Measurements of All-Particle Energy Spectrum and Mean Logarithmic Mass of Cosmic Rays from 0.3 to 30 PeV with LHAASO-KM2A. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:131002. Abstract
We present the measurements of all-particle energy spectrum and mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays in the energy range of 0.3-30 PeV using data collected from LHAASO-KM2A between September 2021 and December 2022, which is based on a nearly composition-independent energy reconstruction method, achieving unprecedented accuracy. Our analysis reveals the position of the knee at 3.67±0.05±0.15 PeV. Below the knee, the spectral index is found to be -2.7413±0.0004±0.0050, while above the knee, it is -3.128±0.005±0.027, with the sharpness of the transition measured with a statistical error of 2%. The mean logarithmic mass of cosmic rays is almost heavier than helium in the whole measured energy range. It decreases from 1.7 at 0.3 PeV to 1.3 at 3 PeV, representing a 24% decline following a power law with an index of -0.1200±0.0003±0.0341. This is equivalent to an increase in abundance of light components. Above the knee, the mean logarithmic mass exhibits a power law trend towards heavier components, which is reversal to the behavior observed in the all-particle energy spectrum. Additionally, the knee position and the change in power-law index are approximately the same. These findings suggest that the knee observed in the all-particle spectrum corresponds to the knee of the light component, rather than the medium-heavy components.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the echinococcosis surveillance results in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from 2017 to 2022, so as to provide insights into formulation of echinococcosis control measures in the prefecture. METHODS Villagers were randomly sampled using a multistage sampling method from class I and II echinococcosis endemic counties in Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture from 2017 to 2022 for detection of human echinococcosis, while all patients undergoing ultrasound examinations in medical institutions in class III endemic counties received active echinococcosis screening. In addition, livestock in centralized slaughterhouses or slaughtering sites were screened for echinococcosis using the palpation and necropsy method, and fresh domestic dog feces samples were collected from randomly selected dog owners in each administrative village for detection of Echinococcus copro-antigen in domestic dogs. The trends in detection of human and livestock echinococcosis, detection of newly diagnosed human echinococcosis cases and detection of Echinococcus coproantigen in domestic dogs were analyzed in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture from 2017 to 2022. RESULTS The mean detection rate of human echinococcosis was 0.13% (540/407 803) in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture from 2017 to 2022, which appeared a tendency towards a decline over years (χ2trend = 1 217.21, P < 0.001), and the highest detection of newly diagnosed echinococcosis cases was seen in Hejing County (0.28%, 191/67 865). The detection of livestock echinococcosis appeared a tendency towards a decline over years from 2017 to 2022 (χ2trend = 147.02, P < 0.001), with the highest detection rate seen in Hejing County (3.44%, 86/2 500), and the detection of Echinococcus copro-antigen in domestic dogs appeared a tendency towards a decline over years from 2017 to 2022 (χ2trend = 302.46, P < 0.001), with the highest detection rate in Qiemo County (2.74%, 118/4 313). CONCLUSIONS The detection of human and livestock echinococcosis and dog feces antigens Echinococcus copro-antigen in domestic dogs all appeared a tendency towards a decline in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from 2017 to 2022; however, there is still a high echinococcosis transmission risk in local areas. Sustainable integrated echinococcosis control is required in Bayingolin Mongol Autonomous Prefecture.

Abstract
Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) is a leading cause of blindness in the elderly, and anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy is currently the primary treatment approach. However, the real-world effectiveness of nAMD treatment is not always satisfactory and faces various challenges. Frequent administration and follow-up burdens can lead to decreased patient compliance during long-term treatment, resulting in suboptimal outcomes. Some lesions exhibit poor or no response to anti-VEGF treatment, leading to difficulties in maintaining or even declining visual acuity. Factors such as lesion fibrosis and tissue atrophy can contribute to visual deterioration. Therefore, standardizing and individualizing treatment plans, along with enhancing comprehensive monitoring and management throughout the disease course, are crucial improvement measures. The evidence-based guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of age-related macular degeneration in China, released in 2023, provide guidance for standardized clinical diagnosis and treatment. Meanwhile, research and development of new drugs and administration methods are anticipated for the future.

Investigation of the ΔI=1/2 Rule and Test of CP Symmetry through the Measurement of Decay Asymmetry Parameters in Ξ^{-} Decays. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 132:101801. Abstract
Using (10087±44)×10^{6} J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, numerous Ξ^{-} and Λ decay asymmetry parameters are simultaneously determined from the process J/ψ→Ξ^{-}Ξ[over ¯]^{+}→Λ(pπ^{-})π^{-}Λ[over ¯](n[over ¯]π^{0})π^{+} and its charge-conjugate channel. The precisions of α_{Λ0} for Λ→nπ^{0} and α[over ¯]_{Λ0} for Λ[over ¯]→n[over ¯]π^{0} compared to world averages are improved by factors of 4 and 1.7, respectively. The ratio of decay asymmetry parameters of Λ→nπ^{0} to that of Λ→pπ^{-}, ⟨α_{Λ0}⟩/⟨α_{Λ-}⟩, is determined to be 0.873±0.012_{-0.010}^{+0.011}, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio is smaller than unity more than 5σ, which signifies the existence of the ΔI=3/2 transition in Λ for the first time. Besides, we test for CP symmetry in Ξ^{-}→Λπ^{-} and in Λ→nπ^{0} with the best precision to date.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the endoscopic and histopathological features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of gastric hamartomatous inverted polyp (GHIP). Methods: Five cases of GHIP were collected at the University Town Hospital of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou, China, from May 2021 to May 2023. The endoscopic, pathological and immunohistochemical features of the 5 GHIP cases were analyzed. The relevant literature was reviewed. Results: There were 3 males and 2 females, aged from 49 to 60 years, with a mean age of 56 years. The lesions were located in the fundus and body of the stomach, and presented as polyps or masses under endoscopy. Microscopically, the lesions were mainly in the submucosa and consisted of lobulated or clustered gastric glandular epithelium surrounded by hyperplastic smooth muscle. In some areas, there were differentiated glandular elements mimicking the normal gastric mucosa. The irregularly dilated glandular elements in the center were lined by hyperplastic foveolar epithelium, while the glands in the periphery were fundic or pyloric glands. In addition, in some areas, the glands showed cystic expansion, disordered arrangement and lack of differentiation. The hyperplastic glandular epithelium included foveolar epithelium, fundic gland and pyloric gland. There were scattered neuroendocrine cells and smooth muscle bundles in the stroma. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for MUC5AC, MUC6, Pepsinogen Ⅰ and H+/K+ ATPase β, but negative for MUC2. The scattered neuroendocrine cells were positive for synaptophysin, and the desmin stain highlighted hyperplastic smooth muscle bundles. One case was classified as type 2 gastric inverted polyp, and 4 cases were classified as type 3. Conclusions: GHIP is a rare gastric polyp with unique histological features. It should be distinguished from inverted hyperplastic polyp, gastritis cystica profunda, adenomyoma, hyperplastic polyps and well-differentiated gastric tubular adenocarcinoma, etc. Improving the understanding of its pathogenesis and diagnostic features can help avoid misdiagnoses.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the prognostic impact of computed tomography (CT)-defined ground glass opacity (GGO) in patients with clinical stage I-IIA grade 3 invasive non-mucinous pulmonary adenocarcinoma (INPA). MATERIALS AND METHODS The present study retrospectively enrolled 187 patients diagnosed with stage I-IIA grade 3 INPA. Their clinicopathological, radiological, and genetic information was evaluated systematically, and a 5-year follow-up was conducted to monitor disease recurrence and mortality. Patients were stratified based on the presence of a GGO component, and the Cox proportional hazard model was employed to assess the influence of clinicopathological factors and genetic variables on tumour outcomes. Recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared using the log-rank test. RESULTS Significant differences were observed in both OS and RFS based on the presence of a GGO component. The group with GGO exhibited superior OS (p=0.002) and RFS (p=0.029). Multivariate analysis revealed that the presence of a GGO component (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.412, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.177-0.959, p=0.040), clinical T2 stage (HR=2.473, 95% CI: 1.498-4.083, p<0.001), pathological N2 stage (HR=3.049, 95% CI: 1.800-5.167, p<0.001), and mixed high-grade patterns (HR=2.392, 95% CI: 1.418-4.036, p=0.001) were predictors of RFS. CONCLUSION The presence of a GGO component is strongly associated with a favourable prognosis in grade 3 INPA.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical application value of a novel magnetic navigation ultrasound (MNU) combined with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) dual-guided percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTCD) through the right hepatic duct for the treatment of malignant obstructive jaundice. Methods: Randomized controlled trial. The clinical data of 64 patients with malignant obstructive jaundice requiring PTCD through the right hepatic duct at the Hepatobiliary Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University (Jiangsu Province People's Hospital) from December 2018 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The MNU group (n=32) underwent puncture guided by a novel domestic MNU combined with DSA, and the control group (n=32) underwent puncture guided by traditional DSA. The operation time, number of punctures, X-ray dose after biliary stenting as shown by DSA, patients' tolerance of the operation, success rate of the operation, pre- and post-operative total bilirubin, and incidence of postoperative complications were compared between the two groups. Results: The operation time of the MNU group was significantly shorter than that of the control group [(17.8±7.3) vs. (31.6±9.9) min, t=-6.35,P=0.001]; the number of punctures in the MNU group was significantly lower [(1.7±0.6) vs. (6.3±3.9) times, t=-6.59, P=0.001]; and the X-ray dose after biliary stenting as shown by DSA in the MNU group was lower than that in the control group [(132±88) vs. (746±187) mGy, t=-16.81,P<0.001]; Five patients in the control group were unable to tolerate the operation, and two stopped the operation, however all patients in the MNU group could tolerate the operation, and all completed the operation, with a success rate of 100% (32/32) in the MNU group compared to 93.8%(30/32) in the control group; the common complications of PTCD were biliary bleeding and infection, and the incidence of biliary bleeding (25.0%, 8/32) and infection (18.8%, 6/32) in the MNU group was significantly lower than that in the control group, 53.1% (17/32) and 28.1% (9/32), respectively. Conclusion: Magnetic navigation ultrasound combined with DSA dual-guided PTCD through the right biliary system for the treatment of malignant obstructive jaundice is safe and feasible.

Abstract
By analyzing 7.33 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the observation of the semileptonic decay D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ}, with a statistical significance larger than 10σ, and the measurements of the D_{s}^{+}→ημ^{+}ν_{μ} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ} decay dynamics for the first time. The branching fractions of D_{s}^{+}→ημ^{+}ν_{μ} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}μ^{+}ν_{μ} are determined to be (2.235±0.051_{stat}±0.052_{syst})% and (0.801±0.055_{stat}±0.028_{syst})%, respectively, with precision improved by factors of 6.0 and 6.6 compared to the previous best measurements. Combined with the results for the decays D_{s}^{+}→ηe^{+}ν_{e} and D_{s}^{+}→η^{'}e^{+}ν_{e}, the ratios of the decay widths are examined both inclusively and in several ℓ^{+}ν_{ℓ} four-momentum transfer ranges. No evidence for lepton flavor universality violation is found within the current statistics. The products of the hadronic form factors f_{+,0}^{η^{(')}}(0) and the c→s Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element |V_{cs}| are determined. The results based on the two-parameter series expansion are f_{+,0}^{η}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.452±0.010_{stat}±0.007_{syst} and f_{+,0}^{η^{'}}(0)|V_{cs}|=0.504±0.037_{stat}±0.012_{syst}, which help to constrain present models on f_{+,0}^{η^{(')}}(0). The forward-backward asymmetries are determined to be ⟨A_{FB}^{η}⟩=-0.059±0.031_{stat}±0.005_{syst} and ⟨A_{FB}^{η^{'}}⟩=-0.064±0.079_{stat}±0.006_{syst} for the first time, which are consistent with the theoretical calculation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to construct a facial deformity dataset and a network model based on heatmap regression for the recognition of facial soft tissue landmarks to provide a basis for clinicians to perform cephalometric analysis of soft tissue. MATERIALS AND METHODS A 34-point face marker detection model, the Back High-Resolution Network (BHR-Net), was constructed based on the heatmap regression algorithm, and a custom dataset of 1780 facial detection images for orthognathic surgery was collected. The mean normalized error (MNE) and 10% failure rate (FR10%) were used to evaluate the performance of BHR-Net, and a test set of 50 patients was used to verify the accuracy of the landmarks and their measurement indicators. The test results were subsequently validated in 30 patients. RESULTS Both the MNE and FR10% of BHR-Net were optimal compared with other models. In the test set (50 patients), the accuracy of the markers excluding the nose root was 86%, and the accuracy of the remaining markers reached 94%. In the model validation (30 patients), using the markers detected by BHR-Net, the diagnostic accuracy of doctors was 100% for Class II and III deformities, 100% for the oral angle plane, and 70% for maxillofacial asymmetric deformities. CONCLUSIONS BHR-Net, a network model based on heatmap regression, can be used to effectively identify landmarks in maxillofacial multipose images, providing a reliable way for clinicians to perform cephalometric measurements of soft tissue objectively and quickly.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Curcumin, a polyphenolic compound extracted from turmeric (Curcuma longa L.), is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Clinical and experimental studies show that curcuminoid formulations have considerable clinical application value in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). AIM OF THE STUDY To evaluate the efficacy and safety of curcumin, both alone and in combination with other drugs, in KOA treatment through a Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA). METHODS We searched PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trials of curcumin for KOA treatment. The time range of the search was from the establishment of each database to April 26, 2023. The NMAs of outcome indicators were all performed using a random-effects model. NMAs were calculated and graphed in R using MetaInsight and Stata 140 software. Measurement data were represented by the mean difference (MD), while count data were represented by the odds ratio (OR); the 95% confidence interval (CI) of each effect size was also calculated. RESULTS This study included 23 studies from 7 countries, including 2175 KOA patients and 6 interventions. The NMA results showed that compared with placebo, curcumin significantly reduced the visual analogue scale pain score (MD = -1.63, 95% CI: -2.91 to -0.45) and total WOMAC score (MD = -18.85, 95% CI: -29.53 to -8.76). Compared with placebo, curcumin (OR = 0.17, 95% CI: 0.08 to 0.36), curcumin + NSAIDs (OR = 0.01, 95% CI: 0.00 to 0.13) and NSAIDs (OR = 0.11, 95% CI: 0.02 to 0.47) reduced the use of rescue medication. Compared with NSAIDs, curcumin (OR = 0.51, 95% CI: 0.25 to 0.94) and curcumin + NSAIDs (OR = 0.23, 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.9) had a reduced incidence of adverse reactions. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve results indicated that curcumin monotherapy, curcumin + chondroprotective agents, and curcumin + NSAIDs have good clinical value in KOA treatment. CONCLUSIONS Curcumin, either alone or in combination with other treatments, is considered to have good clinical efficacy and safety in KOA treatment. Drug combinations containing curcumin may have the dual effect of enhancing efficacy and reducing adverse reactions, but this possibility still needs to be confirmed by further clinical and basic research.

Abstract
Mangoes (Mangifera indica) are widely prized for their abundant nutritional content and variety of beneficial bioactive compounds and are popularly utilized in various foods, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics industries. However, it is important to note that certain proteins present in mango can trigger various allergic reactions, ranging from mild oral allergy syndrome to severe life-threatening anaphylaxis. The immunoglobulin E-mediated hypersensitivity of mango is mainly associated with three major allergenic proteins: Man i 1 (class IV chitinase), Man i 2 (pathogenesis-related-10 protein; Bet v 1-related protein), and Man i 4 (profilin). Food processing techniques can significantly affect the structure of mango allergens, reducing their potential to cause allergies. However, it is worth mentioning that complete elimination of mango allergen immunoreactivity has not been achieved. The protection of individuals sensitized to mango should be carefully managed through an avoidance diet, immediate medical care, and long-term oral immunotherapy. This review covers various aspects related to mango allergy, including prevalence, pathogenesis, symptoms, and diagnosis. Furthermore, the characterization of mango allergens and their potential cross-reactivity with other fruits, vegetables, plant pollen, and seeds were discussed. The review also highlights the effects of food processing on mango and emphasizes the available strategies for managing mango allergy.

Abstract
Copper-containing stainless steel (SS) has been reported to mitigate biofilms in industrial and clinical environments. However, the impact of copper released from copper-containing SS in natural seawater on biofilms and corrosion is still unclear. In this study, three kinds of 316L SS were immersed in natural seawater for 6 months, and the pitting depth decreased in the order: 316L-Cu SS (annealed) > 316L SS > 316L-Cu SS (aged). The biofilm thickness and number of sessile cells on the surface of 316L-Cu SS (annealed) and 316L SS were similar but notably greater than those of 316L-Cu SS (aged). Furthermore, the results of the community analysis indicated that the addition of copper in 316L-Cu SS (aged) reduced the diversity and richness of the microbial community, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of genera constituting the biofilms. Copper ions exhibit a broad-spectrum bactericidal effect, effectively reducing the abundance of dominant populations and microbial genera in the biofilms, thereby mitigating pitting corrosion induced by microorganisms. In addition, the PCoA scatter plot showed that time also played an important role in the regulation of microbial community structure.

Abstract
Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the process e^{+}e^{-}→Σ^{+}Σ[over ¯]^{-} is studied at center-of-mass energies sqrt[s]=2.3960, 2.6454, and 2.9000 GeV. Using a fully differential angular description of the final state particles, both the relative magnitude and phase information of the Σ^{+} electromagnetic form factors in the timelike region are extracted. The relative phase between the electric and magnetic form factors is determined to be sinΔΦ=-0.67±0.29(stat)±0.18(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.3960 GeV, ΔΦ=55°±19°(stat)±14°(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.6454 GeV, and 78°±22°(stat)±9°(syst) at sqrt[s]=2.9000 GeV. For the first time, the phase of the hyperon electromagnetic form factors is explored in a wide range of four-momentum transfer. The evolution of the phase along with four-momentum transfer is an important input for understanding its asymptotic behavior and the dynamics of baryons.

Abstract
The effect of linoleic acid (LA) on the IgG/IgE recognition, in vitro digestibility and immunodetection of shrimp tropomyosin (TM) was investigated. Subsequently, the simultaneous binding of LA-TM was explored using multi-spectroscopic and molecular modeling techniques. Our findings reveled that the addition of LA significantly reduced TM's IgG/IgE immunoreactivity, digestibility, and immunodetection. Further analysis using multi-spectroscopic and molecular modeling techniques indicated that while TM's secondary structure remained largely unchanged, its 3-D structure showed significant alterations such as increased particle size and hydrophobic surface area, and a higher number of buried hydrophobic residues exposed due to the binding of LA to TM. These structural changes rendered it difficult for target antibodies and digestive enzymes to interact with related epitopes and cleavage sites buried inside the molecule. The results obtained in this study provide valuable insights into the molecular mechanism of poor immunodetection caused by food matrix interference.

Abstract
Objectives: To explore the clinical characteristics of children with adenoid hypertrophy (AH) and laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) by detecting the expression of pepsin in adenoids as a standard for AH with LPR. Methods: A total of 190 children who were admitted for surgical treatment due to AH were included in the study. The main clinical symptoms of the patients were recorded, and the degree of adenoid hypertrophy was evaluated. Before the surgery, Reflux Symptom Index (RSI) and Reflux Finding Score (RFS) were used to evaluate the reflux symptoms. After the surgery, pepsin immunohistochemical staining was performed on the adenoid tissue, and according to the staining results, the patients were divided into study group (pepsin staining positive) and control group (pepsin staining negative). SPSS 19.0 software was used for statistical analysis. Quantitative data conforming to normal distribution between the two groups were tested by two-independent sample t test, and quantitative data with skewed distribution were tested by Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The positive rate of pepsin staining in the 190 AH patients was 78.4% (149/190). The study group had higher levels of preoperative symptoms such as erythema and/or congestion of the pharynx(2.1±0.7 vs. 1.8±0.6,t=2.23), vocal cord edema[1.0(0, 1.0) vs. 1.0(0, 1.0), Z=2.00], diffuse laryngeal edema[0(0, 1.0) vs. 0(0, 0), Z=2.48], posterior commissure hypertrophy[(1.4±0.6 vs. 1.1±0.5), t=2.63], and a higher total score on the RFS scale than the control group(6.2±2.7 vs. 5.0±2.6, t=2.47), with statistical differences (P<0.05). The sensitivity and specificity of RFS score in diagnosing AH with LPR were 24.8% and 80.5%, respectively. When RFS>5 was used as the positive threshold, the sensitivity and specificity of RFS score in diagnosing AH with LPR were 61.1% and 58.5%, respectively. There was a statistical difference in the number of positive cases of RFS score between the study group and the control group(91 vs. 17,χ2=5.04,P=0.032). Conclusions: LPR is common in AH children. Children with AH and LPR have specific performance in electronic laryngoscopy, such as erythema with edema in the pharynx, posterior commissure hypertrophy, and vocal cord edema.

Intravenous Tranexamic Acid Significantly Improved Visualization and Shortened the Operation Time in Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Level I and II Studies. Arthroscopy 2024; 40:592-601. [PMID: 37423470 DOI: 10.1016/j.arthro.2023.06.055] [Citation(s) in RCA: 2] [Impact Index Per Article: 2.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/16/2023] [Revised: 06/23/2023] [Accepted: 06/23/2023] [Indexed: 07/11/2023]
Abstract
PURPOSE To further clarify the role of tranexamic acid (TXA) in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR), especially visual field clarity and operation time. METHODS We searched the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases to find prospective randomized controlled clinical trials (RCTs) examining the use of TXA in ARCR. All included RCTs were evaluated for methodological quality using the Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tool. We used Review Manager 5.3 for meta-analysis and calculated the weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of the related outcome indicators. The GRADE system was used to evaluate the strength of the clinical evidence provided by the included studies. RESULTS Six RCTs (3 Level I, 3 Level II) from four countries or regions were included in this study: 2 studies used intra-articular (IA) TXA, and 4 studies used intravenous TXA. A total of 451 patients underwent ARCR, including 227 patients in the TXA group and 224 patients in the non-TXA group. In 2 RCTs evaluating good visualization, intravenous TXA achieved a better surgical field of view in ARCR compared to the control group (P =.036; P = .045). Meta-analysis showed that compared with non-TXA, intravenous TXA shortened the operation time (WMD = -12.87 min, 95% CI: -18.81 to -6.93). These two RCTs did not reveal a statistically significant difference in the impact of intravenous TXA and non-TXA on mean arterial pressure (MAP) (P = .306; P = .549). Compared with epinephrine (EPN), IA TXA had no significant effects on improving the visual field clarity under arthroscopy, shortening the operation time or reducing the total amount of irrigation fluid (P > .05). Compared with saline irrigation, IA TXA improved the surgical field of vision and shortened the operation time (P < .001). No adverse events were reported for either intravenous TXA or IA TXA. CONCLUSIONS Intravenous TXA can shorten the operation time of ARCR, and the conclusions of existing RCTs suggest that intravenous TXA can improve visual field clarity during ARCR, thus supporting the application of intravenous TXA in ARCR. Compared with EPN, IA TXA was not better at improving the visual field clarity under arthroscopy and shortening the operation time, but it was better than saline irrigation. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE Level II, systematic review and meta-analysis of Level I and II studies.

The relationship and diagnostic efficacy of N-terminal propeptide type III collagen in pathological changes associated with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. EUROPEAN REVIEW FOR MEDICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SCIENCES 2024; 28:1052-1059. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study delves into the role of N-terminal propeptide type III collagen (PIIINP) in the diagnosis and management of liver pathological changes associated with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). PATIENTS AND METHODS We collected baseline information, pathological data, and serum PIIINP levels of 168 patients diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) via ultrasound imaging in our hospital. Based on the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease activity score (NAS), patients with different NAFLD patterns were divided into a Definite NASH group and a Not/borderline group. Differences in PIIINP levels and pathological features between the two groups were compared and analyzed. The diagnostic value of PIIINP for NASH was evaluated using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. RESULTS Patients with NASH exhibited significantly higher values of homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), fibrosis biomarker fibrosis-4 (FIB-4), aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (APRI), and serum PIIINP levels than those classified as Not/borderline. A marked increase in the serum concentrations of PIIINP was observed with the severity of fatty degeneration, lobular inflammation, and hepatocellular ballooning. The AUC of PIIINP for diagnosing definite NASH was 0.766 (95% CI: 0.694, 0.839), APRI was 0.634 (95% CI: 0.549, 0.718), and FIB-4 was 0.621 (95% CI: 0.534, 0.708). The AUC of PIIINP for diagnosing definite NASH was significantly higher than that of APRI and FIB-4 (all p<0.05). Utilizing the predetermined threshold values for diagnostic parameters, the PIIINP measure demonstrated a sensitivity of 71.6% and a specificity of 73.6% in diagnosing definitive NASH when its value exceeded 7.72 ng/dL. This yielded a Youden index of 0.45. Similarly, when the APRI measure exceeded 0.21, it exhibited a sensitivity of 60.5% and a specificity of 63.2%, resulting in a Youden index of 0.24. Moreover, when the FIB-4 index surpassed 0.26, it showed a sensitivity of 46.9% and a specificity of 79.3%, culminating in a Youden index of 0.26. CONCLUSIONS NASH patients in this study exhibited significantly elevated PIIINP serum levels, which were closely associated with hepatocyte pathological changes. PIIINP demonstrated superior competence in diagnosing NASH than APRI and FIB-4 and thus offers a viable alternative for the clinical diagnosis of NASH.

Abstract
Based on 4.4 fb^{-1} of e^{+}e^{-} annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energies between 4.60 and 4.70 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the pure W-boson-exchange decay Λ_{c}^{+}→Ξ^{0}K^{+} is studied with a full angular analysis. The corresponding decay asymmetry is measured for the first time to be α_{Ξ^{0}K^{+}}=0.01±0.16(stat)±0.03(syst). This result reflects the noninterference effect between the S- and P-wave amplitudes. The phase shift between S- and P-wave amplitudes has two solutions, which are δ_{p}-δ_{s}=-1.55±0.25(stat)±0.05(syst) rad or 1.59±0.25(stat)±0.05(syst) rad.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The therapeutic efficacy and molecular mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs), such as Liuwei Dihuang pills (LWDH pills), in treating osteoporosis (OP) remain an area of active research and interest in modern medicine. This study investigated the mechanistic underpinnings of LWDH pills in the treatment of OP based on network pharmacology, bioinformatics, and in vitro experiments. METHODS The active ingredients and targets of LWDH pills were retrieved through the TCMSP database. OP-related targets were identified using the CTD, GeneCards, and DisGeNET databases. The STRING platform was employed to construct a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network, and core targets for LWDH pills in treating OP were identified. The GO functional and KEGG pathway enrichment analyses for potential targets were performed using the R package "clusterProfiler". A "drug-target" network diagram was created using Cytoscape 3.7.1 software. The viability of MC3T3-E1 cells was evaluated using the CCK-8 method after treatment with various concentrations (1.25%, 2.5%, 5%, and 10%) of LWDH pill-medicated serum for 24, 48, and 72 h. Following a 48 h treatment of MC3T3-E1 cells with LWDH pill-medicated serum, the protein levels of collagen Ⅰ, RUNX2, Wnt3, and β-catenin were quantified using the Western blot analysis, and the activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) was measured. RESULTS A total of 197 putative targets for LWDH pills for OP treatment were pinpointed, from which 20 core targets were singled out, including TP53, JUN, TNF, CTNNB1 (β-catenin), and GSK3B. The putative targets were predominantly involved in signaling pathways such as the Wnt signaling pathway, the MAPK signaling pathway, and the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway. The intervention with LWDH pill-medicated serum for 24, 48, and 72 h did not result in any notable alterations in the cell viability of MC3T3-E1 cells relative to the control group (all p > 0.05). Significant upregulation in protein levels of collagen Ⅰ, RUNX2, Wnt3, and β-catenin in MC3T3-E1 cells was observed in response to the treatment with 2.5%, 5%, and 10% of LWDH pill-medicated serum in comparison to that with the 10% rabbit serum group (all p < 0.05). Furthermore, the intervention with LWDH pill-medicated serum resulted in the formation of red calcified nodules in MC3T3-E1 cells, as indicated by ARS staining. CONCLUSIONS LWDH pills may upregulate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway to elevate the expression of osteogenic differentiation proteins, including collagen Ⅰ and RUNX2, and to increase the ALP activity in MC3T3-E1 cells for the treatment of OP.

Measurement of the production cross section for a W boson in association with a charm quark in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV. THE EUROPEAN PHYSICAL JOURNAL. C, PARTICLES AND FIELDS 2024; 84:27. Abstract
The strange quark content of the proton is probed through the measurement of the production cross section for a W boson and a charm (c) quark in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13Te V . The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 138fb - 1 collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The W bosons are identified through their leptonic decays to an electron or a muon, and a neutrino. Charm jets are tagged using the presence of a muon or a secondary vertex inside the jet. The W + c production cross section and the cross section ratio R c ± = σ ( W + + c ¯ ) / σ ( W - + c ) are measured inclusively and differentially as functions of the transverse momentum and the pseudorapidity of the lepton originating from the W boson decay. The precision of the measurements is improved with respect to previous studies, reaching 1% in R c ± = 0.950 ± 0.005 (stat) ± 0.010 (syst) . The measurements are compared with theoretical predictions up to next-to-next-to-leading order in perturbative quantum chromodynamics.

Abstract
Due to an increase in the aging population, osteoarthritis (OA), especially knee osteoarthritis (KOA), has increasingly become one of the diseases affecting the quality of life of the elderly. As the pathogenesis of KOA is still unclear, Western medicine treatment lacks specificity, and surgical treatment is difficult to cover all patients. Therefore, in recent years, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for the conservative treatment of KOA has received increasing attention. The advantages of TCM are clear, such as relief of symptoms, fewer adverse reactions, and wider applicability to patients. This paper mainly discusses the research progress in single-herb TCM and TCM compounds for KOA, aiming to demonstrate the effectiveness of TCM in the treatment of KOA. It also provides ideas for future research on the treatment of KOA by TCM and the pathogenesis of knee osteoarthritis.

Zhao J, Zeng L, Liang G, Luo M, Yang W, Liu J, Pan J. Risk factors for symptomatic rotator cuff tears: a retrospective case-control study. Front Med (Lausanne) 2024; 10:1321939. [PMID: 38239617 PMCID: PMC10794627 DOI: 10.3389/fmed.2023.1321939] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Figures] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 10/17/2023] [Accepted: 12/14/2023] [Indexed: 01/22/2024] Open
Abstract
Background The incidence and diagnostic rate of rotator cuff tears (RCTs) have increased significantly. The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the risk factors for symptomatic RCTs to provide a basis for their prevention and treatment. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the relevant clinical indicators of 193 randomized clinical trial (RCT) patients and 161 non-RCT patients hospitalized with shoulder pain as the main complaint from January 1, 2017, to August 31, 2021. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to analyze the differences in potential risk factors between the two groups. Results Univariate analysis revealed that age (p < 0.001), body mass index (BMI) (p = 0.036), hypertension (p < 0.001), coronary heart disease (p = 0.028), history of shoulder trauma (p < 0.001), hyperlipidemia (p = 0.025), type III acromion (p = 0.012) and critical shoulder angle (CSA) (p < 0.001) increased the risk of RCTs. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that age ≥ 60 years (OR = 2.61, 95% CI = 1.23 to 5.12), CSA ≥ 35° (OR = 4.24, 95% CI = 1.60 to 11.22), hypertension (OR = 2.34, 95% CI = 1.33 to 4.11) and history of shoulder trauma (OR = 5.20, 95% CI = 2.87 to 9.45) were independent risk factors for symptomatic RCTs. Conclusion The results of this study showed that age ≥ 60 years, CSA ≥35°, hypertension and history of shoulder trauma are independent risk factors for symptomatic RCTs and can provide directions for further development of prevention and treatment strategies. Future studies need to clarify the mechanism underlying the association between these risk factors and symptomatic RCTs.
