Measurement of e^{+}e^{-} Momentum and Angular Distributions from Linearly Polarized Photon Collisions

The Breit-Wheeler process which produces matter and antimatter from photon collisions is experimentally investigated through the observation of 6085 exclusive electron-positron pairs in ultraperipheral Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV. The measurements reveal a large fourth-order angular modulation of cos4Δϕ=(16.8±2.5)% and smooth invariant mass distribution absent of vector mesons (ϕ, ω, and ρ) at the experimental limit of ≤0.2% of the observed yields. The differential cross section as a function of e^{+}e^{-} pair transverse momentum P_{⊥} peaks at low value with sqrt[⟨P_{⊥}^{2}⟩]=38.1±0.9  MeV and displays a significant centrality dependence. These features are consistent with QED calculations for the collision of linearly polarized photons quantized from the extremely strong electromagnetic fields generated by the highly charged Au nuclei at ultrarelativistic speed. The experimental results have implications for vacuum birefringence and for mapping the magnetic field which is important for emergent QCD phenomena.

What Factors Influence Dental Faculty's Willingness to Treat Pregnant Women?

BACKGROUND

Despite evidence-based guidelines advocating for the provision of oral health care throughout pregnancy, dentists remain hesitant to provide dental treatment for pregnant women. However, little is known about attitudes toward treating pregnant women among dental school faculty, who may transmit their attitudes and treatment preferences to their students.

METHODS

We collected cross-sectional survey data at the New York University College of Dentistry, which produces 10% of all US dentists and is the largest US dental school, to understand faculty attitudes and knowledge regarding providing dental treatment to pregnant women. This study was part of an educational effort to improve dental care access by pregnant women and to examine what factors influence willingness to treat pregnant patients among dental faculty members.

RESULTS

We found that concerns about professional liability outweighed inadequate knowledge regarding treatment of pregnant patients in determining dental faculty's willingness to treat pregnant women.

CONCLUSIONS

Educational interventions delivered to dental faculty regarding current dental treatment guidelines for pregnant women may not be sufficient to increase faculty's provision of dental care to women during pregnancy. Future work to design effective interventions to increase dental treatment of pregnant women among dental faculty should address liability concerns.

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER STATEMENT

Interventions addressing dental clinician and faculty knowledge about dental treatment for pregnant women may be insufficient to increase dental treatment among pregnant women. Instead, policy makers should consider designing, implementing, and evaluating interventions addressing malpractice and liability concerns.

[Development and clinical application of custom-made temporomandibular joint-skull base combined prosthesis]

Objective: To introduce the design, manufacture and clinical application of the custom-made temporomandibular joint (TMJ)-skull base combined prosthesis and evaluate its safety, effectiveness and accuracy. Methods: The patients diagnosed with the TMJ-skull base lesion in Department of Oral Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital from October 2016 to November 2020 were recruited in this study. The maxillofacial CT data for all the patients were obtained and transformed into the Mimics 18.0 software preoperatively. The custom-made TMJ-skull base combined prosthesis, included four components, was designed based on the anatomy, stress distribution and movement of the TMJ and skull base, and fabricated by three-dimensional printing and 5-axis milling technologies. The TMJ-skull base lesion was excised completely with the help of digital templates from modified preauricular and/or post and submandibular incisions. The combined prosthesis were implanted and fixed after the lesion resection. The examinations including general situation, cranio-maxillofacial structure and function were taken during and after surgery to assess its using effect. Results: Ten patients [6 females and 4 males, (43.2±13.6) years old] were included and all prostheses were positioned accurately and fixed excellently. After (29.4±17.3) months follow-up, the occlusion relationship was stable and no adverse symptoms such as dizziness, headache, meningeal irritation and permanent facial nerve injury occurred. The pain, diet, mandibular movement function, lateral movement to diseased side and mouth opening had significant improvements. The forward movement and lateral movement to normal side were not improved significantly. There were no prosthesis displacement, loosening and fracture in X-ray and CT postoperatively. With the pre and postoperative craniomaxillofacial model merging, the maximal implanted error was (0.52±0.17) mm for fossa and condyle and (1.62±0.26) mm for skull base and mandibular handle in surface deviation analysis. Conclusions: The custom-made TMJ-skull base combined prosthesis with customized design and 3D printing fabrication is safe, effective and precise in clinical application.

Eosinophil-to-Neutrophil Ratio Predicts Poor Prognosis of Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Treated With Intravenous Thrombolysis

Background and Purpose: The eosinophil-to-neutrophil ratio (ENR) was recently reported as a novel inflammatory marker in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, few studies reported the predictive value of ENR in AIS patients, especially for those with intravenous thrombolysis.

Methods: Two hundred sixty-six AIS patients receiving intravenous thrombolysis were retrospectively recruited in this study and followed up for 3 months and 1 year. The Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) and the time of death were recorded. Poor outcome was defined as mRS 3–6. After excluding patients who were lost to follow-up, the remaining 250 patients were included in the 3-month prognosis analysis and the remaining 223 patients were included in the 1-year prognosis analysis.

Results: ENR levels in the patients were lower than those in the healthy controls. The optimal cutoff values for the ability of ENR × 10² to predict 3-month poor outcome were 0.74 with 67.8% sensitivity and 77.3% specificity. Patients with ENR × 10² ≥ 0.74 have a lower baseline National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score (median: 7 vs. 11, p < 0.001). After multivariate adjustment, patients with ENR × 10² ≥ 0.74 were more likely to come to a better 3-month outcome (OR = 0.163; 95% CI, 0.076–0.348, p < 0.001). At the 1-year follow-up, the patients with ENR × 10² ≥ 0.74 showed a lower risk of mortality (HR = 0.314; 95% CI, 0.135–0.731; p = 0.007).

Conclusions: A lower ENR is independently associated with a 3-month poor outcome and a 3-month and 1-year mortality in AIS patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis.

[Molluscicidal activity of the Bacillus velezensisis Y6 strain against Oncomelania hupensis and its preliminary mechanisms of molluscicidal actions]

OBJECTIVE

To assess the molluscicidal activity of the of Bacillus Y6 strain against Oncomelania hupensis in laboratory, and to preliminarily investigate its mechanisms of molluscicidal actions.

METHODS

Biological identification of the Y6 strain was performed based on analysis of its morphological and physiochemical features and homology analysis of the 16S rDNA gene sequence. Bacillus Y6 suspensions were formulated at concentrations of 0.005, 0.010 g/mL and 0.015 g/mL, and the molluscicidal activity of Bacillus Y6 suspensions against O. hupensis was tested in laboratory using the immersion method. In addition, the Bacillus Y6 content and glycogen content were detected in O. hupensis following exposure to Bacillus Y6 suspensions to preliminarily explore the molluscicidal mechanism of the Bacillus Y6 strain against O. hupensis.

RESULTS

The colony of the Bacillus Y6 strain appeared non-transparent milky white, and mycoderma was produced on the surface of the nutrient agar liquid medium. The Y6 stain was Gram positive and rod-shaped, and the endospore was located at the center of the Bacillus Y6 strain and appeared an achromatic, transparent and refractive body, which was encapsulated by the Y6 strain. The Y6 strain was positive for the lecithinase test, and the 16S rDNA gene sequence showed a 100% homology with those of multiple B. velezensisis strains, B. amyloliquefaciens and B. subtilis. The Y6 strain was therefore identified as B. velezensisis. Following immersion in the Bacillus Y6 suspensions at concentrations of 0.005, 0.010 g/mL and 0.015 g/mL for 24, 48 h and 72 h, the mortality rates of Oncomelania snails were 28.3%, 31.7% and 81.6%, 43.3%, 58.3% and 93.3%, and 63.3%, 78.3% and 98.3%, respectively. The molluscicidal activity of the Bacillus Y6 suspensions increased with the suspension concentration and duration of immersion. Microscopy and colony counting revealed the highest Y6 content in dead snails and the lowest in living snails following immersion in Bacillus Y6 suspensions, and the mean glycogen contents were (0.68 ± 0.06), (1.09 ± 0.16) μg/mg and (2.56 ± 0.32) μg/mg in the soft tissues of dead, dying and living snails following immersion in Bacillus Y6 suspensions (F = 59.519, P < 0.05), and the mean glycogen content was significantly higher in living snails than in dead (t = 14.073, P < 0.05) and dying snails (t = 10.027, P < 0.05), while the mean glycogen content was significantly higher in dying snails than in dead snails (t = 5.983, P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

The B. velezensisis Y6 strain shows a high molluscicidal activity against O. hupensis snails, and its invasion may cause glycogen metabolism disorders, leading to snail death.

Dynamic Decrease in Eosinophil After Intravenous Thrombolysis Predicts Poor Prognosis of Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Longitudinal Study

Background and Purpose

Blood eosinophil counts are thought to be associated with atherosclerosis in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and AIS severity. We aimed to investigate 1): the temporal profile of eosinophil in AIS patients treated with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA); 2): The association between dynamic eosinophil and 3-month outcomes in different AIS etiologies; 3): incremental predictive ability of dynamic eosinophil adding to conventional model; and 4): the longitudinal change of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and compared its prognostic value with eosinophils.

Methods

A total of 623 AIS patients with intravenous thrombolysis in two hospitals were included. Blood samples were obtained on admission, within 24 h after an intravenous thrombolysis and on the seventh day. A multivariate logistic regression model with restricted cubic spline was performed to explore the association between dynamic eosinophil and a 3-month poor outcome. C-statistic, net reclassification improvement (NRI) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI) were adopted to explore the incremental predictive ability.

Results

Percent change in eosinophil counts after intravenous thrombolysis was median -25.00% (IQR -68.25%-+14.29%). Decrease in eosinophil >75% after intravenous thrombolysis was associated with 2.585 times risk for poor outcome and 13.836 times risk for death. However, the association were weak for patients outside of cardioembolic stroke. Adding eosinophil changes to a conventional model improved the discriminatory ability of poor outcome (NRI = 53.3%; IDI = 2.2%) and death (NRI = 101.0%; IDI = 6.9%).

Conclusions

Dynamic decrease in eosinophil after intravenous thrombolysis predicts a 3-month poor outcome and death in AIS patients with r-tPA treatment and improved the predictive ability of conventional model. However, this result needs to be interpreted carefully in non-cardioembolic AIS patients.

Interpenetrating polysaccharide-based hydrogel: A dynamically responsive versatile medium for precisely controlled synthesis of nanometals

Herein, we reported an interpenetrating polysaccharide-based hydrogel in which carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) chains were physically dispersed throughout the thermoplastic elastomer gel network has been developed as a versatile platform for precisely controlled synthesis of nanometals. Results indicated the interpenetrated CMC chains could serve as multifunctional fillers for metal ions adsorption and stabilization while the thermally reconfigurable agarose (Agar) gel medium provides three-dimensional semi-solid framework for entrapping and recollecting of the fabricated nanometals. Specifically, the CMC chains were found to strongly coordinate with silver ions as a dynamically responsive metal-biopolymer complex within the bulk gel network as confirmed by the enhanced mechanical properties and regulated shape memory performances. Moreover, by varying CMC concentrations and coupling with a layer-stacking approach, multiple biochemical gradients could be facilely generated for in-situ synthesis of silver nanoparticles, achieving a narrow size of ~7 nm, confined sphere-shape and high concentrations. The monodispersed nanometals are confirmed to be highly active (e.g., considerable catalytic performance), and which could be easily recycled from the bulk gel system via a heating treatment. Thus, this work would provide a generic methodology for the multifunctional metallogel assembly and great possibility for controllable and largescale synthesis of noble nanometals toward biomedical applications.

Neutrophil-Related Ratios Predict the 90-Day Outcome in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients After Intravenous Thrombolysis

Background and Purpose

Mounting researches have illuminated that the neutrophil-related ratios were related to the prognosis of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, few have compared their predictive value and accuracy. To make such comparison and identify the best indicator on the 90-day outcome, we investigated biomarkers including neutrophil ratio (Nr), neutrophil count (Nc), lymphocyte (L), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet (P or PLT), platelet-to-neutrophil ratio (PNR), NLR-to-platelet ratio (NLR/PLT), eosinophil (E), neutrophil-to-eosinophil ratio (NER), monocyte (M), and monocyte-to-neutrophil ratio (MNR).

Methods

This retrospective study recruited 283 AIS and 872 healthy controls (HCs) receiving intravenous thrombolysis (IVT). Blood samples were collected after 24 h of admission before IVT. Propensity Score Matching (PSM) was used to explore whether these ratios differentiated AIS and HCs. We applied univariate and multivariate analyses to evaluate the prediction effect of these ratios separately or added in the model and figured out a clinical prediction model. To estimate the discrimination and calibration of the new models, the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis, DeLong method, and likelihood ratio test (LR test) were utilized.

Results

PSM showed that Nr, Nc, NLR, P, PNR, NLR/PLT, NER, and MNR facilitates the differentiation of the HCs and AIS. Among the eight biomarkers, PNR and MNR could differentiate the 90-day outcome, and it was found out that PNR performed better. Univariate regression analysis demonstrated that PNR was the only independent predictor which needs no adjustment. Besides, the multivariate regression analysis, Delong method, and LR test indicated that among the neutrophil-related ratios, NLR, PNR, NLR/PLT, NER, and MNR exerted little influence on the discrimination but could enhance the calibration of the base model, and NER proved to work best.

Conclusion

Low PNR was the best indicator among the neutrophil-related ratios tin predicting a poor 90-day outcome of AIS patients. Moreover, high NER performed best when predicting the 90-day outcome to improve the calibration of the base model.

Optimal Robot-Environment Interaction Under Broad Fuzzy Neural Adaptive Control

This article proposes a novel control strategy based on a broad fuzzy neural network (BFNN) which is subjected to contact with the unknown environment. Compared with the conventional fuzzy neural network (NN), a prominent feature can be achieved by taking the advantage of the broad learning system (BLS) to explicitly tackle the problem of how to choose a sufficient number of NN units to approximate the unknown dynamic model. Aiming at providing a soft compliant contact scheme without the requirement of the environment model, an adaptive impedance learning is developed to establish the optimal interaction between the robot and the environment. Meanwhile, the problems related to the state constraints are addressed by incorporating a barrier Lyapunov function (BLF) into the design of a trajectory tracking controller. The proposed method can achieve desired tracking and interaction performance while guaranteeing the stability of the closed-loop system. In addition, simulation and experimental studies are performed to verify the effectiveness of BFNN under optimal impedance control with a two degree-of-freedom (DOF) manipulator and a Baxter robot, respectively.

Manifestation of cardiac injury in hospitalised patients with COVID-19

BACKGROUND

COVID-19 has been sweeping the world since it emerged in late December 2019. However, little is known about cardiac injury in hospitalised COVID-19 patients. This study is to investigate the incidence and characteristics of myocardial injury in COVID-19 patients admitted in hospital.

METHODS

Fifty-four COVID-19 patients were enrolled in one ward in Tongji Hospital, Wuhan, China, and 5 were excluded caused by missing cardiac troponin I levels. Forty-nine participants were included in the final analysis. The clinical manifestations of hospitalised patients were analysed. Patients were divided into two groups, cardiac injury group and non-cardiac injury group, based on whether cardiac troponin I was elevated. Epidemic characteristics and laboratory test results were analysed in these two group.

RESULTS

The average age of patients in the cardiac injury group was older (68.0 years old) than that in the non-cardiac injury group (61.5 years old). The percentages of patients with diabetes and critically severe pneumonia in the cardiac injury group were 38.5% and 38.5% respectively. Lymphocytes were decreased in 53.1% of all enrolled patients, but this decrease was more prominent (76.9%) in the cardiac injury group than the non-cardiac injury group (44.4%). Patients in the cardiac injury group also had lower platelet counts.

CONCLUSIONS

COVID-19 can cause cardiac injury in many patients. It is more common in older patients and patients with diabetes and is associated with a significant decrease in lymphocytes.

Dynamic Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratios Predict Short-term Prognostic Outcome of Thrombolysis in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke

AIM

The main purpose of this study was to investigate the dynamic changes of neutrophils-lymphocytes ratios (NLRs) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and their relationships with 3-month prognostic outcomes.

METHODS

Two hundred ninety-one patients with AIS were included in this study, followed up for 3 months. At admission, 1 and 7 days after recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA) injection, blood samples were obtained. Outcome events included excellent outcome, good outcome, and death defined as modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores of 0-1, 0-2, and 6 respectively.

RESULTS

NLRs measured in admission and 7 days after r-tPA treatment were associated with prognosis outcome after 3 months. Twenty-four-hour NLR is an excellent indicator in forecasting (excellent outcome's the areas under the curve (AUC) = 0.725; good outcome AUC = 0.742; death AUC = 0.759). In addition, we were surprised to find that dynamic increase in NLR within 24 h is significantly related to excellent and good outcomes.

CONCLUSIONS

Twenty-four-hour NLR is related to the severity of AIS and poor prognosis, which can help early risk stratification.

SIGNIFICANCE

We can predict the prognosis of AIS more accurately. Compared with previous studies, our study has shown the dynamic changes of NLR and its relationship with NIHSS and multiple prognostic.

[Preliminary analysis of intestinal microflora in patients with different severity of OSAHS]

Objective: To analyze the diversity, abundance and structural composition of intestinal microflora in patients with different severity of OSAHS, and to explore their potential role in the occurrence and development of OSAHS. Methods: A total of 27 healthy volunteers(N) [male 19, female 8, age 22-78(44.4±2.7)years old] of Health Examination Center of the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University and 100 patients with OSAHS [male 86, female 14, age 19-78(49.1±1.3) years old] of Sleep Medicine Center of the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University were enrolled from December 2018 to September 2019, and patient-related sleep monitoring data and medical history data were collected.According to the AHI classification and whether there were complications, OSAHS patients were divided into mild group (L), moderate group (M), severe group (S) and severe complication group (SC).Using 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing technology to analyze the intestinal flora of all people, bioinformatics related statistics were analyzed by QIIME2 software, and clinical data were analyzed by SPSS 25.0 software. Results: There was no significant difference in intestinal flora Alpha and Beta diversity among all groups (P>0.05). At phylum level, the relative abundance of Bacteroides in OSAHS group was lower than that in normal group (N group: 24.96%, L group: 18.31%, M group: 12.95%, S group: 15.78%, Sc group: 16.48%). At genus level, the relative abundance of Bacteroides (N group:16.03%, L group: 10.82%, M group: 9.79%, S group: 9.29%, Sc group: 8.25%) and Faecalibacterium (N group: 11.21%, L group: 10.42%, M group: 10.21%, S group: 8.54%, Sc group: 6.27%) were negatively correlated with the severity of OSAHS (the values of r respectively were -0.887, -0.945) while the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium (N group: 3.20%, L group: 2.47%, M group: 4.10%, S group: 4.93%, Sc group: 6.27%) and Blautia (N group: 2.52%, L group: 3.59%, M group: 3.81%, S group: 4.11%, Sc group: 5.86%) were positively correlated with the severity of OSAHS (the values of r respectively were 0.916, 0.940) Compared with the S group, the relative abundance of Roseburia (S group: 10.22%, Sc group: 6.65%) in the Sc is lower and the relative abundance of Shigella(S group: 4.64%, Sc group: 10.01%) is higher. Redundancy analysis (RDA) showed that Apnea hypopnea index (AHI), The lowest oxygen saturation (SpO₂min), The average saturation of blood oxygen (SpO₂mean) and The longest time of apnea (Tmax) were not significantly correlated with the overall abundance of intestinal flora (P>0.05), However, there was a significant correlation between the abundance of different flora and sleep monitoring indicators. Conclusion: There is an intestinal microecological imbalance in patients with OSAHS, mainly due to the reduction of the relative abundance of probiotics producing short-chain fatty acids and the increase of pathogenic bacteria, suggesting that the disturbance of intestinal flora may be related to the occurrence and development of OSAHS.

Fluorinated Oligomer Wrapped Perovskite Crystals for Inverted MAPbI3 Solar Cells with 21% Efficiency and Enhanced Stability

Defects at the grain boundary provide sites for nonradiative recombination in halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here, by polymerization and fluorination of a Lewis acid of 4,4-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)pentanoic acid, a fluorinated oligomer (FO-19) is synthesized and applied to passivate these defects in methlyammonium lead iodide (MAPbI₃). It is demonstrated that the carboxyl bond of FO-19 was coordinated with Pb ions in the perovskite films to achieve a wrapping effect on the perovskite crystals. The defects of perovskite film are effectively passivated, and the undesirable nonradiative recombination is greatly inhibited. As a result, FO-19 gives a power conversion efficiency of 21.23% for the inverted MAPbI₃-based PSCs, which is among the highest reported values in the literature. Meanwhile, the corresponding device with FO-19 exhibits significantly improved humidity and thermal stability. Therefore, this work offers insights into the realization of high-efficiency and stable PSCs through fluorinated additive engineering.

Red cell index: A novel biomarker for 3-month mortality in acute ischemic stroke patients treated with intravenous thrombolysis

BACKGROUND

The red cell index (RCI) was described as a biomarker for evaluating respiratory function in previous studies, but the relationship between RCI and stroke, remained a mystery. The present study aimed to probe the association between RCI at 24-hr and 3-month mortality and functional outcomes among acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients treated with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA).

METHODS

A total of 217 AIS patients between January 2016 and January 2019 were recruited in this retrospective study. AIS patients were grouped in terms of RCI tertiles. Predictive factors were confirmed via multivariate logistic regression analysis. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) was used to assess the ability of RCI in predicting mortality. In addition, the risk of 3-month all-cause mortality was evaluated by Cox proportional hazard model.

RESULTS

We grouped AIS patients into tertiles with the purpose of comparing clinical factors and RCI levels. Multivariate logistic regression analysis presented that RCI (odds ratio [OR] = 1.443, 95% confidence interval [CI] [1.167-1.786], p = 0.001) was an independent biomarker for 3-month all-cause mortality. The best cutoff value of RCI was 2.41 (area under the curve [AUC] = 0.639, 95% CI [0.501-0.778], p = .032), with a sensitivity of 40.9% and a specificity of 89.7%. Cox survival analysis demonstrated a positive significant correlation between RCI (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.332, 95% CI [1.148-1.545], p < .001) and mortality risk.

CONCLUSION

RCI, a potential predictor, was significantly associated with 3-month mortality in AIS patients with r-tPA.

Robust Neurooptimal Control for a Robot via Adaptive Dynamic Programming

We aim at the optimization of the tracking control of a robot to improve the robustness, under the effect of unknown nonlinear perturbations. First, an auxiliary system is introduced, and optimal control of the auxiliary system can be seen as an approximate optimal control of the robot. Then, neural networks (NNs) are employed to approximate the solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi-Isaacs equation under the frame of adaptive dynamic programming. Next, based on the standard gradient attenuation algorithm and adaptive critic design, NNs are trained depending on the designed updating law with relaxing the requirement of initial stabilizing control. In light of the Lyapunov stability theory, all the error signals can be proved to be uniformly ultimately bounded. A series of simulation studies are carried out to show the effectiveness of the proposed control.

Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index Predicts 3-Month Functional Outcome in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Treated with Intravenous Thrombolysis

Background and Purpose

Systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), a novel inflammation index derived from counts of circulating platelets, neutrophils and lymphocytes, has been studied in developing incident cancer. However, the clinical value of SII in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients had not been further investigated. Therefore, we aimed to explore the association between SII and severity of stroke as well as 3-month outcome of AIS patients.

Methods

A total of 216 AIS patients receiving intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and 875 healthy controls (HCs) were retrospectively recruited. Blood samples were collected within 24h after admission. Severity of stroke was assessed by the National Institute of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) scores on admission and poor 3-month functional outcome was defined as Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) > 2.

Results

SII levels in AIS patients were higher than in HCs. The cut-off value of SII is 545.14×10⁹/L. Patients with SII > 545.14×10⁹/L had higher NIHSS scores (median: 5 vs 9, p < 0.001), a positive correlation between SII and NIHSS was observed (rs = 0.305, p < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that high SII was one of the independent risk factors for poor prognosis at 3 months of AIS patients (OR = 3.953, 95% CI = 1.702-9.179, p = 0.001). The addition of SII to the conventional prognostic model improved the reclassification (but not discrimination) of the functional outcome (net reclassification index 39.3%, p = 0.007).

Conclusion

SII is correlated with stroke severity at admission and can be a novel prognostic biomarker for AIS patients treated with IVT.

Combined analysis of metagenomic data revealed consistent changes of gut microbiome structure and function in inflammatory bowel disease

AIMS

To reveal the consistency and discrepancy in the gut microbial structure and function in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients from different regions.

METHODS AND RESULTS

Gut microbes, antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and virulence factors genes (VFGs) were analysed using metagenome data from three cohorts. The abundance of Escherichia coli extensively increased in IBD patients, whereas Subdoligranulum unclassified decreased dramatically in IBD patients from three countries. Escherichia coli showed a positive correlation with multiple ARGs and VFGs in cohorts from China and the United States, including multidrug-related resistance genes and Capsule and LOS-related virulence factors genes. Escherichia coli biofilm synthesis pathways significantly enriched in IBD patients from three different regions. Notably, Subdoligranulum unclassified and Eubacterium hallii were negatively related to ARGs and VFGs.

CONCLUSIONS

Consistent changes of microbiome structure and function were observed in IBD patients from three different regions. As pathogenic bacteria, E. coli may accelerate IBD progression through encapsulation in biofilms by upregulating antibiotic resistance in Crohn's disease patients. Subdoligranulum unclassified and E. hallii may be beneficial for IBD patients and could serve as potential probiotics for IBD treatment.

SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY

This work dispels worries about the regional differences in gut microbial changes in IBD patients and provides useful guidance for more rational microbiome-based therapies.

Effects of inflammatory response on renal function and TGF-β1 pathway of rats with aging-related kidney damage by upregulating the expression of CD36

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of inflammatory response on renal function and TGF-β1 pathway of rats with aging-related kidney damage by upregulating the CD36 expression.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

A total of 70 pathogen free (PF) Sprague-Dawley (SD) male rats were enrolled. The rats injected with normal saline and D-galactose were assigned to a control group and a model group, respectively. Those injected with both D-galactose and different concentrations of casein were assigned to casein A, B, and C groups accordingly, and 16 rats injected with D-galactose and with CD36 gene knocked out were assigned to a treatment group. The following methods were employed to determine the following factors of the rats: ELISA for serum inflammatory factors, Western blot for CD36 in kidney tissues, Real Time-PCR for TGF-β1, and Smad (2, 3, and 7) mRNA, radioimmunoassay for hyaluronic acid (HA) and laminin (LN), and colorimetry for the expression quantity of plasma superoxide dismutase (SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA). An automatic biochemical analyzer was used to determine blood, urine, and renal function indexes.

RESULTS

After successful modeling, the model group showed significantly higher inflammatory indexes than the control group. The relative expression of CD36 in the model group was significantly higher than that in the control group and treatment group, and significantly lower than that in the casein groups. Both inflammatory indexes and relative expression of CD36 increased with the increase of casein concentration in the casein groups. Groups with severer inflammatory response showed higher renal function indexes, and higher expression of TGF-β1, Smad2, Smad3, HA, LN, and MDA, and those with decreased CD36 level showed lower renal function index levels. The Smad7 expression and SOD were contrary.

CONCLUSIONS

Inflammatory stress can promote the CD36 expression in renal tissues of aging rats and oxidative stress and affect TGF-β1/Smad pathway, thus aggravating renal fibrosis and renal damage in rats.

Immunomodulatory effects of IL-33 and IL-25 in an ovalbumin-induced allergic rhinitis mouse model

Both interleukin (IL)-33 and IL-25 induce Th2-type cytokine production by various cell types, suggesting that they may contribute to development of allergic disorders, however, the immunomodulatory effects of IL-33 and IL-25 in ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic rhinitis (AR) remain unclear. In the present study, anti-IL-33 and anti-IL-25 Abs were administrated intranasally during rechallenge in OVA-induced AR. Immunomodulatory effects were evaluated by measuring nasal rubbing, sneezing occurrence, serum OVA-specific antibodies, Th2 immune responses, neutrophil, eosinophil and mast cell recruitment into the nasal mucosa. We found that treatment with anti-IL-33 Ab markedly reduced nasal rubbing, sneezing events, Th2 immune responses, serum OVA-specific IgE and IgG1 levels, mucosal neutrophil, eosinophil and mast cell infiltration. In contrast, the effect of IL-25 antagonism was limited to attenuating the Th2 immune responses, and neutrophil and eosinophil infiltration. These observations indicate that IL-33 and IL-25 play a pathogenic role in an established AR mouse model, with a greater contribution of IL-33 than IL-25. Our findings suggest that IL-33 neutralization may be a potential approach for treatment of AR.

Iterative learning-based path control for robot-assisted upper-limb rehabilitation

In robot-assisted rehabilitation, the performance of robotic assistance is dependent on the human user’s dynamics, which are subject to uncertainties. In order to enhance the rehabilitation performance and in particular to provide a constant level of assistance, we separate the task space into two subspaces where a combined scheme of adaptive impedance control and trajectory learning is developed. Human movement speed can vary from person to person and it cannot be predefined for the robot. Therefore, in the direction of human movement, an iterative trajectory learning approach is developed to update the robot reference according to human movement and to achieve the desired interaction force between the robot and the human user. In the direction normal to the task trajectory, human’s unintentional force may deteriorate the trajectory tracking performance. Therefore, an impedance adaptation method is utilized to compensate for unknown human force and prevent the human user drifting away from the updated robot reference trajectory. The proposed scheme was tested in experiments that emulated three upper-limb rehabilitation modes: zero interaction force, assistive and resistive. Experimental results showed that the desired assistance level could be achieved, despite uncertain human dynamics.

The Impact of ABCB1 and CES1 Polymorphisms on Dabigatran Pharmacokinetics in Healthy Chinese Subjects

Dabigatran is a novel direct oral anticoagulant agent, whose plasma concentration is closely related to bleeding risk. Genetic polymorphisms can affect the level of plasma dabigatran. The purpose of this study was to understand the relationship between dabigatran-related genes and the plasma level of dabigatran in healthy Chinese subjects after taking a single oral dose. This study was performed with a single-center, single-dose, randomized, open-label, and four-period crossover trial design under both fasting and fed conditions. A total of 106 eligible healthy subjects were enrolled in the study and 104 were genotyped. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to compare pharmacokinetic parameters among different genotypes and linear regression was applied to explore the multiplicative interaction between variables. In this study, we found that the genotype frequencies of CES1 rs2244613 and CES1 rs8192935 were significantly different between Chinese and Caucasians, but the genotype frequencies of ABCB1 rs1045642 and ABCB1 rs4148738 were similar in both populations. CES1 rs8192935 were associated with the peak concentration of dabigatran. There was no significant gender difference in the exposure level of dabigatran. Furthermore, food significantly delayed the absorption of dabigatran but had little effect on C_max and AUC_0-∞.

Global Polarization of Ξ and Ω Hyperons in Au+Au Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200 GeV

Global polarization of Ξ and Ω hyperons has been measured for the first time in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=200  GeV. The measurements of the Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+} hyperon polarization have been performed by two independent methods, via analysis of the angular distribution of the daughter particles in the parity violating weak decay Ξ→Λ+π, as well as by measuring the polarization of the daughter Λ hyperon, polarized via polarization transfer from its parent. The polarization, obtained by combining the results from the two methods and averaged over Ξ^{-} and Ξ[over ¯]^{+}, is measured to be ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩=0.47±0.10(stat)±0.23(syst)% for the collision centrality 20%-80%. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to be slightly larger than the inclusive Λ polarization and in reasonable agreement with a multiphase transport model. The ⟨P_{Ξ}⟩ is found to follow the centrality dependence of the vorticity predicted in the model, increasing toward more peripheral collisions. The global polarization of Ω, ⟨P_{Ω}⟩=1.11±0.87(stat)±1.97(syst)% was obtained by measuring the polarization of daughter Λ in the decay Ω→Λ+K, assuming the polarization transfer factor C_{ΩΛ}=1.

Bayesian Estimation of Human Impedance and Motion Intention for Human-Robot Collaboration

This article proposes a Bayesian method to acquire the estimation of human impedance and motion intention in a human-robot collaborative task. Combining with the prior knowledge of human stiffness, estimated stiffness obeying Gaussian distribution is obtained by Bayesian estimation, and human motion intention can be also estimated. An adaptive impedance control strategy is employed to track a target impedance model and neural networks are used to compensate for uncertainties in robotic dynamics. Comparative simulation results are carried out to verify the effectiveness of estimation method and emphasize the advantages of the proposed control strategy. The experiment, performed on Baxter robot platform, illustrates a good system performance.

Physical Human-Robot Collaboration: Robotic Systems, Learning Methods, Collaborative Strategies, Sensors, and Actuators

This article presents a state-of-the-art survey on the robotic systems, sensors, actuators, and collaborative strategies for physical human-robot collaboration (pHRC). This article starts with an overview of some robotic systems with cutting-edge technologies (sensors and actuators) suitable for pHRC operations and the intelligent assist devices employed in pHRC. Sensors being among the essential components to establish communication between a human and a robotic system are surveyed. The sensor supplies the signal needed to drive the robotic actuators. The survey reveals that the design of new generation collaborative robots and other intelligent robotic systems has paved the way for sophisticated learning techniques and control algorithms to be deployed in pHRC. Furthermore, it revealed the relevant components needed to be considered for effective pHRC to be accomplished. Finally, a discussion of the major advances is made, some research directions, and future challenges are presented.

Electrochemical synthesis of chitosan/silver nanoparticles multilayer hydrogel coating with pH-dependent controlled release capability and antibacterial property

By coupling in situ electrochemical synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with the pre-deposited chitosan multilayer hydrogel, a novel type of nanocomposite coating was successfully fabricated on the stainless-steel needle electrode. Experimental results demonstrated the chitosan film can serve as a versatile medium for metal salt adsorption and stabilization, and finally electrochemical reduction of loaded silver ions to nanoparticles. The AgNPs were fabricated with a spherical shape and an average size of ∼15 nm endowing considerable antibacterial property to the hydrogel. Furthermore, the unique layered architecture consisted of porous segments and compact boundaries is almost retained, resulting in a pH-dependent and staged release pattern of silver nanoparticles based on acid triggered dissolution of the multi-membrane layer by layer. Thus, considering the mild synthesizing approach, multi-functionalities and relatively low cytotoxicity, this antibacterial hydrogel would show great potential either to be used as a newly coating material for interfacial improvement of implants or as a free-standing film after being peeled off for wound dressing.

121 Mediating Factors Between Caregiver Burden and Quality of Life in Caregivers of Older Patients with Newly Diagnosed Lung Cancer

Introduction

Family caregivers of older patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer become responsible for patients’ care, usually without preparation or training in provision of care. Their efforts of care generate caregiving burden, which could deteriorate their quality of life and affect the prognosis of patients. The aims of this study were to examine associations between caregiver burden and quality of life, coping, social support for family caregivers, and to investigate whether coping and social support mediate associations between family caregiver burden and their quality of life.

Methods

A cross-sectional study was performed at two thoracic surgery wards in one tertiary hospital in Changsha, China from November 2019 to May 2020. This study involved 224 family caregivers of patients aged over 50 years and newly diagnosed with lung cancer. Caregivers-reported outcomes were measured by Zarit caregiver burden interview, simplified coping style questionnaire, social support rating scale, and quality of life family version. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the hypothesized mediation model.

Results

SEM indicated a good fit for the mediation model, which explained 49.7% of the variance of quality of life. Higher level of caregivers’ burden was negatively associated with quality of life (r = 0.183, P = 0.042). Coping partially mediated the effect of caregiver burden on quality of life (indirect effect −0.389, P = 0.000). Social support did not mediate the relationship between caregiver burden and quality of life (indirect effect −0.023, P = 0.087).

Conclusions

Caregivers’ burden of patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer is correlated to quality of life which is partially mediated by coping. Early intervention providing caregivers with positive coping strategies may improve their quality of life.

83 A Medication Self-Management Intervention to Improve Medication Adherence For Older People with Multimorbidity: A Pilot Study

Introduction

Medication self-management support has been recognised as an essential element in primary health care to promote medication adherence and health outcomes for older people with chronic conditions. A patient-centred intervention empowering patients and supporting medication self-management activities could benefit older people. This pilot study tested a newly developed medication self-management intervention for improving medication adherence among older people with multimorbidity.

Method

This was a two-arm randomised controlled trial. Older people with multimorbidity were recruited from a community healthcare centre in Changsha, China. Participants were randomly allocated to either a control group receiving usual care (n = 14), or to an intervention group receiving three face-to-face medication self-management sessions and two follow-up phone calls over six weeks, targeting behavioural determinants of adherence from the Information-Motivation-Behavioural skills model (n = 14). Feasibility was assessed through recruitment and retention rates, outcome measures collection, and intervention implementation. Follow-up data were measured at six weeks after baseline using patient-reported outcomes including medication adherence, medication self-management capabilities, treatment experiences, and quality of life. Preliminary effectiveness of the intervention was explored using generalised estimating equations.

Results

Of the 72 approached participants, 28 (38.89%) were eligible for study participation. In the intervention group, 13 participants (92.86%) completed follow-up and 10 (71.42%) completed all intervention sessions. Ten participants (71.42%) in the control group completed follow-up. The intervention was found to be acceptable by participants and the intervention nurse. Comparing with the control group, participants in the intervention group showed significant improvements in medication adherence (β = 0.26, 95%CI 0.12, 0.40, P &lt; 0.001), medication knowledge (β = 4.43, 95%CI 1.11, 7.75, P = 0.009), and perceived necessity of medications (β = −2.84, 95%CI -5.67, −0.01, P = 0.049) at follow-up.

Conclusions

The nurse-led medication self-management intervention is feasible and acceptable among older people with multimorbidity. Preliminary results showed that the intervention may improve patients’ medication knowledge and beliefs and thus lead to improved adherence.

Construction of an MnO2 nanosheet array 3D integrated electrode for sensitive enzyme-free glucose sensing

MnO₂ based electrochemical enzyme-free glucose sensors remain significantly limited by their low electronic conductivity and associated complex preparation. In this paper, an MnO₂ nanosheet array supported on nickel foam (MnO₂ NS/NF) was prepared using a simple hydrothermal synthesis and employed as a 3D integrated electrode for enzyme-free glucose detection. It was found that MnO₂ NS/NF shows high performance with a wide linear range from 1 μM to 1.13 mM, a high sensitivity of 6.45 mA mM^-1 cm^-2, and a low detection limit of 0.5 μM (S/N = 3). Besides, MnO₂ NS/NF shows high selectivity against common interferences and good reliability for glucose detection in human serum. This work demonstrates the promising role of MnO₂ NS/NF as an efficient integrated electrode in enzyme-free glucose detection with high performance.

A Non-inferiority, Randomized Clinical Trial Comparing Paclitaxel-Coated Balloon Versus New-Generation Drug-Eluting Stents on Angiographic Outcomes for Coronary De Novo Lesions

Background

Drug-coated balloon (DCB) has been proved efficacy for coronary small vessel disease, but data regarding outcomes of DCB in common de novo lesions (including reference vessel diameter more than 3.0mm) compared with new-generation drug-eluting stent (DES) are lacking. We hypothesized that a DCB-only strategy for coronary de novo lesions would be non-inferior to DES treatment on angiographic outcomes.

Methods

In this randomized controlled trial, we compared the effect of DCB with DES on late lumen loss (LLL) at 9-month angiographic follow-up and 12-month major adverse cardiac events (MACEs), including death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, target lesion revascularization (TLR), and target vessel revascularization (TVR).

Results

From July 2017 to July 2018, 288 consecutive patients with reference vessel diameter (RVD) between 2.25 and 4.0mm were screened. After proper pre-dilation, 170 patients were enrolled and randomized to the DCB and the DES groups at 1:1 ratio. Seven patients withdrew the consent forms during hospital stay (1 in DCB group, 6 in DES group). Two patients in DCB group underwent bailout stenting due to severe dissection after DCB release. The primary endpoint of 9-month LLL was −0.19±0.49mm with the DCB versus 0.03±0.64mm with the DES. The one-sided 97.5% upper confidence limit of the difference was −0.04mm, achieving non-inferiority of the DCB compared with the DES (P=0.019). The 12-month cumulative MACE rate was similar in the DCB and DES groups (2.44% vs. 6.33%, P=0.226).

Conclusions

In this prospective study, the DCB only strategy for de novo lesion was non-inferior to the new-generation DES in terms of 9-month late lumen loss.

Nonmonotonic Energy Dependence of Net-Proton Number Fluctuations

Nonmonotonic variation with collision energy (sqrt[s_{NN}]) of the moments of the net-baryon number distribution in heavy-ion collisions, related to the correlation length and the susceptibilities of the system, is suggested as a signature for the quantum chromodynamics critical point. We report the first evidence of a nonmonotonic variation in the kurtosis times variance of the net-proton number (proxy for net-baryon number) distribution as a function of sqrt[s_{NN}] with 3.1  σ significance for head-on (central) gold-on-gold (Au+Au) collisions measured solenoidal tracker at Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Data in noncentral Au+Au collisions and models of heavy-ion collisions without a critical point show a monotonic variation as a function of sqrt[s_{NN}].

Improvement of the passive efficiency calibration of the segmented gamma scanner

The Segmented Gamma Scanner(SGS) technology is specially used for type identification and activity quantitative analysis of radioactive material in sealed containers, which mainly divided into the transmission measurement and the emission measurement. In actual measurement process, it cannot meet the need for rapid analysis because the efficiency calibration time takes up more than 60% of the whole detect time in the data analysis. Whereas most previous research have focused on theory or specific applications, this research groups aim to different aspects of the SGS technique and direct it at an audience with interests in the need for rapid analysis. The Monte Carlo simulation calculation models were established by the passive efficiency calibration method, and then the detection efficiency database was carried out based on the experimental verification. Lots of work was used to analysis the influence of crosstalk between layers and interpolation step. Furthermore, the database was implanted into the control and analysis system to complete the measurement experiments. The results show the measuring time of single waste drums is about 30 min, and the average relative deviation is less than 10%, so the problem that the time taken to calibrate the detection efficiency is too long has been solved effectively. The efficiency in the use of SGS technology has been increased.

Do sex hormone imbalances contribute to idiopathic condylar resorption?

Idiopathic condylar resorption (ICR) is an aggressive form of temporomandibular joint disease that most frequently presents in adolescent girls during the pubertal growth spurt. Although numerous studies have indicated that the etiopathogenesis of ICR may be related to estrogen deficiency, the decisive role of estrogens remains controversial, and other sex hormone disturbances have not yet been investigated in this regard. Therefore, the aim of this study was to ascertain the role of serum estrogen levels and also the roles of other sex hormones in the pathogenesis of ICR. Ninety-four ICR patients and 324 disc displacement (DD) patients, of both sexes, were enrolled. Information on menstruation and serum levels of follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, prolactin, 17β-estradiol (E2), testosterone, and progesterone were recorded and analyzed. The results showed that female ICR patients had normal puberty onset, within the average age range. Use of oral contraceptives and other menstruation-regulating pharmaceuticals was similar in the two groups. Of note, neither serum E2 levels nor those of the other sex hormones differed significantly between female ICR and DD patients. However, male ICR patients had significantly increased serum testosterone levels (P=0.002) and relatively higher E2 levels (P=0.095) compared to DD patients. This study found that reduced serum E2 did not contribute to ICR; instead, systemic testosterone disturbances were found to be related to ICR.

[Expert consensus on the treatment of oral and maxillofacial space infections]

Oral and maxillofacial space infections (OMSI) are common diseases of the facial region involving fascial spaces. Recently, OMSI shows trends of multi drug-resistance, severe symptoms, and increased mortality. OMSI treatment principles need to be updated to improve the cure rate. Based on the clinical experiences of Chinese experts and with the incorporation of international counterparts' expertise, the principles of preoperative checklist, interpretation of examination results, empirical medication principles, surgical treatment principles, postoperative drainage principles, prevention strategies of wisdom teeth pericoronitis-related OMSI, blood glucose management, physiotherapy principles, Ludwig's angina treatment and perioperative care were systematically summarized and an expert consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of OMSI was reached. The consensus aims to provide criteria for the diagnosis and treatment of OMSI in China so as to improve the level of OMSI treatment.

[Impact of temporomandibular joint arthroscopic discopexy on condylar growth in adolescents: a retrospective cohort study]

Objective: To compare changes of condylar height, disc length and displaced distance in adolescent temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc displacement with or without arthroscopic discopexy. Methods: From September 2015 to November 2018, adolescents with magnetic resonance image (MRI) comfirmed disc displacement without reduction (DDwoR) were recruited in operation group (OG) and control group (CG) and were classified into five subgroups according to age (11-14 years, 15-16 years, 17-18 years, 19-20 years and 21-24 years). Changes of condylar height, disc length and displaced distance were measured before and after follow-up MRI. Student's t-test, Welch's t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, One-way ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis test were used; P-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: One hundred and seventy two patients were recruited in the present study. One hundred and twenty six cases patients (183 joints, 17 males, 109 females, mean age 17.4±3.0 years) were in OG and 119 patients (175 joints, 20 male, 99 females, mean age 17.1±3.1) in CG. The mean follow-up time were 8.4 (2.7-22.0) and 9.5 (3.0-22.1) months respectively. Average condylar height changes of OG were significantly greater than CG (1.3±1.8 mm vs -0.6±1.5 mm, P<0.001) and differences were also seen in each age group (P<0.001). In terms of age variations, average increase of condylar height in OG were (2.4±2.2) mm, (1.3±1.7) mm, (1.6±1.7) mm, (0.8±1.9) mm, (0.4±1.1) mm respectively (P<0.001), differences were observed between 11-14 years vs 19-20 years (P<0.05), 11-14 years vs 21-24 years (P<0.01) and 17-18 years vs 21-24 years (P<0.01) subgroups; and average changes in CG were (-0.7±1.6) mm, (-0.4±1.6) mm, (-0.8±1.5) mm, (-0.3±1.4) mm and (-0.9±1.5) mm respectively (P>0.05). After follow-up in CG, further displaced disc was observed (P<0.05) while disc length remained unchanged (P>0.05). Conclusions: DDwoR in adolescents resulted in decreased TMJ condylar height while arthroscopic discopexy restored growth potential and promoted condylar new bone formation which was most prominent during growth period.

Two-Dimensional Speckle Tracking Echocardiography Identifies Coronary Artery Disease in 690 Patients: A Retrospective Study from a Single Center

BACKGROUND Two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) is a novel and non-invasive technique for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease (CAD). This retrospective study from a single center aimed to identify myocardial ischemia using 2D-STE in CAD patients identified by angiography. MATERIAL AND METHODS From March 1 to November 30, 2019, 690 patients in Beijing Hospital were enrolled. After angiography, 346 patients were diagnosed with CAD. Reduction in vessel diameter of ≥50% by stenosis in at least 1 major coronary artery or its main branch was considered CAD. Analysis of 2D-STE was performed using EchoPAC version 201. RESULTS The global strain was significantly impaired in CAD patients (P<0.01). Global longitudinal peak strain (GLPS) was analyzed in layers. For GLPS of the epicardium, the odds ratio (OR) was 1.297 (1.217-1.382; P=0.002), the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.727, and the cut-off value was -16.95; sensitivity and specificity were 73.7% and 63.0%, respectively. For GLPS of the middle layer, the OR was 1.260 (1.192-1.333; P<0.001), the AUC was 0.732, and the cut-off value was -20.95; sensitivity and specificity were 82.4% and 56.2%, respectively. For GLPS of the endocardium, the OR was 1.193 (1.137-1.251; P<0.001), the AUC was 0.708, and the cut-off value was -22.95; sensitivity and specificity were 82.9% and 52.9%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS The findings from this study support the clinical application of 2D-STE in patient populations with suspected myocardial ischemia due to CAD. Therefore, 2D-STE combined with ECG monitoring may have a future role for early screening of CAD patients.
