Abstract
OBJECTIVE To report the prevalence and severity of nonpelvic symptoms for patients with venous-origin chronic pelvic pain (VO-CPP) and to describe outcomes after pelvic vein stenting and embolization. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed outcomes of 45 women with VO-CPP who underwent treatment with iliac vein stenting and/or embolization. Patients completed symptom-severity questionnaires before and after treatment that assessed for pelvic pain, and multiple other symptoms, including brain fog, anxiety, depression, musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, migraines and more. RESULTS Patient age ranged from 18 to 65 years. The prevalence of common symptoms was as follows: migraines, 69%; brain fog, 76%; anxiety attacks, 58%; excess sweating, 64%; hip pain, 73%; diarrhea, 62%; constipation, 76%; and abdominal bloating, 82%. After treatment, most symptom scores improved by more than 50%; exceptions were excessive sweating (41% improvement) and bloating (47% improvement). Prevalence of individual symptoms that bundle into POTS ranged from 29% to 76%, where symptom improvement ranged from 23% to 59% after treatment. Overlapping individual symptoms characteristic of fibromyalgia and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) were present in 64% to 82% of patients and all improved by 49% to 63% after treatment. CONCLUSIONS Pelvic venous flow abnormality is linked causally to a spectrum of interrelated symptoms, of which many can be bundled into named syndromes of unknown cause. With catheter- based treatment of pelvic venous pooling, nonpelvic symptom and syndrome scores improved.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Generalized joint hypermobility as a characteristic feature of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) is among the factors contributing to temporomandibular disorders (TMD). OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prevalence of TMD symptoms and their risk factors among women born in Sweden or Finland who were 27- to 78-year-olds with diagnosed hypermobile EDS (hEDS). METHODS A cohort of women with confirmed hEDS (n = 185) was constructed from the members of the National EDS Associations in both countries. Based on questionnaire data, frequency of independent variables in terms of socio-demographic, general health and oral health-related factors, comorbid symptoms and psychological distress for self-reported TMD symptoms as the dependent variables, were calculated first. Prevalence ratios (PR) and their 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were estimated for the association between independent and dependent variables. RESULTS Nearly all participants reported TMD symptoms (98%) with TMD pain (95%), TMJ clicking (90%) and jaw fatigue (80%) as the most common symptoms and TMJ crepitation (63%) and luxation (44%) as the least common symptoms. Risk factors for TMD among 27- to 50-year-olds participants were Finland as a country of birth, living alone and self-reported worst pain in the body (not the joints). The respective risk factors among the 51- to 78-year-olds were Finland as a country of birth, family history of EDS, tinnitus and regularly taking contraceptives. CONCLUSIONS Among adult women with confirmed hEDS, socio-demographic and health-related factors and comorbid symptoms were significantly associated with TMD but with differences regarding age group. Therefore, management of TMD requires a multidisciplinary approach among the affected.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study aims to analyze to what extent patients with Marfan syndrome (MFS) are affected by temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and its impact on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). To collect data, an online questionnaire was created to recruit participants from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland through social media and support groups. The questionnaire consists of free-text questions, the German versions of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-G14), the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), and the Graded Chronic Pain Status (GCPS). RESULTS A total of 76 participants with diagnosed MFS were included. Of these, 65.8% showed TMD symptoms, the most common being pain or stiffness of the masticatory muscles in the jaw angle (50.0%). Only 14.5% of the participants were already diagnosed with TMD. Of the participants with an increased likelihood of a depression disorder, 76.9% showed TMD symptoms. Of those with a critical score for an anxiety disorder, 90.9% showed TMD symptoms. 73.3% of participants with TMD symptoms reached the critical score for a stress disorder. TMD symptoms were associated with a higher risk for chronic pain. In the median, participants with TMD showed statistically notably higher OHIP-G14 scores than participants without TMD (11.5 [IQR 17] vs. 1 [IQR 3] points, p ≤ 0.001). CONCLUSION TMD symptoms had a noticeable impact on OHRQoL in patients with MFS, i.e., chronic pain and psychological impairment. TMD seems underdiagnosed, and more research is needed to prevent the associated chronification of pain and psychological burden to improve the OHRQoL.

Abstract
This narrative review aims to demonstrate and summarize the complex relationship between Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and temporomandibular disorders (TMD) by reviewing the results of observational studies and case reports. EDS are a set of hereditary connective tissue disorders, where generalized joint hypermobility (GJH), especially in the hypermobile subtype (hEDS), is a key symptom. Mutations have been identified in genes that impact the production or assembly of collagen for all subtypes except hEDS. While the correlation between GJH and TMD has been analysed in various studies, fewer studies have examined TMD in patients with EDS, with most showing an increased prevalence of TMD. In case-control studies, an elevated prevalence of myalgia, arthralgia and disc-related disorders was found in individuals with EDS. Various therapeutic interventions have been reported within the literature in the form of case reports and observational studies, but there are no long-term clinical trials with results on the efficacy of different therapeutic approaches to date. This review demonstrates the high prevalence of different TMDs in different subtypes of EDS, but also shows that little is known about the success of treatment thus far. Further clinical research is necessary to provide adequate guidance on targeted treatment.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the received TMD treatment modalities and the perceived outcome among the frequent types of EDS. A digital questionnaire was sent to the member of the National Swedish EDS Association during January-March 2022. The subsamples of hypermobile and classical EDS were constructed. Almost 90% reported TMD symptoms. Bite splint therapy, counselling, jaw training and occlusal adjustment were reported as the most common treatments with no statistically significant difference in terms of good effect between the two subsamples. Hypermobile and classical EDS might consider as an entity with regards to TMD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Ehlers-Danlos syndromes are a group of clinically and genetically heterogeneous hereditary diseases affecting the connective tissue. They are characterized by hypermobility of the joints, hyperextensible skin and friable tissue. According to current classification, 13 subtypes can be distinguished, of which the hypermobile and the classical subtype are the most prevalent. This study aimed to evaluate patients with classical (cEDS) and hypermobile (hEDS) Ehlers-Danlos syndrome regarding temporomandibular disorder (TMD), chronic pain, and psychological distress. METHODS Support groups from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland were contacted, and social media were used to recruit participants. Free text questions, the German version of the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS), and the German version of the Graded Chronic Pain Status (GCPS) were used. RESULTS 259 participants were included (230 hEDS/29 cEDS). At least 49.2% of the participants had painful or restricted jaw movements, and at least 84.9% had pain in the masticatory muscles, with 46.3% already having a diagnosed TMD. Multivariate analysis showed a significant correlation between TMJ involvement and chronic pain with a 2.5-fold higher risk of chronic pain with a diagnosed TMD. 22.8% of participants had a critical score for depression, 53.3% had a critical score for anxiety, and 34.0% had a critical score for stress. CONCLUSION There is a high prevalence of TMD problems and chronic pain in patients with cEDS and hEDS. The lack of knowledge about these problems can create psychological distress. More research is needed to provide adequate treatment for patients with EDS.

Abstract
Patients who are medically compromised may be at an increased risk of complications and treatment errors following periodontal therapy. A review of the evidence on the topic is presented, in relation to the type of complication reported, of periodontal treatment, and of patients' medical status. Further, a framework for risk assessment and appropriate treatment modifications is introduced, with the aim of facilitating the management of patients with existing comorbidities and reducing the incidence of treatment complications.

Abstract
This study assessed differences in the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) between subtypes of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). For statistical analysis, participants were divided according to their subtype: classical EDS (cEDS), hypermobile EDS (hEDS), and vascular EDS (vEDS). All other subtypes were descriptively analyzed. Free-text questions and the German short form of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) were used. Finally, 295 questionnaires were included, representing 10 different EDS subtypes. The mean OHIP score of all participants was 19.6 points (standard derivation (SD) ± 12.3). The most predominant subtypes showed similar reduced OHRQoL, with 18.0 (cEDS, ±12.9), 19.5 (hEDS, ±12.0), and 15.2 (vEDS, ±11.6) OHIP points. For all other subtypes, the OHIP values varied. Participants waited an average of 21.8 years (±12.8) for their diagnosis. However, within the predominant subtypes, vEDS patients waited a noticeably shorter period of 13.3 years (±13.0; p = 0.004) compared to participants with hEDS. Additionally, this study showed no difference in OHRQoL for the predominant subtypes regardless of whether a participant was a self-help group member (18.8, ±12.0) or not (19.4, ±12.1; p = 0.327).

Abstract
Background Ehlers‐Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a hereditary disorder that affects the connective tissue and collagen structures in the body characterised by joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility and tissue fragility. Objective The aim was to investigate temporomandibular disorders (TMD), bite force, teeth in occlusal contact and osseous changes of the temporomandibular joints (TMJs) in 26 patients with hypermobile EDS (hEDS), differentiated by a genetic test, compared to 39 healthy controls. Methods Clinical examination according to Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD), radiological examinations of the TMJs by cone‐beam‐computed tomographic (CBCT) scans, registration of bite force and teeth in occlusal contact was performed. Statistical analyses included Fisher's Exact Test, multiple logistic and linear regression models adjusted for age, gender and Body Mass Index (BMI). Results Single symptoms and signs of TMD occurred significantly more often in hEDS (p = .002; p = .001; p = .003; p = <.0001; p = .012) and maximum mouth opening was significantly smaller in hEDS compared to controls (p = <.0001). The DC/TMD diagnosis myalgia, myofascial pain with referral, arthralgia, headache attributed to TMD, disc displacement disorders and degenerative joint disease occurred significantly more often in hEDS compared to controls (p = .000; p = .008; p = .003; p = .000; p = <.0001; p = .010, respectively). No significant differences were found in bite force and in teeth in occlusal contact between the groups (p > .05). On CBCT of the TMJs, subcortical sclerosis occurred significantly more often in hEDS compared to controls (p = .005). Conclusion Symptoms and signs of TMD and osseous changes of the TMJs occurred significantly more often in hEDS. Bite force and teeth in occlusal contact were comparable to controls.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Hypermobile joints display a range of movement that is considered excessive, taking into consideration the age, gender and ethnic background of the individual. Joint hypermobility may present in a single joint, a few joints or in multiple joints and may be congenital or acquired with training, disease or injury. Hypermobile joints may be asymptomatic or may be associated with pain, fatigue, multisystemic complaints and significant disability. Furthermore, joint hypermobility may be a sign of an underlying hereditary disorder of connective tissue. PURPOSE This masterclass aims to provides a state-of-the-art review of the aetiology, epidemiology, clinical presentation, assessment and management of joint hypermobility and hypermobility related disorders using an evidence based and biopsychosocial approach. The new framework for classifying the spectrum of joint hypermobility disorders along with new diagnostic criteria for the hypermobile Ehlers Danlos syndrome, published by an international consortium of clinical experts and researchers in 2017 is integrated into the paper. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE People with joint hypermobility related disorders present to healthcare professionals with a wide range of symptoms which extend beyond the musculoskeletal system. Early recognition and treatment are key to effective management. A biopsychosocial and patient empowerment approach to functional restoration is recommended.

Abstract
A small number of case reports and observational studies describe chronic nasal congestion, upper airway obstruction, dysphonia, vocal cord abnormalities, and swallowing abnormalities in the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes. Little is known of the causes and therefore treatments of these, yet they are not uncommon findings in persons with hypermobility-related conditions presenting in the healthcare setting. We have a specialist multidisciplinary ear, nose, and throat and speech therapy practice with accumulating observational and empirical experience of managing these conditions, which include altered voice, choking, high dysphagia and anterior and deep neck pains. Here, we present our experience, some illustrative cases, and suggestions for future work in this evolving field.

Abstract
Ehlers‐Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of inherited connective tissue disorders. Patients with EDS exhibit distinct pathologies of the teeth and the oral cavity. Here, we summarize the current knowledge in the various EDS types, in particular regarding severe changes in oral health‐related quality of life, the differential emergence of periodontitis, characteristic yet highly cumbersome dental manifestations, apparent anomalies of oral soft tissues, and relevant issues related to dental implantology. Resolution of remaining open questions will primarily rely on the standardization of diagnostic criteria. Clinical centers that specialize on this rare pathology need to apply congruent approaches for exact characterization of clinical features in conjunction with genetic validation that should be reached without exception in all patients and relevant family members.

Abstract
Background Classical Ehlers‐Danlos syndrome (cEDS) is a heterogeneous connective tissue disorder that mainly results from the germline mutation of COL5A1 and COL5A2. The majority of the COL5A2 mutations reported to date represent structural mutations, including missense or in‐frame exon‐skipping splice mutations. The only reported synonymous mutation was expected to affect on splicing of exon 29 by prediction programs which should be further confirmed. Methods Whole exome sequencing was performed to identify the genetic variants of a Chinese boy who was characterized by skin hyperextensibility, abnormal scarring, hypermobile joints and scoliosis. Sanger sequencing was used to validate the variants in his parents. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT‐PCR) was performed to analyze the functional effects of the variant. Results A de novo heterozygous synonymous variant (NM_000393.5:c.1977 G>A) of COL5A2 gene was identified in the patient. The results of RT‐PCR revealed that the synonymous variant led to skipping of exon 29 in the RNA transcript. Conclusions Our study supplies further supporting evidence that the synonymous COL5A2 mutation c.1977 G>A can cause skipping of exon 29 in the RNA transcript, thus resulting in the production of mutant α2(V)‐chains and clinical phenotype of cEDS. This result highlights the need to include splicing‐altering synonymous mutations into the screening for cEDS.

Abstract
The Beighton Score (BS) is a set of manoeuvres in a nine-point scoring system, used as the standard method of assessment for Generalised Joint Hypermobility (GJH). It was originally developed as an epidemiological tool used in screening large populations for GJH, but later adopted as a clinical tool for diagnostic purposes. Its ability to truly reflect GJH remains controversial, as joints within the scoring system are predominantly of the upper limb and disregard many of the major joints, preventing a direct identification of GJH. Furthermore, a consistent finding in the literature whereby the BS failed to identify hypermobility in joints outside the scoring system suggests its use as an indirect indicator of GJH is also not viable. As such, the collective findings of this review demonstrate a need for a change in clinical thinking. The BS should not be used as the principle tool to differentiate between localised and generalised hypermobility, nor used alone to exclude the presence of GJH. Greater emphasis should be placed on a clinician’s judgement to identify or exclude GJH, according to its full definition.

Abstract
The Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of heritable, connective tissue disorders characterized by joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility, and tissue fragility. There is phenotypic and genetic variation among the 13 subtypes. The initial genetic findings on EDS were related to alterations in fibrillar collagen, but the elucidation of the molecular basis of many of the subtypes revealed several genes not involved in collagen biosynthesis or structure. However, the genetic basis of the hypermobile type of EDS (hEDS) is still unknown. hEDS is the most common type of EDS and involves generalized joint hypermobility, musculoskeletal manifestations, and mild skin involvement along with the presence of several comorbid conditions. Variability in the spectrum and severity of symptoms and progression of patient phenotype likely depend on age, gender, lifestyle, and expression domains of the EDS genes during development and postnatal life. In this review, we summarize the current molecular, genetic, epidemiologic, and pathogenetic findings related to EDS with a focus on the hypermobile type.

Abstract
It is a well-known fact that people with Ehlers–Danlos syndromes (EDS) report a worse oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) than the general population. The aim of this study was to examine whether there is a correlation between the subjective OHRQoL and the objectively measured oral health in people with EDS. To determine the subjective OHRQoL, the German version of the 14-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) questionnaire was used. Furthermore, all participants in the study were clinically examined, and the measured parameters were recorded using the Physical Oral Health Index (PhOX). Altogether, records of 46 participants were collected. The median (interquartile range (IQR)) of the OHIP-14 was 17 (23) points and the median of the PhOX was 73 (16) points. However, a statistically significant correlation could not be demonstrated (r = −0.240, p = 0.108). In the observed cohort, for participants who reported having pain often or very often, the OHIP score (median = 24, IQR = 18, p < 0.01) was higher than the score of the group given by participants who never or intermittently experienced pain (median = 8, IQR = 18). In conclusion, patients with EDS showed a reduced OHRQoL, although it was not possible to observe an association between the subjective OHRQoL and the objective oral health. However, participants who often or very often suffer from pain in their tooth, mouth, and jaw areas showed a reduced OHRQoL.

Abstract
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a multifaceted debilitating disease. Affected patients are at risk for complications such as joint hypermobility and cardiac disease, but the prevalence, course, and management of these conditions are not well understood. The objective of this retrospective cohort study was to investigate the demographic characteristics and systemic manifestations in EDS. We performed a retrospective analysis of 98 EDS patients seen in a physical medicine and rehabilitation clinic between January 2015 and April 2019. Charts were reviewed for demographic information, subtype of EDS, characteristics of musculoskeletal pain, and presence of certain systemic comorbid diagnoses: autonomic dysfunction, headaches/migraines, gastrointestinal conditions, cardiovascular anomalies, mast cell activation syndrome, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Of 98 patients, 75 were diagnosed with EDS-hypermobile type (EDS-HT); 94 patients were women, and the mean age was 36.7 years. On average, each patient reported involvement of 5.4 joints, with the shoulder, knee, and lumbar spine as the most common. The average number of comorbid systemic conditions was 2.8, of which autonomic dysfunction was the most common. This study aims to provide a better understanding of this disease to promote earlier and more accurate diagnoses to guide treatment and prevent complications.

Abstract
Many genodermatoses exhibit abnormal teeth findings. Studies examining these entities are scarce and narrow in their scope. This paper reviews the evolution, development, and structure of the tooth and provides a summary of genodermatoses with aberrant dental findings. The latter are classified according to the abnormal dental findings: periodontal disease, anodontia/oligodontia/hypodontia, polydontia, enamel hypoplasia, natal teeth, dental pits, and others. Finally, we provide an algorithm that dermatologists and dentists can follow to better recognize genodermatoses with dental involvement.

Abstract
Introduction:Ehlers–Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of rare inherited connective tissue disorders that affect the synthesis and structure of collagen in a ubiquitous manner. The clinical presentation can vary according to the associated genetic mutation. The 2017 international classification of EDS describes 13 types of EDS.Observation: The first part of this paper describes the surgical-orthodontic treatment for two sisters affected by a common and familial form of EDS, with a follow-up period of 8 years. The main symptoms were agenesis, impacted teeth, and delayed eruptions.Discussion: The second part proposes a review of oro-dental manifestations and discusses therapeutic approaches for patients with EDS.Conclusion: EDS can affect the oro-dental region with numerous consequences. Recognition of clinical symptoms and radiological signs is essential to provide appropriate dental care. Moreover, complete clinical and radiological assessment can allow early diagnosis of EDS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a rare connective tissue disorder whose oral manifestations and dental phenotypes have not been well-characterized. The aim of this study was to explore the influence of oral manifestations on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in LDS patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS LDS subjects were assessed by the craniofacial team at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center Dental Clinic between June 2015 and January 2018. Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) questionnaire, oral health self-care behavior questionnaire and a comprehensive dental examination were completed for each subject. OHRQoL was assessed using the OHIP-14 questionnaire with higher scores corresponding to worse OHRQoL. Regression models were used to determine the relationship between each oral manifestation and the OHIP-14 scores using a level of significance of p ≤ 0.05. RESULTS A total of 33 LDS subjects (51.5% female) aged 3-57 years (19.6 ± 15.1 years) were included in the study. The OHIP-14 scores (n = 33) were significantly higher in LDS subjects (6.30 [SD 6.37]) when compared to unaffected family member subjects (1.50 [SD 2.28], p < 0.01), and higher than the previously reported scores of the general U.S. population (2.81 [SD 0.12]). Regarding oral health self-care behavior (n = 32), the majority of LDS subjects reported receiving regular dental care (81%) and maintaining good-to-excellent daily oral hygiene (75%). Using a crude regression model, worse OHRQoL was found to be associated with dental hypersensitivity (β = 5.24; p < 0.05), temporomandibular joints (TMJ) abnormalities (β = 5.92; p < 0.01), self-reported poor-to-fair oral health status (β = 6.77; p < 0.01), and cumulation of four or more oral manifestations (β = 7.23; p < 0.001). Finally, using a parsimonious model, self-reported poor-to-fair oral health status (β = 5.87; p < 0.01) and TMJ abnormalities (β = 4.95; p < 0.01) remained significant. CONCLUSIONS The dental hypersensitivity, TMJ abnormalities, self-reported poor-to-fair oral health status and cumulation of four-or-more oral manifestations had significant influence on worse OHRQoL. Specific dental treatment guidelines are necessary to ensure optimal quality of life in patients diagnosed with LDS.

Abstract
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) and Marfan syndrome (MFS) are characterised by hypermobility of joints and cardiovascular morbidity, and typical orofacial signs and symptoms are associated with both. Basic knowledge of these should prevent late-stage diagnosis and enable adequate management. This case series comprises all EDS and MFS patients who consulted the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University Hospitals Leuven between 2005 and 2017. Thirty patients had EDS or MFS, and in seven the diagnosis was made based on temporomandibular dysfunction or craniofacial dysmorphism. Non-facial symptoms led to diagnosis in the remaining patients. Twenty-five interventions were followed by two infections and one haemorrhage. One patient developed trismus. No major complications were reported. The complications we observed did not seem to differ from those often seen in patients who did not have EDS or MFS, possibly as a result of our strictly applied precautions and postoperative instructions. However, our study of relevant publications shows that patients with EDS and MFS are a vulnerable group.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a hereditary disorder that affects the connective tissue and collagen structures in the body characterised by joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility and tissue fragility. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to investigate the oro-dental characteristics including measurements of tooth size of 26 patients with hypermobile EDS (hEDS), differentiated by a genetic test, compared to 39 healthy controls. METHODS Interview, clinical and radiological examination on panoramic radiograph and cone-beam computed tomographic (CBCT) scan were performed. Statistical analyses included Fisher's exact test, paired t test and multiple logistic and linear models adjusted for age and gender. RESULTS The experience of xerostomia (P = 0.039), local anaesthetic insufficiency (P < 0.001) and tooth extraction complications (P < 0.003) were significantly higher in hEDS compared to controls. The debris index was significantly higher in hEDS (P < 0.001), and the distance between the cement-enamel junction (CEJ) and the bone level on the upper left first incisor and molar and the lower right first molar was significantly larger in hEDS compared to controls (P = 0.021, P = 0.024, P = 0.021, respectively). The crown heights of the upper and lower first incisors were significantly smaller (P = 0.001, P = 0.003, P = 0.002, P < 0.001, respectively) in hEDS compared to controls. When adjusting for debris index, only the distance between CEJ and the marginal bone level on the upper left and lower right molar was associated with hEDS. CONCLUSION The results indicate that xerostomia, resistance to local anaesthesia, tooth extraction complications, poor oral hygiene, larger distance between CEJ and marginal bone level and small crown heights can be found in patients with hEDS.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine whether there is similarity between tetradecyl sulfate and polidocanol in stabilising a joint from dislocating in patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). METHOD A retrospective analysis of patients with EDS in a sole-practice clinic in New Zealand. Patients must have had the diagnosis of EDS, had easily dislocatable joints, had treatment and at least 3 months' follow-up. 0.11% tetradecyl sulfate solution, or 0.25% polidocanol solution, was injected to ligament attachments (enthesis) on the side of the joints where they dislocated. Patients were deemed successfully treated if their affected joints were no longer dislocated over a minimum of 3 months' follow-up (out to 3 years). RESULTS Of 250 patients at the time of the study, 46 fitted the criteria. There were 37 treated with tetradecyl sulfate and nine with polidocanol. For the tetradecyl group there were a total of 305 injections around 97 joints: mean 3.1, range 1-22, median 2. For the polidocanol group there were 36 injections around 19 joints: mean 1.9, range 1-8, median 2. The difference of means between group 1 (tetradecyl) and group 2 (polidocanol) is 1.2, CIs 0.34 to 2.98. All patients had no further dislocations of treated joints unless they had a major new injury (two patients). CONCLUSION There was no difference between the two groups for stabilising joints from dislocating. These two agents appear promising for treating patients with recurrent joint dislocations in the setting of EDS. Prospective multicentre randomised controlled trials are needed to confirm these data.

Abstract
Objective To report the effort of the European Reference Network for Rare and Complex CONnective tissue and musculoskeletal diseases NETwork working group on Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and related disorders to assess current available clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) specifically addressed to EDS, in order to identify potential clinician and patient unmet needs. Methods Systematic literature search in PUBMED and EMBASE based on controlled terms (MeSH and Emtree) and keywords of the disease and publication type (CPGs). All the published articles were revised in order to identify existing CPGs on diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of EDS. Results Literature revision detected the absence of papers reporting good quality CPGs to optimise EDS patient care. The current evidence-based literature regarding clinical guidelines for the EDS was limited in size and quality, and there is insufficient research exploring the clinical features and interventions, and clinical decision-making are currently based on theoretical and limited research evidences. Conclusions Many clinician and patient unmet needs have been identified.

Abstract
Objective The objective of this study is to recognize representative cranio-cervico-mandibular features of patients with Ehler-Danlos syndrome and associated temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), to assess a targeted and integrated treatment plan. Materials and Methods After a diagnosis of disease, 38 individiuals with Ehler-Danlos syndrome and temporomandibular symptomatology referred were evaluated. Gnathological evaluation, according to the Diagnostic Criteria for TMDs, and radiographic imaging was performed. In addition, digital evaluation of occlusal and muscular balance, using surface electromyography of jaw muscles, was conducted. Statistical software for data analysis - STATA (StataCorp, College station, Texas, USA) - was used. Results Most common temporomandibular dysfunctions were arthralgia, myalgia, disc displacement with reduction and subluxation. Headache and neck pain were the most frequent comorbidities. Somatization, depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive behavior were the most recurrent psychological disorders. Electromyographic analysis showed out of normal range data. Conclusion Early diagnosis and interception are requested to avoid injuries and repeated traumatism. Multidisciplinary treatments are available to approach all the aspects of the syndrome.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Purpose: to verify the occurrence of posterior or submucosal lingual frenulum and evaluate the efficiency of a special maneuver for its visual inspection. Methods: an experimental study including 1,715 healthy infants, in which prematurity, perinatal complications, craniofacial anomalies neurological disorders, and visible genetic syndromes were the exclusion criteria. A clinical examination was performed by means of a maneuver that consisted in rising the lateral margins of the tongue to visualize the anatomical characteristics of the lingual frenulum. In some of the infants, a special maneuver was performed to assist visualization of posterior lingual frenulum, since its visualization was not possible. The maneuver consisted in two simultaneous actions: elevating and pushing the tongue back. Results: 558 infants (32.54%), out of the 1,715 had posterior frenulum, which required the special maneuver that consisted in both elevating and pushing the tongue back, simultaneously. Conclusion: the occurrence of posterior lingual frenulum was high and the special maneuver consisted in elevating and pushing the tongue back proved to be efficient to visualize the posterior lingual frenulum.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Joint hypermobility is a common, although largely ignored physical sign. Joint hypermobility is often asymptomatic but may be a feature of an underlying genetic disorder with systemic manifestations. The present article presents a comprehensive approach to considering joint hypermobility and clinically related issues in children and adults. RECENT FINDINGS Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is an umbrella term for various Mendelian connective tissue disorders sharing joint hypermobility, skin hyperextensibility, and tissue fragility. Hypermobile EDS is the default diagnosis in many individuals and still lacks of any confirmatory test. There is also a continuous spectrum of phenotypes between asymptomatic, nonsyndromic joint hypermobility, and hypermobile EDS. In 2017, a new international classification of EDSs, joint hypermobility, and related disorders was published. EDSs are now classified in 13 different variants because of mutations in 19 genes. The gap between joint hypermobility and hypermobile EDS is filled by the descriptive diagnosis of 'hypermobility spectrum disorders'. Alongside the new criteria recommendations for the assessment and management of selected issues related to joint hypermobility such as fatigue and physical therapy have also been published by expert panels. SUMMARY Asymptomatic, nonsyndromic joint hypermobility, hypermobility spectrum disorders and EDS (particularly, the hypermobile type) are the most common phenotypes in children and adults with joint hypermobility. Their prompt recognition is crucial to the appropriate application of evidence-based management and the reduction in burden of ill health.

Abstract
In the last decade, growing attention has been placed on joint hypermobility and related disorders. The new nosology for Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS), the best-known and probably the most common of the disorders featuring joint hypermobility, identifies more than 20 different types of EDS, and highlights the need for a single set of criteria to substitute the previous ones for the overlapping EDS hypermobility type and joint hypermobility syndrome. Joint hypermobility is a feature commonly encountered in many other disorders, both genetic and acquired, and this finding is attracting the attention of an increasing number of medical and non-medical disciplines. In this paper, the terminology of joint hypermobility and related disorders is summarized. Different types of joint hypermobility, its secondary musculoskeletal manifestations and a simplified categorization of genetic syndromes featuring joint hypermobility are presented. The concept of a spectrum of pathogenetically related manifestations of joint hypermobility intersecting the categories of pleiotropic syndromes with joint hypermobility is introduced. A group of hypermobility spectrum disorders is proposed as diagnostic labels for patients with symptomatic joint hypermobility but not corresponding to any other syndromes with joint hypermobility. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
