Abstract
Theileria sergenti were isolated from infected erythrocytes by hypotonic lysis, and soluble merozoite antigens were purified by sonication and differential centrifugation. The preparation contained 29, 34, 35 and 105 kD immuno-dominant poly-peptides. The soluble antigens (0.5 mg/ml) were prepared and fortified with Freund's adjuvant. Five month old naive Korean calves were subcutaneously inoculated with the preparation and a booster dose was administered 4 weeks later. Nine weeks after the booster dose, vaccinates and controls were challenged with a homologous stabilate (5.6 x 10(6) RBC/dose, 40% Parasitemia). All animals were monitored for hematocrit, total erythrocyte count, parasitemia and for the specific antibody by Western immunoblot (WB) and indirect immuno-fluorescent antibody (IFA) test. By 18 weeks after vaccination (6 weeks after the challenge), vaccinated cattle had an average IFA titer of 1:10,240 compared with 1:1,280 of the controls. The vaccinates showed negligible change in hematocrit and total RBC count whereas control animals showed significant (p less than 0.05) hematological changes and associated anemia. After vaccination and challenge, the antibody responses demonstrated that vaccination had induced significant production of antibody to the 29 and 35 kD polypeptides. The latter polypeptide was much more strongly recognized by the vaccinated animals, and thus it may be a potential candidate for the vaccine.

Abstract
We performed a study to determine whether clinical history gives a positive or negative influence on X-ray film interpretation. One hundred and nine patient's radiograms, consisting of 55 normal and 54 abnormal cases (136 abnormalities), were interpreted twice by three pairs of residents in radiology and a pair of qualified radiologists, without clinical history first and with clinical history next. The interpreters recorded diagnosis and confidence level of normal or abnormal findings on a six-point scale. Analysis of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves showed that knowledge of clinical history improved diagnostic accuracy. Residents, especially beginners, should be advised to obtain clinical history whenever they read radiograms.

Abstract
The molecular mechanisms of the carcinogenic process of gastric cancer have not been fully understood yet. In order to know whether c-Ha-ras gene is being involved in the process of gastric carcinogenesis, 8 gastric cancer cell lines, 8 cases of gastric cancer and same number of adjacent dysplasia were analyzed for the presence of mutation at codon 12, 13 and 61 of the c-Ha-ras gene by using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and mutant-specific oligonucleotide hybridization. Point mutations at codon 12 of the c-Ha-ras gene were found in 2 out of 8 gastric cancer and dysplasia samples in one case, but we found no mutation at codon 13 or 61 of the c-Ha-ras gene. These results suggest that the frequency of mutation of the c-Ha-ras gene detected by sensitive PCR technique is low indeed, however it would be notable that such a genetic change has been detected in the dysplastic lesion of the gastric cancer patient.

Abstract
Several studies have examined patients with rheumatoid arthritis for the presence of oligoclonal populations of synovial T lymphocytes. The results of these studies have been conflicting. In this study one patient with rheumatoid arthritis and two with other forms of inflammatory synovitis were examined by Southern blot analysis of T cell clones generated from synovial fluid by primary limiting dilution. Evidence of oligoclonality was documented only in a patient with psoriatic arthritis. The distinguishing characteristics of this patient, in addition to the diagnosis, included the fact that only one joint was involved, the synovitis in the affected joint was of recent onset, and the synovial fluid lymphocytes from which the T cells were cloned responded strongly to soluble antigens. Because of the association with the strong response to soluble antigens, synovial fluid T lymphocytes from another patient with rheumatoid arthritis were cloned in response to a crude mycobacterial antigenic mixture. Three of the seven clones examined were identical by Southern blot analysis. These observations suggest that the presence of oligoclonality is limited in patients with inflammatory arthritis. The relationship of a specific antigen-driven response within the joint to the detection of oligoclonal T cells within that joint remains to be determined.

Abstract
Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV)-induced demyelinating disease in mice is a well established animal model for human multiple sclerosis (MS). Identification of pathogenic epitopes may be helpful in understanding the pathogenesis of this immune-mediated disease. In order to analyze the viral epitopes, we have generated approx. 150 recombinant lambda gt11 clones expressing various capsid areas of TMEV. Six predominant areas, ranging from 13-26 amino acid residues, (3 in VP1, 2 in VP2 and 1 in VP3) are readily recognized by conformation-independent antibodies from virus-infected mice. These areas have been designated as A-1A (VP1 13-27th residues), A-1B (VP1 145-167), A-1C (VP1 251-276), A-2A (VP2 2-14), A-2B (VP2 165-179), and A-3A (tentatively VP3 24-43). Antibodies from TMEV-infected susceptible SJL/J mice strongly react with A-1B, A-2A and A-2B, in contrast to antibodies from resistant BALB/c mice which mainly recognize A-1A and A-2A. Interestingly, the reactivity pattern of antibodies from TMEV-infected mice are somewhat different from that of antibodies from TMEV-immunized mice. Although the majority of antibodies in TMEV-infected mice recognizes conformation-dependent epitopes, the differential recognition of the conformation-independent antibody epitopes by susceptible mice may play a role in TMEV-induced demyelination.

Abstract
T cell hybridoma clones were derived after fusion of BW-5147 parent cells with lymphocytes from C57BL/6 mice injected with phosphorylcholine (PC)-hen egg lysozyme (HEL) conjugates. Several T cell hybridomas were preferentially reactive with PC-HEL over unconjugated HEL, and a particular clone (PC-H4.1) was further analyzed. This T cell hybridoma clone could respond to its maximal level toward unconjugated HEL only when the dose of HEL was increased to 5-10-fold of the PC-HEL concentration. Interestingly, this clone was not stimulated by unfolded HEL (by S-carboxymethylation) to the level of PC-HEL. A synthetic peptide representing the amino acid position 47-61 of HEL, which is known to be non-immunogenic upon HEL injection in C57BL/6 mice, was able to stimulate the hybridoma only to a level comparable to that induced by unconjugated HEL. The T cell response to this synthetic peptide required an additional antigen-processing step, based on its inability to stimulate T cells after treatment of antigen-presenting cells with leupeptin, chloroquine or paraformaldehyde. Deletion of a single C-terminal amino acid residue of HEL 47-61 (arginine) significantly enhanced (10-100-fold of HEL 47-61) the T cell reactivity and abrogated the necessity of further antigen processing. These results suggest that the lack of a T cell response to a certain epitope may not be due to the lack of a T cell repertoire reactive to the epitope. In some cases, the unresponsiveness may be due to the difficulty in generating the particular epitopes. Taken together, modification of the lysozyme molecule with PC conjugation may facilitate further antigen processing of HEL to generate an optimal epitope for the nonresponder mice.

Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma is a major malignant disease in parts of Africa and Asia, including Korea. Surgical resection, which represents the best hope for cure, is limited by the extent of the disease and the high incidence of concurrent liver cirrhosis in Korea. We designed a phase II trial of combined external radiotherapy and hyperthermia for hepatocellular carcinoma that was unresectable due to either locally advanced lesions or associated liver cirrhosis so as to evaluate the efficacy and the safety of this combination regimen. This trial was performed at Yonsei Cancer Center between April 1988 and July 1988. External radiotherapy was delivered to a total dose of 3060 cGy/3.5 weeks. Hyperthermia was applied twice a week for a total of six treatment sessions using an 8-MHz radio-frequency capacitive-type heating device, i.e., Thermotron RF-8 and Cancermia. In all cases, hyperthermia was carried out within 30 min of the radiotherapy for a period of 30-60 min. The temperature in the tumor was measured by inserting a thermocouple into the tumor mass under ultrasonographic guidance in patients who did not have a bleeding tendency. The tumor response was assessed by CT scan after completion of the designed treatment. No complete response was obtained. However, a symptomatic improvement in abdominal pain was observed in 78.6% of cases and a partial response was achieved in 40% of the patients. The most important factor affecting the tumor response was the type of tumor (single massive, 71.4%; diffuse infiltrative, 20%; multinodular, 0; P < 0.005). The 1-year survival values determined for all patients and for the partial responders were 34% and 50%, respectively. The overall median duration of survival was 6.5 months. The median duration of survival for the partial responders was longer than that for the nonresponders (11 vs 5 months; P < 0.05). A mild degree of heat sensation, fever, first-degree burns of the skin, and nausea were observed as treatment-related adverse reactions. In conclusion, although this study is being continued, the results obtained thus for indicate that combined radiotherapy and hyperthermia seem to be effective in providing local tumor control and pain palliation in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma while producing an acceptable level of toxicity.

This murine model for human multiple sclerosis is apparently immune-mediated and the genes involved in the immune response influence the outcome of disease susceptibility as observed with human multiple sclerosis. These genes include the MHC and TCR genes. However, the functional relationships among these genes on the disease susceptibility has not yet been studied. In this study, we demonstrate that the effect of the H-2s genotype from susceptible SJL/J mice overrides the resistant effect of the BALB/c TCR beta-chain gene in CXJ recombinant-inbred and BALB.S congenic mice. These results strongly suggest the presence of a hierarchy of genes involved in the immune response in Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus-induced demyelinating disease.

Abstract
Internal radiation therapy with subsegmental arterial injection of iodine 131(131I)-labeled iodized oil (Lipiodol; Laboratorie, Guerbet, France) was evaluated in 24 patients with nodular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranging from 2.5 to 8.0 cm in size. 131I Lipiodol (555 to 2220 MBq in 3 to 8 ml) was injected depending on the tumor size. Tumor reduction was seen in 88.9% of tumors smaller than 4.0 cm in diameter, 65.5% of tumors between 4.1 to 6.0 cm, and 25.0% of tumors larger than 5.1 cm. The tumor size reduction corresponded to the gradual drop of serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels and devascularization on follow-up angiography. Adverse reactions from treatment included fever, mild abdominal pain, nausea, and elevation of transaminases. These were mild and well tolerated by patients. This method provided long-term local control without complications related to the thyroid, lung, gastrointestinal tract, and bone marrow.

Abstract
We report two cases showing black discoloration of the thumb nail which were histologically found to be acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) in situ. A pigmented subungual lesion is more frequently malignant than benign and it is generally believed that diagnosis of subungual melanoma during the radial-growth phase is very difficult. Our cases are particularly interesting because atypical melanocytic hyperplasia was confined to the epidermis despite the lesion being present for a long time.

Abstract
We studied the prevalence of anti-HCV in 585 sera from various individuals, using enzyme immunoassay (EIA, Abbott Lab.). Anti-HCV was detected in 16 (10.7%) out of the 150 patients with HBsAg positive liver diseases diagnosed by liver biopsy and they consisted of none out of 10 acute viral hepatitis, 3 out of 15 chronic persistent hepatitis, 4 out of 50 chronic active hepatitis, 2 out of 32 liver cirrhosis, and 7 out of 43 hepatocellular carcinoma. Anti-HCV was detected in 43 (45.3%) out of 95 patients with HBsAg negative liver diseases diagnosed by liver biopsy and they consisted of 5 out of 8 acute viral hepatitis, 2 out of 10 chronic persistent hepatitis, 17 out of 30 chronic active hepatitis, 4 out of 15 liver cirrhosis, and 15 out of 32 hepatocellular carcinoma. Anti-HCV was detected in 22 (38.6%) out of 57 hemodialysis patients, in 3 (6.7%) out of 45 kidney transplants, in 2 (11.1%) out of 18 fatty liver diagnosed by liver biopsy, in 2 (1.3%) out of 150 healthy blood donors, in none out of 40 healthy volunteers, in 6 (31.6%) out of 19 rheumatoid arthritis and in 6 (54.5%) out of 11 systemic lupus erythematosis cases. There were familial clusters of chronic liver diseases in 4.7% of patients with HBsAg negative/anti-HCV positive chronic liver diseases, while in 19.4% of patients with HBsAg positive/anti-HCV negative liver diseases. Incidence of anti-HCV within patients with HBsAg positive liver diseases was higher in HBsAg negative patients than in HBsAg positive patients (17.6% and 10.3%, respectively).(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Abstract
Griseofulvin(GF) has become the drug of choice as an antifungal agent for patients who suffer from many kinds of fungal infection. In order to clarify hepatic injury by griseofulvin(GF) overload and the effect of UDCA on GF-induced hepatic injury, the authors carried out biochemical, histologic, and ultrastructural studies of liver following treatment with griseofulvin and ursodeoxycholic acid(UDCA) in mice. Urine porphobilinogen excretion in the group treated with GF alone was significantly increased and reached the highest level in the 4th week and declined thereafter. Biochemical studies of the liver function showed no remarkable changes of serum bilirubin levels throughout the experimental period in all groups, except for SGPT and alkaline phosphatase activities which were significantly elevated and reached the highest level in the second week. Then they slightly decreased in GF treated groups(GF alone and GF plus UDCA) in comparison with the control group. Pathologic findings in the group treated with GF alone include focal liver cell necrosis(esp, zone 3), Mallory bodies in hepatocytes(esp, zone 1), Kupffer cell activation, and brown protoporphyrin pigments in the hepatocytes, bile canaliculi and interlobular bile ducts with a marked inflammatory cell infiltration in the portal tracts. Under the polarizing light microscope, bile ductular and canalicular thrombi showed a "Maltese cross" birefringence in mice treated with GF alone. There is no definite finding of fatty change in hepatocyte. Under the microscope, the liver appeared normal with an intact lobular architecture in the GF plus UDCA treated group. Electron microscopically, GF-induced changes include swelling of mitochondria, globular protoporphyrin crystals in the hepatocyte cytoplasm, markedly dilated bile cannaliculi and bile ducts and the formation of a Mallory hyaline bodies in the hepatocytes. There were no noticeable structural changes in the GF plus UDCA-treated group. Therefore the results suggest that GF causes hepatic injury, namely porphyria and cholestasis, and the treatment of UDCA may have cytoprotective and choleretic effects on GF-induced hepatic injuries.

Abstract
Twelve male patients with operable breast cancer were evaluated for the expression of prognostic factors by immunohistochemical staining assay. Seven patients were stage I & II, and five patients were stage III. Axillary lymph node positivity was 42%. Nine patients were nuclear grade I, three were nuclear grade II, and none were nuclear grade III. The expression rate of EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor), ER (estrogen receptor) were 8.3%, 70.0% respectively. This limited data suggest better tumor behavior in male than in female breast cancer. Adjuvant treatment should be considered in male breast cancer just as in females, based on axillary lymph node and ER states.

Abstract
We have selected several different T cell hybridoma clones reactive to hen egg lysozyme (HEL) conjugated to phosphorylcholine (PC) after fusion of PC-HEL-primed C57BL/6 lymphocytes with BW5147 parent cells. These hybridoma clones preferentially recognize PC-HEL over unconjugated HEL, but not other carrier molecules conjugated with the same hapten. All the PC-HEL-reactive clones are similarly responsive to not only p-azobenzenearsonate (ABA)-conjugated HEL (ABA-HEL) but also to a variety of other diazotized hapten-HEL conjugates. However, these clones are not stimulated by fluoresceinated or dinitrophenylated HEL beyond the level of HEL carrier alone. Therefore, the type of hapten linkage (diazonium) to the carrier molecule appears to affect T cell recognition. The hybridoma clones apparently recognize the carrier molecule alone, although the level of stimulation is relatively low compared to that induced by either PC-HEL or ABA-HEL. Interestingly, HEL unfolded by S-carboxymethylation is capable of stimulating the hybridomas to a level comparable to that obtained with PC-HEL. T cell recognition of the unfolded HEL is independent of antigen processing, which is different from that of PC-HEL. The peptide sequence corresponding to the amino acids 81-93 of HEL appears to contain the epitope region for the hybridoma clones based on testing stimulation activity with synthetic peptides. Previously, the peptides including this region (81-96) have been reported as the determinant recognized by T cells derived from C57BL/6 mice after immunization with an HEL peptide (HEL 13-105) but not with native HEL. These results suggest that a hapten conjugation via diazonium linkage modifies antigen presentation and consequently the presentation of the major T cell epitopes similar to that of the HEL fragment.

Abstract
A case is presented in which massive retroperitoneal hemorrhage from the left first lumbar artery complicating a percutaneous renal biopsy was successfully controlled by superselective embolization with microcoils. An anterior radiculomedullary artery (artery of Adamkiewicz) originated from the lumbar artery. To minimize the risk of ischemic damage to the spinal cord from embolization, the extravasating branch of the lumbar artery had to be superselectively catheterized using a 3-F coaxial catheter system. Computed tomography (CT) scan localized the hematoma within the left posterior pararenal space in the retroperitoneal space.

The histocompatibility loss mutation H-2dm6 was derived from a mouse treated with the chemical mutagen ethylnitrosourea, and previous mapping studies implicated Dd as the affected locus. Southern blot analyses of DNA from H-2dm6 cells did not detect major deletions in the Ddm6 gene, suggesting that H-2dm6 was different from the previously characterized D region mutants H-2dm1 and H-2dm2. RNA blot analysis identified Ddm6 transcripts of appropriate size and a Ddm6 protein was immunoprecipitated from biosynthetically labeled H-2dm6 cells. Interestingly, the Ddm6 protein showed no beta 2m association and was only precipitated by a mAb to the alpha 3 domain. Furthermore, oligosaccharide maturation and low levels of surface expression of Ddm6 molecules were detected. However, the surface Ddm6 was nonfunctional as a target Ag in in vitro cytotoxicity assays, consistent with its original in vivo detection as a loss mutation. Sequence analyses of Ddm6 cDNA identified a single nucleotide base difference from wild-type, resulting in the substitution of a Trp to Arg at position 133. The significance of this substitution is discussed in the context of other class I expression variants.

Abstract
In the search for donor tissue for massive craniofacial defects, the transplantation of somatic tissue allografts was explored. Four young, out-bred cynomolgus monkeys were the recipients of orthotopic hemimandibular allotransplants from nonrelated cynomolgus monkeys. The transplant consisted of one-half of the mandible with attached muscle, skin, and mucosa. Cyclosporine 15 mg/kg/day was given subcutaneously each day. The 4 monkeys were observed for 13, 27, 63, and 65 days, respectively. All transplants showed primary wound healing and hair growth. The 2 longest survivors chewed, ate a normal diet, and gained weight. Two allografts showed severe rejection signs at 2 to 3 weeks, and the monkeys were euthanized. One monkey had a second episode of rejection that could not be reversed, and it was killed. The fourth monkey died of undetermined causes.

Abstract
Although their mechanism of degradation may differ, both the SN1 alkylators, N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) and N-nitroso-N-methylurea (MNU), and the SN2 alkylators, dimethyl sulfate (DMS) and methyl methanesulfonate (MMS), spontaneously decompose under aqueous conditions to the methyldiazonium ion or a direct methylating intermediate, respectively. Thus, these agents serve as useful probes to investigate the immunosuppressive potential of the putative primary reactive intermediate of dimethylnitrosamine (DMN) metabolism, the methyldiazonium ion. The effects of these direct alkylating agents on the in vitro immune response were characterized. Direct addition of both the SN1 and SN2 alkylators to naive B6C3F1 murine splenocytes produced a dose-dependent suppression of the in vitro antibody-forming cell (AFC) response to the T-dependent antigen, sheep erythrocytes (sRBC), T-independent antigen, dinitrophenyl (DNP)-Ficoll, and the polyclonal activator, lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The T-dependent and T-independent responses proved to be more sensitive than the polyclonal response to the effects of these compounds, except for MNNG in which all 3 antibody responses were equally affected. The suppression of the AFC response for all antigens was unaffected by the addition of 2-ME, and was observed at concentrations below those affecting viability, although at the highest concentrations an effect on viability was often observed. The addition of MNNG to the T-dependent AFC response at any time within the first 96 h produced a marked suppression, while the addition of DMS to cultures was only effective in suppressing the AFC response if added within the first 24 h. MNNG and DMS suppressed the proliferative responses to both B-cell (LPS) and T-cell (Concanavalin A; Con A) mitogens, as well as in the mixed lymphocyte response (MLR). In addition, a positive correlation between immunosuppression and DNA damage, as measured by single-strand breaks, was observed. Although these compounds produced suppression of in vitro immune responses, their profile of activity on immunocompetence and DNA damage was different from that associated with DMN and thus, the direct alkylators may not prove to be useful models to elucidate the mechanism of the DMN-induced immunosuppression.

Abstract
Among chlorophyll derivatives (CpD-A, -B, -C, and -D) extracted from silk worm (Bombyx mori) excretas, CpD-A was extensively studied to clarify its role as a "photosensitizer" for photodynamic therapy (PDT) of tumors in vitro. It was found that CpD-A was photoreactive both in itself and also in its cell bound forms. The cell bound CpD-A produced fluorescent light and singlet oxygen following the exposure to lights of varied wave length. Among them, lights of near 650 nm, which was the maximum absorbance band, efficiently activated CpD-A following the application of only 10 minutes of irradiation. CpD-A was found to have specificity for the human and mouse tumor cells regardless of their species difference. A higher intensity of fluorescence and a larger amount of CpD-A were found in the tumor cells as opposed to the intensity found in normal cells. Only 10 minutes of light irradiation of the CpD-A treated tumor cells resulted in their rapid and complete destruction within 2 hours of irradiation. Simultaneously, more than 80% of the normal human and mouse control cells remained alive after receiving treatment. These findings suggested that CpD-A produced by use of silkworm excreta could be used as a photosensitizer for PDT of tumors by the use of lights of near 650 nm.

Abstract
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease in humans which affects females more frequently than males. Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus (TMEV) induces demyelination similar to human MS in susceptible strains of mice after intracerebral inoculation. In this paper we report that sex influences susceptibility to TMEV-induced demyelination in certain genotypes derived from C57L/J and SJL/J or SWR/J mice. This is the first report of an animal model for MS that shows an association between sex and susceptibility, and this information may facilitate the investigation of human MS.

Abstract
Sixteen cases of male breast cancer seen over a 20-year period were reviewed. The causes of cancer of the male breast are no better understood, but major alterations in hormonal environment could be a significant factor. Some clinical characteristics correspond well with the results of other series. The median age at presentation was 61.7 years. The most frequent initial symptom was a painless mass, and the incidences of nipple discharge, central tumor location, and axillary node involvement were high. Males also had a higher incidence of local advancement which was associated with a longer delay in seeking treatment and small breast tissue. The pathologic type was infiltrating ductal type in all cases except one, and all cases showed favorable nuclear grade. Estrogen receptor analysis was performed from the tumor of 2 patients. Both of them showed a high receptor level. There was no locoregional relapse in 5 patients who received adjuvant radiotherapy in contrast to the 2 relapses in 3 patients who underwent surgery alone. And three of the five patients who received radiotherapy suffered from systemic metastasis which suggested the important role of adjuvant chemotherapy as well as radiotherapy. In light of the encouraging results about adjuvant chemotherapy in the treatment for female breast cancer with axillary lymph node involvement, it would be desirable to extend this policy to male breast cancer.

Abstract
Twenty four patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who refused surgery or had unresectable tumor ranging 2.5 to 8.0 cm in size were treated with intrahepatic arterial injection of iodine-131-labeled iodized oil (I-131 Lipodol) in an attempt to achieve internal radiation of tumor. 555-2,220 MBq in 3-8 ml of I-131 Lipiodol was injected into the hepatic artery or proximal to the tumor feeding vessel depending on the tumor size. Tumor size reduction was observed in 88.9% of tumor smaller than 4.0 cm in diameter, 65.5% between 4.1 to 6.0 cm, and 25.0% of larger than 6.1cm, respectively. The tumor size reduction was corresponded to the gradual drop of serum AFP levels, decreased uptake on gallium-67 scintigraphy, and devascularization on follow-up angiography. Tumors having significant A-V shunts revealed further tumor growth. Adverse reactions from the treatment include fever, mild abdominal pain, nausea and elevation of transaminases. These have been mild and well-tolerated by the patients. This method was able to provide long term local control without complications related to thyroid, lung, GI tract and bone marrow.

Abstract
Intracerebral injection of mice with Theiler's murine encephalomyelitis virus results in chronic demyelination in susceptible strains, and serves as a model system for the study of multiple sclerosis. The role of individual epitopes in the disease process remains to be elucidated. Random fragments of DNA from the viral capsid protein genome covering the coding regions from VP1, VP2, and VP3 have been expressed in the lambda gt11 vector system. Fusion proteins from the clones were expressed and probed with antibodies from both resistant and susceptible strains of mice. Each strain displays a distinctive pattern with certain fusion proteins recognized by all of the strains and others recognized uniquely by either the susceptible or the resistant strains.
