Abstract
BACKGROUND Almost 60% of adults with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Treatment with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) may delay cognitive decline, but CPAP adherence is often suboptimal. In this study, we report predictors of CPAP adherence in older adults with aMCI who have increased odds of progressing to dementia, particularly due to Alzheimer's disease. METHODS The data are from Memories 2, "Changing the Trajectory of Mild Cognitive Impairment with CPAP Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea." Participants had moderate to severe OSA, were CPAP naïve, and received a telehealth CPAP adherence intervention. Linear and logistic regression models examined predictors. RESULTS The 174 participants (mean age 67.08 years, 80 female, 38 Black persons) had a mean apnea-hypopnea index of 34.78, and 73.6% were adherent, defined as an average of ≥4 hours of CPAP use per night. Only 18 (47.4%) Black persons were CPAP adherent. In linear models, White race, moderate OSA, and participation in the tailored CPAP adherence intervention were significantly associated with higher CPAP use at 3 months. In logistic models, White persons had 9.94 times the odds of adhering to CPAP compared to Black persons. Age, sex, ethnicity, education, body mass index, nighttime sleep duration, daytime sleepiness, and cognitive status were not significant predictors. CONCLUSIONS Older patients with aMCI have high CPAP adherence, suggesting that age and cognitive impairment should not be a barrier to prescribing CPAP. Research is needed to improve adherence in Black patients, perhaps through culturally tailored interventions.

[Investigation of the chronic respiratory symptoms and pulmonary function of adult residents in Hongtong County, Shanxi Province]. Abstract
Objective: To investigate the chronic respiratory symptoms and pulmonary function of adult residents in 3 towns of Hongtong County, Shanxi Province, and to explore their risk factors. Methods: The investigation of chronic respiratory symptoms and lung function status of adult residents in Hongdong County is based on the regional population of the entire county in Hongdong County. The project was initiated by the Science and Technology Department of Linfen City and coordinated by the Hongdong County Government. The investigation will be conducted in 3 townships in Hongdong County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province from April to November 2021: Demographic characteristics, respiratory symptoms, smoking dust exposure and other personal history were collected through questionnaires. Physical examination, routine blood tests and lung function tests were also performed on each individual. SPSS 22.0 software was used to conduct t test, χ2 test, ANOVA or Kruskal-Wallis test for statistical analysis of the collected information. Results: 10 945 subjects aged 18-102 years were included in the analysis, of whom 3 754 (34.3%) were male, 1 222 (11.2%) had a history of dust exposure, 7 164 (65.5%) had used straw and firewood as cooking fuel, and 3 296 (30.1%) had a history of smoking. Among the participants, 394 (3.6%), 339 (3.1%), and 1 543 (14.1%) had respiratory symptoms such as chronic cough, sputum, and dyspnea. Statistics showed that the population with chronic respiratory symptoms was more elderly and had a smoking history, and the incidence of chronic respiratory symptoms was higher in those who smoked more than 40 packs a year (all P<0.05). Men with a history of dust exposure were more likely to suffer from chronic cough and expectoration, while emaciation and biofuel use for more than 40 years were more likely to suffer from chronic expectoration and dyspnea (all P<0.05). The median values of forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC) and FEV1/FVC in 1 second were 2.19 L/s, 3.24 L and 69.16%, respectively. Among them, the lung function of 5 801 (53.0%) respondents was lower than the expected value. The median FEV1/FVC decreased with the increase of age. The FEV1/FVC of people over 40 years old with smoking history was lower, the dust exposure history of people with decreased lung function was more than that of people with normal lung function, and the incidence of chronic expectoration and dyspnea was higher in people with decreased lung function (all P<0.05). The absolute value and ratio of eosinophils in patients with decreased ventilation function over 60 years old were significantly higher than those with normal ventilation function, but the level of body mass index (BMI) was lower (all P<0.05). Conclusion: In Hongdong County, Shanxi Province, grassroots residents have poor medical awareness, low lung function examination rate, chronic respiratory symptoms and lung function decline are associated with more risk factors. Primary medical institutions need to formulate prevention strategies and carry out lung function detection according to the actual situation, focusing on monitoring and follow-up of high-risk groups to achieve early and timely prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Abstract
Emerging evidence suggests that the Impostor Phenomenon (IP) among doctoral students is a serious problem worldwide academic. Although previous studies demonstrate that IP can endanger doctoral students' academic advancement and psychological well-being, limited studies systematically and comprehensively explore the IP among those population. Thus, the fundamental goal of this study is to conduct a scoping review of IP among doctoral students so as to clarify the reality of their situation. Systematic searches were conducted using 5 databases: Springer, Google Scholar, Web of Science, PubMed, and JSTOR for empirical studies published from 1978 to 2023. Two reviewers independently carried out the literature search, study selection, data extraction and assessment of study; disagreements were resolved by a third reviewer. Thirty empirical studies covering four specific domains were include in current research, including the characteristics of IP among doctoral students, factors contributing to IP among doctoral students, correlation of IP with doctoral students' mental illness, and measurement of IP. The findings of this study may provide insight to improving the comprehension of IP among doctoral students and establishing the groundwork for future research in this field.

Abstract
Natural organisms, such as lobsters, lotus, and humans, exhibit exceptional mechanical properties due to their ordered structures. However, traditional hydrogels have limitations in their mechanical and physical properties due to their disordered molecular structures when compared with natural organisms. Therefore, inspired by nature and the properties of hydrogels similar to those of biological soft tissues, researchers are increasingly focusing on how to investigate bionic ordered structured hydrogels and render them as bioengineering soft materials with unique mechanical properties. In this paper, we systematically introduce the various structure types, design strategies, and optimization mechanisms used to enhance the strength, toughness, and anti-fatigue properties of bionic ordered structured hydrogels in recent years. We further review the potential applications of bionic ordered structured hydrogels in various fields, including sensors, bioremediation materials, actuators, and impact-resistant materials. Finally, we summarize the challenges and future development prospects of bionic ordered structured hydrogels in preparation and applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nowadays, pest infestation and resistance have appeared as a consequence of repeated and extensive use of pesticides. Thus, development of new effective pesticide candidates in crop protection is highly desirable. Herein, a series of new piperine derivatives containing oxime ester scaffolds were regioselectively and stereoselectively prepared as pesticidal agents. RESULTS Steric configurations of compounds 2, 5z and 13e were definitively determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Against Tetranychus cinnabarinus, notably, compounds 5f [median lethal concentration (LC50 ) = 0.14 mg mL-1 ] and 5v (LC50 = 0.13 mg mL-1 ) showed >107-fold greater acaricidal activity than piperine (LC50 = 15.02 mg mL-1 ), which were comparable to the commercial acaricide spirodiclofen. Against Aphis citricola, compound 5d (LD50 = 19.12 ng aphid-1 ) exhibited 6.1-fold more potent aphicidal activity than piperine (LD50 = 116.06 ng aphid-1 ). Additionally, through scanning electron microscopy, the toxicology study suggested that the acaricidal activity of piperine derivatives may be related to damage of the cuticle layer crest of T. cinnabarinus. CONCLUSION The structure-activity relationships suggested that 3,4-dioxymethylene of piperine was crucial for its acaricidal activity; and introduction of a certain length of aliphatic chain at the C-2 position was beneficial to the aphicidal and acaricidal activities. Compounds 5f and 5v are potential leads for further structural modification as acaricidal agents. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

The effectiveness of using platelet-rich concentrate with iliac bone graft in the repair of alveolar cleft: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. Abstract
The purpose of this study was to review the existing evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the effect of autogenous bone grafts combined with a platelet-rich concentrate on alveolar clefts. An electronic search was conducted in the PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Embase, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases for studies published between January 2000 and April 2022. This study included six RCTs to evaluate bone quantity (bone formation ratio, %) and quality (bone density in Hounsfield units, HU), as well as complications as a way to assess the safety of the technique. Two independent reviewers assessed the risk of bias. There was no statistically significant difference in bone formation ratio at 6 months of follow-up between the use of autologous bone alone for alveolar bone grafting or adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) (mean difference (MD) 14.33%, 95% confidence interval (CI) - 7.19% to 35.85%; P = 0.196) or platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) (MD 9.38%, 95% CI -2.36% to 21.12%; P = 0.123) to autologous bone. The MD for the change in bone density at 6 months was in favour of PRP added to autologous bone graft (MD 155.69 HU, 95% CI 99.29-212.09 HU; P < 0.001); however, this result was based on only two studies, one of which had a high risk of bias. Patients who received autologous bone graft with PRP were significantly less likely to experience complications (odds ratio (OR) 0.21, 95% CI 0.05-0.92; P = 0.038), but this was no longer statistically significant after a sensitivity test (OR 0.24, 95% CI 0.04-1.56; P = 0.138). In conclusion, this systematic review and meta-analysis appears to show no benefit to using a platelet-rich concentrate combined with autologous bone for alveolar cleft grafting in terms of bone volume, bone density, or complications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vir like N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methyltransferase associated protein (VIRMA) is associated with various tumors, but the specific role of VIRMA in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and the mechanisms are still unclear. Thus, in this study, in addition to the effect of VIRMA on TNBC, the underlying mechanisms were also explored. METHODS In vitro, VIRMA expression was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and western blot; VIRMA lentiviral overexpression vector (LV-VIRMA) and lentiviral vector connected with the shRNA targeting VIRMA (LV-shVIRMA) were constructed to explore the functional role of VIRMA; RNA immunoprecipitation and qRT-PCR were performed to assess the relationship between VIRMA and kinesin family 15 (KIF15). In vivo, female Balb/C mice (n = 6) were subcutaneously injected with TNBC cells transfected with LV-shRNA + LV-NC (negative control), LV-shVIRMA + LV-NC, and LV-shVIRMA + LV-KIF15, tumor volume, weight and immunohistochemistry staining of Ki-67 were employed to assess breast tumor growth; immunohistochemistry of VIRMA and KIF15 were performed to examine VIRMA and KIF15 expression in breast tumor tissues. RESULTS Compared to normal breast epithelial cells, VIRMA was increased in TNBC cells (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001). LV-VIRMA elevated proliferation, metastasis and invasion of TNBC cells in comparison with LV-NC (p < 0.001), while VIRMA knockdown resulted in the opposite effects in comparison with LV-shRNA NC (p < 0.01 and p < 0.001). Also, compared to LV-shRNA NC, LV-shVIRMA downregulated KIF15 expression by reducing KIF15 mRNA stability (p < 0.05 and p < 0.001), which was dependent on m6A. Furthermore, compared to LV-shVIRMA + LV-NC, LV-shVIRMA + LV-KIF15 not only reversed the reduced proliferation, metastasis and invasion of TNBC cells (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, and p < 0.001), but also reversed the decreased tumor weight and volume (p < 0.05, p < 0.01, and p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The above results indicated that VIRMA promoted TNBC progression by upregulating m6A-dependent KIF15 expression, providing a better understanding of the pathogenesis of TNBC.

Abstract
The function of the intestinal tract is critical to human health. Poria cocos is a widely used functional edible fungus in Asia and has been reported to modulate gastrointestinal function. However, the effects of polysaccharides, the main active constituents of Poria cocos, on the intestinal tract remains unclear and is the focus of the study. Poria cocos polysaccharides (PCP) were extracted, characterized, and administered to mice by gavage. The results show that PCP used in this study has a typical polysaccharide peak with a molecular weight of 11.583 kDa and is composed primarily of mannose, D-glucosamine hydrochloride, glucose, galactose, and fucose with a molar ratio of 15.308: 0.967: 28.723: 31.631: 23.371. The methylation results suggest that the PCP backbone may be t-Gal(p), 6-Gal(p) and 2,6-Gal(p). The effects of PCP on the mucosal barrier function of the mouse intestine (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) were examined in terms of intestinal physiological status, physical barrier, biochemical barrier, immune barrier, and microbial barrier. The results showed that PCP significantly improved the physiological state of mouse intestine. Moreover, PCP strengthened the intestinal physical barrier by upregulating the expression of intestinal Occludin and ZO-1 and downregulating the levels of serum endotoxin, DAO, D-lactate, and intestinal MPO. Regarding biochemical barrier, PCP could upregulate the expression of MUC2, β-defensin, and SIgA in intestinal tissues. In addition, PCP modulated the immune barrier by increasing IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, TGF-β, and IFN-γ expression. Besides, PCP increased the level of SCFAs in small intestinal contents. PCP modulates intestinal barrier function by altering the microbial composition of the gut. We also found that PCP could maintain intestinal barrier function by increasing the expression of Wnt/β-Catenin and Lrp5 proteins. Generally, our findings suggested that PCP may be used as a functional food to regulate intestinal mucosal function, thereby enhancing the health of the intestinal and host.

[Investigation and factor analysis of postoperative surgical site infections in emergency abdominal surgery in China from 2018 to 2021 based on Chinese SSI Surveillance]. Abstract
Objective: We investigated the incidence of surgical site infection (SSI) following emergency abdominal surgery (EAS) in China and further explored its risk factors, providing a reference for preventing and controlling SSI after EAS. Methods: This was an observational study. Data of patients who had undergone EAS and been enrolled in the Chinese SSI Surveillance Program during 2018-2021were retrospectively analyzed. All included patients had been followed up for 30 days after surgery. The analyzed data consisted of relevant patient characteristics and perioperative clinical data, including preoperative hemoglobin, albumin, and blood glucose concentrations, American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score, grade of surgical incision, intestinal preparation, skin preparation, location of surgical site, approach, and duration. The primary outcome was the incidence of SSI occurring within 30 days following EAS. SSI was defined as both superficial and deep incisional infections and organ/space infections, diagnoses being supported by results of microbiological culture of secretions and pus. Secondary outcomes included 30-day postoperative mortality rates, length of stay in the intensive care unit (ICU), duration of postoperative hospitalization, and associated costs. The patients were classified into two groups, SSI and non-SSI, based on whether an infection had been diagnosed. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors associated with SSI following EAS. Results: The study cohort comprised 5491 patients who had undergone EAS, comprising 3169 male and 2322 female patients. SSIs were diagnosed in 168 (3.1%) patients after EAS (SSI group); thus, the non-SSI group consisted of 5323 patients. The SSIs comprised superficial incision infections in 69 (41.1%), deep incision infections in 51 (30.4%), and organ or space infections in 48 (28.6%). Cultures of secretions and pus were positive in 115 (68.5%) cases. The most frequently detected organism was Escherichia coli (47/115; 40.9%). There were no significant differences in sex or body mass index between the SSI and non-SSI groups (both P>0.05). However, the proportion of individuals aged 60 years or older was significantly greater in the SSI than in the non-SSI group (49.4% [83/168] vs. 27.5% [1464/5323), χ2=38.604, P<0.001). Compared with the non-SSI group, the SSI group had greater proportions of patients with diabetes (11.9% [20/168] vs. 4.8% [258/5323], χ2=16.878, P<0.001), hypertension (25.6% [43/168] vs. 12.2% [649/5323], χ2=26.562, P<0.001); hemoglobin <110 g/L (27.4% [46/168] vs. 13.1% [697/5323], χ2=28.411, P<0.001), and albuminemia <30 g/L (24.4% [41/168] vs. 5.9% [316/5323], χ2=91.352, P<0.001), and a reduced rate of preoperative skin preparation (66.7% [112/168] vs. 75.9% [4039/5323], χ2=7.491, P=0.006). Furthermore, fewer patients in the SSI group had preoperative ASA scores of between one and two (56.0% [94/168] vs. 88.7% [4724/5323], χ2=162.869, P<0.001) in the non-SSI group. The incidences of contaminated and infected incisions were greater in the SSI group (63.1% [106/168] vs. 38.6% [2056/5323], χ2=40.854, P<0.001). There was a significant difference in surgical site distribution between the SSI and non-SSI groups (small intestine 29.8% [50/168] vs. 10.6% [565/5323], colorectal 26.2% [44/168] vs. 5.6% [298/5 323], and appendix 24.4% [41/168] vs. 65.1% [3465/5323]) χ2=167.897, P<0.001), respectively. There was a significantly lower proportion of laparoscope or robotic surgery in the non-SSI group (24.4 % [41/168] vs. 74.2% [3949/5323], χ2=203.199, P<0.001); the percentage of operations of duration less than 2 hours was significantly lower in the SSI than non-SSI group (35.7% [60/168] vs. 77.4% [4119/5323], χ2=155.487, P<0.001). As to clinical outcomes, there was a higher 30-day postoperative mortality rate (3.0%[5/168] vs. 0.2%[10/5323], χ2=36.807, P<0.001) and higher postoperative ICU occupancy rate (41.7% [70/168] vs. 19.7% [1046/5323], χ2=48.748, P<0.001) in the SSI group. The median length of stay in the ICU (0[2] vs. 0[0] days, U=328597.000, P<0.001), median total length of stay after surgery (16[13] vs. 6[5] days, U=128146.000, P<0.001), and median hospitalization cost (ten thousand yuan, 4.7[4.4] vs. 1.7[1.8], U=175965.000, P<0.001) were all significantly greater in the SSI group. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the absence of skin preparation before surgery (OR=2.435,95%CI: 1.690-3.508, P<0.001), preoperative albuminemia <30 g/L (OR=1.680, 95%CI: 1.081-2.610, P=0.021), contaminated or infected incisions (OR=3.031, 95%CI: 2.151-4.271, P<0.001), and laparotomy (OR=3.436, 95% CI: 2.123-5.564, P<0.001) were independent risk factors of SSI. Operative duration less than 2 hours (OR=0.465, 95%CI: 0.312-0.695, P<0.001) and ASA score of 1-2 (OR=0.416, 95% CI: 0.289-0.601, P<0.001) were identified as independent protective factors for SSI. Conclusions: It is important to consider the nutritional status in the perioperative period of patients undergoing EAS. Preoperative skin preparation should be conducted and, whenever possible, laparoscope or robot-assisted surgery. Duration of surgery should be as short as possible while maintaining surgery quality and improving patient care.

Abstract
Objective: There is no standard method for esophageal remnant gastric reconstruction for proximal gastrectomy. Reflux esophagitis caused by esophagogastrostomy remains a difficult surgical problem. To report the preliminary surgical results of novel esophagus-conical remnant gastric side overlap anastomosis (CGEO) , with particular emphasis on postoperative esophageal reflux. Methods: In June 2022, we developed a novel CGEO for laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy on two patients with Siewert type II esophagogastric junction adenocarcinoma. Surgical procedures for CGEO: (1) Laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy and preparation of conically shaped gastric remnant; (2) Determining anastomotic site of residual stomach and esophagus; (3) Side-to-side anastomosis of right esophageal wall to anterior of conical gastric remnant; (4) Valvuloplasty of esophageal stump. Results: Case 1 was a 71-year-old man with an operation time of 305 minutes and was successfully discharged from the hospital on the 9th day after surgery, and the postoperative pathology was T3N0M0. Case 2 was an 82-year-old man with an operation time of 325 minutes. He was discharged on the 10th day after surgery. In both cases, only mild esophageal mucosal changes were seen in gastroscopy, there were no obvious symptoms of esophageal reflux. There was also no significant weight change at half a year after operation. Conclusion: CGEO is moderately safe in radical surgery for proximal gastric cancer, and may have a preventive effect on the occurrence of postoperative esophageal reflux, but long-term results need to be confirmed by further studies with follow-up.

Abstract
Ir-Cu/C nanosheets with a thickness of about 2 nm were prepared using Ar plasma carbonization and reduction at room temperature. The obtained Ir-Cu/C catalyst, composed of single atom Ir-doped Cu nanoparticles embedded in a carbon framework, exhibits efficient oxygen evolution reaction activity with a low overpotential.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity often co-exists with metabolic abnormalities, but the results of studies on the relationship between obesity, metabolic abnormalities and the risk of gout are inconsistent. OBJECTIVE We aimed to study whether there was a mutual regulation between obesity, metabolic abnormalities and the risk of gout. METHOD We conducted a cross-sectional study to expound the association between obesity based on different metabolic statuses and the risk of gout. Patients were derived from Nationwide Readmission Database (2018 sample). RESULTS A total of 9,668,330 records were recruited for analysis from January to December. The risk of gout in the obesity group, metabolic abnormalities group and obesity combined with metabolic abnormalities group was 1.67 times (OR=1.67, 95%CI 1.64-1.70), 3.12 times (OR=3.12, 95%CI 3.09-3.15) and 4.27 times (OR=4.27, 95%CI 4.22-4.32) higher than that in the normal control group. For different metabolic components, OR value was highest in hypertension group (OR=2.65, 95%CI 2.60-2.70 and OR=4.85, 95%CI 4.73-4.97), followed by dyslipidemia group (OR=2.23, 95%CI 2.16-2.30 and OR=3.74, 95%CI 3.55-3.95) and in hyperglycemia group (OR=1.73, 95%CI 1.66-1.80 and OR=2.94, 95%CI 2.78-3.11). Fewer components of metabolic syndrome were associated with a lower risk of gout in both nonobese and obese patients. CONCLUSION When metabolic abnormalities were present, obesity induced a higher risk of gout. Different components of metabolic abnormalities had different effects on the risk of gout occurrence, and the number of metabolic abnormalities was closely related to the risk of gout occurrence. Follow-up and intervention methods targeting obesity and metabolic abnormalities should be considered for patients with gout.

Abstract
Objective: To understand the etiological characteristics of 2 serotypes of Salmonella strains isolated from a foodborne disease outbreak. Methods: A total of 11 anal swabs of the cases, 13 suspected contaminated food and 10 environmental samples were collected from a foodborne disease outbreak occurred on September 8, 2022 in a school. The anal swabs were enriched with selenite brilliant green enrichment broth (SBG) and brain heart infusion broth (BHI) respectively. PCR detection and culture of common intestinal pathogens were carried out. The suspected food samples were tested according to national standards for food safety. Multiple suspected Salmonella colonies were obtained and selected for serotype determination and whole genome sequencing. Serotypes were determined based on the whole-genome sequence, and clustering analysis was performed based on core genome single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP). Results: The positive rates of Salmonella in anal swabs and suspected food samples were 9/11 and 5/13 respectively. Both Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan were isolated from 4 anal swabs and 4 suspected food samples. For the remaining samples, only Salmonella Uganda or Salmonella Idikan was isolated in each sample. The positive rate of Salmonella in 11 anal swabs of the cases after BHI enrichment for 12 h and 24 h were all 9/11 in real-time PCR, same to the culture results. Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan formed two independent and genetically distant lineages in the clustering tree based on core genome SNP, and 0-14 and 0-23 SNP were observed in Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan respectively. Conclusions: This foodborne disease outbreak was probably caused by Salmonella Uganda and Salmonella Idikan, which both exhibited strong genetic diversity. The PCR based pathogen screening strategy plus pathogen enrichment for cases' annal swabs can be used in the routine outbreak investigation.

Abstract
AIMS To develop more potent drugs that eradicate persister bacteria and cure persistent urinary tract infections (rUTIs). METHODS AND RESULTS We synthesized eight novel clinifloxacin analogs and measured minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), the time-kill curves in uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) UTI89, and applied the candidate drugs and combinations against biofilm bacteria in vitro and in mice. Transcriptomic analysis was performed for UPEC after candidate drug treatment to shed light on potential mechanism of action. We identified Compound 2, named Qingdafloxacin (QDF), which was more potent than clinafloxacin and clinically used levofloxacin and moxifloxacin, with an MIC of < 0.04 μg ml-1 and an MBC of 0.08∼0.16 μg ml-1. In drug combination studies, QDF + gentamicin + nitrofuran combination but not single drugs completely eradicated all stationary phase bacteria containing persisters and biofilm bacteria, and all bacteria in a persistent UTI mouse model. Transcriptome analysis revealed that the unique antipersister activity of QDF was associated with downregulation of genes involved in bacterial stress response, DNA repair, protein misfolding repair, pyrimidine metabolism, glutamate, and glutathione metabolism, and efflux. CONCLUSIONS QDF has high antipersister activity and its drug combinations proved highly effective against biofilm bacteria in vitro and persistent UTIs in mice, which may have implications for treating rUTIs.

Abstract
Sentence-level sentiment analysis (SLSA) aims to identify the overall sentiment polarity conveyed in a given sentence. The state-of-the-art performance of SLSA has been achieved by deep learning models. However, depending on the i.i.d (independent and identically distributed) assumption, the performance of these deep learning models may fall short in real scenarios, where the distributions of training and target data are almost certainly different to some extent. In this paper, we propose a supervised solution based on the non-i.i.d paradigm of gradual machine learning (GML) for SLSA. It begins with some labeled observations, and gradually labels target instances in the order of increasing hardness by iterative knowledge conveyance. It leverages labeled samples for supervised deep feature extraction, and constructs a factor graph based on the extracted features to enable gradual knowledge conveyance. Specifically, it employs a polarity classifier to detect polarity similarity between close neighbors in an embedding space, and a separate binary semantic network to extract implicit polarity relations between arbitrary instances. Our extensive experiments on benchmark datasets show that the proposed approach achieves the state-of-the-art performance on all benchmark datasets. Our work clearly demonstrates that by leveraging DNN for feature extraction, GML can easily outperform the pure DNN solutions.

Abstract
Intracranial aneurysm (IA), is a localized dilation of the intracranial arteries, the rupture of which is catastrophic. Hypertension is major IA risk factor that mediates endothelial cell damage. Sox17 is highly expressed in intracranial vascular endothelial cells, and GWAS studies indicate that its genetic alteration is one of the major genetic risk factors for IA. Vascular endothelial cell injury plays a vital role in the pathogenesis of IA. The genetic ablation of Sox17 plus hypertension induced by AngII can lead to an increased incidence of intracranial aneurysms had tested in the previous animal experiments. In order to study the underlying molecular mechanisms, we established stable Sox17-overexpressing and knockdown cell lines in human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMECs) first. Then flow cytometry, western blotting, and immunofluorescence were employed. We found that the knockdown of Sox17 could worsen the apoptosis and autophagy of HBMECs caused by AngII, while overexpression of Sox17 had the opposite effect. Transmission electron microscopy displayed increased autophagosomes after the knockdown of Sox17 in HBMECs. The RNA-sequencing analysis shown that dysregulation of the Sox17 gene was closely associated with the autophagy-related pathways. Our study suggests that Sox17 could protect HBMECs from AngII-induced injury by regulating autophagy and apoptosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Zoonotic diseases pose a significant threat to public health. Chlamydia, as an intracellular pathogen, can colonize the intestinal tract of humans and animals, changing the gut microbiota. However, only a few studies have evaluated alterations in the gut microbiota of horses infected with Chlamydia. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate gut microbiota and serum biochemical indicators in horses with Chlamydial infection (IG) and healthy horses (HG). Fecal and blood samples were collected from 16 horses (IG: 10; HG: 6) before morning feeding for the determination of gut microbiota and serum biochemical parameters. RESULTS The results showed that total globulin (GLB), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and creatine kinase (CK) levels were significantly increased in IG compared with HG. Notably, the gut microbial diversity increased in IG compared with HG. Furthermore, Moraxellaceae and Akkermanisa abundance decreased in IG, while Streptococcus, Treponema, Prevotella, and Paraprevotella abundances (13 genera of bacterial species) increased. Compared with HG, carbohydrate metabolism increased in IG while amino acid metabolism decreased. In addition, the abundance of 18 genera of bacteria was associated with the level of five serum biochemical indicators. CONCLUSIONS In summary, this study elucidated the influence of Chlamydia infection in horses on the gut microbiota, unraveling consequential alterations in its composition and metabolic profile. Therefore, this study improves the understanding of Chlamydia-induced intestinal infections.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The therapeutic properties of Hippophae rhamnoides L. were known in Ancient Greece and in Tibetan and Mongolian medicine, which commonly used it for the treatment of heart ailments, rheumatism, and brain disorders. Modern studies have indicated that Hippophae rhamnoides L. polysaccharide (HRP) can improve cognitive impairment in mice with Alzheimer's disease (AD) but the specific mechanisms of the protective effect of HRP have not been elucidated fully. RESULTS Our results showed that Hippophae rhamnoides L. polysaccharide I (HRPI) improved pathological behaviors related to memory and cognition, and reduced 1 Beta-amyloid (Aβ) peptide deposition and neuronal cell necrosis. Pretreatment with Hippophae rhamnoides L. polysaccharide I (HRPI) also decreased the level of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and Myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), and reduced the release of inflammatory factors Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) in the brains of mice with AD. Treatment with HRPI also suppressed the expression level of Recombinant Kelch Like ECH Associated Protein 1 (KEAP1), and increased the levels of Nuclear factor erythroid 2-Related Factor 2 (Nrf2), antioxidant enzymes Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in the brains of AD mice. CONCLUSIONS On the whole, these findings revealed that HRPI could improve the learning and memory ability and attenuate pathologic impairment in AD mice, and the underlying mechanisms may involve mediating oxidative stress and inflammation, possibly through the regulation of the Keap1/Nrf2 and TLR4/MyD88 signaling pathways. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The efficacy of combining ablation and resection (CARe) in treating unresectable colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM) was well established. This study aimed to investigate the surgical and oncological outcomes of CARe strategy focusing on initially resectable CRLM. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total of 971 patients with resectable CRLM from a retrospective database of 1414 CRLM patients were enrolled, including 120 in the CARe group and 851 in the hepatectomy alone group. Short- and long-term outcomes were compared between groups using propensity score matching analysis. RESULTS After propensity score matching, 96 matched pairs of patients from each group were included. General characteristics of primary tumour and liver metastases were not statistically different between the CARe group and hepatectomy alone group. Disease-free survival (p = 0.257), intrahepatic recurrence-free survival (p = 0.329), and overall survival (p = 0.358) were similar between the two groups. Patients in CARe group had significantly reduced rate of major hepatectomy (5.2% vs. 21.9%, p = 0.001), lower incidence of postoperative hepatic insufficiency (0.0% vs. 5.2%, p = 0.023), and shortened postoperative hospital stay (7 d vs. 8 d, p = 0.019). Multivariate analysis showed that surgical approach did not affect oncologic outcome; liver metastasis with diameter >3 cm was an independent prognostic factor for hepatic recurrence-free and disease-free survival, and RAS status and lymph node metastasis at the primary site were independent prognostic factors for overall survival. CONCLUSION For patients with resectable CRLM, CARe may be a better treatment strategy than hepatectomy alone, as it could avoid major hepatectomy and get better surgical outcomes, while providing the similar oncologic results.

Abstract
RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES Accurate prediction neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) response in ovarian cancer (OC) is essential for personalized medicine. We aimed to develop and validate a deep learning (DL) model based on pretreatment contrast-enhanced CT (CECT) images for predicting NACT responses and classifying high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) to identify patients who may benefit from NACT. MATERIALS AND METHODS This multicenter study, which contained both retrospective and prospective studies, included consecutive OC patients (n = 757) from three hospitals. Using WHO RECIST 1.1 for the reference standard, a total of 587 women with 1761 images were included in the training and validation sets, 67 women with 201 images were included in the prospective sets, and 103 women with 309 images were included in the external sets. A multitask DL model based on the multiperiod CT image was developed to predict NACT response and HGSOC. RESULTS Logistic regression analysis showed that peritoneal invasion, retinal invasion, and inguinal lymph node metastasis were independent predictors. The DL achieved promising segmentation performances with DICEmean= 0.83 (range: 0.78-0.87). For predicting NACT response, the DL model combined with clinical risk factors obtained area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) of 0.87 (0.83-0.89), 0.88 (0.86-0.91), 0.86 (0.82-0.89), and 0.79 (0.75-0.82) in the training, validation, prospective, and external sets, respectively. The AUCs were 0.91 (0.87-0.94), 0.89 (0.86-0.91), 0.80 (0.76-0.84), and 0.80 (0.75-0.85) in four sets in HGSOC classification. CONCLUSION The multitask DL model developed using multiperiod CT images exhibited a promising performance for predicting NACT response and HGSOC with OC, which could provide valuable information for individualized treatment.

Abstract
Vitamin B6 is an essential nutrient with extensive applications in the medicine, food, animal feed, and cosmetics industries. Pyridoxine (PN), the most common commercial form of vitamin B6, is currently chemically synthesized using expensive and toxic chemicals. However, the low catalytic efficiencies of natural enzymes and the tight regulation of the metabolic pathway have hindered PN production by the microbial fermentation process. Here, we report an engineered Escherichia coli strain for PN production. Parallel pathway engineering is performed to decouple PN production and cell growth. Further, protein engineering is rationally designed including the inefficient enzymes PdxA, PdxJ, and the initial enzymes Epd and Dxs. By the iterative multimodule optimization strategy, the final strain produces 1.4 g/L of PN with productivity of 29.16 mg/L/h by fed-batch fermentation. The strategies reported here will be useful for developing microbial strains for the production of vitamins and other bioproducts having inherently low metabolic fluxes.

Abstract
For photocatalytic CO2 reduction to produce syngas, there are challenges in achieving a high catalytic efficiency and precise control over the product ratio. In this study, two non-noble metal complexes Cobpy and Cubpy (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) as cocatalysts for CO2 reduction and hydrogen evolution, respectively, were in situ supported on carbon nitride hollow nanospheres to construct a hybrid system for photocatalytic syngas production. The resulting CO/H2 ratio can be precisely regulated within a wide range of 0:1-9:1 by accurately controlling the content of the two complexes. The presence of the two complexes promotes the migration of photogenerated electrons of the carbon nitride. CO2 can be reduced to CO on the photoreduced species Co(bpy)2+ of Cobpy on CNHS, and H+ can be reduced to H2 on the photoreduced species Cu(bpy)2+ of Cubpy. Furthermore, this method is also applicable to other photocatalysts, such as CdS and TiO2 for generating syngas and regulating product ratios.

Abstract
The emergence of precision medicine and personalized pharmacotherapy has led to the development of advanced drug delivery systems that can respond to multiple stimuli. Conductive hydrogels have excellent electrical signal responsiveness and drug storage capabilities; however, current conductive hydrogels suffer from poor mechanical properties, low ionic conductivity, and high voltage. Herein, a covalently crosslinked viologen hydrogel was prepared using electroactive hyperbranched polyamidoamine (EHP) as the crosslinking center in a polymeric network. Attributed to its unique molecular architecture, this hydrogel exhibits improved mechanical properties (high tensile strength and desirable stretchability up to 1280%). Approvable ionic conductivity, biocompatibility, antibacterial properties, and wearable strain-sensing performance were also disclosed, ascribed to the participation of versatile viologen groups in the hydrogel structure. This hydrogel exhibited high efficiency in drug release (81.6%) at a lower voltage of -1.2 V. Moreover, fascinating pH-stimulus drug release behavior was also demonstrated in both acidic and alkalescent environments owing to the dramatic conformational transition of EHP. This work provides a new design strategy for conductive hydrogels for multiple stimulus-responsive drug delivery systems.

Evaluating the Impact of Obesity and Different Metabolic Statuses on the Prognosis of Hospitalized Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Cohort Study. Obes Facts 2023; 16:475-483. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Obesity is associated with an increased risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), whereas not all obese individuals have the same effect. In individuals with obesity, the role of metabolic status in the readmission of IBD remains unclear. Our study aimed to evaluate the association between different obesity metabolic phenotypes and the prognosis of IBD patients. METHODS We conducted a longitudinal cohort study using Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD) (2018 sample). Out of 12,928,231 discharge records, 63,748 records with a discharge diagnosis of IBD were identified for analysis. Cox proportional hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated, adjusting for potential confounders. RESULTS During a 180-day follow-up in IBD patients with different obesity metabolic phenotypes, all-cause readmission rate, inpatient mortality rate, unplanned readmission rate, total charge, hospitalized length of stay were statistically different (all p < 0.001). After multivariate Cox regression analysis, IBD patients with metabolically unhealthy nonobese (MUNO) had higher risk of readmission (all-cause and unplanned) (HR 1.04, 95% CI: 1.00-1.08 and HR 1.06, 95% CI: 1.02-1.10), and those with metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO) had higher risk of unplanned readmission (HR 1.08, 95% CI: 1.02-1.15). In subgroup analysis, both the MUNO group and MUO group had higher risk of readmission (all-cause and unplanned) in the ulcerative colitis (UC) subgroup, but only the MUNO group had higher risk of readmission (all-cause and unplanned) (HR 1.05, 95% CI: 1.00-1.10 and HR 1.06, 95% CI: 1.01-1.12) in the Crohn's disease (CD) subgroup. CONCLUSION Metabolic abnormalities were associated with an increased risk of readmission in patients with IBD, regardless of obesity.

Abstract
Objective: To compare the application of China growth standard for children under 7 years of age (China standards) and World Health Organization child growth standards (WHO standards) in evaluating the prevalence of malnutrition in children aged 0-<6 years in China. Methods: The research data came from the national special program for science & technology basic resources investigation of China, named "2019-2021 survey and application of China's nutrition and health system for children aged 0-18 years". Multi-stage stratified random sampling was used to recruit 28 districts (regions) in 14 provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities across the country. Children (n=38 848) were physically measured and questionnaires were conducted in the guardians of the children. The indicators of stunting, underweight, wasting, overweight and obesity were evaluated by China standards and WHO standards respectively. Chi-square test was used to comparing the prevalence of each nutritional status between the two standards, as well as the comparison between the two standards by gender and age. Results: Among the 38 848 children, 19 650 were boys (50.6%) and 19 198 were girls (49.4%), 19 480 urban children (50.1%) and 19 368 rural children (49.9%). The stunting, underweight and wasting cases in the study population were 2 090 children (5.4%), 1 354 children (3.5%) and 1 276 children (3.3%) according to the China standards, and 1 474 children (3.8%), 701 children (1.8%) and 824 children (2.1%) according to the WHO standards, respectively; the above rates according to the China standards were slightly higher than those to the WHO standards (χ2=111.59, 213.14, and 99.99, all P<0.001). The overweight and obesity cases in the study population were 2 186 children (5.6%) and 1 153 children (3.0%) according to the China standards, and 2 210 children (5.7%) and 1 186 children (3.1%) according to the WHO standards, with no statistically significant differences (χ2=0.14 and 0.48, P=0.709 and 0.488, respectively). Compared to the results based on WHO standards, the China standards showed a lower prevalence of overweight and obesity in boys (χ2=14.95 and 5.85, P<0.001 and =0.016, respectively), and higher prevalence of overweight in girls (χ2=12.60, P<0.001); but there was no statistically significant differences in girls' obesity prevalence between the two standards (χ2=2.62, P=0.106). Conclusions: In general, the prevalence of malnutrition among children aged 0-<6 years based on China standards is slightly higher than that on WHO standards. To evaluate the nutritional status of children, it is advisable to select appropriate child growth standards based on work requirements, norms or research objectives.

Abstract
For the past few years, graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has been widely used to eliminate environmental pollutants, but limited active site on surface and low separation/migration ability suppress its practical uses. Herein, we adopted a supramolecular self-assembly route followed with S doping to synthesize S-doped g-C3N4 with a hollow microsphere composition (SCNHM), where the shell was demonstrated to compose of ultrathin nanosheets. The unique structural characteristics endow the SCNHM with high specific surface area (∼81 m2 g-1) to provide abundant reaction sites and enhanced light-harvesting due to the light-scattering effect of hollow structure. Moreover, the S dopant meliorated the electronic structure to narrow the bandgap and promoted the charge separation/transfer capability. With this synergistic effect, the SCNHM presented greatly improved photocatalytic activity for degrading tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) compared to the CN, SCN and CNHM samples. This photocatalyst could eliminate high-concentration TC (50 mg L-1) in 18 min, and the 30 min removal efficiencies of 100 mg L-1 and 200 mg L-1 reached 92 % and 60 %, which is much better than the reported photocatalysts in literatures (usually ≤ 20 mg L-1). Additionally, the good photocatalytic durability was confirmed and the degradation pathway of TC was proposed. Furthermore, the SCNHM was proved to meanwhile possess superior performance for inactivating the typical Gram-positive bacterium of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and the typical Gram-negative bacterium of Escherichia coli (E. coli). Finally, based on determination of band alignment and detection of active species, a plausible photocatalytic mechanism was proposed.

Abstract
Due to their mechanical flexibility, conductive hydrogels have been widely investigated in the fields of flexible electronics and soft robots, but their non-negligible disadvantages, such as poor toughness and limited self-healing, severally restrict their practical application. Herein, gallium indium alloy (EGaIn) is utilized to initiate the polymerization and simultaneously serve as flexible fillers to construct a super-stretchable and self-healing liquid metal/polyvinyl alcohol/p(acrylamide-co-octadecyl methacrylate) (liquid metal/PVA/P(AAm-co-SMA)) double network hydrogel (LM hydrogel). The synergistic effect of the rigid PVA microcrystal network and the ductile P(AAm-co-SMA) hydrophobic network, together with the ionic coordination and hydrogen bonds between polymer networks (multiple physical cross-links), endow the LM hydrogel with excellent super-stretchability (2000%), toughness (3.00 MJ m-3), notch resistance, and self-healing property (healing efficiency > 99% at 25 °C after 24 h). The LM hydrogel exhibits sensitive strain sensing behavior, allowing human-computer interaction to achieve motion recognition and health monitoring. Significantly, owing to the excellent photothermal effect and low infrared emissivity of EGaIn, the LM hydrogel reveals great potential in infrared camouflage. The work of self-healing conductive liquid metal hydrogels will promote the research and practical application of hydrogels and liquid metal in intelligent devices and military fields.

Abstract
Driving behavior recognition can provide an important reference for the intelligent vehicle industry and probe vehicle-based traffic estimation. The identification of driving behavior using mobile sensing techniques such as smartphone- and vehicle-mounted terminals has gained significant attention in recent years. The present work proposed the monitoring of longitudinal driving behavior using a machine learning approach with the support of an on-board unit (OBU). Specifically, based on velocity, three-axis acceleration and three-axis angular velocity data were collected by a mobile vehicle terminal OBU; through the process of data preprocessing and feature extraction, seven machine learning algorithms, including support vector machine (SVM), random forest (RF), k-nearest neighbor algorithm (KNN), logistic regression (LR), BP neural network (BPNN), decision tree (DT), and the Naive Bayes (NB), were applied to implement the classification and monitoring of the longitudinal driving behavior of probe vehicles. The results show that the three classifiers SVM, RF and DT achieved good performances in identifying different longitudinal driving behaviors. The outcome of the present work could contribute to the fields of traffic management and traffic safety, providing important support for the realization of intelligent transport systems and the improvement of driving safety.

Abstract
Preferred crystalline orientation at the surface of quasi-2D organic-inorganic halide perovskites is crucial to promote vertical carrier transport and interface carrier extraction, which further contribute to device efficiency and stability in photovoltaic applications. However, loose unoriented and defective surfaces are inevitably formed in the crystallization process, especially with the introduction of bulky organic cations into the quasi-2D perovskites. Here, a facile and effective surface polishing method using a natural-friendly green solvent, 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol, is proposed to reconstruct the surface. After solvent polishing, the randomly oriented phases containing trap sites on the surface are successfully removed, and the compact vertical-oriented phases underneath are revealed with less defectiveness and better smoothness, which greatly facilitates carrier transport and interfacial charge extraction. Consequently, the green solvent polished devices show a boosting efficiency of 18.38% with a high open-circuit voltage of 1.21 V. The devices also show improved storage and operational stability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many people turn to online open encyclopedias such as Wikipedia to seek knowledge about child abuse. However, the information available on this website is often disorganized and incomplete. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to analyze Wikipedia's coverage of child abuse and provide a more accessible way for users to browse child abuse-related content. The study explored the main themes and subjects related to child abuse on Wikipedia and proposed a multilayer user-oriented subject schema from the general users' perspective. METHODS The knowledge of child abuse on Wikipedia is presented in the child abuse-related articles on it. The study analyzed child abuse-related articles on Wikipedia, examining their history versions and yearly page views data to reveal the evolution of content and popularity. The themes and subjects were identified from the articles' text using the open coding, self-organizing map, and n-gram approaches. The subjects in different periods were compared to reveal changes in content. RESULTS This study collected and investigated 241 associated Wikipedia articles and their history versions and traffic data. Four facets were identified: (1) maltreatment behavior (n=118, 48.9%); (2) people and environment (n=28, 11.6%); (3) problems and risks (n=33, 13.7%); and (4) protection and support (n=62, 25.7%). A total of 8 themes and 51 subjects were generated from the text, and a user-oriented subject schema linking the facets, themes, subjects, and articles was created. Maltreatment behavior (number of total views = 1.15 × 108) was the most popular facet viewed by users, while people and environment (number of total views = 2.42 × 107) was the least popular. The popularity of child abuse increased from 2010 to 2014 but decreased after that. CONCLUSIONS The user-oriented subject schema provides an easier way for users to seek information and learn about child abuse. The knowledge of child abuse on Wikipedia covers the harms done to children, the problems caused by child abuse, the protection of children, and the people involved in child abuse. However, there was an inconsistency between the interests of general users and Wikipedia editors, and the child abuse knowledge on Wikipedia was found to be deficient, lacking content about typical child abuse types. To meet users' needs, health information creators need to generate more information to fill the knowledge gap.

Abstract
BACKGROUND N-terminal probrain natriuretic peptide (NT-pro-BNP) and BNP are well-known markers for the diagnosis and prognostic of heart failure. Until now, it was not clear whether BNP levels are influenced by events occurring within Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). METHODS A thorough search in PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, and Web of Science databases up to October 24, 2022, and a meta-analysis aimed to explore further accurate estimates of the effects of BNP on OSAHS after CPAP treatment to assess the strength of the evidence. RESULTS The forest plot outcome indicated that CPAP therapy did not change the BNP level in patients with OSAHS, with a weighted mean difference (WMD) of -0.47 (95% CI: -1.67 to 2.62; P = 0.53] based on the random effect model because of high significant heterogeneity (I2 = 80%) among the studies. Subgroup analysis also explored the changes in BNP levels in patients with OSAHS. Begg's test (P = 0.835) and Egger's test (P = 0.245) suggested significant negative publication bias. CONCLUSION Our meta-analysis suggests that CPAP therapy does not change the BNP level in patients with OSAHS; therefore, it is not accurate to use BNP level as an index to evaluate heart function in patients with OSAHS, but more related research should be conducted.

Abstract
Empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, is a highly effective and well-tolerated antidiabetic drug. In addition to hypoglycemic effects, empagliflozin has many other effects, such as being hypotensive and cardioprotective. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidative stress effects in diabetic nephropathy. Several studies have shown that empagliflozin has anticancer effects. SGLT2 is expressed in a variety of cancer cell lines. The SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin has significant inhibitory effects on certain types of tumor cells, such as inhibition of proliferation, migration and induction of apoptosis. In conclusion, empagliflozin has promising applications in cancer therapy as a drug for the treatment of diabetes and heart failure. This article provides a brief review of the anticancer effects of empagliflozin.

Abstract
The underlying mechanisms of the relationship between the number of teeth and cognition is still unclear. We aimed to construct a mediation model between the number of residual teeth and cognitive function, using nutritional status as a mediating factor. This study was completed using the West China Health and Aging Trend cohort. A total of 6634 multi-ethnic older adults, aged 50 years or older, were included. This study measured cognitive function using the Short-Portable Mental Status Questionnaire, and nutritional status was assessed using the Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form. The mediation analysis examined the potential mediating role of nutritional status. The pathway analysis was supplemented and validated using the structural equation modelling framework. Multiple linear regression demonstrated that a higher number of residual teeth was correlated with enhanced cognitive function (β = -0.15; 95% CI: -0.19 to -0.111). The mediation model, from the number of residual teeth to cognitive impairment, was partially mediated by nutritional status (β = -0.0608; 95% CI: -0.0762 to -0.0461). The proportion of the mediating effect, expressed as a percentage, was 40.66%. Furthermore, the estimated coefficients for the number of residual teeth and nutritional status varied across ethnic groups. This study indicated that enhancing the nutrition of older adults could reduce the adverse effects of the number of residual teeth on cognitive function among older adults.

[Association between metabolism-related chronic disease combination and prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in community residents in Shanghai]. Abstract
Objective: To explore the combination of metabolism-related chronic diseases associated with the prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in community residents in Shanghai. Methods: The baseline data of Shanghai Suburban Adult Cohort and Biobank were used to understand the prevalence of five metabolism-related chronic diseases, including obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, gout and diabetes, based on questionnaire survey, physical examination and blood biochemical detection. NAFLD was diagnosed by B-ultrasound detection and questionnaire. Multivariable logistic regression model was used to analyze the association of 31 metabolism-related chronic diseases combinations with the prevalence of NAFLD. Results: The median age (Q1, Q3) of 65 477 subjects was 60 (51, 66) years, and men accounted for 40.6%. The overall prevalence of NAFLD was 38.2%, and the prevalence of HAFLD in patients without any of the five metabolism-related chronic diseases was 12.0%. The chronic disease combination with the strongest association with NAFLD was obesity + hypertension + hyperlipidemia + gout + diabetes in the total population (OR=37.94, 95%CI: 31.02-46.41), in women (OR=36.99, 95%CI: 28.78-47.54) and in age group ≥60 years (OR=36.19, 95%CI: 28.25-46.36). The chronic disease combination with the strongest association with NAFLD was obesity + hyperlipidemia + gout + diabetes in men (OR=50.70, 95%CI: 24.62-104.40) and in age group <60 years (OR=49.58, 95%CI: 24.22-101.47). Conclusions: The prevalence of NAFLD in community residents in Shanghai was high. Attention needs to be paid to health of obese people and weight loss should be promoted for them. Community health education should be strengthened for patients complicated with gout, diabetes, hyperlipidemia and hypertension and it is necessary to correct abnormal serum uric acid, blood sugar, blood lipids and blood pressure in a timely manner to reduce the risk of NAFLD.

Background Gastric cancer (GC) is the fifth leading cancer in the world, and there is a high mortality rate in China. Exploring the relationship between the prognosis of GC and the expression of related genes is helpful to further understand the common characteristics of the occurrence and development of GC and provide a new method for the identification of early GC, so as to provide the best therapeutic targets. Methods Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and markers of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) were investigated immunohistochemically using tumor samples obtained from 196 GC tissues and adjacent tumor tissues. The correlation of the expression level with histopathologic features and survival was investigated. Results Here, we show that VEGF and EMT markers expression were significantly correlated with depth of tumor invasion and GC stage (P < .05), degree of differentiation and lymph node metastasis (P < .001). We found that the rate of VEGF positivity in GC tissues was 52.05%, which was significantly higher than that in adjacent cancer tissues (16.84%). In GC, the association between VEGF and E-cadherin was negative (r = -0.188, P < .05), whereas VEGF and N-cadherin were positively correlated (r = 0.214, P < .05). Furthermore, the Kaplan-Meier analysis and a Cox regression model were used to analyze the effect of VEGF and EMT marker expression on the survival of the patients. We found that the overall survival of GC patients was correlated with VEGF (P < .001), N-cadherin (P < .001), E-cadherin (P = .002) expression, and some histopathologic features. Conclusions Vascular endothelial growth factor and EMT markers exist side by side and play a part together in the development of GC, which provides new ideas for evaluating the prognosis of GC and researching targeted drugs.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of two-step retraction and en-masse retraction on tooth movement pattern of anterior teeth and posterior anchorage with clear aligners using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Methods: A finite element model of maxillary first premolar extraction case undergoing clear aligner treatment was established based on maxillofacial cone-beam CT data of a 24-year-old adult male with individual normal occlusion, who visited Department of Oral Surgery, Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine for impacted mandibular third molar in June, 2022. The initial tooth displacement of five anterior retraction protocols (two-step with canine retraction, two-step with incisor bodily retraction, two-step with incisor retraction-overtreatment, en-masse bodily retraction, and en-masse retraction-overtreatment) were evaluated. Results: Two step with canine retraction caused distal tipping of the canine and labial tipping of the incisors (0.18° for central incisor and 0.13° for lateral incisor). Two step with incisor retraction caused mesial tipping of the canine. In two step with bodily retraction protocol, uncontrolled lingual tipping was found in central incisor (0.29°) and lateral incisor (0.32°). In two-step with incisor retraction-overtreatment protocol, the movement pattern of the incisors didn't change, but the inclinations reduced to 0.21° and 0.18°. En-masse retraction caused distal tipping of the canine. In en-masse bodily retraction protocol, uncontrolled lingual tipping was also found in central incisor (0.19°) and lateral incisor (0.27°). In en-masse retraction-overtreatment protocol, the central incisor showed controlled lingual tipping (0.02°) and the lateral incisor showed palatal root movement (0.03° labial inclination). Posterior teeth exhibited mesial tipping in all five protocols. Conclusion: En-masse retraction with incisor overtreatment was beneficial to incisor torque control in clear aligner treatment.

Abstract
Purpose The prevalence of cyberbullying has increased along with the growth of social media, which has brought about many adverse effects on individual development. The current study aimed to explore the connection between covert narcissism and cyberbullying and to test the roles of hostile attribution bias and self-control in the relationship between covert narcissism and cyberbullying. Materials and Methods A total of 672 Chinese college students filled up questionnaires measuring covert narcissism, cyberbullying, hostile attribution bias, and self-control. Results The results indicated that covert narcissism positively and significantly predicted cyberbullying. Hostile attribution bias partially mediated the relationship between covert narcissism and cyberbullying. Additionally, self-control moderated the relationship between covert narcissism and cyberbullying. Specifically, the positive predictive effect of covert narcissism on cyberbullying gradually weakened as self-control improved. Conclusion This study explored the underlying mechanism of cyberbullying and found that covert narcissism could affect cyberbullying through hostile attribution bias. Self-control moderated the relationship between covert narcissism and cyberbullying. The results have significant implications for the intervention and prevention of cyberbullying and additional evidence for the relationship between covert narcissism and cyberbullying.

Abstract
The single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) binding protein complex RPA plays a critical role in promoting DNA replication and multiple DNA repair pathways. However, how RPA is regulated to achieve its functions precisely in these processes remains elusive. Here, we found that proper acetylation and deacetylation of RPA are required to regulate RPA function in promoting high-fidelity DNA replication and repair. We show that yeast RPA is acetylated on multiple conserved lysines by the acetyltransferase NuA4 upon DNA damage. Mimicking constitutive RPA acetylation or blocking its acetylation causes spontaneous mutations with the signature of micro-homology-mediated large deletions or insertions. In parallel, improper RPA acetylation/deacetylation impairs DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair by the accurate gene conversion or break-induced replication while increasing the error-prone repair by single-strand annealing or alternative end joining. Mechanistically, we show that proper acetylation and deacetylation of RPA ensure its normal nuclear localization and ssDNA binding ability. Importantly, mutation of the equivalent residues in human RPA1 also impairs RPA binding on ssDNA, leading to attenuated RAD51 loading and homologous recombination repair. Thus, timely RPA acetylation and deacetylation likely represent a conserved mechanism promoting high-fidelity replication and repair while discriminating the error-prone repair mechanisms in eukaryotes.

Abstract
Biomolecular condensates formed by phase separation are involved in many cellular processes. Dysfunctional or abnormal condensates are closely associated with neurodegenerative diseases, cancer and other diseases. Small molecules can effectively regulate protein phase separation by modulating the formation, dissociation, size and material properties of condensates. Discovery of small molecules to regulate protein phase separation provides chemical probes for deciphering the underlying mechanism and potential novel treatments for condensate-related diseases. Here we review the advances of small molecule regulation of phase separation. The discovery, chemical structures of recently found small molecule phase separation regulators and how they modulate biological condensates are summarized and discussed. Possible strategies to accelerate the discovery of more liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS)-regulating small molecules are proposed.

Abstract
Li-rich Mn-based oxide cathodes (LMOs) are regarded as one of the most prospective high energy density cathodes due to the reversible anion redox reaction, which gives them a very high capacity. However, LMOs materials usually have problems like low initial coulombic efficiency (ICE) and poor cycling performance during cycling, which are associated with irreversible surface O2 release and unfavourable electrode/electrolyte interface side reactions. Herein, an innovative and scalable NH4Cl-assisted gas-solid interfacial reaction treatment technique is employed to construct oxygen vacancies and spinel/layered heterostructures simultaneously on the surface of LMOs. The synergistic effect of the oxygen vacancy and the surface spinel phase can not only effectively enhance the redox properties of the oxygen anion and inhibit irreversible oxygen release, but also effectively mitigate the side reactions at the electrode/electrolyte interface, inhibit the formation of CEI films and stabilize the layered structure. The electrochemical performance of the treated NC-10 sample improved significantly, showing an increase in ICE from 77.4 % to 94.3 % and excellent rate capability and cycling stability, with a capacity retention of 77.9 % after 400 cycles at 1 C. This oxygen vacancy and spinel phase integration strategy offers an exciting prospect and avenue for improving the integrated electrochemical performance of LMOs.

Abstract
As one of the most widely grown crops in the world, rice is not only a staple food but also a source of calorie intake for more than half of the world's population, occupying an important position in China's agricultural production. Thus, determining the inner potential connections between the genetic mechanisms and phenotypes of rice using dynamic analyses with high-throughput, nondestructive, and accurate methods based on high-throughput crop phenotyping facilities associated with rice genetics and breeding research is of vital importance. In this work, we developed a strategy for acquiring and analyzing 58 image-based traits (i-traits) during the whole growth period of rice. Up to 84.8% of the phenotypic variance of the rice yield could be explained by these i-traits. A total of 285 putative quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were detected for the i-traits, and principal components analysis was applied on the basis of the i-traits in the temporal and organ dimensions, in combination with a genome-wide association study that also isolated QTLs. Moreover, the differences among the different population structures and breeding regions of rice with regard to its phenotypic traits demonstrated good environmental adaptability, and the crop growth and development model also showed high inosculation in terms of the breeding-region latitude. In summary, the strategy developed here for the acquisition and analysis of image-based rice phenomes can provide a new approach and a different thinking direction for the extraction and analysis of crop phenotypes across the whole growth period and can thus be useful for future genetic improvements in rice.

Abstract
Wing polyphenism is a common phenomenon that plays key roles in environmental adaptation of insects. Insulin/insulin-like growth factor signaling (IIS) pathway is a highly conserved pathway in regulation of metabolism, development, and growth in metazoans. It has been reported that IIS is required for switching of wing morph in brown planthopper via regulating the development of the wing pad. However, it remains elusive whether and how IIS pathway regulates transgenerational wing dimorphism in aphid. In this study, we found that pairing and solitary treatments can induce pea aphids to produce high and low percentage winged offspring, respectively. The expression level of ILP5 (insulin-like peptide 5) in maternal head was significantly higher upon solitary treatment in comparison with pairing, while silencing of ILP5 caused no obvious change in the winged offspring ratio. RNA interference-mediated knockdown of FoxO (Forkhead transcription factor subgroup O) in stage 20 embryos significantly increased the winged offspring ratio. The results of pharmacological and quantitative polymerase chain reaction experiments showed that the embryonic insulin receptors may not be involved in wing polyphenism. Additionally, ILP4 and ILP11 exhibited higher expression levels in 1st wingless offspring than in winged offspring. We demonstrate that FoxO negatively regulates the wing morph development in embryos. ILPs may regulate aphid wing polyphenism in a developmental stage-specific manner. However, the regulation may be not mediated by the canonical IIS pathway. The findings advance our understanding of IIS pathway in insect transgenerational wing polyphenism.

Abstract
Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) develops in ~40% of patients with diabetes and is the leading cause of chronic kidney disease worldwide. We used single-cell RNA-sequencing and spatial transcriptomic analyses of kidney specimens from patients with DKD. Unsupervised clustering revealed distinct cell clusters, including epithelial cells and fibroblasts. We also identified differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and assessed enrichment, and cell-cell interactions. Specific enrichment of DKD was evident in venous endothelial cells (VECs) and fibroblasts with elevated CCL19 expression. The DEGs in most kidney parenchymal cells in DKD were primarily enriched in inflammatory signaling pathways. Intercellular crosstalk revealed that most cell interactions in DKD are associated with chemokines. Spatial transcriptomics revealed that VECs co-localized with fibroblasts, with most immune cells being enriched in areas of renal fibrosis. These results provided insight into the cell populations, intercellular interactions, and signaling pathways underlying the pathogenesis and potential targets for treating DKD.

Abstract
Background Few studies found that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may be related to postoperative neurocognitive disorders (PND) including postoperative delirium (POD) and cognitive decline (POCD) in the early postoperative period. However, the results are controversial and need further verification, and no research has explored the effect of OSA on the incidence of PND during the 1-year follow-up periods. Furthermore, OSA patients with excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) as a severe phenotype have more significant neurocognitive impairments, but the relationship between OSA with EDS and PND within 1 year after surgery has not been studied. Objectives To explore the effect of moderate-to-high risk of OSA and the moderate-to-high risk of OSA with EDS on PND within 1 year after surgery. Methods In this prospective cohort study, including 227 older patients, moderate-to-high risk of OSA (using STOP-BANG), subjective EDS (using Epworth Sleepiness Scale), and objective EDS (using Actigraphy) were selected as exposures. Key outcomes included POD during hospitalization (using Confusion Assessment Method-Severity), POCD at discharge, 1-month and 1-year after surgery (using Mini-Mental State Examination and Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status-40). We applied multiple logistic regression models to estimate the effect of moderate-to-high risk of OSA and moderate-to-high risk of OSA with EDS on PND. Results In the multivariate analysis, moderate-to-high risk of OSA was not associated with POD during hospitalization and POCD at discharge, 1-month, and 1-year after surgery (p > 0.05). However, the moderate-to-high risk of OSA with subjective EDS was related to POCD at discharge compared to the moderate-to-high risk of OSA or normal group (no moderate-to-high risk of OSA and no EDS) (p < 0.05). In addition, moderate-to-high risk of OSA with objective EDS was associated with POCD at discharge, 1-month, and 1-year postoperatively compared to the moderate-to-high risk of OSA or normal group (p < 0.05). Conclusion Moderate-to-high risk of OSA with EDS, not moderate-to-high risk of OSA alone, was a clinically helpful predictor for POCD within 1-year after surgery and should be routinely assessed before surgery.

Abstract
Surface topography has become a powerful tool to control cell behaviors, however, it's still difficult to monitor cellular microenvironment changes during topography-induced cell responses. Here, a dual-functional platform integrating cell alignment with extracellular pH (pHe) measurement is proposed. The platform is fabricated by assembling gold nanorods (AuNRs) into micro pattern via wettability difference interface method, which provides topographical cues and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) effect for cell alignment and biochemical detection respectively. Results demonstrate that contact guidance and cell morphology changes are achieved by the AuNRs micro pattern, and pHe are also obtained by the changes of SERS spectra during cell alignment, where the pHe near cytoplasm is lower than nucleus, revealing the heterogeneity of extracellular microenvironment. Moreover, a correlation between lower extracellular pH and higher cell migration ability is revealed, and AuNRs micro pattern can differentiate cells with different migration ability, which may be an inheritable character during cell division. Furthermore, mesenchymal stem cells response dramatically to AuNRs micro pattern, showing different morphology and increased pHe level, offering the potential of impacting stem cell differentiation. This approach provides a new idea for the research of cell regulation and response mechanism.

Abstract
Peroxisome proliferator-activator receptors α/δ (PPARα/δ) are considered as potential drug targets for cholestatic liver diseases (CLD) via ameliorating hepatic cholestasis, inflammation, and fibrosis. In this work, we developed a series of hydantoin derivatives as potent PPARα/δ dual agonists. Representative compound V1 exhibited PPARα/δ dual agonistic activity at the subnanomolar level (PPARα EC50 = 0.7 nM; PPARδ EC50 = 0.4 nM) and showed excellent selectivity over other related nuclear receptors. The crystal structure revealed the binding mode of V1 and PPARδ at 2.1 Å resolution. Importantly, V1 demonstrated excellent pharmacokinetic (PK) properties and a good safety profile. Notably, V1 showed potent anti-CLD and antifibrotic effects in preclinical models at very low doses (0.03 and 0.1 mg/kg). Collectively, this work provides a promising drug candidate for treating CLD and other hepatic fibrosis diseases.

Abstract
The enhancement of nitrogen removal was reinforced by nitritation/anammox in an anaerobic/oxic/anoxic (AOA) system of integrated fixed biofilm activated sludge. Nitritation was first attained by the method of free nitrous acid (FNA) inhibition with ammonia residues, and anaerobic ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AnAOB) were then added into the system, which enabled the occurrence of nitritation coupled with anaerobic ammonia oxidation (anammox). The results indicated that nitrogen removal was enhanced by the nitritation/anammox pathway with an efficiency of 88.9%. A microbial analysis showed that the ammonia oxidizing bacterium (AOB) Nitrosomonas was enriched on the biofilm (5.98%) and in the activated sludge (2.40%), and the AnAOB Candidatus Brocadia was detected on the biofilm with a proportion of 0.27%. Nitritation/anammox was attained and maintained due to the accumulation of functional bacteria.
