No pulsed radio emission during a bursting phase of a Galactic magnetar. Nature 2020; 587:63-65. Abstract
Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are millisecond-duration radio transients of unknown physical origin observed at extragalactic distances1-3. It has long been speculated that magnetars are the engine powering repeating bursts from FRB sources4-13, but no convincing evidence has been collected so far14. Recently, the Galactic magnetar SRG 1935+2154 entered an active phase by emitting intense soft γ-ray bursts15. One FRB-like event with two peaks (FRB 200428) and a luminosity slightly lower than the faintest extragalactic FRBs was detected from the source, in association with a soft γ-ray/hard-X-ray flare18-21. Here we report an eight-hour targeted radio observational campaign comprising four sessions and assisted by multi-wavelength (optical and hard-X-ray) data. During the third session, 29 soft-γ-ray repeater (SGR) bursts were detected in γ-ray energies. Throughout the observing period, we detected no single dispersed pulsed emission coincident with the arrivals of SGR bursts, but unfortunately we were not observing when the FRB was detected. The non-detection places a fluence upper limit that is eight orders of magnitude lower than the fluence of FRB 200428. Our results suggest that FRB-SGR burst associations are rare. FRBs may be highly relativistic and geometrically beamed, or FRB-like events associated with SGR bursts may have narrow spectra and characteristic frequencies outside the observed band. It is also possible that the physical conditions required to achieve coherent radiation in SGR bursts are difficult to satisfy, and that only under extreme conditions could an FRB be associated with an SGR burst.

Pivotal effects of external Fe 2+ on remediation of arsenite by zero-valent iron/persulfate: Efficiencies and mechanism. ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH 2020; 189:109922. [PMID: 32980011 DOI: 10.1016/j.envres.2020.109922] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 05/02/2020] [Revised: 06/28/2020] [Accepted: 07/05/2020] [Indexed: 06/11/2023]
Abstract
Persulfate could be activated by zero-valent iron (ZVI) leading to the rapid removal of various contaminants. However, quick consumption of Fe2+ largely constrained the removal (%) of target pollutants. Here it was reported that Na2S2O8 (SP) combined with ZVI, as an external source of Fe2+, was activated by Fe2+ to quickly (minutes scale) and efficiently (more than 90%) remove As (III) from aqueous solution at an initial pH value from 1.0 to 9.0. As (III) removal was obviously improved by an increase of Fe2+ rather than Na2S2O8 dosage. The removal of As (III) using Fe2+-SP-ZVI system followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic and pseudo-first-order kinetic expression. Fe2+ from ZVI oxidization could improve the efficient generation of , which obviously boosted ZVI corrosion. The production of could be manipulated by oxalic acid, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), citric acid and phosphates through controlling the concentration of dissociative Fe2+, leading to an obvious repression on As (III) removal. The fitting of X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectra illustrated that the interatomic distance of As-O shell was located between As(III)-O and As(V)-O shell and external Fe2+ could promote the oxidation of As (III) to As (V) from 35.6% in 1.0 min-44.5% in 10.0 min. Goethite as the main component of iron oxyhydroxides might play a significant role of As (III) adsorption in Fe2+-SP-ZVI system. These findings are crucial for knowing the fate and transport of arsenic under permeable reactive barriers.

Abstract
Soil microorganisms are considered to be important indicators of soil fertility and soil quality. Most previous studies have focused solely on surface soil, but there were numerous active cells in deeper soil layers. However, studies regarding microbial communities in deeper soil layers were not comprehensive and sufficient. In this study, phylogenetic molecular ecological networks (pMENs) based on the 16S rRNA Miseq sequencing technique were applied to study the response of soil microbial communities to depth gradients and the changes of key genera along 3 meter depth gradients (0–0.2 m, 0.2–0.4 m 0.4–0.6 m, 0.6–0.8 m, 0.8–1.0 m, 1.0–1.3 m, 1.3–1.6 m, 1.6–2.0 m, 2.0–2.5 m, and 2.5–3.0 m). The results showed that the modularity of microbial communities was consistently high in all soil layers and each layer was similar, which indicated that microbial communities were more resistant to depth changes. The pMENs further demonstrated that microbial community interactions were stable as the depth increased and they cooperated well to adapt to changes in different soil gradients. This was evidenced by similar positive links, average degree, and average clustering coefficient. In addition, key genera were obtained by analyzing module hubs in the pMENs. There may be at least one dominant genus in each layer that adapted to and resisted changes in the soil environment. It seems microbial communities demonstrate a stable and strong adaptability to depth gradients in farmland soils.

Mechanism-Property Correlation in Coordination Polymer Crystals toward Design of a Superior Sorbent. ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES 2019; 11:42375-42384. Abstract
A methodology was developed to design superior sorbents of oxoanions. To integrate the high efficiency of chemisorption, selectivity, and recyclability into one sorbent, understanding the nature of oxoanions-sorbent interactions and the structural evolution of the sorbents is essential. Three cationic Ag(I) coordination polymers (CPs) are synthesized for dichromate (Cr2O72-) removal, and three distinct oxoanion-exchange mechanisms are identified, namely, the replacement, breath, and reconstruction processes, depending on the degree of framework distortion induced by the dichromate-CP interactions. The single crystal to single crystal transformation during the oxoanion exchange has been investigated by using single-crystal X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray microanalysis. The replacement process, due to a weak chemisorption, shows excellent recyclability at the cost of reduction of efficiency and selectivity of adsorption. The reconstruction process may achieve a high efficiency and selectivity, but it loses recyclability. Due to the formation of a Ag-O(dichromate) bond and the breathing effect of the framework, the sorbent with the breath mechanism shows both superior efficiency and high recyclability in dichromate removal. The study of perrhenate (ReO4-) removal using the same CPs demonstrates that one CP performing the reconstruction process during dichromate removal turns to the breath process in removal of perrhenate anions. These results of mechanism-property correlation provide an insight into improvement of the methodology to fabricate a superior CP sorbent for oxoanion removal.

Abstract
This study concerned the sediment issue of the Yellow River basin. The responses of hydrological and sedimental processes to future climate change in two upland watersheds with different dominant landscapes were estimated. Four Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) scenarios with different radiative forcing levels were considered. The outputs of eleven Global Climate Models (GCMs) were used to represent the future climate status of the 2050s and 2070s, and an ensemble means was achieved to avoid uncertainty. The Long Ashton Research Station Weather Generator (LARS-WG) was employed to downscale the outputs of GCMs for future site-scale daily weather data estimations. The Generalized Watershed Loading Functions (GWLF) model was employed to model the streamflow and sediment yields under various scenarios and periods. The results showed that there would be generally hotter and wetter weather conditions in the future. Increased erosion and sediment yields could be found in the study area, with lesser increments in sediment in woodland than in cultivated field. The peak of sediment would appear in the 2050s, and integrated measures for sediment control should be implemented to reduce erosion and block delivery. The multi-model approach proposed in this study had reliable performance and could be applied in other similar areas with modest data conditions.

Abstract
Core samples may be used as valuable geochronometers for storing historical pollution footprints of organic pollutants. A number of studies have used core samples to evaluate temporal depositions, loading inventories, and effectiveness of environmental mitigation measures. However, in order to get a reliable estimation, certain prerequisites must be satisfied to rule out various confounding factors such as biomixing and melting. This review aims to understand when core samples can or cannot be used as natural archives for organic pollutants. First, we systematically review existing studies of organic pollutants in soil, sediment and ice cores and possible factors that may influence post-depositional fate of chemicals. Then, building on field evidence, model simulation and laboratory leaching tests findings, we discuss issues of post-depositional downward movement in detail. To assist future core sample studies, we summarize lessons learned on study design in the context of sampling design, data analysis, and data reporting. In particular, the combination of a careful study design and appropriate numerical model(s) will help to elevate core samples as a more reliable tool for retrospective understanding of chemical pollution. This review is an initial step toward a better and more accurate use of core samples, and further interdisciplinary cooperation is needed to develop standardized protocols, guidelines and tools.

Abstract
RATIONALE Osteochondral flap fractures of the elbow are rare in children. To the best of our knowledge, only 12 cases are reported in the literature. Only 1 case was accompanied with lateral condyle fracture classified as Milch I, which was nondisplaced. The mechanism of these injuries is not explained in detail, and the treatment methods are not discussed. Here, we present 3 cases of osteochondral flap fracture of the ulnar coronoid process with accompanying obvious displacement of the lateral condyle fracture. PATIENT CONCERNS All patients fell into one of their outstretched arms, which caused elbow pain and functional limitation. DIAGNOSIS All 3 patients were diagnosed with lateral condyle fracture of the humerus and osteochondral flap fracture of the ulnar coronoid process. INTERVENTIONS All patients underwent open reduction and internal fixation. OUTCOMES At 3 months after the operation, they regained full range of motion of the limb and had no elbow instability. LESSONS Osteochondral flap fracture should be considered when there is a bone mass in the elbow space with accompanying displacement of the humeral lateral condyle fracture.

Abstract
To compare the efficacy of curettage and bone grafting combined with elastic intramedullary nailing (EIN) vs curettage and bone grafting in the treatment of long bone cysts in children and to clarify the necessity of using EIN in the treatment of bone cysts.Sixty-two patients were involved in this study from Jan. 2009 to Sept. 2017 (43 males, 19 females; 27 humeri, 35 femurs); the patients were assigned to an EIN group, comprising 30 patients who underwent curettage and bone grafting combined with EIN, or to a non-elastic intramedullary nailing (NEIN) group, comprising 32 patients who underwent curettage and bone grafting alone. The prognosis of the 2 groups was assessed with reference to the standard of Capanna. No statistically significant differences in sex, age, location, activity, pathological fracture, cyst volume, operative time and intraoperative blood loss were found between the 2 groups (P > .05). The effective rate was 90.0% in the EIN group and 68.8% in the NEIN group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < .05).Compared to simple curettage and bone grafting, curettage and bone grafting combined with EIN treatment can significantly improve the prognosis of children with bone cysts. It is recommended that EIN be added to bone cyst curettage and bone grafting.

Abstract
Epigenetic mutations caused by pollutants are possibly linked to many diseases. Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) is one of the most representative air pollutants and has aroused wide concern because of its strong carcinogenicity. The reproductive toxicity induced by BaP has been identified, but little is known about the characteristics of the methylation changes induced by BaP. In this study, a methylated DNA immunoprecipitation sequencing method was used to detect the methylation of sperm DNA of rats exposed to BaP. Compared with the respective genes in normal rats, there were 3227 hypomethylated genes and 828 hypermethylated genes after BaP exposure. Gene ontology enrichment analysis reported that differentially methylated genes (DMGs) were enriched in the localization, single-multicellular organism process and plasma membrane. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway analysis showed that the DMGs were significantly enriched in the Ras signalling pathway, Rap1 signalling pathway, pancreatic secretion and neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction. DisGeNET disease spectrum analysis showed that DMGs were associated with infertility and certain genetic diseases. Further research needs to be done to explore whether these abnormal methylation are transgenerational.

Abstract
The standardized precipitation index (SPI) and the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) based on two different methods were calculated using monthly meteorological data from the Yangtze River Basin. According to the completeness and length of dataset, the monthly data of 35 meteorological stations from 1959 to 2017 were applied in this study. The results revealed that the SPEI calculated by the Penman-Monteith (PM) method performed better than the SPI and the SPEI based on the Thornthwaite (TH) method. Since SPEI_PM considered more meteorological factors and detailed physical processes, it obtained the most reasonable and accurate results of drought trends. Using the variations of SPEI_PM to analyze the decadal changes of drought characteristics in the basin, it could be found that 1980-1989 and 1990-1999 were the most humid periods in the basin, while the drought events became more frequent and severe in the recent decade. The spatial distributions of drought trend, duration and frequency indicated that the stations located in the midstream of the river were most prone to drought events, followed by the upper reaches. Our results provided more information for the regions where severe droughts occurred frequently and last longer, and more attention should be paid to these regions in future catchment management.

Adsorption of phenanthrene and 1-naphthol to graphene oxide and L-ascorbic-acid-reduced graphene oxide: effects of pH and surfactants. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND POLLUTION RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL 2019; 26:11062-11073. Abstract
In this study, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) was synthesized by L-ascorbic acid reduction, which was a relatively mild and environmental friendly reduction method, and the adsorption of organic contaminants was compared to graphene oxide (GO) to probe the potential adsorption mechanisms. The morphology properties of GO and RGO were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared transmission (FTIR), Raman spectrometer, transmission electron microscope (TEM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The adsorption affinities of GO and RGO for phenanthrene and 1-naphthol were studied in batch experiments. The effects of pH and surfactants were also assessed. The results demonstrated that RGO reduced by L-ascorbic acid show significantly greater adsorption affinity for both phenanthrene and 1-naphthol than GO, and even greater than most of RGOs that reduced by the strong reductive reagents. This was mainly attributed to the hydrophobic interaction, π-π interaction, and H-bonding between graphene sheets and organic contaminants. Both GO and RGO showed stronger adsorption to phenanthrene than to 1-naphthol. The adsorption of 1-naphthol increased with decreasing pH and reached a maximum around pH = 7.34. The surfactants, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfaonate (SDBS) and cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), had negligible influence on adsorption to GO. Note that CTAB significantly inhibited the adsorption of phenanthrene/1-naphthol on RGO, which could be attributed to the pore blockage effect. In addition, RGO could be regenerated and reused with high recyclability over five cycles. The present study suggests that RGO obtained via L-ascorbic acid reduction can be deemed as a promising material for organic contaminated wastewater treatment.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze labor progression characteristics among nulliparas and provide reference to labor progress management. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 1 089 women who went for vaginal delivery at the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yet-San University from January 1st, 2015 to May 31th, 2016. The duration of cervical dilation from 1.0 cm to the next and the process of initial cervical dilation (2.0 cm or 3.0 cm) to full cervical dilation of nulliparas were analyzed. Results: The cervical dilation speed was accelerating with the progress of labor. The rate of cervical dilation changed fastest between 5.0-6.0 cm dilation, which was more than 3.0 cm/hour. With regard to labor curves, at admission of 2.0 cm cervical dilation, it rose dramatically from 5.0 cm dilation. At admission of 3.0 cm dilation, it presented approximately linear rising before 5.5 cm dilation, then became steeper. Conclusions: The cervical dilation speed is fast. Both labor curves of initial cervical dilation (2.0 cm or 3.0 cm) to full cervical dilation show obvious acceleration stage with steep slope.

We investigated the concentrations of 10 heavy metals in Potamogeton malaianus, Nymphoides peltata, Eichhornia crassipes, and Hydrilla verticillata to evaluate their potential to bioaccumulate heavy metals and related influencing factors in Taihu Lake. Enrichment factor (EF) values of Cu, Cr, Mn, Ni, Zn, Co, Pb, and V were above 2.0, indicating moderate to significant contamination in sediment. Most of Ti, V, Cr, Mn, and Ni in P. malaianus, E. crassipes, and H. verticillata and V in N. peltata were within excess/toxic level in plants, but higher than normal level. Even though no aquatic plants in this study were identified as a hyperaccumulator, relatively higher concentrations in aquatic plants were found in Taihu Lake than have been found in other previous studies. Heavy metal in submerged plants, especially in their stems, seemed to be more closely related to metals in water and sediment than those in floating-leaf plants. Ratios of metals in stem versus leaves in all plants ranged from 0.2 to 25.8, indicating various accumulation capabilities of plant organs. These findings contribute to the application of submerged aquatic plants to heavy metal removal from moderately contaminated lakes.

Abstract
The concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has been proposed to improve the pathologic complete response (pCR) rate, although there are conflicting views about its efficacy and safety. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and cardiac safety of the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive locally advanced breast cancer. We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases from inception until July 1, 2017, for relevant articles. A total of 13 studies were included in the meta-analysis. The results showed that the pCR rate was significantly higher in the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline group (45%) than that in the nonconcurrent use group (32%) (OR: 2.36, 95% CI: 1.69–3.30, P<0.0001). Besides, the pooled absolute rate of breast conservation surgery (BCS) was 48% (95% CI: 0.35–0.61) and 38% (95% CI: 0.14–0.62) in the experimental and control groups, respectively (OR: 1.10, 95% CI: 0.64–1.90, P=0.73). No significant differences were found in the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), which decreased by >10% (OR: 1.26, 95% CI: 0.55–2.88, P=0.59), and in terms of cardiac failure (OR: 2.17, 95% CI: 0.24–19.84, P=0.49), when comparing the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracyclines with their nonconcurrent use. In conclusion, the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC for certain HER2-positive locally advanced breast cancers significantly improves the pCR rates without obvious increases in the cardiotoxicity.

Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the effect of the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for HER2-positive breast cancer in terms of pCR and cardiotoxicity. Methods: We systematically searched Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane and SinoMed databases from inception until 1 July 2017 for relevant articles of randomized controlled studies. After identified all relevant studies that reported the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC for HER2-positive locally advanced breast cancer, five eligible randomized studies were extracted relevant data and assessed for design and quality, and the meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the risk ratio (RR) of pCR and other interesting outcomes, such as left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) decrease more than 10%, responses, recurrence free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS). Results: A total of five randomized controlled studies were included in the meta-analysis, including 232 HER2-positive locally advanced breast cancer patients received the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC. The results showed that the pCR rate was significantly higher in the group received the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC (48%) than that in the non-concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC group (26%) (RR: 1.76, 95%CI: 1.37-2.26, p<0.0001). Besides, higher rate of RFS (RR: 1.14, 95%CI: 1.03-1.26, p=0.009) was observed in the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC group. No significant differences in LVEF decreased more than 10% (p=0.50) between both groups. Conclusions: Our meta-analysis of randomized controlled studies showed that pCR rates are significantly higher in the concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC compared with the non-concurrent use of trastuzumab and anthracycline-based NAC for certain HER2-positive breast cancer, meanwhile without significant increase of the cardiotoxicity.

Abstract
As a representative index of the algal bloom, the concentration of chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) is a key parameter of concern for environmental managers. The relationships between environmental variables and Chl-a are complex and difficult to establish. Two machine learning methods, including support vector machine for regression (SVR) and random forest (RF), were used in this study to predict Chl-a concentration based on multiple variables. To improve the model accuracy and reduce the input number, two feature selection methods, including minimum redundancy and maximum relevance method (mRMR) and RF, were integrated with regression models. The results showed that the RF model had a higher predictive ability than the SVR model. Furthermore, the less computational time cost and unnecessary prior data transformation also indicated a better applicability of the RF model. The comparison between ensemble models of mRMR-RF and RF-RF showed that the RF-RF yielded a better performance with fewer variables. Seven variables selected from the candidate predictors could interpret most information, and their potential implications to Chl-a were discussed based on the level of importance. Overall, the RF-RF ensemble model can be considered as a useful approach to determine the significant stressors and achieve satisfactory prediction of Chl-a concentration.

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the visual outcomes of patients with visual impairment after resecting skull base tumor via an endoscopic endonasal approach, and to analyze the factors affecting visual recovery. Methods: One hundred and fifty-three patients with skull base tumor who suffered from preoperative visual impairment from Skull Base Surgery Center of Xuanwu Hospital were operated through an endoscopic endonasal approach. Both preoperative and postoperative visual function outcomes as well as factors that might have affected their visual recovery were analyzed retrospectively by Chi square test and Logistic regression analysis. Results: Complete resection was achieved in 85.6% of the patients using this technique. The rate of postoperative visual recovery in the female group (86.1%) was higher than that in the male group (73.9%), the benign group (90.2%) higher than the malignant group (20.0%), the group without optic atrophy (97.1%) higher than the one with (51.2%), and the acute group (96.6%) higher than the chronic group (80.0%). Significant differences were found between the abovementioned groups (χ(2) value was 5.849, 87.860, 79.757, 4.745, respectively, all P<0.05). The degree of optic atrophy and the property of tumors were significantly associated with visual improvement after treatment (Wold χ(2) value was 18.597 and 35.623, all P<0.001). Conclusions: Our results indicate that endoscopic endonasal surgery shows its ability both to resect skull base tumors and to improve visual function in the majority of patients. The timing of treatment for patients suffered from preoperative visual impairment should be selected in early stage before optic atrophy occurs.

Commentary on "A novel treatment strategy for newly diagnosed high-grade T1 bladder cancer: Gemcitabine and cisplatin adjuvant chemotherapy-A single-institution experience.". Urol Oncol 2018; 36:346-347. Abstract
BACKGROUND Management of high-grade T1 (formerly T1G3) bladder cancer continues to be controversial. Should patients with T1G3 bladder cancer have an immediate radical cystectomy or should they receive intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin preserving bladder? Gemcitabine and cisplatin (GC) adjuvant chemotherapy may help to strike a balance between intravesical and early cystectomy. For purposes of this study, we continue to refer high-grade T1 lesion as "T1G3." OBJECTIVE To evaluate the characteristics and the long-term outcome of GC adjuvant chemotherapy in T1G3 bladder cancer after transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT). MATERIALS AND METHODS We, retrospectively, reviewed 48 patients who were newly diagnosed with T1G3 bladder cancer between January 2009 and December 2012. A total of 48 patients received 4 cycles of GC adjuvant chemotherapy after TURBT. One month after 4 cycles of GC adjuvant chemotherapy, response was evaluated by re-TURBT. Median follow-up was 59.5 (range: 18-70) months, all patients have been observed for more than 3 years. Salvage cystectomy was recommended for patients with persistent disease and for tumor progression after initial complete response. RESULT Complete response was achieved in 44 (91.7%) patients. Of complete responders, 5 patients experienced recurrence and 5 patients showed progression. The progression rate and disease-specific survival rate were 10.4% and 91.7% at 3 years, respectively. More than 80% of survivors preserved their bladder. Kaplan-Meier curves showed that concomitant carcinoma in situ (CIS) was the only factor that had an influence on progression-free survival (P = 0.022) and disease-specific survival (P = 0.017). Concomitant CIS was the prognostic factor for progression rate and disease-specific survival rate at 3 years (P = 0.008 and P = 0.035). CONCLUSION GC adjuvant chemotherapy is a safe conservative treatment for T1G3 bladder cancer, but effective is really a phase II study. Patients with T1G3 bladder cancer with concomitant CIS should be treated more aggressively because of the high risk of progression.

Long-term effects of nitrogen fertilization on aggregation and localization of carbon, nitrogen and microbial activities in soil. THE SCIENCE OF THE TOTAL ENVIRONMENT 2018; 624:1131-1139. Abstract
Long-term nitrogen (N) fertilization affects soil aggregation and localizations of soil organic carbon (SOC), N and microbial parameters within aggregates. The mechanisms of these N effects are poorly understood. We studied these processes in a loamy soil from a 23-year repeated N addition field experiment under a rice-barley rotation. Nitrogen fertilization increased plant productivity and the portion of large macroaggregates (>2mm). However, SOC contents in macro- and micro-aggregates remained constant despite an N-induced increase of 27% in root C input into soil. Therefore, N fertilization accelerated SOC turnover. Nitrogen addition increased total N (TN) content in bulk soil and two macroaggregates (>2, and 1-2mm), but not in microaggregates (<0.25mm). Also, N fertilization increased the phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) contents of fungi in the large macroaggregates, but not in the microaggregates. In contrast, the effect of N addition on contents of bacterial and total microbial PLFAs was not apparent. Nitrogen fertilization increased N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) activities in the two larger macroaggregate size classes (>2, and 1-2mm), but not in the aggregates (<1mm). In both control and N fertilization, the large macroaggregates localized more TN, microbial PLFAs, and NAG activities than the microaggregates. In conclusion, long-term N fertilization not only directly promotes soil N resource but also indirectly improves soil structure by forming large macroaggregates, accelerates SOC turnover, and shiftes localization of microorganisms to the macroaggregates.

Highly sensitive flexible three-axis tactile sensors based on the interface contact resistance of microstructured graphene. NANOSCALE 2018; 10:7387-7395. Abstract
The lack of high-performance tactile sensors, especially for pressure/force, is a huge obstacle for the widespread application of intelligent robots. Current pressure sensors are often operated in the high range of pressure and normal direction, showing a little ability in the low range of pressure and three-axis direction simultaneously. Herein, a highly sensitive flexible tactile sensor with three-axis force sensing capacity is presented by combining microstructured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) arrays and a reduced graphene oxide (rGO) film. The deformation of microstructured rGO/PDMS results in a change in the contact area between the rGO film and electrode, leading to a high sensitivity of -1.71 kPa-1 in the low range pressure of 0-225 Pa with a fast response time of 6 ms at a large feature size of 100 μm. To realize three-axis sensing, a sensing unit was built up, which was composed of the adjacent four parts of patterns and electrodes underneath a bump. A mechanical model of the exerted spatial force was established to calculate each axis force component via the deformation of the rGO/PDMS pattern. The experimental results show that the current difference between the adjacent two parts has a strong relationship with the applied force. As a proof of concept, we have demonstrated a 3 × 3 array sensor for arbitrary force sensing. Our tactile sensor would be used in transmitting information from a gentle spatial force and would exhibit broad applications as e-skin in integrated robots.

Abstract
A multipoint gas sensing scheme based on photoacoustic spectroscopy was proposed. Multiple photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) gas cells (resonant frequency f0=5.0 kHz) were connected in series for the multipoint gas sensing with wavelength modulation technique. The PAS signal was excited by modulating the tunable distributed feedback laser diode wavelength at f0/2 using a changing driving current. The gas concentration of each gas cell was obtained by the PAS signal, which was demodulated by the lock-in amplifier. A multipoint PAS experiment to detect the water vapor at 1368.597 nm was implemented to verify the scheme we presented. With the three PAS gas cells, the linear response to the water vapor concentration of our sensors achieved 0.9978, 0.99591, and 0.99617, and their minimum detection limits were 479, 662, and 630 ppb, respectively.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the heart rate control situation of chronic heart failure (CHF) patients who received cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) therapy, and to assess the heart rate control efficacy by optimized medication adjustment. Methods: We performed a perspective study in heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (HFrEF) patients who received CIED according to guideline recommendations, patients were enrolled from January 2012 to January 2017. Resting heart rate (RHR) recorded by electrocardiogram after 10 minutes' rest and medication usage within 1 month were recorded at baseline. RHR less than 70 beats per minute (bpm) was regarded as well controlled. β-receptor blockers and (or) ivabradine would be added in patients whose RHR were over 70 bpm. RHR after optimized medication adjustment was recorded during follow-up period. Results: One hundred and fifty patients were included in this study with average RHR (80.6±11.9) bpm. RHR was<70 bpm in 27.3% (41/150) patients at baseline and β-receptor blockers was underused in 80.7% patients (88/109) whose RHR was>70 bpm. The overall RHR decreased to (73.1±10.4) bpm and percent of patients with RHR<70 bpm increased to 70.0% (105/150) after up-titration of β-receptor blockers compared to baseline (χ2=52.958, P<0.001). Ivabradine was added in the rest 45 patients and RHR was<70 bpm in 43 out of 45 patients after ivabradine use. The overall RHR decreased to (67.1±2.7) bpm and percent of RHR<70 bpm significantly increased to 98.7% (148/150) (χ2=44.504, P<0.001 vs. up-titration of β-receptor blockers only). Conclusion: RHR in CHF patients who received CIED therapy is not ideally controlled in this patient cohort, individual up-titration ofβ-receptor blockers and ivabradine use may help to optimize RHR in these patients.

Abstract
Cancer development and progression is linked to tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). Distinct TAMs subsets perform either protective or pathogenic effects in cancer. A protective role in carcinogenesis has been described for M1 macrophages, which activate antitumor mechanisms. By comparison, TAMs isolated from solid and metastatic tumors have a suppressive M2-like phenotype, which could support multiple aspects of tumor progression. Currently, it has not been clearly understood how macrophages in tumor-associated stroma could be hijacked to support tumor growth. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) actively interact with components of the innate immune system and display both anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory effects. Here, we tested whether MSCs could favor the tumor to escape from immunologic surveillance in the presence of M1 macrophages. We found that MSCs educated by M1 condition medium (cMSCs) possessed a greatly enhanced ability in promoting tumor growth in vivo. Examination of cytokines/chemokines showed that the cMSCs acquired a regulatory profile, which expressed high levels of iNOS and MCP1. Consistent with an elevated MCP1 expression in cMSCs, the tumor-promoting effect of the cMSCs depended on MCP1 mediated macrophage recruitment to tumor sites. Furthermore, IL-6 secreted by the cMSCs could polarize infiltrated TAMs into M2-like macrophages. Therefore, when macrophages changed into M1 pro-inflammation type in tumor microenvironment, the MSCs would act as poor sensors and switchers to accelerate tumor growth.

Abstract
The core part of the popular tracking-by-detection trackers is the discriminative classifier, which distinguishes the tracked target from the surrounding environment. Correlation filter-based visual tracking methods have the advantage of computing efficiency over the traditional methods by exploiting the properties of circulant matrix in learning process, and the significant progress in efficiency has been achieved by making use of the fast Fourier transform at detection and learning stages. But most existing correlation filter-based approaches are mainly restricted to translation estimation, which are susceptible to drifting in long-term tracking. In this article, a compressed multiple feature and adaptive scale estimation method is presented, which uses multiple features, including histogram of orientation gradients, color-naming, and raw pixel value to further improve the stability and accuracy of translation estimation. And for the scale estimation, another correlation filter is trained, which uses the compressed histogram of orientation gradients and raw pixel value to construct a multiscale pyramid of the target, and the optimal scale is obtained by exhaustively searching. The translation and scale estimation are unified with an iterative searching strategy. Extensively experimental results on the benchmark data set of scale variation show that the performance of the proposed compressed multiple feature and adaptive scale estimation algorithm is competitive against state-of-the-art methods with scale estimation capabilities in terms of robustness and accuracy.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the features of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of patients with high-voltage electrical burns in limbs at early stage. Methods: Thirty-eight patients with high-voltage electrical burns, conforming to the study criteria, were hospitalized in our unit from March 2013 to August 2016. T(1) weighted imaging (T(1)WI), T(2)WI, fat-suppression T(2)WI plain scan, and fat-suppression T(1)WI enhanced scan of MRI were performed in 78 limbs, including 56 upper limbs and 22 lower limbs at post injury hour 72. The MRI signal characteristics of electrical burns in skin and subcutaneous tissue, skeletal muscle, tendon, joint ligament, and skeleton of limbs were analyzed. " Sandwich-like" necrosis and injury in skeletal muscle, injuries of tendon, joint ligament, and skeleton were observed. MRI signal characteristics of amputated upper limbs and salvaged limbs were also analyzed. All patients underwent surgery within 24 h after MRI examination, and the muscle vitality was judged during operation. Muscle tissue without reaction to electrical stimulation which was completely necrotic as shown by MRI, muscle tissue with weak reaction to electrical stimulation which was injured with blood supply as shown by MRI, and muscle tissue with edema as shown by MRI were collected, and then the pathological characteristics of muscle tissue were observed with HE staining. Results: (1) The defect area of patients at entrance of current was bigger than that at exit. The skin and subcutaneous tissue extensively unevenly thickened. T(2)WI manifested hyperintensity, and T(1)WI manifested isointensity, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested uneven enhancement. Zonal effusion was seen in the region of serious subcutaneous edema. (2) For complete necrosis of skeletal muscle, T(2)WI manifested hypointense, isointensity, or slight hyperintensity, and T(1)WI manifested isointensity, slight hyperintensity, or mixed signal of isointensity and slight hyperintensity, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested most no enhancement area with clear boundary. The MRI signals of injured skeletal muscle could be divided into two types. Type Ⅰ signal was for partial necrotic muscle adjacent to the completely necrotic zone. T(2)WI manifested uneven hyperintensity or slight hyperintensity, with unclear boundary. T(1)WI manifested isointensity or slight hyperintensity. Fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested significant banding or laciness enhancement. Type Ⅱ signal was for deep muscle tissue far from the complete necrotic zone. T(2)WI manifested hyperintensity, and T(1)WI manifested isointensity or main isointensity mixed with hyperintensity, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested uneven moderate or slight enhancement. Normal muscle signal, type Ⅰ signal, and type Ⅱ signal were all mixed with necrotic signal, showing " sandwich-like" change. For skeletal muscle edema, T(2)WI manifested slight hyperintensity and unclear boundary, and T(1)WI manifested hypointense, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested no obvious enhancement. (3) For complete necrosis of tendon, T(2)WI manifested isointensity or slight hyperintensity, and T(1)WI manifested isointensity, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested no enhancement. For tendon injury, T(2)WI manifested isointensity, and T(1)WI manifested isointensity or hypointense, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested slight enhancement. (4) Severe injury of wrist joint were manifested as complete necrosis of soft tissue around joint. T(2)WI manifested slight hyperintensity or isointensity, and T(1)WI manifested isointensity, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested no enhancement or slightly uneven enhancement. For completely destroyed wrist joints, the structures were not clear from outside to inside. T(2)WI manifested slight hyperintensity or isointensity, and T(1)WI manifested hypointense or isointensity, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested no enhancement. For elbow injury, T(2)WI manifested hyperintensity, and T(1)WI manifested isointensity or hypointense, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested uneven enhancement. For knee injury, T(2)WI manifested hyperintensity, and T(1)WI manifested hypointense, while fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested slight enhancement. (5) For bone edema, T(2)WI manifested isointensity, while fat-suppression T(2)WI manifested slight hyperintensity. T(1)WI manifested isointensity, and fat-suppression enhanced T(1)WI manifested patchy enhancement. (6) MRI of amputated upper limbs showed necrosis signals, type Ⅰ signals, type Ⅱ signals, and mixed signals of type Ⅰ and type Ⅱ in skeletal muscle. The necrosis signal and type Ⅰ signal area of the distal end were more than 50% greater than those of the lesion. The scope of the ecological tissue was large and the boundary was not clear. There were diffuse injuries in both anterior and posterior muscles, and the ulnar and radial artery pulsation disappeared in the upper limbs. The MRI of salvaged limbs were type Ⅰ signal, type Ⅱ signal, mixed signals of type Ⅰ and type Ⅱ, and local necrosis signals of skeletal muscle. The type Ⅰ signal was the main type, and the distal end showed type Ⅱ signal. (7) For completely necrotic skeletal muscle as shown by MRI, surgical exploration showed loss of muscle viability, and pathological examination showed complete necrosis of striated muscle tissue. For injury area of skeletal muscle as shown by MRI, surgical exploration showed interecological muscle with activity worse than mormal muscle, and pathological examination showed normal muscle cells and muscle fiber mixed with necrotic striated muscle cells having karyopyknosis, with different degree of injury. For edema area of skeletal muscle as shown by MRI, surgical exploration showed swelling skeletal muscle and normal muscle vitality, and pathological examination showed striated muscle interstitial edema with a large number of inflammatory cells infiltration. The manifestions of MRI were consistent with the results of surgical exploration and pathological examination. Conclusions: Skeletal muscle complete necrosis, injury, and edema could be preferably differentiated by MRI, and the definite scope and depth of electrical injury, the injury of skin, tendon, joint ligament, and bone could also be displayed well on MRI. It can provide objective imaging basis for the diagnosis of high-voltage electrical burns in limbs at early stage, the establishment of clinical operation plan, and the judgment of intraoperative tissue vitality.

Abstract
Recently, discriminative correlation filter-based method becomes one of the popular directions in the field of visual tracking because of its computational efficiency and excellent performance, which make it especially suitable for real-time application. Most of them are focused only on the transition estimation. However, accurate scale estimation of the target plays a very important role in long-term tracking task and is still a challenging problem. The principle of CF-based visual tracking is introduced first. The approaches of adaptive scale estimation in correlation filter-based visual tracking methods are summarized in this paper, and their performances are analyzed by experiment comparison. The works here can provide a better understanding on the scale estimation problem for correlation filter-based visual tracking. Furthermore, maybe with the same strategy, other factors in visual tracking, such as appearance variation, can be integrated into the framework to improve the performance of correlation filter-based method.

MAPK pathway regulated the cardiomyocyte apoptosis in mice with post-infarction heart failure. ACTA ACUST UNITED AC 2017; 118:339-346. [PMID: 28664743 DOI: 10.4149/bll_2017_065] [Citation(s) in RCA: 7] [Impact Index Per Article: 1.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [MESH Headings] [Track Full Text] [Journal Information] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Indexed: 11/08/2022]
Abstract
BACKGROUND To explore the role of the MAPK signaling pathway in the cardiomyocyte apoptosis of mice with post-infarction heart failure (HF). METHODS Mice were divided into sham and myocardial infarction (MI) groups. Before surgery, the MI group was divided into SB203580 and PBS subgroups. A post-infarction HF model was established by ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery. Ventricular dilatation and cardiac function were observed by small animal echocardiography. The growth of primary cardiomyocytes was observed under an inverted phase contrast microscope. The mRNA and protein expressions of endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) markers, GRP78 and CHOP, were detected by qRT-PCR and immunofluorescence assay, respectively. RESULTS The MI group had enlarged left ventricle and decreased cardiac function. GRP78 and CHOP protein expressions in myocardial tissues, especially those of SB203580 subgroup, significantly increased (p < 0.05). The expressions of p-JNK and cleaved caspase 12 proteins, especially those of SB203580 subgroup, were significantly up-regulated. Cardiomyocytes of MI group were significantly more prone to apoptosis (p < 0.05), with SB203580 subgroup being more obvious. CONCLUSION MI was accompanied by ERS, probably involving the MAPK signaling pathway. SB203580, a specific inhibitor of this pathway, can relieve cardiomyocyte apoptosis and protect the myocardium by suppressing such stress (Tab. 3, Fig. 7, Ref. 20).

Abstract
Arsenic is one of the most toxic substances yet discovered and arsenic contamination of water has become a global environmental problem in need of a solution. This study has identified the capacity of sodium persulfate (PS), activated by zero-valent iron (ZVI) to remove As(Ⅴ) from waste-water is much greater than the capacity of PS alone due to the production of sulfate radicals in the process. Five parameter types including PS and ZVI dosage, reaction temperature, initial pH value, and initial As(Ⅴ) concentration are discussed in detail. These parameters affect the removal rate dynamics as an influencing factor of the As(Ⅴ) concentration. The material structure before and after the reaction was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was demonstrated that under this solution of 20-100 mg·L-1 of As(Ⅴ), the removal rate of As(Ⅴ) is more than 98% and a pseudo-second order kinetic model can be used to describe the reaction. The removal mechanism of ZVI/PS to As(Ⅴ) was explored by comparing the results of X-ray photo-electron spectroscopy of samples taken before and after reaction with ZVI/PS. PS can accelerate the corrosion of ZVI and then promote the adsorption of As(Ⅴ), moreover, it can also form precipitates and coprecipitates with iron oxide/hydroxide to achieve an enhanced removal of As(Ⅴ).

Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of residual feed intake (RFI) on rumen function in finishing lambs. A total of 60 male Hu lambs (average initial BW = 25.2 ± 2.5kg) were used and were offered a pelleted high-concentrate diet, of which the forage to concentrate ratio was 25:75. Individual feed intake was recorded over a period of 42 d, then 10 lambs with the lowest RFI and the highest RFI were selected, respectively. The rumen fluid used for fermentation variables and relative abundance of bacteria measurement was obtained on d 10 and 20 after RFI measurement. At the end of this experiment, the selected lambs were slaughtered and rumen epithelium and liver tissues were collected for RNA extraction. Low-RFI lambs had lower ( < 0.01) DMI and greater ( < 0.05) G:F than the high-RFI ones, while the RFI groups did not differ in ADG and BW ( > 0.05). Additionally, RFI was positively ( = 0.57; < 0.01) correlated with DMI and negatively ( = -0.53; < 0.05) correlated with G:F. Total VFA and individual VFA decreased ( < 0.05) over time. The concentrations of total VFA, acetate, valerate, isobutyrate, isovalerate, and rumen pH ( > 0.05) were not affected by RFI classification. Nonetheless, low-RFI group lambs had a greater ( < 0.05) concentration of propionate, a lower ( < 0.05) concentration of butyrate, and a lower ( < 0.05) acetate to propionate ratio compared with the high-RFI group. There was a significant ( < 0.05) effect of RFI on the relative abundance of and . The relative abundance of , , and decreased ( < 0.05) over time in high-RFI group. And the relative abundance of in high-RFI group was greater ( < 0.05) than its low-RFI counterpart. Furthermore, RFI had no effect ( > 0.05) on gene expression associated with intracellular pH regulation (, , , , , , , and ) in rumen epithelium and β-hydroxybutyrate metabolism () in both rumen epithelium and liver tissues. In conclusion, even though low-RFI lambs had lower DMI, however, the number of was lower. Additionally, there was no difference in gene expressions level associated with intracellular pH regulation in rumen epithelium between RFI groups.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the morbidity, diagnostic profile and perinatal outcome of pregestational diabetes mellitus (PGDM) in 15 hospitals in Guangdong province. Methods: A total of 41 338 women delivered in the 15 hospitals during the 6 months, 195 women with PGDM (PGDM group) and 195 women with normal glucose test result (control group) were recruited from these tertiary hospitals in Guangdong province from January 2016 to June 2016. The morbidity and diagnostic profile of PGDM were analyzed. The complications during pregnancy and perinatal outcomes were compared between the two groups. In the PGDM group, pregnancy outcomes were analyzed in women who used insulin treatment (n=91) and women who did not (n=104). Results: (1) The incidence of PGDM was 0.472%(195/41 338). Diabetes mellitus were diagnosed in 59 women (30.3%, 59/195) before pregnancy, and 136 women (69.7%,136/195) were diagnosed as PGDM after conceptions. Forty-six women (33.8%) were diagnosed by fasting glucose and glycohemoglobin (HbA1c) screening. (2) The maternal age, pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) , prenatal BMI, percentage of family history of diabetes, incidence of macrosomia, concentration of low density lipoprotein were significantly higher in PGDM group than those in control group (all P<0.05). Women in PGDM group had significantly higher HbA1c concentration ((6.3±1.3)% vs (5.2±0.4)%) , fasting glucose [(6.3±2.3) vs (4.8±1.1) mmol/L], oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) -1 h glucose ((12.6±2.9) vs (7.1±1.3) mmol/L) and OGTT-2 h glucose [(12.0±3.0) vs (6.4±1.0) mmol/L] than those in control group (P<0.01). (3) The morbidity of preterm births was significantly higher (11.3% vs 1.0%, P<0.01), and the gestational age at delivery in PGDM group was significantly smaller [(37.6±2.3) vs (39.2±1.2) weeks, P<0.01]. Cesarean delivery rate in the PGDM group (70.8% vs 29.7%) was significantly higher than the control group (P<0.01). There was significantly difference between PGDM group and control in the neonatal male/female ratio (98/97 vs 111/84, P=0.033). The neonatal birth weight in PGDM group was significantly higher ((3 159±700) vs (3 451±423) g, P<0.01) . And the incidence of neonatal hypoglycemia in the PGDM group was higher than the control group (7.7% vs 2.6%, P=0.036). (4) In the PGDM group, women who were treated with insulin had a smaller gestational age at delivery [(36.9±2.9) vs (37.9±2.5) weeks, P<0.01], and the neonates had a higher neonatal ICU (NICU) admission rate (24.2% vs 9.6%, P<0.01). Conclusions: The morbidity of PGDM in the 15 hospitals in Guangdong province is 0.472%. The majority of PGDM was diagnosed during pregnancy; HbA1c and fasting glucose are reliable parameters for PGDM screening. Women with PGDM have obvious family history of diabetes and repeated pregnancy may accelerate the process of diabetes mellitus. Women with PGDM have higher risk for preterm delivery and neonatal hypoglycemia. Unsatisfied glucose control followed by insulin treatment may increase the need for NICU admission.

Abstract
In this work, a CE method was developed to separate five anthraquinones: aloe-emodin, rhein, emodin, chrysophanol, and physcion. The CE method used a nano-sized metal organic framework MIL-101 (nMIL-101) as pseudostationary phase (PSP) and sorbent for dispersed particle extraction (DPE). The nMIL-101 was synthesized by microwave technique and was characterized by UV-vis, TEM, Zeta potential, X-ray diffraction spectrometry and micropore physisorption. In this method, anthraquinones were adsorbed by nMIL-101 of a fast kinetics within 10 min and then separated by CE. The CE conditions were optimized considering time, pH, buffer ionic strength, and nanoparticles concentration. The optimal CE condition is using 20 mM sodium borate buffer (pH 9.1) containing 15% methanol (v/v) and 400 mg/L nMIL-101 as additives within 8 min. The LODs varied from 24 to 57 μg/L, which were lower than those previously reported. Our method has been successfully applied to determine trace anthraquinones in environmental water samples.

Abstract
Objective: Using optical coherence tomography (OCT) to analyze the morphological characteristics of lesions between early in-stent restenosis (E-ISR) and very late in-stent restenosis (VL-ISR) after drug-eluting stents (DES) implantation. Methods: In 25 patients (DES) with ISR, OCT images were acquired before percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), the morphological characteristics of E-ISR (<1 years, n=14) and VL-ISR (>3 years, n=11) were compared. The quantitative and qualitative analysis of the entire stent and the minimum lumen area (MLA) site were carried out respectively. OCT quantitative restenotic tissue analysis included the assessment of mean lumen area, mean stent area, mean neointimal area and mean neointimal burden.OCT qualitative restenotic tissue analysis included the assessment of tissue structure [homogeneous or heterogeneous intima (lipid-rich neoitima, thin-cap fibroatheroma (TCFA)-like intima)], presence of microvessels, intraluminal material (red thrombus, pale thrombus), disrupted intima with cavity and tissue prolapse and was performed at every 1-mm slice of the entire stent. Results: Compared with the E-ISR group, the proportion of cross-sections with heterogeneous intima in the entire stent was significantly higher in the VL-ISR group (60.57% vs 32.93%, P=0.005), and both peristent and intraintimal microvessels were more frequently observed in the VL-ISR group (P<0.05). In addition, lipid-rich neointima (72.7% vs 21.4%, P=0.017), TCFA-like intima (54.5% vs 7.1%, P=0.021), disrupted intima with visible cavity (63.6% vs 7.1%, P=0.007) and red thrombus (63.6% vs 7.1%, P=0.007) were observed more frequently in the VL-ISR group compared with E-ISR group for the entire stent. The heterogeneous intima was observed more frequently in the VL-ISR group (90.9% vs 35.7%, P=0.012) at the MLA sites.Intraintimal microvessels and disrupted intima with visible cavity were observed only in the VL-ISR group. Conclusions: OCT imaging indicates that the morphological characteristics of restenosis lesions in VL-ISR are different from those in E-ISR.The atherosclerotic changes of neointima, such as lipid-rich neointima, disrupted intima with cavity and microvessels are more often observed in VL-ISR lesions after DES implantation compared with E-ISR.Progression of the atherosclerosis within neointima after DES implantation may be associated with VL-ISR.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study the effect of G protein-coupled receptor kinase 6(GRK6) on proliferation and apoptosis of multiple myeloma(MM) cells and its mechanisms. METHODS The samples were collected from MM patients and healthy people for study in vivo. The plasma cells isolated from multiple myeloma patients, as well as U266 and NCI H929 myeloma cell lines were used for study in vitro. Western blot and quantitative real-time PCR were used to evaluate the protein and mRNA of expression of GRK6 in multiple myeloma, cell proliferation and apoptosis were tested by BrdU and Annexin V-FITC/PI assays. RESULTS The protein and mRNA expression of GRK6 in multiple myeloma was higher than those in control group, and the expression level of GRK6 in stage I of MM was higher than that in control group, while the expression level of GRK6 in stage II was higher than that in stage I, but lower than that in stage III (P<0.05). U266 and MM cells showed high-sensitivity to CX-4945, except NCI H929. GRK6 expression level in U266, NCI H929 and MM cells treated with siRNA and CX-4945, significantly decreased as compared with those cells treated by CX-4945 alone. Cell proliferations of U266, NCI H92 and MM groups treated with CX-4945 were (58.25±18.24)%, (64.32±20.03)% and (45.42±25.01)% respectively, moreover, their apoptotic rates were (62.82±53.21)%, (43.25±47.05)% and (85.67±40.32)% respectively. CONCLUSION The expression level of GRK6 in multiple myeloma increases, and GRK6 inhibitor CX-4945 inhibits proliferation and promotes apoptosis of myeloma cells; GRK6 regulates Rac1 and involves in the proliferation and apoptosis pathway of multiple myeloma cells.

Effect of total peony glucoside pretreatment on NF-κB and ICAM-1 expression in myocardial tissue of rat with myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. GENETICS AND MOLECULAR RESEARCH 2016; 15:gmr-15-gmr15048978. Abstract
Early recovery of myocardial perfusion is beneficial for myocardial ischemia. However, ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) may exacerbate myocardial injury. Research shows that total peony glucoside (TPG) can inhibit ischemic myocardial cell apoptosis. However, whether it can ameliorate I/R injury remains poorly understood. This study explored the effect of TPG pretreatment on I/R, through nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) expressions in I/R-affected myocardium. Healthy 7-week-old male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly categorized into sham operation (A), modeling (B), and 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg TPG pretreatment groups (C, D, and E, respectively), with 20 rats in each group. I/R rat models were designed by ligating left anterior descending coronary artery for 30 min to induce ischemia and for 120 min to induce reperfusion. Serum interleukin 6 (IL-6) and interleukin 8 (IL-8) levels were measured using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. NF-κB and ICAM-1 mRNA and protein expressions were detected through RT-PCR and western blot analysis, respectively. Compared to group A, serum IL-6 and IL-8 levels of group B elevated significantly (P < 0.05), whereas NF-κB and ICAM-1 mRNA and protein expressions increased in the myocardium (P < 0.05). Serum IL-6 and IL-8 levels, and NF-κB and ICAM-1 mRNA and protein expressions, in myocardium of TPG groups reduced in a dose-dependent manner. Therefore, TPG pretreatment could alleviate myocardium reperfusion injury in I/R rat models by reducing NF-κB and ICAM-1 mRNA and protein expressions and cytokine secretions. This mechanism could be associated with the inhibition of NF-κB activation and downregulation of ICAM-1 expression.

Abstract
Objective To observe the prevention of Fangshuan Capsule (FC) on percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) induced myocardial damage and vascular endothelial injury in patients with un- stable angina pectoris (UAP). Methods Totally 100 UAP patients undergoing PCI were assigned to the control group and the treatment group by random digit table, 50 in each group. All patients received routine Western medicine therapy. Those in the treatment group additionally took FC, 6 pills each time, three times per day for at least 2 days before PCI operation. The therapeutic course for each group was 2 weeks. The clinical therapeutic effect was observed in the two groups. Heart rate (HR), systolic blood pressure (SBP) , changes of myocardial oxygen consumption ( HR x SBP, kPa/min) were compared. The levels of serum troponin I (cTn 1), creatinine kinase-MB (CK-MB) , myoglobin (MYO) , endothelin (ET), and nitric oxide (NO) were measured before PCI, and 6, 12, 24 h, 3 and 7 days after PCI. Results The markedly effective rate of Chinese medical syndromes was 54% (17/50) and the total effective rate was 94% (47/50) in the treatment group, obviously higher than those of the control group [26% (13/50) and 88% (44/50) ; P <0. 01]. Compared with before treatment in the same group, HR, SBP, myocardial oxygen consumption, and plasma ET level were reduced, plasma NO level was elevated in two groups after treatment (P <0.05, P <0. 01). cTnl concentration increased at 6, 12, 24 h, and day 3 (P <0. 05, P <0. 01 ) ; CK-MB concentration was elevated at 6, 12, and 24 h (P <0. 05, P <0. 01) ; MYO concentration increased at 6 and 12 h (P < 0. 01) in the control group after treatment. cTnl concentration increased at 12 and 24 h (P <0. 05, P <0. 01); CK-MB concentration was elevated at 6 and 12 h (P <0. 05) ; MYO concentration increased at 6 h (P <0. 01) in the treatment group after treatment. Compared with the control group at the same time point, HR, myocardial oxygen consumption, and plasma ET level decreased (P <0. 05); cTnl decreased at 6, 12, and 24 h (P <0. 05); CK-MB concentration decreased at 12 h (P <0. 05); MYO concentration decreased at 6 and 12 h (P <0. 05) in the treatment group after treatment. Conclusion FC could effectively improve scores of Chinese medical syndromes after PCI surgery, reduce myocardial oxygen consumption, attenuate myocar- dial damage and vascular endothelial injury in UAP patients after PCI.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate microstructure and ultrastructure alterations in the pallium of immature mice exposed to cadmium. Forty immature mice were randomly divided into control, 1/100 LD50 (1.87 mg/kg, low), 1/50 LD50 (3.74 mg/kg, medium), and 1/25 LD50 (7.48 mg/kg, high) dose groups. After oral cadmium exposure for 40 days, the pallium of mice was obtained for microstructure and ultrastructure studies. The results showed that both microstructure and ultrastructure alterations of the pallium were observed in all treated mice and the most obvious alterations were in the high dose group. Microstructural analysis showed seriously congested capillary in the pia mater of the pallium in the high cadmium group. Meanwhile, vacuolar degenerate or karyopyknosis presented in some neurocytes, capillary quantity, and the number of apoptotic cells increased, some neurocytes became hypertrophy, the pia mater separated from the cortex, and local hemorrhage and accompanied inflammatory cell infiltration were also observed. Ultrastructural analysis showed that rough endoplasmic reticulum was expanded, heterochromatin marginalized, perinuclear space distinctly broadened, swelling and vacuolization mitochondria appeared, synapse was swelling, presynaptic and postsynaptic membranes presented fusion, and most of mitochondrial cristae were ambiguous. The results indicated that cadmium exposure for 40 days induced dose-dependent microstructure and ultrastructure alterations in pallium of immature mice.
