Abstract
OBJECTIVES Research on parent-child interaction (PCI) and its impact on children's weight status is a thriving study area. However, their potential pathways have not been established. This study investigated the association between PCI and children's body-mass index z score (BMIz) examining the role of appetite self-regulation (ASR) as a mediator. STUDY DESIGN Mediation analysis. METHODS We included children from 33 kindergartens in Wuhan with parents' consent, measuring children's height and weight, and calculating BMIz. To assess the PCI quality, we utilized the Brigance Parent-Child Interactions Scale. Additionally, children's ASR was tested by satiety responsiveness (SR) and food responsiveness (FR) using the Children's Eating Behavior Questionnaire. Quantile regression was employed to examine the PCI-BMIz association, while mediation analysis was conducted to explore ASR's mediating effect on the relationship between PCI and BMIz. RESULTS Of 3973 children (53.88% boys) included in the analysis, the mean BMIz was 0.24 ± 1.13. The results revealed that children with poorer PCI quality have higher BMIz across all selected BMIz percentiles, except for the 5th percentile. Furthermore, these associations were significant across most percentiles, whether for boys or girls. Mediation analysis suggested that these associations were partially mediated by children's ASR (indFR = -0.026, PFR < 0.001; indSR = -0.058, PSR < 0.001), with stronger effects observed among boys. CONCLUSION The variation in how strongly BMIz was linked to PCI across different percentiles suggests that children with poorer PCI have higher BMIz. The link is partially mediated through children's ASR. It's important to pay attention to the PCI quality in children with higher BMIz levels, especially in boys.

Combined surgical luxation and orthodontic traction treatment of a severely infraoccluded primary molar with deep caries: a case report and literature review. EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY 2024:1. Abstract
BACKGROUND Infraocclusion refers to a tooth located below the occlusal surface compared to adjacent teeth long after it should have reached occlusion. Ankylosis is frequently associated with the infraocclusion of primary molars, but it is challenging to distinguish between the two conditions. Surgical luxation and orthodontic traction have been applied for the treatment of ankylosed, infraoccluded permanent teeth, but reports on primary molars are scarce. CASE REPORT A 5-year-old boy presented with a severely infraoccluded primary mandibular second molar with deep caries. A partial pulpotomy was performed to treat the affected tooth when the pulp was exposed after caries removal. A combination of surgical luxation and orthodontic tractionwas performed for the affected tooth, and after 5 months, the tooth successfully erupted to the occlusal level. During the follow-up period of two years, no complications were observed. CONCLUSION This report identified that surgical luxation, in conjunction with orthodontic traction, is effective and feasible for severely infraoccluded primary teeth. Additionally, partial pulpotomy may be an alternative for vital pulp therapy on primary teeth.

High-Performance Intrinsically Stretchable Organic Photovoltaics Enabled by Robust Silver Nanowires/S-PH1000 Hybrid Transparent Electrodes. Abstract
Intrinsically stretchable organic photovoltaics (is-OPVs) hold significant promise for integration into self-powered wearable electronics. However, their potential is hindered by the lack of sufficient consistency between optoelectronic and mechanical properties. This is primarily due to the limited availability of stretchable transparent electrodes (STEs) that possess both high conductivity and stretchability. Here, a hybrid STE with exceptional conductivity, stretchability, and thermal stability is presented. Specifically, STEs are composed of the modified PH1000 (referred to as S-PH1000) and silver nanowires (AgNWs). The S-PH1000 endows the STE with good stretchability and smoothens the surface, while the AgNWs enhance the charge transport. The resulting hybrid STEs enable is-OPVs to a remarkable power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 16.32%, positioning them among the top-performing is-OPVs. With 10% elastomer, the devices retain 82% of the initial PCE after 500 cycles at 20% strain. Additionally, OPVs equipped with these STEs exhibit superior thermal stability compared to those using indium tin oxide electrodes, maintaining 75% of the initial PCE after annealing at 85 °C for 390 h. The findings underscore the suitability of the designed hybrid electrodes for efficient and stable is-OPVs, offering a promising avenue for the future application of OPVs.

Loss of Tet hydroxymethylase activity causes mouse embryonic stem cell differentiation bias and developmental defects. SCIENCE CHINA. LIFE SCIENCES 2024; 67:2132-2148. Abstract
The TET family is well known for active DNA demethylation and plays important roles in regulating transcription, the epigenome and development. Nevertheless, previous studies using knockdown (KD) or knockout (KO) models to investigate the function of TET have faced challenges in distinguishing its enzymatic and nonenzymatic roles, as well as compensatory effects among TET family members, which has made the understanding of the enzymatic role of TET not accurate enough. To solve this problem, we successfully generated mice catalytically inactive for specific Tet members (Tetm/m). We observed that, compared with the reported KO mice, mutant mice exhibited distinct developmental defects, including growth retardation, sex imbalance, infertility, and perinatal lethality. Notably, Tetm/m mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs) were successfully established but entered an impaired developmental program, demonstrating extended pluripotency and defects in ectodermal differentiation caused by abnormal DNA methylation. Intriguingly, Tet3, traditionally considered less critical for mESCs due to its lower expression level, had a significant impact on the global hydroxymethylation, gene expression, and differentiation potential of mESCs. Notably, there were common regulatory regions between Tet1 and Tet3 in pluripotency regulation. In summary, our study provides a more accurate reference for the functional mechanism of Tet hydroxymethylase activity in mouse development and ESC pluripotency regulation.

Abstract
A study of resonant structures in B^{+}→D^{*+}D^{-}K^{+} and B^{+}→D^{*-}D^{+}K^{+} decays is performed, using proton-proton collision data at center-of-mass energies of sqrt[s]=7, 8, and 13 TeV recorded by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. A simultaneous amplitude fit is performed to the two channels with contributions from resonances decaying to D^{*-}D^{+} and D^{*+}D^{-} states linked by C parity. This procedure allows the C parities of resonances in the D^{*±}D^{∓} mass spectra to be determined. Four charmonium or charmoniumlike states are observed decaying into D^{*±}D^{∓}: η_{c}(3945), h_{c}(4000), χ_{c1}(4010), and h_{c}(4300), with quantum numbers J^{PC} equal to 0^{-+}, 1^{+-}, 1^{++}, and 1^{+-}, respectively. At least three of these states have not been observed previously. In addition, the existence of the T_{c[over ¯]s[over ¯]0}^{*}(2870)^{0} and T_{c[over ¯]s[over ¯]1}^{*}(2900)^{0} resonances in the D^{-}K^{+} mass spectrum, already observed in the B^{+}→D^{+}D^{-}K^{+} decay, is confirmed in a different production channel.

Abstract
Cow milk, although rich in essential nutrients, is a well-known allergic food that can cause allergic reactions in infants and young children. β-Lactoglobulin accounts for 10% of the total protein in milk and 50% of the whey protein, which has high nutritional value and excellent functional properties but is also the main allergen leading to milk protein allergy. Exploring the mechanism of milk allergy and selecting suitable separation and purification methods to obtain high-purity β-Lactoglobulin is the premise of research on reducing allergenicity. In this review, the research progress in membrane technology, gel filtration chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, affinity chromatography, precipitation and aqueous 2-phase system separation for the separation and purification of milk β-Lactoglobulin is reviewed in detail to promote the further development of milk β-Lactoglobulin separation and purification methods and provide a new method for the development of hypoallergenic dairy products in the future. Among these methods, ion exchange chromatography and gel chromatography are widely used, precipitation is generally used as a crude purification step, and high-performance liquid chromatography and membrane technology are used for further purification to improve the purity of allergens.

Abstract
X-ray ablation dynamics of the planar foil with preimposed sinusoidal ripples is investigated at the SG 100 kJ Laser Facility. A significant fraction of the second harmonics is observed and identified at the beginning of the ablative drive when the amplitude of the perturbation is within the linear regime. With radiation-hydrodynamic simulations and a developed simple model, we can reveal that such a novel phenomenon is due to the fact that a sustained deformation of the ablation front is initiated since the ablation pressure is directed to the normal direction of the perturbation surface. We find that this deformation dominates the early-time perturbation evolution and results in a specific stage in addition to the traditional ablative Richtmyer-Meshkov instability phase. Our results can be applicable to various regions such as implosions in inertial confinement fusion and the dynamics of molecular clouds in astrophysics.

Abstract
We developed a model of inflammation and airway remodeling in C57 mice provoked by exosomes derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells infected by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The mean size of control and infected exosomes in vitro were 167.9 and 118.5 nm, respectively. After induction of modeled pathology, the severity of airway inflammation and its remodeling were analyzed by histopathological methods. In addition, the blood levels of inflammatory factors IL-10, IL-17, transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β), and TNFα were assayed; in the lung tissues, the expression levels of MMP-2, MMP-9, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), and TGF-β were measured. In the developed model, the effects of RSV-induced and non-induced exosomes were compared with those of inactivated and non-inactivated RSV. Intranasal administration of RSV-induced exosomes decreased the levels of serum inflammatory factors IL-10 and IL-17 and increased the expression of serum proinflammatory cytokine TNFα. Increased levels of MMP-2, MMP-9, and α-SMA, enhanced expression of TGF-β in the lung tissue, and pathological staining of the lung tissues indicated infiltration with inflammatory cells and luminal constriction. Thus, RSV-induced exosomes can provoke airway inflammation and remodeling in mice similar to RSV, while non-induced exosomes cannot produce such alterations.

Abstract
Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a chronic and serious complication of diabetes mellitus. It is mainly caused by hyperglycaemia, diabetic peripheral vasculopathy and diabetic peripheral neuropathy. These conditions result in ulceration of foot tissues and chronic wounds. If left untreated, DFU can lead to amputation or even endanger the patient's life. Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) is a technique used to identify and characterise transcriptional subpopulations at the single-cell level. It provides insight into cellular function and the molecular drivers of disease. The objective of this paper is to examine the subpopulations, genes and molecules of cells associated with chronic wounds of diabetic foot by using scRNA-seq. The paper aims to explore the wound-healing mechanism of DFU from three aspects: inflammation, angiogenesis and extracellular matrix remodelling. The goal is to gain a better understanding of the mechanism of DFU wound healing and identify possible DFU therapeutic targets, providing new insights for the application of DFU personalised therapy.

Abstract
π-Stacking, a type of noncovalent interactions involving aromatic residues, plays an important role in protein folding and function. In this work, an attempt has been made to measure CH/π and NH/π stacking interactions in a protein in Escherichia coli cells using a combined double-mutant cycle and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy method. The results show that the CH/π and NH/π stacking interactions are generally weaker in cells than those in the buffer. The transient intermolecular noncovalent interactions between the protein and the complex cellular environment may compete with and thus weaken the stacking interactions in the protein. The weakening of stacking interactions can enhance the local conformational opening of proteins in E. coli cells. This is evident from the faster rates of amide hydrogen/deuterium exchange observed in cells than in the buffer, for residues that undergo local conformational opening. This study highlights the influence of the cellular environment on π-stacking and the conformational dynamics of proteins.

Strong and Weak CP Tests in Sequential Decays of Polarized Σ^{0} Hyperons. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2024; 133:101902. Abstract
The J/ψ, ψ(3686)→Σ^{0}Σ[over ¯]^{0} processes and subsequent decays are studied using the world's largest J/ψ and ψ(3686) data samples collected with the BESIII detector. The parity-violating decay parameters of the decays Σ^{0}→Λγ and Σ[over ¯]^{0}→Λ[over ¯]γ, α_{Σ^{0}}=-0.0017±0.0021±0.0018 and α[over ¯]_{Σ^{0}}=0.0021±0.0020±0.0022, are measured for the first time. The strong CP symmetry is tested in the decays of the Σ^{0} hyperons for the first time by measuring the asymmetry A_{CP}^{Σ}=α_{Σ^{0}}+α[over ¯]_{Σ^{0}}=(0.4±2.9±1.3)×10^{-3}. The weak CP test is performed in the subsequent decays of their daughter particles Λ and Λ[over ¯]. Also for the first time, the transverse polarizations of the Σ^{0} hyperons in J/ψ and ψ(3686) decays are observed with opposite directions, and the ratios between the S-wave and D-wave contributions of the J/ψ, ψ(3686)→Σ^{0}Σ[over ¯]^{0} decays are obtained. These results are crucial to understand the decay dynamics of the charmonium states and the production mechanism of the Σ^{0}-Σ[over ¯]^{0} pairs.

Abstract
Terpene synthases (TPSs), key gatekeepers in the biosynthesis of herbivore-induced terpenes, are pivotal in the diversity of terpene chemotypes across and within plant species. Here, we constructed a gene-based pangenome of the Gossypium genus by integrating the genomes of 17 diploid and 10 tetraploid species. Within this pangenome, 208 TPS syntelog groups (SGs) were identified, comprising 2 core SGs (TPS5 and TPS42) present in all 27 analyzed genomes, 6 softcore SGs (TPS11, TPS12, TPS13, TPS35, TPS37, and TPS47) found in 25 to 26 genomes, 131 dispensable SGs identified in 2 to 24 genomes, and 69 private SGs exclusive to a single genome. The mutational load analysis of these identified TPS genes across 216 cotton accessions revealed a great number of splicing variants and complex splicing patterns. The nonsynonymous/synonymous Ka/Ks value for all 52 analyzed TPS SGs was less than one, indicating that these genes were subject to purifying selection. Of 208 TPS SGs encompassing 1795 genes, 362 genes derived from 102 SGs were identified as atypical and truncated. The structural analysis of TPS genes revealed that gene truncation is a major mechanism contributing to the formation of atypical genes. An integrated analysis of three RNA-seq datasets from cotton plants subjected to herbivore infestation highlighted nine upregulated TPSs, which included six previously characterized TPSs in G. hirsutum (AD1_TPS10, AD1_TPS12, AD1_TPS40, AD1_TPS42, AD1_TPS89, and AD1_TPS104), two private TPSs (AD1_TPS100 and AD2_TPS125), and one atypical TPS (AD2_TPS41). Also, a TPS-associated coexpression module of eight genes involved in the terpenoid biosynthesis pathway was identified in the transcriptomic data of herbivore-infested G. hirsutum. These findings will help us understand the contributions of TPS family members to interspecific terpene chemotypes within Gossypium and offer valuable resources for breeding insect-resistant cotton cultivars.

Abstract
A measurement of time-dependent CP violation in D^{0}→π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} decays using a pp collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment in 2012 and from 2015 to 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.7 fb^{-1}, is presented. The initial flavor of each D^{0} candidate is determined from the charge of the pion produced in the D^{*}(2010)^{+}→D^{0}π^{+} decay. The decay D^{0}→K^{-}π^{+}π^{0} is used as a control channel to validate the measurement procedure. The gradient of the time-dependent CP asymmetry ΔY in D^{0}→π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} decays is measured to be ΔY=(-1.3±6.3±2.4)×10^{-4}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, which is compatible with CP conservation.

Abstract
High-rate lithium/sodium ion batteries or capacitors are the most promising functional units to achieve fast energy storage that highly depends on charge host materials. Host materials with lamellar structures are a good choice for hybrid charge storage hosts (capacitor or redox type). Emerging layered transition metal carbo-chalcogenides (TMCC) with homogeneous sulfur termination are especially attractive for charge storage. Using density functional theory calculations, six of 30 potential TMCC are screened to be stable, metallic, anisotropic in electronic conduction and mechanical properties due to the lamellar structures. Raman, infrared active modes and frequencies of the six TMCC are well assigned. Interlayer coupling, especially binding energies predict that the bulk layered materials can be easily exfoliated into 2D monolayers. Moreover, Ti2S2C, Zr2S2C are identified as the most gifted Li+/Na+ anode materials with relatively high capacities, moderate volume expansion, relatively low Li+/Na+ migration barriers for batteries or ion-hybrid capacitors. This work provides a foundation for rational materials design, synthesis, and identification of the emerging 2D family of TMCC.

A modified flexible GnRH antagonist protocol using antagonist early cessation and a gonadotropin step-down approach improves live birth rates in fresh cycles: a randomized controlled trial. Abstract
STUDY QUESTION Can pregnancy outcomes following fresh elective single embryo transfer (eSET) in gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist protocols increase using a gonadotropin (Gn) step-down approach with cessation of GnRH antagonist on the day of hCG administration (hCG day) in patients with normal ovarian response? SUMMARY ANSWER The modified GnRH antagonist protocol using the Gn step-down approach and cessation of GnRH antagonist on the hCG day is effective in improving live birth rates (LBRs) per fresh eSET cycle. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Currently, there is no consensus on optimal GnRH antagonist regimens. Studies have shown that fresh GnRH antagonist cycles result in poorer pregnancy outcomes than the long GnRH agonist (GnRHa) protocol. Endometrial receptivity is a key factor that contributes to this phenomenon. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION An open label randomized controlled trial (RCT) was performed between November 2021 and August 2022. There were 546 patients allocated to either the modified GnRH antagonist or the conventional antagonist protocol at a 1:1 ratio. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Both IVF and ICSI cycles were included, and the sperm samples used were either fresh or frozen from the partner, or from frozen donor ejaculates. The primary outcome was the LBRs per fresh SET cycle. Secondary outcomes included rates of implantation, clinical and ongoing pregnancy, miscarriage, and ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), as well as clinical outcomes of ovarian stimulation. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Baseline demographic features were not significantly different between the two ovarian stimulation groups. However, in the intention-to-treat (ITT) population, the LBRs in the modified antagonist group were significantly higher than in the conventional group (38.1% [104/273] vs. 27.5% [75/273], relative risk 1.39 [95% CI, 1.09-1.77], P = 0.008). Using a per-protocol (PP) analysis which included all the patients who received an embryo transfer, the LBRs in the modified antagonist group were also significantly higher than in the conventional group (48.6% [103/212] vs. 36.8% [74/201], relative risk 1.32 [95% CI, 1.05-1.66], P = 0.016). The modified antagonist group achieved significantly higher implantation rates, and clinical and ongoing pregnancy rates than the conventional group in both the ITT and PP analyses (P < 0.05). The two groups did not show significant differences between the number of oocytes retrieved or mature oocytes, two-pronuclear zygote (2PN) rates, the number of embryos obtained, blastocyst progression and good-quality embryo rates, early miscarriage rates, or OHSS incidence rates (P > 0.05). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION A limitation of our study was that the subjects were not blinded to the treatment allocation in the RCT trial. Only women under 40 years of age who had a good prognosis were included in the analysis. Therefore, use of the modified antagonist protocol in older patients with a low ovarian reserve remains to be investigated. In addition, the sample size for Day 5 elective SET was small, so larger trials will be required to strengthen these findings. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS The modified GnRH antagonist protocol using the Gn step-down approach and cessation of GnRH antagonist on hCG day improved the LBRs per fresh eSET cycle in normal responders. STUDY FUNDING/COMPETING INTEREST(S) This project was funded by grant 2022YFC2702503 from the National Key Research & Development Program of China and grant 2021140 from the Beijing Health Promotion Association. The authors declare no conflicts of interest. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER The RCT was registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry; Study Number: ChiCTR2100053453. TRIAL REGISTRATION DATE 21 November 2021. DATE OF FIRST PATIENT’S ENROLLMENT 23 November 2021.

Abstract
Dry eye disease (DED) is a kind of multifactorial ocular surface disease that displays ocular discomfort, visual disturbance, and tear film instability. Oxidative stress is a fundamental pathogenesis in DED. An imbalance between the reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and protective enzyme action will lead to oxidative stress, cell dysfunction, tear hyperosmolarity, and inflammation. Herein, a multifunctional cerium oxide nanozyme with high ocular surface retention property was designed to neutralize over-accumulated ROS and restore redox balance. Cerium oxide nanozymes were fabricated via branched polyethylenimine-graft-poly (ethylene glycol) nucleation and dispersion, followed by phenylboronic acid (PBA) functionalization (defined as Ce@PB). Due to the dynamic chemical bonding formation between the PBA segment and the cis-diol groups in the mucin layer of the tear film, Ce@PB nanozymes possess good adhesive capability to the ocular surface, thus extending the drug's retention time. On the other hand, Ce@PB nanozymes could mimic the cascade processes of superoxide dismutase and catalase to maintain intracellular redox balance. In vitro and in vivo studies suggest that such multifunctional nanozymes possess good biocompatibility and hemocompatibility. More importantly, Ce@PB nanozymes treatment in the animal model could repair corneal epithelial defect, increase the number of goblet cells and promote tear secretion, thus achieving an effective treatment for DED. Abstract
Androgen-regulated DNA damage response (DDR) is one of the essential mechanisms in prostate cancer (PCa), a hormone-sensitive disease. The heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein K (hnRNPK)-homology splicing regulatory protein known as far upstream element-binding protein 2 (KHSRP) is an RNA-binding protein that can attach to AU-rich elements in the 3' untranslated region (3'-UTR) of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) to mediate mRNA decay and emerges as a critical regulator in the DDR to preserve genome integrity. Nevertheless, how KHSRP responds to androgen-regulated DDR in PCa development remains unclear. This study found that androgen can significantly induce acetylation of KHSRP, which intrinsically drives tumor growth in xenografted mice. Moreover, enhanced KHSRP acetylation upon androgen stimuli impedes KHSRP-regulated DDR gene expression, as seen by analyzing RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) datasets. Additionally, NAD-dependent protein deacetylase sirtuin-7 (SIRT7) is a promising deacetylase of KHSRP, and androgen stimuli impairs its interaction with KHSRP to sustain the increased KHSRP acetylation level in PCa. We first report the acetylation of KHSRP induced by androgen, which interrupts the KHSRP-regulated mRNA decay of the DDR-related genes to promote the tumorigenesis of PCa. This study provides insight into KHSRP biology and potential therapeutic strategies for PCa treatment, particularly that of castration-resistant PCa.

Abstract
High-fat diet (HFD) feeding is known to cause intestinal barrier disruption, thereby triggering severe intestinal inflammatory disease. Indole-3-aldehyde (IAld) has emerged as a potential candidate for mitigating inflammatory responses and maintaining intestinal homeostasis. However, the role of IAld in the HFD-related intestinal disruption remains unclear. In this study, 48 7 week-old male C57BL/6J mice were assigned to four groups: the normal chow diet (NCD) group received a NCD; the HFD group was fed an HFD; the HFD + IAld200 group was supplemented with 200 mg/kg IAld in the HFD; and the HFD + IAld600 group was supplemented with 600 mg/kg IAld in the HFD. The results showed that dietary IAld supplementation ameliorated fat accumulation and metabolic disorders, which are associated with reduced intestinal permeability. This reduction potentially led to decreased systemic inflammation and enhanced intestinal barrier function in HFD-fed mice. Furthermore, we found that IAld promoted intestinal stem cell (ISC) proliferation by activating aryl hydrocarbon receptors (AHRs) in vivo and ex vivo. These findings suggest that IAld restores the HFD-induced intestinal barrier disruption by promoting AHR-mediated ISC proliferation.

Abstract
Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.80 to 4.95 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 fb^{-1}, a measurement of Born cross sections for the e^{+}e^{-}→D^{0}D[over ¯]^{0} and D^{+}D^{-} processes is presented with unprecedented precision. Many clear peaks in the line shape of e^{+}e^{-}→D^{0}D[over ¯]^{0} and D^{+}D^{-} around the mass range of G(3900), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4260), and ψ(4415), etc., are foreseen. These results offer crucial experimental insights into the nature of hadron production in the open-charm region.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the potential evidence of active peripheral nerve necrosis when n-hexane produces toxic effects on peripheral nerves. Methods: In May 2023, 36 SPF grade SD male rats with a body weight of 200-220 g were divided into 4 groups with 9 rats in each group and given normal saline and different doses of n-hexane (168, 675, 2 700 mg/kg) by gavage for 6 consecutive weeks (5 days/week). Three rats in each group were killed at the 2nd, 4th and 6th week, respectively. The spinal cord to sciatic nerve tissue was broken and the supernatant was extracted for SDS-PAGE protein isolation. The expression level of Sarm1 protein was analyzed with the β-Actin color strip of internal reference protein by Western blot. The expression of Sarm1 protein was analyzed by the gray ratio of the two. At the 6th week, the sciatic nerve sections of the each group were observed by light microscope and electron microscope. Results: The number of axons was obviously reduced by light microscopy. According to electron microscope, myelin lesions were mainly local disintegration, deformation, and different thickness. The deformation of axonal surface became smaller. The axons in the nerve bundle membrane showed degeneration and reduction. The gray ratio of Sarm1 protein and internal reference protein bands in each group had no significant change at the second week of exposure, and the ratio of SARM1 protein to internal reference protein bands was 1.47 in the high dose group at the fourth week, and 1.51 and 1.89 in the middle and high dose group at the sixth week, respectively. Conclusion: Waller's degeneration was observed in sciatic neuropathologic manifestations of n-hexane-poisoned rats, and the expression level of Sarm1 protein increased.
