Abstract
Objective The aim was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis for assessing the effectiveness and safety of dietary polyphenol curcumin supplement on metabolic, inflammatory, and oxidative stress indices in patients with metabolic syndrome (MetS). Methods A comprehensive search for clinical trials was conducted in the following scientific databases: PubMed, SCOPUS, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Web of Science, and China Biological Medicine. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the efficacy and safety of curcumin supplement for MetS were identified. A random-effects meta-analysis was performed using inverse variance, and efficacy was expressed as mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). The metabolic syndrome markers that were evaluated in the present study included waist circumference (WC), fasting blood sugar (FBS), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a), interleukin 6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), ultrasensitive c-reactive protein (hsCRP), and malondialdehyde (MDA). By employing the Cochrane tool, RCTs were assessed for bias risk. Results A total of 785 participants from 13 RCTs were included, with intervention durations ranging from 4 to 12 weeks. Compared with the control group, the curcumin group had positive effects on WC (MD = -2.16, 95% CI: -3.78 to -0.54, p = 0.009, seven studies), FBS (MD = -8.6, 95% CI: -15.45 to -1.75, p = 0.01, nine studies), DBP (MD = -2.8, 95% CI: -4.53 to - 1.06, p = 0.002, five studies), HDL-C (MD = 4.98, 95% CI: 2.58 to 7.38, p < 0.0001, eight studies), TNF-a (MD = -12.97, 95% CI: -18.37 to -7.57, p < 0.00001, two studies), CRP (MD = - 1.24, 95% CI: -1.71 to -0.77, p < 0.00001, two studies), and MDA (MD = -2.35, 95% CI: -4.47 to -0.24, p = 0.03, three studies). These improvements were statistically significant. Meanwhile, there was no significant improvement in SBP (MD = -4.82, 95% CI: -9.98 to 0.35, p = 0.07, six studies), TG (MD = 1.28, 95% CI: -3.75 to 6.30, p = 0.62, eight studies), IL-6 (MD = -1.5, 95% CI: -3.97 to 0.97, p = 0.23, two studies), or hsCRP (MD = -1.10, 95% CI: -4.35 to 2.16, p < 0.51, two studies). FBS, SBP, HDL-C, IL-6, CRP, hsCRP, and MDA had a relatively high heterogeneity. Conclusion Curcumin exhibited promising potential in enhancing markers associated with metabolic syndrome, including inflammation. However, additional studies are required to confirm such findings since the included evidence is limited and has a relatively high heterogeneity. Abstract
In the quest to develop nanometrically defined catalytic systems for applications in the catalytic valorization of agri-food wastes, small Ni-based nanoparticles supported on inorganic solid supports have been prepared by decomposition of organometallic precursors in refluxing ethanol under H2 atmosphere, in the presence of supports exhibiting insulating or semi-conductor properties, such as MgAl2O4 and TiO2, respectively. The efficiency of the as-prepared Ni-based nanocomposites has been evaluated towards the hydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids under solvent-free conditions, with high selectivity regarding the hydrogenation of C=C bonds. The influence of the support on the catalytic performance of the prepared Ni-based nanocomposites is particularly highlighted.

Abstract
Selective reduction strategies based on abundant-metal catalysts are very important in the production of chemicals. In this paper, a method for the electrochemical semihydrogenation and semideuteration of alkynes to form Z-alkenes was developed, using a simple nickel foam as catalyst and H3 O+ or D3 O+ as sources of hydrogen or deuterium. Good yields and excellent stereoselectivities (Z/E up to 20 : 1) were obtained under very mild reaction conditions. The reaction proceeded with terminal and nonterminal alkynes, and also with alkynes containing easily reducible functional groups, such as carbonyl groups, as well as aryl chlorides, bromides, and even iodides. The nickel-foam electrocatalyst could be recycled up to 14 times without any change in its catalytic properties.

Abstract
Metal nanoparticles have been deeply studied in the last few decades due to their attractive physical and chemical properties, finding a wide range of applications in several fields. Among them, well-defined nano-structures can combine the main advantages of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts. Especially, catalyzed multi-step processes for the production of added-value chemicals represent straightforward synthetic methodologies, including tandem and sequential reactions that avoid the purification of intermediate compounds. In particular, palladium- and copper-based nanocatalysts are often applied, becoming a current strategy in the sustainable synthesis of fine chemicals. The rational tailoring of nanosized materials involving both those immobilized on solid supports and liquid phases and their applications in organic synthesis are herein reviewed.

Abstract
Production of formate via CO2/bicarbonate hydrogenation using cheap metal-based heterogeneous catalysts is attractive. Herein, we report the organometallic synthesis of a foam-like Ni@Ni(OH)2 composite nanomaterial which exhibited remarkable air stability and over 2 times higher catalytic activity than commercial RANEY® Ni catalyst in formate synthesis. Formate generation was achieved with an optimal rate of 6.0 mmol gcat-1 h-1 at 100 °C, a significantly lower operation temperature compared to the 200-260 °C reported in the literature. Deep characterization evidenced that this nanomaterial was made of an amorphous Ni(OH)2 phase covering metallic Ni sites; a core-shell structure which is crucial for the stability of the catalyst. The adsorption of bicarbonates onto the Ni@Ni(OH)2 catalyst was found to be a kinetically relevant step in the reaction, and the Ni-Ni(OH)2 interface was found to be beneficial for both CO2 and H2 activation thanks to a cooperative effect. Our findings emphasize the underestimated potential of Ni-based catalysts in CO2 hydrogenation to formate, indicating a viable strategy to develop stable, cheap metal catalysts for greener catalytic applications.

Abstract
Twenty-one green solvents, including glycerol-derived ethers, and their eutectic mixtures with two renewable ammonium salts, were used for the straightforward synthesis, stabilization, and immobilization of palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs). The nature of the solvent allows tuning of the characteristics and properties of resulting catalytic systems in terms of particle size and morphology, stability, reactivity, and recoverability. Pd NPs immobilized in glycerol-based solvents were applied in the catalytic hydrogenation of alkenes, alkynes, and carbonyl compounds, as well as in the selective semihydrogenation of alkynes to alkenes. The optimal experimental parameters and the influence on the reactivity of the physicochemical properties of solvent, mainly the viscosity, were studied. Moreover, the most active and recoverable catalytic system, Pd NPs/N00Cl-100, was fully characterized both in the liquid phase and in the solid state, and its deactivation upon recovery was analyzed.

Abstract
N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are an important class of reactive organic molecules used as ligands, organocatalysts, and σ-donors in a variety of electroneutral ylide or betaine adducts with main-group compounds. An emerging class of betaine adducts made from the reaction of NHCs with carbodiimides (CDIs) form zwitterionic amidinate-like structures with tunable properties based on the highly modular NHC and CDI scaffolds. The adduct stability is controlled by the substituents on the CDI nitrogens, while the NHC substituents greatly affect the configuration of the adduct in the solid state. This Perspective is intended as a primer to these adducts, touching on their history, synthesis, characterization, and general properties. Despite the infancy of the field, NHC-CDI adducts have been applied as amidinate-type ligands for transition metals and nanoparticles, as junctions in zwitterionic polymers, and to stabilize distonic radical cations. These applications and potential future directions are discussed.

Abstract
The recently reported chemoselective reduction of phosphine oxides with 1,3-diphenyldisiloxane (DPDS) has opened up the possibility of additive-free phosphine oxide reductions in catalytic systems. Herein we disclose the use of this new reducing agent as an enabler of phosphorus redox recycling in Wittig, Staudinger, and alcohol substitution reactions. DPDS was successfully utilized in ambient-temperature additive-free redox recycling variants of the Wittig olefination, Appel halogenation, and Staudinger reduction. Triphenylphosphine-promoted catalytic recycling reactions were also facilitated by DPDS. Additive-free triphenylphosphine-promoted catalytic Staudinger reductions could even be performed at ambient temperature due to the rapid nature of phosphinimine reduction, for which we characterized kinetic and thermodynamic parameters. These results demonstrate the utility of DPDS as an excellent reducing agent for the development of phosphorus redox recycling reactions.

Abstract
We report a Rh-catalyzed hydroaminomethylation reaction of terminal alkenes in glycerol that proceeds efficiently under mild conditions to produce the corresponding amines in relatively high selectivity towards linear amines, moderate to excellent yields by using a low catalyst loading (1 mol % [Rh], 2 mol % phosphine) and relative low pressure (H2 /CO, 1:1, total pressure 10 bar). This work sheds light on the importance of glycerol in enabling enamine reduction via hydrogen transfer. Moreover, evidence for the crucial role of Rh as chemoselective catalyst in the condensation step has been obtained for the first time in the frame of the hydroaminomethylation reaction by precluding deleterious aldol condensation reactions. The hydroaminomethylation proceeds under a molecular regime; the outcome of catalytically active species into metal-based nanoparticles renders the catalytic system inactive.

Abstract
The hydrogenation of olefins, styrenes, enoates, imines, and sterically hindered tri-substituted olefins was accomplished using the pre-catalyst dilithiumbis(cycloocta-1,5-diene)nickelate(-II) (1). The mild conditions tolerate hydroxyl, halide, ester, and lactone functionalities. Mechanistic studies, including reaction progress analyses, poisoning experiments, and multinuclear NMR monitoring, indicate that a heterotopic (nickel nanoparticle) catalyst is in operation.

Abstract
NiGa is a catalyst for the semihydrogenation of alkynes. Here we show the influence of different dispersion times before microwave-induced decomposition of the precursors on the phase purity, as well as the influence of the time of microwave-induced decomposition on the crystallinity of the NiGa nanoparticles. Microwave-induced co-decomposition of all-hydrocarbon precursors [Ni(COD)2] (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) and GaCp* (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) in the ionic liquid [BMIm][NTf2] selectively yields small intermetallic Ni/Ga nanocrystals of 5 ± 1 nm as derived from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-angle annular dark-field scanning transmission electron microscopy (HAADF-STEM) and supported by energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX), selected-area energy diffraction (SAED) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). NiGa@[BMIm][NTf2] catalyze the semihydrogenation of 4-octyne to 4-octene with 100% selectivity towards (E)-4-octene over five runs, but with poor conversion values. IL-free, precipitated NiGa nanoparticles achieve conversion values of over 90% and selectivity of 100% towards alkene over three runs.
