Abstract
A copper(i)-catalyzed dearomative borylation of N-alkoxycarbonyl protected indole-3-carboxylates has been developed. The boron addition in this reaction occurred regioselectively at the 2-position of indoles followed by diastereoselective protonation, affording the corresponding stable cyclic chiral α-amino boronates (2-borylindolines) in moderate to good yields with excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivities. The product 2c could be used as a versatile precursor to undergo subsequent stereoselective transformations, delivering highly functionalized 2,3,3-trisubstituted chiral indolines.

Abstract
A method for transition metal-free 1,2-carboboration of unactivated alkenes with bis(catecholato)diboron as the boron source in combination with alkyl halides as the alkyl component is introduced. The three-component reaction proceeds via a radical pathway on a broad range of unactivated alkenes, and the 1,2-carboboration products serve as valuable synthetic building blocks. Density functional theory calculations provide insights into the mechanism.

Abstract
A benzylation of aldehydes using primary and secondary benzylboronic acid pinacol esters is reported. Activation of the boronic ester with s-butyllithium rendered it nucleophilic toward aldehydes. The activated nucleophile chemoselectively transfers the benzyl group over the s-butyl group, providing excellent yields of the benzylated products. 11B NMR experiments were performed to study the mechnism of this transformation.

Abstract
A radical borylative cyclization reaction of 1,6-dienes was developed to assemble boron-handled six-membered heterocycles and carbocycles. This reaction was initiated by the chemo- and regio-controlled addition of an N-heterocyclic carbene-boryl radical to one of the alkene tethers, followed by an intramolecular 6- exo cyclization to afford a six-membered ring framework. The utility of this method was demonstrated in the synthesis of diverse paroxetine analogues through late-stage derivatization of the boryl functional unit.

Abstract
A nickel-catalyzed reductive arylation of ambiphilic α-bromoalkyl boronic esters with aryl halides is described. This platform provides an unrecognized opportunity to promote the catalytic umpolung reactivity of ambiphilic reagents with aryl halides, thus unlocking a new cross-coupling strategy that complements existing methods for the preparation of densely functionalized alkyl-substituted organometallic reagents from simple and readily accessible precursors.

Abstract
A method for the conjunctive functionalization of vinyl boronate complexes with electrophiles is described. The overall process represents a three-component coupling between a vinyl boronic ester, carbon nucleophile and an electrophile, thus affording complex multifunctionalized products from simple starting materials. The diastereoselectivity (syn or anti) of this process is strongly dependent upon the nature of the electrophile.

Abstract
Furan‐ and indole‐derived boronate complexes react with alkyl iodides under radical (photoredox) or polar (SN2) conditions to generate three‐component alkylation products with high efficiency and complete stereospecificity. The methodology allows the incorporation of versatile functional groups such as nitriles, ketones, esters, sulfones, and amides, providing rapid access to complex chiral heteroaromatic molecules in enantioenriched form. Interestingly, while indolyl boronate complexes react directly with alkyl halides in a polar pathway, furyl boronates require photoredox catalysis. Careful mechanistic analysis revealed that the boronate complex not only serves as a substrate in the reaction but also acts as a reductive quencher for the excited state of the photocatalyst.

Abstract
Cross-coupling of organoboron compounds with electrophiles (Suzuki-Miyaura reaction) has greatly advanced C-C bond formation and has been well received in medicinal chemistry. During the past 50 years, transition metals have played a central role throughout the catalytic cycle of this important transformation. In this process, chemoselectivity among multiple carbon-halogen bonds is a common challenge. In particular, selective oxidative addition of transition metals to alkyl halides rather than aryl halides is difficult due to unfavorable transition states and bond strengths. We describe a new approach that uses a single organic sulfide catalyst to activate both C(sp3) halides and arylboronic acids via a zwitterionic boron "ate" intermediate. This "ate" species undergoes a 1,2-metalate shift to afford Suzuki coupling products using benzyl chlorides and arylboronic acids. Various diaryl methane analogues can be prepared, including those with complex and biologically active motifs. The reactions proceed under transition-metal-free conditions, and C(sp2) halides, including aryl bromides and iodides, are unaffected. The orthogonal chemoselectivity is demonstrated in the streamlined synthesis of highly functionalized diaryl methane scaffolds using multi-halogenated substrates. Preliminary mechanistic experiments suggest both the sulfonium salt and the sulfur ylide are involved in the reaction, with the formation of sulfonium salt being the slowest step in the overall catalytic cycle.

Abstract
Coupling of readily available boronic acids and diazo compounds has emerged recently as a powerful metal-free carbon-carbon bond forming method. However, the difficulty in forming the unstable diazo compound partner in a mild fashion has hitherto limited their general use and the scope of the transformation. Here, we report the application of oxadiazolines as precursors for the generation of an unstable family of diazo compounds using flow UV photolysis and their first use in divergent protodeboronative and oxidative C(sp2 )-C(sp3 ) cross-coupling processes, with excellent functional-group tolerance.

Abstract
The coupling of ortho- and para-phenols with secondary and tertiary boronic esters has been explored. In the case of para-substituted phenols, after reaction of a dilithio phenolate species with a boronic ester, treatment with Ph3 BiF2 or Martin's sulfurane gave the coupled product with complete enantiospecificity. The methodology was applied to the synthesis of the broad spectrum antibacterial natural product (-)-4-(1,5-dimethylhex-4-enyl)-2-methyl phenol. For ortho-substituted phenols, initial incorporation of a benzotriazole on the phenol oxygen atom was required. Subsequent ortho-lithiation and borylation gave the coupled product, again with complete stereospecificity.

Abstract
A highly regio- and enantioselective cobalt-catalyzed hydroboration/hydrogenation of internal alkynes with HBpin and a hydrogen balloon in one pot was developed. A new type of chiral imidazoline iminopyridine (IIP) ligand was introduced for the first time in this novel and efficient strategy. This protocol used relatively simple and available starting materials with good functional group tolerance to construct more valuable chiral secondary organoboronates. The primary mechanistic studies illustrated that the cobalt-catalyzed regioselective hydroboration of alkynes did initially occur followed by HBpin-promoted and cobalt-catalyzed enantioselective hydrogenation of alkenylboronates.

Abstract
We report an efficient and highly enantioselective hydroboration of aliphatic 1,1-disubstituted alkenes with pinacolborane using a phosphine-Cu catalyst. The method allows facile preparation of enantiomerically enriched β-chiral alkyl pinacolboronates from a range of 1,1-disubstituted alkenes with high enantioselectivity up to 99% ee. Unprecedented enantiodiscrimination between the geminal alkyl substituents was observed with functional group compatibility in the hydroboration. Furthermore, a catalyst loading as low as 1 mol % furnished the desired product without a decrease in yield or selectivity, demonstrating its efficiency in gram scale synthesis.

Abstract
Organoboron compounds play an irreplaceable role in synthetic chemistry and the related transformations based on the unique reactivity of C-B bond are potentially the most efficient methods for the synthesis of organic molecules. The synthetic importance of multiboron compounds in C-C bond formation and function transformation reactions is growing and the related borations of activated or nonactivated alkenes have been developed recently. However, introducing directly two boron moieties into the terminal sites of alkenes giving 1,1-diborylalkanes in a catalytic fashion has not been explored yet. Here we describe a synthetic strategy of 1,1-diborylalkanes via a Ni-catalyzed 1,1-diboration of readily available terminal alkenes. This methodology shows high level of chemoselectivity and regioselectivity and can be used to convert a large variety of terminal alkenes, such as vinylarenes, aliphatic alkenes and lower alkenes, to 1,1-diborylalkanes.1,1-diborylalkanes are useful building blocks in synthetic chemistry. Here, the authors present a highly chemo- and regioselective Ni-catalyzed reaction for the synthesis of 1,1-diborylalkanes from a wide variety of readily available terminal alkenes.

Abstract
A practical, efficient and broadly applicable catalytic method for synthesis of easily differentiable vicinal diboronate compounds is presented. Reactions are promoted by a combination of PCy3 or PPh3, CuCl and LiOt-Bu and may be performed with readily accessible alkenyl boronate substrates. Through the use of an alkenyl-B(pin) (pin = pinacolato) or alkenyl- B(dan) (dan = naphthalene-1,8-diaminato) starting material and commercially available (pin)B- B(dan) or B2(pin)2 as the reagent, a range of vicinal diboronates, including those that contain a B-substituted quaternary carbon center, may be prepared in up to 91% yield and with >98% site selectivity. High enantioselectivities can be obtained (up to 96:4 er) through the use of commercially available chiral bis-phosphine ligands for reactions that afford mixed diboronate products.

Abstract
The enantiospecific coupling of secondary and tertiary boronic esters to aromatics has been investigated. Using p‐lithiated phenylacetylenes and a range of boronic esters coupling has been achieved by the addition of N‐bromosuccinimide (NBS). The alkyne functionality of the intermediate boronate complex reacts with NBS triggering the 1,2‐migration of the group on boron to carbon giving a dearomatized bromoallene intermediate. At this point elimination and rearomatization occurs with neopentyl boronic esters, giving the coupled products. However, using pinacol boronic esters, the boron moiety migrates to the adjacent carbon resulting in formation of ortho boron‐incorporated coupled products. The synthetic utility of the boron incorporated product has been demonstrated by orthogonal transformation of both the alkyne and boronic ester functionalities.

Abstract
Smooth handoff in the relay: Vinyl boronates enable the direct addition of nucleophilic and electrophilic or nucleophilic and radical-generating carbon reagents across the double bond with retention of the valuable boronate group. The key to the success of this difficult twofold C-C bond-formation strategy is the initial relay of the nucleophilic addition to boron and the rearrangement of a 1,2-metalate rearrangement, shuttling it to the carbon atom.

Abstract
Coupling reactions between benzylamines and boronic esters have been investigated. ortho-Lithiated benzylamines react with boronic esters and a N-activator to afford ortho-substituted benzylic boronic esters with formal 1,1'-benzylidene insertion into the C-B bond. The reaction occurs by a SN2' elimination and 1,2-metalate rearrangement of the N-activated boronate complex to afford a dearomatized intermediate, which undergoes a Lewis-acid catalyzed 1,3-borotropic shift to afford the boronic ester products in high yield and with excellent enantiospecificity. The use of enantioenriched α-substituted benzylamines gave the corresponding secondary boronic esters with high ee.

Abstract
Using asymmetric catalysis to simultaneously form carbon–carbon bonds and generate single isomer products is strategically important. Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling is widely used in the academic and industrial sectors to synthesize drugs, agrochemicals and biologically active and advanced materials. However, widely applicable enantioselective Suzuki-Miyaura variations to provide 3D molecules remain elusive. Here we report a rhodium-catalysed asymmetric Suzuki-Miyaura reaction with important partners including aryls, vinyls, heteroaromatics and heterocycles. The method can be used to couple two heterocyclic species so the highly enantioenriched products have a wide array of cores. We show that pyridine boronic acids are unsuitable, but they can be halogen-modified at the 2-position to undergo reaction, and this halogen can then be removed or used to facilitate further reactions. The method is used to synthesize isoanabasine, preclamol, and niraparib—an anticancer agent in several clinical trials. We anticipate this method will be a useful tool in drug synthesis and discovery. Asymmetric Suzuki-Miyaura procedures often have difficulty incorporating heterocyclic reagents, despite the importance of these in the pharmaceutical industry. Here the authors report a rhodium catalysed cross-coupling that tolerates a wide variety of nucleophiles including a range of heterocycles.

Abstract
The widespread use of alkyl boronic acids and esters is frequently hampered by the challenges associated with their preparation. We describe a simple and practical method to rapidly access densely functionalized alkyl boronate esters from abundant carboxylic substituents. This broad-scope nickel-catalyzed reaction uses the same activating principle as amide bond formation to replace a carboxylic acid moiety with a boronate ester. Application to peptides allowed expedient preparations of α-amino boronic acids, often with high stereoselectivity, thereby facilitating synthesis of the alkyl boronic acid drugs Velcade and Ninlaro as well as a boronic acid version of the iconic antibiotic vancomycin. The reaction also enabled the discovery and extensive biological characterization of potent human neutrophil elastase inhibitors, which offer reversible covalent binding properties.

Abstract
A highly efficient kinetic resolution of racemic 2-substituted 1,2-dihydroquinolines via asymmetric Cu-catalyzed borylation has been realized for the first time. Under mild conditions, a variety of chiral 3-boryl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroquinolines containing two vicinal stereogenic centers as well as the recovered 2-substituted 1,2-dihydroquinolines were afforded after 30 minutes in high yields with up to 99% ee (dr > 99 : 1) and over 98% ee values, respectively, corresponding to kinetic selectivity factors of up to 569. Moreover, this protocol was successfully applied to the asymmetric synthesis of a selective estrogen receptor modulator.

Abstract

Highly
enantioselective rhodium-catalyzed hydroboration of allylic
phosphonates by pinacolborane affords chiral tertiary boronic esters.
The β-borylated phosphonates are readily converted to chiral
β- and γ-hydroxyphosphonates and aminophosphonates
and to phosphonates bearing a quaternary carbon stereocenter. The
utility of the latter is illustrated by the synthesis of (S)-(+)-bakuchiol methyl ether.

Abstract

Oxime-directed
catalytic asymmetric hydroboration is diverted to
catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation (CAH) upon the addition of a proton
source, such as MeOH, or by running the reaction under a hydrogen
atmosphere. A borane (e.g., pinacolborane) is required to promote
CAH. Tri- and tetrasubstituted alkenes, including the challenging
all-alkyl tetrasubstituted alkenes, undergo CAH with enantiomer ratios
(er) as high as 99:1. The mild reaction conditions, i.e., ambient
temperature, moderate reaction times, and the need for only a slight
excess of H2, contrast those used in most state-of-the-art
catalysts for related substrates.

Abstract
Diborylmethane can be homologated uni- and bidirectionally by using enantiomerically pure lithium-stabilized carbenoids to give 1,2- and 1,3-bis(boronic esters), respectively, in good yield and with excellent levels of enantio- and diastereoselectivity. The high sensitivity of the transformation to steric hindrance enables the exclusive operation of either manifold, effected through the judicious choice of the type of carbenoid, which can be a sparteine-ligated or a diamine-free lithiated benzoate/carbamate. The scope of the 1,2-bis(boronic esters) so generated is complementary to that encompassed by the asymmetric diboration of alkenes, in that primary-secondary and primary-tertiary 1,2-bis(boronic esters) can be prepared with equally high levels of selectivity and that functional groups, such as terminal alkynes and alkenes, are tolerated. Methods for forming C2-symmetric and non-symmetrical anti and syn 1,3-bis(boronic esters) are also described and represent a powerful route towards 1,3-functionalized synthetic intermediates.

Abstract
In the presence of trifluoromethylsulfonium reagents, boronate complexes derived from 2-lithio furan and non-racemic secondary and tertiary alkyl or aryl boronic esters undergo deborylative three-component coupling to give the corresponding 2,5-disubstituted furans with excellent levels of enantiospecificity. The process proceeds via the reaction of boronate complexes with a trifluoromethyl radical, which triggers 1,2-metallate rearrangement upon single-electron oxidation. Alternative electrophiles can also be used in place of trifluoromethylsulfonium reagents to effect similar three-component coupling reactions.
