Abstract
Silybin, a natural compound for treating liver disease, has been shown to provide diverse biological activities such as anticancer, antioxidant and hepatoprotective. However, it is still challenging to develop silybin product due to its poor aqueous solubility and limited gastrointestinal absorption. In order to improve the low bioavailability of silybin, a novel formulation of phytosome-nanosuspensions for silybin shielding termed as SPCs-NPs, has been developed herein for hepatoprotection efficacy. We found that SPCs-NPs formulation not only possessed an increased in vitro dissolution rate but also improved plasma concentration in the in vivo pharmacokinetic study. Moreover, SPCs-NPs was provided with more potent hepatoprotective effects in pharmacodynamic assessments. Moreover, physicochemical features including interactions between silybin and phospholipid, and crystalline variation of the optimized SPCs-NPs formulation were confirmed by using Fourier-transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H-NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and powder X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (PXRD) respectively. Overall, the interesting finding of this study suggested that SPCs-NPs could be applied as a promising formulation for a higher drug bioavailability and better hepatoprotection efficacy.

Abstract
Graphene has attracted great interests in various areas including optoelectronics, spintronics, and nanomechanics due to its unique electronic structure, a linear dispersion with a zero bandgap around the Dirac point. Shifts of Dirac cones in graphene creates pseudo-magnetic field, which generates an energy gap and brings a zero-magnetic-field analogue of the quantum Hall effect. Recent studies have demonstrated that graphene pseudo-magnetic effects can be generated by vacancy defects, atom adsorption, zigzag or armchair edges, and external strain. Here, a larger than 100 T pseudo-magnetic field is reported that generated on the step area of graphene; and with the ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy, the observed Landau levels can be effectively tailored by graphene phonons. The zero pseudo-Landau level is suppressed due to the phonon-mediated inelastic tunneling, and this is observed by the scanning tunneling spectroscopy spectrum and confirmed by the Vienna ab initio simulation package calculation, where graphene phonons modulate the flow of tunneling electrons and further mediate pseudo-Landau levels. These observations demonstrate a viable approach for the control of pseudo-Landau levels, which tailors the electronic structure of graphene, and further ignites applications in graphene valley electronics.

Abstract
Optical chirality occurs when materials interact differently with light in a specific circular polarization state. Chiroptical phenomena inspire wide interdisciplinary investigations, which require advanced designs to reach strong chirality for practical applications. The development of artificial intelligence provides a new vision for the manipulation of light-matter interaction beyond the theoretical interpretation. Here, we report a self-consistent framework named the Bayesian optimization and convolutional neural network that combines Bayesian optimization and deep convolutional neural network algorithms to calculate and optimize optical properties of metallic nanostructures. Both electric-field distributions at the near field and reflection spectra at the far field are calculated and self-learned to suggest better structure designs and provide possible explanations for the origin of the optimized properties, which enables wide applications for future nanostructure analysis and design.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims at investigating whether GAS5 (grow arrest-specific 5) could promote cardiomyocyte apoptosis by upregulating LAS1 expression, thereby participating in the development of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. MATERIALS AND METHODS The expression level of GAS5 in H9c2 cells after hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) treatment was detected by quantitative Real time-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Myocardial injury markers in H9c2 cells were evaluated using relative commercial kits, including activities of LDH (lactate dehydrogenase), MDA (malondialdehyde), SOD (superoxide dismutase) and GSH-PX (glutathione peroxidase). Cell proliferation and apoptosis were detected by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) assay and flow cytometry, respectively. The protein expressions of apoptosis-related genes and p38/MAPK pathway-related genes were detected by Western blot. The regulatory effects of GAS5 on the p38/MAPK pathway were assessed after treatment with p38/MAPK pathway inhibitor in H9c2 cells. RESULTS QRT-PCR results showed that the expression levels of GAS5 and LAS1 in H/R-treated H9c2 cells were remarkably upregulated compared to those of controls. GAS5 overexpression increased activities of LDH, MDA, SOD and GSH-PX in H/R-treated H9c2 cells. Meanwhile, GAS5 overexpression reduced cell proliferation and apoptosis of H/R-treated cells. Western blot results suggested that the pro-apoptosis genes Bax and cytochrome C were upregulated, whereas the anti-apoptosis gene Bcl-2 was downregulated after GAS5 overexpression. The overexpression of LAS1 in H9c2 cells obtained the same results as GAS5 overexpression. Furthermore, the expressions of p-p38 and p-ERK were upregulated by GAS5 overexpression. SB203580, the p38/MAPK pathway inhibitor, could reverse the inhibited proliferation and increase apoptosis induced by overexpression of GAS5. CONCLUSIONS GAS5 promotes myocardial apoptosis in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury by upregulating LAS1 expression via p38/MAPK pathway. GAS5 may be a potential therapeutic target for myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Abstract
Objective Lumbar spinal stenosis is a medical condition characterized by the narrowing of the spinal canal as a consequence of bone and soft tissue degeneration, including disc herniation, facet and ligamentum flavum hypertrophy, and osteophyte formation. The percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic discectomy (PTED) technique is one of the emerging surgical alternatives for treating central lumbar stenosis. The present study aims to describe the present techniques of PTED and foraminoplasty for central lumbar stenosis, and discuss the feasibility and advantages of this technique. Methods A total of 55 patients with an average age of 50 years were recruited in this study. They were operated on between August 2017 and June 2018 by a single surgeon for symptomatic lumbar stenosis using the PTED and foraminoplasty technique, along with a detailed description of the present technique. The retrospective analysis of 55 patients operated between August 2017 and June 2018 by a single surgeon for symptomatic lumbar stenosis using the PTED and foraminoplasty techniques, and the detailed description of the present technique were the focus of the present study. For all patients, the PTED and foraminoplasty procedure was performed under local anesthesia in the lateral position on a radiolucent table using C‐arm fluoroscopy. The retrospective analysis evaluated the outcomes of symptoms through follow‐up interviews at six weeks, six months, and one year after surgery. The analyzed parameters included surgery time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative complications, visual analog scale (VAS) score, Japan Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). The modified MacNab criteria were adopted. Results The average duration of symptoms was 15.6 weeks. The mean operative time was 161 minutes. The mean volume of intraoperative blood loss was 21 mL. The mean follow‐up period was 14.6 months. The average preoperative VAS score for leg pain and low back pain was 6.8 and 5.5, respectively. The preoperative ODI and JOA score was 49.2 and 14.6, respectively. At the final follow‐up, all 55 patients had an average VAS score of 1.1 for leg pain and 0.5 for low back pain. At the same time, the average ODI and JOA score was seven and 24.5, respectively. The statistical analysis showed that the VAS score, ODI value, and JOA score were significantly lower in all time‐points at post‐operation, when compared to those at pre‐operation. For the modified MacNab criteria, the final outcome results were excellent in 39 patients (70.9%), good in nine patients (16.4%), fair in four patients (7.3%), and poor in two patients (3.6%), and the overall success rate was 89.1%. Two patients underwent a second operation during the follow‐up period, and their symptoms were released after the reoperation. Conclusion PTED and foraminoplasty technique showed promising outcomes in the treatment of central lumbar stenosis in a 1‐year follow‐up period. It suggested that PTED and foraminoplasty might be applied as a safe and effective therapeutic option for patients with lumbar stenosis.

Abstract
During biliary disease, cholangiocytes become activated by various pathological stimuli, including transforming growth factor β (TGF-β). The result is an epigenetically regulated transcriptional program leading to a pro-fibrogenic microenvironment, activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs), and progression of biliary fibrosis. This study evaluated how TGF-β signaling intersects with epigenetic machinery in cholangiocytes to support fibrogenic gene transcription. We performed RNA sequencing in cholangiocytes with or without TGF-β. Ingenuity pathway analysis identified "HSC Activation" as the highly up-regulated pathway, including overexpression of fibronectin 1 (FN), connective tissue growth factor, and other genes. Bioinformatics identified enhancer of zeste homologue 2 (EZH2) as an epigenetic regulator of the cholangiocyte TGF-β response. EZH2 overexpression suppressed TGF-β-induced FN protein in vitro, suggesting FN as a direct target of EZH2-based repression. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assays identified an FN promoter element in which EZH2-mediated tri-methylation of lysine 27 on histone 3 is diminished by TGF-β. TGF-β also caused a 50% reduction in EZH2 protein levels. Proteasome inhibition rescued EZH2 protein and led to reduced FN production. Immunoprecipitation followed by mass spectrometry identified ubiquitin protein ligase E3 component N-recognin 4 in complex with EZH2, which was validated by western blotting in vitro. Ubiquitin mutation studies suggested K63-based ubiquitin linkage and chain elongation on EZH2 in response to TGF-β. A deletion mutant of EZH2, lacking its N-terminal domain, abrogates both TGF-β-stimulated EZH2 degradation and FN release. In vivo, cholangiocyte-selective knockout of EZH2 exacerbates bile duct ligation-induced fibrosis whereas MDR2-/- mice are protected from fibrosis by the proteasome inhibitor bortezomib. Conclusion: TGF-β regulates proteasomal degradation of EZH2 through N-terminal, K63-linked ubiquitination in cholangiocytes and activates transcription of a fibrogenic gene program that supports biliary fibrosis.

Abstract
The search for suitable anodes with good performance is a key challenge for rechargeable Li- and Na-ion batteries (LIBs and NIBs). In this work, we adopt first-principles calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the ion transport mechanism and potential of C2N stoichiometric nitrogenated holey graphite (C2N-NHG) as a promising anode material for LIBs and NIBs. Although huge in-plane diffusion barriers for both Li and Na ions restrict the application of the C2N-NHG monolayer as an effective anode, Li and Na ions are found to exhibit facile out-of-plane ion transport in the most stable layered AD stacking C2N-NHG. The fully lithiated and sodiated cases of LiC2N and Na0.67C2N show reversible specific capacities up to 587 mA h g-1 and 353 mA h g-1, low chemical potentials of 0.12 V and 0.25 V, and small volume expansions of 7.16% and 13.54%, respectively. Meanwhile, the out-of-plane collective diffusion reduces Li/Na collective migration barriers to 0.23 eV and 0.18 eV. These findings suggest that AD stacking C2N-NHG, with metallic properties after lithiation and sodiation processes, high specific capacity, low open circuit voltage, small volume expansion, and low collective migration barriers, has the potential to serve as a promising high-rate anode material for LIBs and NIBs with large energy density and power density. The calculations reveal that the novel out-of-plane diffusion behaviour plays a crucial role in Li/Na ion transport in holey layered materials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Chile is an attractive case study because of the deep political changes that it underwent over a short period of time: from a universal health service (60s), through a neoliberal reform (70s) and onto a series of legislative reforms (80s-90s). This article aims to explore and assess the evolution of health outcomes, equity, and utilization in Chile through the last period of these reforms (1990-2015). STUDY DESIGN Standardized health equity analysis. METHODS We conducted a standardized economic analysis on health equity and healthcare utilization using the ADePT software (by the World Bank) and using data from the Chilean National Socio-economic Survey. We evaluated trends of health equity and examined concentration curves of health utilization of healthcare services and health outcomes such as children/elder/pregnant nutritional status, self-reported health, and physical limitations. RESULTS Health outcomes such as nutritional problems in children and pregnant women were concentrated among the poor, while others such as high-relevance health conditions were similar for poorest and richest households. The concentration indexes for health outcomes suggested that income makes the distribution pro-poor. However, the opposite was true for age, in which the probability of health problems among rich individuals increased with age. The concentration curves for utilization of healthcare services showed that dental visits, laboratory exams, specialty visits, and hospitalizations were concentrated on the richest households, while the use of emergency services and preventive medicine were highly concentrated among poor individuals. CONCLUSIONS Although a positive trend in the increase of healthcare service use among income groups was observed, a significant impact of the latest health reform was not observed.

Abstract
The thiazolidinedione 49 (TD49) is an effective algaecide against harmful algae; however, its potential effects on the immune function of the edible bay scallop are unclear. Therefore, the present work studied the effects of TD49 on the immune response in bay scallop by evaluating activities of acid phosphatase (ACP), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), as well as nitric oxide (NO) levels, total protein content, and expression of immune genes (CTL-6, PGRP, PrxV, MT, and Cu/Zn-SOD) at 3–48 h post-exposure (hpe) to TD49. The activities of ACP and ALP significantly increased in TD49-treated groups at 3–24 hpe, whereas NO levels decreased significantly in 0.58 and 0.68 μM of TD49 at 6–24 hpe, after which the level was similar to that in the untreated control. Moreover, SOD activity significantly increased in all three concentration groups at 3–6 hpe, while it decreased at 12 hpe in the 0.68 μM TD49 treatment group. Notably, total protein content increased with TD49 treatment at each time interval. The results revealed that variable effects on the expression of immune-related genes were observed after treatment with TD49. The findings demonstrate that exposure of scallops to TD49 changes immune responses and expression of immune-related genes. We hypothesize that TD49 may disrupt immune system in bay scallop. The current investigation highlights the potential negative effects of using TD49 as an algaecide on marine economic bivalves to control harmful algal blooms in marine environments.

Abstract
MiRNAs are small, non-coding RNAs that downregulate gene expression at post-transcriptional levels. They have emerged as important regulators involved in metabolism, immunity, and cancer. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) is an effective and main method for quantifying target miRNA. For robust RT-qPCR method, suitable reference genes play crucial roles in data normalization. Blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) is an economically important aquaculture species; however, no reference genes dedicated for qPCR method has been identified for this species so far. The objective of this study was to screen stable reference genes for miRNA RT-qPCR and demonstrated its application in energy metabolism in blunt snout bream. The stabilities of ten potential reference genes (miR-21-1-5p, miR-107a-3p, miR-222a-3p, miR-146a-5p, miR-101a-3p, miR-22a-3p, miR-103-3p, miR-456-3p, miR-221-3p, and U6 (RNU6A)) were evaluated in nine tissues (brain, muscle, liver, skin, spleen, heart, gill, intestine, and eye) under normal condition and in three tissues (liver, intestine, and spleen) under four stresses (heat stress, ammonia stress, bacterial challenge, and glycolipid stress). Using GeNorm, NormFinder, and RefFinder softwares, we discovered that different tissues and stresses are both important variability factors for the expression stability of miRNAs. After verifying miR-34a/Sirtuin-1 expressions in high-carbohydrate diet-induced blunt snout bream, we eventually identified that the most stable reference gene in this species was miR-221-3p, and the best combination of reference genes were miR-221-3p and miR-103-3p.

Abstract
Vibrio coralliilyticus infects a variety of shellfish larvae, including Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) larvae worldwide, and remains a major constraint in marine bivalve aquaculture practice, especially in artificial seed production facilities. In this study, we isolated and characterized the bacteriophage (phage) that specifically infects V. coralliilyticus. The phage was designated pVco-14 and classified as Siphoviridae. We also investigated the potential efficacy of the isolated phage against V. coralliilyticus infection. We conducted a survey to replace the overuse of antibiotics, which generate multi-antibiotic-resistant strains and causes environmental pollution. The latent period of pVco-14 was estimated to be approximately 30 min, whereas the burst size was 13.3 PFU/cell. The phage was found to infect four strains of tested V. coralliilyticus. pVco-14 was stable at wide temperature (4-37 °C) and pH (5.0-9.0) ranges. Eighty-one percent of oyster larvae died in an immersion challenge at a dose 1.32 × 105 CFU/ml of virulent V. coralliilyticus (strain 58) within 24 h. When oyster larvae were pre-treated with the phage before the bacterial challenge (bacterial conc.: 1.32 × 104 and 1.32 × 105 CFU/ml), mortality of the phage-treated oyster larvae was lower than that of the untreated control. These results suggest that pVco-14 has potential to be used as a prophylactic agent for preventing V. coralliilyticus infection in marine bivalve hatcheries and can reduce the overuse of antibiotics.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the involvement of the endocytosis of occludin, a key component of tight junction (TJ), in the ethanol-induced disassembly of TJ in a model of alcoholic steatohepatitis. METHODS Wild-type mice were fed an ethanol-containing or isocaloric liquid diet for 8 weeks and then assessed for liver injury (histopathology and measurement of serum enzymes), gut permeability (in vivo lactulose/mannitol and ex vivo dye leakage assays), intestinal epithelium ultrastructure (transmission electron microscopy), and intestinal occludin localization (immunofluorescence microscopy). The human intestinal epithelial cell line Caco-2 was also analyzed in vitro for the effects of ethanol on the barrier function (transepithelial electrical resistance), occludin localization (immunofluorescence microscopy and Western blotting), and endocytosis pathways (double-labeling immunofluorescence microscopy with selective pathway inhibitors). RESULTS The ethanol-fed mice developed steatohepatitis and displayed intestinal barrier dysfunction, the disruption of intestinal TJ, and enhanced intestinal endocytosis of occluding compared with the control mice. In the Caco-2 monolayers, ethanol treatment decreased transepithelial electrical resistance, disrupted TJ formation, and enhanced occludin endocytosis in a dose- and time-dependent manner. These deleterious events were reversed by pretreating the Caco-2 cells with a selective pharmacological inhibitor of macropinocytosis, but not with the inhibitors of clathrin or caveolin-mediated endocytic pathways. CONCLUSION Chronic ethanol exposure may increase intestinal permeability by inducing the micropinocytosis of occludin, resulting in the disruption of intestinal TJ.

Abstract
Immunization by bath immersion is likely the simplest method of fish vaccination. Although the route of immunogenicity has not been fully identified, immersion vaccination is clearly a useful labor-saving technique. In this study, microbubble (MB) treatment was assessed for its ability to improve the efficacy of bath immersion vaccination in the cyprinid loach. MBs are commonly defined as minute particles of gas with a diameter of less than 100 μm, which generated free radicals. Here, the efficacy of MB treatment for vaccination enhancement in the cyprinid loach was assessed in direct challenge experiments using the virulent Aeromonas hydrophila JUNAH strain; assessments comprised agglutination titer assay and non-specific parameter analysis. Agglutination titers were high in loaches that were immunized via injection with inactivated cells (FKC group); however, non-specific immune activation parameters (e.g., lysozyme, superoxide dismutase, and phagocytic activity) were more increased in loaches that were immunized via bath immersion with MB treatment. Moreover, MB-treated loaches showed comparable survival rates, relative to loaches immunized via injection with formalin inactivated cells. Thus, higher levels of non-specific immune parameters suggest increased efficacy of this vaccine approach. Improving the effectiveness of bath immersion vaccine will increase its affordability and ease of application in aquaculture.

Abstract
Photoprotection is an important strategy adopted by plants to avoid photoinhibition under stress conditions. However, the way in which photoprotection is regulated is not fully understood. Here, we demonstrate that tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) mutants of brassinosteroid (BR) biosynthesis (dwf) and related signaling through BRASSINAZOLE-RESISTANT1 (bzr1) are more sensitive to (PSII and PSI photoinhibition, with decreased cyclic electron flow around PSI and lower nonphotochemical quenching, accumulation of PSII subunit S (PsbS), violaxanthin deepoxidase (VDE) activity, and D1 protein abundance. Chilling induced the accumulation of active BRs and activated BZR1, which directly activates the transcription of RESPIRATORY BURST OXIDASE HOMOLOG1 (RBOH1) and hydrogen peroxide production in the apoplast. While apoplastic hydrogen peroxide is essential for the induction of PROTON GRADIENT REGULATION5 (PGR5)-dependent cyclic electron flow, PGR5 participates in the regulation of chilling- and BR-dependent induction of nonphotochemical quenching, accumulation of D1, VDE, and PsbS proteins, transcription of genes involved in redox signaling, hormone signaling, and activity of several antioxidant enzymes. Mutations in BZR1 and PGR5 or suppressed transcription of RBOH1 compromised chilling- and BR-induced photoprotection, resulting in increased sensitivity to photoinhibition. These results demonstrate that BRs act as a positive regulator of photoprotection in a redox-PGR5-dependent manner in response to chilling stress in tomato.

Abstract
Thiazolidinedione 49 (TD49), a newly synthesized algicide, shows strong toxicity at low concentrations of 0.1-2.0 μM. However, its potential effects on non-target species at the transcript level were not investigated. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the gills of the bay scallop, Argopecten irradians, were accessed after treatment with 0.68 μM TD49 for up to 48 h. Following exposure, it was observed that 5214 genes were upregulated and 3497 were downregulated. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that the apoptosis pathway was activated. The extrinsic apoptosis pathway was activated and the survival factors related pathway was suppressed. Furthermore, gene expressions related to ATP-binding cassette, nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor, B cell lymphoma-2 family protein, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase, NADPH2:quinone reductase, and superoxide dismutase were decreased. Conversely, gene expressions related to FAS-associated death domain protein, glutathione S-transferase, caspase 6, 8, cytochrome P450 1A1, and 2C8 were increased. These results comprehensively demonstrated the toxicity of the novel algicide TD49, and should draw the attention of researchers to the importance of analyzing the potential impact of chemical compounds as algicides to control the proliferation of harmful algae, due to the secondary pollution caused by their application.

Abstract
Recent years, micoRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported to be critical regulators to influence tumor genesis or further progression by directly targeting downstream tumor related genes in glioma. However, there're still many underlying mechanisms related to miRNAs signaling pathway remain to be uncovered in glioma. In the present study, we found that miR-342-3p and miR-377 inhibited the glioma cell line proliferation and arrested the cell cycle at G1 phase. Inhibition of the function of miR-342-3p and miR-377 promoted the cell proliferation. miR-342-3p and miR-377 target the E2F1 3'UTR to repress its expression on both mRNA and protein level. Downregulation of E2F1 inhibited the cell proliferation and arrested the cell cycle. Overexpression of E2F1 blocked the proliferation repression caused by miR-342-3p or miR-377 in glioma cells. This study showed the function of miR-342-3p, miR-377/E2F1 axis in regulating glioma cells proliferation and provided the potential therapeutic target.

Abstract
We investigated the effects of icariin (ICA) on growth performance, antioxidant capacity and non-specific immunity in Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis). A total of 200 healthy crabs (average weight: 33.58 ± 0.05 g) were randomly assigned to four treatments with five replicates, each with ten individuals per pool. There were four dietary treatments: the control group (fed with the basal diet), the ICA 50 group, the ICA100 group, and the ICA 200 group (fed with the basal diet supplemented with 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg ICA, respectively). These diets were provided for 8 weeks. Results indicated that ICA100 crabs had higher weight gain (WG), specific growth rate (SGR) and survival rate (SR) than the controls. Protein carbonyl content (PCC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations in the haemolymph and hepatopancreas of ICA100 crabs were significantly lower than in the control group, while the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities were significantly higher. The activities of PO, LZM, ACP and AKP were significantly enhanced with ICA supplementation at 50 and 100 mg/kg, yet decreased subsequently at 200 mg/kg. Furthermore, supplementation of 100 mg/kg ICA up-regulated the mRNA expression of prophenoloxidase (proPO), catalase (CAT), mitochondrial manganese superoxide dismutase (mtMnSOD), thioredoxin-1 (Trx1) and peroxiredoxin 6 (Prx6), while the mRNA expression of toll like receptors (TLRs), NF-κB-like transcription factor Relish and lipopolysaccharide-induced TNF-α factor (LITAF) were down-regulated in the hepatopancreas (P < 0.05). These findings indicate that dietary ICA supplementation at an optimum dose of 100 mg/kg may be effective in improving growth performance, antioxidant capability and non-specific immunity of Chinese mitten crab.

Abstract
Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a well-known tumor marker of hepatic carcinoma and yolk sac tumor. Alpha-fetoprotein producing gastric carcinoma (AFPGC) is a rare type of gastric cancer with high malignancy and poor prognosis, which make it different from other types of gastric cancer. This rare gastric cancer patient subgroup is likely frequently misdiagnosed which may be related to lack of knowledge of the disease. The purpose of this article is to summarize the mechanism of AFP positive gastric cancer, classification, biological behavior and treatment, in order to assist clinical practitioners to detect AFPGC earlier and treat it better. Previous studies have showed that AFPGC has a complex pathophysiology mechanism. AFPGC is more aggressive and characterized by stronger proliferation, neovascularization, lymphatic invasion and distant metastasis. Furthermore, so far there has been no standard treatment for patients with AFPGC. Nevertheless, our present study summarizes some effective treatments based on previous research outcome. In conclusion, the present study demonstrates that the importance of detecting AFP routinely in serum and tissues in gastric cancer cases, which will greatly improve the diagnosis rate of AFPGC, and in regards to treatment, surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and interventional treatment may have positive impacts on AFPGC treatment outcome. However, further study with a larger sample is required to confirm the reliability and validity of these methods.

Abstract
PURPOSE Low birth weight (LBW) infants have a less diverse gut microbiota, enriched in potential pathogens, which places them at high risk of systemic inflammation diseases. This study aimed to identify the differences in gut bacterial community structure between LBW infants who received probiotics and LBW infants who did not receive probiotics. METHODS Forty-one infants were allocated to the non-probiotic group (N group) and 56 infants to the probiotic group (P group), according to whether the formula they received contained a probiotic Bifidobacterium lactis. Gut bacterial composition was identified with sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene in fecal samples collected at 14 days after birth. RESULTS There was no significant difference between the alpha diversity of the two groups, while the beta diversity was significantly different (p < 0.05). Our results showed that Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus (both p < 0.05) were enriched in the P group, while Veillonella, Dolosigranulum and Clostridium sensu stricto 1 (all p < 0.05) were enriched in the N group. Predicted metagenome function analysis revealed enhancement of fatty acids, peroxisome, starch, alanine, tyrosine and peroxisome pathways in the P group, and enhancement of plant pathogen, Salmonella and Helicobacter pylori infection pathways in the N group. CONCLUSIONS Probiotic supplement in formula may affect the composition, stability and function of LBW infants' gut microbiota. LBW infants who receive probiotic intervention may benefit from gut microbiota that contains more beneficial bacteria.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION Are higher overall and central adiposity associated with reduced fecundability, measured by time-to-pregnancy (TTP), in Asian women? SUMMARY ANSWER Higher overall adiposity, but not central adiposity, was associated with longer TTP in Asian women. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY High body mass index (BMI) has been associated with a longer TTP, although the associations of body composition and distribution with TTP are less clear. There are no previous studies of TTP in Asian women, who have a relatively higher percentage of body fat and abdominal fat at relatively lower BMI. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION Prospective preconception cohort using data from 477 Asian (Chinese, Malay and Indian) women who were planning to conceive and enrolled in the Singapore PREconception Study of long-Term maternal and child Outcomes (S-PRESTO) study, 2015-2017. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Women's mean age was 30.7 years. Overall adiposity was assessed by BMI, sum of 4-site skinfold thicknesses (SFT) and total body fat percentage (TBF%, measured using air displacement plethysmography); central adiposity was assessed by waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and A body Shape Index (ABSI). Pregnancy occurring within one year from recruitment was ascertained by ultrasonography. Those who did not conceive within one year of recruitment, were lost to follow-up, or initiated fertility treatment were censored. TTP was measured in cycles. Discrete-time proportional hazards models were used to estimate the fecundability ratio (FR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for each anthropometric measure in association with fecundability, adjusting for confounders. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Compared to women with a normal BMI of 18.5-22.9 kg/m2, women with higher BMI of 23-27.4 and ≥27.5 kg/m2 showed lower FR of 0.66 (95% CI 0.45, 0.97) and 0.53 (0.31, 0.89), respectively. Compared to women in the lowest quartile of SFT (25-52.9 mm), those in the highest quartile of ≥90.1 mm showed lower FR of 0.58 (95% CI 0.36, 0.95). Compared to women in the lowest quartile of TBF% (13.6-27.2%), those in the upper two quartiles of 33.0-39.7% and ≥39.8% showed lower FR of 0.56 (95% CI 0.32, 0.98) and 0.43 (0.24, 0.80), respectively. Association of high BMI with reduced fecundability was particularly evident among nulliparous women. Measures of central adiposity (WC, WHR, WHtR, ABSI) were not associated with fecundability. LIMITATIONS REASONS FOR CAUTION Small sample size could restrict power of analysis.The analysis was confined to planned pregnancies, which could limit generalizability of findings to non-planned pregnancies, estimated at around 44% in Singapore. Information on the date of last menstrual period for each month was not available, hence the accuracy of self-reported menstrual cycle length could not be validated, potentially introducing error into TTP estimation. Measures of exposures and covariates such as cycle length were not performed repeatedly over time; cycle length might have changed during the period before getting pregnant. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Other than using BMI as the surrogate measure of body fat, we provide additional evidence showing that higher amounts of subcutaneous fat that based on the measure of SFT at the sites of biceps, triceps, suprailiac and subscapular, and TBF% are associated with longer TTP. Achieving optimal weight and reducing total percentage body fat may be a potential intervention target to improve female fertility. The null results observed between central adiposity and TTP requires confirmation in further studies. Abstract
Establishment of low birth weight (LBW) infant gut microbiota may have lifelong implications for the health of individuals. However, no longitudinal cohort studies have been conducted to characterize the gut microbial profiles of LBW infants and their influencing factors. Our objective was to understand how the gut bacterial community structure of LBW and normal birth weight (NBW) infants varies across the first 3 months of life and assess the influencing factors. In this observational cohort study, gut bacterial composition was identified with sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene in fecal samples of 69 LBW infants and 65 NBW controls at 0 day, 3 days, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 3 months (defined as stages 1–5) after birth. Alpha-diversity of both groups displayed a decreasing trend followed by slight variations. There were significant differences on the Shannon index of the two groups at stages 1 to 3 (P = 0.041, P = 0.032, and P = 0.014, respectively). The microbiota community structure of LBW infants were significantly different from NBW infants throughout the 3 months (all P < 0.05) but not at stage 2 (P = 0.054). There was a significant increase in abundance in Firmicutes while a decrease in Proteobacteria, and at genus level the abundance of Enterococcus, Klebsiella, and Streptococcus increased while it decreased for Haemophilus in LBW group. Birth weight was the main factor explaining the observed variation at all stages, except at stage 2. Delivery mode (4.78%) and antibiotic usage (3.50%) contributed to explain the observed variation at stage 3, and pregestational BMI (4.61%) partially explained the observed variation at stage 4. In conclusion, gut microbial communities differed in NBW and LBW infants from birth to 3 months of life, and were affected by birth weight, delivery mode, antibiotic treatment, and pregestational BMI.

Abstract
Since November 2017, mass mortalities of larvae of bay scallop (Argopecten irradians) were reported in hatcheries located at the southern area of Republic of Korea. Over 90% of larvae aged 5-10 days sank to the bottom of the tank and died. The hatcheries could not produce spat, and thus artificial seed production industry incurred huge losses. We identified Ostreid Herpesvirus-1 μVar (OsHV-1 μVar) associated with mass mortality by PCR, sequencing and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). All the samples were positive for OsHV-1 μVar with 99% sequence identity to previously reported OsHV-1 μVar sequences. Partial sequence of ORF-4 of OsHV-1 detected in this study was more closely related to sequences isolated from Europe. This is the first report to confirm the mortality caused by an OsHV-1 infection in the bay scallop.

Abstract
Due to the significant role of the periosteum in bone regeneration, we fabricated a novel twin-fiber membrane with antibacterial and osteo-inductive properties as an artificial periosteum by a double spinneret electrospinning method. The antibacterial drug moxifloxacin (MOX) and Chinese medicine icariin (ICA) were introduced into PCL/gelatin and PCL micro/nano fibers respectively to endow the membrane with antibacterial and osteoinduction properties. The twin-fiber structure membrane not only acted as carriers for two different drugs with drastically different solubility in the same fiber membrane, but also achieved stepwise and controlled drug release profiles based on different degradation rates of the two fibers matrix and diffusion rates of the two drugs. Most importantly, only 35% ICA was released out from this dual drug loaded membrane after 1 month and such slow release rate would match with the bone regeneration rate which can hardly be achieved by other drug delivery system. Besides, this dual drug loaded twin-fiber membrane exhibited clear antibacterial effect and excellent in vitro biocompatibility for cells to adhere to and proliferate on. Furthermore, an obvious up-regulation of osteocalcin (OCN), type I collagen (COLI) expression and calcium deposition of MC3T3-E1 cells demonstrated the improved osteogenic differentiation capability. Also, the dual drug loaded twin-fiber membrane displayed fascinating properties contributing to new bone formation in rabbit radius defect model. These results indicate the huge potential of this dual drug loaded twin-fiber membrane as an effective drug release controller and biomimetic multifunctional artificial periosteum to accelerate bone regeneration.
