Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the ileal digestible energy (IDE), ME, and MEn of rice, broken rice, and rice bran. The birds were fed a standard starter diet from day 0 to 14 and experimental diets from day 15 to 21 after hatching. A total of 336 birds were grouped by BW and assigned to 7 diets, each diet comprised 8 replicates with 6 birds per replicate. The diets comprised a reference diet (RD) and 6 test diets (TD). The TD contained 2 levels of rice, broken rice or rice bran that partly replaced the energy sources in the RD at 120 or 240 g/kg (rice and broken rice) or 150 or 300 g/kg (rice bran). Addition of rice or broken rice to RD linearly increased (P < 0.01) ileal digestibility of DM, energy, as well as total tract metabolizability of DM, energy, and N-corrected energy in the TD. The inclusion of rice bran in the TD linearly decreased (P < 0.01) energy digestibility and utilization in the test diet. Regressions of rice-associated, broken rice-associated, or rice bran-associated IDE, ME, or MEn intake in kcal against rice, broken rice, or rice bran intake were as follows: IDE = Y = 2 (6) + 3,185 (73) × Rice + 3,199 (72) × Broken Rice + 2,562 (61) × Rice Bran, r2 = 0.98; ME = Y = 8 (6) + 3,103 (72) × Rice + 3,190 (71) × Broken Rice + 2,709 (60) × Rice Bran, r2 = 0.98; MEn = Y = 4 (5) + 3,014 (68) × Rice + 3,092 (101) × Broken Rice + 2,624 (57) × Rice Bran, r2 = 0.98; Based on the regression equations, the IDE, ME, MEn values (kcal/kg of DM) of rice were 3,185, 3,103 and 3,014, respectively, while for broken rice, the values were 3,199, 3,190, and 3,092 and for rice bran, the values were 2,562, 2,709, and 2,624, respectively.

Abstract
Missed abortions are common complications that occur in early pregnancy, and impaired trophoblast functions have been indicated to be associated with their pathogenesis. The long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) Metastasis Associated Lung Adenocarcinoma Transcript 1 (MALAT1), HOX Transcript Antisense RNA (HOTAIR) and Maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) have been demonstrated to serve a crucial regulatory role in the mobility of trophoblast cells and embryo implantation. However, the expression profile and role of each of these three lncRNAs in patients with a missed abortion remain unclear. The expression of MALAT1, HOTAIR, and MEG3 in decidual and villous tissues from 26 patient exhibiting a missed abortion and 26 healthy controls was detected using reverse-transcription quantitative PCR. Serum TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-10 levels were measured using ELISA, and serum estradiol and progesterone levels were measured with electrochemiluminescence immunoassays. Additionally, the correlations between lncRNA expression and the levels of cytokines and hormones were further analyzed. MALAT1, HOTAIR and MEG3 expression was significantly higher in villous tissues of patients exhibiting a missed abortion compared with healthy controls. MALAT1 expression was higher in decidual tissues of patients exhibiting a missed abortion compared with healthy controls. Serum IL-10 levels were significantly lower in patients exhibiting a missed abortion compared with healthy controls. Serum estradiol and progesterone levels were significantly lower in the group of patients exhibiting a missed abortion compared with the control group. Furthermore, MALAT1 expression in villous tissue was inversely related to serum progesterone levels. The results of the current study suggest that MALAT1 may be associated with the pathogenesis of missed abortions.

Abstract
Metallothioneins (MTs) are a family of cysteine-rich metal-binding proteins that are important in the chelating and detoxification of toxic heavy metals. Until now, the short length and the low sequence complexity of MTs have hindered the inference of robust phylogenies, hampering the study of their evolution. To address this longstanding question, we applied an iterative BLAST search pipeline that allowed us to build a unique dataset of more than 300 MT sequences in insects. By combining phylogenetics and synteny analysis, we reconstructed the evolutionary history of MTs in insects. We show that the MT content in insects has been shaped by lineage-specific tandem duplications from a single ancestral MT. Strikingly, we also uncovered a sixth MT, MtnF, in the model organism Drosophila melanogaster. MtnF evolves faster than other MTs and is characterized by a non-canonical length and higher cysteine content. Our methodological framework not only paves the way for future studies on heavy metal detoxification but can also allow us to identify other previously unidentified genes and other low complexity genomic features.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to find the associations between vasomotor symptoms (VMS) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) in Chinese middle-aged women in a cross-sectional study. METHODS A total of 675 participants were recruited from an urban Chinese community. MetS was defined by the 2009 criteria of the Joint Interim Statement. VMS including hot flashes and sweats, blood pressure, weight, height, waist circumference (WC), serum glucose, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), estradiol, and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were collected. RESULTS The presence of hot flashes was independently associated with the risk of MetS after adjusting for age, menopausal status, FSHlog, estradiollog, and physical activity (odds ratio: 1.98, 95% confidence interval: 1.21-3.24, p = 0.006). Both hot flashes and sweats were also independently associated with WC (for hot flashes, p = 0.016; and for sweats, p = 0.007) and triglycerides (for hot flashes, p = 0.041; and for sweats, p = 0.014) significantly. However, VMS were not significantly associated with blood pressure, glucose, HDL, and LDL. CONCLUSION Women with hot flashes had a higher risk of MetS. Both hot flashes and sweats were related to a higher amount of central fat indicated by WC and higher triglycerides, but were not related to blood pressure, glucose, and HDL in Chinese women.

Abstract
Vitamin D deficiency is co-prevalent with various liver diseases including cirrhosis, while the underlying mechanism remains elusive. Vitamin D receptor (VDR) is abundantly expressed in the distal region of small intestine, where the Paneth cells are enriched, suggesting that vitamin D signaling may modulates the intestinal Paneth cells and their production of defensins to restrain microbiome growth in the small intestine. In this study we found that in carbon tetrachloride-induced liver injury, hepatic 25-hydroxylation of vitamin D was impaired, leading to down regulated expression of Paneth cell fensins in the small intestine, gut dysbiosis, and endotoxinemia. While intraperitoneal injection of endotoxin (lipopolysaccharides) alone did not elicit liver fibrosis, it exacerbated the carbon tetrachloride initiated liver fibrogenesis. Oral gavage of synthetic Paneth cell alpha-defensin 5 (DEFA5) restored the homeostasis of gut microbiota, reduced endotoxemia, relieved liver inflammation, and ameliorated liver fibrosis. Likewise, Cholestyramine, cationic resin that can sequestrate endotoxin in the intestine, attenuated the liver fibrosis as well. Fecal transplant of the microbes derived from the DEFA5-treated donors improved liver fibrosis in the recipient mice. The intestinal Vdrconditional knockout mice exhibited reduction of Paneth cell defensins and lysozyme production, and worsened liver injury and fibrogenesis. Thus, liver injury impairs synthesis of 25(OH)VD3, which consequently impedes the Paneth cells functions in the small intestine, leading to gut dysbiosis for liver fibrogenesis.

Abstract
Climate change is one of the most significant causes of species range shift and extinction. Based on a citizen science dataset of birds in China, the Bird Report, we developed a high-resolution map of bird species richness in China, and simulated the range shifts and area changes of the 1,042 birds through the year 2070 using three different General Circulation Models and two different Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs, including RCP 2.6 and RCP 8.5). It was found that 241-244 (under different scenarios) bird species would lose a portion of their distribution ranges; and that most species in China would move to either higher elevations or northward. The other 798-801 species would experience range expansion. Compared to resident species (n = 516), migratory birds (n = 526) may undergo more limited range expansion but a longer range shift distance on average. The species diversity of birds will considerably increase in areas higher than 1,500 m in elevation under both RCPs. Conservation priorities with higher species richness were also identified using the Zonation model. The existing national nature reserves are not sufficient for protecting important bird habitats, especially after range shifts. Significant gaps in protected areas were observed in the northern Xinjiang, southern Tibet, Greater Khingan, Sanjiang Plain, Songnen Plain, northern Bohai Rim, and southeastern coastline areas. Many of these areas are characterized by high human populations and intensive development, and establishing sizable protected areas has become difficult. Inclusive conservation mechanisms that include restoring habitats in urban parks and sharing habitats in farmland areas, may be a feasible solution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND 90-day mortality and rehospitalizations are important hospital quality metrics. Biomarkers that predict these outcomes among malnourished hospitalized patients could identify those at risk and help direct care plans. OBJECTIVES To identify biomarkers that predict 90-day (primary) and 30-day (secondary) mortality or nonelective rehospitalization. DESIGN AND PARTICIPANTS An analysis of the ability of biomarkers to predict 90- and 30-day mortality and rehospitalization among malnourished hospitalized patients. SETTING 52 blood biomarkers were measured in 193 participants in NOURISH, a randomized trial that determined the effects of a nutritional supplement on 90-day readmission and death in patients >65 years. Composite outcomes were defined as readmission or death over 90-days or 30-days. Univariate Cox Proportional Hazards models were used to select best predictors of outcomes. Markers with the strongest association were included in multivariate stepwise regression. Final model of hospital readmission or death was derived using stepwise selection. MEASUREMENTS Nutritional, inflammatory, hormonal and muscle biomarkers. RESULTS Mean age was 76 years, 51% were men. In univariate models, 10 biomarkers were significantly associated with 90-day outcomes and 4 biomarkers with 30-day outcomes. In multivariate stepwise selection, glutamate, hydroxyproline, tau-methylhistidine levels, and sex were associated with death and readmission within 90-days. In stepwise selection, age-adjusted model that included sex and these 3 amino-acids demonstrated moderate discriminating ability over 90-days (C-statistic 0.68 (95%CI 0.61, 0.75); age-adjusted model that included sex, hydroxyproline and Charlson Comorbidity Index was predictive of 30-day outcomes (C-statistic 0.76 (95%CI 0.68, 0.85). CONCLUSIONS Baseline glutamate, hydroxyproline, and tau-methylhistidine levels, along with sex and age, predict risk of 90-day mortality and nonelective readmission in malnourished hospitalized older patients. This biomarker set should be further validated in prospective studies and could be useful in prognostication of malnourished hospitalized patients and guiding in-hospital care.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The protein kinase, membrane‑associated tyrosine/threonine 1 (PKMYT1) has been implicated as an important factor promoting the tumorigenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer. The current study was designed to explore the functional role of PKMYT1 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell behaviors and to investigate the possible molecular mechanisms. PATIENTS AND METHODS The expression levels of PKMYT1 in NSCLC tissues and cell lines were determined by quantitative Real Time-Polymerase Chain Reaction (qRT-PCR). The clinical and prognostic significance of PKMYT1 in 153 cases of NSCLC was determined. We also evaluated the effects of KMYT1 on NSCLC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in vitro. Western blot was performed to assure whether PKMYT1 affected the Notch signal pathway and MET pathway. RESULTS We observed that PKMYT1 expression was significantly up-regulated in both NSCLC tissues and cell lines. Higher expression of PKMYT1 was associated with clinical stage and lymph nodes metastasis. Clinical survival assays demonstrated that patients with high PKMYT1 expression had a shorter overall survival time than those with low PKMYT1 expression. Moreover, the multivariate analysis confirmed that increased expression of PKMYT1 was an independent predictor of overall survival. Functionally, knockdown of PKMYT1 in the NSCLC cell lines A549 and H1299 suppressed NSCLC cells proliferation, invasion and migration, and promoted apoptosis. In addition, the down-regulation of PKMYT1 resulted in the inhibition of EMT in NSCLC cells. Further mechanistic studies revealed that when PKMYT1 was silenced, the expression levels of Notch1, p21, and Hes1 were respectively downregulated, suggesting that PKMYT1 could promote the activity of the Notch signal pathway. CONCLUSIONS PKMYT1 plays a significant role in NSCLC aggressiveness and clinical outcome, and may serve as a promising therapeutic target for this disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The ongoing outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has caused great global concerns. In contrast to SARS, some SARS-CoV-2-infected people can be asymptomatic or have only mild nonspecific symptoms. Furthermore, there is evidence that SARS-CoV-2 may be infectious during an asymptomatic incubation period. With the discovery that SARS-CoV-2 can be detected in plasma or serum, blood safety is worthy of consideration. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS We developed a nucleic acid test (NAT) screening system for SARS-CoV-2 targeting nucleocapsid protein (N) and open reading frame 1ab (ORF 1ab) gene that could screen 5076 samples every 24 hours. The 2019 novel coronavirus RNA standard was used to evaluate linearity of standard curves. Diagnostic sensitivity and reproducibility were evaluated using artificial SARS-CoV-2. Specificity was evaluated with 61 other respiratory pathogens. Diagnostic performance was evaluated by testing two sputum and nine oropharyngeal swab specimens. The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay was used to screen SARS-CoV-2 RNA in blood donor specimens collected during the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 in Chengdu. RESULTS Limits of detection of the SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR assay for N and ORF 1ab gene were 12.5 and 27.58 copies/mL, respectively. Intra-assay and interassay for the SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR assay based on cycle threshold were acceptably low. No cross-reactivity was observed with other respiratory virus and bacterial isolates. The overall agreement value between the SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR assay and clinical diagnostic results was 100%. A total of 16 287 blood specimens collected from blood donors during SARS-CoV-2 surveillance were tested negative. CONCLUSIONS A high-throughput NAT screening system was developed for SARS-CoV-2 screening of blood donations during the outbreak of SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
Background Cervical cancer is reportedly caused by the synergistic effects of persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Cervical microbiota represent a unique and dynamically changing microecological system that is directly exposed to the vagina. The relationship between HPV and the composition of the cervical microbiome has long been a primary focus of research. Methods To determine the specific differential florae throughout the process of cervical cancer development, in the present study, 16S rRNA sequencing was combined with KEGG pathway enrichment analysis to analyse five groups of cervical scraping samples with increasing durations of HPV infection and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia pathological classification. Results The findings revealed that decreasing levels of probiotics, including Shuttleworthia, Prevotella, Lactobacillus, and Sneathia, and increasing levels of pathogenic bacteria, including Dispar, Streptococcus, and Faecalibacterium prausnitzii, could be the direct result of early HPV infection. Other pathogenic bacteria, such as Bifidobacteriaceae, might represent key factors in cancer progression. Additionally, KEGG pathway enrichment analysis indicated that HPV infection directly inhibits multiple pathways, including those of sporulation, porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism, arginine and proline metabolism, isoquinoline alkaloid biosynthesis, and ansamycin biosynthesis, which may lead to the development of early symptoms of cervical cancer. Biomarkers were predicted based on operational taxonomic unit (OTU) abundance data, and OTU851726 and OTU715913 were undoubtedly the best potential indicators of cervical cancer. Conclusions The findings of the present study could assist with the development of a guideline for screening new clinical drugs for cervical cancer.

Abstract
Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense race 4 (Foc4) causes Fusarium wilt that affects banana plants, and hence, the molecular mechanisms of its virulence need to be investigated. We purified an exo-polygalacturonase (exo-PG), Pgc4, from Foc4. Pgc4 has an apparent molecular weight of 50.87 kDa based on sodium dodecyl sulphate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. We further performed its sequence analysis and biochemical characterization. The two pgc4 genes encoding Pgc4 from Foc4 and Foc1 were 1434 bp in length and encoded 477 amino acids with differences, due to some nucleotide differences between the two. The Km and Vmax values of Pgc4 purified from Foc4 were determined to be 0.45 mg/mL and 105.26 Units·mg·protein−1 ·min−1, respectively. The recombinant proteins, r-Foc1-Pgc4 and r-Foc4-Pgc4, were expressed and purified from Pichia pastoris and showed optimal Pgc4 activity at 55 °C and pH 4.0; both could induce tissue maceration and necrosis in the “Guangfen-1” and “Baxi” varieties of banana but to a different extent. Phenotypic assays and complementation analyses revealed that, compared to the wild-type, the generated Foc4Δpgc4 mutant strain showed a lower aerial hyphal growth, grew slower, and had a reduced virulence. Therefore, our results demonstrate the function of Pgc4 as a pathogenicity factor of Foc4.

Abstract
Reporter systems are routinely used in plant genetic engineering and functional genomics research. Most such plant reporter systems cause accumulation of foreign proteins. Here, we demonstrate a protein-independent reporter system, 3WJ-4 × Bro, based on a fluorescent RNA aptamer. Via transient expression assays in both Escherichia coli and Nicotiana benthamiana, we show that 3WJ-4 × Bro is suitable for transgene identification and as an mRNA reporter for expression pattern analysis. Following stable transformation in Arabidopsis thaliana, 3WJ-4 × Bro co-segregates and co-expresses with target transcripts and is stably inherited through multiple generations. Further, 3WJ-4 × Bro can be used to visualize virus-mediated RNA delivery in plants. This study demonstrates a protein-independent reporter system that can be used for transgene identification and in vivo dynamic analysis of mRNA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to examine follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and estradiol (E2) trajectories in indigenous Chinese women through the ovarian aging process from 10 years before the final menstrual period (FMP) to 20 years after. METHODS A prospective community-based longitudinal cohort study of 362 Chinese middle-aged women with a clearly determined FMP was performed. RESULTS FSH and E2 trajectories were identified according to years from FMP and the Stages of Reproductive Aging Workshop + 10 (STRAW + 10), and further classified by body mass index. E2 decreases relatively steadily from Stage -2 to +1c, while FSH stabilizes quickly from Stage -2 to +1a. Obese women have higher E2 levels and lower FSH levels during menopausal transition, which last for decades after the FMP. There was no obvious decline in FSH levels for at least 20 years after the FMP. CONCLUSIONS The FSH and E2 trajectories in this indigenous Chinese cohort appear similar to those discussed in the Study of Women's Health Across the Nation, with ethnic differences. STRAW + 10 criteria may be used to ascertain the ovarian aging process in Chinese women. Obese women may experience different levels of hormonal fluctuations during the menopause transition, while FSH levels in all women appear to remain high even at late postmenopause.

Suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 inhibits the maturation of dendritic cells involving the nuclear factor kappa B signaling pathway in the glioma microenvironment. Clin Exp Immunol 2020; 202:47-59. Abstract
Recurrence and diffuse infiltration challenge traditional therapeutic strategies for malignant glioma. Immunotherapy appears to be a promising approach to obtain long-term survival. Dendritic cells (DCs), the most specialized and potent antigen-presenting cells (APCs), play an important part in initiating and amplifying both the innate and adaptive immune responses against cancer cells. However, cancer cells can escape from immune surveillance by inhibiting maturation of DCs. Until the present, molecular mechanisms of maturation inhibition of DCs in the tumor microenvironment (TME) have not been fully revealed. Our study showed that pretreatment with tumor-conditioned medium (TCM) collected from supernatant of primary glioma cells significantly suppressed the maturation of DCs. TCM pretreatment significantly changed the morphology of DCs, TCM decreased the expression levels of CD80, CD83, CD86 and interleukin (IL)-12p70, while it increased the expression levels of IL-10, transforming growth factor (TGF)-β and IL-6. RNA-Seq showed that TCM pretreatment significantly increased the gene expression level of suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) in DCs. suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) knock-down significantly antagonized the maturation inhibition of DCs by TCM, which was demonstrated by the restoration of maturation markers. TCM pretreatment also significantly suppressed T cell viability and T helper type 1 (Th1) response, and SOCS1 knock-down significantly antagonized this suppressive effect. Further, TCM pretreatment significantly suppressed p65 nuclear translocation and transcriptional activity in DCs, and SOCS1 knock-down significantly attenuated this suppressive effect. In conclusion, our research demonstrates that TCM up-regulate SOCS1 to suppress the maturation of DCs via the nuclear factor-kappa signaling pathway.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adenomyosis is benign gynecologic condition with complex etiologies. Common symptoms associated with adenomyosis (AM) include menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, metrorrhagia, and dyspareunia. Although Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has often been utilized for managing AM in clinical practice in China, evidence regarding its efficacy is lacking. This systematic review protocol aims to describe a systematic review to assess the effectiveness and safety of CHM combined with Levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system for AM. METHODS The following 7 databases will be searched from the publishment to December 2019: the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), PubMed, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Digital Periodicals (WAN FANG), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP). The primary outcomes will be relief in pain and uterine bleeding. The secondary outcomes include the adverse effects, CA125 variation in peripheral blood, reduction in uterine volume, and endometrial thickness. We will use RevMan V.5.3 to conduct the meta-analysis, if possible. If it is not allowed, a descriptive analysis will be conducted. We will use risk ratio with 95% confidence interval for dichotomous data and the mean difference for continuous data. RESULTS This study will provide the latest analysis of the currently available evidence for the efficacy of the adjuvant therapy of CHM for the treatment of AM. REGISTRATION NUMBER OSF (DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/A2GHY) ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION:: No ethical issues are required. The findings will be published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Abstract
Background Gut microbiota alterations including small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) might play a role in pathogenesis of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Rifaximin could effectively and safely improve IBS symptoms. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of rifaximin on Gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms, quality of life (QOL) and SIBO eradication in Chinese IBS-D patients. Methods This study included 78 IBS-D patients defined by the Rome IV criteria. Patients received 400 mg rifaximin twice daily for 2 weeks and 10-week follow-up. GI symptoms were assessed at week 0, 2, 4, 8 and 12. QOL and lactulose hydrogen breath test (LHBT) results were estimated at week 0 and 4. Results All participants showed significant improvements in GI symptom subdomains after rifaximin treatment (all P < 0.05), which could maintain at least 10 weeks of follow-up. Additionally, QOL scores were increased with concomitant improvement of clinical symptoms (all P < 0.05). The 45 rifaximin-responsive patients (57.7%) achieved significantly greater GI-symptom improvement than non-responders (all P < 0.05). No GI symptoms were associated with SIBO (all P > 0.05). SIBO normalization after rifaximin treatment measured by LHBT was found in 44.4% (20/45) of patients with SIBO before treatment. Conclusion A short course (2 weeks) of rifaximin improved GI symptoms and QOL in Chinese IBS-D patients whether they had SIBO or not. However, the efficacy of rifaximin could not be explained by the successful eradication of SIBO. Further studies on the therapeutic mechanisms of rifaximin in IBS are urgently needed.

Abstract
Cancer cell lines (CCLs) as important model systems play critical roles in cancer research. The misidentification and contamination of CCLs are serious problems, leading to unreliable results and waste of resources. Current methods for CCL authentication are mainly based on the CCL-specific genetic polymorphism, whereas no method is available for CCL authentication using gene expression profiles. Here, we developed a novel method and homonymic web server (CCLA, Cancer Cell Line Authentication, http://bioinfo.life.hust.edu.cn/web/CCLA/) to authenticate 1291 human CCLs of 28 tissues using gene expression profiles. CCLA showed an excellent speed advantage and high accuracy for CCL authentication, a top 1 accuracy of 96.58 or 92.15% (top 3 accuracy of 100 or 95.11%) for microarray or RNA-Seq validation data (719 samples, 461 CCLs), respectively. To the best of our knowledge, CCLA is the first approach to authenticate CCLs using gene expression data. Users can freely and conveniently authenticate CCLs using gene expression profiles or NCBI GEO accession on CCLA website.
