Abstract
Introduction Vaccine hesitancy, amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, is a pressing public health challenge. This study investigates the association between Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) preference and COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy within China. Methods The study uses data from the 2021 Chinese General Social Survey (CGSS) (N = 2,690). Logistic regressions and Karlson-Holm-Breen (KHB) method are employed to analyzed the relationship between TCM preference and vaccine hesitancy. Results The study reaffirms prior findings by revealing a robust and stable association between TCM preference and vaccine hesitancy, which remains unaffected by socioeconomic and demographic confounders, as well as institutional trust dynamics of healthcare system. Contrary to expectations, TCM enthusiasts do not exhibit vaccine hesitancy based on divergent epistemological views concerning vaccine risks and immunity acquisition compared to biomedicine. Discussion This research enriches understandings of the intricate relations between healthcare paradigms and vaccine attitudes, inviting further inquiry into the role of CAM in shaping vaccination behaviors across different cultures and contexts. The insights bear significant public health implications for enhancing vaccine acceptance and coverage, particularly among populations where CAM practices wield substantial influence.

Abstract
The giant panda, a strict herbivore that feeds on bamboo, still retains a typical carnivorous digestive system. Reference catalogs of microbial genes and genomes are lacking, largely limiting the antibiotic resistome and functional exploration of the giant panda gut microbiome. Here, we integrated 177 fecal metagenomes of captive and wild giant pandas to construct a giant panda integrated gene catalog (GPIGC) comprised of approximately 4.5 million non-redundant genes and reconstruct 393 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs). Taxonomic and functional characterization of genes revealed that the captivity of the giant panda significantly changed the core microbial composition and the distribution of microbial genes. Higher abundance and prevalence of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) were detected in the guts of captive giant pandas, and ARG distribution was influenced by geography, for both captive and wild individuals. Escherichia, as the prevalent genus in the guts of captive giant pandas, was the main carrier of ARGs, meaning there is a high risk of ARG transmission by Escherichia. We also found that multiple mcr gene variants, conferring plasmid-mediated mobile colistin resistance, were widespread in the guts of captive and wild giant pandas. There were low proportions of carbohydrate-active enzyme (CAZyme) genes in GPIGC and MAGs compared with several omnivorous and herbivorous mammals. Many members of Clostridium MAGs were significantly enriched in the guts of adult, old and wild giant pandas. The genomes of isolates and MAGs of Clostridiaceae harbored key genes or enzymes in complete pathways for degrading lignocellulose and producing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), indicating the potential of these bacteria to utilize the low-nutrient bamboo diet. Overall, our data presented an exhaustive reference gene catalog and MAGs in giant panda gut and provided a comprehensive understanding of the antibiotic resistome and microbial adaptability for a high-lignocellulose diet.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Taking folic acid supplementation could reduce the risk of neural tube defects for offspring in the maternal periconceptional period, but the relationship between folic acid use and other birth defects remains unclear, such as genitourinary system birth defects. METHODS The data from a Prenatal Health Care System and Birth Defects Surveillance System in Tongzhou, Beijing, China, were collected from 2013 to 2018. We adjusted for differences in characteristics between comparison groups using propensity score inverse probability weighting and assessed associations with Poisson regression modeling. RESULTS A total of 65,418 live births and stillbirths were included, and there were 194 cases with congenital genitourinary defects among them. The prevalence of genitourinary system birth defects was 29.2 (34.9) per 10,000 for FA/MMFA users (nonusers). Compared to nonusers, FA/MMFA users had a lower risk for genitourinary system birth defects (adjusted risk ratio [aRR] 0.81, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.67, 0.98), and for hypospadias (aRR 0.55, 95% CI 0.40, 0.76). CONCLUSIONS FA or MMFA supplementation during the maternal periconceptional period could reduce the risk for genitourinary system birth defects in offspring. More mechanisms should be explored for the protective effect. IMPACT Folic acid (FA) or multiple micronutrients containing folic acid (MMFA) supplementation during the maternal periconceptional period could reduce the risk for genitourinary system birth defects in offspring. Maternal FA/MMFA supplementation during the periconceptional period may reduce the risk for hypospadias.

Abstract
RESEARCH QUESTION Are blastocysts derived from in-vitro-matured metaphase I (MI) oocytes less likely to produce usable embryos for transfer compared with those derived from in-vivo-matured oocytes in cycles undergoing preimplantation genetic testing (PGT)? DESIGN The primary outcome was usable blastocyst rate, which was compared between blastocysts derived from in-vitro-matured MI oocytes after ovarian stimulation and from in-vivo-matured oocytes. Logistic regression analysis using generalized estimating equations was used to control for confounders in the analysis of factors that may influence the chance of a blastocyst being usable and in the comparison of embryological outcomes. Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, chi-squared tests or Fisher's exact tests were used to compare clinical and pregnancy outcomes. RESULTS A total of 1810 injected metaphase II (MII) oocytes from 154 PGT cycles involving 154 couples were included in this study. A total of 1577 MII oocytes were in-vivo-matured and 233 were in-vitro-matured MI oocytes. The usable blastocyst rate was similar between the in-vitro-matured MI oocyte group and the in-vivo-matured oocyte group (adjusted RR 0.97, 95% CI 0.40 to 2.34). Three live births were achieved using usable blastocysts derived from in-vitro-matured MI oocytes. CONCLUSIONS If in-vitro-matured MI oocytes can be fertilized and develop into blastocysts, their ability to provide usable embryos for transfer is similar compared with those developed from in-vivo-matured oocytes. These blastocysts could be considered valuable for women with few viable embryos in assisted reproductive technology cycles.

Abstract
Pyruvate kinase (PK) is the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of phosphoenolpyruvate and adenosine diphosphate to pyruvate and adenosine triphosphate in glycolysis and plays a crucial role in regulating cell metabolism. We describe the structure-based design of AG-946, an activator of PK isoforms, including red blood cell-specific forms of PK (PKR). This was designed to have a pseudo-C2-symmetry matching its allosteric binding site on the PK enzyme, which increased its potency toward PKR while reducing activity against off-targets observed from the original scaffold. AG-946 (1) demonstrated activation of human wild-type PK (half-maximal activation concentration [AC50 ]=0.005 μM) and a panel of mutated PK proteins (K410E [AC50 =0.0043 μM] and R510Q [AC50 =0.0069 μM]), (2) displayed a significantly longer half-time of activation (>150-fold) compared with 6-(3-methoxybenzyl)-4-methyl-2-(methylsulfinyl)-4,6-dihydro-5H-thieno[2',3':4,5]pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyridazin-5-one, and (3) stabilized PKR R510Q, an unstable mutant PKR enzyme, and preserved its catalytic activity under increasingly denaturing conditions. As a potent, oral, small-molecule allosteric activator of wild-type and mutant PKR, AG-946 was advanced to human clinical trials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the changes in serum Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) and Soluble Growth Stimulating Expressed Gene 2 Protein (sST2) among Heart Failure (HF) patients with varying ejection fractions and their clinical significance, providing a reference for the clinical assessment of HF severity. METHODS A total of 238 HF patients treated in our hospital's cardiology department from September 2019 to December 2021 were selected; 68 patients hospitalized in the same period were selected as the control group. General information, LDL-C and echocardiographic results of admitted patients were collected. According to LVEF results and the latest European Society of Cardiology standards in 2021, HF patients were categorized into those with HFpEF (n = 95), HFmrEF (n = 60), and HFrEF (n = 83). Meanwhile, venous blood was collected to determine sST2 and NT-proBNP to compare and analyze the changes and clinical significance of sST2 and LDL-C across the groups. RESULTS Compared to the control group, the HF group showed significant differences in age, gender, heart rate, smoking history, history of atrial fibrillation, history of diabetes, LVEDD, LVEF, sST2, and NT-proBNP levels (P < .05), but not in LDL-C levels. Significant differences (P < .05) were also found among the 3 HF groups in terms of age, gender, history of atrial fibrillation, LVEDD, LVEF, LDL-C, sST2, and NT-proBNP levels, with an increase in LVEDD, LDL-C, sST2, and NT-proBNP values as the ejection fraction decreased. ROC curve analysis indicated that the area under the curve (AUC) for sST2 in diagnosing HF was 0.915 (P < .05), with an optimal cutoff value of 23.71 ng/mL, a sensitivity of 76.5%, and a specificity of 95.6%; LDL-C was not a significant diagnostic marker for HF (P > .05). Coronary artery disease, NT-proBNP, and sST2 were identified as risk factors for HF. With each unit increase in coronary artery disease, the risk of HF increased by 36.3%; for NT-proBNP, the risk increased by 1.3% per unit; and for sST2, it increased by 18.3% per unit. CONCLUSION As the ejection fraction decreases in HF patients, serum sST2 and LDL-C values progressively increase, which is clinically significant for predicting the severity of HF. sST2 is an independent risk factor for HF and can enhance the diagnostic accuracy for HF.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Targeting CD47/SIRPα axis has emerged as a promising strategy in cancer immunotherapy. Despite the encouraging clinical efficacy observed in hematologic malignancies through CD47-SIRPα blockade, there are safety concerns related to the binding of anti-CD47 antibodies to CD47 on the membrane of peripheral blood cells. METHODS In order to enhance the selectivity and therapeutic efficacy of the antibody, we developed a humanized anti-CD47 monoclonal antibody called Gentulizumab (GenSci059). The binding capacity of GenSci059 to CD47 was evaluated using flow cytometry and surface plasmon resonance (SPR) methods, the inhibitory effect of GenSci059 on the CD47-SIRPα interaction was evaluated through competitive ELISA assays. The anti-tumor activity of GenSci059 was assessed using in vitro macrophage models and in vivo patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models. To evaluate the safety profile of GenSci059, binding assays were conducted using blood cells. Additionally, we investigated the underlying mechanisms contributing to the weaker binding of GenSci059 to erythrocytes. Finally, toxicity studies were performed in non-human primates to assess the potential risks associated with GenSci059. RESULTS GenSci059 displayed strong binding to CD47 in both human and monkey, and effectively inhibited the CD47-SIRPα interaction. With doses ranging from 5 to 20 mg/kg, GenSci059 demonstrated potent inhibition of the growth of subcutaneous tumor with the inhibition rates ranged from 30.3% to complete regression. Combination of GenSci059 with 2.5 mg/kg Rituximab at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg showed enhanced tumor inhibition compared to monotherapy, exhibiting synergistic effects. GenSci059 exhibited minimal binding to hRBCs compared to Hu5F9-G4. The binding of GenSci059 to CD47 depended on the cyclization of N-terminal pyroglutamic acid and the spatial conformation of CD47, but was not affected by its glycosylation modifications. A maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of 450 mg/kg was observed for GenSci059, and no significant adverse effects were observed in repeated dosages up to 10 + 300 mg/kg, indicating a favorable safety profile. CONCLUSION GenSci059 selectively binds to CD47, effectively blocks the CD47/SIRPα axis signaling pathway and enhances the phagocytosis effects of macrophages toward tumor cells. This monoclonal antibody demonstrates potent antitumor activity and exhibits a favorable safety profile, positioning it as a promising and effective therapeutic option for cancer.

Abstract
We present the design of a low-cost, portable telecentric digital holographic microscope (P-TDHM) that utilizes off-the-shelf components. We describe the system's hardware and software elements and evaluate its performance by imaging samples ranging from nano-printed targets to live HeLa cells, HEK293 cells, and Dolichospermum via both in-line and off-axis modes. Our results demonstrate that the system can acquire high quality quantitative phase images with nanometer axial and sub-micron lateral resolution in a small form factor, making it a promising candidate for resource-limited settings and remote locations. Our design represents a significant step forward in making telecentric digital holographic microscopy accessible and affordable to the broader community.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES To assess the vitamin D nutritional status (VDN) of pregnant women in early pregnancy and investigate the effects of periconceptional supplementation with multiple micronutrients (MMs) on this status. METHODS AND STUDY DESIGN Data were taken from the Pregnancy Health Care System and Hospital Information System in 2018 in Beijing. Vitamin D nutritional status in early pregnancy was evaluated among 4,978 pregnant women, and 4,540 women who took folic acid only (FA) or multiple mi-cronutrients supplements (MM) during the periconceptional period, were include to estimate the associations between periconceptional supplementation with MM and prevalence of vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency with logistic regression model. RESULTS The mean early-pregnancy vitamin D concentration was 18.6 (±7.5) ng/mL, and the rates of deficiency and insufficiency were 31.6% and 60.5%, respectively. Compared to the FA group, the adjusted odds ratio (aOR, 95%confidence interval, CI) for insufficiency or deficiency of the MM group were 0.25(0.18-0.34), and the aOR (95%CI) for deficiency of the MM group were 0.17 (0.12-0.23). Women who took MMs for a longer period of time, at higher frequencies, and with higher compliance scores had lower rates of deficiency and insufficiency. In winter, spring, and autumn, taking MMs could reduce deficiency by about 70%; in summer, there was little effect. CONCLUSIONS Among women in Beijing, serum concentrations of vitamin D in early pregnancy are relatively low, and the rates of deficiency and insufficiency are high. Taking MMs during the periconceptional period could improve this situation.

Abstract
We predict novel topological phases with broken time-reversal symmetry supporting the coexistence of opposite chiral edge states, which are fundamentally different from the photonic spin-Hall, valley-Hall, and higher-order topological phases. We find a fine-grained categorization of Chern insulators, their band topologies characterized by identical Chern numbers are completely different. Furthermore, we prove that different topologies cause zeros in their Bloch wave function overlaps, which imprint the band gap closing and appear at the degenerate points of topological phase transition. The Bloch wave function overlaps predict the reflection and refraction at a topological time boundary, and the overlap zeros ensure the existence of vanishing revival amplitude at critical times even though different topologies before and after the time boundary have identical Chern numbers. Our findings create new opportunities for topological metamaterials, uncover the topological feature hidden in the time boundary effect as a probe of topology, and open a venue for the exploration of the rich physics originating from the long-range couplings.

Abstract
Teleoperated robots have attracted significant interest in recent years, and data gloves are one of the commonly used devices for their operation. However, existing solutions still encounter two challenges: the ways in which data gloves capture human operational intentions and achieve accurate mapping. In order to address these challenges, we propose a novel teleoperation method using data gloves based on fuzzy logic controller. Firstly, the data are collected and normalized from the flex sensors on data gloves to identify human manipulation intentions. Then, a fuzzy logic controller is designed to convert finger flexion information into motion control commands for robot arms. Finally, experiments are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness and precision of the proposed method.

Abstract
A diode-pumped wavelength switchable passively Q-switched 2.3 μm Tm:YVO4 laser was demonstrated in this work. A Cr:ZnS saturable absorber was introduced into the cavity for initiating passive Q-switching. With the increase of the absorbed pump power, the passively Q-switched laser could be switched from the single wavelength of 2366 nm to the dual wavelength of 2290 and 2360 nm. The pulse duration and pulse repetition frequency could be tuned in the ranges of 0.745-1.782 μs and 2.9-43.4 kHz, respectively. The pulse energy and peak power were estimated to be 7.5 μJ and 10 W, respectively, at an absorbed pump power of 12 W.

Clinical data of 15 primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) children aged ≤18 years admitted to our hospital between May 2013 to May 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. Our goal was to summarize the clinical features of children and investigate the therapeutic effect of a high-dose methotrexate (HD-MTX) based chemotherapy regimen on this disease. The male-to-female ratio was 2.7∶1, and the median age was 7.2 (2.3-16.4) years at diagnosis. The initial clinical symptoms were primarily cranial hypertension, with imaging findings revealing multiple lesions. Pediatric PCNSL with normal immune function has a favorable prognosis with HD-MTX-based chemotherapy. Patients with a stable disease can be treated with minimal or no maintenance. HD-MTX-based chemotherapy remains effective when the disease progresses or recurs after an initial course of non-HD-MTX-based chemotherapy.

Abstract
In this paper, a new approach involving the use of a mobile manipulator to assist humans with mobility impairments to walk is proposed. First, in order to achieve flexible interaction between humans and mobile manipulators, we propose a variable admittance controller that can adaptively regulate the virtual mass and damping parameters based on the interaction forces and the human motion intention predicted using the fuzzy theory. Moreover, a feedforward velocity compensator based on a designed state observer is proposed to decrease the inertia resistance of the manipulator, effectively enhancing the compliance of the human-robot interaction. Then, the configuration of the mobile manipulator is optimized based on a null-space approach by considering the singularity, force capacity, and deformation induced by gravity. Finally, the proposed assisted walking approach for the mobile manipulator is implemented using the human-robot interaction controller and the null-space controller. The validity of the proposed controllers and the feasibility of assisted human walking are verified by conducting a set of tests involving different human volunteers.

Abstract
Mapping the connectivity of diverse neuronal types provides the foundation for understanding the structure and function of neural circuits. High-throughput and low-cost neuroanatomical techniques based on RNA barcode sequencing have the potential to map circuits at cellular resolution and a brain-wide scale, but existing Sindbis virus-based techniques can only map long-range projections using anterograde tracing approaches. Rabies virus can complement anterograde tracing approaches by enabling either retrograde labeling of projection neurons or monosynaptic tracing of direct inputs to genetically targeted postsynaptic neurons. However, barcoded rabies virus has so far been only used to map non-neuronal cellular interactions in vivo and synaptic connectivity of cultured neurons. Here we combine barcoded rabies virus with single-cell and in situ sequencing to perform retrograde labeling and transsynaptic labeling in the mouse brain. We sequenced 96 retrogradely labeled cells and 295 transsynaptically labeled cells using single-cell RNA-seq, and 4130 retrogradely labeled cells and 2914 transsynaptically labeled cells in situ. We found that the transcriptomic identities of rabies virus-infected cells can be robustly identified using both single-cell RNA-seq and in situ sequencing. By associating gene expression with connectivity inferred from barcode sequencing, we distinguished long-range projecting cortical cell types from multiple cortical areas and identified cell types with converging or diverging synaptic connectivity. Combining in situ sequencing with barcoded rabies virus complements existing sequencing-based neuroanatomical techniques and provides a potential path for mapping synaptic connectivity of neuronal types at scale.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the association of melatonin receptor 1B (MTNR1B) gene variations and pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). MATERIALS AND METHOD In this study, 1566 Chinese Han pregnant women were enrolled and multiple genetic models were used to evaluate the association between MTNR1B gene polymorphisms and the risk of GDM. The clinical value of pre-pregnancy BMI in predicting GDM was analyzed and evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Several methods of analysis were used to examine the impact of gene-gene and gene-BMI interactions on the incidence of GDM influence. RESULTS For the MTNR1B gene, rs1387153 (C > T), rs10830962 (C > G), rs4753426 (T > C), and rs10830963 (C > G) are all risk mutations associated with the susceptibility of GDM. The ROC curve analysis indicated that the BMI demonstrated an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.595. Alongside, the sensitivity and specificity stood at 0.676 and 0.474 respectively. The maximum Joden index was found to be 0.150, with a corresponding critical BMI value of 20.5691 kg/m2. Interaction analysis revealed that gene-gene and gene-BMI interactions had no significant effect on GDM occurrence. CONCLUSION MTNR1B genetic variations confers the risk to GDM in Chinese women. Furthermore, the high pre-pregnancy BMI (≥20.5691 kg/m2) significantly increases the risk of GDM in Chinese women.

Abstract
Compared to radical oxidative pathway, recent research revealed that non-radical oxidative pathway has higher selectivity, higher adaptability and lower oxidant requirement. In this work, we have designed and synthesized Cu2O/Cu nanowires (CuNWs), by pyrolysis of copper chloride and urea, to selectively generate high-valent copper (CuIII) upon H2O2 activation for the efficient treatment of actual glyphosate wastewater. The detailed characterizations confirmed that CuNWs nanocomposite was comprised of Cu0 and Cu2O, which possessed a nanowire-shaped structure. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis, in situ Raman spectra, chronoamperometry and liner sweep voltammetry (LSV) verified CuIII, which mainly contributed to glyphosate degradation, was selectively generated from CuNWs/H2O2 system. In particular, CuI is mainly oxidized by H2O2 into CuIIIvia dual-electron transfer, rather than simultaneously releasing OH• via single electron transfer. More importantly, CuNWs/H2O2 system exhibited the excellent potential in the efficient treatment of actual glyphosate wastewater, with 96.6% degradation efficiency and chemical oxygen demand (COD) dropped by 30%. This novel knowledge gained in the work helps to apply CuNWs into heterogeneous Fenton-like reaction for environmental remediation and gives new insights into non-radical pathway in H2O2 activation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to clarify comprehensively the safety profiles of anti-IL-5 drugs and pinpoint potential safety concerns that may arise in their post-marketing phase. METHODS Two researchers conducted comprehensive searches of PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library from inception to September 2022. Additionally, we investigated the FDA AE Reporting System for post-marketing adverse event (AE) reports related to anti-IL-5 drugs. The outcomes fulfilled the proportional reporting rate criteria and the Bayesian confidence propagation neural network. RESULTS We included 24 published studies in our analysis. The anti-IL-5 treatment group showed an incidence of AEs comparable to the placebo group, and it exhibited a significantly lower frequency of serious AEs. Common AEs were asthma, nasopharyngitis, headache, upper respiratory tract infection (URTI), and bronchitis. The post-marketing data included 28,478 case reports associated with the suspect drugs and 75 suspect safety observations affecting 16 system organ classes. New suspect observations included incomplete therapeutic product effect, URTIs, and pulmonary mass in reports related to mepolizumab. Reports associated with mepolizumab and benralizumab also indicated issues with incorrect technique in device usage and product issues. CONCLUSIONS Individual anti-IL-5 drugs' safety profiles largely matched their product inserts. We identified issues like improper device usage, product issue, and URTIs as potential concerns for mepolizumab and benralizumab. Additionally, all anti-IL-5 drugs showed signs of incomplete therapeutic effects.

Abstract
Thick-shell colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are promising building blocks for solar technologies due to their size/composition/shape-tunable properties. However, most well-performed thick-shell QDs suffer from frequent use of toxic metal elements including Pb and Cd, and inadequate light absorption in the visible and near-infrared (NIR) region due to the wide bandgap of the shell. In this work, eco-friendly AgInSe2 /AgInS2 core/shell QDs, which are optically active in the NIR region and are suitable candidates to fabricate devices for solar energy conversion, are developed. Direct synthesis suffers from simultaneously controlling the reactivity of multiple precursors, instead, a template-assisted cation exchange method is used. By modulating the monolayer growth of template QDs, gradient AgInSeS shell layers are incorporated into AgInSe2 /AgInS2 QDs. The resulting AgInSe2 /AgInSeS/AgInS2 exhibits better charge transfer than AgInSe2 /AgInS2 due to their favorable electronic band alignment, as predicted by first-principle calculations and confirmed by transient fluorescence spectroscopy. The photoelectrochemical cells fabricated with AgInSe2 /AgInSeS/AgInS2 QDs present ≈1.5-fold higher current density and better stability compared to AgInSe2 /AgInS2 . The findings define a promising approach toward multinary QDs and pave the way for engineering the QDs' electronic band structures for solar-energy conversion.

Abstract
Polymorphism (and its extended form - pseudopolymorphism) in solids is ubiquitous in mineralogy, crystallography, chemistry/biochemistry, materials science, and the pharmaceutical industries. Despite the difficulty of controlling (pseudo-)polymorphism, the realization of specific (pseudo-)polymorphic phases and associated boundary structures is an efficient route to enhance material performance for energy conversion and electromechanical applications. Here, this work applies the pseudopolymorphic phase (PP) concept to a thermoelectric copper sulfide, Cu2- x S (x ≤ 0.25), via CuBr2 doping. A peak ZT value of 1.25 is obtained at 773 K in Cu1.8 S + 3 wt% CuBr2 , which is 2.3 times higher than that of a pristine Cu1.8 S sample. Atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy confirms the transformation of pristine Cu1.8 S low digenite into PP-engineered high digenite, as well as the formation of (semi-)coherent interfaces between different PPs, which is expected to enhance phonon scattering. The results demonstrate that PP engineering is an effective approach for achieving improved thermoelectric performance in Cu-S compounds. It is also expected to be useful in other materials.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The semaphorins are membrane or secreted proteins first identified in neural development. Semaphorin 4D (Sema4D) is the first family member found to have immune properties. We evaluated the potential of Sema4D as a marker for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease activity, singly and in combination with other known biomarkers including rheumatoid factor (RF) and C-reactive protein (CRP). METHODS Three hundred and eleven RA patients were enrolled. The patients were divided into three groups based on their disease activity in 28 joints (DAS28): mild, moderate, and severe. The healthy group included 40 healthy individuals. SerumSema4D was measured by quantitative ELISA and the specificity and sensitivity of biomarkers were evaluated by generating a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve to analyze their diagnostic accuracy. RESULTS Serum Sema4D levels in the moderate and severe RA groups were elevated significantly above those of the controls (P < 0.01), while levels in the mild RA and control groups did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). The Sema4D cutoff threshold was 15.7 ng/ml when the DAS28 was applied as a reference. Compared to the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR and CRP, Sema4D had the highest specificity (96.8%) and area under the curve (0.80) for diagnosing RA activity. The highest specificity (100%) for the biomarker combinations was obtained when Sema4D was combined with CRP and anti-CCP, the combination of the Sema4D combined with ESR and anti-CCP had the highest sensitivity (99.35%). According to this result, a new model for jointly calculating RA activity of Sema4D,anti-CCP and CRP was constructed. Meanwhile another model is established by using the method of multivariate analysis.Model comparison results showed the the multiple regression algorithm method fitted the patients' disease activity better. CONCLUSION The serum Sema 4D level effectively reflects moderate to severe RA activity. Sema4D levels can be used together with conventional RA biomarkers to increase the diagnostic power of RA activity. The multiple regression algorithm method is promising in disease activity calculation.

Abstract
Excitability of hippocampal neurons in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) rats has not been well studied. The rat SAH model was applied in this study to explore the role of nuclear factor E2-related factor (Nrf-2) in the early brain injury of SAH. The neural excitability of CA1 pyramidal cells (PCs) in SAH rats was evaluated by using electrophysiology experiments. Ferroptosis and neuroinflammation were measured by ELISA, transmission electron microscopy and western blotting. Our results indicated that SAH induced neurological deficits, brain edema, ferroptosis, neuroinflammation and neural excitability in rats. Ferrostatin-1 treatment significantly decreased the expression and distribution of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, TGF-β and TNF-α. Inhibiting ferroptosis by ferrostatin-1 can attenuate neural excitability, neurological deficits, brain edema and neuroinflammation in SAH rats. Inhibiting the expression of Nrf-2 significantly increased the neural excitability and the levels of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-10, TGF-β and TNF-α in Fer-1-treated SAH rats. Taken together, inhibiting the Nrf-2 induces early brain injury, brain edema and the inflammatory response with increasing of neural excitability in Fer-1-treated SAH rats. These results have indicated that inhibiting ferroptosis, neuroinflammation and neural excitability attenuates early brain injury after SAH by regulating the Nrf-2.

Abstract
PURPOSE The cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) is the most common causative gene attributed to congenital obstructive azoospermia (OA). The aim of this study was to conduct an epidemiological survey of congenital OA patients, to screen for CFTR mutations, and to follow their pregnancy outcomes in assisted reproductive technology (ART). METHODS This cohort study enrolled congenital OA patients undergoing ART and whole-exome sequencing from January 2018 to September 2023. Semen parameters, sex hormones, and seminal plasma biochemistry were evaluated. CFTR mutations identified in OA patients were analyzed. In addition, the laboratory outcomes, clinical outcomes, and neonatal outcomes were compared between OA patients carrying two CFTR mutations and the others after surgical sperm extraction-intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) treatment. RESULTS A total of 76 patients with congenital OA were enrolled. CFTR mutations were identified in 35 (46.1%) congenital OA patients. A total of 60 CFTR mutation sites of 27 types were identified, and 10 of them were novel. The average frequency was 1.71 (60/35) per person. The most common mutation was c.1210-11T > G (25%, 15/60). After ICSI treatment, there were no statistically significant differences in laboratory outcomes, clinical outcomes, and neonatal outcomes between OA patients carrying two CFTR mutations (n = 25) and other OA patients (n = 51). CONCLUSION Apart from the IVS9-5T mutation, the genetic mutation pattern of CFTR in Chinese OA patients is heterogeneous, which is significantly different from that of Caucasians. Although carrying two CFTR mutations or not had no effect on the pregnancy outcomes in OA patients after ICSI, genetic counseling is still recommended for such patients.

Abstract
Rabies-virus-based monosynaptic tracing is a widely used technique for mapping neural circuitry, but its cytotoxicity has confined it primarily to anatomical applications. Here we present a second-generation system for labeling direct inputs to targeted neuronal populations with minimal toxicity, using double-deletion-mutant rabies viruses. Viral spread requires expression of both deleted viral genes in trans in postsynaptic source cells. Suppressing this expression with doxycycline following an initial period of viral replication reduces toxicity to postsynaptic cells. Longitudinal two-photon imaging in vivo indicated that over 90% of both presynaptic and source cells survived for the full 12-week course of imaging. Ex vivo whole-cell recordings at 5 weeks postinfection showed that the second-generation system perturbs input and source cells much less than the first-generation system. Finally, two-photon calcium imaging of labeled networks of visual cortex neurons showed that their visual response properties appeared normal for 10 weeks, the longest we followed them.
