Abstract
The preservation of tuna fish products, which are extremely perishable seafood items, is a substantial challenge due to their instantaneous spoilage caused by microbial development and oxidative degradation. The current review explores the potential of employing chitosan-gelatin-based edible films and coatings, which are enriched with plant extracts, as a sustainable method to prolong the shelf life of tuna fish products. The article provides a comprehensive overview of the physicochemical properties of chitosan and gelatin, emphasizing the molecular interactions that underpin the formation and functionality of these biopolymer-based films and coatings. The synergistic effects of combining chitosan and gelatin are explored, particularly in terms of improving the mechanical strength, barrier properties, and bioactivity of the films. Furthermore, the application of botanical extracts, which include high levels of antioxidants and antibacterial compounds, is being investigated in terms of their capacity to augment the protective characteristics of the films. The study also emphasizes current advancements in utilizing these composite films and coatings for tuna fish products, with a specific focus on their effectiveness in preventing microbiological spoilage, decreasing lipid oxidation, and maintaining sensory qualities throughout storage. Moreover, the current investigation explores the molecular interactions associated with chitosan-gelatin packaging systems enriched with plant extracts, offering valuable insights for improving the design of edible films and coatings and suggesting future research directions to enhance their effectiveness in seafood preservation. Ultimately, the review underscores the potential of chitosan-gelatin-based films and coatings as a promising, eco-friendly alternative to conventional packaging methods, contributing to the sustainability of the seafood industry.

Abstract
Cysteine plays a pivotal role in the sulfur metabolism network of plants, intimately influencing the conversion rate of organic sulfur and the plant's capacity to withstand abiotic stresses. In tea plants, the serine acetyltransferase (SAT) genes emerge as a crucial regulator of cysteine metabolism, albeit with a notable lack of comprehensive research. Utilizing Hidden Markov Models, we identified seven CssSATs genes within the tea plant genome. The results of the bioinformatics analysis indicate that these genes exhibit an average molecular weight of 33.22 kD and cluster into three distinct groups. Regarding gene structure, CssSAT1 stands out with ten exons, significantly more than its family members. In the promoter regions, cis-acting elements associated with environmental responsiveness and hormone induction predominate, accounting for 34.4% and 53.1%, respectively. Transcriptome data revealed intricate expression dynamics of CssSATs under various stress conditions (e.g., PEG, NaCl, Cold, MeJA) and their tissue-specific expression patterns in tea plants. Notably, qRT-PCR analysis indicated that under salt stress, CssSAT1 and CssSAT3 expression levels markedly increased, whereas CssSAT2 displayed a downregulatory trend. Furthermore, we cloned CssSAT1-CssSAT3 genes and constructed corresponding prokaryotic expression vectors. The resultant recombinant proteins, upon induction, significantly enhanced the NaCl tolerance of Escherichia coli BL21, suggesting the potential application of CssSATs in bolstering plant stress resistance. These findings have enriched our comprehension of the multifaceted roles played by CssSATs genes in stress tolerance mechanisms, laying a theoretical groundwork for future scientific endeavors and research pursuits.

Abstract
Enshi Yulu green tea (ESYL) is the most representative traditional steamed green tea in Enshi, Hubei. Different ESYL grades exhibit distinct flavors, tastes, and prices. In this study, a visual sensor based on 4-MPBA Au@AgNPs was developed for the rapid and accurate identification of ESYL grades. The recognition mechanism involved the binding of 4-MPBA Au@AgNPs with polyphenolic compounds in ESYL to form borate esters and the conversion of Ag+ to Ag0, with the generated Ag0 depositing on the surface of 4-MPBA Au@AgNPs. The results showed that the sensor can amplify the color differences of different grades of ESYL. The visual results were also validated by the partial least squares discriminant analysis model, demonstrating an enhancement in recognition accuracy from 68.2 % to 95.5 % compared to the original extraction solution. The colorimetric sensor developed in this study is expected to provide a new approach for traceability research of other foods.

Abstract
In this study, a novel quantum mechanics-based protocol for the evaluation of carcinogen-scavenging activity (QM-CSA) is developed. The QM-CSA protocol represents a universal and quantitative approach to evaluate and compare the activation-free energies for alkylation reactions between individual polyphenolic compounds and chemical carcinogens of the epoxy type at physiological conditions by applying two scales: the absolute scale allowing for the comparison with guanine and the relative scale allowing the comparison with glutathione as a reference compound. The devised quantum mechanical methodology was validated by comparing the activation-free energies calculated with 14 DFT functionals in conjunction with two implicit solvation models (SMD and CPCM) and the experimental activation-free energies for reactions between nine investigated chemical carcinogens and guanine. According to the obtained results, the best agreement with experimental data was achieved by applying DFT functionals M11-L and MN12-L in conjunction with the flexible 6-311++G(d,p) basis set and implicit solvation model SMD, and the obtained uncertainties were proven to be similar to the experimental ones. To demonstrate the applicability of the QM-CSA protocol, functionals M11-L, and MN12-L in conjunction with the SMD implicit solvation model were applied to calculate activation-free energies for the reactions of nine investigated chemical carcinogens of the epoxy type with three catechins, namely EGCG, EGC, and (+)-catechin. The order of CSA in this series of catechins in comparison to guanine and glutathione was determined as (+)-catechin > EGC > EGCG. The obtained results, for the first time, demonstrated the evaluation and comparison of CSA in a series of selected catechins with respect to glutathione and guanine. Moreover, the presented results provide valuable insights into the reaction mechanisms and configurations of the corresponding transition states. The novel QM-CSA protocol is also expected to expand the kinetic data for alkylation reactions between various polyphenolic compounds and chemical carcinogens of the epoxy type, which is currently lacking in the scientific literature.

Abstract
To evaluate the impact of nutritional tea polyphenols (TPs) on body composition, growth, biochemical markers, antioxidant capacity, and hemato-immunological levels, a ten-week feeding experiment was carried out on coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch, 180.51 ± 0.15 g). The control group was fed a basal diet; the T1, T2, T3, and T4 groups were fed 0.005%, 0.01%, 0.02%, and 0.04% TPs, respectively. These results demonstrate that adding TPs significantly (p < 0.05) increased the coho salmon fish's weight gain (WG), relative growth rate (RGR), condition factor (CF), feed efficacy (FE), daily growth rate (DGR), and specific growth rate (SGR). There was no discernible difference in the body compositions of the treated TPs and the control group (p > 0.05). In addition, the T3 group showed a significant (p < 0.05) decrease in GPT, LDL, HDL, TC, and CAT. Fish given a 0.02% diet containing TPs had significantly lower levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) in their liver; yet, the TP-treated groups had higher levels of SOD and CAT than the control (p < 0.05). The data analysis shows a significant rise in lysozyme, respiratory burst activity, bactericidal activity, and blood hematological parameters in the 0.01-0.04% TP groups. According to these findings, TPs could be a useful dietary supplement for raising the antioxidant status, growth parameters, haemato-immunological response, and whole-body composition of coho salmon fish.

Abstract
Exercise has been demonstrated to induce an elevated production of free radicals, leading to the onset of oxidative stress. Numerous studies highlight the positive impacts of aerobic exercise, primarily attributed to the increase in overall antioxidant capacity. The evidence suggests that engaging in aerobic exercise contributes to a reduction in the likelihood of advanced cancer and mortality. Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between the generation of free radicals and the collective antioxidant defense system, encompassing both enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants. Typically, oxidative stress triggers the formation of reactive oxygen or nitrogen species, instigating or advancing various issues in cancers and other diseases. The pro-oxidant-antioxidant balance serves as a direct measure of this imbalance in oxidative stress. Polyphenols contain a variety of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, flavanols, and phenolic acids, conferring antioxidant properties. Previous research highlights the potential of polyphenols as antioxidants, with documented effects on reducing cancer risk by influencing processes such as proliferation, angiogenesis, and metastasis. This is primarily attributed to their recognized antioxidant capabilities. Considering the extensive array of signaling pathways associated with exercise and polyphenols, this overview will specifically focus on oxidative stress, the antioxidant efficacy of polyphenols and exercise, and their intricate interplay in cancer treatment.

Abstract
Research indicates that green tea extract (GTE) supplementation is beneficial for a range of conditions, including several forms of cancer, CVD and liver diseases; nevertheless, the existing evidence addressing its effects on body composition, oxidative stress and obesity-related hormones is inconclusive. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the effects of GTE supplementation on body composition (body mass (BM), body fat percentage (BFP), fat mass (FM), BMI, waist circumference (WC)), obesity-related hormones (leptin, adiponectin and ghrelin) and oxidative stress (malondialdehyde (MDA) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC)) markers. We searched proper databases, including PubMed/Medline, Scopus and Web of Science, up to July 2022 to recognise published randomised controlled trials (RCT) that investigated the effects of GTE supplementation on the markers mentioned above. A random effects model was used to carry out a meta-analysis. The heterogeneity among the studies was assessed using the I2 index. Among the initial 11 286 studies identified from an electronic database search, fifty-nine studies involving 3802 participants were eligible to be included in this meta-analysis. Pooled effect sizes indicated that BM, BFP, BMI and MDA significantly reduced following GTE supplementation. In addition, GTE supplementation increased adiponectin and TAC, with no effects on FM, leptin and ghrelin. Certainty of evidence across outcomes ranged from low to high. Our results suggest that GTE supplementation can attenuate oxidative stress, BM, BMI and BFP, which are thought to negatively affect human health. Moreover, GTE as a nutraceutical dietary supplement can increase TAC and adiponectin.

Abstract
During fresh-cut processing, potatoes lose their inherent protective cellular structure, leading to enzymatic browning that compromises sensory and edible quality. Tea polyphenols (TPs), natural preservatives with potent reducing properties, are hypothesized to impact this browning process. However, their influence and regulatory mechanism on the enzymatic browning of fresh-cut potatoes remain poorly understood. This study used the "Holland Seven" potato as the research material to explore the effects of a treatment with different TP concentrations (0.1 g L-1, 0.2 g L-1, and 0.3 g L-1) on the browning phenomenon and quality of fresh-cut potatoes during storage. The results showed that appropriate concentrations of TP treatment had a good preservation effect on the appearance and edible quality of fresh-cut potatoes. Furthermore, exogenous TP treatment reduced the content of enzymatic browning substrates (caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid, and ferulic acid) by regulating phenylpropanoid metabolism. Meanwhile, TP treatment augmented the activities of antioxidative enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, and glutathione reductase), maintained higher levels of ascorbic acid (Vc), and reduced glutathione (GSH). Consequently, the TP treatment could inhibit enzymatic browning by regulating reactive oxygen species (ROS) metabolism and the Vc-GSH cycle in fresh-cut potatoes.

Abstract
A better understanding of predator-prey interactions is crucial for the development of biological control strategies. The green lacewing, Chrysopa pallens, is a well-known generalist predator and reportedly functions as one of the most important biological control agents of insect pests. However, information regarding C. pallens' predation on tea plant pests, particularly notorious tea mites, remains largely unknown. In this study, we focused on the predator-prey relationship between C. pallens and an important tea mite pest, Acaphylla theae. We designed species-specific primers for the detection of A. theae DNA and established a PCR-based DNA gut content analysis assay. These results demonstrated that the primers were A. theae-specific and suitable for its molecular identification. The laboratory feeding experiment showed that the detectability success (DS50) of A. theae DNA remaining in C. pallens' guts was 2.9 h. We then performed a molecular detection of field predation, and achieved a 23.53% positive detection rate of A. theae DNA in the guts of field-collected C. pallens. This, for the first time, provides direct evidence that C. pallens can prey on A. theae in tea plantations. Finally, we tested the prey preference and estimated the predation ability of C. pallens on different developmental stages of A. theae. The results revealed that C. pallens had no significant preference for different developmental stages of A. theae. The functional responses of C. pallens' predation on different densities of A. theae at different developmental stages followed a Type II Holling model. The initial attack rate (a') ranged from 0.735 to 0.858 and the handling time (Th) was approximately 0.01. This study is the first to demonstrate the trophic interactions between C. pallens and A. theae and provides evidence for the development of biological control strategies against A. theae using C. pallens as a candidate predator.

Abstract
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a major cause of skin photoaging through generating excessive oxidative stress and inflammation. One of the strategies is to use photo-chemoprotectors, such as natural products with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, to protect the skin from photo damage. The present study investigates the photoprotective potentials of topical administration of unhydrolyzed collagen, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and their combination against ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced photoaging in nude mice. It is found that both the solo and combined pretreatments could recover UVB-induced depletion of antioxidative enzymes, including superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), as well as an increase of lipid peroxide malondialdehyde and inflammatory tumor necrosis factor-α. Meanwhile, the UVB-stimulated skin collagen degradation is attenuated significantly with drug treatments, which is evidenced by expression analysis of matrix metalloproteinase-1 and hydroxyproline. Additionally, the mouse skin histology shows that the drug-pretreated groups possess decreased epidermis thickness and normal collagen fiber structure of the dermis layer. These results demonstrate that both EGCG and collagen can protect the skin against UVB-induced skin photoaging. Synergistically, the combination of them shows the maximum prevention to skin damage, showing its potential in the application of anti-photoaging formulation products.

Abstract
Pesticide stress on plants is receiving increased scrutiny due to its effect on plant secondary metabolism and nutritional quality. Tannic acid (TA) is a natural polyphenolic compound showing excellent antioxidant properties and is involved in alleviating stress. The present study thoroughly investigated the effects and mechanism of exogenous TA on relieving imidacloprid (IMI) stress in tea plants. Our research found that TA(10 mg/L) activated the antioxidant defense system, enhanced the antioxidant ability, reduced the accumulation of ROS and membrane peroxidation, and notably promoted tea plant tolerance to imidacloprid stress. Additionally, TA boosted photosynthetic capacity, strengthened the accumulation of nutrients. regulated detoxification metabolism, and accelerated the digestion and metabolism of imidacloprid in tea plants. Furthermore, TA induced significant changes in 90 important metabolites in tea, targeting 17 metabolic pathways through extensively targeted metabolomics. Specifically, TA activated the flavonoid biosynthetic pathway, resulting in a 1.3- to 3.1-fold increase in the levels of 17 compounds and a 1.5- to 63.8-fold increase in the transcript level of related genes, such as ANR, LAR and CHS in this pathway. As a potential tea health activator, TA alleviates the oxidative damage caused by imidacloprid and improves the yield and quality of tea under pesticide stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite the popularity of modern medicine, medicinal plants remain a cornerstone of treatment for numerous diseases, particularly among ethnic groups and tribal communities around the globe. Ethnomedicine offers advantages such as ease of use, convenience, and economic benefits. Medicinal plant knowledge within Bulang ethnic community of southwest China is a valuable complement to Chinese ethnomedicine systems. Accumulated medical knowledge is due to the extensive length of occupation by Bulang People, considered the earliest inhabitants of Xishuangbanna; this has resulted in the development of various traditional treatment methods with local characteristics and unique curative effects. Therefore, there is exceeding value in exploring the medical knowledge of Bulang. METHODS A total of 175 local informants participated in the interviews and distribution of questionnaires in 10 Bulang villages in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. We documented the community of Bulang's use of medicinal herbs, and we used both the informant consensus factor (ICF) and use value (UV) methodologies to analyze the data. Furthermore, we conducted a comparative study to explore the potential of Bulang traditional medicine by comparing it to traditional Dai medicine. RESULTS The study recorded 60 medicinal plant species belonging to 41 families and 59 genera, including 22 species of herb, 22 species of shrub, nine species of trees, and seven species of liana. Araceae, Compositae, Lamiaceae and Leguminosae were found to have the highest number of species. The affordability and cultural heritage of Bulang medicine make it advantageous, Investigated Informants report that increased usage of Western medicine (88%), less availability of herbal medicine (95.43%), and the reduction in medicinal plant resources (80.57%) pose significant threats to Bulang medicine. All Bulang medicinal plants are naturally grown, with only 22 per cent being cultivated. Camellia sinensis (0.94) and Zingiber officinale (0.89) showed the highest UV values, while the function of Phyllanthus emblica L. and Houttuynia cordata Thunb. were also noted. The ICF revealed digestive system related diseases were the most commonly treated, with conditions of the motor system using the highest number of plant species. Finally, a comparison with traditional Dai medicine determined that 22 plants (36.67%) of the 60 surveyed had higher medicinal value in Bulang medicine. CONCLUSION Bulang communities primarily source medicinal plants from the wild. Should environmental damage lead to the extinction of these medicinal plants, it could result in a shift toward modern Western medicine as a preferred medical treatment. Bulang ethnomedicine is a vital supplement to China's traditional medicine, particularly aspects of ethnic medicine relevant to daily life. Future research should emphasize inter-ethnic medical studies to reveal the untapped potential of medicinal plants.

Abstract
The Mediterranean diet has probably been the most studied diet since the early 1950s. American physiologist Ancel Keys coined the term since it was based on the dietary habits of those populations bordering the Mediterranean basin, particularly the island of Crete and southern Italy. The motivation for the early studies lay in understanding why these populations had greater longevity and lower occurrence of chronic-degenerative diseases and forms of cancer when compared with the peoples of Northern Europe and North America. Traditionally, this dietary regimen was based on the seasonality of foods and the consumption of unrefined grains, legumes, fish, vegetables, fruits, little meat and use of olive oil as a condiment. The purpose of this paper is to understand, based on current scientific knowledge, how the different nutrients present in such a diet can play a preventive role in the onset of today's most frequent diseases.

Abstract
Skin cancer is a prevalent type of cancer worldwide and has a high growth rate compared to other diseases. Although modern targeted therapies have improved the management of cutaneous neoplasms, there is an urgent requirement for a safer, more affordable, and effective chemoprevention and treatment strategy for skin cancer. Nutraceuticals, which are natural substances derived from food, have emerged as a potential alternative or adjunctive treatment option. In this review, we explore the current evidence on the use of omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols (curcumin, epigallocatechin gallate, apigenin, resveratrol, and genistein) for the treatment of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), as well as in their prevention. We discuss the mechanisms of action of the aforementioned nutraceuticals and their probable therapeutic benefits in skin cancer. Omega-3 fatty acids, curcumin, epigallocatechin gallate, apigenin, resveratrol, and genistein have several properties, among which are anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor, which can help to prevent and treat skin cancer. However, their effectiveness is limited due to poor bioavailability. Nanoparticles and other delivery systems can improve their absorption and targeting. More research is needed to evaluate their safety and effectiveness as a natural approach to skin cancer prevention and treatment. These compounds should not replace conventional cancer treatments, but may be used as complementary therapy under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

Abstract
Methylation is a common structural modification of catechins in tea, which can improve the bioavailability of catechins. Flavoalkaloids are catechin derivatives with a nitrogen containing five-membered ring at the C-6 or C-8 position. Here we isolated three new methylated flavoalkaloids from Echa 1 green tea (Camellia sinensis cv. Echa 1) and synthesized another four new methylated flavoalkaloids. The structures of the new ester-type methylated catechins (etmc)-pyrrolidinone A-G (1-7) were elucidated by various spectroscopic techniques, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), optical rotation, infrared, UV-vis, experimental and calculated circular dichroism (CD) spectra, and high-resolution mass. Among them, 6 and 7 showed the strongest α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and significantly lowered lipid content of Caenorhabditis elegans with 73.50 and 67.39% inhibition rate, respectively. Meanwhile, 6 and 7 also exhibited strong antioxidant activity in vitro and stress resistance to heat, oxidative stress, and UV irradiation in nematodes.

Abstract
The demand for natural dyes for imparting sustainable dyeing effects to textiles is increasing. Metal mordants generate an unstainable impact in the natural dyeing of textiles. In order to avoid the toxic effect due to the use of metal mordants, the present work uses enzyme for sustainable natural dyeing of wool. The current study is aimed at preparing multifunctional wool fabric using natural dye green tea (Camellia sinensis). Laccase (an enzyme) was used to polymerise the phenolic compounds of Camellia sinensis in situ on wool. The in situ colouration of wool fabric was performed at various varying dyeing conditions (temperature, time, and concentrations) using laccase. Colouration properties (colour values and strength) were examined to estimate the appearance of dyed fabrics. The evaluation of dyed fabrics for functional properties such as antibacterial, antioxidant, and UV protection was done. The efficient functional properties viz, antibacterial activity (> 75%), antioxidant property (> 90%), and excellent UV protection, were obtained. FTIR analysis of separately prepared polymeric dye and the dyed fabric was also done to confirm the laccase-assisted polymerisation. Thus, a novel approach of enzymatic functional natural dyeing of wool was explored.

Abstract
The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary TPs on growth performance, intestinal digestion, microflora and immunity in juvenile hybrid sturgeon. A total of 450 fish (97.20 ± 0.18 g) were randomly divided into a standard diet (TP-0) or four treatments consisting of a standard diet supplemented with four concentrations of TPs (mg/kg): 100 (TP-100), 300 (TP-300), 500 (TP-500), and 1000 (TP-1000) for 56 days. The TP-300 significantly increased weight gain rate (WGR) and specific growth rate (SGR) (p < 0.05), and TP-1000 significantly increased the feed conversion ratio (FCR) (p < 0.05). TP-300 and TP-500 significantly increased intestinal trypsin, amylase, and lipase activities (p < 0.05). Besides, TP-300 significantly enhanced total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione (GSH) and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) content (p < 0.05). Moreover, TP-300 decreased the expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin 8 (IL-8), and interleukin 1β(IL-1β) compared with TP-0 and TP-1000 (p < 0.05). In addition, the intestinal microbiota diversity in the TP-300 group was observably higher, the dominant microbiota was Bacteroidota, Cyanobacteria, Proteobacteria and Firmicutes at the phylum level, Enterobacteriaceae, Nostocaceae and Clostridiaceae at the family level. The relative abundances of potential probiotics including Rhodobacteraceae and potential pathogens especially Clostridiaceae were the highest, and lowest, respectively. In conclusion, TP-300 altered the abundance of microbial taxa, resulting in enhancing the intestinal digestion, antioxidant status and non-specific immunity to improve the growth performance in juvenile hybrid sturgeon.

Abstract
The aim of the present work was to evaluate if the use of grape pomace (GP) in the feeding of dairy ewes can improve the content of phenolic compounds (PCs) in the milk and affect the anti-inflammatory and antioxidative status of the milk. For this purpose, 46 ewes were randomly assigned to two groups of 23 animals each: a control group (Ctrl) that received a standard diet and an experimental group (GP+), whose diet was been formulated with 10% GP on a dry matter (DM) basis. At the end of the 60 days of the trial, from 10 ewes selected randomly from each group, individual milk samples were collected and analyzed for the identification and the quantification of phenolic compounds through an ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography system, and milk anti-inflammatory and antioxidative status were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, determining the activity of GPx and CAT and the levels of IL-1 and TNFα. In addition, gelatinolytic activity of Type IV collagenases (MMP-2/MMP-9) was evaluated by the fluorometric method and zymographic approach. The results obtained showed that the diet with GP affects the phenolic profile of milk, inducing milk enrichment of phenolic compounds without, however, having a significant impact on milk antioxidant and inflammatory status. However, a lower activity of MMP-9 was found in GP+ milk. The use of the molecular docking approach showed the ability of luteolin to approach the catalytic pocket of the enzyme, interfering with the recruitment of the substrate, and therefore, slowing down their hydrolytic activity.

Abstract
Cancer is exerting an immense strain on the population and health systems all over the world. Green tea because of its higher simple catechin content (up to 30% on dry weight basis) is greatly popular as an anti-cancer agent which is found to reduce the risks of cancer as well as a range of other diseases. In addition, several in vitro and in vivo studies have shown that green tea possesses copious health benefits like anti-diabetic, anti-obese, anti-inflammatory, neuro-protective, cardio-protective, etc. This review highlights the anti-carcinogenic effects of green tea catechins integrating the recent information to gain a clear concept. Special emphasis was given to the effectiveness of green tea polyphenols (GTP) in the prevention of cancer. Overall, green tea has been found to be effective to reduce the risks of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, liver cancer, colorectal cancer, skin cancer, prostate cancer, oral cancer, etc. However, sufficient information was not found to support that green tea consumption reduces the risk of lung cancer, esophageal cancer, or stomach cancer. The exciting data integrated into this article will increase interest in future researchers to garner more fruitful information on the relevant topics.

Abstract
Oral health is one of the necessary preludes to the overall quality of life. Several medical procedures and therapies are available to treat oral diseases in general and periodontal diseases in particular, yet caries, periodontitis, oral cancer, and oral infections remain a global concern. Natural molecules, with their anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-microbic properties, are one of the main sources of oral health and dental health care, and should be supplemented to exploit their beneficial effects. A possible way to improve the intake of these molecules is adhering to a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and probiotics, which has many beneficial properties and can improve overall health and wellbeing. The Mediterranean diet, in particular, provides several beneficial natural molecules, mainly because of the precious nutrients contained in its typical ingredients, mainly plant-based (olives, wine, citrus fruits, and many more). Its beneficial effects on several diseases and in increasing the overall wellbeing of the population are currently being studied by physicians. Among its nutrients, polyphenols (including, among other molecules, lignans, tannins, and flavonoids) seem to be of outmost importance: several studies showed their anticariogenic properties, as well as their effects in decreasing the incidence of non-communicable diseases. Therefore, plant-derived molecules - such as polyphenols - and probiotics - such as Lactobacillus reuteri - have shown a significant potential in treating and curing oral diseases, either alone or in combination, owing to their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, respectively.

Abstract
Monascus pigments (MPs) are natural edible pigments with high safety and strong function, which have been widely used in food and health products. In this study, different types of tea extracts (rich in polyphenols) were used to regulate the biosynthesis of MPs. The results showed that 15% ethanol extract of pu-erh tea (T11) could significantly increase MPs production in liquid fermentation of Monaco's purpureus M3. Comparative transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses combined with reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) were used to further explore the regulatory mechanism of T11 on the biosynthesis of MPs. Comparative transcriptomic analysis showed that there were 1503 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the Con group and the T11 group, which were mainly distributed in carbohydrate metabolism, amino acid metabolism, energy metabolism, lipid metabolism, metabolism of terpenoids and polyketides, etc. A total of 115 differential metabolites (DMs) identified by metabolomics between the Con and T11 groups were mainly enriched in glutathione metabolism, starch and sucrose metabolism, alanine, aspartic acid and glutamate metabolism and glycine, serine and threonine metabolism, etc. The results of metabolomics were basically consistent with those of gene transcriptomics, indicating that the regulatory effect of T11 on the biosynthesis of MPs is mainly achieved through affecting the primary metabolic pathway, providing sufficient energy and more biosynthetic precursors for secondary metabolism. In this study, tea extracts with low economic value and easy access were used as promoters of MPs biosynthesis, which may be conducive to the application of MPs in large-scale industrial production. At the same time, a more systematic understanding of the molecular regulatory mechanism of Monascus metabolism was obtained through multi-omics analysis.

Abstract
Polyphenols (PPs) are a large group of phytochemicals containing phenolic rings with two or more hydroxyl groups. They possess powerful antioxidant properties, multiple therapeutic effects, and possible health benefits in vivo and in vitro, as well as reported clinical studies. Considering their free-radical scavenging and anti-inflammatory properties, these substances can be used to treat different kinds of conditions associated with metabolic disorders. Many symptoms of metabolic syndrome (MtS), including obesity, dyslipidemia, atherosclerosis, elevated blood sugar, accelerating aging, liver intoxication, hypertension, as well as cancer and neurodegenerative disorders, are substantially relieved by dietary PPs. The present study explores the bioprotective properties and associated underlying mechanisms of PPs. A detailed understanding of these natural compounds will open up new opportunities for producing unique natural PP-rich dietary and medicinal plans, ultimately affirming their health benefits.

Abstract
This study investigated the effect of the catechins profile on the antioxidant activity of green tea extracts (GTEs) by comparing the antioxidant activity of an EGC-rich GTE (GTE1, catechin content: 58% EGC, 30.1% EGCG, 7.9% EC, and 3.9% ECG) and an EGCG-rich GTE (GTE2, catechin content: 60.6% EGCG, 17.7% EGC, 11.8% ECG, and 9.8% EC) in a DHA-rich oil. The effects of the individual catechins (EGC, EC, EGCG, and ECG) and reconstituted catechins mixtures (CatMix), prepared to contain the same amount of major catechins as in the GTEs, were also measured. All treatments (GTE1, CatMix1, GTE2, CatMix2, EGC250, EC250, EGCG250, and ECG250), each containing epistructured catechins at a concentration of 250 ppm, as well as the control (oil with no added antioxidant), were stored at 30 °C for 21 days with sampling intervals of 7 days. The antioxidant activity was assessed by measuring the peroxide value (PV) and p-anisidine value (p-AV) of oils. Changes in fatty acid content and catechins content were also monitored. Both GTEs enhanced the oxidative stability of the DHA-rich oil, but GTE1 demonstrated a stronger antioxidant activity than GTE2. No significant difference was observed between the PV of treatments with GTE1 and CatMix1 during storage, whereas the PV of oil with GTE2 was significantly higher than that with CatMix2 after 21 days. Among the individual catechins, EGC was the strongest antioxidant. Overall, the antioxidant activities of the extracts and catechins were observed in the decreasing order GTE1 ≈ EGC250 ≈ CatMix1 > GTE2 > EGCG250 ≈ CatMix2 > ECG250 > EC250. A significant change in fatty acid content was observed for the control and EC250 samples, and the catechins were most stable in GTE1-supplemented oil. Our results indicate that the EGC-rich GTE is a more potent antioxidant in DHA-rich oil than the EGCG-rich GTE.

Abstract
Slow release active packaging films can realize the sustained release of active agents and prolong the shelf life of food. For this aim, a novel slow release active polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film was developed by using solution casting method. With porous starch loaded with tea polyphenols (PSTP) as core material and maltodextrin (MD) as wall material, PSTP@MD microcapsules were prepared using freeze drying method and used as slow release carrier of tea polyphenols (TP) in the active films. The interactions between PSTP@MD microcapsules and PVA molecular chains were physical interactions. In addition, the relative crystallinity of the slow release active films was reduced to 23.74 %. The addition of PSTP@MD microcapsules can enhance the ductility of active films and reduce the water content and swelling degree of active films by 46.74 % and 54.38 %, respectively. Moreover, the thermal stability, water vapor and ultraviolet barrier properties of active films were promoted. The transparency and antioxidant activity of active films was high, and the radical scavenging activity of active films was 58 %. The encapsulation of TP with PSTP@MD microcapsules can realize the slow release of TP. The slow release active films had antioxidant activity and sustained release properties, which could be used as an active packaging film to extend the shelf life of food.

Abstract
Green tea’s (Camellia sinensis) anticancer and anti-inflammatory effects are well-known. Catechins are the most effective antioxidants among the physiologically active compounds found in Camellia sinesis. Recent research demonstrates that the number of hydroxyl groups and the presence of specific structural groups have a substantial impact on the antioxidant activity of catechins. Unfermented green tea is the finest source of these chemicals. Catechins have the ability to effectively neutralize reactive oxygen species. The catechin derivatives of green tea include epicatechin (EC), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin gallate (ECG) and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG has the greatest anti-inflammatory and anticancer potential. Notably, catechins in green tea have been explored for their ability to prevent a variety of cancers. Literature evidence, based on epidemiological and laboratory studies, indicates that green tea catechins have certain properties that can serve as the basis for their consideration as lead molecules in the synthesis of novel anticancer drugs and for further exploration of their role as pharmacologically active natural adjuvants to standard chemotherapeutics. The various sections of the article will focus on how catechins affect the survival, proliferation, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis of tumors by modulating cellular pathways.

Abstract
The experiment aimed to investigate the alteration of tea polyphenols (TP) in growth and immunity for hybrid grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus ♀ × E. lanceolatus ♂) fed high-lipid diets. Six concentrations of TP (0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04, 0.08, 0.16%, named TP1 (basic diet control), TP2, TP3, TP4, TP5, TP6) were supplied in isonitrogenous (51%) and isolipidic (16.7%) experimental diets. These diets were fed to the juvenile grouper (8.68 ± 0.22 g) for 8 weeks. The results showed that dietary TP significantly increased the weight gain rate and specific growth rate (P < 0.05), compared with the control group. The protein efficiency ratio in TP4 group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). TP supplement in high-lipid diets increased antioxidant capacity in the serum (CAT, GSH-Px, T-AOC) and liver (SOD, CAT, GSH-Px, T-AOC). Additionally, dietary TP decreased oxidative stress (ROS, MDA) and improved immunity (ACP, AKP, LYS, IgM) in the liver. The histology of hepatic tissue indicated that dietary TP alleviated pathological symptoms caused by high-lipid diets. Compared with the control group, appropriate dietary TP significantly up-regulated expression of sod, cat, gsh-px, nrf2, keap1, hsp70, hsp90, myd88, tnfα and down-regulated expression of tlr22, il8, il1β, il10 in the liver (P < 0.05). In the head kidney, expression of myd88, il1β, tnfα and il6 were significantly up-regulated and expression of tlr22 and il10 were significantly down-regulated by dietary TP (P < 0.05). After the challenge of Vibrio harveyi, survival rate in higher doses of TP group (TP4 ∼ TP6) was evidently higher, compared with the control group. In conclusion, TP supplement in high-lipid diets improved antioxidant capacity and enhanced immunity of grouper. We speculate that TP may play the role of an immunostimulant, enhancing immunity and disease resistance by cytokine-medicated immune responses. Based on the second-order regression, 0.092-0.106% tea polyphenols were recommended in juvenile grouper high-lipid diets.

Abstract
Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) poses a major challenge to public health worldwide. Endothelial cell injury evokes inflammatory and oxidative responses that contribute to thrombus formation. Tea polyphenol (TP) in the form of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) has anti-inflammatory and oxidative effect that may ameliorate DVT. However, the precise mechanism remains incompletely understood. The current study was designed to investigate the anti-DVT mechanism of EGCG in combination with warfarin (an oral anticoagulant). Rabbits were randomly divided into five groups. A DVT model of rats was established through ligation of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and left common iliac vein, and the animals were orally administered with EGCG, warfarin, or vehicle for seven days. In vitro studies included pretreatment of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) with different concentrations of EGCG for 2 h before exposure to hydrogen peroxide. Thrombus weight and length were examined. Histopathological changes were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. Blood samples were collected for detecting coagulation function, including thrombin and prothrombin times, activated partial thromboplastin time, and fibrinogen levels. Protein expression in thrombosed IVCs and HUVECs was evaluated by Western blot, immunohistochemical analysis, and/or immunofluorescence staining. RT-qPCR was used to determine the levels of AGTR-1 and VEGF mRNA in IVCs and HUVECs. The viability of HUVECs was examined by CCK-8 assay. Flow cytometry was performed to detect cell apoptosis and ROS generation was assessed by 2',7'-dichlorofluorescein diacetate reagent. In vitro and invivo studies showed that EGCG combined with warfarin significantly reduced thrombus weight and length, and apoptosis in HUVECs. Our findings indicated that the combination of EGCG and warfarin protects HUVECs from oxidative stress and prevents apoptosis. However, HIF-1α silencing weakened these effects, which indicated that HIF-1α may participate in DVT. Furthermore, HIF-1α silencing significantly up-regulated cell apoptosis and ROS generation, and enhanced VEGF expression and the activation of the PI3K/AKT and ERK1/2 signaling pathways. In conclusion, our results indicate that EGCG combined with warfarin modifies HIF-1α and VEGF to prevent DVT in rabbits through anti-inflammation via the PI3K/AKT and ERK1/2 signaling pathways.

Abstract
The main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 has been recognized as an attractive drug target because of its central role in viral replication. Our previous preliminary molecular docking studies showed that theaflavin 3-gallate (a natural bioactive molecule derived from theaflavin and found in high abundance in black tea) exhibited better docking scores than repurposed drugs (Atazanavir, Darunavir, Lopinavir). In this study, conventional and steered MD-simulations analyses revealed stronger interactions of theaflavin 3-gallate with the active site residues of Mpro than theaflavin and a standard molecule GC373 (a known inhibitor of Mpro and novel broad-spectrum anti-viral agent). Theaflavin 3-gallate inhibited Mpro protein of SARS-CoV-2 with an IC50 value of 18.48 ± 1.29 μM. Treatment of SARS-CoV-2 (Indian/a3i clade/2020 isolate) with 200 μM of theaflavin 3-gallate in vitro using Vero cells and quantifying viral transcripts demonstrated reduction of viral count by 75% (viral particles reduced from Log106.7 to Log106.1). Overall, our findings suggest that theaflavin 3-gallate effectively targets the Mpro thus limiting the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in vitro.

Abstract
Nuclear factor erythroid 2 [NF-E2]-related factor 2 (Nrf2), the redox-sensitive transcription factor, plays a key role in stress-defense and detoxification. Nrf2 is tightly controlled by its negative regulator cum sensor Kelch-[ECH]-associated protein 1 (Keap1). Nrf2 is well known for its dual nature owing to its cancer preventive and cancer promoting abilities. Modulation of this biphasic nature of Nrf2 signaling by phytochemicals may be a potential cancer preventive and anticancer therapeutic strategy. Phytocompounds may either act as Nrf2-activator or Nrf2-inhibitor depending on their differential concentration and varied cellular environment. Tea is not just the most popular global beverage with innumerable health-benefits but has well-established chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic effects. Various types of tea infusions contain a wide range of bioactive compounds, such as polyphenolic catechins and flavonols, which are endowed with potent antioxidant properties. Despite of their rapid biotransformation and poor bioavailability, regular tea consumption is risk-reductive for several cancer forms. Tea catechins show their dual Nrf2-modulatory effect by directly acting on Nrf2-Keap1 or their upstream regulators and downstream effectors in a highly case-specific manner. In this review, we have tried to present a comprehensive evaluation of the Nrf2-mediated chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic applications of tea in various preclinical cancer models, the Nrf2-modulatory mechanisms, and the limitations which need to be addressed in future research.

Abstract
Peroxygenases are promising catalysts for use in the oxidation of chemicals as they catalyze the direct oxidation of a variety of compounds under ambient conditions using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as an oxidant. Although the use of peroxygenases provides a simple method for oxidation of chemicals, the anthraquinone process currently used to produce H2O2 requires significant energy input and generates considerable waste, which negatively affects process sustainability and production costs. Thus, generating H2O2 for peroxygenases on site using an environmentally benign method would be advantageous. Here, we utilized spent coffee grounds (SCGs) and tea leaf residues (TLRs) for the production of H2O2. These waste biomass products reacted with molecular oxygen and effectively generated H2O2 in sodium phosphate buffer. The resulting H2O2 was utilized by the bacterial P450 peroxygenase, CYP152A1. Both SCG-derived and TLR-derived H2O2 promoted the CYP152A1-catalyzed oxidation of 4-methoxy-1-naphthol to Russig's blue as a model reaction. In addition, when CYP152A1 was incubated with styrene, the SCG and TLR solutions enabled the synthesis of styrene oxide and phenylacetaldehyde. This new approach using waste biomass provides a simple, cost-effective, and sustainable oxidation method that should be readily applicable to other peroxygenases for the synthesis of a variety of valuable chemicals.

Abstract
Tea (Camelliasinensis) is the world’s most widely consumed non-alcoholic beverage with essential economic and health benefits since it is an excellent source of polyphenols, catechins, amino acids, flavonoids, carotenoids, vitamins, and polysaccharides. The aim of this review is to summarize the main secondary metabolites in tea plants, and the content and distribution of these compounds in six different types of tea and different organs of tea plant were further investigated. The application of these secondary metabolites on food processing, cosmetics industry, and pharmaceutical industry was reviewed in this study. With the rapid advancements in biotechnology and sequencing technology, omics analyses, including genome, transcriptome, and metabolome, were widely used to detect the main secondary metabolites and their molecular regulatory mechanisms in tea plants. Numerous functional genes and regulatory factors have been discovered, studied, and applied to improve tea plants. Research advances, including secondary metabolites, applications, omics research, and functional gene mining, are comprehensively reviewed here. Further exploration and application trends are briefly described. This review provides a reference for basic and applied research on tea plants.

Abstract
Background Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, it affects both men and women. In Saudi Arabia, breast cancer has been the most prevalent type of cancer in women, for the past few years. Dietary habits and cultural beliefs vary according to region, and further studies are required to demonstrate the relationship between these dietary habits and cultural beliefs and the risk of developing breast cancer. This study is aimed to discover the relationship between preventive dietary factors of the Mediterranean diet and rates of breast cancer among postmenopausal women in the Makkah region of Saudi Arabia. Methods A case-control study was conducted in King Abdulla Medical City Hospital, Makkah, Saudi Arabia and included 432 Saudi female participants: 218 in the control group and 214 breast cancer patients. All participants were postmenopausal, around the same age, and all were ethnically Arab Saudis. Data were obtained using a self-administered validated questionnaire. Results Study results showed that a diet that includes 1-2 servings of legumes weekly, 1-5 servings of fish weekly, 1-5 servings of dairy products daily, 3-5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily, and more than one cup of black tea and coffee per day significantly (p < 0.05) reduces the risk of breast cancer. Conclusion This study demonstrates that consuming a Mediterranean diet, which includes legumes, fish, fruits and vegetables, black tea, coffee, and low intake of dairy products, works as a preventive factor against breast cancer in postmenopausal females from the Makkah region.

Abstract
The rapid transmission of the pneumonia (COVID-19) emerged as an entire worldwide health concern and it was declared as pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a consequence of the increasing reported infections number. COVID-19 disease is caused by the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus, and unfortunatly no drugs are currently approved against this desease. Accordingly, it is of outmost importance to review the possible therapeutic effects of naturally-occuring compounds that showed approved antiviral activities. The molecular docking approach offers a rapid prediction of a possible inhibition of the main enzymes Mpro and RdRp that play crucial role in the SARS-CoV-2 replication and transcription. In the present work, we review the anti-viral activities of polyphenol compounds (phenolic acids, flavonoids and stilbene) derived from the traditional Chinese medicinal Vitis amurensis. Recent molecular docking studies reported the possible binding of these polyphenols on SARS-CoV-2 enzymes Mpro and RdRp active sites and showed interesting inhibitory effects. This antiviral activity was explained by the structure-activity relationships of the studied compounds. Also, pharmacokinetic analysis of the studied molecules is simulated in the present work. Among the studied polyphenol compounds, only five, namely caffeic acid, ferulic acid, quercetin, naringenin and catechin have drug-likeness characteristics. These five polyphenols derived from Vitis amurensis are promising drug candidates for the COVID-19 treatment.

Abstract
A novel active food packaging film was developed by casting a corn starch/tea polyphenol (TP)-loaded porous starch (PS, obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis) film forming solution, with the latter helping to regulate the slow release of TP. Results showed that PS had a favorable TP adsorption capacity, and the casted films had a homogeneous distribution of the formulation components. Likewise, the active films had good mechanical properties, UV barrier properties, thermal stability, and excellent antioxidant properties. The slow release of TP from the films was sustained, which is a desired characteristic for extending the protection afforded by the active film to the food under consideration.

Abstract
Tea polyphenols (TPs) are the major bioactive extract from green tea that have been extensively reported to prevent and treat oxidative stress damage. In previous studies, TPs have been demonstrated to protect cells against oxidative injury induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether the protective and regulatory effects of TPs on oxidative stress damage were dependent on the mammalian STE20-like protein kinase (Mst)/nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2) axis and the Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1)/Nrf2/heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) pathway in RAW264.7 cells, a murine macrophage cell line. Maintaining a certain range of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels is critical to basic cellular activities, while excessive ROS generation can override the antioxidant capacity of the cell and result in oxidative stress damage. The inhibition of ROS generation offers an effective target for preventing oxidative damage. The results of the present study revealed that pretreatment with TPs inhibited the production of intracellular ROS and protected RAW264.7 cells from H2O2-induced oxidative damage. TPs was also demonstrated to attenuate the production of nitric oxide and malondialdehyde and increase the levels of antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase). In addition, following TPs treatment, alterations in Mst1/2 at the mRNA and protein level inhibited the production of ROS and promoted the self-regulation of antioxidation. TPs-induced Keap1 gene downregulation also increased the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1. Collectively, the results of the present study demonstrated that TPs provided protection against H2O2-induced oxidative injury in RAW264.7 cells.

Abstract
It is well-established that green tea supplementation has antioxidant properties. However, whether green tea supplementation leads to oxidative stress reduction remains unclear, as clinical investigations on this subject have yielded inconsistent outcomes. Consequently, we aimed to determine the effects of green tea supplementation on oxidative stress in adults. A systematic search of English language publications up to 21 August 2021 was carried out in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and ISI Web of Science, utilizing pertinent keywords. These searches included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the relationship between green tea supplementation, malondialdehyde (MDA), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in adults. A random-effects model was used to estimate the weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). Meta-regression and non-linear dose-response analyses were performed to investigate the association between the dosage of green tea (mg/day) and the duration of the intervention (weeks) with pooled effect size. Sixteen RCTs with seventeen arms including 760 participants met the inclusion criteria. Our results indicated that green tea supplementation had significant effects on TAC (weighted mean difference [WMD]: 0.20 mmol/L; 95% CI: 0.09, 0.30, p < 0.001) and significant heterogeneity between studies (I2 = 98.6%, p < 0.001), which was largely related to gender and body mass index (BMI). Subgroup analysis in TAC identified a significant relationship except with low dose supplementation and obese individuals. No relationship between MDA and green tea supplementation was observed in any subgroups; however, meta-regression analysis revealed a linear inverse association between the dosage and significant change in MDA (r = −2117.18, p = 0.017). Our outcomes suggest that green tea supplementation improves TAC and affects MDA based on the dose of the intervention in adults. Future RCTs with longer durations are needed to expand our findings.

Abstract
The annual spread of influenza A virus (IAV) infection is a global concern. We examined the IAV-inactivating potential of theaflavin-concentrated tea extract TY-1, which contains abundant polyphenols, including concentrated theaflavins and catechins. TY-1 exhibited concentration- and time-dependent virucidal activity against IAV. Specifically, 5.0 mg/mL TY-1 induced a 1.33 and ≥ 5.17 log10 50% tissue culture infective dose/mL reduction of the viral titer compared with dextrin as the diluent control within 30 min and 6 h reaction time, respectively. The high virucidal activity of TY-1 was attributed to the combined additive activities of multiple virucidal components, including theaflavins, which led to an investigation of the virucidal mechanism of action of TY-1. Western blotting revealed that TY-1 treatment reduced the band intensity of hemagglutinin and induced the appearance of additional high molecular mass bands/ladders. In addition, TY-1 treatment also reduced the band intensity of neuraminidase (NA). A hemagglutination assay revealed that TY-1 reduced hemagglutination activity, and an NA assay revealed reduced NA activity. These results indicated that TY-1 caused structural abnormalities in IAV spike proteins, possibly leading to their destruction. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (PCR) targeting the IAV genome and electron microscopic observation of viral particles revealed that upon application of TY-1, the PCR products dissipated, which indicates that TY-1 destroyed the IAV genome, and the number of viral particles reduced. Overall, TY-1 exhibited multiple modes of IAV-inactivating activity. Our findings support the possible future practical use of TY-1 as a virucidal supplemental agent that can contribute to IAV infection control.

Abstract
The production of high-quality tea by Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Ktze is the goal pursued by both producers and consumers. Rapid, nondestructive, and low-cost monitoring methods for monitoring tea quality could improve the tea quality and the economic benefits associated with tea. This research explored the possibility of monitoring tea leaf quality from multi-spectral images. Threshold segmentation and manual sampling methods were used to eliminate the image background, after which the spectral features were constructed. Based on this, the texture features of the multi-spectral images of the tea canopy were extracted. Three machine learning methods, partial least squares regression, support vector machine regression, and random forest regression (RFR), were used to construct and train multiple monitoring models. Further, the four key quality parameters of tea polyphenols, total sugars, free amino acids, and caffeine content were estimated using these models. Finally, the effects of automatic and manual image background removal methods, different regression methods, and texture features on the model accuracies were compared. The results showed that the spectral characteristics of the canopy of fresh tea leaves were significantly correlated with the tea quality parameters (r ≥ 0.462). Among the sampling methods, the EXG_Ostu sampling method was best for prediction, whereas, among the models, RFR was the best fitted modeling algorithm for three of four quality parameters. The R2 and root-mean-square error values of the built model were 0.85 and 0.16, respectively. In addition, the texture features extracted from the canopy image improved the prediction accuracy of most models. This research confirms the modeling application of a combination of multi-spectral images and chemometrics, as a low-cost, fast, reliable, and nondestructive quality control method, which can effectively monitor the quality of fresh tea leaves. This provides a scientific reference for the research and development of portable tea quality monitoring equipment that has general applicability in the future.

Abstract
There has been a dramatic increase in the incidence of Barrett's esophagus and esophageal adenocarcinoma over the past several decades with a continued rise expected in the future. Several strategies have been developed for screening and surveillance of patients with Barrett's esophagus and endoscopic treatment of Barrett's associated dysplasia and early esophageal cancer; however, they have not made a substantial impact on the incidence of cancer. Herein, chemoprevention becomes an attractive idea for reducing the incidence of cancer in Barrett's patients. Several agents appear promising in preclinical and observational studies but very few have been evaluated in randomized controlled trials. Strongest evidence to date is available for proton-pump inhibitors and Aspirin that have been evaluated in a large randomized controlled trial. Other agents such as statins, metformin, ursodeoxycholic acid, and dietary supplements have insufficient evidence for chemoprevention in Barrett's patients.

Abstract
The global pandemic due to the novel Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has taken more than a million lives. Lack of definitive vaccine/drugs against this highly contagious virus has accelerated exploratory research on novel natural and synthetic inhibitors. Tea is a rich source of bioactives and known to have antiviral properties. In this study, an in silico strategy involving ADMET property screening, receptor-ligand docking and molecular dynamic (MD) simulation was employed to screen potential tea bio-active inhibitors against three selected targets (RdRp, 3CLpro and PLpro) of SARS-CoV-2. Among the 70 tea bioactives screened, theaflavin 3,3'-di-gallate (TF3), Procyanidin B2 and Theaflavin 3-gallate (TF2a) exhibited highest binding affinities towards RdRp, 3CLpro/Mpro and PLpro targets of SARS-CoV-2 with low docking scores of -14.92, -11.68 and -10.90 kcal/mol, respectively. All of them showed a substantial number of hydrogen bonds along with other interactions in and around the active sites. Interestingly, the top bioactives in our study showed higher binding affinities compared with known antiviral drugs. Further, the top protein-ligand complexes showed less conformational changes during binding when subjected to MD simulation for 100 nanoseconds. The MMPBSA results revealed that RdRp-TF3, 3CLpro-Procyanidin B2 and PLpro-TF2a complexes were stable with binding free energies of -93.59 ± 43.97, -139.78 ± 16.51 and -96.88 ± 25.39 kJ/mol, respectively. Our results suggest that theaflavin 3,3'-digallate, Theaflavin 3-gallate and Procyanidin B2 found in black tea have the potential to act as inhibitors for selected targets of SARS-CoV-2 and can be considered as drug candidates in future studies against COVID-19.

Abstract
Radiofrequency exposure from man-made sources has increased drastically with the era of advanced technology. People could not escape from such RF radiations as they have become the essential part of our routine life such as Wi-Fi, microwave ovens, TV, mobile phones, etc. Although non-ionizing radiations are less damaging than ionizing radiations but its long term exposure effect cannot be avoided. For fertility to be affected, either there is an alteration in germ cell, or its nourishing environment, and RF affects both the parameters subsequently, leading to infertility. This review with the help of in vitro and in vivo studies shows that RF could change the morphology and physiology of germ cells with affected spermatogenesis, motility and reduced concentration of male gametes. RF also results in genetic and hormonal changes. In addition, the contribution of oxidative stress and protein kinase complex after RFR exposure is also summarized which could also be the possible mechanism for reduction in sperm parameters. Further, some preventative measures are described which could help in reverting the radiofrequency effects on germ cells.

Abstract
Objective Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) and low back pain caused by IDD have attracted public attention owing to their extremely high incidence and disability rate. Oxidative stress is a major cause of IDD. Tea polyphenols (TP) are natural-derived antioxidants extracted from tea leaves. This study explored the protective role of TP on the nucleus pulposus cells (NPCs) of intervertebral discs and their underlying mechanism. Methods An in vitro model of H2O2-induced degeneration of NPCs was established. RT-qPCR and western blotting were used to detect the mRNA and protein expression of the targets. An in vivo model of IDD was established via acupuncture of the intervertebral disc. Radiological imaging and histological staining were performed to evaluate the protective role of TP. Results H2O2 contributed to NPC degeneration by inducing high levels of oxidative stress. TP treatment effectively increased the expression of nucleus pulposus matrix-associated genes and reduced the expression of degeneration factors. Further mechanistic studies showed that TP delayed H2O2-mediated NPC degeneration by activating the Keap1/Nrf2/ARE pathway. In vivo experiments showed that TP delayed the degeneration of NPCs in rats through the Keap1/Nrf2/ARE pathway. Conclusion Our study confirmed that TP activates the Keap1/Nrf2/ARE pathway to exert an antioxidative stress role, ultimately delaying the degeneration of intervertebral discs.

Abstract
The catechins derived from green tea possess antioxidant activity and may have a potentially anticancer effect. PTP1B is tyrosine phosphatase that is oxidative stress regulated and is involved with prooncogenic pathways leading to the formation of a.o. breast cancer. Here, we present the effect of selected green tea catechins on enzymatic activity of PTP1B phosphatase and viability of MCF-7 breast cancer cells. We showed also the computational analysis of the most effective catechin binding with a PTP1B molecule. We observed that epigallocatechin, epigallocatechin gallate, epicatechin, and epicatechin gallate may decrease enzymatic activity of PTP1B phosphatase and viability of MCF-7 cells. Conclusions: From the tested compounds, epigallocatechin and epigallocatechin gallate were the most effective inhibitors of the MCF-7 cell viability. Moreover, epigallocatechin was also the strongest inhibitor of PTP1B activity. Computational analysis allows us also to conclude that epigallocatechin is able to interact and bind to PTP1B. Our results suggest also the most predicted binding site to epigallocatechin binding to PTP1B.
