Factor validity of the temperament and character inventory in patients with major depression

Cloninger has proposed a seven-factor psychobiological model of personality and has developed the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) to measure four temperament dimensions and three character dimensions. This theory of personality may be of great importance in developing an integrated understanding of psychosocial and biological processes underlying the etiology and course of depression, and a large number of studies are being carried out using the TCI to determine the pathology of depression. The present study investigated the factor validity of the TCI in 156 mildly to moderately depressed patients with major depression. The results indicate that the TCI is an internally consistent and factor-analytically valid instrument in patients. Although there was some evidence that a state of depression strengthened correlation between harm avoidance and cooperativeness, the proposed factor structure of the TCI appeared, in general, robust against the state effect of depression, when the state was mild to moderate. These results suggested that the TCI has considerable promise as an instrument for characterizing the underlying personality structure of mildly to moderately depressed patients with major depression.

Detection of B virus infection in cynomolgus monkeys by ELISA using simian agent 8 as alternative antigen

The use of simian agent 8 (SA8) as an antigen for B virus (BV) antibody detection was evaluated in cynomolgus monkeys. Seventy-two sera judged as positive using BV antigen were all positive when the SA8 antigen was used. Out of 28 BV-negative sera 2 were positive against the SA8 antigen and one serum was classified as indeterminate. The present data indicates that detection of BV antibody can be achieved accurately and safely by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using SA8 antigen.

Glycemic control reverses increases in urinary excretions of immunoglobulin G and ceruloplasmin in type 2 diabetic patients with normoalbuminuria

To examine whether urinary excretions of plasma proteins with molecular radii of 45-55 A and different isoelectric points such as IgG (pI = 7.4) and ceruloplasmin (pI = 4.4) increase selectively in normoalbuminuric type 2 diabetic patients, urinary albumin excretion rate (AER), renal clearances of IgG, ceruloplasmin and alpha2-macroglobulin, and creatinine clearance (Ccr) were studied in timed overnight urine samples of 36 diabetic outpatients and 16 control subjects. Furthermore, to examine effect of glycemic control on these urinary protein excretions, the same analysis was performed before and after glycemic control in 17 diabetic inpatients admitted for glycemic control. Renal clearances of IgG and ceruloplasmin were significantly higher in diabetic outpatients than in the control group, whereas AER and renal clearance of alpha2-macroglobulin did not differ. Glycemic control caused significant decreases in renal clearances of IgG and ceruloplasmin, accompanied with tendency for Ccr to decrease (p = 0.055). The present results, together with our previous finding of selectively increased urinary excretions of 45-55 A sized plasma proteins in parallel with enhanced glomerular filtration rate after acute protein loading, led us to conclude that enhanced intraglomerular hydraulic pressure may cause increases in clearances of IgG and ceruloplasmin, and that this change can be reversed by strict glycemic control in normoalbuminuric diabetic patients.

Is interpersonal sensitivity specific to non-melancholic depressions?

BACKGROUND

We investigated whether melancholic and non-melancholic Japanese depressive patients differed in regard to a personality feature, interpersonal sensitivity, as measured by the Interpersonal Sensitivity Measure (IPSM).

METHODS

In addition to 154 normal controls, 66 remitted melancholic patients and 55 remitted non-melancholic patients filled out the IPSM and two widely-used comprehensive personality inventories, the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) and the Munich Personality Test (MPT). The subdivision of patients was made according to three major symptom-based criteria for melancholia (those of RDC, DSM-III, DSM-IV).

RESULTS

Multivariate and post-hoc univariate analyses of variance revealed significant differences among the three groups in several personality dimensions after Bonferroni's adjustments of P values. While reported scores of both melancholic and non-melancholic patients deviated from normative scores on several personality dimensions, non-melancholic patients reported significantly higher scores on the total IPSM and the 'fragile inner-self' (a subscore of the IPSM) than did normal controls or melancholic depressives. The principal component analysis isolated two factors related to depressive disorders: one factor corresponding to the five IPSM scores; and the other corresponding to harm avoidance, neuroticism and frustration tolerance. The scores on the former factor differentiated non-melancholic depressives from melancholic depressives and normal controls. The scores on the latter factor differentiated both melancholic and non-melancholic depressives from normal controls.

LIMITATIONS

Prospective studies in which depressive subjects are subdivided into melancholic and non-melancholic subjects will be required to see whether the personality deviations here related to depressive disorders strongly reflect the premorbid personality function.

CONCLUSIONS

These results indicate that the IPSM scales (particularly, the fragile inner-self scale and the total IPSM scale) are relatively independent of all dimensions included in the two comprehensive personality inventories, and have a capability to describe personality differences between non-melancholic depression and melancholia.

Modulation of MUC1 mucin as an escape mechanism of breast cancer cells from autologous cytotoxic T-lymphocytes

MUC1 mucin is known to serve as a target molecule in the killing of breast cancer cells by cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs). We searched for a possible mechanism allowing tumour cells to escape from autologous CTLs. When the killing of breast cancer cells by autologous lymphocytes was examined in 26 patients with breast cancer, significant tumour cell lysis was observed in 8 patients, whereas virtually no autologous tumour cell lysis was detected in as many as 18 patients. In the patients who showed negligible tumour cell lysis, the autologous tumour cells expressed MUC1-related antigenic epitopes much more weakly than the tumour cells in the patients who exhibited strong cytotoxicity (significant statistically at P< 0.0005-0.0045), suggesting that the unresponsiveness of cancer cells to CTLs observed in these patients was mainly due to loss of MUC1 expression or modulation of its antigenicity. A breast cancer cell line, NZK-1, established from one of the cytotoxicity-negative patients, did not express MUC1 and was resistant to killing by CTLs, while control breast cancer cell lines expressing MUC-1 were readily killed by CTLs. Transfection of NZK-1 cells with MUC1 cDNA induced significant lysis by autologous T-lymphocytes. These results supported the importance of MUC1 mucin in autologous anti-tumour immunity, but suggested that the major escape mechanism of tumour cells from autologous T-lymphocytes is the loss and/or modulation of MUC1 antigenicity on tumour cells, which would limit the effectiveness of possible immunotherapy designed to target the MUC1 mucin.

Establishment of specific pathogen-free guinea-pig colonies using limited-flora guinea-pigs associated with conventional guinea-pig flora, and monitoring of their cecal flora

Six groups of limited flora (LF) Hartley guinea-pigs were produced by inoculation of hysterectomy-derived GF guinea-pigs with various combinations of cecal bacteria of conventional (CV) guinea-pigs to determine the effective bacterial cocktails for the establishment of a specific pathogen free (SPF) colony. Bifidobacterium magnum (Bif) isolated from CV guinea-pigs was used for pretreatment. The mortality of LF guinea-pigs inoculated with only Bif was 75%, and that of those inoculated with Bif plus chloroform-treated cecal suspension (CHF) or Bif plus CHF plus 32 isolates from CV guinea-pigs was 40 to 66.7%. These three groups were in an unhealthy condition with mucoid enteritis-like diarrhea. However, the mortality of LF guinea-pigs inoculated with the anaerobic growth on EG plates injected with 10(-5) dilution of cecal contents (CF) or inoculated with Bif plus CF was 6.3 and 15%, respectively. These latter two groups of LF guinea-pigs were transferred to separate barrier rooms and some of the LF guinea-pigs were maintained in isolators as a source of intestinal flora for SPF guinea-pigs. The composition of cecal flora of LF guinea-pigs was stable for a long time, and bacteroidaceae and peptococcaceae were maintained as predominant components. The basic composition of the cecal flora of SPF guinea-pigs originated from LF guinea-pigs, which consists mainly of the anaerobic bacteria, was not changed over a long period, and the flora composition became similar to that in CV guinea-pigs. Guinea-pig-specific pathogens from the SPF colonies were not detected during experiments.

The autocrine loop of epidermal growth factor receptor-epidermal growth factor / transforming growth factor-alpha in malignant rhabdoid tumor cell lines: heterogeneity of autocrine mechanism in TTC549

To investigate the effects of the autocrine loop of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-epidermal growth factor (EGF) / transforming growth factor-alpha (TGF-alpha) on the proliferation and differentiation of malignant rhabdoid tumor (MRT), we used five MRT cell lines, TM87-16, STM91-01, TTC549, TTC642, and YAM-RTK1. RT-PCR analyses revealed expression of EGFR mRNA in all MRT cell lines. In contrast, the expression of either EGF or TGF-alpha mRNA was detected in all MRT cell lines. Expression of EGF, TGF-alpha, and EGFR as determined by immunocytochemical staining and in situ hybridization, correlated with the results of RT-PCR. Upon differentiation-induction with 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), in TTC549, showing an expression of TGF-alpha but not EGF initially, de novo expression of EGF mRNA appeared abruptly on day 2 of TPA treatment. To confirm the EGFR-EGF / TGF-alpha autocrine loop, we used TGF-alpha, EGF, and their antibodies in the cultures. Monoclonal antibody (mAb) to EGFR alone significantly inhibited the growth of cell line TTC549. However, mAb to EGF or TGF-alpha could inhibit proliferation of this cell line only when administrated together. Our findings would suggest that growth of the TTC549 cell line is constitutionally regulated by TGF-alpha / EGFR, but that inhibition of this autocrine mechanism results in transient activation of an autocrine loop involving EGF / EGFR. Our results may indicate the presence of two different autocrine loops of EGFR-EGF and / or EGFR-TGF-alpha in MRT cell lines. The heterogeneity of autocrine mechanisms found in MRT cell lines would be consistent with the multiphenotypic diversity and aggressive characteristics of this enigmatic tumor.

No association of glutathione S-transferase M1 gene polymorphism with diabetic nephropathy in Japanese type 2 diabetic patients

Oxidative stress possibly contributes to the development of diabetic nephropathy. Therefore, the levels of endogenous antioxidants may be one of determinants of the susceptibility to diabetic nephropathy. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) can work as one of endogenous antioxidants to protect cells from oxidative stress. The M1 member of GST mu class (GSTM1) is polymorphic and only expressed in 55-60% of Caucasians because of the homozygous deletion of the gene (null genotype). Recent studies have provided evidence that the GSTM1 null genotype, i.e. lack of the GSTM1 activity, is associated with an increased susceptibility to lung cancer and colorectal cancer. The present study was conducted to determine whether the genetic polymorphism influences the development of diabetic nephropathy. We examined 105 patients with diabetic nephropathy and 69 patients without diabetic nephropathy in Japanese type 2 diabetic patients with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. GSTM1 genotyping was performed by polymerase chain reaction. The two patient groups were well matched with regard to age, body mass index and HbAlc. GSTM1 null genotype was observed in 48.6% of patients with nephropathy versus 55.1% of patients without nephropathy. The frequency of GSTM1 null genotype was not significantly higher in the patient group with nephropathy than in the patient group without nephropathy. This study is the first to investigate the association of GSTM1 gene polymorphism with the development of diabetic nephropathy. The present results suggest that GSTM1 null genotype does not contribute to the development of diabetic nephropathy in Japanese type 2 diabetic patients.

The accuracy of MRI in assessing graft integrity after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction

To evaluate the efficacy of MRI in assessing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction graft integrity, we compared MRI findings with arthroscopic findings in 52 patients who had undergone arthroscopically assisted ACL reconstruction using semitendinosus and gracilis tendons augmented by woven polyester. MRI and arthroscopy were carried out 12 months after the operation. The MR appearance of ACL grafts was categorized into 3 types by signal intensity and continuity of the ligament according to Rak's method: 1. well-defined type: the graft was visualized as a smoothly continuous band with low signal over the entire course; 2. intermediate type: signal intensity increased and a low-signal band was visualized only in part of the graft; 3. indiscernible type: the graft was not identified through the joint cavity due to markedly increased signal intensity. When the MR appearance of intermediate or indiscernible types was defined as torn, the grafts were presumed to be torn in 9 patients whose arthroscopic findings were 7 intact and 2 torn grafts. All cases with intact MRI findings were intact on arthroscopic examination. Thus, the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of MRI as an evaluative tool for ACL graft tears were 100%, 86% and 86.5%, respectively.

Meniscal tears after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction

The aim of this study was to follow patients in whom preoperative MRI demonstrated grade-3 lesions in the medial meniscus but no visible tears at arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, and to ascertain whether these meniscal lesions would progress to definite tears after reconstruction. The Study population consisted of 19 patients with a mean age of 23.2 years. Intraoperative arthroscopy showed normal appearance in 16 of 19 menisci and mild degree superficial legions in 3 menisci. None of the patients had any special treatment for the menisci at surgery. As controls, 39 patients who showed no tears on MRI and arthroscopy were studied. All MR studies were performed on a 0.5 T MR unit with field echo pulse sequences. A slice thickness of 1.5 mm was used with no interslice gap. Grade-3 legions progressed to definite tears in 8 of the 19 studied patients (42.1%) 12 to 33 months after ACL reconstruction. The Remaining 11 patients showed only symptoms or signs suggesting meniscal tears during a mean follow-up of 26.1 months. In the controls, medial meniscal tears occurred in 2 of the 39 patients (5.1%) 15 to 18 months after reconstruction. The studied patients were divided into a tear group (n=8) and a no-tear group (n=11). When the number of slices with grade-3 lesions was compared between the 2 groups, the mean slice number in the tear group (5.8 slices) was significantly greater than that in the no-tear group (3.1 slices) (P<0.05). These results suggest that even if no visible tear is found at surgery, patients in whom grade-3 lesions are identified in many slices have a high risk of developing definite tears after ACL reconstruction.

SPT genes: key players in the regulation of transcription, chromatin structure and other cellular processes

Suppressor of Ty (SPT) genes were originally identified through a genetic screen for mutations in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae that restore gene expression disrupted by the insertion of the transposon Ty. Classic members of the SPT gene family, SPT11, SPT12, and SPT15, encode for the histones H2A and H2B, and for TATA-binding protein (TBP), respectively. Over the past few years, molecular complexes and cellular functions in which other SPT gene products involve have been discovered through genetic and biochemical studies in yeast and several other organisms: Key regulators of transcription and chromatin structure, such as DSIF, SAGA, and FACT, all contain SPT gene products as essential subunits. In addition, accumulating evidence suggests that SPT gene products play more diverse roles, including roles in DNA replication, DNA recombination and developmental regulation. Here we review the current understanding of the functions and roles of the SPT genes, with special emphasis on the role of SPT5 in transcript elongation and in neuronal development in vertebrates.

Determination of optimal protein contents for a protein restriction diet in type 2 diabetic patients with microalbuminuria

To establish the method by which the optimal dietary protein content for type 2 diabetic patients with nephropathy could be determined, dietary protein content was reduced in gradated steps and renal function was evaluated at the completion of each diet. Eight type 2 diabetic patients with microalbuminuria were examined in this study. Renal function, urinary albumin excretion rate (AER) and urinary excretion rates of prostaglandins were evaluated at the completion of each of three consecutive one-week dietary periods where the protein content was 1.2, 0.8 and 0.6 g x kg Body Weight (BW)(-1) x day(-1) on the first, second and third week, respectively. Filtration fraction (FF), AER and urinary excretion rates of prostaglandin E2 and 6-keto-prostaglandin F1alpha significantly decreased in response to reduced dietary protein content from 1.2 to 0.8 g x kg BW(-1) x day(-1). No additional decreases in FF, AER and urinary excretion rates of these two prostaglandins were obtained after the 0.6 g x kg BW(-1) x day(-1) low protein diet period. The method evaluating renal hemodynamics at the completion of several consecutive one-week dietary periods was confirmed to be useful to determine the optimal protein contents in type 2 diabetic patients with nephropathy. The result showed that the optimal protein content in type 2 diabetic patients with microalbuminuria was 0.8 g x kg BW(-1) x day(-1) and protein restriction of less than 0.8 g x kg BW(-1) x day(-1) was not necessary for patients with this stage of diabetic nephropathy. A part of reasons in which FF decreased after reduced protein content in diet may be due to decreased prostaglandins production in the kidneys.

The Bacterium Burkholderia gladioli Strain CHB101 Produces Two Different Kinds of Chitinases Belonging to Families 18 and 19 of the Glycosyl Hydrolases

Two genes (chiA and chiB) coding for chitanases A and B (ChiA and ChiB) were isolated from the chitinolytic bacterium, Burkholderia gladioli strain CHB101. chiA contains an open reading frame that encodes a protein of 343 amino acids, whereas chiB encodes a protein of 307 amino acids. The deduced amino acid sequence of ChiA showed a high similarity to those of microbial chitinases belonging to family 18 of the glycosyl hydrolases, while ChiB showed significant sequence similarity to plant chitinases and Streptomyces spp. chitinases belonging to family 19.

High viral eradication with a daily 12-week natural interferon-beta treatment regimen in chronic hepatitis C patients with low viral load. IFN-beta Research Group

Virological sustained response (SR) is achieved in 31-49% of patients with chronic hepatitis C with combination therapy using interferon (IFN)-alpha and ribavirin for 24-48 weeks. However, as a period of 24-48 weeks is a burden for patients, we investigated the effect of daily intravenous administration of natural IFN-beta for 12 weeks in this study. In all, 112 patients were enrolled and received a daily administration of 6 MU of natural IFN-beta intravenously for 12 weeks. Serum HCV-RNA before treatment was assessed by the competitive reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction assay. The patients were divided into two groups according to pretreatment viral load: the low viral load group (N = 25, <6.3 x 10(5) copies/ml), and the high viral load group (N = 87, > or =6.3 x 10(5) copies/ml) who were additionally administered IFN-beta thrice weekly for subsequent 14 weeks at the patients' request. Virological SR was obtained in 37% (41/112) of all the patients; 88% of those with a low viral load, and 22% of patients with a high viral load. Virological SR was attained in 21% of patients with HCV subtype 1, and in 67% of those with subtype 2a. In patients with HCV subtype 1b, virological SR was obtained in patients with the mutant-type (> or =4 amino acid mutations in the NSSA2209-48) having a low viral load (4/4), but not in those having a high viral load (0/3). The results suggest that a daily intravenous administration of natural IFN-beta for 12 weeks showed high therapeutic efficacy in patients with a low viral load despite the shorter treatment period and that the therapeutic efficacy depends on viral load rather than on the number of NS5A2209-48 amino acid mutations.

Cloning and characterization of pcd encoding delta'-piperideine-6-carboxylate dehydrogenase from flavobacterium lutescens IFO3084

The pcd gene from Flavobacterium lutescens IFO3084 encoding Delta'-piperideine-6-carboxylate dehydrogenase (PCD) was cloned, sequenced, and expressed in Escherichia coli. The deduced amino acid sequence of PCD from F. lutescens IFO3084 showed strong similarity to that from Streptomyces clavuligerus. The molecular mass of the recombinant PCD was estimated to be approximately 58,000 Da by SDS-PAGE and native PAGE, which indicated that the enzyme molecule is a monomer. The in vitro analysis of L-alpha-aminoadipic acid (L-AAA) production showed that L-AAA is synthesized from L-lysine in two steps catalyzed by L-lysine 6-aminotransferase (LAT) and PCD from F. lutescens IFO3084.

Genetic analysis of an incomplete mutS gene from Pseudomonas putida

We genetically characterized the Pseudomonas putida mutS gene and found that it encodes a smaller MutS protein than do the genes of other bacteria. This gene is able to function in the mutS mutants of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. A P. putida mutS mutant has a mutation frequency 1,000-fold greater than that of the wild-type strain.

Characterization of L-lysine 6-aminotransferase and its structural gene from Flavobacterium lutescens IFO3084

L-Lysine 6-aminotransferase (LAT) is an enzyme involved in L-lysine catabolism in a wide range of living organisms. LAT from Flavobacterium lutescens IFO3084 was purified, and its structural gene (lat) was cloned, sequenced and expressed in Escherichia coli. Native PAGE analysis of purified LAT gave a single band corresponding to a molecular weight of about 110,000. lat encoded a protein of 493 amino acids with a deduced molecular weight of 53,200, which is very close to that of purified LAT determined on SDS-PAGE. Expression of lat in E. coli revealed that lat encodes a single subunit protein leading to LAT activity. These data suggested that LAT from F. lutescens IFO3084, like most other aminotransferases, is derived from a single ORF and is active as a homodimer.

Effects of protein meals on the urinary excretion of various plasma proteins in healthy subjects

To examine whether hemodynamic changes in response to acute protein loadings with different protein sources cause increases in urinary excretion of plasma proteins in healthy subjects, urinary excretions of various plasma proteins with various molecular radii and isoelectric points, namely albumin (Alb), IgG, IgG4, ceruloplasmin (CRL), and alpha2-macroglobulin (A2), were measured in healthy subjects after ingestion of a beef meal or of a tuna fish meal. Significant increases in urinary excretions of the negatively charged IgG4 and CRL and of the neutrally charged IgG were found in parallel with enhanced creatinine clearances after each protein ingestion. These renal responses returned to basal levels 9 h after the test. This finding suggests that in healthy subjects, the increase in glomerular filtration rate after acute protein loading caused selective enhancement of urinary excretions of plasma proteins with a molecular radius of approximately 55 A (the radius of IgG, IgG4, and CRL), irrespective of the charge barrier of the glomerulus. The increases in these three plasma proteins may be induced by leakage via the shunt pathway in the glomerulus, as proposed earlier (see text). In contrast, increases in urinary excretions of A2 and Alb were not found. The former finding may be explained by the possibility that A2 would not pass through this pathway, since the molecular radius of A2 (88 A) is larger than that of IgG, although the latter finding may be partially explained by preferential renal tubular reabsorption of Alb.

Autologous dendritic cells or cells expressing both B7-1 and MUC1 can rescue tumor-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes from MUC1-mediated apoptotic cell death

We attempted to induce MUC1-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) by mixed-lymphocyte tumor cell culture (MLTC) using two allogeneic MUC1-positive cancer cell lines, T-47D and MCF7. The induced CTLs exhibited MUC1-specific cytotoxicity 16 days after the initial stimulation. However, these CTLs underwent apoptotic death within 16 days. To examine whether the B7-1 molecule is required for the expansion of the responder cells, a B7-1(+)/MUC1(-) cell line was transfected with MUC1 cDNA, and the resulting transfectant was employed as a stimulator in an autologous MLTC. The CTLs exhibited MUC1 specificity but also continued to propagate. In parallel, autologous dendritic cells (DCs) were added to an MLTC containing peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBLs) and the allogeneic MUC1-positive stimulators. The CTLs demonstrated MUC1 specificity and their number increased. This suggests that the B7-1 molecule is required for rescuing CTLs from MUC1-mediated apoptotic death, but not for the induction of MUC1-specific responsiveness. This strategy to obtain the CTLs efficiently may be useful for adoptive immunotherapy against cancer.

Application of efficient and specific gene transfer systems and organ culture techniques for the elucidation of mechanisms of epithelial-mesenchymal interaction in the developing gut

Epithelial-mesenchymal interactions are very important in the development of the vertebrate gut. In the avian embryonic stomach (proventriculus), expression of embryonic chick pepsinogen (ECPg) gene, which is specific to developing glandular cells in stomach epithelium, is regulated by mesenchymal influence. Molecular mechanisms of tissue-specific transcriptional regulation of the ECPg gene and the molecular nature of the mesenchymal signals were analyzed using a combination of the classic organ culture system and gene transfer strategies. In the present review, three methods for the introduction of DNA into tissues are described: lipofection, electroporation and retroviral infection, and characteristics of each system are discussed.

Knee functions and a return to sports activity in competitive athletes following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction

We investigated knee functions and a return to sports in 50 competitive athlete patients treated with arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using double-looped STG augmented by woven polyester at a 1-year follow-up. There were 25 males and 25 females with a mean age of 24.3 years (range: 19-39 years). The majority of preinjury sports were basketball, volleyball and soccer. Athletic rehabilitation including agility training and sports-specific training was started at 12 weeks. Fourty patients (80%) was rated as normal or nearly normal on the assessment of International Knee Documentation Commitee postoperatively. Fourty-eight patients (96%) obtained full range of motion, and the mean quadriceps muscle strength of the injured side was 91.3%of that of the uninjured side. As for a return to sports, 46 patients (92%) were able to do fully competitive sports at a mean of 8.1 postoperative months. These results suggest that arthroscopic reconstruction using augmented double-looped STG allows early athletic rehabilitation, and lead satisfactory outcome as well as a reliable and early return to preinjury level of sport activity for the majority of the competitive athlete patients.
