Abstract
Pemphigoid gestationis is considered to be a rare pregnancy exclusive bullous disease, which modifies the course of the pregnancy, with difficulties in the management of the pruritus and skin lesions as well as a possible change in the neonatal outcome. Differential diagnosis of skin lesions and pruritus in pregnancy is challenging, and complementary investigations such as skin biopsy or laboratory tests are indispensable. The correct diagnosis and proper treatment could change the natural course of a pregnancy at risk and could improve maternal and fetal morbidity. We present the case of a patient with pemfigoid gestationis with the aim to highlight: i) the management of this pregnancy-associated skin disorder which transfers this pregnancy into a category of high obstetrical risk pregnancy; ii) the particularities of the course of the pregnancy; and iii) the importance in the differential diagnosis of pregnancy dermatoses. The particularity of this case of pemphigoid gestationis was the acute fetal distress in the absence of intrauterine growth restriction that is frequently found in this pathology, and the management of a rare pregnancy skin condition that currently has no standard treatment.

Abstract
Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a rare systemic vasculitis. This report describes the case of a 68-year-old female that showed up at the emergency department with extensive haemorrhagic bullous lesions, affecting elbows, the dorsal side of hands, feet and knees, with loss of tissue and necrotic areas. The evaluation led to the diagnosis of antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-positive EGPA with multisystem involvement: cutaneous, pulmonary, renal, intestinal and peripheral and central nervous system. She received corticosteroids and intravenous immunoglobulin. She developed multiple infectious complications with multidrug-resistant bacteria. Two months after the diagnosis, the patient had no respiratory or gastrointestinal signs or symptoms, and the proteinuria was mild. Yet, she maintained extensive ulcers and was suffering from disabling dysesthesias. After the resolution of all infections, we decided to start rituximab. She was also submitted to excisional debridement and heterologous graft repair and later to autologous graft repair of elbows and feet. She had a good clinical response with complete healing of the wounds. This case intends to illustrate a serious form of EGPA, with severe multisystem involvement that resulted in great morbidity. It was a clinical challenge to balance the need for immunosuppressive therapy with the high infectious risk of the patient. Nonetheless, we considered that disease control was fundamental to skin recovery, better physical rehabilitation and better quality of life.

Abstract
Discharging facial lesions of dental etiology are almost always difficult to diagnose. Due to the lack of dental signs in most patients, these lesions are often misunderstood and overlooked. Such patients often seek cosmetic therapy and end up undergoing unnecessary treatments, if an odontogenic source is not established. To make an accurate diagnosis, a comprehensive medical and dental history, as well as knowledge of the various presentations of facial lesions, is of pivotal importance. The cases identified here were misdiagnosed at first, and they were treated with antibiotics and surgical procedures as a result. Root canal operations were performed after referral to a dental unit, and the sinus tract eventually healed. This emphasizes the significance of taking odontogenic sources into account when treating head and neck lesions.

Abstract
Pilomatricomas are rare skin tumors related to hair follicles. They typically present in children, and the most common locations are head and neck. Pilomatricomas are usually painless; however, they can cause cosmetic problems. Treatment is decided on an individual basis and involves local excision. However, caution should be taken if the lesion is malignant, as resection with safe margins (0.5-1.0 cm) is determinant of the overall outcome. Radiotherapy is indicated in cases of residual tumor tissue or recurrence. The role of chemotherapy in pilomatricomas is still undetermined. We report a 55-year-old female with multiple lumps on her shoulder and back. The sonographic features of these lesions were typically consistent with pilomatricomas. The patient decided to opt for excision due to cosmetic reasons and the histopathology features were suggestive of pilomatricoma.

Abstract
The relatively unknown genus Iodobacter sp. has been repeatedly isolated from skin ulcers and saprolegniosis on freshwater fish in Finland, especially farmed salmonids. Genetic characterization verified that all 23 bacterial isolates studied here belonged to the species Iodobacter limnosediminis, previously undescribed from the fish microbiota. Whole-genome pulsed-field gel electrophoresis revealed variability between the I. limnosediminis strains, suggesting that they were most likely of environmental origin. Two I. limnosediminis strains caused lesions in 27%-53% of brown trout (Salmo trutta) injected intramuscularly (p ≤ .05). The lesions represented moderate to severe tissue damage, but for most fish, the tissues had been repaired by the end of the experiment through the accumulation of fibrocytes and macrophages at the site of the lesion. I. limnosediminis was reisolated from some lesions and/or internal organs. Phenotypically and biochemically, I. limnosediminis resembles several common bacterial species found in the aquatic environment, as it grows well on several media as whitish medium-sized colonies, is Gram negative and rod-shaped. Here, we characterized I. limnosediminis strains with several methods, including MALDI-TOF. This characterization will help in further investigations into the occurrence and possible involvement of I. limnosediminis in skin lesions of freshwater fish.

Abstract
Simple Summary The usual castration of male fattening pigs is under discussion, especially in organic farming, because of the negative effects on the pig’s welfare and integrity. Nevertheless, it is feared that boars show more aggressive and mounting behaviours, resulting in stress, painful injuries and lameness, and that their meat has an unpleasant odour/taste (called “boar taint”). Therefore, it was examined to which extent these concerns come true under commercial organic conditions. Additionally, influences from management and husbandry were investigated, in order to identify conditions in organic fattening systems with low risk to welfare and meat quality. Despite more agonistic and mounting behaviours in boars compared to castrates, especially if housed next to females, no increased numbers of skin lesions, lame pigs, disease treatments or deaths were observed. Less skin lesions occurred when more space was provided. A moderate rate of wounds on penises was found, but not on farms with bulky straw bedding. A small number of carcasses (1.44%) were excluded from processing because of boar taint. In conclusion, boar fattening under the examined organic conditions appears to be a feasible alternative to castration, but penile injuries should be monitored at slaughter. Abstract The welfare of male fattening pigs may be improved by refraining from castration, but may be compromised, in turn, by harmful social behaviour in groups of boars. In addition, boar taint may be problematic. This study aimed to evaluate these potential problems in boar fattening under commercial organic conditions. In total, 625 boars were compared with 433 barrows and 83 gilts regarding their social behaviour, lesions and lameness at 80 kg, before and after split marketing. The mixed-model analysis showed that significantly more short agonistic interactions, fights and mounting behaviours were observed in groups of boars. Agonistic interactions were reduced in spring/summer and when boars grew older. Fights and mounts were increased when boars had contact to female pigs in the neighbouring pen. No effect of split marketing, growth rate, homogeneity of groups, group size, feeding space and illumination hours could be detected. Increased interaction frequencies did not result in significantly more skin lesions, lameness, treatments or mortality. Increased space allowance reduced skin lesions. On 9.8% of the dissected boars’ penises, wounds were detected; they were absent on two farms with generous litter provision. Boar taint prevalence, as detected by human nose method, was 1.44%. Under the studied organic husbandry conditions, boar fattening appears to be practicable, although penile injuries should be monitored at slaughter.

Abstract
Simple Summary The current growing social awareness of animal welfare has led to the development of welfare indicators, which are effective tools for assessing each of the integrated aspects of this multidisciplinary issue. Hence, skin diseases have been suggested as potential general health indicators for use in cetaceans. Particularly cetacean poxvirus causes distinguishable hyperpigmented “ring” or “tattoo” lesions that affect cetaceans both in the wild and in managed facilities. However, most studies have analyzed these characteristic lesions through visual appraisal, while only a few have implemented diagnostic methods to corroborate the presence of the virus. To this end, skin biopsies are usually the sampling method selected, although they are considered to be an intrusive procedure. In this study, we analyzed sloughed skin sampled with cytology cell samplers (CCSs) in 12 tattoo-like lesions from two free-ranging cetaceans stranded in the Canary Islands. We employed two different DNA extraction methods and compared the effectiveness of the device with that of biopsies. All the lesions resulted positive for cetacean poxvirus, obtaining reliable data from the use of this device. Thus, CCS is considered to be a promising non-invasive tool for further assessing skin diseases in cetaceans, particularly those under human care, without affecting their welfare. Abstract Poxvirus-like lesions are widely used as a potential health indicator in cetaceans, although for this application, corroboration of Poxvirus skin disease is imperative. Aiming to address skin biopsies intrusiveness, a preliminary investigation of a non-invasive skin sampling procedure to molecularly detect CePV-1 in 12 tattoo-like-lesions from two free-ranging stranded cetaceans in the Canary Islands was performed. Skin lesions were brushed with cytology cell samplers (CCSs) and placed into 1.5 mL microcentrifuge tubes with 1 mL of RNAlaterTM Stabilization Solution. For factual comparisons, DNA extractions from sloughed skin obtained with CCS and biopsies from the same lesions were accomplished with DNA Tissue Kit STM (QuickGene, Kurabo, Japan). Moreover, a second DNA extraction from sloughed skin with DNeasyTM Blood and Tissue Kit (Qiagen, Inc., Valencia, CA, USA) was performed to ascertain kit suitability for CCS. Molecular detection of CePV-1 was performed through a real-time PCR. As a result, a 91.7% and 83.3% rates of positivity were obtained with biopsies and CCS through Quickgene, respectively, compared to the rate of 100% using CCS with Qiagen. Accordingly, CCS is a reliable non-invasive sampling device to obtain sufficient genetic material to be analyzed for CePV-1 in tattoo-skin-lesions as well as for other purposes in cetaceans under human care.

Abstract
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a multisystem disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), that primarily causes respiratory symptoms. However, an increasing number of cutaneous manifestations associated with this disease have been reported. The aim of this study is to analyze the scientific literature on cutaneous manifestations associated with SARS-CoV-2 by means of a narrative literature review until June 2021. The search was conducted in the following electronic databases: Medline (PubMed), SciELO, and Cochrane Library Plus. The most common cutaneous manifestations in patients with COVID-19 are vesicular eruptions, petechial/purpuric rashes, acral lesions, liveoid lesions, urticarial rash, and maculopapular-erythematous rash. These manifestations may be the first presenting symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection, as is the case with acral lesions, vesicular eruptions, and urticaria. In relation to severity, the presence of liveoid lesions may be associated with a more severe course of the disease. Treatment used for dermatological lesions includes therapy with anticoagulants, corticosteroids, and antihistamines. Knowledge of the dermatologic manifestations associated with SARS-CoV-2 contributes to the diagnosis of COVID-19 in patients with skin lesions associated with respiratory symptoms or in asymptomatic patients. In addition, understanding the dermatologic lesions associated with COVID-19 could be useful to establish a personalized care plan.

Abstract
Leishmaniasis is a vector-borne disease caused by a protozoa parasite from over 20 Leishmania species. The clinical manifestations and the outcome of the disease vary greatly. Global RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) analyses emerged as a powerful technique to profile the changes in the transcriptome that occur in the Leishmania parasites and their infected host cells as the parasites progresses through their life cycle. Following the bite of a sandfly vector, Leishmania are transmitted to a mammalian host where neutrophils and macrophages are key cells mediating the interactions with the parasites and result in either the elimination the infection or contributing to its proliferation. This review focuses on RNA-Seq based transcriptomics analyses and summarizes the main findings derived from this technology. In doing so, we will highlight caveats in our understanding of the parasite’s pathobiology and suggest novel directions for research, including integrating more recent data highlighting the role of the bacterial members of the sandfly gut microbiota and the mammalian host skin microbiota in their potential role in influencing the quantitative and qualitative aspects of leishmaniasis pathology.

Abstract
Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant disorder with multisystemic involvement usually resulting from mutations in the tuberous sclerosis 1 (TSC1) or TSC2 genes. However, 10 to 25% of patients do not exhibit these mutations. Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are capillary-venous malformations that can be asymptomatic or cause variable neurological manifestations, including seizures. Familial CCMs are recognized. In both conditions, specific dermatological lesions are associated. We present the case of a 31-year-old female with TSC diagnosed at the age of 18 years who presented with negative genetic testing. She was admitted to our department in 2019 for a sudden increased frequency of focal seizures. Patient examination revealed multiple facial and intraoral angiofibroma, diplopia, right hemihypoesthesia, brisk deep tendon reflexes, and distal leg paresthesia. VideoEEG indicated a frontal paramedian epileptogenic focus. Cerebral magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and angioMRI identified multiple fronto-parietal cortical tubers, as well as multiple CCMs, with evidence of bleeding in one. Under antiepileptic drug (AED) and mTOR inhibitor treatment, the seizure frequency significantly improved in a short period of time. This is the first reported case of tuberous sclerosis with negative genetic testing associated with multiple cerebral cavernoma. Such complex patients require multidisciplinary management and detailed genetic testing for increasing knowledge on neuro-cutaneous disorders.

Abstract
This study presents the first application of convolutional neural networks to high-frequency ultrasound skin image classification. This type of imaging opens up new opportunities in dermatology, showing inflammatory diseases such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, or skin lesions. We collected a database of 631 images with healthy skin and different skin pathologies to train and assess all stages of the methodology. The proposed framework starts with the segmentation of the epidermal layer using a DeepLab v3+ model with a pre-trained Xception backbone. We employ transfer learning to train the segmentation model for two purposes: to extract the region of interest for classification and to prepare the skin layer map for classification confidence estimation. For classification, we train five models in different input data modes and data augmentation setups. We also introduce a classification confidence level to evaluate the deep model’s reliability. The measure combines our skin layer map with the heatmap produced by the Grad-CAM technique designed to indicate image regions used by the deep model to make a classification decision. Moreover, we propose a multicriteria model evaluation measure to select the optimal model in terms of classification accuracy, confidence, and test dataset size. The experiments described in the paper show that the DenseNet-201 model fed with the extracted region of interest produces the most reliable and accurate results.

Abstract
Infantile systemic hyalinosis (ISH) is a rare, autosomal recessive disorder characterized by widespread abnormal growth of hyalinized fibrous tissue in skin and mucosae. The typical clinical picture consists of the development of joint contractures, skin lesions, and severe, chronic pain. We report the case of a 2-year-old Pakistani girl, who presented to our clinic with papulonodular lesions, gingival hyperplasia, hypotonia, and joint contractures. Skin biopsy revealed hyaline deposits, and genetic testing revealed a mutation in the protein Anthrax toxin receptor 2 (ANTXR2).

Abstract
We investigated the effects of the NACHT leucine-rich repeat- and PYD-containing proteins (NLRP3) inflammasome, interleukin -18 (IL-18) and interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) cytokines on the expression of filaggrin-2 (FLG-2) protein in psoriasis patients. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), including T cells, were isolated from psoriasis patients and healthy donors. Ribonucleic acid (RNA) extraction and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were performed for all specimens. Immunohistochemical analysis for FLG-2 in normal and psoriatic epidermal tissue also was performed. Western blot was used to separate and identify FLG-2 protein, and immunohistochemical staining was performed to assess FLG-2 expression for psoriasis skin lesions and normal skin. RT-PCR analysis indicated that NLRP3 inflammasome, IL-18 cytokine and IL-1β cytokine expression were increased in psoriatic epidermis compared to normal skin. We found that the expression of FLG-2 was decreased in psoriatic epidermis compared to normal skin. Higher levels of NLRP3 help decrease the FLG-2 level.

Abstract
Germline PTEN pathogenic variants cause a spectrum of disorders collectively labeled PTEN Hamartoma Tumor Syndrome (PHTS) and featured by hamartomas, developmental anomalies and increased cancer risk. Studies on experimental models provided evidence that PTEN is a “haploinsufficient” tumor-suppressor gene, however, mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of clinical manifestations in PHTS patients remain elusive. Beyond analyzing clinical and molecular features of a series of 20 Italian PHTS patients, we performed molecular investigations to explore the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of PTEN-associated manifestations, with special focus on mucocutaneous manifestations. Typical mucocutaneous features were present in all patients assessed, confirming that these are the most important clue to the diagnosis. The most frequent were papules located in the trunk or extremities (73.7%), oral mucosa papules (68.4%), acral/palmoplantar keratosis and facial papules (both 57.9%), according with literature data. Molecular analyses on one trichilemmoma suggested that the wild-type PTEN allele was retained and expressed, reinforcing the evidence that PTEN does not require a second somatic hit to initiate pathogenic processes. Unexpectedly, one patient also displayed a cutaneous phenotype consistent with atypical mole/melanoma syndrome; no variants were detected in known melanoma genes, but Whole Exome Sequencing showed the rare truncating variant c.495G>A in the CDH13 gene that might have cooperated with PTEN-haploinsufficiency to generate such phenotype. Our findings confirm the reproducibility of known PHTS manifestations in real-world practice, highlighting the role of mucocutaneous manifestations in facilitating prompt diagnosis of the syndrome, and provide some insights into the pathogenic process induced by PTEN alterations, which may contribute to its understanding.

Abstract
Xanthelasma palpebrarum is a subcutaneous lesion of the lid and cause a cosmetical issue. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the atmospheric plasma treatment for the treatment of xanthelasma with an 11-year follow up. Seventy-two patients with bilateral xanthelasma and 26 patients with unilateral xanthelasma by atmospheric plasma technique known also as voltaic arc dermabrasion (VAD, Europe Medical s.r.l. Montesilvano (PE), Italy). Photographs were obtained at the baseline and after the procedure and analyzed by an independent observer. The evaluation of the results was made 2 months after this single treatment with 11 years of follow up. The subjects average age was 48.5 years (range 41-63 years). All subjects were elected for a single session for the lesion removal. The erosion is epithelialized from the lesion margins and the dermal basal cells. After 2 months from the treatment, the result was scored as 4 (clearing of lesions > 75%, complete resolution) in 66 patients for a total of 104 lesions treated; scored as 3 in 24 patients for a total of 48 lesions, and as 2 in nine patients for a total of 18 lesions. No subjects scored 0 or 1. A total of 8 lesions showed mild erythema in the treated areas for 1 month. Numerous approaches were proposed for xanthelasma exeresis such as a surgical treatment especially in case of excessively large lesions or lesions involving the medial canthus that could produce a more limited skin laxity rapidly induces a risk of ectropion. In conclusion, the effectiveness of the present investigation suggest that the atmospheric plasma is a useful therapeutic option for the treatment of xanthelasma palpebrarum.

Abstract
We report patients in their homes in France who had cutaneous lesions caused by Anthrenus sp. larvae during the end of winter and into spring. These lesions mimic bites but are allergic reactions to larvae hairs pegged in the skin. These lesions should be distinguished from bites of bed bugs or fleas.

Abstract
Nodular skin lesions are infrequently reported among patients with syphilis. We describe a 42-year-old man with secondary syphilis who presented with a nodular cutaneous eruption involving his neck, upper chest, back, arms, and legs. Because there was uncertainty regarding the diagnosis at presentation, the patient underwent a punch biopsy of one of the lesions. Spirochetes were not seen with a Steiner silver stain, but they were visualized on subsequent immunohistochemical staining. The diagnosis was confirmed with serology, and the patient responded well to treatment with benzathine penicillin G. Given the current increase in syphilis cases across North America, it is critical that clinicians become familiar with some of the less common dermatologic manifestations of this infection so that the diagnosis is entertained and appropriate serologic testing is ordered in a timely fashion.

Abstract
In October 2014, a case of mass skin lesions was reported in whitespotted char (Salvelinus leucomaenis) caught in the Nalycheva River on the Kamchatka peninsula (Russia). The proportion of affected fish was approximately 50% of the catch. Lesions of varying severity were noted from small tubercles to large single and confluent formations and ulcers. Papilloma-like growths were found in the epidermal layer of the skin of the affected fish. Histopathological alterations included the following: submerged growth of epithelial cells, infiltration of inflammatory cells, oedema of scale pockets, resorption of scales, haemorrhages, local necrosis and an increased number of mucous cells. In the dermal layer of the skin, haemorrhages and extensive necrosis were recorded. Inflammation, necrosis and destruction of myocytes were found in the underlying musculature. This is the first documented case of papilloma-like skin lesions found in salmonids in Kamchatka. The affected whitespotted char were deemed unsuitable as a food product due to their unsatisfactory appearance and impermissible levels of bacterial contamination of the muscles.

Abstract
Feline leishmaniosis (FeL) is increasingly reported throughout the world and skin lesions predominate in the clinical picture. There are, however, few evidence-based data on cutaneous feline leishmaniosis and directions are strongly needed for a better management of the disease. In this study, we systematically reviewed what is currently known about the clinical dermatological presentation of FeL through analysis of the literature and, further, by adding unpublished cases managed by Italian veterinary dermatologists. Sixty-six feline cases of cutaneous leishmaniosis published in 33 articles between 1990 and 2020 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed. Six unpublished cases of cutaneous FeL managed by Italian dermatologists were also reviewed. The majority of cases were reported from South America, followed by Europe and North America. Nodules were the most frequently reported clinical signs and the presence of Leishmania in lesioned skin was assessed mainly by cytology. A total of six Leishmania species have been identified as being responsible for skin lesions. Coinfections by FIV or FeLV were reported in 12.1% and 9.1% of the cases, respectively. Clinical data including treatment have been analyzed and discussed to provide directives for proper management of the disease for which cats may also serve as domestic reservoirs for human infections.

Abstract
Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is an immune-mediated fibroinflammatory condition affecting multiple organs; however, the involvement of skin lesions is rare. We herein report a 65-year-old man who presented with pruritic punctate purpura on both legs and elevated liver enzyme levels. Computed tomography showed enlargement of the pancreas and thickening of the bile duct wall. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography showed diffuse irregular constriction of the main pancreatic duct, stricture of the lower common bile duct, and dilation after confluent stricture. A histopathologic examination of the pancreas and his enlarged salivary gland showed infiltration of IgG4-positive plasma cells. Ultimately, the patient was diagnosed with IgG4-RD.

Abstract
Leprosy is an infectious disease that remains endemic in approximately 100 developing countries, where about 200,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. Moreover, multibacillary leprosy, the most contagious form of the disease, has been detected at continuously higher rates among Brazilian elderly people. Due to the so-called immunosenescence, characterized by several alterations in the quality of the immune response during aging, this group is more susceptible to infectious diseases. In view of such data, the purpose of our work was to investigate if age-related alterations in the immune response could influence the pathogenesis of leprosy. As such, we studied 87 individuals, 62 newly diagnosed and untreated leprosy patients distributed according to the age range and to the clinical forms of the disease and 25 healthy volunteers, who were studied as controls. The frequency of senescent and memory CD8+ leukocytes was assessed by immunofluorescence of biopsies from cutaneous lesions, while the serum levels of IgG anti-CMV antibodies were analyzed by chemiluminescence and the gene expression of T cell receptors' inhibitors by RT-qPCR. We noted an accumulation of memory CD8+ T lymphocytes, as well as reduced CD8+CD28+ cell expression in skin lesions from elderly patients, when compared to younger people. Alterations in LAG3 and PDCD1 gene expression in cutaneous lesions of young MB patients were also observed, when compared to elderly patients. Such data suggest that the age-related alterations of T lymphocyte subsets can facilitate the onset of leprosy in elderly patients, not to mention other chronic inflammatory diseases.

Abstract
Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a rare angioproliferative disorder, which is usually associated with human herpesvirus-8 infection. Electrochemotherapy (ECT) may be an option in the treatment of KS skin lesions due to the high response rate noted in neoplastic lesions of different histological types. The aim of the present systematic review was to analyse the available evidence on using ECT in the treatment of KS skin lesions. Tumor response, local control and toxicity were analyzed. In the three included studies, the complete response rate was 65-100% and the overall response rate in all studies was 100%. The treatment was well tolerated with mild and transient toxicity. However, further studies are required to fully analyze long-term disease control and to compare ECT with other local therapies used for KS.

Abstract
Leishmaniasis, a neglected tropical disease, is on the decline in South Asia. However, cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis have risen in Sri Lanka since 2001, and the lack of in-depth research on its epidemiologic characteristics hampers control efforts. We analyzed data collected from patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis in Sri Lanka during 2001-2018 to study temporal and geographic trends and identify and monitor disease hotspots. We noted a progression in case rates, including a sharp rise in 2018, showing temporal expansion of disease-prevalent areas and 2 persistent hotspots. The northern hotspot shifted and shrank over time, but the southern hotspot progressively expanded and remained spatially static. In addition, we noted regional incidence differences for age and sex. We provide evidence of temporally progressive and spatially expanding incidence of leishmaniasis in Sri Lanka with distinct geographic patterns and disease hotspots, signaling an urgent need for effective disease control interventions.

Abstract
During 2019, five carcasses of juvenile Egyptian fruit bats (Rousettus aegyptiacus) were submitted to the Kimron Veterinary Institute. These bats exhibited typical poxvirus like lesion plaques of different sizes on the skin, abdomen and the ventral side of the wings. Clinical and histopathological findings suggested a poxvirus infection. Infectious virus was isolated from skin swabs, skin tissue and tongue of the dead bats and was further confirmed to be a Poxvirus by molecular diagnosis using PCR with pan-chordopoxviruses primers. All the dead bats were found positive for two Poxvirus genes encoding a metalloproteinase and DNA dependent DNA polymerase. In this study, a novel real time quantitative PCR (qPCR) assay was established to further confirmed the presence of specific poxvirus viral DNA in all pathologically tested tissues. Moreover, according to sequence analysis, the virus was found to be highly similar to the recently discovered Israeli Rousettus aegyptiacus Pox Virus (IsrRAPXV).

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM Dermatological adverse events (DAE) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with sorafenib predicts better outcome. Some turn into skin lesions (SL) requiring pathology examination. We describe incidence, characteristics and molecular profile of SL in HCC patients treated with sorafenib. MATERIALS AND METHODS SL were prospectively collected in 311 HCC patients who started sorafenib. SL from sorafenib cohort were compared to those from a control patient group selected to match SL type and demographics. HRAS, KRAS and BRAF mutations were analyzed by CAST-PCR, mutated p53 and MAPK pathway activation by immunohistochemistry and immune infiltration by hematoxylin-eosin staining. RESULTS Eighty-eight out of 311 patients developed DAE and 7.4% SL required histological assessment. Most frequent lesions were keratoacanthomas (n = 4), squamous-cell carcinomas (SCC)(n = 5), basal-cell carcinomas (BCC)(n = 3) and seborrheic keratosis (n = 5). HRAS and KRAS mutations were detected in 4 SL, while no mutations showed in control SL. Nuclear pERK immunostaining was identified in 33.3% of cases versus 5.3% of controls. Most SL (90%) from patients with DAE were proliferative with intense immune infiltration (73%). CONCLUSIONS The onset of SL and their molecular profile did not impact negatively on patient's prognosis, but intense proliferation of SL may reflect compensatory activation of MAPK pathway and warrants their close monitoring.
