Abstract
An efficient procedure for the synthesis of benzoxazoles by the heteroannulation of nitriles and o-aminophenols in the presence of a catalytic amount of copper(II) trifluoromethanesulfonate, has been developed. This method represents a practical and attractive alternative for the synthesis of both 2-arylbenzoxazoles and 2-alkylbenzoxazoles.

Abstract
The preparation of aminomethyl functionalised silanes based on the α-lithiated amine, (1R,2R)-N,N,N',N'-tetramethylcyclohexane-1,2-diamine [(R,R)-TMCDA] is reported. This methodology can be applied for the synthesis of mono-aminomethyl substituted systems, but most remarkably also for di- and trifunctionalised compounds. The trapping of the lithiated amine is accompanied by transmetallation reactions resulting in the formation of (silylmethyl)silanes depending on the reaction temperature. The zinc(II) halide complexes of the mono-functionalised systems show the formation of exclusively one configuration of the stereogenic nitrogen atom, in which the spatially more demanding substituent exhibits the pseudo-equatorial position. The di- and trifunctionalised systems feature high sensitivity towards Si-C bond cleavage under re-formation of the (R,R)-TMCDA fragment.

Abstract
A direct access to symmetrical and unsymmetrical 2,5-disubstituted [1,3,4]-oxadiazoles has been accomplished through an imine C-H functionalization of N-arylidenearoylhydrazide using a catalytic quantity of Cu(OTf)(2). This is the first example of amidic oxygen functioning as a nucleophile in a Cu-catalyzed oxidative coupling of an imine C-H bond. These reactions can be performed in air atmosphere and moisture making it exceptionally practical for application in organic synthesis.

Abstract
A general method for a highly regioselective copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of two aromatic compounds using iodine as an oxidant has been developed. The reactions involve an initial iodination of one arene followed by arylation of the most acidic C-H bond of the other coupling component. Cross-coupling of electron-rich arenes, electron-poor arenes, and five- and six-membered heterocycles is possible in many combinations. Typically, a 1/1.5 to 1/3 ratio of coupling components is used, in contrast to existing methodology that often employs a large excess of one of the arenes. Common functionalities such as ester, ketone, aldehyde, ether, nitrile, nitro, and amine are well-tolerated.

Abstract
A novel and simple method for the direct amidation of azoles with formamides has been developed. The reaction could occur smoothly in the presence of tert-butyl perbenzoate (TBPB) as an oxidant under metal- and base-free conditions. Direct dehydrogenative cross-coupling of formamides and azoles generated the corresponding products in good yields.

Abstract
CuO nanospindles have been developed to efficiently catalyze the direct arylation of heterocycle C-H bonds with moderate to excellent yields. This reaction can be applied to heterocycles such as benzoxazole, benzothiazole, and 1-methylbenzimidazole in the presence of a more environmentally friendly inorganic base like K(2)CO(3) under ligand-free catalytic conditions. In addition, the catalyst can be recycled and reused without any significant decrease in catalytic activity.

Abstract
(E)-beta-aryl vinyl iodides are synthesized in high yield with excellent stereoselectivity from benzyl bromides by a one-pot homologation/stereoselective elimination procedure. Convenient conditions involving the anion of diiodomethane and an excess of base provide complete consumption of the benzyl bromide and elimination from a diiodoalkane intermediate. Similar conditions provide (E)-beta-aryl vinyl chlorides and bromides by employing the anions of ICH(2)Cl or CH(2)Br(2). The functional group tolerance and facile purification allows rapid access to a wide range of functionalized vinyl halides.

Abstract
Suzuki and Stille cross-coupling reactions are surveyed for site-selective C-4 and C-5 elaboration of 2-(phenylsulfonyl)-1,3-oxazole derivatives. Conditions for mild reductive desulfonylations provide for direct incorporation of the intact oxazole heterocycle through bonding at C-4 and C-5.

Abstract
Deprotonation of 2-(phenylsulfonyl)-1,3-oxazole (1) readily provides a useful C-5 carbanion that is reactive with a variety of electrophiles. Aldehydes and ketones are useful substrates, and the formation of 5-iodo- and 5-tri-n-butylstannyl oxazoles affords access to cross-coupling reactions. Subsequent nucleophilic displacement of the 2-phenylsulfonyl group provides a general route for the synthesis of 2,5-disubstituted-1,3-oxazoles.

Abstract
The area of transition-metal-catalyzed direct arylation through cleavage of C-H bonds has undergone rapid development in recent years, and is becoming an increasingly viable alternative to traditional cross-coupling reactions with organometallic reagents. In particular, palladium and ruthenium catalysts have been described that enable the direct arylation of (hetero)arenes with challenging coupling partners--including electrophilic aryl chlorides and tosylates as well as simple arenes in cross-dehydrogenative arylations. Furthermore, less expensive copper, iron, and nickel complexes were recently shown to be effective for economically attractive direct arylations.
