Abstract
Perfluoroalkylation is important for late-stage modification of biologically active molecules. Herein, we report a protocol for visible-light-induced perfluoroalkylation reactions of aryl acrylic acids. These reactions, which use perfluoroalkyl iodides as radical precursors and inexpensive eosin Y as a photocatalyst, proceed in a decarboxylative manner. The easy accessibility of perfluoroalkyl iodides and the broad substrate scope, mild conditions, and metal-free catalyst make this protocol applicable for the transformation of inexpensive raw materials to high-value chemicals.

Abstract
In this study, a practical and straightforward synthesis of β-(E)-trifluoromethylstyrenes by ruthenium-catalyzed C-H bond activation was developed. The readily available and inexpensive 2-bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (BTP), a non-ozone depleting reagent, was used as a reservoir of 3,3,3-trifluoropropyne. With this approach, the monofunctionalization of a panel of heteroarenes was possible in a safe and scalable manner (23 examples, up to 87 % yield). Mechanistic investigations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were also conducted to get a better understanding of the mechanism of this transformation. These studies suggested that 1) a cyclometallated ruthenium complex enabled the transformation, 2) this complex exhibited high efficiency in this transformation compared to the commercially available [RuCl2 (p-cymene)]2 and 3) the mechanism proceeded through a bis-cyclometallated ruthenium intermediate for the carboruthenation step.

Abstract
Herein, we describe a method to produce (Z)-trifluoromethyl enol esters via the olefination and trifluoromethylation of carboxylic acids with TMSCF3. This synthetic method uses inexpensive and easy-to-handle TMSCF3. It employs a commercially available CuCl catalyst to transform a broad range of carboxylic acids into versatile (Z)-trifluoromethyl enol esters with good regio- and stereoselectivity. This protocol allows the concise synthesis of highly functionalized (Z)-trifluoromethyl enol esters directly from carboxylic acids.

Abstract
Syntheses of chemicals using renewable electricity and when generating high atom economies are considered green and sustainable processes. In the present state of affairs, electrochemical manufacturing of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals is not as common place as it could be and therefore, merits more attention. There is also a need to turn attention toward the electrochemical synthesis of valuable chemicals from recyclable greenhouse gases that can accelerate the process of circular economy. CO2 emissions are the major contributor to human-induced global warming. CO2 conversion into chemicals is a valuable application of its utilisation and will contribute to circular economy while maintaining environmental sustainability. Herein, we present an overview of electro-carboxylation, including mechanistic aspects, which forms carboxylic acids using molecular carbon dioxide. We also discuss atom economies of electrochemical fluorination, methoxylation and amide formation reactions.

Abstract
An efficient and general radical hydroamination of alkenes using Co(salen) as catalyst, N-fluorobenzenesulfonimide (NFSI) and its analogues as both nitrogen source and oxidant was successfully disclosed. A variety of alkenes, including aliphatic alkenes, styrenes, α, β-unsaturated esters, amides, acids, as well as enones, were all compatible to provide desired amination products. Mechanistic experiments suggest that the reaction underwent a metal-hydride-mediated hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) with alkene, followed by a pivotal catalyst controlled SN 2-like pathway between in situ generated organocobalt(IV) species and nitrogen-based nucleophiles. Moreover, by virtue of modified chiral cobalt(II)-salen catalyst, an unprecedented asymmetric version was also achieved with good to excellent level of enantiocontrol. This novel asymmetric radical C-N bond construction opens a new door for the challenging asymmetric radical hydrofunctionalization.

Abstract
Incorporation of fluorine into organic molecules is a well-established strategy in the design of advanced materials, agrochemicals, and pharmaceuticals. Among numerous modern synthetic approaches, functionalization of unsaturated bonds with simultaneous addition of trifluoromethyl group along with other substituents is currently one of the most attractive methods undergoing wide-ranging development. In this review article, we discuss the most significant contributions made in this area during the last decade (2012−2021). The reactions reviewed in this work include chloro-, bromo-, iodo-, fluoro- and cyano-trifluoromethylation of alkenes and alkynes.

Abstract
An efficient protocol for the synthesis of 5-aryl-6-(trifluoromethyl)-2,3-dihydropyrazolo[1,2-a]pyrazol-1(5H)-one derivatives through a copper-catalyzed [3+2]-cycloaddition of azomethine imines with 3,3,3-trifluoropropyne (generated in situ from dehydrobromination of 2-bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropene under base conditions) is developed. The advantages of this transformation are the broad substrate scope and the good functional group compatibility. The subsequent oxidation and nucleophilic substitution/aromatization provide a new approach to 4-trifluoromethylated pyrazol-1-yl propanoic acids.

Abstract
Decarboxylation strategy has been emerging as a powerful tool for the synthesis of fluorine-containing organic compounds that play important roles in various fields such as pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials science. Considerable progress in decarboxylation has been made over the past decade towards the construction of diverse valuable fluorinated fine chemicals for which the fluorinated part can be brought in two ways. The first way is described as the reaction of non-fluorinated carboxylic acids (and their derivatives) with fluorinating reagents, as well as fluorine-containing building blocks. The second way is dedicated to the exploration and the use of fluorine-containing carboxylic acids (and their derivatives) in decarboxylative transformations. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the development and applications of decarboxylative radical, nucleophilic and cross-coupling strategies in organofluorine chemistry.

Abstract
The cleavage of an unactivated aryl nitro group triggered by alkyl radicals enables a dearomative cyclization, affording diversified alkylated spiro[5.5]trienones in good yields. Using readily available compounds (toluene and analogues, alkanes, ethers, ketones, etc.) as alkylating reagents, various alkyls have been implanted into the spirocycles via C(sp3)-H and Ar-NO2 bond activation with high functional group tolerance. This protocol provides a distinct method for the activation of the aryl nitro group.

Abstract
Owing to their non-toxic, stable, inexpensive properties, carboxylic acids are considered as environmentally benign alternatives as coupling partners in various organic transformations. Electrochemical mediated decarboxylation of carboxylic acid has emerged as a new and efficient methodology for the construction of carbon-carbon or carbon-heteroatom bonds. Compared with transition-metal catalysis and photoredox catalysis, electro-organic decarboxylative transformations are considered as a green and sustainable protocol due to the absence of chemical oxidants and strong bases. Further, it exhibits good tolerance with various functional groups. In this Minireview, we summarize the recent advances and discoveries on the electrochemical decarboxylative transformations on C-C and C-heteroatoms bond formations.

Abstract
A novel visible-light-induced radical tandem trifluoromethylation/cyclization of unactivated alkenes with sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates (Rf = CF3, C3F7, C4F9, C6F13, C8F17) under air atmosphere has been developed. A range of quinazolinones containing unactivated alkene moiety and sodium perfluoroalkanesulfinates were compatible with this transformation, leading to a variety of perfluoroalkyl-substituted quinazoline alkaloids. Remarkably, the experiment can be carried out without any metal catalyst, strong oxidant, or external photosensitizer.

Abstract
Modifying the electronic properties of olefins is the quintessential approach to tuning alkene reactivity. In this context, the exploration of trifluoromethyl groups as divergent electronic modifiers has not been considered. In this work, we describe a copper-mediated 1,2-(bis)trifluoromethylation of acetylenes to create E-hexafluorobutenes (E-HFBs) under blue light in a single step. The reaction proceeds with high yield and E/Z selectivity. Since the alkyne captures two trifluoromethyl groups from each molecule of bpyCu(CF3 )3 , mechanistic studies were conducted to illuminate the role of the reactants. Interestingly, E-HFBs exhibit remarkable stability to standard olefin functionalization reactions in spite of the pendant trifluoromethyl groups. This finding has significant implications for medicine, agroscience, and materials.

Abstract
Nitro hydrocarbons as inexpensive, easily available, and relatively stable organic intermediates have aroused great attention in various functional group transformations over the past several decades. The electron-withdrawing action of the nitro group can act as a transient leaving group to efficiently transform into the other important functionalities. Nitro compounds are easily prepared through simple synthetic reactions from simple and facile starting substrates and provide an exciting opportunity for the synthesis of various valuable products. This account will review recent progress in the denitrative coupling reaction of nitroalkanes, nitroolefins, and nitroarenes under transition metalcatalyzed, transition metal-free, or visible light induced conditions.

Abstract
The silver-catalyzed decarboxylative trifluoromethylation of aliphatic carboxylic acids is described. With AgNO3 as the catalyst and K2S2O8 as the oxidant, the reactions of aliphatic carboxylic acids with (bpy)Cu(CF3)3 (bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine) and ZnMe2 in aqueous acetonitrile at 40 °C afford the corresponding decarboxylative trifluoromethylation products in good yield. The protocol is applicable to various primary and secondary alkyl carboxylic acids and exhibits wide functional group compatibility. Mechanistic studies reveal the intermediacy of -Cu(CF3)3Me, which undergoes reductive elimination and subsequent oxidation to give Cu(CF3)2 as the active species responsible for the trifluoromethylation of alkyl radicals.
