Abstract
In a research for new antimicrobial agents effective in therapy a new series of sulphonamidoquinoline derivatives have been studied. Their molecules, have got the feature of both 1-alkyl-1,4-dihydro-4-oxopyridine-3-carboxylic acid and sulphonamides. The structure of such compounds has been confirmed by chemical and physico-chemical methods and their antimicrobial activity has been tested.

Abstract
The structure-antileukemic activity (L1210) relationships for sulfonanilide ring-substituted variants of 4'-(acridin-9-ylamino)methanesulfonanilides have been investigated. Electron-donor substituents are necessary for antileukemic activity and it is suggested that high electron density at the 6' position is associated with high activity. A 3'-OCH3 function markedly increases (2-8-fold) potency with a variety of acceptable acridine ring substituents. Further variants with hydrophobic acridine 3-substituents have been shown to be more active than expected on the basis of overall molecular hydrophilic-lipophilic balance. There is a size limit to 3-substituents which may acceptably be as large as an iodine atom but should be smaller than an isoporpyl function.

Abstract
Condensations of carbon disulfide were carried out with amino, chloro, and diamino heterocycles to give condensed ring thiazoline-2-thiones and imidazoline-2-thiones, with cyanomethyl heterocycles to give dithio acid derivatives, and with heterocyclic sulfonamides to give sulfonyldithiocarbamates. Of several examples tested, pyrido[3,2-d]thiazoline-2-thione, disodium 2-(5-chloro-2-thienyl)-3,3-dimercaptoacrylonitrile, triethylammonium 4-sulfamoylphenyldithiocarbamate, ammonium beta-phenethyldithiocarbamate, and methyl N-(thiophene-2-sulfonyl)dithiocarbamate, only the last-named compound showed any radiation protection for mice. Several compounds gave negative tests for antimalarial activity.

Abstract
With the purpose of obtaining salts of sulfonamides with low toxicity but prolonged action, embonates of seven known sulfonamides, with antimalarila activity, were prepared by double exchange reaction between embonic acid and the antimalarial agents. Six of the seven embonates prepared showed activity against Plasmodium berghei in experimentally infected mice, one of them being significantly more active than the original sulfonamide (sulfadimethoxine).

Abstract
The synthesis of some new derivatives of 1-[4-nitrophenyl]-5-[4-substituted sulphonamidophenylhydrazono]-2-pyrazolin-4-ones and 3,5-dimethyl-4-[4-substituted sulphonamidophenylazo]-pyrazoles is described. Bromination of ethyl 2-[nitrophenylhydrazono]-3-oxobutyrates in dry benzene afforded the 4-bromo derivatives which upon cyclization gave high yields of the 4-hydroxpyrazoles. Many other new intermediates were prepared and the results of the UV and IR spectral studies are discussed.

Abstract
A series of isosteres of 3-benzoyltrifluoromethanesulfonanilide involving alternatives to the carbonyl linking group was synthesized and screened for antiinflammatory activity in the carrageenan rat paw edema test. The systems examined were of the type m-CF3SO2NH-C6H4-X-C6H5, where X was -CROH-, -CHR-, -CH(OH)CH2-, -COCH2-, -CH2CO-, greater than C equal to CR2, -CR equal to CH, -C identical to C-, -CH2CH2-, CONH-, -NR-, -O-, -S(O)n- (n equal to 0,1,2), and carbon-carbon single bond. Many ortho and para derivatives were also tested. Several of these new trifluoromethanesulfonanilides proved equipotent with phenylbutazone. The effects on the anticarrageenan activity of both the nature and ring position of X are discussed.

Abstract
The sensitivity of the fluorescence energy of 2-p-toluidinylnaphthalene-6-sulfonate (TNS) to apparent solvent polarity is considerably greater in methanol-water mixtures and lower primary alcohols than in higher primary alcohols or solvents containing no hydroxyl groups. It is suggested that the behavior of TNS in lower alcohols and their mixtures with water is an anomalous result of the combination of general polarity influences and chanes in the nature of specific interactions of the probe with hydroxyl groups of such solvents. Upon conversion of the sulfonate group of TNS to sulfonamido, the biphasic behavior observed in alcohols is eliminated, and fluorescent probes are obtained which have more nearly equal sensitivites to polarity in the alcohols and nonhydroxyl solvents. The sulfonamido fluorescent probes are more sensitive to general environmental polarity than TNS, and are superior as probes of environmental polarity.

Abstract
A series of iodo derivatives of 2-aminobenzensulfonamide and its derivatives has been prepared by reaction with iodine chloride in N,N-dimethylformamide or N,N-dimethylacetamide. The structure of each compound was confirmed by transformation with formic acid into the corresponding 1,2,4-benzothiadiazine and comparison with the same compounds prepared via the Sandmeyer reaction starting form amino derivatives of known structure. It was found that the iodination reaction in N,N-dimethylformamide, can lead, depending on the nature of the starting material, to the formation of benzothiadiazine derivatives apparently generated from sulfonamide via a formylation reaction due to N,N-dimethylformamide.
