Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) To achieve a high conformal dose with Linear Energy Transfer (LET) optimized FLASH proton therapy, we introduced a new planning and delivery technique concept, the voxel-wised optimization of LET distribution and dose rate based on scanning arc therapy (SPLASHLET) MATERIALS/METHODS: The algorithm optimizes (1) the clinical dose-volume constraint based on dose distribution and (2) the clinical LET-volume constraint based on LET distribution using Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) with Limited-memory BFGS solver by minimizing the monitor unit (MU) constraint on spot weight and (3) the effective dose-average dose rate by minimizing the accelerator's beam current sequentially. Such optimization framework enables the high dose conformal dynamic arc therapy with the capability of LET painting with voxel-based FLASH dose rate in an open-source proton planning platform (MatRad, Department of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology, German Cancer Research Center-DKFZ). It aiming to minimize the overall cost function value combined with plan quality and voxel-based LET and dose rate constraints. Three representative cases (brain, liver and prostate cancer) were used for testing purposes. Dose-volume histogram (DVH), LET volume histogram (LVH) dose rate volume histogram (DRVH) and dose rate map were assessed compared to the original SPArc plan (SPArcoriginal). RESULTS SPLASHLET plan could offer comparable plan quality compared to SPArcoriginal plan. The DRVH results indicated that SPArcoriginal could not achieve FLASH using the clinic beam current configuration, while SPLASHLET could significantly not only improve V40Gy/s in target and region of interest (ROI) but also improve the mean LET in the target and reduce the high LET in organ at risk (OAR) in comparison with SPArcoriginal (Table 1). CONCLUSION SPLASHLET offers the first LET painting with voxel-based ultra-dose-rate and high-dose conformity treatment using proton beam therapy. Such technique has the potential to take full vantage of LET painting, FLASH and SPArc.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) To report an ILROG multi-institutional analysis of bridging radiotherapy (BRT) prior to CD19-targeting chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T) therapy for relapsed/refractory aggressive B-cell lymphomas (BCL). MATERIALS/METHODS Weretrospectively reviewed 115 patients (pts) with diffuse large BCL (n = 101, 88%), primary mediastinal BCL (n = 11, 10%), mantle cell lymphoma (n = 2, 2%), and T-cell/histiocyte rich large BCL (n = 1, 1%) who received BRT prior to commercial CAR T from 2018-2020 across 6 institutions. BRT toxicities were graded per CTCAE v5.0, cytokine release syndrome (CRS) per ASTCT, and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) per either ASTCT or CTCAE v5.0. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), measured from CAR T infusion, were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method. PFS was modeled using Cox regression with stepwise variable selection. RESULTS BRTwas given prior to axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi-cel; n = 82, 71%), tisagenlecleucel (tisa-cel; n = 31, 27%), or brexucabtagene autoleucel (n = 2, 2%). Median age was 62 years with median of two prior lines of therapy. Most pts had advanced stage III/IV disease at leukapheresis (n = 87, 76%), elevated pre-leukapheresis LDH (n = 73, 63%), and bulky disease (n = 55, 50%) (1 lesion ≥7.5 cm). 78 pts (68%) had extranodal disease, 12 (10%) had central nervous system (CNS) involvement, and 36 (31%) had bone involvement. Systemic bridging therapy was given to 42 pts (37%). Median intervals from leukapheresis to BRT start and from BRT completion to CAR T infusion were 5 days (IQR -6, 11) and 12 days (IQR 9, 23), respectively. BRT was delivered to 163 total sites; most commonly the abdomen/pelvis (n = 58, 50%), head/neck (n = 34, 30%), thorax (n = 20, 17%), extremity/soft tissue (n = 20, 17%), and CNS (n = 13, 11%). Median biologically effective dose was 31.3 Gy (IQR 24, 39). Most common regimen was 30 Gy in 10 fractions (n = 27, 17%). 40 pts (35%) received comprehensive BRT (to all active lesions). There were no grade ≥3 BRT toxicities. Grade ≥3 CRS occurred in 9 pts (8%), including 8/82 (10%) after axi-cel and 1/31 (3%) after tisa-cel. Grade ≥3 ICANS occurred in 23 pts (20%), including 22/82 (27%) after axi-cel and 1/31 (3%) after tisa-cel. Median follow up was 26.9 months. 1- and 2-year OS rates were 60% and 49%. 1- and 2-year PFS rates were 41% and 35%. Comprehensive BRT associated with superior PFS (HR 0.34, 95% CI 0.19-0.62, p<0.001) in a multivariable model with age ≥60, ECOG ≥2, advanced stage, CNS disease, pre-leukapheresis LDH, and axi-cel. CONCLUSION In this multi-institutional study, pts receiving BRT prior to CAR T therapy for BCL frequently had bulky disease yet experienced favorable PFS and OS. There were no serious toxicities attributable to BRT, and the rates of CRS and ICANS are comparable to those after CAR T alone. Comprehensive BRT associated with superior PFS.

Abstract
PURPOSE In an effort to decrease transmission during the first years of the COVID-19 pandemic, public health officials encouraged masking, social distancing, and working from home, and restricted travel. However, many studies of the effectiveness of these measures had significant methodologic limitations. In this analysis, we used data from the TrackCOVID study, a longitudinal cohort study of a population-based sample of 3846 adults in the San Francisco Bay Area, to evaluate the association between self-reported protective behaviors and incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. METHODS Participants without SARS-CoV2 infection were enrolled from August to December 2020 and followed monthly with testing and surveys (median of four visits). RESULTS A total of 118 incident infections occurred (3.0% of participants). At baseline, 80.0% reported always wearing a mask; 56.0% avoided contact with nonhousehold members some/most of the time; 9.6% traveled outside the state; and 16.0% worked 20 or more hours per week outside the home. Factors associated with incident infection included being Black or Latinx, having less than a college education, and having more household residents. The only behavioral factor associated with incident infection was working outside the home (adjusted hazard ratio 1.62, 95% confidence interval 1.02-2.59). CONCLUSIONS Focusing on protecting people who cannot work from home could help prevent infections during future waves of COVID-19, or future pandemics from respiratory viruses. This focus must be balanced with the known importance of directing resources toward those at risk of severe infections.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Short-sleep is becoming increasingly common and may negatively affect brain function including cognitive ability. Physical exercise has been proved to improve cognitive function while intensity matters. This study was conducted to examine the effects of 12-week exercise interventions on cognitive performance and prefrontal cortex activation related to task performance in short-sleep young adults. METHODS A total of 50 subjects (23.62 ± 5.28 years and 24 men) with regular short-sleep conditions (<7 h per night) participated in this study and were divided into three groups: control, moderate-intensity continuous training (MICT), and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) group. As task performance (congruent and incongruent Stroop) was monitored, changes in prefrontal oxygenated hemoglobin (oxyHb), an indicator of cortical activation, were measured using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) to explore the hemodynamics mechanism. RESULTS Post 12-week intervention, significant differences in reaction time for congruent [β (95%CI): -0.045 (-0.088, -0.002), p = 0.039] and incongruent Stroop tests [β (95%CI): -0.058 (-0.113, -0.003), p = 0.038] were found only in the MICT intervention group. However, HIIT did not show significant improvements in cognitive function. Left middle frontal gyrus (Frontal Mid L) and right dorsolateral superior frontal gyrus (Frontal Sup R) were both stimulated by MICT and HIIT. Moreover, left dorsolateral superior frontal gyrus (Frontal Sup L) was stimulated by MICT. CONCLUSION The findings indicated that 12-week MICT improved cognition by significantly increasing cortical activity across more brain regions. Thus, we suggested that maintaining moderate-intensity exercise could benefit cognitive function despite short sleep.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Elevated serum squamous cell antigen (SCCAg) has been previously correlated with poor survival, extensive tumor involvement, and recurrence for cervical cancer. Failure of serum SCCAg to normalize after treatment completion has also been studied as a poor prognostic indicator. This is the first study describing the association of SCCAg with stage and outcomes in patients diagnosed with cervical cancer in Botswana, in a population with a majority of women who are living with HIV (WLWH). MATERIALS/METHODS Patients with histologically confirmed cervical cancer were enrolled in a prospective observational study between August 2016 and April 2020 in Botswana. Among all patients undergoing definitive chemoradiation, serum SCCAg was determined at pre-treatment baseline, end of treatment (EOT), and 3-month follow-up (normal reference range 0.3 -1.9 ng/ml). Normalization of SCCAg was defined as return to the reference range after treatment (SCCAg response), and was measured first at EOT; if EOT values were not available, 3-month values were utilized. Patients were staged according to FIGO 2009 criteria, early stage was defined as Stage I-II; while advanced stage was defined as Stage III-IV. Median follow-up was 44 months. A significant cut-off point for baseline and SCCAg response correlated with overall survival (OS) was calculated utilizing a log-rank test RESULTS: Among 234 patients who were diagnosed with histologically confirmed cervical cancer, 73.5% were WLWH (mean CD4 count 466 cells/mL). 92.9% of all cancers were squamous cell carcinoma. 68.8% of patients had elevated SCCAg at time of diagnosis. There was no significant difference in mean baseline SCCAg between WLWH (13.3 ng/mL) and women living without HIV (9.07 ng/mL), p = 0.1052. There was a significant difference seen in mean SCCAg between early (7.9 ng/mL ± SD 13.4) and advanced (18.9 ng/mL, ± SD 29.8) stage disease at diagnosis, p < 0.0001. Baseline SCCAg > 7.9 ng/mL was found to be associated with worse OS (p < 0.001). 5-year OS was significantly different among patients with SCCAg response < = 2.8 (5-year OS 66.2%), vs. SCCAg >2.8 ng/mL (5-year OS 42.4%). There was no significant difference in average SCCAg values between EOT (p = 0.68) and 3-month follow-up (p = 0.24). There was no difference in the proportion of patients who experienced normalized SCCAg by HIV status (p = 0.67). CONCLUSION There was no significant difference in SCCAg among WLWH and women living without HIV. Among patients with elevated SCCAg above normal at baseline, SCCAg was associated with early vs. advanced stage disease. Additionally, there was a significant difference seen in overall survival by two measurement points: baseline SCCAg >7.9 ng/mL and response SCCAg >2.8 ng/mL. SCCAg may be utilized as a biomarker in low-resource settings to refine prognosis. Further studies will be needed to determine utility and validation in predicting recurrence risk and/or lymph node metastases.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Abscopal effect induced by radiotherapy and immune checkpoint blockade is a promising yet far from satisfactory strategy in clinical. The underlying immune mechanism, especially driven by monocytes remains poorly undefined. Monocytes consist of two phenotypically and functionally distinct subsets distinguished by expression of chemokine receptors CCR2 and CX3CR1: classical inflammatory Ly6ChiCCR2hi monocytes and nonclassical patrolling Ly6CloCCR2loCX3CR1hi monocytes. Monocytes differentiate and transit to other myeloid cells such as dendritic cells and macrophages according to various environmental cues. Herein we investigated the roles of monocyte subsets in modulating tumor control consisting of combination RT and myeloid checkpoint agonist αCD40 to specifically ignite myeloid cell activation. MATERIALS/METHODS To establish abscopal model, contralateral tumors were implanted in each mouse, while only one side were treated with RT (8 Gy × 3) + αCD40 agonist (50 μg, intra-tumor). Tumor volume and mice survival were compared in each group (control, RT, αCD40 and RT + αCD40). Ccr2RFP/+ Cx3cr1GFP/+ (R2 × 3), Ccr2RFP/RFPCx3cr1+/+ (R2-KO) and Ccr2+/+Cx3cr1GFP/GFP (X3-KO) mice were used for cell tracking and to dissect chemokine receptor CCR2 and CX3CR1 on monocyte. Tumor infiltrating immune cells were analyzed by flowcytometry and RNA-seq. RESULTS RT combined with αCD40 significantly dampened tumor growth on both ipsilateral and contralateral sides in abscopal model (p< 0.01), accompanied by upregulation of chemokine receptors CCR2 and CX3CR1 on myeloid cells were both increased in tumor and peripheral blood. Chemokine ligands CCL2, CCL3, CCL5, CCL7, CCL12 and CX3CL1 were upregulated in tumor after RT and αCD40 treatment, recruiting CCR2 and CX3CR1 expressing monocytes in situ. To elucidate the roles of CCR2 and CX3CR1 in mediating local and systemic anti-tumor immunity, R2 × 3, R2-KO and X3-KO mice with combined treatment were used. Tumor size on ipsilateral leg were similar among groups. However, tumor growth was significantly delayed on contralateral side in X3-KO mice while accelerated in R2-KO mice compared with that in R2 × 3 mice. Mechanistically, remarkable decrease of antigen presenting dendritic cells (MHCII+Ly6ChiCD11c+) were observed in R2-KO mice. Moreover, phagocytosis was strengthened in macrophages (F4/80+CD11b+) of X3-KO mice. CONCLUSION CX3CR1 deletion ignite anti-tumor immunity elicited by RT and αCD40 through enhanced phagocytosis in macrophages, while CCR2 deletion renders inferior tumor control through reduction of dendritic cells. Preferential targeting nonclassical patrolling monocyte may lead to enhanced local and systemic tumor control.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T immunotherapy fails to treat solid tumors due in part to immunosuppressive microenvironment. Excess lactate produced by tumor glycolysis increases CAR-T immunosuppression. The mechanism of lactate inducing the formation of immunosuppressive microenvironment remains to be further explored. METHODS Immunocyte subpopulations and molecular characteristics were analyzed in the orthotopic xenografts of nude mice using flow cytometry assay and immunohistochemical staining after oxamate, a lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) inhibitor, and control T or CAR-T cells injection alone or in combination. RT-qPCR, western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, luciferase reporter assay, chromatin immunoprecipitation and ELISA were performed to measure the effect of lactate on the regulation of CD39, CD73 and CCR8 in cultured glioma stem cells, CD4 + T cells or macrophages. RESULTS Oxamate promoted immune activation of tumor-infiltrating CAR-T cells through altering the phenotypes of immune molecules and increasing regulatory T (Treg) cells infiltration in a glioblastoma mouse model. Lactate accumulation within cells upregulated CD39, CD73 and CCR8 expressions in both lactate-treated cells and glioma stem cells-co-cultured CD4 + T cells and macrophages, and intracellular lactate directly elevated the activities of these gene promotors through histone H3K18 lactylation. CONCLUSIONS Utilizing lactate generation inhibitor not only reprogramed glucose metabolism of cancer stem cells, but also alleviated immunosuppression of tumor microenvironment and reduced tumor-infiltrating CAR-Treg cells, which may be a potential strategy to enhance CAR-T function in glioblastoma therapy.

Abstract
Two new excited states, Ω_{c}(3185)^{0} and Ω_{c}(3327)^{0}, are observed in the Ξ_{c}^{+}K^{-} invariant-mass spectrum using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. Five previously observed excited Ω_{c}^{0} states are confirmed, namely Ω_{c}(3000)^{0}, Ω_{c}(3050)^{0}, Ω_{c}(3065)^{0}, Ω_{c}(3090)^{0}, and Ω_{c}(3119)^{0}. The masses and widths of these seven states are measured with the highest precision to date.

Evidence of a J/ψK_{S}^{0} Structure in B^{0}→J/ψϕK_{S}^{0} Decays. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:131901. Abstract
An amplitude analysis of B^{0}→J/ψϕK_{S}^{0} decays is performed using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}, collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. Evidence with a significance of 4.0 standard deviations of a structure in the J/ψK_{S}^{0} system, named T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{0}, is seen, with its mass and width measured to be 3991_{-10}^{+12} _{-17}^{+9} MeV/c^{2} and 105_{-25}^{+29} _{-23}^{+17} MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{0} state is likely to be the isospin partner of the T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000)^{+} state, previously observed in the J/ψK^{+} system of the B^{+}→J/ψϕK^{+} decay. When isospin symmetry for the charged and neutral T_{ψs1}^{θ}(4000) states is assumed, the signal significance increases to 5.4 standard deviations.

[Prevalence of comorbid depression and anxiety and effect of psychological interventions among schistosomiasis patients in China: a meta-analysis]. ZHONGGUO XUE XI CHONG BING FANG ZHI ZA ZHI = CHINESE JOURNAL OF SCHISTOSOMIASIS CONTROL 2023; 35:340-348. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the prevalence of comorbid depression and anxiety and to evaluate the effect of psychological interventions among schistosomiasis patients in China, so as to provide insights into improvements of psychological health among schistosomiasis patients. METHODS Publications pertaining to comorbid depression and anxiety and psychological interventions among Chinese schistosomiasis patients were retrieved in electronic databases, including CNKI, Wanfang Data, PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase. The prevalence of comorbidity, psychological interventions, and scores for the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) before and after psychological interventions among Chinese schistosomiasis patients were extracted. The prevalence of comorbid depression and anxiety was investigated among Chinese schistosomiasis patients using a meta-analysis, and the effect of psychological interventions for depression and anxiety was evaluated. RESULTS A total of 231 publications were retrieved, and 14 publications that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the final analysis, including 2 English publications and 12 Chinese publications. Meta-analysis showed that the prevalence rates of comorbid depression and anxiety were 61% [95% confidential interval (CI): (48%, 72%)] and 64% [95% CI: (42%, 81%)] among Chinese schistosomiasis patients. Both the SDS [1.45 points, 95% CI: (1.30, 1.60) points] and SAS scores [2.21 points, 95% CI: (2.05, 2.38) points] reduced among Chinese schistosomiasis patients after psychological interventions than before psychological interventions, and the SDS [-0.47 points, 95% CI: (-6.90, -0.25) points] and SAS scores [-1.30 points, 95% CI: (-1.52, -1.09) points] reduced among Chinese schistosomiasis patients in the case group than in the control group. CONCLUSIONS The comorbid anxiety and depression are common among Chinese schistosomiasis patients, and conventional psychological interventions facilitate the improvements of anxiety and depression among schistosomiasis patients.

Abstract
Supramolecular hydrogels self-assembled from naturally occurring small molecules (e.g., glycyrrhizic acid, GA) are promising materials for controlled bioactive delivery due to their facile fabrication processes, excellent biocompatibility, and versatile stimuli-responsive behaviors. However, most of these natural hydrogels suffer from poor mechanical strength and processability for practical applications. In this work, through adopting a multicomponent gel approach, we developed a novel mechanically robust GA-based hydrogel with an interpenetrating double network (DN) that is composed of a Ca2+-enhanced hydrogen-bond supramolecular GA nanofibril (GN) network and a Ca2+cross-linked natural polysaccharide sodium alginate (ALG) network. Compared to the single GN network (SN) hydrogel, the GN-ALG hybrid hydrogels (GN-ALG-DN) with the hierarchical double-network structure possess excellent mechanical properties and shaping adaptation, encouraging small and large amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS and LAOS) rheological performances, better thermal stability, higher resistance to large compression deformations, and lower swelling behaviors. Furthermore, the GN-ALG-DN hydrogels exhibit a pH-responsive and sustained release behavior of nutrients (i.e., vitamin B12, VB12), showing a faster VB12 release rate with a higher swelling ratio in an alkaline condition (pH 7.5) than in an acidic condition (pH 2.5). This is ascribed to the fact that the higher dissociation degree of carboxylic groups in GA and ALG molecules in an alkaline environment induces the erosion and looseness of the self-assembled GN network and the ionic-cross-linked ALG network, which can lead to the decomposition of the hybrid hydrogels and thereby increases the release of nutrients. Cytotoxicity tests further demonstrate the excellent biocompatibility of the GN-ALG-DN hydrogels. This study highlights the design of robust shaped and structured supramolecular hydrogels from natural herb small molecules, which can serve as solid, edible, and stimuli-responsive active cargo delivery platforms for food, biomedical, and sustainable applications.

Abstract
Introduction In the context of declining mortality rates and increasing infectivity, it has become unavoidable for the majority of individuals to experience a COVID-19 infection at some point. This study aimed to investigate the psychological well-being of the general population during China's transition period from strict control measures to relaxed policies in COVID-19 prevention and control, as well as the impact of COVID-19 related thoughts on emotion and life satisfaction during widespread infections. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted involving a sample size of 1578 participants. Participants completed self-report questionnaires assessing positive and negative emotions, thoughts about COVID-19, and satisfaction with life. Demographic characteristics such as sex, age, and education level were controlled for in the analysis. Results The findings revealed that individuals who had been infected with COVID-19 (specifically the Omicron variant BA.5.2 or BF.7) reported lower levels of positive emotions compared to those who were uninfected or had recovered from the infection. There was a significant relationship between COVID-19-related thoughts, emotions, and life satisfaction. Positive COVID-19 related thoughts were found to mediate the relationship between negative emotions and satisfaction with life. Discussion This study represents a comprehensive examination conducted in China, focusing on assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the general population during the critical transition period from control to relaxation. Throughout this period, the number of infections experienced fluctuations, initially rising but eventually declining over a one-month span. In such a momentous historical period, maintaining a positive perspective on COVID-19 and its management becomes paramount in enhancing the emotional well-being, life satisfaction and overall well-being of individuals.

Measurement of the Ratios of Branching Fractions R(D^{*}) and R(D^{0}). PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:111802. [PMID: 37774262 DOI: 10.1103/physrevlett.131.111802] [Citation(s) in RCA: 0] [Impact Index Per Article: 0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 02/09/2023] [Revised: 04/18/2023] [Accepted: 06/29/2023] [Indexed: 10/01/2023]
Abstract
The ratios of branching fractions R(D^{*})≡B(B[over ¯]→D^{*}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(B[over ¯]→D^{*}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}) and R(D^{0})≡B(B^{-}→D^{0}τ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{τ})/B(B^{-}→D^{0}μ^{-}ν[over ¯]_{μ}) are measured, assuming isospin symmetry, using a sample of proton-proton collision data corresponding to 3.0 fb^{-1} of integrated luminosity recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The tau lepton is identified in the decay mode τ^{-}→μ^{-}ν_{τ}ν[over ¯]_{μ}. The measured values are R(D^{*})=0.281±0.018±0.024 and R(D^{0})=0.441±0.060±0.066, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The correlation between these measurements is ρ=-0.43. The results are consistent with the current average of these quantities and are at a combined 1.9 standard deviations from the predictions based on lepton flavor universality in the standard model.

Measurement of the Prompt D^{0} Nuclear Modification Factor in p-Pb Collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:102301. Abstract
The production of prompt D^{0} mesons in proton-lead collisions in both the forward and backward rapidity regions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of sqrt[s_{NN}]=8.16 TeV is measured by the LHCb experiment. The nuclear modification factor of prompt D^{0} mesons is determined as a function of the transverse momentum p_{T}, and the rapidity in the nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass frame y^{*}. In the forward rapidity region, significantly suppressed production with respect to pp collisions is measured, which provides significant constraints on models of nuclear parton distributions and hadron production down to the very low Bjorken-x region of ∼10^{-5}. In the backward rapidity region, a suppression with a significance of 2.0-3.8 standard deviations compared to parton distribution functions in a nuclear environment expectations is found in the kinematic region of p_{T}>6 GeV/c and -3.25

Measurement of the Lifetime and Λ Separation Energy of _{Λ}^{3}H. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:102302. Abstract
The most precise measurements to date of the _{Λ}^{3}H lifetime τ and Λ separation energy B_{Λ} are obtained using the data sample of Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV collected by ALICE at the LHC. The _{Λ}^{3}H is reconstructed via its charged two-body mesonic decay channel (_{Λ}^{3}H→^{3}He+π^{-} and the charge-conjugate process). The measured values τ=[253±11(stat)±6(syst)] ps and B_{Λ}=[102±63(stat)±67(syst)] keV are compatible with predictions from effective field theories and confirm that the _{Λ}^{3}H structure is consistent with a weakly bound system.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Left ventricular dysfunction in potential donors meeting brain death criteria often results in nonuse of donor hearts for transplantation, yet little is known about its incidence or pathophysiology. Resolving these unknowns was a primary aim of the DHS (Donor Heart Study), a multisite prospective cohort study. METHODS The DHS enrolled potential donors by neurologic determination of death (n=4333) at 8 organ procurement organizations across the United States between February 2015 and May 2020. Data included medications administered, serial diagnostic tests, and transthoracic echocardiograms (TTEs) performed: (1) within 48 hours after brain death was formally diagnosed; and (2) 24±6 hours later if left ventricular (LV) dysfunction was initially present. LV dysfunction was defined as an LV ejection fraction <50% and was considered reversible if LV ejection fraction was >50% on the second TTE. TTEs were also examined for presence of LV regional wall motion abnormalities and their reversibility. We assessed associations between LV dysfunction, donor heart acceptance for transplantation, and recipient 1-year survival. RESULTS An initial TTE was interpreted for 3794 of the 4333 potential donors by neurologic determination of death. A total of 493 (13%) of these TTEs showed LV dysfunction. Among those donors with an initial TTE, LV dysfunction was associated with younger age, underweight, and higher NT-proBNP (N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide) and troponin levels. A second TTE was performed within 24±6 hours for a subset of donors (n=224) with initial LV dysfunction; within this subset, 130 (58%) demonstrated reversibility. Sixty percent of donor hearts with normal LV function were accepted for transplant compared with 56% of hearts with reversible LV dysfunction and 24% of hearts with nonreversible LV dysfunction. Donor LV dysfunction, whether reversible or not, was not associated with recipient 1-year survival. CONCLUSIONS LV dysfunction associated with brain death occurs in many potential heart donors and is sometimes reversible. These findings can inform decisions made during donor evaluation and help guide donor heart acceptance for transplantation.

Abstract
A high brightness and low energy spread (∆E) ion source is essential to the production of a high-quality primary ion beam applied in secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). A compact 13.56 MHz radio-frequency (RF) ion source with an external planar spiral antenna has been developed as a candidate ion source for the production of negative oxygen ion beams for SIMS application. This ion source is designed with a three-and-a-half-turn water-cooled planar antenna for RF power coupling, a multi-cusp magnetic field for effective plasma confinement, and a three-electrode extraction system. The experimental results show that more than 50 µA negative oxygen ion beams have been extracted, which consist of 56% O-, 25% O2-, and 19% O3-. The ion energy distribution of the negative oxygen ion beam exhibits a Gaussian distribution with a minimum ∆E of 6.3 eV. The brightness of the O- beam is estimated to be 82.4 A m-2 Sr-1 V-1. The simulation, design, and experimental study results of this RF ion source will be presented in this paper.

Abstract
Objective: To examine the radiomics model based on high-resolution T2WI and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) in predicting microsatellite stability in patients with stage Ⅱ and Ⅲ rectal cancer. Methods: From February 2016 to October 2020, 175 patients with stage Ⅱ and Ⅲ rectal cancer who met the inclusion criteria were retrospectively collected. There were 119 males and 56 females, aged (63.9±9.4) years (range: 37 to 85 years), including 152 patients with microsatellite stability and 23 patients with microsatellite instability. All patients were randomly divided into the training group (n=123) and the validation group (n=52) with a ratio of 7∶3. The region of interest was labeled on the T2WI and DWI images of each patient using the ITK-SNAP software, and PyRadiomics was used to extract seven kinds of radiomics features. After removing redundant features and normalizing features, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operation were used for feature selection. One clinical model, three radiomics models and one clinical-radiomics model were constructed in the training group based on a support vector machine. The area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were used to evaluate the performance of the models in the verification group. Results: Three clinical features (age, degree of tumor differentiation, and distance from the lower edge of the tumor to the anal edge) and six radiomics features (two DWI-related features and four T2WI-related features) most related to microsatellite status of rectal cancer patients were selected. The AUC of the clinical-radiomics model in the training group was 0.95. In the validation group, the AUC was 0.81, better than the clinical model (0.68, Z=0.71, P=0.04), and equivalent to the T2WI+DWI model (0.82, Z=0.21, P=0.83). Conclusions: Radiomic features based on preoperative T2WI and DWI were related to microsatellite stability in patients with stage Ⅱ and Ⅲ rectal cancer and showed a high classification efficiency. The model based on the features provided a noninvasive and convenient tool for preoperative determination of microsatellite stability in rectal cancer patients.

Measurement of the Time-Integrated CP Asymmetry in D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} Decays. PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:091802. Abstract
The time-integrated CP asymmetry in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} is measured using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.7 fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. The D^{0} mesons are required to originate from promptly produced D^{*+}→D^{0}π^{+} decays, and the charge of the companion pion is used to determine the flavor of the charm meson at production. The time-integrated CP asymmetry is measured to be A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+})=[6.8±5.4±1.6]×10^{-4} where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The direct CP asymmetries in D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} and D^{0}→π^{-}π^{+} decays, a_{K^{-}K^{+}}^{d} and a_{π^{-}π^{+}}^{d}, are derived by combining A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+}) with the time-integrated CP asymmetry difference, ΔA_{CP}=A_{CP}(K^{-}K^{+})-A_{CP}(π^{-}π^{+}), and other inputs, giving a_{K^{-}K^{+}}^{d}=(7.7±5.7)×10^{-4},a_{π^{-}π^{+}}^{d}=(23.2±6.1)×10^{-4},with a correlation coefficient corresponding to ρ=0.88. The compatibility of these results with CP symmetry is 1.4 and 3.8 standard deviations for D^{0}→K^{-}K^{+} and D^{0}→π^{-}π^{+} decays, respectively. This is the first evidence for direct CP violation in a specific D^{0} decay.

Abstract
Laser-direct-drive fusion target designs with solid deuterium-tritium (DT) fuel, a high-Z gradient-density pusher shell (GDPS), and a Au-coated foam layer have been investigated through both 1D and 2D radiation-hydrodynamic simulations. Compared with conventional low-Z ablators and DT-push-on-DT targets, these GDPS targets possess certain advantages of being instability-resistant implosions that can be high adiabat (α≥8) and low hot-spot and pusher-shell convergence (CR_{hs}≈22 and CR_{PS}≈17), and have a low implosion velocity (v_{imp}<3×10^{7}cm/s). Using symmetric drive with laser energies of 1.9 to 2.5MJ, 1D lilac simulations of these GDPS implosions can result in neutron yields corresponding to ≳50-MJ energy, even with reduced laser absorption due to the cross-beam energy transfer (CBET) effect. Two-dimensional draco simulations show that these GDPS targets can still ignite and deliver neutron yields from 4 to ∼10MJ even if CBET is present, while traditional DT-push-on-DT targets normally fail due to the CBET-induced reduction of ablation pressure. If CBET is mitigated, these GDPS targets are expected to produce neutron yields of >20MJ at a driven laser energy of ∼2MJ. The key factors behind the robust ignition and moderate energy gain of such GDPS implosions are as follows: (1) The high initial density of the high-Z pusher shell can be placed at a very high adiabat while the DT fuel is maintained at a relatively low-entropy state; therefore, such implosions can still provide enough compression ρR>1g/cm^{2} for sufficient confinement; (2) the high-Z layer significantly reduces heat-conduction loss from the hot spot since thermal conductivity scales as ∼1/Z; and (3) possible radiation trapping may offer an additional advantage for reducing energy loss from such high-Z targets.

Abstract
SIRPα is a transmembrane protein that binds the protein tyrosine phosphatases SHP-1 and SHP-2 through its cytoplasmic region and is abundantly expressed on monocytes, dendritic cells, and macrophages. Studies recently showed that SIRPα is essential for priming of CD4 + T cells by DCs and for development of Th17 cell-mediated autoimmune diseases. We have now further evaluated the importance of SIRPα and that of its ligand CD47 in primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). In this study, we show that there was a low expression state of SIRPα on the surface of monocytes. Treatment of cells culture from ITP patients with a mAb to SIRPα that blocks the binding of SIRPα to CD47 downregulated the ITP response. The abilities of monocytes from ITP patients to stimulate an allogenic MLR were reduced. The proliferation of, and production of IL-2, by CD4 + T cells from ITP patients were inhibited, the Treg cell numbers and the production of IL-10 pairs were upregulated, and the production of TGF-β not was inhibited, by a mAb to SIRPα. Moreover, a mAb to SIRPα, the expression of HLA-DR and CD86 were markedly inhibited and the expression of CD80 was slightly upregulated, on the surface of CD14 + monocytes from ITP patients as compared with healthy subjects. However, blockade of SIRPα increased the secretion of TLR-dependent cytokines TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β by PBMCs, which may be considered as a reserve in response to danger signals. These results suggest that SIRPα on monocytes is essential for the priming of naive T cells and the development of ITP. Therefore, SIRPα is a potential therapeutic target for ITP and other autoimmune diseases.

Measurement of the Branching Fractions B(B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯]) and B(B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯]). PHYSICAL REVIEW LETTERS 2023; 131:091901. Abstract
Searches for the rare hadronic decays B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] and B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] are performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb^{-1}. Significances of 9.3σ and 4.0σ, including statistical and systematic uncertainties, are obtained for the B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] and B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯] signals, respectively. The branching fractions are measured relative to the topologically similar normalization decays B^{0}→J/ψ(→pp[over ¯])K^{*0}(→K^{+}π^{-}) and B_{s}^{0}→J/ψ(→pp[over ¯])ϕ(→K^{+}K^{-}). The branching fractions are measured to be B(B^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯])=(2.2±0.4±0.1±0.1)×10^{-8} and B(B_{s}^{0}→pp[over ¯]pp[over ¯])=(2.3±1.0±0.2±0.1)×10^{-8}. In these measurements, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third one is due to the external branching fraction of the normalization channel.

Persistent alveolar inflammatory response in critically ill patients with COVID-19 is associated with mortality. Thorax 2023; 78:912-921. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Patients with COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) show limited systemic hyperinflammation, but immunomodulatory treatments are effective. Little is known about the inflammatory response in the lungs and if this could be targeted using high-dose steroids (HDS). We aimed to characterise the alveolar immune response in patients with COVID-19-related ARDS, to determine its association with mortality, and to explore the association between HDS treatment and the alveolar immune response. METHODS In this observational cohort study, a comprehensive panel of 63 biomarkers was measured in repeated bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid and plasma samples of patients with COVID-19 ARDS. Differences in alveolar-plasma concentrations were determined to characterise the alveolar inflammatory response. Joint modelling was performed to assess the longitudinal changes in alveolar biomarker concentrations, and the association between changes in alveolar biomarker concentrations and mortality. Changes in alveolar biomarker concentrations were compared between HDS-treated and matched untreated patients. RESULTS 284 BAL fluid and paired plasma samples of 154 patients with COVID-19 were analysed. 13 biomarkers indicative of innate immune activation showed alveolar rather than systemic inflammation. A longitudinal increase in the alveolar concentration of several innate immune markers, including CC motif ligand (CCL)20 and CXC motif ligand (CXCL)1, was associated with increased mortality. Treatment with HDS was associated with a subsequent decrease in alveolar CCL20 and CXCL1 levels. CONCLUSIONS Patients with COVID-19-related ARDS showed an alveolar inflammatory state related to the innate host response, which was associated with a higher mortality. HDS treatment was associated with decreasing alveolar concentrations of CCL20 and CXCL1.

Abstract
Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, previously named Lactobacillus plantarum, is a facultative, homofermentative lactic acid bacterium widely distributed in nature. Several Lpb. plantarum strains have been demonstrated to possess good probiotic properties, and Lpb. plantarum HOM3204 is a potential probiotic strain isolated from homemade pickled cabbage plants. In this study, whole-genome sequencing was performed to acquire genetic information and predict the function of HOM3204, which has a circular chromosome of 3,232,697 bp and two plasmids of 48,573 and 17,060 bp, respectively. Moreover, various oxidative stress-related genes were identified in the strain, and its antioxidant activity was evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Compared to reference strains, the intracellular cell-free extracts of Lpb. plantarum HOM3204 at a dose of 1010 colony-forming units (CFU)/ml in vitro exhibited stronger antioxidant properties, such as total antioxidant activity, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging rate, superoxide dismutase activity, and glutathione (GSH) content. Daily administration of 109 CFU Lpb. plantarum HOM3204 for 45 days significantly improved the antioxidant function by increasing the glutathione peroxidase activity in the whole blood and GSH concentration in the livers of D-galactose-induced aging mice. These results suggest that Lpb. plantarum HOM3204 can potentially be used as a food ingredient with good antioxidant properties.
