Abstract
OBJECTIVES Chronic diseases contribute significantly to healthy years lost (HYLs). It is critical to investigate which are the most contributing diseases to enable enhancing health programs' effectiveness in improving health expectancy. This paper investigates disease-specific contributions to years lived with chronic diseases in Algeria and examines their recent evolution. METHODS We used morbidity data from the last three waves of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys of 2006, 2012-13, and 2018-19. The studied chronic diseases included hypertension, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), joint diseases, respiratory diseases, and diabetes. We calculated disease-specific contributions using the cause-deleted health expectancy approach. Then, we analyzed time changes and gender-based differences in contributions. RESULTS The leading cause of HYLs in women is hypertension, followed by diabetes, joint diseases, CVDs, and respiratory diseases. The same ranking applies to men, with joint diseases coming last. The time evolution of relative disease-specific contributions shows an increase in CVDs for women and diabetes for both genders, against a decrease for the other diseases. DISCUSSION To improve chronic disease-free life expectancy in Algeria, effective prevention programs must be implemented, with an emphasis on hypertension and diabetes. Further investigation into the risk factors affecting the prevalence and incidence of these diseases is also required.

Abstract
Background Diarrhea is a leading cause of illness and mortality among children under five, posing a significant public health challenge in Malawi. The current study assesses the prevalence and risk factors linked to diarrhea among under-five children in Malawi. Method The researcher used the Malawi Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2019-20 as the dataset for this study. Due to the complex sampling design, survey logistic regression was used to accomplish the study objectives. The sample size was 15569 children who were aged under five. Results The study found that the prevalence of diarrhea was 24.9%, with a higher percentage observed among children aged 12-23 months (38.5%) compared to other age groups. Additionally, children from the southern region had a higher prevalence of diarrhea at 27% compared to those from the northern region at 19.3%. Children from the poorest households also had a higher prevalence of diarrhea at 28.9% compared to those from the richest households at 22.6%. Furthermore, children with fever had a higher prevalence of diarrhea at 33.3% compared to those who did not have fever at 19.4%. Conclusion The current study concluded that the prevalence of diarrhea was higher among children aged 12-23 months. Subsequently, policymakers should apply policies to reduce this high prevalence among this age group of children. In addition, the government needs special consideration in diarrhea control for children from the southern region because of the high prevalence of the disease compared to the other regions in Malawi. My study can help policymakers understand the scope and nature of the problem, which can notify the development of policies and programs intended to decrease the prevalence of risk factors and enhance child health outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Malnutrition-inflammation complex syndrome (MICS) is highly prevalent in patients undergoing hemodialysis. We determined the prognostic value of the Simple MICS score, calculated using a combination of age, body mass index, and serum concentrations of albumin, creatinine, and C-reactive protein. METHODS We retrospectively recruited 218 Japanese patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. The primary outcome was all-cause mortality, and the main exposure was the Simple MICS score. Cox proportional hazard regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to characterize the relationship between the Simple MICS score and mortality. RESULTS During a median 4.4-year follow-up period, 56 patients died. Multivariable-adjusted models showed that a higher Simple MICS score was associated with higher risks of mortality. The predictability for all-cause mortality of the Simple MICS score was significantly better than conventional nutrition-related indices. CONCLUSION The Simple MICS score can be used to stratify mortality risk in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis.

Abstract
Pressure monitoring in various organs of the body is essential for appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. In almost all situations, monitoring is performed in a hospital setting. Technological advances not only promise to improve clinical pressure monitoring systems, but also engage toward the development of fully implantable systems in ambulatory patients. Such systems would not only provide longitudinal time monitoring to healthcare personnel, but also to the patient who could adjust their way-of-life in response to the measurements. In the past years, we have developed a new type of piezoresistive pressure sensor system. Different bench tests have demonstrated that it delivers precise and reliable pressure measurements in real-time. The potential of this system was confirmed by a continuous recording in a patient that lasted for almost a day. In the present study, we further characterized the functionality of this sensor system by conducting in vivo implantation experiments in nine female farm pigs. To get a step closer to a fully implantable system, we also adapted two different wireless communication solutions to the sensor system. The communication protocols are based on MICS (Medical Implant Communication System) and BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) communication. As a proof-of-concept, implantation experiments in nine female pigs demonstrated the functionality of both systems, with a notable technical superiority of the BLE.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Lower-limb ischemia is a complication of minimally invasive cardiac surgery with femoral cannulation. Herein, we verified our strategy using distal perfusion cannulation (DPC) against this complication. METHODS We retrospectively assessed 91 cases of aortic valve replacement with femoral cannulation between January 2019 and March 2023. DPC was applied when lower-limb tissue oxygenation index declined by ≥20%. The cannula to femoral artery diameter ratio (C/FA) was calculated by dividing the cannula size (Fr) divided by 3 by the femoral artery inner diameter (mm). Postoperative maximum creatinine kinase (CKmax), lactate dehydrogenase (LDHmax), and lactate levels were analyzed, and univariable logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic curve analyses were employed to determine DPC predictors and the cutoff C/FA for DPC, respectively. Patients without DPC were divided into 2 subgroups based on the cutoff C/FA for further comparisons. RESULTS DPC was required in 9 patients. Symptomatic ischemia was not observed. All laboratory data were similar in the DPC and non-DPC groups. C/FA was significantly associated with DPC (odds ratio = 1.27, 95% confidence interval: 1.09 to 1.47, P = 0.002), and the cutoff C/FA was 0.70 (sensitivity = 0.89, specificity = 0.80). In the non-DPC group, CKmax (P = 0.027) and LDHmax (P = 0.041) were significantly higher in patients with C/FA ≥0.7 (n = 16) than in those with C/FA <0.7 (n = 66). CONCLUSIONS Our strategy for preventing symptomatic ischemia is reasonable and could be almost achieved without DPC when C/FA is <0.7. C/FA also predicts asymptomatic potential ischemia, and proactive DPC is preferable when C/FA is ≥0.7.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Robot-assisted minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (RA-MIDCAB) is an attractive strategy for coronary revascularization. Growing evidence supports the use of total arterial grafting in coronary surgery. We evaluated total arterial left-sided coronary revascularization with bilateral internal thoracic artery (BITA) using RA-MIDCAB and compared it with a propensity score-matched (PSM) off-pump CAB (OPCAB) surgery population. METHODS We retrospectively included all isolated OPCAB and RA-MIDCAB surgery using BITA without saphenous vein graft from January 1, 2015, to October 31, 2022. We analyzed all our RA-MIDCAB patients and performed PSM to compare them with our OPCAB population. Primary outcomes were major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE) and mortality. Secondary outcomes were surgical parameters, length of hospital stay, and learning curve. RESULTS We included 601 OPCAB and 77 RA-MIDCAB procedures, which resulted in 2 cohorts of 54 patients after PSM. Mortality and MACCE survival analysis showed no significant difference. There was less blood transfusion in the RA-MIDCAB (16.7%) compared with the OPCAB group (38.9%; P = 0.02). We observed fewer intensive care unit (ICU) admissions (24.1% vs 96.6%), shorter ICU stay (0.78 ± 1.7 vs 1.91 ± 1.01 days), and shorter hospital stay (6.78 ± 2.4 vs 8.01 ± 2.5 days) in the RA-MIDCAB versus OPCAB group (P < 0.01). Surgery time decreased from 400.0 ± 70.8 to 325.0 ± 38.0 min with more experience in RA-MIDCAB BITA harvesting (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS This is a first publication of 77 consecutive RA-MIDCAB BITA harvesting for left coronary artery system revascularization. This technique is safe in terms of MACCE and mortality. Additional advantages are shorter length of hospital stay, fewer ICU admissions, and less blood transfusion.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Minimally invasive coronary surgery (MICS) via lateral thoracotomy is a less invasive alternative to the traditional median full sternotomy approach for coronary surgery. This study investigates its effectiveness for short- and long-term revascularization in cases of single and multi-vessel diseases. METHODS A thorough examination was performed on the databases of two cardiac surgery programs, focusing on patients who underwent minimally invasive coronary bypass grafting procedures between 2010 and 2023. The study involved patients who underwent either minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass grafting (MIDCAB) for the revascularization of left anterior descending (LAD) artery stenosis or minimally invasive multi-vessel coronary artery bypass grafting (MICSCABG). Our assessment criteria included in-hospital mortality, long-term mortality, and freedom from reoperations due to failed aortocoronary bypass grafts post-surgery. Additionally, we evaluated significant in-hospital complications as secondary endpoints. RESULTS A total of 315 consecutive patients were identified between 2010 and 2023 (MIDCAB 271 vs. MICSCABG 44). Conversion to median sternotomy (MS) occurred in eight patients (2.5%). The 30-day all-cause mortality was 1.3% (n = 4). Postoperative AF was the most common complication postoperatively (n = 26, 8.5%). Five patients were reoperated for bleeding (1.6%), and myocardial infarction (MI) happened in four patients (1.3%). The mean follow-up time was six years (±4 years). All-cause mortality was 10.3% (n = 30), with only five (1.7%) patients having a confirmed cardiac cause. The reoperation rate due to graft failure or the progression of aortocoronary disease was 1.4% (n = 4). CONCLUSIONS Despite the complexity of the MICS approach, the results of our study support the safety and effectiveness of this procedure with low rates of mortality, morbidity, and conversion for both single and multi-vessel bypass surgeries. These results underscore further the necessity to implement such programs to benefit patients.

Abstract
(1) Background: Stylohyoid syndrome, known as classical Eagle Syndrome (cES), is characterized by calcification of the stylohyoid chain with numerous nonspecific symptoms, mainly pain. This study introduces minimally invasive cervical styloidectomy (MICS). (2) Methods: MICS was performed on sixty-five patients diagnosed with classical Eagle Syndrome. Patients underwent meticulous differential diagnosis. Surgical plans were established based on the findings from neck angioCT. (3) Results: The healing process was uneventful, without significant complications. The overall success rate was 97.0%, with a follow-up of a minimum of six months. In one case, the surgery did not yield the desired improvement. In one case, a partial relapse of symptoms was observed. (4) Conclusions: MICS is a straightforward and efficient surgical treatment technique for stylohyoid syndrome.

Abstract
This study presents the first successful capture using GPS tagging of a jaguar (Panthera onca) using a minimally invasive capture system (MICS). We used snare-foot traps and a MICS during two capture campaigns in a fragment of Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil. The specimen disarmed snares on different occasions, and capture was only possible with the MICS. The captured jaguar, an estimated 16-year-old adult male, was monitored using a GPS Vertex Plus Iridium collar with an optimal performance of 86% in expected locations. The jaguar's home range (659 km2 by MPC and 174 km2 by 95%K) was within the observed range for the species and the animal was primarily maintained in protected areas. The habitat types most frequently used were native grassland (27.2% of 4798 fixes), marsh (24.8%), and dense lowland forest (24.7%). The use of a MICS for trapping jaguars is a promising technique that shows advantages in terms of efficiency, selectivity, portability, reduced potential risk of injury to animals or trappers, and animal stress compared to other capture methods used for the species.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Modern contraceptive refers to "a product or medical procedure that interferes with reproduction from acts of sexual intercourse". The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between residential status and wealth quintile, and modern contraceptive use among women in Ghana. METHODS We examined residential status and wealth quintile on contraceptive use analysing the 2006, 2011 and 2018 Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys datasets. A sample of 30,665 women in their reproductive ages (15-49 years) were enrolled in the surveys across Ghana. STATA version 13 was used to process and analyse the data. It examined socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, assessed modern contraceptive use prevalence among women, and used logistic regression models to determine predictors. The results were presented in odds ratio and adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals. All statistical tests were measured with p < 0.05. RESULTS In the three survey years, the highest prevalence of modern contraceptive usage was observed in 2011 (27.16%). The odds of using modern contraceptive increased by 19% in rural places (AOR = 1.19; 95% CI = 1.097-1.284) compared to urban places. The likelihood of women in second (AOR = 1.17; 95% CI = 1.065-1.289), middle (AOR = 1.24; 95% CI = 1.118-1.385), and fourth (AOR = 1.25; 95% CI = 1.113-1.403) wealth quintile using contraceptives increased compared to those of low wealth quintile. With the interactive terms, rural-second (AOR = 1.38; 95% CI = 1.042-1.830), rural-middle (AOR = 1.45; 95% CI = 1.084-1.933), rural-fourth (AOR = 1.52; 95% CI = 1.128-2.059), and rural-high (AOR = 1.42; 95% CI = 1.019-1.973) were more likely to use contraceptives compared to urban-low women. Despite lower odds, women of the age groups 20-24 (AOR = 2.33; 95% CI = 2.054-2.637), cohabitaing (AOR = 1.07; 95% CI = 0.981-1.173), secondary or higher education (AOR = 1.55; 95% CI = 1.385-1.736), Central (AOR = 1.48; 95% CI = 1.296-1.682) and Eastern (AOR = 1.48; 95% CI = 1.289-1.695) regions significantly predicted modern contraceptive use. CONCLUSION Modern contraceptive use in Ghana is low. Women in rural-rich categories are more likely to use modern contraceptives. Background factors such as age, marital status, educational attainment, and previous child experiences predict modern contraceptive use. It is recommended for the intensification of contraceptive awareness and utilization for all reproductive age women, regardless of education, marriage, or wealth.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the influence of the corneal tunnel length on surgically induced astigmatism (SIA) after 3 phacoemulsification techniques. METHODS Patients who underwent a planned phacoemulsification surgery with an implantation of a foldable, acrylic IOL were selected for the study. All surgeries were performed under topical anaesthesia, with the same phaco machine. Group I consisted of 30 eyes of 30 patients after bimanual 1.4 mm microincision cataract surgery (B-MICS). Group II consisted of 30 eyes of 30 patients after coaxial 1.8 mm microincision cataract surgery (C-MICS). Group III consisted of 30 eyes of 30 patients after coaxial 2.4 mm small incision cataract surgery (C-SICS).Best corrected visual acuity, autorefractometry, tonometry, a slit lamp examination and anterior segment OCT were performed preoperatively and 1, 7, 30 and 90 days postoperatively. The temporal peripheral corneal thickness and the chord length of the main incision were measured. Vector method was used to calculate SIA. RESULTS Mean preoperative BCVA was 0.52 ± 0.19 and it improved to 0.98 ± 0.05 (p < 0.05). Mean corneal tunnel chord length was 1.30 ± 0.16 mm 90 days postoperatively in group I, 1.30 ± 0.19 mm in group II and 1.48 ± 0.22 mm in group III. SIA was 0.54 ± 0.48 mm in group I, 0.45 ± 0.21 mm in group II and 0.62 ± 0.30 mm in group III. There were no correlations between the chord length of the corneal tunnel and SIA calculated with using vector analysis method. CONCLUSIONS Unlike the incision width, the length of the clear corneal tunnel in small incisions and microinicions, has no significant influence on SIA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Globally, health insurance has been identified as a key component of healthcare financing. The implementation of health insurance policies in low and middle-income countries has led to a significant increase in access to healthcare services in these countries. This study assessed health insurance coverage and its associated factors among women of reproductive age living in rural Ghana. METHODS This study used a nationally representative data from the 2017/2018 Ghana Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (GMICS) and included 7340 rural women aged 15-49 years. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression models were developed to assess the association between the explanatory and the outcome variable. Statistical significance was considered at p = 0.05. RESULTS The overall prevalence of health insurance coverage among rural women in Ghana was 51.9%. Women with secondary (aOR = 1.72, 95% CI: 1.38-2.14) and higher education (aOR = 4.57, 95% CI: 2.66-7.84) were more likely to have health insurance coverage than those who had no formal education. Women who frequently listened to radio (aOR = 1.146, 95% CI: 1.01-1.30) were more likely to have health insurance coverage than those who did not. Women who had a child (aOR = 1.81, 95% CI: 1.50-2.17), two children (aOR = 1.59, 95% CI: 1.27-1.98), three children (aOR = 1.41, 95% CI: 1.10-1.80), and five children (aOR = 1.36, 95% CI: 1.03-1.79) were more likely to have health insurance coverage than those who had not given birth. Women who were pregnant (aOR = 3.52, 95% CI: 2.83-4.38) at the time of the survey, and women within the richest households (aOR = 3.89, 95% CI: 2.97-5.10) were more likely to have health insurance coverage compared to their other counterparts. Women in the Volta region (aOR = 1.36, 95% CI: 1.02-1.81), Brong Ahafo region (aOR = 2.82, 95% CI: 2.20-3.60), Northern region (aOR = 1.32, 95% CI: 1.02-1.70), Upper East region (aOR = 2.13, 95% CI: 1.63-2.80) and Upper West region (aOR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.20-2.03) were more likely to have health insurance coverage than those in the Western region. CONCLUSION Although more than half of women were covered by health insurance, a significant percentage of them were uninsured, highlighting the need for prompt policy actions to improve coverage levels for insurance. It was found that educational level, listening to radio, parity, pregnancy status, wealth quintile, and region of residence were factors associated with health insurance coverage. We recommend better targeting and prioritization of vulnerability in rural areas and initiate policies that improve literacy and community participation for insurance programs. Further studies to establish health policy measures and context specific barriers using experimental designs for health insurance enrolments are required.

Abstract
The fertility rates of Kazakhstan have reversed to levels not seen for several decades. The striking fertility increase poses questions regarding the extent to which this new development is shared across socio-demographic groups and the nature of fertility recuperation. The current study employs UNICEF Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey data and event-history modelling to analyse parity progressions to one, two, three, and four children. The results suggest a sustained fertility increase that is not merely associated with the recuperation of delayed first births, but a genuine increase across all birth orders. This pattern is evident for both main ethnicities in Kazakhstan and across educational groups. The gradual increase of higher-order births, especially among ethnic Kazakhs, indicates a reversed fertility transition and also that the previous fertility decline in the 1990s was not part of a general transition towards below-replacement fertility but rather a reflection of economic crisis after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Abstract
Evaluating the impact of health insurance always remains a methodologically challenging endeavor due to the absence of sample randomization. This paper evaluates the impact of health insurance on the health status of children in Pakistan using the data of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) for Punjab, Pakistan, from 2017 to 2018. The study adopted the propensity score matching (PSM) method to address the sample selection bias. The sample is matched on potential covariates such as mother characteristics (education level), household head characteristics (gender, age, and education), and other household conditions (such as home dwelling, internet access, wealth index, migration member, number of children residing in the home, as child illness, etc.). The findings revealed that children with insurance have considerably better health than non-insured, at a 1% significance level. The results confirm that health insurance is not a luxury but a need that improves children's overall health. In this regard, governments should enhance and expand programs related to health insurance, especially for children. Health insurance programs will not only help poor people but also improve the overall infrastructure of health services in the country.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies have identified factors influencing infant mortality, but, to the best of knowledge, no studies assessed the factors considering unequal effects on different survival times of infant mortality in Bangladesh. In this study, it was examined how a set of covariates behaves on different quantile survival times related with the infant mortality. METHODS Data obtained from Bangladesh multiple indicator cluster survey (BMICS), 2019 have been used for purpose of the study. A total of 9,183 reproductive women were included in the study who gave their most recent live births within two years preceding the survey. Kaplan-Meier product limit approach has been applied to find the survival probabilities for the infant mortality, and the log-rank test has also been used to observe the unadjusted association between infant mortality and selected covariates. To examine the unequal effects of the covariates on different quantile survival time of infant mortality, the Laplace survival regression model has been fitted. The results obtained from this model have also been compared with the results obtained from the classical accelerated failure time (AFT) and Cox proportional hazard (Cox PH) models. RESULTS The infant mortality in Bangladesh is still high which is around 28 per 1000 live births. In all the selected survival regression models, the directions of regression coefficients were similar, but the heterogenous effects of covariates on survival time were observed in quantile survival model. Several correlates such as maternal age, education, gender of index child, previous birth interval, skilled antenatal care provider, immediate breastfeeding etc. were identified as potential factors having higher impact on initial survival times. CONCLUSION Infant mortality was significantly influenced by the factors more in the beginning of the infant's life period than at later stages, suggesting that receiving proper care at an early age will raise the likelihood of survival. Policy-making interventions are required to reduce the infant deaths, and the study findings may assist policy makers to revise the programs so that the sustainable development goal 3.2 can be achieved in Bangladesh.

Abstract
Thailand faces many wealth inequities and child health-related problems. This study aimed to describe Thai child health and determine socioeconomic inequities following the child flourishing index, a tool used to measure children's wellbeing based on the key relevant Sustainable Development Goals. The data from Thailand Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey 2019 were used to examine five indicators where Thailand had not yet achieved good results. The association of socioeconomic status with the five outcomes was explored using logistic regressions, comparing pseudo R-squared, and population attributable fraction analyses. Household wealth, urbanization, education, and primary language were significantly associated with Thai child health. Over 10% of children under 5 years were stunted and had a low birth weight. Fourteen percent of teenage girls had already become mothers. Living in poor households and rural areas, having a head-of-household who was non-Thai speaking, non-Buddhist, and had a low education were identified as risk factors for children with undernutrition status and low birth weight. However, having a head-of-household who spoke a non-Thai language was a protective factor against teenage mothers and having early marriages. Households with better economic status and education provided significant benefits for children and women's health. The result of this study calls for public policies and multisectoral actions in the wider social and economic spheres that address the social determinants that span across lives and generations. Furthermore, specific social protection programs should be designed to be accessible by these most vulnerable and disadvantaged people.

Abstract
While patient care, kidney replacement therapy, and transplantation techniques for chronic kidney disease (CKD) have continued to progress, the incidence of malnutrition disorders in CKD appears to have remained unchanged over time. However, there is now a better understanding of the underlying pathophysiology according to the disease background, disease stage, and the treatment received. In CKD patients, the increased production of proinflammatory cytokines and oxidative stress lead to a proinflammatory milieu that is at least partially responsible for the increased morbidity and mortality in this patient population. New insights into the pathogenic role of innate immunity and the proinflammatory cytokine profile, characterized, for instance, by higher levels of IL-6 and TNF-α, explain some of the clinical and laboratory abnormalities observed in these patients. In this article, we will explore currently available nutritional-inflammatory biomarkers in distinct CKD populations (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, transplantation) with a view to evaluating their efficacy as predictors of malnutrition and their involvement in the common proinflammatory process. Although there is a direct relationship between inflammatory-nutritional status, signs and symptoms [e.g., protein-energy wasting (PEW), anorexia], and comorbidities (e.g., atheromatosis, atherosclerosis), we are in need of clearly standardized markers for nutritional-inflammatory assessment to improve their performance and design appropriate bidirectional interventions.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Many low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) have improved health indicators in the past decades, however, there is a differential in outcomes between socioeconomic groups. Systematic analysis of drivers of child nutrition gap between non-poor and poor groups has a policy relevance in Nepal and other countries to make progress towards universal health coverage (UHC). The objective of this paper was to estimate the mean height-for-age z scores (HAZ) gap between under-five children belonging to non-poor and poor groups, divide the gap into components (endowments, coefficients and interaction), and identify the factors that contributed most to each of the component. METHODS Information about 6277 under-five children was extracted from the most recent nationally representative Nepal Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2019. HAZ was used to assess nutritional status of children. Wealth index was used to categorize children into non-poor and poor. Mean HAZ gap between groups was decomposed using Blinder-Oaxaca technique into components: endowments (group difference in levels of predictors), coefficients (group difference in effects of predictors), and interaction (group difference due to interaction between levels and effects of predictors). Detailed decomposition was carried out to identify the factors that contributed most to each component. RESULTS There was a significant non-poor and poor gap in nutrition outcome measured in HAZ (0.447; p < 0.001) among under-five children in Nepal. The between-group mean differences in the predictors of study participants (endowments) contributed 0.210 (47%) to the gap. Similarly, the between-group differences in effects of the predictors (coefficients) contributed 0.308 (68.8%) towards the gap. The interaction contributed -0.071 (15.8%) towards minimizing the gap. The predictors/variables that contributed most towards the gap due to (i) endowments were: maternal education, province (Karnali, Sudurpaschim, Madhesh), residence (rural/urban), type of toilet facility and ethnic group (Dalit and Muslim); (ii) coefficients were: number of under-five children in family, ethnic group (Dalit and Muslim), type of toilet facility, maternal age and education. CONCLUSION Decomposition of the child nutrition gap revealed that narrowing the inequality between wealth groups depends not only on improving the level of the predictors (endowments) in the poor group but also on reducing differential effects of the predictors (coefficients).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Very little is known about the prevalence of disability among Roma children. OBJECTIVE To estimate the prevalence of disability and significant cognitive delay among Roma and non-Roma children aged from 2 to 17 years in four West Balkan countries. METHODS Secondary analysis of data collected in Round 6 of UNICEF's Multiple Indicators Cluster Surveys. Nationally representative samples of 6290 Roma and 13,005 non-Roma children in Kosovo, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia, and Serbia. RESULTS Roma children were twice as likely to have a disability, a less severe disability, multiple disabilities, and severe cognitive delay than their peers and were more likely to have functional limitations in all but one of the domains investigated. CONCLUSIONS Disability is significantly more prevalent among Roma children aged 2-17 years than among their non-Roma peers in four Western Balkan countries. Future research should focus on the extent to which differences in disability may be attributable to differential rates of exposure to a range of social determinants.

Abstract
Background Women's happiness and life satisfaction, often summarized as subjective wellbeing, are of great value for most individuals and are associated with various determinants. The countries of the Western Balkan are of particular interest after the political changes in the nineties. Are the women satisfied with their lives today? Methods We use the most recent datasets of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) for women 15-49 years old and with comparable data coverage for three countries of the Western Balkan belonging to the former Yugoslavia, namely Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia. After sorting out variables of limited relevance or quality (missing values >50%), the remaining 32 variables followed a descriptive analysis. Four potential determinants of subjective wellbeing (SWB), an integration of happiness and satisfaction with life, entered an interactive Classification and Regression Tree (iC&RT) to account for their mostly bivariate format: age, education, region, and wealth. Results The iC&RT analysis determines the influence of 4 independent variables (age, education, region, and wealth) on overall happiness, satisfaction with life, and subjective wellbeing, resulting in a high overall SWB of 88.9% for Montenegro, 82.1% for North Macedonia, and 83% for Serbia. The high relevance of younger age, higher education, and wealth, as critical determinants of a high SWB, and the lesser role of regions except for Serbia is confirmed. The spread of SWB in defined population subgroups ranges from 80.5-92.6% for Montenegro, 64.2-86.8% for North Macedonia, and 75.8-87.4% for Serbia. Conclusions The three selected South-Eastern European countries of the former Yugoslavia (Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia) represent high levels of subjective wellbeing of women and a narrow range between the lowest and highest population groups. Women in Montenegro take a top position regarding their subjective wellbeing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although Bangladesh has an impressive track record in the reduction of maternal and child mortality, tetanus, a dreadful disease, impedes the way to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) in this respect. Sufficient doses of tetanus toxoid containing vaccine during pregnancy ensure immunity against tetanus to mothers as well as newborns. Since inequalities persist across vaccination programs globally, in this paper, an attempt has been made to examine whether tetanus toxoid immunization (TTI) status among the women of reproductive age in Bangladesh for their most recent live birth born preceding 2 years of the survey changes with their living standard index (LSI). METHODS Five domains of deprivation such as energy use, improved sanitation, drinking water, housing and assets ownership were used to compute the LSI using a approach proposed by Alkire and Foster. The adjusted association between LSI and TTI was established by using logistic regression model. For the purpose of statistical analysis, a nationally representative cross-sectional data extracted from Bangladesh Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (BMICS), 2019 have been used. RESULT The bivariate analysis revealed that 79.5% (95% CI 78.0-81.0) of women with low and 83.1% (95% CI 81.3-84.9) with moderate living standards had sufficient vaccination coverage for their most recent pregnancies while this percentage was higher for the women who belonged to high living standard (85.2, 95% CI = 84.2-86.2). A strong evidence for greater odds of sufficient immunization with TT among the women maintaining a high standard of living (AOR = 1.24, 95% CI = 1.08-1.42, p < 0.01) was found from regression analysis. CONCLUSION The results depict existing living standard disparity with respect to TT vaccination coverage among women in Bangladesh. Present research suggests that immunization campaigns need to be conducted especially for the disadvantaged people to improve their health care and immunization service utilization among women within the age bracket of 15 to 49. This study proposed a scientific way to enhance TT vaccination among Bangladeshi women, which could help Bangladesh attain a widespread tetanus protection and thus, meet the SDGs for maternal and child mortality reduction.

Abstract
Background Child undernutrition continues to be a major public health problem in many countries, including Nepal. The repercussions of undernutrition are not only limited to the affected children and families but also transcend to the national and global economy. Earlier studies from Nepal have predominantly used either ordinary least squares (OLS) regression or binary regression to analyse the socioeconomic and demographic correlates of the nutritional outcome. In this study, quantile regression was used to understand a complete and more precise estimate of the effects of the covariates on the child nutritional status. Methods This study was based on the most recent nationally representative Nepal Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2019. Height-for-age z scores (HAZ) were used as an indicator for assessing the nutritional status of under-five children. Quantile regression was used to examine the heterogeneous association of covariates with conditional HAZ distribution across the different quantiles (0.10, 0.30, 0.50, 0.85). As a comparison, the effects of covariates at conditional mean of HAZ using OLS regression was also analysed. The graphs were plotted to visualize the changes in the coefficients for each regressor across the entire conditional HAZ distribution. Results Age of children, sex of children, province and wealth had a consistent and statistically significant association with HAZ in both OLS and quantile regression. Improved toilet facility was positively correlated with HAZ at the lower tails (tenth and thirtieth percentiles). Ethnicity (Janajati and Newer) was positively correlated with HAZ at the lower tail (thirtieth percentile) and mean (OLS regression). Maternal education was a significant predictor of improved height-for-age across conditional quantiles, except at the tenth percentile. Maternal age, number of under-five children in household, number of household members, and improved source of drinking water showed heterogeneous effects across different quantiles of conditional HAZ distribution. Conclusion Use of quantile regression approach showed that the effect of different factors differed across the conditional distribution of HAZ. Policymakers should consider the heterogeneous effect of different factors on HAZ so that the targeted intervention could be implemented to maximize the nutritional benefits to children. Abstract
Background Leaving no one behind has been an important marker of the Sustainable Development Goals. Closing the gap in malnutrition between children of different backgrounds aligns well with the tenet of this international agenda. To this end, high-quality evidence of the magnitude and trends of socioeconomic and geographic related existing inequalities in the childhood stunting among Sudanese children emanate from this study help for policy maker and planners to design and implement effective interventions to narrow down inequality. Methods We used the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Health Equity Assessment Toolkit (HEAT) for our analysis of stunting inequality. Following standard equity analysis methods recommended by the WHO, we performed the disaggregated analysis of stunting across five equity stratifiers: Wealth, education, residence, sex, and sub-national regions. Then, we summarized stunting inequality through four measures of inequality: Difference, Ratio, Slope Index of Inequality (SII), and Relative Index of Inequality (RII). The point estimates of stunting were accompanied by 95% confidence intervals to measure the statistical significance of the findings. Results In this study, the national average childhood stunting prevalence was increased by 4% from 2010 to 2014. The findings revealed stark inequalities in stunting in all the studied dimensions of inequality. Huge inequality has existed along the wealth quintiles. Simple difference measure for education was increased by four points and simple relative measure decreased by one point for economic status. Conclusions Sex, residence and, geographically related inequalities remain unchanged over time, while economic status and educational inequality had seen a change by some inequality measures over the same time period.

Abstract
Chronic kidney disease–mineral and bone disorder (CKD–MBD) is a systemic disorder that affects multiple organs and systems and increases the risk of morbidity and mortality in patients with CKD, especially those receiving dialysis therapy. CKD–MBD is highly prevalent in CKD patients, and its treatment is gaining attention from healthcare providers who manage these patients. Additional important pathologies often observed in CKD patients are chronic inflammation and malnutrition/protein-energy wasting (PEW). These two pathologies coexist to form a vicious cycle that accelerates the progression of various other pathologies in CKD patients. This concept is integrated into the term “malnutrition–inflammation–atherosclerosis syndrome” or “malnutrition–inflammation complex syndrome (MICS)”. Recent basic and clinical studies have shown that CKD–MBD directly induces inflammation as well as malnutrition/PEW. Indeed, higher circulating levels of inorganic phosphate, fibroblast growth factor 23, parathyroid hormone, and calciprotein particles, as markers for critical components and effectors of CKD–MBD, were shown to directly induce inflammatory responses, thereby leading to malnutrition/PEW, cardiovascular diseases, and clinically relevant complications. In this short review, we discuss the close interplay between CKD–MBD and MICS and emphasize the significance of simultaneous control of these two seemingly distinct pathologies in patients with CKD, especially those receiving dialysis therapy, for better management of the CKD/hemodialysis population.
