Abstract
Polyethers-polymers with the structural element (R'-O-R)n in their backbone--are an old class of polymers which were already used at the time of the ancient Egyptians. However, still today these materials are highly important with applications in all areas of our life, reaching from the automotive and paper industry to cosmetics and biomedical applications. In this Review, different aliphatic polyethers like poly(epoxide)s, poly(oxetane)s, and poly(tetrahydrofuran) are discussed. Special emphasis is placed on the history, the polymerization techniques (industrially and in academia), the properties, the applications as well as recent developments of these materials.

Abstract
The [4+2] cycloaddition of 3-alkoxyfurans with N-substituted maleimides provides the first general route for preparing endo-cantharimides. Unlike the corresponding reaction with 3H furans, the reaction can tolerate a broad range of 2-substitued furans including alkyl, aromatic, and heteroaromatic groups. The cycloaddition products were converted into a range of cantharimide products with promising lead-like properties for medicinal chemistry programs. Furthermore, the electron-rich furans are shown to react with a variety of alternative dienophiles to generate 7-oxabicyclo[2.2.1]heptane derivatives under mild conditions. DFT calculations have been performed to rationalize the activation effect of the 3-alkoxy group on a furan Diels-Alder reaction.

Abstract
The tert-butyl group is a common motif in medicinal chemistry. Its incorporation into bioactive compounds is often accompanied by unwanted property modulation, such as increased lipophilicity and decreased metabolic stability. Several alternative substituents are available for the drug discovery process. Herein, physicochemical data of two series of drug analogues of bosentan and vercirnon are documented as part of a comparative study of tert-butyl, pentafluorosulfanyl, trifluoromethyl, bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanyl, and cyclopropyl-trifluoromethyl substituents.

Abstract
The direct α-arylation of cyclic and acyclic ethers with heteroarenes has been accomplished through the design of a photoredox-mediated CH functionalization pathway. Transiently generated α-oxyalkyl radicals, produced from a variety of widely available ethers through hydrogen atom transfer (HAT), were coupled with a range of electron-deficient heteroarenes in a Minisci-type mechanism. This mild, visible-light-driven protocol allows direct access to medicinal pharmacophores of broad utility using feedstock substrates and a commercial photocatalyst.

Abstract
Oxetanes offer exciting potential as structural motifs and intermediates in drug discovery and materials science. Here an efficient strategy for the synthesis of oxetane rings incorporating pendant functional groups is described. A wide variety of oxetane 2,2-dicarboxylates were accessed in high yields, including functionalized 3-/4-aryl- and alkyl-substituted oxetanes and fused oxetane bicycles. Enantioenriched alcohols provided enantioenriched oxetanes with complete retention of configuration. The oxetane products were further derivatized, while the ring was maintained intact, thus highlighting their potential as building blocks for medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
Herein, we report the application of allyl acetate to the palladium-catalysed dearomatising diallylation of indoles. The reaction can be carried out by using a readily available palladium catalyst at room temperature, and can be applied to a wide range of substituted indoles to provide access to the corresponding 3,3-diallylindolinines. These compounds are versatile synthetic intermediates that readily undergo Ugi reactions or proline-catalysed asymmetric Mannich reactions. Alternatively, acylation of the 3,3-diallylindolinines with an acid chloride or a chloroformate, followed by treatment with aluminium chloride, enables 2,3-diallylindoles to be prepared. By using ring-closing metathesis, functionalised spirocyclic indoline scaffolds can be accessed from the Ugi products, and a dihydrocarbazole can be prepared from the corresponding 2,3-diallylindole.

Abstract
A facile, efficient, and highly diastereo- and enantioselective bromoetherification of diolefinic diols has been developed using an amino-thiocarbamate catalyst. Further manipulations of the bromoether products enabled entry into a new class of spirocycles which are distinctively lacking in the literature.

Abstract
A cool break: 3-Azetidinone and a variety of diynes undergo a cycloaddition reaction catalyzed by Ni/IPr to give dihydroazocine compounds (see scheme; IPr=1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolidene). The reaction involves a challenging C(sp)2-C(sp)3 bond cleavage step, yet, surprisingly, proceeds at low temperature.
