Abstract
A 3-amino-functionalized phosphabenzene (phosphinine) has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The pyramidalized nitrogen atom of the dimethylamino substituent indicates only a weak interaction between the lone pair of the nitrogen atom and the aromatic phosphorus heterocycle, resulting in somewhat basic character. It turned out that the amino group can indeed be protonated by HCl. In contrast to pyridines, however, the phosphabenzene-ammonium salt undergoes a selective ring contraction to form a hydroxylphospholene oxide in the presence of additional water. Based on deuterium labeling experiments and quantum chemical calculations, a rational mechanism for this hitherto unknown conversion is proposed.

Abstract
The germylene species (CH{(CMe)(2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 N)}2 )GePCO 1 is shown to react with the Lewis acids (E(C6 F5 )3 E=B, Al). Nonetheless, 1 participates in FLP chemistry with electron deficient alkynes or olefins, acting as an intramolecular FLP. In contrast, in the presence of B(C6 F5 )3 and an electron rich alkyne, 1 behaves as Ge-based nucleophile to effect intermolecular FLP addition to the alkyne. This reactivity demonstrates that the reaction pathway is controlled by the nature of the electrophile and nucleophile generated in solution, as revealed by extensive DFT calculations.

Abstract
Phosphaketenes are versatile reagents in organophosphorus chemistry. We herein report on the synthesis of novel bis-phosphaketenes, LM(PCO)2 (M=Ga 2 a, In 2 b; L=HC[C(Me)N(Ar)]2 ; Ar=2,6-i-Pr2 C6 H3 ) by salt metathesis reactions and their reactions with LGa to metallaphosphenes LGa(OCP)PML (M=Ga 3 a, In 3 b). 3 b represents the first compound with significant In-P π-bonding contribution as was confirmed by DFT calculations. Compounds 3 a and 3 b selectively activate the N-H and O-H bonds of aniline and phenol at the Ga-P bond and both reactions proceed with a rearrangement of the phosphaethynolate group from Ga-OCP to M-PCO bonding. Compounds 2-5 are fully characterized by heteronuclear (1 H, 13 C{1 H}, 31 P{1 H}) NMR and IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction (sc-XRD).

Abstract
A low-spin and mononuclear vanadium complex, (Me nacnac)V(CO)(η2 -P≡Ct Bu) (2) (Me nacnac- =[ArNC(CH3 )]2 CH, Ar=2,6-i Pr2 C6 H3 ), was prepared upon treatment of the vanadium neopentylidyne complex (Me nacnac)V≡Ct Bu(OTf) (1) with Na(OCP)(diox)2.5 (diox=1,4-dioxane), while the isoelectronic ate-complex [Na(15-crown-5)]{([ArNC(CH2 )]CH[C(CH3 )NAr])V(CO)(η2 -P≡Ct Bu)} (4), was obtained via the reaction of Na(OCP)(diox)2.5 and ([ArNC(CH2 )]CH[C(CH3 )NAr])V≡Ct Bu(OEt2 ) (3) in the presence of crown-ether. Computational studies suggest that the P-atom transfer proceeds by [2+2]-cycloaddition of the P≡C bond across the V≡Ct Bu moiety, followed by a reductive decarbonylation to form the V-C≡O linkage. The nature of the electronic ground state in diamagnetic complexes, 2 and 4, was further investigated both theoretically and experimentally, using a combination of density functional theory (DFT) calculations, UV/Vis and NMR spectroscopies, cyclic voltammetry, X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) measurements, and comparison of salient bond metrics derived from X-ray single-crystal structural characterization. In combination, these data are consistent with a low-valent vanadium ion in complexes 2 and 4. This study represents the first example of a metathesis reaction between the P-atom of [PCO]- and an alkylidyne ligand.

Abstract
The titled 2,1-benzazaphosphole (1) (i. e. ArP, where Ar=2-(DippN=CH)C6 H4 , Dipp=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 ) showed a spectacular reactivity behaving both as a reactive heterodiene in hetero-Diels-Alder (DA) reactions or as a hidden phosphinidene in the coordination toward selected transition metals (TMs). Thus, 1 reacts with electron-deficient alkynes RC≡CR (R=CO2 Me, C5 F4 N) giving 1-phospha-1,4-dihydro-iminonaphthalenes 2 and 3, that undergo hydrogen migration producing 1-phosphanaphthalenes 4 and 5. Compound 1 is also able to activate the C=C double bond in selected N-alkyl/aryl-maleimides RN(C(O)CH)2 (R=Me, tBu, Ph) resulting in the addition products 7-9 with bridged bicyclic [2.2.1] structures. The binding of the maleimides to 1 is semi-reversible upon heating. By contrast, when 1 was treated with selected TM complexes, it serves as a 4e donor bridging two TMs thus producing complexes [μ-ArP(AuCl)2 ] (10), [(μ-ArP)4 Ag4 ][X]4 (X=BF4 (11), OTf (12)) and [μ-ArP(Co2 (CO)6 )] (13). The structure and electron distribution of the starting material 1 as well as of other compounds were also studied from the theoretical point of view.

Abstract
Decarbonylation along with E atom transfer from Na(OCE) (E=P, As) to an isocyanide coordinated to the tetrahedral TiII complex [(TptBu,Me )TiCl], yielded the [(TptBu,Me )Ti(η3 -ECNAd)] species (Ad=1-adamantyl, TptBu,Me- =hydrotris(3-tert-butyl-5-methylpyrazol-1-yl)borate). In the case of E=P, the cyanophosphide ligand displays nucleophilic reactivity toward Al(CH3 )3 ; moreover, its bent geometry hints to a reduced Ad-NCP3- resonance contributor. The analogous and rarer mono-substituted cyanoarsenide ligand, Ad-NCAs3- , shows the same unprecedented coordination mode but with shortening of the N=C bond. As opposed to TiII , VII fails to promote P atom transfer to AdNC, yielding instead [(TptBu,Me )V(OCP)(CNAd)]. Theoretical studies revealed the rare ECNAd moieties to be stabilized by π-backbonding interactions with the former TiII ion, and their assembly to most likely involve a concerted E atom transfer between Ti-bound OCE- to AdNC ligands when studying the reaction coordinate for E=P.

Abstract
The yet unknown 2-amino-substituted λ3 ,σ2 -phosphinines are phosphorus-containing aniline derivatives. Calculations show that the strong interaction of the π-donating NR2 group with the aromatic system results in a high π-density at the phosphorus atom. We could now synthesize 2-N(CH3 )2 -functionalized phosphinines, starting from a 3-N(CH3 )2 -substituted 2-pyrone and (CH3 )3 Si-C≡P. Their reaction with CuBr⋅S(CH3 )2 affords CuI complexes with the first example of a neutral phosphinine acting as a rare bridging μ2 -P-4e donor-ligand between two CuI centers. Our experimental and theoretical investigations show that 2-aminophosphinines are missing links in the series of known 2-donor-functionalized phosphinines.

Abstract
In all likelihood the first synthesis of the phosphaethynolate anion, PCO- , was performed in 1894 when NaPH2 was reacted with CO in an attempt to make Na(CP) accompanied by elimination of water. This reaction was repeated 117 years later when it was discovered that Na(OCP) and H2 are the products of this remarkable transformation. Li(OCP) was synthesized and fully characterized in 1992 but this salt proved to be too unstable to allow for a detailed investigation of its chemistry. It was not until the heavier analogues of this lithium salt were isolated, Na(OCP) and K(OCP) (both of which are remarkably stable and can be even dissolved in water), that the chemistry of this new functional group could be explored. Here we review the chemistry of the 2-phosphaethynolate anion, a heavier phosphorus-containing analogue of the cyanate anion, and describe the wide breadth of chemical transformations for which it has been thus far employed. Its use as a ligand, in decarbonylative and deoxygenative processes, and as a building block for novel heterocycles is described. In the mere twenty-six years since Becker first reported the isolation of this remarkable anion, it has become a fascinating reagent for the synthesis of a vast library of, often unprecedented, molecules and compounds.

Abstract
A simple synthesis of sodium 2-phosphanaphthalene-3-olate (1) based on the extrusion of N2 from phthalazine using Na[OCP] is reported. This heterocycle can be readily functionalized at the negatively charged oxygen center using a variety of electrophilic substrates. The coordination chemistry of both 1 and its neutral derivatives was explored, revealing their facile use as P-donor ligands for late-transition-metal complexes.

Abstract
The reactions of the phosphaethynolate anion ([PCO]- ) with a range of boranes were explored. BPh3 and [PCO]- form a dimeric anion featuring P-B bonds and is prone to dissociation at room temperature. The more Lewis acidic borane B(C6 F5 )3 yields a less symmetric dimer of [PCO]- with P-B and P-O bonds. Less sterically demanding HB(C6 F5 )2 and H2 B(C6 F5 ) boranes form a third isomer with [PCO]- featuring both boranes bound to the same phosphorus atom. Despite the unexpected thermodynamic preference for P-coordination, computational data illustrate that electronic and steric features impact the binding modes of the resulting dianionic dimers.

Abstract
We report fundamental studies on the reactivity of the 2-arsaethynolate anion (AsCO- ), a species that has only recently become synthetically accessible. The reaction of AsCO- with the bulky stannylene Ter2 Sn (Ter=2,6-bis[2,4,6-trimethylphenyl]phenyl) is described, which leads to the unexpected formation of a [Ter3 Sn2 As2 ]- cluster compound. On the reaction pathway to this cluster, several intermediates were identified and characterized. After the initial association of AsCO- to Ter2 Sn, decarbonylation occurs to give an anion featuring monocoordinate arsenic, [Ter2 SnAs]- . Both species are not stable under ambient conditions, and [Ter2 SnAs]- rearranges to form [TerSnAsTer]- , an unprecedented anionic mixed Group 14/15 alkene analogue.

Abstract
The synthesis and isolation of the 2-arsaethynolate anion, AsCO(-) , and its subsequent reactivity towards heteroallenes is reported. Reactions with ketenes and carbodiimides afford four-membered anionic heterocycles in formal [2+2] cycloaddition reactions. By contrast, reaction with an isocyanate yielded a 1,4,2-diazaarsolidine-3,5-dionide anion and the unprecedented cluster anions As10 (2-) and As12 (4-) . These preliminary reactivity studies hint at the enormous potential synthetic utility of this novel anion, which may be employed as an arsenide (As(-) ) source.

Abstract
We report that the 2-phosphaethynolate anion (PCO(-)) reacts with propargylamines in the presence of a proton source to afford novel N-derivatized phosphinecarboxamides bearing alkyne functionalities. Deprotonation of these species gives rise to novel five- and six-membered anionic heterocycles resulting from intramolecular nucleophilic attack of the resulting phosphide at the alkyne functionality (via 5-exo-dig or 6-endo-dig cyclizations, respectively). The nature of the substituents on the phosphinecarboxamide can be used to influence the outcome of these reactions. This strategy represents a unique approach to phosphorus-containing heterocylic systems that are closely related to known organic molecules with interesting bio-active properties.

Abstract
The reactivity of the 2-phosphaethynolate anion (PCO−) towards a cyclic trisilene (cSi3(Tip)4) is reported. The result is the net activation of the P=C and Si=Si multiple bonds of the precursors affording a heteroatomic bicyclo[1.1.1]pentan-2-one analogue ([P(CO)Si3(Tip)4]−; 1). This reaction can be interpreted as the formal addition of a phosphide and a carbonyl across the Si=Si double bond. Photolytic decarbonylation of 1 results in the incorporation of the phosphide vertex into the cyclotrisilene scaffold, yielding a congener of the cyclobutene anion with considerable allylic character.
