Abstract
A new 1,8-naphthalimide derivative (probe 1) adopts V-shaped structure, emits fluorescence and displays the Mie effect and aggregation-induced emission (AIE). Selective interactions of thiophilic Ag+ and Hg2+ ions (10 µM) with 1 (10 µM) resulted in AIEs at 499 and 521 nm, respectively. Both Ag+ and Hg2+ induce the formation of 1:2 complexes with 1, leading to the formation of AIE active aggregates with an average size of 423 and 198 nm, respectively. The formation of crystalline needles with Ag+ and spherical aggregates with Hg2+ results in wavelength specific AIE that permits the naked-eye and fluorometric detection of Ag+ and Hg2+ ions. Probe 1 shows excellent selectivity toward Ag+ and Hg2+ among various metal ions, therefore, 1 is suitable for the selective and quantitative detection of Ag+ and Hg2+ ions. Job plots are used for the determination of the stoichiometry of the complexes formed. It is evident from the fluorescence images of probe 1 in Rhizoctonia oryzae mycelia cells that they can be employed as potential candidates for in-vitro bioimaging.

Abstract
A novel coumarin-naphthalimide-based ratiometric fluorescent probe, called XPT, was synthesized with the aim of achieving high sensitivity and anti-interference for N2H4 detection. The probe XPT consists of coumarin species and naphthalimide species, which act as the energy donor and acceptor, respectively. The phthalimide group functions as the recognition unit for N2H4. Without the presence of hydrazine, the naphthalimide remains in a non-fluorogenic phthalimide mode, disrupting the FRET signal. However, the phthalimide group undergoes the Gabriel reaction to an amine, which induces FRET and consequently causes a shift in the emitted fluorescence from 468 to 528 nm when N2H4 was added. The results of the study demonstrated that XPT exhibits high sensitivity with a limit of detection 2.2 μM, as well as selectivity. Furthermore, it is remarkable that the distribution of N2H4 in real water samples can be monitored by XPT.

Abstract
In this paper, four novel hydrazine fluorescent probes X1-X4 with bis-chalcone structure were designed and synthesized. Through the measurement of its optical properties, it is found that it can quickly identify hydrazine, high sensitivity, low detection limit, and good anti-interference ability. The recognition of hydrazine by probes X1-X4 is not affected in the pH range of 4-10, X2 has the highest sensitivity, and the detection limit is as low as 0.336 × 10-7 M. Through Gaussian quantization calculation of probe molecules and their reaction products with hydrazine, it is speculated that the recognition mechanism is the closure of intramolecular charge transfer effect. In addition, the cytotoxicity and imaging of HeLa cells were tested, which showed that probes X1-X4 could be used to detect hydrazine in cells.

Abstract
DFT and TD-DFT were used in this article to investigate the effects of different substitutions at multiple sites on the photophysical mechanism of bis-HBX in the gas phase. Four different substitution modes were selected, denoted as A1 (X=Me, Y=S), A2 (X=OMe, Y=S), B1 (X=Me, Y=NH), and C1 (X=Me, Y=O). The geometric parameters proved that the IHBs enhanced after photoexcitation, which was conducive to promote the ESIPT process. Combining the analysis of the PECs, it was revealed that the bis-HBX molecule underwent the ESIPT process, and the ease of the ESIPT process was in the order of A1 > A2> B1 > C1. In particular, the TICT process in A1 and B1 promoted the occurrence of the ESIPT process. In addition, the IC process was identified, particularly in C1. Meanwhile, the calculation of fluorescence lifetime and fluorescence rate further confirmed that A1 was the most effective fluorescent probe molecule. This theoretical research provides an innovative theoretical reference for regulating ESIPT reactions and optimizing fluorescent probe molecules.

Abstract
Hydrazine, a highly toxic compound, demands sensitive and selective detection methods. Building upon our previous studies with pre-coumarin OFF-ON sensors for fluoride anions, we extended our strategy to hydrazine sensing by adapting phenol protecting groups (propionate, levulinate, and γ-bromobutanoate) to our pre-coumarin scaffold. These probes reacted with hydrazine, yielding a fluorescent signal with low micromolar limits of detection. Mechanistic studies revealed that hydrazine deprotection may be outperformed by a retro-Knoevenagel reaction, where hydrazine acts as a nucleophile and a base yielding a fluorescent diimide compound (6,6'-((1E,1'E)-hydrazine-1,2diylidenebis(methaneylylidene))bis(3(diethylamino)phenol, 7). Additionally, our pre-coumarins unexpectedly reacted with primary amines, generating a fluorescent signal corresponding to phenol deprotection followed by cyclization and coumarin formation. The potential of compound 3 as a theranostic Turn-On coumarin precursor was also explored. We propose that its reaction with ALDOA produced a γ-lactam, blocking the catalytic nucleophilic amine in the enzyme's binding site. The cleavage of the ester group in compound 3 induced the formation of fluorescent coumarin 4. This fluorescent signal was proportional to ALDOA concentration, demonstrating the potential of compound 3 for future theranostic studies in vivo.

Abstract
Hydrazine (N2H4), a chemical compound widely used in various industrial applications, causes significant environmental and biological hazards. Therefore, it is crucial to develop methodologies for the visualization and real time tracking of N2H4. In this regard, we have constructed a novel near-infrared fluorescent probe (HBT-Cy) that can effectively detect N2H4 in various samples. HBT-Cy contains 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole (HBT), cinnamoyl (Cy), and pyridinium (Py) moieties. Importantly, HBT-Cy exhibits a rapid, selective, and highly sensitive response to N2H4. This response results in the release of HBT-Py and the generation of considerable colorimetric changes along with a significant NIR (near infrared) fluorescence signal, peaking at 685 nm. Advantages of this system include turn on NIR fluorescence with large Stokes shift, (approximately 171 nm), low limit of detection (LOD = 0.11 μM) and quantum yield (0.211). The probe with low cytotoxic behavior demonstrates strong NIR fluorescence imaging capabilities to visualize endogenous and exogenous N2H4 in live cells. This mitochondria-targetable probe shows effective subcellular localization. These results suggest that HBT-Cy is a valuable probe for tracking and investigating the behavior of N2H4 in biological systems and environmental samples.

Abstract
In this work, a novel fluorescent ratiometric switch, 8-((6-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)pyridin-2-yl)methoxy)quinoline (BIPQ), has been introduced for sensing an organophosphorus (OP) chemical vapor threat, diethyl chlorophosphate (DCP), the low-toxic mimic of the real nerve agent sarin (GB). BIPQ is efficient at detecting DCP in both solution and gaseous phase and has potential practical application with high sensitivity and selectivity. The probe shows significant ratiometric emission in the presence of DCP along with a distinct color change from blue to cyan under UV light. The sensing mechanism of the chemodosimeter is based on the generation of a new adduct, BIPQ-DCP, through a nucleophilic substitution reaction with DCP followed by a ring-closure process to form the final product. The detection limit of BIPQ for DCP was determined to be in the order of 10-8 (M) in the liquid state. DFT and TDDFT computational techniques were carried out in order to interpret the electronic properties theoretically.

Abstract
Hydrazine (N2H4) is a widely used raw material in the chemical industry, but at the same time hydrazine has extremely high toxicity. Therefore, the development of efficient detection methods is crucial for monitoring hydrazine in the environment and evaluating the biological toxicity of hydrazine. This study reports a near-infrared ratiometric fluorescent probe (DCPBCl2-Hz) for the detection of hydrazine by coupling a chlorine-substituted D-π-A fluorophore (DCPBCl2) to the recognition group acetyl. Due to the halogen effect of chlorine substitution, the fluorophore has an elevated fluorescence efficiency and a lowered pKa value and is suitable for physiological pH conditions. Hydrazine can specifically react with the acetyl group of the fluorescent probe to release the fluorophore DCPBCl2, so the fluorescence emission of the probe system significantly shifted from 490 nm to 660 nm. The fluorescent probe has many advantages, such as good selectivity, high sensitivity, large Stokes shift, and wide applicable pH range. The probe-loaded silica plates can realize convenient sensing gaseous hydrazine with content down to 1 ppm (mg/m3). Subsequently, DCPBCl2-Hz was successfully applied to detect hydrazine in soils. In addition, the probe can also penetrate living cells and allow the visualization of intracellular hydrazine. It can be anticipated that probe DCPBCl2-Hz will be a useful tool for sensing hydrazine in biological and environmental applications.

Abstract
In recent years, hydrazine hydrate has been widely used in various fields as fuel and chemical raw materials, etc. However, hydrazine hydrate is also a potential threat to living body and natural environment. The effective method is urgently needed to detect hydrazine hydrate in our living environment. Secondly, as a precious metal, palladium has attracted more and more attention because of its excellent properties in industrial manufacturing and chemical catalysis. However, its potential danger is also slowly approaching, so it is necessary to find an excellent way to detect palladium, too. Herein, a fluorescent molecule, 4,4',4'',4'''-(1,4-phenylenebis(2H-1,2,3-triazole-2,4,5-triyl)) tetrabenzoic acid (NAT), was synthesized. Firstly, NAT has very high selectivity and sensitivity for determination of Pd2+, because Pd2+ can coordinate well with carboxyl oxygen of NAT. The detection performance of Pd2+ is that the linear range is from 0.06 to 4.50 μM and the detection limit is 16.4 nM. Furthermore, the chelate (NAT-Pd2+) can continue to be used for quantitative determination of hydrazine hydrate with a linear range of 0.05-6.00 μM and the detection limit is 19.1 nM. The interaction time of NAT-Pd2+ and hydrazine hydrate is about 10 min. Of course, it also has good selectivity and strong anti-interference ability for many common metal ions, anions and amine like compounds. At last, the ability of NAT to quantitatively detect Pd2+ and hydrazine hydrate in actual samples has also been verified and the results are very satisfactory.

Abstract
Inspired by the regulatory luminescence properties of HBT derivatives, in this work, we mainly conduct a detailed theoretical exploration on the photoinduced excitation behavior of a novel di-proton-transfer type HBT derivative 1-bis(benzothiazolyl)naphthalene-diol (1-BBTND). The intramolecular double hydrogen bonding interaction and the excited state intramolecular double proton transfer (ESDPT) behavior of 1-BBTND fluorophore are investigated in combination with different polar solvent environments. From the structural changes and charge recombination induced by photoexcitation, we can conclude that strong polar solvent environment promotes the excited state dynamical reaction for 1-BBTND compound. By constructing potential energy surfaces (PESs) in S0 and S1 states, we clarify that 1-BBTND fluorophore should undergo a stepwise ESDPT reaction after photoexcitation. Combined with the size of potential energy barriers along with reaction paths in different solvents, we finally propose a new solvent-polarity-dependent stepwise ESDPT for 1-BBTND fluorophore.

Abstract
Amines are extensively present in biological systems and are abundantly used in research, industries and agriculture. Systematic detection and quantification of certain amines can help us in food quality control and diagnosis of many diseases. A Schiff base probe HL was designed and successfully synthesized. It was proposed as a sensor for the exclusive detection of 1, 3- diaminopropane through turn-on fluorescence response in a variety of solvents including water. Micromolar limits of detection was achieved in all these solvents. Mechanism of detection was proposed by investigating mass spectrometric and NMR results. These were corroborated with DFT/TD-DFT calculations. Spiking experiments performed in various real water samples revealed the potential of the sensor to be used in day-to-day applications. Paper strip experiments demonstrated the suitability of the probe for real-life applications.

Abstract
Hydrazine (N2H4) is a significant chemical reagent and widely applied in industrial field, which can bring potential risk to environmental safety and human health due to its high toxicity and potential carcinogenicity. In this paper, a flavonol-derived fluorescent probe named TB-N2H4 was rationally developed for detecting N2H4 based on the excited intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) principle. TB-N2H4 exhibited a remarkable fluorescence turn-on response toward N2H4 with a large Stokes shift of 191 nm. Moreover, TB-N2H4 could selectively recognize N2H4 over other competitive analytes, and displayed high sensitivity toward N2H4 with a low detection limit of 0.117 μM. The sensing mechanism of the probe TB-N2H4 for N2H4 was confirmed by theoretical calculation and HRMS analysis. This probe was able to quantitatively determine N2H4 in environmental water and soil samples. Additionally, TB-N2H4 was also successfully utilized for real-time tracking of the distribution of N2H4 in living zebrafish.

Abstract
For surveilling human health, industries, and the environment, pH monitoring is important. Numerous studies on fluorescent probes have been conducted to monitor various pH ranges. However, fluorescent probes that are capable of sensing alkaline regions are rare. In this study, we propose turn-on-type fluorescent probes for detecting alkaline pHs using bis[2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzazole] (bis(HBX)) derivatives. These probes have high pKa values (from 9.7 to 10.8) and exhibit strong fluorescence intensity and color changes at alkaline pHs. Probes derived from bis(HBX) exhibit good photostability, reversibility, and anti-interference toward pH variations, which can be identified as a certain fluorescence change toward a basic pH. Therefore, compounds would be advantageous to use fluorescent probes for monitoring alkaline pH changes.

Abstract
In the present work, four probe molecules for detecting hydrazine have been designed based on the 2-(4-Acetoxy-3-benzothiazole-2-yl-phenyl)-4-methyl-thiazole- 5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (HP1) to investigate the influence of the amino and cyano groups on the excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) behavior and photophysical properties. The changes in hydrogen bond strength indicate that the intramolecular hydrogen bond of all probe products is enhanced upon photoexcitation. Frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs) and natural bond orbital (NBO) reveal the driving force of ESIPT. In addition, the potential energy curves and transition state theory explain the reason for the single fluorescence phenomenon in the experiment. The simulated absorption and fluorescence spectra of HP1 and its product (HPP1) are completely consistent with the experimental results, which also verify the viewpoint. Meanwhile the cyano derivative HPP4 exhibits a larger Stokes-shift (201 nm) than that of HPP1 (145 nm) and has the same low energy barrier as HPP1. These excellent properties allow HPP4 to be a fluorescent probe with superior performance than the original molecule. In conclusion, this work can provide a theoretical basis for the design and synthesis of more sensitive fluorescent probes for the detection of hydrazine.

Abstract
A new ratiometric fluorescent probe (E)-2-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-3-(8-methoxyquinolin-2-yl)acrylonitrile (HQCN) was synthesised by the perfect blending of quinoline and a 2-benzothiazoleacetonitrile unit. In a mixed aqueous solution, HQCN reacts with hydrazine (N2H4) to give a new product 2-(hydrazonomethyl)-8-methoxyquinoline along with the liberation of the 2-benzothiazoleacetonitrile moiety. In contrast, the reaction of hypochlorite ions (OCl-) with the probe gives 8-methoxyquinoline-2-carbaldehyde. In both cases, the chemodosimetric approaches of hydrazine and hypochlorite selectively occur at the olefinic carbon but give two different products with two different outputs, as observed from the fluorescence study exhibiting signals at 455 nm and 500 nm for hydrazine and hypochlorite, respectively. A UV-vis spectroscopy study also depicts a distinct change in the spectrum of HQCN in the presence of hydrazine and hypochlorite. The hydrazinolysis of HQCN exhibits a prominent chromogenic as well as ratiometric fluorescence change with a 165 nm left-shift in the fluorescence spectrum. Similarly, the probe in hand (HQCN) can selectively detect hypochlorite in a ratiometric manner with a shift of 120 nm, as observed from the fluorescence emission spectra. HQCN can detect hydrazine and OCl- as low as 2.25 × 10-8 M and 3.46 × 10-8 M, respectively, as evaluated from the fluorescence experiments again. The excited state behaviour of the probe HQCN and the chemodosimetric products with hydrazine and hypochlorite are studied by the nanosecond time-resolved fluorescence technique. Computational studies (DFT and TDDFT) with the probe and the hydrazine and hypochlorite products were also performed. The observations made in the fluorescence imaging studies with human blood cells manifest that HQCN can be employed to monitor hydrazine and OCl- in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). It is indeed a rare case that the single probe HQCN is found to be successfully able to detect hydrazine and hypochlorite in PBMCs, with two different outputs.

Abstract
Detection of biological phosphate is very important for environmental and health care applications. In this study, a new ratiometric fluorescent probe (E)-N'-(3-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)-2-hydroxybenzylidene) picolinohydrazide (BTP) is developed and exhibits a prominent excited-state intramolecular proton-transfer (ESIPT) mechanism. The probe BTP undergoes a unique phosphate induced hydrolytic reaction in mixed aqueous solution which produces a colorimetric change associated with a huge red-shift of ∼130 nm in the UV-visible absorption spectrum. Initially, BTP exhibits a strong fluorescence emission as the ESIPT process is 'on' and the tautomeric hydrogen remains flexible and is free to give two tautomeric forms. Eventually, after the addition of PO43-, the two tautomeric forms break and thereby shift the equilibrium towards the 'enol' form. The phosphate ion binds with BTP which is associated with a ratiometric change and accounts for an enhancement in the fluorescence intensity with a large blue shift and the limit of detection value of 8.33 × 10-8 M in a mixed aqueous medium. The binding constant (1.92 × 105 M-1) proportionally reflects the stability of the complexation between the binding sites of BTP with the guest PO43- anion. The probable mechanism is supported by the NMR spectroscopy studies. The sensing phenomenon is found to be reversible towards Zn2+ and thus the sensor beautifully mimics the INHIBIT logic gate. Observations have been made in fluorescence imaging studies with human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) which indicates that BTP can be employed to successfully monitor the phosphate ion in human PBMCs.

Abstract
HClO/ClO-, as one of important reactive oxygen species, is a highly reactive unavoidable by-product generated from normal cell metabolism. In recent years, efficient method for detectiing HClO/ClO- is of great important to research its pathological or physiological function in bio-systems. In this work, we have constructed a fluorescent probe (P-Hc) with ratiometric signal for sensing HClO/ClO- in aqueous solution, physiological saline and different serums based on 2-(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl)phenol dye. The structure of P-Hc was characterized by NMR and HRMS spectrum. The sensing mechanism has also been verified by 1H NMR spectrum. The P-Hc displays good sensitivity and selectivity for HClO/ClO- with a limit of detection (LOD) of 2.03 × 10-6 M. Furthermore, P-Hc has been applied for sensing HClO/ClO- in physiological saline and different serums. Thus, P-Hc may provide a novel method for ratiometric fluorescent sensing HClO/ClO- in bio-samples.

Abstract
Recently, a new fluorescent probe AE-Phoswas reported to detect the activity of alkaline phosphatases (ALP) in different living cell lines. Here, we present an in-depth computational analysis of the mechanism and source of the fluorescence of the AE-Phos probe. There is an intermediate product (AE-OH-Phos) in the experiment as well as a different configuration of products that may emit fluorescence. It is essential to investigate the origin of fluorescence and the detection mechanism of the probe, which could help us eliminate the interference of other substances (including an intermediate product and possible isomers) on fluorescence during the experiment. According to the change of geometric parameters and Infrared spectra, we deduce that the dual intramolecular hydrogen bonds of salicylaldehyde azine (SA) were enhanced at the excited state, while AE-OH-Phos was attenuated. Considering the complex ESIPT behavior of the dual proton-type probe, the potential energy surfaces were further discussed. It can be concluded that the single proton transfer structure of SA (SA-SPT) is the most stable form. Both the concerted double proton transfer process and stepwise single proton transfer process of SA were forbidden. The fluorescence for SA was 438 nm, while that of SA-SPT was 521 nm, which agrees with the experimentally measured fluorescence wavelength (536 nm). The conclusion that single proton transfer occurs in SA is once again verified. In addition, the distribution of electron-hole and relative index was analyzed to investigate the intrinsic mechanism for the fluorescence quenching of the probe and the intermediate product. The identification of the origin of fluorescence sheds light on the design and use of dual-proton type fluorescent probes in the future.

Abstract
As a tremendously noxious and extensively utilized chemical reagent, hydrazine (N2H4) has become a serious threat to ecosystem and human health. Thus, it is desirable to exploit an efficient method for real-time tracking of hydrazine. Here, a novel ratiometric fluorescent probe PBQ-AB for hydrazine was rationally constructed from isolongifolanone. This probe displayed an extremely large Stokes shift of 230 nm and could selectively recognize hydrazine in the presence of other competitive species within an extremely short time ( 40 s). PBQ-AB also displayed some fascinating merits in the detection of hydrazine, including low detection limit (48 nM), wide pH range (5-12), excellent photostability (>240 min), and well-resolved emission wavelength shift (148 nm). Moreover, this probe was utilized to fabricate a ready-to-use electrospinning nanofibrous membrane for convenient detection of hydrazine vapor by virtue of smartphone. Furthermore, PBQ-AB was capable of determining hydrazine contaminant in environmental soil and water samples. Additionally, its favorable performance for detecting hydrazine was successfully demonstrated in live HeLa cells as well as in live Arabidopsis thaliana tissues, manifesting its promising application for labeling hydrazine in living systems. Therefore, we believed that this probe has great potential in environmental analysis and health supervision.

Abstract
Hydrazine and mercury (Hg) poisoning represented a serious hazard to human health. So, developing method to detect and recognize them is highly desirable. Here, we prepared a multifunctional colorimetric and fluorescent probe (PI-Rh) consisting of a phenanthroimidazole (PI) dye conjugated with a Rhodamine (Rh) group for the effective recognition of hydrazine and Hg2+, induvidually and collectively, with different colorimetric and fluorescence outputs. Probe PI-Rh displays low detection limits measured to be 0.0632 μM (~2 ppb) and 0.0101 μM (~2 ppb) respectively for hydrazine and Hg2+ with high selectivity and excellent sensitivity. Moreover, the experimental results indicated that the superiority of this probe lied in its wide applications, for example, successful response in real water, and soil analysis. Interestingly, an visual, rapid, and real-time detection of gaseous hydrazine can be realized with 0.2793 μM detection limit using the facile PI-Rh-impregnated test paper.

Abstract
A solvent-assisted ESIPT fluorescent dye was synthesized and used as a probe (2-PPN) for the detection of F-/Ag+ and high-resolution imaging of the cilia in live cells. The developed ESIPT fluorophore exhibited strong tautomeric fluorescence in protic solvents and normal emission in aprotic solvents, which is a significant departure from that of conventional intramolecular ESIPT compounds. The H-binding interaction of F- and the chelation of Ag+ with the ESIPT module of 2-PPN resulted in significant tautomeric emission quenching. From this basis, the 2-PPN-based assays for the detection of F- and Ag+ were established. The detection limit for F- and Ag+ sensing is 2.4 nM and 1.5 nM, respectively. The selective experimental results showed that no tautomeric fluorescence change of 2-PPN could be observed in the presence of the other inorganic ions in the same medium, revealing high selectivity of 2-PPN to F- and Ag+. Furthermore, MTT assay experiments proved that the probe 2-PPN exhibited low cytotoxicity and good cell membrane permeability. The probe was also further successfully utilized to image the cilia in vitro MCF7 cells, displaying its high-resolution imaging performance.Graphical abstract.

Abstract
We report a new sensing mechanism based on an indium-dihydroxyterephthalic acid metal-organic framework (MOF, SNNU-153), in which the spatially fitted analyte-MOF hydrogen-bond (H-bond) formation provides selective recognition while the analyte-H-bond assisted excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) and the resulting ratiometric emission act as a superior signal transducer with ultrafast response. The synergy of ESIPT signal transduction and confined MOF pore enables the SNNU-153 sensor selectively sensing hydrazine even among nitrogen-containing hydride analogs such as NH3, NH2OH, and (Me)2NNH2. The key of H-bond and associated ESIPT was further counter evidenced by an indium-2,5-dimethoxyterephthalic acid MOF (SNNU-152), where the hydroxyl protons were removed by methylation, showing near inertness to N2H4. The new molecular recognition concept thus makes SNNU-153 a powerful N2H4 sensor, which should be far-reaching to other sensing elements.

Abstract
In this work, a novel fluorescent probe with first-time-selected thiazepine backbone, TZPzine-1, was developed for selective detection of hydrazine in water samples and living cells. Chosen from our recent anti-cancer agents, TZPzine-1 inferred structurally based advantages of the optical adjustability and the hydrazine-trapping approach. It also showed applicable properties including high sensitivity (LOD = 50 nM), wide linear range (0–15 equiv.), high selectivity (especially from competing species), rapid response (within 20 min), and practical steadiness in various pH (6.0–11.0) and temperature (15–50 °C) conditions. To satisfy the interdisciplinary requirements in environmental toxicology, TZPzine-1 was successfully applied in water samples and living cells. We hope that the information in this work, as well as the concept of monitoring the nitrogen cycle, may be referable for future research on systematic management.

Abstract
Hydrazine or hydrazine hydrate (N2H4·H2O) is a potential neurotoxin and has several mutagenic effects in physiological systems. Therefore, the development of synthetic organic probes that are sensitive and selective to hydrazine is of tremendous importance. Unfortunately, however, the hydrazine-selective sensing probes that rely upon minimum usage of the organic solvents (≤5%, v/v) are still rarer. In this work, an ion-pair-like mono acetate derivative of bromophenol blue has been developed as a fairly selective ratiometric probe for the naked-eye recognition of hydrazine in a solution of tris buffer and EtOH (19:1, v/v) at physiological pH. The chromogenic signalling relies upon hydrazine-induced cleavage of an ester moiety of the probe to its resonance stabilized quinonoid form, resulting in momentous variations in its spectrophotometric profile. Meanwhile, the colour of the probe solution changed from mustard yellow to blue within few minutes. This sensing assay could be successfully applied in the recognition of hydrazine in real environmental and pharmaceutical samples with satisfactory recoveries. Given the cost-effectiveness, simplicity and versatility, for instance, direct analysis of colorimetric probes, it is reasonable to propose that the present method can serve as a complementary method for prompt inspection of hydrazine in boiler feed water.

Abstract
In this work, we attempted to develop a fluorescent probe for hydrazine in real samples. Accordingly, we designed BER9-HZ to fulfill the set rules as solubility, anti-interference capability and functional compatibility. The selected reporting group BER9 dissolved 100% within 10 min, which indicated much better solubility than Berberine. The 615 nm reporting signal was in the Near-Infrared region. BER9-HZ presented advantages including wide linear range (0-20 equivalent), high sensitivity (detection limit 0.076 μM), steadiness (pH 7.0-13.0, temperature 25-45 °C), rapid response (within 20 min) and high selectivity in both independent and co-existing systems. Significantly, BER9-HZ could work steadily in real environmental, plant and food samples, thus be used in the detection of hydrazine (directly incubated or pre-treated with real sample) in living cells. Therefore, this work marched one step further to the systematic managing of hydrazine in real samples, and raised useful information for future investigations on Nitrogen circulation.

Abstract
Hydrazine (N2H4) is an environment pollutant with high acute toxicity and potential carcinogenicity, and detection of N2H4 has attracted increasing attention. In the present study, a low toxicity near-infrared fluorescent probe (DCDB) based on the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) principle was developed. The probe DCDB exhibits excellent selectivity and high sensitivity (LOD = 1.27 ppb) for N2H4, fast reaction rate (5 min), extremely large Stokes shift (160 nm). The color transformation of the DCDB-N2H4 system from purple to pink can be observed with the naked eye. The success of N2H4 test strips to detect trace N2H4 in actual sewage strongly illustrates the practical application potential of DCDB. Importantly, DCDB can be utilized to monitor the distribution of exogenous N2H4 in vivo and in vitro.

Abstract
Although being as an important chemical material in industry, hydrazine (N2H4) is highly toxic to the humans and animals. The development of sensitive methods for the detection of hydrazine is meaningful. Herein, we develop a new organic-inorganic hybrid nanoprobe for the detection of N2H4 based on luminescent resonance energy transfer (LRET) process. The nanoprobe contains N2H4-responsive NIR cyanine dye (CQM1) and α-cyclodextrin (CD) anchored on the surface of lanthanide-doped upconversion nanophosphors (UCNPs). In the presence of hydrazine, the hybrid materials (CQM1-UCNPs) showed the a large ratiometric luminescent signal change with high sensitivity and selectivity. More importantly, by taking advantage of ratiometric Upconversion luminescent (UCL) signal and the features of NIR emission/excitation, the nanoprobe was successfully applied for visualization of hydrazine in living cells for the first time.

Abstract
In this paper, the synthesis of a naphthalene diimide (NDI) derivative with a donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) molecular structure substituted with a long alkyl chain (12 carbons) containing naphthalene hydrazide at the imide position is reported. The reduced emission quantum yield (φf = 0.01-0.03) of the NDI derivative in various solvents indicates the perturbation of the electronic state of π-electron deficient NDI (A) by the peripheral naphthalene (D) units. The investigation of the influence of the alkyl chain and naphthalene substituent on the self-assembling properties of the NDI derivative reveals an isodesmic mode of self-assembly in a chloroform/methylcyclohexane (CHCl3/MCH, 1 : 9, v/v) mixture. The self-assembling nature of the NDI derivative also results in the formation of an organogel in the CHCl3/MCH (1 : 9, v/v) mixture, and gel formation is well-comprehended by techniques such as P-XRD, rheological studies, and FT-IR measurements. Furthermore, radical anion (NDI˙-) formation of π-acidic NDI was used as a sensing tool for hydrazine by a fluorescence "turn-on" (φf = 0.12) method in the solution (DMSO), film, and gel state with a detection limit of 284.1 ppb in DMSO and 32 ppb in the gel state.

Abstract
The dyes (P-1 and P-2) of perylenebisimide (PBI) conjugated with 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzothiazole (HBT) were prepared by Sonogashira coupling reaction. The new compounds have special photophysical properties, such as near infrared absorption/emission and large Stokes shift. The UV-vis absorption (range from 651 nm to 690 nm) and emission wavelength (range from 732 nm to 756 nm) of P-1 and P-2 extend to near infrared range. Importantly, they have much larger Stokes shifts (range from 73 nm to 105 nm) compared with the conventional PBI derivatives, such as 7 (from 19 nm to 65 nm) and 9 (from 81 nm to 86 nm). TD-DFT calculation was used to rationalize UV-vis absorption, emission and especially large Stokes shift from the theoretical point of view. We found geometry relaxation of P-1 and P-2 in the excited state is an important reason for the origin of large Stokes shift besides intramolecular electron transfer (ICT). The dyes with near infrared absorption/emission and large stokes shifts induced by geometry relaxation were prepared.![]()
