Abstract
BACKGROUND The Physician Assistant (PA) workforce falls short of mirroring national demographics mainly due to a lack of diversity in student enrollment. Few studies have systematically examined diversity across PA programs at the national level, and little is known about best practices for consistently graduating a diverse group of students. We descriptively characterized the extent to which PA programs are graduating a diverse group of students and identified top performing PA programs. METHODS Data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) were used to calculate the number and proportion of racial or ethnically diverse graduates. The study sample included 139 accredited PA programs that had graduated a minimum of five cohorts from 2014-2018. Within each of the United States Census Divisions, programs were ranked according to the number and proportion of graduates who were underrepresented minority (URM) race, Hispanic ethnicity, and of non-white (URM race, Hispanic, and Asian). RESULTS Amongst PA programs in the United States, a large disparity in the number and proportion of racial and ethnic graduates was observed. Of 34,625 PA graduates, only 2,207 (6.4%) were Hispanic ethnicity and 1,220 (3.5%) were URM race. Furthermore, a large number of diverse graduates came from a small number of top performing programs. CONCLUSION Despite the abundance of evidence for the need to diversify the healthcare workforce, PA programs have had difficulty recruiting and graduating a diverse group of students. This study provides empirical evidence that PA programs have not been able to attain the level of diversity necessary to shift the lack of diversity in the PA workforce. Based upon this study's findings, the top performing PA programs can be used as role models to establish benchmarks for other programs. The results of this descriptive study are currently being used to guide a qualitative study to identify the top performers' strategies for success.

Abstract
Introduction On July 22, 2020, the Japanese government launched the "Go to Travel" campaign that subsidizes 50% of personal travel expenditure to support the tourism industry under the COVID-19 pandemic. This policy was controversial from the viewpoint of infection spread and was temporarily cancelled in December 2020, though there was no statistical evidence. Methods This is the first study that measures the extent to which this campaign increased COVID-19 cases. This study regards the campaign as a natural experiment: although Tokyo and its commuting areas experienced the same time-series trends of COVID-19 cases before the "Go To Travel" campaign, this campaign was implemented in areas outside Tokyo, but not in Tokyo. Then, the comparison (difference-in-differences) yields the campaign's effect. Results The estimation shows that the "Go To Travel" campaign significantly raised the increment rate of cases by 23.7%-34.4% during July 30-August 4. There is no significant effect after August 5. In addition, our simulation identified the number of campaign-related cases in each city. Conclusions Although the campaign significantly spread COVID-19, the effect was not continuous to permanently change the time-series trend.

Abstract
Objective: This study is the first to examine the influence of e-cigarette emission phrasing on perceived harm of secondhand exposure, and whether harm perception was associated with support for a tobacco-free campus policy. Participants: In the fall 2018 and spring 2019 semesters, 52 sections of a college English course (N = 791 students) were cluster randomized to one of three conditions ("vapor," "aerosol," or "chemicals") assessing harm of secondhand exposure to e-cigarette emissions. Methods: Regression models adjusted for demographic characteristics, tobacco use, and other potential confounders. Results: Compared to the "vapor" condition, "chemicals" and "aerosol" conditions were associated with increased odds of perceiving secondhand exposure to e-cigarettes to be harmful/very harmful (AOR = 2.0, p < 0.01). Greater perceived harm of secondhand e-cigarette exposure was associated with increased odds of supporting a tobacco-free campus policy (AOR = 2.22, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Health campaigns should use accurate terminology to describe e-cigarette emissions, rather than jargon that conveys lower risk.

P-131 The fate of irregularly divided blastomeres: why does “Direct cleavage” reduce blastocyst development rate but not blastocyst euploid rate? Hum Reprod 2022. Abstract
Abstract
Study question
How do the blastomeres formed by direct cleavage (dynamics of one cell dividing into three or more cells) subsequently develop?
Summary answer
About half of the blastomeres by direct cleavage did not form blastocysts.
What is known already
There are many reports that embryos with direct cleavage in the early development have a lower blastocyst development rate because direct cleavage produces chromosomal abnormal cells. However, when such embryos develop into blastocysts, there have been some reports that the transfer pregnancy rate and euploid rate did not decrease, but the reasons for this have not been clarified.
Study design, size, duration
This is a retrospective study of 89 blastocysts obtained during 2013-18. These embryos were those that patients requested to be discarded and consented to be used in this study. All target embryos were time-lapse monitored by EmbryoScope (Vitrolife, Sweden), and several trophectoderms were biopsied and examined for euploidy.
Participants/materials, setting, methods
The target embryos were classified into three groups: embryos with normal first and second cleavage (NC group), embryos with irregular division (one cell dividing into three or more cells) called direct cleavage at the first cleavage (DC1 group), and embryos with direct cleavage of one blastomere at the second cleavage (DC2 group). It was recorded whether the blastomeres of the embryos subsequently developed into blastocysts or not. NGS analysis was performed on the embryos.
Main results and the role of chance
The target embryos were classified as 48 in the NC group, 32 in the DC1 group, and 9 in the DC2 group. Whether the blastomeres in the target embryos subsequently formed blastocysts or not was recorded one by one by time-lapse images, resulting in the blastomeres’ blastocyst formation rate was 95.1% in the NC group and 55.9% in the DC1 group, which was significantly lower in the DC1 group (P < 0.01). In the DC2 group, blastomeres formed by normal division and those by direct cleavage at the second cleavage were recorded separately, and the blastocyst formation rate was 90.8% for normal cleavage blastomeres and 46.0% for direct cleavage blastomeres, with significantly lower rates for direct cleavage blastomeres (P < 0.01). Therefore, about half of the blastomeres generated by direct cleavage at the first or second cleavage did not form blastocysts. The results of NGS analysis were as follows: NC group: 35.4% euploid, 45.8% aneuploid, and 18.8% mosaic; DC1 group: 37.5%, 53.1%, and 9.4%, respectively; and DC2 group: 55.6%, 33.3%, and 11.1%, respectively. There was no significant difference in any of the items, suggesting that direct cleavage does not affect the euploidy of blastocysts.
Limitations, reasons for caution
For the purpose of NGS analysis, all the target embryos in this study were blastocysts, but if all the cultured embryos were included, arrested embryos would be included, which would probably result in more blastomeres formed by direct cleavage not developing into blastocysts.
Wider implications of the findings
The blastomeres generated by direct cleavage were often excluded from blastocyst formation. This may be an exclusion of chromosomally abnormal cells and may be one of the reasons why direct cleavage decreases blastocyst development rate but does not decrease blastocyst euploid rate.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies have found that among patients testing positive for COVID-19 within a health care system, non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic patients are more likely than non-Hispanic White patients to be hospitalized. However, previous studies have looked at odds of being admitted using all positive tests in the system and not only those seeking care in the emergency department (ED). OBJECTIVE This study examined racial/ethnic differences in COVID-19 hospitalizations and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions among patients seeking care for COVID-19 in the ED. RESEARCH DESIGN Electronic health records (n=7549) were collected from COVID-19 confirmed patients that visited an ED of an urban health care system in the Chicago area between March 2020 and February 2021. RESULTS After adjusting for possible confounders, White patients had 2.2 times the odds of being admitted to the hospital and 1.5 times the odds of being admitted to the ICU than Black patients. There were no observed differences between White and Hispanic patients. CONCLUSIONS White patients were more likely than Black patients to be hospitalized after presenting to the ED with COVID-19 and more likely to be admitted directly to the ICU. This finding may be due to racial/ethnic differences in severity of disease upon ED presentation, racial and ethnic differences in access to COVID-19 primary care and/or implicit bias impacting clinical decision-making.

Abstract
The Rare-RI Ring (R3) is a recently commissioned cyclotronlike storage ring mass spectrometer dedicated to mass measurements of exotic nuclei far from stability at Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF) in RIKEN. The first application of mass measurement using the R3 mass spectrometer at RIBF is reported. Rare isotopes produced at RIBF-^{127}Sn, ^{126}In, ^{125}Cd, ^{124}Ag, ^{123}Pd-were injected in R3. Masses of ^{126}In, ^{125}Cd, and ^{123}Pd were measured whereby the mass uncertainty of ^{123}Pd was improved. This is the first reported measurement with a new storage ring mass spectrometry technique realized at a heavy-ion cyclotron and employing individual injection of the preidentified rare nuclei. The latter is essential for the future mass measurements of the rarest isotopes produced at RIBF. The impact of the new ^{123}Pd result on the solar r-process abundances in a neutron star merger event is investigated by performing reaction network calculations of 20 trajectories with varying electron fraction Y_{e}. It is found that the neutron capture cross section on ^{123}Pd increases by a factor of 2.2 and β-delayed neutron emission probability, P_{1 n}, of ^{123}Rh increases by 14%. The neutron capture cross section on ^{122}Pd decreases by a factor of 2.6 leading to pileup of material at A=122, thus reproducing the trend of the solar r-process abundances. The trend of the two-neutron separation energies (S_{2n}) was investigated for the Pd isotopic chain. The new mass measurement with improved uncertainty excludes large changes of the S_{2n} value at N=77. Such large increase of the S_{2n} values before N=82 was proposed as an alternative to the quenching of the N=82 shell gap to reproduce r-process abundances in the mass region of A=112-124.

Abstract
The current gold standard for detection of flu season onset in the USA is done retrospectively, where flu season is detected after it has already started. We aimed to create a new surveillance strategy capable of detecting flu season onset prior to its starting. We used an established data generation method that combines Google search volume and historical flu activity data to simulate real-time estimates of flu activity. We then applied a method known as change-point detection to the generated data to determine the point in time that identifies the initial uptick in flu activity which indicates the imminent onset of flu season. Our strategy exhibits a high level of accuracy in predicting the onset of flu season at 86%. Additionally, on average, we detected the onset three weeks prior to the official start of flu season. The results provide evidence to support both the feasibility and efficacy of our strategy to improve the current standard of flu surveillance. The improvement may provide valuable support and lead time for public health officials to take appropriate actions to prevent and control the spread of the flu.

Abstract
Enforced enrichment of the active promoter marks trimethylation of histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me3) and acetylation of histone H3 lysine 27 (H3K27ac) by inhibiting histone demethylases and deacetylases is positively associated with hard tissue formation through the induction of osteo/odontogenic differentiation. However, the key endogenous epigenetic modulator of odontoblasts to regulate the expression of genes coding dentin extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins has not been identified. We focused on nuclear factor (NF)-κB inhibitor ζ (IκBζ), which was originally identified as the transcriptional regulator of NF-κB and recently regarded as the NF-κB-independent epigenetic modulator, and found that IκBζ null mice exhibit a thicker dentin width and narrower pulp chamber, with aged mice having more marked phenotypes. At 6 mo of age, dentin fluorescent labeling revealed significantly accelerated dentin synthesis in the incisors of IκBζ null mice. In the molars of IκBζ null mice, marked tertiary dentin formation adjacent to the pulp horn was observed. Mechanistically, the expression of COL1A2 and COL1A1 collagen genes increased more in the odontoblast-rich fraction of IκBζ null mice than in wild type in vivo, similar to human odontoblast-like cells transfected with small interfering RNA for IκBζ compared with cells transfected with control siRNA in vitro. Furthermore, the direct binding of IκBζ to the COL1A2 promoter suppressed COL1A2 expression and the local active chromatin status marked by H3K4me3. Based on whole-genome identification of H3K4me3 enrichment, ECM and ECM organization-related gene loci were selectively activated by the knockdown of IκBζ, which consistently resulted in the upregulation of these genes. Collectively, this study suggested that IκBζ is the key negative regulator of dentin formation in odontoblasts by inhibiting dentin ECM- and ECM organization-related gene expression through an altered local chromatin status marked by H3K4me3. Therefore, IκBζ is a potential target for epigenetically improving the clinical outcomes of dentin regeneration therapies such as pulp capping.

Abstract
The differential cross sections of the Σ^{-}p→Λn reaction were measured accurately for the Σ^{-} momentum (p_{Σ}) ranging from 470 to 650 MeV/c at the J-PARC Hadron Experimental Facility. Precise angular information about the Σ^{-}p→Λn reaction was obtained for the first time by detecting approximately 100 reaction events at each angular step of Δcosθ=0.1. The obtained differential cross sections show a slightly forward-peaking structure in the measured momentum regions. The cross sections integrated for -0.7≤cosθ≤1.0 were obtained as 22.5±0.68 [statistical error(stat.)] ±0.65 [systematic error(syst.)] mb and 15.8±0.83(stat)±0.52(syst) mb for 470<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<550 and 550<p_{Σ}(MeV/c)<650, respectively. These results show a drastic improvement compared with past measurements of the hyperon-proton scattering experiments. They will play essential roles in updating the theoretical models of the baryon-baryon interactions.

Abstract
A new hyperon-proton scattering experiment, dubbed J-PARC E40, was performed to measure differential cross sections of the Σ+p, Σ−p elastic scatterings and the Σ−p → Λn scattering by identifying a lot of Σ particles in the momentum ranging from 0.4 to 0.8 GeV/c produced by the π±p → K+Σ± reactions. We successfully measured the differential cross sections of these three channels with a drastically improved accuracy with a fine angular step. These new data will become important experimental constraints to improve the theories of the two-body baryon-baryon interactions. Following this success, we proposed a new experiment to measure the differential cross sections and spin observables by using a highly polarized Λ beam for providing quantitative information on the ΛN interaction. The results of three Σp channels and future prospects of the Λp scattering experiment are described.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Prognostic impact of Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors on cardiovascular and renal outcome was unknown in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and severely impaired renal function.
Methods
From July 2015 to December 2020, patients with type-2 DM who were taken SGLT2 inhibitors for more than six months were retrospectively screened. Patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) over 60ml/min/1.73m2 were excluded. We divided those patients into two groups by eGFR; less than 45ml/min/1,73m2 were group A and 46–60ml/min/m2 were group B. Randomly selected patients with DM not taking SGLT2 inhibitors and having severe renal dysfunction: eGFR less than 45ml/min/m2 (Group C) were set as controls. The primary outcome was a composite of cardiovascular/renal death, initiation of dialysis, doubling of the serum creatine level, decline in the eGFR more than 30%, nonfatal myocardial infraction, nonfatal stroke, and hospitalization for heart failure.
Results
Totally 418 patients were enrolled. Median age was 71 years (group A, n=106), 64 years (group B, n=115), and 77 years (group C, n=201) (p<0.001). After median 24 months follow-up, primary endpoints were observed 24.5% in group A, 4.3% in group B, 36.8% in group C (p<0.001). In Kaplan-Meier analysis, significantly lower incidence of primary endpoints were observed in SGLT2 groups (group A and B) than controls (p<0.001, Figure 1). In patients with severe renal dysfunction, taking SGLT2 inhibitors tended to decrease future renal event (Figure 2). The incidence of SGLT2 related adverse events was not different between 2 groups (A and B).
Conclusions
Even in patients with severe renal dysfunction, SGLT2 inhibitors would have cardio-renal protective effects without drug-related adverse effects.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Detection of atrial fibrillation (AF) out of electrocardiograph (ECG) on sinus rhythm (SR) using artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm has been widely studied within recent couple of years. Generally, it is believed that a huge number of ECGs are necessary for developing an AI-enabled ECG to be adequate to correspond to a lot of minor variations of ECGs. For example, structural heart diseases have typical ECG characteristics, but they could be a noise for the purpose of detecting the small signs of electrocardiographic signature of AF. We hypothesized that when patients with structural heart diseases are excluded, AI-enabled ECG for identifying patients with AF can be developed with a small number of ECGs.
Methods
We developed an AI-enabled ECG using a convolutional neural network to detect the electrocardiographic signature of AF present during normal sinus rhythm (NSR) using a digital, standard 10-second, 12-lead ECGs. We included all patients who newly visited the Cardiovascular Institute with at least one NSR ECG between Feb 1, 2010, and March 31, 2018. We classified patients with at least one ECG with a rhythm of AF as positive for AF (AF label) and others as negative for AF (SR label). We allocated ECGs to the training, internal validation, and testing datasets in a 7:1:2 ratio. We calculated the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic curve for the internal validation dataset to select a probability threshold, which we applied to the testing dataset. We evaluated model performance on the testing dataset by calculating the AUC and the sensitivity, specificity, F1 score, and accuracy with two-sided 95% confidence intervals (CIs).
Results
We totally included 19170 patients with 12-lead ECG. After excluding patients with structural heart diseases, 12825 patients with NSR ECGs at the initial visit were identified (1262 were clinically diagnosed as AF anytime during the time course and 11563 were never diagnosed as AF). Of 11563 non-AF patients, 1818 patients who were followed over 1095 days were selected for the analysis with the SR label, to secure the robustness for maintaining SR. Of 1262 AF patients, 251 patients were selected for the analysis with the AF label, of whom a NSR ECG within 31 days before or after the index AF ECG (the first AF ECG during the time course) could be obtained. In the patients with AF label, the NSR ECG of which the date was the nearest to the index AF ECG was selected for the analysis. The AI-enabled ECG showed an AUC of 0.88 (0.84–0.92) with sensitivity 81% (72–88), specificity 80% (77–83), F1 score 50% (43–57), and overall accuracy 80% (78–83).
Conclusion
An AI-enabled ECG acquired during NSR allowed identification of patients with AF in a small population without structural heart diseases.

Abstract
We aimed to clarify whether various antipsychotics ameliorate cisplatin-induced pica behavior in mice using a drug repositioning approach. Mice were administered cisplatin (12.5 mg/kg, i.p.) with or without olanzapine (1 mg/kg, i.p.), asenapine (4 mg/kg, i.p.), mirtazapine (5 mg/kg, i.p.) or standard three-drug antiemetics (granisetron [0.5 mg/kg, i.p.], fosaprepitant [25 mg/kg, i.p.], and dexamethasone [3 mg/kg, i.p.]). Kaolin, food, and water intake, and spontaneous motor activity on the day before and seven consecutive days after the cisplatin administration were measured using a telemetry system. At the primary endpoint, kaolin intake was significantly higher at day three in the cisplatin group than in the pre-treatment and saline groups ( p < 0.05). Additionally, kaolin intake was not significantly higher in cisplatin with olanzapine, asenapine, and mirtazapine groups for seven days than in the pre-treatment group. At the secondary endpoint, cisplatin decreased the food and water intake, and spontaneous motor activity in a time-dependent manner. Three antipsychotics failed to improve the cisplatin-induced decrease in food and water intake, and spontaneous motor activity. The findings suggest that prophylactic administration of antipsychotics besides olanzapine may improve cisplatin-induced nausea and vomiting in a delayed phase and de-escalate standard 3-drug antiemetics.

P–131 Significance of the phenomenon of blastomere exclusion from compaction: Its relation to irregular cleavage, blastocyst development rate, and pregnancy rate. Hum Reprod 2021. Abstract
Abstract
Study question
When does blastomere exclusion from compaction increase and what effect does it have on the embryo?
Summary answer
More blastomere were excluded from compaction in embryos with irregular cleavage, resulting in lower blastocyst development rates, but no decrease in pregnancy rates at transfer.
What is known already
It has been reported that many of the chromosome analysis results of blastomere excluded from compaction were aneuploid, and pointed out that this exclusion may be related to the repair of blastocyst euploidy, but the effect of the number of excluded blastomere has not been reported.
Study design, size, duration
This is a retrospective study of 578 embryos that developed into morula with time-lapse monitoring by EmbryoScope (Vitrolife) in 2018–2019.
Participants/materials, setting, methods
The target embryos were classified into two groups: embryos with normal first and second cleavage (normal cleavage group) and embryos with irregular cleavage (dynamics of one cell dividing into three or more cells), called “direct cleavage”, at either cleavage (DC group), and the number of blastomere excluded from compaction during morula formation was recorded and compared. The blastocyst development rate and single blastocyst transfer pregnancy rates of the two groups were compared.
Main results and the role of chance
There are 286 in the normal cleavage group and 292 in the DC group. The mean number of excluded blastomere was 0.76 and 3.55, respectively, which was significantly higher in the DC group (P < 0.01). Good blastocyst (Gardner classification 4 or higher) development rate was 84.5% (239/283) and 65.8% (181/275), respectively, and high grade blastocyst (Gardner classification BB or higher) development rate was 43.9% (105/239) and 14.9% (27/181) of them, both significantly higher in the normal cleavage group (P < 0.01). The single blastocyst transfer pregnancy rates were 31.6% (25/79) and 32.4% (11/34), and the miscarriage rates were 24.0% (6/25) and 27.3% (3/11), respectively, neither was there a significant difference between the two groups. So, direct cleavage increased the number of blastomere excluded from compaction, decreased the rate of morula to good blastocyst development and reduced blastocyst grade, but did not affect blastocyst transfer pregnancy rate and miscarriage rate.
Limitations, reasons for caution
Please note that all target embryos must have developed into morula or larger (embryos that did not develop into morula will not be included in the study).
Wider implications of the findings: Severe chromosomal aberrant blastomeres formed by direct cleavage were excluded from compaction, and the blastocyst development rate decreased due to a decrease in the amount of viable cells, but it is suggested that this blastomere exclusion mechanism is not related to euploidy after blastocyst development.

Abstract
The number of women in podiatric medicine and surgery has increased steadily over the past 4 decades; however, there appears to be a large and continued gender gap with respect to representation in academic medicine and other positions of power. National and state level organizational data were obtained from multiple podiatry professional societies to evaluate the rate at which women achieved leadership roles within the podiatric profession over time. A secondary questionnaire was also developed and electronically mailed to 8684 doctors of podiatric medicine to help capture additional leadership information and to provide further insight into the trends observed. The response rate was 26% (2276/8684). Female representation in academia, research/publications, most leadership positions, and board certifications has increased over time, but at a slower rate than the number of women entering the profession. We observed a decreasing trend of females completing fellowships, speaking at national meetings, becoming residency directors, and receiving American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons- and American Podiatric Medical Association-sponsored grants/awards. Based on the survey results, female podiatric physicians were more likely to be single, have fewer children, spend more time in a clinical setting, be less satisfied with work, and experience higher work stress levels than their male colleagues. Of the female respondents, 73% described experiencing gender discrimination at some point in their career, and 42% reported experiencing sexual harassment, compared with only 6% and 5% of men, respectively. There continues to be a gender gap in leadership roles, which may be explained partially by work/life balance issues, gender discrimination, and other issues.

Change in sense of food safety associated with social connectedness and information sources-A 10-year longitudinal survey before and after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident. Public Health 2021; 194:156-162. Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study analyzes the change in the sense of food safety over time, from 2 years before to 8 years after the Fukushima accident in 2011, and its association with social connectedness using cohort data, taking into account regional differences in Fukushima Prefecture. STUDY DESIGN Repeated cross-sectional data from Fukushima Prefectural Government from 2009 to 2018 were used. METHODS We randomly selected 1300 people every fiscal year (FY). The survey gathered data on age, gender, occupation, residential region, and the explanatory variables 'sense of social connectedness' and 'recovery-related information source' (information source). The prefecture was divided into three regions for the survey-Hamadori region, where the nuclear power plant is located, Nakadori region, where the air dose rate after the earthquake was high, and in Aizu, far from the nuclear power station but has suffered from harmful rumors. RESULTS Focusing on FY 2014, when the sense of safety first showed recovery, we performed a binominal logistic regression analysis with 'sense of safety' as the outcome and 'sense of social connectedness' and 'information source' as the explanatory variables. The sense of safety significantly decreased in all regions in 2011 relative to earlier years. The sense of food safety decreased markedly in Hamadori and Nakadori but started to improve 3 years after the earthquake and reached the pre-earthquake level in 2018. The effect sizes were larger in the Hamadori region and in Nakadori than in Aizu. In FY 2014, multivariate analysis found that a sense of food safety was significantly positively associated with a sense of social connectedness, whereas the use of information from newspapers and TV and word of mouth was negatively associated. CONCLUSION Although the recovery of a sense of food safety may take some time, a focus on social connectedness during recovery and scrutiny of information sources may facilitate recovery. Health communication has an important role when the provider sends information intelligibly and the recipient can distinguish good news from bad and link it to self-determination. It is necessary to improve literacy.

Abstract
The first measurement of longitudinal decorrelations of harmonic flow amplitudes v_{n} for n=2-4 in Xe+Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.44 TeV is obtained using 3 μb^{-1} of data with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The decorrelation signal for v_{3} and v_{4} is found to be nearly independent of collision centrality and transverse momentum (p_{T}) requirements on final-state particles, but for v_{2} a strong centrality and p_{T} dependence is seen. When compared with the results from Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV, the longitudinal decorrelation signal in midcentral Xe+Xe collisions is found to be larger for v_{2}, but smaller for v_{3}. Current hydrodynamic models reproduce the ratios of the v_{n} measured in Xe+Xe collisions to those in Pb+Pb collisions but fail to describe the magnitudes and trends of the ratios of longitudinal flow decorrelations between Xe+Xe and Pb+Pb. The results on the system-size dependence provide new insights and an important lever arm to separate effects of the longitudinal structure of the initial state from other early and late time effects in heavy-ion collisions.

Search for Dark Matter Produced in Association with a Dark Higgs Boson Decaying into W^{±}W^{∓} or ZZ in Fully Hadronic Final States from sqrt[s]=13 TeV pp Collisions Recorded with the ATLAS Detector. Abstract
Several extensions of the Standard Model predict the production of dark matter particles at the LHC. An uncharted signature of dark matter particles produced in association with VV=W^{±}W^{∓} or ZZ pairs from a decay of a dark Higgs boson s is searched for using 139 fb^{-1} of pp collisions recorded by the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The s→V(qq[over ¯])V(qq[over ¯]) decays are reconstructed with a novel technique aimed at resolving the dense topology from boosted VV pairs using jets in the calorimeter and tracking information. Dark Higgs scenarios with m_{s}>160 GeV are excluded.

Study of the K_{L}→π^{0}νν[over ¯] Decay at the J-PARC KOTO Experiment. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 126:121801. Abstract
The rare decay K_{L}→π^{0}νν[over ¯] was studied with the dataset taken at the J-PARC KOTO experiment in 2016, 2017, and 2018. With a single event sensitivity of (7.20±0.05_{stat}±0.66_{syst})×10^{-10}, three candidate events were observed in the signal region. After unveiling them, contaminations from K^{±} and scattered K_{L} decays were studied, and the total number of background events was estimated to be 1.22±0.26. We conclude that the number of observed events is statistically consistent with the background expectation. For this dataset, we set an upper limit of 4.9×10^{-9} on the branching fraction of K_{L}→π^{0}νν[over ¯] at the 90% confidence level.

J Appl Microbiol 2021; 131:1998-2009. Abstract
AIMS This study aimed to evaluate the anti-adiposity effect of heat-killed Lactobacillus brevis KB290 originating from traditional Japanese fermented pickles in mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). METHODS AND RESULTS C57BL/6J mice were fed a normal-fat diet, HFD or HFD supplemented with heat-killed KB290 for 8 weeks. Epididymal and renal adipose tissue weights, as well as areas of epididymal adipocytes, were significantly lower in the mice fed a HFD supplemented with KB290 than in those fed an unsupplemented HFD. Mice whose diets were supplemented with KB290 had elevated adiponectin and β3-adrenergic receptor expression in epididymal adipose tissue and an accompanying higher serum free fatty acid level. Furthermore, the HFD-induced elevations in serum glucose, insulin and HOMA-IR were significantly suppressed by dietary supplementation with KB290. Amplicon sequencing of 16S rRNA genes revealed that KB290 ingestion altered the composition of the intestinal microbiota. CONCLUSIONS Heat-killed L. brevis KB290 suppressed diet-induced visceral fat accumulation and ameliorated diet-induced metabolic symptoms and intestinal gut microbiota modifications, suggesting possibility of novel paraprobiotic. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY Heat-killed L. brevis KB290 is useable as a material to develop functional foods that attenuate visceral fat accumulation.

Safety and feasibility of minimally invasive esophagectomy for elderly esophageal cancer patients. Dis Esophagus 2021; 34:5902470. [PMID: 32895704 DOI: 10.1093/dote/doaa083] [Citation(s) in RCA: 5] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.7] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Submit a Manuscript] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 04/20/2020] [Revised: 06/27/2020] [Accepted: 07/23/2020] [Indexed: 12/11/2022]
Abstract
The number of elderly patients with esophageal cancer has increased in recent years. The use of thoracoscopic esophagectomy has also increased, and its minimal invasiveness is believed to contribute to postoperative outcomes. However, the short- and long-term outcomes in elderly patients remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the safety and feasibility of minimally invasive esophagectomy in elderly patients. This retrospective study included 207 patients who underwent radical thoracoscopic esophagectomy for thoracic esophageal squamous cell carcinoma at Kobe University Hospital between 2005 and 2014. Patients were divided into non-elderly (<75 years) and elderly (≥75 years) groups. A propensity score matching analysis was performed for sex and clinical T and N stage, with a total of 29 matched pairs. General preoperative data, surgical procedures, intraoperative data, postoperative complications, in-hospital death, cancer-specific survival, and overall survival were compared between groups. The elderly group was characterized by lower preoperative serum albumin levels and higher American Society of Anesthesiologists grade. Intraoperative data and postoperative complications did not differ between the groups. The in-hospital death rate was 4% in the elderly group, which did not significantly differ from the non-elderly group. Cancer-specific survival was similar between the two groups. Although overall survival tended to be poor in the elderly group, it was not significantly worse than that of the non-elderly group. In conclusion, the short- and long-term outcomes of minimally invasive esophagectomy in elderly versus non-elderly patients were acceptable. Minimally invasive esophagectomy is a safe and feasible modality for elderly patients with appropriate indications.

Medium-Induced Modification of Z-Tagged Charged Particle Yields in Pb+Pb Collisions at 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS Detector. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2021; 126:072301. Abstract
The yield of charged particles opposite to a Z boson with large transverse momentum (p_{T}) is measured in 260 pb^{-1} of pp and 1.7 nb^{-1} of Pb+Pb collision data at 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The Z boson tag is used to select hard-scattered partons with specific kinematics, and to observe how their showers are modified as they propagate through the quark-gluon plasma created in Pb+Pb collisions. Compared with pp collisions, charged-particle yields in Pb+Pb collisions show significant modifications as a function of charged-particle p_{T} in a way that depends on event centrality and Z boson p_{T}. The data are compared with a variety of theoretical calculations and provide new information about the medium-induced energy loss of partons in a p_{T} regime difficult to measure through other channels.
