[Characteristics，Sources，and Ozone-sensitive Species of VOCs in Four Seasons in Yuncheng]

Based on the one-year observational data of volatile organic compounds （VOCs） in an urban area of Yuncheng in 2021， the concentration， composition， sources， and ozone-sensitive species of VOCs in four seasons were analyzed. The results showed that the average annual concentration of VOCs was （32.1 ±24.2）×10-9， i.e.， at the national middle level. The seasonal concentrations of VOCs were in the order of： winter （46.3×10-9）> autumn （35.5×10-9）> spring （25.6×10-9）> summer （21.2×10-9）. Alkanes and OVOCs were the most dominant VOCs compounds， accounting for 69.0%-80.4% of TVOCs in Yuncheng. Affected by changes in source emissions， the proportion of OVOCs was higher in spring and summer （41%-43%）， whereas the proportion of alkanes was higher in autumn and winter （42%-43%）. Vehicle exhaust， LPG/NG， industrial production， and combustion sources were identified as the main sources of VOCs in Yuncheng. The largest contributors in the four seasons were vehicle exhaust （28.5% in spring）， secondary + combustion sources （29.0% in summer）， LPG/NG sources （30.4% in autumn）， and coal combustion （27.3% in winter）. The ozone formation was located in the transitional regime in summer and in the VOC-limited regime in other seasons. Ozone production was more sensitive to alkenes （isoprene， ethylene， and propene）， OVOCs （acetaldehyde and propanal）， and aromatics （xylene， toluene， and benzene）. Winter was more sensitive to ethylene， and the other seasons were more sensitive to isoprene. The primary emission sources related to these sensitive species should be reduced to achieve the goal of air quality improvement.

[Attention to the prevention and control of allergic diseases in the elderly]

With the global increase in the prevalence of allergic diseases and the rising life expectancy, it is anticipated that the number of elderly patients affected by allergies will also increase. While it was previously believed that allergies primarily affected children and adolescents and diminished with age, epidemiological studies indicate a growing prevalence of allergies in the elderly. Various allergic diseases have similar prevalence rates in the elderly as in the general population, and some, like drug allergies, are even more prevalent in this age group. Allergic diseases in the elderly often present with atypical symptoms, leading to challenges in differential diagnosis and treatment. This paper discusses immunosenescence and the distinct features of allergic diseases in older individuals. The goal is to raise awareness among healthcare providers about allergies in older adults, encourage preventive measures, and improve the quality of life for elderly patients with allergies. By managing allergies better, it can also help with the management of other chronic diseases in the elderly and contribute to better overall health for everyone.

Specific volatiles of tea plants determine the host preference behavior of Empoasca onukii

Empoasca onukii is a major pest that attacks tea plants. To seek effective and sustainable methods to control the pest, it is necessary to assess its host preference among different species of tea and understand the critical factors behind this behavior. In this study, the behavioral preference of E. onukii for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of three potted tea species was evaluated. The VOCs released by the three tea species were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and the major components were used to test the pest's preference. Transcriptome analysis was used to infer the key genes that affect the biosyntheses of the VOCs. The results showed that the tendency of E. onukii toward the VOCs of the three tea species was the strongest in green tea, followed by white tea, and the weakest in red tea. This behavioral preference was significantly and positively correlated with the relative levels of hexanol, linalool, and geraniol in tea volatiles. Relative hexanol was significantly and positively correlated with the expression of genes TEA009423 (LOX2.1), TEA009596 (LOX1.5), TEA008699 (HPL), TEA018669 (CYPADH), and TEA015686 (ADHIII). Relative linalool was significantly and positively correlated with the expression of genes TEA001435 (CAD) and Camellia_sinensis_newGene_22126 (TPS). Relative geraniol was significantly and positively correlated with the expression of genes TEA001435 (CAD), TEA002658 (CYP76B6), TEA025455 (CYP76T24), and Camellia_sinensis_newGene_22126 (TPS). The above findings suggested that three volatiles (hexanol, linalool, and geraniol) determined the behavioral preference of E. onukii toward tea plants, and their biosynthesis was mainly affected by nine genes (TEA009423, TEA009596, TEA008699, TEA018669, TEA015686, TEA001435, TEA002658, TEA025455, and Camellia_sinensis_newGene_22126).

[Influential factors related to functional status after full-endoscopic lumbar discectomy]

OBJECTIVE

To explore the influential factors associated with functional status of those patients who undertook a full-endoscopic lumbar discectomy operation.

METHODS

A prospective study was conducted. A total of 96 patients who undertook a full-endoscopic lumbar discectomy operation and met inclusive criteria were enrolled in the study. The postoperative follow-up was held 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after operation. The self-developed record file was used to collect the patient's information and medical history. Visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Oswestry disability index (ODI) score, Gene-ralised anxiety disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale score and patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scale score were applied to measure pain intensity, functional status, anxiety status and depression status. Repeated measurement analysis of variance was used to explore the ODI score 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after operation. Multiple linear regression was recruited to illuminate the influential factors associated with functional status after the operation. Logistic regression was employed to explore the independent risk factors related to return to work 6 months after operation.

RESULTS

The postoperative functional status of the patients improved gradually. The functional status of the patients 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after operation were highly positively correlated with the current average pain intensity. The factors influencing the postoperative functional status of the patients were different according to the recovery stage. One month and 3 months after operation, the factors influencing the postoperative functional status were the current average pain intensity; 6 months after operation, the factors influencing the postoperative functional status included the current average pain intensity, preoperative average pain intensity, gender and educational level. The risk factors influencing return to work 6 months after operation included women, young age, preoperative depression status and high average pain intensity 3 months after operation.

CONCLUSION

It is feasible to treat chronic low back pain with full-endoscopic lumbar discectomy operation. In the process of postoperative functional status recovery, medical staffs should not only take analgesic mea-sures to reduce the pain intensity experienced by the patients, but also pay attention to the impact of psychosocial factors on the recovery. Women, young age, preoperative depression status, and high average pain intensity 3 months after operation may delay return to work after the operation.

[Spinal metastases combined with leptomeningeal metastasis: A case report]

Spinal metastases (SM) is the commonest form of solid tumors osseous metastasis, for which surgical dissection is often performed when combined with spinal cord compression. Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) results from dissemination of cancer cells to both the leptomeninges (pia and arachnoid) and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) compartment. The spread of LM may occur via multiple routes, such as hematogenous, direct infiltration from metastatic brain lesions, or via iatrogenic seeding of CSF. Signs and symptoms associated with LM are generalized and various while early diagnosis of LM is challenging. Cytological evaluation of the CSF and gadolinium enhanced MRI brain and spine is the gold standard for diagnosing LM and CSF can help assess treatment response. While a number of other potential CSF biomarkers have been investigated both for the diagnosis as well as monitoring of LM, none have been established as a component of the standard evaluation of all LM or suspected LM patients. Management goals of LM include improving patient's neurologic function, quality of life, preventing further neurologic deterioration and prolonging survival. In many cases, it may be reasonable to pursue a palliative and comfort focused course, even from the initial LM diagnosis. Surgery is not recommended considering the risk of seeding with cerebrospinal fluid. A diagnosis of LM carries a poor prognosis with an estimated median survival of only 2-4 months despite therapy. Spinal metastases combined with leptomeningeal metastasis (SM+LM) is not uncommon and its treatment is similar to LM. LM can appear at the same time as SM or directly invaded by SM, which is thought regarding the pathophysiology of LM remains speculative and not systematically studied. The present article reports a 58-year-old woman who was first diagnosed with SM, but worsened after surgery repeated MRI examinations confirmed coexisting LM. Relevant literature was reviewed to summarize the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, imaging characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of SM+LM, so as to improve the understanding of the disease and promote early diagnosis. It should be vigilant to merge LM for the patient with SM when atypical clinical manifestations, rapid disease progression or inconsistent with imaging occurred. Repeated examinations of cerebrospinal fluid cytology and enhanced MRI should be considered when SM+LM is suspected to achieve timely adjustment of diagnosis and treatment strategy for better prognosis.

Factors impacting the behavior of phytoremediation in pesticide-contaminated environment: A meta-analysis

Phytoremediation provides substantial advantages, including eco-friendliness, cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and visual appeal. However, the current knowledge of the factors influencing phytoremediation in pesticide-contaminated environments remains limited. It is critical to understand phytoremediation and the factors affecting the variation in removal efficiency. In this study, we compiled 72 previous research articles to quantify plant-induced improvements in removal efficiency and identify factors that influence variations in phytoremediation behavior through meta-analysis. We observed a significant increase in the removal efficiency of phytoremediation compared to the control group which did not involve phytoremediation. Pesticides significantly affect removal efficiency in terms of their modes of action, substance group, and properties. Plants demonstrated higher efficiency in remediating environments contaminated with pesticides possessing lower molecular masses and log K_ow values. Plant species emerged as a crucial determinant of variations in removal efficiency. Annual plants exhibited a 1.45-fold higher removal efficiency than perennial plants. The removal efficiencies of different plant types decreased in the following order: agri-food crops > aquatic macrophytes > turfgrasses > medicinal plants > forage crops > woody trees. The Gramineae family, which was the most prevalent, demonstrated a robust and consistent phytoremediation ability. This study offers a more comprehensive triangular relationship between removal efficiency, pesticides, and plants, expanding the traditional linear model. Our findings offer valuable insights into the behavior of phytoremediation in pesticide-contaminated environments and the factors determining its success, ultimately guiding further research toward developing strategies for higher removal efficiency in phytoremediation.

[Research advances on the application of natural and recombinant collagen in wound repair]

Collagen is a macromolecular protein constituting the extracellular matrix of animal connective tissue, which has been widely used and developed in fields of biomedicine, tissue engineering, food, and cosmetics. Due to its advantages such as abundant sources and good biocompatibility, low immunogenicity, and degradability, collagen can be used as a dressing or tissue engineering scaffold for wound repair. According to the source of materials, collagen can be divided into natural collagen and recombinant collagen. Natural collagen is mainly extracted directly from mammals and fish; recombinant collagen is obtained based on genetic engineering technology, and its sources include recombinant expression systems of microorganisms, animals, and plants. This paper summarizes the sources of collagen, and the roles, advantages, and disadvantages of different sources of collagen in wound repair, the particularity and superiority of collagen combined with three-dimensional printing technology in wound repair, the impact of market norms of China's collagen industry on the field of wound repair, and explains the precautions for the development of collagen-related products, aiming to provide new ideas for selecting a suitable source of collagen for wound repair.

[Pollution Characteristics and Source Apportionment of Atmospheric Volatile Organic Compounds in Summer in Yuncheng City]

Based on the online monitoring data of VOCs, O₃, and NO₂ in Yuncheng City from June to August 2020, the pollution characteristics of VOCs in Yuncheng City in summer were analyzed. At the same time, the main emission sources were determined using a PMF model, and the chemical reactivity of VOCs was evaluated using the maximum incremental reactivity (MIR) method and fractional aerosol coefficients (FAC). The results showed that the urban area of Yuncheng was seriously polluted by VOCs and NO₂ in the early morning and evening during summer, the peak value of VOCs daily variation occurred at 08:00 and 20:00, respectively, and was mainly affected by the morning and evening peaks in traffic. The ρ(VOCs) from June to August was 50.52 μg·m^-3, and the species with the highest proportion were alkanes (39.39%) and oxygenated volatile organic compounds (OVOCs, 34.63%). Five VOCs emission sources were determined by the PMF model, of which the largest contribution was from motor vehicle exhaust emission sources (33.10%), followed by industrial emission sources (29.46%), natural gas and coal combustion sources (17.31%), solvent use sources (11.94%), and plant emission sources (8.19%). Controlling motor vehicle exhaust emission sources is the key to alleviate VOCs pollution in summer in Yuncheng City. The average ozone formation potential (OFP) of VOCs was 162.88 μg·m^-3, in which OVOCs had the highest contribution rate (45.37%); acetaldehyde, propionaldehyde, ethylene, isoprene, and toluene were the key active components; and industrial emission sources were the emission sources with the highest contribution rate. The average value of secondary organic aerosol formation potential (SOA_p) of VOCs was 0.40 μg·m^-3, in which the contribution rate of aromatic hydrocarbons was the highest (88.00%), and the solvent use source was the emission source with the highest contribution rate.

[Association between the presence of solid or micropapillary components and survival outcome in stage ⅠA lung adenocarcinoma cases: a retrospective cohort study]

Objectives: To examine the influence of the proportion of pathological subtypes on the prognosis of stage ⅠA lung adenocarcinoma cases, and to explore the association between the presence/absence of solid or micropapillary (S/M) components and survival outcome. Methods: Totally 321 patients with stage ⅠA lung adenocarcinoma who received complete surgical resection at Department of Thoracic Surgery, Tongji University Affiliated Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital from January 2011 to December 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 130 males and 191 females, aging 59(11) years (M(IQR)) (range: 55 to 66 years). The diagnostic value of the proportion of each pathological growth subtype on relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed by using receiver operator characteristic curve. Patients were firstly divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of S/M components. And patients without S/M components were farther divided into two groups according to predominant growth pattern. There were three groups in total: with S/M components (group S/M⁺), without S/M components and lepidic growth pattern predominant (group S/M^-LPA), without S/M components and papillary or acinar growth pattern predominant (group S/M^-P/A). Kaplan-Meier method were used to draw the survival curves of the three groups, and Log-rank test were used to compare RFS and OS among the three groups. Cox proportional risk model was used to verify whether the presence of S/M components was a prognostic factor on RFS. Results: The proportion of S/M components had no diagnostic value for recurrence (solid: area under curve (AUC)=0.588, P=0.095; micropapillary: AUC=0.566, P=0.106) and death (AUC=0.589, P=0.104; AUC=0.607, P=0.056). The 5-year RFS rate of group S/M^-LPA, S/M^-P/A and S/M⁺ were 92.4%, 82.3% and 77.3%, respectively (all P<0.05), while the 5-year OS rate were 97.4%, 94.5% and 83.2%, respectively (all P<0.05). Multivariable analysis showed that the 3 groups were independent predictors of recurrence (S/M^-P/A vs. S/M^- LPA: HR=2.691, 95%CI: 1.249 to 5.799, P=0.011; S/M⁺ vs. S/M^-LPA, HR=6.763, 95%CI: 3.050 to 14.996, P<0.01). Conclusions: The proportion of S/M components in stage ⅠA lung adenocarcinoma with complete resection cases did not affect survival outcome. New grouping method based on the presence or absence of S/M components were significantly associated with patient survival outcomes: S/M⁺ patients had the worst prognosis and S/M^-LPA patients had the best prognosis.

[Clinical characteristics of Wilson's disease with onset of acute liver failure in 19 children]

Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics of Wilson's disease (WD) with onset of acute liver failure (ALF) in children. Methods: Clinical data of 19 children diagnosed with WD presented with ALF in Xi'an Children's Hospital from January 2016 to April 2021 were retrospectively analyzed, including general condition, clinical manifestation, laboratory examination, and gene detection. The children were divided into the death group and survival group according to the clinical outcome. The children who had hepatic WD with non-ALF onset during the same period were selected as the control. The general conditions and laboratory indexes were compared between death group and survival group, ALF group and non-ALF group. T-test, Mann Whitney U test or χ² test were used to compare the differences between the two groups. Results: Of the 19 WD children with ALF onset, 10 were females and 9 were males. The age of admission was (10.1±2.6) years and time to onset of first visit was 9 (4, 15) days. Among the WD children with ALF onset, 4 children were lost to follow-up, 5 cases death (death group) and 10 cases survived (survival group). The ceruloplasmin in the death group was higher than that in the survival group (0.078 (0.055, 0.105) vs. 0.033 (0.027, 0.058) g/L, Z=-2.33, P=0.020). There were 95 children who had hepatic WD with non-ALF onset. The WD patients with ALF onset were older at admission (9.9 (8.0, 11.1) vs. 5.4 (3.7, 6.9) years, Z=-5.25, P<0.001), had higher ceruloplasmin (0.060 (0.030, 0.078) vs. 0.024 (0.006, 0.060) g/L, Z=-3.11, P=0.002), 24 h urinary copper (674 (205, 1 803) vs. 149 (108, 206) μg, Z=-4.25, P<0.001), and positive rate of K-F ring [17/19 vs. 7%(7/95), χ²=50.17, P<0.001] while shorter onset time at initial visit (0.3 (0.1, 0.5) vs. 1.0 (0.7, 6.0) months, Z=-4.28, P<0.001). There was no gender difference between the two groups [9/19 vs. 61%(58/95), χ²=1.22, P=0.269]. Of the 19 WD children with ALF onset, 13 had the ATP7B gene tested, and 15 reported variants were detected. The main variations were c.2333G>T (p. Arg778Leu), c.2621C>T (p. Ala874Val) and c.2975C>T (p. Pro992Leu). The allele frequencies were 6/26(23%), 4/26(15%) and 3/26(12%), respectively. Conclusions: Children of WD onset with ALF are school-aged and above. They have an acute onset, a short course of the disease, and poor prognosis. The positive rate of K-F ring, ceruloplasmin and urinary copper are higher than those of the hepatic WD children with non-ALF onset.

[Effects on extravascular lung water of lung protective ventilation strategy applied on piglets with acute respiratory distress syndrome induced by paraquat]

Objective: To study the effects on extravascular lung water of lung protective ventilation strategy applying on piglets with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) induced by paraquat (PQ) under pulse indicating continuous cardiac output (PiCCO) monitoring. Methods: The piglets models with ARDS induced by PQ were established in June 2020 and all of them were received mechanical ventilation and divided into three groups according to tidal volume (V(T)) : small V(T) group (6 ml/kg) , middle V(T) group (10 ml/kg) and large V(T) group (15 ml/kg) , there were 5 piglets in each group. The positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) were all setup on 10 cmH(2)O. The indexes such as arterial blood gas analysis, oxygenation index (OI) , extravascular lung water index (ELWI) and pulmonary vascular permeability index (PVPI) were monitored at time of before the model was established (baseline) , time of the model was established (t(0)) and 2 h (t(2)) , 4 h (t(4)) , 6 h (t(6)) after mechanical ventilation. Lung tissue were punctured at time of baseline, t(0) and t(6) to be stained by Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and pulmonary pathology were observed under light microscopy. Results: The heart rate (HR) , mean arterial pressure (MAP) and partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO(2)) of all groups were higher than the base value while the pH values, partial pressure of oxygen (PaO(2)) and OI were lower than the base value when the models were established (P<0.05) . After mechanical ventilation, the HR and MAP values of all groups at t(2), t(4) and t(6) were lower than t(0) while the PaCO(2) of t(4) and t(6) were all higher than t(0), the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05) . The PaO(2) and OI of all groups showed a trend of rising at first and then decreasing after mechanical ventilation. The MAP, PaO(2), PaCO(2) and OI of the middle V(T) group and large V(T) group were apparently lower than that of the small V(T) group at t(2), t(4) and t(6) (P<0.05) . The ELWI and PVPI at t(0) of all groups were higher than that of baseline (P<0.05) . The ELWI of the small V(T) group at t(6) were lower than t(0) of the same group and t(6) of the middle V(T) group and large V(T) group (P<0.05) . HE staining showed congestion and edema of alveolar tissue, swelling of capillaries, exudation of red blood cells and widening of alveolar septum in piglets after successful modeling. And further widening of alveolar septum and rupture of alveolar septum could be seen in the lung tissues of each group at t(6), and the injury was the slightest in the small V(T) group. Conclusion: The lung protective ventilation strategy can alleviate the extravascular lung water and ARDS induced by PQ and improve oxygenation.

[Clinical features and gene mutation analysis of patients with Alagille syndrome]

Objective: To analyze the clinical manifestations and gene mutations of patients with Alagille Syndrome (ALGS) to improve diagnosis and provide a boarder spectrum of gene mutagenesis. Methods: A retrospective study was performed in 18 ALGS patients admitted to Xi'an Children's Hospital from January 2016 to January 2020. Clinical characteristics, biochemical parameters, gene mutations and prognosis were collected and analyzed. Next-generation sequencing of liver disease-related gene panels or the whole exome was carried out for the probands. Mutations of candidate genes were verified by Sanger sequencing in their family members. Based on the comparison with a well-known database of disease, the harmfulness and structures of proteins with novel mutations were predicted, and the pathogenicity was evaluated. Results: There were 9 males and 9 females with ALGS in this study, and the age of initial diagnosis was 2.5 (1.9, 6.8) months. All patients initially presented with cholestasis, with other symptoms including 15 cases of special facial features, 11 cases of butterfly vertebrae, 10 cases of congenital heart disease, 5 cases of posterior corneal embryonic ring (among 16 cases with ophthalmological examination), and 1 case of polycystic kidney disease. A total of 14 JAG1 gene mutations and 6 NOTCH2 gene mutations were identified. Among these newly identified mutations, 6 were associated with JAG1 gene, including c.1213delA (p.T405Lfs*7), c.1270dupG(p.A424Gfs*5), c.1741dupG(p.A581Gfs*8), c.3045delC (p.I1016Ffs*20), c.2000-2A>C and c.625C>A(p.H209N); 4 were associated with NOTCH2 gene, including c.6961dupG(p.A2321Gfs*79), c.518G>T(p.G173V), c.6157C>T(p.R2053C) and c.710G>A(p.R237Q). Sixteen patients were followed up for (37.9±31.5) months. Among these cases, 2 died of liver failure (1 case underwent Kasai operation due to misdiagnosis with biliary atresia), 1 improved after liver transplantation, and 13 were in stable condition after medical treatment. Conclusions: The phenotypes of ALGS are diverse, genetic detection can help diagnosis. The JAG1 and NOTCH2 genes showed a wide array of mutations, with many novel mutations identified in this study.

Molecular mechanism concerning conformational changes of CDK2 mediated by binding of inhibitors using molecular dynamics simulations and principal component analysis

Cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) has been regarded as a promising drug target for anti-tumour agents. In this study, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and principal component (PC) analysis were used to explore binding mechanism of three inhibitors 1PU, CDK, 50Z to CDK2 and influences of their bindings on conformational changes of CDK2. The results show that bindings of inhibitors yield obvious impacts on internal dynamics, movement patterns and conformational changes of CDK2. In addition, molecular mechanics generalized Born surface area (MM-GBSA) was applied to calculate binding free energies between three inhibitors and CDK2 and evaluate their binding ability to CDK2. The results show that CDK has the strongest binding to CDK2 among the current three inhibitors. Residue-based free energy decomposition method was further utilized to decode the contributions of a single residue to binding of inhibitors, and it was found that three inhibitors not only produce hydrogen bonding interactions and hydrophobic interactions with key residues of CDK2, which promotes binding of three inhibitors to CDK2, but also share similar binding modes. This work is expected to be helpful for design of efficient drugs targeting CDK2.

[A physician-patient survey for primary immune thrombocytopenia: Chinese subgroup analysis of I-WISh International Survey]

Objective: To explore the impact of primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) on patient's quality of life and emotional well-being, and both the physician and the patient's perception of the treatment. Methods: This study was a Chinese Subgroup analysis of I-WISh survey, including 102 physicians and 286 ITP patients invited to complete the survey. A descriptive analysis of the results of the physician-patient survey was conducted in three parts: symptoms, impact of ITP on quality of life and emotion, and treatment perception. Results: Fatigue and anxiety about unstable platelet counts were the main symptoms after treatment. Physicians reported inadequate frequency of anxiety and fatigue. In terms of quality of life, over 90.0% of patients thought that ITP had a negative impact on their working life/studies, daily tasks, energy, capacity to exercise, and sexual life. With regard to emotion, 60.8% (174/286) patients thought that ITP had a greater impact on overall emotion, concerns about the fluctuation in platelet level (74.8%, 214/286) , disease itself (71.7%, 205/286) and disease progression (68.9%, 197/286) were the common issues, which were similar to the physicians' evaluations. Both physicians and patients agreed that reducing spontaneous bleeding, maintaining a healthy blood count and improving quality of life were the top three important treatment goals. Physicians considered reducing bleeding risk as the most important factor for decision making. Physicians believed that patients receiving glucocorticoid (54.9%, 56/102) were most likely to succeed in achieving sustained response while patients had the best response to thrombopoietin receptor agonist (TPO-RA) treatment, with about 83.9% (240/286) being satisfied with the overall effectiveness of TPO-RA. Conclusions: Physicians in the I-WISh Chinese subgroup had low awareness on patients' fatigue and anxiety. The quality of life and emotion of patients were significantly negatively affected by ITP. There are differences in the selection of treatments between physicians and patients, suggesting that physicians should raise concerns about the quality of life of ITP patients and make individualized treatment options through physician-patient shared decisions.

[Chemical Composition and Source Analysis of PM2.5 in Yuncheng, Shanxi Province in Autumn and Winter]

In order to reveal the chemical composition characteristics and pollution sources of fine particulate matter (PM_2.5) in autumn and winter in Yuncheng, PM_2.5 samples were continuously collected using a four-channel small-flow particulate sampler from October 15, 2018 to March 15, 2019. The study prediminantly analyzed the chemical components of water-soluble ions, elemental carbon, organic carbon, and metal elements. Additionally, the chemical mass reconstruction method of particulate matter and the positive matrix factorization model (PMF) were combined for an in-depth discussion. During the sample period, the PM_2.5 mass concentrations range was 29.37-370.11 μg·m^-3, and 101 days during the sampling period exhibited concentrations that were higher than the secondary standard in China's Ambient Air Quality Standards (GB 3095-2012), with an exceeding rate of 70.63%. These results indicate that the air pollution in Yuncheng in autumn and winter is serious. According to the air quality index (AQI), the collected samples are classified as clean, light-moderate pollution, and heavy-severe pollution. Water-soluble ions, OC, EC and metal elements account for 40%, 19%, 5%, and 7% on clean days, 46%, 18%, 4%, and 5% on days with light-moderate pollution, and 46%, 21%, 4%, and 4% on days with heavy-severe pollution, respectively. Secondary ions NO₃^-, SO₄^2-, and NH₄⁺ are the primary components of water-soluble ions, accounting for 81% (clean days), 87% (light-moderate pollution), and 87% (heavy-severe pollution) of the total ion concentration, respectively. The OC/EC ratios during the sampling period were 3.78 (clean days), 4.02 (light-moderate pollution), and 5.37 (heavy-severe pollution). With the intensification of pollution, the pollution of secondary organic aerosols in the atmosphere becomes increasingly serious. In addition, as the air pollution increased, the concentration of Fe and Cr elements gradually decreased, while the concentration of other metal elements showed an overall upward trend. The results of the chemical mass reconstruction demonstrate that among the different pollution levels of atmospheric PM_2.5 in Yuncheng, the mass percentages of secondary inorganic salt, sea salt, heavy metals, mineral dust, construction dust, organic matter, and elemental carbon were 36%, 2%, 2%, 8%, 1%, 33%, and 5% (clean days), 41%, 1%, 1%, 5%, 0.01%, 31%, and 5% (light-moderate pollution), and 41%, 1%, 1%, 4%, 0.004%, 34%, and 4% (heavy-severe pollution). The proportion of secondary inorganic ions increased and mineral dust decreased with the deterioration of air quality. The PMF analysis results suggest that secondary related sources, coal combustion sources, vehicle exhaust sources, biomass burning, and secondary organic matter are the predominant sources of PM_2.5 during serious air pollution in Yuncheng.

[Clinical study on the accuracy of occlusal contacts on digital model]

Objective: To explore the accuracy of occlusal contacts on digital model made by intraoral scanner. Methods: Twenty healthy subjects [6 males, 14 females, (24.4±1.4) years old] with intact dentition were randomly recruited from postgraduate students in Capital Medical University School of Stomatology who volunteered to participate in this study. For each participant, the 2nd and 3rd quadrant of natural dentition was scanned. A diagnostic test design was performed. The occlusal contacts of the maximal intercuspal position (MIP) were extracted with the transillumination of silicone interocclusal records, and the extraction threshold was set as ≤50 μm. Intraoral scanning system was used to scan in MIP and generate occlusal contacts on digital model. Five groups were designed as test groups according to included tooth position: group 1 (buccal scanning ranged from tooth 21 to 23), group 2 (buccal scanning ranged from tooth 23 to 26), group 3 (buccal scanning ranged from tooth 24 to 26), group 4 (buccal scanning ranged from tooth 25 to 26), group 5 (buccal scanning ranged from tooth 21 to 26). Five groups occlusal contacts on digital model were generated respectively. According to the relevant literature, the upper occlusal surface was divided into 28 partitions, and the accuracy of occlusal contacts on digital model was calculated with the transillumination of silicone interocclusal records as the reference standard. Subgroup analysis was performed according to anterior teeth area, premolars area and molars area. Results: The accuracy of occlusal contacts on digital models of the half dentition in five buccal scanning positions were: group 1 (86.8%), group 2 (92.0%), group 3 (90.7%), group 4 (91.1%), group 5 (90.4%), and the accuracy of occlusal contacts in group 1 was significantly lower than those in the other four groups (P<0.05). The accuracy of anterior teeth area were 85.6%-93.9%; the accuracy of premolar area were 92.5%-94.4%; the accuracy of molar area were 77.3%-93.6%, group 1 was significantly lower than those in the group 4 in molars area (P<0.05), the accuracy of anterior area was statistically less than premolars area and molars area in group 1 (P<0.05). There was no statistical difference in pairwise comparison between the three sections (P>0.05). Conclusions: The digital models scanned intraoral methods provide accurate, quantitative measures of occlusal contacts when transillumination contacts are the reference standard.

[Analysis of anxiety, depression and related factors in patients with chronic lumbocrural pain before minimally invasive surgery]

OBJECTIVE

To investigate anxiety and/or depression status of patients with chronic lumbocrural pain, and to further analyze related risk factors of anxiety and/or depression .

METHODS

Retrospective analysis of the medical data of patients who suffered from chronic lumbocrural pain caused by lumbar disc herniation and/or lumbar spinal stenosis and received minimally invasive surgery from March 2018 to April 2018. General data (including age, gender, education levels, past history, sleep order and medical insurance), numeric rating scale(NRS), Japanese Orthopedic Association(JOA) back pain scale and hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS) were collected for analysis. The basic demographic data and clinic data were analyzed, possible related risk factors associated were analyzed by univariate analysis, and multivariate Logistic regression analysis was further used to find the relative independent risk factors and included all the predictive variables with P values less than 0.05 as covariates.

RESULTS

A total of 91 patients met the inclusion criteria and finished this study, the mean HADS score for anxiety was 8.1±4.2, 48(52.7%) respondents were screened positive for anxiety, while the rest 43(47.3%) patients had negative anxiety state, the mean HDDS score for depression was 6.9±4.9, 38(41.8%) respondents were screened positive for depression, and the rest 53(58.2%) patients were not depressed, and 56(61.5%) patients experienced anxiety or depression. There were significant difference in sleep disorder, JOA score and leg NRS score between the patients with and without anxiety(P<0.05), and the significant differences were also found in age, sleep disorder and JOA score between the patients with and without depression(P<0.05), Logistic regression analysis further showed that the JOA score and sleep disorder were risk factors for anxiety, and the JOA score was risk factor for depression.

CONCLUSION

Patients with chronic lumbocrural pain are often accompanied by anxiety and/or depression before minimally surgery, the low JOA score and sleep disturbance increased the risk of presenting anxiety, and the low JOA score increased the risk of developing depression. It is necessary to evaluate mental status and related risk factors before surgery.

Determination of Mepiquat Chloride Residues in Cotton and Soil by Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry

A liquid chromatographic/mass spectrometric (LC/MS) method is reported for the determination of the onium-type plant growth regulator mepiquat chloride in cotton and soil. The pesticide was extracted from the sample with ethanol and water containing 2 NH4Cl. The extract was cleaned up on a solid-phase extraction C18 column, and the pesticide was determined by LC/MS. The average recoveries were 85.993.8, 81.391.7, and 78.194.7, with corresponding relative standard deviations of 3.49.6, 3.712.3, and 4.09.8, from soil, cotton leaves, and cotton seeds, respectively. A coefficient of determination of R2 0.9964 was obtained for the analyte calibration graph, from 0.05 to 100 g/mL. Decision limits, CC, and detection capability, CC, were calculated. Electrospray ionization LC/MS in the positive-ion mode (ESI+) was used to detect mepiquat chloride in extracts of soil, cotton leaves, and cotton seeds. The ion at m/z 114 in the mass spectrum was monitored.

[Efficacy and safety of applying ultrasonic osteotome in cervical expansive open-door laminoplasty]

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the safety and efficacy of applying ultrasonic osteotome in patients undergoning cervical expansive open-door laminoplasty (CEOL).

METHODS

In the study, 94 consecutive patients who were administrated in the spine group of Orthopedic Department of Peking University Third Hospital from March 2015 to March 2016 were reviewed retrospectively. All the patients were diagnosed as multilevel cervical spondylosis myelopathy and underwent CEOL. These patients were divided into two groups: ultrasonic osteotome group and traditional group, by whether the ultrasonic osteotome device was used in operation. The parameters we studied were as follows: the duration of operation, blood loss in operation, volume of drainage on the first postoperative day, days of remaining the drainage tube, preoperative and postoperative Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) scores, complications of cerebrospinal fluid leak and hinge bone nonunion.

RESULTS

Compared with the traditional group, the duration of operation of the ultrasonic osteotome group was increased, but the blood loss in operation, volume of drainage on the 1st postoperative day and days of remaining the drainage tube of the ultrasonic osteotome group were all reduced. There was no obvious difference between the two groups when considering the cerebrospinal fluid leak. At the end of the 3-month follow-up, the JOA score and improvement rate of the JOA score were of no obvious difference between the two groups. But the hinge bone union of the traditional group was better than the ultrasonic osteotome group. At the end of the 12-month follow-up, all the JOA score, the improvement rate of the JOA score and the hinge bone union were not obviously different between the two groups.

CONCLUSION

Applying ultrasonic osteotome in patients undergoing cervical expansive open-door laminoplasty is both safe and effective. Compared with the rongeur, ultrasonic osteotome can cause the delayed union of the hinge bone, but it reduces the blood loss in operation, volume of postoperative drainage and days of remaining the drainage tube.

[Feasibility of supraglottic tracheal tube ventilation during painless fiberbronchoscopy]

Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of supraglottic tracheal tube ventilation by comparing with modified laryngeal mask airway ventilation during painless fiberbronchoscopy. Methods: This was a prospective study. Twenty-eight patients undergoing painless fiberbronchoscopy in Hangzhou First People's Hospital were randomly divided into 2 groups(n=14): supraglottic tracheal tube ventilation(group A) and modified laryngeal mask airway(group B). MAP, HR, SpO(2), P(ET)CO(2) and BIS were recorded after entering the operating room(T(0)), after anesthesia induction(T(1)), immediately after inserting laryngeal mask airway or tracheal tube(T(2)), fiberbronchoscopy inserting(T(3)), at the end of the operation(T(4)), and at the recovery of patients' consciousness(T(5)). The arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure(PaCO(2)), the time spent in successful positioning of the tube, the endoscope indwelling duration, operative time, tube drawing time, patients' awakening time, satisfaction of operators, adverse events during anesthesia, the numbers of bucking or body moving were also recorded.The dose of propofol and remifentanil were also statisticed. Results: P(ET)CO(2) in group A at T(0), T(1), T(2), T(3), T(4), T(5) were (36.9±4.1), (36.3±4.7), (38.1±5.6), (40.4±4.0), (48.8±7.7), (45.3±7.6) mmHg, P(ET)CO(2) in group B were (38.6±4.4), (37.8±5.6), (37.8±5.4), (37.4±6.7), (43.3±12.2), (43.5±8.0) mmHg, at the end of operation, the P(ET)CO(2) at T(4) and T(5) were significantly higher than at T(0) in group A and group B (F=14.582, 12.651, all P<0.05). The PaCO(2) in group A was (62.0±4.7) mmHg , which was significantly higher than group B at the end of operation[(51.9±4.2) mmHg, t=2.432, P<0.05]. The time spent successfully positioning the insertion in group A and group B were (17.6±7.5), (29.8±13.6)s, the endoscope indwelling duration were(0.8±0.1), (1.4±0.3)min, and the operation time were(32.3±4.3), (46.8±4.8)min, there were significantly difference between group A and group B(t=2.670, 2.214, 2.166, all P<0.05). There were no significantly difference of the numbers of bucking or body moving , the satisfaction of operators and patients, and adverse events (all P>0.05). Conclusion: Supraglottic tracheal tube ventilation for painless fiberbronchoscopy is a safe and effective procedure.

[Analysis of the characteristics of electrocardiogram in patients of different genders with pulmonary hypertension]

Objective: To analyze the characteristics of ECG in patients with pulmonary hypertension(PH) and explore their correlation with pulmonary vascular resistance(PVR), mean pulmonary arterial hypertension(mPAP) and cardiac index(CI). Methods: A total of 186 patients with right heart catheterization were enrolled in the Department of Respiratory of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from August 2015 to October 2017. Patients with normal pulmonary artery pressure, incomplete clinical data and repeated examinations were excluded and there were 101 patients with pulmonary hypertension included. The results of ECG parameters and right heart catheterization were collected to analyze the ECG characteristics of patients with different genders and their correlation with PVR, mPAP and CI. Results: Among all PH patients, the duration of QRS axial in male group was significantly longer than that of the female group [(110.38±15.829) vs. (98.63±18.041) ms, P<0.001], and the S wave amplitude in V5 was significantly higher compared to female group [(1.304±1.356) vs. (0.648±0.663) mv, P<0.001]. Their heart rate-corrected QT interval (QTc), QRS axis, S wave amplitude in Ⅰ, S and R wave amplitude in V1, R/S ratio in V1, S wave amplitude V5, all had a correlation with their PVR and the S wave amplitude in V1 was negatively correlated with PVR (r=-0.441, P<0.001). In the male group, PVR was not correlated with R/S ratio in V1 and S wave amplitude in V5. While PVR in the female group was significantly correlated with QTc, R wave amplitude in V1, R / S ratio in V1. In all PH patients, their P wave duration in Ⅱ, QRS axis and S wave amplitude in Ⅰ, S wave and R wave amplitude in V1, S wave amplitude in V5, QTc, R/S ratio in V1, all had correlations with mPAP (P<0.05). In male group, mPAP was not correlated with QTc, P wave duration in Ⅱ, and the S wave amplitude in V5 (P>0.05). The mPAP in the female group was only related to the S wave and R wave amplitude in V1, and S amplitude in Ⅰ and S wave amplitude in V5 (P<0.05). The CI was positively correlated with the S wave amplitude in V1 (r=0.34, P<0.001), and negatively correlated with the QRS axis (r=-0.219, P=0.04); CI in male group was not correlated with QRS axis(P=0.073), but correlated with QTc (r=-0.296, P=0.044). Conclusion: There were gender differences in QRS duration and S wave amplitude in V5 in patients with pulmonary hypertension. The QRS axis and the S wave amplitude in V1 were related to the heart index. There was a difference in the correlation between ECG and PVR, mPAP and CI in patients of different genders with pulmonary hypertension.

[Treatment of subcutaneous fistula secondary to cerebrospinal fluid leakage in thoracic spinal stenosis cases]

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the treatment strategy for subcutaneous fistula secondary to cerebrospinal fluid leakage (CSFL) in thoracic spinal stenosis (TSS) cases.

METHODS

In the study, 186 CSFL cases diagnosed with TSS and operated in general spine group of Department of Orthopedics, Peking University Third Hospital from January 2005 to December 2014 were retrospectively reviewed, of which eleven had subcutaneous fistula secondary to CSFL and were regularly followed up. Treatment strategy for subcutaneous fistula depended on the severity of CSFL and the recovery rate of thoracic myelopathy. Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score was utilized to evaluate the neurologic status of these patients preoperatively and postoperatively. Statistical analysis was conducted between preoperative and postoperative JOA scores.

RESULTS

All of the 11 patients were regularly followed up for at least 24 months. Six of them had ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) combined with ossification of ligamentum flavum (OLF), all of them undertook "cave-in" 360° circumferential decompression of the spinal cord with instrumentation. Five cases had OLF only, and received En bloc resection of lamina and OLF and fixation. The follow-up period ranged from 30 months to 131 months, and averaged at (85±34) months. Preoperative symptoms lasted from 3 months to 8 years, and the median was 18 months. Drainages were placed for 2-6 days, and averaged at (4.2±1.1) days. Ten cases appeared with fever during the perioperative period, the maximum body temperature was (37.3-39.7) °C. Prolonged antibiotics were applied in two cases with high fever. Ten cases were treated with conservative methods, CSFL were completely absorbed during the follow-up time, of which compressive dressing was utilized in 8 cases, and punctures combined with compressive dressing were used in 2 cases. For only 1 case, conservative therapy failed and reoperation was required because of neurological deterioration arising from CSF pseudocyst. For these 11 cases, preoperative JOA score arose from (3.8±1.6) preoperatively to (8.9±1.2) at the end of the final follow-up, the recovery rate was 70.8%. No infection of wound or central nerve system were noticed, and neither were unhealing wound.

CONCLUSION

Most TSS cases with subcutaneous fistula secondary to CSFL could be cured by conservative methods, and reoperation is required only if myelopathy caused by cerebrospinal fluid pseudocyst is identified.

[A case report of primary ectopic meningioma on occipital subcutaneous soft tissue]

A 65 years old male patient found one lump (A) located in left occipital subcutaneous soft tissue, which was gradually enlarging since thirty years ago. And the patient found another lump (B) located in left shoulder since five years ago. The pathological results showed typical features and immunophenotype of (A) lump resembling intracranial meningothelial meningioma, and (B) lump was a lipoma. No local recurrence or metastasis could been found for 2 months after excision.

Impact of fomesafen on the soil microbial communities in soybean fields in Northeastern China

Fomesafen, a widely adopted residual herbicide, is used throughout the soybean region of northern China for the spring planting. However, the ecological risks of using fomesafen in soil remain unknown. The aim of this work was to evaluate the impact of fomesafen on the microbial community structure of soil using laboratory and field experiments. Under laboratory conditions, the application of fomesafen at concentrations of 3.75 and 37.5mg/kg decreased the basal respiration (RB) and microbial biomass carbon (MBC). In contrast, treatment with 375mg/kg of fomesafen resulted in a significant decrease in the RB, MBC, abundance of both Gram+ and Gram- bacteria, and fungal biomass. Analysis of variance showed that the treatment accounted for most of the variance (38.3%) observed in the soil microbial communities. Furthermore, the field experiment showed that long-term fomesafen application in continuously cropped soybean fields affected the soil bacterial community composition by increasing the relative average abundance of Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria species and decreasing the abundance of Verrucomicrobia species. In addition, Acidobacteria and Chloroflexi species showed a pattern of activation-inhibition. Taken together, our results suggest that the application of fomesafen can affect the community structure of soil bacteria in the spring planting soybean region of northern China.

[Clinical comparison of polymethylmethacrylate and bone cement in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures: a retrospective study]

OBJECTIVE

To analyze the outcomes of patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures treated with polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and GeneX bone cement in percutaneous kyphoplasty and to provide guidance in selecting the vertebral filling material for this procedure.

METHODS

In this study, 86 patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures treated at Peking University Third Hospital between June 2012 and June 2013 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were followed-up with questionnaires and X-ray and CT examinations after 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. Postoperative conditions, including recovery rate of vertebral height, recovery rate of vertebral Cobb angle, CT data, reductions in visual analogue scale (VAS) and Oswestry scores, and postoperative complications, were evaluated. The results were analyzed using SPSS 18.0.

RESULTS

According to the rank sum test, there were significant differences in the recovery rate of vertebral height, vertebral Cobb angle and vertebral volume between the two groups after 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year (P<0.05). The GeneX group had greater losses in vertebral height, Cobb angle and volume than did the PMMA group. The PMMA group had 3 cases of cement leakage and 1 case of an adjacent vertebral fracture after percutaneous kyphoplasty. The GeneX group had 2 cases of cement leakage.

CONCLUSION

GeneX bone cement is similar to PMMA in terms of postoperative pain relief. As the filling material in percutaneous kyphoplasty, it is effective at maintaining vertebral height, quickly improves strength and stiffness of the vertebral body and has fewer complications. However, it is not satisfactory in maintaining long-term postoperative vertebral height. GeneX bone cement can be used as the filling material for patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures in percutaneous kyphoplasty. Patients with severe osteoporosis and vertebral compression should be treated with standardized osteoporosis treatment and should try to avoid early postoperative walking exercises. Sustained vertebral filling materials, such as PMMA, are more suitable for such patients. Research into better biodegradable materials is still needed.

[Genetic analysis of a pedigree with primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy]

Objective: To analyze the clinical and genetic features of primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (PHO). Methods: The clinical data of one Chinese pedigree of PHO, namely pachydermoperiostosis (PDP) were collected.Blood samples were drawn from the propositus and other family members.DNA was extracted and genetic analysis was performed by Sanger method after PCR.The sequencing data of HPGD gene exons were analyzed by alignment with sequences from National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). Results: (1)The propositus represented symptoms in childhood including clubbing fingers, sweating, seborrhea, joint swelling and so on.Periosteal thickening and bone hyperplasia were found by X-ray. (2)The homozygous mutation named c. 310_311delCT in propositus, which located in the third exon of HPGD, was identified.His parents carried the same heterozygous mutation, while his sister did not inherit any mutation of this gene. (3)The prediction of spatial structure of proteins revealed that the mutant proteins had about 60% discrepancy compared with wild-type protein, losing a lot of motifs responsible for combining with coenzyms and prostaglandin E(2), as well as active sites of enzymes. Conclusions: The clinical manifestations and imaging findings are helpful to diagnose PDP. Moreover gene mutation analysis ensures the diagnosis.The structure and function of HPGD gene mutation induce 15-hydroxy prostaglandin dehydrogenase mutation, contributing to the occurrence of PDP.

Cholesterol, 24-Hydroxycholesterol, and 27-Hydroxycholesterol as Surrogate Biomarkers in Cerebrospinal Fluid in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's Disease: A Meta-Analysis

Abnormal cholesterol metabolism is an established feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is the fluid surrounding the central nervous system, and the protein and lipid content alterations in the CSF could be biomarkers for degenerative changes in the brain. The laboratory diagnosis of AD is limited to the analysis of three biomarkers in CSF: Aβ42, total tau, and phospho-tau. The purpose of this analysis is to systematically analyze the available data describing the biomarkers of cholesterol and its metabolites in the CSF of subjects with AD. MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central database were systematically queried to collect studies that have evaluated the markers of cholesterol and its metabolites in the CSF of subjects with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or AD and age-matched controls. Analysis of the published data shows that the levels of cholesterol are increased in MCI subjects; 24-hydroxycholesterol and 27-hydroxycholesterol are elevated in AD and MCI subjects compared to controls. There is a significant dysfunction of cholesterol metabolism in the CSF of AD subjects. This analysis indicates that in addition to the available biomarkers in the CSF, such as Aβ42, total tau, and phospho-tau, 24-hydroxycholesterol, 27-hydroxycholesterol, and cholesterol appear to be sensitive biomarkers for the evaluation of MCI and AD.

[Short-term outcomes of lung transplant recipients using organs from brain death donors]

Objective: To assess short-term outcomes after lung transplantation with organs procured following brain death. Methods: Between April 2015 and July 2016, all 17 recipients after lung transplantation using organs from brain death donors (DBD) at Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine were enrolled in this study. All patients were male, aging (60±7) years, including 11 chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, 5 idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, 1 silicosis. Seventeen donors were 16 males and 1 female, with 10 traumatic brain injury, 5 cerebrovascular accident and 2 sudden cardiac death. Of 17 recipients receiving DBD lung transplant, 16 were single lung transplant. Data were collected including intubation duration of mechanical ventilation, hospital length of stay, incidence of pulmonary infection bronchus anastomosis complications, primary graft dysfunction (PGD), and acute rejection, bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) as well as mortality of 90-day after lung transplantation. Results: Median duration of intubation were 2 (2) days (M(Q_R)) in recipients after lung transplantation. The incidence of pulmonary infection and bronchus anastomosis complications were 15/17 and 5/17, respectively. Median length of stay in hospital were 56 (19) days. The ratio of readmission 1 month after discharge were 10/17. Mortality of 90-day post-transplant were 2/17. The incidence of PGD and BOS were 1/17 and 2/17, respectively. Conclusion: Recipients with DBD lung transplantation have an acceptable survival during short-term follow-up, but with higher incidences of complications related to infection post-transplantation.

[Clinical analysis of cutaneous manifestations and related factors in patients with ulcerative colitis]

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the cutaneous manifestations in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and related factors.

METHODS

Patients admitted to Department of Gastroenterology Peking University First Hospital from January 1994 to December 2014 and diagnosed as UC were retrospectively enrolled in this study. Skin disorders were confirmed by the dermatologists. Clinical data were collected and compared between patients with and without cutaneous manifestations.

RESULTS

Among the total 373 UC patients, there were 34 cases (9.1%) with cutaneous manifestations, including 11 pyoderma gangrenosum, 8 erythema nodosum, 6 eczema, 3 psoriasis, 2 pemphigus, 1 granulomatous cheilitis, 1 ichthyosis, 1 acne rosacea, and 1 impetigo. The skin manifestations may occur after the diagnosis, simultaneously or even before the diagnosis of UC, which were 24, 7 and 3 patients respectively. The mean age in patients with skin lesions was (47.2±12.1) years, male to female ratio 0.79∶1. More patients with skin manifestations had severe activity of UC compared with non-skin group [50.0%(17/34) vs 25.1%(85/339), P=0.01]. In addition, the proportion of extensive colitis in skin lesion group was significantly higher than that in non-skin group [76.5%(26/34) vs 54.6%(185/339), P=0.04].

CONCLUSIONS

The cutaneous manifestations associated with UC are polymorphic, erythema nodosums and pyoderma gangrenosums are the most common skin lesions seen in UC patients. Skin lesions occur concurrently, pre or post the diagnosis of UC. Skin lesions in UC patients suggest more severe disease activity. Clinicians need to pay more attention to this group.

Correlation between Y chromosome microdeletion and male infertility

Dyszoospermia due to genetic factors is the leading cause of male infertility. To explore the correlation between azoospermia factor (AZF) microdeletion of the Y chromosome and male infertility, we evaluated AZF microdeletion on the long arm of the Y chromosome in 166 infertile males and 50 fertile males using multiplex polymerase chain reactions amplification and gel electrophoresis. The results demonstrated that 28 individuals had varying degrees of microdeletion in the AZF region (16.90%); 12 out of the 76 males with azoospermia and 16 out of the 90 males with oligospermia had AZF microdeletion. AZF microdeletion was not observed in any of the healthy controls. In addition, 53.60% of the AZF microdeletions occurred in the AZFc region. It can be concluded that AZF microdeletion on the long arm of the Y chromosome can result in male spermatogenesis dysfunction. Detection of AZF microdeletion can provide a theoretical basis for genetic counseling, as well as improve the diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

Thermal conductivity of the diamond-chain compound Cu₃(CO₃)₂(OH)₂

Thermal conductivity (κ) of a distorted spin diamond-chain system, Cu3(CO3)2(OH)2, is studied at low temperatures down to 0.3 K and in magnetic fields up to 14 T. In zero field, the κ(T) curve with heat current along the chain direction has very small magnitudes and shows a pronounced three-peak structure. The magnetic fields along and perpendicular to the chains change the κ strongly in a way having good correspondence to the changes of magnetic specific heat in fields. The data analysis based on the Debye model for phononic thermal conductivity indicates that the heat transport is due to phonons and the three-peak structure is caused by two resonant scattering processes by the magnetic excitations. In particular, the spin excitations of the chain subsystem are strongly scattering phonons rather than transporting heat.

Seroprevalence and risk factors for Toxoplasma gondii in sheep and goats in Jinzhou, Northeastern China

In the present study, serum samples from 402 sheep and 216 goats were collected from 5 counties in Jinzhou from August to October 2012 and antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii were detected by modified agglutination test (MAT). Overall, 104 (16.8%) had antibodies to T. gondii with antibody titres of 1:25 to 1:800. Seropositive samples were distributed in all the 5 counties and seroprevalences of T. gondii varied significantly with flock size, age and rearing system, but not with breed, gender and farm location. The seroprevalences in small farms (18.3%, 95/518, 95% confidence interval [CI], 15.0-21.7%) were statistically higher than that in large farms (9%, 9/100, 95% CI, 3.4-14.6%) (P < 0.05), older animals were statistically higher than that in younger animals (P < 0.01). The prevalence in extensively and semi intensively raised samples was statistically higher than that in intensively raised animals (P < 0.01). Small flock size and extensive rearing system are the potential risk factors for the prevalence of Toxoplasma infection in sheep and goats in Jinzhou. This is the first report of T. gondii infection in sheep and goats in Jinzhou, northeastern China, and of an association of seropositivity to T. gondii and the risk factors.

[Correlation analysis between the sagittal and coronal parameters of spino-pelvic in Lenke type 1 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis]

OBJECTIVE

To explore the relationship between spino-pelvic sagittal and coronal parameters in Lenke 1 group of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS).

METHODS

The subjects were retrospectively collected from 2005 to 2013. On the posteroanterior and lateral radiographs, apical vertebra (AV), Cobb angle of main thoracic curve (MT), pelvic incidence (PI), C7 translation ratio (C7TR) and other sagittal parameters were measured and recorded. Comparison and correlation studies were conducted between these parameters using specific softwares.

RESULTS

In the study, 51 subjects, including 18 males and 33 females, were recruited, aged (14.9±2.0) years averagely. The apical vertebra ranged from T7 to T11,with mean MT being 49.6°±16.7°, and mean PI 44.7°±6.7°. Significant correlation existed between PI and PT, SS, LL, as well as between LL and SS, TK (P <0.05). Significant differences were found in TK, LL and SS among the different LM groups, but no difference in the other sagittal parameters. AV had no significant correlation with any sagittal parameter. MT was significantly correlated with TK, LL and SS, but its correlation with PI was not significant.

CONCLUSION

Most of sagittal parameters were significantly correlated in Lenke 1 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, forming a regulation chain of spine-pelvic sagittal balance on the basis of PI. Significant correlation exists between some sagittal and coronal parameters.

Syntheses and luminescent properties of a copolymer of terbium-p-aminobenzoic acid-methacrylic acid and styrene

A reactive Tb(III) complex with p-aminobenzoic acid (p-ABA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) as ligands was synthesized. A novel copolymer was synthesized by free radical copolymerization of styrene and the reactive Tb(III) complex in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionitrile) (AIBN) as the initiator. IR and UV/Vis spectra indicate that the copolymer exhibited absorption from polystyrene and the complex. Thermogravimetric analysis indicates that the copolymer remained stable up to 357°C and the thermal stability was significantly improved in comparison with polymer matrix and the Tb(III) complex. The luminescent intensity of the synthetic terbium macromolecular complexes increased with increasing complex monomer content. Moreover, concentration quenching was not observed.

Chromodomain helicase/ATPase DNA binding protein 1-like protein expression predicts poor prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignancy with a high metastatic ability. Recent studies have implicated the role of chromodomain helicase/ATPase DNA binding protein 1-like (CHD1L) gene as a novel oncogene; however, the functional role of CHD1L in NPC remains unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical significance of CHD1L positivity in NPC. CHD1L protein expression was examined by performing western blot analysis of 30 fresh NPC tissues and conducting immunohistochemistry tests of 133 NPC samples between December 1, 2005 and December 1, 2009. The correlations of CHD1L expression status with clinicopathological features and prognosis were investigated. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that 88 of 133 (66.2%) paraffin-embedded NPC biopsies exhibited positive expression of CHD1L, but all non-cancerous nasopharyngeal specimens were negative for CHD1L expression. In addition, positive CHD1L expression was strongly associated with an advanced clinical stage (P=0.016), recurrence (P=0.002) and the metastasis status (P=0.031) of NPC. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis demonstrated that patients with CHD1L-positive NPC had significantly shorter overall survival (P<0.001). Furthermore, the multivariate analysis indicated that CHD1L protein expression was an independent prognostic factor for overall survival (hazard ratio, 7.916; 95% confidence interval, 2.067-16.034; P=0.003) in patients with NPC. These results indicate that CHD1L is a prognostic marker for NPC.

Deletion of the lmna gene induces growth delay and serum biochemical changes in C57BL/6 mice

The A-type lamin deficient mouse line (Lmna^−/−) has become one of the most frequently used models for providing insights into many different aspects of A-type lamin function. To elucidate the function of Lmna in the growth and metabolism of mice, tissue growth and blood biochemistry were monitored in Lmna-deficient mice, heterozygous (Lmna^+/−) and wide-type (Lmna^+/+) backcrossed to C57BL/6 background. At 4 weeks after birth, the weight of various organs of the Lmna^−/−, Lmna^+/− and Lmna^+/+ mice was measured. A panel of biochemical analyses consisting of 15 serological tests was examined. The results showed that Lmna deficient mice had significantly decreased body weight and increased the ratio of organ to body weight in most of tissues. Compared with Lmna^+/+ and Lmna^+/− mice, Lmna^−/− mice exhibited lower levels of ALP (alkaline phosphatase), Chol (cholesterol), CR (creatinine), GLU (glucose), HDL (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol) and higher levels of ALT (alanine aminotransferase) (p<0.05). Lmna^−/− mice displayed higher AST (aspartate aminotransferase) values and lower LDL (lowdensity lipoprotein cholesterol), CK-MB (creatine kinase-MB) levels than Lmna^+/+ mice (p<0.05). There were no significant differences among the three groups of mice with respect to BUN (blood urea nitrogen), CK (creatine kinase), Cyc C (cystatin C), TP (total protein), TG (triacylglycerols) and UA (uric acid) levels (p>0.05). These changes of serological parameters may provide an experimental basis for the elucidation of Lmna gene functions.

Polyethylene glycol: its adverse gastric effects in rats

The effects of polyethylene glycol (PEG) on gastric function and on lesion formation, evoked by topical applications of absolute ethanol to an ex-vivo stomach chamber preparation have been examined. Parenteral injection (i.p. or s.c.) of PEG with different molecular weights (PEG 300, 400 or 4000), dose-dependently reduced the gastric mucosal blood flow and volume of gastric secretion; these effects were greater in rats given PEG by the i.p. route, which also lowered acid output. Topical application of 1·5 mL absolute ethanol produced severe gastric mucosal injury, which was exacerbated by PEG; this lesion-aggravating effect was higher in the i.p.-injected groups. These findings indicate that when PEG is given by injection, it can adversely affect gastric function and increase the damaging action of alcohol. It is suggested that the use of PEG as a vehicle for injection should be re-assessed.

Activation of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/Akt-mammalian target of Rapamycin signaling pathway in the hippocampus is essential for the acquisition of morphine-induced place preference in rats

Hippocampus is a critical structure for the acquisition of morphine-induced conditioned place preference (CPP), which is a usual learning paradigm for assessing drug reward. However, the precise mechanisms remain largely unknown. Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) and its downstream targets, including Akt, mammalian target of Rapamycin (mTOR) and 70-kDa ribosomal S6 kinase (p70S6K), are critical molecules implicated in learning and memory. Here, we tested the role of PI3K/Akt-mTOR-p70S6K signaling pathway in morphine-induced CPP in the hippocampus. Our results showed that the acquisition of morphine CPP increased phosphorylation of Akt in the hippocampal CA3, but not in the nucleus accumbens (NAc), the ventral tegmental area (VTA) or the CA1. Moreover, the phosphorylated Akt exclusively expressed in the CA3 neurons. Likewise, levels of phosphorylated mTOR and p70S6K were significantly enhanced in the CA3 following morphine CPP. The alterations of these phosphorylated proteins are positively correlated with the acquisition of morphine CPP. More importantly, microinjection of PI3K inhibitor (LY294002) or mTOR inhibitor (Rapamycin) into the CA3 prevented the acquisition of CPP and inhibited the activation of PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. In addition, pre-infusion of β-FNA (β-funaltrexamine hydrochloride), a selective irreversible μ opioid receptor antagonist, into CA3 significantly prevented the acquisition of CPP and impaired Akt phosphorylation. All these results strongly implied that the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway activated by μ opioid receptor in hippocampal CA3 plays an important role in acquisition of morphine-induced CPP.

High dielectric loss in graphite-coated Ti nanocapsules

Graphite-coated Ti nanocapsules, with Ti nanoparticles as core and onion-like graphite layers as shell, have been prepared by a modified arc-discharge method in ethanol atmosphere, and characterized by means of X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The dielectric properties of the graphite-coated Ti nanocapsules have been investigated in the 2-18 GHz range. An equivalent circuit model was used to interpret the non-linear dielectric resonance behavior of the graphite-coated Ti nanocapsules. The high dielectric loss is mainly attributed to conductance loss and dipole-relaxation loss in the graphite-coated Ti nanocapsules. The graphite-coated Ti nanocapsules exhibit promising properties for application as a new type of shield or absorbent of electromagnetic waves.

Determination of Bromoxynil Octanoate in Soil and Corn by GC with Electron Capture and Mass Spectrometry Detection Under Field Conditions

In this paper, a simple, and rapid analysis of bromoxynil octanoate is reported for soil, corn leaves, and corn seeds by utilizing one-step liquid-liquid extraction and partitioning, followed by GC with electron capture (ECD) and mass spectrometry (MS) detection. The method was validated by recovery experiments and assessment of matrix effects. Recoveries for GC-ECD and GC/MS were 82.3110.7 with a relative standard deviation of &lt;14 using matrix-matched calibration solutions for quantification. The limit of quantitation (LOQ) values were 0.005 and 0.2 mg/kg for the ECD and MS detector, respectively, depending on the sensitivity of the target compound. The concentration levels for bromoxynil octanoate residue found in soil, corn leaves, and corn seeds from field experiments were clearly below the LOQ of the ECD detector. The half-life times of bromoxynil octanoate were 2.24.2 days in soil and corn leaves. These results indicated that the developed method was appropriate for analysis of bromoxynil octanoate in soil and corn samples.

[Study on testing methods of Al content of polyimide hybrid films with Al2O3]

The inorganic particles hybrid polyimide films are newly emerging advanced materials with excellent corona-resistant and have been widely used in frequency control motor. The Al2O3/PI hybrid films with different Al2O3 contents were prepared by superfine aluminum power treated by coupling agent and polyamide acid (PAA). Qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis on the inorganic content to it were conducted using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscope (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP), Gravimetric method, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TG/air atmosphere). It was found that FTIR and XPS are good qualitative analysis methods. FTIR is used to inference possible components by analyzing the structure of material. The method has a lot of advantages such as easily operational, good repeatability, high accuracy and so on. XPS is mainly used to get information of elements contained in the material, it provides information about the core level binding energies and oxidation states of complexes. It can be used to identify the species and valence states of elements, measure the relative content of elements. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) of XPS and TG are too great to perform quantitative analysis, the RSDs of XPS are all above 5.0%, and TG's RSDs are also above 2.0%. So they can be only used as semiquantitative analysis methods. On the contrary, ICP and Gravimetric method are two excellent quantitative analysis methods, their RSDs are all below 1.0%. Moreover Gravimetric method only can be used to analyze single inorganic constituent complex material, although its measured value is closest approach to theoretical value. ICP is the most accurate method and it can be used to analyze multi inorganic components in complex material, this method proved to be easily operational, rapid, highly sensitive, and accurate, and can be adopted as the method of determining many elements simultaneously. So a method was got to analysis of inorganic constituent in complex material from the conclusion upward. Firstly, components in complex material are defined by using FTIR and XPS as qualitative analysis methods and then using the result of XPS as a reference, exactly quantitative analysis of inorganic constituent in complex material was performed by using Gravimetric method and ICP.

Determination of mepiquat chloride residues in cotton and soil by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry

A liquid chromatographic/mass spectrometric (LC/MS) method is reported for the determination of the onium-type plant growth regulator mepiquat chloride in cotton and soil. The pesticide was extracted from the sample with ethanol and water containing 2% NH4Cl. The extract was cleaned up on a solid-phase extraction C18 column, and the pesticide was determined by LC/MS. The average recoveries were 85.9-93.8, 81.3-91.7, and 78.1-94.7%, with corresponding relative standard deviations of 3.4-9.6, 3.7-12.3, and 4.0-9.8%, from soil, cotton leaves, and cotton seeds, respectively. A coefficient of determination of R2 = 0.9964 was obtained for the analyte calibration graph, from 0.05 to 100 microg/mL. Decision limits, CCalpha, and detection capability, CCbeta, were calculated. Electrospray ionization LC/MS in the positive-ion mode (ESI+) was used to detect mepiquat chloride in extracts of soil, cotton leaves, and cotton seeds. The ion at m/z 114 in the mass spectrum was monitored.
