hadronic phase.

Abstract
This article presents groomed jet substructure measurements in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector. The soft drop grooming algorithm provides access to the hard parton splittings inside a jet by removing soft wide-angle radiation. We report the groomed jet momentum splitting fraction, z_{g}, and the (scaled) groomed jet radius, θ_{g}. Charged-particle jets are reconstructed at midrapidity using the anti-k_{T} algorithm with resolution parameters R=0.2 and R=0.4. In heavy-ion collisions, the large underlying event poses a challenge for the reconstruction of groomed jet observables, since fluctuations in the background can cause groomed parton splittings to be misidentified. By using strong grooming conditions to reduce this background, we report these observables fully corrected for detector effects and background fluctuations for the first time. A narrowing of the θ_{g} distribution in Pb-Pb collisions compared to pp collisions is seen, which provides direct evidence of the modification of the angular structure of jets in the quark-gluon plasma. No significant modification of the z_{g} distribution in Pb-Pb collisions compared to pp collisions is observed. These results are compared with a variety of theoretical models of jet quenching, and provide constraints on jet energy-loss mechanisms and coherence effects in the quark-gluon plasma.

Abstract
PurposeThe main objective of this paper is to present a holistic approach for measuring overall bank efficiency and its decomposition in intermediation and profitability efficiencies.Design/methodology/approachTwo-stage network data envelopment analysis (NDEA) model has been used for obtaining intermediation and profitability efficiencies along with overall bank efficiency. Additionally, bootstrap truncated regression has also been adopted to explore the influential predictors of two stages.FindingsA comparative analysis between Indian private-sector and public-sector banks showed that the former is efficient than the latter in profitability efficiency stage. Another interesting finding is that none of the banks is efficient in overall study tenure. Finally, outcomes of bootstrap truncated regression show that differences in intermediation efficiency are explained by firm size, return on asset, market share and ownership while profitability stage is determined by diverse, gross domestic product and ownership.Research limitations/implicationsThis study will guide the Indian banking sector to act on which they are lagging, for the betterment of their overall performances. Finally, parameters like loan waives and disposal income of non-performing assets (NPAs) are not considered because of the unavailability of information in the output measures of NDEA model.Originality/valueThis paper not only provides a detailed performance assessment of Indian banks but also examines banks’ internal efficiency by deposits as an intermediary measure.

Abstract
The response of the BAS-TR image plate (IP) was absolutely calibrated using a CR-39 track detector for high linear energy transfer Au ions up to ∼1.6 GeV (8.2 MeV/nucleon), accelerated by high-power lasers. The calibration was carried out by employing a high-resolution Thomson parabola spectrometer, which allowed resolving Au ions with closely spaced ionization states up to 58+. A response function was obtained by fitting the photo-stimulated luminescence per Au ion for different ion energies, which is broadly in agreement with that expected from ion stopping in the active layer of the IP. This calibration would allow quantifying the ion energy spectra for high energy Au ions, which is important for further investigation of the laser-based acceleration of heavy ion beams.

Cardiovascular Outcomes Assessment of the MitraClip Percutaneous Therapy for Heart Failure Patients with Functional Mitral Regurgitation (COAPT)
Background
Prior studies suggest tricuspid regurgitation (TR) diminishes/resolves following mitral valve surgery and thus do not require treatment and may not influence outcomes.
Purpose
We sought to evaluate the change in TR (ΔTR) and its association with outcomes after transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) compared with guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) in the COAPT trial.
Methods
Patients from the COAPT trial with echo core lab TR assessment at baseline and 30-day follow-up (n = 504) were included and divided into 2 groups: those whose TR worsened (ΔTR-INC) and those with no change or improvement in TR (ΔTR-SAME/DEC). Two-year composite endpoints of death or heart failure hospitalization (HFH) and the individual components were analyzed, after excluding events occurring within the first 30 days.
Results
ΔTR-SAME/DEC occurred in 430 pts (228 TEER, 202 GDMT) while ΔTR-INC was noted in 74 pts (38 TEER, 36 GDMT) (Figure 1A). From 30 days to 2 years, ΔTR-INC pts had a higher rate of the composite outcome of death or HFH compared with ΔTR-SAME/DEC (p = 0.006, Figure 1B). Both 2-year death (HR 1.52, 95% CI 1.01-2.27; p = 0.04) and HFH (HR 1.52, 95% CI 1.04-2.22; p = 0.03) were associated with ΔTR-INC. Assessed by treatment group (Figure 1C and 1D), the relationship between ΔTR-INC and composite death or HFH was significant in GDMT alone pts (HR 1.86, 95% CI 1.21-2.86) but not in TEER pts (HR 1.33, 95% CI 0.79-2.23), although interaction testing demonstrated consistency between the two treatments (Pint = 0.31).
Conclusions
Worsening TR at 30 days occurred in ∼15% of pts in the COAPT trial whether they were treated with TEER or GDMT alone. DTRINC was associated with increased death and HFH during 2-year follow-up. Abstract Figure 1

Abstract
The p_{T}-differential production cross sections of prompt D^{0}, Λ_{c}^{+}, and Σ_{c}^{0,++}(2455) charmed hadrons are measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. This is the first measurement of Σ_{c}^{0,++} production in hadronic collisions. Assuming the same production yield for the three Σ_{c}^{0,+,++} isospin states, the baryon-to-meson cross section ratios Σ_{c}^{0,+,++}/D^{0} and Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} are calculated in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) intervals 2<p_{T}<12 and 1<p_{T}<24 GeV/c. Values significantly larger than in e^{+}e^{-} collisions are observed, indicating for the first time that baryon enhancement in hadronic collisions also extends to the Σ_{c}. The feed-down contribution to Λ_{c}^{+} production from Σ_{c}^{0,+,++} is also reported and is found to be larger than in e^{+}e^{-} collisions. The data are compared with predictions from event generators and other phenomenological models, providing a sensitive test of the different charm-hadronization mechanisms implemented in the models.

Abstract
Severe Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a multi-systemic disease which presents with respiratory, gastrointestinal or musculoskeletal symptoms. Patients also display myriad post-COVID19 symptoms which range from myalgia to depression. We present case series of unusual and unreported post-COVID19 feature in nine cases who had recovered completely but developed pedal oedema which could not be attributed to any other organic cause. These COVID-19 cases were examined in out-patient department for various post-COVID-19 symptoms at tertiary care centers in North India and Bangladesh from July 2020 to February 2021. Ethical clearance was taken and consent obtained from each patient included in this case series.

Abstract
The p_{T}-differential cross sections of prompt charm-strange baryons Ξ_{c}^{0} and Ξ_{c}^{+} were measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in proton-proton (pp) collisions at a center-of-mass energy sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The Ξ_{c}^{0} baryon was reconstructed via both the semileptonic decay (Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e}) and the hadronic decay (Ξ^{-}π^{+}) channels. The Ξ_{c}^{+} baryon was reconstructed via the hadronic decay (Ξ^{-}π^{+}π^{+}) channel. The branching-fraction ratio BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}e^{+}ν_{e})/BR(Ξ_{c}^{0}→Ξ^{-}π^{+})=1.38±0.14(stat)±0.22(syst) was measured with a total uncertainty reduced by a factor of about 3 with respect to the current world average reported by the Particle Data Group. The transverse momentum (p_{T}) dependence of the Ξ_{c}^{0}- and Ξ_{c}^{+}-baryon production relative to the D^{0} meson and to the Σ_{c}^{0,+,++}- and Λ_{c}^{+}-baryon production are reported. The baryon-to-meson ratio increases toward low p_{T} up to a value of approximately 0.3. The measurements are compared with various models that take different hadronization mechanisms into consideration. The results provide stringent constraints to these theoretical calculations and additional evidence that different processes are involved in charm hadronization in electron-positron (e^{+}e^{-}) and hadronic collisions.

Abstract
The prompt production of the charm baryon Λ_{c}^{+} and the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} production ratios were measured at midrapidity with the ALICE detector in pp and p-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. These new measurements show a clear decrease of the Λ_{c}^{+}/D^{0} ratio with increasing transverse momentum (p_{T}) in both collision systems in the range 2<p_{T}<12 GeV/c, exhibiting similarities with the light-flavor baryon-to-meson ratios p/π and Λ/K_{S}^{0}. At low p_{T}, predictions that include additional color-reconnection mechanisms beyond the leading-color approximation, assume the existence of additional higher-mass charm-baryon states, or include hadronization via coalescence can describe the data, while predictions driven by charm-quark fragmentation processes measured in e^{+}e^{-} and e^{-}p collisions significantly underestimate the data. The results presented in this Letter provide significant evidence that the established assumption of universality (colliding-system independence) of parton-to-hadron fragmentation is not sufficient to describe charm-baryon production in hadronic collisions at LHC energies.

Abstract
We report on the selective acceleration of carbon ions during the interaction of ultrashort, circularly polarized and contrast-enhanced laser pulses, at a peak intensity of 5.5×10^{20} W/cm^{2}, with ultrathin carbon foils. Under optimized conditions, energies per nucleon of the bulk carbon ions reached significantly higher values than the energies of contaminant protons (33 MeV/nucleon vs 18 MeV), unlike what is typically observed in laser-foil acceleration experiments. Experimental data, and supporting simulations, emphasize different dominant acceleration mechanisms for the two ion species and highlight an (intensity dependent) optimum thickness for radiation pressure acceleration; it is suggested that the preceding laser energy reaching the target before the main pulse arrives plays a key role in a preferential acceleration of the heavier ion species.

Abstract
This Letter presents the first experimental evidence of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a ϕ meson. The result is obtained from two-particle correlations of combined p-ϕ⊕ p[over ¯]-ϕ pairs measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The spin-averaged scattering length and effective range of the p-ϕ interaction are extracted from the fully corrected correlation function employing the Lednický-Lyuboshits approach. In particular, the imaginary part of the scattering length vanishes within uncertainties, indicating that inelastic processes do not play a prominent role for the p-ϕ interaction. These data demonstrate that the interaction is dominated by elastic p-ϕ scattering. Furthermore, an analysis employing phenomenological Gaussian- and Yukawa-type potentials is conducted. Under the assumption of the latter, the N-ϕ coupling constant is found to be g_{N-ϕ}=0.14±0.03(stat)±0.02(syst). This work provides valuable experimental input to accomplish a self-consistent description of the N-ϕ interaction, which is particularly relevant for the more fundamental studies on partial restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear medium.

Background
Our knowledge regarding the risk of cerebrovascular events (CVE) in patients with heart failure (HF) and severe secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR) treated by transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) is limited.
Purpose
To examine the incidence, predictors, timing, and prognostic impact of CVE in patients with heart failure and SMR treated with TMVr vs guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) alone.
Methods
In the COAPT trial, 614 patients with HF with moderate-to-severe or severe SMR were randomized to TMVr with the MitraClip + GDMT vs GDMT alone. After 2 years, patients who were randomized to GDMT alone could crossover and undergo TMVr. CVE (defined as stroke or TIA) were adjudicated by an independent clinical events committee.
Results
A total of 43 CVE occurred in 42 patients within 3-year follow-up (34 strokes and 9 TIAs; 1 patient had both). CVE occurred in 10.0% (n=20) of patients randomized to TMVR and 11.3% (n=22) of patients randomized to GDMT alone (p=0.53) (Figure). Of the 22 CVE in the GDMT alone group, 3 occurred after the patient had crossed over to TMVr. The incidence rates in the TMVr and GDMT groups were similar within the first 3 months (incidence rate ratio [IRR] 0.78, 95% CI 0.17–3.48, p=0.74) and between 3 months and 3 years (IRR 0.83, 95% CI 0.43–1.60, p=0.58) after randomization. After multivariable adjustment, baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was associated with CVE in the overall population (HR per 5 ml/min increase in eGFR 0.91, 95% CI 0.84–0.99, p=0.03). Peripheral vascular disease was associated with CVE in patients treated by GDMT (HR=3.21, 95% CI [1.35, 7.67]) but not TMVr (HR 0.53 95% CI 0.12–2.24; p-interaction=0.04). In contrast, baseline chronic oral anticoagulation use was associated with a reduced risk of CVE in patients in the TMVr group (HR 0.18, 95% CI 0.05–0.63) but not in the GDMT alone group (HR 1.66, 95% CI 0.70–3.94; p-interaction=0.004). In a time-adjusted multivariable analysis, CVE was associated with a higher risk of death (HR 2.51, 95% CI 1.54–4.08; p=0.0002), a risk that was marked in the first 30 days after the event (HR 14.21, 95% CI 7.30–27.97, p<0.0001), and declined thereafter (HR 1.37, 95% CI 0.72–2.59, p=0.34).
Conclusions
In patients with HF and severe SMR, CVE at 3 years was not infrequent, increased linearly over time, was similar after treatment with the MitraClip and GDMT alone, and was associated with a marked increase in all-cause death. Whether anticoagulation is especially effective at preventing CVE in patients treated by TMVr, as suggested by this report, warrants further study.

Abstract
Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) is rapidly released by renal tubules after injury, potentially allowing early identification of acute kidney injury (AKI) after cardiac surgery. However, the diagnostic performance of NGAL has varied widely in clinical studies and it remains unknown what factors modify the relationship between NGAL and AKI. The main objective of the study was to determine the efficacy of NGAL in early detection of AKI among the CABG patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). This prospective observational study was conducted in the Department of Nephrology, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka, Bangladesh in collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry, BSMMU among 42 patients admitted into the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital and Research Institute, Dhaka Bangladesh from July 2014 to June 2015. For the measurement of NGAL, urine samples were obtained before surgery and 6 hours after commencement of CPB. Serum creatinine was measured preoperatively and 6, 24 and 48 hours postoperatively. Increase in the serum creatinine level at 6, 24 and 48 hours after surgery was used to analyze the diagnostic value of urinary NGAL. In this study 42 CABG patients with no known renal insufficiency planned to have CPB were included. Receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) was constructed by using NGAL, which gave a cut off value of ≥185.90ng/ml. Eight patients were AKI positive among them 6(75.0%) patients were NGAL positive and 2(25.0%) were NGAL negative. Diagnosis of AKI was delayed by 24-48 hours by serum creatinine measurement. This study has demonstrated that level of urinary NGAL concentration at 6 hours post CPB increased before the increase of serum creatinine level and NGAL is an early predictor of AKI in adult cardiac surgical patients. The early detection of renal injury by NGAL may allow earlier intervention in patients with high risk for AKI.

Abstract
Introduction: Blood group antigens and body mass index of human are gaining importance for many diseases. Some attempts were reported to find any relationship between BMI and Blood groups with some contradictions. The possible association between BMI and blood groups of Nepalese and Indian medical students is yet to be established.
Methods: Blood groups, ABO and Rh systems and body mass index (BMI) of participants, medical students of Nepalese and Indian origin were determined and analyzed statistically.
Results: The distribution frequencies of 10.56%, 17.08%, 3.06%, and 20.28% females and 9.03%, 16.39%, 3.61% and 20.0% males of both the countries were present in A, B, AB and O blood groups, respectively. Rh-negative participants were predominantly present in O blood group. The observed frequencies of participants with different BMI group were distributed as 56.11%, 24.72%, 10.69% and 8.47% in Normal, Overweight, Underweight and Obese groups, respectively. Underweight participants were prevalent in O group and in females. The difference between the distribution of Nepalese females and males with Normal BMI was found significant in A and O. A distribution pattern of B>O>A>AB was observed for Overweight group. The occurrence of Obese is few folds higher among Indian participants than Nepalese and prevalent in males. Obese participants were found more associated with B and O blood group.
Conclusions: Participants with A were more prevalent among Nepalese in respect to Indian. Rh-negative participants were distributed as 1.67% and 5.0% in Nepalese and Indians, respectively and predominantly present in O (4.44%) and are more prevalent in Indian males. In Normal BMI Nepalese were significantly more as compared to Indians. In the Underweight group females were significantly more prevalent as compared to males and found maximally associated with O blood group and most of them are Nepalese. In Overweight group males were more than females. Participants with obesity were mostly present in B and O blood group and most of them are Indian.

Abstract
Laser-driven ion acceleration has attracted global interest for its potential towards the development of a new generation of compact, low-cost accelerators. Remarkable advances have been seen in recent years with a substantial proton energy increase in experiments, when nanometer-scale ultrathin foil targets and high-contrast intense lasers are applied. However, the exact acceleration dynamics and particularly the ion energy scaling laws in this novel regime are complex and still unclear. Here, we derive a scaling law for the attainable maximum ion energy from such laser-irradiated nanometer-scale foils based on analytical theory and multidimensional particle-in-cell simulations, and further show that this scaling law can be used to accurately describe experimental data over a large range of laser and target parameters on different facilities. This provides crucial references for parameter design and experimentation of the future laser devices towards various potential applications.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To describe clinical and demographic characteristics, ultrasound appearance, and hysteroscopic outcomes of patients with endometrial osseous metaplasia. STUDY DESIGN We conducted a multicenter retrospective study. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all consecutive patients who were referred for hysteroscopy at fourteen institutions in Venezuela, Spain, Morocco, India, Ukraine, Argentina, the United States, and Italy between 1994 and 2018. We identified and included all patients who had a diagnosis of osseous metaplasia at the pathologic report, and data were retrieved from the medical records. RESULTS Between January 1st, 1994, and December 31st, 2018, 63 patients out of a total of 419,673 women who underwent hysteroscopy had a diagnosis of osseous metaplasia (0.015%). Most patients were 31-40 years old (53.7%), were Caucasian or Hispanic (95.5%), and had at least one previous pregnancy (86.9%). Forty-one out of 63 patients (65.1%) had at least one miscarriage before the index hysteroscopy. Dysmenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding, and infertility were reported by 34.9%, 27.0%, and 23.8% of patients. 14.3% of women were asymptomatic. Preoperative transvaginal ultrasound was available and identified a hyperechoic area of variable size with posterior acoustic shadowing in all cases. Hysteroscopy was successful without complications in all 63 cases. Follow-up data were available in 30.2% of patients: 69.2% of patients were infertile, and 44.4% of them conceived and achieved a live birth; all other symptoms improved after hysteroscopic treatment in all patients. CONCLUSIONS Osseous metaplasia appears associated with multiple unspecific gynecologic symptoms without the predominant role of infertility, as previously suggested. Although endometrial osseous metaplasia is rare, gynecologists should consider this pathologic condition when the characteristic ultrasound appearance is detected, being hysteroscopic treatment effective.

Abstract
The event-by-event correlations between three flow amplitudes are measured for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, using higher-order symmetric cumulants. We find that different three-harmonic correlations develop during the collective evolution of the medium when compared to correlations that exist in the initial state. These new results cannot be interpreted in terms of previous lower-order flow measurements since contributions from two-harmonic correlations are explicitly removed in the new observables. A comparison to Monte Carlo simulations provides new and independent constraints for the initial conditions and system properties of nuclear matter created in heavy-ion collisions.

Abstract
A measurement of dielectron production in proton-proton (pp) collisions at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC, is presented in this Letter. The data set was recorded with a reduced magnetic solenoid field. This enables the investigation of a kinematic domain at low dielectron (ee) invariant mass m_{ee} and pair transverse momentum p_{T,ee} that was previously inaccessible at the LHC. The cross section for dielectron production is studied as a function of m_{ee}, p_{T,ee}, and event multiplicity dN_{ch}/dη. The expected dielectron rate from hadron decays, called hadronic cocktail, utilizes a parametrization of the measured η/π^{0} ratio in pp and proton-nucleus collisions, assuming that this ratio shows no strong dependence on collision energy at low transverse momentum. Comparison of the measured dielectron yield to the hadronic cocktail at 0.15<m_{ee}<0.6 GeV/c^{2} and for p_{T,ee}<0.4 GeV/c indicates an enhancement of soft dielectrons, reminiscent of the "anomalous" soft-photon and soft-dilepton excess in hadron-hadron collisions reported by several experiments under different experimental conditions. The enhancement factor over the hadronic cocktail amounts to 1.61±0.13(stat)±0.17(syst,data)±0.34(syst,cocktail) in the ALICE acceptance. Acceptance-corrected excess spectra in m_{ee} and p_{T,ee} are extracted and compared with calculations of dielectron production from hadronic bremsstrahlung and thermal radiation within a hadronic many-body approach.

Abstract
The elliptic flow of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity (|y|<0.8) is measured in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The azimuthal distribution of the particles produced in the collisions can be parametrized with a Fourier expansion, in which the second harmonic coefficient represents the elliptic flow, v_{2}. The v_{2} coefficient of electrons from beauty hadron decays is measured for the first time in the transverse momentum (p_{T}) range 1.3-6 GeV/c in the centrality class 30%-50%. The measurement of electrons from beauty-hadron decays exploits their larger mean proper decay length cτ≈500 μm compared to that of charm hadrons and most of the other background sources. The v_{2} of electrons from beauty hadron decays at midrapidity is found to be positive with a significance of 3.75 σ. The results provide insights into the degree of thermalization of beauty quarks in the medium. A model assuming full thermalization of beauty quarks is strongly disfavored by the measurement at high p_{T}, but is in agreement with the results at low p_{T}. Transport models including substantial interactions of beauty quarks with an expanding strongly interacting medium describe the measurement within uncertainties.

Background
ReSPECT (Recommendation Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment) form was designed to communicate a personalized set of recommendations for a patient’s clinical care in an emergency situation and priorities over other aspects of future care. AIMS & OBJECTIVE 1)To measure ReSPECT Form completion rates at ICC and proportion of forms uploaded on the system and this compared with the published data 2 to improve performance where possible through QI process 3) Re-auditing after interventions.
Methods
All patients who attended the ICC from 1st October 2019 to 21st October 2019 were audited. Altogether 80 patients’ notes on system 1 and Lorenzo were reviewed. After initial results, interventions such as displaying the poster of salient results and recommendations in ICC clinic rooms, giving feedback to key team members were performed by the audit team.
Results
9 patients already had ReSPECT forms. From the remaining 71 patients, 57 discussions (80%) were taken place and 29 forms (41%) were completed while 28 were not for definite reasons. ReSPECT discussion was not initiated for recorded reasons in 9 cases and without reason in 5 cases. Out of 29 completed forms, 24(82%) were uploaded on the system. After the interventions, the re-audit cycle with 16 cases in which 13(94%) had ReSPECT discussions and 6 forms were completed.
Discussion
In comparison with NHS forth valley ReSPECT report, we had a better figure in completion forms (41% Vs 39%) and the number uploaded on system (82% vs 79%). After interventions, 81% had either ReSPECT forms completed or discussion which is much improved.
Conclusion
From this study, the overall improvement in performance was seen with simple interventions but further spot check QIPs and regular training sessions to team member will be essential for sustainability.

Abstract
Background: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a common occurrence that affects up to 15% of couples in their reproductive years. In both males and females with RPL and infertility, chromosomal abnormalities play a significant impact. Aim: The study was designed to examine the involvement of chromosomal anomalies and the frequency of certain chromosomal variants persistent among couples experiencing RPL. Setting and Design: This case–control study was conducted on 1000 couples from January 2015 to September 2020 in the state of Odisha, India, strictly adhering to principles of Helsinki Declaration (1975). The study was performed at the School of Biotechnology, KIIT University in collaboration with inDNA Life Sciences Private Limited. Materials and Methods: A cohort of 1148 individuals with a history of RPL were selected for the study and they were screened with respect to fertile controls for the presence of any chromosomal anomaly using G-banding, nucleolar organizing region (NOR)-banding and fluorescence in situ hybridisation wherever necessary. Statistical Analysis: The connection between distinct polymorphic variations and the occurrence of RPL was assessed using Fisher's exact test. Significant was defined as a P ≤ 0.005. Results: One hundred and thirty-four individuals were found to harbor chromosomal anomalies. This study elucidates that along with balanced chromosomal translocations, the involvement of polymorphic variants also plays a significant role in cases of RPL. Conclusion: The cumulative occurrence of chromosomal anomalies and variants across our cohort of 1148 individuals indicates that the chromosomal assessment of all couples experiencing RPL must be performed by all the clinicians. This study aids us in identifying chromosomal polymorphisms as major players of RPL in addition to novel chromosomal translocations.

Abstract
Recent evidence entail paternal factors as plausible contributors in spontaneous recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). Seminal extracellular vesicles secreted from cells of male reproductive tract carry regulatory proteins and RNAs. They are proposed to regulate sperm maturation and function while their fusion to endometrial stromal cells helps in decidualization. Nevertheless, the mechanism(s) involved in these processes are poorly understood. This study aims at elucidating the molecular basis of paternal contribution by comparative proteomics (label-free LC-MS/MS) of isolated seminal extracellular vesicles from fertile men and partners of patients with RPL (n = 21 per group). Bioinformatics analysis revealed the identified differentially expressed proteins to be involved in DNA replication, recombination and repair, gene expression, cellular assembly and organization, cell death, and survival. Major disease pathways affected were identified as developmental, hereditary, and immunological disorders. Of the three identified hub genes regulating the above disease pathways, two (HNRNPC and HNRNPU) are overexpressed while RUVBL1 is underexpressed along with over expression of HIST1H1C, DDX1, surmising defective chromatin packaging, and histone removal in spermatozoa resulting in improper expression in paternal genes thereby leading to abnormal embryo development. Besides, alteration in GSTP1 expression points oxidative predominance in RPL group. Differential expression of C3, C4a/C4b, CFB, and GDF 15 may be involved in altered maternal immune response to paternal antigens resulting in impaired decidualization.

Abstract
An analysis is made to illustrate the MagnetoHydroDynamics (MHD) flow and gradient heat transport of a Newtonian fluid over a stretching sheet embedded in a porous matrix. The governing nonlinear partial differential equations are reconstituted as ordinary differential equations utilizing suitable similarity transformation and then treated numerically using 4th order Runge-Kutta method along with shooting technique and analytically by Homotopy Perturbation Method. The verification of present study with earlier works serves as the benchmark of reliability of the present study. The important outcomes of this study are: porous parameter (Kp) acts as aiding force i.e when Kp is increased from 0.1 to 10 gradually there is a significant growth in velocity and after that rate of increment gets slowdown, greater Eckert number and joule heating parameter cause a rise in temperature as well as enhance the thermal boundary thickness. Consequently rate of heat transfer diminishes as thickness leads to low heat transfer coefficient. The applications of this study are shown in: multiple heating devices and industrial processes such as incandescent light bulb's filament emitting light, food processing and polymer processing etc.

Background
Transcatheter mitral valve repair has emerged as a viable option for treating mitral regurgitation (MR). We report results from the multicentre, prospective, single arm CLASP study with the PASCAL transcatheter valve repair system.
Methods
109 patients with clinically significant MR deemed candidates for transcatheter repair by the local heart team were treated in the CLASP study. The study evaluated safety, performance, clinical and echocardiographic outcomes and included an independent clinical events committee and echocardiographic core lab. The primary safety endpoint was a composite MAE rate at 30 days of cardiovascular mortality, stroke, MI, new need for renal replacement therapy, severe bleeding, and re-intervention for study device-related complications.
Results
Mean age was 76 years, 54% male, 57% NYHA Class III/IV, 100% MR grade ≥3+ with 62% functional, 31% degenerative, 7% mixed etiology. Successful implantation was achieved in 95% of patients. At 30 days, the MAE rate was 8.3% including one cardiovascular mortality due to cardiogenic shock as a result of severe bleeding at the contralateral arterial access site for hemodynamic monitoring further complicated by disseminated intravascular coagulation, one stroke, and one conversion to mitral valve replacement surgery. In paired analysis, 88% of patients were in NYHA Class I/II (p<0.001), MR grade was ≤1+ in 79% of patients and ≤2+ in 96% of patients. Significant improvements in 6MWD (+27 m, p<0.001) and KCCQ (+16 points, p<0.001) were observed. The six-month data will be available for presentation. In addition, we report one-year follow up of the first 62 patients (ITT): 93% one-year survival rate (Kaplan-Meier estimate), no stroke, no late reintervention, one late MI. In paired analysis, MR grade was ≤1+ in 82% of patients and ≤2+ in 100% of patients. 88% of patients were in NYHA Class I/II (p<0.001), 6MWD improved by 21 m (p=0.124) and KCCQ improved by 13 points (p<0.001).
Conclusions
This study demonstrates the PASCAL transcatheter valve repair system is safe and resulted in robust MR reduction with 100% of patients achieving MR ≤2+, and ∼ 80% MR ≤1+, sustained at one year. Results show high survival and low complication rates, and sustained improvements in functional status, exercise capacity, and quality of life at one year in patients with clinically significant, symptomatic MR. The CLASP IID/IIF pivotal trial is underway.

Abstract
In this Letter, we report the first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions at low particle momenta, covering a range of 0.3≤p<4 GeV/c. The measurement is carried out using p-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon-nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, recorded with the ALICE detector at the CERN LHC and utilizing the detector material as an absorber for antideuterons and antiprotons. The extracted raw primary antiparticle-to-particle ratios are compared to the results from detailed ALICE simulations based on the geant4 toolkit for the propagation of (anti)particles through the detector material. The analysis of the raw primary (anti)proton spectra serves as a benchmark for this study, since their hadronic interaction cross sections are well constrained experimentally. The first measurement of the inelastic cross section for antideuteron-nucleus interactions averaged over the ALICE detector material with atomic mass numbers ⟨A⟩=17.4 and 31.8 is obtained. The measured inelastic cross section points to a possible excess with respect to the Glauber model parametrization used in geant4 in the lowest momentum interval of 0.3≤p<0.47 GeV/c up to a factor 2.1. This result is relevant for the understanding of antimatter propagation and the contributions to antinuclei production from cosmic ray interactions within the interstellar medium. In addition, the momentum range covered by this measurement is of particular importance to evaluate signal predictions for indirect dark-matter searches.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence suggests that amyloid β (Aβ) peptides play an important role in the degeneration of neurons during the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD), the prevalent cause of dementia affecting the elderly. The endosomal-lysosomal system, which acts as a major site for Aβ metabolism, has been shown to exhibit abnormalities in vulnerable neurons of the AD brain, reflected by enhanced levels/expression of lysosomal enzymes including cathepsin D (CatD). At present, the implication of CatD in selective neuronal vulnerability in AD pathology remains unclear. METHODS We evaluated the role of CatD in the degeneration of neurons in Aβ-treated cultures, transgenic AD mouse model (that is 5xFAD) and post mortem AD brain samples. RESULTS Our results showed that Aβ1-42 -induced toxicity in cortical cultured neurons is associated with impaired lysosomal integrity, enhanced levels of carbonylated proteins and tau phosphorylation. The cellular and cytosolic levels/activity of CatD are also elevated in cultured neurons following exposure to Aβ peptide. Additionally, we observed that CatD cellular and subcellular levels/activity are increased in the affected cortex, but not in the unaffected cerebellum, of 5xFAD mice and post mortem AD brains. Interestingly, treatment of cultured neurons with nanoparticles PLGA, which targets lysosomal system, attenuated Aβ toxicity by reducing the levels of carbonylated proteins, tau phosphorylation and the level/distribution/activity of CatD. CONCLUSION Our study reveals that increased cytosolic level/activity of CatD play an important role in determining neuronal vulnerability in AD. Additionally, native PLGA can protect neurons against Aβ toxicity by restoring lysosomal membrane integrity, thus signifying its implication in attenuating AD.

Abstract
The first measurement at the LHC of charge-dependent directed flow (v_{1}) relative to the spectator plane is presented for Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. Results are reported for charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons for the transverse momentum intervals p_{T}>0.2 GeV/c and 3<p_{T}<6 GeV/c in the 5%-40% and 10%-40% centrality classes, respectively. The difference between the positively and negatively charged hadron v_{1} has a positive slope as a function of pseudorapidity η, dΔv_{1}/dη=[1.68±0.49(stat)±0.41(syst)]×10^{-4}. The same measurement for D^{0} and D[over ¯]^{0} mesons yields a positive value dΔv_{1}/dη=[4.9±1.7(stat)±0.6(syst)]×10^{-1}, which is about 3 orders of magnitude larger than the one of the charged hadrons. These measurements can provide new insights into the effects of the strong electromagnetic field and the initial tilt of matter created in noncentral heavy ion collisions on the dynamics of light (u, d, and s) and heavy (c) quarks. The large difference between the observed Δv_{1} of charged hadrons and D^{0} mesons may reflect different sensitivity of the charm and light quarks to the early time dynamics of a heavy ion collision. These observations challenge some recent theoretical calculations, which predicted a negative and an order of magnitude smaller value of dΔv_{1}/dη for both light flavor and charmed hadrons.

Abstract
The first evidence of spin alignment of vector mesons (K^{*0} and ϕ) in heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is reported. The spin density matrix element ρ_{00} is measured at midrapidity (|y|<0.5) in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector. ρ_{00} values are found to be less than 1/3 (1/3 implies no spin alignment) at low transverse momentum (p_{T}<2 GeV/c) for K^{*0} and ϕ at a level of 3σ and 2σ, respectively. No significant spin alignment is observed for the K_{S}^{0} meson (spin=0) in Pb-Pb collisions and for the vector mesons in pp collisions. The measured spin alignment is unexpectedly large but qualitatively consistent with the expectation from models which attribute it to a polarization of quarks in the presence of angular momentum in heavy-ion collisions and a subsequent hadronization by the process of recombination.
