Abstract
BACKGROUND Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) affects > 300 million people worldwide. The combination of CHB and cardiometabolic co-morbidities increases the risk of liver-related morbidity and mortality. However, international guidelines for CHB treatment do not provide recommendations for follow-up examinations or treatment of patients with CHB and cardiometabolic comorbidities. In studies investigating cardiometabolic co-morbidity in patients with CHB, inconsistent findings have been observed, and both lower and higher prevalence of cardiometabolic co-morbidities compared to the general population have been reported. It is unclear whether patients with CHB living in Denmark have an increased prevalence of cardiometabolic co-morbidities. AIM To investigate the prevalence of cardiometabolic comorbidities in patients with CHB and matched non-CHB comparison group. METHODS We examined patients with CHB and age-, sex-, body mass index (BMI)-, and country-of-birth matched comparison group. Defining cardiometabolic co-morbidity: Obesity (BMI > 25 kg/m2/abnormal waist-to-hip ratio), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), hypercholesterolemia (total-cholesterol > 5 mmol/L/statin use), hypertension (systolic ≥ 135 mmHg/ diastolic ≥ 85 mmHg/antihypertensive medication) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) (2-hour oral glucose tolerance test glucose > 11.1 mmol/L/HbA1c > 48 mmol/mol/ antidiabetic medication). Physical activity was evaluated using maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max), activity monitors, and a questionnaire. RESULTS We included 98 patients with CHB and 49 persons in the comparison group. The two groups were well-matched, showing no significant differences in age, sex, BMI, country-of-birth, education, or employment. Among patients with CHB, the following prevalence of cardiometabolic co-morbidity was found: 77% were obese, 45% had MASLD, 38% had hypercholesterolemia, 26% had hypertension, and 7% had T2D, which did not differ significantly from the comparison group, apart from lower prevalence of hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) ≥ 48 mmol/L or known T2D. Both groups had low VO2max of 27 mL/kg/minute in the patients with CHB and 30 mL/kg/minute in the comparison group, and the patients with CHB had a shorter self-assessed sitting time. CONCLUSION The patients with CHB and the comparison group were well-matched and had a similar prevalence of cardiometabolic comorbidities. Furthermore, both groups had low levels of physical fitness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic disease of impaired glucose utilization and a major cause of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The pathogenesis of both diseases shares common risk factors and mechanisms, and both are significant contributors to global morbidity and mortality. Supplements of natural products for T2D mellitus (T2DM) and CVD can be seen as a potential preventive and effective therapeutic strategy. AIM To critically evaluate the therapeutic potential of natural products in T2D and coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS By using specific keywords, we strategically searched the PubMed database. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were searched as the primary focus that examined the effect of natural products on glycemic control, oxidative stress, and antioxidant levels. We focused on outcomes such as low blood glucose levels, adjustment on markers of oxidative stress and antioxidants. After screening full-length papers, we included 9 RCTs in our review that met our inclusion criteria. RESULTS In the literature search on the database, we found that various natural products like plant secondary metabolites play a diverse role in the management of CAD. American ginseng, sesame oil and cocoa flavanols proved effective in lowering blood glucose levels and controlling blood pressure, which are key factors in managing T2DM and CVD. In diabetic patients Melissa officinalis effectively reduce inflammation and shows diabetes prevention. Both fish oil and flaxseed oil reduced insulin levels and inflammatory markers, suggesting benefits for both conditions. The lipid profile and endothelial function were enhanced by Nigella sativa oil and Terminalia chebula, which is significant for the management of cardiovascular risk factors in T2DM. Additionally Bilberry extract also showed promise for improving glycemic control in patients with T2DM. CONCLUSION The high level of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-angiogenic properties found in natural products makes them promising therapeutic options for the management of CAD, with the potential benefit of lowering the risk of CAD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Endoscopic retrograde pancreatic drainage (ERPD) and stent implantation has become the major treatment method for pancreatic pseudocysts. However, it is associated with a high recurrence rate and infection. AIM To manage pancreatic pseudocysts by sequential therapy with endoscopic naso-pancreatic drainage (ENPD) combined with ERPD and evaluate the treatment outcome. METHODS One hundred and sixty-two cases of pancreatic pseudocyst confirmed by endoscopic examination at our hospital between January 2014 and January 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 152 cases of intubation via the duodenal papilla, of which 92 involved pancreatic duct stent implantation and 60 involved sequential therapy with combined ENPD and ERPD (two-step procedure). The success rate of the procedure, incidence of complications (infection, bleeding, etc.), recurrence, and length and cost of hospitalization were compared between the two groups. RESULTS The incidence of infection was significantly higher in the ERPD group (12 cases) than in the two-step procedure group (2 cases). Twelve patients developed infection in the ERPD group, and anti-infection therapy was effective in five cases but not in the remaining seven cases. Infection presented as fever and chills in the two-step procedure group. The reoperation rate was significantly higher in the ERPD group with seven cases compared with zero cases in the two-step procedure group (P < 0.05). Similarly, the recurrence rate was significantly higher in the ERPD group (19 cases) than in the two-step procedure group (0 cases). CONCLUSION Sequential therapy with combined ENPD and ERPD is safe and effective in patients with pancreatic pseudocysts.

Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the performance of six distinct Z-score formulas in diagnosing coronary artery dilation in Kawasaki disease (KD) patients, with a focus on their clinical applicability across diverse populations. A retrospective analysis was conducted using comparative statistical methods to assess the sensitivity and specificity of each formula. The Kobayashi and Dallaire formulas demonstrated the highest sensitivity in China, particularly in younger patients with prolonged fever duration. Our findings provide evidence-based recommendations for selecting Z-score formulas to optimize diagnostic precision in KD patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Duplication of the extrahepatic bile duct (DCBD) is an extremely rare congenital anomaly of the biliary system. There are five types of DCBD according to the latest classification. Among them, Type V is characterized by single drainage of the extrahepatic bile ducts. Reports on DCBD Type V are scarce.
CASE SUMMARY A 77-year-old woman presented with recurrent epigastric pain but without fever or chills. Computed tomography revealed a dilated common bile duct (CBD) that harboured multiple choledocholithiasis. Endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) was performed, and the stones were extracted using a Dormia basket. She was discharged without any complications; however, she visited the emergency department a day after she was discharged due to epigastric pain and fever. Laboratory findings were suggestive of cholestasis. After urgent ERCP for stone removal, magnetic resonance cholangiopancrea-tography was performed to evaluate remnant choledocholithiasis. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography revealed a DCBD Type Va and remnant choledocholithiasis in the right CBD. Both CBDs were accessed, and the stones were cleared successfully during a subsequent ERCP.
CONCLUSION In this article, we report an extremely rare case of DCBD manifesting as recurrent pyogenic cholangitis. This case highlights the importance of recognizing DCBD because stones in the unrecognized bile duct could make the patient’s prognosis critical.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastric cancer is a global health concern that poses a significant threat to human well-being. AIM To detecting serum changes in carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), carbohydrate antigens (CA) 724, CA242, and CA19-9 expression among patients with gastric cancer. METHODS Eighty patients diagnosed with gastric cancer between January 2020 and January 2023 were included in the observation group, while 80 patients with benign gastric diseases were included in the control group. Both groups were tested for tumor markers (CA724, CEA, CA242, and CA19-9]. Tumor marker indicators (CA724, CEA, CA242, and CA19-9) were compared between the two groups, assessing positive rates of tumor markers across various stages in the observation group. Additionally, single and combined detection of various tumor markers were examined. RESULTS The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value observed for the combined detection of CA724, CEA, CA242, and CA19-9 were higher than those of CA724, CEA, CA242, and CA19-9 individually. Therefore, the combined detection of CA724, CEA, CA242, and CA19-9 has a high diagnostic accuracy and could reduce the occurrence of missed or misdiagnosed cases, facilitating the early diagnosis and treatment of patients. CONCLUSION CA724, CEA, CA242, and CA19-9 serum levels in gastric cancer patients significantly surpassed those in non-gastric cancer patients (P < 0.05). Their combined detection can improve the diagnostic accuracy for gastric cancer, warranting clinical promotion.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) modulated by various exogenous signals have been applied extensively in regenerative medicine research. Notably, nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEFs), characterized by short duration and high strength, significantly influence cell phenotypes and regulate MSCs differentiation via multiple pathways. Consequently, we used transcriptomics to study changes in messenger RNA (mRNA), long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), microRNA (miRNA), and circular RNA expression during nsPEFs application. AIM To explore gene expression profiles and potential transcriptional regulatory mechanisms in MSCs pretreated with nsPEFs. METHODS The impact of nsPEFs on the MSCs transcriptome was investigated through whole transcriptome sequencing. MSCs were pretreated with 5-pulse nsPEFs (100 ns at 10 kV/cm, 1 Hz), followed by total RNA isolation. Each transcript was normalized by fragments per kilobase per million. Fold change and difference significance were applied to screen the differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses were performed to elucidate gene functions, complemented by quantitative polymerase chain reaction verification. RESULTS In total, 263 DEGs were discovered, with 92 upregulated and 171 downregulated. DEGs were predominantly enriched in epithelial cell proliferation, osteoblast differentiation, mesenchymal cell differentiation, nuclear division, and wound healing. Regarding cellular components, DEGs are primarily involved in condensed chromosome, chromosomal region, actin cytoskeleton, and kinetochore. From aspect of molecular functions, DEGs are mainly involved in glycosaminoglycan binding, integrin binding, nuclear steroid receptor activity, cytoskeletal motor activity, and steroid binding. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction confirmed targeted transcript regulation. CONCLUSION Our systematic investigation of the wide-ranging transcriptional pattern modulated by nsPEFs revealed the differential expression of 263 mRNAs, 2 miRNAs, and 65 lncRNAs. Our study demonstrates that nsPEFs may affect stem cells through several signaling pathways, which are involved in vesicular transport, calcium ion transport, cytoskeleton, and cell differentiation.

Abstract
Autologous blood therapy has emerged as a promising modality in managing ocular surface disorders. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current literature regarding the use of autologous blood in ocular surface disorders, encompassing its physiological basis, clinical applications, techniques, challenges, and future perspectives. The ocular surface, comprising the cornea, conjunctiva, and tear film, plays a critical role in maintaining visual function, and its disruption can lead to various pathological conditions. With its rich composition of growth factors, cytokines, and other bioactive molecules, autologous blood offers therapeutic potential in promoting corneal wound healing, reducing inflammation, and improving tear film stability. Clinical studies have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of autologous blood therapy in diverse ocular surface disorders, including persistent epithelial defects, neurotrophic keratopathy, and dry eye disease. However, challenges such as variability in treatment response, adverse effects, and optimal patient selection remain areas of concern. Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of action, refine treatment protocols, and explore synergistic approaches with other therapeutic modalities. Despite these challenges, autologous blood therapy holds promise as a valuable adjunctive treatment option for ocular surface disorders, offering new avenues for improving patient outcomes and quality of life. This review examines the mechanisms underlying ocular surface disorders while discussing existing autologous blood-based therapies for managing these disorders. Current clinical trials are also summarized, and a comparison between autologous blood therapy and conventional eyedrops is attempted. Finally, safe techniques and protocols for autologous blood medicine are elucidated, and adverse effects and future perspectives of this novel therapy are reviewed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Bioabsorbable interference screws are a widely used option for graft fixation in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Their ability to degrade over time and avoid secondary hardware removal makes them advantageous. However, complications such as breakage and intra-articular migration of screws can cause significant clinical issues, including joint pain, swelling, and cartilage damage. Early diagnosis and management are critical in such cases.
CASE SUMMARY A 26-year-old male presented with knee pain and swelling one year after ACL reconstruction using a hamstring graft and bioabsorbable tibial interference screw. The patient had been engaged in rigorous physical activity as part of military training. Clinical examination revealed mild effusion without instability, and imaging showed screw breakage with intra-articular migration. Therapeutic arthroscopy confirmed intact graft tension, and broken screw fragments were removed successfully. The patient resumed normal activity two weeks after surgery.
CONCLUSION This case highlights the potential complications associated with bioabsorbable screws, emphasizing the need for meticulous surgical technique, postoperative monitoring, and timely intervention. A comprehensive review of the literature illustrates the mechanisms, risk factors, and preventive strategies associated with screw-related complications.

Abstract
The gut microbiota works in unison with the host, promoting its health. In particular, it has been shown to exert protective, metabolic and structural functions. Recent evidence has revealed the influence of the gut microbiota on other organs such as the central nervous system, cardiovascular and the endocrine-metabolic systems and the digestive system. The study of the gut microbiota is outlining new and broader frontiers every day and holds enormous innovation potential for the medical and pharmaceutical fields. Prevention and treatment of specific women's diseases involves the need to deepen the function of the gut as a junction organ where certain positive bacteria can be very beneficial to health. The gut microbiota is unique and dynamic at the same time, subject to external factors that can change it, and is capable of modulating itself at different stages of a woman's life, playing an important role that arises from the intertwining of biological mechanisms between the microbiota and the female genital system. The gut microbiota could play a key role in personalized medicine.

Abstract
Prophylactic drains have always been a useful tool to detect early complications and prevent postoperative fluid collections, particularly in gastrointestinal surgery. Recently, the utilization of such drains has been debated, due to mounting evidence that they could be harmful rather than beneficial. Based on recent published articles, Liu et al reported that the routine use of prophylactic drains in total laparoscopic distal gastrectomy might not be necessary for all patients. Herein, we express our opinion regarding this interesting publication.

Abstract
The complement system is crucial for maintaining immunological homeostasis in the liver, playing a significant role in both innate and adaptive immune responses. Dysregulation of this system is closely linked to the pathogenesis of various liver diseases. Modulating the complement system can affect the progression of these conditions. To provide insights into treating liver injury by targeting the regulation of the complement system, we conducted a comprehensive search of major biomedical databases, including MEDLINE, PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science, to identify articles on complement and liver injury and reviewed the functions and mechanisms of the complement system in liver injury.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Primary hepatic neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) is rare, and a combination with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is extremely rare. To date, only four combination cases have been reported. The present paper describes the fifth patient. CASE SUMMARY A 32-year-old Chinese man with chronic hepatitis B was hospitalized for persistent upper abdominal pain. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) examination revealed a liver mass. The tumor was located in the 7th and 8th segments of the liver, and CT and magnetic resonance imaging findings were consistent with the diagnosis of HCC. Laboratory examinations revealed the following: Alanine aminotransferase, 243 U/L; aspartate aminotransferase, 167 U/L; alpha-fetoprotein, 4519 μg/L. Laparoscopic right lobe hepatectomy was performed on the liver mass. Postoperative pathology showed low differentiation HCC plus medium and low differentiation CCA combined with NEC. One month after the surgery, the patient suffered from epigastric pain again. Liver metastasis was detected by CT, and tumor transcatheter arterial chemoembolization was performed. Unfortunately, the liver tumor was progressively increased and enlarged, and after 1 mo, the patient died of liver failure. CONCLUSION This is a rare case, wherein the tumor is highly aggressive, grows rapidly, and metastasizes in a short period. Imaging and laboratory tests can easily misdiagnose or miss such cases; thus, the final diagnosis relies on pathology.

Abstract
Liver metastases can appear in different forms in magnetic resonance imaging. Contrary to popular belief, while radiologists report hypovascular or hypervascular metastatic lesions, exceptional examples may be detected in various tumors. The aim of this article is to improve this review by presenting rare and atypical examples of liver metastasis, as well as cases that might potentially be misdiagnosed as metastases during the process of differential diagnosis.

Abstract
Today, in parallel with the use of imaging modalities increases in all fields, the use of imaging methods in pregnant women is increasing. Imaging has become an integral component of routine pregnancy follow-up. Imaging provides parents with an early opportunity to learn about the current situation, including prenatal detection of anomalies or diseases, etiology, prognosis, and the availability of prenatal or postnatal treatments. Various imaging modalities, especially ultrasonography, are frequently used for imaging both maternal and fetal imaging. The goal of this review was to address imaging modalities in terms of usefulness and safety, as well as to provide demonstrative examples for disorders. And this review provides current information on selecting a safe imaging modality to evaluate the pregnant and the fetus, the safety of contrast medium use, and summarizes major pathological situations with demonstrative sonographic images to assist radiologists and obstetricians in everyday practice.

Although gallstones are relatively common diseases, its association with thromboembolism is not fully understood. We aim to emphasize the potential mechanism of this relationship in this letter. In addition, we wanted to contribute to the causes of the spleen infarction and celiac trunk pathologies.

Abstract
The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) mortality rate in 55 African countries is almost 4.5 times lower than in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) despite Africa having over 4.2 times more people. This mortality paradox is also evident when comparing Nigeria, a heavily populated, poorly vaccinated and weakly mandated country to Israel, a small, highly vaccinated and strictly mandated country. Nigeria has almost 4 times lower COVID mortality than Israel. In this Field of Vision perspective, I explain how this paradox has evolved drawing upon my academic, clinical and social experience. Since April 2020, I've developed and been using the Egyptian immune-modulatory Kelleni's protocol to manage COVID-19 patients including pediatric, geriatric, pregnant, immune-compromised and other individuals suffering from multiple comorbidities. It's unfortunate that severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 is still evolving accompanied by more deaths. However in Africa, we've been able to live without anxiety or mandates throughout the pandemic because we trust science and adopted early treatment using safe, and effective repurposed drugs that have saved the majority of COVID-19 patients. This article represents an African and Egyptian tale of honor.

Abstract
In this article, we evaluate the findings of the study by Qian et al, which explores the efficacy of combining hyperthermia with opioid therapy for enhanced cancer pain management in patients with middle and late-stage gastrointestinal tumors. The study undertakes a retrospective analysis comparing traditional opioid therapy to an integrated approach of hyperthermia and opioids across 70 patients, highlighting significant benefits in pain control, reduction of opioid dosage, and minimization of adverse reactions. In our article, we not only discuss these findings but also emphasize the broader implications for clinical practice, particularly in enhancing patient outcomes through innovative pain management strategies. We advocate for further research to establish more robust data supporting this approach and to explore the mechanistic insights that enable these benefits. This discussion reflects on the potential paradigm shift in managing debilitating cancer-related pain, urging a reevaluation of current practices to incorporate these findings effectively.

Abstract
The increasing popularity of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) as a treatment for early gastric cancer has highlighted the importance of quality assessment in achieving curative resections. This article emphasizes the significance of evaluating ESD quality, not only for curative cases but also for non-curative ones. Postoperative assessment relies on the endoscopic curability (eCura) classification, but management strategies for eCuraC-1 tumour with a positive horizontal margin are unclear. Current research primarily focuses on comparing additional surgical procedures in high-risk patients, while studies specifically targeting eCuraC-1 patients are limited. Exploring management strategies and follow-up outcomes for such cases could provide valuable insights. Furthermore, the application of molecular imaging using near-infrared fluorescent tracers holds promise for precise tumour diagnosis and navigation, potentially impacting the management of early-stage gastric cancer patients. Advancing research in these areas is essential for improving the overall efficacy of endoscopic techniques and refining treatment indications.

Abstract
The circadian rhythm in humans is determined by the central clock located in the hypothalamus's suprachiasmatic nucleus, and it synchronizes the peripheral clocks in other tissues. Circadian clock genes and clock-controlled genes exist in almost all cell types. They have an essential role in many physiological processes, including lipid metabolism in the liver, regulation of the immune system, and the severity of infections. In addition, circadian rhythm genes can stimulate the immune response of host cells to virus infection. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is the leading cause of liver disease and liver cancer globally. HBV infection depends on the host cell, and hepatocyte circadian rhythm genes are associated with HBV replication, survival, and spread. The core circadian rhythm proteins, REV-ERB and brain and muscle ARNTL-like protein 1, have a crucial role in HBV replication in hepatocytes. In addition to influencing the virus's life cycle, the circadian rhythm also affects the pharmacokinetics and efficacy of antiviral vaccines. Therefore, it is vital to apply antiviral therapy at the appropriate time of day to reduce toxicity and improve the effectiveness of antiviral treatment. For these reasons, understanding the role of the circadian rhythm in the regulation of HBV infection and host responses to the virus provides us with a new perspective of the interplay of the circadian rhythm and anti-HBV therapy. Therefore, this review emphasizes the importance of the circadian rhythm in HBV infection and the optimization of antiviral treatment based on the circadian rhythm-dependent immune response.

Abstract
Pancreatic cysts are mostly incidental findings on computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging scans, with few patients presenting with abdominal pain or other symptoms. The accurate diagnosis of cysts is important as management depends on the type (neoplastic or non-neoplastic). Cross-sectional imaging is fast being replaced with endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and various techniques based on that such as EUS-guided fine needle aspiration, EUS-guided needle confocal laser endomicroscopy, EUS-through-the-needle biopsy, and contrast-enhanced EUS. Clinical studies have reported varying diagnostic and adverse event rates with these modalities. In addition, American, European, and Kyoto guidelines for the diagnosis and management of pancreatic cysts have provided different recommendations. In this editorial, we elaborate on the clinical guidelines, recent studies, and comparison of different endoscopic methods for the diagnosis of pancreatic cysts.

Abstract
Recent decades have seen a concerning surge in carcinogenic diseases, with cancer cases and deaths on the rise globally. Conventional diagnostic methods are often invasive and time-consuming, highlighting the need for fast, accurate, and painless alternatives. Non-invasive exhaled breath analysis emerges as a promising solution, with over 200 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detected in exhaled air, showing potential as biomarkers for various diseases, including cancer. Despite the lack of standardized methodologies, advancements in analytical instruments have expanded detection capabilities, reaching 3500 VOCs. Studies have identified specific VOC patterns associated with different cancers, offering hope for non-invasive diagnosis. Techniques such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and electronic noses show promise in distinguishing between healthy individuals and cancer patients. However, further research and standardization are needed to realize the full clinical potential of breath-based diagnostics, particularly in the early detection of challenging cancers like pancreatic cancer.

Abstract
AIM: To evaluate short-term outcomes following intraoperative biliary lavage for hepatolithiasis.
METHODS: A total of 932 patients who were admitted to the West China Medical Center of Sichuan University between January 2010 and January 2014 and underwent bile duct exploration and lithotomy were retrospectively included in our study. The patients were divided into the lavage group and the control group. Related pre-, intra-, and postoperative factors were recorded, analyzed, and compared between the two groups in order to verify the effects of biliary lavage on the short-term outcome of patients with hepatolithiasis.
RESULTS: Amongst the patients who were included, 678 patients with hepatolithiasis were included in the lavage group, and the other 254 patients were enrolled in the control group. Data analyses revealed that preoperative baseline and related intraoperative variables were not significantly different. However, patients who underwent intraoperative biliary lavage had prolonged postoperative hospital stays (6.67 d vs 7.82 d, P = 0.024), higher hospitalization fees (RMB 28437.1 vs RMB 32264.2, P = 0.043), higher positive rates of bacterial cultures from blood (13.3% vs 25.8%, P = 0.001) and bile (23.6% vs 40.7%, P = 0.001) samples, and increased usage of advanced antibiotics (26.3% vs 38.2%, P = 0.001). In addition, in the lavage group, more patients had fever (> 37.5 °C, 81.4% vs 91.1%, P = 0.001) and hyperthermia (> 38.5°C,39.7% vs 54.9%, P = 0.001), and higher white blood cell counts within 7 d after the operation compared to the control group.
CONCLUSION: Intraoperative biliary lavage might increase the risk of postoperative infection, while not significantly increasing gallstone removal rate.
