Abstract
Research on metal-metal bonds involving f-block actinides, such as thorium, lags far behind the well-studied metal-metal bonds of d-block transition metals. The complexes with Th-TM bonds are extremely rare; all previously identified examples have only a single Th-TM bond with the Th center at an invariably +IV oxidation state. Herein, we report a series of Th2Pdn (n = 2, 3, and 6) clusters (complexes 3, 4, and 7) with multiple Th(III)-Pd bonds. Theoretical studies reveal that the Th2Pdn unit allows electronic delocalization and σ aromaticity, leading to unexpected closed-shell singlet structures for these Th(III) species. This electronic delocalization is evident in the highest occupied molecular orbital of Th(III) complexes and facilitates a 2e reduction of alkyne by complex 7, resulting in the formation of 8. Complexes 7 and 8 are distinctive in featuring a Th2Pd6 core with six and eight Th-Pd bonds, respectively, making them the largest known d-f heterometallic clusters exhibiting metal-metal bonding.

Abstract
Heterometallic extended metal atom chains (EMACs) aligned with three types of metal were rationally synthesized by forming unbridged metal-metal bonds based on the interactions between highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals at the d z 2 ${{_{{\rm z}{^{2}}}}}$ orbital. These chains form pentanuclear structures aligned as Rh-Pt-M-Pt-Rh with relatively large formation constants of 5.0×1013 M-2 for M=Pt and 6.3×1011 M-2 for M=Pd, while retaining their backbones in solution. In the case of M=Cu, the original Cu(+2) atoms were reduced to Cu(+1) during the synthetic process. Cu(+1) has an unprecedented trigonal bipyramidal coordination geometry. The reported synthesis based on asymmetrical dinuclear complexes provides a guideline for the synthesis of hetero-EMACs to allow several analogs through judicious combinations realized by tuning the number of metal nuclei and metal species.

Abstract
Magnesium cobaltates (Arnacnac)MgCo(COD)2 (1-3) were synthesised by reacting (Arnacnac)MgI(OEt2) with K[Co(η4-COD)2] (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) [Arnacnac = CH(ArNCMe)2; Ar = 2,4,6-Me3-C6H2 (Mes), 2,6-Et2-C6H3 (Dep), 2,6-iPr2-C6H3Mes (Dipp)]. Compounds 1-3 form contact ion-pairs in toluene, while solvent separated ion-pairs are formed in THF. The effect of ion-pairing on the reactivity is illustrated by reaction of 2 with tert-butylphosphaalkyne, which affords distinct 1,3-diphosphacyclobutadiene complexes. The heteroleptic sandwich complex [(Depnacnac)MgCo(P2C2tBu2)]2 (4) is selectively formed in toluene, while the homoleptic bis(1,3-diphosphacyclobutadiene) complex [(Depnacnac)Mg(THF)3][Co(P2C2tBu2)2] (5) is obtained in THF. Complex 4 is a precursor to further unusual phosphaorganometallic compounds. Substitution of the labile COD ligand in 4 by white phosphorus (P4) enabled the synthesis of the phosphorus-rich sandwich compound [(Depnacnac)MgCoP4(P2C2tBu2)]2 (6). The heterobimetallic complex (Cp*NiP2C2tBu2)Co(COD) (7) was isolated after treatment of 4 with Cp*Ni(acac) (Cp* = C5Me5, acac = acetylacetonate).

Abstract
Metal-only Lewis pairs (MOLPs) based on zinc electrophiles are particularly interesting due to their relevance to Negishi cross-coupling reactions. Zinc-based ligands in bimetallic complexes also render unique reactivity to the transition metals at which they are bound. Here we explore the use of sterically hindered [Pt(P t Bu3)2] (1) to access Pt/Zn bimetallic complexes. Compounds [(P t Bu3)2Pt → Zn(C6F5)2] (2) and [Pt(ZnCp*)6] (3) (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) were isolated by reactions with Zn(C6F5)2 and [Zn2Cp*2], respectively. We also disclose the cooperative reactivity of 1/ZnX2 pairs (X = Cl, Br, I, and OTf) toward water and dihydrogen, which can be understood in terms of bimetallic frustration.

Abstract
The PPh3 ligands in the heterodinuclear AuPt complex [(Ph3P)AuPt(PPh3)3][BAr4F] (BAr4F = tetrakis[3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]borate) exhibit a high fluxionality on the AuPt core. Fast intramolecular and slow intermolecular processes for the reversible exchange of the PPh3 ligands have been identified. When [(Ph3P)AuPt(PPh3)3][BAr4F] is heated in solution, the formation of benzene is observed, and a trinuclear, cationic AuPt2 complex is generated. This process is preceded by reversible phenyl-group exchange between the PPh3 ligands present in the reaction mixture as elucidated by deuterium-labeling studies. Both the elimination of benzene and the preceding reversible phenyl-group exchange have originally been observed in mass-spectrometry-based CID experiments (CID = Collision-Induced Dissociation). While CID of mass-selected [Au,Pt,(PPh3)4]+ results exclusively in the loss of PPh3, the resulting cation [Au,Pt,(PPh3)3]+ selectively eliminates C6H6. Thus, the dissociation of a PPh3 ligand from [Au,Pt,(PPh3)3]+ is energetically not able to compete with processes which result in C-H- and C-P-bond cleavage. In both media, the heterobimetallic nature of the employed complexes is the key for the observed reactivity. Only the intimate interplay of the gas-phase investigations, studies in solution, and thorough DFT computations allowed for the elucidation of the mechanistic details of the reactivity of [(Ph3P)AuPt(PPh3)3][BAr4F].

Abstract
[(Ph3P)AuPt(nbe)3][BAr4F] (nbe = norbornene) constitutes the first olefin-containing, formal Au+IPt0 complex. The unusual coordination mode and the electronic properties have been analyzed spectroscopically and by calculations. The low binding energy of the nbe ligands make this complex a valuable precursor for formal Au+IPt0 complexes and a candidate for heterobimetallic catalysis.

Abstract
A joint experimental/computational effort to elucidate the mechanism of dihydrogen activation by a gold(I)/platinum(0) metal-only frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) is described herein. The drastic effects on H2 activation derived from subtle ligand modifications have also been investigated. The importance of the balance between bimetallic adduct formation and complete frustration has been interrogated, providing for the first time evidence for genuine metal-only FLP reactivity in solution. The origin of a strong inverse kinetic isotopic effect has also been clarified, offering further support for the proposed bimetallic FLP-type cleavage of dihydrogen.

Abstract
The combination of Pt0 complexes and indium trihalides leads to compounds that form equilibria in solution between their In-X oxidative addition (OA) products (PtII indyl complexes) and their metal-only Lewis pair (MOLP) isomers (LnPt→InX3). The position of the equilibria can be altered reversibly by changing the solvent, while the equilibria can be reversibly and irreversibly driven toward the MOLP products by addition of further donor ligands. The results mark the first observation of an equilibrium between MOLP and OA isomers, as well as the most polar bond ever observed to undergo reversible oxidative addition to a metal complex. In addition, we present the first structural characterization of MOLP and oxidative addition isomers of the same compound. The relative energies of the MOLP and OA isomers were calculated by DFT methods, and the possibility of solvent-mediated isomerization is discussed.

Abstract
The dinuclear Pt-Au complex [(CNC)(PPh3 )Pt Au(PPh3 )](ClO4 ) (2) (CNC=2,6-diphenylpyridinate) was prepared. Its crystal structure shows a rare metal-metal bonding situation, with very short Pt-Au and Au-Cipso (CNC) distances and dissimilar Pt-Cipso (CNC) bonds. Multinuclear NMR spectra of 2 show the persistence of the Pt-Au bond in solution and the occurrence of unusual fluxional behavior involving the [Pt(II) ] and [Au(I) ] metal fragments. The [Pt(II) ]⋅⋅⋅ [Au(I) ] interaction has been thoroughly studied by means of DFT calculations. The observed bonding situation in 2 can be regarded as a model for an intermediate in a transmetalation process.

Abstract
In this contribution, we report the reactivity of polar, unsupported Cu-Fe bonds toward small-molecule heteroallenes. Insertion of CS2 into the polar Cu-Fe bond of (IMes)Cu-FeCp(CO)2 proceeds at mild conditions and results in the simultaneous presence of two unprecedented CS2 binding modes (μ3:η(4) and μ3:η(3)) in the same product. Reactivity between N2O and (NHC)Cu-FeCp(CO)2 complexes also is observed at mild conditions, resulting in migration of the cyclopentadienyl groups from Fe to Cu. Similar reactivity is observed for new (NHC)Cu-FeCp*(CO)2 analogues, whose structural characterization is reported here and reveals two semibridging Cu···CO interactions per molecule. Stoichiometric oxygen atom transfer from N2O to PPh3 was mediated by (IMes)Cu-FeCp(CO)2, indicating the presence of an N2O-activated intermediate that can be intercepted by exogenous reagents.

Abstract
Addition of H2 to [Rh((i)Bu2PCH2CH2P(i)Bu2)(NBD)][BAr(Cl)4] (NBD = norbornadiene, Ar(Cl) = 3,5-Cl2C6H3) in the solid-state results in the rapid formation of zwitterionic [Rh((i)Bu2PCH2CH2P(i)Bu2){(η(6)-C6H3Cl2)BAr(Cl)3}] by a gas/solid reaction. This undergoes slow C-Cl bond cleavage in the solid-state to ultimately afford the dimeric Rh(III) complex [RhCl((i)Bu2PCH2CH2P(i)Bu2){C6H3Cl(BAr(Cl)3)}]2. This reactivity is mirrored in solution (CH2Cl2). Kinetic data for the C-Cl activation in both the solid-state and solution are reported.
