Abstract
The prevalence of prostate cancer emphasizes the need for improved therapeutic options, particularly for metastatic disease. Current treatment includes medical or surgical castration, which initially induces apoptosis of prostate cancer cells, but ultimately an androgen-independent subpopulation emerges. In addition to a transient therapeutic effect, androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT) can initiate biochemical events that may contribute to the development of and progression to an androgen-independent state. This transition involves multiple signal transduction pathways that are accompanied by many biochemical changes resulting from ADT. These molecular events themselves are therapeutic targets and serve as a rationale for adjunctive treatment at the time of ADT.

Abstract
The development of solid state fermentation (SSF) technology is very important to the production of cellulase and ultimately to the utilization of natural cellulose. However, inadequate dissipation of heat generated by biological activities has prevented solid state fermentation from large-scale applications. The paper deals with the development of a novel SSF bioreactor with air pressure pulsation. By developing a measurement and control system under Virtual Instrument (VI) concept, performance of SSF bioreactor with pressure pulsation was studied by cultivating Trichoderma koningii in solid medium made of wheat bran and corncob. The cooling effects of pressure pulsation on solid porous beds are discussed. Experimental results show that pressure pulsation enhances medium moisture evaporation, and hence, heat dissipation. Furthermore, through changing the pressure pulsation directions, it is able to mitigate the temperature gradients in the bioreactor. To sum up, pressure pulsation can provide the microbes with a growing environment at optimal temperature and medium water content.

Abstract
The cellular signaling pathways of the prostate play a central role in the induction, maintenance, and progression of prostate cancer (CaP). Neuroendocrine (NE) cells demonstrate attributes that suggest they are an integral part of these signaling cascades. We summarize what is known regarding NE cells in CaP focusing on NE cellular transdifferentiation. This significant event in CaP progression appears to be accelerated by androgen deprivation (AD) treatment. We examine biochemical pathways that may impact NE differentiation in a chronological manner focusing on AD therapy (ADT) as a central event in inducing androgen-independent CaP. Our analysis is limited to the common adenocarcinoma pattern of CaP and excludes small-cell and carcinoid prostatic variants. In conclusion, we speculate on the future of treatment and research in this area.

Abstract
Racial minorities generally exhibit worse health status than do whites. To assess the presence of similar phenomena among long-term cocaine-using veterans, this study examined racial variations in mortality and health status among cocaine-dependent men who were originally recruited at their admissions to cocaine treatment in 1988-1989 and were interviewed approximately 12 years later in 2002-2003. Mortality was higher among whites (15%) than blacks (6%), particularly due to drug overdose. Controlling for socioeconomic factors, cocaine severity, and depression, the racial difference was still significant in the survival analysis. Racial differences were examined in the health status of those interviewed in the 12-year follow-up study (178 blacks and 65 whites), after confirmation of their comparable socioeconomic backgrounds and levels of healthcare access and utilization. Contrary to expectations, few racial differences were found on most health indicators, although the level of cocaine use was higher among blacks. Furthermore, fewer blacks reported having hepatitis or sexually transmitted diseases than did whites. The study results suggest that black cocaine-dependent veterans do not have worse health status when compared with white veterans on most health indicators.

Abstract
In situ transmission electron microscopy observations of the oxidation of (001) Cu-Au alloys indicate that the Cu2O islands that form undergo a remarkable transformation from an initially compact morphology to a dendritic structure as growth proceeds. Correspondingly, the surface composition becomes nonuniform and the fractal dimension associated with the islands evolves from 2.0 to a stable value of 1.87, indicating a transition in the rate-limiting mechanism of oxidation from oxygen surface diffusion to diffusion of copper through the increasingly gold-rich regions adjacent to the islands.

Abstract
A novel custom bead array technology is introduced, and it is applied to multiplexed analysis of highly polymorphic human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genetic loci. Our technology combines the construction of probe libraries on color-encoded microparticles (beads) with semiconductor chip processing to produce custom-designed high-density bead array chips in large quantities. Using this novel assay format, two modes of parallel molecular typing of the HLA complex were implemented, namely direct hybridization, illustrated here for class II HLA-DR, and a novel format of on-chip polymerase-mediated primer elongation, illustrated here for class I HLA-A, HLA-B, and HLA-DR using patient and reference cell-line DNA samples. Hybridization-mediated multiplexed analysis of polymorphism method was validated with 142 samples, resulting in 100% concordance with sequence-specific oligonucleotide typing results and a concomitant average of 40% less allele ambiguity. In addition, elongation and hybridization reactions were combined to identify multiple polymorphisms on the same phase of DNA for allele identification.

Abstract
For molecular electronics to become a viable technology the factors that control charge transport across a metal-molecule-metal junction need to be elucidated. We use an experimentally simple crossed-wire tunnel junction to interrogate how factors such as metal-molecule coupling, molecular structure, and the choice of metal electrode influence the current-voltage characteristics of a molecular junction.

Abstract
The absorption and accumulation of Cd2+, Fe3+, Zn2+, Mn2+, Cu2+ and Mg2+ in the roots and leaves of 20 rice cultivars (Oryza sativa L.) with different genotypes under cadmium (Cd) stress were investigated with pot experiments. The results showed that there existed significant differences among the rice cultivars in the contents of six mineral elements in both roots and leaves at both heading and ripening periods. The statistical analysis showed that, for their contents in roots, significant and positive correlations between Cd2+ and Fe3+, Cd2+ and Zn2+, Cd2+ and Mn2+, Cd2+ and Cu2+ existed, but no significant correlation between Cd2+ and Mg2+, at the two periods. In the leaves, Cd also showed significant and positive correlations with Fe3+, Zn2+ and Cu2+ at the both periods, but a significant and negative correlation with Mn2+ and no significant correlation with Mg2+ at heading, a significant and positive correlation with Mg2+ and no significant correlation with Mn2+ at ripening. These results suggested that there were cooperative absorption between Cd2+ and Fe3+, Mn2+, Cu2+, Mn2+ in rice plants. Genotypic differences in Cd uptake and translocation among the rice cultivars suggested that paddy field of some rice cultivars may be irrigated with partially treated sewage water.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Graham et al. [Lancet, I (1987) 1174] found a late increase of 13C enrichment in the 13C-urea breath test 120 min after administration of labeled urea to patients without Helicobacter pylori infection. This may give false positive results. AIM We designed this study to elucidate the contribution of the gastrointestinal tract below the stomach to the 13C-urea breath test. PATIENTS Twenty-eight patients with dyspeptic symptoms who gave their consent were enrolled. METHODS Patients underwent the 13C-urea breath tests both via the mouth (as usual) and the duodenum (labeled urea introduced to the second portion). Breath samples were collected at baseline, 5, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 150 and 180 min for analysis. H. pylori status was defined by the CLOtest and by histological examination. RESULTS There was no late increase in 13C enrichment of 13C-urea breath test for eight H. pylori negative patients either via the mouth or the duodenum. For those H. pylori positive patients, seventeen had no late rise 13C enrichment of the 13C-urea breath test via the duodenum and three patients had a rise after 15 min. CONCLUSIONS No late rise in 13CO2 excretion to cause a positive 13C-urea breath test up to 180 min after the administration of labeled urea was found in the present study.

Abstract
Once metastatic, prostate cancer (CaP) treatment options are limited to androgen withdrawal. In this environment, the cells often develop an androgen independent state resulting in patient demise. It has been shown that during this transition, CaP cells transdifferentiate to neuroendocrine cells, which produce neuropeptides. These neuropeptides have a mitogenic effect on surrounding CaP cells. Previous observations suggest that endothelial cells may show a similar mitogenic response to neuropeptides, implicating angiogenesis in the progression of CaP. We stimulated human umbilical endothelial cells (HUVECs) with the neuropeptides bombesin and neurotensin and measured proliferation, migration, cell tube formation, and tyrosine kinase activation. In our studies, neurotensin and bombesin did not stimulate HUVEC proliferation, migration, nor tube formation. Although HUVECs express the non-receptor tyrosine kinases Fak, Src, and Etk which mediate neuropeptide signaling in CaP, they are not activated by neuropeptides in HUVECs.

Abstract
Charge transport studies across molecular length scales under symmetric and asymmetric metal-molecule contact conditions using a simple crossed-wire tunnel junction technique are presented. It is demonstrated that oligo(phenylene ethynylene), a conjugated organic molecule, acts like a molecular wire under symmetric contact conditions, but exhibits characteristics of a molecular diode when the connections are asymmetric. To understand this behavior, we have calculated current-voltage (I-V) characteristics using extended Huckel theory coupled with a Green's function approach. The experimentally observed I-V characteristics are in excellent qualitative agreement with the theory.

Abstract
We report the identification of a previously undetected Xenopus laevis egg envelope component discovered through cloning experiments. A cDNA sequence was found that represented a mature protein of 32 kDa. Peptide antibodies were generated to probe for the protein in egg envelope samples and reactivity was found to a glycoprotein of approximately 80 kDa. When deglycosylated egg envelope samples were probed, a 32 kDa protein was labeled, confirming the size of the translated cDNA sequence. A BLAST analysis showed that it is most closely related (34% amino acid identity) to the ZP domains of mammalian tectorin, uromodulin and ZPA. From a dendrogram of known egg envelope glycoproteins, the new glycoprotein was shown to be unique among egg envelope components and was designated ZPD. A similar glycoprotein was identified by immunocrossreactivity in Xenopus tropicalis and Xenopus borealis egg envelopes.

Abstract
Urokinase-type plasminogen activator (u-PA) contributes to tumor progression in prostate cancer (CaP). We have previously shown that u-PA expression is upregulated through the AP-1 and PEA3 sites and repressed by androgen. However, signaling pathways mediating u-PA gene expression in CaP are not delineated. We hypothesized that MAPK pathways mediate u-PA in CaP, and thereby studied specific ERK, JNK, and P38-MAPK pathway mutant constructs and inhibitors in vitro. Human, androgen insensitive CaP PC3 cells stably transfected with the androgen receptor expression vector and vector alone were used. A u-PA promoter CAT vector transiently expressed with dominant negative mutant signaling constructs was studied. All mutants drastically reduced u-PA promoter activity. Furthermore, inhibition of PI3K, an upstream regulator in the JNK/SAPK pathway, decreased u-PA promoter transcription. Collectively, these results show that MAPK pathways ERK, JNK/SAPK, and P38-MAPK represent a significant component in the regulation of u-PA expression in human CaP.

Abstract
u-PA contributes to CaP progression, especially in the metastatic androgen-insensitive state. In vitro, u-PA is expressed by androgen-insensitive, but not androgen-sensitive, CaP cell lines. We hypothesized that in androgen-sensitive CaP an activated ARE represses u-PA expression but in androgen-insensitive CaP this repression is lost and u-PA is upregulated through MAP kinase signaling pathways. To determine whether binding of the DHT-AR complex to AREs in the u-PA promoter region represses u-PA transcription in androgen-sensitive CaP, we studied 2 PC3 androgen-insensitive human CaP cell lines stably transfected with AR [PC3(AR)(2) and PC3(AR)(13)] and 1 mock-transfected cell line [PC3(M)]. In the presence of the synthetic androgen mibolerone, both PC3(AR)(2) and PC3(AR)(13), but not PC3(M), cells showed decreased u-PA expression as assayed by Western and Northern blotting. The AR inhibitor flutamide abrogated mibolerone's effect. Androgen regulation of a second gene, PSA, was also demonstrated in the PC3(AR)(2) cell line. To explore the pathway stimulating u-PA expression in CaP, we performed transient transfections in PC3(AR)(2) cells using u-PA promoter-regulated CAT reporter constructs. Compared to full-length u-PA promoter-CAT constructs, either deletion or mutation of the 5' AP-1 or PEA3 site reduced CAT expression. The location of androgen responsiveness in the u-PA promoter was not identified through the combination of promoter search and transient transfection assays, indicating that a more complicated mechanism is involved in the AR-mediated downmodulation of u-PA expression.

Abstract
Infection is a major complication when using biomaterials such as polyurethane in the clinical setting. The purpose of this study was to develop a novel infection resistant polyurethane biomaterial using textile dyeing technology. This procedure results in incorporation of the antibiotic into the polymer, resulting in a slow, sustained release of antibiotic from the material over time, without the use of exogenous binder agents. Polycarbonate based urethanes were synthesized that contained either a non-ionic (bdPU) or anionic (cPU) chain extender within the polymer backbone and cast into films. The fluoroquinolone antibiotic ciprofloxacin (Cipro) was applied to bdPU and cPU using textile dyeing technology, with Cipro uptake determined by absorbance reduction of the "dyebath." These dyed bdPU/cPU samples were then evaluated for prolonged Cipro release and antimicrobial activity by means of spectrophotometric and zone of inhibition assays, respectively. Cipro release and antimicrobial activity by dyed cPU segments that were aggressively washed persisted over 9 days, compared with dyed bdPU and dipped cPU control segments that lasted < 24 hours. Dyed cPU segments, which remained in a static wash solution, maintained antimicrobial activity for 11 days (length of study), whereas controls again lost antimicrobial activity within 24 hours. Thus, application of Cipro to the cPU polymer by means of dyeing technology results in a slow sustained release of antibiotic with persistent bacteriocidal properties over extended periods of time.

Abstract
Twenty-three ICR mice were force fed orally with American ginseng extract, Panax quinquefolius, (Cold FX) for 4 days. Another 20 mice were fed with water as placebo in a similar fashion. Formalin tests which yield typically two phases of pain behavior were done in both groups. Although there was no difference in the first phase between groups, mice treated with Cold FX spent significantly less time in licking and biting of the injured paws in the second phase. The data indicate that American ginseng may have analgesic effect in this chronic pain model.

Abstract
In mammals, the nocturnal rise in pineal melatonin is regulated by signals from the endogenous clock, the hypothalamic suprachiasmatic nuclei. There have been few reports on whether anaesthetics which modulate multisynaptic neuronal functions affect melatonin secretion. We studied the effects of three commonly used anaesthetics, halothane, pentobarbital and ketamine, on serum melatonin levels in male New Zealand white rabbits. Seven blood samples were collected, 30-60 min apart, before, during and after anaesthesia. Experiments were performed in the late light and early dark period, so that changes in melatonin secretion would be reflected in the onset and/or level of nocturnal serum melatonin. Serum melatonin levels were determined by radioimmunoassay. Our results indicated that halothane attenuated the release of melatonin and pentobarbital had no apparent effect, whereas ketamine potentiated the release of melatonin. These findings suggest that melatonin levels may be affected in patients anaesthetized with halothane or ketamine, resulting in disturbed biological rhythms, especially the sleep-wake cycle following recovery.

Abstract
Leukotoxin, a cytochrome P450-derived epoxide of linoleic acid, has been implicated as a causative factor in acute respiratory distress syndrome. Conversion of this fatty acid epoxide to leukotoxin diol by epoxide hydrolase has been hypothesized as the critical activation step in leukotoxin-induced cellular toxicity. In both human and insect cells, we observed that leukotoxin diol causes acute cellular toxicity and that cyclosporin A, an inhibitor of the mitochondrial permeability transition, ameliorates leukotoxin diol-associated toxicity. To evaluate mitochondria as a target of leukotoxin diol, multiple aspects of mitochondrial integrity were evaluated in both cell- and organelle-based assays. Leukotoxin diol specifically activated the mitochondrial permeability transition, resulting in release of cytochrome c and subsequent cell death. Pretreatment with cyclosporin A inhibited these effects and, furthermore, limited in vivo toxicity. While the mechanisms underlying leukotoxin-mediated toxicity remain to be fully elucidated, the observation that leukotoxin diol disrupts mitochondrial function specifically through activation of the mitochondrial permeability transition suggests at least one mechanism through which leukotoxin diol may exert its activity in physiological contexts.

Abstract
Methodology for identifying tumor-associated antigens recognized by T cells has been successfully used to clone antigens from melanoma cells. Similar efforts for nonmelanoma tumors have had limited success with few antigens identified. To identify potentially relevant tumor-associated antigens expressed in renal cell carcinoma cell lines, a tumor-specific CTL clone was established from tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes from a regressing pulmonary lesion. This CTL recognized nonmutated fibroblast growth factor-5 (FGF-5). Quantitative real-time reverse transcription PCR revealed that FGF-5 was overexpressed in the majority of renal cell carcinomas, as well as in some prostate carcinoma and breast carcinoma lines. FGF-5 expression by quantitative real-time reverse transcription PCR in normal tissues was below the recognition threshold for this CTL. As a normal protein with significant overexpression by multiple adenocarcinomas and little normal tissue expression, FGF-5 represents an immunotherapy target with potential utility against a broad array of nonmelanoma cancers.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Little is known about the prevalence of antibiotic-resistant Helicobacter pylori infection in children. Culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing are generally time-consuming and not a routine in many hospitals. OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of clarithromycin-resistant H. pylori strains in children, to identify those isolates via rapid methodology and to examine the severity of gastritis caused by the antibiotic-resistant H. pylori isolates. METHODS Enrolled were 245 children investigated for H. pylori infection by endoscopic examination. The gastric antral specimens were subjected to DNA extraction and polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) with primers specific to the H. pylori 23S rRNA gene. Conventional bacterial cultures were performed simultaneously as the diagnostic standard. Minimal inhibitory concentrations of clarithromycin and metronidazole were determined by E test. This was used as a standard to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the above PCR-RFLP assay. The specimens were processed for histologic examination and evaluated by the updated Sydney system. RESULTS H. pylori was isolated in 67 of the 245 children; 12 (18%) of them were clarithromycin-resistant and 6 (9%) were metronidazole-resistant. No difference in histologic examinations was noted between the antibiotic-resistant and -susceptible strains. We performed PCR-RFLP with all 12 clarithromycin-resistant isolates: 10 had a 23S ribosomal RNA A2144G point mutation; 1 had a mixture of an A2143G point mutant and susceptible strains; and 1 had neither of the 2 mutations. CONCLUSIONS The prevalence of clarithromycin-resistant H. pylori isolates in Taiwanese children is 18%. PCR-RFLP had a high sensitivity (92%) and specificity (100%) for the clarithromycin resistance gene mutation determination. The dominant mutation is A2144G. PCR-RFLP provides a rapid and accurate approach to detect clarithromycin-resistant strains within 24 h.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma have a reported 5-year survival of 0% to 20%. The ability to predict which patients would benefit from nephrectomy and interleukin-2 (IL-2) therapy before any treatment is initiated would be useful for maximizing the advantage of therapy and improving the quality of life. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis of the x-rays and charts of patients treated at the National Institutes of Health Surgery Branch between 1985 and 1996, who presented with metastatic renal cancer beyond the locoregional area and the primary tumor in place, was performed. Preoperative computerized tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, or radiological reports if no scans were available, were used to obtain an estimate of the volume of retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy. Operative notes were used to evaluate whether all lymphadenopathy was resected or disease left in situ, or if any extrarenal resection, including venacavotomy, was performed. Mean survival rate was calculated from the time of nephrectomy to the time of death or last clinical followup. If patients received IL-2 therapy, the response to treatment was recorded. Mean survival and response rate for IL-2 were compared among patients in 3 separate analyses. Patients without preoperatively detected lymphadenopathy were compared with those with at least 1 cm.3 retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy. Also, the patients who had detectable lymphadenopathy were divided into subgroups consisting of all resected, incompletely resected, unresectable and unknown if all disease was resected. Each subgroup was compared with patients without detectable preoperative lymphadenopathy. Patients with less than were compared to those with greater than 50 cm.3 retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy. Patients undergoing extrarenal resection at nephrectomy (complex surgery) due to direct invasion of the tumor into another intra-abdominal organ were compared with those undergoing radical nephrectomy alone, regardless of lymph node status. Statistical analysis was done with the Mantel-Cox test for comparison of survival on Kaplan-Meier curves and with Fisher's exact test for response rates for IL-2. RESULTS A total of 154 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma underwent cytoreductive nephrectomy as preparation for IL-2 based regimens. There were 82 patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma and no preoperative retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy who survived longer (median 14.7 months) than the 72 with lymphadenopathy (median 8.5, p = 0.0004). Patients with incompletely resected, unresectable or an unknown volume resected had decreased survival compared to those with no retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy. A multivariate analysis of survival was performed evaluating the known prognostic indicators, performance status and tumor burden, as represented by the number of organs involved with metastases, and the new prognostic factor, lymphadenopathy. Lymphadenopathy was more closely associated with survival than performance status, and appeared to be a new prognostic variable. Patients with and without retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy at initial presentation had similar rates for treatment with IL-2 (54% for both groups). Of the 82 patients with no lymphadenopathy 11 (13%) had long-term survival greater than 5 years. Of the 6 complete responses to IL-2, 5 occurred in this group. Only 1 other patient with incompletely resected retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy survived longer than 5 years. No significant difference in survival was seen between patients who did or did not undergo complex surgery. CONCLUSIONS Patients who presented with metastatic renal cancer and retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy had a shorter survival than those with no detectable retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy. It is warranted to continue to perform complex extrarenal resection during nephrectomy since no significant difference in the response rate for IL-2 or mean survival compared with those of patients undergoing nephrectomy alone is currently detectable.

Abstract
This report describes a phase I study of the adoptive transfer of cloned melanoma antigen-specific T lymphocytes for therapy of patients with advanced melanoma. Clones were derived from peripheral blood lymphocytes or tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes of patients who had received prior immunization with the melanoma-associated antigen, gpl00. In response to its cognate antigen, each clone used for treatment secreted large amounts of interferon-gamma and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, lesser amounts of interleukin (IL)-2 and tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and little or no IL-4 and IL-10. Clones also demonstrated recognition of human leukocyte antigen-matched melanomas using cytokine secretion and lysis assays. Twelve patients received 2 cycles of cells alone; 11 patients received additional cycles of cells and were randomized between two schedules of IL-2 (125,000 IU/kg subcutaneously daily for 12 days versus 720,000 IU/kg intravenously every 8 h for 4 days). A total of 51 cycles of cells were administered, with an average of 1 x 10(10) cells per cycle. Peripheral blood samples were analyzed for persistence of transferred cells by T-cell receptor-specific polymerase chain reaction. Transferred cells reached a maximum level at 1 h after transfer but rapidly declined to undetectable levels by 2 weeks. One minor response and one mixed response were observed (both in the high-dose IL-2 arm). This report demonstrates the safety and feasibility of cloned T-cell transfer as a therapy for patients with cancer. The lack of clinical effectiveness of this protocol suggests that transfer of different or additional cell types or that modulation of the recipient host environment is required for successful therapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Solid tumors are angiogenesis dependent, and elevated levels of proangiogenic cytokines have been reported in a variety of histologies. Endostatin is an antiangiogenic fragment of the basement membrane protein, collagen XVIII. Because antiangiogenic protein fragments may be generated by tumor-derived proteases, the authors sought to determine whether circulating levels of endostatin were elevated in patients with localized soft tissue sarcoma. METHODS The authors analyzed preoperative serum levels of endostatin, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in 25 patients (14 males and 11 females; mean age, 44 years) with soft tissue sarcoma. For each serum sample, two aliquots were assayed in duplicate using a competitive enzyme immunoassay. Serum levels were compared with levels from 34 age-matched and gender-matched volunteer blood donors. RESULTS Endostatin levels were significantly higher in sera from sarcoma patients than in sera from healthy controls (43.0 ng/mL vs. 25.8 ng/mL, respectively; P = 0.0002; Mann-Whitney U test). Significant elevations also were noted in VEGF and bFGF levels (P = 0.0002 and P = 0.0001, respectively). Furthermore, endostatin levels > 2 standard deviations above the control mean (55 ng/mL) were associated with an increased risk of tumor recurrence after resection (P = 0.047; log-rank test). CONCLUSIONS Serum endostatin, VEGF, and bFGF levels are elevated in patients with soft tissue sarcoma. Elevated endostatin levels appear to be associated with tumor aggressiveness. The role of these cytokines in sarcoma angiogenesis and as potential targets for therapy warrants further study.
