Abstract
Background Biological variation of serum indoxyl sulfate (IS), p‐cresol sulfate (pCS), and trimethylamine‐n‐oxide (TMAO) concentrations in cats is unknown. Objectives To determine short‐ and medium‐term biological variation, index of individuality (II), and reference change values for serum IS, pCS, and TMAO concentrations in healthy adult cats. To determine the effect of feeding on serum concentrations. Animals Twelve healthy adult cats. Methods Prospective, cohort study. Seven serum samples over a 12‐hour period (short‐term) and 5 serum samples over a 19‐day period (medium‐term) were collected. Serum concentrations of total IS, pCS, and TMAO were measured every 2 hours in a 12‐hour period (hours 0‐12) after a meal in 9 cats and compared to concentrations in a nonfed state. Results For IS, the II was high using short‐term (1.96) and low using medium‐term (0.65) biological variation estimates. Individuality was intermediate for pCS (short‐term, 0.98; medium‐term, 1.17) and TMAO (short‐term, 1.47; medium‐term, 0.83). Serum IS, pCS, and TMAO concentrations were significantly lower in a fed state compared to a nonfed state at hours 4, 6, 8, and 12; at hours 4 and 6; and at hours 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, respectively. Conclusion and Clinical Importance Population‐based reference intervals with reference to the subject‐based interval can be used to monitor serum pCS and TMAO concentrations. For IS, a subject‐based and a population‐based reference interval is best for short‐term and medium‐term monitoring, respectively. To compare serial measurements, it would be prudent to collect samples at the same time of day and consistently in either a fed or nonfed state.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effect of cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) on postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in elderly patients undergoing cardiac anesthesia. Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed on 113 elderly patients (age 65-89) underwent cardiac surgery in Peking University International Hospital from June 2017 to December 2019, 67 male and 46 female patients were included. All operations were performed under general anesthesia, cardiopulmonary bypass, rSO2 and other relevant monitoring. Statistical analysis of the elderly patients with complications, cardiac surgery history, time of CPB, baseline value of rSO2 (rSO2 baseline), lowest intraoperative value of rSO2 (rSO2 min), time of operation, length of stay in CCU, length of hospital stay; Preoperative and postoperative NSE values; number of postoperative POCD and postoperative deaths were recorded. All data were obtained from the medical records system and anesthesia information system of Peking University International Hospital and risk factors related to POCD were analyzed by Logistic regression. Results: POCD occurred in 19 patients (16.8%), and also, intraoperative rSO2 decreased by more than 30% over the baseline. The variance of rSO2 (rSO2 baseline-rSO2 min) in POCD group and non-POCD group was (18.0±2.7) and (6.6±2.3), the variance of NSE (NSE after surgery-NSE before surgery) was (31.3±9.7) and (9.5±3.0) μg/L, respectively. The differences were statistically significant (t=18.35, 17.70, all P<0.05). rSO2 variability was positively correlated with NSE variability (r=0.697, P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that the variation degree of rSO2 [OR(95%CI)was 0.374(0.059-1.895)]、 patients combined with diabetes mellitus [OR(95%CI)was 0.493 (0.041-1.812), history of stroke [OR(95%CI)was 0.325 (0.084-0.917)] and atrial fibrillation [OR(95%CI)was 0.176 (0.091-0.943)] were the risk factors for POCD. Conclusion: POCD can be predicted by monitoring the decline range of rSO2 intraoperatively. rSO2 is recommended as a routine monitoring item for elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To characterize fatty acid (FA) profile of commercially available albumin products and determine their effect on embryonic development. DESIGN Research study. SETTING Private research facility. ANIMAL(S) Outbred mice aged 4-8 weeks. INTERVENTION(S) Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to quantify the FA content of 15 commercial albumins. Embryos were produced in media containing different albumin products, with or without carnitine or exogenous FA supplementation, to determine their effect on embryo development in vitro. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S) Total micrograms of FA per milligram of albumin for the 15 albumin products, blastocyst development, cell number, allocation to the trophectoderm (TE) or inner cell mass (ICM), and evaluation of morphology during implantation. RESULT(S) The albumin products contained 0.07-16.77 μg total FA/mg albumin. Compared to media with with >1.4 μg FA/mg albumin, media with <0.5 μg FA/mg albumin supported improved blastocyst development, and addition of carnitine mitigated this difference. Addition of palmitoleic acid or oleic acid individually did not improve blastocyst development and decreased ICM:TE ratio. However, in the presence of carnitine, there was improved blastocyst development and maintenance of the ICM:TE ratio. Embryos cultured in Vitrolife human serum albumin with supplementation of carnitine, palmitoleic acid, and oleic acid were more likely to develop cells positive for POU5F1 in an extended embryo culture than embryos cultured in Origio serum protein substitute. CONCLUSION(S) Commercial albumin products contain FAs, which vary in abundance. These FAs have different effects on embryo development and quality before and during the implantation stage. Several of these albumin preparations are routinely used for human-assisted reproductive technologies; therefore, serious consideration is warranted when selecting a product for clinical use.

Abstract
Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the primary vegetable crop consumed worldwide and is largely affected by bacterial pathogens that can cause soft rot and blackleg disease. Recently, resistance to these diseases has been identified in the wild potato S. chacoense, and the mechanism of resistance is unknown. Here, it was hypothesized that S. chacoense stems or tubers have unique chemistry that confers resistance to the pathogen Pectobacterium brasiliense through bactericidal, bacteriostatic, or antivirulence activity. Stem and tuber metabolite extracts were collected from S. chacoense and tested for effects on Pectobacterium bacterial multiplication rates, and activity and expression of known exoenzymes and virulence genes using S. tuberosum extracts as a comparative control. Comparatively, the S. chacoense extracts did not affect bacterial multiplication rate; however, they did reduce pectinase, cellulase, and protease activities. The chemical extracts were profiled using a bioassay-guided fractionation, and a nontargeted metabolomics comparison of S. chacoense and S. tuberosum stems and tubers was performed. The data showed that selected alkaloids, phenolic amines, phenols, amines, and peptides are integrative chemical sources of resistance against the bacteria.[Formula: see text] Copyright © 2021 The Author(s). Abstract
BACKGROUND Assuring adequate antibiotic tissue concentrations at the point of infection, especially in skin and soft tissue infections, is pivotal for an effective treatment and cure. Despite the global issue, a reliable AB monitoring test is missing. Inadequate antibiotic treatment leads to the development of antimicrobial resistances and toxic side effects. β-lactam antibiotics were already detected in sweat of patients treated with the respective antibiotics intravenously before. With the emergence of smartphone-based biosensors to analyse sweat on the spot of need, next-generation molecular digital biomarkers will be increasingly available for a non-invasive pharmacotherapy monitoring. OBJECTIVE Here, we investigated if the glycopeptide antibiotic vancomycin is detectable in sweat samples of in-patients treated with intravenous vancomycin. METHODS Eccrine sweat samples were collected using the Macroduct Sweat Collector®. Along every sweat sample, a blood sample was taken. Bio-fluid analysis was performed by Ultra-high Pressure Liquid Chromatograph-Tandem Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry coupled with tandem mass spectrometry. RESULTS A total of 5 patients were included. Results demonstrate that vancomycin was detected in 5 out of 5 sweat samples. Specifically, vancomycin concentrations ranged from 0.011 to 0.118 mg/L in sweat and from 4.7 to 8.5 mg/L in blood. CONCLUSION Our results serve as proof-of-concept that vancomycin is detectable in eccrine sweat and may serve as a surrogate marker for antibiotic tissue penetration. A targeted vancomycin treatment is crucial in patients with repetitive need for antibiotics and a variable antibiotic distribution such as in peripheral artery disease to optimize treatment effectiveness. If combined with on-skin smartphone-based biosensors and smartphone applications, the detection of antibiotic concentrations in sweat might enable a first digital, on-spot, lab-independent and non-invasive therapeutic drug monitoring in skin and soft tissue infections.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate risk factors for hyperkalemia among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients and establish a risk assessment model for predicting hyperkalemia events. Methods: Clinical data of CKD patients (stage 3 to 5) hospitalized between May 2017 and June 2020 from 14 hospitals were retrospectively collected and divided into training dataset and validation dataset through balanced random sampling. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to analyze risk factors for hyperkalemia in CKD patients and the factors were scored. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted and the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated. Meanwhile, the cut-off value with the best sensitivity and specificity were used to verify the accuracy of the model in validation dataset. Results: A total of 847 CKD patients were enrolled and further divided into training dataset (n=675) and validation dataset (n=172). There were 555 males and 292 females, with a mean age of (57.2±15.6) years. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, CKD stage, history of heart failure, history of serum potassium ≥5.0 mmol/L, diabetes, metabolic acidosis, and use of medications that increase serum potassium levels were risk factors for causing hyperkalemia in patients with CKD. Risk assessment model was established based on these risk factors. The AUC of the ROC curve was 0.809. Using 4 as the cut-off value, the sensitivity and specificity for predicting hyperkalemia events reached 87.1% and 57.0%, respectively. Conclusion: The model established in the current study can be used for predicting hyperkalemia events in clinical practices, which offers a new way to optimize serum potassium management in patients with CKD.

Abstract
TanSat is the 1st Chinese carbon dioxide (CO2) measurement satellite, launched in 2016. In this study, the University of Leicester Full Physics (UoL-FP) algorithm is implemented for TanSat nadir mode XCO2 retrievals. We develop a spectrum correction method to reduce the retrieval errors by the online fitting of an 8th order Fourier series. The spectrum-correction model and its a priori parameters are developed by analyzing the solar calibration measurement. This correction provides a significant improvement to the O2 A band retrieval. Accordingly, we extend the previous TanSat single CO2 weak band retrieval to a combined O2 A and CO2 weak band retrieval. A Genetic Algorithm (GA) has been applied to determine the threshold values of post-screening filters. In total, 18.3% of the retrieved data is identified as high quality compared to the original measurements. The same quality control parameters have been used in a footprint independent multiple linear regression bias correction due to the strong correlation with the XCO2 retrieval error. Twenty sites of the Total Column Carbon Observing Network (TCCON) have been selected to validate our new approach for the TanSat XCO2 retrieval. We show that our new approach produces a significant improvement on the XCO2 retrieval accuracy and precision when compared to TCCON with an average bias and RMSE of -0.08 ppm and 1.47 ppm, respectively. The methods used in this study can help to improve the XCO2 retrieval from TanSat and subsequently the Level-2 data production, and hence will be applied in the TanSat operational XCO2 processing.

Abstract
Macrophages have been reported to participate in inflammation, tissue homeostasis and tissue repair. The detailed mechanism of macrophage-mediated tissue repair is not clear. CXCL-10, secreted by monocytes, endothelial cells and fibroblasts, mediates immune response and angiogenesis by binding to CXCR3. In this study, the expression of CXCL-10 and CXCR3 in porcine lung injury induced by porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) infection was firstly examined. The results showed that the expression of both CXCL-10 and CXCR3 increased in the infected pig lungs. In addition, the increased expression of CXCL-10 and CXCR3 in macrophage treated by poly (I:C) was also observed, suggesting the autocrine system existed in macrophages. Furthermore, CXCL-10 treatment induced upregulation of Arg1 and VEGFa, and downregulation of TNFα in macrophage, and CXCR3 antagonist AMG487 treatment presented the contrary effects on the expression of Arg1, VEGFa, and TNFα. CXCL- 10-stimulated effects were dependent on PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Wound-healing assay showed that CXCL-10 treatment macrophage conditioned medium promoted the healing process of endothelial cells. Our results suggested that CXCL-10/CXCR3 in macrophage may mediate tissue repair by regulating the macrophage expression of Arg1, VEGFa and TNFα. Modulation of CXCL-10/CXCR3 axis in macrophage may be a potential therapeutic strategy for tissue injury and repair.

Abstract
Ethyl carbamate (EC) is a fermentation byproduct in foods and beverages and classified as a Group 2A probable human carcinogen. Each year, greater than 40 million metric tons of fermentation co-products from the U.S. ethanol industry are fed to food animals. A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry assay was developed to quantify EC extracted from various distillers grains co-products with a limit of detection at 0.7 ng/g (on an as-fed basis). EC was detected in all the distillers grains co-products surveyed in this study. Corn condensed distillers solubles contained the highest concentration of EC, ranging from 1618 to 2956 ng/g. Concentrations of EC in other types of distillers grains co-products varied from 17 to 917 ng/g. Cattle fed distillers grains co-products that constituted 19-38% of the total feed (as-fed) were found to contain 2-3 ng/mL of EC in blood plasma. No EC was detected in blood plasma from grass-fed control cattle.

Abstract
Chocolate made from small-batch production is known for distinct sensory properties that differentiate its products from large-scale production. Specifically, small-batch processing includes a melanging step, a chocolate refining (a process involving time and temperature to refine texture and flavor) process that occurs in a stone wet-grinder. Chocolatiers understand that melanging is essential to flavor and overall quality, however the influence of melanging on the aroma chemistry of the finished chocolate is anecdotal and largely uncharacterized. Here, we evaluated the effects of time and temperature of melanging on the volatile chemistry of the finished chocolate. Specifically, chocolate aroma was profiled using HS/SPME-GC-MS for three different time and temperature combinations. A total of 88 compounds were annotated by mass spectrometry and included a diverse set of chemical classes such as pyrazines, aldehydes, terpenes, alcohols, esters, and ketones. Analysis of variance (ANOVA), principal component analysis (PCA), and partial least squares analysis (PLS) revealed that the overall aroma profile was influenced by the type of melanging, and time had a greater effect than temperature. Example compounds affected by time include 2-methylpropanal, dimethyl sulfide, and benzaldehyde. Particle size was also measured for each sample. Majority particle size was found to be below 25 microns generally at all time points beyond 8 h. Analysis showed significant p-values for the temperature variable for several compounds, but significant p-values for the time variable were apparent for a greater number of compounds. For compounds which showed dependency on both time and temperature, the p-value for the time variable was much smaller in most cases. Both PCA and OPLS analyses suggested the same trends. These data support that time is a critical factor in determining the aroma chemistry of chocolate and affects a diverse set of known flavor active compounds.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study explored the factors influencing health behaviours during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak in China. The impact of perceived stress and positive perception of interventions on health behaviours in China were assessed using the extended information-motivation-behaviour skills (IMB) model. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional survey. METHODS The Questionstar online survey tool was used to construct a structured questionnaire based on the IMB model. Between 14 and 22 February 2020, during the peak of COVID-19 epidemic in China, 2449 participants were recruited by snowball sampling on WeChat and Tencent QQ social media platforms in China. Data were collected through an online questionnaire, and structural equation modelling was performed to evaluate the extended IMB model. RESULTS Health behaviours were assessed using a scoring system (total score range: 8-40); the average health behaviour score in this study was 34.62 ± 4.44. The term 'health risk stress' refers to the impact that perceived stress has on health, and this was experienced by 39.9% of participants. Only 35.9% of participants answered all seven questions on COVID-19 information correctly. The final model showed that information, motivation, behavioural skills, heath risk stress and positive perception of interventions had significant direct effects on health behaviours. Health behaviours were positively associated with the positive perception of interventions but negatively associated with health risk stress. Behavioural skills had the greatest impact on health behaviours. CONCLUSIONS In the face of public health emergencies, the extended IMB model has been used as a theoretical framework to construct more effective interventions. The government should pay attention to publicity and guidance, strengthen positive interactions with the public and disclose relevant information in a timely manner to gain trust and to maintain the positive public perception of the interventions. In terms of health education, the government should focus on behavioural skills, promptly rectify ineffective prevention information and raise awareness about the disease to relieve stress and anxiety in the population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Multidrug- and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/XDR-TB) continues to be a challenge in China. Bedaquiline (BDQ) is associated with accelerated sputum culture conversion and favourable treatment outcomes when added to a preferred background regimen. This post-hoc study aimed to assess the outcomes of BDQ treatment in Chinese patients with MDR/XDR-TB.METHODS: Data from 51 Chinese patients who participated in a global Phase 2, open-label, single-arm study (TMC207-C209) were analysed for effectiveness and safety of the BDQ-containing regimen.RESULTS: During the 24-week BDQ treatment, adverse events (AEs) occurred in 48 patients (94.1%), with the most common AE being hyperuricemia. Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) was reported in 13 patients (25.5%); serious DILI was reported in one patient (2.0%). Seven (13.7%) AEs were considered to be possibly related to BDQ by the investigators. Only one Grade 1 QTc prolongation was reported; no QTcF >500 ms was reported. One death occurred after BDQ treatment due to progressive TB. The median time to sputum culture conversion was 85 days based on the 24-week data. The sputum culture conversion rate was 82% at 24 weeks and 78% at 120 weeks; 66% of patients achieved a cure.CONCLUSIONS: BDQ was well-tolerated and effective for treating MDR-TB among Chinese patients.

Objectives
Self-reporting methods for dietary exposure are error-prone and have had limited impact to identify food components that mitigate disease risk. The purpose of this study was to use non-targeted and targeted metabolomics from feeding trials with rice bran and navy beans for the identification of dietary biomarkers across the lifespan.
Methods
Prepared meals/snacks, and biological samples from randomized-controlled trials performed in 50 infants, 38 children and 49 adults were utilized in this study. Diet groups were placebo control, rice bran, cooked navy bean powder, or a combination of rice bran/navy beans with increasing daily doses by age group and for duration of 4, 12 or 24 weeks per protocol. Plasma/dried blood spots, urine or stool samples were collected at a baseline, midpoint and endpoint. Non-targeted profiling was performed with UPLC-MS/MS, and metabolite quantification by LC-triple-quadropole (LC-QQQ-MS). A linear mixed model to compare between time points in each group was performed using SAS.
Results
The plasma/blood metabolomes contained between 771–1001 metabolites and showed variation in ∼20–30% of the profile following intervention. Fold changes over time and fold-differences in metabolite abundance were assessed by age (P < 0.05). There were 10–20 candidate identified from metabolomics across studies and with relevance to rice bran and/or navy bean were applied for targeted assay development. Food metabolomes confirmed metabolite origins and the host and microbial metabolism. Candidate metabolites included pipecolate, S-methlycysteine, S-methylcysteine sulfoxide, trigonelline, N-methyl-pipecolate, pyridoxal, 2-hydroxyhippurate, apigenin, xanthurenate, chiro-inositol, and salicylate. Inter-individual variation was reported across studies, ages and dietary patterns.
Conclusions
Dietary biomarkers for rice bran and/or navy bean intake merit additional selection criteria from non-targeted metabolomics. Targeted assays will need validation in larger cohort investigations using cross-over study designs and diverse dietary patterns.

Abstract
It is demonstrated that Mg, Cr, Mn and B can be doped close to GaAs surface by plasma doping without external bias at room temperature (RT). The process only takes a few minutes, and impurity densities in the range of 1018-1021/cm₃ can be achieved with doping depths about twenty nanometers. The experiment results are analyzed and the physical mechanism is tentatively explained as follows: during the doping process, impurity ion implantation under plasma sheath voltage takes place, simultaneously, plasma stimulates RT diffusion of impurity atom, which plays the main role in the doping process. The enhanced RT diffusion coefficients of Mg, Cr, Mn and B in GaAs are all in the order of magnitude of 10-15 cm₂sec-1. This is reported for the first time among all kinds of plasma assisted doping methods.

Abstract
PURPOSE Accurate identification of low-grade gliomas (LGGs; World Health Organization grades I and II) and their differentiation from brain inflammation lesions (BILs) remains difficult; however, it is essential for treatment. This study assessed whether a one-day protocol for voxel-wise 18F-FDG and 13N-ammonia PET/CT with uptake decoupling analysis could differentiate LGGs from BILs. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-eight patients with LGGs and 16 patients with BILs underwent 18F-FDG and 13N-ammonia PET/CT on the same day before any type of therapy. The decoupling score and tumor-to-normal tissue (T/N) ratio of 18F-FDG and 13N-ammonia were calculated at each location. Student's t-test was used to compare values, and ROC curve analysis was used to establish a cut-off value for the T/N ratio and decoupling score. Area under the curve (AUC) was calculated to evaluate differential efficacy. RESULTS Significant differences were observed in 13N-ammonia T/N ratio (p=0.018) and decoupling score (p=0.003) between LGGs and BILs; however, the 18F-FDG T/N ratio did not show any differences (p=0.413). Optimal cut-off values for 18F-FDG T/N ratio, 13N-ammonia T/N ratio, and decoupling score were 0.73, 0.97, and 2.31, respectively, with corresponding AUCs of 0.48, 0.68, and 0.77. The respective sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy parameters using these cut-off values were 53.6%, 62.5%, and 56.8%, respectively, for 18F-FDG; 50.0%, 75.0%, and 59.1%, respectively, for 13N-ammonia; and 60.7%, 93.8%, and 72.7%, respectively, for decoupling score. CONCLUSIONS 18F-FDG/13N-ammonia uptake decoupling score can be used to discriminate between LGGs and BILs. Use of a decoupling map of these two tracers can improve visual analysis and diagnostic accuracy.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to identify metabolites within the porcine uterine milieu during the early stages of blastocyst elongation. At Days 9, 10, or 11 of gestation, reproductive tracts of White cross‐bred gilts (n = 38) were collected immediately following harvest and flushed with Roswell Park Memorial Institute‐1640 medium. Conceptus morphologies were assessed from each pregnancy and corresponding uterine flushings were assigned to one of five treatment groups based on these morphologies: (a) uniform spherical (n = 8); (b) heterogeneous spherical and ovoid (n = 8); (c) uniform ovoid (n = 8); (d) heterogeneous ovoid and tubular (n = 8); and (e) uniform tubular (n = 6). Uterine flushings from these pregnancies were submitted for nontargeted profiling by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC)–MS techniques. Unsupervised multivariate principal component analysis (PCA) was performed using pcaMethods and univariate analysis of variance was performed in R with false discovery rate (FDR) adjustment. PCA analysis of the GC–MS and UPLC–MS data identified 153 and 104 metabolites, respectively. After FDR adjustment of the GC–MS and UPLC–MS data, 38 and 59 metabolites, respectively, differed (p < .05) in uterine flushings from pregnancies across the five conceptus stages. Some metabolites were greater (p < .05) in abundance for uterine flushings containing earlier stage conceptuses (i.e., spherical), such as uric acid, tryptophan, and tyrosine. In contrast, some metabolites were greater (p < .05) in abundance for uterine flushings containing later stage conceptuses (i.e., tubular), such as creatinine, serine, and urea. These data illustrate several putative metabolites that change within the uterine milieu during early porcine blastocyst elongation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Currently, pathogenesis of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is still unknown and the treatment is far from ideal. Therefore, we investigated the effect of inhibiting microRNA-520a-3p in NSCLC cells. MATERIALS AND METHODS NCI-H157 cells were treated with microRNA-520a-3p analogs for 48 h, or microRNA-520a-3p analogs and its inhibitor, for a total of 48 h. Many tests were performed, including MTT, flow cytometry, wound healing assay and transwell assay. The tumor model was established, and HMGB1 mRNA was detected by RT-PCR. Protein levels of HMGB1, MMP-2, MMP-9, Bcl-2, Bax, and Caspase-3 were assessed by Western Blot. RESULTS microRNA-520a-3p could significantly inhibit the proliferation, migration and invasion of NCI-H157 cells, inducing their apoptosis. microRNA-520a-3p inhibited tumor growth and decreased the mRNA and protein levels of HMGB1. Additionally, it decreased the Bcl-2/Bax ratio, MMP-2 and MMP-9 expression, and increased caspase-3 expression. CONCLUSIONS microRNA-520a-3p exhibited an effective inhibition on NCI-H157 tumor growth likely by inhibiting HMGB1 expression.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the incidence regularity and characteristics of pneumoconiosis among migrant workers in Shiyan city, and to provide a basis for making policies about pneumoconiosis prevention and treatment among migrant workers. Methods: In September 2018, 338 cases of pneumoconiosis among migrant workers and 354 cases of pneumoconiosis among non-migrant workers were collected between 2013 and 2017. The proportions of pneumoconiosis types, the age and seniority of onset workers, the severity grade of pneumoconiosis, the type of pneumoconiosis, the type of work and regional distribution, etc. were analyzed. Results: The age at onset of pneumoconiosisand the length of service of migrant workers and non-migrant workers in Shiyan city were significantly different (t=2.237, 3.208, P<0.05) . The proportion of pneumoconiosis stage was significantly different from that of non-migrant workers (χ(2)=47.897, P<0.05) , among migrant workers, the types of pneumoconiosis were mainly silicosis (308 cases, 91.1%) , coal worker's pneumoconiosis (29 cases, 8.6%) . The leading work types are rock drilling (115 cases, 34.0%) and blasting (105 cases, 31.1%) . The industry was mainly engaged in non-ferrous metal mining (205 cases, 60.7%) and coal (105 cases, 31.1%) . The area distribution involved each counties of Shiyan city, with Zhushan county (175 cases, 51.8%) and Yunxi county (125 cases, 37.0%) as the top two districts in number of cases. Of the cases of migrant workers, 89 cases (26.3%) had blood relationship with any others. There was no work-related injury insurance for migrant workers with pneumoconiosis. Conclusion: There is a high incidence of pneumoconiosis among migrant workers in Shiyan city, featured with the phenomenon of "late occurrence" and "family clustering", so it is urgent to strengthen the prevention and treatment of pneumoconiosis of migrant workers.
