Abstract
A mild and regiodivergent aminoalkylation of unactivated alkyl halides is disclosed via a dual photoredox/nickel catalysis. Bipyridyl-type ligands without an ortho-substituent control the site-selective coupling at the original position, while ortho-disubstituted ligands tune the site-selectivity at a remote, unprefunctionalized position. Mechanistic studies combined with DFT calculations give insight into the mechanism and the origins of the ligand-controlled regioselectivity. Notably, this redox-neutral, regiodivergent alkyl-alkyl coupling features mild conditions, broad substrate scope for both alkyl coupling partners, and excellent site-selectivity and offers a straightforward way for α-alkylation of tertiary amines to synthesize structurally diverse alkylamines and value-added amino acid derivatives.

Abstract
Direct and selective functionalization of hydrocarbon chains is a fundamental problem in synthetic chemistry. Conventional functionalization of C=C double bonds and C(sp3)-H bonds provides some solutions, but site diversity remains an issue. The merging of alkene isomerization with (oxidative) functionalization provides an ideal method for remote functionalization, which would provide more opportunities for site diversity. However, the reported functionalized sites are still limited and focus on a specific terminal position and internal site; new site-selective functionalization, including multi-functionalization, remains a largely unmet challenge. Here we describe a palladium-catalysed aerobic oxidative method for the multi-site programmable functionalization, involving the C=C double bond and multiple C(sp3)-H bonds, of terminal olefins via a strategy that controls the reaction sequence between alkene isomerization and oxidative functionalization. Specifically, 1-acetoxylation (anti-Markovnikov), 2-acetoxylation, 1,2-diacetoxylation and 1,2,3-triacetoxylation have been realized, accompanied by controllable remote alkenylation. This method enables available terminal olefins from petrochemical feedstocks to be readily converted into unsaturated alcohols and polyalcohols and particularly into different monosaccharides and C-glycosides.

Abstract
Functionalizing specific positions on a saturated alkyl molecule is a key challenge in synthetic chemistry. Herein, a ligand-controlled regiodivergent alkylations of alkyl bromides at different positions by Ni-catalyzed alkyl-alkyl cross-electrophile coupling with the second alkyl bromides has been developed. The reaction undergoes site-selective isomerization on one alkyl bromides in a controlled manner, providing switchable access to diverse alkylated structures at different sites of alkyl bromides. The reaction occurs at three similar positions with excellent chemo- and regioselectivity, representing a remarkable ligand tuned reactivity between alkyl-alkyl cross-coupling and nickel migration along the hydrocarbon side chain. This reaction offers a catalytic platform to diverse saturated architectures by alkyl-alkyl bond-formation from identical starting materials.

Abstract
Despite their potential for several transition-metal-catalyzed reactions, arsenic ligands are poorly diversified. In this work, we developed an efficient synthetic methodology for AB2-type ligands, which is a typical motif in phosphorus systems, for example, in Buchwald ligands. The introduction of 1,2-benzenedithiol to tribromoarsine reduces the reactivity of two of the three reaction sites. After the substitution reaction with the first nucleophile involving the elimination of bromide, the substitution reaction with the second nucleophile produced AB2-type arsines through the elimination of the dithiolate anion. Among the various types of obtained AB2-type arsines, the arsa-Buchwald ligands, which are arsenic analogues of Buchwald ligands, were applied to the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction. Some of the arsa-Buchwald ligands showed activity comparable to that of the well-known Buchwald ligand, SPhos. Furthermore, the arsenic analogue of SPhos showed higher activity and stability than SPhos under open-air conditions.

Abstract
A NiH-catalyzed migratory hydroalkylation of alkenyl amines with predictable and switchable regioselectivity is reported. By utilizing a ligand-controlled, directing group-assisted strategy, various alkyl units are site-selectively installed at inert sp3 C-H sites far away from the original C=C bonds. A range of structurally diverse α- and β-branched protected amines are conveniently synthesized via stabilization of 5- and 6-membered nickelacycles respectively. This method exhibits broad scope and high functional group tolerance, and can be applied to late-stage modification of medicinally relevant molecules.

Abstract
The diastereoselective double carbometalation reaction of cyclopropenes provides, in a single‐pot operation, two ω‐ene‐[1,1]‐bicyclopropyl ester derivatives. One regioisomer then undergoes a Pd‐catalyzed addition of aryl iodide to provide skipped dienes possessing several distant stereocenters including two congested quaternary carbon centers with excellent diastereoselectivity.

Abstract
A remote C(sp3 )-H bond asymmetric borylation of unactivated alkenes was achieved by bimetallic relay catalysis. The reaction proceeded through reversible and consecutive β-H elimination/olefin insertion promoted by CoH species generated in situ, followed by copper-catalyzed asymmetric protoboration. The use of this synergistic Co/Cu catalysis protocol allowed the enantioselective protoboration of various unactivated terminal alkenes and internal alkenes, as well as an unrefined mixture of olefin isomers, at the distal less-reactive β-position to a functional group, leading to chiral organoboronates.

Abstract
While remote functionalization via chain walking has the potential to enable access to molecules via novel disconnections, such processes require relatively long reaction times and can be in need of elevated temperatures. This work features a remote arylation in less than 10 min reaction time at room temperature over a distance of up to 11 carbons. The unprecedented speed is enabled by the air‐stable PdI dimer [Pd(μ‐I)(PCy2tBu)]2, which in contrast to its PtBu3 counterpart does not trigger direct coupling at the initiation site, but regioconvergent and chemoselective remote functionalization to yield valuable fluorinated 1,1‐diaryl alkanes. Our combined experimental and computational studies rationalize the origins of switchability, which are primarily due to differences in dispersion interactions.

Abstract
A novel method for catalytic remote bismetalation of alkene substrates by the addition of dimetal reagents is accomplished by using chain walking. In the presence of a palladium catalyst, the reaction of various 1,n-dienes and diborons were converted into cyclopentane derivatives with two boryl groups at remote positions via facile regioselective transformation of an unactivated sp3 C-H bond to a C-B bond. Sequential construction of three distant bonds, which is difficult to achieve by any method, was accomplished for the reactions of 1,n-dienes (n ≥ 7).

Abstract
Remote functionalization of alkenes via chain walking has generally been limited to C(sp3)-H bonds α and β to polar-functional units, while γ-C(sp3)-H functionalization through controlled alkene transposition is a longstanding challenge. Herein, we describe NiH-catalyzed migratory formal hydroamination of alkenyl amides achieved via chelation-assisted control, whereby various amino groups are installed at the γ-position of aliphatic chains. By tuning olefin isomerization and migratory hydroamination through ligand and directing group optimization, γ-selective amination can be achieved via stabilization of a 6-membered nickellacycle by an 8-aminoquinoline directing group and subsequent interception by an aminating reagent. A range of amines can be installed at the γ-C(sp3)-H bond of unactivated alkenes with varying alkyl chain lengths, enabling late-stage access to value-added γ-aminated products. Moreover, by employing picolinamide-coupled alkene substrates, this approach is further extended to δ-selective amination. The chain-walking mechanism and pathway selectivity are investigated by experimental and computational methods.

Abstract
A regiodivergent nickel-catalyzed hydrocyanation of a broad range of internal alkenes involving a chain-walking process is reported. When appropriate diastereomeric biaryl diphosphite ligands are applied, the same starting materials can be converted to either linear or branched nitriles with good yields and high regioselectivities. DFT calculations suggested that the catalyst architecture determines the regioselectivity by modulating electronic and steric interactions. In addition, moderate enantioselectivities were observed when branched nitriles were produced.

Abstract
A NiH-catalyzed migratory hydroalkenylation reaction of olefins with alkenyl bromides has been developed, affording benzylic alkenylation products with high yields and excellent chemoselectivity. The mild conditions of the reaction preclude olefinic products from undergoing further isomerization or subsequent alkenylation. Catalytic enantioselective hydroalkenylation of styrenes was achieved by using a chiral bisoxazoline ligand.

Abstract
Despite remarkable recent advances in transition-metal-catalyzed C(sp3)−C cross-coupling reactions, there remain challenging bond formations. One class of such reactions include the formation of tertiary-C(sp3)−C bonds, presumably due to unfavorable steric interactions and competing isomerizations of tertiary alkyl metal intermediates. Reported herein is a Ni-catalyzed migratory 3,3-difluoroallylation of unactivated alkyl bromides at remote tertiary centers. This approach enables the facile construction of otherwise difficult to prepare all-carbon quaternary centers. Key to the success of this transformation is an unusual remote functionalization via chain walking to the most sterically hindered tertiary C(sp3) center of the substrate. Preliminary mechanistic and radical trapping studies with primary alkyl bromides suggest a unique mode of tertiary C-radical generation through chain-walking followed by Ni–C bond homolysis. This strategy is complementary to the existing coupling protocols with tert-alkyl organometallic or -alkyl halide reagents, and it enables the expedient formation of quaternary centers from easily available starting materials. Formation of tertiary C(sp3)-C bonds is a formidable challenge due to steric interactions and low barriers for isomerization of intermediates. Here, the authors show a Ni-catalyzed migratory 3,3-difluoroallylation of unactivated alkyl bromides at remote tertiary carbon centers.

Abstract
Metal-catalyzed chain-walking reactions have recently emerged as a powerful strategy to functionalize remote positions in organic molecules. However, a chain-walking protocol for nonconjugated dienes remains scarcely reported, and developments are currently ongoing. In this Communication, a nickel-catalyzed asymmetric hydrocyanation of nonconjugated dienes involving a chain-walking process is demonstrated. The reaction exhibits excellent regio- and chemoselectivity, and a wide range of substrates were tolerated, delivering the products in high yields and enantioselectivities. Deuterium-labeling experiments support the chain-walking process, which involves an iterative β-H elimination and reinsertion processes. Gram-scale synthesis, regioconvergent experiments, and downstream transformations gave further insights into the high potential of this transformation.

Abstract
Hydrocarbon stress (HS) has been causing decreased plant growth and productivity. Putrescine (Put) and growth promoting microbes are vital for plant growth and development under hydrocarbon stress. Current research work was carried out to evaluate the potential of Bacillus megaterium OSR-3 alone and in combination with Put to alleviate HS in Nicotiana tabacum (L.). The crude petroleum contaminated soil significantly reduced growth attributes of N. tabacum. B. megaterium OSR-3 inoculated plants subjected to HS exhibited improved photosynthetic rate, gas exchange characteristics, poline contents and protein level. Furthermore, bacterial inoculation enhanced the antioxidative activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) in tobacco plants subjected to HS. The HS alleviation in B. megaterium OSR-3 inoculated N. tabacum can be credited to the heightened activity of antioxidative enzymes, reduction in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and abridged synthesis of malondialdehyde (MDA). The increased synthesis of indole acetic acid (IAA) in HS stressed N. tabacum plants treated with co-application of B. megaterium OSR-3 and Put attenuated toxicity and amplified growth of plants. Additionally, the co-application of B. megaterium OSR-3 and Put also upregulated the activity of antioxidative enzymes and induced augmented level of proline and IAA in plants under HS regimes. Current research provides novel insight into the potential and mechanism of B. megaterium OSR-3 and Put in mitigation of HS in N. tabacum plants.

Abstract
The formation of alkyl-palladium complexes via the nucleopalladation of alkenes is the entry point for a wide range of diverse reactions. One possibility is that the intermediate alkyl-Pd complexes can undergo a "chain-walking" event, to allow for remote functionalization through various termination processes. However, there are few methods to selectively interrupt the chain-walking process at a prescribed location. Herein, we demonstrate that a variety of homoallylic protected amines undergo an interrupted enantioselective relay Heck reaction to give enantioenriched allylic amine products. The selectivity of this process can be diverted to exclusively yield the ene-amide products by virtue of changing the nature of the amine protecting group. To rationalize this observation, we combine experiment and computation to investigate the mechanism of the chain-walking process and termination events. Isotopic labeling experiments and the computed reaction pathways suggest that the system is likely under thermodynamic control, with the selectivity being driven by the relative stability of intermediates encountered during chain-walking. These results illustrate that the chain-walking of alkyl-palladium complexes can be controlled through the alteration of thermodynamic processes and provides a roadmap for exploiting these processes in future reaction development.

Abstract
The stereoselective preparation of synthetically versatile vinylboronates from ω-alkenylboronates is achieved through a ruthenium-catalyzed isomerization reaction. A variety of di- and trisubstituted vinylboronates were conveniently produced and could be used as a new starting point for subsequent in situ remote functionalization through either a sequential Ru/Pd or Ru/Cu double catalytic system. A regio- and stereoselective ruthenium-catalyzed isomerization of ω-alkenyl boronates into stereodefined di- and trisubstituted alkenylboronate derivatives is reported.![]()

Abstract
A redox-relay migratory hydroarylation of isomeric mixtures of olefins with arylboronic acids catalyzed by nickel complexes bearing diamine ligands is described. A range of structurally diverse 1,1-diarylalkanes, including those containing a 1,1-diarylated quaternary carbon, were obtained in excellent yields and with high regioselectivity. Preliminary experimental evidence supports the proposed non-dissociated chainwalking of aryl-nickel(II)-hydride species along the alkyl chain of alkenes before selective reductive elimination at a benzylic position. A catalyst loading as low as 0.5 mol % proved to be sufficient in large-scale synthesis while retaining high reactivity, highlighting the practical value of this transformation.

Abstract
Double hydroboration of dienes is the addition of a hydrogen and a boryl group to the two double bonds of a diene molecule and represents a straightforward and effective protocol to prepare synthetically versatile bis(boryl)alkanes, provided that this reaction occurs selectively. However, this reaction can potentially yield several isomeric organoboron products, and it still remains a challenge to control the regioselectivity of this reaction, which allows the selective production of a single organoboron product, in particular, for a broad scope of dienes. By employing a readily available cobalt catalyst, here we show that this double hydroboration yields synthetically useful gem-bis(boryl)alkanes with excellent regioselectivity. In addition, the scope of dienes for this reaction is broad and encompasses a wide range of conjugated and non-conjugated dienes. Furthermore, mechanistic studies indicate that this cobalt-catalyzed double hydroboration occurs through boryl-directed chain-walking hydroboration of alkenylboronates generated from anti-Markovnikov 1,2-hydroboration of 1,n-diene. Control of regioselectivity in the double hydroboration of dienes to obtain a single organoboron compound is a considerable synthetic challenge. Here, the authors show a cobalt-catalyzed chain-walking double hydroboration of 1,n-dienes to access gem-bis(boryl)alkanes with regioselective control.

Abstract
Since 2014, the interest in aryl fluorosulfates (ArOSO2 F) as well as their implementation in powerful applications has continuously grown. In this context, the enabling capability of ArOSO2 F will strongly depend on the substitution pattern of the arene, which ultimately dictates its overall function as drug candidate, material, or bio-linker. This report showcases the modular, substrate-independent, and fully predictable, selective functionalization of polysubstituted arenes bearing C-OSO2 F, C-Br, and C-Cl sites, which makes it possible to diversify the arene in the presence of OSO2 F or utilize OSO2 F as a triflate surrogate. Sequential and triply selective arylations and alkylations were realized within minutes at room temperature, using a single and air-stable PdI dimer.

Reaction scope and mechanistic insights of nickel-catalyzed migratory Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling. Nat Commun 2020; 11:417. Abstract
Cross-coupling reactions have developed into powerful approaches for carbon–carbon bond formation. In this work, a Ni-catalyzed migratory Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling featuring high benzylic or allylic selectivity has been developed. With this method, unactivated alkyl electrophiles and aryl or vinyl boronic acids can be efficiently transferred to diarylalkane or allylbenzene derivatives under mild conditions. Importantly, unactivated alkyl chlorides can also be successfully used as the coupling partners. To demonstrate the applicability of this method, we showcase that this strategy can serve as a platform for the synthesis of terminal, partially deuterium-labeled molecules from readily accessible starting materials. Experimental studies suggest that migratory cross-coupling products are generated from Ni(0/II) catalytic cycle. Theoretical calculations indicate that the chain-walking occurs at a neutral nickel complex rather than a cationic one. In addition, the original-site cross-coupling products can be obtained by alternating the ligand, wherein the formation of the products has been rationalized by a radical chain process. Migratory cross-coupling reactions are powerful tools to form bonds at predictable positions. Here the authors report a nickel-catalyzed migratory Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling of unactivated alkyl electrophiles with aryl and vinyl boron reagents and provide experimental and computational mechanistic evidence.

Abstract
Highly efficient alkylation of β-chloro ketones and their derivatives was achieved by means of domino dehydrochlorination/Mn-enabled radical-based alkyl-alkyl cross-coupling reaction. In situ-generated α,β-unsaturated ketones and their analogues were identified as the reaction intermediates. Known bioactive compounds, such as melperone and azaperone, could be easily prepared from β-chloropropiophenone in two steps.

Abstract
We report here the coupling reactions between vinyl/aryl and alkyl C-O electrophiles that can be derived from chemical feedstocks and naturally occurring functional groups. This method provides an efficient approach to the synthesis of a wide range of functionalized, and/or secondary alkyl substituted cycloalkenes. These compounds are difficult to produce by conventional methods. The reaction proceeds with broad substrate scope, and tolerates various functional groups such as alcohol, aldehyde, ketone, ester, amide, alkene, alkyne, heterocycles, organotin and organosilicon compounds. The synthetic utility of this method has been demonstrated by providing facile access to important building blocks. We also demonstrated the possibility to apply this method for late-stage modification of peptides. A broad range of functionalized alkyl groups could be selectively introduced into tyrosine in peptides via C-C bond formation, which has been a challenge to the existing procedures.

Abstract
β2- and β3-Amino acids are important
chiral building blocks for the design of new pharmaceuticals and
peptidomimetics. Here we report a straightforward regio- and enantiodivergent
access to these compounds using a one-pot reaction composed of
sparteine-mediated enantioselective lithiation of a Boc-1,3-oxazinane,
transmetallation to zinc and direct or migratory Negishi coupling with an
organic electrophile. The regioselectivity of the Negishi coupling was highly
ligand-controlled and switchable to obtain the C4- or the C5-functionalized
product exclusively. High enantioselectivities were achieved on a broad range of
examples, and a catalytic version in chiral diamine was developed using the
(+)-sparteine surrogate. Selected C4- and C5-functionalized Boc-1,3-oxazinanes
were subsequently converted to highly enantio-enriched β2- and
β3-amino acids with the (R) or
(S) configuration, depending on the sparteine enantiomer
employed in the lithiation step.

Abstract
The direct and selective functionalization of relatively simple and readily accessible precursors to produce highly functionalized alkyl boronates is a synthetically useful process. Herein we report a NiH-catalyzed remote hydroarylation process that can, through a synergistic combination of chain walking and subsequent cross-coupling, introduce an aryl group at the adjacent carbon atom of alkyl boronates under mild conditions. By means of a preliminary experiment with moderate enantioselectivity, it was shown that an asymmetric version could also be realized.
